- 0:06Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:10Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Barth Blazarre and Lazarren. Hello, everybody nailed
- 0:15Speaker 1: it joined as always my powers gain dablin no risk.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex bars.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Remember a couple of years ago, the conversation was, well,
- 0:27Speaker 2: the bills of Josh Allen their wagon. The Dolphins just
- 0:29Speaker 2: signed this wonder kid, offensive genius named Mike McDaniel, and
- 0:32Speaker 2: look out, the Jets got future Hall of Fame round Rodgers.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Like there weren't people saying for the next five years,
- 0:36Speaker 2: the Patriots can't win the division. Don't even bother, right,
- 0:39Speaker 2: and I just it's not to take a victory lap
- 0:41Speaker 2: or like you know, defend the wall wave the Patriots flag.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Its That's not how the NFL works. There is an undercurrent,
- 0:48Speaker 2: an active undercurrent in the NFL designed to make the
- 0:51Speaker 2: good teams bad and the bad teams good. With the
- 0:55Speaker 2: great everybody back to the men right with the great
- 0:57Speaker 2: organizations know how to do is hold off that under
- 1:00Speaker 2: current as long as possible. Twenty years is ridiculous. Yeah,
- 1:04Speaker 2: twenty years is by no means the standard. It never
- 1:07Speaker 2: will be. It will never be done again, Catch twenty two.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Are you sure about that? Never be done again? Yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 1: I'm not to that. I'm pretty sure about that too.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Not to that. Love Patriots is set up pretty good, Barth.
- 1:23Speaker 1: They said pretty good. Only nineteen years to go, coach,
- 1:26Speaker 1: young quarterback. I'm looking forward to the next nineteen years.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Hello everybody, it's Evan Lazar Alex Barth, getting way ahead
- 1:35Speaker 1: of ourselves talking about year another twenty year run of dominance.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Catch twenty two. We're gonna talk about this Chargers game.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Huge win for the Patriots on Sunday, a season validation,
- 1:49Speaker 1: I would say, for the Patriots on Sunday against the Chargers.
- 1:53Speaker 1: We will also, of course talk about the Houston Texans.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We'll spend a lot of time in the first hour
- 1:59Speaker 1: on this Chargers game. Second hour will be all Texans,
- 2:02Speaker 1: so we'll get plenty of preview about Houston because I
- 2:05Speaker 1: know a lot of people by now. As much as
- 2:07Speaker 1: it was fun to revel in that win, and Monday
- 2:10Speaker 1: was really a fun day because you didn't know who
- 2:12Speaker 1: they were.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Playing, I was gonna say the Monday night playoff game
- 2:15Speaker 2: is an affront to everything and every one of my senses,
- 2:18Speaker 2: Like the National football.
- 2:20Speaker 1: You dump on college football for being minor league. Yes,
- 2:22Speaker 1: they play their playoff games on weeknights. The National football
- 2:24Speaker 1: they should not be playing playoff games on weeknights. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but it was kind of fun when it's your team
- 2:29Speaker 1: waiting on the outcome of that game to see who
- 2:31Speaker 1: you get, and you know, I all Monday you didn't
- 2:34Speaker 1: have to really worry about the next team yet you
- 2:37Speaker 1: could just kind of bask in the glow of what
- 2:41Speaker 1: happened here on Sunday night. And that's a big picture.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Where I wanted to start was, you know, just by
- 2:48Speaker 1: saying I one of my favorite parts about Boston sports
- 2:52Speaker 1: and Boston sports culture and doing this job and being
- 2:55Speaker 1: a fan of the Boston sports teams is that we
- 2:57Speaker 1: are a championship driven people, a championship driven Like we
- 3:01Speaker 1: do not celebrate wild card wins with parades or banners
- 3:07Speaker 1: or anything like that like some other places might. All Right,
- 3:11Speaker 1: we don't do that here. We are super Bowl or bust.
- 3:14Speaker 1: We are title or bust. And that's really we shouldn't
- 3:18Speaker 1: lose that. Like, that's a great part about this city
- 3:21Speaker 1: and uh, these sports fans. With that being said, there
- 3:26Speaker 1: are some times exceptions to these things. And I do
- 3:30Speaker 1: want people to take a second to just appreciate the
- 3:34Speaker 1: turnaround that we are experiencing right now.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a unique situation where you know, like
- 3:41Speaker 2: during that twenty year run, Oh, everybody would always laugh
- 3:45Speaker 2: at you know, the advertisements for the clinching the playoffs,
- 3:48Speaker 2: the clinching the division gear or like everybody be like,
- 3:51Speaker 2: who is a conference championship t shirt?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Right? No, you get the Super Bowl teachers. I have
- 3:56Speaker 1: a one one because you know that one was different? Yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 1: we didn't know. I think I have No.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Four one because I got it like a yard sale
- 4:01Speaker 2: and I just like the design of the shirt.
- 4:04Speaker 1: But I bought it like the old one. I bought
- 4:06Speaker 1: it like ten years after AFC championship hat is rocks.
- 4:10Speaker 1: It's a much cooler it does.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And can we bring back the old championship trophies too
- 4:14Speaker 2: while we're at it?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Those are so much better. Yeah, you don't like the
- 4:17Speaker 1: new ones, They're fine. The old one was cool.
- 4:20Speaker 2: That was like had felt like rustic.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I don't know why you know I'm talking about Yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and I don't know this is was silly of me.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I don't know why we're going down this road. When
- 4:30Speaker 2: I started working here.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I didn't realize that the AFC championship trophies are also
- 4:35Speaker 1: in the trophy room upstairs at the Hall. For some reason,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I thought that they it was just the Lombardes. Now
- 4:41Speaker 1: that the troph AFC Championship trophies are all for.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Some in the hall, unless those are like okay, yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'm sorry I ruined the illusion.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah, this is like you know, like Hollywood acting right, Yeah,
- 4:51Speaker 1: what was I What was I saying? But yeah, like
- 4:53Speaker 1: I think that this is okay.
- 4:54Speaker 2: So the port I was making is like, yeah, we
- 4:56Speaker 2: used to laugh about that. This is a unique one
- 4:58Speaker 2: where like because of what the expectations were coming into
- 5:01Speaker 2: the season, because of how young the team is, like
- 5:03Speaker 2: you said off the top their position pretty well. It
- 5:07Speaker 2: is more like we're celebrating I think you can celebrate
- 5:10Speaker 2: the steps well acknowledged that the steps are not the
- 5:12Speaker 2: ultimate goal. You know, when the expectation is to make
- 5:15Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, Yeah, you're gonna kind of look at
- 5:17Speaker 2: a wildcard game and be like, okay, cool, moving on,
- 5:20Speaker 2: when the expectation is to win nine or ten games,
- 5:23Speaker 2: you're gonna look at that wildcard game a little differently.
- 5:25Speaker 1: So next year, maybe we don't do the hullabaloo about
- 5:27Speaker 1: the wildcard.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Hopefully it will feel like less of a deal at
- 5:30Speaker 2: that point, it'd be a good thing. But I think
- 5:32Speaker 2: right now you can get away with that. But we
- 5:34Speaker 2: do have a little bit of Patriots breaking news here.
- 5:36Speaker 1: What is it?
- 5:37Speaker 2: The Patriots have our let me find the exact word.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Here are signing former Texans defensive end. I don't know
- 5:47Speaker 2: if it's Darryl or uh Derell. It's two RS two
- 5:51Speaker 2: L's Darryl Taylor to the practice squad, according to Ian
- 5:55Speaker 2: Rappaport quote, with the strong possibility of elevating him for
- 5:58Speaker 2: the playoffs. This guy just got waived by the Texans
- 6:02Speaker 2: last week. Okay, former nine and a half sack guy
- 6:05Speaker 2: for the Seattle Seahawks a couple of years ago.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I recognize the name. I'm not super familiar with,
- 6:11Speaker 1: uh the player, to be honest with you, but.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Signing somebody just got cut by the Texans.
- 6:17Speaker 1: We're not doing that. We're not doing that anyways. The
- 6:20Speaker 1: revenge game, well, little Darryl Taylor revenge game. Yeah, Yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 1: they're gonna they're gonna pick his brain and they're gonna
- 6:25Speaker 1: get all. This wasn't even going there, They're gonna get
- 6:27Speaker 1: all the secrets about the Texans defense that doesn't do
- 6:30Speaker 1: anything exotic or anything. All right, Well, I wasn't even
- 6:33Speaker 1: thinking that. I was thinking, uh, it's Darryl Daryl Taylor. Yeah,
- 6:38Speaker 1: I was thinking more like he's a he's a spot
- 6:41Speaker 1: revenge game.
- 6:42Speaker 2: No, you're gonna put him out. They're gonna elevate him
- 6:43Speaker 2: the prass card. You're gonau him out there and they
- 6:45Speaker 2: just cut him and he's gonna go nuts.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Okay, maybe we'll get to all that, but thank you
- 6:50Speaker 1: for that information. Fourteen wins a playoff win. It's not normal.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It's not normal to win four games back to back
- 7:01Speaker 1: seasons and the next year you win fourteen games and
- 7:04Speaker 1: you're in the divisional round. That just doesn't happen that
- 7:07Speaker 1: often in this league. It really doesn't. And I think
- 7:11Speaker 1: that people should really appreciate that. And now, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: as we start to talk about this Chargers game, I
- 7:19Speaker 1: do feel like I needed them to win one playoff game.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I did not want them to go win fourteen games
- 7:24Speaker 1: in the regular season and then choke in the playoffs
- 7:27Speaker 1: and we all have the whole soft schedule thing for
- 7:29Speaker 1: six months of the offseason, like I didn't want to
- 7:32Speaker 1: do that thing. Yeah, but now that they want a
- 7:34Speaker 1: playoff game, I do. The house money thing is starting.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You gotta have you heard the Chargers suck, but you
- 7:41Speaker 1: have to at some point At now, I think feel
- 7:44Speaker 1: like they are super ahead of schedule. They're further along
- 7:48Speaker 1: than anybody thought they would be, and we're starting to
- 7:51Speaker 1: get into house money territory now where even if they
- 7:54Speaker 1: go out on Sunday and it would be disappointing if
- 7:56Speaker 1: they lost to the Texans, you gotta you had a
- 8:00Speaker 1: really good season, a really really good season in the
- 8:03Speaker 1: first year under Mike Rabel. So all that is from here,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I feel like is maybe a little bit of gravy,
- 8:09Speaker 1: A little bit. Yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I mean, look, I'm guarded in this take because I
- 8:13Speaker 2: remember in twenty twenty one saying they're ahead of.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Schedule, like they're probably gonna lose whatever.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Happened twenty twenty one, but they didn't even need to.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I remember just thinking, hey, they made the playoffs.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I feel good about where they're at, like, yeah, they're
- 8:24Speaker 2: probably gonna lose to the Bills, but it feels like
- 8:25Speaker 2: they're on track and making progress. And then the way
- 8:28Speaker 2: in which they lost. That game completely changed that conversation.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So you can't get your doors blown off by the Texans.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You know they to your point, they should. I do
- 8:38Speaker 2: think they should win this game, but you know, if
- 8:41Speaker 2: it doesn't look competitive, that would be kind of alarming.
- 8:44Speaker 1: But I'm mostly with you. I think if they had
- 8:47Speaker 1: played the Texans last week and got blown out just
- 8:49Speaker 1: like they did against Buffalo in twenty one, I'd probably
- 8:52Speaker 1: be more on the same page as you at this point.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I think that winning this playoff game really did adds
- 9:00Speaker 1: validation and add some substance of this season that is
- 9:03Speaker 1: beyond anything the twenty one team did. The twenty one
- 9:06Speaker 1: team basically lost what four out of their last five games.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I think the Jaguars game was the only one they
- 9:14Speaker 1: won against the interim head coach and a Jacksonville team
- 9:17Speaker 1: that was completely in shambles. Was the only game they
- 9:20Speaker 1: won down the stretch that season, and they got their
- 9:23Speaker 1: doors blown off of them by Buffalo. This is a
- 9:25Speaker 1: completely different ending. It is no, it is it is.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I'm just saying like it. It's easy to say in
- 9:32Speaker 2: the moment, I feel good about where they're at. One,
- 9:35Speaker 2: it's the National footballagu One game can change a lot.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Okay, so the other thing, but I.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Don't think that's going to happen. For what it's worth,
- 9:41Speaker 2: I just I leave myself that breathing room.
- 9:42Speaker 1: After If they go out there and lose forty one
- 9:46Speaker 1: seventeen or whatever the heck that game was and they
- 9:48Speaker 1: don't force a punt, then sure, but that I think
- 9:51Speaker 1: is pretty crazy to think that that would happen. Let's
- 9:56Speaker 1: get into the Chargers. I think the other big picture
- 9:58Speaker 1: thought just on specifically on the Charger game that I
- 10:01Speaker 1: had is I couldn't help but feeling that this game
- 10:04Speaker 1: was so similar to Super Bowl fifty three. They were
- 10:07Speaker 1: you know who said that, David Andrews and he played
- 10:10Speaker 1: in that game. There you go. He said he didn't
- 10:12Speaker 1: want to.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Compare it because Super Bowls are different, but then he
- 10:14Speaker 2: realized they were similar.
- 10:15Speaker 1: It's yeah, And I don't want to always like harken
- 10:20Speaker 1: back to the past and be like, you know, that
- 10:22Speaker 1: old man on the stoop and be like, remember when
- 10:25Speaker 1: Tom Brady you know, did this well, I mean.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Even down to the one big catch by the tight
- 10:29Speaker 2: end at the end of the game of seal.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the way the game unfolded It was
- 10:34Speaker 1: obviously a great defensive performance. It was a great game
- 10:38Speaker 1: plan defensively. They needed, you know, the big thing that
- 10:42Speaker 1: we say going into the game is that they needed
- 10:44Speaker 1: the defensive line to dominate and really expose the Chargers
- 10:48Speaker 1: offensive line. They went in there and did that. Excuse me,
- 10:52Speaker 1: maybe not exactly how we thought they would. You know,
- 10:55Speaker 1: there's probably a little bit more blitzing and a little
- 10:57Speaker 1: bit more pressure from the linebacker, especially than what I
- 11:01Speaker 1: envisioned going in. But either way, they figured it out.
- 11:05Speaker 1: They cooked up a game plan that was able to
- 11:08Speaker 1: really just completely shut down the Charger offense and honestly
- 11:12Speaker 1: one of the better defensive performances the Patriots have had
- 11:15Speaker 1: probably since that Super Bowl. Right, and then offensively in
- 11:21Speaker 1: the second half, Josh McDaniels had one card in his
- 11:25Speaker 1: back pocket that he played, and they figured it out
- 11:29Speaker 1: late in the game to get the Chargers into base
- 11:31Speaker 1: defense with the six to zero line package, and they
- 11:34Speaker 1: made some plays in the second half, and just like
- 11:36Speaker 1: in Super Bowl fifty three, they put one drive together
- 11:40Speaker 1: off of you know, six to zero line in this
- 11:42Speaker 1: case in the Super Bowl fifty three, it was twenty
- 11:45Speaker 1: two personnel, a two tight ends in a full back.
- 11:47Speaker 1: You know, this was you know, the jumbo package with
- 11:50Speaker 1: Air Munford. They get base defense on the field. They
- 11:53Speaker 1: had a tight end on a vertical route down the field,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and it wins the wins the ball game. So a
- 11:58Speaker 1: lot of similarities to that game. I as much as
- 12:02Speaker 1: I want to give Zach Krr his flowers and he
- 12:04Speaker 1: deserves all the bouquets that he's getting, I also think
- 12:07Speaker 1: it's really really difficult for an offensive coordinator whose offense
- 12:14Speaker 1: is not having its best game going up against a
- 12:17Speaker 1: really good charger defense and a really good play caller
- 12:20Speaker 1: in Jesse Minter to have a guy like McDaniels that
- 12:24Speaker 1: can stay calm in that moment and adjust in the
- 12:27Speaker 1: second half and get Drake May going, you know, eleven
- 12:30Speaker 1: for fourteen in the second half after being six for
- 12:32Speaker 1: fifteen in the first half. That's why Josh McDaniels is here, Like,
- 12:36Speaker 1: that's why he's one of the best coordinators in the NFL.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So I get it, like they only scored sixteen points
- 12:41Speaker 1: and I'm waxing poetic about how great the coordinator was
- 12:44Speaker 1: on the offense. But I think that in some ways
- 12:48Speaker 1: it's almost harder to do what they did on Sunday
- 12:51Speaker 1: night than it is to come out with a great
- 12:54Speaker 1: opening script and just go right down the field, right
- 12:56Speaker 1: down the field with a great game plan. Right, it's
- 12:59Speaker 1: like hard to get into the game, realize that the
- 13:02Speaker 1: Chargers defense has a great plan is executing at an
- 13:06Speaker 1: extremely high level, and then be able to make those
- 13:08Speaker 1: adjustments in the second half that McDaniels did to get
- 13:12Speaker 1: May going a little bit. That is why you pay
- 13:14Speaker 1: him the big bucks. You know, that's why he's one
- 13:16Speaker 1: of the best.
