- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: one of the things that excites me the most about what we do at a week community is to give back freedom to someone that may have lost their freedom due to weight.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: We want to be able to provide that to people.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome everybody.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm again your host Izzy right here on the built in Buffalo YouTube channel Facebook X and YouTube obviously if you're on YouTube Thank you for being here with me today.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: We are discussing this new defense because a lot of fans And myself have been confused as to what's going on with the Buffalo Bill's defense
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: The draft was mostly defense again, our first two picks were defense, then we drafted two guys on offense and then we went back to the defensive side and we took almost exclusively defense in his draft, we drafted a punner, we drafted a wide receiver, we drafted a tackle, and we drafted a guard.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Again, this year we drafted two corners, just like last year we drafted Harrison, and we drafted during a strong who, you know, God bless him.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully his recovery goes well and he can play again.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: But if not God bless him and hopefully the man can recover and have a normal life and use his degree that he could achieve from the University of Virginia Tech.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: But the bills reloaded a cupboard at corner.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: They went and they got another edge russia.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: And they went and got a linebacker.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: And they got a steal of a safety in the fifth round.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to talk about the Buffalo bills defense.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: We talked last week about the draft class itself.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Today we'll be talking about some of the draft picks.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll be talking about them more in the context of the defense and how it should
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't draft a nose tackle.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: We did draft a defensive tackle out of Penn State, but we drafted zero nose tackles.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: And so that being said, you know, some bills fans are concerned that the three, four defense that we are trying to run is not going to work.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: And so before I get into the comments are humming.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go ahead and address you guys because you guys are some of my favorite people before the show even started when this thing got scheduled I mean Kim boom how come at 505 p.m. saying happy Sunday is he happy Sunday Kim Always being here for me.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you're watching right now, but if you aren't I get it that you dropped this earlier and if you just drop it earlier because you saw that I posted it then Thanks for doing that too.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: But we got Robert Hall in the building
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, my brother was good, my brother.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, life's good.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: What's the church this morning?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: Special time with the Lord, this and praying.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: My spouse is in Texas with my girls, and all my children, two of my children are here with me.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: My daughter's husband,
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: is in the air force now and he is graduating from basic training this week and so they are in Texas to go to his basic training graduation.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: My sons are unable to go one of them's dog sitting for them because they my daughters they both live together their twins.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're 23 and a half of an apartment with their two dogs and so my youngest son is watching their dogs and my older son lives here with me already and in some of the time my youngest lives here, but he's again dog sitting And so I am both alone and by myself this week So the show is extra necessary, but you know life is good.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: They arrived in Texas just fine next week.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be hitting up Some of music parks in the week after that for more of a weekend.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: We'll also be hitting up some of music parks.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to be a fun time.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: I might not be able to do show the next two weeks, so let's get this done.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do it.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: Now, from an el barca boy, go bills absolutely.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: Robert Hall back in the building with Mafia.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: You see the hat, baby.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: You see it.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: Go bills from El Barca again.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: Sandra El King.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: on the YouTube side and on the Facebook side, Izzy and Mafia, what up, what up, Izzy and Mafia.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Jacob Spears in the building.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back, Jacob, love you buddy.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: Hope you doing good.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: Having to have a hurt for you a little bit, but they will talk.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Kim Boomer, is here.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my man, Robert Hall says it's just Bobby.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I will try to remember that on terrible with names, Bobby.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: I can most likely remember that because my uncle, Robert goes by Bobby as well.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, easy.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a minute.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: Go bills.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Daniel Garries.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the channel.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the show.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you guys enjoy it because we're going to dig into the weeds a little bit.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the Buffalo bills are an interesting case this year, because.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: We had a long time head coach and Sean McDermott, right?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, he was a very successful head coach here.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: Some would argue he was not.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: I would disagree.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was a very good head coach, but not here to argue semantics about head coaching and all that good stuff.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: Here to discuss the changes to be expected.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: Because the offense shouldn't change too much.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: It may get a little edgy year.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the offensive coordinator who was is now the head coach.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: And now he has free reign to run his offense as he pleases.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't have to take the lead of Sean McDermott anymore.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how much influence Sean McDermott would have had.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not directly play calling but maybe giving him what he wants the next draft to look like.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: So on a so forth and now that is up to Joe Brady.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: The defenses were the major changes because Sean McDermott has been our defensive play caller.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: He and Bobby Babbage the last couple years have been that guy or those guys.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: And they ran a 4-3 base, which we really ran out of base.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: We ran out of 4-2-5 most of the time, so Terran Johnson saw the field.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: About 70% of the time, basically he was a linebacker, which explains why his career is kind of slowed down last year too, because he's he's hitting big guys and so now he's going to the Raiders and we'll see what happens there, but we've gone and we've signed a dealford and then we drafted corner back out of Ohio State Davidson, it would not it.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: He'd been no sin, but then we also drafted out of what you call it, uh, where is Torriado?
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: He is not on the website.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: What the heck is going on here?
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: I have the names here.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: We're not talking.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to do it.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: Torriano Pride Jr. We drafted.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: So we got some corners
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: And the Buffalo Bills, you know, first round of the draft, you know, we had questions, you know, a lot of Bill's friends doubting.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't say I blame him, you know, I was doubting too.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: People were saying firebrand and being in I can't lie.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't against what they were saying.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't exactly for it either, but I could see their frustration and understand, you know, how they came to that conclusion.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: But the buffalo bills went and they got some corners in the draft.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see where Toriano is, Nickelback, Toriano, Toriano, Toriano pride Jr. here he is out of Missouri.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: Mostly a slot corner back.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: ESPN has them listed as the outside corner, but he's most likely going to play in the slot.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll pick up in the sixth round.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think the bills killed Date three of the draft day two was like, oh no, day one was like, okay, we traded back And we had a feeling was gonna happen, right?
