- 0:01What a couple weeks has been a couple weeks since we met here
- 0:04on a Friday night. Feels like two years.
- 0:08Well, we're still in second Samuel.
- 0:09Nothing has changed. We're still in that Infamous
- 0:12chapter of second Samuel. So let's go there together and
- 0:15second Samuel in Chapter 11. Second Samuel, 11.
- 0:33And Lord, we do ask that you would bless this time in your
- 0:35word and that there would be a sense of your nearness and our
- 0:38hearts would come alive a fresh in you.
- 0:42Oh Lord. We are in continual need of your
- 0:45Restorative mercies and we pray that you would restore our
- 0:48passion for you. And that you would take it to
- 0:51new heights. Lord, you would open up our
- 0:54appetite again, for righteousness, for wisdom, for
- 0:59the knowledge of our God. And so Lord, may this be a time
- 1:03where we sense the leading of the Holy Spirit?
- 1:05Even now, as we come to this word, we pray that you would
- 1:08speak. So specifically into each of our
- 1:11lives. And so Lord, we just pray that
- 1:13you would shatter all distraction.
- 1:15All unbelief, anything that would be an obstacle to your
- 1:19word, having its way in our very lives.
- 1:22We trust in you Lord, we thank you for a house on a Friday
- 1:26night that is eager to be in your presence.
- 1:28We bless you for that in Jesus name.
- 1:30Amen. The final words of our last
- 1:35Bible study, which was about three weeks ago, Were the
- 1:40dramatic heart-stopping words of a woman named Bathsheba who
- 1:46declared very simply. I am pregnant.
- 1:52Now, usually, that news is a company by joy and excitement,
- 1:55but not in this case. This woman who gave this report,
- 2:00gave it to not her husband, but to another man, and we know from
- 2:06our study in the beginning of second, Samuel, 11 to that man
- 2:09was King David. The nation's leader, the nation
- 2:14psalmist, the man after God's heart.
- 2:19And why is David receiving the news of uriah's wife's
- 2:24pregnancy? And the answer is very simple
- 2:28because he is the father Undeniably he is the father of
- 2:34this child. And when you think about that
- 2:36alone, you realize that the evolvement of these events is
- 2:42really a picture of house in evolves in our lives.
- 2:46You see, this was just a secret night of passion between two
- 2:50people and now it is morphed into a scandal that could easily
- 2:55make national news and put so many people to shame.
- 3:00And sin, the DNA of our iniquity.
- 3:05When it is conceived, does not stay in that embryo stage, it
- 3:11will grow, it will continue to grow and the direction of its
- 3:16growth is domination. It wants to dominate your life.
- 3:20It does not just want to stay in a nice little corner where you
- 3:22can visit it from time to time. It wants to own the house and
- 3:27from there it also wants to bring as much destruction as
- 3:31possible in your life. James tells us that When sin is
- 3:35Sieve, that doesn't stay there. It wants to bring forth death.
- 3:40And if it's not dealt with early on, you would be amazed to know
- 3:45what once in can do to a life, what it can do to a marriage,
- 3:50what it can do to your finances, what it can do to your body, how
- 3:52we can prematurely bring death and Untold measures this is why
- 3:58God put this in our Bible. So that what we see in David's
- 4:01life at this point, would burn in our memory so that we would
- 4:04never ever, ever for a moment. Think that we are impervious to.
- 4:09^ sin, scripture warns us if anyone thinks he stands.
- 4:14Now pause, if you're in this place sitting excited because
- 4:18you realize you have a desire to be here on a Friday night, look
- 4:22how holy you are. Look how look all close.
- 4:24You are to the Lord. The Bible says, if you think you
- 4:26stand, let that person take heed.
- 4:29Lest he falls in other words, when you're doing just right,
- 4:34that's when you should be the most cautious and David, Really
- 4:40did not take heed and we're going to see what he's going to
- 4:43do with this news because you and I heard a few Bible studies
- 4:46ago that there are only only only two options when any of us
- 4:50are caught in any transgression. Do you remember those two
- 4:53options? To they both start with the
- 4:59letter c that helps. Confess it confess it.
- 5:04Yes. What's the other one conceal it
- 5:07very good. Those are really the only two
- 5:09options that you and I have, when we are in a pit, we either
- 5:13confess and along confess, repent of that sin or we conceal
- 5:18and oftentimes continue. In that sin.
- 5:22David has those two choices when this report comes to his front
- 5:25step. And unfortunately, he will
- 5:27choose the latter. He will choose to conceal it.
- 5:32And because he will conceal it. The rest of this chapter is
- 5:37going to explain what will happen.
- 5:38Here's the thing, the reason why we are so tempted to be
- 5:43magnetized towards concealing, our sin is because the path of
- 5:47concealment seems to promise the least pain.
- 5:53Right. The least pain of Shame of
- 5:55hurting others of hurting our ministries of hurting our
- 5:59reputation. That's why we concealed, there
- 6:01is a false promise of an easier way of Escape.
- 6:06When we choose to hide and put our sin in the dark instead of
- 6:11coming clean before the Lord and before people that need to know
- 6:14about that sin and say I need to, I need to turn, I need the
- 6:17Lord to help me. Can you help me?
- 6:20David's not going to do that. And what we're going to see is
- 6:24the outcome of his concealment, it's going to really be a study
- 6:26of the devastation that comes when you and I choose to not do
- 6:31it God's way when it comes even to our failures.
- 6:34And again, let me say this, I hope that the imagery that will
- 6:37be brought before you today will be something that you will hold
- 6:41on to. So that you would never ever
- 6:43ever trust in human wisdom when it comes to your sanctification.
- 6:48I thought we were going to finish this chapter, there's
- 6:50just no way unless we just really do an injustice to this
- 6:53text. So here's what I'm going to do.
- 6:55I'm going to read from verse 6, down to verse 13, you're going
- 6:59to follow with me in your Bible and then I'm going to ask you
- 7:02what stands out to you in our part. 2 of second, Samuel 11.
- 7:07And let's see, where the spirit leads us.
- 7:09Remember the last three words? That drop the curtain on our
- 7:13last Bible. Study was I am pregnant.
- 7:19Now we come to verse 6. So David sent word to joab.
- 7:24Send me Uriah the hittite and job sent Uriah to David and
- 7:31Uriah caned. Him?
- 7:32David asked how job was doing, and how the people were doing
- 7:35and how the war was going. Then David said, to her I ago
- 7:41down to your house and wash your feet.