- 13:17Speaker 2: But prior to that game, they'd scored at least twenty
- 13:19Speaker 2: three points in all their wins. Yeah, so they hadn't
- 13:23Speaker 2: had to win a game like that.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I'm with you.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I think McDaniel's called a good game. I think the
- 13:27Speaker 2: execution at times is why there weren't more points on
- 13:30Speaker 2: the board. I think they left some opportunities out there.
- 13:32Speaker 2: And you know, Drake May basically said as much after
- 13:35Speaker 2: the game. So I thought McDaniels called a good game.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I thought he managed it well once it kind of
- 13:41Speaker 2: became kind of clear what kind of game it was
- 13:43Speaker 2: going to be.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And yeah, I just think when you sit there and say,
- 13:47Speaker 1: you know, the coordinator was great and six when you
- 13:49Speaker 1: score sixteen, people are gonna be like, now, how do
- 13:52Speaker 1: you say that? Now? I this was, like I said,
- 13:56Speaker 1: certain times, I think it's harder to do what he
- 13:59Speaker 1: did than to come out. When you have a great
- 14:01Speaker 1: opening script or you have a great game plan against
- 14:04Speaker 1: a good defense and you're just shredding them like that,
- 14:07Speaker 1: that's when it's fun, Like, that's when it's easy. When
- 14:09Speaker 1: it's hard is when you have to pivot to different
- 14:12Speaker 1: things and you have to figure out or find a
- 14:14Speaker 1: solution over the course of the game. This is what
- 14:17Speaker 1: you get on my guys all the time, is that
- 14:18Speaker 1: they can't do right. So I think that that's such
- 14:21Speaker 1: a no.
- 14:22Speaker 2: He tailored his play calling to the way the game
- 14:24Speaker 2: was being played, which I think is.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Is a lot harder than it sounds. Yeah. So let's
- 14:31Speaker 1: get into the defense though, because they're the ones that
- 14:33Speaker 1: drove the bus here this week. The defensive game plan,
- 14:37Speaker 1: I just I think the biggest thing that I can
- 14:40Speaker 1: compliment them on is justin Herbert just seemed like he
- 14:43Speaker 1: was seeing ghosts and there was good pressure, especially in
- 14:47Speaker 1: the second half, but even early in this game, when
- 14:50Speaker 1: I didn't think the pressure was totally out of control
- 14:54Speaker 1: yet it just felt like Herbert's clock in the pocket
- 14:57Speaker 1: was all thrown off, you know, like he was I stay,
- 15:00Speaker 1: should I go? You know? Do I have time here
- 15:03Speaker 1: to hold the ball? You know? What are my answers
- 15:06Speaker 1: to pressure? Like all these different things that we talk
- 15:09Speaker 1: about with quarterbacks being sped up in the pocket. They
- 15:12Speaker 1: just had Herbert rattled really from the jump, and there
- 15:16Speaker 1: was throws on tape. I know a lot of them
- 15:19Speaker 1: are going around of like oh, he could have hit
- 15:21Speaker 1: Maconkey here, or he could have hit Quinton Johnston there.
- 15:24Speaker 1: But they had him in a blender and he didn't
- 15:27Speaker 1: know what he was looking at, which I think is
- 15:30Speaker 1: another testament to coaching and the plan of you know,
- 15:32Speaker 1: the disguises and the different things they were doing to
- 15:35Speaker 1: confuse him. But the biggest thing was that time in
- 15:39Speaker 1: the pocket, like he just did not know. And it
- 15:42Speaker 1: wasn't always like staying in the pocket too long or
- 15:45Speaker 1: leaving it too early. It was like a combination of
- 15:47Speaker 1: all the above where he was just not sure which
- 15:51Speaker 1: button depress to get the ball down the field. So
- 15:56Speaker 1: to me, when I see a quarterback, especially of justin
- 15:58Speaker 1: Herbert's caliber, play like that and playing sped up that
- 16:02Speaker 1: tells me that the defense was doing something that had
- 16:05Speaker 1: him completely confused, and that's that's a huge win for
- 16:09Speaker 1: Zach Korr. Huge, Oh yeah, massive, And they didn't even
- 16:12Speaker 1: It's funny.
- 16:12Speaker 2: For as much as we've talked about the pass rush,
- 16:15Speaker 2: I thought it was underwhelming in the first half, and
- 16:17Speaker 2: then obviously they eventually got it going. But to your point,
- 16:20Speaker 2: Ewin Herbert at a time he didn't know didn't seem
- 16:23Speaker 2: to know what he was looking at and coverage, and
- 16:24Speaker 2: I think that's a credit to the guys on the
- 16:26Speaker 2: back end and the way they were playing one of
- 16:28Speaker 2: their better coverage games of the year. And yeah, they
- 16:31Speaker 2: were able to confuse them and make him hold the
- 16:35Speaker 2: ball even again even when he had time, he really
- 16:37Speaker 2: either had nowhere to go with it or he felt
- 16:38Speaker 2: like he hadn't where to go with it, and a
- 16:39Speaker 2: certain point, those are the same thing.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Yeah. So for blitz rate, one of their highest, I
- 16:46Speaker 1: believe that is their highest of the season so far.
- 16:49Speaker 1: They sent five cover zero blitz at Herbert. All of
- 16:52Speaker 1: them worked. They had some line stunts going to in
- 16:55Speaker 1: this game to get the pressure going as well, and
- 16:58Speaker 1: then they absolutely spun the dial. Cover wise, they called
- 17:00Speaker 1: six different coverages in this game, you know, different shells,
- 17:04Speaker 1: man zone, all the above. They were really they were
- 17:08Speaker 1: in their bag. They were in their bag. And the
- 17:10Speaker 1: forty five percent blitz rate, I personally loved it. I
- 17:15Speaker 1: think that this is hopefully signs of things that come.
- 17:18Speaker 1: You know, we'll see when we get out to practice
- 17:20Speaker 1: Alex in a couple of hours, if Christiangan Zales is
- 17:22Speaker 1: out there or not, that might you know, change things. Yeah,
- 17:26Speaker 1: but we've been talking all year about trusting these corners more,
- 17:30Speaker 1: and you have these three good corners, three good Man corners.
- 17:34Speaker 1: You know, why are the Patriots not trusting them a
- 17:38Speaker 1: little bit more? Being aggressive? Like I go back to
- 17:42Speaker 1: remember the Rex Ryan defenses with Drell Reevs, and Rex
- 17:45Speaker 1: would just blitt the crap out of everybody because he
- 17:48Speaker 1: just knew that he had torel Reevis and he didn't
- 17:50Speaker 1: need big time safety help over the top or double
- 17:53Speaker 1: teams or whatever the case may be. That's what this
- 17:56Speaker 1: game felt like from the Patriots point of view. You know,
- 17:59Speaker 1: Christian Zales was great on Quinton Johnston until he went
- 18:02Speaker 1: out of the game. Marcus Jones was great on Lad McConkey,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and they just felt good about their matchups against the
- 18:09Speaker 1: Charger wide receivers, and they want those matchups pretty decisively,
- 18:14Speaker 1: and that just allowed Zach Korr to send the house
- 18:17Speaker 1: like you know, literally and figuratively at times.
- 18:21Speaker 3: You know.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Robert's playing and Christianellis I thought were excellent in this game.
- 18:24Speaker 1: That was the next point I wanted to make. This
- 18:26Speaker 1: was one of the better games that the Patriots linebackers
- 18:29Speaker 1: have played all year, probably their best. Ellis and Splaine
- 18:34Speaker 1: were just incredible in this game. Both of them had
- 18:38Speaker 1: multiple pressures, blitzing the quarterback, multiple run stuffs. Splain had
- 18:43Speaker 1: a pass breakup where he almost picked it off. Actually
- 18:45Speaker 1: he hit him right in the hands popping out of
- 18:48Speaker 1: the rush. Christianellis had a couple spy reps on Herbert
- 18:52Speaker 1: to kind of close the pocket or chase him down
- 18:55Speaker 1: when he scrambled. Watching Robert Splaine direct traffic out there
- 19:00Speaker 1: too in the communication maker, it was fantastic. This is
- 19:06Speaker 1: an area of the roster at linebacker that I think
- 19:09Speaker 1: we've all had our concerns about over the course of
- 19:12Speaker 1: the season, whether it's past defense, run defense, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 1: all the above, and they showed out in one of
- 19:20Speaker 1: the biggest games of the year. This was by far
- 19:22Speaker 1: their best performance.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it really was, and I think it you know,
- 19:26Speaker 2: we talked a lot last week, in the last couple
- 19:29Speaker 2: of weeks about what's wrong with the defense is its
- 19:31Speaker 2: schematic issue as a personnel, and I think we're on
- 19:33Speaker 2: the same page that.
- 19:34Speaker 1: They just needed to get guys back.
- 19:36Speaker 2: It's a good reminder that, you know, it's not the
- 19:38Speaker 2: logo on the side of the helmet that's winning games.
- 19:40Speaker 2: It's the players wearing a helmet. And you saw how
- 19:43Speaker 2: different it was when you get some of those big
- 19:44Speaker 2: free agency additions. Milton Williams, I know he'd been back
- 19:47Speaker 2: for a week, but you know, seeing him really get going,
- 19:52Speaker 2: getting Roberts Plaine back, Like you saw what a difference
- 19:54Speaker 2: it made having those guys back on the field.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, so gold stars for the linebackers. Gold stars thought
- 20:00Speaker 1: as well for Milton Williams, Christian Barmore and Kaylevon chase On.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I thought all three of those guys were extremely disruptive.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Milton Williams obviously had the two sacks him and Barmore
- 20:10Speaker 1: combined for seven total pressures in this game. Chase On
- 20:13Speaker 1: I had with two sacks and five pressures, So between
- 20:17Speaker 1: those three guys, you know, twelve quarterback pressures, four sacks.
- 20:22Speaker 1: We said that Barmore and Williams needed to dominate, and
- 20:25Speaker 1: they pretty much dominated this matchup. Now, maybe didn't start
- 20:28Speaker 1: that way, and you know it wasn't. Yeah, they made
- 20:31Speaker 1: up for it. It wasn't complete and utter domination, but
- 20:34Speaker 1: it was pretty close. And that's what they needed out
- 20:37Speaker 1: of these guys.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Yeah, no, they, like you said, they didn't start. And
- 20:41Speaker 2: I think what helped was how much of that like
- 20:44Speaker 2: heavy blitz thing. Do you think was the plan going
- 20:49Speaker 2: in versus was an in game adjustment?
- 20:50Speaker 1: I think it was a little bit of an in
- 20:51Speaker 1: game adjustment. I think so too. And so you know,
- 20:53Speaker 1: that's what just based off of what Vrabel said after
- 20:56Speaker 1: the game when he said that's what the game kind
- 20:57Speaker 1: of needed was for us to turn up the heat.
- 21:00Speaker 2: All the way they were covering on the back end,
- 21:01Speaker 2: the pressure wasn't getting there as much as you hoped,
- 21:03Speaker 2: and he turned it up. And then once the pressure
- 21:04Speaker 2: started coming, those guys are really able to pin your
- 21:06Speaker 2: ears back and go Yeah.
- 21:08Speaker 1: I mean Barmore just denting the pocket consistently in justin
- 21:12Speaker 1: Herbert's lap, and then Milton Williams man. Like watching Milton
- 21:16Speaker 1: Williams rush that gear that he gets to when he's
- 21:20Speaker 1: one on one, you know, whether it was that speed
- 21:22Speaker 1: to power bowl or the arm over over the center
- 21:24Speaker 1: of the swim move like that, he has a different
- 21:28Speaker 1: level of explosiveness than the rest of the of the
- 21:30Speaker 1: Patriots rushers do that They just is just a different
- 21:34Speaker 1: gear when you watch him play that They haven't really
- 21:37Speaker 1: had that, you know that we talk about, like in
- 21:40Speaker 1: the draft, we often talk about like play making gears, right,
- 21:43Speaker 1: Like who has that ability to just kind of make
- 21:45Speaker 1: those splash plays. Milton Williams has that in droves, And
- 21:49Speaker 1: I don't know if they've had a guy like that
- 21:51Speaker 1: maybe since like Judon was, you know, really humming in
- 21:54Speaker 1: like twenty one, twenty two. So he's been great. The
- 21:59Speaker 1: other you know, kind of standouts, I mentioned them a
- 22:01Speaker 1: little bit briefly before I thought this was another tremendous
- 22:05Speaker 1: Marcus Jones game. I mean, just unbelievable. Maybe the best
- 22:09Speaker 1: player on the field for the Patriots defense. He covered
- 22:12Speaker 1: Ladd McConkie on twenty routes in this game, basically shadowed
- 22:16Speaker 1: Ladd McConkie. Ladd one kitch one catch for twenty yards
- 22:19Speaker 1: on a extended, you know, scrambled drill man coverage play
- 22:23Speaker 1: and I had multiple tackles, had the tackle down by
- 22:26Speaker 1: the goal line of Justin Herbert on the quarterback run,
- 22:30Speaker 1: chopped him down. That was a sneaky important play early
- 22:34Speaker 1: on in this game. You know, if he doesn't make
- 22:36Speaker 1: that play, you don't get the fourth down stop, you
- 22:38Speaker 1: don't get the turnover on downs there. It's a completely
- 22:41Speaker 1: different game. So Marcus Jones, I think he's played at
- 22:45Speaker 1: a Pro Bowl level this year. I think he should
- 22:47Speaker 1: have gotten more recognition in the All Pro and the
- 22:50Speaker 1: Pro Bowl voting than he did. You know, they have
- 22:52Speaker 1: a slot cornerback now and the All Pro voting, and
- 22:55Speaker 1: he was like fourth or fifth on the list, and
- 22:57Speaker 1: I was like, this is a joke, Like this is Yeah,
- 22:59Speaker 1: he is definitely deserved more recognition than he got. He's
- 23:03Speaker 1: had a tremendous year. Like I mentioned Christian Gonzales, until
- 23:08Speaker 1: he went out with the head injury, I thought he
- 23:10Speaker 1: was really really good against Quentin Johnson. Pretty much dominated
- 23:12Speaker 1: that matchup. Randon the route for Quentin Johnson on that
- 23:16Speaker 1: one and he almost picked off that. I think he
- 23:18Speaker 1: actually got hurt on but you know, just really good
- 23:21Speaker 1: in this game as well. This is what you are
- 23:23Speaker 1: hoping for, is what you've been looking for out of
- 23:26Speaker 1: these corners. Once we get into the playoffs, you know,
- 23:28Speaker 1: flip that switch and be dominant there in the back end.
- 23:31Speaker 1: And they were dominant. Yeah, they absolutely showed up. And
- 23:36Speaker 1: that's kind of the performance we thought we were getting
- 23:37Speaker 1: going back to the summer. Okay, a couple of sneaky
- 23:40Speaker 1: like good players on defense, and then I'll talk a
- 23:43Speaker 1: little bit about the offense. Craig Woodson sneaky good game,
- 23:46Speaker 1: really good. Yeah, tackle for loss early on in this
- 23:50Speaker 1: game or run stuff. I thought he hit well. I
- 23:53Speaker 1: thought he tackled well in the open field. I thought
- 23:56Speaker 1: he was aggressive when he needed to be aggressive. He
- 23:59Speaker 1: took away read on Herbert Scramble playing the deep part
- 24:03Speaker 1: of the field. I mean, he was really really good
- 24:05Speaker 1: in this game. And it's really flown under the radar
- 24:09Speaker 1: with Craig Woodson because of Campbell and Henderson and Wilson
- 24:13Speaker 1: and all these other rookies that are also contributing. Craig
- 24:17Speaker 1: Woodson's played like every defensive snap this year and he's
- 24:20Speaker 1: held up. There has been some good and some bad,
- 24:23Speaker 1: like any rookie. But he's been as good as any
- 24:26Speaker 1: Patriots rookie, I would say this season, especially considering the
- 24:29Speaker 1: volume that he's playing at. He started every single game
- 24:32Speaker 1: and he's played like ninety nine percent of the snaps.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I think he deserves a little bit more love. You know,
- 24:36Speaker 1: maybe doesn't have the he's not the starting left tackle.
- 24:40Speaker 1: He's not the splashy player that Traveon Henderson is, so
- 24:43Speaker 1: he doesn't necessarily have those moments. But when you watch
- 24:46Speaker 1: the film, he's consistently flying around and making plays.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been he's been really good.
