- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to Five Minute Parenting.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: I'm Karen, your show host, and today I have a special couple on the show, Ben and Julie Quine, authors of the Biblical Worldview Primer Book.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: Ben is an author and speaker and serves as Vice President of Christians Engaged.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: His Bible studies and the Answers for Difficult Days series equips churches and individual believers to address the hot topic issues of our culture from the foundation of Scripture.

- 1:21SPEAKER_02: Bill Federer of the American Minute describes their book as outstanding, a beautiful, visually captivating volume.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: It reveals gospel truths and a crystal clear presentation and shines a brilliant light on the unique foundations of America and the source of the freedoms we enjoy.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: Julie and Ben, welcome to the show and congratulations on your book.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much, Karen.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: It's a pleasure to be here.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Thanks, Karen.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Well, tell us a little bit about yourself, what you do, and what inspired you to write this book.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Well, first of all, just as children of God, um, we we both Julie and I are very passionate about um sharing God's truth with others and trying to um be disciples of Christ in everything we do.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Um, as homeschool parents, we have three uh young boys that we love dearly and try to are trying to raise them up in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Um, so that's kind of our our background.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: My my role as uh vice president of Christians Engaged is something I'm very passionate about as well.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, I love that we get to disciple Christians to pray, vote, and engage across the country.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, Christians Engaged is actually the uh engagement ministry of a group called Family Policy Alliance Foundation, wonderful ministry started by Dr.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Dobson many years ago.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Um, we wanted to write a book um that would help our children to stand on God's word.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: There's there's so many trials and uh obstacles in the way in our culture today.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: We wanted them to be equipped with a biblical worldview.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And we we saw that um that there were many studies coming out that say that that a person's worldview is normally set by the time they're about 13 years old.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: And this really underlined to both Julie and me the importance of parents and the importance of passing on uh truth to the next generation.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: I've written a lot of Bible studies really for adults on issues that are so important to our culture, like justice and racism and economics, but we wanted something that would make it easy for parents to pass the truth to the next generation, and that's why I wrote this book.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: Wonderful.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's definitely needed in our culture.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Well, this book is intended to be used as a family devotional.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: So, what do you hope readers and families take away from the book?
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: Well, we know that uh God's word has the answers for life and should impact every area of life.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: And um, God, as the source of life, his word is a life-giving um experience for all of us.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: So we we really believe firmly in having scripture be the foundation of everything we do in all aspects, in all areas.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: So um it's very important to have those times around God's word together as a family.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: We believe those are very sweet times together when the kids can ask questions.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And um what we have noticed too is if you're reading scripture cover to cover with your kids, um, there's no topic it won't address, there's no opportunity you won't have to discuss things together as a family.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: It's just a perfect, easy, beautiful way to um pass foundational truth to your kids.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: So that's why we wanted to do this in family devotional style.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: Devotional form.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Well, do you have, do either of you have a favorite part of the book?
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: And did you discover anything surprising or fascinating as you wrote and researched and uh published it?
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Um, my favorite part is at the end of each chapter we have um like a little recap, which is basically rubber meets the road, how this is um perfectly applicable in your life now, and it it just ties things together so beautifully.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: I really love those sections.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: But the the sections that the book goes through, um the first one is the complete uh gospel presentation, the story of the Bible.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Um the book itself is illustrated by some of the greatest art masterpieces in all Western civilization, and so it's just really pretty to look through.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Um, but these images tell a beautiful story, and we get to tie that together with um prophecies about Christ and and him being the Messiah and um just like the story of the Bible as a whole.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: And then the second section is a call to personal response.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Well, now that you know this truth of what Christ has done, how are you personally going to um respond to that?
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: And um, so that's a really fun thing too.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: We look at the pilgrim of the cross, the pilgrim of the world, and the prodigal son.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: So different things, uh different choices you can make with your life, how you're going to um live, and then what God's word says about um repentance and reconciliation and um following the Lord.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: So the third section is probably my other favorite part.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: It's about Christian virtues, which I feel like we really don't cover very much anymore, even in our churches and in our Sunday schools.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Um, how are we supposed to live now as Christians, um, like nugget by nugget?
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: So that section goes through um wonderful, amazing things like um economics, justice, marriage, and family, practicing charity, um, helping to meet the needs of others.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: And it's just that was probably my funnest part because I feel like we don't hear enough about all of those fun things.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: So what a great tool for discipling children.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: Ben, did you have a favorite part or anything you learned that was surprising?
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Julie mentioned a couple of them.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I love that we highlight the some of the messianic prophecies.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, as as the story of the Old Testament is unfolding, God makes promises to to various people to Adam and Eve.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: He makes promises to David.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Um, and and then we show how Christ fulfilled all of those in his in his life on earth.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: And that's really powerful, I think.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Um, and I also love like like Julie mentioned that we cover very important worldview questions like evolution.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: You know, people say man is basically good.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: You know, that's not what the Bible says.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Um, economics, justice, marriage, family, gender, these are these are very important topics that our culture is wrestling with.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: And again, we want to point people to scripture because it has the answer.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, it sure does.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, I like to g give practical tips to parents on this show.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Are there any tips that you would recommend to parents uh that will help them to grow that biblical worldview in their children besides this book?
