- 1:08Speaker 2: That's the medeater dot Com slash Tour. We can't wait
- 1:11Speaker 2: to see you there, especially Randall random what stop are
- 1:14Speaker 2: you most excited for?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Well, I thought long and hard about this, and I
- 1:20Speaker 1: was really leaning towards Memphis. Why John Morant and also
- 1:27Speaker 1: the song walking in Memphis, I'd have the opportunity to
- 1:30Speaker 1: humm that to myself a lot, which is really catchy.
- 1:32Speaker 1: But then I ultimately decided that Fayetteville, Arkansas, HM takes
- 1:36Speaker 1: the cake for me because Clay new Comes is the mayor.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I feel like Clay. I feel like Clay and Brent
- 1:42Speaker 1: like bring a lot of Arkansas here. Yes, but I'm like,
- 1:44Speaker 1: is that really Arkansas? So now I get to see
- 1:47Speaker 1: them in their environment, see how see them among their people. Yes,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and I'll just gain a new depth of appreciation for
- 1:56Speaker 1: what is so Arkansas about Clay.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see if it's actually authentic or not.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it might be a shtick. Everybody there might be
- 2:03Speaker 1: looking at Clay and rolling their eyes. But haven't been
- 2:06Speaker 1: to Arkansas since the summer of two thousand and seven.
- 2:14Speaker 2: What was the occasion?
- 2:15Speaker 1: I went down to the White River National Forest some
- 2:19Speaker 1: fishing in the Buffalo River there you go, and did
- 2:21Speaker 1: some fishing.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Randall's genuinely very exciting. He was saying he really looks
- 2:26Speaker 2: forward to just hanging with his buddies and farting on
- 2:28Speaker 2: the bus. I was that was what he said in
- 2:29Speaker 2: a meeting here.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I was born. I was born to hang out on
- 2:33Speaker 1: buses and in locker rooms, okay, and just hold court.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So I'm looking forward to it.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It should be a good week and a lot of
- 2:41Speaker 2: good food. I'm sure there's a locker room here.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I don't ever see you hanging out in there.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Well, there's not nearly enough space for the high jinks
- 2:47Speaker 1: that I again.
- 2:49Speaker 2: The meat eater dot com slash tour pre sale is
- 2:54Speaker 2: happening soon, all right. In a previous episode, we had
- 2:56Speaker 2: a question about what the archery acronym foes he stands for.
- 3:01Speaker 2: The correct answer was front of center, but after some debate,
- 3:04Speaker 2: I also accepted Randal and Yanni's answer a forward of center. Well,
- 3:09Speaker 2: after further research, it has been revealed that forward of
- 3:12Speaker 2: center is totally correct. It turns out that our favorite
- 3:16Speaker 2: archery expert at Ashby, who's been a guest on the
- 3:19Speaker 2: Mediator podcast, says forward of center over front of center,
- 3:23Speaker 2: So FOC can be either one and it doesn't change
- 3:27Speaker 2: the outcome of the game because Jannis and Randall were
- 3:30Speaker 2: awarded that point and then lost to Brody in overtime
- 3:33Speaker 2: because Brody is peer of heart and they are not.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But thanks of course to our attentive listeners who pointed out.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Folks were coming to your defense, Mini sources were revealed
- 3:45Speaker 2: that went with forward of center.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean they're the only thing that's better than
- 3:48Speaker 1: winning is being right, So I'll take that.
- 3:51Speaker 2: This game you get to do both sometimes sometimes, all right.
- 3:54Speaker 2: The shelby and ext for today is a four, so
- 3:56Speaker 2: our winner should get eight correct answers. And with that
- 3:59Speaker 2: we're onto the game game of trivia. Play the drop fill. Look,
- 4:05Speaker 2: I need to know what I stay underwan everything? How's that?
- 4:10Speaker 1: Just tend to win everything?
- 4:18Speaker 2: Game on Suckers. Question one. The topic is natural history.
- 4:23Speaker 2: This first great question is via Anthony Tornetta and it
- 4:26Speaker 2: is multiple choice. Which state has the most active volcanoes? Hawaii, Organ, Washington, Alaska.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Brody quick to answer, whiteboard is down Which state as
- 4:42Speaker 2: the most active volcanoes? Hawaii, Organ, Washington, Alaska. Tough one
- 4:52Speaker 2: for question one.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Most the other day are Mount Saint Helens is shown
- 5:01Speaker 3: a little activity.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Hmm, I could probably dang your reach us if something
- 5:06Speaker 2: happened Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Alaska.
- 5:11Speaker 1: That reminds me of an overtime game that I lost
- 5:14Speaker 1: on one year. What year in Mount Saint Helens erupted?
- 5:17Speaker 2: I don't remember the answer, eighty nineteen eighty. There you
- 5:21Speaker 2: fil is everybody ready Roman doing some erasing. Most active
- 5:26Speaker 2: volcanoes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Alaska. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 5:35Speaker 2: We have Alyssa saying Hawaii, Roman Washington, Randall Washington, John Hawaii, Hillary, Hawaii,
- 5:44Speaker 2: Brody Alaska. The correct answer is Alaska. Only Brody got
- 5:51Speaker 2: it right. Alaska has one hundred and forty one active volcanoes.
