• Brothers in the Box: Welcome back to another episode of Brothers in the Box. I'm your host, Ilias, here with my co-host Ishan. And before Ishan starts yapping, I just wanted to say a very special Father's Day. Happy Father's Day. Happy Father's Day. Probably the most pro maybe our most religious listener. Yeah, I would I would I mean I don't know. From the beginning. Maybe there's that Taiwan person that listens more than him. Who knows? Yeah, maybe. Yeah. Even though it is on two times speed, we still love you. It is. ⁓ and Before we we get into NHL, FIFA, all of this, ⁓ we just wanted to say that we had the privilege of attending a FIFA World Cup game yesterday with with dad for Father's Day. the Egyptian ⁓ versus New Zealand match and wow. Like you know, y you go into sports events and there you know you have that idea in the back of your mind and how you think it's gonna go. And you know, there's a little bit of inkling telling you, ⁓ it could be the best best match you've ever experienced. There's also something telling you that this game is gonna end zero zero and no one's gonna score and it's gonna be yes, it was gonna be a very cool experience, but we didn't get to see any goals. Yeah. And boy was it crazy. It was it was absolutely fantastic. ⁓ Yshan, why don't you share your perspective? 'Cause it was completely different to mine. Yeah. ⁓ so for And my side, I'm not, you know, ⁓ affiliated with FIFA in any way. we got off at the train station. Everyone is very nice, a bunch of volunteers around the area guiding us to tell us where to go. we get into the area where you give your tickets and it was so loud. Like already a bunch of Egyptian fans, New Zealand fans Just a crowd of people already just just ready to go inside the stadium. There's actually a point in time when we were walking in this massive crowd and the police actually had to stop everyone for a brief moment because it got too crowded and the security was getting overwhelmed. I see. ⁓ And then so we they they let us through it after ⁓ what say five minutes or so. You know, just just to pause you right there. Yeah. I know for the Qatar Canada match That all the there's like a big march, like a procession from science world to BC Place. I'm kinda wondering how that works because of the fact that they have nobody there and then all the ticket holders show up and they're all trying to get into the stadium as quick as possible. But that's that's a discussion for another day. Continue, please. Yeah, yeah, yeah. ⁓ but there was a big group of people, all had flags, everything. Yeah, Dad was ⁓ talking to everyone and trying to get a hold up as many flags as possible, right? Whether it was New Zealand or Egyptian, he did not care. Because he was just trying to be that. He's a man of the people. Yeah, we we actually met a lot of people from all over the world, which is very, very cool. ⁓ and then we got into the stadium. Very the the security was very well done. I really liked how they did it. Not not the at the guards, not the guards, but the the I like how they set it up. ⁓ it was very it was very quick and simple. There's just a big line that formed and it was very spread out. A bunch of people there to guide you, tell you where to go, and then all you had to do was just scan your tickets. You could actually tap your tickets on the the device that they had there. Mm-hmm. I think that's what they're doing now. Like that's the new It's the new thing. And I I didn't even know you could do that. Like there was people like still scanning their tickets and ⁓ we just tapped ours. Wow and we went and there was like the rotating thing that ju went right through. Beauty. Little bit of a you know, you can you can s FIFA you can take this how you will. I'm not gonna diss you in any way. Your your security was very lenient with me and my family and I truly appreciate that. ⁓ it did result in a problem. Yeah, it did. ⁓ and we'll we'll go we'll get into that later. Yeah. ⁓ but yeah, other than that, we got our FIFA fan IDs. If you do end up going to a game, make sure you get one of those. It's very, very cool. You can personalize your own. But yeah, overall amazing experience. We got into the stadium. Crazy, crazy seeing just even just seeing the pitch up close. Yeah. And ⁓ yeah. One in a lifetime. Once in a lifetime opportunity for sure. Especially it being here in your hometown. Like it the chances of it it being here again in the next twenty years are very low. Yeah, even longer than that. And the chance of it happening in your lifetime. again in your hometown also extremely low. So very cool. ⁓ from from my point of view, it was a little bit different just because of the role that I'm in with FIFA. I'm on the match or sorry, on the pitch before the match starts. So I was there