- 0:00Speaker 1: You guys have put a new track that's just here
- 0:02Speaker 1: My Heart's Dead.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Fun, it's a groovy little ditty and I do, I
- 0:08Speaker 1: do enjoy. I will say sit. Some girls have got
- 0:12Speaker 1: your signature sound, which is a little bit funky, a
- 0:15Speaker 1: little bit groovy.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I am yeah, No, it's good.
- 0:19Speaker 1: It's good. So to tell me about it, you guys
- 0:23Speaker 1: have teenage jones. You hit the ground pretty much running
- 0:25Speaker 1: when you guys hit the scene buck in what was
- 0:28Speaker 1: it now, twenty eighteen? Yeah, yeah, yeah, And you guys
- 0:34Speaker 1: took out the Earth.
- 0:36Speaker 3: High Winness yep, yeah, that was in twenty twenty, I
- 0:40Speaker 3: think twenty three. Pretty impressive, the first, the first COVID one.
- 0:44Speaker 3: So we were the guinea pigs for that.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It's always nice to be guinea pig, isn't it. Ye
- 0:51Speaker 1: can't complain. And yeah, so since then, you guys have
- 0:54Speaker 1: just taken off and become pretty impressive. I have to say,
- 0:58Speaker 1: you've got some pretty mean feats, mind you guys for
- 1:01Speaker 1: not being seasoned veterans in the field, pretty good ranks.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you.
- 1:11Speaker 1: That's what we can do as long as you're having fun.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that's not so much fun.
- 1:17Speaker 1: So yeah, so you have since then, you've kinds of
- 1:22Speaker 1: babies when you started.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Yeah, well I think when we started the band, I
- 1:27Speaker 5: was I think I was freshly sixteen aericon.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Wow, that's that's fresh, and Carli you were the same
- 1:36Speaker 1: age a little bit older.
- 1:37Speaker 6: I think I was closer turning eighteen.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, yeah, still young.
- 1:45Speaker 6: But Tie is the baby, that's all right.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Maybe good things come into small packages. Indeed, So as
- 1:58Speaker 1: you know, growing up the spotlight pretty much can come
- 2:00Speaker 1: with its challenges as but you know, it's especially in
- 2:03Speaker 1: the music industry and being put on put on shows,
- 2:08Speaker 1: so to speak, in the spotlight. So yeah, tell me
- 2:11Speaker 1: about that for you guys. Has it been? How's it?
- 2:14Speaker 1: How's that been? Essentially is in normal teenage life so
- 2:18Speaker 1: to speak?
- 2:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I feel like we're we've been pretty lucky.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Our like supporters or fan base, whatever you want to
- 2:26Speaker 3: call it, has always been just like super respectful. We've had,
- 2:29Speaker 3: you know, the one or two here and there that
- 2:32Speaker 3: cross some boundaries, but most people are just super lovely
- 2:36Speaker 3: and it almost just feels like we're playing to a
- 2:38Speaker 3: bunch of friends every time we play shows and stuff.
- 2:42Speaker 3: But yeah, it was interesting, just like you know, I mean,
- 2:46Speaker 3: Tylia could probably speak on this a bit more like
- 2:48Speaker 3: she was in school when we started the band and
- 2:51Speaker 3: we were playing.
- 2:51Speaker 6: Gigs on school nights and stuff. Yeah, it's pretty pretty hectic.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Yeah, we would play on like sometimes it was like
- 2:59Speaker 5: three shows, three shows a week while I was at
- 3:02Speaker 5: school and doing like a little like out of school
- 3:05Speaker 5: studying as well. But like lucky, our parents and stuff
- 3:10Speaker 5: was super supportive. They drive us through the shows because
- 3:13Speaker 5: obviously we weren't really old enough to have our peeves
- 3:15Speaker 5: or anything.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I wasn't.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Yeah, they take us everywhere, take us all the shows,
- 3:22Speaker 5: help load our gear, like, so we're really lucky with that.