- 5:55Speaker 2: That's followed by California with eighteen, Oregon with seven, seventeen,
- 6:00Speaker 2: Washington with seven, Hawaii with five, Utah and Idaho with four,
- 6:06Speaker 2: Mexico with three, Arizona and Nevada with two, and Colorado
- 6:10Speaker 2: and Wyoming with one. Of Alaska's one hundred and forty
- 6:14Speaker 2: one active volcanoes, fifty of them have been active within
- 6:17Speaker 2: the last two hundred and fifty years. Not even close.
- 6:20Speaker 2: You could add up all the other.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Okay Okay volcanoes again.
- 6:25Speaker 2: That's what I was about to say, Spencer Alaska would
- 6:27Speaker 2: still whoop them.
- 6:28Speaker 1: What are some prominent Alaska volcanoes?
- 6:30Speaker 3: Brody, Oh, Mount Alaska, mount Volcano.
- 6:35Speaker 2: We don't have time for all of them. Question two.
- 6:38Speaker 2: The topic is wildlife. Red winged, yellow headed and brewers
- 6:43Speaker 2: are all types of this bird that the Beatles mortalized
- 6:47Speaker 2: with a nineteen sixty eight song Hillary quick to answer, Hillary,
- 6:52Speaker 2: is it because of the three types of this bird?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Or is it because of the Beatles? Hint yep Okay. Winged,
- 7:00Speaker 2: yellow headed and brewers are all types of this bird
- 7:05Speaker 2: that the Beatles immortalized in a nineteen sixty eight song.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Brody again, quick to answer.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I'm an amateur birder spencer.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Red winged, yellow headed, and brewers are all types of
- 7:20Speaker 2: this bird that the Beatles immortalized in a nineteen sixty
- 7:24Speaker 2: eight song Brody and Hillary confident ore other four players
- 7:30Speaker 2: not so much.
- 7:37Speaker 3: What do you got show me?
- 7:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:41Speaker 2: Okay, Brody and Hillary agree, Randall, is that a blank
- 7:46Speaker 2: whiteboard down there?
- 7:47Speaker 1: No, I've got something, but I don't like it.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Red Winged, yellow headed, and brewers are all types of
- 7:54Speaker 2: this bird that the Beatles immortalized in a nineteen sixty
- 7:59Speaker 2: eight song, Oh listen now, coming up with an answer maybe, John,
- 8:07Speaker 2: do you have an answer?
- 8:09Speaker 1: No?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Okay, Roman, do you have an answer?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:11Speaker 4: I've been talking about the Beatles a lot with my friends,
- 8:13Speaker 4: so that was the you know this one.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I'm I'm hopeful, Okay, Randall, I'm.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Torn between two answers. One I think could be a song,
- 8:25Speaker 1: and then one I think could go with one of
- 8:27Speaker 1: these descriptions.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Red winged, yellow headed, and not a Beatles fan random.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I mean the basics.
- 8:36Speaker 3: I don't know more of a Stones.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Guy, Pearl jam ever Clear, Oh that's right, Everclaire really
- 8:43Speaker 1: open and goes catch them.
- 8:45Speaker 2: This weekend I heard night to Randall's been trying to
- 8:48Speaker 2: wrangle a ticket in our company slack channel.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Ever Clear and Sponge.
- 8:53Speaker 2: It's gonna be sick Sponge. I'm not familiar with.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeh, who's Sponge? Just like another nineties.
- 8:58Speaker 2: A lesser ever Clear. They don't have a Santa Monica
- 9:04Speaker 2: or Father of Mine.
- 9:04Speaker 1: No, I mean Santa Monica. If I could just put
- 9:08Speaker 1: one song on repeat.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Have they moved on to the county fair circuit? Is
- 9:11Speaker 3: that where they're at now?
- 9:13Speaker 1: Or yes?
- 9:14Speaker 4: Yes, because I think they've played a county fairy here
- 9:16Speaker 4: in Montana.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Well, exhibit is coming to uh exhibit is coming to
- 9:20Speaker 1: Billings later this month. I'm excited for that.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 9:27Speaker 2: have Alyssa sang, Robin Roman and Randall and John and
- 9:32Speaker 2: Hillary and Brody say blackbird. They got it. The correct
- 9:35Speaker 2: answer is blackbird. The Beatles were singing about the Eurasian
- 9:40Speaker 2: blackbird in their song that's simply called blackbird. At the
- 9:43Speaker 2: end of the tune, you actually hear the song of
- 9:46Speaker 2: a real blackbird. American Songwriter magazine declared it the sixteenth
- 9:50Speaker 2: best Beatles song of all time.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It's not bye bye blackbird. That's not it. That's what
- 9:56Speaker 1: I was thinking of.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that's it.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Blackbirds show up in March because then you know, l
- 10:05Speaker 3: or over.
- 10:06Speaker 2: They just sound like a marsh to me, like I'm
- 10:08Speaker 2: like among fish. I'm near water when I hear a
- 10:11Speaker 2: red cat like cat and tail. That's right. Question three.
- 10:15Speaker 2: The topic is hunting. This is our listener question of
- 10:18Speaker 2: the Week, which was won by Randy Hodge for sending
- 10:21Speaker 2: this great question. Randy is going to get a board
- 10:23Speaker 2: game signed by the crew if you want a chance
- 10:25Speaker 2: to win our listener Question of the Week. Then send
- 10:27Speaker 2: your question to trivia at the meadeater dot com. This
- 10:31Speaker 2: rail with evenly spaced grooves was developed by the military
- 10:36Speaker 2: in the late nineteen eighties and has since become the
- 10:38Speaker 2: most popular rail on rifles. Randy and Brody quick to answer.
