- 0:00Welcome to the "Hoover Daily Report." Ideas Advancing Freedom.
- 0:03It's Friday, March 6th, Twenty twenty-six.
- 0:05This Friday, Condoleeza Rice lauds the objectives of the American and Israeli
- 0:10campaign to degrade the Iranian regime’s military capabilities; Šumit Ganguly
- 0:14speaks with Bill Whalen about US-India relations and India’s prospects for
- 0:18continued development; and Russ Roberts explains why the Chabad religious sect
- 0:23has nothing to do with the war against the Iranian regime.
- 0:26Condoleeza Rice on the War in Iran.
- 0:28Hoover Institution Director Condoleeza Rice’s recent conversation with Brett
- 0:33Baier of Fox News, featured in yesterday’s Hoover Daily Report, is now
- 0:36available as an audio podcast. Rice emphasizes that Iran’s current regime has
- 0:41been at war with the United States since its inception in 1979 and has committed
- 0:45repeated acts of extreme violence against US troops, diplomatic personnel, and
- 0:49civilians, as well as American allies. Rice argues Iran made a “strategic
- 0:53blunder” in attacking with indiscriminate missile and drone fire neighboring Gulf
- 0:58States that were not involved in American and Israeli strikes. Acknowledging “the
- 1:02uncertainties of warfare” and the validity of concerns about plans for the
- 1:06day after in Iran following this war, Rice maintains that rendering the regime
- 1:11incapable of using its military power is a “worthy goal” for US and allied foreign
- 1:15policy.
- 1:16India: Brain Gains and Growing Pains with Šumit Ganguly.
- 1:19Two decades shy of its 100th anniversary of statehood, how is India progressing in
- 1:25its goal of becoming an innovative, prosperous, environmentally friendly, and
- 1:29developed nation? Senior Fellow Šumit Ganguly, director of Hoover’s Huntington
- 1:34Program on Strengthening US-India Relations, joins Matters of Policy &
- 1:39Politics to discuss Hoover’s newly released Annual Survey of India 2026.
- 1:44Among the survey topics explored: an assessment of India’s economy; the
- 1:48nation’s uncertain foreign policy; Indian education at a “crossroads”; and the
- 1:53nation’s contemporary challenges regarding science, technology, and
- 1:57innovation policy. The conversation also considers how India’s “strategic
- 2:02autonomy” and oil needs are affected by the war in the Middle East; India’s
- 2:07economic competition with neighboring China; and Prime Minister Modi’s
- 2:11complicated relationship with the American president and US tariff policy.
- 2:16Chabad and the War with Iran?
- 2:18At his Substack, Visiting Fellow Russ Roberts explains the origins of the
- 2:22Jewish religious sect Chabad. “Today it is just a particular flavor of orthodox
- 2:26Judaism,” Roberts writes, noting that the movement centers around locally run
- 2:30institutions “called Chabad Houses all over America and all over the world.”
- 2:35Roberts further notes that “Chabad is apolitical,” which brings him to the
- 2:39claim currently circulating in American populist and far-right circles that
- 2:43Chabad is somehow the driving force behind the current US-Israeli war against
- 2:47the Iranian regime. “Chabad has absolutely nothing to do with this war
- 2:51and I would normally not spend a single minute discussing these claims,” Roberts
- 2:55says.
- 2:55Except that the claim that Jews want to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and rebuild
- 3:00the Temple in Jerusalem is the pretext used by Hamas on October 7th which they
- 3:05and their supporters around the world called the Al-Aqsa Flood resulting in the
- 3:10death of 1200 Israelis and the torment of the 250 people who were kidnapped.
- 3:15Roberts situates the current claims about Chabad in the broader history of
- 3:20anti-Semitic ideology and violence over time.
- 3:22Is Miami Becoming Wall Street South?
- 3:25On the latest episode of Capitalism and Freedom in the Twenty-First Century,
- 3:29Policy Fellow Jon Hartley speaks with President of Citadel Securities Jim
- 3:34Esposito. Esposito reflects on the early stages of his career, his tenure in
- 3:39senior roles at Goldman Sachs in New York and London, and moving to Miami to run
- 3:44one of the world’s largest broker-dealers and market makers, Citadel Securities.
- 3:49They also discuss the rising role Miami is playing in global capital
- 3:53markets—becoming what many have termed “Wall Street South”—and the impact that
- 3:58Citadel’s moving its headquarters there played in this development. Hartley and
- 4:03Esposito also discuss ongoing trends in the economy, as well as the rising role
- 4:08of AI in finance and business.
- 4:10How Can Universities Strengthen Civic Education in K–12 Schools?
- 4:14On March 4, the Hoover Institution’s Alliance for Civics in the Academy hosted
- 4:18"How Can Universities Strengthen Civic Education in K–12 Schools?" with civics
- 4:23scholars Jennifer McNabb, Joshua Dunn, and Jenna Storey. Universities are
- 4:27increasingly reexamining their role as incubators of effective citizenship. An
- 4:31essential yet often overlooked part of this work is strengthening K–12 civic
- 4:36education. This webinar explores how efforts within higher education can
- 4:40support civic learning in K–12 schools, with particular emphasis on the academy’s
- 4:44role in training the next generation of educators. The panelists brought to this
- 4:49conversation many years of combined study and experience in analysis of the
- 4:53pedagogical methods and philosophical frameworks used to teach civics in the
- 4:58United States at all levels.
- 4:59Featured Research Initiative.

- 5:03The Hoover Project on Renewing Indigenous Economies is dedicated to understanding
- 5:07how the rich history of governance, entrepreneurship, and trade allowed

- 5:15traditions can help rebuild Indigenous economies, cultures, and communities from
- 5:19the ground up.
