Transcript
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hi folks, welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is Ken McEuse again.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's time for this week's Friday morning GM with my co-host Basile Rico as far as how you do it.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: Life is good, Ken.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: Trend camp is finally arrived after an eventful off season, a sort of a busy off season, but I'm excited to hear some of your takeaway from camp.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now that we're really into the 2020 season.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we'll have a little bit of that as we go through.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to start off with talking about the Ravens pop situation, which is one of the worst in the national football league.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: They have five guys now in the pop list.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: The big news yesterday, not they met at BK, came off pop and was at practice.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be at briefly in uniform and I think it was almost like a show they were putting on out of it.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because he didn't take any snaps or anything like that.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's a little bit of
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Conditioning work on the side.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: I did not see him there in uniform today, although I could well be wrong about that But in case he Him being back from camp has a significant Implication to it and that is that he's passed the Raven's physical now and one of the hurdles was Do the Raven's doctors agree with non days?
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: It depended doctor right right?
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, he's been cleared He's been cleared off a pup on the first day camp is excellent excellent news
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: there was a lot of skepticism that he would be able to play again.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's got to make it through camp and continue to stay healthy, healthy enough to play, but this is probably some of the best outcome that could have happened.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: I suppose he will hit the podium at some point and the reporters will be able to ask him more specifics about his injury because we still don't really know exactly what it was and what kind of surgery he had.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: I know there's some hip-up protection, but I'm not sure how that would really, I mean, other players tell you about the surgeries and injuries on the why this would be secret.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: The player is not not constrained by hip-hop but it's talking about his own body, that's for sure.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: So he might be under some contractual requirement not to do it, but that would be different, so I don't believe the Ravens are going to put him at the podium.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: And if they do, it may come with certain conditions from a Chad steal or you know,
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're not going to ask him any questions about his injury, if you want to ask him about his rehab, that's fine, if you want to talk about how great it is to return a football, that's fine, and you know, down to not a whole lot of things you can ask him about.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: With non-being the full hypothetically presumably now.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's a good look at passwords.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they got played, they have depth on the D line.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: They have a couple different body types.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: They have a nice quartet on the edge.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: So if you can return to 78% of his peak level, maybe it's going to have one of the best passwords they've had in the team history, I think.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: It could be pretty good, Mike Green, by the way, through two days of camp has looked fricking awesome.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: So that is really good news.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Probably it's a bigger change in any of these, maybe including having to be gay back is the, you know, a huge uptick in Mike Green's play.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: And we don't know exactly who non-be's gonna be.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: We suspect.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: He'll still have some juice in the tank and hopefully does and hopefully he's not really limited in terms of a snap cap, but admittedly having a back under any circumstances is just great and I think he'll probably move right back into being appearing with Travis Jones, who's also right now on the PUP list unfortunately yes we guess it was pectoral surgery he was absent for many camp and I think we were wondering why.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, that's never good.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Pactorus is a pretty serious injury.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: Um, a little bit surprising, but apparently you should be somewhat close to returning from what I gather.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: So at the podium today, uh, mentor mentioned that he's shooting for the end of the first week of August approximately.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I, I wasn't sure whether what kind of coach mentor was going to be in terms of retaining information, you know, for, and to the lot, but this almost sounds like an optimistic guess as to when he'd be back.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, maybe the beginning of the radio season is a more realistic expectation of, hey, we're not going to play in the preseason anyways, that doesn't really matter.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, he'll be back for conditioning drills on the field, starting
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: We might at sea even 11 is on 11's at all, or if we do, it's going to be after the reporters who've done, you know, and very close to the beginning of the season.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, could be a few different things that really means, but I'm not expecting you to see a lot of Travis Jones this summer in terms of real football play.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's no reason to push him, so let's start to the schedule, and you have to know his deck was on the roster behind him, so that can, that are capable.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: So, you definitely want him help.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: for the season and for the back half of the schedule and the games and the division games get a little bit tougher.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: And John Jenkins, of course, is one of the other guys who's on the pop.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Same time frame given for him, injury is still undisclosed, exactly what it was.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Could get me could be a lot of things to the bigger guy.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to get into it.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: Teddy Buchanan, we still don't have a timeline on.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: And nobody, there was no update asked for, it was rebuked asked for the update on the two defensive linemen today.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: But if you can, and we haven't heard anything about when he might be back,