- 10:46Speaker 2: This rail with evenly spaced grooves was developed by the
- 10:50Speaker 2: military in the late nineteen eighties, in a sense, become
- 10:53Speaker 2: the most popular rail on rifles. John also has his answer, Hmmm,
- 11:01Speaker 2: what was that grown, Randall?
- 11:03Speaker 1: Oh, just the game's getting exciting again. We started out
- 11:08Speaker 1: with a bird question.
- 11:09Speaker 2: And uh huh volcano volcanoes now guns.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 2: This rail with evenly spaced grooves was developed by the
- 11:17Speaker 2: military in the late nineteen eighties and has since become
- 11:20Speaker 2: the most popular rail on rifle.
- 11:22Speaker 3: We've been doing any parking lot gun transactions lately, Randall?
- 11:29Speaker 1: Not lately. It's been pretty static in that realman, is
- 11:34Speaker 1: everybody ready doing more experiments lately?
- 11:38Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. A lessa without an answer,
- 11:41Speaker 2: Roman says arc. Randall and John say, pic a tinny,
- 11:47Speaker 2: Hillary without an answer, Brody picatinny. The correct answer is
- 11:50Speaker 2: picatinny p I c A t I N n y.
- 11:55Speaker 2: The Picatinny rail is named after the Picatinny Arsenal in
- 11:59Speaker 2: New Jersey, where it was designed and developed. The Picatinny
- 12:03Speaker 2: rail largely replaced the weaver rail for both the military
- 12:07Speaker 2: and civilians. In most cases, accessories designed for weaver rails
- 12:11Speaker 2: will also work on Picatinny rails, but not the other
- 12:15Speaker 2: way around. Randal, do you have anything that still has
- 12:17Speaker 2: a weaver rail on it? No, everything you own is
- 12:20Speaker 2: over over to Picatinny.
- 12:22Speaker 1: All Picatinny or or like a direct a direct mount
- 12:26Speaker 1: like a machine den rail.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Question for the topic is fishing. This Company with a
- 12:31Speaker 2: cloudy Name was purchased by Rappola in nineteen ninety nine
- 12:36Speaker 2: and is best known for the Wigglewart, Thunderstick and Hot
- 12:40Speaker 2: and Top Randall surprisingly optimistic about a fishing question. This
- 12:50Speaker 2: Company with a cloudy Name was purchased by Rappela in
- 12:53Speaker 2: nineteen ninety nine and is best known for the Wigglewart,
- 12:58Speaker 2: Thunderstick and Hot and Top Brody. Do you think you
- 13:04Speaker 2: own a Wigglewart, thunderstick or Hot and Tight?
- 13:07Speaker 1: I do not?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Okay, He also doesn't have an answer yet. Company with
- 13:12Speaker 2: a Cloudy Name was purchased by Rappalla in nineteen ninety nine,
- 13:16Speaker 2: and it's best known for the Wigglewart, thunderstick, and Hot
- 13:21Speaker 2: and Top. John, do you have this one right? I
- 13:23Speaker 2: don't know if I have it right, but I have
- 13:25Speaker 2: an idea. I've had a hot and top before fish
- 13:28Speaker 2: for them. I fished with them in Canada a few times,
- 13:32Speaker 2: and I think I got it. It's folks in the
- 13:35Speaker 2: northern part of the country. I think they like their wigglewarts,
- 13:39Speaker 2: thundersticks and hot and tots.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Be still my heart.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Brody is trying to beat the answer out of his head,
- 13:54Speaker 2: tapping the whiteboard against the bill of his hat. He
- 13:58Speaker 2: still has a blank whiteboard.
- 14:01Speaker 1: No, I got okay, all right?
- 14:03Speaker 2: This company with a cloudy name was purchased by Rappaula
- 14:06Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety nine and is best known for the Wigglewart, thunderstick,
- 14:11Speaker 2: and Hot and Top. It is everybody ready, I go
- 14:22Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers, Alyssa, says Stormy Roman without
- 14:27Speaker 2: an answer Randall, Stormy, John, Storm, Hillary, Nimbus, Brodie Thunderhead.
- 14:35Speaker 2: The correct answer is Storm Why on the end? We
- 14:44Speaker 2: should not give that to them? Right?
- 14:46Speaker 1: Except for John?
- 14:47Speaker 2: John had it right? Storm the company. The company was
- 14:52Speaker 2: created by the Storm brothers in Norman, Oklahoma in the
- 14:56Speaker 2: nineteen sixties. The wigglewarts that were made maid by Storm
- 15:00Speaker 2: prior to the buyout in nineteen ninety nine had become
- 15:04Speaker 2: coveted among anglers. According to collectors, the og wigglewarts used
- 15:08Speaker 2: a misaligned mold that created the lures. Famously erratic action
- 15:13Speaker 2: Rappleup perfected the mold in the early two thousands, which
- 15:17Speaker 2: supposedly ruined the crank Baits enticing dance. Question five topic
- 15:23Speaker 2: is cooking, and this next great question is via Carl Sutman.