- 24:53Speaker 1: And the fact that he hadn't come off the field.
- 24:55Speaker 2: I think he's played their most defensive snaps, right yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 2: I mean it's close. It got to be unbelievable what
- 25:00Speaker 2: they've gotten out of him, and a guy that looks
- 25:03Speaker 2: like he's going to continue to get better.
- 25:04Speaker 1: So I thought he was.
- 25:05Speaker 2: He had the tackle to blow up the screen right
- 25:08Speaker 2: yep to Quentin Johnson. I thought it was a big
- 25:09Speaker 2: play when the Chargers started to move the ball a
- 25:11Speaker 2: little bit. That's the one that stood out to me.
- 25:13Speaker 2: But overall, I'm with you, good game.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it was, you know, just pulling it up now
- 25:17Speaker 1: he has played ninety three percent of the defensive snaps,
- 25:20Speaker 1: that's the highest on the Patriots. And he's played nine
- 25:23Speaker 1: hundred and fifty total snaps, which is also the highest
- 25:26Speaker 1: on the Patriots. So this is a rookie fourth round
- 25:29Speaker 1: pick that's played the most defensive snaps on a team
- 25:32Speaker 1: that's won fifteen games. And I ditch it, nuts. I
- 25:35Speaker 1: don't think that we talk about it now, No, and
- 25:37Speaker 1: so I think I just I mean, I just did
- 25:39Speaker 1: my pfw A.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I assume we're allowed to talk about these publicly.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I don't know. It's okay, You'll be fine.
- 25:47Speaker 2: I mean I had him as you know, all we're
- 25:50Speaker 2: doing All Rookie Team too. Yeah, yeah, there's and it's
- 25:53Speaker 2: a strong.
- 25:54Speaker 1: As wait, you guys vote on way too many.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it is the All AFC in All NFC is
- 25:58Speaker 2: when it starts to slow down a little bit, but cumbersome.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I like the All Rookie Team. It's kind of cool.
- 26:02Speaker 2: There were like no rookie centers that even played this year,
- 26:04Speaker 2: so that was a little tough, but really good rookie
- 26:08Speaker 2: safety class.
- 26:08Speaker 1: NICKI min Worry.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Watts, Yeah, Malachi Starks in Baltimore and Woodson's right up
- 26:16Speaker 2: there with him, and a lot of those guys went
- 26:18Speaker 2: a lot higher in the draft, but Woodson's right up
- 26:19Speaker 2: there with him.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Yeah, he was really good. The other sneaky good player
- 26:23Speaker 1: I thought in this game was Anthony Jennings, who just
- 26:26Speaker 1: absolutely clocked Justin Herbert. Honestly, I don't know how Justin
- 26:29Speaker 1: Herbert got up after that one, But I think Anthony Jennings.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And we'll get to this when we you know a
- 26:35Speaker 1: little bit more, when we get to some of the
- 26:37Speaker 1: not so good things from this game. I think Anthony
- 26:40Speaker 1: Jennings every single time he plays, I feel like he
- 26:42Speaker 1: makes an impact, whether it's you know, we know he
- 26:44Speaker 1: can set the edge. You know that he's been able
- 26:46Speaker 1: to do that his whole career. In this game, I
- 26:48Speaker 1: thought he got after the pass are a little bit out
- 26:51Speaker 1: of a couple of pressures at a sack. He was
- 26:53Speaker 1: really good in this game. So two guys you know
- 26:55Speaker 1: we know about, you know, the two corners, Milton Williams,
- 26:58Speaker 1: barb wore, the two linebackers. They were really good. But
- 27:01Speaker 1: I thought Woodson and Anthony Jennings were also sneaky good
- 27:05Speaker 1: in this game. So moving over to the offense, I
- 27:10Speaker 1: I kind of like, look at this game, maybe splitting
- 27:14Speaker 1: the baby here a little bit with Drake May. I
- 27:16Speaker 1: really thought Drake May played pretty well outside of the turnovers,
- 27:19Speaker 1: and it wasn't his best game by any means, you know,
- 27:21Speaker 1: but I would call this more of like a mixed
- 27:23Speaker 1: bag than a disaster or like a bad game for him.
- 27:27Speaker 1: You know, still at three hundred and thirty toll yards
- 27:29Speaker 1: of offense, when you add the scramble yards with the
- 27:31Speaker 1: passing yards, this is a really good Charger defense. They
- 27:35Speaker 1: had a really good plan, which we'll talk more about
- 27:37Speaker 1: in a minute, but you know, you had I look
- 27:41Speaker 1: at it and say, you know, I think he had
- 27:42Speaker 1: like three or four elite plays in this game. Obviously,
- 27:45Speaker 1: the touchdown pass to Henry, the checkdown to Stevenson was
- 27:49Speaker 1: more like a great catch and run. But still you're
- 27:51Speaker 1: in your own end zone.
- 27:53Speaker 2: You know, there's a after just throwing a pick in
- 27:55Speaker 2: your own.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Enders and I'm black Blitzer coming right at you in
- 27:58Speaker 1: your own end zone and you to wherewithal to see
- 28:01Speaker 1: that Stevenson sneaked out of the backfield and there's nobody
- 28:04Speaker 1: on him, and the ability to dump that off that's
- 28:07Speaker 1: not you know, Rabel talked about it on Monday, like,
- 28:09Speaker 1: that's a poised play for a young quarterback in a
- 28:12Speaker 1: playoff game. The forty two yard are to Booty I
- 28:16Speaker 1: thought was a great lookoff and throw Henry touch. And
- 28:20Speaker 1: I mentioned a couple of really good scrambles, you know,
- 28:23Speaker 1: the thirty seven yard scramble basically gave them three points.
- 28:26Speaker 1: The eight yard scramble where he shook off a sack
- 28:29Speaker 1: in the pocket and scrambled for eight yards another good one.
- 28:33Speaker 1: So I think that there's plenty of like good plays
- 28:36Speaker 1: that he made in this game. And he outplayed Herbert,
- 28:39Speaker 1: like he just flat out outplayed justin Herbert. So at
- 28:43Speaker 1: some point, yeah, we're gonna talk about the turnovers and
- 28:45Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about some of the issues that they
- 28:47Speaker 1: had in this game. But at the end of the day,
- 28:49Speaker 1: if you outplay the quarterback that's on the other sideline,
- 28:52Speaker 1: you're gonna give your team a chance to win most days.
- 28:55Speaker 1: And that's what Drake May did. He gave him a
- 28:56Speaker 1: chance to win.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Yeah, he absolutely did. And that was the big difference
- 29:00Speaker 2: in this game. You know, there's to me, there's two plays.
- 29:03Speaker 2: There's a scramble at the end of the first half,
- 29:05Speaker 2: which gets you to go aheadfield goal, a little bit
- 29:06Speaker 2: of momentum going into the break, and then obviously touchdown
- 29:09Speaker 2: pass hunter Henry Drake May did not have his best day,
- 29:12Speaker 2: but when he needed to make a play, he made
- 29:15Speaker 2: a play. And sometimes that's quarterback, like you're not gonna
- 29:19Speaker 2: throw for five hundred yards every game.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Tom Brady had those games.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Yeah, super Bowl fifty three when he needed to make
- 29:25Speaker 2: the pass to Gronky made it. And Drake May when
- 29:27Speaker 2: the play was there to be made, he made the
- 29:29Speaker 2: big plays. And Justin Herbert certainly did not. The first
- 29:32Speaker 2: snap of the game, he has Latin Conky wide open
- 29:35Speaker 2: for a touchdown and just sees them, yeah, and just
- 29:38Speaker 2: doesn't throw the balls.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Yeah, his eyes were down at the rush. Yeah, it
- 29:42Speaker 1: was not good.
- 29:42Speaker 2: So I yeah, I thought with May, there were flashes
- 29:47Speaker 2: of rookie May. There were definitely flash of him as
- 29:49Speaker 2: a rookie things we maybe haven't seen for a while,
- 29:52Speaker 2: especially some of the ball security in the pocket stuff.
- 29:54Speaker 1: But he was trying too much to be a hero, right.
- 29:56Speaker 2: We were talking about him maybe being a little who
- 30:00Speaker 2: fired up a little too frazzled in his first playoff game,
- 30:03Speaker 2: and we've seen him clean that stuff up before it
- 30:05Speaker 2: looked a lot like some of the mistakes he made
- 30:08Speaker 2: in that Steelers game.
- 30:10Speaker 1: And then you know, we put him away.
- 30:11Speaker 2: We didn't rely see him again. So I trust him
- 30:13Speaker 2: to clean him upgain he gets a benefit of the
- 30:14Speaker 2: death there, but he does need to clean them up
- 30:17Speaker 2: outside of that, especially in the second half once he
- 30:18Speaker 2: settled down. He had some sprays in the first half.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I think the one to Austin Hooper was in the
- 30:22Speaker 2: second one, right, Yeah, but for the most part he
- 30:24Speaker 2: was much better than the second half. And again I
- 30:26Speaker 2: just go back to and I said this before the game.
- 30:30Speaker 2: I didn't need Drake Me to go out there and
- 30:31Speaker 2: throw for three hundred yards and three touchdowns, and I
- 30:33Speaker 2: don't think they needed that. You know, I could have
- 30:35Speaker 2: done without the multiple turnovers. But yeah, he wasn't gonna
- 30:38Speaker 2: have his best. He didn't need to have his best
- 30:40Speaker 2: game now when you're gonna even have it eventually, this
- 30:42Speaker 2: leak probably isn't it either.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Again, ball security is going to be huge.
- 30:45Speaker 2: But just needed him to make the plays that were
- 30:48Speaker 2: there to be made, and he more or less did
- 30:50Speaker 2: that when they needed him to do it.
- 30:51Speaker 1: It just, uh, you know, when you when you turn
- 30:55Speaker 1: the ball over twice and you put the ball on
- 30:57Speaker 1: the ground a third time. It's obviously you can't sit
- 31:00Speaker 1: here and say it was his best game, right. You
- 31:02Speaker 1: know that that type of stuff is going to get
- 31:04Speaker 1: you beat a lot of the time. But at the
- 31:07Speaker 1: end of the day, you know, even his bad games,
- 31:12Speaker 1: he still makes some really big time plays. And if that,
- 31:16Speaker 1: if this is what a Air quotes bad Drake May
- 31:20Speaker 1: game is, now, yeah, they are going to be in
- 31:22Speaker 1: really good shape. Like if this is what it looks
- 31:25Speaker 1: like when he plays poorly by his standards, then they're
- 31:28Speaker 1: they're going to be tough to beat for a while.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Because this was still plenty good enough to win this game,
- 31:34Speaker 1: and uh, you know, I think that they they would
- 31:37Speaker 1: take it. So we'll get to the turnovers, you know, obviously,
- 31:40Speaker 1: when we get to the stuff to get to beat.
- 31:42Speaker 1: But that that was my take on Drake May in
- 31:45Speaker 1: this game. I really didn't think he played that bad.
- 31:48Speaker 1: And I understand, you know that that might be whistling
- 31:51Speaker 1: past the graveyard a little bit, but I think when
- 31:54Speaker 1: you really start to look at some of the throws
- 31:56Speaker 1: that he made in this one, I mean the touchdown
- 31:58Speaker 1: pass to Henry's picture perfect. You know, that is an
- 32:01Speaker 1: elite perfect throw that you know he makes on that one.
- 32:05Speaker 1: But I also thought the throw to Booty on the
- 32:09Speaker 1: forty two yard completion, He's looking right, you know, the
- 32:13Speaker 1: end drops out, which they were doing all game to
- 32:15Speaker 1: drop out underneath Digs and he they fall into like
- 32:20Speaker 1: a cover three with the single high safety in the
- 32:22Speaker 1: middle of the field, So he looks right at Diggs
- 32:25Speaker 1: to He's not trying to throw to Digs. He's trying
- 32:28Speaker 1: to move the safety out of the middle of the
- 32:30Speaker 1: field because they had like the double seams, you know,
- 32:32Speaker 1: the wheel and the seam route from the tight end
- 32:34Speaker 1: on the left hand side. So if he can move
- 32:36Speaker 1: that safety out of the middle of the field, then
- 32:39Speaker 1: he's going to be two on one in the outside corner.
- 32:41Speaker 1: So he comes on to Digs, you know, comes off
- 32:43Speaker 1: Digs and gives that little you know ball fake to
- 32:46Speaker 1: the safety, gets the safety and the corner on the
- 32:48Speaker 1: other side of the field to turn their hips the
- 32:50Speaker 1: wrong way, and it comes all the way back across
- 32:53Speaker 1: the field and throws the ball outside the numbers to Booty.
- 32:56Speaker 1: You know, just by air distance, that's a forty one
- 32:58Speaker 1: yard throw, you know, like that's not an easy throw
- 33:00Speaker 1: to make. So I think in general, just I thought
- 33:03Speaker 1: that Drake may had a lot of really good plays
- 33:05Speaker 1: in this game.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Well, it's funny, you know, I just brought up that
- 33:08Speaker 2: Steelers game. I remember coming in here after the Steelers
- 33:11Speaker 2: game and doing a show with the Andrews as well,
- 33:15Speaker 2: and talking a lot about how well they played. Yeah,
- 33:17Speaker 2: and we kind of acknowledge, Hey, they just turned the
- 33:19Speaker 2: ball over five times. It's a little ridiculous to talk
- 33:23Speaker 2: about the good, right, but there was enough good. This
- 33:27Speaker 2: kind of feels like that and wouldn't like I won't lie.
- 33:30Speaker 2: I walked away from that show a little bit like
- 33:33Speaker 2: I was pretty homery in me five turnover game and
- 33:36Speaker 2: hyping them up, But like I legitimately felt.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Encouraged, and we also didn't know well, so this was
- 33:42Speaker 1: my point.
- 33:43Speaker 2: This is my point, Like I legitimately felt encouraged after
- 33:45Speaker 2: that game, and I felt a little weird that I
- 33:47Speaker 2: felt encouraged.
- 33:48Speaker 1: But I felt encouraged, and it turned out I should.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Have trusted my eyes because they didn't lose a game
- 33:52Speaker 2: for two months after that.
- 33:54Speaker 1: This felt a little like that Steelers game.
- 33:56Speaker 2: We're like, I feel a little weird being as encouraged, says,
- 34:00Speaker 2: I was about the offense, but I feel how I
- 34:04Speaker 2: did after the Steelers game. So this time I'm going
- 34:05Speaker 2: to trust my eyes and say I feel you know, that.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Doesn't mean there's not work to be done.
- 34:09Speaker 2: There is, like you got to clean it up in
- 34:11Speaker 2: the pocket, especially this week with the ball security.
- 34:15Speaker 1: But I think there was more to like than.
- 34:16Speaker 4: To not like.
- 34:18Speaker 1: So a couple more positives and then we should move
- 34:20Speaker 1: on because we're already thirty minutes in. Uh. Ramondra Stevenson
- 34:24Speaker 1: just continues to be awesome. Vermondre Stevenson is just playing
- 34:29Speaker 1: really really good football now for about six weeks, I
- 34:32Speaker 1: would say maybe longer. You know, the forty eight years
- 34:36Speaker 1: football of his career. The forty eight yard checkdown is
- 34:38Speaker 1: a is a great play to get off the goal
- 34:40Speaker 1: line and completely flip the field. A huge, huge play
- 34:43Speaker 1: in this game. Uh sneaky underrated part of that play.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Kyle Williams. That's a great blot on Derwin James. A
- 34:50Speaker 1: couple of big blocks by the rookie. We didn't mention
- 34:52Speaker 1: it on Drake May's pass. The Travon Henderson put Okay, yeah,
- 34:55Speaker 1: we are all a great play. It's a great play.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Serves credit for that.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Everybodycial gout that was struggling any pass protection. It was
- 35:01Speaker 1: a great play. But like all, we all have to
- 35:03Speaker 1: sound smart. But I mentioned, yeah, that is everybody wants
- 35:06Speaker 1: to go. But I'm not on the moment that the
- 35:08Speaker 1: quarterback is falling backwards making a throw over one of
- 35:13Speaker 1: the best safeties in football like that. But what doesn't
- 35:16Speaker 1: happen with that? What about that blitz pick up? I'm
- 35:19Speaker 1: not trying to discredit on I was still is trying
- 35:21Speaker 1: to tell you that.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I was still talking about the blitz pickup to Matt
- 35:24Speaker 2: Dolo as Hunter Henry crossed the goal line.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I was I was going to that Blitz pick up.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Whatever happened, You have a great eye, good jick you.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I'm very smart. Reminder of Stevenson. Really good in this game. Again,
- 35:36Speaker 1: Hunter Henry really good in this game. The twenty eight
- 35:39Speaker 1: yard touchdown obviously goes without saying. The nineteen yard third
- 35:42Speaker 1: down conversion that he had where he sat down in
- 35:44Speaker 1: the middle of the field on third and thirteen. Sneaky
- 35:47Speaker 1: big play. Sneaky big play. They were scrimmaging, I want
- 35:51Speaker 1: to say from their own twelve yard line on that
- 35:53Speaker 1: play it was third and thirteen. If the Chargers forcing
- 35:57Speaker 1: incomplete pass for as a sack whatever, Now you're punting
- 36:00Speaker 1: off your own goal line. Right, the field position completely changes.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Hunter Henry gets that nineteen yard completion, they move the chains.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Booty gets the forty two yard completion. I think a
- 36:11Speaker 1: player two later. Now Drake may fumbled at the end
- 36:13Speaker 1: of the drive and they didn't get points off the drive,
- 36:16Speaker 1: but even the field position, in the field position, you know,
- 36:19Speaker 1: he fumbles inside the red zone, so it completely changed
- 36:23Speaker 1: in the field position.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I was the one where we've heard them talk a
- 36:26Speaker 2: lot throughout the season, but including into this game about
- 36:29Speaker 2: getting the first first down.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and how much better they feel after they get
- 36:32Speaker 1: me big this first first down. Yep.
