- 1:05Speaker 1: Niners win in prime time and they're all whites in
- 1:08Speaker 1: Seattle late in the year for the second time in
- 1:11Speaker 1: four seasons. It's how the West was one. Hello and
- 1:14Speaker 1: welcome into NFL Now. I'm Momarice in the NFL Network
- 1:17Speaker 1: news room. Much more on the forty Niners division clinching
- 1:20Speaker 1: win on Thursday Night Football last night against the Seahawks,
- 1:23Speaker 1: and since you were gone, Kelly Clarkson joined the NFL family.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Will explain that in a little bit, but we start
- 1:29Speaker 1: with New Right Now. Huge news out of New York.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Mike White not cleared with that rib injury he suffered
- 1:35Speaker 1: against the Bills last week, so it'll be Zach Wilson,
- 1:38Speaker 1: who was elevated to number two this week to get
- 1:41Speaker 1: the start against the Detroit Lions. Here's Robert Salat talking
- 1:44Speaker 1: about the move. This is gonna be a great opportunity
- 1:48Speaker 1: for Zach Um. When he was elevated to the UH
- 1:52Speaker 1: to the number two quarterback, it was with the understanding
- 1:54Speaker 1: that there's a strong possibility that he was going to
- 1:57Speaker 1: play UM and to prepare accordingly. He's gotten vast majority
- 2:01Speaker 1: of the first team reps. He'll get all the reps today,
- 2:03Speaker 1: he'll get all the reps tomorrow, Um, And so we
- 2:06Speaker 1: feel very comfortable about zax preparation as the first string
- 2:10Speaker 1: quarterback and that he has not that he's gotten his
- 2:12Speaker 1: normal workload as a starting quarterback would normally get with
- 2:16Speaker 1: the limitations that were placed on on Mike. But love
- 2:20Speaker 1: love Mike, Love love how hard he's worked to try
- 2:22Speaker 1: to get back for his team. But at the end
- 2:24Speaker 1: of the day, this is one of those deals where
- 2:26Speaker 1: we've got to protect the player from the player for
- 2:28Speaker 1: much more in this story. Welcome in our Insiders he
- 2:30Speaker 1: and Rapp report and Tom pellas Tom PELLISERA excuse me
- 2:34Speaker 1: and Mark Ross for from some front office perspective, I in,
- 2:36Speaker 1: We'll start with you. What more went into this decision
- 2:39Speaker 1: for Zach Wilson back as the starter for New York. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 1: this is much more simple than I would say Tom's
- 2:45Speaker 1: last name. This really is a situation where the doctors
- 2:48Speaker 1: just did not clear him. Mike White dealing with a fracture,
- 2:52Speaker 1: as he told reporters just a couple of minutes ago,
- 2:54Speaker 1: significant rib injury. Took two shots to the ribs, missed time,
- 2:59Speaker 1: came back, miss time again, came back again. Clearly tough,
- 3:02Speaker 1: just not an issue here. You listen to Robert salad
- 3:04Speaker 1: to about why he loves Mike White. These are all
- 3:07Speaker 1: the reasons teammates do as well. He sought many opinions,
- 3:11Speaker 1: many many opinions to try to get cleared. It was
- 3:13Speaker 1: just not to be in. The Jets had a feeling
- 3:15Speaker 1: pretty earlier in the week that this would be the case.
- 3:17Speaker 1: One reason why Zach Wilson was elevated to the number
- 3:20Speaker 1: two spot. They knew they wanted to get another look
- 3:22Speaker 1: at him, knew they wanted him to play, didn't know
- 3:24Speaker 1: how or when? Now is the times was Zach Wilson
- 3:28Speaker 1: their first round? Who was you know struggling for a
- 3:30Speaker 1: lot of this year? Clearly not in a great space.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Took a step back, took a deep breath. Now set
- 3:36Speaker 1: to start this week, and we'll see Tom if he
- 3:38Speaker 1: finds a success that he and the Jets are looking for.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Me and Zack Wilson has been getting reps, a lot
- 3:45Speaker 1: of them have come after practice over the last several
- 3:48Speaker 1: weeks and what they call their flight school, throwing to
- 3:50Speaker 1: some of the practice squad players running the same place
- 3:52Speaker 1: and Mike White would be running with the first string,
- 3:55Speaker 1: just experiencing those on a different level. Obviously, He's also
- 3:57Speaker 1: been working to smooth out mechanics, just become more accurate
- 4:00Speaker 1: with the football, which was a strength for him when
- 4:02Speaker 1: they drafted him number two overall coming out of college. Here.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Uh certainly too. Though for Zack Wilson's is a long
- 4:09Speaker 1: term type of a thing, it's also a short term
- 4:11Speaker 1: thing because we'll see when Mike White potentially can get
- 4:13Speaker 1: back onto the field. But we do know is that
- 4:15Speaker 1: the Jets vetting all hands on deck approach trying to
- 4:18Speaker 1: get Zack Wilson back where he needs to go. We
- 4:20Speaker 1: spent a lot of extra time with quarterbacks coach Rob Calabaris,
- 4:22Speaker 1: he spent extra time with Mike Lafleur. The results of
- 4:26Speaker 1: that over the past month will be seen this weekend
- 4:29Speaker 1: against the red hot Lions team bro Bar Yeah, Tom,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and as Robert Salom mentioned, they did go five and two.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Was Zach Wilson started earlier in this season, so hoping
- 4:36Speaker 1: he can learn some of those lessons here in the
- 4:38Speaker 1: past month. Mark Ross from the front office perspective, how
- 4:41Speaker 1: do you balance the fact that Mike White seemed like
- 4:44Speaker 1: he commanded that locker room with the fact that Zack
- 4:46Speaker 1: Wilson has an opportunity perhaps to win that starting job
- 4:50Speaker 1: back for this season. Well, that coaching staff, in that
- 4:53Speaker 1: front office, they want Zack Wilson to go out there
- 4:55Speaker 1: and crush it this Sunday. There's no doubt about it.