- 3:26Speaker 1: That's pretty special in itself for having your parents' is
- 3:29Speaker 1: your own roadies, which pretty cool. And so are they
- 3:32Speaker 1: still quite involved out or.
- 3:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they're always like at our shows and stuff,
- 3:38Speaker 5: and my mom and my brother and self selling merch
- 3:41Speaker 5: at some of the Adelaide's shows.
- 3:42Speaker 2: They're always involved somehow.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Oh that's good. That's it's it's really is a big
- 3:47Speaker 1: fan BAMD kind of yeah situation. Yeah, and that must
- 3:50Speaker 1: be good when you guys are on the road as well,
- 3:52Speaker 1: obviously having you know, being young and having family there
- 3:54Speaker 1: and support. Knowing that you're all taking care of it
- 3:58Speaker 1: and protected in the way, sometimes it does get a
- 4:01Speaker 1: bit fall on and overwhelming. I would imagine pretty major things,
- 4:06Speaker 1: which is again absolute credit to yourselves if had Yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 1: e grace the stage with some pretty big names. Yea,
- 4:14Speaker 1: three Fighters, Summer forty one, Amy Shark, Yeah, tell me
- 4:19Speaker 1: about it. You've got any tea on Dave?
- 4:22Speaker 6: He was so lovely. Yeah.
- 4:24Speaker 3: The funniest thing about meeting him was he introduced himself
- 4:28Speaker 3: and we were like, we know, we don't have to
- 4:31Speaker 3: introduce him.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Oh that's so humble, isn't it. It's nice to hear
- 4:36Speaker 1: that he's he's the nice guy rock and roll as
- 4:38Speaker 1: his Yeah, the name that must have been exciting touring.
- 4:43Speaker 5: It was crazy. It was like so surreal. That whole
- 4:45Speaker 5: crew was nice, Like the whole band was so lovely.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and they've got an Aussie? Is it the sound girl,
- 4:53Speaker 1: the sound check manager stage production? I think it is
- 4:58Speaker 1: pretty sure she's an aus.
- 5:00Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure we met the drum tech and she
- 5:03Speaker 5: was Australian. I think she was from not Adelaide, but
- 5:07Speaker 5: like somewhere ruined.
- 5:08Speaker 4: She was so was Yeah, that's.
- 5:11Speaker 1: The same person. The drum sounds like drums. They all
- 5:15Speaker 1: change that. I think she's like been involved in the
- 5:19Speaker 1: Blue Swis Tuppy and Byron and I think she may
- 5:22Speaker 1: I get a feeling that she's from Melbourne or Adelaide
- 5:25Speaker 1: somewhere around there.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Originally I think so, yeah, she was super lovely.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so that's cool, and do a big tour
- 5:32Speaker 1: of the Stakes with those guys, or just a couple
- 5:35Speaker 1: of shows.
- 5:37Speaker 6: It was just a couple of shows in Australia were
- 5:39Speaker 6: just and Perth.
- 5:41Speaker 1: That's yeah, Oh wow, that would have been pretty pretty amazing.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Yeah, so surreal.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and the festival run as well. You guys
- 5:52Speaker 1: have done a fee of those two Laneway and yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 1: yeah Splendor back in the day when now it's.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Just we missed out on our Splendor opportunity because they
- 6:04Speaker 3: announced it. But that was the first year that they
- 6:07Speaker 3: canceled it because of low ticket sales.
- 6:09Speaker 1: So we were so close, but fast. I don't think
- 6:12Speaker 1: you really missed much.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Exactly off the poster enough we got this close.
- 6:24Speaker 1: You guys have got your tour coming up, which is
- 6:26Speaker 1: just about to kick off. Is it next month or days?
- 6:30Speaker 1: The way, really, isn't it.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Yeah? The Slowly Slowly one start? Is it next week?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeahs on Thursday next week. Yeah.