- 36:34Speaker 2: And that was a great example of that.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Yeah, really really keep playing this game. Lastly, on the goods,
- 36:42Speaker 1: I thought the right side of the offensive line and
- 36:44Speaker 1: brad Berry were pretty good in this game. I only
- 36:46Speaker 1: had those three guys with two pressures combined between the
- 36:50Speaker 1: three of them, one each for on winning when Bradbury.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Moses had a clean sheet in this game against Kalil Mack,
- 36:57Speaker 1: who might be washed, but still Khalil Mack is going
- 36:59Speaker 1: to be in the NFL, you know, the Pro Football
- 37:01Speaker 1: Hall of Fame once he retires. So I thought, they,
- 37:05Speaker 1: you know, we'll get to the rookies on the left side,
- 37:07Speaker 1: who obviously had a rough game, but the right side
- 37:10Speaker 1: of the line plus Bradberry continue to just be really,
- 37:13Speaker 1: really solid for this team, which I think is important.
- 37:17Speaker 1: It helps them in so many different ways where you know,
- 37:20Speaker 1: if this is continues to be a little bit of
- 37:22Speaker 1: a slog, a little bit of a struggle for the
- 37:24Speaker 1: rookies on the left hand side, if you can trust
- 37:28Speaker 1: on Whnu and Bradbury to be one on one back side,
- 37:31Speaker 1: you know, on the right hand side, and you can
- 37:32Speaker 1: then slide the line a lot to the left and
- 37:35Speaker 1: try to help out Campbell and Jared Wilson, that can
- 37:39Speaker 1: really go a long way. So you know, if we
- 37:40Speaker 1: have to chip on that side, if you have to
- 37:42Speaker 1: have Bradbury open to the left side, I feel pretty
- 37:45Speaker 1: good about trusting Moses and on Whnue to hold up.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Now Will Anderson rushes over the right tackle this week,
- 37:51Speaker 1: so maybe don't put Moses on an island too much,
- 37:54Speaker 1: don't leave him out to dry. But he's held his
- 37:58Speaker 1: own in most of these matchups and been really really good,
- 38:01Speaker 1: I thought on when it was solid as well, so
- 38:03Speaker 1: not a complete disaster from the offensive line. The pressure
- 38:06Speaker 1: rate was honestly was manageable for most of the game.
- 38:09Speaker 1: But Drake may held the ball a little bit in
- 38:11Speaker 1: this game, and I thought their left side kind of
- 38:13Speaker 1: got its lunch. But that other than that, I yeah,
- 38:16Speaker 1: I don't think it was really that horrible. I think
- 38:21Speaker 1: it was probably around thirty thirty five percent pressure rate
- 38:24Speaker 1: in this game, which is manageable. Anything below thirty five
- 38:27Speaker 1: to forty percent is usually okay, especially with a mobile quarterback.
- 38:31Speaker 2: And the left side hadn't played together for seven weeks.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Yeah, so we can just talk about that now. Yeah,
- 38:37Speaker 1: we can get into that now, Like we'll see.
- 38:41Speaker 2: All because I beat you guys are tweeting me during
- 38:43Speaker 2: the game, like, yeah, well Cambell needs to be better. Yeah,
- 38:46Speaker 2: I'm not starting a conversation about moving him back to
- 38:48Speaker 2: guard off or moving him to guard off one game,
- 38:50Speaker 2: but calm down with that.
- 38:51Speaker 1: We also, like, you know, and I'm not trying to
- 38:54Speaker 1: make excuses, but all week long we talked about two Lee,
- 38:58Speaker 1: Tou Aplatu and O way like real Mack. Yeah, well,
- 39:01Speaker 1: cleaning Mack was on the right side and did nothing.
- 39:04Speaker 1: But we talked about those two guys all week long
- 39:07Speaker 1: that they're really really good players. Like I'm just going
- 39:10Speaker 1: to call him tu Lee because I can't say his
- 39:11Speaker 1: freaking last Yeme Tully. Like we talked all week that
- 39:17Speaker 1: this was one of the most underrated pass preshus in football.
- 39:19Speaker 1: He was like top five and pressures, top five in sacks,
- 39:23Speaker 1: like this was a really good football player.
- 39:25Speaker 5: Uh.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Oh way, it was another guy that you know, we
- 39:27Speaker 1: highlighted and said was going to be a problem, and
- 39:29Speaker 1: they were. You know, they were disruptive, no doubt about it. Uh.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing that I'm seeing right now
- 39:35Speaker 1: with Will Campbell that has me small sea concern is
- 39:37Speaker 1: he's getting walked back into the quarterback a lot, you know,
- 39:40Speaker 1: is his anchor. Uh and his issues, you know again,
- 39:43Speaker 1: are are there against power, you know if you want
- 39:46Speaker 1: to play that you know thing about him being a
- 39:50Speaker 1: tackle long term if you want to go there. You know,
- 39:53Speaker 1: when you started talking about establishing first meaningful contact with
- 39:57Speaker 1: your length, you know, guys like Oway who have long arm,
- 40:00Speaker 1: they're going to get into his chest plate faster than
- 40:02Speaker 1: he can get into their chest plate. So that's what happens,
- 40:06Speaker 1: you know, and then he's gonna have to get He's
- 40:08Speaker 1: going to have to get himself into uh the you know,
- 40:12Speaker 1: shave and the ability to anchor after that happens, because
- 40:16Speaker 1: he's not going to get his hands on guys first
- 40:17Speaker 1: for what's not worth.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Andrew's assessment of that, if I remember correctly, was basically
- 40:23Speaker 2: it's less of an arm ranked thing arm length thing
- 40:25Speaker 2: and more of an approach thing in that he has
- 40:29Speaker 2: the ability to set his anchor quicker, but he's not
- 40:31Speaker 2: because he's trying to win other ways. And it might
- 40:32Speaker 2: just be a thing whereas you grow in the league,
- 40:34Speaker 2: you got to understand that, Hey, like you don't have
- 40:36Speaker 2: as much time to wait and get any your anchor.
- 40:38Speaker 1: He's just do it right away. He's probably trying to
- 40:41Speaker 1: catch guys more than he is trying to set out
- 40:43Speaker 1: and be aggressive against them, which I can understand. But
- 40:46Speaker 1: when you face like really good power rushers, especially like
- 40:49Speaker 1: Tullia is like you, I think that him going out
- 40:52Speaker 1: and getting the guy is probably the better approach. He's
- 40:55Speaker 1: going to learn that.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I mean, it's like, as much as we talked about
- 40:58Speaker 2: Drake may At being his first playoff game and is
- 41:01Speaker 2: he going to have nerves? Where's he going to be
- 41:02Speaker 2: at mentally? They had I think thirty five guys playing
- 41:05Speaker 2: in their first playoff game, and the left side of
- 41:07Speaker 2: the line was two of them. Yeah, so I you know,
- 41:09Speaker 2: you hope that one they're healthier next week and we'll
- 41:12Speaker 2: see what happens with Jared Wilson if he's playing, but
- 41:14Speaker 2: you know, another week removed from the injuries injury for
- 41:17Speaker 2: the knee injury for Campbell, and then maybe just hey,
- 41:19Speaker 2: all right, you have a playoff game under your belt.
- 41:22Speaker 2: You kind of got beat, you know, can you bounce
- 41:25Speaker 2: back and subtle it?
- 41:26Speaker 1: I thought that he had some issues with power against
- 41:28Speaker 1: Bradley Chubb two in Week eighteen. That kind of flew
- 41:31Speaker 1: under the radar because that game wasn't really all that
- 41:33Speaker 1: competitive in the second half. So it's something to monitor.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I don't think I'm with the Andrews. I don't think
- 41:38Speaker 1: that this is like a fatal flaw by any means
- 41:41Speaker 1: for Will Campbell yet, but it's certainly something that has
- 41:45Speaker 1: popped up, probably more consistently than him getting beat to
- 41:48Speaker 1: the edge, is him losing the power in his rookie season.
- 41:52Speaker 1: So there's a lot of things that go into that,
- 41:54Speaker 1: you know, whether it's approach, you know, where how he's
- 41:57Speaker 1: catching guys, how he's you know, setting, whether it's you know,
- 42:00Speaker 1: getting in a little bit more in the weight room,
- 42:02Speaker 1: you know, and getting that that that core and the
- 42:04Speaker 1: legs and the and the booty you know, in better shape. Like,
- 42:07Speaker 1: there's a million different ways to go about that. So
- 42:11Speaker 1: I'm not super concerned with Jared Wilson. Uh, you know,
- 42:14Speaker 1: we don't have to labor the point and in terms
- 42:17Speaker 1: of their performance, I just I guess I'm just a
- 42:19Speaker 1: little confused as to why this isn't the more of
- 42:22Speaker 1: a conversation with Ben Brown and maybe we'll get some
- 42:25Speaker 1: more it's not, Yeah, I because I thought on Friday
- 42:30Speaker 1: last week, Rabel was pretty quick to shut that down.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Okay, so last week I understand why it wasn't. You
- 42:36Speaker 2: now have a whole other game of evidence it definitely
- 42:39Speaker 2: wasn't last week. So you're saying it should have been
- 42:41Speaker 2: more last week.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it should be more of a conversation period.
- 42:44Speaker 1: I think now after that game it has to be.
- 42:46Speaker 1: It might be, but I just feel like my point
- 42:48Speaker 1: I'm trying to make is that Jared Wilson's time will come.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Like Jared Wilson, I think is a starting caliber talent
- 42:56Speaker 1: in this league. You know, I think we both feel
- 42:58Speaker 1: like it's probably more at center than it is at guard.
- 43:01Speaker 1: But either way, like he's I think he's a starting
- 43:03Speaker 1: caliber talent in the NFL. But now you're in one
- 43:07Speaker 1: game season mode, like this is the tournament. It's one
- 43:10Speaker 1: and done. And if we go out, you know, on
- 43:14Speaker 1: Sunday afternoon and watch Jared Wilson go up against Sheldon
- 43:16Speaker 1: Rankins and he gets his butt whipped, you might be
- 43:19Speaker 1: going home like that might that might decide a game.
- 43:22Speaker 4: You know.
- 43:23Speaker 1: And I think there's a difference between getting guys experience
- 43:28Speaker 1: and you do that during the regular season. Fine, you know,
- 43:31Speaker 1: you do that moving forward with Jared Wilson. Fine, now
- 43:35Speaker 1: you gotta you know, this is the playoffs, Like this
- 43:37Speaker 1: is a big difference than just like we want to
- 43:40Speaker 1: get these two rookies feet wet, and you know, the
- 43:43Speaker 1: Week eight against the Tennessee you know, and I think
- 43:48Speaker 1: these pass rushes that they're gonna face the rest of
- 43:51Speaker 1: the way is going to be a gauntlet. You know,
- 43:54Speaker 1: the Chargers have a really good front. The Texans have
- 43:57Speaker 1: a really good front. If you win, it's gonna Befalo
- 44:00Speaker 1: or Denver, who both also have really good fronts. If
- 44:03Speaker 1: you win that game, it's going to be Seattle or
- 44:05Speaker 1: the Rams or whichever team comes out of the NLC football.
- 44:09Speaker 1: This is this is not you know, this is trial
- 44:12Speaker 1: by fire for these two rookies. The last thing I'd
- 44:15Speaker 1: say on Ben Brown, who I'm kind of standing for
- 44:18Speaker 1: right now, he's just bigger. He's just a bigger body,
- 44:22Speaker 1: and I think that there's something to be said. You
- 44:25Speaker 1: can't teach size for that element of it. And also,
- 44:29Speaker 1: like next to Campbell, who is an arrow tackle, you
- 44:33Speaker 1: know he's not. He's more linearly built. He's an arrow.
- 44:37Speaker 1: We did the whole arm length and what wing span
- 44:40Speaker 1: thing all draft season, So having a guy next to
- 44:44Speaker 1: him that is a little bit wider and takes up
- 44:48Speaker 1: a little bit more space might just help him out
- 44:51Speaker 1: a little bit, especially in the run game when you
- 44:53Speaker 1: start to build surfaces with double teams and stuff like that. Like,
- 44:56Speaker 1: I just I think that this conversation, I'm shocked at
- 45:00Speaker 1: Vrabel was so dismissive about it last Friday. I think
- 45:03Speaker 1: he was because he didn't want it to leave any doubt.
- 45:06Speaker 1: He didn't want like it to sound like he was
- 45:08Speaker 1: wishy washy about it. I expect him to be asked
- 45:11Speaker 1: about it again today and maybe, you know, it's not
- 45:14Speaker 1: gonna be me, but maybe somebody else can like kind
- 45:17Speaker 1: of ask him why, you know, like what walling to
- 45:19Speaker 1: kind of give a little bit more color as to
- 45:22Speaker 1: why that is in the bigger conversation, so that that's
- 45:25Speaker 1: the the rookie lineman, first ever playoff game for two rookies.
- 45:29Speaker 1: I don't want to kill him for it. I just
- 45:31Speaker 1: think that, you know, it goes back to, like, you know,
- 45:33Speaker 1: we always bring up the Ted Krris twenty twenty one
- 45:36Speaker 1: situation because Mike on went to a better player than
- 45:39Speaker 1: Ted Krris. Probably was he a better player for that combination? No,
- 45:44Speaker 1: you know, and maybe that's just the case with Ben
- 45:46Speaker 1: brand I with what works next thing here on my list.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Continuing on the offense in the first half, especially the
- 45:57Speaker 1: receivers separation. They hesitate to use the word separation because
- 46:02Speaker 1: I think that's a buzzword that gets people all hot
- 46:06Speaker 1: and bothered. But the Chargers covered well, especially in the
- 46:09Speaker 1: first half of this game. The Patriots looked at maybe
- 46:12Speaker 1: a little bit confused by the match coverages specifically and
- 46:17Speaker 1: how to get open against those. And then the biggest
- 46:20Speaker 1: thing to me though, as we move forward, Stefan Diggs
- 46:23Speaker 1: that got treated like a number one wide receiver. Yep,
- 46:25Speaker 1: they threw the kitchen sink of double teams, brackets, guys
- 46:31Speaker 1: dropping off the line of scrimmage into his area the field,
- 46:35Speaker 1: and they took him out of the game. They schematically
- 46:38Speaker 1: took Digs out. Now, it's cool that the Patriots have
- 46:41Speaker 1: a dictating coverage, dictating wide receiver. That's a good thing.
- 46:46Speaker 1: But you saw what especially early when you know May
- 46:49Speaker 1: is looking for Digs on third down and stuff like that.
- 46:52Speaker 1: You saw what it kind of did to their passing
- 46:54Speaker 1: game early on in this game. You know, for completion
- 46:57Speaker 1: rate at halftime, the lowest completion rate in a half
- 47:00Speaker 1: by Drake May all season long. And to me, it's
- 47:03Speaker 1: stemmed from the fact that the Chargers came out and
- 47:05Speaker 1: said Diggs isn't beating us, and they kind of, I
- 47:09Speaker 1: don't know, it kind of threw them off a little bit.
- 47:12Speaker 1: On the one hand, I'm excited that they have a
- 47:14Speaker 1: receiver that's dictating coverage like that. On the other hand,
- 47:17Speaker 1: and it happened a little bit more in the second half.
- 47:20Speaker 1: You know, the other guys need to step up there, Booty, Henry,
- 47:24Speaker 1: Kyle Williams, Pop Douglas, the Backs, like, you don't have
- 47:28Speaker 1: Mac Collins, so you have to it has to come
- 47:31Speaker 1: from that group. You know, maybe Mac Collins if they
- 47:34Speaker 1: win this weekend, will be back for the AMCY Championship game.