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: So the rookies that we picked up for our defense
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: Our Zandarant defensive tackle out of Penn State, who is going to be a defensive end for us most likely five tech or a four eye five tech meeting you are lined up over the tackle and and four eye being you're lined up in between guard and tackle generally speaking or just inside the shoulder of the tackle on the other side.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's probably going to be mishmash, depending on which side of the formation for the offense is the strong side.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: That'll determine, and the strong side means that the tight end is on that side.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: If you're running two tight ends, one on each side, then you're running even front basically on offense, which means that there is no strong side, and the defense is most likely going to start running even as well.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: So you'll have your defensive ends inside the tackle outside the guards with your defensive nose tackle sitting directly over the center and your outside linebackers one probably playing off the line and one playing on the line depending on if you're listening or if you want to show blitz then you'll also have your two linebackers in the middle.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: not a very complicated scheme in odd front, but sometimes it'll look like a 4 3 when you have one of your outside linebackers sitting back looking like he may be dropping the coverage and he might be blitzing and then you have the other guy who could drop back.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: So it gives you some exotic looks to 3 4 defense and we only have one nose tackle on the roster who I don't actually see as a nose tackle because he can move is the unlocker.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's six, seven.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Most of your nos tackles are like six, two, six, three, like three, 20 plus.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: He makes, he meets the weight requirement, but he doesn't really meet the style of player.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's a penetrator.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's not a blocker eater.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't do very good against blocks.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I guess nos tackles job is to eat blocks.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if, you know, that's the plan for him, but Deon Walker at the nose and I'm seeing a lot of confusion from other fans as to why this is the case.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: So let's see, Jacob's feet is Go Sabers.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Indeed.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: Sabers took that series in six.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: It was beautiful.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: They decided that they were just going to not allow the Bruins to make the game a physical game.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: They decided that they were going to go and play.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, fast like they're supposed to because they're not the more physical team and they just went around the Bruins.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in every single time they won and when they lost to the Bruins, they were losing because they were allowing the Bruins to dominate physically.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: And so what they do, they were like, nope, we're not taking this back to Buffalo.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: This is not going to be a seven game series.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: We're just going to go ahead and, you know, skate circles around you, kick your ass in your own town, pardon my French there and, you know, take the series.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: So go Sabers.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'm hoping that we see Montreal in the next round, but you know, it doesn't matter to me because I hope we win it all either way and if you're going to win it all either way, then you have to beat good teams.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: So yes, go sabers and go bills.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: Rookie camp is May 8th through the 11th.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so I'll have to do a recorded show or something like that.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Just to, you know, cover what happened in camp, but I'll do what I can to make something happen.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: See, man, if we have a lights out defense, we are gonna be Super Bowl bound no question.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: I agree Bobby, you know, it's a foregone conclusion if this defense can help up the offense.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: Cause if you look last year in the playoffs, I know a lot of people blame make them hit in the defense for losing that game and I couldn't do it.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: I had to put that on the offense.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: You give it five turnovers, 12 points off those and we lost by three.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: that is one oversimplification.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: The other oversimplification is the defense allowed points.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the defense allowed was it.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: 20 points.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: Without the turnovers, we lost what?
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: 33 to 30 in overtime.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: 21 points and then 12 points on field goals.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: If you give up a turnover in your own territory,
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: And your defense stops the other team and only allows a field goal.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's a win.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, that's your win.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: Now, if you turn over at the goal line, you know, someone follows it at the goal line, you gotta stop them, right?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: But if you drop the ball at your own 35, they should get points.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: They should get three.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: Every team should believe if our defense takes the ball away and we're on your 35, we're coming away with at least three.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: And the bill should feel that way too.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: So if you can apply that,
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: the defense played decent enough in that Broncos game, but the offense turned up all over way too much.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: And one of those turnovers was really not a turnover, but still four turnovers, you know, where points are scored off them is enough.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: And the last turnover didn't result in points.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: IGB for sure, yes, I think the notion, IGB for sure, I haven't watched a respect to McDermott, he did some great things, but this defense scheme couldn't get it done in the playoffs.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: It couldn't for a lot of times, we should have that last game against the Broncos.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I think against the, uh, the Patriots are offense was just too much.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: right we we showed them in the regular season they beat us the first time and then we came back and we we kicked their butts in the second time you know they were up 21 on us and then we just went on you know manhunt and just killed them so at that the defense was
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: It had its moments, but I think that this was the healthiest our defense had been going into the playoffs outside of Max Harrison and injuries during the game really cost us staying Jackson having to take a snap really cost us that's more on bread and being and then then Sean McDermott, but I just
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: I have a hard time talking about that game just because of, you know, how it ended.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, what it is when it is this in the past, the Buffalo Bills have made the moves that they've made, they're logical moves, I don't know, show you agree with all of them, but I can't argue with the logic behind it.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: So it is, you know, it is what it is in the words of Max Hirston, but not Max Hirston, Max Holloway.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: For Evergreen has been has done a pretty damn good job, especially trying to recover from the digs cap it.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he has.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we have had questions on the way because you don't know what's coming around the corner and some of the moves he's made have been quite risky and you just don't know if he's gonna be recover from this move but he felt he had to make this move and then it resulted in something else like the DJ More Trade.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: I love the DJ More Trade.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there was a issue between him