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: to Costa, it's a top 1% return.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm that percental recovery.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, as medicine continues to improve, we've seen players call back soon, I'm optimistic, but you know, he's going to obviously be on his timeline.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: Right, could be Trenton Simpson seems to be playing a lot right now.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Roy Kwan Smith was at the podium today.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: Had some very nice things to say about Trenton's mental nature with the game, you know, how plugged in he is right now.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, it's, it's a, he says it's at a higher level.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a bit before he's always had the great body.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: He always had it, you know,
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: a much better body than him, I think, is what he's basically saying.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: And both the him and the can, and he kind of, has talked about them being kind of like Greek gods, but Procoin is the most effective line-backer of the group.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the mental pros.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the mental pros.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the mental pros, the mental pros, that's something, and that's really what's been missing from Simpsons game.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: I thought we saw signs of it in the final month of last season.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I do think Mitch is going to find a way to, for hand to make an impact.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, Snaps are going to get crowded with all these, with all this talent on the front seven.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's a lot of talent.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: And you're talking, you know, a lot of people are saying they expect dying, a lot of dying, maybe one of the highest in the league, because Mitch was top three and died last year, and he didn't even have Kalhamathan.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: So, I heard that on other podcasts this morning that they anticipate the trend will be the rapids who lead the league and die in this year.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, at first of all, I think that's probably true.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Dime is largely a function of game script when you go from average games amount of time to extraordinary amount of game, dime, and that's why the 2019 and 2000 Ravens were the two heaviest Dime teams in their franchise history.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: If they have a great year, yeah, they're likely to play a ton of dime.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise, you know, the kind of the baseline for it is about 25% as the Ravens play defense.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: So if they're replacing Simpson with by moving Kyle Hamilton to that spot, moving Carl, you know, Marlon Humphrey, or even Kean Martin, or rivers, maybe get some steps into that slot space, you know, then they're going to see, you know, good amount of time.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: The really extraordinary thing where the Ravens are
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we are going to see very, very little base defense this later.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think the reasons if positive game scripts should not have to run a lot of it.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, three of the PUP guys we need to talk about.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to start some?
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, these are Isaac's sort of the invisible man, what is he played or stood up for a regular season game yet, Ken?
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a fixup.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's four days and he's 32, 32 defensive stabs, I think, over four years.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: It must have been his first year, right?
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: Because last year, he missed the whole season, he was injured in preseason, and he's still suffering from the same injury.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: So this surgery did not apparently go very well.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think it leaves room for a fit outside of the linebacker to be added from outside the organization.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: At this point, if you're battling it, but elbow injury for an entire year, your long-term outlook is not very good.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would agree and Ethan Berkson on draft and free agent if the Ravens were to go inside the organization, he would probably be the guy as of right now came in rocker also is a guy who could play a little Sam he'd be a possibility as well.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, they either one of those if he would really be possible and why think about a rocker might make more sense as a guy who's as a bitter ability to drop the cover.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, obviously, it's still possible to go outside of the organization, get a clown, I understood, had a visit with the Browns.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: I had the early side of contract yet.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: He probably said, well, I'll be back in a month to sign the contract.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, exactly right.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: My timing is going to.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not playing any of the special teams either, but anyway, yeah, and Kyle Vannoy was still the possibility because the Ravens may need that that same lineback or really value it under a a midter scheme where you rush for a lot, but you're rushing a different for, you know, based on who you drop off the line of screen.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so there's good.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: But luckily, apparently he saw a tweet from Jeff that he looked very close to coming off pop.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: He saw the funny soul, I guess, on the third field.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to see him back on the field.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he played well last pre-season and I think he could be, you know, close to the top of the competition for that third or fourth outside corner spot.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think so too.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's really probably the fifth corner on the team, but he's combined size, speed, length, and youth.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: Those are really the things you want in an outside corner.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's got all of them.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: The other guys got all of them as Mark East Robinson.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: And they've got one of those two guys.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, certainly, I think one of those two guys will make the team.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: How about I say it that way?