- 4:58Speaker 1: They took him number two for a reason because they
- 5:00Speaker 1: believe that he could be the franchise quarterback. So they
- 5:03Speaker 1: don't want him to go out down and fail. They
- 5:05Speaker 1: want him to go out there and show why they
- 5:07Speaker 1: took him at number two. And for Zach Wilson, it's
- 5:10Speaker 1: all in his hands. Okay, he's taking a step back.
- 5:13Speaker 1: He's gotten the extra coaching, he's gotten the confidence back
- 5:15Speaker 1: with with not having played. Now he can go out
- 5:18Speaker 1: there and show himself it's in his hands to play
- 5:21Speaker 1: well and keep that job for the foreseeable future and
- 5:25Speaker 1: not let it go even if Mike White is healthy.
- 5:28Speaker 1: The problem is if Zach Wilson goes out there and
- 5:31Speaker 1: and plays like he did earlier in the year and
- 5:34Speaker 1: really struggles. Okay, it's easy to throw Mike White back
- 5:36Speaker 1: in there. But for the long term future of Zack Wilson,
- 5:39Speaker 1: if he goes out there and struggle, okay, now what
- 5:41Speaker 1: for the Jets organization that Okay, we sat him down
- 5:44Speaker 1: to build him back up and and get him back together,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and now he's going out there and failed again. That's
- 5:49Speaker 1: the long term problem. But for right now, they want
- 5:52Speaker 1: Zack Wilson to go out there and show why they
- 5:54Speaker 1: took him with the number two pick in the draft. Though,
- 5:56Speaker 1: bar and this is a huge game obviously, the Jets
- 5:58Speaker 1: are fighting for their playoff lives in the a f C,
- 6:01Speaker 1: going against a team that's one of the hotter teams
- 6:03Speaker 1: in football, Detroit trying to do the same in the
- 6:06Speaker 1: NFC playoff picture the way they turned on, Mark Ross,
- 6:09Speaker 1: Thank you for your perspective. We'll have much more for
- 6:11Speaker 1: me a little bit later in the show. Tom Ian,
- 6:12Speaker 1: stay right there as we continue to talk about injury
- 6:15Speaker 1: updates from this weekend, because in Baltimore, Lamar Jackson has
- 6:19Speaker 1: been ruled out for that game tomorrow in Cleveland, you
- 6:23Speaker 1: can see right here on NFL Network. Tyler Huntley has
- 6:27Speaker 1: been cleared from the concussion protocol, but John Harbor has
- 6:29Speaker 1: yet to name an official starting quarterback. So with that
- 6:33Speaker 1: in mind, Tom, what more can he tell us about
- 6:35Speaker 1: the Ravens quartoback situation. Well, no, Mark, Tyler Huntley says
- 6:40Speaker 1: that he does not think he actually had a concussion.
- 6:42Speaker 1: He never experienced any symptoms, though he does understand why
- 6:45Speaker 1: that a TC spot or in the booth as they
- 6:47Speaker 1: are at every game would pull him out after one
- 6:50Speaker 1: of the hits that he took this past weekend. All
- 6:53Speaker 1: indications are this is going to be Tyler Huntley in
- 6:55Speaker 1: the starting lineup with the backup quarterback being Anthony Brown
- 6:59Speaker 1: against the Browns after Brown finished off that win last
- 7:02Speaker 1: week against the Steelers. Nice job not messing that up. Also,
- 7:08Speaker 1: great job not messing up the toss as you did
- 7:10Speaker 1: last hour. For those who are watching anyway, let's talk
- 7:13Speaker 1: about Kenny Pickett, the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback. He is
- 7:16Speaker 1: in the NFL's concussion particle listed as doubtful according to
- 7:20Speaker 1: head coach Mike Tomlin, and every player to my knowledge
- 7:23Speaker 1: listed is doubtful this season has not played, so barring
- 7:25Speaker 1: some sort of dramatic turn, that would mean that Kenny
- 7:27Speaker 1: Pickett not going to play this week, But it is
- 7:31Speaker 1: unclear who plays in his place. Is gonna be Mason Rudolph,
- 7:34Speaker 1: who has been the third stringer this year, who was
- 7:37Speaker 1: certainly ready, who has waited his time, or Mitch Rabinsky,
- 7:40Speaker 1: who came on last week, has been the backup for
- 7:42Speaker 1: most of the season and frankly struggled. No word yet
- 7:46Speaker 1: firmly on who is the starter in Pittsburgh, but obviously
- 7:49Speaker 1: we are tracking that one to him. Ian Rappa Hort
- 7:52Speaker 1: bringing the heat this hour, burning me on the mispronunciation
- 7:55Speaker 1: of Tom's name, and burning Tom for throwing the tosses
- 7:58Speaker 1: out of order the memory of an elephant cheese. Ian
- 8:01Speaker 1: Tom will go back to you now. The floor is
- 8:03Speaker 1: yours on Josh Jacobs as one of the a f
- 8:06Speaker 1: C Offensive Player of the Year front Runners gets ready
- 8:09Speaker 1: to play in New England Patriots Homer. You don't often
- 8:14Speaker 1: see a player named the captain with four weeks ago
- 8:16Speaker 1: in this season, but it's exactly what happened with the Raiders.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Do you hear Josh McDaniels tell it. It was his
- 8:21Speaker 1: current captains that came to him with this idea. Mdaniels
- 8:24Speaker 1: cited the commitment the leadership of Josh Jacobs, among a
- 8:27Speaker 1: lot of other things, for the reason that, in McDaniel's words,
- 8:31Speaker 1: the Raiders captains mandated that Jacob should now be one
- 8:34Speaker 1: of them. McDaniels said, he's proud of him. It's not
- 8:37Speaker 1: hard to see why. The guy leads the NFL with
- 8:38Speaker 1: over four hundred rushing yards this season, has played through
- 8:42Speaker 1: a litany of injuries through the course of this season.