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: Chicago and I don't think it was a personal issue.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was more of a clashing of generations issue, like Cam Newton or Steve Smith, that kind of deal.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I know Bean would trade out of the first round.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think everybody knew that.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: We all knew, but some people were really upset about it, even though they knew it was going to happen.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: But if you know something's going to happen, you just got to let it be.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: Dwayne Carter is muscleing up Brennan Bean and said he started at two three not two pounds.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: He was about three hundred three hundred two three and five pounds starting out if he can get around three to three 15 he can help in that rotation that knows So yeah, Dian Walker is losing weight and muscleing up that'd be nice to because I think he's going to be more of a four hour or five tech, you know, but if you're running the defense I think they're going to run, which is a very multiple three men front.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to have a true nose kind of like when we had collumes and Marshall Darious Marshall Darious was the bigger man.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: It was no question about that.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like Marshall Darius was like 320 pounds.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Cow Williams was like 310.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: Cow Williams is not no stack of size, but he was better equipped to play it.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: He was shorter and stouter.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: Darius was bigger taller and more of a penetrator.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Cow Williams was more of a space eater, and he was also more of a good use of hands type of player.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: Cow Williams hands were,
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: super underrated.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if people know this, but Colleem's was just a monster with his hands and that's why he As a fifth-brown pick being drafted in the same year as a first-brown pick in jama cargo at the same position The same year that Mario Williams was drafted first overall from the same team is jama cargo It goes to show that jama cargo was kind of benefiting off the fact that he had Mario Williams there and once that curtain was pulled
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was over.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: I can't wait to see the difference.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: I can't either.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: And so the way I see this defense playing, and I've heard some other people comment on this, I've seen, um,
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: I forget his name from cover one, and I've seen Jomorino talking about it, and I've seen the Big O'Jerry Astrosky talking about it, and I've seen a lot of other YouTube guys talking about it.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: And so I was confused until I was able to listen to some of these guys talk and feel out scheme.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: And one thing that they continuously pointed out is that the personal difference isn't going to be that crazy, because we're going to be mostly in our two four five, which is basically the same thing as it for two five differences, the edges are standing instead of having their hand at a dirt.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: One pushes in a dirt you're now in a three three five so four two five three three five.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: Russo and Chub, and these two guys have their hands on the ground, it's the same thing, basically, the only difference is one standing, one's at three point stats, they're the only real difference.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: The bigger difference is, if you're in a two, four, five, your edges can move around more.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: They can stunt easier.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: They'll have a faster step
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: They will be higher up.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: So defensive tech or offensive linemen, excuse me, offensive tackles will be able to get their hands on them more readily.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so this is why I could see the exotic nature of what Jim Leonard wants to do working here.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to bring back a little bit more that Rex Ryan flare.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: Because Rex Ryan ran a three, four, but it was very exotic.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of stunts, a lot of moving in the line.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: They had cow wings and undersized nose tackle.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: They had Marcel Darius on the outside.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: A lot like they on walkage probably to play.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: They had, you know, other guys like big dudes.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: I figured who they were, also on the line.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: But you had Mario Williams.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: You had Jerry Hughes.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: You had guys off the edge who could really play.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then you had a guy who's like Michael Hoyt,
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: or Michael Hoyt is like him because Michael Hoyt comes after, therefore Lorenzo Alexander, the low racks, predates him who could move around and blitz and do all kind of fun stuff.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: But I also believe that Kalyby Larmzor, Dory Wimps, and Toro Bernard can do that as well.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing is I believe that Toro Bernard is a little undersized for this defense.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: But if he's just shooting gaps,
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: shouldn't be a problem.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: The thing is, this defense is likely not going to be a two-gap defensive line.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: What is two-gap?
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'll explain.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: No stackable.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's a zero technique, right?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: So you have your gaps.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: You have your A-gap, you B-gap, you C-gap.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: Or your nose tackles is a regular center.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: The A-gap is on either side of the center.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: The B gap is on the outside shoulder of the guard, and then the C gap is outside of the tackles, okay?
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: A gap, B gap, C gap, zero tick on the center, one tick or three tick sits on the other side of the center, five ticks outside of that, and four eyes.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: One will line up outside shoulder of,
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: whatever tackle, the other will line up inside shoulder or directly over the tackle.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: We're just going to the inside shoulder of the tackle, the other one will line up directly over.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: You're seven texts technically, or, you know, sea gappers are going to be your edge rushers, which is also normal in a three in a four three.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: The difference is you don't have that extra big body in the middle to eat blocks.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: Technically, we don't either, but there is going to be an extra guy in there.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: And so to explain this a little bit better, with a two-gap scheme, your nose tackle is going to go straight forward, basically, through either one of the A-gaps or straight through the center.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be just trying to create, have it right at the middle.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: And then your two defensive ends, or your five-tech and four-eye, are going to be trying to move within the B-gap,
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: and the A gap.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes they'll even try to get around the C gap if it's an outside run.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: But if it's an inside run, they'll probably try and still cover the B gaps while the nose tackle eats space, right?
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's your two gaps scheme.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: You have one guy bull rushing and you have two
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: your defensive linemen move.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: So let's say you stunt your left defensive end inside.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: So instead of going through his normal B gap or C gap, what he's going to do is he's going to go around the nose tackle to the other side and the nose tackle will generate speaking shift towards where he came from in a stunt.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: Or you can have an edge rusher stunt inside while the defense event comes around the outside like I'm an him.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so defensive angles running outside outside linebacker swoops in to hit the gap.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: Stunting is going to be a huge part of this defense.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have guys blitzing as well.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be a lot of blitzes.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: You might like to run man because he likes to blitz.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: he was definitely very influential in this draft class and I know a lot of people have a hard time grasping that because we drafted TJ was a TJ Walker TJ Parker.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm terrible names, guys.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's a TJ Parker in the first round.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Who is a lot like Greg Russo and Bradley Chub.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's more like Bradley Chub than Greg Russo because he's not six seven like Greg Russo
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: It makes sense if you think about it.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Bradley Chubb is here in a three year deal.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: The Bill's can get out of it after the second year I believe.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: And you draft the player just like him to learn from him who can then grow behind Bradley Chubb.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: Not only that, but the part where people have a hard time grasping is that Jim Leonard was at Denver.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: But he was not the defensive coordinator, right?