- 6:40Speaker 6: I actually think they already began the tour, but we
- 6:43Speaker 6: won't do it the first few shows.
- 6:45Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, yeah, obviously I'm exciting.
- 6:50Speaker 6: It's gonna be so much fun.
- 6:51Speaker 3: We love Slowly Slowly, Like we played shows with them
- 6:54Speaker 3: before and they're just the sweetest guys and they put
- 6:56Speaker 3: on such an like a fantastic show and.
- 7:00Speaker 1: That's what gets a crowd pumping, and yeah, get that
- 7:04Speaker 1: vibe and it's it's it's a state presence, isn't it.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And then you guys can tease them up and war
- 7:10Speaker 1: muth to.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean we were saying at the last year
- 7:14Speaker 3: we played with them, we were saying, just between ourselves
- 7:16Speaker 3: and our you know, photographer and stuff, we were like,
- 7:19Speaker 3: this just makes sense, like us playing with Slowly Slowly.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I feel like our genres are very similar and yeah,
- 7:26Speaker 3: I don't know, just the you know, emotional emo rock
- 7:29Speaker 3: sort of thing, like it makes sense for us to
- 7:31Speaker 3: play with them.
- 7:31Speaker 6: So we were so excited when they asked us on
- 7:33Speaker 6: the tour.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Oh that's that's awesome. So yeah, the excitement, it doesn't
- 7:38Speaker 1: die down when you get to be fan girls for
- 7:40Speaker 1: your own.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Definitely.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it keeps it real. That's great. And so you're
- 7:47Speaker 1: looking forward to that obviously, and you guys get to
- 7:49Speaker 1: and behind for Halloween. So yeah, yeah, that's pretty good.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Parlia's mum is gonna Halloween a fire the Adelaide Show.
- 7:59Speaker 4: It's gonna be she's a Halloween nut.
- 8:01Speaker 2: We both both love Halloween.
- 8:03Speaker 6: So they'll start decorating their house in what September.
- 8:08Speaker 2: We've actually already started.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I know some people that just have it all year
- 8:13Speaker 1: round and they just got to it.
- 8:14Speaker 2: We have like pumpkins and stuff like in our house
- 8:17Speaker 2: like all the time. But it's just so fun. Yeah,
- 8:20Speaker 2: it's just it's so fun. But yeah, so lucky that
- 8:23Speaker 2: the Adelaide Show falls on Halloween. Yeah, perfect, makes so
- 8:27Speaker 2: much sense.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I reckon that's that will be good, good weekend. And
- 8:31Speaker 1: it's Friday Saturday with it.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I think it's Friday.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Actually yea, it is too.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Because Friday the thirtieth as they call it this year
- 8:38Speaker 1: for the Halloween. Yeah, it's when it falls on a Friday.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Apparently it's I don't know, something to do with that
- 8:44Speaker 1: pagan ritual.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Yeah, a bit more spooky.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So that would be interesting, go smoothie guys, and it's
- 8:51Speaker 1: absolutely and then you're coming this way when Brisbane and
- 8:55Speaker 1: you're going to be like lord, Yes, one of my
- 8:58Speaker 1: favorite venue is it's it's pretty good little dive bar
- 9:02Speaker 1: in the valley.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's we've played it before and it was
- 9:06Speaker 5: super fun like that in twenty twenty twenty one.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I reckon it was the acoustics. They hit pretty hard.
- 9:15Speaker 4: It's loud, very well, that's perfect for us.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I know, we'll it's just small numbers wise,
- 9:22Speaker 1: but yeah, you're not getting sweaty and getting pushed around.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Then shows are the best, to be honest.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Oh they are there I and even as punt up,
- 9:30Speaker 1: they really are. It's getting getting in, getting gritty and
- 9:33Speaker 1: getting amongst dirty. Yeah, it's makes for some fun times.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely, Yeah, for sure.
