Latest / The Psychic Explorer / Valentine's Guided Meditation: Choosing Love in a Divided World 🔮
Transcript
- 0:09Hello, you gorgeous lot. Welcome to another episode
- 0:12of Psych Explorer. I hope you're doing well.
- 0:17Happy Valentine's weekend. It is Valentine's
- 0:19weekend. I don't know about you, but I am yet
- 0:22to book anything for my other half. There are
- 0:25no bunches of roses I bought yet, no card, and
- 0:28there's certainly no fancy restaurant booked
- 0:30yet. However, I'm letting myself off because
- 0:32as I'm recording this, it is only the last week
- 0:35of January, so I have got plenty of time. I'll
- 0:38be honest, I'm hoping Simon will take care of
- 0:41a lot of that as well. Take it off of my hands.
- 0:45Hello, how are you? First of all, before I get
- 0:47started, a big old thank you very much to Rob
- 0:50Lomax. How did you find out? What did you think?
- 0:54Wasn't what Rob had to say really fascinating?
- 0:58Came from a very different point of view than
- 1:01what I come to spirituality from, but - still
- 1:05no less valid. Actually, when I think about it,
- 1:08that conversation really opened up my eyes to
- 1:10other options which I thought weren't even open
- 1:13to me before. I hope you appreciated and thank
- 1:18you again to Rob for coming on. Massive, massive
- 1:22thank you to all my guests. Thank you to Rob
- 1:25for the last episode. It is Valentine's weekend
- 1:29and I'll be honest with you. This is maybe the
- 1:35fifth time I have recorded this introduction,
- 1:38this episode, because I want to talk to you today
- 1:42about love. Isn't that lovely? It's Valentine's
- 1:46and love, gushy love and all that love. I'm recording
- 1:52this a couple of days after some pretty horrific
- 1:57things that have happened in the US. And I was
- 2:01wondering, do I go political? Do I sort of go
- 2:06a little bit preachy about spiritual bypassing,
- 2:10about being all love, light and rainbows and
- 2:13trying to ignore everything and how I think that's
- 2:15actually really damaging. But it just did not
- 2:18sit right with me. I thought, no, I don't want
- 2:20to go down that route. I don't want to be preachy.
- 2:23I don't want to be ranty. As much as what I am
- 2:26witnessing, what is happening in the US and as
- 2:30a result, the ripple effect that is having across
- 2:32the rest of the world, especially in my own country,
- 2:36the political ideologies that are bubbling away
- 2:39under the surface, which to me at least absolutely
- 2:42terrify me. I thought, no, I can't focus on that.
- 2:47But what I can focus on is exactly what Valentine's
- 2:50Day is all about. And that is love. It's difficult,
- 2:54isn't it? And excuse my French, but it's difficult
- 2:57when we see so much shit go down in the world
- 3:01around us. We think the world is just full of
- 3:05hatred. The world is full of differences. And
- 3:10what can I do? You know, I've literally been...
- 3:13I am a very politically aware person. I pride
- 3:17myself on knowing what is going on in the world.
- 3:20I find it really interesting. But sometimes it's
- 3:24to my detriment, you know, I'll listen to the
- 3:26political analysis on my podcasts day in and
- 3:30day out. And I really have to sort of go in and
- 3:33go out of it. I've been watching the stuff happen.
- 3:35I've been listening to it all. And I thought,
- 3:38what can I do? Like, what can I do? Like, why?
- 3:41I'm not in that country yet. It is affecting
- 3:43me on an emotional level so much. It's exactly
- 3:47the same when things kick off in Gaza and other
- 3:50parts of the world. It just affects me. It does
- 3:53affect me. It really does. But there's also with
- 3:57that sense of sorrow is the only word I can think
- 4:03of at the moment. comes this sense of helplessness.
- 4:06What can I do? And I sat here for, as I said,
- 4:12the fourth, fifth, maybe even sixth time trying
- 4:15to start this episode, not having a clue, but
- 4:19having a basic structure, but just not being
- 4:22able to formulate how I want to take this episode.