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: So here's an explanation here for this.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: He was not the defensive coordinator.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: He was
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: Pascal coordinator, he is a safety former safety of the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and play for one of the team.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Baltimore, but Jim Leonard is now the defensive coordinator, right?
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: So Vans Joseph was the actual DC in Denver.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of people were hoping that the Bills would go after a Nick Benito type, like an arm racing Thomas, or a cash is how or, you know, later on, barum from Michigan.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Bill's plans were hoping for somebody like that, but they went and got themselves another Bradley Chubtite, which means that they still want to power rush from the outside, which is fine.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: Guys like that can stop the run.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Got like our mission Thomas and Cash is how are not very good against the run.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: Barham is better against the run.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's very raw prospect though.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: Very raw prospect.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be good, but it might take him a little bit more time to develop.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: into that that beast that he has the potential to be because he's a very strong player and he converts speed to power very well because he is quite fast and he gets a lot of his power from his speed.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: So that being said, you're going to see a lot of stunts from the edge rushers and the good thing about Greg Russo in his defense is he played safety in high school.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: He played quarterback,
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: Originally those were his positions and then he grew out of those positions obviously because he's six seven 285 or two to 75 or whatever it is He's he's just grew up into a big boy that just Naturally doesn't fit those spots anymore.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: He couldn't be the tight end, maybe maybe the hand things so great.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: So he moved over to edge rusher and Bob's your uncle, but he still has the skill set to potentially Covered down the field a little bit
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't expect him to cover, you know, 30 yards down the field, like a metmolonial used to do, I don't expect him to be dropping back in the deep zone, but cover the curl flats cover the hard flats, dropping to, you know, center field coverage is not deep center field, but the intermediate center field, you know, tight ends coming across with one of his own.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: He can drop back there.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of interest in what this defense is going to do.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, to to be totally blunt, everybody, I don't know exactly if I'm
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: But this is what's been explained by people who know This defense better than I do no three four better than I do.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: I could I can tell you about four three all day every day You know in my learning of the NFL and my journey through exes knows I've seen more four three than I've seen three four The only three four I really saw was Rex Ryan's and it was so exotic.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't grasp it.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't understand it
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: But we had Doug Marone, who had his defense according to Jim Schwartz, ran a wide nine, four, three defense.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: Then we had Sean McDermott, who ran a very multiple, four, three defense, mostly four, two, three.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: Now we're going back to a three, four much more similar to Rex Ryan's, and I'm hoping that this time around I can grasp it better, because I like understanding what I'm watching.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: When I was younger, I didn't really care to understand.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now I want to understand because it helps me control my emotions about what's happening on the field better, right?
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: If I know what's going on and I go, oh, okay, I see what happened here.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: They stunted Bradley Chub inside the guard was able to, you know, get him and so they were able to seal for the running back to, you know, get to the outside, but luckily, you know,
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I want to understand what's going on.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, they broke up a seven-yard run.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: Got the first down on third down, you know, what broke down.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: I want to, I want to see it.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: And if it's, you know, something that I can see and tell that it was our guy screw up, then I feel that reserves are right to be upset.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: But if it's just an awesome magnificent play by the offense, you know?
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: Especially if it's in trickeration, you know, if they're moving people around and they're doing trick plays, you know, fake jet sweep here and actual jet sweep there, you know, a flee flicker and they do a stuff, you know, to try and confuse the defense, I get it, you know, I get it.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: But still got a win the game.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: You still got a win the game.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: The game is on the line and for for having to say, please stay on your assignments.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's a very bell-a-checky and thing to say, you know, do you want to love it?
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: Is basically, do your job.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's your one of 11th.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is your job.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: You're a deep safety, you cover deep, right?
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: You're a nickel corner, you're covering the slot.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: Or you're covering a patch of grass and zone.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: This bill's defense is gonna be very mobile.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: There's gonna be a lot of moving pieces and you a lot of movement.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: It may struggle at first, both do the terminology changes, and due to players having to learn new assignments.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because the defense doesn't just change due to the amount of guys are in the front.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't change just based on now this Rousseau's rigorous outstanding up instead of having his hand in the dirt, but the defense isn't just changing by having only two linebackers
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: sometimes not a nickel out there, you know, to two inside landbackers, I mean, and it's not just changing the fact that it's man to man.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's changing all those things simultaneously.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: The bills want to run more man coverage now.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's that this is a philosophy of
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: Jim Leonard, a very man-centric guy, you put your safety's out there to do cleanup work and you drive to the ball, right?
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: You cover your guys, which is why they drafted Ignosen, I believe, because they wanted a third type of cornerback, more of a mallar, that corner than a pure speed guy, like Max Herston, who I expect to start and play most of the time,
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: but also if something happens to Max or Ignosin, you still have the other guy, but we needed depth of this position.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know depth in the second round is hard to swallow, but did you want to draft another Dane Jackson or go up to an Levi Wallace?