- 7:44Uriah went out of the King's house and there followed him a
- 7:48present from the King. But Uriah slept at the door of
- 7:52the King's house, with all the Servants of his Lord, and did
- 7:55not go down to his house. When they told David, Uriah did
- 8:00not go down to his house, David said, to Uriah, have you not
- 8:03come from a journey? Why did you not go down to your
- 8:07house? Your eyes said to David, The
- 8:11Arc, and Israel, and Judah, dwell in booths, and my Lord
- 8:15Zhao have in the Servants of my Lord are camping in the open
- 8:17field, shall I then? Go to my house to eat and to
- 8:21drink and to lie with my wife, as you live and as your soul
- 8:26lives, I will not do this thing. Then David said to Uriah remain
- 8:32here today also. And tomorrow, I'll send you back
- 8:37So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next and David
- 8:40invited him and he ate in his presence and drank so that he
- 8:43made him drunk. And in the evening, he went out
- 8:47to lie on his couch with the Servants of his Lord.
- 8:51But he did not go down to his house.
- 8:56Whoever says, the Bible is boring.
- 8:58Shame on you. How can you say that this is
- 9:01riveting. I've always said, if had the
- 9:03budget, I would totally make either a movie or a series on
- 9:08some kind of channel of the life of David.
- 9:10This is, this is fascinating. Well, what sticks out to you
- 9:12from these verses that we read today, anything?
- 9:21What a contrasting character this menu Riya has to David.
- 9:27He will not budge. I'm committed to the mission
- 9:31that God has called me to you. I'm committed to my God, he he
- 9:35just can't move from that place. Absolutely.
- 9:38Yes. David
- 9:53Again, that's a great observation, the contrast
- 9:55between David and Uriah David stayed home during the war,
- 10:01Uriah would not go home because of that same War.
- 10:05Not amazing. Interesting.
- 10:07Yes. Anything else.
- 10:13Deception. Very good observation.
- 10:17There is deception a lot of it and it is unfortunate.
- 10:21Yes, John got him drunk. It's a very nasty strategy but
- 10:28it's a very common one. Yes.
- 10:32Anything else? He made him get comfortable as
- 10:39much as possible. And comfort did not make him
- 10:45waiver. Yes.
- 10:53Exactly. So David's influence is to bring
- 10:56him to the same level of where he was at at this point in his
- 10:59life. Yes.
- 11:13Yeah, that could be true or is David wanting Uriah to go home
- 11:20to cover his tracks? Oh yeah, interesting.
- 11:25Yes. Very good reputation and Status
- 11:33does not equal character. Absolutely, Very good.
- 11:40Well, shall we continue? Let's look at verse 6.
- 11:43So David sent word to joab. Send me Uriah.
- 11:46The hittite strange request and jobs sent Uriah to David.
- 11:51Now, right there in that verse you, and I have an idea of the
- 11:55great power and the great Authority.
- 11:57That David possess this man, by one word can tell somebody to go
- 12:02tell somebody to come, No questions asked, and no reasons
- 12:06to give any answers to his commands.
- 12:09This is the jurisdiction. This is the kind of position
- 12:13that David possess and it was granted by God.
- 12:16In fact, you're going to realize very soon that David had such
- 12:20overwhelming Authority that by the word of his mouth.
- 12:24He can determine whether a man lived or died.
- 12:28And again this is an awesome thing that the Lord permitted
- 12:33and you know the the well-known saying with great power comes
- 12:38what great responsibility. Let me add to that.
- 12:41With great power comes great temptation.
- 12:44Great Temptation the temptation of those who hold any kind of
- 12:49position of influence is to abuse that power in order to
- 12:53satisfy selfish feets. Even at the expense of those who
- 12:58trust that you are operating in integrity.
- 13:02And so David here, he's done much good as a king but you're
- 13:07seeing something in him here that you don't really see on
- 13:11this level when he was a servant.
- 13:14When he was a servant, he was very cautious.
- 13:16He had a very soft conscience here.
- 13:19Now, as a king, I believe a great part in What tempted him
- 13:23was his ability to remove or Escape or to get rid of things
- 13:29that might make him look bad. And so I want to just say this
- 13:33right off the gate, if your person who craves position,
- 13:37craves titles, crave status, you have no idea what you're getting
- 13:40yourself into. I actually believe that the Lord
- 13:43concerning his children doesn't bless them.
- 13:47This might take a shot at the Prosperity Gospel, but good
- 13:51doesn't give the same amount even of success.
- 13:55In terms of monetary gain, because he knows as a father
- 13:59that this will destroy this person.
- 14:02God gives Grace to callings, right?
- 14:04And if you don't have that Grace and you can actually be destroys
- 14:07enough trouble. Even operating and what God's
- 14:09called you to do, even if he's giving you the grace, never
- 14:12mind. Trying to explore something that
- 14:14doesn't belong to you or that you can't handle.
- 14:17And so we see here that David is operating with a power and
- 14:21that's giving us a set up to what he's going to do with that
- 14:24power. Now, here's what's fascinating.
- 14:26What I thought about when I came to?
- 14:28This was Moses was told when he was the only only really judge
- 14:32of Israel to hire or to raise up more judges to be able to lead
- 14:38the nation of Israel and his father-in-law comes on the scene
- 14:40and gives him. Gives him a list of qualities
- 14:43can to consider for the future Prospect of Israel's leaders.
- 14:46Does anybody remember one of the main features that Moses should
- 14:50look for concerning a man who would judge the nation?
- 14:57If you want to reference its Exodus 18:21, I'll read it to
- 15:00you and you can mark it if you want.
- 15:01But listen to these words when Moses was advised, here's the
- 15:04type of people that you want in different spheres of power who
- 15:08overlooked the responsibility of shepherding people.
- 15:10Here's what I want you to find in people, he says in Exodus
- 15:1318:21. Moreover, look for able men, so
- 15:17there's ability from all the people men who fear God, Men who
- 15:24fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe.
- 15:27And place such men over the people, as Chiefs of thousands,
- 15:31that's one sphere of hundreds, that's another of 50s and of
- 15:34tens. So, whether it's 10 or 1000,
- 15:37what you need to find, Moses is men who fear God.
- 15:41Now, listen, this is not a very exhaustive list for a resume and
- 15:44I think that's by Divine Design. Here's why.
- 15:47Because if you can find somebody who fears God, you don't need to
- 15:50really look for much else. If you can find a person who
- 15:54fears the Lord, you don't really have to look for anything else.
- 15:57Because a man who fears, God Is So preoccupied with their
- 16:01behavior with their decisions, both public and secret, doing
- 16:05everything before the Divine much more, much more of a
- 16:10concern than their reputation before mere mortals.
- 16:14A man who fears, God has a sense that he is accountable.
- 16:20And he is responsible for the almighty before.
- 16:23Anything else. He realizes that God is the one
- 16:26who dictates his own life and his motivation to please.