- 4:26And I was just sat here and I just thought, pull
- 4:29a card. and I pulled a card from one of my decks
- 4:33and it was Goldilocks and three bears and underneath
- 4:39it said child of hearts and around the outside
- 4:42it had a picture of a heart and on the picture
- 4:45Goldilocks was wearing this apron with little
- 4:48hearts on it and I thought I knew it I thought
- 4:49I knew if I pull a card it's going to be something
- 4:51Valentine's related I can guarantee it and you
- 4:54know it was But I sat with it and I thought,
- 4:57no, this still just doesn't resonate with me.
- 4:59I don't know what I'm going to be talking about
- 5:00here. And then I picked up my phone. And like
- 5:06I say, I've got my personal Instagram account,
- 5:10which is very different. The stuff that comes
- 5:13up on my algorithm for that is very different.
- 5:16It's very political. I don't post a lot of political
- 5:20stuff. It's more artsy photos from my travels
- 5:23and things like that. but the algorithm shows
- 5:26me lots of political stuff on that. Whereas my
- 5:28psychic explorer is all love, light and rainbows.
- 5:31And I was on my psychic explorer side and I obviously
- 5:35can't show you this reel, but what I will do
- 5:40is I'll put the audio onto it. All you need to
- 5:44know is this reel. of a bus driver who drives
- 5:49around Hackney which is a borough in London and
- 5:52as he drives around on his route he has this
- 5:55portable bubble machine and he opens his window
- 5:58and as he drives these bubbles just come out
- 6:02of his bus and it's such a simple thing to do.
- 6:08I was watching this reel, and I've reposted it
- 6:11on my Instagram, so if you are interested in
- 6:13it, go to my Instagram, go onto the reels page,
- 6:15and you'll see it there. Here is the audio of
- 6:18it. Just listen to what this guy has to say.
- 6:22Hey, mate, what are you doing? What are you doing?
- 6:26You've got to share the love. As soon as people
- 6:28see a bubble, they're smiling like, they don't
- 6:30know why. That's the whole point. You don't need
- 6:32a reason. There's three people I've made cry.
- 6:34I'm getting emotional now thinking about it.
- 6:36An elderly man came down and he says to me that
- 6:38his daughter always gets this bus and she's very
- 6:41poorly in hospital and she doesn't smile much,
- 6:43but every time she speaks about me she smiles.
- 6:46A black cab driver pulled up next to me and he
- 6:48says, brother, you don't understand what kind
- 6:51of day I was having and you just made my day
- 6:53and his face went red. This is the weapon of
- 6:55mass construction. 106 is cool. I'm from Hackney.
- 6:58A lot of people who come in the bus will actually
- 6:59know. So it's like a home route. It's my home.
- 7:03Life is short. Smile more. That's my motto. Thank
- 7:06you very much. I saw that and I thought that's
- 7:10it. That is it. That is what I want to talk about.
- 7:14Things are really not great in the world at the
- 7:16moment. And it's very easy to feel really powerless.
- 7:19It's really easy to think, who am I to make a
- 7:23difference in such... a power -filled world where
- 7:27it feels almost impossible to make any difference
- 7:30whatsoever. But what that video showed me, we
- 7:34all have the power to make someone smile. We
- 7:37all have the power to make someone laugh. We
- 7:41don't have to be comedians. We don't have to
- 7:43be Samaritans. But if we all touch just one person
- 7:49in our day, said hello to someone, then What
- 7:54difference could that make and what impact could
- 7:57that make? I spoke early on about the ripples
- 7:59that the US politics is having on the UK politics
- 8:03and they are having massive ripples over here.
- 8:08Humans, people, souls are inherently good. We
- 8:13want what is best. And sometimes that means that
- 8:17some people make judgements that don't seem to
- 8:19be. good on the surface, but actually if you
- 8:22probe a bit deeper, then you sort of understand
- 8:25where they're coming from. It takes empathy.