- 9:40Speaker 1: And now I have to ask, so, Tylie are your
- 9:45Speaker 1: drums yep? And vocals? Trude's to you. That's that takes
- 9:50Speaker 1: some serious I left brain coordination kind of thing.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Makes me busy, that's for sure.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I reckon and Carlie, you're guitar and vocals, and I
- 10:03Speaker 1: have been told it's sneaky, sneaky you can slap that
- 10:07Speaker 1: bass in the studio recording.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah, well it's funny because we don't we don't have
- 10:13Speaker 3: a bass player, but I always go we do.
- 10:17Speaker 6: It's just me and I can't play both at the
- 10:19Speaker 6: same time.
- 10:19Speaker 1: So this is true. This is true, and thank God
- 10:22Speaker 1: for having studios and layering.
- 10:24Speaker 6: And it's so funny though.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I think if if a true bass player saw me
- 10:29Speaker 3: played bass, they'd be like, you play bass like a
- 10:32Speaker 3: guitarist would play bass.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Fellow bass player here, and look, it's probably not I
- 10:39Speaker 1: told myself how to play bass, and my brother was
- 10:41Speaker 1: a dramma and just east play it says it's four strudents.
- 10:45Speaker 4: You can't.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Watch this and it's a lot of fun. That's the
- 10:52Speaker 1: cool thing about it. You just have your own style.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And apparently the one string, the one finger is a
- 10:58Speaker 1: thing on there's some blakes place there paid two strings,
- 11:00Speaker 1: which was pretty.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I'm like, I mean, we're lucky the music we make
- 11:08Speaker 3: the bass doesn't have to be very complicated.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So hey, look, we like it when it's like me
- 11:14Speaker 1: or a flea say, or you know what's his from
- 11:21Speaker 1: slipped my mind? Yeah, it's this mad bass plays out
- 11:25Speaker 1: there and that's not me. Keep it simple.
- 11:27Speaker 2: What I said.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So, so you've been in studio and you've got your
- 11:31Speaker 1: new track out, and tell me about it. What's I heard?
- 11:36Speaker 1: You guys had described yourself as if blink oneted two
- 11:40Speaker 1: would meet Kesher. Yeah, a pretty pretty cool way to
- 11:45Speaker 1: describe yourself. I reckon it's a fair description.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Some of you guys are pretty good.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Yeah, underrated. She said she was pretty badass back in
- 11:53Speaker 1: the day.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, she's bad now she's still killing.
- 11:56Speaker 4: It's so cool.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely underrated for Yeah, so the motivation behind the
- 12:03Speaker 1: new track.
- 12:04Speaker 6: Yeah, so we like when we got asked to play
- 12:07Speaker 6: like a version for Triple J.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Yeah two years ago now or something like, yeah, I
- 12:12Speaker 4: think two years ago. Yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 6: So they basically.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Asked us to just prepare like a bunch of ideas
- 12:20Speaker 3: and they were like, you know, you can pick your favorite,
- 12:23Speaker 3: but just in case someone else is doing a similar
- 12:26Speaker 3: song or something, we need just a few backups.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 3: So our top pick was actually Wildest Dreams by Taylor Swift,
- 12:34Speaker 3: but it was like the second like we picked it
- 12:37Speaker 3: just before g Flip had picked to do Taylor Swift.
