- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, a WAVE original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. We are going to talk about a bizarre
- 0:23Speaker 1: holiday weekend of NFL football. In theory, we should be
- 0:27Speaker 1: like talking about rivalry week, the whole totality of the
- 0:32Speaker 1: rivalry week. But honestly, there wasn't that much interesting that happened,
- 0:37Speaker 1: actual factual with the rivalry games. Texas A & M
- 0:41Speaker 1: historical eight-win program. It's impossible for them to be an
- 0:44Speaker 1: eight-win program this year, but it can feel like eight
- 0:48Speaker 1: wins and losing to Texas again.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Losing to Texas on a quarterback draw by a white
- 0:56Speaker 2: feels like an eight-win.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, man. And you just can't understand Ryan.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The entire existence and self-esteem of those people is centered
- 1:05Speaker 1: around their relationship and their orbit to the University of Texas, right? Like,
- 1:09Speaker 1: you go listen to their fight song, that's just all
- 1:11Speaker 1: it's about. It was so funny when they lost last year.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Didn't they get their asses kicked last year, too?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't close.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yeah, where it was, they've been waiting on that game
- 1:20Speaker 1: for 13 years since Case McFucking Coy walked them down
- 1:26Speaker 1: to send them out of the Big 12 forever. And
- 1:29Speaker 1: they got the first reinstallment of the Texas-Texas A &
- 1:32Speaker 1: M game at the crib, and they got blasted. Like,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Sart gave it to Elko. Oh, my God, it's so funny.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I don't care what happens to Texas anymore when it
- 1:42Speaker 1: comes to football, but who you at Elko? Okay, I
- 1:45Speaker 1: understand that that's going to be difficult for some of
- 1:47Speaker 1: you people, and I prefer it to Joel Anderson when
- 1:49Speaker 1: I say that. But at the same time, nah, just
- 1:53Speaker 1: Aggie misery. Here for it. There was also a hilarious
- 1:57Speaker 1: moment where Auburn, Alabama went late. It was a little
- 2:00Speaker 1: closer than it was supposed to be. Alabama scored a
- 2:03Speaker 1: late touchdown, and they showed a clip of Kalen DeBoer,
- 2:06Speaker 1: and that exhale that he gave is every point I've
- 2:09Speaker 1: been trying to make to you about that Alabama job.
- 2:11Speaker 1: He was like, great, now I don't have to buy
- 2:12Speaker 1: myself a new windshield because somebody's going to throw a
- 2:15Speaker 1: brick through it. But no, no, no, guys. Everything in
- 2:18Speaker 1: this weekend was about Lane Kiffin and trying to be
- 2:23Speaker 1: careful about certain things. Right? So, for example, this thing
- 2:30Speaker 1: happened after the, you know, the Ole Miss people, there's
- 2:33Speaker 1: a lot going on there. And there's a very crude
- 2:35Speaker 1: expression that you may have heard before that says that
- 2:37Speaker 1: you can't turn a hoe into a housewife. That's what
- 2:40Speaker 1: people say often. Some dude that covers Ole Miss, he
- 2:43Speaker 1: was doing a podcast, and he used that analogy to
- 2:46Speaker 1: refer to Lane Kiffin, was saying that you can't turn
- 2:49Speaker 1: a hoe into a housewife, which in the analogy made
- 2:52Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin the hoe. And you can get as technical
- 2:55Speaker 1: and equivocate on this as much as you want and say—
- 2:59Speaker 1: He didn't call Lane Kiffin a hoe. He said that
- 3:02Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin exhibited the qualities of hoes. And that's the
- 3:05Speaker 1: kind of thing you say when somebody else get called
- 3:08Speaker 1: a hoe.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But if somebody actual factual calls you a hoe, you're
- 3:13Speaker 1: not trying to hear all of this. No, no, no, no, no.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It was in a matter of speaking. That's not going
- 3:20Speaker 1: to happen. So anyway, Lane Kiffin saw the dude after
- 3:23Speaker 1: the egg bowl, and he rolled up on him and said,
- 3:26Speaker 1: you want to call me a ho, step in the back,
- 3:28Speaker 1: and we'll see how that goes, right? I'm Team Lane
- 3:33Speaker 1: on this one. I don't feel like I have the
- 3:36Speaker 1: right to tell people that they just got to get
- 3:38Speaker 1: over somebody calling them a ho. I don't feel like
- 3:43Speaker 1: I'm allowed to do that. Now, in a more egregious example,
- 3:46Speaker 1: you may recall when Taylor Swift did Kanye West did
- 3:51Speaker 1: Famous on the Pablo album. And he said, talking about
- 3:56Speaker 1: Taylor Swift, and he had the line in there, and
- 3:58Speaker 1: I quote, I made that bitch famous. And a lot
- 4:01Speaker 1: of people were acting like, oh, she was tripping by
- 4:03Speaker 1: being upset with it. But I'm like, I don't think
- 4:05Speaker 1: I get to tell Taylor Swift how she responds to
- 4:07Speaker 1: being called a bitch. You understand what I mean? Like,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I just don't feel like I have the right to
- 4:12Speaker 1: do that. That, what happened with Lane Kiffin and that
- 4:16Speaker 1: dude is not quite as extreme, shall we say, as
- 4:19Speaker 1: that particular case, right? But it's still the same point.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Somebody call you a hoe. You get to at least
- 4:25Speaker 1: get up in their face. And when he got up
- 4:26Speaker 1: in Buddy's face, Buddy looked like he was about to
- 4:28Speaker 1: boo-boo on himself and then got on Twitter talking tough.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And I'm like, come on, man. What you have done
- 4:33Speaker 1: is put me in an impossible position. And the position
- 4:36Speaker 1: is that I have to defend Lane Kiffin. And I
- 4:40Speaker 1: don't like having to do that. But the other problem
- 4:43Speaker 1: that we have from this is All the ways that
- 4:47Speaker 1: I want to refer to the ways that Lane Kiffin
- 4:49Speaker 1: has behaved in the course of the last couple weeks,
- 4:53Speaker 1: it all involves me referring to him in ways that
- 4:56Speaker 1: were I Lane Kiffin, I would pull up on me
- 5:00Speaker 1: and I would then say, hey, you say that back
- 5:04Speaker 1: there and then we go talk about it. Like... Ryan,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I don't, I try not to throw it around. Like,
- 5:13Speaker 1: so cloud. Cloud is where I am on this. It's
- 5:17Speaker 1: cloud fair game.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Cloud star game.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Like, for me to actually say somebody is a cloud.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yes.
- 5:24Speaker 2: For me.
- 5:26Speaker 1: That is going to a place where I feel like
- 5:28Speaker 1: if you call me a full-on clown, yo, what the
- 5:31Speaker 1: fuck are you talking about right now? I think I've
- 5:33Speaker 1: established myself in such a way that being called a
- 5:36Speaker 1: clown is a very egregious thing for you to do.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And therefore, I feel like in a lot of ways,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I should extend that grace and courtesy to somebody else.
- 5:45Speaker 1: But I don't feel like Lane Kiffin has put in
- 5:47Speaker 1: the work to be a dignified person in the way
- 5:49Speaker 1: that I have. Therefore, perhaps I don't need to be
- 5:52Speaker 1: so shy about calling this motherfucker a clown. I also
- 5:56Speaker 1: realize that while I'm fretting over clown, I just called
- 6:00Speaker 1: him a motherfucker. I get all of that, right? Like,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I don't... None of the words that I know apply
- 6:09Speaker 1: to somebody who does the things that he does. All
- 6:13Speaker 1: of them feel... All of them feel beneath me and...
- 6:20Speaker 1: We all know the real problem. If you fight Lane Kiffin,
- 6:24Speaker 1: he's going to call the cops. Right? Like, Ryan, I
- 6:30Speaker 1: told you about when I ran up on that one
- 6:32Speaker 1: dude during the Super Bowl.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And I'm just like, I know he'll call the cops,
- 6:36Speaker 1: or I know he'll sue. Right? But this guy, this guy.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Hold on. Not this guy, Ryan. Your guy.
- 6:48Speaker 2: My guy.
- 6:49Speaker 1: LSU's new head coach.