- 8:45Speaker 1: McDaniel said, the way that he rehabs, the way that
- 8:47Speaker 1: he gets himself back on the field, all that release
- 8:49Speaker 1: sets an example for the rest of this Raiders team.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Also worth mentioning, of course, that Josh Jacobs said to
- 8:54Speaker 1: be a free agent after this season. Franchise takes certainly
- 8:57Speaker 1: a possibility, but not a bad idea. When you're trying
- 9:00Speaker 1: to re sign one of the most productive players in
- 9:02Speaker 1: the NFL, to throw him a bone here and there,
- 9:04Speaker 1: maybe to give him some good feelings as you come
- 9:06Speaker 1: down the stretch. Of course, Rader's coming off that Thursday
- 9:09Speaker 1: night loss, as are the Seahawks yesterday. What more can
- 9:12Speaker 1: you tell us about Tyler Lockett i in Yeah, there
- 9:16Speaker 1: was some intrigues surrounding Josh Jacob's finger injury. Also similar
- 9:19Speaker 1: situation somewhat similar for Tyler Lockett and his finger injury.
- 9:23Speaker 1: He has a spiral fracture, as coach Pete Carroll described
- 9:27Speaker 1: on his in his finger. He is set to have surgery.
- 9:30Speaker 1: My understanding is he's out for next week's game. That
- 9:32Speaker 1: is what we know. The hope is that he's back
- 9:35Speaker 1: after missing just one game. It's not for sure he's
- 9:38Speaker 1: gonna have surgery. It's not a major surgery, but it's
- 9:40Speaker 1: also not my hands, so easy for me to say.
- 9:43Speaker 1: The hope is that he is back before the end
- 9:46Speaker 1: of the season and Seattle still in it. They still
- 9:48Speaker 1: got a shot and one of their best players wants
- 9:50Speaker 1: to be out there with him. All right. Thank you
- 9:52Speaker 1: Ian and thank you Tim very much for that report.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Always great to hear from you, guys. Meanwhile, last night,
- 9:59Speaker 1: Thursday Night Football, Brock pretty making his first road start
- 10:03Speaker 1: of his career as he continues to answer so many
- 10:05Speaker 1: questions on the forty niners viability as true NFC contenders,
- 10:09Speaker 1: looking very much the part last night as he finds
- 10:12Speaker 1: George Kittle for the twenty eight yard touchdown and then
- 10:15Speaker 1: later again George Kittle, this time from fifty forty yards
- 10:19Speaker 1: wide open again Jim and Mark rejoining us. Mark will
- 10:23Speaker 1: start with you, what was your biggest takeaway on the
- 10:26Speaker 1: forty Niners big one yesterday? Well, the forty nine game
- 10:29Speaker 1: plan was just what the forty Niners do. Their defense
- 10:32Speaker 1: dominated and crushed it. Their offensive playmakers came through for them,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and Brock Purty did enough to you know, put them
- 10:40Speaker 1: in position to succeed. And that's a masterful job by
- 10:43Speaker 1: the way by Kyle Shanahan with that offense, with guys
- 10:45Speaker 1: running running free all over the place. So their game
- 10:48Speaker 1: plan completely came together last night, which is has done
- 10:52Speaker 1: the last few weeks. And when I'm looking at the
- 10:54Speaker 1: bigger picture of this with the forty Niners and this
- 10:57Speaker 1: game plan, their formula to win, it's pretty much when
- 11:00Speaker 1: I look at the NFC, it's Philly is the best
- 11:02Speaker 1: team in the league in my opinion, and Dallas is
- 11:04Speaker 1: right there too as far as a threat, and then
- 11:07Speaker 1: the and the fort in the mix. It's really those
- 11:09Speaker 1: three teams when I look at the NFC of who
- 11:11Speaker 1: can take this and go to the super Bowl, and
- 11:14Speaker 1: the way this defense is playing for the Forts definitely
- 11:17Speaker 1: can beat Dallas. With that. We saw Dallas struggle last
- 11:19Speaker 1: week against the worst team in the league. It's really
- 11:22Speaker 1: Philly and the forty Niners when I'm looking at this,
- 11:25Speaker 1: and man, we Philly has got it all on all
- 11:28Speaker 1: sides of the ball. To Jalen Hurts pointing at the
- 11:31Speaker 1: m v P level, got to give them a little
- 11:33Speaker 1: bit as with them going against brock Purty. But this
- 11:36Speaker 1: San Fraan front that d can beat anybody, Jim, And
- 11:39Speaker 1: that's really what you have to look at. It's not
- 11:41Speaker 1: the whole league, a few teams they really have to beat. Yeah,
- 11:45Speaker 1: no question Mark, And I think you hit the spot
- 11:47Speaker 1: on with this defense. That's one of my takeaways was
- 11:49Speaker 1: just how locked in this unit is. Go back to
- 11:52Speaker 1: their game against Kansas City where they gave up forty
- 11:55Speaker 1: four points. Since then, the seven games since, they have
- 11:59Speaker 1: not allowed more than six team points and have allowed
- 12:01Speaker 1: a total of only twenty four in the second half.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I asked Sean Gifts in their safety about what trapped,
- 12:07Speaker 1: what changed after giving up forty four to Kansas City.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And here's one of the keywordst to any successful organization
- 12:13Speaker 1: or team. He said, accountability. Said we came back in
- 12:16Speaker 1: the next day, we had our meeting, defensive meeting, and
- 12:19Speaker 1: he said, guys took ownership of that poor performance that
- 12:23Speaker 1: we had, and since then they have been locked in
- 12:26Speaker 1: and with m their defensive coordinator, Damiko Ryan's designing these
- 12:30Speaker 1: great blitzes and plays, calling up the right mix, the
- 12:33Speaker 1: respect that the players have for him or whatnot, They're
- 12:36Speaker 1: gonna be a tough out for anyone at any point. Mark,
- 12:39Speaker 1: So I don't want to get too far ahead of this,
- 12:41Speaker 1: but like you say, if they meet up with Philadelphia,
- 12:44Speaker 1: that's gonna be a fun game to see come playoff time.
- 12:47Speaker 1: That would be an awesome game for sure. In that
- 12:49Speaker 1: defense during the seven game winning streak, giving up an
- 12:52Speaker 1: average of eleven points per game, so certainly tightening the
- 12:56Speaker 1: screws there defensively for San Francisco. Jim Mark, Thank you
- 13:00Speaker 1: both very much. Still to come here, we have another
- 13:02Speaker 1: division showdown to talk about. This one the sat A
- 13:05Speaker 1: Prime Time to a tongue of Ioloa going north to
- 13:09Speaker 1: visit Josh Allen and the Bills. We're breaking it down
- 13:11Speaker 1: next on NFL Now available, you're available, all right, This
- 13:20Speaker 1: is a Saturday night showdown right here on NFL Network.