- 47:37Speaker 1: But we're getting ahead of ourselves. They don't have them
- 47:38Speaker 1: on Sunday. So if the Texans come out and they
- 47:42Speaker 1: take out Digs too, then they need these other guys
- 47:46Speaker 1: to be able to win their one on one matchups.
- 47:48Speaker 4: This is what it is.
- 47:49Speaker 1: How long have we talked about this.
- 47:50Speaker 2: We're finally here getting a guy that dictates coverage and
- 47:53Speaker 2: you know, look takes his had games in his career
- 47:56Speaker 2: where he's been a coverage dictator, has gotten that attention.
- 47:59Speaker 2: He still produced at a high level, because that's what
- 48:01Speaker 2: the great ones. Do You think teams aren't dictating coverage
- 48:03Speaker 2: like justin Jefferson. Of course they are, so you know,
- 48:06Speaker 2: but at thirty two years old, does he have one
- 48:08Speaker 2: more of those games in him? Remember it's a revenge
- 48:10Speaker 2: game for him too. The Texans said, thanks, no, thanks,
- 48:12Speaker 2: after his knee injury. We saw what he did to
- 48:14Speaker 2: Buffalo earlier at this point, so you know it'd be
- 48:17Speaker 2: great if he could just do that. And even if
- 48:20Speaker 2: he does, you still this is this is what a
- 48:23Speaker 2: high level offense is. There's gonna be attention on one
- 48:27Speaker 2: pass catcher and even if that guy gets going, they
- 48:29Speaker 2: can't take the attention off.
- 48:31Speaker 1: That guy because he's too good.
- 48:32Speaker 2: So now it's you have other Kayshawan Boody, Pop Douglas,
- 48:36Speaker 2: Kyle Williams, Hunter, Henry, the running backs like you have
- 48:39Speaker 2: chances to be one on one and win. Are you
- 48:42Speaker 2: going to take advantage of those chances? So you're gonna
- 48:44Speaker 2: win one on one because you're like Kayshawn Boody probably
- 48:47Speaker 2: not gonna see a safety over the top as much
- 48:49Speaker 2: as he usually does if they're putting that attention on
- 48:53Speaker 2: Stephan Dick. Same for Kyle Williams, not gonna see that
- 48:54Speaker 2: safety over the top of the deep speed Pop Douglas.
- 48:57Speaker 2: They're not gonna be able to bracket him, and he's
- 48:58Speaker 2: going to have some of those off routes where he's
- 49:00Speaker 2: gonna have a side where he can go. He's gonna
- 49:02Speaker 2: be able to win leverage without having to worry about
- 49:04Speaker 2: a defender lurking things like that. So it's exciting because
- 49:08Speaker 2: how long have we been talking about the coverage dictating
- 49:10Speaker 2: wide and here we are. Now you just must lost
- 49:13Speaker 2: them a game, but here we are. Well, So just
- 49:16Speaker 2: because that guy's out there doesn't mean you're gonna win.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Gonna win, you got to now take advantage of it.
- 49:20Speaker 2: But it's an adjust it's an adjustment. I would think
- 49:23Speaker 2: they're gonna they're gonna hammer this week, but it's been
- 49:27Speaker 2: a while because even Edelman, as good as he was,
- 49:30Speaker 2: just by nature of where he played, not as much
- 49:34Speaker 2: of a coverage dictator.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that it is different. And you know,
- 49:37Speaker 1: this is what you saw with Digs, Like it was
- 49:39Speaker 1: a lot of brackets are like guys dropping off when
- 49:42Speaker 1: he was inside the formation because it's easier to double
- 49:44Speaker 1: guys when they're in the slot versus when he's out wide.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Uh so you know they were able to kind of
- 49:49Speaker 1: bracket him in. You know, they had like tire tart,
- 49:52Speaker 1: like all three hundred and forty pounds of them was
- 49:54Speaker 1: dropping off the line of scrimmage, like right into slant windows.
- 49:57Speaker 1: You know, May's fumble everybody's killing him four at the
- 50:00Speaker 1: end of the game. That wasn't bad time to fumble,
- 50:02Speaker 1: for sure. They just drop the end right underneath Digs.
- 50:06Speaker 1: He wants to throw it a Digs on the slant.
- 50:08Speaker 1: That's supposed to be a quick throw. You see the
- 50:10Speaker 1: tackles both, Yeah, and he's and he's trying to throw
- 50:12Speaker 1: it to Digs on the slant and the end just
- 50:14Speaker 1: drops right underneath it. He's gonna throw it right to
- 50:16Speaker 1: him if he throws the ball, so he's got to
- 50:18Speaker 1: hold the ball. Now he's got to protect the ball
- 50:20Speaker 1: after that. But you know, these are the things that
- 50:22Speaker 1: they were doing. Uh, the Chargers were, to their credit,
- 50:26Speaker 1: and I don't think the Texans dial it up quite
- 50:29Speaker 1: as much as the Chargers do. But they did double
- 50:31Speaker 1: DK a little bit on Monday night, and so, you know,
- 50:36Speaker 1: different types.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Of receivers kind of help them take DK out of
- 50:39Speaker 2: the game.
- 50:40Speaker 1: But yeah, but they had some dedicated doubles on TK. Now,
- 50:44Speaker 1: different types of receivers. But the Texans do not, you know,
- 50:48Speaker 1: I know, we'll get to the Texans more in a
- 50:50Speaker 1: in the second hour, but the Texans don't travel their
- 50:52Speaker 1: corners like Stingley is not going to travel with digs,
- 50:55Speaker 1: but they will bracket receivers when it's not stingly right.
- 51:00Speaker 1: When he doesn't line up over Stingley, they will send
- 51:02Speaker 1: brackets to either you know, they'll slot or lassiter or
- 51:05Speaker 1: whatever the case may be. So that was I did
- 51:09Speaker 1: not think that there was a lot of open receivers
- 51:12Speaker 1: in the first half of this game, and that was
- 51:15Speaker 1: to me. That's not to say sit here and say
- 51:18Speaker 1: they don't have enough at wide receiver. I think that's
- 51:21Speaker 1: more about scheme, that's more about execution, that's more about
- 51:25Speaker 1: the Chargers having a really good game plan. I don't
- 51:28Speaker 1: think that receiver separation has been a big issue for
- 51:31Speaker 1: this team this year. I think they've actually had plenty
- 51:33Speaker 1: of open receivers, as Drake May's MVP season can attest to.
- 51:38Speaker 1: So I wouldn't say that this is something that's been
- 51:41Speaker 1: an issue for them this year. Last thing on the bads,
- 51:44Speaker 1: I just didn't think Carol Blandie looked very good in
- 51:46Speaker 1: this game. I just didn't really have very many impactful
- 51:50Speaker 1: plays for him. I didn't register a pressure, didn't register stuff.
- 51:56Speaker 1: He had a good tackle when what's his name Vidale
- 51:58Speaker 1: picked up the fumble and he kind of saved a
- 52:01Speaker 1: bigger play there. But if I'm the Patriots, similar to
- 52:04Speaker 1: the conversation we were having with Jared Wilson, you know
- 52:07Speaker 1: Anthony Jennings and Elijah Ponder.
- 52:09Speaker 2: I think I've been playing for Jennings played really well,
- 52:12Speaker 2: but Jennings played really well.
- 52:13Speaker 1: I just wonder how many of of Landry's snaps they
- 52:16Speaker 1: start to take away and give to those guys.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Or is that where maybe Darryl Taylor comes in.
- 52:22Speaker 1: You're very get into this Darryl Taylor thing.
- 52:24Speaker 2: I mean, this is a guy that was like he
- 52:26Speaker 2: was a roster I don't really understand why Houston.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Cut him because they have like seventeen pass right.
- 52:31Speaker 2: That's true, Okay that yeah, they have a ton of
- 52:33Speaker 2: death there. But like he's he's not a guy that's like, oh,
- 52:37Speaker 2: he's kind of a fringe roster player. He's going to
- 52:39Speaker 2: bounce around practice quite He's play like he's been on teams.
- 52:43Speaker 2: He's a sixteen seventeen game player. I just feel he
- 52:46Speaker 2: played a full season the last four years, and then
- 52:48Speaker 2: this year in Houston he was buried a little bit.
- 52:50Speaker 1: I just would be really surprised if, like you get
- 52:52Speaker 1: a guy off the street and then he's immediately playing
- 52:56Speaker 1: snaps over Landry Jennings and Ponder who have been here
- 52:59Speaker 1: all year.
- 52:59Speaker 2: So I just go to rapport saying, like highlighting the
- 53:04Speaker 2: possibility of elevating him.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I'm I'm sure Darryl Taylor's agent really appreciates that. Fair enough, Uh,
- 53:12Speaker 1: let's do the bads or the stuff that gets you beat.
- 53:14Speaker 1: That was all I had for the bads. I mean defensively,
- 53:16Speaker 1: Like I don't know what you want me to say,
- 53:19Speaker 1: there's really no but there's no bads. Defensively they were great,
- 53:23Speaker 1: just not a.
- 53:24Speaker 2: Little more consistent pressure in the first half.
- 53:26Speaker 6: That was it.
- 53:26Speaker 2: I just didn't really get the pressure, but the secondary.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Held up so it was fine.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Yeah, And then that's all I had.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Stuff that gets you beat. The turnovers obviously, Drake may
- 53:37Speaker 1: you know the tipped one. You always kind of give
- 53:40Speaker 1: the quarterback a tiny bit of a pass on tip.
- 53:42Speaker 1: The bubbles bothered me more than the past. Yeah, now
- 53:45Speaker 1: that the tip balls bothered me still a little bit,
- 53:47Speaker 1: because like change you can change arm angles, you can
- 53:50Speaker 1: move six five yeah, like yeah, but like Tart is
- 53:53Speaker 1: also a big freaking dude with saying like when you're
- 53:56Speaker 1: six five, like get it over the line, right, Yeah,
- 54:00Speaker 1: I would be really interested to see what like the
- 54:04Speaker 1: strong correlation between quarterback height and tip passes, because that's
- 54:11Speaker 1: obviously conventional wisdom. But there are a lot of tall quarterbacks.
- 54:16Speaker 2: That get a lot of bad Is there a site
- 54:17Speaker 2: that separates Is there a database that separates bat it
- 54:20Speaker 2: at the line versus the BFF?
- 54:22Speaker 1: Does it? Off the top of my head, I can
- 54:25Speaker 1: think of a couple of guys that are usually near
- 54:27Speaker 1: the top of the league that are tall. So I
- 54:30Speaker 1: think it's more about balls here we go arm angles,
- 54:34Speaker 1: you know, knowing So Trevor Lawrence was number one this year.
- 54:38Speaker 1: He is tall. Yeah, he's like six four sixty six six.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Then you have Caleb Williams, Yeah, likex six to one.
- 54:43Speaker 2: Jared Goff's like, what six three Jared Goffs over tall,
- 54:48Speaker 2: he's he is over the threshold. Sam Darnold also the
- 54:54Speaker 2: shorter side.
- 54:55Speaker 1: No he's not.
- 54:56Speaker 2: He's like sixty four six three six three six, He's
- 54:59Speaker 2: in the intermediate.
- 55:00Speaker 1: We're talking of bronicks. If we're measuring, like, you know,
- 55:04Speaker 1: do they do they pass the thresholds, We're going to
- 55:06Speaker 1: say six five and plus is tall? All are saying
- 55:09Speaker 1: I'm going to know when you go to the draft
- 55:12Speaker 1: and you say, what's the threshold for quarterback height? Yeah,
- 55:16Speaker 1: Lawrence and Darnold and Goff definitely passed what I'm saying.
- 55:19Speaker 2: There may be there may be a difference between the
- 55:22Speaker 2: guys who are at the threshold and the guys who've
- 55:23Speaker 2: passed the threshold. So I'm gonna say six five and
- 55:25Speaker 2: up is tall. Yeah, we'll call it six three six
- 55:29Speaker 2: fours threshold. Six two and below is short?
- 55:32Speaker 1: Is that fair? Fine?
- 55:33Speaker 2: So we have tall, short, medium, medium, short.
- 55:38Speaker 1: How tall is Dak? Doctor? Dak's on the shorter side, Dak?
- 55:42Speaker 1: So Dak is short? Ours for JJ McCarthy, Yeah, JJ
- 55:46Speaker 1: McCarthy's okay, he's six three, So he's just in that medium,
- 55:49Speaker 1: justin fields short, short, Bryce young, short, Patrick Mahomes.
- 55:53Speaker 2: I think Patrick Mahomes only six to one, right, six
- 55:55Speaker 2: to two. Yeah, So it's there's only one guy there
- 55:58Speaker 2: that's tall. There's some guys that are average. There's only
- 56:01Speaker 2: one guy that's tall, but he just happened to be
- 56:02Speaker 2: at the top of the list.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Due Lawrence, Goff and Darnold are good enough for me.
- 56:06Speaker 1: I don't know, like like that's that's enough. For me
- 56:08Speaker 1: to say, like where it was Drake May in this
- 56:10Speaker 1: It's not just a super short quarterback problem. Drake May
- 56:14Speaker 1: was tied first seventeenth. Like, it's not like this list
- 56:18Speaker 1: is like Kyler Murray.
- 56:20Speaker 2: Okay, so I was gonna say, uh, you know, here's
- 56:23Speaker 2: here to Drake May was tied with Russell Wilson. This
- 56:27Speaker 2: is an interesting grouping of quarterbacks. Yeah, Kyler Murray, Yeah,
- 56:31Speaker 2: Mac Jones, yeah, c J. Stroud, Drake and Justin Herbert.
- 56:35Speaker 2: So you have two talls, you have two talls, actually
- 56:39Speaker 2: three talls. Daniel Jones is tall, right, yeah, three talls,
- 56:43Speaker 2: one short and two mediums.
- 56:44Speaker 1: So again, like, I don't is there a correlation. I
- 56:47Speaker 1: think it's a little bit of correlation, but maybe not
- 56:50Speaker 1: very structure. Some nerd has done this, Stundy. I'll look
- 56:52Speaker 1: it up late. Yes, I left battle balls this year
- 56:54Speaker 1: and I thought he did. So that was the pick
- 56:56Speaker 1: the fumbles to me. I thought he was kind of
- 57:00Speaker 1: I think fools the wrong word like as good scheme
- 57:02Speaker 1: by the Chargers in both instances. The first one, they
- 57:06Speaker 1: I said, going into the into the game, the Chargers
- 57:09Speaker 1: played like a very little man coverage.
- 57:10Speaker 2: Okay, sorry, one way you know, who's tied for the
- 57:12Speaker 2: fewest rock thirty Yeah, sure, yes, this one, saying uh uh.
- 57:20Speaker 1: The first one, the Chargers played very few snaps of
- 57:23Speaker 1: man coverage as a defense they play on first and
- 57:27Speaker 1: second down. They were only playing man coverage on nine
- 57:29Speaker 1: percent of their first and second downs this year, which
- 57:32Speaker 1: is the lowest in the league. On that first fumble,
- 57:37Speaker 1: it was second down. They played man, and I think
- 57:40Speaker 1: it du like it duped him a little bit because
- 57:42Speaker 1: he has Henderson opening the flat against man. He's waiting
- 57:47Speaker 1: for Diggs. He thinks that Diggs is just going to
- 57:49Speaker 1: sit down in a little curl window on his own
- 57:51Speaker 1: coverage and they end up getting man.
- 57:54Speaker 7: Now.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Campbell gets beat off the left hand side and it
- 57:57Speaker 1: was too quick for him to go from one to two.
- 58:00Speaker 1: But if he had started on Henderson, he would have
- 58:02Speaker 1: just completed the ball in the flat to Henderson. But
- 58:04Speaker 1: I think that he was expecting zone. They played man.
- 58:09Speaker 1: The second one, they dropped the end out and underneath Digs.
- 58:13Speaker 1: He wanted Digs on the quick game. On the slant,
- 58:15Speaker 1: they dropped the end out. It wasn't there. He had
- 58:17Speaker 1: to hold the ball in both instances. I just felt
- 58:20Speaker 1: like he tried to be a hero. He tried to
- 58:22Speaker 1: hold the ball too long in the pocket and make
- 58:25Speaker 1: a throw from a muddy or congested pocket, and the
- 58:28Speaker 1: rush collapsed on him too quickly. Yeah, and games like
- 58:31Speaker 1: that when it's six three or three to three for
- 58:34Speaker 1: most of the game, and games like Sunday against the Texans,
- 58:39Speaker 1: a sacket is better than anything else in that situation, right,
- 58:43Speaker 1: Like a sack is a fine outcome, even if you're
- 58:46Speaker 1: on your own side of the field. Punting is a
- 58:49Speaker 1: lot better than a fumble recovery touchdown field position, right.