- 6:51Speaker 2: LSU's new head coach, Lane Kiffin.
- 6:52Speaker 1: LSU's new head coach, Lane Kiffin. Okay. Let me take
- 6:57Speaker 1: a break from all the clown stuff, right? I need
- 6:59Speaker 1: to gather myself. I need to get to this other
- 7:02Speaker 1: stuff while I can. Because none of that was exaggerated,
- 7:06Speaker 1: by the way. I couldn't figure out.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I sent you the tweet. And this is, at minimum,
- 7:15Speaker 2: the third most drama that Lane has had leaving somewhere.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yes, there was when he got fired on the tarmac.
- 7:23Speaker 1: He got fired on the sideline. They told him on
- 7:26Speaker 1: the tarmac. And his number two, the Kiffin Riots of 2010.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Correct.
- 7:31Speaker 2: When it was burned down in Knoxville.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Yes, when he left Tennessee in the middle of the
- 7:36Speaker 1: night and never dawned on them. Also, what is forgotten
- 7:40Speaker 1: in that story is how wild it is that the
- 7:43Speaker 1: NCAA was about to bring the hammer to them.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:50Speaker 1: The hammer. And Mike Garrett hired Lane Kiffin anyway. Right.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That was a middle.
- 7:58Speaker 2: After he got fired in disgrace in Oakland. Yes. And
- 8:01Speaker 2: Al Davis said what he said about him.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But look, you're about to get the hammer brought down
- 8:06Speaker 1: to you from the NCAA for the behavior of this regime.
- 8:09Speaker 1: And you double down on it. Right. Hiring Lane. That
- 8:13Speaker 1: was a wild moment.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Okay. But anyway, 2010 was a different time for a
- 8:20Speaker 2: lot of reasons.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. So yes, that is a, that this is,
- 8:25Speaker 1: this is number three and this. Okay. So the difference
- 8:29Speaker 1: between this, well, I mean, don't forget the, the, the
- 8:32Speaker 1: exit from the Raiders may have actually been messier because
- 8:35Speaker 1: it made Al Davis break out that overhead projector and
- 8:38Speaker 1: offer prophetic language about how it is that this guy
- 8:42Speaker 1: will bring disgrace and dishonor. Cause remember he wrote a
- 8:44Speaker 1: little Tennessee hire him. He wrote a letter to Tennessee
- 8:49Speaker 1: to tell them that Lane Kiffin would bring disgrace and dishonor.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Upon their program.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And one year later, he did that exact thing. This
- 9:00Speaker 1: one's different though, right? Because this one got into a very,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I don't know if strange place is the right way
- 9:08Speaker 1: to put it, but It's the fact that Ole Miss
- 9:11Speaker 1: is 11-1 and they're probably going to the college football playoff.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And that leads to a very, very difficult decision for
- 9:19Speaker 1: somebody like Lane Kiffin. Because look, he reasonably understands. There's
- 9:23Speaker 1: no way that he could come back and coach that team.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Like that just, that wasn't on the board. I talked
- 9:30Speaker 1: about this in a previous show. It's one thing when
- 9:33Speaker 1: it's Urban Meyer and he's at Utah and he's about
- 9:36Speaker 1: to go to Florida. LSU's head coach can't be in
- 9:41Speaker 1: Ole Miss's building, right? And you know how, not only
- 9:45Speaker 1: is Lane messy, Lane is a habitual line stepper. He
- 9:48Speaker 1: gonna be calling recruits from the office phone. Like, he
- 9:52Speaker 1: can't be using y'all's internet to look up that stuff.
- 9:55Speaker 2: And recruiting everyone on his team, potentially.
- 9:58Speaker 1: That, yes. like like like this is this this was
- 10:03Speaker 1: a non-starter it never could be a thing and so
- 10:06Speaker 1: the reports are that lane goes to the old miss
- 10:09Speaker 1: people and says hey if i don't get to stay
- 10:13Speaker 1: and coach this team into the playoff then i'm going
- 10:17Speaker 1: to take all of the assistants, and all of the players. Well,
- 10:22Speaker 1: what the fuck was your other plan, Lane? What are
- 10:27Speaker 1: you telling me? That otherwise you weren't going to try
- 10:30Speaker 1: to do these things? What are you talking about? That
- 10:33Speaker 1: was going to be what you tried no matter what.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So The reporting indicates that Lane was trying to get
- 10:40Speaker 1: his staff, get his guys, right, get as many of
- 10:43Speaker 1: them to come with him to Ole Miss. Brett McMurphy
- 10:45Speaker 1: of all three got a quote from somebody that said,
- 10:48Speaker 1: leave it to Lane Kiffin to try to burn a
- 10:50Speaker 1: bridge while he's standing on it. Okay, but. He wanted
- 10:54Speaker 1: to go to LSU, and he also wanted to coach
- 10:57Speaker 1: this team in the playoff and tried to basically extort
- 11:00Speaker 1: the ability to stay and coach this team because he
- 11:03Speaker 1: said that if he left, he would just take all
- 11:06Speaker 1: the players. And no, that didn't work. Then we got
- 11:09Speaker 1: a report, and this one's a little shaky, but the
- 11:12Speaker 1: report is that Lane Kiffin told the offensive coaches that
- 11:15Speaker 1: either you come with me on this plane to Baton
- 11:18Speaker 1: Rouge or there ain't no job for you. And it
- 11:21Speaker 1: appears that only Charlie Weiss Jr., whom Lane Kiffin made
- 11:24Speaker 1: offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic without a resume to indicate
- 11:27Speaker 1: such things when he had that job. He's the only
- 11:31Speaker 1: one that got on the plane. Right.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It's like him, the GM, maybe the strength coach, 247's reporting,
- 11:39Speaker 2: but it's certainly not the litany.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It's no assistance.
- 11:42Speaker 2: No, it's no real assistance.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Right. So Pete Golding, who's the defensive coordinator, has been
- 11:47Speaker 1: made the head coach at Ole Miss. But as things
- 11:50Speaker 1: stand right now, we have no report or indication that
- 11:53Speaker 1: any of the other Ole Miss assistants are coming with
- 11:56Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin. Now, there are two ways to look at this, right?
- 11:59Speaker 1: One of them is they think Lane's a clown, which
- 12:01Speaker 1: is on the board, but I don't That's not in totality.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You didn't just go find out. You didn't just find
- 12:08Speaker 1: out that Lane's a clown. You knew this already.
- 12:10Speaker 2: He's been there for six years.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Also, he's been Lane Kiffin for as long as we've
- 12:15Speaker 1: known who Lane Kiffin was. His entire existence is marked
- 12:20Speaker 1: by clown behavior. I forgot about one exit.
- 12:23Speaker 2: The Alabama one.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Oh yeah, when Nick Saban sent him home the week
- 12:27Speaker 1: of the championship game because he had another job that
- 12:30Speaker 1: he was a little bit too focused on. But the
- 12:34Speaker 1: next part of this that nobody's talking about, I don't
- 12:37Speaker 1: want to say nobody's talking about it because I'm not
- 12:41Speaker 1: that brilliant. Somebody maybe has brought this up. But I
- 12:43Speaker 1: am fascinated by the idea that never have assistant coaches
- 12:47Speaker 1: ever had more leverage than the Ole Miss assistants had
- 12:50Speaker 1: as of right now. Because here's the thing. They're making
- 12:56Speaker 1: the argument this is the best Ole Miss football team
- 12:57Speaker 1: of all time. That is totally on the board. They
- 13:00Speaker 1: are going to go into the playoff. I think we
- 13:02Speaker 1: all agree that that is the case. But if all
- 13:06Speaker 1: of their coaches leave, they are really in shaky ground
- 13:11Speaker 1: with the committee about what they do with them in
- 13:14Speaker 1: terms of seating and if they actually get to go
- 13:17Speaker 1: or whatever it is, because that would make them a
- 13:20Speaker 1: much different team if they had a zombie coaching staff
- 13:24Speaker 1: out there, right? Now, I also imagine that coaching staff
- 13:27Speaker 1: wants to coach in this playoff. Now, we'll talk to
- 13:30Speaker 1: Spencer on Tuesday about the playoff in general because this is–
- 13:35Speaker 1: you guys asked for this nonsense, and this is part
- 13:37Speaker 1: of what we get in the story of this. But anyway,
- 13:41Speaker 1: Ole Miss needs to do whatever it can to keep
- 13:43Speaker 1: this team together if for no other reason than they
- 13:45Speaker 1: want to spike Kiffin. And these players, it sounds like,
- 13:50Speaker 1: want to spike Kiffin. Okay?
