Transcript
- 0:00Well, the reason some people think they're autistic and
- 0:01they're not is because they're confusing other things.
- 0:04And I'm going to go and break down all of those things now
- 0:06because I see this quite a lot, happens quite often, especially
- 0:09on my channel and people I meet in public.
- 0:11So in this video I'm going to tell you the difference between
- 0:13just having a self diagnosed autism diagnosis and an actual
- 0:17diagnosis of autism and why that can be detrimental to you and
- 0:20what you can do about it. All that is coming wired up
- 0:23right now guys. So, OK, let's just break it down
- 0:27a second, OK? OK, not like that, break it
- 0:29down, but like, let's go backwards, OK?
- 0:30So basically autism can overlap with other kind of things.
- 0:35And what I mean by overlap is the appearance of it can overlap
- 0:37with other things. So autistic individuals can be
- 0:39anxious, they can be socially awkward, they can be depressed,
- 0:43they can have personality differences, and they can also
- 0:46have ADHD. Now, all of those things can
- 0:49also exist in a person who's not autistic, right?
- 0:52And so without professional assessments, without
- 0:55professional help, without professional screenings, all
- 0:57these signs can be easily misread.
- 0:59Because sometimes it's kind of like, I call it the online
- 1:01doctor syndrome where you could like Google something like, oh,
- 1:03I've got a temperature and a rash and somebody's like, Oh my
- 1:06God, I'm dying, right? But like, you're not dying.
- 1:07It's just that those things can also happen.
- 1:09It's kind of like if you go to any drug that you buy, like, you
- 1:14know, painkillers or anything or ibuprofen and you check the, you
- 1:17know, maybe symptoms of or, or reactions or possible kind of
- 1:22like reactions to it and all of them.
- 1:24It's literally everything. It's like nausea, feeling sick,
- 1:27death, or I don't know, there's all these kind of things because
- 1:30a lot of things can over overlap and also you can then miss read
- 1:34the signs. So the goal basically isn't to
- 1:36be a gatekeeper, right? It's to help people who are to
- 1:39see what's really going on. Because think about it, if
- 1:41you're getting treated for autism in a way of like therapy
- 1:43or whatever, but actually there's something else going on
- 1:47or it's not autism, then you're not going to be stimulated.
- 1:49You know, brain's not going to be getting the right amount of
- 1:51attention, right amount of things.
- 1:52So let's go through it right now.
- 1:53OK, so first thing we need to talk about is anxiety.
- 1:56Anxiety is a really interesting 1 and I'm going to give you a
- 1:58take away at the end of talking about this.
- 2:00How you actually help with anxiety?
- 2:02Look, I have anxiety, I have an anxiety diagnosis, but I don't
- 2:05let it control my life. I have autism and ADHD and my
- 2:07name is Dan, by the way. So if you knew around here and
- 2:10make sure that you hit the subscribe button by clicking the
- 2:12notification bell so you don't miss another video if you're
- 2:14interested in this type of stuff because I talk about autism and
- 2:16ADHD and all those kind of things.
- 2:18Now anxiety comes because of something called fear.
- 2:22Fear comes from worry and worry comes from the unknown and the
- 2:24unknown comes from well, not solving a problem or the
- 2:27perception of a problem, right or seeing a problem.
- 2:30So people in life will all have problems and problems are good
- 2:33things by the way, guys, because the more problems we have, the
- 2:35more solutions we can create and the more solutions, the happier
- 2:37we become. When we don't solve problems is
- 2:40when the worry and the fear and the anxiety comes.
- 2:43But if you just have extreme bad anxiety, is isn't an indicator
- 2:49that you're autistic, just an indicator that you have anxiety,
- 2:51right? Anxiety can exist on its own,
- 2:54but with autism also, but it's not a sole indicator that you're
- 2:57autistic, which is really interesting.
- 2:59So I see a lot of people thinking this like I'm really
- 3:01anxious. You know, I'm anxious around,
- 3:03you know, kids or tractors or I don't know.
- 3:05And then they'll say this like as if it's like a thing that
- 3:08it's supposed to be autistic, but it's not.
- 3:09It could be anxiety. And you can actually treat
- 3:11anxiety with medication and therapy which is pretty amazing
- 3:14because it can help you level you out and you feel so much
- 3:17stronger and more positive. Now.
- 3:18No diagnosis at all, not relating to autism traits
- 3:21confidently without any history or testing can be quite
- 3:26dangerous. So if you're self diagnosing
- 3:27online, you could be using up resources for an autistic person
- 3:31in a public setting where somebody who is autistic can't
- 3:35get access. Now what I mean by this is there
- 3:38are some flower lanyards that you can get right for showing
- 3:41hidden disabilities and you don't need to qualify for this,
- 3:44but you just pick one up and wear it.
- 3:45What this means is that you get access to certain things in
- 3:47certain areas where autistic individuals may feel better and
- 3:51calmer in there. Or say you go to a grocery
- 3:53store. I know here we have Morrisons
- 3:55grocery store in the UK and they have a sentry box.
- 3:57And the sentry box is basically if you go there and your kids on
- 3:59the spectrum or you're on the spectrum, you can get a sensory
- 4:01fidget toy and you can walk around and do your grocery
- 4:04shopping whilst focusing on the fidget toy.