- 15:28Speaker 2: This parasitic flatworm with a five letter name can show
- 15:32Speaker 2: up in your liver after eating undercooked fish. Brody and
- 15:39Speaker 2: Randall already have their whiteboards down. This parasitic flatworm with
- 15:44Speaker 2: a five letter name can show up in your liver
- 15:46Speaker 2: after eating undercooked fish.
- 15:49Speaker 3: I wonder if I got any of those things in
- 15:51Speaker 3: my liver.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Hmmm, I think you'd know by now.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe not.
- 15:57Speaker 2: They had some uh, some seria symptoms we can talk
- 16:01Speaker 2: about in the flavor text. This parasitic flatworm with a
- 16:05Speaker 2: five letter name can show up in your liver after
- 16:08Speaker 2: eating undercooked fish. Our other four players do not have
- 16:15Speaker 2: an answer. Parasitic flatworm with a five letter name.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Not to dwell on past questions, but I think stormy
- 16:26Speaker 1: thunderstick sounds like a much better lure than a storm thunderstick.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It doesn't the tongue.
- 16:31Speaker 2: It was their last name, so they just to go
- 16:33Speaker 2: with Storm.
- 16:34Speaker 1: That's fair Storm.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Brothers. I had Storm, and I thought the same thing
- 16:39Speaker 2: as you, and I was like, it's Storm.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I just remember when we went to went up to
- 16:45Speaker 1: the boundary waters with my boy scout troop and they
- 16:50Speaker 1: asked the outfitter we're using what lures to bring and
- 16:54Speaker 1: just said storm thundersticks.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Just storm thundersticks, long crank bait. They got a long,
- 17:01Speaker 2: slender body.
- 17:02Speaker 1: It's like the only thing that And I was like, interesting,
- 17:05Speaker 1: no spoons.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Did you make it to eagle Scout status?
- 17:08Speaker 1: I did, Yes, I am an eagle scout.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Wow, I didn't know we were among Yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I'm so confident.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Parasitic flatworm with a five letter name that can show
- 17:23Speaker 2: up in your liver after eating undercooked fish. It's everybody ready.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Troop two eighty six, Dan Beard Council, what'd you do
- 17:32Speaker 1: to get your Eagle Scout status? My project. There's a
- 17:37Speaker 1: farm that was owned by like the Cincinnati Nature Center,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and they do a bunch of like outdoor head classes there.
- 17:43Speaker 1: So we did a couple of projects for them, one
- 17:45Speaker 1: of which was rebuilding a giant wagon that they use,
- 17:50Speaker 1: and then we built stairs down to a pond so it.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Was more accessible for real boy scouts.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, just.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Pulsoon, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Alyssa
- 18:00Speaker 2: saying blood, Roman without an answer, Randall says fluke, John
- 18:05Speaker 2: and Hillary without an answer. Brody says fluke. The correct
- 18:08Speaker 2: answer is fluke. Liver flukes create symptoms like fever, abdominal pain, nausea,
- 18:15Speaker 2: and vomiting, and if left untreated, they can cause serious
- 18:18Speaker 2: organ damage. You can get a liver fluke by eating
- 18:21Speaker 2: undercooked fish, aquatic plants that weren't properly washed, or from
- 18:26Speaker 2: drinking contaminated water. All right, we're halfway through the game
- 18:29Speaker 2: of trivia. Phil, give us a scoreboard update.
- 18:33Speaker 4: You have to question five. We have a Lyssa with
- 18:35Speaker 4: zero points, Roman and Hillary have one point a piece,
- 18:39Speaker 4: Randall and John are tied up with three, and in
- 18:41Speaker 4: first place is Brody Henderson with four points.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Tough round so far. Question six. The topic is conservation.
- 18:51Speaker 2: This next great question is via Titus McKenty This was
- 18:55Speaker 2: the third most visited national park in twenty twenty three,
- 19:00Speaker 2: which shares its name with a hill in Jerusalem. Randall
- 19:06Speaker 2: has his answer. This was the third most visited national
- 19:11Speaker 2: park in twenty twenty three, which shares its name with
- 19:15Speaker 2: a hill in Jerusalem. Randal the only player with an
- 19:20Speaker 2: answer so far. Again. Question six topic is conservation. Alyssa
- 19:29Speaker 2: has now joined him. This was the third most visited
- 19:32Speaker 2: national park in twenty twenty three, which shares its name
- 19:36Speaker 2: with a hill in Jerusalem. I don't even know if
- 19:39Speaker 2: this is a national Hmmm.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I'm tempted to add a why to this, just to
- 19:44Speaker 1: make a funny bit.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Now I know I'm wrong to the end, to the end.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I guess if you have a question an answer that
- 19:51Speaker 1: ends in why, it would be a problem.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It would be really funny.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Fill your hats thrown me off.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I thought that too. I never see phil in ahead.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Oh this is this is how you know. I haven't
- 20:02Speaker 4: done my I didn't do anything, my hair.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I was gonna say something happened.
- 20:06Speaker 4: No.
- 20:09Speaker 2: It was the third most visited national park in twenty
- 20:13Speaker 2: twenty three, which shares its name with a Hill in Jerusalem.
- 20:20Speaker 1: It's like worried when you walked in that maybe cut
- 20:23Speaker 1: yourself or something bumped your head again.