- 13:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 13:54Speaker 1: So when Lane is like, you guys coming with me,
- 13:57Speaker 1: those assistants know that Ole Miss knows that Lane wants
- 14:02Speaker 1: them to go. Pete Golding, who was a bit of
- 14:06Speaker 1: a laughingstock as the defensive coordinator at Alabama. Um, he's
- 14:11Speaker 1: the head coach now.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Not the interim, the permanent head coach.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Yeah, but he got that. They are not doing the search. Right. Okay.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Pete Golding is the head coach. And I had known
- 14:21Speaker 1: him by name. I saw a picture of him, but
- 14:24Speaker 1: I'm like, there's no way that man is a head coach. Now, granted,
- 14:27Speaker 1: that picture was not the greatest.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Right. Not with, not with that haircut and not with, yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Not with that beard.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah, but- Does not present discipline. Let's put it
- 14:38Speaker 2: that way.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but he had all the leverage in the world, right?
- 14:42Speaker 1: Make me the head coach. I can keep this whole
- 14:45Speaker 1: thing together, but you got to do this right now.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And so somebody that I ain't heard nobody talk about,
- 14:51Speaker 1: we want to hire Pete Golding. Now he's an Ole
- 14:53Speaker 1: Miss alum. That sort of thing also helps in a
- 14:55Speaker 1: time like this where you feel that you've been betrayed
- 14:57Speaker 1: by an interloper, but he's there. All those offensive assistants,
- 15:02Speaker 1: they could name their price. just because they need those
- 15:06Speaker 1: people on the staff right now. And I imagine it
- 15:10Speaker 1: is not difficult at all to find the money to
- 15:12Speaker 1: do whatever it takes because Lane Kiffin walked to that
- 15:15Speaker 1: plane at the airport in Oxford and he was surrounded
- 15:19Speaker 1: by middle fingers, Caucasian middle fingers at every turn. Let
- 15:25Speaker 1: me tell you something, brother. If it was me, and
- 15:28Speaker 1: when I say me, I mean specifically me and all
- 15:30Speaker 1: the characteristics of me, and I was in Mississippi, and
- 15:33Speaker 1: I saw angry white men like that, I would have
- 15:36Speaker 1: been terrified. I would have run on the plane. It
- 15:40Speaker 1: was relieving to see that this happens to guys like
- 15:43Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin also. That's how mad they looked at him.
- 15:46Speaker 1: They were furious with him, and it's all because he
- 15:51Speaker 1: tried to burn the place down on the way out,
- 15:54Speaker 1: and that was so wildly unnecessary. Right. Everybody understands you
- 16:00Speaker 1: can't do this job anymore. I don't. I've seen people
- 16:03Speaker 1: make the argument or have this discussion about what was
- 16:05Speaker 1: going on with ESPN and the belief that like CAA
- 16:08Speaker 1: set out talking points basically to all of their clients
- 16:11Speaker 1: about why Lane Kiffin should have been allowed to coach
- 16:14Speaker 1: in the national championship. I mean, coaching the keep coaching
- 16:16Speaker 1: Ole Miss through the playoff. I want to make a
- 16:19Speaker 1: couple of points here. And I'm not saying that this
- 16:21Speaker 1: doesn't happen. Right. That I mean, Maybe CAA sends out paperwork,
- 16:28Speaker 1: you know, sends out talking points every morning, right? I've
- 16:31Speaker 1: been sending CAA percentages of my money now for over
- 16:36Speaker 1: a decade, I want to say. I'm just saying I
- 16:39Speaker 1: never got any of those talking points. Now, maybe, maybe,
- 16:42Speaker 1: maybe that says more about me and my standing within
- 16:45Speaker 1: this agency than it says about anything else. But I'm
- 16:48Speaker 1: just here to let you know, like I have had
- 16:52Speaker 1: I've been repped by another agency that would never give
- 16:55Speaker 1: me talking points, but would be like, hey, if you want,
- 16:57Speaker 1: we got some information on something if you want. Right.
- 17:00Speaker 1: These these kinds of things do happen. I'm not saying
- 17:03Speaker 1: that they don't. I'm just saying it. Maybe I need
- 17:07Speaker 1: to talk to CAA and find out where I really stand,
- 17:10Speaker 1: you know, in the hierarchy. I've been right here, baby.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Maybe they just know I'm too geisty for that shit.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I don't have any idea. I don't know. I don't know.
- 17:19Speaker 1: But I do know it was crazy that so many
- 17:22Speaker 1: reasonable people were actually trying to make the argument that
- 17:25Speaker 1: he should be able to work for two teams in
- 17:27Speaker 1: the same conference in states that border each other. That
- 17:30Speaker 1: was absurd.
- 17:31Speaker 2: What do you make of the argument Nick Saban was pushing,
- 17:35Speaker 2: essentially that the schedule is to blame for this situation
- 17:39Speaker 2: and not Lane Kiffin? Like essentially because of the transfer
- 17:43Speaker 2: portal and the way that the playoff is scheduled, that
- 17:47Speaker 2: situations like this are going to happen due to the
- 17:49Speaker 2: calendar more so than anything else.
- 17:51Speaker 1: No, he's right. But here's where I push back on
- 17:55Speaker 1: the idea that the schedule is at fault, right?
- 17:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:00Speaker 1: The schedule puts Lane Kiffin in a bind in this.
- 18:04Speaker 1: The schedule makes Lane Kiffin have to choose. But the
- 18:08Speaker 1: bottom line was he had to choose. And rather than choose,
- 18:13Speaker 1: he kicked the can as far down as he possibly could.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And then he made it. He handled a bad situation terribly.
- 18:23Speaker 1: It's unfortunate for you, Lane. And this is the part
- 18:26Speaker 1: that makes it unfortunate for everybody. And this is the truth.
- 18:29Speaker 1: What makes it tricky is that to be good enough
- 18:33Speaker 1: to get a job like LSU, chances are you're coaching
- 18:36Speaker 1: a team that's going to be going to the playoff.
- 18:40Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 18:41Speaker 2: Like, that's... Or at least in the mix in the
- 18:43Speaker 2: final week.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Exactly. Exactly, right? Like, that's how that's going to go.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And that makes that grown man have to make a decision.
- 18:51Speaker 1: But the truth is, he knew he wanted to go
- 18:52Speaker 1: to LSU. And my question for him is this. If
- 18:55Speaker 1: the LSU job is so good, right... then why do
- 18:59Speaker 1: you care that much about this team? And don't tell
- 19:00Speaker 1: me because you care about the kids. You're just never
- 19:03Speaker 1: going to get me to believe. I don't think the
- 19:05Speaker 1: kids feel that cared about either in the course of this.
- 19:08Speaker 1: You had a chance to coach in the playoff and
- 19:10Speaker 1: you wanted to do promotion for LSU by coaching in
- 19:13Speaker 1: the playoff. That is what I believe. A big part
- 19:16Speaker 1: of why I believe that is I assume the worst
- 19:18Speaker 1: about this man. No matter what the circumstances are, I
- 19:21Speaker 1: assume the worst, except when somebody called him a hoe
- 19:23Speaker 1: and he go check him for it, right? Yeah. Okay, lady,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know, relatable content. But that, I, he made it
- 19:36Speaker 1: like this. He's not the first person to wind up
- 19:39Speaker 1: in a similar situation. And very often those people have
- 19:42Speaker 1: to go on. Or you had this option. You could
- 19:44Speaker 1: have stayed at Ole Miss. And what I'm curious about,
- 19:47Speaker 1: because Marty Smith, bless his heart, who got sacked. down
- 19:50Speaker 1: there to Oxford, Mississippi, trying to get some time with
- 19:53Speaker 1: Lane and just look miserable on TV.