- 58:53Speaker 1: And the one that he fumbled at the end of
- 58:55Speaker 1: the game was so unnecessary. And then on top of that,
- 59:01Speaker 1: it bounced like straight up in the air and almost
- 59:03Speaker 1: went right to a charger for a fumble six Like
- 59:05Speaker 1: that was this close to being a fumble return for
- 59:08Speaker 1: a touchdown. So these are just like the little things
- 59:11Speaker 1: that it's so hard to analyze with him because he's
- 59:17Speaker 1: such a good playmaker that you don't want to take
- 59:21Speaker 1: the gunslinger out completely, right, But in these types of games,
- 59:25Speaker 1: especially when you have a lead late in the game
- 59:28Speaker 1: like they did on Sunday night, you can't fumble there.
- 59:31Speaker 1: You just can't put the ball on the ground, take
- 59:33Speaker 1: the sack, punt it, playfield position, win the game.
- 59:37Speaker 8: Like that.
- 59:38Speaker 1: That's just all it is. But did you have any
- 59:41Speaker 1: other thoughts on that. I don't know, just we I
- 59:43Speaker 1: think it's encouraging that.
- 59:46Speaker 2: We talked about it earlier in the year that these
- 59:50Speaker 2: were issues and he turned her in. When I say
- 59:52Speaker 2: he him, Josh McDaniels, Mike Rabel, Ashton Grant, like they.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Got it fixed. He really how many of those fumbles
- 59:59Speaker 1: did he have after this Dealers game this year? Not many?
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: Was two?
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, this is this is something that when
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: he plays poorly, it's usually fumbles. It's not usually like
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: he's only thrown multiple interceptions. I think in one game
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: in his entire career. I think it was as true.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: I think it's against the Titans last year. The the uh,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: the interceptions are usually not the issue.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: Right, what I'm saying like, he's also he's had games
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: like this and cleaned it up and put those issues
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: away for a long span. Yeah, right, And so I
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: think he deserves the benefit of the doubt to do again.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: Oh he has only throw Oh no, wait, that's this
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: year I.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Thought he had. I'm pretty I know you're right, Yeah, No,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: we had too Houston game his first career Okay, so
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: besides his first career start, it was dead. Is a
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: little relevant to this week? No, it's not.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: It's a little bit, a lot less than people think
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: it is, but a little bit.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: It just like the Chargers last year was not relevant
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: to the Chargers last week. The Texans last year is
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: not relevant to the Texans this week.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Well, Anderson was damn good in that game.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Okay, So that's that's the Chargers recap. We're gonna spend

- 1:04:06Speaker 1: don't really need a snowblower, so it's hard to get
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: free snowblowers. Yeah, I don't really need that. I'm not
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: gonna lie, but you know, Tyota, I'll take I'll take
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: a tight We're going to actually give the title. We're
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: gonna get where. We're gonna give it to Paul. We're
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: going to give it to Paul. He needs it more
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: than I do. So we're gonna give us a right.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: They don't care. It's fine. All right, Let's take these calls.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: These people have been waiting, and then we'll do our
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Texans preview here. Uh, if I can get this master work, Hello,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: there we go. All right, Patty is a nack on.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: What's up, Patty? Patty? Hey, good morning.
- 1:04:44Speaker 12: I got a lot to unpact. I make it quick.
- 1:04:47Speaker 12: The first things first they are playing with house money
- 1:04:50Speaker 12: with me. I think made that on every single one
- 1:04:53Speaker 12: of his promises in his first season, which is crazy.
- 1:04:56Speaker 12: In his opening press conference, I said, going then to
- 1:05:00Speaker 12: this game and to the Chargers game, that I think
- 1:05:03Speaker 12: I said to myself. I didn't say this really to
- 1:05:05Speaker 12: anybody else, but I said to myself, I think this
- 1:05:07Speaker 12: team can win even if they lose the turnover battle
- 1:05:10Speaker 12: if it's minus one. This coming game, I think we're
- 1:05:13Speaker 12: gonna if we're even I don't know that we win.
- 1:05:15Speaker 12: I think we're gonna have to at least get one
- 1:05:17Speaker 12: turnover off these guys, or win the turnover battle by
- 1:05:21Speaker 12: plus one.
- 1:05:21Speaker 8: At least.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:05:25Speaker 12: I think we can test these guys deep. I think
- 1:05:28Speaker 12: we should be able to bootleg out to Daniel Hunter's side.
- 1:05:31Speaker 12: I wouldn't do it with Will Anderson because he's too complete,
- 1:05:33Speaker 12: but player and Evan I know. I give Alex a
- 1:05:36Speaker 12: lot of love on the show. I got to give
- 1:05:38Speaker 12: you somebody, so I want you to shine. I want
- 1:05:42Speaker 12: you to tell me two things. One deceased cut of
- 1:05:48Speaker 12: a similar game plan that Joshua employee like they played
- 1:05:51Speaker 12: against in Super Bowl forty nine. I know they had
- 1:05:54Speaker 12: Michael Bennett, they didn't really have too many other game
- 1:05:57Speaker 12: wreckers on the defeat defensive line and what are what
- 1:06:01Speaker 12: do you think are going to be the best concept
- 1:06:04Speaker 12: past concepts? Sorry to beat this Houston defense. I'll take
- 1:06:09Speaker 12: it off there. Thanks, guys.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Can I go back to somebody said at the beginning
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: real quick, because I just think it's an interesting point
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: And this isn't to pick on Patty. He just said
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: something that I've heard this week that I want to differentiate.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: He mentioned that Vrabel followed through on all the promises
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: he made in his introductory press conference. Those weren't promises,
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: those are pillars and they were objectives, right, And I
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: just I want to point this out because I think
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: it's so core to understanding what Mike Vrabel's trying to establish.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: He didn't go out there and say that stuff to
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: be braggadocious. Yeah, he didn't go out there and say
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: that stuff to say, I like, we're going to the AFCAS,
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: We're gonna win the AFC's because we're knowing the paida.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Because that he's just setting a baseline expectation. Because when
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: he says that, as you know, he set it as
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: a goal and he gave them something to reach. The
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: goal wasn't necessarily to get it done your one. I'm
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: sure they're glad to do it. But you know, it's
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: not like the idea that it's a promise.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: They were goals. They're they're not even goals, they're pillars.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: It's it's it's pillars.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: Like the team identity poster. Those are pillars, right, I
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: think for infinished that's the piller. I think winning the
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: division is in some ways a pillar. Like I don't know.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: When I hear people say like, Okay, he fulfilled the promise,
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: it implies finality to it. Yeah, there's no finality to this.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: Hopefully there shouldn't be. But like I just, I don't
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: know when I hear it like promise kept. Like I just,
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: I understand, I think it under sells what they're building.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: So no offense to Patty, Yeah, I just I've heard
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: a couple of people phrase it that way. No, he
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: would like if if he had to go up and
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: give a state of the Patriots press conference, kind of
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: the same kind of press conference after this year, Hey, Mike,
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: what are your goals, what are your pillars, what are
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: the objectives? I don't think he would change a single
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: He probably wouldn't say we're not good enough to take
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: advantage of bad football, well, because they clearly are now.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: Well in January they weren't different roster. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: So like he might not say that part now, But
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: like if he had to go give that press conference
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: today and answer the same questions, really not much is
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: going to change. And if he had to do that
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: every year, I don't think much is gonna change. I
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: don't think it becomes I don't I don't think the
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: goal swings up. I don't think the goal swings down. Like, Okay,
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: we did this box check. I think it's for each
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: individual year. This is what we're gonna set. Is the
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: expectation we're going to reach it. It's not a promise.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: It's like you said, it's an objective and it's a
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: repeatable objective.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: All right, Lucas is in man, what's up? Lucas? Lucas?
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: All right? I left him on all for a while. Later, Lucas, callbackay,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: we can go back to one of Patty's other points.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: I think you're gonna hit on there.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: All right, Well, I want to start talking about the Texans.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I want to give that it's it's due. So here
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: here's my opinions on the Texans, and I wanna I
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: want to preface this with this is not me saying
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: that this is going to be a cake walk. You're
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: gonna get in trouble on Twitter, and it's not me
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: saying it's gonna be a cake walk. This is not
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: me disrespect the Texas. I don't like the Broncos. Okay,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: I don't like that team. I don't like that coach
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: me and he is different. You don't like the Bills.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: I was gonna say I don't like the Broncos. Saturday
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: our like conflicting hate watches are gonna go, that's great,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: that's gonna be well see it's but it's also hard because, like,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: I also wouldn't mind being the one that kicks the
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Broncos out of the playoffs. So if they lose to.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Buffalo, would mind being the one that kicks the Bills out.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Now, I'm just saying I also want the easier matchup,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: which I think is the Broncos. I kind of thin
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: even going there that they want to play the Bills.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: Again, I think they do too.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: I think they they probably wanted to play the Steelers again.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Frankly, I think.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: They they they really feel like they left Buffalo off
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: the hook in Week fifteen, which they did. They had
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: a twenty one point lead. I think it was right
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: or twenty whatever it was. So, but we might even
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: watch that game together on Saturday anyway. That's going to
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: be an all time the Brunch watch the I don't
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: like Denver. That everyone knows that. I don't like the quarterback,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: you don't like the head coach. You have your own
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: version of what the Bills are to me. Now, this
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: is great. Sean Payton, like Josh, I think Sean Payton
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: his press conference the other day was again just like
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: hubrious and ridiculous. What the hate? It's great? Keep going,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: this is no, no, no, keep going on the quarterback clip.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: I'm done right. This is not that with the Texans.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Your ears getting a little hot, okay a little bit that.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: That's not that, Like I'm not saying this about the Texans,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like, I'm not trying to
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: be disrespectful towards a really really good defense. Okay, So
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: I'm just putting that out there.
- 1:10:34Speaker 11: Uh.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: That being said, I like the Patriots in this game
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: and I'll tell you why I like the Patriots in
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: this game. I will always take my chances with Josh
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: McDaniels against a defense that does what it does, a
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: defense that doesn't game plan very much. It doesn't send
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: a lot of creatives or exotics. I call them exotics.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: Like you know, they don't spin the dial, they don't
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: blitz a lot, they don't disguise pressure, they don't they
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: do what they do. They line it up. They put
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: four guys down on the line of scrimmage, they put
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: seven guys in coverage, and they line it up and
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: they say, playball, and let's we're going to be better.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: We have better talent, we have better execution, and to
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: their credit, they are damn good at seat.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Those are the kind of on either side of the ball,
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: because there's offenses that operate that way too. We talked
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: a little week a bit last week. Josh McDaniels gets
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: predictable at times, but he can get away with it.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: The talenty as.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Those are the kind of groups that scare me because it's, oh,
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: we don't need to get fancy, we don't need to
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: confuse you, we don't need it. You can know exactly
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: what we're doing and we can still beat you because
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: we're that good. Like that mentality, the talent you have
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: to have to have that mentality at this point.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: Now you know if a three and ten team is
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: lining up that way, yeah, barbecue Chicken alerts. So like
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: a team at this point in the year that plays
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: that way scares me because they know how good they are.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: But I push The reason why I push back on
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: that is because like as a as a nexus and
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: O's guy. Yeah, every coverage has voice. It's Jimmy's and Joe's,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: not X's. And no, I'm telling you, every coverage has
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: voice the quarterback. You said that last week coverage has holes.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: Right, But but you have to have the talent to
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: exploit that.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: Yes and no, Like if you're gonna go out there
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: and they're gonna play the obviously not but if they
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: if you go out there, uh, they play three different coverages.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: They play corners, they play Cover three, and they play man.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: That's it two man, right, Uh, normally it's cover one.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: That was more of a facetious joke that I sent you,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: not a that was not actually accurate. They played three
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: different coverages.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: Send me the picture for Madden the play.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, because that's what it is. They send three different
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: they played three different coverages. They played nickel defense with
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: five defensive backs, and they play with a four man
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: rush a linebacker. I think Petri is probably sneakily their
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: best player, really as good as Anderson and Hunter and
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: stantly are.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, I wouldn't go I like him. I won't
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: go that far.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Would I would say he's their X factor.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: He's the most impactful player. I don't know about that.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: He's there. He's their biggest X factor. He's the reason
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: why they can hold up in nickel. Like if he
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: doesn't if he wasn't as physical. Yeah, he's the reason
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: why that they can hold up in nickel. But when
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: you go up against you know, to Patty's question, when
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: you go up against the defense like that. I really
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: like McDaniels and I really like May as a young
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: quarterback who's uber talented. He's not going to get confused
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: by what he's looking at. He's going to understand the
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: coverages that they're running. They're gonna have plans for all
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: of them. Uh. You know when he plays zone, especially
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: zones like the Texans play, Uh, you know, there's a
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: lot of different flood concepts, you know, just like the
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: one that they ran on on Hunter Henry's touchdown last week.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: That beat those coverages that throw the ball outside the
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: numbers against those coverages, which not every quarterback can do consistently,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: but yours can. The other angle, you know that Patty
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: mentioned about throwing over the top. You know, these are
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: my three pillars. Okay, my three pillars to this whole
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: thing and this whole take, and I have one other
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: spicy take that we'll get to in a second. They
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: as good as they are. They are fourteenth in the
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: league in terms of explosive pass play rate allowed. How
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: oft right next for the Chargers. So no, no, the
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: Chargers were good. The Chargers were top five. They're right
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: in the middle of the pack, which for a great
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: defense is a little bit lower than you would expect.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: So they are susceptible to big pass plays. They do
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: give up big pass plays at again, they're not thirtieth,
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: but they give up big pass plays a little bit
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: more than you would expect for a great defense. The
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: other thing that I think is really important in this game,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: and you brought this up to me yesterday when we
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: were texting about it. Have you seen their numbers against
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: scrambles so and against mobile quarterbacks, it's they're not great.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: They have allowed and.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: I found I found part of the breakdown. I couldn't
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: find the whole thing. Most of it is scrambles, not
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: all of it. They have allowed the most yards per rush.
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: Second most yards per rush to quarterbacks in the NFL
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: is here at six point four yards per carry. Yeah,
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: most of that on scrubs. Now they have the fewest
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: quarterback rushing attempts against. So there's the volume skews a
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: little bit. But you can run on this even I've
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: been I think as much as anybody. We have a
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: bunch of people calling why won't they use Drake May's legs?
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Why won't they use Drake? This is a I've always said,
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: it's not worth the risk. I'd rather run him not
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: enough than too much.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: In the playoffs.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Now, right now you're in the playoffs. You're against a
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: team that doesn't have a lot of weaknesses.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: This is one of them.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: This is a game where where I'm kind of telling
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Drake May, you see it, you go and protect yourself,
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: get down. But because they got some Petrie al Shai ere.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: School.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: These guys are gonna try to take a nice way
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: of saying it with these guys are gonna try to
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: take his head off. Yeah, but like it's like you say,
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: it's the playoffs, you caught it, you got to kind
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: of try to do it. I think that that's it's
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: just a card you can play that. I'm okay with
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: them being reluctant to play most of the time. This
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: is why you're reluctant to play it. So when you
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: have a game like this, he's in better shape for it.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: So I think they can be beat over the top.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: And I I want to add to that, we're also
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: talking about the best deep ball thrower in the NFL. Yeah,
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: so this is a huge area of strength. The number
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: one most explosive passing offense in the league. First, a
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: middling explosive pass and if.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: They want to stay in man and you start hitting
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: them deep, you're going to get them into two man.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: And now the rush lanes are going to be everywhere
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: because you're not going to have a spy or robber
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: whoever in the middle of the field.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: That's why I think running in this game is important
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: because it pulls that safety down that other the player
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: that they could maybe have play robber or play over
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: the top and too deep. Now you have to you know,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: you have to allocate a spy to Drake May and
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: now you're going to have a single coverage all over
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: the map. And now you're just going to be playing
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: and free with the single high safety up top, Like
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: it just opens up the passing game if he's running.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: So they're bad against scrambles. They're bad again there I
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: shouldn't say bad. They're bad against scrambles. They're middling against
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: a big play plays down the field, you know, deep passes, middling. Uh.
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: The last thing that you know is really sneakily under
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: the hood that I think is extremely important in this matchup.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: They don't play like any base defense. They play all
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: pretty much all nickel. But when they are in base defense,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: they struggle to stop the pass in base defense. So
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: how can the Patriots get them in base They are Munford?