- 20:25Speaker 4: I'm in mourning about it again. One.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I don't know, Brodie, do you have an answer?
- 20:31Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:33Speaker 1: He's dropping door.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Third most visited park in twenty twenty three.
- 20:38Speaker 3: I'll be mad when I hear it.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I'm sure he's just going to the blank whiteboard for this. Yeah,
- 20:44Speaker 2: it's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 20:49Speaker 2: have Alissa saying Nazareth, Roman Yosemite. Randall says Zion, John Acadia,
- 20:58Speaker 2: Hillary Yosemite. Already without an answer. The correct answer is
- 21:02Speaker 2: Zion National Park. It was officially protected in nineteen oh
- 21:06Speaker 2: nine as Muckin'toweep National Monument, which is a piute word
- 21:11Speaker 2: for straight canyon, but in nineteen eighteen, the Park Service
- 21:15Speaker 2: changed it to Zion National Monument, which is what the
- 21:18Speaker 2: Mormon settlers referred to the area. As historians say, the
- 21:22Speaker 2: name change was because the Park Service believed people were
- 21:25Speaker 2: less likely to visit an area if they couldn't pronounce
- 21:28Speaker 2: the name. A year later, a year after that, Zion
- 21:32Speaker 2: went from a National monument to a National park. Question seven.
- 21:36Speaker 2: The topic is woodsmanship. What month has the longest night
- 21:42Speaker 2: of the year in the Northern Hemisphere? What month has
- 21:49Speaker 2: the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere?
- 21:54Speaker 2: This is question seven. I think Randall's correct answer on
- 22:00Speaker 2: the last one's tied him up with Brody. What month
- 22:07Speaker 2: has the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere? Randall,
- 22:15Speaker 2: after a lot of thinking down there, has placed his
- 22:18Speaker 2: whiteboard on the table.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I just can't tell if I'm under thinking this or over.
- 22:26Speaker 2: What month has the longest night of the year in
- 22:29Speaker 2: the Northern Hemisphere.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Calendar questions have been throwing me off.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Recently too, the what was the one? Oh, pheasants, peasants, hatching.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Birds? Calendars h a lot of weak spots in my
- 22:43Speaker 1: game these days.
- 22:44Speaker 2: What month has the longest night of the year in
- 22:47Speaker 2: the Northern Hemisphere? Is everybody ready? Okay? Hillary's done some racing,
- 22:57Speaker 2: John coming up with another answer, Roman, do you have
- 23:04Speaker 2: this one right?
- 23:08Speaker 1: I'm similar to Randal. I don't know if I'm over
- 23:09Speaker 1: underthinking this one. I mean, nuts, it's tough, it's really tough.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Alyssa saying January,
- 23:18Speaker 2: Roman January, Randall December, John February, Hillary December, Brody December.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Direct answer is December. Half of our players got that
- 23:33Speaker 2: one right. This is known as the winter solstice, which
- 23:36Speaker 2: is almost always on December twenty first, while the summer
- 23:39Speaker 2: solstice is in June. That means it's flipped for our
- 23:42Speaker 2: friends in the southern Hemisphere who have the summer solstice
- 23:45Speaker 2: in December and winter Solstice in June.
- 23:50Speaker 3: I was wondering if maybe there is some catch up
- 23:52Speaker 3: in the.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Arctic Question eight. The topic is located south of Cape
- 24:03Speaker 2: Cod and west of Nantucket. This island hosts one of
- 24:07Speaker 2: America's longest running fishing tournaments. Located south of Cape Cod
- 24:15Speaker 2: and west of Nantucket, this island hosts one of America's
- 24:19Speaker 2: longest running fishing tournaments. Hillary, a new Englander, looks confident.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Randall also likes his answer, Brody's still thinking. Located south
- 24:35Speaker 2: of Cape Cod and west of Nantucket, this island hosts
- 24:38Speaker 2: one of America's longest running fishing tournaments. This is question eight,
- 24:44Speaker 2: so we'll get another scoreboard update from Phil after this. Hillary,
- 24:50Speaker 2: have you been to this place? What were you doing there? Okay,
- 24:57Speaker 2: because you don't want to give anyone the answer, or
- 25:00Speaker 2: you were just up to some okay. Located south of
- 25:04Speaker 2: Cape Cod and west of Nantucket, this island hosts one
- 25:08Speaker 2: of America's longest running fishing tournaments. Okay, that's fun. Randall,
- 25:16Speaker 2: who also likes his answer, have you been to this place?
- 25:19Speaker 1: No?
- 25:22Speaker 2: Brody has his whiteboard down. Brody, what percent chance do
- 25:26Speaker 2: you have this one?
- 25:26Speaker 1: Right?
- 25:27Speaker 2: No?
- 25:27Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Let's say fifty.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Okay, mmm, all right. Hillary didn't want to say what
- 25:35Speaker 2: she was doing at this place, and now.
- 25:37Speaker 4: She sounds like she was eating clam chowder.
- 25:39Speaker 3: I don't even know what I wrote down.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Okay, is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers?
- 25:50Speaker 2: With Melissa saying Boston Roman Without an answer, Randall says
- 25:54Speaker 2: Martha's Vineyard, John, Long Island, Hillary and Brody say Martha's Vineyard.