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have Sean McDonut coach that knows guys up.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: Sean McDonut was a wizard with those types of guys.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like we started a playoff game and almost beat the chiefs with Dane Jackson and Levi Wallace starting for us.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's how crazy that was.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Dane Jackson fizzled out and just wasn't as good as he was because he got smoked in that playoff game against Denver, but When he first played for the bills, it was serviceable so much so that he got signed to the Panthers on two year deal.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: He got cut after the first year.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the injury that he's standing Buffalo beforehand was probably too much and then he re-injured down in Carolina comes to Buffalo and I believe his time in the NFL is probably done.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: But somebody might sound to practice, go out and hold on to them.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: I hope it's not us, you know.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: I like Dan Jackson the person, but the player is one of his course here, Buffalo.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's also a zone corner in man.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: He gets cooked every single time.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: So he's not a fit for the scheme.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Try white.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: Probably not a fit for the scheme either.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: Could he play man?
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: Is that his best attribute?
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: No, he is a zone in phase cover corner back.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's not very good bumping and running.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: Ignosin is outstanding at that.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: He had some penalties in 2024, quite a bit.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was like 12 or 13.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: He had four this past year, four.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_01]: Most of his penalties came at the top of the route.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: Meaning he wasn't getting flagged for like holding and getting to handsy at the point where you meet the receiver at the line of scrimmage.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: He was, you know, not looking back for the ball when tracking it, when tracking receivers.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: He was making careless decisions, or he wasn't developed enough in his position to be able to do that very well.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I see Ignosin when we have bigger receivers and I've said this already, last show, when there's a bigger receiver core out there, right?
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: And you need,
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, freaking a Christian benford and in a bigger guy to cover the other corner, you might see them kick Max Harrison inside on a slot.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you may see him play more more dime in those times.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: And when we're playing a team like the Eagles, where they have a advantage myth.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's Max Harrison's job because the advantage myth makes cornerbacks like the notion looks slow.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: Even though he's not he makes those guys look slow.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: So the defense.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: very multiple matchup friendly and then also you're going to see a lot of movement, a lot of movement, a lot of stunts at the defensive line.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be pushing people around.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be trying to confuse offensive linemen.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be doing it all kind of crazy stuff because they're not going to be a bend but don't break defensive anymore.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: This defense is now a attacking front defense.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to try and get home with our
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: Now from 40 more from five, we're going to try and get home with those guys and we're going to use our other guys to cover the tight ends, the receivers, and run them back up the back field while also occasionally blitzing.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I would say occasionally, I mean, way more than McDermott did probably.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it also depends on personnel.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: If our guys are not so good at blitzing, you may see him blitz less.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: If you have guys who are really good at blitzing, you might see him blitz more.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: But the bills I believe have done a very, very good job at making sure that the coverage of stock, right?
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: There were a few years here where we were looking at defensive tackle and saying, wow, like we have one dude signed after this year, and Oliver's the only guy under contract.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, take one Jones is out of here, you know, unless we resigned him or freaking Stolo to Laylee at his time too.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: We had positions where we had no one.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: And now the covered are stockpiled on defense.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: So you have Greg Muso starting the first year of his four-year deal.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: You have Bradley Chub starting the first year of his three-year deal.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: You have a rookie in Parker.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: You have another rookie at the defensive tackle or defensive end now in Zane Durant out of Penn State who he's a mover.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's a shuffler.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: you have a safety in Jalen Kilgore who played a lot of slot so if need be he can move back into the slot.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to free up your handcock to move around as well.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: Those two players are going to be very influential on each other even though they play the same position.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: There may be times that you need to, you know, of that type of guy out there.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you got tight ends.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: You need to be covered.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you need one to blitz, one to cover somebody.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you need someone to eat a block, you know, you blitz them both.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: When the guy gets blocked, you can't block both of them.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: So this defense is going to be fun.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think, I think fun is the correct word to use for this defense.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very optimistic about it, but I also don't know.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: And so I reserve it right to be a little to question it.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're not questioning it, then you're really not caring too much about the team.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: A man and Bobby comes out, can't wait to see them to defame either.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: And Jerry was a dog.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Jerry Hughes was an absolute monster.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: It directs Ryan's defense.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_01]: He was an absolute monster.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just crazy.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: Kilgore has also done some puncturing.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: He has.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: Kilgore has done some puncturing.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: As has IGB, but he was kind of thrown in there.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, God.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: So they have guys who can return puns.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: Funny thing is, Scott had built hasn't returned puns.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't mean he can't.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: But I've been hearing that, Kian Coleman could return puns for the bills this year.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard Kulu secure could retain that job, but I wouldn't want to do that.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's our main slot receiver.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: He's been our number one guy basically for the last two years.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: And while he shouldn't be a number one receiver, he's earned the right for that respect.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, you never know if Kulishgir takes a big jump.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is the first year of his four-year contract.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: The coverage of stockpile, baby, they are stockpiled.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: We have two young safeties in Jordan, Hancock and in Jalen Kilgore, who have both been drafted last year in this year.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: And then still young, Cole Bishop, who will be eligible for a contract extension after this year, who led the league in pass rating allowed,