- 16:30God is so strong. Listen, he says those who are
- 16:32trustworthy and hate a bribe, I believe those are the byproducts
- 16:36of fearing. God, when you fear God, you are
- 16:39trustworthy when you're when you fear, God no amount of threat or
- 16:43no amount of invitation. No matter of Temptation will
- 16:46sway you, your rock solid because You live before God, you
- 16:51don't live before a price tag. You don't live before the
- 16:54threats of men who are dependent upon every breath, granted by
- 16:59the very God, that you fear. And so, we see here that men who
- 17:02fear God woman, who fear God is a wonderful quality you have and
- 17:07you don't need much else to ensure.
- 17:09Listen to this humility and Justice in high ranks.
- 17:15Now, if that is true, and I thought about that in my study,
- 17:19I asked this question. Well isn't David a man who
- 17:21fears? God When we all agree, that
- 17:24David was a man who feared God. Absolutely.
- 17:28So if that is the case, if the great antidote is to fear the
- 17:31lord, then how do we explain David's Behavior at this point?
- 17:34How do we explain his conflicting convictions and all
- 17:38God is good. A verse that I've read in the
- 17:40Book of Proverbs shot into my mind and I didn't remember the
- 17:44reference not to pull out of my Bible, not to look into the
- 17:46pages and I found it but you glad I found it.
- 17:50It will really help if you have the ESV, if you don't, I'll
- 17:52explain but it's in Proverbs 2814.
- 17:54And that's a verse that I'm going to invite you to turn to
- 17:57and Proverbs 28 14. We read something very
- 18:02insightful in light of the fear of God, the application of the
- 18:06fear of God. Proverbs 28 verse 14.
- 18:13Reads blessed is the one who fears the Lord.
- 18:17When always But whoever hardens his heart will fall into
- 18:25Calamity. Now, the Hebrew does not include
- 18:29who fears the Lord. It just has who fears or who is
- 18:33always reverent. And I believe the translators of
- 18:36the ESV included the Lord. Because when you consider the
- 18:40entire consensus of the Bible, there is no fear that the Bible
- 18:44encourages you. And I to have unless it's a fear
- 18:46towards God. And unless it's a fear towards
- 18:49the authority that God has appointed.
- 18:52And so, I think that's okay. Your to understand.
- 18:54This verse says, blessed is the man who fears the lord always,
- 18:58and the key word in this verse is what always adult time in all
- 19:05circumstances, in all contexts fear, God always, which tells me
- 19:12it's possible to fear God sometimes In some places before
- 19:19some people wink, wink pastures. In some areas, wink week, like
- 19:24in a place where we're at tonight.
- 19:26If you think that this verse is hard to understand, it's very,
- 19:29very simple. I'll prove it to you.
- 19:31How easy is it for us to switch on?
- 19:33Reverence, for God, when we walk into a sacred place like this,
- 19:36but when we switch to write off, when we go into a place, like
- 19:39our living room, we know how to switch on and off the fear of
- 19:43the Lord. I've seen heathens do it.
- 19:47I've seen heathens cuss and do all these things, and once they
- 19:50come to an ancient Church in some historical site, then
- 19:53realize we're going into a church building.
- 19:55Oh, let's just be quiet. People know how to turn this
- 19:58thing on and off, huh? And the Bible says, no fear.
- 20:03God always when you're alone, when with your friends.
- 20:09When you're with your spouse, when you're not with your
- 20:10spouse, when you're on the business trip, when you're on
- 20:12the family trip, fear God all the time.
- 20:17And that will ensure you great protection and Grace at all
- 20:20times. And David unfortunately did not
- 20:23take heat to this proverb, and you would reap the Sorrows of
- 20:25it. So you, and I have to make a
- 20:27conscious decision. There has to be a discipline
- 20:30where we live in light of the presence of the All-Seeing
- 20:33all-knowing. God everywhere everywhere.
- 20:39So, when you go on vacation right in the summertime, when
- 20:43you go on vacation, this winter, you're not taking a vacation
- 20:46from God. See what I'm saying.
- 20:49You're not not spiritual there and then you come back and you
- 20:51get spiritual again. That doesn't work.
- 20:53That's not going to get you blessing.
- 20:54That's going to get you in trouble.
- 20:56It's gonna get you in trouble. Wherever I go, God, is with me.
- 21:00Hey, you're gonna invite me over to house, Guess who's coming?
- 21:02Jesus? I'm not going to be somebody
- 21:06different from the pulp and off the public.
- 21:07Jesus is coming with me. So if you want me to come, Jesus
- 21:10is coming along, I hope you have an extra seat.
- 21:13I hope every believer has that caliber of faith that that's
- 21:17what's going to make us holy and strong and bear consistency for
- 21:21the glory of Jesus Christ. So we see that.
- 21:25David then if you're God here, he let it go.
- 21:27He brought it down and it would cost them much.
- 21:30Now we read in verse 7, when you ride came to him, David asks how
- 21:33job was doing and how the people were doing and how the war was
- 21:37going. This verse infuriates me, It
- 21:40infuriates me. I don't know about you because
- 21:43we heard it from our sister. Here's a man who summons a
- 21:47faithful servant into his presence who organizes this
- 21:50meeting disappointment. And he pretends to be concerned
- 21:54about this war and he makes inquiries for clarification.
- 21:57Listen, David. If you were so concerned about
- 21:59the war, why aren't you there? So here's a man who just coats
- 22:03his his words and his heart by pretending to make this about
- 22:09some kind of evaluation of a war.
- 22:12When in reality it was a scheme. It was a scheme to make you
- 22:17write unsuspicious of an Allure meant to bring him into his home
- 22:23after a journey being away from his wife and to hopefully see
- 22:27his wife and him come together and to enjoy their rights.
- 22:31Rights within the confines of marriage.
- 22:34And cover the tracks of adultery.
- 22:37That's what this man is doing. And when I looked at this, how
- 22:41he has Joe, how's job doing it. How are the people doing?
- 22:44And this is deception. And here's the point that I want
- 22:48to make in light of our theme tonight that when you and I
- 22:51choose to conceal our sin when we choose to hide it and not
- 22:54repent of it and not confess it to those who need to know about
- 22:58it. The adoption of deception is
- 23:00guaranteed. You will become a liar, you will
- 23:06you lie to yourself, you lie to your friends, you'll lie to your
- 23:10parents, you'll lie to your pastors, and here's what happens
- 23:13when a person conceals their sin.
- 23:15When there's something going on, that people are not aware of,
- 23:18you learn to play pretend And you pretend like everything is
- 23:24okay. When in fact, it's not and
- 23:27that's exactly what this man is doing.
- 23:29And it's a sad single thing to see because it only adds to the
- 23:34pain when it will be exposed notice.