- 12:40Speaker 3: So that's why they wanted the backup, which was fine
- 12:42Speaker 3: because yeah, our second pick was called Me Maybe, which
- 12:45Speaker 3: we ended up doing. But lower on the list was
- 12:48Speaker 3: die Young by Kesher, And it was lower on the
- 12:51Speaker 3: list because it was the probably the most out there one,
- 12:53Speaker 3: like it was very weird and essentially what My Heart
- 12:56Speaker 3: stead is Now is what that was. If you sing
- 13:00Speaker 3: die Young by Kesher over the instrumental of My Heart's Dead,
- 13:04Speaker 3: that's what the cover was going to be. And Yeah,
- 13:07Speaker 3: then when we were talking about sort of releasing for
- 13:10Speaker 3: the year and you know, trying to put out a
- 13:11Speaker 3: few singles, we were like, oh, you know, we've been
- 13:14Speaker 3: writing for the album, which is fun like, but the album,
- 13:18Speaker 3: you know, we've sort of putting together a bigger focus,
- 13:20Speaker 3: a bit of like you know, person, yeah exactly, So
- 13:26Speaker 3: like we need something that's like sort of going to
- 13:27Speaker 3: catch people's attentions and just be like fun and easy
- 13:30Speaker 3: to listen to and catch you like right now. And
- 13:32Speaker 3: so we planned to meet up and hang out and
- 13:35Speaker 3: on the drive I was driving to Talia's house. On
- 13:38Speaker 3: the drive to her house, I was like, what are
- 13:39Speaker 3: we going to write about? What song are we going
- 13:41Speaker 3: to write? Like, you know, do I have any riffs?
- 13:44Speaker 3: And then I was like it just hit me. I
- 13:45Speaker 3: was like, oh, my goodness. That cover of Die Young
- 13:47Speaker 3: that we did was awesome and it sounded nothing like
- 13:50Speaker 3: the original, but we just take that and write our
- 13:53Speaker 3: own lyrics over it. And then yeah, I mean, Talia,
- 13:56Speaker 3: you could probably say what happened when I got to
- 13:59Speaker 3: your house.
- 14:00Speaker 5: It's funny because I was like, I think it was like,
- 14:02Speaker 5: I don't know, six o'clock at nine, she comes over.
- 14:05Speaker 2: She's like, I have an idea, and I was like,
- 14:09Speaker 2: let's go, let's do this. It was so funny and
- 14:11Speaker 2: it was so fun to write as well.
- 14:13Speaker 6: Yeah, it was like a mad scientist. Yeah, we mix
- 14:16Speaker 6: this chemical with this chemical. Yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I was like, all right, we're going to take the
- 14:20Speaker 3: instrumental and we're going to write our own lyrics, and
- 14:22Speaker 3: we just like sat down and locked in and it
- 14:24Speaker 3: was so much fun. And well, yeah, I think I
- 14:28Speaker 3: remember like I came up with the verse melodies like
- 14:33Speaker 3: the tough like you know, yelly sort of bits, and then.
- 14:36Speaker 6: They came up with that pre chorus. Yeah, like that
- 14:39Speaker 6: pre chorus book the kids in her back seat punched
- 14:41Speaker 6: me in the front seat.
- 14:42Speaker 3: And I think I've just personally loved the song so
- 14:45Speaker 3: much because I think it shows off both of us
- 14:47Speaker 3: really well. And I think it's like almost the first
- 14:50Speaker 3: time that we've just been straight into a song and
- 14:54Speaker 3: put it straight out straight away, and it's just like
- 14:57Speaker 3: showing off exactly who we are right in the moment
- 15:00Speaker 3: right now. Yeah. I think we're super proud of the song,
- 15:02Speaker 3: just simply because we haven't had to sit on it
- 15:05Speaker 3: for years, like we just wrote it, recorded it, put
- 15:08Speaker 3: it out and where we want to be right now.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And sometimes they're the best, you know, the less you
- 15:13Speaker 1: yeah and mull over it and change this and change that. Yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 1: they're the best.
- 15:17Speaker 3: And it was it was so easy to write as well.
- 15:19Speaker 3: We just sort of fell into each other's groove, which
- 15:22Speaker 3: was really nice.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Awesome, and the lyrics they they just write themselves pretty
- 15:25Speaker 1: much sometimes like that. Yeah, it's pretty cool. Oh that's awesome.