five hours before game. Which got kick off which is insane. Yeah. Like another another piece of advice for FIFA. Not that I'm not that we're dissing or anything. Please sponsor us. ⁓ yeah, you you don't need the pre match volunteers to be there five hours before kickoff. I understand that you want to get everybody situated and and such, but it's just such a make sure ⁓ no one rolls themselves into the flag. Exactly because there was somebody who rolled themselves in the flag. ⁓ on the way out, they tripped and they fell and they got they got caught. I'm very sorry that happens here. Prayers up for that person. Well I hope he or she are or they are okay. ⁓ yeah, and so as I was had the opportunity of carrying and holding the Egyptian flag, which was really cool. And I was able to find as as we walked out, I was able to find the family and wave to them. Yeah, it's actually kinda cool to see you like right there. Yeah, good pictures and so that was Really cool. I really brought a big smile to my face to see you guys in the crowd. I thought that was really special. and then as soon as we got back into the tunnel after the national anthems had been sung, I wanted to get wit to you guys as soon as possible. Unfortunately, because of security regulations, I had to completely exit the facility and then come back in as a fan. And my bag was not able to be left outside or sorry, it wasn't able to come with me into the stadium. So what I did was I grabbed a couple waters from the holding space because I'm not paying $7.75 for a bottle of water. And I put it next to a gate. And then the gate that I was supposed to enter from, I sprinted past that in order to get to the area where I could go change. I changed my o ⁓ like what I was wearing because I was not allowed to wear the volunteer uniform, nor did I want to wear the volunteer uniform into the stadium. And then I left my bag underneath a table, hoping that nobody would take it or find it. Yeah. Because there was no other secure area to leave my bag which had my battery pack and my AirPods and my clothes. Of course. And then I ⁓ sprinted to the nearest gate and got into the into the stadium. And then I had to go to the bathroom really badly so that I had to take a break, but and then I I met up with ⁓ the family who were sitting in the stands and I actually did it surprisingly fast. Yeah, I was I was surprised you got to us that quickly, I believe. Was it like the twelfth minute? Twelfth minute mark, yeah. So I didn't miss any of the goals. I think New Zealand scored fourteen, fifteen minutes in. Yeah. So Very close to when you when you go out there. Very good timing. ⁓ just it's very different being on the pitch versus being in the stands. But I'm really, really happy that we got to experience very, very grateful. ⁓ yeah, and it was just a really special Father's Day. Yeah. And ⁓ I mean, just like some match highlights before we completely end the segment. I think one of the coolest things that we really talked about ⁓ was the atmosphere of the Egyptian fans. Yeah, there was a I I wanna say that eighty five percent of the stadium was cheering for Egypt. Yeah. Well it makes sense 'cause it was their home game, but still like you know, you could see like the strip of white jerseys, which were the New Zealand fans, but you could just see a sea of red. Yeah, and every like a lot of the Egyptian fans had like body paint, face paint on. Yeah. I saw a couple of the with the pharaoh and the pharaoh hats. That was that was very cool. Because their their nickname is the pharaohs. Yeah. Egyptian team, yeah, yeah. So ⁓ yeah, very cool. A lot of them had flags. And then I really enjoyed hearing the different chants that they had. ⁓ it was really catchy. It's it's not something you get to experience in North American sports, I find. Yeah. ⁓ I think it's a very like European South American tradition, like very specific to s to soccer. I would say Yeah, I think you hear like the ⁓ like let's go Oilers or like, you know, just cheering on the team, but like it's not tailored. It's different. Yeah. It's different. Yeah. ⁓ but I think the the security breach that we were talking about. Yes. ⁓ so New Zealand went up one off a beautiful corner. ⁓ yeah, great corner, strong header. Yes, very strong header. ⁓ and you could tell that the New Zealand team was a lot taller than the Egyptian team. And so they definitely tried to use that to their advantage. But as soon as they scored, immediately parked the bus. Yeah. Like ⁓ I've never seen more Harambo like In my entire life. Maybe that Australian against Australia again was no no no. Haram ball against a Muslim country. Like I it was like You can't make it up. Fully, fully draw back. Like they knew they knew as if they conceded it was Kent. Yeah. And ⁓ they had