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: They are Munford. So I think that that's probably the
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: Asian walk. That might be like the last thing that
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: you try, kind of like they did with the Chargers. Like,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: I don't know if you come out in that because
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: I don't know if you want to waste that early
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: on in the game. Now, maybe they do because they
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: feel like they want to get a lead on this team,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: which I think is a way that they could approach it.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: But the biggest thing that I look at is under
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: the hood against six O line jumbo. And let me
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: preface this was saying it's not a huge sample size,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: but against six O line jumbo, they're only twenty first
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: in EPA per pass. They're first in EPA per pass normally, right,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: so they're the best pass defense in the league against
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: like standard formations. They are twenty first against six O line.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: So average against deep passes bad, just fight out bad
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: against running quarterbacks.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: And I just want to I said six point five
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: yards per carry earlier.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: It's higher than that.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: It's higher because I forgot to take out kneel downs.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: I'm trying to figured it out.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: I have the numbers I'll give you in a second,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: and uh, seven point two yards per carry. It's more
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: than that, and then the that's all. Now now now
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: you're interrupting me. Now I'm losing my train of thought.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: They are on scrambles, they're averaging all allowing almost ten
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: yards to carry on pure scrambles. So I think what
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: you're factoring in is like the designed ru yeah, which
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: tend to push the number down. But I would so
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: middling against deep passes, bad file, bad against scrambles, and
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: then below average against six oh line passing out of
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: six oh line, all three of those boxers or boxes
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: the Patriots can check at a high level. Like we're
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: not just talking about oh yeah, they could do that,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: like we're talking about the six ozer line package is
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: a regular thing in their offense, Like that is a
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: a regular package that they use every single week. They
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: are the best deep ball passing team in the NFL
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: and have been all season long. And they have a
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: dual threat quarterback who can run. And I thought on
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: Monday Night, a younger, more nimble Aaron Rodgers got out
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: of the pocket a couple of times. Aaron Rodgers at
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: this stage of his career, can't really do anything with that,
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: but Drake may can. So if Drake May can get
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: outside the pocket, which I want to talk about how
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: and why this happens. So the Texans only rush four guys,
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: they don't blitz and they only rush four so on
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: the offensive line, you know, going across the line, there's
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: six gaps. So if you don't have six guys, that
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: means that there's two open gaps. Right, if you rush
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: four into six gaps, that leaves two open gaps. So
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: for a quarterback like, there's gonna be escape routes if
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: you can find them. They're just are It's just numbers
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: in math. So as a team that only rushes four
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: all the time, they leave open gaps on the line
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: of scrimmage. And of course they are aggressive, you know,
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: they they want to get after it. Those two edges especially,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: but Rankins on the inside too is also a problem,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: and so they don't just sit back like they want
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: to pin their ears back and they want to get
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: after the quarterback. So Drake may can get out of
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: the out of the pocket in this game, now, I
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: would highly recommend he stepped through the middle of the
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: pocket and not try to go out in the back
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: of the pocket, which is what Josh Allen kept on
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: trying to do earlier this season when they played the Texans.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: He kept going backwards, which is not what you want
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: to do because those edges are so fast that they're
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: going to catch you. But if you go up through
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: the middle of the pocket. There's a lot of options,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: you know, a lot of things that open up for
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: you if you do that sort of thing. That's where
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: al Shaier is it is. But there's a lot of
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: open space there on film with these guys. So that's
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: a big part of it. The other just element of
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: this too. I mentioned this yesterday on PU The Texans
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: are thirty first in the league and yards per carry
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: allowed to scrambles by quarterbacks. The thirty second team, the
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: last team in the league is a San Francisco forty
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: nine ers. They run the same defense, so's it's a
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: weak link of the defense of the scheme that they're
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: going up against. So I think in a uniquely unique
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: way to the Patriots personnhel to Drake May, I think
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: there are some areas that they can exploit against his
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: Texans defense. I really do. And I think the last
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: thing that I would say about all of this is
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: this is just kind of defense in the NFL. Now,
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: Like this isn't the eighty five Bears. Like there's no
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: more like dominant dominant defenses. There's really really good defenses. Yeah,
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: and the Texans are really really good defense. But to me,
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: there's always plays to be made on film. Even Pittsburgh
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: made some plays in that game on Monday Night. Now,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: they didn't make enough of them, but they even made
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: some plays down the field against his team too. I
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: just don't know if there's a if it's possible defensively
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: to like really go out there and take away every
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: blade of grass anymore. Like the offenses are too good,
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: the quarterbacks are too dynamic. The rules favor the offense.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: We know that too. Last thing, and you're gonna hate,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: so I can't wait to tell you this.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: You want to like go for a bunch of third
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: and fourth downs.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: No. The last thing is if you look at the
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: numbers and you look at the metrics, and I think
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: this all kind of stems from the fact that they
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: only rush for all the time and they don't do
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: a lot of scheming up front. Yep. The numbers do
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: not say that they have a dominant pass rusher, like
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: eighteenth in they're eighteenth in pressure eight they are sixth
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: in opponent time to throw. They're twenty first in a
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: pass rush win rate ESPN's metric. They're twenty first in
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: time to pressure.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: How are they twenty first in time to pressure but
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: sixth in time to throw.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know at that time the
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: time to throw stats, I don't know what. I don't
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: even look at those.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: The average of how long until the quarterback throws the ball?
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but I don't look at them because they're so
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: heavily skewed by crazy Like you know, Drake may had
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: like a sixteen second drop back last year.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: Like you know, I just thought they were the same
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: thing and people were just using different terms the same number.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: I'm not like, yards after the.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Catching is how quickly does the next gen register them
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: getting a pressure? Yes to all that you have? Any more?
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: You have any more of these magic numbers? I mean,
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: I could pull them, Like I'm just telling you, I
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: don't what do your eyes tell you? My eyes tell
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: me that Hunter and Anderson are beasts. But yep, I
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think that. I don't think that
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: this defense.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: Is know what I saw against Pittsburgh. I know what
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: I unbeat Pittsburgh. I know what it sa against Buffalo
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: Arlers here. I know what I saw against bunch of teams.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: They get to the quarterback. Of course, they get to
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: the quarterback. Nobody's saying they don't think it to the
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: quarterback at a high level. They get to the quarterback
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: at a high level. But I don't think that they
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: get to the quarterback super quickly. I think that there's
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: going to be time back there. Now we could get
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: into this game and I could be totally.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: Wrong, but Dave and.
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: Chase the front it's they have really good coverage too,
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: So it doesn't matter if they're not getting there if
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: nobody's open.
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: But I what happened to Justin Herbert last week, But
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: I think that that is not getting enough credence in
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: this whole Texans defense. Then coverage, Yes, that's fair. I agree.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: I think that they take away the first read better
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: than any defense in the league. Yeah, they have one
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: of the best top four. But that's but that's what
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: it is, man corner in the league. Like when you play,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: when you play like these types of teams, Obviously, the
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: pass rushers get the sacks, they get the strip sacks,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: they get a lot of the love. Instinctly gets a
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: lot of love too. But but the point I'm trying
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: to get to is just I think this is a
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: eye test. Wise, it's a scary pass rush numbers wise,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: it's not quite as good as maybe the eye test
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: tells you that it is. The truth is probably somewhere
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: in the middle. I don't know if this pass rush
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: is like as good as it gets hyped up to be.
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: Sometimes now Anderson and Hunter are problems. I really like
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: rankings on the inside. I think he's a really good player.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: But I think that you can handle edge pressure. You
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: can chip them, you can move up in the pocket,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: you can you know, there's ways to mitigate edge pressure.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: We saw somebody do it here for twenty years, right,
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: so there's ways to do that that. Those are my
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: takes on the Texans defense. I hope it didn't come
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: off as like me saying that they suck, because I
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: don't think they suck.
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: No, again, you're doing the thing I oh no, it
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: was the broncos of your bills. I was gonna say, like,
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: you're not saying they suck, You're just saying maybe some
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: of the credit is misplaced, some.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: Of the credits misplaced. And I would also say that
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: just watching them on tape, they give up more big
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: plays in the passing game than you would expect. Okay,
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: they're really hard to run on and they're really hard
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. If they're playing with leads, the
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: pass strudge gets overwhelming, no doubt about it. Like if
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: you're and I think that's exactly what happened to Pittsburgh, right,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: like you get behind and you know, I when I
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: watched Pittsburgh and maybe like the Allen game is maybe
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: more ridicative of your kind of argument here, But when
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: I watched Pittsburgh, like Aaron Rodgers is can't move, so
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: like I just if he refuses to be hit, is
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: an absolute sitting duck back there, Like there was one
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: sack that I don't even think that any of the
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: Texans past rush was actually touch He just fell down
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: because he does want to get hit. So like I did,
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: I think this is a completely different animal when you
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: go up against the.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: Guy that But look what they did to your guy,
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: Josh Allen.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: So on the other side, with the Texans offense, I
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: actually thought, you know, watching them on film with Kaylee
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: and Nick Keley, their offensive coordinator, I saw the method
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: to the madness, like this is not last week with
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Greg Roman, when the Chargers were an absolute mess on offense,
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: like they couldn't block anybody, Their route combinations stunk, they
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: were it was a mess. It was a mess. So
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: we talked about that this Texans offense is better, is
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: more well coordinated, it's better coached. Now I think Herbert
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: is a better quarterback than Stroud, but it's close enough.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: So I think that this is really just like across
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: the board, like the Chargers were kind of like JV
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: and this is varsity, right, and I think off it's
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: the same thing with the Texans offense. Most of the
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: stuff that they're doing is McVeigh.
- 1:28:07Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: They have a little bit of McDaniels sprinkled in there
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: from Kayley's influence with the Patriots, but he's really running
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: the McVeigh system.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: They run a lot of duo, They run a lot
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: of outside zone in the run game, they move the
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: pocket a lot in the play action passing game, and
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: then they have like their bunches and their condensed looks
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: and things like that that they throw out of in
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: their drop back passing game. So I think the biggest
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: thing that I see though with them is they've struggled
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: a lot with the pressure plan this year. They've struggled
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: a lot on the offensive line. They've struggled a lot
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: against blitzes. You know, Stroud when he's kept clean versus
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: when he's under pressure is a big split. You know,
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: he's tenth in the league in passer rating when he's clean.
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: He's twenty seventh in the league and passer rating while
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: he's under pressure. So there's a huge split there. So
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: I fully expect the Patriots to play this the exact
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: same way they played the Chargers. It's a bad offensive line,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: it's a quarterback that's not handling pressure very well. Well.
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: It's a quarterback that with a young offensive coordinator, it
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: doesn't look like he has a lot of answers to
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: pressure at the moment, which is usually a coordination thing,
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: not a quarterback thing. You know, you have to have
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: a plan of like if they send zero, like, what's
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: my check? What's my hot? Like, what's my plan here?
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: How am I beating this? So in the second half
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: against the Chargers, you know, because I watched the Chargers
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: and kind of crossed over. In the second half against
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: the Chargers, the Chargers just started heating them up, and
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: Mintor blitzed him like forty percent of the time in
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: the second half. He had like sixty passing yards the
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: entire second half of that game. I fully expect the
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: Patriots to come after him. Now, does that change if
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: Christian Cazalez doesn't play, Maybe, but if Nico Collins doesn't
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: play on their side kind of wash? Yeah, how much
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: does it really change? Especially?
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: I mean, they only have two guys with over forty
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: one targets and it's Collins and Dalton Schultz. So if
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: he has to throw a hot a lot Stroud, that's
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: gonna be tough.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: I'm with you.
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: I think this salt like last week, with the one
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: key difference of they ultimately ended up blitzing Herbert and
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: it worked.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: We talked about it earlier. That was an in game adjustment.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: They kind of had to get to that point with
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: the secondary because Herbert had been really good against the
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: blitz this year before that game. Yeah, and they had
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: to speed him up first to get the point where
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: they could do that.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: And they and they beat the offense, so they beat
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: the protection more than they beat Herbert and a lot
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: of those games.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: Stroud is not of been good against the blitz.
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: No, he's like seventeenth against the blitz. It gets even
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: worse if you look at cover zero and zone blitzes.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: They've been really, really good against Man and then they're
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: like a top five team in the league against Man.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: I'll add to this going into that game, admitvidly, I
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: didn't know Zach Kor's bag ran that deep.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and now I do.
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: And I think it might run deeper than that because
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: that was a wild card round. Gotta imagine he's cooking
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: more up. Yep, So shout out to that. I mean,
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: great game from Zach Korr. But like, let's see it again.
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: I think you blitz a crap at him.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: I think you send the house at him, make him
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: throw hot, make him throw the receivers he doesn't trust.
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: You know, their run game, good game against Pittsburgh, what
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: he marks. We both liked him in the drafts.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: It's gotten a little bit better during this win streak
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: of Theirs. You know, they run a lot of duo
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: you know, just double team up front and just trying
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: to you kind of go downhill at you. But if
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: they beat it with a heavy run game against the Blitz,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: I think you tip your cap at that point. Yeah yeah,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: I just looking at it, you know, looking at Stroud,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: especially watching that charge of game from what week seventeen,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: it was, I was like a sneaky, big game for
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: both teams, and that game they just the first half
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: he threw for like a buck eighty and two touchdowns
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: because he was cleaned the whole first half of the game.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: The second half of the game, Mintor started blitzing him
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: like crazy, and he was I think six for ten
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: for fifty nine yards in the final two quarters of
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: that game. So I fully expect them to blitz the
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: crap out of them. Yeah. I put up the stat
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: on Twitter last night. Out of twenty nine qualified quarterbacks,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: he's twenty eighth in EPA against cover zero. He's a yeah.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: He is not been good against cover zero this year,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: and most of the time, just like with the Chargers,
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: there's just free runners coming at them, you know, like
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: they just don't know how to block it. It's not
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: so much like I don't think Stroud's a puddle or
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: any of Their line is not great. Their line is
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: really bad. It's not just not great. Well. Coming off
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: the Chargers last week, maybe it looks better by comparison,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: but they're thirtieth in the league and pass rush, you know,
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: pass blocking win rate, their thirty second. They're actually worse
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: than the Chargers in run blocking. Yeah, I eye test.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: I just felt like I was watching a step up
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: from the Chargers you were.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: I agree. I think they're better than they're They're Chargers
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: were a trained Trent Brown played well Againsteelers. The Chargers
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: are a train wreck. Yeah, that fired their offensive coordinator
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: on their own line. Texans line is just bad. The
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: Texans are hiring Nick Keley after this game. That this
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: is a different This is a much more well coordinated
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: unit than that.
- 1:32:49Speaker 12: One.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: More thing on Stroud So and this some Patty mentioned
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: when he called in and we didn't get through right
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: away mention need to win the turnover battle.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: So this isn't not like the Chargers where Okay, they're
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: gonna take the ball away, They're gonna give the ball away.
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: Houston is one of the best turnover teams in the league.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: Both had He had a weird outlier game last week
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: with so that but that's what I was gonna say.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: But strapful five five times last week. Yeah, but like
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: a lot of them, you know, going back and watching
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: it like it was bad snaps all right, Well, that
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: can be a product of that's not gonna happen again.
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: That can be a product of the pass rush getting
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: in your head.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: No, center, No, that's not gonna happen again. You don't
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: need it. Was super weird. They had like three aborted snaps,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: like that's not error again there.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: Well, okay, so we still had two fumbles plus the interception.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: Did he only had two fumbles all year? Fumbles were
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: kind of problem for him earlier in his career. A
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: much better year with it this year. They've only turned
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: the ball over twelve times, but Pittsburgh kind of got
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: to him. And if you can speed them up, the
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: turnover number is gonna go up, and you're gonna need
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: that because they're not They don't especially fumbling, they don't
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: really turn the ball over.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: So that that was my last like big picture thing
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: about this game, and then we'll take the rest of
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: the calls and everything. Field position really matters in a
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: game like that, yes, and that relates to turnover margin.
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: The Texans offense averages the third best starting field position
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: in the NFL because of their defense scond best. It's third.
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: I'm looking at right now, second best.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: It might be tied for second, but it's like thirty
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: two and a half yards. I just looked at it.
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: It's thirty two and a half, it says second. Okay,
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: so is this one of those things, like a different
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: metric for time, because.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: In so much semantics arguments on this.
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: Show, semantics, it's second, it's not third. I'm looking at
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: Pro Football Reference right now.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: I literally looked this up last night. It said it
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: was third on the same website that you're looking at.
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: Let me see this is probably tied for second.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: Then all fine, it's too funny anyways, second or third? Okay.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: The big reason why is because they're third in the
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: league and takeaways on defense, right, they turned the ball
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: over twenty nine times on defense, So the defense is
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: setting up the offense, whether it's the defense scoring on
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: its own or it's the offense getting on a short
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: field and then.
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: Scoring on a short or tied for second with the
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: forty nine ers, that's why you saw third.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: Thank you?
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: So third tie for second?