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: among all safeties this past year.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then you go to corner back Max Harrison, Ignosin and then a Toriono pride junior.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: Also Benford just signed his deal.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: So we have four corners locked up for the next four years.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: One of those guys that named is a slot, but we also got the offer who we locked up for three years.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: So our cornerback room is basically locked up for the next three years.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're pretty set at those positions now.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: I was not thinking in the same terms that Brandon Bean was thinking when he started putting this thing together.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: Now you look at linebacker.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: Linebacker for a lot of people was a big need to Robert and Argg gets hurt off and enough.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: Durian Williams was banged up a little bit last year, but for the most part he's been healthy.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Matt Milano's out of here.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: He's more of a different type of defense guy.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: Shaq Thompson could be a guy that did the ringback.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: He was talking about wanting to get some money.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't really, that's gonna happen.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, he could be somebody who ends up back here on a, you know, light priced deal.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: And the bills might not be done adding players to this, you know, they have a practice squad for a reason.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: But like the starting defense to me is almost basically set other than the defensive line.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_01]: Right as of right now is TJ Sanders, Dion Walker, at Oliver.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_01]: Behind them, Dwayne Carter, Federian Methods, Zane Durant, Zion Logue, Tommy, A King Bistode, Bistode.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: I could see us adding another defensive tackle.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: I can see us adding another guy.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: Dwayne Carter will probably kick in right behind Dion Walker.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: I also know Federian Mathis is probably going to be better fitted in this defense.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's three and twelve pounds.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: He could be a guy who kicks into the no-stackle spot.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: So you could have three no-stackles on this roster, or one of those guys who was the practice squad, but also Zion load is another big guy who can clog the middle, six but six, three, twenty, five.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: So we have some big tackles who could potentially be no-stackles.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: Zandarant, Tommy, a king bisote, who is 643-16, so he could be a guy, you know, I don't, I wouldn't necessarily count on it, but could be a guy.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's a 2825, 7th round pick.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, this, this could be very interesting.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: You just never know where the diamonds in a row would come from.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: Limebacker being a spot-world confusion again with the injuries to Bernard and Williams last year having Joe and Jason Jimi Charlo and Keyon to Jenkins is the only options behind them was kind of concerning.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: So what do you do for Brown, you draft Killy Williams or which some people had with a third round grade?
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm in the fourth.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: Scholar Bell, people who had second round grades on him.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: got him in the fourth.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: So the fourth and fifth round were really kind of a masterclass for Brandon Bean, especially on the defense.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at the defensive side of the ball here, as well.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Cole Bishop, Jalen Kulgorg, Gino Stone, Demar Hamlin, Jordan Hancock, Sam Franklin, Jr., I don't see Demar Hamlin making the team.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I like I love the more Hamlin's character.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: I love the more Hamlin's, you know, demeanor.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm gonna be totally honest.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's probably the odd man out.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: He might be to, you know, get up on the practice squad.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody else might wanna bring him in.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see a active roster spot for him.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: Then looking at, you know, corner back, you have David Ignosin and you have Christian Benford.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: You have Max Herston, freaky in Fernando Pride, Darrell Porter Jr.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: The bills needed to draft some corners.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: They just did.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: They needed to draft some corners.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: Nickle, CJ Gardner Johnson, Jellon Cougar, and D Alfred is who they have on ESPN.com.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think it'll be D Alfred, CJ Gardner Johnson, Jellon Cougar.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think that drafting Jellon Cougar also was the perfect time to draft a corner or safety.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: Excuse me.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: land in Jackson is what is bills only player considered a defensive end as of right now he's the only one on the active rosters a defensive end but if you're truly running a three four I mean, you know what it is I mean, let's you want to call those positions for eye five tech in those tackle, you know, it is what it is.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: Rumor is Javan Solomon is better suited for this defense.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: So Brandon being actually said that the day he drafted Javan Solomon So after that draft three years ago Javan Solomon got drafted by the bills and they were like, look, we couldn't pass them up.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: He was just too good to pass them up He's sitting there.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: He had 16 sacks last year at Troy, but he's not a hand in dirt kind of guy and so if
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: They still believe in him.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: And if he can prove right, which I hope they I hope he can because he's now in a defense that he's going to be more familiar with Javan Solomon could be a piece that really turns out to be, you know, better late to never.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we got some ex people coming on here.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: The bill should have grabbed the disruptive run stuffing those tackle K McDonald out of Ohio State.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't disagree with you here.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: He's who I wanted.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: I really wanted K McDonald.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: To me, this is intentional, and here's why, if they really needed a nose tackle, they would have got one.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: There was a bunch of nose tackles available, and they chose not to.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I have no idea, but I agree with the point, like if they're running a traditional three, four defense, you've got to have that big fat bastard in the middle.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to have them, you've got to have that 325 plus dude.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: We have a couple of guys who were big like that, but they're not nose tackles.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: They're not space-eaters.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: They're not wide.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: Dion Walker is big and tall, six, seven.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: But he's got some width to him, but he's not like, he's not a teapot.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's a jug.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: to Houston Texans grab him on the next pick at 36.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_01]: We can chalk up that Houston game as a loss.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Remember Josh Allen was lucky to finish that Texans game.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: He suffered eight sex just saying, I don't just agree with that point either, but I also don't know how much influence some of the different ones on the offense.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: So there are things that can be done to mitigate that.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: question is, is Joe Brady the guy to do that, to mitigate that.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: See, tomorrow, great story, but man, not a good enough.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I would, I would go as far as to say that tomorrow, Hamlin is a good enough safety to roster on some teams.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's a good enough safety to play.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: You some downs.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_01]: He is not good enough to remain on his team.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_01]: With the firepower, we have now a safety.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's not better in coal Bishop, obviously.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's not better in CJ Gardner, Johnson.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's not better in Gdostone.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: And he's probably not better in Jen and Kilgore.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: And the last safety spots are going to go to Sam Franklin Jr., special teamer.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't really play defense.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: They have to give him the safety designation because they don't have a ST player designation.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Hancock just had so shoulder surgery.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: Another reason to draft a jailing kill gore and a torrent on a pride junior.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for addressing this.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_01]: Could you read the second part of my comment please?