- 19:55Speaker 2: He looked like he was on the Ed Werder beat
- 19:58Speaker 2: of Green Bay.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yes.
- 20:00Speaker 2: The Brett Favre retirement or not.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Yes. Like, I have to keep doing this. And I
- 20:04Speaker 1: like Marty. Marty did not want to keep. Finally, Marty
- 20:07Speaker 1: got him at the airport. And Marty asked him all
- 20:08Speaker 1: the right questions, too. Like, if you look at it,
- 20:10Speaker 1: it's about a six-minute interview on the tarmac. And I
- 20:12Speaker 1: thought Marty asked all the important questions that he asked
- 20:14Speaker 1: them directly. And one question he asked was, what is
- 20:17Speaker 1: it about the LSU job that makes it one that
- 20:20Speaker 1: you would leave Ole Miss for? And he said he
- 20:23Speaker 1: didn't want to get into that. And no, I want
- 20:25Speaker 1: you to answer that for me. Because what I don't understand,
- 20:29Speaker 1: first of all, and Ryan, we talked about this already.
- 20:32Speaker 1: You guys are chaos. Yes. Like, was it a month
- 20:37Speaker 1: ago we were just talking about what a ridiculous place
- 20:39Speaker 1: LSU had become with the governor having these press conferences
- 20:42Speaker 1: and everything else? Well, we're not going to offer no
- 20:44Speaker 1: contract like them other contracts, and it sure sounds like
- 20:47Speaker 1: you did. Right. Right. An athletic director that you seem
- 20:50Speaker 1: to name because you needed to hurry up and name
- 20:52Speaker 1: an athletic director. Like, this all seems... If Ole Miss
- 21:01Speaker 1: was going to pay him roughly the same amount of money, right?
- 21:05Speaker 1: And you clearly have put together a roster that's better
- 21:08Speaker 1: than LSU's is this year, right? So why are you
- 21:14Speaker 1: going through all of this to leave? Do you believe
- 21:17Speaker 1: that what you've done at Ole Miss is fool's gold?
- 21:20Speaker 1: That's the question I want to know. Like deep down inside,
- 21:23Speaker 1: does Lane Kiffin really believe that Ole Miss, that these
- 21:27Speaker 1: teams that he's built there, what he talks about is
- 21:28Speaker 1: the greatest run in school history or anything else. Do
- 21:30Speaker 1: you actually believe these teams are good? And I don't
- 21:33Speaker 1: think he actually believes that. And by the way, show
- 21:36Speaker 1: me the big wins. If I'm not mistaken, I went
- 21:39Speaker 1: through and looked at this in this run. This year's
- 21:42Speaker 1: game against Oklahoma, and Oklahoma's okay. And if I'm, and
- 21:45Speaker 1: I don't, I think- I.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Mean, I just watched Oklahoma. That, that- Let's call them
- 21:50Speaker 2: limited offensively.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean, that's since Mateer has gotten back
- 21:54Speaker 1: from being hurt. I think that's what it is. But
- 21:56Speaker 1: and I can't remember if Mateer even played in that game,
- 21:59Speaker 1: but like they won it on the road. But you
- 22:00Speaker 1: go look through the lane, Kiffin run. The big wins
- 22:03Speaker 1: aren't really there. They get a lot of wins and
- 22:06Speaker 1: they win the games that they're supposed to. But because
- 22:08Speaker 1: of the nature of what these schedules are, he's not
- 22:10Speaker 1: like he's out here getting these big, gigantic, titanic wins.
- 22:13Speaker 1: over people like not even a win that's in line
- 22:16Speaker 1: with what Vanderbilt did on Saturday to Tennessee where they
- 22:18Speaker 1: ran on them for over 300 yards and the reason
- 22:21Speaker 1: that I bring up this idea that Vanderbilt the idea
- 22:23Speaker 1: that we are in a age and time where Vanderbilt
- 22:26Speaker 1: can run for 300 yards on Tennessee at Neyland takes
- 22:30Speaker 1: me back to the question why exactly are you doing
- 22:34Speaker 1: all of this if Ole Miss was going to give
- 22:36Speaker 1: you the money is LSU which I had believed at
- 22:38Speaker 1: points to be the best job in the country Right now,
- 22:41Speaker 1: is it a better job than the job you have
- 22:43Speaker 1: right now? Is everything that you're going through and the
- 22:46Speaker 1: damage that you're doing to your professional reputation and going
- 22:49Speaker 1: into this job that is going to be chaos, was
- 22:52Speaker 1: this all worth it for you to make a fool
- 22:54Speaker 1: of yourself to go to a place that as it
- 22:56Speaker 1: stands right now, does not have a football team as
- 22:59Speaker 1: good as the football team that you are currently coaching?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Why are you doing that? I just want to know
- 23:08Speaker 1: the answer for why it is that you're doing this.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Florida seemed like a much better cultural fit for Lane.
- 23:15Speaker 1: He is exactly what it is that they are looking for.
- 23:18Speaker 1: He is the spiritual successor to Steve Spurrier. He's the
- 23:21Speaker 1: guy that they want, right? Here's the other thing that
- 23:24Speaker 1: could have happened for you. Ryan, I want you to
- 23:25Speaker 1: tell me what you think about this because I haven't
- 23:27Speaker 1: workshopped this with you, okay? The tricky thing about LSU
- 23:33Speaker 1: is they have proof of concept that you can win
- 23:35Speaker 1: a national championship there with a cartoon character because they've
- 23:39Speaker 1: done it twice.
- 23:41Speaker 2: All right. Two cartoon characters.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Actually, they've actually done it with three. It's
- 23:45Speaker 1: just that Saban is a different cartoon.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Especially Saban then because people forget that Saban used to
- 23:53Speaker 2: be more intense.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Yes, he was. Yes, he was.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Before he started graying, he looked more like Will Muschamp
- 23:59Speaker 2: out there than friendly Grandpa Saban.
- 24:02Speaker 1: And by the way, the Saban years are up, down, up, down.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It's down, up, down, up, down. There are only two really,
- 24:09Speaker 1: really good seasons.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Yes, and they had an incredible run of success after
- 24:13Speaker 2: he left with his reverse.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yes. That 05-07 LSU run is probably the best run
- 24:18Speaker 2: in the school's history.
- 24:19Speaker 3: It is.
- 24:19Speaker 1: But with his recruits in 04, with Nick Saban there,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I want to say they went 9-4 or something like that.
- 24:26Speaker 1: But either way, they've seen a lot of people win
- 24:29Speaker 1: a championship there. They understand that anybody, they feel like
- 24:32Speaker 1: it's reasonable to feel like anybody can win a national
- 24:35Speaker 1: championship here. And that's why it's kind of weird that
- 24:38Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin feels like, yeah, Les Miles needs to win
- 24:41Speaker 1: a national championship there. Ed Ogeron needs to win a
- 24:42Speaker 1: national championship there. If Lane Kiffin is what you people
- 24:45Speaker 1: tell me that he is, then you should be able
- 24:47Speaker 1: to do this at Ole Miss, right? Because think about
- 24:51Speaker 1: it this way. Ohio State believes that it's not about
- 24:56Speaker 1: the coach there. It's just about the machine that they have, okay?
- 25:00Speaker 1: Small problem. You know what every coach that Ohio State
- 25:03Speaker 1: has won a national championship with has in common? They're
- 25:07Speaker 1: all Hall of Fame caliber coaches. They've all, how about this?
- 25:11Speaker 1: They've all, except for Woody Hayes, Paul Brown won a
- 25:15Speaker 1: national championship at Ohio State and then won NFL championship. Okay.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Woody Hayes won, I want to say, five national championships
- 25:22Speaker 1: or something like that there. Jim Trestle has won multiple
- 25:28Speaker 1: 1AA championships and then won the national championship at Ohio State.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Urban Meyer won two national championships at Florida in an
- 25:36Speaker 1: undefeated season at Utah and then won his national championship
- 25:39Speaker 1: at Ohio State. Ryan Day is the only one that's
- 25:41Speaker 1: really kind of in line with the it's the machine
- 25:43Speaker 1: that does it. John Cooper did not win a national
- 25:46Speaker 1: championship there. John Cooper won 10 games at Arizona State.