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: Cone actually was suited up during, during many camps.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: So it's the PUP is preventing him from suiting up now.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I would expect he's close to coming back, but then we don't know how bad that knee injury is and how long the raven's are gonna wanna hold him back.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy who needs to get that preseason life fire.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: Very important to him.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: for short.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then Cory Bullock, unfortunately, the surgery that was previously unreported was apparently at the end of the pandemic, or appendicitis, tough time for him.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it seemed like he really had an opportunity to maybe earn the starting senate job.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: Now, post sick is probably in line to be the starter.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: And Bullock, if he doesn't get back on the feel pretty soon, might be in jeopardy of not making the roster.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's absolutely true.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not even sure there'd be a lot of demand for his services around the league coming off a pentacitis like this.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: He might go to the practice squad and themes might be kind of slow to pull the trigger on bringing him in.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens would have a chance to get a look at him again, make sure he's off the full health.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: And when he is, they could
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: They could bring up to the 53 at that time assuming they're willing to cut someone, but they, you know, it's a, it's a, it's a really tough situation.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think Gwen's chance to make the team is also going down significantly.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Dawkins team Dawkins chance to me is not there.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, there's a long way to go, but probably nine, maybe ten and most, so a competition there.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right, and they were even said done a lot of the past to use these PUP designations to create a midseason replacement situation.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think they would do that with ballacone because I think they really need just to sort through and see what they have there.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: But if the if he was a second year player who they really believed in, but they didn't have, you know, they weren't going to play them regularly anyway.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's the kind of guy that they might.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: wait and then trigger a midseason replacement with invite by holding a few appeal a little longer.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, I don't think it's the right thing to do in this case in this case.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think we need to actually see what we need to do.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's better for a lot of times I'll have an experience corner that's coming off and you already know this is way around, you know, the playbook and everything.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens, I'll follow every single team, this close to the Ravens, obviously, but I have a hard time believing any team is better at juggling DUP and RDTR and handshake deals, and I mean, the Ravens are just the masters of that team.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: they certainly are.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the other teams that's been good with topics and good in the draft certainly is the Green Bay Packers.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: They have 11 players on PUP currently.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was shocked to see that because the PUP list were in some cases were reported kind of late in the Ravens relating the entire NFL was six for a while and now they dropped a third.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: So Chicago has six and Green Bay has 11.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, Green Bay has the player they traded all those assets for MPP, right?