- 13:23Speaker 1: The Dolphins and the Bills a f C East Rivers
- 13:27Speaker 1: rivals to a tongue of Ioloa and Josh Allen. As
- 13:30Speaker 1: you can see there, the Bills clinch a playoff birth
- 13:32Speaker 1: with a win versus the Dolphins, and for all intents
- 13:35Speaker 1: and purposes, they'd wrap up the a C. He's not mathematically,
- 13:39Speaker 1: but again essentially for much more in this matchup. Let's
- 13:42Speaker 1: welcome in our Mike Jordi, who's doubled as a weather
- 13:45Speaker 1: reporter all week long. Mike, of course, we're gonna get
- 13:48Speaker 1: implement whether we're expecting tomorrow, no matter it'll be cold,
- 13:51Speaker 1: whether it's snow flurry or not. How are the Bills
- 13:53Speaker 1: gonna lean on Josh Allen, that big arm in this game? Yeah,
- 13:58Speaker 1: I suspect more than snow flurs, right, Omar, But I
- 14:00Speaker 1: look at Josh Allen and I say there's a lot
- 14:02Speaker 1: of gnashing of teeth around here about protecting Josh him
- 14:05Speaker 1: because he likes to run the football and he's six
- 14:07Speaker 1: ft five, he's two hund forty pounds, and he doesn't
- 14:09Speaker 1: run out of bounds. He doesn't slide, he lowers his shoulder.
- 14:12Speaker 1: He hurdles guys like he did last week at the
- 14:14Speaker 1: forty yard line, where the whole stadium was like, don't
- 14:16Speaker 1: do that. And then he gets up and talks some
- 14:18Speaker 1: smack and goes back to the huddle. I was actually
- 14:21Speaker 1: talking to tight end Dawson Knox this week and he said,
- 14:23Speaker 1: I've tried to incentivize with him the idea of if
- 14:26Speaker 1: you slide in this game, or if you run out
- 14:27Speaker 1: of bounds, I'll take you out to dinner. I'll do
- 14:29Speaker 1: that for you. But he said, Whish comes to shove
- 14:32Speaker 1: on third down, Josh is gonna he's a football player,
- 14:34Speaker 1: he's a competitor. He's gonna want to do that. And
- 14:36Speaker 1: I look at tomorrow's game in this conditions that I say,
- 14:39Speaker 1: there's almost no chance in my mind that Josh doesn't
- 14:42Speaker 1: carry the ball at least ten times. He's done that
- 14:44Speaker 1: five times already. This season, He's gone over seven yards
- 14:47Speaker 1: rushing in four games, and if you look at their
- 14:49Speaker 1: rushing game as a whole, they're the only team in
- 14:51Speaker 1: the National Football He the Buffalo Bills, who average who
- 14:53Speaker 1: had at least a hundred yards in every game running
- 14:55Speaker 1: the football. Josh Allen is a massive part of that.
- 14:58Speaker 1: You take him away, He's thirty six percent of their
- 15:00Speaker 1: production in the run game is because of Josh Allen.
- 15:03Speaker 1: What he can do with his legs. When you think
- 15:05Speaker 1: about ball security and protection, seems to me like he's
- 15:08Speaker 1: gonna keep it a lot himself. And I want to
- 15:10Speaker 1: switch sides quickly to talk about the defensive particularly the
- 15:12Speaker 1: two linebackers outstanding, Tremaine Edmonds and Matt Mulano. Those guys
- 15:16Speaker 1: are working on year five of playing together, and you
- 15:19Speaker 1: can see it in their communication where oftentimes they just
- 15:22Speaker 1: look at each other. They don't say words, but they
- 15:24Speaker 1: know what to do. In fact, I asked Leslie Fraser
- 15:26Speaker 1: about this and he said, oh, there was a good
- 15:28Speaker 1: example in the Jets game. He said, where Matt was
- 15:30Speaker 1: supposed to go, and something happened in the course of
- 15:32Speaker 1: the play. The two of them exchanged a glance and
- 15:34Speaker 1: then it was Tremaine who went and Matt who filled
- 15:37Speaker 1: Tremaine's duties. He said, you don't have that if it's
- 15:39Speaker 1: Matt with a younger linebacker, Tremaine with a younger linebacker,
- 15:42Speaker 1: two younger linebackers, period. But because they've been together and
- 15:45Speaker 1: started so many games together, it makes a massive difference
- 15:48Speaker 1: for the communication for that football team. Both are playing
- 15:50Speaker 1: at a high level. Mulatto probably playing as well as
- 15:52Speaker 1: any linebacker in the league. Heat seeking missile asked, poor
- 15:56Speaker 1: Mike White and his rib cage. Those guys are gonna
- 15:58Speaker 1: be crucial in this game, because you would expect, just
- 16:00Speaker 1: like of course the Bills, Miami's gonna have to put
- 16:03Speaker 1: the ball in the ground a lot, and those two
- 16:04Speaker 1: guys will hold up in the middle of the Yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 1: we've all been eager to see how the Bills defense
- 16:08Speaker 1: would respond without Von Miller. And if that Jets game
- 16:10Speaker 1: last week was any indication, they are coming, and they
- 16:13Speaker 1: are coming in a hurry. After two a tongue of yeloa,
- 16:15Speaker 1: Mike Giardi, thank you very much. That is the nightcap
- 16:21Speaker 1: of our triple header and the Saturday showdown tomorrow right
- 16:23Speaker 1: here on NFL Network. The Vikings hosting the Cold's Vikings
- 16:26Speaker 1: can clinch NFC North with a win in that game,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and then it's the a f C North rivals, the
- 16:32Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns hosting the Baltimore Ravens. Were expecting to see
- 16:35Speaker 1: Snoop Huntley in that game. Deshaun Watson makes his home debut.