- 26:00Speaker 2: They got it. The correct answer is Martha's Vineyard. Simply
- 26:05Speaker 2: referred to as the Derby, this fishing tournament has been
- 26:08Speaker 2: going on since nineteen forty six. This year it runs
- 26:12Speaker 2: from September fourteenth to October eighteenth, meaning it's happening right now.
- 26:16Speaker 2: There are daily weigh ins each morning and night, with
- 26:19Speaker 2: two hundred and thirty nine fish registered in the first
- 26:22Speaker 2: three days so far. The big fish is a nineteen
- 26:25Speaker 2: pound elba core tuna. Hillary, What were you fishing for
- 26:29Speaker 2: at Martha's vineyard.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I've gone out on a boat, tried.
- 26:32Speaker 4: To catch tuna.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Tried, didn't work though. Okay. How was the clam chowder though?
- 26:38Speaker 4: Pull that? Pull up, mic up, Hillary, Sorry, the clam
- 26:41Speaker 4: chowder there is top not good. Guys, get the New England,
- 26:45Speaker 4: not the Manhattan.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I didn't think they would serve that weird.
- 26:48Speaker 1: They don't.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Oh, okay, it's it's a rookie if you did that.
- 26:55Speaker 4: What's the difference. I don't know that.
- 26:57Speaker 1: The one is cream. New England is cream based. Manhattan
- 27:00Speaker 1: is like tomato based.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Oh and Brody said on an early earlier episode that
- 27:07Speaker 2: he liked the Manhattan as a kid.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Right, yeah, yeah, that's like it was like Campbell's.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Sure Campbells place in the world, but.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Not Yeah, art, Phil give us a scoreboard update with
- 27:18Speaker 2: two questions to go.
- 27:20Speaker 5: That's noth Alyssa is playing the game. We got Roman
- 27:28Speaker 5: with one point, John and Hillary have three points a piece,
- 27:31Speaker 5: and now all tied up at Randall and Brody with six.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Given that a list is not on the board. I
- 27:37Speaker 1: am inclined to revisit the storm storm, but.
- 27:44Speaker 2: This had a big meeting. She had to lead it
- 27:46Speaker 2: for the whole company. It was unfair to even ask
- 27:48Speaker 2: her to come here.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll take all.
- 27:50Speaker 2: This, thank you. Question nine, the topic is conservation. This
- 27:55Speaker 2: alliterative agriculture practice that reduces erosion and weeds is defined
- 28:01Speaker 2: as quote a crop grown for the protection and enrichment
- 28:05Speaker 2: of soil. Randall already has his answer, John as well.
- 28:14Speaker 2: This alliterative agriculture practice that reduces erosion and weeds is
- 28:20Speaker 2: defined as a crop grown for the protection and enrichment
- 28:25Speaker 2: of soil. Brody looks stumped again. This is question nine.
- 28:36Speaker 2: This alliterative agriculture practice that reduces erosion and weeds is
- 28:40Speaker 2: defined as a crop grown for the protection and enrichment
- 28:44Speaker 2: of soil. For players with blank whiteboards in the room,
- 28:49Speaker 2: this is a stumper. Brody now coming up with an answer. Maybe, Randall,
- 28:59Speaker 2: do you think Brody's going to at this one right?
- 29:02Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm not trying to weigh in on this.
- 29:06Speaker 2: How about you.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I feel like I blew. I think I have a
- 29:09Speaker 1: good shot. I feel like I blew my chance with
- 29:11Speaker 1: storm Stormy.
- 29:13Speaker 2: You're right there.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I was hopeful that he was going to fumble on
- 29:17Speaker 1: the Martha's Vineyard question. But I also knew that he
- 29:20Speaker 1: knew of the Martha's Vineyard Derby.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Boy, you knew that he knew of the Derby.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I did because I brought it up in a meeting
- 29:28Speaker 1: two years ago.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Really, and I never forget I'd never heard of it
- 29:33Speaker 2: till I was writing this question.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Oh, there's a fabulous feature in Field and Stream or
- 29:37Speaker 1: Outdoor Life many many years ago about the Derby. And
- 29:41Speaker 1: then also it's like a classic. There's a book about
- 29:48Speaker 1: striper fishing, and I think there's like a whole chapter
- 29:51Speaker 1: about the Derby in that what's it called?
- 29:54Speaker 2: I thought I found something that the rest of the
- 29:56Speaker 2: country didn't know about.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Oh no, no, it's like damn. I think it does
- 30:00Speaker 1: claim to be the oldest fishing tournament.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I couldn't find that on their website, so I just
- 30:05Speaker 2: put one of the oldest, knowing that there couldn't be
- 30:07Speaker 2: many that ad been going on for longer. This alliterative
- 30:11Speaker 2: agriculture practice that reduces erosion and weeds is defined as
- 30:17Speaker 2: a crop grown for the protection and enrichment of soil, Brody.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Do you have this one right?
- 30:23Speaker 3: I think I got a chance came to me. I
- 30:26Speaker 3: think it might be right.