so Egypt had so many opportunities to strike. I think they had thirteen shots in the first half. Yeah. Something s ⁓ twelve or thirteen. Yeah, something like that. And then finally Around the sixtieth minute, I think. Yeah. Somewhere around there. Yeah. Egypt broke through ⁓ off a off a beautiful cross and header. Yeah. Surprisingly a header went in. Yeah. For Egypt, considering how much shorter they were. And then I think five minutes later. Yeah. Salah just comes out. Muhammad Salah himself. Yeah. He like There's like a one two touch pass and just buries it in the bottom left corner. Yeah, it was just and then the security breach. Yeah, the stadium just erupted and there's a few fans that set off a smoke bomb and it was just like filled with like red and white smoke. And yes, very cool from smelling. But I think they definitely got kicked out. You know, no, they did. I saw a video of it just zoomed in on them and they're like all look so sad and they're getting out of the stadium. Yeah, and then ⁓ And then I wanna say like seven or eight minutes after that, ⁓ Egypt scored I wanna say the best goal of the night. Yeah, it was a beautiful It was a low cross and the I can't remember his name, but whoever the player was dived and headed it in like into the bottom corner, bottom left corner, and it was just such a beautiful goal. Yeah. And the match ended at that score three three one. For Egypt's first ever World Cup win. Yeah. I remember f that feeling when we when we won a guitar game. It's it's very it's very nice feeling to have. yeah, so just really cool to be in that atmosphere and to see some like the fans celebrating and dancing outside the stadium after we had got out and yeah. Just like just like jubilation from the players as well. Like the players were dancing on the pitch and they're so happy. And it's I think s For me, like soccer more than anything, but sports in general, is just so deeply ingrained to the culture and tournaments like FIFA really make that shine. Yeah, it really like like we've talked about how like important it is, but sports brings people together and it's just naturally you form this kind of bond because you all want the same thing to happen. Yeah. And It doesn't it doesn't matter your your race, your ethnicity, your gender, your social status. Yeah. If you're a fan of a team, it doesn't it doesn't matter who you're with. Yeah. You know? And I I really appreciate that about sports. And and the World Cup is is probably one of the best showings of that togetherness. Yeah. And I think as a as a as a add on to that, ⁓ it really helps bring out, you know, like That nationality aspect as well. Like it brings citizens of the same country together. Yes. And as well as like, you know, fans across like ⁓ me cheering for England. Yeah, yeah. It brings ⁓ fan no, I was gonna say even fans from across North America who is known to hop on bandwagons. I'm not a bandwagon, bro. I was gonna say such as myself. Holy defense. ⁓ no, but I think you know, to go explore and see, like for me personally ⁓ I love experiencing new cultures and getting to know like and understand some of these players' stories and then get to know some of the fans as well. Yeah. Is very, very cool. And like I feel like going to the yesterday's game makes me want to visit Egypt more. Yeah, exactly. What it makes me want to get an Egypt jersey. Yeah, I wanna I wanna move salad to be like what if I become a Liverpool fan? I think he's actually leaving Liverpool. ⁓ is he actually? Yeah, because I ⁓ from what I've read I'm not a hundred percent sure. Like I'm like I'm I'm not gonna say I'm I'm not gonna sit here and say I'm a soccer fan. Yeah. I I'm a Madden City bandwagon. I'm not I'm not I'm proud to say that actually. I'm proud to say that. You shouldn't be, but okay. Yeah, but ⁓ apparently he had a very difficult season with Liverpool and I think they ⁓ have mutually parted ways. I don't know where he's playing next year, but Well, you know, if I somewhat like the team you're playing for next year, I'll get your jersey. Yeah. Omar Marmoush though. Egyptian Man City legend. I know that much. Okay, well, ⁓ that was our little FIFA spiel. We'll come back to ⁓ previewing the Canadian match on Wednesday, which is gonna be electric at B C Place. But first, let's go over what this podcast is about in hockey. Yeah. And earlier in the year, episode three If you would like to go back and listen to it, 'cause after listening to this one, going back and w and watching or listening to that one will definitely be a laugh. Yeah. ⁓ Ishan and I had a laugh listening to it and going over it. But episode three, we made some predictions. We made some predictions indeed. Yeah. Did those predictions pan out? Some of them did. Some of them did. A lot of them didn't