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: Where does this receive?
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: We can talk and receive over there.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: I did read the second part of that.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, oh, this right here, uh, and Jason and Charlo should be playing more of this coming season.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: They are great ball hawks.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: We can't continue.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: They have pretty good players, not playing.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: We underutilized Tyrell Shavers and Kalushikir in their first years, agree with that.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: The problem is the depth in front of them, right?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I expect them to see the field some because, to Robert August hurt.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: He does, he gets hurt.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that, you know, Tyrell Shapers his first year.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he was developed enough, but he earned it last year, and he saw the field quite a bit.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: He saw a lot of snaps.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: He just didn't see a lot of targets.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that if he didn't get hurt this year, you'd see a bump in his targets, because I think that his play itself was better than the play of, uh,
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: on Coleman.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: Even though statistically he on put a better numbers, you look at the all the play, the whole picture, past blocking.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you know, he's on the inside behind the offensive line.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then what happens?
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: He goes out there and he's blocking and then cutting, coming off to run
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: Kalushakir's first year.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: He should have saw the ball more.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: But again, I think that's more of a Josh thing.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: Josh takes to some players slower than others.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: But once he forms that bond, it seems to be kind of a permanent thing.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like with digs, it wasn't because digs, right.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: But with Cole Beesley, once they got locked in, they were locked in.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: Once he got locked in with Kalushakir, they're locked in now.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: Once he got locked in with.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_01]: Gabe Davis locked in right he trust those guys so he had to build that trust Kalee was Kalee she here especially when Kalee she here joins the team when we have Diggs Davis and you know Sanders at the time Right so he was he was the fourth guy down the pepper mortar at best
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: But when he saw the field, he made some plays like that crazy catching Pittsburgh between three defenders.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: He just got up in the air and caught that brought like I'm a big I'm a big fan of that.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: But Shabar's blocking is just outstanding and he's willing like he he's a guy who had to earn his way on this team undrafted rookie free agent never gave up on himself continually persevered gave it is all and in the end got hurt because of that and now he's recovering
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: And he probably won't be able to play again to age 28 season.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: He was 26 last year.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be 27 this year.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: Meaning if he doesn't get to play this year at all, he won't be playing again until he's 28.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: So he had to slow play getting to this point and then he gets hurt.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: His first year making the freaking roster.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: That hurts.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: However, the story before that is still freaking awesome.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's still awesome.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you don't believe the story
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: Tyrell Shavers spent three years on the practice squad, and then finally goes out and just shuts everybody up, earns his roster spot, and then stays.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: He made the 53 people like, all right, you know, Shavers might get cut, you know, the 53 is never final.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: No, he was not the whole year.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: I was so happy for the kid.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: I can say kid, I'm at least 14 years old in his.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: There's that, but man, like, very, very happy for the kid, but now I'm sad for him because he did have to go through that, and now it's going to be 28.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, thanks for addressing this, because you are a judge that when people have asked that being doesn't like nose tackles.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder for some fans have heard that being made, they have said he doesn't believe in the nose.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I've never heard Brennan mean say that.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think Brennan being drafts mostly for the position.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: He was part of the team that drafted Starlota Laleigh, you know, granted Starlota Laleigh played one tech and not zero tech, but a one tech can usually pretty easily slide into the zero.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, a guy like a Kyle Williams can slide in there.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_01]: Jason, I know it's, it's allergies are killing me.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know how true that is, but
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: is it's really good.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: James was a phenomenal run blocking.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: He was absolutely phenomenal run blocking.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: And he was phenomenal on a touch pushes.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: And it's phenomenal basically playing tight in at times because our boy, your concave was hurt often enough.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so to not give away the fact that we were not sending him out on a route, shivers got in there at times at tight end.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: The shivers is the best while out in running, running, blocking hands down.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_01]: He is on this team.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's absolutely the best blocking we're seeing.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's, when we say that, like, the kid's good, the kid's good.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's no hard.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: You're not.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_01]: Total shivers is a very, very good blocking receiver.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_01]: And he's got good hands.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: Route running could use more polish, but he's got good hands.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: Remember to shave his towards ACL in a Jacksonville game in the second quarter and play the whole game still what a warrior?