- 30:28Speaker 2: It's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. Alyssa says,
- 30:34Speaker 2: what's that saying? Mitigation Roman without an answer Randall cover crop,
- 30:39Speaker 2: John cover crop, Hillary, cash crop, Brody cover crop. The
- 30:44Speaker 2: correct answer is cover crop. A cover crop also enhances
- 30:49Speaker 2: water availability, water filtration, improves aeration, helps control pests and diseases,
- 30:56Speaker 2: and increases biodiversity. Some examples of cover crops include barley,
- 31:01Speaker 2: alpha oates, sorghum, buckwheat, rye grass, and clover. A twenty
- 31:06Speaker 2: twenty five USDA survey found that farmers who plant cover
- 31:10Speaker 2: crops are more likely to adopt other conservation practices as well.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Here's a correct answer review so far one Alaska two,
- 31:19Speaker 2: Blackbird three, Picatinny four, Storm five, Fluke six, Zion National
- 31:27Speaker 2: Park seven, December eight, Martha's Vineyard nine cover crop Phil.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Let's get one last scoreboard update.
- 31:37Speaker 4: It's down to Randall Imbrodi seven points apiece. Going into
- 31:40Speaker 4: question ten.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Question ten, the topic is hunting. This is the home
- 31:46Speaker 2: city of Lee Ellis and Drew Carroll from Seek One,
- 31:50Speaker 2: which is where they got famous for killing giant urban whitetails.
- 31:57Speaker 2: This is the home city of Lee Ellis and Drew
- 32:01Speaker 2: Carroll from Seek One, which is where they got famous
- 32:04Speaker 2: for killing giant urban whitetails.
- 32:07Speaker 1: When I glanced at the board, I thought it said
- 32:10Speaker 1: the home city of Drew Carrey, and I got super excited,
- 32:14Speaker 1: and then I couldn't figure out the connection to the
- 32:16Speaker 1: media universe.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Drew Carrey thinks, uh, it could be well, I.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Know, yes, exact Cleveland, Rand Is that just the Drew
- 32:27Speaker 4: Carrey show.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I should say the character Drew Carrey, not not
- 32:32Speaker 1: the actor showman, famous showman Drew Carrey.
- 32:36Speaker 2: This is the home city of Lee Ellis and Drew
- 32:39Speaker 2: Carroll from Seek One, which is where they got famous
- 32:42Speaker 2: for killing giant urban whitetails. Randall, do you like your answer?
- 32:46Speaker 2: Not in the least, Brody. Do you like your answer?
- 32:49Speaker 5: No?
- 32:50Speaker 2: Okay, not something I'm familiar with. How about you, John? No?
- 32:59Speaker 1: Okay?
- 33:00Speaker 2: This maybe a zero percent. This is the home city
- 33:03Speaker 2: of Lee Ellis and Drew Carroll from Seek One, which
- 33:06Speaker 2: is where they got famous for killing giant urban white tails.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Drew carry the man was indeed born in Cleveland, Ohio.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I figured he liked it too much to yeah from
- 33:15Speaker 2: somewhere else.
- 33:15Speaker 1: He really leaned into it.
- 33:18Speaker 4: Maybe a little too much.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Maybe a little too much.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Is everybody ready, Moses Cleveland, Go ahead and reveal your answers,
- 33:25Speaker 2: Alyssa says Milwaukee, Roman, Oklahoma City, Randall Columbus, John Pittsburgh,
- 33:32Speaker 2: Hillary Tallahassee, Brody Washington, d C. The correct answer is Atlanta.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Nobody got it. Lee and Drew created Seek One in
- 33:46Speaker 2: twenty fifteen. They killed multiple booner bucks within city limits,
- 33:50Speaker 2: which isn't as crazy as it might sound. Much of
- 33:52Speaker 2: Atlanta's deerherd has genetics that trace back to stocking programs
- 33:56Speaker 2: from the nineteen forties and fifties, where Wisconsin w were
- 34:00Speaker 2: cut loose in the southeast. The Southern Outdoorsman podcast says
- 34:04Speaker 2: those urban bucks are able to maximize their antler growth
- 34:07Speaker 2: through low stress and lots of birthdays. Alyssa, you've you
- 34:11Speaker 2: spent part of your life in Atlanta. You remember seeing
- 34:13Speaker 2: some giant white tails there? I do not know weren't
- 34:16Speaker 2: around in your day? No, I mean I definitely saw
- 34:19Speaker 2: a white tail, but I did not I would not
- 34:22Speaker 2: have thought that that was the answer mini booter bucks
- 34:25Speaker 2: have been killed by them, I think, and one over
- 34:27Speaker 2: two hundred inches. Geez seek one boys, All right, we're
- 34:30Speaker 2: going to overtime play the drop phill.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Tiebreaker.
- 34:36Speaker 5: A lot of these lately.
- 34:37Speaker 4: Yeah, we would remember that long stretch we had with
- 34:39Speaker 4: no tie breaker.
- 34:40Speaker 2: We had like three months. Yeah, it didn't happen, and
- 34:42Speaker 2: now it's been like every other episode. All right, down
- 34:46Speaker 2: for the tie breaker. It is Randall and Brody. This
- 34:50Speaker 2: will be a numerical question. Whoever is closest between them
- 34:53Speaker 2: will be declared the winner. But our other four players
- 34:56Speaker 2: are going to also participate because if somebody gets it
- 34:59Speaker 2: right on the knows meat eater will add an extra
- 35:02Speaker 2: one hundred dollars donation to the end of the game.