- 8:27That doesn't mean I agree. Trust me, there are
- 8:30plenty of people who I understand where they're
- 8:31coming from, but I staunchly disagree with where
- 8:34they're coming from and their ideology. But that
- 8:37doesn't mean that I don't have the power to make
- 8:40an impact on their life. If that means that I
- 8:44drive around with a portable bubble machine hanging
- 8:47out of my car, so that when I drive, bubbles
- 8:50following me around the village that I live in.
- 8:52If that means that you can say hello to someone,
- 8:57a stranger, just smile at someone. I know it
- 8:59can be a bit awkward, but actually just smiling
- 9:02at people can make such a difference. I went
- 9:05to my online sitting in the power practice I
- 9:10do on a Sunday evening. It's facilitated by Dana
- 9:13Willey, the wonderful guest I had on episode
- 9:16eight. And she has something called City in the
- 9:20Power Sundays, where it's a free online thing.
- 9:23You go on to her website, Mediumship with Heart,
- 9:27where she talks from her heart or from spirit,
- 9:30and then she takes you through a guided meditation
- 9:32where we just sit in the power. And then after
- 9:34that we have a question answer session if anybody
- 9:37has any questions. And she was talking last week
- 9:41about an interaction that she had with someone
- 9:44that worked in a shop, I think it was. And she
- 9:46just stopped and she asked them how they were.
- 9:49I know in America, there's this culture of asking
- 9:52how people are, but not really listening to the
- 9:56answer. And she was saying that she asked this
- 9:59person how they were. And she asked him again,
- 10:03said, no, really, how are you? Are you all right?
- 10:05And the person interacted with her in such a
- 10:07way That it left him saying to her, thank you
- 10:11for asking about me. I really feel seen today.
- 10:16Imagine the impact that had on that person's
- 10:19life just from asking, how are you? No, no, really,
- 10:22how are you? We all have the power to love. And
- 10:30that love does not need to be gushy. It doesn't
- 10:32need to be. red hearts and red roses and fancy
- 10:37meals out with bouquets of flowers. It can be
- 10:41taking the time to say hello to your neighbor.
- 10:44It can be taking the time to remember that a
- 10:47colleague of yours is going through a hard time
- 10:50and just to stop and ask them at the water cooler
- 10:52or in the canteen or wherever it is, how are
- 10:56you? Are you okay? What's going on with that
- 10:59situation you were talking about a little while
- 11:01ago? At the same time, it can be difficult to
- 11:07have empathy with people. Someone may have wronged
- 11:09you. You find it very difficult to relate to
- 11:12someone else's point of view. Maybe someone cut
- 11:16you up on your drive to work this morning. Maybe
- 11:19you threw them the middle finger. Maybe you swore
- 11:21under your breath. Having that space for love
- 11:24and empathy for someone you dislike is the hardest
- 11:30thing to do. But we're not going to get anywhere
- 11:33in this world if we continue to dislike one another.
- 11:37If we continue to point out our differences rather
- 11:41than point out what unites us. To try and understand
- 11:45those differences and why that person feels the
- 11:48way they feel. Where have they come from? What
- 11:50has been their experience? To witness the injustices,
- 11:55the hypocrisy, the double standards. And this
- 11:58doesn't have to be on a global platform. This
- 12:01can be in your life. This can be something that
- 12:04you have experienced or are experiencing in your
- 12:07own life. It's hard to talk about love when our
- 12:12concept of love is so binary. And as I'm sitting
- 12:15here, I'm really thinking to myself, how can
- 12:18I relate this back to mediumship or spirituality
- 12:22or psychic work? It's nothing too profound. I'm
- 12:26thinking, I'm sat here thinking, oh God, where
- 12:29am I going with this? But actually it's really
- 12:31nothing too profound. When we connect, when we
- 12:36connect to the beyond, the overall feeling and
- 12:40the vast majority of the messages that I get
- 12:42through are from loved ones telling the people
- 12:46that are still here they love them. Empathy,
- 12:51apology and love. Those are the three points
- 12:55that come through over and over again. And if
- 13:00our frame of reference is used by the world beyond
- 13:04as a library and we don't understand empathy,
- 13:08if we can't open ourselves up to at least try
- 13:12to understand those that we don't agree with,
- 13:15how are we going to improve in our mediumship?