- 23:37I said, when not, if it will be exposed, God loves his children,
- 23:42too much to leave us in our sin and to think that we can succeed
- 23:45in concealing it. In love God exposes so that we
- 23:49can receive the healing and the grace and the restoration that
- 23:52we need, and he will not be mocked additionally.
- 23:56Its, this is very painful to see because when we refuse to
- 23:59confess our sin, what we also do is Rob ourselves of the grace
- 24:05and the guidance that we can receive from those who will are
- 24:09willing to embrace us in our sin, And say, look I admire your
- 24:14humility look, we got to learn to be a people.
- 24:17God forbid, that we would be caught in sin, but we need to be
- 24:21a people who learn how to confess before were caught.
- 24:26Don't wait till it's exposed and then you, you confess.
- 24:32Again, God forbid, I want to Echo the words of John.
- 24:35If anyone is in any transgression, if not, when if
- 24:42Just deal with it, immediately deal with that as soon as
- 24:45possible come to the lightest quickly as you can because it's
- 24:48going to happen, you're going to see that, no matter how clever
- 24:51you and I are God knows how to pull the sheets.
- 24:56And they were you are right? And we only add to the problem.
- 24:59You only add to the issues when we do things like lie and sadly.
- 25:04The deception only continues in verse 8 because now he
- 25:07encourages Uriah you can says hey why don't you go down to
- 25:10your house and wash your feet and other while in other words,
- 25:12Stay Awhile. Wash your feet.
- 25:15Relax, kick back, hang out. I'm giving you a leave of
- 25:19absence. I'm letting you be removed from
- 25:21the war so that you can spend time at your house and then, you
- 25:25know what he does, he gives him a gift, the king sends Uriah
- 25:29with a gift. So that when you ride comes with
- 25:32this great honor from the King, it would put him and his wife in
- 25:36good spirits. Right.
- 25:38And make them just feel honored and excited.
- 25:40And we just only add to the possibility of them.
- 25:43Embracing embracing one another. And that's, that's quite
- 25:48insightful. Because when those who are in
- 25:51sin, when those who are concealing sin in their lives,
- 25:55they don't just don't just apply the facade, that all is well.
- 26:02They do more than that. Sometimes they add to that.
- 26:05A layer of a presentation of Charity and goodness and
- 26:10kindness to try to fool others. Right.
- 26:14And so what happens is you put on another level of a show
- 26:20especially to those who you really don't want to know about
- 26:24what is going on. And it's a false sense of
- 26:27fruitfulness. And so, We do what we're told
- 26:33and we serve in our Ministries and we even sometimes go the
- 26:36extra mile and be and be extra nice and what we're trying to do
- 26:39is the same thing we've been trying to do in the beginning.
- 26:41Just fig leaves covering our shame and think that we can
- 26:46mislead God and mislead others so that they don't see our
- 26:50nakedness. They just see what we are able
- 26:52to produce when in fact we're trying to bury ourselves Under
- 26:57some kind of form of distraction.
- 26:58Even if that distraction is some kind of public display of
- 27:01righteousness, People do I did you see how I love the Bible?
- 27:05I love the Bible because I can't think of any other book in the
- 27:09world that has surgical Precision in determining and
- 27:13explaining human behavior. It's incredible.
- 27:18No other book can expose the depths of the evil of the human
- 27:23heart. I mean, this is an ancient story
- 27:25from hundreds and thousands of years ago and yet we still see
- 27:28the same patterns being repeated and 2023.
- 27:32Because we're all infected with Adam, sinned curse and fall.
- 27:36So he does that it's go, here's a gift, enjoy yourself.
- 27:40And the sad verse that, we just read is now juxtaposed with an
- 27:44inspiring one. We just saw it when we read it
- 27:47together verse 9, but Uriah slept at the door of the King's
- 27:51house, with all the Servants of his Lord and did not go down to
- 27:54his house. You've been away from home for
- 27:59so long. Even been, given a green light
- 28:01from your boss that you can now go home and you can see your
- 28:07wife and you can go into your comfortable room.
- 28:11And this man. Refuses.
- 28:16You're going to see why in a couple of verses, but right from
- 28:19here, we realize that he upheld righteous conviction, even
- 28:23listen above comfort and gratification.
- 28:27That's what makes a real Soldier and you and I are called to be
- 28:29soldiers in the faith. According to second Timothy, The
- 28:33sense of Duty and Mission taking primary place above, what can
- 28:38satisfy you. That's what makes Christians
- 28:41effective here. We see this man, who exemplifies
- 28:45that? And you would think you would
- 28:47think that this level of character this level of
- 28:49character from Uriah one of David's, boys.
- 28:53One of the guys that he's raised up and use and worked with.
- 28:56You would think that would move the heart of the man after God's
- 28:59heart, but it doesn't. Now only does it not move him?
- 29:03You ready for this? It bothers him.
- 29:06It bothers him to the point of verbal criticism.
- 29:11So he hears you Ryan didn't go home.
- 29:13So he brings you right in again, and then he says something to
- 29:17him in verse 10. He says Have you not come from a
- 29:21journey? Why did you not go down to your
- 29:24house? He was disturbed by this.
- 29:29Why, here's why you ready for this?
- 29:32Because those who choose to walk in the flesh.
- 29:34Cannot tolerate. Those who walk in the spirit.
- 29:39They can't those who choose to walk in the flesh.
- 29:43Cannot tolerate those who walk in the spirit.
- 29:46And this is a reminder and an example that the presence of men
- 29:51and women, who have principal, who really have principal, who
- 29:56really walk with this level of Devotion to God.
- 30:01Irritate people who want to send comfortably.
- 30:05They do. And the reason is because their
- 30:09very presence and their habits and their convictions expose
- 30:14those who like, David want to play both roles and they do it
- 30:19unintentionally, like, Uriah is not trying to expose David your
- 30:22eyes, just Uriah and here's David just agitated by the fact
- 30:27that Uriah will not succumb to the very same level of
- 30:33compromise that he gave himself to And so he's disturb, you know
- 30:37what he's going to do then we're going to see in a very real way.
- 30:40He's going to push Uriah away and want nothing to do with him.
- 30:46Instead of praising somebody for for displaying such an example
- 30:49of righteousness you know, that's why some people don't go
- 30:52don't go to a Bible preaching Church, understand that that's
- 30:57why some people will not come to a Bible preaching church because
- 31:02the words that are being spoken, even though that person doesn't
- 31:05know what's going on, that person's life for the people in
- 31:07that church. Don't know what's going on.
- 31:08That person life, they have a tendency not just their words
- 31:12but their life to make that person uncomfortable.
- 31:15Because they want to be comfortable and their sin and so
- 31:20they avoid it, they avoid it. And I'm sure the news of Uriah
- 31:28sleeping outside instead of going into his home into his own
- 31:33bed. Struck, David Soul.
