- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Kate Dreston and welcome to Kate’s Devotional Podcast.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: I drop my podcast every Wednesday.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: It's always a five-minute or less devotional to bring you encouragement as we try to live our lives according to the Bible.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: So glad you're here.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Do you ever feel like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders?
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: You know, I think we might be surprised at how many people around us are carrying things that we never know about.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, sure, they might seem happy, put on a facade like everything's going great for them.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: But inside, they're carrying some really heavy stuff.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: We all have times in our lives when we struggle under the weight of our stresses and worries and heartaches.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: But if you're feeling that way, hold on.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: There's hope.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: But you knew that because for Christians, there's always hope.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And why is that?
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Because we serve an awesome God who is capable of so much more than we could ever imagine.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: When I have a burden, I remember the acronym of ASH, A-S-H.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: A stands for accept.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: S stands for surrender.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: H stands for have faith.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So here are three steps you can use to lift the weight of those burdens from your shoulders.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Number one, accept the situation.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: You know, whatever burdens we're carrying today, the first step is to always recognize that the Lord has brought these circumstances into our lives for a reason.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: He's always got a plan, and it's always for our good.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Whether the issue we're dealing with is temporary or permanent, we just need to accept it and then seek the Holy Spirit's guidance.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: He's going to help us figure out the best way to move forward.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, number two, surrender the burden.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Matthew 11, verses 28 and 30, and I'm going to be reading out the New King James Version.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: The first part of it says, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Did you hear the first word is come?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: The word come means the action of moving.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, we have to move towards God.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: The remainder of that passage, it says, Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: And you will find rest for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So we got to pray and surrender our burdens to him to find the rest that he promises.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And last but not least, number three, have faith that he's going to lighten the load.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: The Book of Psalms contains so many passages where David cries out to God.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: David had a lot of stress in his life.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: He was king, for one.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: He was hated by many people.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Saul spent a lot of time trying to kill him.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: David spent a lot of time trying to stay one step ahead of everyone who wanted to see him dead.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: But David was a man after God's own heart, and he knew the Lord heard him when he would cry out for help.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: He had faith.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Faith is required of a Christian.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: After all, Hebrews 11, 6 says, but without faith, it is impossible to please him, meaning God.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: You know, even with a strong faith, it's not always God's will that our problem is going to be solved and that he's going to take it away.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: But he does promise to help us get through it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: There's another verse in Psalms.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: It's 55 verses 22.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: It says, cast your burden on the Lord and he shall sustain you.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: So when you feel the heaviness of life pressing in on you, remember you are not meant to carry this alone.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Don't let it crush your spirit when God can lift it off of you.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And I pray that that's what all of us will do today.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: That we'll accept it, surrender it, and have faith that God will help us.