- 16:39Speaker 1: That's at four o'clock Eastern, and then again the night
- 16:42Speaker 1: Saturday Showdown, Pills and Dolphins coverage kicks off on NFL
- 16:46Speaker 1: Game Day Final at one o'clock Easter still to come
- 16:50Speaker 1: here the Titans and the Chargers Sunday right here at
- 16:54Speaker 1: Sophi Stadium. Ryan Tannehill, Justin Herbert, both teams seven and six.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But because Titans play in the a f C South,
- 17:01Speaker 1: they have a pretty firm grasp in the a f
- 17:04Speaker 1: C playoff picture Chargers trying to play their way in.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Who were there for about twenty four hours this weekend
- 17:09Speaker 1: until the Patriots won on Monday night to kick the
- 17:12Speaker 1: Chargers back out. But they'll meet again here at SOFI Stadium. Titans,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you see there the four seed, A couple of games
- 17:19Speaker 1: back of the Baltimore Ravens and Jim Trotter more on
- 17:21Speaker 1: this game. Derrick Henry looking to get back on track
- 17:24Speaker 1: for Tennessee against a Chargers defense that's been pretty inconsistent
- 17:28Speaker 1: against the run. What more can you tell us about
- 17:30Speaker 1: this matchup? Yeah, Ohmar, you don't have to overthink this.
- 17:33Speaker 1: To beat the Times, you have to stop Derrick Henry.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And look, the Chargers had a stress their six consecutive
- 17:39Speaker 1: games where they had given up at least a hundred
- 17:41Speaker 1: and fifty four yards rushing. But last week they held
- 17:44Speaker 1: Miami to nine two, which was their best showing since
- 17:47Speaker 1: Week one, when they gave up only sixty four to
- 17:49Speaker 1: Las Vegas. Now the Titans, Derrick Henry has rushed for
- 17:53Speaker 1: over a hundred yards in six games this year, which
- 17:56Speaker 1: is the most in the NFL. He went over a
- 17:58Speaker 1: hundred last week, finally getting back on track in that way.
- 18:01Speaker 1: But for the Chargers, they have got to shut him down.
- 18:03Speaker 1: No secret there on the lip side. For the Titans defensively,
- 18:08Speaker 1: they have got to stop this this Los Angeles passing game.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Almost said San Diego, being a San Diego resident, but
- 18:14Speaker 1: they have got to stop this Charger passing game. In
- 18:16Speaker 1: the past two weeks, Tennessee's past defense has given up
- 18:19Speaker 1: three touchdown passes and over three sixty yards passing. Last week,
- 18:25Speaker 1: the Chargers through the ball fifty one time, So Tennessee
- 18:30Speaker 1: is gonna have to step up there and make plays.
- 18:31Speaker 1: They're One of the things that could benefit them is
- 18:33Speaker 1: that Denico Autrey is expected to play at this point.
- 18:36Speaker 1: He's missed the past three games with a knee injury,
- 18:39Speaker 1: but he's practiced this week and the hope is that
- 18:41Speaker 1: he will play. Here's the thing to watch out for,
- 18:44Speaker 1: Omar the past two weeks, the past quarterbacks the past
- 18:47Speaker 1: two weeks, the quarterbacks that um the Titans have faced
- 18:51Speaker 1: have both gone on to be Player of the Week
- 18:53Speaker 1: the following week. So for Tennessee, that tells you where
- 18:56Speaker 1: their focus is going to be. They've got to shut
- 18:58Speaker 1: down Justin Herbert, who has the ability to put up
- 19:00Speaker 1: big numbers. Obviously, Yeah, with Derrick Henry. Three of his
- 19:03Speaker 1: last four games when he's faced a rushing defense that's
- 19:06Speaker 1: in the bottom five in the NFL, he's gone for
- 19:08Speaker 1: more than two hundred yards, so certainly takes advantage. And
- 19:11Speaker 1: the Chargers certainly in the bottom five in rush defense.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So that'll be a matchup certainly to watch out for.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Jim Trotter, thank you very much. Still to come here
- 19:19Speaker 1: on NFL Now the Baltimore Ravens going against DeShawn Watson
- 19:24Speaker 1: and the Cleveland Browns. Much more on that matchup, as
- 19:27Speaker 1: well as Matt Ryan taking on the Vikings in a
- 19:29Speaker 1: Saturday showdown. That's next on NFL Now at Home. Alright,
- 19:40Speaker 1: no Lamar Jackson for tomorrow between the Ravens and the Browns.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Tyler Huntley expected as Stark start, with John Harbon not
- 19:47Speaker 1: officially naming a starter ahead of that matchup. That is
- 19:50Speaker 1: game number two, part of our Triple Leader right here
- 19:52Speaker 1: on NFL Network and NFL Plus for much more on
- 19:55Speaker 1: this game, we welcome in our Steve White and Stacy
- 19:58Speaker 1: Dale's will be working the sidelines for the broadcast tomorrow afternoon.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Steve Stacy take it away, Wellmark, first off, I mean
- 20:07Speaker 1: their sound check is going on here, so it's very loud. Okay,
- 20:09Speaker 1: we're just rocking out of the outfield. I mean, why
- 20:12Speaker 1: who else would you want to rock out for the Yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 1: that's that's definitely an Omar and our producer Jeff collects genre. Look,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know, so much of the game is gonna be
- 20:22Speaker 1: out the quarterback situation here with Cleveland and Baltimore, but safety.
- 20:25Speaker 1: The identities of both these teams is the running game.
- 20:29Speaker 1: With Cleveland it's Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb. But since
- 20:32Speaker 1: DeShawn Watson has taken over a quarterback, they have not
- 20:35Speaker 1: gotten the traction on the ground that they were earlier
- 20:38Speaker 1: in the season. Some of it's related to injuries on
- 20:40Speaker 1: the offensive line, but of talking to people with the
- 20:43Speaker 1: brown some of it is the change to the Shawn
- 20:45Speaker 1: Watson and playing more out of the shotgun and the
- 20:47Speaker 1: pist of formation where is Joe by Jacoby Brissette was
- 20:50Speaker 1: playing under center, And then they're they're gonna try to
- 20:53Speaker 1: get things going in that run game against one of
- 20:55Speaker 1: the best run defenses in the NFL and the Baltimore
- 20:57Speaker 1: Ravens station. So it's gonna be a challenge. As Kevin Stefanski,
- 21:00Speaker 1: the head coach of the Browns, did tell us, they've
- 21:03Speaker 1: got to do something in the running game to get
- 21:05Speaker 1: their play active pass game going and to get points
- 21:07Speaker 1: on the board. The questions, Steve, if these Ravens haven't
- 21:09Speaker 1: given up a one hundred yard rusher this season and
- 21:12Speaker 1: back the last time they did, how about one? It
- 21:14Speaker 1: was Delvin Cook in week nine? Are you kidding me? Second?