- 31:37Because as you heard here is a king, you ready for this, a king
- 31:42who refused to go to war so that he can stay at home.
- 31:46And now, here is an inferior who refuses to go home because of
- 31:50that war This man is just shook. And this is not just speaking
- 31:59about unbeliever to the believer.
- 32:00I'm talking about those who profess godliness, but they want
- 32:03to embrace worldliness at the same time.
- 32:07They can't stand people who live for the glory of God or concert,
- 32:12they can't do it. In fact, sometimes they will go
- 32:15to the extent of joining, the disapproval of the world, and
- 32:18criticize, those who are truly, holy, David David, David?
- 32:26So, what happens? Unlike the king who gave in to
- 32:31Temptation your eye doesn't, and that's quite remarkable.
- 32:34You know why? Because David was not just a
- 32:36leader, David was an Israelite. How are we introduced to Uriah
- 32:40in verse 3 of this chapter? Go back and see it just right
- 32:43there, Uriah the hittite. And then in verse 6, The Holy
- 32:46Spirit repeats it, Uriah, the hittite, where Hittites Jews,
- 32:51they were not native born Jews. They were a part of that
- 32:54Collective group, who occupied the promised land?
- 32:57Before Joshua's Conquest, you know what the holy spirit is
- 33:00trying to tell us about Uriah. He was once a pagan worshipper
- 33:04and now he converted and now is worshipping the true Living God.
- 33:08Think about that. Now that just adds to the sting
- 33:11of this whole thing here, is a man who worshipped false gods,
- 33:16became a proselyte who changed and repented and joined himself
- 33:21to the true and living God. And he is towering and
- 33:26comparison to David in terms of his ambition, to glorify the
- 33:31Lord. despite his background, we see that this man is in
- 33:36comparison outshining to a person who was and Israelite and
- 33:44we see here that Uriah gives his explanation to why he would not
- 33:48go home. You read it, but let's see it
- 33:50again in verse 11, your eyes said to David, The Ark in Israel
- 33:55and Judah dwell in booths. My Lord job in the service of my
- 33:58Lord, I camping in the open field.
- 34:00Here's translation. How is it that the Ark of God,
- 34:04which dwells in a tent? And my people, my fellow
- 34:07warriors were out in the fields, dwelling in their tents and War.
- 34:11How is it that these Things. And these people exposed to
- 34:14danger and threats, Well, I would entertain comfort and
- 34:20gratification may it never be, may it never be and what I love
- 34:25is you ride the first thing that comes to his mouth as what they
- 34:29are. God God that's the first thing.
- 34:33The Forefront of his mind is explanation is the Lord.
- 34:35This man had God in his mind. First God in his explanation.
- 34:38First God it's centered around the Lord.
- 34:42And second to that was the mission that he was called to.
- 34:45This is a mission that I'm called to and there's something
- 34:47deeper here, right? Do you remember what David said
- 34:51to a? He Malik the priest when he was
- 34:53initially running from Saul and he was asking for some food.
- 34:57What did I? Hey, Malik asked if him and his
- 34:59men were. What were you guys are U, guys.
- 35:02Holy, are you guys consecrated? And you remember, David's
- 35:05response, go to First. Samuel quickly.
- 35:07I want you to see this in verse 5 of chapter 21.
- 35:11Look at David's. Explanation.
- 35:12I believe it helps explain uriah's decision and first
- 35:16Samuel 21 verse 5. First Samuel 21:5.
- 35:30And David answered the priest truly woman have been kept from
- 35:34us. As always, when I go on an
- 35:36expedition, the vessels of the young men are wholly even when
- 35:40it is an ordinary Journey. How much more today whether
- 35:43vessels are. Holy, here's what I see from
- 35:47this apparently in David's Squad, when it came to his
- 35:52military, there was a code of conduct.
- 35:56And one of the code of conducts was that when they were on a
- 35:58military Expedition that they were to keep themselves from
- 36:01engaging in relations with women, what's wrong with
- 36:04engaging with women? Well, I think what helps is and
- 36:07you don't have to turn there when you go to Leviticus right,
- 36:10you see in chapter 15 that there are instructions, given to those
- 36:13who give themselves a sexual relations and it, and it, it
- 36:17provides ceremonial obstacles that can bring a hindrance to
- 36:21the effectiveness of their expeditions as they are serving
- 36:24in war. Does that make sense?
- 36:26They're all these things that you have to observe and do if
- 36:28you do engage in relations in such a way.
- 36:30So it's just a, it's just better, not sinful, just more
- 36:33helpful to refrain from such things so that you can be more
- 36:36focused and alert and given to the task at hand.
- 36:41All Uriah is doing is practicing the protocol that I believe he
- 36:45was discipled into having David as a leader.
- 36:50Perhaps that's the reason why Uriah comes so strong with his
- 36:53answer. Maybe it was shocked by the fact
- 36:56that David even question him not going home, this is your thing,
- 37:02this is what we do. And what I love here is that
- 37:06Uriah and some sense gives us another illustration of a
- 37:09Christian principle. One that Paul the Apostle taught
- 37:12to the church and teaches us today from First Corinthians,
- 37:15you don't have to turn there and First Corinthians in a very
- 37:18well-known passage in chapter 6, verse 12, he says all things are
- 37:22lawful for me, but what not all. Things are helpful.
- 37:28All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful.
- 37:32That's the standard of Christianity that Paul wants to
- 37:34bring us to by the spirit. It's not just to look at
- 37:37something and say, is this inherently illegitimate is this
- 37:42evil? Is this out of bounds?
- 37:43Is this wrong? Paul wants you to ask another
- 37:46question, is it helpful? Is it helpful?
- 37:50Is it helpful to the season of life that I'm in?
- 37:52Is it helpful and me becoming more fervent and passion for the
- 37:55Lord. Is it helpful?
- 37:58When you begin to ask those questions, I assure you, you
- 38:02will put a stress on the muscles of the spirit in a way where you
- 38:05will see growth like you've never seen before.
- 38:08Is it helpful not just? Is it sinful?
- 38:11Does it help me run faster longer or does it create wait in
- 38:15my life that hinders me from being all that I can be in Jesus
- 38:17Christ? I want to tell you something,
- 38:20personally in the seasons and I hope that God would keep me
- 38:23asking these questions, but in the seasons where I've been most
- 38:26intentional about, is it helpful?
- 38:28Alive scene. The most I've experienced the
- 38:31most in God, and here's the thing, that's the reward of
- 38:37answering that question is that there is more in him, is more in
- 38:42him and he Syria doing it. There's nothing wrong with being
- 38:45with his wife, there's nothing wrong.
- 38:46Suspect, the king even gave you permission and yet he's so
- 38:49focused on the assignment that he's been called to.