- 25:51Speaker 1: And I want to say at Tulsa, Earl Bruce did
- 25:55Speaker 1: not win a national championship there. So clearly not everybody
- 26:00Speaker 1: can win a national championship at Ohio State. And Ogeron
- 26:05Speaker 1: won a national championship at LSU. I'm just telling you,
- 26:09Speaker 1: they're not going to love you like that there. And
- 26:12Speaker 1: you're also not really their kind of guy, and your
- 26:15Speaker 1: brand of smarm is not going to work with those people.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Ole Miss, you are right. You have the best run
- 26:21Speaker 1: of success that Ole Miss has ever had. Even if
- 26:24Speaker 1: I can't find the big wins there, you've won major
- 26:27Speaker 1: bowl games at Ole Miss. You've consistently won double-digit games
- 26:31Speaker 1: at Ole Miss. You've shown the ability to build a
- 26:35Speaker 1: team better than LSU. What this tells me is that
- 26:38Speaker 1: every day of your life at Ole Miss, you've been
- 26:39Speaker 1: scared of LSU.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Right.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Like you just you don't believe. Is it that you
- 26:45Speaker 1: don't believe anybody can do it at Ole Miss or
- 26:47Speaker 1: you just don't believe that you can do it at
- 26:50Speaker 1: Ole Miss? Because you've kind of given proof of concept
- 26:53Speaker 1: that you could come pretty close to doing it there.
- 26:56Speaker 1: you would probably be better off staying there instead of
- 27:00Speaker 1: coming into a place where they're not really going to
- 27:03Speaker 1: love you like that. And I have to go back
- 27:06Speaker 1: to the fact that it's a crazy house right now. Right,
- 27:11Speaker 1: we were up here talking about who would ever want
- 27:13Speaker 1: to take this job with all the chaos that LSU provided.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And Lane Kiffin was like, I love a crazy girl.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Nothing gets me off like that.
- 27:26Speaker 2: And it really is amazing. But the thing that's interesting
- 27:30Speaker 2: about LSU is that fan base believes they have left
- 27:35Speaker 2: multiple national championships on the table because of their lack
- 27:39Speaker 2: of modern college football offense. And the one year they
- 27:44Speaker 2: had a decent offensive mind in that building, they put
- 27:48Speaker 2: the greatest offensive season in the history of college football.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Yes. So.
- 27:53Speaker 2: So that's the model they're going to look for for
- 27:57Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin, and I'll be interested to see how that works.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Keep in mind, Nate, he has to go play at
- 28:03Speaker 2: Oxford next year. LSU's Ole Miss is their permanent opponent.
- 28:07Speaker 1: He has to go play at Tennessee, too.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Yes. And you start off the year playing Clemson in
- 28:14Speaker 2: a revenge year.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Just ask it a question. do they still make things
- 28:21Speaker 1: that use D-cell batteries? And I'm asking that question because
- 28:26Speaker 1: when somebody pulls up on game day in Oxford and
- 28:30Speaker 1: is like, yo, let me get some of them D-cell batteries.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Stop and ask yourself, why would these people need D-cell batteries?
- 28:39Speaker 1: I don't know the last time.
- 28:40Speaker 2: I played D-cell batteries. They might have to play that
- 28:44Speaker 2: game in an empty stadium like it's a soccer match
- 28:46Speaker 2: in Italy when they get too racist.
- 28:48Speaker 1: But see, this is the thing though, man. I love
- 28:50Speaker 1: a good villain. We have, and he loves being a villain,
- 28:54Speaker 1: but he, look, I ain't going to say nothing about
- 28:57Speaker 1: all the stuff he's saying about his daddy. I don't
- 28:59Speaker 1: know nothing about them and they get down or anything else,
- 29:02Speaker 1: but I do know this. I find the, I've been
- 29:05Speaker 1: praying about this and I let God tell me to
- 29:08Speaker 1: go take this job. I find that to be unconvincing.
- 29:12Speaker 1: And what that sounds like to me, It's somebody who
- 29:15Speaker 1: started coaching in the SEC who is not native to
- 29:18Speaker 1: the space who is like, you know what? You just
- 29:21Speaker 1: need to get down here and talk about God a lot. Yeah,
- 29:24Speaker 1: that's what they love. That's what it is. You think, hey, Ryan,
- 29:29Speaker 1: I don't know nothing about your background. I don't know
- 29:32Speaker 1: your biblical knowledge. But is there a story in the
- 29:37Speaker 1: Bible that's out anything like Lane Kiffin for the lay?
- 29:40Speaker 2: Two weeks i i don't i don't believe the bible
- 29:43Speaker 2: says uh take your 90 million dollars and run.
- 29:46Speaker 5: Take your 90 million dollars and run or like you
- 29:49Speaker 5: know extort thee all the way out the door i
- 29:53Speaker 5: don't i don't know where these things are i don't
- 29:56Speaker 5: but i mean He's now the story of college football.
- 29:59Speaker 2: He's the main character.
- 30:02Speaker 1: But what he is is, and I'll give him, I
- 30:05Speaker 1: don't know if credit is the right word, but there
- 30:08Speaker 1: aren't that many interesting coaches left, right? And he's won.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I want to say this on the way out because
- 30:15Speaker 1: I've just said this thing, maybe he'll stay at Ole Miss.
- 30:17Speaker 1: And look, you know, I talked about this with Joel. Like,
- 30:21Speaker 1: we got to be honest about maybe the problem with
- 30:22Speaker 1: his job. is you know that that legacy of confederate
- 30:27Speaker 1: doesn't help right right like like i would love for
- 30:30Speaker 1: somebody to come out of santa i mean other coaches
- 30:33Speaker 1: basically said it out loud tommy tubberville left because of
- 30:36Speaker 1: it david cutcliffe certainly is intimated at their points of
- 30:39Speaker 1: the difficulty it comes with maybe this is it but
- 30:41Speaker 1: look around the rest of that conference clark lee at
- 30:43Speaker 1: vanderbilt was like no i'll take the money and i'm
- 30:45Speaker 1: gonna stay here eli drink of it's at uh mizzou
- 30:48Speaker 1: It was like, you know what? You guys got to check.
- 30:50Speaker 1: All right, I'm going to go ahead and stay here.
- 30:52Speaker 1: The game plan seems to be for these guys to
- 30:54Speaker 1: get this money and stick around where they are. The
- 30:56Speaker 1: question is going to come down to these schools recognize
- 30:58Speaker 1: that these crazy buyouts, if they're still doing them, what
- 31:01Speaker 1: it means is we're in this together, man.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Right?
- 31:05Speaker 1: Like, you're going to have to make the decision.
- 31:07Speaker 2: And the same people who will pay $ 50 million to
- 31:09Speaker 2: run you off will pay $ 50 more million to keep
- 31:12Speaker 2: you if they think you're the guy.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Yes. But I think everybody needs to understand, though, that
- 31:16Speaker 1: this is going to be more like the pros. And
- 31:17Speaker 1: what that means is you're going to have some more
- 31:19Speaker 1: ups and downs in the ways that these go. And
- 31:22Speaker 1: every now and then you're going to have a not
- 31:23Speaker 1: great season. And maybe it might be two of those
- 31:25Speaker 1: not great seasons for whatever reason. But the buyouts are
- 31:28Speaker 1: supposed to make you ride through it. It's not supposed
- 31:30Speaker 1: to make you say, damn, we got to go past
- 31:31Speaker 1: the head again. Like, it's supposed to change the way
- 31:33Speaker 1: that you make these decisions. It hasn't changed the way
- 31:36Speaker 1: the decisions are made. But the SEC, it seems to
- 31:39Speaker 1: be at the very least that a lot of these
- 31:41Speaker 1: people have decided we're going to go for stability. I'll
- 31:47Speaker 1: just throw it out here, by the way. Shout out
- 31:48Speaker 1: to you, Florida. They hired John Summerall, who's the coach
- 31:52Speaker 1: at Tulane, who might be a better coach than Lane Kiffin.