- 21:17Speaker 1: To just the San Francisco forty Niners. And by the way,
- 21:20Speaker 1: with Nick Chubb, they've kept him under a hundred and
- 21:23Speaker 1: six straight games eight of nine in his career, so
- 21:26Speaker 1: it's kind of their remo. Defensively, Roquan Smith has been
- 21:29Speaker 1: a splendid addition to that defense. But j K. Dobbins right,
- 21:34Speaker 1: coming back last week and their Steelers victory for the
- 21:37Speaker 1: first time really since Week six because of that nee
- 21:40Speaker 1: procedure to go fifteen carries, a hundred and twenty on
- 21:43Speaker 1: the ground and then a touchdown in that game, and
- 21:45Speaker 1: he's still not at the form he wants to be.
- 21:48Speaker 1: We're gonna look forward to talking to him in those
- 21:50Speaker 1: production meetings shortly, but they're gonna want to feed him
- 21:53Speaker 1: often in this game with Tyler Huntley at quarterback. And
- 21:56Speaker 1: when I talked to de Marcus Robinson really right now
- 21:59Speaker 1: their best wide receiver outside of Mark Andrew's there tight end,
- 22:03Speaker 1: he said, what d K what j K Dobbins? Excuse
- 22:06Speaker 1: me brings to the field that the field got me,
- 22:08Speaker 1: the music, the enthusiasm he has brought and infused a
- 22:13Speaker 1: new energy into this offense because of his return last week,
- 22:16Speaker 1: and so I can't wait to see, especially if we
- 22:19Speaker 1: have some weather, We're ready for it. Omar, but hey, Steve,
- 22:23Speaker 1: I don't know, man, I mean you got the you
- 22:25Speaker 1: got the the good old muffler. Omar has got one
- 22:28Speaker 1: of these two, I think, because you know we're not
- 22:29Speaker 1: cold weather guys live in l A. But quickly we're
- 22:32Speaker 1: talking about the run game. J K. Dobbins not having
- 22:35Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson in there to help open up the field
- 22:38Speaker 1: for the run game. That says something about what's going
- 22:40Speaker 1: on with the Ravens offensive line. Getting back to Cleveland.
- 22:43Speaker 1: The run game, DeShawn Watson could really factor into that
- 22:46Speaker 1: because you know how effective he is in the run game.
- 22:49Speaker 1: They're gonna need him to make some places they have
- 22:50Speaker 1: an opportunity to pull the old set he gets the Ravens. Omar,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you if the Ravens just get something from their receivers.
- 22:56Speaker 1: They haven't had a receiving touchdown in their last ten games,
- 22:59Speaker 1: so any effort there from them could go a long
- 23:02Speaker 1: way against that Cleveland defense. Steve Stacy, thank you both
- 23:05Speaker 1: very much. That. Of course, game number two in our
- 23:07Speaker 1: triple header, Game one picking off with Matt Ryan and
- 23:10Speaker 1: the Colts facing off against Kirk Cousins and the Vikings.
- 23:14Speaker 1: This kicks off our triple header at one o'clock Eastern.
- 23:18Speaker 1: For much more on that matchup, we welcome back our
- 23:20Speaker 1: Tom Pella, Sero and Tom. For the second week in
- 23:23Speaker 1: a row, Vikings have a chance to wrap up the
- 23:25Speaker 1: NFC North with a win, really the third week in
- 23:30Speaker 1: a row. If you go back to the Lions, manage
- 23:32Speaker 1: to get a victory, keep this thing alive two weeks ago.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Then this past weekend, of course, the Vikings go to Detroit,
- 23:37Speaker 1: the Lions get a big win in which the Vikings
- 23:39Speaker 1: defense really struggled in that game. So another attempt this
- 23:42Speaker 1: weekend and it's pretty straightforward. Beat the Colts or had
- 23:46Speaker 1: the Lions loose to the Jets, and Zach Wilson and
- 23:48Speaker 1: the Vikings will be your NFC North champions. Now I
- 23:51Speaker 1: mentioned that defense struggling last week, they had some big
- 23:54Speaker 1: time coverage breakdowns, including on Jamison Williams touchdown. Well, big
- 23:57Speaker 1: news for them. Harrison Smith, their star safety, back from
- 24:00Speaker 1: his neck injury. He is off the injury report and
- 24:03Speaker 1: will be in the lineup, but on the flip side
- 24:04Speaker 1: on offense for the Vikings, left tackle Christian dey Saw
- 24:08Speaker 1: also back after his second stint in concussion protocol. When
- 24:11Speaker 1: the best young offensive lineman in the NFL, it's gonna
- 24:14Speaker 1: change the way that they're able to call plays. Knowing
- 24:16Speaker 1: that Derrissaw should be able to operate over there on
- 24:19Speaker 1: an island. Of course, that also buys more time for
- 24:21Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson to get down the field. Jefferson, closing on
- 24:24Speaker 1: Randy Moss's single season receiving yards record, also has a
- 24:28Speaker 1: shot to take down Calvin Johnson's NFL single season receiving
- 24:32Speaker 1: yards record. Well, they're going up against a Colts defense
- 24:35Speaker 1: this week that's been one of the NFL's best this
- 24:36Speaker 1: season against the past. You've obviously got a very talented
- 24:39Speaker 1: longtime man quarter in Stephon Gilmore continues to play at
- 24:43Speaker 1: a high level of interesting to see the chess match
- 24:45Speaker 1: here and how Gus Bradley tries to defend a guy
- 24:48Speaker 1: who basically no one's had any success defending no Mark.
