- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. Jordan, your house is so friendly.
- 0:04Speaker 2: These are the best, smartest people money can buy. I
- 0:09Speaker 2: will tell you. I will tell you. Did you, could
- 0:12Speaker 2: you feel them watching that clip? Just like.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Was everyone gripping their own, like, steering wheel? Yes.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Everybody's holding. Everybody's like, what am I going to do?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Are you addicted to playing characters who have to get
- 0:25Speaker 2: out of stressful situations?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. It's an issue. It is.
- 0:30Speaker 2: You just want to be in a place of tension
- 0:32Speaker 2: and uncertainty at all times.
- 0:33Speaker 1: That's right. It's right. It's my therapist's whole idea of healing,
- 0:38Speaker 1: I guess.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Let me tell you, as long as you can work
- 0:41Speaker 2: in Hollywood and use that as therapy, you are doing
- 0:43Speaker 2: something right. Congratulations.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Thank you. Yes. Yes. I'm so excited for people to
- 0:52Speaker 1: see the show. And I brought you this gift. It
- 0:55Speaker 1: didn't used to have my face on it, but now
- 0:57Speaker 1: it does.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Your face is out of book.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I know. Is that? And I didn't write it.
- 1:09Speaker 2: You didn't write it?
- 1:11Speaker 1: No. Harlan Coben wrote it. Do we have fans here?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, you're part of the Harlan Coben. You're part
- 1:18Speaker 2: of the HCU now. You're in his universe.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I mean, he's like a whole genre. It's like science fiction, westerns,
- 1:24Speaker 1: and Harlan Coben.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Are you ready for the Harlan Coben superfans? I'm ready.
- 1:30Speaker 2: You're ready?
- 1:30Speaker 1: I'm ready.
- 1:31Speaker 2: They're going to come? This is great. I like that
- 1:33Speaker 2: you're like, there's a new Netflix series. Do you want
- 1:35Speaker 2: to read the book first? How much time do you
- 1:37Speaker 2: think I have, Brit?
- 1:38Speaker 1: For God's sakes. You must have a lot.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I have so much free time. Let me tell you.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It is great. I binged it this past week.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Oh, thank you.
- 1:46Speaker 2: It's fantastic. For the people who haven't seen it, I
- 1:49Speaker 2: don't want to give away any spoilers.
- 1:50Speaker 1: No, we can't.
- 1:51Speaker 2: What's happening with I Will Find You?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Okay, so it's about a journalist played by me. Congratulations.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Thank you. You were my inspiration.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Thank you. It really shines on screen. Yeah, you can
- 2:05Speaker 2: see it.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Right? Okay, good. I'm glad you saw that. And then
- 2:10Speaker 1: Sam Worthington plays a fugitive. And we're both on a
- 2:14Speaker 1: journey to find his son. I will find you. It's
- 2:18Speaker 1: a very clear action. Find. And we're doing it.
- 2:24Speaker 2: How do you get into character with a journalist? Are
- 2:26Speaker 2: you doing journalistic research or are you just watching The
- 2:28Speaker 2: Daily Show to try to figure out how I pretend
- 2:30Speaker 2: how to do it?
- 2:31Speaker 1: Like I said, it's just watching you every day.
- 2:33Speaker 2: It's just watching me. Thank you.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Great acting. This is why you get Emmys. They give
- 2:41Speaker 2: you Emmys because of this sort of research.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Well, I do feel like journalism and acting,
- 2:48Speaker 1: they're sort of spiritual cousins. There's a shared DNA, right?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Your job and our job is to really deeply listen
- 2:56Speaker 1: and to find the humanity in people's stories. And that's
- 3:00Speaker 1: what I really connected to about this character. She's... She's
- 3:04Speaker 1: kind of like an old soul. I worked with the
- 3:07Speaker 1: prop department to pack her bag that she has with her,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and inside was a 35 millimeter camera, a handheld recorder,
- 3:16Speaker 1: a notebook. She's just a really hands-on, tactile, boots-on-the-ground kind
- 3:23Speaker 1: of reporter. And yeah, and mostly it was just inspired
- 3:28Speaker 1: by you.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yes, thank you, yes.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I know you did that with Severance as well, correct?