- 31:56Speaker 1: And Lane Kiffin with his no conference championships, no division championships,
- 32:00Speaker 1: literally an empty trophy case. You know who else might
- 32:03Speaker 1: be a better coach than Lane Kiffin? The guy LSU
- 32:07Speaker 1: just fired. All right, so Thanksgiving and Black Friday. My
- 32:22Speaker 1: Thanksgiving football viewing was not.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Not great. Not great. I haven't talked to my buddy Nick,
- 32:31Speaker 1: but I imagine his Thanksgiving football viewing was also... Not great.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I haven't talked to any of my Ravens fans, but
- 32:39Speaker 1: I imagine their Thanksgiving football viewing was terrible. Have you
- 32:44Speaker 1: talked to any of.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Your friends who root for the Eagles?
- 32:48Speaker 1: Oh, goodness gracious. I have not because I'm afraid. I
- 32:52Speaker 1: don't think they'll have any sense of humor about what
- 32:54Speaker 1: happened with them. And I just imagine this is going
- 32:57Speaker 1: to be the playoffs with basically me and Nick just
- 33:00Speaker 1: going to be watching the playoffs together, hating. Just just
- 33:04Speaker 1: just just just hating on everything that's on the screen.
- 33:07Speaker 1: It don't look like the Lions are going to the playoffs, though.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I think they still have a chance. It don't look
- 33:11Speaker 1: like the Chiefs are going to the playoffs, though. I
- 33:12Speaker 1: say they still have a chance. The Ravens. I mean, Pittsburgh,
- 33:16Speaker 1: I think, is still going to be a top that
- 33:18Speaker 1: division even after that loss to Buffalo. But either way,
- 33:21Speaker 1: they're right there with each other. But they are cheeks.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I don't know why the Ravens cheat. Lamar Jackson looks
- 33:26Speaker 1: like cheeks. They are cheeks. And then the Eagles continuing
- 33:29Speaker 1: the strangest four-year run of highly successful football that anybody
- 33:36Speaker 1: had less fun being pretty good than them.
- 33:42Speaker 2: It's so wild because we've been doing this for, it
- 33:46Speaker 2: feels like eight weeks now. Yes. And it does not
- 33:50Speaker 2: get better. And they never lean into anything that works.
- 33:54Speaker 2: It's like watching a television show where you feel like
- 33:58Speaker 2: they didn't– like different writers worked on different episodes and
- 34:01Speaker 2: nothing connects.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 34:03Speaker 2: It's like did you practice? They look like they don't practice.
- 34:06Speaker 1: But hold on. There's another level of this in terms
- 34:08Speaker 1: of our world, right? Does any team– have more former
- 34:13Speaker 1: players who get paid to talk about their team than
- 34:17Speaker 1: the Eagles?
- 34:18Speaker 2: Maybe the Cowboys.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I feel like... I feel... No, no, no. See, the
- 34:21Speaker 1: Cowboys have all those people who get paid to talk
- 34:23Speaker 1: about the NFL.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Got it.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Right? Like Troy Amitotaro. I mean, if you go on
- 34:28Speaker 1: Twitter right now, I can get you a clip of
- 34:30Speaker 1: Hugh Douglas. I can get you a clip of Ike Reese.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I can get you a clip of Seth Joyner. I
- 34:35Speaker 1: can get you a clip of Nick Foles. It's just... They...
- 34:39Speaker 1: And by the way, they're all really straightforward and pretty good,
- 34:43Speaker 1: but no, no. Former Eagles are not pulling no punches
- 34:49Speaker 1: because they know the people don't want that. They know
- 34:53Speaker 1: what they know. And it also implies a begrudging respect
- 34:58Speaker 1: for the ways that the people get down. But everywhere
- 35:00Speaker 1: I go, I've just never seen a team where it
- 35:02Speaker 1: feels like I can get more actually credible. And like
- 35:05Speaker 1: Nick Foles stuff on the Eagles is always really interesting
- 35:08Speaker 1: when I wind up coming across some sort of clip
- 35:11Speaker 1: of what he's talking about. But they are like they
- 35:14Speaker 1: were just getting booed at the crib on a holiday weekend.
- 35:21Speaker 1: just mercilessly, and everybody showed up ready to do it.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I think that's the thing that sticks out about it
- 35:28Speaker 1: to me. Everybody showed up like, hey, man, don't get
- 35:32Speaker 1: this shit going, right? Like, you know, it's always bad news. Like,
- 35:35Speaker 1: that's the point where y'all got to break up, right?
- 35:37Speaker 1: Where you're like, just wait, just, ooh, and then it happens,
- 35:41Speaker 1: and then you're ready, and then you go. That's where
- 35:44Speaker 1: they are. That's where they stand. But they're going to
- 35:46Speaker 1: make the playoffs. That's the best part. These other teams
- 35:49Speaker 1: were talking about, hey, I don't know if they're going
- 35:51Speaker 1: to make the playoffs. That could go either way. The Eagles,
- 35:54Speaker 1: you know what the Eagles feel like? The Eagles feel
- 35:55Speaker 1: like one of those teams that needs to just skip
- 35:57Speaker 1: the NIT.
- 36:00Speaker 2: They need to self-impose a bowl ban.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Like, look, man, we've had enough, right? Like
- 36:05Speaker 1: back in the day when they would try to send
- 36:07Speaker 1: Notre Dame to something like the Independence Bowl. They're like, man,
- 36:10Speaker 1: we got Notre fucking Dame. We ain't going to Shreveport.
- 36:13Speaker 2: You know, we might be in South Bend, but we
- 36:16Speaker 2: have more class than going to Shreveport, Louisiana.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. We're not doing that. We're not doing that.
- 36:20Speaker 1: But the other thing that happened to them. And you
- 36:22Speaker 1: and I have talked about this. There is nothing that
- 36:24Speaker 1: a football team that could do that is worse for
- 36:26Speaker 1: the fans to watch than let somebody run for 280
- 36:29Speaker 1: yards on you.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Because Caleb Williams did not play well.
- 36:34Speaker 3: No.
- 36:35Speaker 1: They just ate them up. I've never heard of, what
- 36:40Speaker 1: was that boy's name?
- 36:41Speaker 4: Kyle?
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah, nice try. No, thank you.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Never heard of him. Never heard of him. Oh, hold
- 36:47Speaker 1: on though. He went to Rutgers. Let me find out
- 36:49Speaker 1: what hardscrabble town he's from. Oh, did you see that
- 36:53Speaker 1: clip of that dude for the Cowboys? The gutter the
- 36:56Speaker 1: other day?
- 36:57Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 2: The Rudy out there.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 1: He wasn't rude. He was like, no, he's can't go
- 37:02Speaker 1: back all star.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Camden, New Jersey.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Camden, New Jersey.
- 37:05Speaker 2: I looked it up.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I was like, I was Camden, Patterson, East Orange, any
- 37:11Speaker 1: of us advice. This guy is from Roseland, which seems
- 37:15Speaker 1: to be a little bit nicer than what I'm trying
- 37:17Speaker 1: to say with what I'm talking about here. I am.
- 37:21Speaker 1: I have no idea what this NFL season is going
- 37:23Speaker 1: to be. And I can't decide if I think that's
- 37:24Speaker 1: a good thing or not.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Right. Like we were talking about this before the show,
- 37:28Speaker 2: like every week feels more about who lost and who won.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Yes.
- 37:33Speaker 2: And you can say that about the chiefs. You can
- 37:36Speaker 2: say that about the Eagles to the lions. You can
- 37:40Speaker 2: certainly say that about the Steelers who had to throw
- 37:42Speaker 2: out Mason Rudolph today.
- 37:43Speaker 4: They did.
- 37:44Speaker 2: They did.
- 37:45Speaker 1: But hold on. I just watched the Rams lost to
- 37:47Speaker 1: the Panthers and Matthew Stafford lost There's going to be
- 37:51Speaker 1: regression to the mean on this interception thing. Generally speaking, right?
- 37:55Speaker 1: That's typically how it goes. Remember when Nick Foles had
- 37:58Speaker 1: that 27-2 year? Right.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Was that the first Chip Kelly?