- 24:50Speaker 1: When we've watched Justin Jefferson all season long, He's impressive
- 24:53Speaker 1: as there is. But when you see those numbers ninety
- 24:56Speaker 1: nine catches fift hundred yards with four games left to play,
- 24:59Speaker 1: who puts in perspective, how great he's been just like
- 25:02Speaker 1: Tom Pella sero always great, Thank you very much. Meanwhile,
- 25:06Speaker 1: another game we think is going to be great this weekend.
- 25:09Speaker 1: You have the Jaguars hosting that Dallas Cowboys. Dallas seems
- 25:13Speaker 1: like they are rounding into playoff form, playing their best
- 25:16Speaker 1: ball as we head into mid December. That Jaguars are
- 25:21Speaker 1: playing for their playoff lives. And Doug Peterson knows it. Listen,
- 25:27Speaker 1: We're we're playing for our lives. You know, we're playing
- 25:30Speaker 1: to stay alive, you know. And and um, this this
- 25:33Speaker 1: is gonna be a great atmosphere. I you know, I
- 25:37Speaker 1: can't stress it enough. I mean, if you don't get
- 25:39Speaker 1: up for these games, you know, um, against good opponents,
- 25:42Speaker 1: you know, might might need to think about doing something else.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I mean, as coaches and players. But these are these
- 25:46Speaker 1: are great, great games to coach in, great games to
- 25:49Speaker 1: play in. And I really don't think it's gonna take
- 25:51Speaker 1: a whole lot to keep the energy up in this one. Hey,
- 25:55Speaker 1: we've been talking about it all day. Our social team
- 25:57Speaker 1: in on the action as well. Saturday Showdown tomorrow Colts
- 26:02Speaker 1: Vikings to set things off, and it's the Ravens and
- 26:04Speaker 1: the Browns and the nightcap, the Dolphins and the Bills.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Vikings and the Bills looking to clinch playoff spots. Of course,
- 26:12Speaker 1: Josh Allen a star on the field and in fantasy football.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Here's our fantasy live through with more stars you should
- 26:19Speaker 1: be looking out for this weekend and his fantasy playoff times.
- 26:24Speaker 1: That means all of these matchups means so much more.
- 26:26Speaker 1: But we have three that we're looking at. Those are
- 26:28Speaker 1: the Saturday games that you can see of course here
- 26:30Speaker 1: on NFL Networks. So if we're talking about players that
- 26:33Speaker 1: we like from the Saturday matchup, floyal, let's start with you.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Who's somebody you have your eye on? No surprise, but
- 26:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna go at Stefon Diggs here. He has been
- 26:40Speaker 1: playing great. He's the wide receiver one on this season,
- 26:43Speaker 1: but he gets a good matchup against the Dolphins secondary
- 26:45Speaker 1: that has allowed a lot of production this year, but
- 26:48Speaker 1: they've been good at limiting deep passes, so maybe they
- 26:50Speaker 1: could take Gabe Davis out, which just means more volume
- 26:53Speaker 1: for Stefon Diggs. Well, I'm looking at another receiver, but
- 26:56Speaker 1: he's going to be playing inside, which is a little
- 26:58Speaker 1: bit more helpful in my opinion. I have justin Jefferson.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I know we had a monster game last week against
- 27:03Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions. It's not gonna be two twenty three
- 27:06Speaker 1: yards this time, but I think something more like seven
- 27:08Speaker 1: nine a touchdown. He's your wide receiver number two for me.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I think it's an interesting one because the Colts secondary
- 27:14Speaker 1: is a little bit more difficult than the Lions secondary,
- 27:17Speaker 1: but still massive game from Justin Jefferson. You know what,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I'm looking at quarterback Matt Ryan, who normally you wouldn't
- 27:24Speaker 1: think about starting Matt Ryan. But if you have a
- 27:25Speaker 1: situation where Lamar Jackson was your quarterback for the longest
- 27:28Speaker 1: time and you've been streaming over the last couple of weeks,
- 27:30Speaker 1: I would give a consideration for Matt Ryan because he's
- 27:33Speaker 1: had three good games this year where he's played well,
- 27:36Speaker 1: and he's got a great matchup against the Minnesota Vikings,
- 27:39Speaker 1: who have allowed the most yards passing per game this
- 27:42Speaker 1: season over the last month. They've also been extremely generous
- 27:46Speaker 1: to opposing quarterback. So there's just it's not great, but
- 27:49Speaker 1: it's your streaming options. Well. I don't want to feel
- 27:51Speaker 1: left out, so I'll also talk about somebody in the
- 27:53Speaker 1: Colts Vikings game, and that's Jonathan Taylor, who has been
- 27:55Speaker 1: sort of so so for most of a year. But
- 27:57Speaker 1: this is a really good matchup against the Vikings defense
- 27:59Speaker 1: that has struggled against running backs on top of it
- 28:02Speaker 1: recently giving up a lot of receiving yards to the edition.
- 28:05Speaker 1: So maybe in order to help out Matt Ryan a
- 28:07Speaker 1: little bit, you set them up with some easy dump offs.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Either way you load up, you're running back to with touches.