- 15:30Speaker 1: And so your videos, I see you guys have some
- 15:34Speaker 1: funny now making your music clips. So I really like
- 15:38Speaker 1: your to which song with the europe very seventies with
- 15:42Speaker 1: your pastoral blue drum kit, which.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Is just.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I do like that.
- 15:48Speaker 1: It's very Yeah, it's nostalgic.
- 15:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Well, so the motivation for for my Hotstead's film clip
- 15:57Speaker 1: tell me about that.
- 16:00Speaker 3: To be honest, we're just we were just kind of
- 16:04Speaker 3: poor at the moment, like we've we spent all our
- 16:06Speaker 3: money trying like touring America last year, which like we
- 16:10Speaker 3: don't regret at all, but now that we're back home, we're.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Like, oh, okay, where'd the money go?
- 16:16Speaker 1: We were like, yeah, exactly, Arming and R and what
- 16:22Speaker 1: to do?
- 16:22Speaker 6: Were like, should we just not do a video? Should
- 16:24Speaker 6: we just do like a lyric video?
- 16:26Speaker 3: And then we kind of just were brainstorming and we
- 16:29Speaker 3: were like, how about we just do it ourselves like
- 16:31Speaker 3: we've done, like back in the early days, we used
- 16:33Speaker 3: to make our own music videos. So we just were like,
- 16:37Speaker 3: all right, everyone find all the cameras that they have,
- 16:40Speaker 3: and we're just like book off two days of work
- 16:42Speaker 3: and just hang out and film some stuff. And it
- 16:45Speaker 3: turned out really cool and we ended up editing it
- 16:47Speaker 3: and then the only thing we paid for was someone
- 16:51Speaker 3: to color it and then also for lunch. So it
- 16:55Speaker 3: was like a very very cheap d y video and
- 16:59Speaker 3: we had some friends help us out just getting some
- 17:01Speaker 3: different angles and stuff like that.
- 17:03Speaker 6: But no, we're super proud of it.
- 17:05Speaker 2: But it was fun to make as well.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Sometimes music videos are so stressful, like filming them is
- 17:10Speaker 5: so because it's like a whole crew and then you're
- 17:13Speaker 5: on a schedule.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Production on its own.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's like doing it ourselves was just it
- 17:18Speaker 2: was really fun.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was it was like, you know, we
- 17:22Speaker 3: there was no one like you have to be in
- 17:23Speaker 3: this costume at this time, and then we have to
- 17:25Speaker 3: break for lunch here, like we always get when we
- 17:28Speaker 3: have to break for lunch, We're like, oh, but we
- 17:30Speaker 3: were just getting into the group of it.
- 17:32Speaker 6: Whereas this time it was so chill.
- 17:33Speaker 3: We were just like, all right, let's just go for
- 17:35Speaker 3: a couple of takes and yeah, I'm kind of hungry,
- 17:38Speaker 3: now let's have some lunch.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 1: It was really which is kind of you know, the
- 17:43Speaker 1: iron kind of feeds back into the track itself. It
- 17:46Speaker 1: just come very much from your own selves and you're
- 17:49Speaker 1: having that direction and just care free and just doing
- 17:51Speaker 1: doing what felt right.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it works, and I think it shows off our
- 17:56Speaker 3: personalities a bit more as well.
- 17:57Speaker 6: That was another big things. We were like, we just
- 18:00Speaker 6: want to just be ourselves. Like all our music videos
- 18:03Speaker 6: were acting and we love doing that, we love doing.
- 18:06Speaker 3: The storylines and the concepts, but we were like, let's
- 18:08Speaker 3: just strip it back and just like remind everyone who
- 18:12Speaker 3: the real teenage Jones is.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so so teenage es essentially? How who are
- 18:18Speaker 1: teenage Jones? How do you describe yourselves in the the
- 18:24Speaker 1: journey that you've been on and where you're going and where.
- 18:33Speaker 6: I know everyone says that, no, we got the teenage
- 18:37Speaker 6: spirit forever.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yeah, That's that's key, isn't it.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:42Speaker 6: Yeah yeah.