- 38:02Speaker 1: That was the first Chip Kelly year. But yeah, those
- 38:06Speaker 1: things can dial back is what I'm saying. And that's
- 38:08Speaker 1: probably going to happen there. But the Panthers might go
- 38:11Speaker 1: to the playoffs. And the Bears are now the number
- 38:15Speaker 1: one seed, if I'm not mistaken.
- 38:16Speaker 2: They are.
- 38:17Speaker 1: And the NFC. Because the Rams... Lost to the Panthers.
- 38:22Speaker 1: I don't... We know we can't believe in the Seahawks, man.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Y'all want the best for him, but we can't believe
- 38:33Speaker 1: in that. What am I supposed to believe in in
- 38:34Speaker 1: the AFC?
- 38:35Speaker 2: Right?
- 38:36Speaker 1: Do you see any... There is not... The Colts, man.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Daniel Jones out there on a broken... I saw it
- 38:42Speaker 1: was an injured fibula, and I could be wrong, but
- 38:44Speaker 1: I feel like the only injury that you could do
- 38:47Speaker 1: to that is a break, right?
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean... We saw the Chargers out there.
- 38:51Speaker 2: They got to play the Raiders, but then Justin Herbert
- 38:53Speaker 2: goes and breaks his hand today.
- 38:55Speaker 4: He does.
- 38:56Speaker 1: And what that affects, and if you were watching that
- 38:58Speaker 1: game with Aaron Rodgers on Sunday, it really messes up
- 39:02Speaker 1: the running game. Because, yeah, you throw with the right,
- 39:05Speaker 1: but you got to hand people the ball. You can't
- 39:07Speaker 1: really be going under center like that.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to stick that hand under that big
- 39:11Speaker 2: boy's butt. Like, it's just tough.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a lot going on. But, yeah, this was
- 39:16Speaker 1: a week about losers. And at least one thing we
- 39:19Speaker 1: got that's great for business, right? The Cowboys, highly relevant.
- 39:24Speaker 1: and i have to say and fun to watch yeah
- 39:27Speaker 1: a bryan schottenheimer mediocre offensive coordinator appears to be a
- 39:31Speaker 1: good head coach.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Well i mean here's the thing he he coaches very
- 39:36Speaker 2: clearly like someone who grew up playing madden because he's
- 39:40Speaker 2: like hey uh you know what works uh george pickens
- 39:43Speaker 2: catching slants i'm gonna do that 12 times a.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Game here's the thing man what recollection do you have
- 39:49Speaker 1: of his father.
- 39:51Speaker 2: That is right. I understand that he's a historical choker,
- 39:55Speaker 2: but I never experienced it.
- 39:57Speaker 1: So it's a shame that Marty is defined by the
- 39:59Speaker 1: choking because here's the thing about Marty Schottenheimer. He has
- 40:02Speaker 1: two losing seasons ever.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Yeah, great coach.
- 40:04Speaker 1: He was an excellent, excellent coach, but he was a
- 40:08Speaker 1: ground-and-pound guy if a guy ever was about to ground-and-pound.
- 40:12Speaker 1: And as an offensive coordinator, his son a little bit
- 40:14Speaker 1: too much about to ground-and-pound. As the head coach, he's
- 40:17Speaker 1: passing the ball to Will.
- 40:20Speaker 2: And if you look at some of those nerd stats,
- 40:22Speaker 2: like George Pickens might have been– might be the best
- 40:24Speaker 2: receiver in the NFL this year.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Yo, it's– I just can't wait to see what that
- 40:29Speaker 1: turns into next year. What's the contract decide?
- 40:33Speaker 3: Good luck.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:41Speaker 4: All right.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Two quick stories from the weekend. Shador Mania, watch. Shador Sanders, they–
- 40:47Speaker 2: and the Browns lost to the 49ers 26-8. He had–
- 40:50Speaker 2: 149 yards, 16 for 25, one touchdown. But what'd you
- 40:55Speaker 2: make of his performance today?
- 40:57Speaker 1: I watched most of that game. I feel like there
- 40:59Speaker 1: was nothing to discuss. Right. It was just like, if
- 41:04Speaker 1: this was somebody that didn't have the profile, there would
- 41:07Speaker 1: be literally nothing discussed. Like, I mean, he's going to
- 41:09Speaker 1: start for the rest of the year. I do believe.
- 41:12Speaker 1: So I think we're at a point where we don't
- 41:14Speaker 1: have to have a daily referendum on what he does,
- 41:17Speaker 1: but yeah, that was a, okay. I mean, I didn't
- 41:22Speaker 1: think he looked bad necessarily, but man, he holds the
- 41:24Speaker 1: ball for a long time, man. A long time.
- 41:29Speaker 4: And that is.
- 41:31Speaker 1: They're drafting a quarterback. They're saying all the right things
- 41:35Speaker 1: right now about, hey, evaluation, because why not, right? You
- 41:38Speaker 1: should say those things. It costs you nothing. They're drafting
- 41:41Speaker 1: a quarterback.
- 41:41Speaker 2: They're drafting a quarterback, and they're probably firing the coach.
- 41:44Speaker 4: Yes.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Like, I mean, like, they're... he looks, Stefanski looks miserable. Yeah.
- 41:52Speaker 1: And we keep seeing this, man. If you're going to
- 41:55Speaker 1: make the quarterback change like that, you might as well
- 41:57Speaker 1: change the coach. It's going to happen anyway.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Right. Like, yeah, there's no sense. And if there's one
- 42:02Speaker 2: thing that Jimmy Haslam is known for, it's great decisions
- 42:06Speaker 2: when it comes to coaches and quarterbacks. That guy. All right.
- 42:11Speaker 2: We just kind of glossed over this earlier, but, you know,
- 42:14Speaker 2: a lot of moves in the college football carousel this week.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Florida hired John Summerall. From Tulane, Auburn brought in a
- 42:20Speaker 2: new coach. Arkansas brought in a new coach. There's a
- 42:22Speaker 2: lot of rumors of what's going on in Penn State.
- 42:24Speaker 2: But what was the most surprising thing that happened today
- 42:27Speaker 2: on the coaching carousel?
- 42:28Speaker 1: Well, it sounded like there was a possibility that Auburn
- 42:31Speaker 1: was going to hire DJ Durkin. And if they had,
- 42:33Speaker 1: I was prepared to come on here and act a
- 42:36Speaker 1: royal fool. This was the guy that oversaw Jordan McNair's
- 42:39Speaker 1: death at Maryland. It is amazing to me that people
- 42:41Speaker 1: keep hiring. Guys that get into trouble for ill-treatment of players,
- 42:45Speaker 1: and they just keep getting jobs. It is the most
- 42:50Speaker 1: stunning and frustrating thing about this game.
- 42:52Speaker 2: And it's not even like they're sent off into the
- 42:55Speaker 2: wilderness the way Art Bryles has been.
- 42:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Like, I mean, DJ Irvin was at defensive quarter, what,
- 43:00Speaker 2: three or four years later? Yes.
- 43:02Speaker 1: And it was like it was Muschamp, I think, was
- 43:03Speaker 1: the guy that brought him back into the fold to
- 43:06Speaker 1: do that. And it's just it's crazy to me. that
- 43:08Speaker 1: he even has this job. But it was– Auburn, always
- 43:12Speaker 1: something crazy going on there with Auburn, boy. And the
- 43:14Speaker 1: interim fighting away– and he was coaching that game like
- 43:17Speaker 1: he thought he could get the job. Like, if Durkin
- 43:21Speaker 1: would have won that game against Alabama, buddy, it would
- 43:23Speaker 1: have been really, really, really tough for them to not
- 43:27Speaker 1: do it.
- 43:27Speaker 2: I mean, we were real close to getting DJ Durkin–
- 43:31Speaker 2: Auburn head football coach and Bobby Petrino, Arkansas head football coach.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Oh, wow. Arkansas.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Who did they hire?
- 43:37Speaker 2: They hired the guy from Memphis.