- 38:52He's so caught up in fulfilling the call that he has been called
- 38:56to that. He goes, yeah, it's fine.
- 38:58But at this time, I'm not going to engage in that.
- 39:01What a soldier, what a soldier. So much of our devotion is
- 39:07determined by whether it's comfortable, whether it's nice,
- 39:09what, go beyond that and watch what God can do through your
- 39:12life. You're right here is really,
- 39:14really putting David to shame. And what is David going to do?
- 39:18Once he hears This, I Believe In This Moment.
- 39:20You know what's happening? Providence is happening?
- 39:23I believe that this is a very providential moment for David
- 39:26because, you know, what happens, the initial plan didn't work, it
- 39:29didn't come to fruition. He wanted to bring Uriah into
- 39:32that house, Uriah wouldn't. And on top of that, look at you
- 39:35riyaz words. He's so clear in his explanation
- 39:39to why he won't go in the second part of verse 11.
- 39:43Shall I then go to my house to eat and to drink and to lie with
- 39:47my wife? You would think you would think
- 39:53that, after saying to lie with my way, he didn't have to say
- 39:58that, but he does unknowingly. Now, you have some people that
- 40:01believe you ready for this? That Uriah was suspicious, I'm
- 40:05not in that camp, but you have some people who believe that you
- 40:08write actually is figuring things out.
- 40:10He's look, you know, when somebody is acting very weird
- 40:12and you're putting the pieces together, I'm away.
- 40:15Why did you want me to go home so badly?
- 40:17Some believe that Uriah is sniffing something.
- 40:21Now, if you believe that, that's fine, I don't hold to that.
- 40:24I just believe that this man is just brimming with conviction
- 40:26and it's just shooting out of him like arrows.
- 40:28And here's David, he hears it right to lie with my wife.
- 40:32And you would think that the alarm would go off.
- 40:34You would think in light of the failure of his attempt and the
- 40:38reminder, the reminder that here is a man, you ready for this?
- 40:41Here's a man who would not engage in his rights as a
- 40:45husband. As someone who entertain
- 40:50something that was not my right. Do you think that would stop him
- 40:54in his tracks? You would think that he would
- 40:56put the charade down and come clean.
- 41:00This is God's Providence. This is God.
- 41:03I believe getting David to stop and confess before he sends a
- 41:07prophet to say you are the man. And I believe, when we are in
- 41:11sin, when any man of God, woman of God isn't sin, God will do so
- 41:14much before he exposes them. He'll he'll send warnings in
- 41:19different ways and, you know, some of these big-name guys that
- 41:22if they're that they fall and becomes a scandal, you think
- 41:25that just God does that right away.
- 41:27I believe there's so many warnings beforehand and then he
- 41:30exposes them. Here's this man.
- 41:33He has an opportunity, but the the example of his stubbornness
- 41:38is really a commentary on our own because how many of us
- 41:42rarely are able to detect when God is inviting us, or warning
- 41:48us when we are in sin, How many of us are able to detect that
- 41:54God is able to communicate more than just a supernatural
- 41:59Revelation, being given to somebody say, you're in sin, get
- 42:01up. You do, you have to see beyond
- 42:03that? He gives, gentle nudges.
- 42:06He pulls on you in different ways and here it is.
- 42:10And here's the scary part, some fail to detect it.
- 42:13Others who are able to see, you know, this is something for me.
- 42:17God is trying to get my attention and they brush it off.
- 42:21They brush it off as just coincidental, they ignore it,
- 42:26and they dig their heels in the ground, and they make a greater
- 42:29bolt towards the Rebellion. It's scary.
- 42:33Scary. God will give you a sermon
- 42:35before he exposes God will have somebody call you go.
- 42:38I'll have somebody text you saying brother.
- 42:40I don't know what's going on in your life, but I'm, I'm just
- 42:42praying for you. Listen, this is not just a point
- 42:46inside of there. I've seen it.
- 42:48I've seen it. It's scary.
- 42:50God is real. God is very, very real.
- 42:54And if there is, there is a list of evidences of the realness of
- 42:58God in my own life, as I observed throughout Ministry,
- 43:02it's how God is able to get someone's attention, while
- 43:05they're in sin. It's incredible.
- 43:09It's incredible. That's how much love he has for
- 43:11his children. David doesn't take heed.
- 43:16He doesn't listen to the shepherd, is trying to rescue
- 43:20him. And pull him out of this pit.
- 43:24So what does he do? Verse 12, then David said to
- 43:26your I remain here today also in tomorrow and I'll send you back
- 43:31It's sad for me to say this, but what David is doing here?
- 43:35Is just an example of what the tempter does to us.
- 43:40What's Happening Here? Stay in the premises.
- 43:44He just finished saying, I want to be there.
- 43:47I want to be at the war where I'm supposed to be, and you
- 43:51know, what? David says, just stay a little
- 43:53bit longer, stay a little bit longer and here's the strategy.
- 43:59Perhaps if you stay long enough, you'll change your mind.
- 44:03Perhaps if you stay in close proximity to your house which
- 44:07isn't far from the palace. How do we know that?
- 44:11Because you're right because David was on the roof and he saw
- 44:14Bathsheba bathing. So I mean it doesn't have
- 44:16binocular vision. Must be very close, Uriah
- 44:19obviously knows that just a few steps away from that Palace.
- 44:23So, David tells Uriah just stay a little bit longer and here's
- 44:28the plan, maybe you'll crack. And maybe you'll give in, and
- 44:33maybe you'll change your mind and maybe you can cover the
- 44:36tracks. So just stay You know, the
- 44:42temperature of our souls. Does not give up easily to
- 44:47entice us. He has many tricks in his bag.
- 44:52He'll try one thing, and when it doesn't work, he'll try another.
- 44:54He'll come at one angle. When that doesn't succeed, he'll
- 44:58come at another angle, and then he'll revisit that initial angle
- 45:01that didn't work. He's very, very tricky.
- 45:04We see it with the master in the wilderness.
- 45:06First thing that Satan does is point to some rocks and bring
- 45:11attention to Jesus hunger. That didn't work.
- 45:13So he takes a verse out of context and he tries to tempted
- 45:16to do something silly. Try to get the 10 God and that
- 45:20doesn't work. So he then he shows him the
- 45:21world and he tries to get him to worship Him.
- 45:25And then when that didn't work, he says that he left for another
- 45:27opportune time, until another opportune time here, David in a
- 45:31very human way, is exemplifying how Satan operates in our own
- 45:35lives. The thing that you said, no to a
- 45:39few weeks ago, he'll reintroduce into your life today.
- 45:44Even years ago, even years ago, that thing hasn't been in your
- 45:48life for years. You haven't watched it in years,
- 45:50you haven't tasted it in so long and an offer.