- 50:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what a freaking dog dude.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_01]: That dude's a man-able
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: He ain't fully man, he ain't fully animal, he's a man, I'm all that man can play.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I was very pleased with what we got on a Tyrell Shavers.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: This defensive show is going to turn to the offense quite a bit, but that's cool.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_01]: I covered what I really wanted to on the defense.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: So being interactive is really my main goal of this show.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_01]: So anybody who's watching this show, to understand, my main goal is almost always to be
- 51:10[SPEAKER_01]: interacted with you guys you guys have questions I want to answer the best I can if I don't know something I will usually tell you I don't know or I will sit here with it like a freaking reels cube and try and figure it out just twisting and turning to the colors line up We also lost Gabe in that Jacksonville game like we took some some damage in that Jacksonville game You know And Gabe was starting to come on a little bit Gabe's always been a good run blocker, but He was a draft pick so he always got his opportunities
- 51:41[SPEAKER_01]: Kulishkir was always going to get his opportunities, so long as he worked hard and showed progress.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: Tyrell Shavers had to get that out of the mud, out of the mud.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: So this year, back to the defensive stuff, I'll try and cover my concerns.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_01]: My concerns as of right now are mostly injuries and no stack will.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: Not sure we need a proper nose, but it is what it is.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: At Oliver's coming off an injury, he played our last game last year.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know if he's still injured or if he's rehabbing or had a surgery.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: Duane Carter coming off a surgery last year, his season was done before started.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Hoyt coming off the Achilles and Landon Jackson coming off of the ACL.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_01]: Some concern there.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_01]: During William's intro Bernard being nicked up last year.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think they'll be fine, but we do have some depth behind the now and I'm okay with that.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_01]: Bradley Chub played all last year, he played decent last year on a really, really pissed poor Miami Dolphins defensive blind.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: He still got his.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: The second there, I'm not really that worried about other than Maxwell Harrison, and of course, the personality, you know, and personal being that is Dorian Strong.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_01]: Max Harrison, you know, being injured last year was a concern he's a smaller corner.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a concern.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is part of why most teams don't draft small of corners.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_01]: You look at guys like Pat Surtane, guys like, you know, Kyra Elim who we drafted in the first round and Christian Benford.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_01]: They're bigger guys.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: You're seeing bigger corners coming out now.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: The small guys you use a C play in a slot like, Janet, like the Alfred.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: Some teams like you even a big slot though.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: like a Jalen Kilgore or a Terren Johnson, who was like 190, 195, because he was a bigger nickel.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: The bills defense have some players coming up injury, and that's my big concern for the most part.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_01]: The defensive line, I think they'll sort that out, and free agency and over, you've still got time.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: Bro unfortunately Gabe is a constant injury concern last three years got a move on.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: I know I know I do love Gabe Davis though.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's one of my favorite players as a wide receiver three or four Right as watching the two wasn't very fond of him He gave me the same production as a wide receiver two as they did as a wide receiver three or four So just making more watching before he's still gonna get you seven hundred yards and eight touchdowns leaving where he's at
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: but I guess you have to show progress, but you don't have to show progress.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: If you just play your game, then you go to Jacksonville, doesn't work out there.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: You come back, you know?
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: You get paid when you get paid.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: But these, you know, wire shivers three and four, they're getting paid now.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: Christian Kirk broke that bank that one year, going to Jacksonville.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_01]: Then they paid the game Davis three years, 39 million dollars, and they cut them after he got hurt.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: Who was signing to be our nickel package corner?
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: So we already have that.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: We have a D-Alfred, and we drafted Toriano Pride Jr.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_01]: So those guys right there are your nickels.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_01]: Also, Jen and Kilgore and CJ Garner Johnson can both play in nickel.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_01]: We have other safeties, just depends on how they decide to mix and match the players.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_01]: Because again, this is going to be a very multiple, very hybrid.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: three, four, two, four, five defense.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_01]: The Buffalo bill is going to be running and it's going to be very interesting because you're going to see players in places where you're like, why is he there and not over there?
- 55:30[SPEAKER_01]: And it's mostly going to be with the front seven, the linebackers and defensive linemen.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: The corners are most likely going to be lined up over there target, but you're going to see the safety, you know, two high, one high, both of them down crashing in, like the safety is
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: The Jags were playing cutthroat, the injured game on purpose.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: It felt like they did, it felt like they did, because he went low on game.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: That was dirty.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_01]: see we have some bad luck ridiculous offfield injuries last year need better look this is yeah and the training staff's got to get better granted this is the training staff that saved the life of uh tomorrow hamlin if i'm correct but yeah like that's one of those things on that checklist that came out of bad things about the team so yeah uh what's the status on quarterback safety
- 56:28[SPEAKER_01]: And we still don't have an update as to how his football career could continue or not.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_01]: So, prayers for him.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'll say a prayer from at the end of this.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_01]: I've started going to church four weeks ago and I haven't stopped since.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_01]: So, prays me to God.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I have to learn to start praying more.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_01]: But again, four weeks started to learn, getting into it, we'll say a prayer form.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: Kilgler was a steal for sure, absolutely steal.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_01]: Absolute steal.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_01]: Shearing on the second round.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: We should have took him in the second round.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_01]: He was at practice with a neck brace.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_01]: At least he was at practice.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully there's some hope for him.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: He played good, and then he got hurt.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_01]: My concern is good cornerback depth.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think we have depth now with RGB on the team now.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, Toriola Pride can play inside and out, most likely to play inside, but yeah, for sure.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for addressing this.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: You're very welcome.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: You're very welcome.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_01]: You asked him pretty good questions.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_01]: A little bro.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for coming to visit me today, brother.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_01]: I love you.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_01]: Go Bills.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_01]: You kind of hear at the end of the show though, because I'm here to sign off.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_01]: So guys, we have discussed the defense.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_01]: We've discussed some of the offense.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_01]: We've discussed some of the great stories of the Buffalo Bills.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: So now I am going to bum my head and pray and you may too for the health and welfare of this team.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_01]: And more importantly, Dorian's Toronto recovery.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_01]: So, there we go.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: Heavenly Father, I come to you to pray today, that you bless this team with good health.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: You bless all the fans with good health.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_01]: You bless everybody with good health.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: But I want you to pray more directly for the Buffalo Bill's, Bill's mafia, the coaching staff.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_01]: That this team is healthy, and that this team is able to put together a good season and win a championship.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_01]: even more directly, I want to pray for the health and well-being of Dorian Strong, cornerback for the Buffalo Bill's drafted last year from Virginia Tech, who injured his neck early in the season and his football career is online and if you're willing to save his career Lord, please do so and if you're willing to have him do something else.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_01]: with the church or not, it'd be nice if he did it without having to have his neck bothered and for the rest of his life.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_01]: Please, Lord, address these issues for us.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: I know you have big of things to worry about them football, I know you have big of things to worry about them a lot of things, but this is what I ask you be today in the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_01]: Amen.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: Amen, guys.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to end it like always.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_01]: Be good, do good.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: God bless, God bills, baby.