- 13:18How can we improve? in the messages that we receive
- 13:22and that we convey to sitters. I'm going to end
- 13:27this first half of this episode with audio from
- 13:30a video on YouTube. The channel is called Dose
- 13:34for Society and the video is called Older People
- 13:37Give Life Advice. Have a listen to this and when
- 13:41the people are talking, don't necessarily think
- 13:42that the advice they are giving is about life.
- 13:45Shift it to think about mediumship as well. And
- 13:49a lot of what they'll say, I think, resonates
- 13:52a heck of a lot. After the break, I'm going to
- 13:55put together a meditation. So if you feel like
- 13:58you need to, or if you feel like you want to,
- 14:00then stay tuned and there'll be a meditation
- 14:03I've put together on the other side of this.
- 14:30What advice would you give to your younger self?
- 14:32Don't be scared. Make the hard decisions. Don't
- 14:35worry yourself about things that might never
- 14:37happen. And what makes you say that? Because
- 14:40I spend my whole life doing it. Well, why is
- 14:44that important? Why would that be? Because you
- 14:46waste emotional energy. You're wasting time on
- 14:49something that A, might not happen and B, you
- 14:50can't change anyway. So true. So then what would
- 14:53you say to young people that are literally struggling
- 14:55with that right now and maybe they're watching?
- 14:57Try not to worry about anything that you can't
- 14:59change. Think of other things that they could
- 15:02do that would improve their lives in other ways,
- 15:04but don't waste time worrying about something
- 15:07that you cannot change. Spread my feathers and
- 15:11let my beauty shine. You had any problem with
- 15:15that? Well, we all do, right? And we all want
- 15:19to make sure that we can give our best selves
- 15:23to everyone and let our inner selves shine. Don't
- 15:26be so afraid. Have you been afraid of something
- 15:29that you needed to overcome? Oh, sure. You know,
- 15:33plenty of times where there's an opportunity
- 15:36that came up and you think about it and you think
- 15:39about it and then you're like, okay, maybe next
- 15:42time and you put it away for a way and then you
- 15:49think later like, oh, I really should have done
- 15:51that. I really should have gone there. take any
- 15:54opportunity that you have for your future. Because
- 15:58as a teenager I had a very simple boring life
- 16:01and then I had the chance to go to Japan and
- 16:04it changed my life. Don't get so caught up in
- 16:07things. Don't get so worried. Have fun. Have
- 16:10a little fun. And why would you say that? Because
- 16:15we're all going to die eventually. You don't
- 16:17want to spend your whole time worried and fretful
- 16:20and anxious about this or that. Seize the moment.
- 16:25Say yes more often. Don't always say no. Don't
- 16:29always think things over too much. I think there's
- 16:31been times when I haven't seized opportunities.
- 16:35I've been too cautious. Whereas now, I sort of
- 16:40feel like that was a bit silly. I should have
- 16:42gone for it more. I don't regret things, but...
- 16:46It's just what I would say, I think. Now I realize
- 16:49over my life I've probably not done things because
- 16:52too worried about what might happen and what
- 16:54might not, whereas really, you know, just go
- 16:56for it. Probably to take my time and to explore
- 17:01and not be afraid to explore and adventure and
- 17:06those things that maybe I think were too big
- 17:09to go ahead and to try, to just have a go. Sometimes
- 17:13fear can hold us back. And when we're younger,
- 17:18like on one side of it we can be fearless, but
- 17:20on the other side of it with fears of the unknown
- 17:23or fears of different and change can be intimidating.
- 17:30Ask yourself why you're afraid. Ask yourself
- 17:33where that fear is coming from. and then begin
- 17:37to investigate that and press forward into it.
- 17:41And if you need to make a change, make a change.