though. Most of them. A lot of them did not. ⁓ Yeah. So I mean let's just get into it, Ishan. Hit me with the Heart Memorial Trophy. Yeah. What we said and what actually happened. So the Heart Memorial Trophy, most valuable player, it was a this year was won by Nikita Kuchrov. Congratulations to Cooch. Yeah. I don't know if he fully deserved it, but he did. He did actually no. He deserved it, but I think it could have gone to McDavid. Yeah, I think it was it was a toss up and we both said McDavid. ⁓ he won by one first place vote. Yeah, so it's very, very tight. Very, very tight race. ⁓ but yeah, congratulations to Kuchov. We were both wrong. Mm-hmm. Art Ross though. Art Ross we ⁓ is just the most points overall. And ⁓ Isha and I both said McDavid, and as you might know, that came true. He I don't know how many points he ended with this this season. One hundred and forty. That's insane. No, don't quote I want him to break two hundred though. That's not Is that crazy? Yes. Did he have a hundred and forty? He A hundred and thirty eight. So very close. Almost almost very close. Ted Lindsay. ⁓ wait, yeah. Ted Lindsey ⁓ yeah, sorry, sorry. Yeah, we can do Ted Lindsay first. Yeah, sure. I mean that was another one we were both right about. Ted Lindsey was won by ⁓ McDavid as well. Most outstanding player voted by the NHL PA or players association. So it's just all the players vote on who they think is the most outstanding player. I think, you know. I feel like that award is probably the most special. Yeah, because everyone else in the league thinks you're the best. Yeah. And I think it was clear because every every other other than the ones that are based on stats, all the other awards are based on the media members, and some of these media members are so incredibly stupid. We'll we'll get it. Well well for like the heart, which would got a vote? Yeah, and Lan is called God of Like Like okay, I know he was a good captain and I know they had a good like he was a good goaltender, but ⁓ my goodness. Yeah, we we cannot be serious. ⁓ yeah, but I think you know, well deserved. ⁓ definitely I think in everyone's opinion, the best player in the NHL in the world right now. Yes. ⁓ next award is the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy, which is the most goals in the league. And that went to Nathan McKinnon while Ishan said Austin Matthews. I I thought it was gonna be better this season. Like I I don't know if that was the greatest shot. I mean, I said McDavid, which also wasn't You did have a good amount of goals this season. He did. He had forty eight, he was third. So to be fair, I don't think Matthews has broke the top fifty. Matthews Matthews, I'm just trying to Just taking me a little while to find him. I can just search it up because we're not getting anywhere with ⁓ he was fifty eighth. Honestly, I'll take Tied for fifty eighth with twenty seven goals. Consider wow, what point in the season did he get injured? I'm not a hundred percent sure. It's not yeah. I th I thought, you know, Toronto was gonna flourish with the He played his last game on March twelfth. But he also didn't start the season, I don't think, right on time, right? Yeah, he was injured a lot this season. And then that Radko Gudis really took him out. No, no, he did. He did play. ⁓ maybe he was out after October. I think he missed all of November. Maybe not. Okay, so I chose an injury prone player as well as he wasn't on the greatest team, and like that team was horrible this year. They just got lucky with what happened in the offseason. Our next trophy is the Consmite Trophy, playoffs MVP. We both said McDavid. Yes. horribly wrong. The Oilers were gonna go all the way. Who would have thought? Jordan Stahl. Yeah, I mean he he played absolutely great in the playoffs. ⁓ definitely deserved. It's like he turned back the clock like twenty years. Yeah. And that's how he played in the finals. He had a goal in every game. Yeah, which is Right? Yeah. Or maybe not the f he didn't have a goal in the last game. Yeah, no, no goal in the last but he had six goals. Yes, he had six goals. So just absolutely incredible from him. Averaging one goal in the playoffs or sorry, in the Stanley Cup final is is an incredible feat, and yeah. He definitely deserved to win the consmite this year. Our next trophy is the Vesna, which is the best goaltender in the league, and that was won by Andre Vasilevsky ⁓ with Ishan saying Ottinger. Jake, what happened? D no no. That was a horrible pick and I said that in episode three and this just confirms it. Do you wanna do you wanna know you wanna say who you put? Ilya Sorokin. I I don't think that's crazy. Yeah. I d I don't know what you want. It w they were both horrible. I mean That's true. But I think Sirokin was a little bit better. Arguably