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: Parsons, he's probably the most important player on their team.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I've seen what's interesting to visit this year, I think it could be not quite me expectations, I think, of some, I heard an argument for that, I'm a national pockets today, and I think it can kind of make some sense.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a great Minnesota team.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see about Detroit how good they are.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, definitely there's there's some weakness in that division might be, let me be good year to be playing the AFC North.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know who does that this year among the AFC divisions, but that can create a, or weakness there.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's move on to talk about the acquisition of another lineman, a hockey identity and he's a bit of guys been around the league for six years now, three of them with the Bengals played a total of 1500 and five offensive snaps in six seasons of the 275 on special teams.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: And his big run was in, played 777 snaps for the 2021 Bengals as he started the last 13
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: as they went all the way to the superbook.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: So we started in week nine all the way through the end of the superbook.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: Now, as PFF scoring is less than impressive from that era.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, less than less than impressive, if it is 53rd out of 56 in passwalking that year, 36.1 and 53rd out of 56 in run blocking at 46.3 and those are guys who play at least have snaps.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know I'm going to get into that he might be a little bit biased against so the fact that you play four playoff games and that meant that he's going to be playing some better competition, which would be true, but identity is a guy who very simply said no NFL success in six seasons and so we kind of have to go through the reasons why the Ravens might make such
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a little bit puzzling I suppose.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're already pretty deep on the interior with Jones, potentially, and where he is, and Bear and Steam, and there's one more guard-up, I'm skipping me at the moment, but, uh,
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: Question of what question, what there must like something about it.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure what it is.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're also talking about this is the 90th spot on the roster.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: I believe they released the second point or to make this acquisition.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: So it could just be a complete depth move and they're like, one thing about him, letford might see one thing likes and give him a show.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: Right, I think so I came up with four reasons why the Ravens might have done it.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: And the Ravens are not a stupid organization, so the 53rd at a 56th.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: Let's frame this up for Ravens fans in a way they can understand very thoroughly.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: Daniel Falele was considerably higher both in terms of rank and score.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, Andrew Voorhees was higher in terms of rank and score both of the skies were in the 20th percentile cards.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: And a, you know, a denigy when he played five years ago,
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: was a, you know, a 7th percentile garden.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: So this is not an exciting situation that Ravens have.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: He also will be a free agent at the end of the year.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not some sort of multi-year opportunity to develop a player or anything like that.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: And where he still has that, where he says two years of team control remaining.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: So but there are four things.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: The first is they need to get through training camp and they need to get through these preseason games.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: And identity is a relatively
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: The cost, if he would happen to the IR, I think it's 1.1 million and there's a lot of, there's more expensive players that you could put out there and he also helps to provide you with a veteran who could play decent second half football so you can get a better read on your other players out there.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: That makes sense.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: Veteran's helped, you know, they help the younger players.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: They've been on the run a legal wallet.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: It is a pretty young group overall.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: They're not outstanding standly in poaching and, I guess, pinter.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: But otherwise, it's not a whole lot of guys that are past beyond the rookie contract.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it is kind of cheap, and that's one of the reasons the offense has not been.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's a cheaper option than Android, but where he's always makes 3.7, he makes 1.1, I guess this may be provides you with an option if you don't want to keep Voorhees and you want to try and find value.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: He has guard tackle flexibility.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: That might be the most important one of the two.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: So if you lose a tackle,
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: particularly during camp or if Emory Jones suddenly had a problem, I believe at that it's you would be the guy.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: He could fill in it right guarding filling it right tackle and it could be the sixth offensive lineman if you needed to be kind of a
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: a vertical build, good length, 33.5 inch arms roughly, and he's a guy who's not afraid to get out over his feet.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: John Simpson is kind of the most comparable player probably on the Ravens right now.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: So a guy that a denigy could do some of those same things to be physical and lead for talking about liking Stimpson's style so it would be surprised me if that was part of the calculus.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that probably makes sense.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Simpson, that there's similar players.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that led for my prefer that for his scheme.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's what he prefers.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the other player that they released was Jared Penning, who I know you were not very impressed with that all last year.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: So even if he's just an upgraded or penning when the practice was, that's a worthwhile move to me.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and he can be a legitimate top of practice squad player.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: So you're talking about signing a guy who you're going to be, is your number 11 line, or maybe even your number 10 line, if you carry nine, he's on the practice squad.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's 29 years old.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's some huge poaching risk for him.