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Although that's it sounds like a fantastic tool for that.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: I think the first step is just read the Bible.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, we we we don't read the Bible enough as families, read it cover to cover with your kids.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: And what we've what we've done that we love is having our kids read the Bible out loud, having them read it um during our family devotional time, and then to have just an open time afterwards for questions, just a totally open floor.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Anything goes, kids, what did what is what stood out to you?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Do you have any questions about this?
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: What do you think about it?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: What does this mean for our lives?
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, let this see where they what what they're interested in and apply scripture to to whatever questions they have, because as we said, God's word has the answers for life.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then applying applying those things that you're learning as well in all the nuts and bolts of life.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: And um scripture does apply to all of our situations.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: So maybe you're practicing your piano, and the Bible might not specifically talk about practicing the piano, but it talks a lot about your attitude when you're doing it and the way that you praise and worship the Lord with your music, how you develop skills.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's just so many ways that you can draw scripture into your homeschooling or just your daily um rhythm with your with your kids.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that's good.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: Well, with this book then, what do you recommend for parents?
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: Doing it once a week, every day, once a month.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, I guess I know that depends on family schedules and lifestyle.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: It it does.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: The the book itself, I think it's about 53 or 54 lessons long.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: So if you did one lesson a week, you'd get through it in about a year.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Um, but we uh tend to enjoy doing it with our family more often.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Um, usually on weekdays after breakfast, we get together and we do family devotions in the living room.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: And so we've uh been through the book two or three times now, and it's it's not a difficult, um, long commitment.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Um, so you can you can go through it pretty quickly, and it's just really fun to see each time the the light bulbs continue to go on and the kids continue to get involved, and it's just really encouraging and fun.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: All right, that's great.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: Well, before we close, tell us a little bit more about your website, Christians Engage.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: I know you mentioned that at the beginning.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: That's right, yes.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: So basically, if you look at uh the whole of Scripture and specifically Proverbs 29.2, um, what we see is that that God really cares about leaders and leadership.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: God created government.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Um, and that when we have good leaders, uh people are blessed, and when there's bad leaders, people suffer.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: What Proverbs 29.2 says is when the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: And so what we do at Christians Engage is disciple Christians on how to love our neighbors through getting involved in government, how to advance biblical values through civic engagement.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: And we have really incredible tools for Christians at every level of engagement.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Uh, for those that have never been involved or engaged, if it, if it's if that seems like a kind of a scary proposition, or you know, there's a lot of other objections, but we, you know, no, this is a great way for us to love our neighbors.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: We can help Christians at that stage, all the way up through those who are running for office.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: We have an amazing campaign school, and those who are already serving in government, great tools for them as well.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Um, I'd love to highlight two tools real quickly.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: One is called the Pledge, and it's such a powerful tool.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: We ask every Christian in the country to commit to praying for our country at least once a week, voting in every election, and getting engaged in some way as God puts on your heart.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: And that's been incredibly powerful in so many people's lives.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: And then the second is a uh a little video course we created called On Ramp to Civic Engagement.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: And that's just a great place for every Christian to start to learn about how our government works and how we can really be a light uh in our culture.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: And then there's one more event.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: If you don't mind, I'm gonna share real quickly.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Uh we have this incredible event coming up called America Reads the Bible.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: And that's gonna be April 18 to 25 uh this this year, coming up real soon.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna have leaders from across the country, about 475 leaders from all backgrounds and um areas of our culture coming together to read the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation to celebrate America's 250th anniversary and to just recognize that we can't make it um even one day without the Lord and his word.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: And so to acknowledge that as leaders, we're gonna have it uh streamed from the Museum of the Bible and anyone can watch it across the country.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: We've got churches and schools all getting involved, over a hundred national ministries.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: So it's really exciting to see the Lord work as we as we turn to him and kind of a kind of a uh an Ezra-Nehemiah moment for our country.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: That is amazing.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: I will, yes, we will make sure to to help promote that.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Um, and Museum of the Bible, I love that place.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: My family and I had the privilege of visiting several years ago.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: If you haven't been, oh, make a trip to Washington, D.C.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: to see that.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: It's it's something.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: Um, well, this is great.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: Thank you for what you're doing, really, for this next generation.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: It's so important for this generation, um, being involved, engaged in civics and our government.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: You know, um, I know there's a lot of conversations that go around that, but we need the Lord in our nation.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: And so we need more people stepping up.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: So thank you for what you're doing.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: And just tell listeners, I'll list all this in the show notes as well, but tell listeners the best place to find you online.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: That would be benquine.com.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: That's q-u-in-e.com.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Okay, I will list that in the show notes.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Well, thank you so much for being here.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: It's been a pleasure.