- 3:35Speaker 2: You kept sort of a journal of some of the
- 3:38Speaker 2: paintings that your character would make. Like, you seem to
- 3:42Speaker 2: take your artistic interests and hobbies and use them to
- 3:47Speaker 2: sort of flesh out these characters. Is it fair to
- 3:49Speaker 2: say that you're a painter? You play ukulele from my understanding.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Sometimes.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Sometimes.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And sort of mediocre, but I can.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I think, isn't all ukulele sort of mediocre?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Ooh, burn. Careful, ukulele players come at him.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Those ukulele have one sad strum that still sounds kind
- 4:08Speaker 2: of happy, like, oh, dring.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I do feel like if you're holding a ukulele, like,
- 4:14Speaker 1: you can't really be that sad.
- 4:15Speaker 2: No, I was gonna say, you're finding some joy, right? Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 2: You can't also be that artistically inclined. It's like, get
- 4:20Speaker 2: a guitar, right?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Oh!
- 4:22Speaker 2: Ukulele player's coming at him! Take that, take that, take that.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You better watch out.
- 4:26Speaker 2: You're right, you're right. I need to back up here.
- 4:28Speaker 1: But you have.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I think what I find most compelling about sort of
- 4:31Speaker 2: your journey as well is your interests outside of this.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I know, like, You've done circus. You stepped away from
- 4:37Speaker 2: severance and did circus.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I did.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You have many other hobbies. Do you see your.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I told them, I was like, can you guys
- 4:42Speaker 1: take a break for a second? I'm going to go
- 4:43Speaker 1: do the circus.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And they're like, we've got.
- 4:46Speaker 1: To finish the season. And I'm like, no.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah, we blame you for the fact that there isn't
- 4:50Speaker 2: a season three yet, right? Is that.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Oh, you know, good things take time.
- 4:56Speaker 2: They do, you're right. You know? You can't just shit
- 4:59Speaker 2: it out.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It's a.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Okay, well, that's a totally other story.
- 5:04Speaker 2: That's something totally different. I'm curious. I'm curious as somebody
- 5:09Speaker 2: who is an artist in many senses of it all,
- 5:12Speaker 2: do you view as the other things that you do
- 5:14Speaker 2: in service of your acting projects, or do you see
- 5:17Speaker 2: them as something that live outside of that?
- 5:19Speaker 1: Such a great question. You're such a great journalist.
- 5:22Speaker 2: This is why. And you're so perceptive.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Thank you, yes. I mean, I think anything you do
- 5:32Speaker 1: in life is going to filter into the art that
- 5:35Speaker 1: you make. And....
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, you also do improv. I do.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I started out in improv, and we were trying to
- 5:47Speaker 1: remember how we know each other, and we have no idea.
- 5:50Speaker 1: But we sort of met in Chicago in the improv scene.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I think... There's something about listening. There's something about being
- 5:59Speaker 1: present with another person.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Very much so.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And stepping out into the total mystery of, I have
- 6:05Speaker 1: no idea what's going to happen, and I have to
- 6:07Speaker 1: have my scene partners back.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a beauty in that. It's giving over to
- 6:12Speaker 2: that moment. There's also an acceptance of failure. I know
- 6:15Speaker 2: you still do improv.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yes. But you are- Are you implying that I'm failing
- 6:20Speaker 1: at improv?
- 6:23Speaker 2: I guess what I'm saying, there's an element of what
- 6:25Speaker 2: is fun about improv is that it doesn't work.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:28Speaker 2: 90% of the time. Totally.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Whereas in acting, you get another take. Yes. Right? It's
- 6:33Speaker 1: like the one time in life when you get a
- 6:35Speaker 1: second chance at a moment. And that's what's so exciting
- 6:39Speaker 1: about it. You're like, I'm going to try to get
- 6:41Speaker 1: this more real every time. But in improv, it's one
- 6:44Speaker 1: and done. You're failing and it's over.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Is that harder now? Because people know you. They have
- 6:50Speaker 2: expectations of you. Like, what is your relationship with to
- 6:54Speaker 2: an audience now doing an improv show?