Sorokin was better than Especially with the roster that he had. Yeah, Odinger was on the better team. I think Schaefer definitely helped with that. I I just thought Odinger was gonna make more of a splash this year. Mm-hmm. That's fair. And both or Sirokin was a finalist, wasn't he? For Vesna. I believe so. Yeah, so it was Vasilevsky, Sorokin, and Syman. So I think I won that one because I got closer. Okay. Congrats. But both of us did not get it right. Yeah. Our next one is the William ⁓ Jennings trophy, which is the goalie or goalies on a team with the fewest goals against. Yes. And this trophy was won by the wood combo, Blackwood and Wedgewood. Into which Ishan Predicted it would also be Jake Oninger. I have faith in Ottinger. Okay. I can't like you were a little bit wishy washy. I was. But you're But I ended up I ended the conclusion with the wood combo, and so for that I got that one right. I I I'm actually surprised that I got that one right. I mean they were it does make sense because going into it, they were the best goaltender tandem. I would say ⁓ besides Actually no, there was literally no one else. Yeah, this this was the most Maybe if Toronto was like actually good, then Stollers and if they all had a defenseman. Yeah. Who's not named Morgan Riley, maybe. Or Brandon Carlo. Yeah. ⁓ but yeah. Brandon Carlo. That's a name. Imagine having Brandon Carlo and not Fraser Minton. Who's arguably better right now? I bet I think I'd rather have Fraser Minton at ⁓ At defenseman and then Brad and Carla. ⁓ our next trophy, Sean. ⁓ yes, it is the James Norris Memorial Trophy. Best defenseman. It did go to Rowensky. Yes. ⁓ we I said ⁓ Hughes and you said Macar. So you technically were closer. Technically, 'cause ⁓ Macar was a finalist. He got sucked in. It definitely should have gone to Boosh. I just gotta say one last time before I shut up about it. But the Norris this year should have gone to Boosh. It was it was funny because when we were reviewing the last episode or the the predictions episode, we both said it's just gonna go to the defenseman with the most points. Yeah. And it didn't. Yeah. Which is surprising. Yeah. But Boosh did and It's crazy that he he finished third in voting, which we both said that he would. No, fourth. ⁓ he finished fourth in voting. Because ⁓ Daleen finished third. ⁓ yes, right. Yeah, Bo Bush finished fourth in voting, but still we both got it wrong. ⁓ and then we made up a another award that the initial should create. Which is the best defensive defenseman because the Norris trophy should just be named to the best offensive defenseman or just defenseman with the most points. Yeah. And we both have determined, 'cause it's not a real award, ⁓ that that award goes to Rasmus Dalin. Yeah. He was excellent. ⁓ tremendous and so impactful in ensuring that Buffalo made it to the postseason for the first time in what, fifteen something like that. Five and fifteen years. Offensively he was very, very good. He had the points, but defensively and just that leadership aspect and doing everything that I think like when I think of defense a defenseman, like the prime example and the person we both put was Jacob Slavin. but Slavin was excellent in the playoffs. Yeah. Like I don't think I don't think that Carolina team is able to handle some of the other teams as well as they did without Slavin's presence. No, for sure. and you just look at him as a model and I think Dalin really embody that kind of player this year. ⁓ and that's why we that's why we gave it to him. Yeah, absolutely. The Selkie trophy is next, which is the best defensive forward, and that went to Nick Suzuki this year. We both said dry settle. I thought he would take the leap. He he talked about it a lot, like not even at the beginning of the season, but during the season as well. He was very ⁓ invested in trying to prove himself as a defensive forward. I think he did, just not to the same extent that Suzuki did. And I think there still is a little bit of work to for Dry Saddle to do in terms of his defensive ability, but it's definitely been improved. Yeah. No I I definitely saw him take a step forward in the right direction. The only thing that Dry Setto, I know you're a star player and I know it's difficult to go hit someone, but please, for the love of God, please go hit someone because I I don't think you can get this award without laying the body on a few people. Yeah. That's that's a fair fair comment. ⁓ the Calder Memorial Trophy this year went to Matthew Schaefer. He had the most points out of any of the rookies. He's also defenseman, which is crazy. And he's just an absolute stud. Yeah. I said Demidoff. ⁓ I thought he'd have a better year. And at least you got it right, you said Schaefer. I did say Schaefer. ⁓ Demidov was a good shout. He