- 17:43If you need to step in another direction, then
- 17:45step in another direction. But don't let it hold
- 17:48you back from following and chasing your dreams.
- 17:52Thank you. Welcome back, everyone. I hope that
- 17:57three and a half minute audio clip brought a
- 18:00smile to your face. It certainly did. I've listened
- 18:03to that a couple of times now and... I thought,
- 18:06am I cheating by taking something from YouTube
- 18:09and putting it onto my own podcast? Yes, probably.
- 18:13However, things are there to be shared. And I
- 18:17think the whole point of this episode is love.
- 18:20Love is there to be shared. And on that topic
- 18:25of sharing the love, I put together a meditation,
- 18:29which I'm going to play in a moment. If you wish
- 18:31to take part, then by all means, please do. Just
- 18:35the only thing I would ask is make sure that
- 18:38it's safe for you to participate. If you're driving,
- 18:40do not do this. Make sure you are sat somewhere
- 18:44and that you are safe, free from distraction.
- 18:48The point of this meditation is to hold love
- 18:52for yourself and to hold love for someone else,
- 18:56whether that be a loved one, whether that be
- 18:59someone that you're finding it difficult to love
- 19:02at the moment. The point is to share your love
- 19:06because that is what we do in our mediumship.
- 19:09We share the love that we feel from beyond to
- 19:13our sitter. So sit back, relax and enjoy. Take
- 19:39a moment to settle wherever you are and if it
- 19:43feels comfortable gently close your eyes. Begin
- 19:51by noticing your breath. No need to change it.
- 19:58Just notice the inhale and the exhale. Allow
- 20:20your shoulders to drop. Let your jaw soften.
- 20:31Let your body arrive in this moment. Let go of
- 20:38the day's tensions. This time is for you. An
- 20:45opportunity to feel an opportunity to forgive
- 20:50and an opportunity to allow your love to grow.
- 21:16Imagine a soft warm light forming in the centre
- 21:22of your chest. This light is not blinding, it's
- 21:30not intense. It is steady, quiet, present. With
- 21:47each inhale, this light gently grows. And with
- 21:53each exhale, it softens and spreads. This light
- 22:03is love. Not the loud kind. Not the performative
- 22:10kind. But the quiet, enduring kind. the kind
- 22:21of love that holds you even when you feel tired
- 22:24the kind of love that stays when you don't have
- 22:29the answers allow this light to fill your chest
- 22:42expanding past your ribs into your shoulders
- 22:53down your arms and into your hands let it move
- 23:11up into your throat past your jaw your cheeks
- 23:23up to your eyes to the top of your head let it
- 23:46move down into your stomach past your hips through
- 23:59your legs all the way to your feet you don't
- 24:19need to force anything You don't need to fix
- 24:24anything You don't need to become anything else
- 24:31Just notice what it feels like to be held in
- 24:42gentle love Imagine this soft light expanding
- 25:17beyond you. This light is just enough to include
- 25:29someone else. Maybe it's someone you love. Someone
- 25:42who is struggling. someone you don't understand
- 25:47or someone who feels afraid. This light is not
- 26:00going to save the world. This light is not going
- 26:04to solve everything. But in this place, you are
- 26:11safe. There are no stories, there are no arguments
- 26:18and there are no conditions. In this place, you
- 26:26are both safe. In this place that you share with
- 26:39this other person, there is only an intention.
- 26:45May you be held in love. May you be safe. May
- 26:53you feel supported. I will leave you here for
- 27:07a few moments. Just you. This light of love.
- 27:14and this other person and as I leave you notice
- 27:20how simple that intention is may you be held
- 27:25in love may you be safe may you feel supported
- 30:51Notice your breath, breathing in and breathing
- 30:57out. Breathing in, breathing out. Return your
- 31:07awareness to the space that you are in. Allow
- 31:13your feet to feel the surface beneath you. Allow
- 31:19your body to feel the air around you. When you
- 31:26are ready, gently open your eyes and return to
- 31:31yourself.