- 18:44Speaker 3: But I mean for us, like dr wise such a
- 18:47Speaker 3: huge part of everything we do, and I mean the
- 18:50Speaker 3: music videos that we've done in the past have been
- 18:51Speaker 3: super high production.
- 18:52Speaker 6: But I think what a lot of people don't see
- 18:54Speaker 6: is we still one involved.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Like you know, we come up with the concepts our
- 19:00Speaker 3: else we make all the props and the and costumes ourselves.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Like for our when we made our short film, we
- 19:07Speaker 3: hired a makeup artist to do our makeup because you know,
- 19:09Speaker 3: we sort of want to make up at a level
- 19:11Speaker 3: that we couldn't do on our own quickly.
- 19:14Speaker 1: But YouTube is just.
- 19:17Speaker 6: But we still you know, source all our costumes and
- 19:20Speaker 6: set up all the like sets and stuff.
- 19:23Speaker 3: So yeah, we're like very involved, and I mean, we
- 19:27Speaker 3: couldn't imagine handing our creative decision over to someone else
- 19:31Speaker 3: that we just want to be the forefront of the
- 19:33Speaker 3: creativity for the band forever.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And that's your vision. You plan to keep very handsled
- 19:38Speaker 1: in that down the track each other.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Yeah, and even with stuff like much like we always
- 19:46Speaker 3: we come up with the ideas, or even if we
- 19:48Speaker 3: don't come up with the ideas, like the guy who
- 19:51Speaker 3: designs all our merch, our photographer will he's like super
- 19:54Speaker 3: like we're.
- 19:55Speaker 6: Really close with him and he knows what we like
- 19:56Speaker 6: and we approve every.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Design, Like we always go back and be like, oh,
- 20:00Speaker 3: we like this, but we could it be these colors,
- 20:02Speaker 3: or could the you know this character be doing this
- 20:05Speaker 3: instead of this or whatever. So we're always like the
- 20:08Speaker 3: final say on our merch which I think speaks volumes
- 20:11Speaker 3: like people.
- 20:12Speaker 6: Don't want to buy it, Like I feel like when
- 20:15Speaker 6: people go.
- 20:16Speaker 3: To a show, they feel pressured to buy the shirt
- 20:18Speaker 3: because they're like when am I going to have a
- 20:19Speaker 3: chance to buy a shirt?
- 20:21Speaker 6: So we're always like, I want to make sure that
- 20:23Speaker 6: the shirt is not only the tour shirt, but.
- 20:26Speaker 3: It also looks like a shirt, like it just looks
- 20:28Speaker 3: wearable and fast instead of just like slapping a logo
- 20:32Speaker 3: on it and calling it a day.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's some that's good. I mean, it would
- 20:35Speaker 1: be pretty weird to have merch out there that you
- 20:39Speaker 1: don't even know what I haven't seen.
- 20:40Speaker 6: Before all yeah, I know.
- 20:42Speaker 3: And we just we want to be proud of everything
- 20:44Speaker 3: we've made, so yeah, you know, why not be super
- 20:48Speaker 3: you know, creative in the merch area as well.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Absolutely, And speaking of merch, so do you guys have
- 20:53Speaker 1: any quirky match that you put up there and yourself
- 20:56Speaker 1: as well? Like you see some artists they are do
- 20:59Speaker 1: escape or basketballs or just random random ship do you
- 21:03Speaker 1: guys have anything like that or plan to do anything
- 21:06Speaker 1: a bit quirky down the track? Which fine, it is
- 21:09Speaker 1: kind of cool some of it. Yeah, Office Pack was
- 21:12Speaker 1: pretty impressive.