played great this year. Second in ⁓ second in voting. Or s was he second in voting? Yeah, I think he was. Yeah, and then Seneca was was third, but ⁓ yeah, Schaefer was the all around clear winner. It wasn't unanimous though. Or sorry no. His his ⁓ his caller was unanimous, but him making the all-star team wasn't unanimous. Which is very interesting. Really weird, right? Yeah. The only thing you were wrong about and your predictions went to the min because of that is you told people to put money on ⁓ Isaac Howard being in the top five. And he's still gonna be a rookie. Maybe next year. Maybe next year, maybe next Yeah, literally. You'll put it with McDavid and have a a Zach Hyman X esque season. next trophy is the Lady Bing, which is the sportsmanship and skill trophy. Went to Cole Caulfield this year. ⁓ who was making a very big splash for the Rocket. And I wish Caulfield would have won it over McKinnon. I think Because because for for the the sole reason that McKinnon missed that wide open net at the at the Olympics and that could have been the winner. Also, Caulfield had zero empty nets this season. Every single one of his goals was scored on a goaltender. Yeah. Whereas I think McKinnon had the most twelve. That's insane. I think something like that. ⁓ But we both said ⁓ Copatar, we thought it would be a nice send off. I think he still should have got it, but I'm happy that Caulfield at least won a trophy. He won a trophy, yeah. He definitely deserved a trophy. we wish Copertar the best in his retirement. I'm sure he'll like do s maybe I don't know actually know if he'll come back as a coach. He might transition to some type of ⁓ leadership role with I think it'll take a couple of years for the family though. Probably. ⁓ but yeah, really ⁓ really cool player. Very skillful and has played for a lot of years. Yeah. I think the league will be a l just a little bit different without him. Yeah. Especially on that ⁓ on that games team. Yeah, exactly. And then we have two awards left. I just wanna let's do the Jack Adams first because I think the last award, our predictions were probably the and I'll say your prediction was the funniest out of of all of these ones. So the Jack Addams Award is for the coach of the year. And that went to John Cooper this year, with Ichan's predicted ⁓ prediction being Rod Brindamore, which wasn't a bad pick by any means. I mean, I think he should have been a nominee this year. I ⁓ Yeah. Who's who's the third nominee? There was ⁓ John Cooper, Lindy Ruff, and then one of the I think it was Jared Bettner. ⁓ Bednar. Yeah. Which which makes sense. He won the President's Trophy. no, it wasn't it wasn't Jared Badner. It was Dan Muse, ⁓ Penguins coach. Okay, that you know, brought him to the top of the got that rostered the playoffs is pretty impressive. Well, I think it's a crazy story that as a coach for the last five years, you've taken a brick and you've had your team ⁓ it at the end of each practice that you've done, ⁓ you don't tell them the fact that it weighs the same amount of ⁓ the same amount as the Stanley Cup. Yeah. And he told them I saw a clip on it today. You saw he told them that it's because ⁓ he ⁓ he told them that ⁓ it was all based on the hard working of that your family's done and you know you lifting up like in like the working class. Yeah. and it was funny because he said no one would be talking about this if it didn't if we didn't actually win the cup. Yeah. So yeah, I think great pick, but it didn't it didn't happen. Yeah, and then my pick was ⁓ Martin Saint Louis. Which is also a very good pick. Yeah. I mean, there was a lot of good coaches this year, so definitely hard to choose from. But yeah, I mean, I think both were good shouts. The John Cooper pick, maybe a little bit of ⁓ a sympathy pick right there because he's never won before and he definitely has deserved it in the past. Yeah. But depends on who you ask. And then our last award. Is the Mark Messi NHL Leadership Award, which is for leadership on and off the ice, which was won by Gabriel Landescoggin. Ishan, would you like to share this pick that you made, which is probably your most egregious take that you've ever made? I d I think there's a case to be made. How how the season panned out was not what I was thinking when the season started. I thought this team was gonna be very different. Why I don't okay, I I've talked to like so many people about this, but why do the Florida Panthers, whenever you know you think they're gonna be horrible the next season or this year they were bad and then they just somehow make this happen. If you don't know if you don't know what we're talking about, the Ottawa Senators sent their captain, Brady Kachuk, to the Florida Panthers in exchanged for the ninth overall pick, the twenty fifth overall