- 28:11Speaker 1: It's a good opportunity for the Colts to win and
- 28:13Speaker 1: for us to get some fantasy points. You want great
- 28:15Speaker 1: information like that and a whole lot of fun as well,
- 28:18Speaker 1: be sure to check out NFL Fantasy Live each and
- 28:20Speaker 1: every weeknight here on NFL Network. Mac Jones may not
- 28:24Speaker 1: be your favorite fantasy football quarterback, but he does have
- 28:26Speaker 1: the Patriots at seven and six and right now in
- 28:29Speaker 1: the a f C playoff picture. After that win over
- 28:32Speaker 1: the Cardinals on Monday, they're getting ready to place the
- 28:34Speaker 1: Raiders to face the Raiders on Sunday. For much more
- 28:38Speaker 1: on that matchup, let's welcome in our p F analyst
- 28:41Speaker 1: Brad Spielberger. PF NFL analysts and podcaster Brad will start
- 28:46Speaker 1: with those new England Patriots and that defense. Of course,
- 28:50Speaker 1: Josh uch the reigning a f C Defensive Player of
- 28:53Speaker 1: the Week, as well as Matthew Judean maybe the most
- 28:56Speaker 1: underrated pass rushing due in the NFL this year. It
- 28:59Speaker 1: certainly might be. They've been taking games over of late,
- 29:01Speaker 1: and since Week five, Judan and Ucci at ten and
- 29:04Speaker 1: a half in ten secs respectively, first and second in
- 29:06Speaker 1: the NFL. There twenty and a half combined sack since
- 29:09Speaker 1: Week five is more than half of NFL teams over
- 29:11Speaker 1: that span, and it's not just about sex, which can
- 29:14Speaker 1: be unstable. Huci pass USh winning rate is third in
- 29:17Speaker 1: the NFL and it's twenty three and a half. Quarterback
- 29:20Speaker 1: pressure rate is first over that stretch and Judean is
- 29:22Speaker 1: ninth in pressure rate. So they're winning their matchups and
- 29:25Speaker 1: consistently getting after the quarterback on a down to down basis,
- 29:28Speaker 1: all without Christian Barmore, the second year in tior defender
- 29:31Speaker 1: who was a force last year. We also have to
- 29:33Speaker 1: give some props to an under the radar head coach
- 29:35Speaker 1: by the name of Bill Belichick. Patriots are running the
- 29:38Speaker 1: sixth highest rate of stunts in the NFL this year,
- 29:40Speaker 1: but only blitzing at the twentieth highest rate, So they're
- 29:43Speaker 1: creating confusion for opposing offensive lines getting home without having
- 29:46Speaker 1: to bring an extra rusher. Yeah, they've been suffocating. Is
- 29:49Speaker 1: that was definitely on display on Monday Night. Meanwhile, quarterback
- 29:52Speaker 1: who has been as polarizing as there is in the
- 29:55Speaker 1: NFL this year, Justin Herbert, perhaps hasn't had the statistical
- 29:59Speaker 1: success as we've seen in years past, but what have
- 30:01Speaker 1: you seen from him in two His value of this
- 30:04Speaker 1: team is become underrated. And I think a key to
- 30:07Speaker 1: quarterback play that we sometimes don't notice and the great
- 30:10Speaker 1: ones do it very well is not just you know,
- 30:12Speaker 1: extending the upside but also limiting the downside. So you know, yes,
- 30:16Speaker 1: he's top ten in passing yards and touchdowns on throws
- 30:18Speaker 1: ten plus yards down field for the last two seasons.
- 30:20Speaker 1: He's also incredible taking care of the football with our
- 30:23Speaker 1: lowest turnover worthy play rate over the last two seasons,
- 30:26Speaker 1: that just one and a half percent, and Patrick Mahomes
- 30:28Speaker 1: and Tom Brady trail him and that stands, So that
- 30:30Speaker 1: just shows how important that is. He's also the fourth
- 30:33Speaker 1: lowest rate of sacks per dropbacks when pressured, so he's
- 30:37Speaker 1: had to minders and the outfitsive line this year. He's
- 30:39Speaker 1: had a dance around back there, and he avoids sacks,
- 30:42Speaker 1: avoids those negative plays, which can be just as important
- 30:45Speaker 1: as making those splash highlights social media plays. He's also
- 30:49Speaker 1: no gotta throw that social media in their on Justin Herbert.
- 30:54Speaker 1: That was a good one. Meanwhile, the Lions and the
- 30:56Speaker 1: Jets a huge showdown Mike White Zack Wilson dominated the
- 30:59Speaker 1: headlines today. But there is another underrated storyline you're watching
- 31:03Speaker 1: on this one. Tell us about that one. I mean,
- 31:06Speaker 1: Sauce Gardner is not only the best rookie cornerback in
- 31:08Speaker 1: the NFL, he might already be the best cornerback in
- 31:11Speaker 1: the entire league. So one challenge of evaluating cornerback play,
- 31:14Speaker 1: you know, we know this as well as anyone is
- 31:16Speaker 1: the responsibility for every guy can be very different with
- 31:19Speaker 1: her zone or man or what they're asked to do pass.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Gardner is not only our highest graded corner in the NFL,
- 31:24Speaker 1: but a top ten grade when lined up in press
- 31:26Speaker 1: coverage over number one receivers, allowing a forty four percent
- 31:29Speaker 1: completion percentage which is top ten, and contesting of targets
- 31:34Speaker 1: into his coverage area on press coverage snaps, which is
- 31:37Speaker 1: also top ten. Added into the mix two, he is
- 31:40Speaker 1: the thirtieth best run defense grade. He does everything as
- 31:42Speaker 1: a number one corner level On the other side of
- 31:44Speaker 1: the football, you got Aiden Hutchinson didn't quite burst out
- 31:47Speaker 1: of the NFL scene as quickly as Gardner, though he
- 31:50Speaker 1: does have two interceptions, which is as many as Sauce,
- 31:52Speaker 1: but all jokes aside, He's had multiple quarterback pressures in
- 31:55Speaker 1: every single game this year but one, and again talking
- 31:58Speaker 1: about responsibilities, Detroit has had fewer than five hundred snaps
- 32:02Speaker 1: from Romeo A. Kara, Josh Pescal and Charles As combined
- 32:06Speaker 1: their second through fourth edge rusher, So he's getting a
- 32:08Speaker 1: lot of attention, a lot of chip help from posing
- 32:10Speaker 1: offensive lines, and he's still been super productive. A key
- 32:13Speaker 1: here for this weekend as well. Zack Wilson to the
- 32:16Speaker 1: three point one second average time to throw, which is
- 32:19Speaker 1: the third slowest in the NFL, and Mike White was
- 32:22Speaker 1: a two and a half seconds, the sixth fastest, so
- 32:24Speaker 1: he's gonna hold on the ball for a long time.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Hutchinson should have more time to get home and add
- 32:28Speaker 1: some more sex trying to get ten in his rookie season. Yeah,
- 32:31Speaker 1: both of those players candidates for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Also key reasons why Lions Jets in December is a
- 32:39Speaker 1: matchup featuring a couple of potential playoff teams, certainly king
- 32:43Speaker 1: those turnarounds for those teams. Brad Spielberger always great. For
- 32:47Speaker 1: much more on his analysis, go to PF dot com