- 6:57Speaker 1: Oh, it's a delight. I mean, it's kind of like
- 7:00Speaker 1: an emotional thrill, I guess, stepping out and just... I
- 7:04Speaker 1: improvised with my college friends from Chicago. And so, yeah,
- 7:08Speaker 1: we just have such a good time, and there's... You're
- 7:11Speaker 1: on the edge of the mystery.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Ooh, the edge of the mystery.
- 7:15Speaker 1: The edge of the mystery.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Are you able to utilize that in doing something like this?
- 7:19Speaker 2: I mean, I Will Find You is, it's, you find
- 7:23Speaker 2: the funny and the comedy that is there, but it
- 7:25Speaker 2: is a taut thriller. It is moving, it is plotted
- 7:28Speaker 2: really well, it's nothing but cliffhangers. Like, how do you
- 7:31Speaker 2: find those moments of levity and those moments of improv
- 7:34Speaker 2: in something that is plotted like this?
- 7:35Speaker 1: Well, Sam and I had a great time on set.
- 7:39Speaker 1: A fun fact is that he and I have the
- 7:41Speaker 1: same birthday.
- 7:45Speaker 2: And when that- And you can see that on screen,
- 7:48Speaker 2: you really can.
- 7:50Speaker 1: It's-it's the... it's purely the reason why we got cast.
- 7:53Speaker 1: If you have an August 2nd birthday, you're gonna be
- 7:56Speaker 1: in our show.
- 7:56Speaker 2: This is... this is what I've been saying. When I've been...
- 7:59Speaker 2: when I've been bugging my agents and managers... Yeah. about
- 8:01Speaker 2: why I'm not getting this role, they're like,- You were
- 8:03Speaker 2: born on the wrong day, man.- Wrong day.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 8:05Speaker 2: That March 9th is no good.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Okay, wait, but have you ever heard of the birthday paradox?
- 8:09Speaker 2: No, I have not.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Okay, this is great. Oh, my God.
- 8:11Speaker 2: See, here's the deal. I go to the MAGA universe,
- 8:12Speaker 2: and I get flat Earth, I get algae deep state,
- 8:15Speaker 2: and now you're giving me birthday paradox? Okay, wait.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Okay, wait.
- 8:19Speaker 2: So, it actually has.
- 8:21Speaker 1: It's actually, like, not even a paradox. It's just math. So,
- 8:25Speaker 1: don't be so scared.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Okay, thank you. Still a little frightening.
- 8:28Speaker 1: So, if two people are in the room together, there's
- 8:30Speaker 1: a one in 365 chance that they have the same birthday, right?
- 8:34Speaker 1: But if there's 23 people in the room, there's a
- 8:37Speaker 1: 50-50 chance. Like, who else here was born on August 2nd?
- 8:44Speaker 2: Is that right? Tyler was. Is that right?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Anyway, it's just math. It's just math.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Look at that.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I think it's like 73, in a room of 73 people,
- 9:00Speaker 1: it's like 99% chance you'll, like that two people will
- 9:03Speaker 1: have the same birthday. And look at this. We did.
- 9:06Speaker 2: You're on the show. How are your acting chops?
- 9:10Speaker 1: I will find you starring you and me in Sam.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Well, Brent, I Will Find You is fantastic. Also, you
- 9:21Speaker 2: won an Emmy for Severance.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Which you all deserve.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I will say, you need to tell that slacker, Ben Stiller,
- 9:32Speaker 2: to stop watching basketball games and get working on season three.
- 9:34Speaker 2: We need that to happen.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I know. We're doing it. We're doing it. I mean.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes. Incredible work. Thank you so much. And congratulations,
- 9:41Speaker 2: most of all, for being on a book, okay?
- 9:44Speaker 1: I'm on a book!
- 9:45Speaker 2: You're on a book! She did it! I can't wait
- 9:46Speaker 2: for you guys to see this book! I Will Find
- 9:49Speaker 2: You is in book form and will also air on
- 9:52Speaker 2: Netflix June 18th. Brent Lauer.