pick in this year's both in this year's draft, a conditional twenty twenty nine top ten protected pick. And a twenty twenty seven second round pick. So holy package. Yeah. Very big package, but I think overpaying player. Overpay, in my opinion. Yeah. But the value that Florida is getting, I think they're willing to pay for it, and this is gonna boost their chances at going and trying to win yet another cup, a third cup in four years. Yeah, I mean I think they made it happen very nicely. They traded Samuskevich. Someone that would have played in the similar p position that Brady Kachuk would have played. Would play, yeah. ⁓ 'cause he's a younger guy and he ⁓ would have played on probably the third or second line. trying to bump up and get it better as a a younger player. But he traded them to Seattle and In exchange for that twenty fifth and the second rounder of twenty twenty seven. So two of those picks came from Seattle and then they had the ninth pick because they were horrible this year. Yeah. And then just added one more pick and that got the deal done. So I think yes, it was a little bit of an overpay, but very, very strategic move from from Bill Zito. Yeah, and I think that Brady and we we can review this later in the season ⁓ next year, but I think Brady will perform better in Florida than he has in Ottawa. Yeah. There's no pressure on him anymore. He can go out and be the player that he wants to be and Maurice will probably yell at him for taking a couple stupid penalties. But he's gonna make up for that with one, I think and I'm kind of jealous of ⁓ Matthew and Brady Kachuk because they're brothers and they get to play together. I think that's a really cool and special thing that not a lot of people have done in this league. And Ishana and I were gonna play basketball this year. For the first time we're gonna play basketball on the same team. And then unfortunately ⁓ that got canned. Thanks Z for that one. But ⁓ ruins everything. Yeah, literally. ⁓ but yeah, I I think it's really special and I think Brady is just he goes from being the guy who's in the spotlight, similar to Mitch Marner, to just being another one of those guys who can contribute night in, night out, but doesn't have to be that guy every single night. Yeah. And I mean, this Florida team is only getting better. There's still talks about them potentially getting Connor Hallebuck. Yeah. So watch out for more trades that just like this and other star players definitely getting moved. Taylor Raddish Darren Darren Radish. Sorry. ⁓ Darren Raddish Had a sign and trade ⁓ with the Toronto Maple Leafs ⁓ in exchange for a fifth rounder. ⁓ it is an eight by eight point five. I would say very good deal from Toronto. ⁓ when the news did break, his agent thought that he could get nine to nine point five in free agency. So I mean he had an amazing year. He did he Was one of those players that you know, when it's their last year on the contract and you have your best season yet. Yeah. He broke out in his at age thirty. Yeah. So we'll see if that pans out. I'm excited to see how the contract ages. I hope that he's that guy because I really enjoyed watching him play. Yeah. I don't know the thing the and I just don't see it's it's similar to so many players that this has happened to. But you look at ⁓ players playing with another star player. Like you look at Zach Hyman, he would not be the same player he is today and he would not be as well known if it wasn't for a McDavid. Fair. ⁓ and Darren Radish, he stepped into Victor Hedman's spot, so he was playing on the power play one. He got opportunity to score and it was all set up by Nikita Kutrov, Braden Point, Jake Enzel, ⁓ and just A lot of star talent there. You you don't know if you can get the same movement in Toronto. I'm sure they're trying to make that happen. Mm-hmm. But, you know, it's not. It's I think he he will be a relatively strong defenseman, but I don't think he'll be the same same defenseman that he was in in Tampa. That's that's fair to say. That's very fair to say. In other news, ⁓ the Leafs have traded ⁓ Joseph Wall for Samuel Arson. I don't expect that they'll keep Ayrson. No. ⁓ but definitely ⁓ a good move. Wall is one hundred percent the weaker goaltender ⁓ when you're comparing him to Stolars. And so a little bit of a cap move. ⁓ we'll see what happens with their draft on Friday and on Saturday. but yeah, I think ⁓ Some solid moves from Chika so far. Yeah. I think he's done his due diligence and he hasn't done anything too crazy. So there's nothing that Leafs fans can really be too upset about. Instead of doing nothing, he's at least doing something. Exactly. And I mean, from what could have been for Leafs fans to what is for Leafs fans. I would definitely take it. I would a hundred percent take it.