- 21:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Well currently we've got we made we scrap books, some
- 21:18Speaker 5: like little magazines that have like the My Heartstead release,
- 21:22Speaker 5: like photos and lyrics and stuff from that, the Sweet
- 21:25Speaker 5: and Slow releas as well. We've like so we like
- 21:27Speaker 5: sat down two days and like scrapbooks at all and
- 21:30Speaker 5: like got them all made so and they're pretty cheap
- 21:33Speaker 5: as well, because we want our not to be accessible. Yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 5: and it's like some people can't afford like fifty dollars
- 21:39Speaker 5: for a T shirt, but like we have ten dollars
- 21:41Speaker 5: little magazines or which is great. Yeah, and we've got
- 21:45Speaker 5: little badges that little badge packs for sale that like
- 21:48Speaker 5: we handmade as well, so yeah that's fun merch.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, because matches. I mean, it's great, but it
- 21:55Speaker 1: can be out of control crazy, yeah, ridiculous.
- 21:58Speaker 3: And also like the way we see it is, you know,
- 22:02Speaker 3: people everyone's lives is so crazy and busy and stuff.
- 22:05Speaker 3: You know, people were going to move houses eventually, and
- 22:08Speaker 3: I think something like a little zine is going to
- 22:10Speaker 3: slip so much easier into your packing boxes than.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Affording you or something, you know. But obviously we still
- 22:15Speaker 6: sell clothes as well.
- 22:17Speaker 3: But yeah, again, as Tylia said, it needs to be accessible,
- 22:20Speaker 3: and not everyone can afford the big heavy merch items,
- 22:23Speaker 3: and some people just even they're like my reasoning for
- 22:26Speaker 3: not getting band shirts is my closet.
- 22:28Speaker 4: Is full, like.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Myself, and I'm like I have to either like choose
- 22:34Speaker 1: between culling, which I can't, or just storing. So yeah, yeah,
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's it's it's addictive. But yeah, I don't know about
- 22:43Speaker 1: you guys. Take one thing. I I feel it's really
- 22:47Speaker 1: it's unfair with the merch is you know, you've got
- 22:49Speaker 1: the money website or you know, help the platform they sell,
- 22:52Speaker 1: and then when you go to the show, your punches
- 22:55Speaker 1: are fans already buying a ticket, and then they're charging
- 22:58Speaker 1: more at the shows, and they do on the site
- 23:02Speaker 1: because they need like they kick back, and it's it's
- 23:04Speaker 1: a bit disappointing. So let's hoping to see some change
- 23:08Speaker 1: in that area doing it.
- 23:12Speaker 3: It's hard too, because you know, our ticket sales don't
- 23:16Speaker 3: just go directly to us, like we don't get all
- 23:19Speaker 3: the thirty dollars of the ticket or whatever. You know,
- 23:21Speaker 3: that's just someone goes to the venue, and then there's
- 23:23Speaker 3: the booking fees and the booking agents and the management fees,
- 23:27Speaker 3: and by the time that waters down into our tiny percentage,
- 23:30Speaker 3: we don't actually get a huge profit from shows, and
- 23:35Speaker 3: so merchs are really where we make our money. But
- 23:37Speaker 3: it is a fine line of like we don't want
- 23:39Speaker 3: to exploit anyone's bank accounts, Like we want people to
- 23:42Speaker 3: feel like they can, you know, have a keepsake, but
- 23:46Speaker 3: not feel pressured that they have to drop fifty dollars
- 23:49Speaker 3: when they're not getting paid till next week or something.
- 23:51Speaker 1: For sure, no as said krudos, you guys have taken
- 23:55Speaker 1: the Independent the road and really embrace that, and it's
- 24:00Speaker 1: it's good to see and it shows in your work
- 24:02Speaker 1: and in where your successes. I guess it's so thank you,
- 24:05Speaker 1: pretty proud and exciting times to come.
- 24:08Speaker 4: So thank you so much, thank you, we are.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Thanks for having a chat today with us here at
- 24:15Speaker 1: haaving that we like to make Frida I feel good.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks having for having