- 35:05Speaker 2: The tie breaking topic is cooking. A twenty seventeen study
- 35:10Speaker 2: found that the average whitetail buck in Ohio yields this
- 35:14Speaker 2: many pounds of boneless meat. A twenty seventeen study found
- 35:22Speaker 2: that the average whitetail buck in Ohio yields this many
- 35:27Speaker 2: pounds of boneless meat. I'll give you a little more context.
- 35:32Speaker 2: This study looked at the butcher result of one hundred
- 35:36Speaker 2: and fifteen whitetail deer from Ohio's gun season. We'll have
- 35:42Speaker 2: you do a whole number. That way you have a
- 35:45Speaker 2: chance of getting it right on the nose. A twenty
- 35:50Speaker 2: seventeen study found that the average whitetail buck in Ohio
- 35:54Speaker 2: yields this many pounds of boneless meat. Hillar, we want,
- 36:00Speaker 2: we want you to come up with an answer so
- 36:01Speaker 2: you can get it right on the nose. That was
- 36:04Speaker 2: like from one hundred and fifteen whitetailed deer from Ohio's
- 36:08Speaker 2: gun season. I looked at the butcher results of those.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Like from processors. Yes, I feel like.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Again, we'll do a whole number on this one. Twenty
- 36:28Speaker 2: seventeen study found that the average whitetailed buck in Ohio
- 36:33Speaker 2: yields this many pounds of bonus meat. A lot of
- 36:40Speaker 2: thinking from Brody and Randall. I've seen Randall write down
- 36:43Speaker 2: a lot of numbers over there. Yeah, from your neck
- 36:48Speaker 2: of the woods. I know you processed many bucks I
- 36:50Speaker 2: imagine that were killed during Ohio's gun season.
- 36:54Speaker 1: No, never killed a buck during gun season in Ohio.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Did you use one of those arrow guns?
- 37:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 37:01Speaker 1: Barnett Rhino nice?
- 37:04Speaker 2: All right? Is everybody ready came with.
- 37:06Speaker 1: A scope and five bolts.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Alyssa saying
- 37:11Speaker 2: sixty four pounds, Roman forty four, John sixty five, Hillary,
- 37:17Speaker 2: who says seventy three. Our two players left. We have
- 37:22Speaker 2: Randall saying sixty seven, Brody saying fifty three. The correct
- 37:28Speaker 2: answer is sixty three pounds Alyssa. It is only one
- 37:33Speaker 2: off and bro excuse me, and Randall is our winner.
- 37:36Speaker 2: He was four pounds. Oh to be specific, it was
- 37:39Speaker 2: sixty two point five to one pounds. Again, this study
- 37:43Speaker 2: looked at the butcher results for one hundred and fifteen
- 37:46Speaker 2: white tailed deer from Ohio's gun season. They found that
- 37:49Speaker 2: the average buck weighed one hundred and thirty pounds field
- 37:52Speaker 2: dressed and had sixty three pounds of boneless meat, while
- 37:55Speaker 2: a dough was ninety two pounds field dressed and had
- 37:58Speaker 2: forty five pounds of bone. Meet. They determined the meat
- 38:02Speaker 2: yield off of a field dressed whitetail is about forty
- 38:05Speaker 2: nine percent. Some excellent guesses in that see John Randall,
- 38:10Speaker 2: Hillary All very very close to the correct answer of
- 38:13Speaker 2: sixty three pounds. All right, Randal, what are you doing
- 38:16Speaker 2: with your five hundred dollars today.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Well, I'm I'm really far behind on my list of
- 38:22Speaker 1: donation requests. It's become embarrassing. Lately. We've given the tiebreaker
- 38:27Speaker 1: and given some recent events, I'd like to donate this
- 38:30Speaker 1: to the Ohio Conservation Federation.
- 38:32Speaker 2: What do they do?
- 38:34Speaker 1: They work on all types of issues affecting sportsmen and
- 38:37Speaker 1: women in Ohio. And when I was at the tailgate tour,
- 38:42Speaker 1: I was about to walk a good long distance to
- 38:45Speaker 1: the game and Matt from the Ohio Conservation Federation game
- 38:50Speaker 1: ride all the way down all the way down to
- 38:53Speaker 1: Ohio Stadium.
- 38:54Speaker 2: A five hundred dollars uber.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, they're they're working right now. I believe
- 39:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna butcher this probably, but there's some timberlands that
- 39:06Speaker 1: are being divested and they're trying to fundraise to help
- 39:10Speaker 1: the state acquire them to provide more access for hunters
- 39:13Speaker 1: and anglers in Ohio. So that's the that's their priority
- 39:16Speaker 1: right now, is working with the state legislature to get
- 39:18Speaker 1: that across the line.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Five hundred dollars going to the Ohio Conservation Federation. I
- 39:24Speaker 2: think the the moral of the storiers just pick up hitchhikers. Yeah,
- 39:27Speaker 2: maybe they'll payoff in the future.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean some day.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Maybe looked like one that day.
- 39:33Speaker 1: You know, just just just a kind man, and I
- 39:36Speaker 1: learned a lot from them, so I appreciate it.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Mel Don Randall join us next week for more Meat
- 39:40Speaker 2: Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Spencer from South Dakota.
- 39:46Speaker 2: He's the host, using those smooth, mellow tones. He lays
- 39:50Speaker 2: them questions down.
- 39:58Speaker 1: He likes taking those two and three year old bucks.
- 40:02Speaker 1: It is an avid amateur lockhow
