- 0:03Speaker 1: Joining us here today, really, really good energy, good vibes
- 0:05Speaker 1: here as we invite our guests to join us.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Yes, so we have August at the Esplanade Riverfront. We
- 0:14Speaker 2: got people like Alicia DC performing as well. And then
- 0:18Speaker 2: when I saw our guest's name on the list, I went, oh.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Oh, yay, because 2 years ago on Channel A, I
- 0:25Speaker 2: don't know why they got me of all people to
- 0:28Speaker 2: perform a Chinese New Year song with her. So she
- 0:30Speaker 2: was on the vocals with, with Desmond, and when I
- 0:33Speaker 2: first met her, she had bright striking orange hair. I
- 0:38Speaker 2: even said, Hey, you are the Wendy's logo.
- 0:43Speaker 2: But you know what, she's gone on to do all
- 0:44Speaker 2: sorts of music, and I think when it comes to
- 0:46Speaker 2: looking good and being very in the know of fashion,
- 0:50Speaker 2: she has that covered herself. Let's say hello to Phyllis
- 0:53Speaker 2: in the studio.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Hey, good morning. I'm so happy to be here. Great.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I mean, you look great for 9:22 a.m. in the morning.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Like you, you are a night owl, right? So did
- 1:06Speaker 1: it take a lot of willpower to come in here
- 1:08Speaker 1: this morning, this early? Well, I think it took 3
- 1:12Speaker 1: coffees already.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I don't know why,
- 1:15Speaker 2: but I feel as a K-pop stars.
- 1:19Speaker 1: No, I have to say, like, I mean, for anyone
- 1:21Speaker 1: who follows you on socials, you know, they will have
- 1:24Speaker 1: this impression that you are someone that really knows how
- 1:27Speaker 1: you want to brand yourself in terms of your image,
- 1:29Speaker 1: your styling and everything, like, do you have 80% of
- 1:33Speaker 1: say in how you style yourself? 100% 100%. That's great.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And what are your biggest inspirations when it comes to your,
- 1:41Speaker 1: your image?
- 1:43Speaker 1: Who are some of your biggest inspirations? Actually, I just
- 1:48Speaker 1: look at a lot of baddies. Actually there's a lot
- 1:55Speaker 1: of inspo there. I have to admit like hair, makeup,
- 1:58Speaker 1: like outfit, Xiaohongshu is where everything where it's,
- 2:02Speaker 2: you've released a few singles this year and last year
- 2:05Speaker 2: as well, and I see all your artist.
- 2:07Speaker 2: And all that, it's very different. Every new single, different look,
- 2:11Speaker 2: different hair color, different makeup. How do you decide that, like, OK,
- 2:15Speaker 2: for this single, I'm going to give it this attitude
- 2:17Speaker 2: and look a certain way. Walk us through the whole, um,
- 2:21Speaker 2: the planning process, yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 1: The main deciding factor is like um the song that
- 2:27Speaker 1: was return. So usually when I write a song, I
- 2:30Speaker 1: have an image in my head like um.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Example for skin shine is a fairy in the forest.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So I will style myself based on that, and I
- 2:41Speaker 1: really enjoy like doing the creative direction for these shows
- 2:45Speaker 1: as well. So you, you feel like because you have
- 2:49Speaker 1: a 100% say in it, it should completely reflect like
- 2:52Speaker 1: what the song means, right? Like, so you, you don't,
- 2:56Speaker 1: what if people tell you like, hey, Phyllis, I don't
- 2:57Speaker 1: think that this will work. What would you, has that
- 2:59Speaker 1: ever happened before?
- 3:01Speaker 1: No, no one has, um, dared to say that sometimes
- 3:09Speaker 1: when you have too many people in a team, for example,
- 3:11Speaker 1: they may want to give their opinions and suggestions,
- 3:14Speaker 2: right? Yeah, but at least she's in control. She's 100% whatsoever.
- 3:18Speaker 2: But OK, Phyllis, people know you from Battle of the Bskar.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I mean if they
- 3:21Speaker 2: Follow media competitions, but why don't you tell us how
- 3:25Speaker 2: do you get your start in music before even taking
- 3:29Speaker 2: part in Battle of the Bhaskar, because I, I've seen
- 3:31Speaker 2: your lives. I mean, we, we follow each other on
- 3:33Speaker 2: Instagram and I see you performing here and there, and
- 3:35Speaker 2: once in a request for songs that you can't sing
- 3:37Speaker 2: like Daro Sandstorm, you know, just,
- 3:38Speaker 1: just being a troll,
- 3:40Speaker 2: being a troll. So tell us more about that.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I started doing music since I was 4.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I started with vocal and classical piano lessons, yeah, Asian,
- 3:51Speaker 1: Asian parenting, and then after that, um, me and my
- 3:55Speaker 1: dad often watch X Factor, so I enjoy like judging people.