- 4:05And it really helps calm you down or get you normalized in
- 4:08that situation. But if you're not autistic and
- 4:11you go there and you pick up the last fidget item within the
- 4:13share box and a kid comes in who's a Level 3, you know, non
- 4:17verbal, really, really needs a fidget toy and the mom's
- 4:20struggling, you know, I couldn't live myself if I'd have taken
- 4:23that. And it was the wrong diagnosis,
- 4:24you know. So having the wrong diagnosis
- 4:26could also negatively impact the lives of other people who
- 4:29actually are diagnosed who need those support things.
- 4:31I'm not saying that if you self diagnose, you're not autistic.
- 4:34I'm just saying that if you self diagnose and you're not
- 4:35autistic, then it's harder to justify the use of things.
- 4:39Here's a word from today's sponsor.
- 4:41Now today's sponsor is trustworthy and it's more than
- 4:44just an app. Trustworthy is a all online
- 4:47dashboard that helps organize your family.
- 4:50It's kind of like the number one tool, the all in one organizer
- 4:56for your family, right? And so it is an app that you can
- 4:59use on your phone, on your tablet or on your computer.
- 5:02And it's amazing. I find this to be an ADHD
- 5:05godsend, right? So me and my girlfriend forever
- 5:07forgetting, oh, oh, the trash goes out on this day.
- 5:10Oh, it's somebody'd birthday or oh, the kids insurance for the
- 5:14for that healthcare runs out on this day.
- 5:16We need to renew this or my drivers license renews this day.

- 5:39stuff like that. You can hide legal documents in
- 5:42here so that you never lose them, and it's all in one
- 5:44central place which is completely secure and encrypted.
- 5:47It's absolutely amazing and I find it absolutely fascinating.

- 5:53link in the description down below and check it out.
- 5:56This is an ADHD godsend. It's kind of like organizing
- 5:59everything for you. And it's also, I've got the
- 6:02nickname the family operating system and it absolutely is just
- 6:06that. So please check out trustworthy
- 6:08down below. I think it's a godsend and I
- 6:10know you're going to get a lot from it.
- 6:11Thank you for sponsoring this video.
- 6:12Now, ADHD is a big one, right? ADC has struggles with focus and
- 6:16concentration and organization and remembering things.
- 6:19These are all very similar to that of people on the autism
- 6:22spectrum. However, the difference is ADHD
- 6:25people can socialize. They want to socialize, they
- 6:28want to make friends, they want to go out, they want to do
- 6:30things, they want to be seen, heard and and enjoy life.
- 6:34Where autistic individuals sometimes are so focused on
- 6:38something that is introverted, they don't want to do those
- 6:41things. They're not really bothered
- 6:42about socializing because they feel like there's no actual
- 6:44benefit to it. Because maybe when we were
- 6:46hunter gatherers there was a benefit, but now we're not.
- 6:49And for the information guys, something really interesting is
- 6:51people diagnosed with Asperger syndrome actually have just
- 6:53share more DNA with Neanderthal, which is a, an ancient type of
- 6:57human hominid on this planet, basically like an animal looks
- 7:00like us than neurotypical people who are not autistic.
- 7:03So which is really interesting. In fact, I isolated my genes,
- 7:07my, you know, my genetic code and looked at what kind of
- 7:11things I would be allergic to and blah, blah, blah.
- 7:13And I actually said I have two genes related to people on the
- 7:15autism spectrum, which are really interesting.
- 7:17And they call the autism genes. I don't know if it's an official
- 7:20term, but it's something that they look at on a on a genome
- 7:23basis, which is really interesting.
- 7:25But anyway, we're getting sidetracked here.
- 7:27ADHD does not automatically mean that you're autistic and it
- 7:31could just be ADHD or not even ADHD.
- 7:34You could just have some of the symptomatic traits of ADHD and
- 7:36not be either. Self diagnosis can raise some
- 7:39awareness, but what I would say about a self diagnosis is if
- 7:43you're self diagnosed and you don't, you're not on a waiting
- 7:45list or you've got no professional kind of like
- 7:48backing and monitoring, like your professionals haven't put
- 7:50you forward for a referral. And it's kind of like, I don't
- 7:53think you would really qualify for it.
- 7:56And I actually know people who've done this and then go for
- 7:58like 4 or five autism assessments and they've failed
- 8:01every time. And they said, no, you're not
- 8:02autistic. You're you're just anxious or
- 8:03you just have this or whatever. So it's really interesting.
- 8:06Now, the last one I'll talk about is socially awkwardness.
- 8:08Like if you're socially awkward, that also doesn't mean you're
- 8:11autistic, right? If you're socially awkward, it
- 8:12might mean that you can just, you know, oh, I, I don't really
- 8:15like being around a lot of people, you know, because people
- 8:18suck or I'm a maybe, I don't know, they're not on your level
- 8:21of intellect or maybe they're not interested in the same
- 8:22things you are, but that doesn't mean you're autistic.
- 8:24Autistic individuals can't be social or around people in
- 8:27social situations due to many things.
- 8:29Not knowing the social rules, the conventions of socializing,
- 8:32how to deal with friends, when to talk, when it's their tend to
- 8:34talk when it's appropriate to say certain things, filters of
- 8:37language and other kind of personal details.
- 8:39Sensory improved from around the pub, noise, clicking their
- 8:42glasses, people talking, smoke, drinks, all this kind of stuff.
- 8:45It's not going to happen. It's too overloading.
- 8:47We avoid those things like the plague and so that would create
- 8:52a difficulty in trying to figure out what is going on.
- 8:56Now guys, if you're interested in downloading my free