- 45:53A sudden here he comes, especially when you're at your
- 45:56weakest. You remember this?
- 46:00Remember what this felt like. Remember how this made you
- 46:02escape your troubles and your pain?
- 46:04Here it is. And even the fact that David was
- 46:09as willing to have Uriah, wait shows even the Relentless
- 46:12patience of the enemy, the Relentless patience.
- 46:16He he has no problem waiting. You know what's so amazing about
- 46:21the world, the world has no problem being persistent and
- 46:26inviting you to sin. Some of you have friends like
- 46:29that. They once it comes to Friday
- 46:31afternoon. You can almost prophesied.
- 46:34Here comes the text message. What are you doing tonight, huh?
- 46:39And they're just evangelist for worldliness.
- 46:41So don't be ashamed. If you're consistent with people
- 46:43to bring them to church, the world has no problem inviting
- 46:47you into their scum. So here's David saying, why
- 46:51don't you just wait a little longer and Uriah doesn't budge
- 46:55again, you ride this in budget and so he to attempts and they
- 47:00failed When are you gonna get it?
- 47:04He's not, his heart has become so hardened.
- 47:07Because remember that verse, right?
- 47:09That if you don't feel the lord, always, you make yourself
- 47:13available to a hardening of the heart.
- 47:15And David here is just hardening it more and more.
- 47:18And so he comes to another strategy.
- 47:20He takes it up a notch, he has some kind of a feast and you
- 47:24read it. He sees Uriah is like this
- 47:27Great. Oak Tree deeply planted in the
- 47:30convictions of God. He can't move it.
- 47:32So he says, let's get him intoxicated.
- 47:37Let's weakened his ability to reason and to make clear
- 47:41judgments. and so he brings this man, and somehow just keeps
- 47:48feeding him, keeps feeding him keeps feeding him, and this man
- 47:52may be trying to be polite just indulges indulges indulges, and
- 47:55to the point, where he loses sobriety, He loses sobriety.
- 48:01And unfortunately David continues to illustrate how
- 48:03Satan works and people's lives to get him into deeper sin, the
- 48:08enemy knows the absolute value and strength that comes from
- 48:12being sober minded. Being Sober.
- 48:15Minded, you know why the Bible Absolutely discourages and
- 48:22commands against any substance or behavior that would that
- 48:26would tamper with clear-headedness.
- 48:30Because God Champions self-control, he Champions
- 48:34self-control and he wants you. And I to be a control at all
- 48:38times, over our Behavior, our actions, our reactions,
- 48:42everything. Because we are his ambassadors,
- 48:45we represent him and there's an interesting verse and Hosea.
- 48:49411, I've quoted this many times to explain some particular
- 48:53behaviors in the Old Testament. And here I come again to Hosea
- 48:56411. Here's what the prophet says you
- 48:59guys doing, alright. That's not what the prophets
- 49:01are. That's what I'm asking.
- 49:05Hosea 4:11, you ready for this whoredom?
- 49:09Wine and new wine. Which does what take it away
- 49:14understanding. Horton.
- 49:18Wine wine. Here's what Hosea is saying,
- 49:20alcohol among other things. Rob's you one of the things that
- 49:26robs you of, Is Judgment your ability to make precise and
- 49:32clear actions. And that is a, that is an
- 49:35indictment. That is a whoa for us to be
- 49:40controlled by anything apart from the holy spirit of God.
- 49:44He is the alternative. That's why Paul makes that
- 49:48command and Ephesians 5. Right, you know what I find.
- 49:50So interesting. The spirit of God Partners wine
- 49:54with what whoredom. Whoredom promiscuity sensuality.
- 50:02Isn't that interesting? I mean, not all the things that
- 50:04you could put together, you include whoredom with wine and
- 50:09there's a reason for that. The reason for that is because
- 50:12lust itself has an intoxicating Factor That also like wine is
- 50:20able to Cloud our judgment and make us make stupid decisions
- 50:25lust. You know what's so amazing?
- 50:28Here's a man who's trying to intoxicate his friend to make
- 50:33him do something. Whereas he was Intoxicated by
- 50:37lust just a few verses earlier and did what he was not supposed
- 50:40to do. And so we talked about.
- 50:44Yeah be sober with alcohol, a beast.
- 50:46Don't do that. Don't smoke that don't take
- 50:48those pills. Fine, that's wonderful.
- 50:51But how often do we talk about being drunk with lust?
- 50:56And what's one of the dangers of unbridled passions?
- 51:00One of the dangers, is that you don't think clearly, you don't
- 51:05think clearly. and so the proverb there and Proverbs 632
- 51:11makes sense and Proverbs 6:32, we are told he who commits
- 51:15adultery lacks sense. Lack sense.
- 51:22In other words, they do not calculate or consider.
- 51:26The effects of this decision. They don't consider the damage
- 51:31that can be done and that's really what follows Proverbs
- 51:346:32. The consequences of such actions
- 51:38and so, You and I have to be able to learn not to be Mastered
- 51:45by these impulses that come and visit us no matter how strong
- 51:48they are. You know what the world parrots.
- 51:53Well, it's an instinct, it's human nature, when you feel it,
- 51:57you should do it to relieve yourself and they equate.
- 52:01That passion that desire on the same level as food and drink you
- 52:06can survive without sex, you can't survive without food,
- 52:11long-term or water. And so we have to understand
- 52:17here, that there is a clear call to be warned about how when we
- 52:22allow our imaginations to run rampant, you can actually come
- 52:25to such a place you can cross a line just like having one extra
- 52:28glass that takes you over where you now begin.
- 52:31Lose your reasoning and you begin to make plans and schemes
- 52:34and decisions and rendevouz that are absolutely dangerous.
- 52:39Just like a car wreck. It's like a DUI.
- 52:43Be careful, be careful and allow the Holy Spirit to bring control
- 52:48in your life. And here is a man who tries to
- 52:50get another man to come under a very similar influence that he
- 52:54was under guess what? It doesn't work.
- 52:58I need to see David's face as you write as stumbles.
- 53:03He's like there it is. There it is.
- 53:06Yeah. Go go go.
- 53:07Go there go. There and just makes a U-turn
- 53:09and goes right back to where he slept a couple nights before,
- 53:12huh? What does it say about a man
- 53:17that even when you're intoxicated?
- 53:19Not that saying try it. God forbid that your convictions
- 53:23are so solid soul. I can just like as iron anchor
- 53:27that even when substances are pumped into your subconscious
- 53:30tells you to stay committed. Fascinating to me.
- 53:35And so this man doesn't move. Strike 3, David.
- 53:41What are you going to do? Providence is knocking on your
- 53:46door. Your cleverness is not working.
- 53:51Do you think David slept that night?