- 4:03Speaker 2: That one must turn the chairs. No, no, no, that's
- 4:04Speaker 2: the one that got the golden buzzer and the buzzes
- 4:07Speaker 2: and all. Simon Cowell, yeah,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I think, yeah, that's, yeah, and from then on I
- 4:13Speaker 1: just like um pick out what techniques I like to
- 4:16Speaker 1: implement music and yeah, I gradually started um wanting to
- 4:22Speaker 1: perform because.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Um, because you loved it, I'm guessing like you really
- 4:29Speaker 1: enjoyed it a lot of compliments. I see. OK. OK.
- 4:33Speaker 1: When we come back, I mean speaking of performances, we
- 4:35Speaker 1: are gonna see you very soon live on stage. So
- 4:38Speaker 1: we'll talk about what's happening at Fresh Music Live in
- 4:40Speaker 1: exactly 8 days actually.
- 4:44Speaker 2: OK, we'll find out more about music style
- 4:45Speaker 1: with Animal right here on 987, 1 of the most
- 4:48Speaker 1: widely requested songs.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Especially while you're on the way to school recently. Yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 2: and in our studio right now, our special guest who
- 4:56Speaker 2: looks like she can be a part of Cat's Eye. Right, yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 2: for sure. Exactly. I wonder. We got Phyllis in the
- 5:01Speaker 2: studio who's performing for our Fresh Music Live proudly brought
- 5:03Speaker 2: to you by Indigo and 987, 28th of August over
- 5:07Speaker 2: at the Esplanade Riverfront Stage. It's absolutely free. So go early.
- 5:11Speaker 2: At a good spot and embrace Singapore-made music. The likes
- 5:15Speaker 2: of Cesari, Alicia DC will be performing as well.
- 5:17Speaker 1: We're just um catching up with her on TikTok Live
- 5:19Speaker 1: as well earlier about what to expect during the performance
- 5:22Speaker 1: and seeing how you are surrounded by a mixture of
- 5:25Speaker 1: up and coming names and also like veterans in the
- 5:27Speaker 1: music industry. Who has locally, who has inspired you the
- 5:31Speaker 1: most or given you the most like motivation to do
- 5:34Speaker 1: what you do?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Um
- 5:38Speaker 1: Anyone in the local scene, for example, my close friend Alvin,
- 5:45Speaker 1: whom I was with the skar, yeah, he's really been
- 5:50Speaker 1: super supportive and like
- 5:53Speaker 1: Because I, I don't really know many musicians actually, and
- 5:57Speaker 1: he helped me reach out to some of his friends
- 5:59Speaker 1: to help out at um the Esplanade show to connect
- 6:04Speaker 1: and stuff and help you out.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So that's in terms of fashion inspiration aside from when
- 6:14Speaker 2: you were when you were younger, did you, did you
- 6:16Speaker 2: study fashion by any
- 6:17Speaker 2: chance?
- 6:18Speaker 1: No, I didn't.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Wow, I really don't know where I get the info from.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Maybe it's just from her brain. It's from herself. It's
- 6:27Speaker 1: always been there.
- 6:29Speaker 1: You naturally an interest, right, in general. I was young
- 6:32Speaker 1: I like dressing up. OK, cute. Well, let's talk about
- 6:35Speaker 1: what to expect on the show itself. Like what can
- 6:38Speaker 1: we expect on stage?
- 6:40Speaker 1: Um,
- 6:43Speaker 1: On stage, yeah, what can we, what can we see,
- 6:45Speaker 1: what can we experience?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Would it be a dance break or a musician or? Oh,
- 6:53Speaker 1: dance. Is it a surprise? No, it's not a surprise. Um, yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 1: there's a live drummer and a guitarist and
- 7:02Speaker 1: I hope I'll be dancing more.
- 7:06Speaker 1: OK, so it's gonna be like an all-rounder kind of
- 7:08Speaker 1: performance to expect. OK.
- 7:10Speaker 2: OK, and how it's been really hot and humid here
- 7:13Speaker 2: in Singapore the last few days, I mean, I'm sure
- 7:15Speaker 2: you got outfit planned already. Yes, yes. Do you perspire
- 7:19Speaker 2: easily I, I don't. Oh, great. So I guess you
- 7:22Speaker 2: can wear anything you want to wear and you'll be fine. Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Long sleeve, short sleeve. You want to reveal yet or
- 7:27Speaker 2: don't want to say too much.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Way more complex than long sleeve or short sleeve, OK,
- 7:31Speaker 1: for our outfits. It's not so
- 7:34Speaker 1: straightforward. Hello.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I'm, I'm a simple man.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Anyway, um, in case our followers and listeners don't know
- 7:41Speaker 1: you just yet and they're just getting to know you,