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: Well, my guess is is that there's a bunch of
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: decimals there that Pro Football Focus just filters out because
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: no one needs to see the decimals. Yeah. Maybe so
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: they rank it correctly, but they just don't show you
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: like no.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: Because then their back end would say because it gives
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: the ranking individually a second, So that's got to be
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: tied for second.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: Okay, the they're very good, yeah, not category because of
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: the defense. The defense puts them on short fields. The
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: defense turns the ball over. If you look at their
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: like per drive stats offensively and their EPA, it's not
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: a very good offense. They're twentieth in points per drive.
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: They're like twenty first or something like that in EPA
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: per play, twenty first in points per drive. See, we'll do.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: They're tied again. No, that one wasn't tied.
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: They're twenty first.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: No, they're definitely tied. I looked this up last.
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: Looking on Pro Football Reference. Yeah, it's twenty first. I'm
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: looking at it was two point h right, two point zero.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: The Commanders are two point three. They're twentieth And what
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: did I say? Oh, they know they are tied with
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: the Eagles. Sorry, but they're for twenty first, twenty second,
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: Like I literally twenty first.
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: You I literally just said they're tied with somebody, and
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: you said they're not tied with anybody, not for twenty
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: not for twentieth, Oh my god, whatever, twenty twenty first.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: They're also tied for eighteenth in night their yards for drive.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: The point is is that they drive. Sorry, they do.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: They don't have to drive the field a lot. But
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: if you put them on long fields, I'm not super consistently.
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: I'm not super confident that they're going to consistently drive
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: the field for points. If you give them points by
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: fumble or pick sixing or you know they trit you
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: Drake May fumbles on his own ten yard line or
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: something like that, then yeah, they're gonna take the points.
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: But if you make CJ straudo seventy eighty yards at
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: a time, I feel better. So feel pretty good.
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: Can I give you one more take that you're probably
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: gonna hate. Yes, you get an opportunity to take the
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: points in this game.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: You take the points.
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: Let's see how the game fold Take the if it
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: unfolds the way we're kind of describing, take the points.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: Let's see how the game unfolded. I think there might
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: be more points than we think. Take the points. I
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: think there might be more points.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: Playoffs has been a caval rate of comedy of coaches
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: not taking the points. Agree, and I think it's hurt
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: them more and it's helped them some. Okay, like a
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: couple of times it's it's worked out. I think it
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: hasn't worked out more than it has.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: Take the points, so uh, I think that's pretty much
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: all I had. I think that, you know, but really,
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: to me, that that's the if you want to kind
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: of whittle all the crap I just threw at you down.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: The one thing. To me, this game feels very winnable
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: if you don't turn the ball over basically, and that's
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: that's way easier said than done. Last week and they
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: turned ball over that this one. This one doesn't feel
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: winnable if you turn it over multiple times because I
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: don't think that the Texans offense is going to poop
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: its pants like the Charger. I also think.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: To take the points argument and look, it ultimately ended
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: up being more than a three point game. But how
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: different is it if the Chargers kicked the field goal
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: after that fumble and go up three nothing like.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: I just think I think is going to take the points.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: I just think that on both sides, I think that
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: people are anticipating another you know, slug fast, another rock fight.
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: I think this game gets into the twenties. I don't
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: think that this is a super low scoring game. What's
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: the total? It just this is the way I feel
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: about it. I could. I think that Drake May is
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: going to be two heavyweights standing in the middle of ring,
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: exchanging haymakers, and so there's gonna be some turnovers, probably
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: by the Patriots. There's going to be some points by
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: the Patriots, and we'll see where it comes out. In
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: the wash forty and a half total. I go over
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: and then waste a three points spread like it might
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: be twenty three to twenty, but I go over. I
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: don't think this is going to be sixteen to three
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: or you know whatever, you know, make it a closer game.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: I really don't, but we'll see. Can I take these calls?
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Go for it? Okay, let's go to Jeremiah and Framingham.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: What's up Jeremiah? Hello? Yeah, going once? Okay, call back in.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: We'll get you on. Sean is in Vancouver. What's up, Sean.
- 1:39:08Speaker 7: I was looking at the Guardian cap that Wilson was wearing,
- 1:39:13Speaker 7: and it seemed tighter or snug. It looked looks good
- 1:39:17Speaker 7: like we're the other Guardian caps from other players like
- 1:39:20Speaker 7: Peach or something that they kind of look like misfitting bubbles.
- 1:39:25Speaker 7: So I was wondering if you noticed that or knew
- 1:39:27Speaker 7: anything about that, and Alex, I have one question for you,
- 1:39:30Speaker 7: and it might be a little tricky.
- 1:39:32Speaker 12: I know a lot of the players with the Patriots.
- 1:39:36Speaker 7: From last year who were let go because it didn't
- 1:39:38Speaker 7: fit the system or there was something you know, that
- 1:39:41Speaker 7: didn't they wanted to go a different way. But I
- 1:39:44Speaker 7: don't think that's the case with David Andrews. Like I
- 1:39:47Speaker 7: think David Andrews, if he were completely healthy, like the
- 1:39:50Speaker 7: way he was before the injury, I think he'd still
- 1:39:52Speaker 7: be there in Stille of Bradbury. I think Bradbury's like
- 1:39:55Speaker 7: similar size and they wanted someone like that, where Andrews
- 1:39:59Speaker 7: like probably wasn't ready to make the team coming back
- 1:40:03Speaker 7: after that injury. So that's why he's out there, and
- 1:40:06Speaker 7: that's why I retired. So I'll leave you with that
- 1:40:08Speaker 7: and go past.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: Thanks Sean. I'm not sure. I don't know. If I
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: don't know what the question was in there, I don't
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: know either, But I don't think that Andrews was in
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: their plans.
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the injury definitely didn't help, but yeah, but.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: It's all factor, you know, it's all part of it.
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: You know, Guys like Andrews, Jawan Bentley, Dietrich Wise, Jonathan Jones.
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: Well, so did they say on the broadcast Jowan Bentley
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: was retired? Yeah, because he tweeted something that like not retired.
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I don't think that they thought those guys
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: had a ton left in the tank and we're ready
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: to move.
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: Some of it was stylistically too, Yeah. I mean, I
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: don't know if he's asked us like I do the
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: podcast with David. I yeah, I don't have that much
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: insight into that, but I don't you know, the injury
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: definitely didn't help.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: No, I mean, the injury was the number one reason
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: that he's not playing for sure, I would think, I mean,
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: I don't know that, but I mean I think if
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: he is healthy, he probably would have tried at least
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: come to camp and given it all. Right, DJ is
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: in Arizona. What's up, dj Yo?
- 1:41:11Speaker 7: What's up?
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: Evan? What's up Alex?
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: How you're doing?
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: You're good?
- 1:41:15Speaker 5: Good?
- 1:41:15Speaker 11: How about yourself?
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: Good? Yes?
- 1:41:18Speaker 12: Sir?
- 1:41:19Speaker 11: So, I love the work, y'all.
- 1:41:20Speaker 12: Do.
- 1:41:20Speaker 11: I appreciate, thank you all the numbers and stuff. I
- 1:41:22Speaker 11: love listening in hearing all the nerd talk that wasn't
- 1:41:25Speaker 11: ever my thing.
- 1:41:26Speaker 12: So hear y'all do.
- 1:41:26Speaker 11: It gives me a lot more insight and I do
- 1:41:28Speaker 11: appreciate it. I love how all gives you heckle on
- 1:41:31Speaker 11: it on PU.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: Evan me up awesome.
- 1:41:34Speaker 11: The reason I called in was because I've seen on
- 1:41:38Speaker 11: Gunzo's backup Instagram page he posted I'm back by g
- 1:41:43Speaker 11: Herbo and it was him and Milton Williams in a post,
- 1:41:46Speaker 11: so that may be indicating that he passed concussion protocolingy
- 1:41:49Speaker 11: may be out there for practice. That's just what I
- 1:41:51Speaker 11: was calling in to let y'all know about hopefully some
- 1:41:53Speaker 11: good news and I hope you have a great day
- 1:41:55Speaker 11: and Evan, I'll see.
- 1:41:55Speaker 6: You on PU later.
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: Sounds good, DJ, Yeah, I did see that on his
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: alt account his like main marketing. What does it call it? Finsta?
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Is that like the altar counter? Is that something else?
- 1:42:06Speaker 8: No?
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: I think if Finsta's is like you're hiding your identity
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: on a fence guy and so that you can like
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: surf and do things without people knowing who you are.
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: This is like his own personal.
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: Instagram okay, and not like his his business his brand Okay.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Right, Uh, he did He did post that Alex and
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: I will be out of practice at like the two
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: o'clock hour, we'll find out. Mike Rabel's gonna talk. We'll
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: talk about Milton Williams being back.
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: That was my first thought was he's like, oh my
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: got milted back. Look at him having a big game
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: after the injury, just hyping his buddy up.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: Yeah, either way, were we're going to find out in
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: a couple of hours, So there's really no reason to speculate.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: But the one, you know, little piece, I'll say Travon
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: Henderson did play the following week.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: Trayvon Henderson played the following week. Jared Wilson missed two weeks,
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: Kaisham Booty missed one. Like you just don't it's concussions
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: are weird.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: You don't know, but I think that impossible. But it's
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: not impossible. It's not impossible. And the one thing that
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: gives me hope more so than Gonzo's cryptic Instagram posts
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: on Monday, uh, Mike Rabel was asked about it and
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: he said they wouldn't allow him to come back in
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: the game, meaning the independent neuro wouldn't allow him to
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: come back in the game, which tells me that maybe
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Gonzo was pushing to come back. In the game and
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: they were saying no. So that is just like a
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: small thing that maybe I'm looking too much into. But
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: I also feel like if it was no chance and
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: Gonzo was really feeling it, and I don't know if
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: you would have phrased any game back in the gaming
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: play just now, I thought I was interesting they ruled
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: him out.
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: Literally, was it the lad during the kneel downs? I
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: don't know if it's the last neel down, but like
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: they're getting rid of niel down and there's somebody in
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: the press box who announces over one of the pr
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: I think it's it's buddy Betty Right is doing it
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: this year. We'll announce like Christian Zalez ruled out, Christian
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: Zalez doubtful whatever, blah blah blah, Like there's somebody who
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: says that audibly, and like I'm thinking, like, why are
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: they announcing this right the game's over?
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: I think that is when it's a concussion and it's
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: like a protocol thing. I think it might happen required.
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: The fact it was that late.
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: Yeah, because I mean, does what twenty minutes in real time? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: all right, Jeremiah's back. He's in Framingham what's up Jeremiah.
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: Hey guys, I'm a big fan of the show.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: I just had a two quick questions. So one, I
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: was in the stadium last game and I heard Stephan
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: Dave's comments after that Gulette wasn't loud. I just want
- 1:44:33Speaker 6: to know, like what was going, Like, how in the
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: world was that not a playoff environment like I felt
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: like we were bringing it. I just want to hear
- 1:44:42Speaker 6: like what you guys think about other stadiums compared to Julette.
- 1:44:45Speaker 6: And then real quick too, do you think this is
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: the type of defense that you can just bomb on
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: like in the first drive, like early on, just get
- 1:44:53Speaker 6: like a couple of shots in because I feel like
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: if you get too like thirty yard touchdowns on this team,
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: I think it'll be the difference in the game.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: That Yeah, thanks for the call. So on the on
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: the stadium, on the atmosphere, I think the dig state.
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: Remember when Julian Edelman was yelling at Tom Brady you're
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: too old. Yeah, I think it was one of those Do.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: You think he was trolling? I think it was like
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: they can get like he's he knows there's another game.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: He wants to push you guys. The next level. I
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: think that was like, I agree, I think it was
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: a playful. Yeah, I don't think he really he's uh,
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: he's got like a kind of dry, sarcastic way about him,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: which you remember in training camp when he was talking
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: about whether he'd be ready week one, and it became
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: like kind of a whole thing. Yeah, because people don't
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: that's the just you know, getting to I don't want
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: to get to know him, and I don't know, I.
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: Get familiar with the way he speaks. They no, I
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: think that was all right. Yeah they were loud, but
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: we got another game next week. Let's see if they
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: can be like. Yeah, you know, I think it was
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: a good atmosphere.
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I did. On the whole. I don't think that Julie,
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: and I don't think it's the fans faults the way
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: all the time. Now it's better now that this the
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: big with the big scoreboard closing the lighthouse end a
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: little bit more, but it's not quite as Loud's a.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: Lot of places sound to escape, yeah, travel.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: I'd never been to Seattle, but Kansas City, you know
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: that place is rackus. And I'm not picking on Patriots
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: fans and saying that they're doing a bad job. It's
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: just a different environment. It's a different stadium set up,
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: it's different geography. You know, even even in Buffalo, that
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: place getting.
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: Right, the decibels aren't going to be as loud here
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: again just because of the construction. Yeah, I thought it
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: was a great environment. I thought the crowd, like I
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: got chills a couple of times during that game. Press
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: box was shaking, the threast box was shaking, like I
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: hadn't felt that way in a few years. Well, honestly,
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: it was a little similar when they got up in
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: the Bills game, but that that was a playoff environment.
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: That was so you know, I thought the awesome thing
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: to me was you had what was the first thing
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: they were there was So they announced that the starting lineups,
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: it was under it. So Will Campbell got a big pop,
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: Steph got a big pop coming out of tunnel, and
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: then the big MVP chance for Drake into the entire
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: crowd singing the national anthem, which was kind of cool.
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever seen that at Gillette. I've
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: seen it at t D. I don't think I've ever
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: seen that at Gillette. And then that went right into
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: a seven Nation Army chant leading up to kickoff, so
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: they were they were, And then I love how you
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: know all this and well because I remember thinking, I
- 1:47:26Speaker 2: double it was not paying attention to like this environment rules.
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: And then the Patriots get the ball first dead silent
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: when the Patriots, I mean it was I was like
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: weirdly silent.
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: It was the Patriots got the ball, So no, the
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: crowd was locked in. It was also like six' three
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: for the majority of the, game so it wasn't exactly
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: one of those. Games it has a ton of things
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: that you're.
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: Out, well no six three, game you're getting loud for
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: the defense a lot because the defense IS i, thought.
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: Come, on like we all know that people want to see.
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: TOUCHDOWNS i, thought no one wants to sit there and
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: watch a pun.
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: Fest, no but defans got, Loud like thefans didn't see
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: the energy gets sucked out.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: Because it was stores and Super bowl zones, different but
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: Like Super bowl fifty three was the.
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: Same, okay it was the fans who kept the energy
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: up even in a game where the entry usually gets sucked.
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: Out they were loud like.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: That like the whole argument of like like it gets
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: loud and defensive. Struggles it does not like it.
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: Does if the crowd knows what they're, doing and it,
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: Does i'll hold as.
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: Playbook it gets, loud like when you going back and
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: forth up and down the. Field that's when the place gets.
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: Balls, no sometimes it gets quiet because all, right we
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: know they're not gonna get to stop. Here i've seen
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: the crowd get kind of lethargic on. That i'll pull
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: the page play digs, playbook. THOUGH i think they can be, Louder,
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: OKAY i think y' all can be.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: Louder all, right let's Take elder's call and then we'll
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: wrap it. Up what's, Up? Beldrid hey, good.
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: Hey, hey, Enthusiasm but you got to be kicked me.
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: Right you think it's gonna be, like, look ain't gonna Be,
- 1:48:55Speaker 5: no it's it's a. War it's gonna be a.
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: Fight absolute.
- 1:49:00Speaker 5: Great MAY i want, HIM i want him to use his,
- 1:49:02Speaker 5: legs but them boy wasn't hit, him SO i don't
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: want to use it that. Much so they lay the
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: wood and those guys over the. Top most team that
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: did at the head. Feet we only got one, guy you,
- 1:49:15Speaker 5: know and they didn't you, Know but we don't use
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: him that. Much So i'm just. Worried worried about Is
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: Will campbell and what you call getting walked back like
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: they did last, game Because anderson And hunter are looking at,
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: that and that's What i'm worried, about you.
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: Know, yeah that's What that's what we're all worried.
- 1:49:34Speaker 12: About.
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Eldred, uh thanks for the. Call, sorry we gotta we
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: gotta get it get going. Here but, LOOK i didn't make.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: IT i tried to say it as many times AS i.

- 1:49:44Speaker 1: meant to come off as LIKE i thought it was
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: gonna be a cake. WALK i think Where i'm trying
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: to kind of get out to put a ball on this.
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: Though it's the, playoffs, guys like these are all gonna
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: be good teams, now like you're out of the wild card.
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: Round you're not going to get the tomato can now
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: like you. Are you're in it, now like you're in the. Tournament.
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: Now this is there's eight teams. Left you, know seventy
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: five percent in the league is at home right, now
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: there's eight teams. Left you're gonna play good. Teams you're
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: gonna play good. Defenses you're gonna probably play pretty good,
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: Quarterbacks like this is not going to be a cakewalk
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: for the rest of the. Way so just come in
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: here and, say, yeah they. Can't why why even show