- 43:38Speaker 1: The Memphis. Cause I had heard, I thought Petrino was
- 43:41Speaker 1: going to get that job. Like it, it sounded like, um, uh,
- 43:45Speaker 1: one booster in particular. wanted Bobby to have that job,
- 43:48Speaker 1: and that was the direction that they were going to
- 43:50Speaker 1: go in, and I was hoping for it. I thought
- 43:54Speaker 1: that that would have been a great time. The thing
- 43:56Speaker 1: to watch for is we're also starting to get whispers
- 43:58Speaker 1: that sound like Lincoln Riley trying to find his way
- 44:01Speaker 1: out of USC, but I think he wants to try
- 44:04Speaker 1: to get out to get a job of similar caliber
- 44:06Speaker 1: of USC. Oh, no, no, no, no, nobody, nobody, nobody.
- 44:09Speaker 1: If you want to leave USC, you're going to have
- 44:11Speaker 1: to take a step down.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Or at least get Warren to go call on some
- 44:16Speaker 2: games for a few years. Yes, yes.
- 44:18Speaker 1: And if he leaves USC, Caleb DeBoer is going to
- 44:26Speaker 1: be left with a decision to make. You call him.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Anybody that's got an opening, you call the Alabama coach
- 44:35Speaker 1: every time because it just might be the day that
- 44:38Speaker 1: they don't feel like that.
- 44:39Speaker 2: I mean, there were all these whispers that, you know,
- 44:42Speaker 2: that he would that. that the guys up in Penn
- 44:44Speaker 2: State were calling about him too.
- 44:46Speaker 4: Uh-huh.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Hey, man.
- 44:47Speaker 2: You have to make that call.
- 44:49Speaker 1: You can catch him on the right day. You can
- 44:50Speaker 1: catch him at the right time. I'm telling you. I
- 44:53Speaker 1: can only imagine how many times he could sit and
- 44:55Speaker 1: quit in that job.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I can only imagine, like you said, we mentioned this
- 45:00Speaker 2: off the top of the show, losing that Iron Bowl.
- 45:04Speaker 1: He looked so relieved, man. There was a couple of
- 45:07Speaker 1: moments you could just see it and just be like, okay.
- 45:12Speaker 1: They got the SEC championship this week that they probably
- 45:15Speaker 1: aren't going to win.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Alright, Bo. Voicemail lines are open. We got a couple
- 45:25Speaker 2: of great ones after the holiday break. Let's take a listen.
- 45:28Speaker 4: Hey, Bo.
- 45:28Speaker 3: My name is Jonathan calling in wishing you, thanking you,
- 45:32Speaker 3: celebrating you for hitting 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. With that
- 45:37Speaker 3: being said, would you mind going back through some of
- 45:41Speaker 3: your greatest hits for some of the newer callers and listeners.
- 45:44Speaker 3: I'm specifically talking about Mike Tirico claiming that peninsula in
- 45:49Speaker 3: Europe and your beef with Laurence Crisper. Thanks for the show.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Enjoy everything that you do.
- 45:56Speaker 4: Peace.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Man, it's been a long time since I've had the
- 46:01Speaker 1: opportunity to introduce the Mike Tirico situation to somebody. I
- 46:05Speaker 1: think I'm going to do that with my parents when
- 46:07Speaker 1: I get home for Christmas this year. My mama's listening
- 46:10Speaker 1: to this. Don't let me forget to tell you the
- 46:13Speaker 1: Mike Tirico story, mama.
- 46:14Speaker 2: That's a Christmas gift to yourself, if I've ever heard one.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I told you about that time I had to give
- 46:21Speaker 1: Mike Tirico a sports Emmy.
- 46:23Speaker 2: No, you did not.
- 46:25Speaker 1: So after the first season of Game Theory, HBO had
- 46:27Speaker 1: worked it out, and I was a presenter at the
- 46:31Speaker 1: sports Emmys. and I forget what the sports TV was for,
- 46:35Speaker 1: and the winner was Mike Tirico, and I shook his
- 46:38Speaker 1: hand and I gave him the trophy, and it definitely
- 46:40Speaker 1: gave me the vibe that while he may not be
- 46:43Speaker 1: a regular listener of this show, I believe that he
- 46:46Speaker 1: was made familiar with some of the content, some of
- 46:51Speaker 1: the running gags, shall we say. I'm just kidding. For
- 46:59Speaker 1: those of you who don't know, Mike Tirico apparently did
- 47:03Speaker 1: not find out he was black until well into the
- 47:06Speaker 1: 21st century. He's a character in a Farrelly Brothers movie.
- 47:10Speaker 1: I don't understand. He Italian. I mean, that's not saying
- 47:17Speaker 1: he's not.
- 47:20Speaker 2: This is the part where I play the next voicemail.
- 47:23Speaker 4: Hey, Bomani, this is Tom going from way up north
- 47:25Speaker 4: in Canada. Recently, and I really like The Replacements, just
- 47:30Speaker 4: had another remaster come out of one of their great albums.
- 47:35Speaker 4: I say that to say, I'm wondering, is there a
- 47:39Speaker 4: record that you really like that you think was rescued
- 47:44Speaker 4: by a remaster, delayed The Replacements, Let It Be, and
- 47:49Speaker 4: Tim was? Anyway, Bomani... Shout out you. Shout out the
- 47:53Speaker 4: whole Morning Jones family. Shout out DJ Mike Hittman. Great
- 47:56Speaker 4: to hear him back on the show again. Shout out Shannon.
- 47:58Speaker 4: Shout out everyone else. I'm forgetting Corey, my Canadian brother.
- 48:02Speaker 4: Take care of all. Have a good one. Hey, man.
- 48:05Speaker 1: I appreciate it. And so, Rescued by a Remaster is interesting.
- 48:10Speaker 1: I don't know if Rescue is necessarily the right way
- 48:13Speaker 1: to put it, but the first digital mixes of the
- 48:16Speaker 1: Beatles records were not very good, and the remasters got
- 48:18Speaker 1: better over time. What often happens is, The records that
- 48:22Speaker 1: typically need remasters are because however it was done for
- 48:27Speaker 1: analog just did not translate over. There was a great
- 48:32Speaker 1: remaster of Slide to Family Stones. There's a Riot going
- 48:35Speaker 1: on that came out about 20-something years ago that helped that.
- 48:38Speaker 1: But if you just get a vinyl version of Riot,
- 48:42Speaker 1: you're good. It was a tough listen digitally, but it
- 48:45Speaker 1: was a great listen on vinyl. So that often happens.
- 48:48Speaker 1: These Prince remasters have been interesting because Prince... in many cases,
- 48:52Speaker 1: just didn't have time to worry about how it sounded.
- 48:54Speaker 1: He was like, but it's the heat. All it has
- 48:57Speaker 1: to be is the heat. So this Around the World
- 48:59Speaker 1: in a Day remaster is good. Parade is the one
- 49:04Speaker 1: that needs a remaster more than anything else. And on
- 49:07Speaker 1: a different day, we could talk about how... Eh, I
- 49:11Speaker 1: don't want to talk about Parade right now. But anyway, yeah.
- 49:15Speaker 1: A lot of the Preds catalog and remasters are helpful,
- 49:18Speaker 1: I will just say it like that.
- 49:19Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one. Hey, bro.
- 49:22Speaker 4: This is Zach from Dallas. I'm out here on the porch, man. Just, yeah,
- 49:26Speaker 4: I'm in.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Dallas to get the traffic.
- 49:28Speaker 4: But this is how I'm thinking, dog.
- 49:30Speaker 3: When was the first time you.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Took a walk with your cousin on Thanksgiving? Like, what
- 49:35Speaker 4: was your first walk like? I remember mine.
- 49:37Speaker 2: It was pretty dope.
- 49:39Speaker 4: I actually thought we was walking.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Yeah it just.
- 49:46Speaker 4: Kind of went from there it was pretty cool but
- 49:49Speaker 4: yeah tell me about that first time.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Bro I don't have no like recollection necessarily that much
- 49:56Speaker 1: it's not necessarily so much a walk for us as
- 50:01Speaker 1: sometimes it's just a go to the garage ain't nobody
- 50:06Speaker 1: really paying attention right or just a you know All right.
- 50:10Speaker 1: You know, like, also, yeah, yeah, yeah. And also, it's