- 53:54That's what I wondered when I was thinking about this passage.
- 53:56Do you think he, you think you just went to bed in just closed
- 53:58his eyes? I don't think he slept a wink.
- 54:02I think he tossed and turned. I think he tossed and turned.
- 54:10Because you read something here in verse 14, in the morning,
- 54:13David wrote a letter to joab and sent it by the end of Uriah.
- 54:22whether he slept or not, we're not told but what we do know is
- 54:24that he woke up early in the morning, Wrote a letter meaning.
- 54:31Some kind of plan was conjured up as he was laying in that bed
- 54:34and lows of midnight hours. And he did not hesitate to make
- 54:39his move time was against him. and so he writes a letter and in
- 54:45that letter was uriah's death, warrant, do you think David
- 54:52thought about murder when he was scaling and walking on that
- 54:57rooftop earlier in this chapter? You think murder came to mind.
- 55:01Think, you know what? I'm going to sleep with
- 55:04Bathsheba and if it goes wrong, I'm going to kill her husband.
- 55:10No. Piece by piece.
- 55:17That's how it works. One more Soul, another morsel
- 55:22and another morsel, that's exactly what is happening here.
- 55:26And it happened so fast. There was so much included in
- 55:30his thinking that he didn't even consider where he was going.
- 55:35And you read here in verse 15. What the letter said.
- 55:41In the letter, he wrote Set Uriah in the Forefront of the
- 55:44hardest fighting. And draw back from him that he
- 55:48may be struck down and die. Looked, as I said is this the
- 55:57same guy? Who went a man was hunting him
- 56:02down, like an animal. Felt a prick in his heart when
- 56:08he cut a piece of his robe. Is this the same guy?
- 56:14Now he that same guy. Is taking one of his most
- 56:18Faithful Men. and his signing a death sentence, puts it in his
- 56:25hand, you ready for this and so trust in the Integrity of Uriah
- 56:32That he would not open that letter between then and his
- 56:36destination. Only for him to be killed.
- 56:43Such is the potential of sin. When it is not dealt with early
- 56:50on, it has the ability to warp that which was created in the
- 56:54image of God and to make it into a hideous Beast.
- 57:00That is worthy of great scorn. Sin can flip your world upside
- 57:08down. Ken.
- 57:11Jesus can for the good but sin for the worst and David sunk at
- 57:16the such depths. That even took advantage of
- 57:20uriah's. Sensitive conscience and
- 57:24commitment. Again if I had the budget, I
- 57:30think, if I had the budget and I could direct it, the scene would
- 57:33be for a long time. Uriah, they're walking back to
- 57:39the ranks with a smile on his face.
- 57:41Holding his very death, warrant. And David scaling back to that
- 57:48scene of David, just his feet on some desk, unmoved, twiddling,
- 57:53his thumbs? Hoping that job would say yes to
- 57:55that. Unbelievable.
- 57:59But it's real. And here's what rushed through
- 58:03my mind when I thought about Uriah walking back.
- 58:07To his post integrity. Integrity.
- 58:12It might get you killed. But it's better to die with
- 58:17Integrity than to live without it.
- 58:21Integrity. It might get you killed it,
- 58:24might get you fired. You might lose that promotion.
- 58:29You might not be invited to the biggest and best conferences.
- 58:34Because you have conviction to the word of God.
- 58:37You're not be liked or loved by people, you might be invited to
- 58:39the events integrity. Might kill you.
- 58:45But it's better to die with it. That's a live without it.
- 58:50I pray that we would be men like Uriah.
- 58:54And here's the thing, God can do such a work in you.
- 58:56No matter your background, like Uriah, the hittite of all
- 59:00people. To be a man of God, a woman of
- 59:05God. I guess we're gonna have to wait
- 59:09till next week to see what happens next.
- 59:11You see? There's so much content left.
- 59:14But we have enough meat to chew on tonight at the digest by the
- 59:17grace of God. Shall we pray before we conclude
- 59:20tonight? And as the worship team
- 59:34positions himself, I don't want to pray while they're walking up
- 59:36there. But just in your own Hearts,
- 59:41whatever it was that touch your heart.
- 59:43Maybe maybe. Maybe maybe.
- 59:46Maybe tonight was even a providential push from the Lord
- 59:50to get your attention in love. I say this, maybe you are
- 59:55concealing sin or you're trying to continue in sin.
- 1:00:00And the Lord is trying to get your attention before you head
- 1:00:04towards decisions and situations that are unfathomable, just hear
- 1:00:10the voice of the Lord through this Bible study and and Trust
- 1:00:14the wisdom of God to end it. Now, to come before him and
- 1:00:18people that you trust that you know won't judge you to say,
- 1:00:22here I am, I'm broken here I am, I've been foolish.
- 1:00:25Can you help me and trust that the Lord will help you trust
- 1:00:28that God's people will help you If you are in this place and you
- 1:00:31examine your heart racing by the grace of God, I can rejoice in
- 1:00:35the season that I'm in. Oh praise God, for that and ask
- 1:00:38God to keep you and to not let you be puffed up with pride and
- 1:00:43to be low independent even more dependent than if you were
- 1:00:46failing or if you felt yourself slipping.
- 1:00:48Lord, we come before you tonight at this time, rejoicing in the
- 1:00:52richness of your word, we thank you that it is surely alive and
- 1:00:57it makes us come alive. And we do ask oh God that You
- 1:01:00would help us in whatever season that we may be in for those who
- 1:01:04are feeling the pull because they're on a rooftop somewhere.
- 1:01:09And they're not supposed to be where they are.
- 1:01:11And they sensed the strength of an invitation to go somewhere
- 1:01:14where they never thought they would go Lord, let your voice be
- 1:01:17louder than my voice on this microphone.
- 1:01:19And for those who are strong and steady, we pray that you would
- 1:01:23only reinforce that strength and that we would be all the more
- 1:01:26serious about making sure that we do not fall.
- 1:01:30Lord. Help us also believe, help us
- 1:01:33also believe that you've given us everything we need.
- 1:01:35According to Peter's words to never fall, you can keep us from
- 1:01:40Scandal and betrayal. And pain, Lord.
- 1:01:43You have given us what we need to be in Victory and we praise
- 1:01:46you for that. And what we just praise you
- 1:01:48through song. Now as we Rejoice over your
- 1:01:50word, giving you glory and thanks that, you were the God
- 1:01:53who cares for us. And you give us stories like
- 1:01:57this to help us avoid crisis. We bless your name now and this
- 1:02:02Friday evening in Jesus name we pray.
- 1:02:04Amen. Shall We Stand?
- 1:02:07Let's Stand Together. Worship God.
- 1:02:06Shall We Stand? Let's Stand Together.
- 1:02:08Worship God.