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: So it might be as rosters a trick, there might be a name that people remember, and at least play some, and they've looked at them, and they think they could do something.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy who potentially could be around and help the Ravens if something were happened.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely not a guy I would say has a 0% chance to play snaps this year for the Ravens.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: It could happen, and if it does, it's probably a very bad thing.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: It means the young guys didn't develop, but you probably have some injuries as well, not quite a lot.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: talking about Chris Moore a little bit though the ravens resigned him after five years in the desert of Houston, Tennessee, Arizona and Washington.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: He is now 33 years old.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: That kind of surprised me.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: We are all getting a little older in this world.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Sure, minute by minute.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, originally around four pick of the Ravens in the 2016 draft.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it was that long ago.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: They took him in that fourth round that had, I think four or five picks they made in that round.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: I might have had four picks.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: Willie Henry, and I think Teva and Young was in that round.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: And there was somebody else included too.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: I've tried to remember.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, what was really cool,
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: He did have a couple of nice grabs in his very first day of practice in the first day of training camp.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: So all the sudden, number 17, catch the ball in it.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: Who's number 17?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: Tenden Doss, I remember when he was at, you guys, look at my sheet, it's Chris, yeah, Chris Moore.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: I saw Chris Moore.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, he was a fan favorite for a while there when he was, and he was a very good special teamer.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: And he made some plays on offense, and he wasn't a world leader, but he could contribute, you know, five to ten, you know, quality.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: catches per season, something like that.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is a signifies that mentor may be willing to carry a special team.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we're going to call Chris more special teams only, but special team is primarily and we didn't really know that before.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, but maybe that's just a camp body, maybe he's just a practice for a guy.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's also an indication that they
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: If they're going to play more 11 personnel, because I think we talked about last week, where you're going to allocate that fullbacks spot that's been opened up with the departure record, are you going to keep the fourth run-and-back, the 10th offensive linemen, or the other possibilities is 7th or 7th or 7th or 7th.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: I guess the other possible would be a fifth tight end, if Lucas Scott prefers well, but anyway, the other thing is it's that, could go ahead I'm sorry, I guess.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it could be rushing on Lee, too, because he's kind of on the bubble right now.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't mention forth running back as one of the possibilities.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I know neither of us is probably that excited about the need to keep rushing on Lee, but I also think Chris Moore, no one is coming knocking to poach Chris Moore for us.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so he's a guy who probably starts the year at minimum on the practice squad and you get three elevations, and then you decide if you wanna bring him up or you wanna just leave him there
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: And, and wait to bring him up, but you think about the last few years, the Ravens had Anthony Miller and Keith Kirkwood, some guys who had some significant NFL experience on the practice squad as veteran receivers and Chris Moore, you know, he can, he can, he can provide you with some value if you need him for a game.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as a special teamer to call him up for special teams, I make sense.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we're both pretty confident in the top six that we're seeing a position.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: Flowers, Bateman, Walker, Sarat.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Lane Wester.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: But if one of them took a knock and maybe he was going to miss time and maybe they're not too so confident in the guys behind them.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe more gives you some depth there in case of a show term injury.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're very possible.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: And they maybe look at it more and thinking, here's the guy, we can get something with that as a run blocker.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: That is, I think something that Ravens liked about a year ago, and he might be a guy who they want for that.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: So there could be a variety of reasons why he would come up.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just, you know, he's coming home.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of a feel good story, but I think he probably will not make it.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: What are we eating lately?
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, with Colleys and...
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: Macphee and Bines and it's their Ravens treat the pliers well and they want to come back.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: So that's good thing.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's go through to some mailbag questions.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: It got some great stuff and I appreciate the mailbags once again, use film study mailbag at gmail.com.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the address if you don't want your question lost, because Marine will look at it there.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: She'll make sure it gets into the folder of questions I have, which I pull from right now.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: And Brian Sparrow says, how much of Marlins for past defense last year was due to his broken thumb, impairing his ability, jammer severs, and otherwise, but he physical.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's possible.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: Broken thumb obviously is your thumb's what their finger did need the most on your hand right to do something like a jam.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: I also think I'll go back to what Rod Watson said.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was shortly after the season ended that Zach or and I forget the name of the DB's coastal last season had in playing inside hip technique as opposed to outside shoulder.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Apparently Woodson said the inside hip is a sort of an antiquated technique.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: I expect Mentor to have the corners playing outside shoulder.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the exact nuance of it, but if you think about boiling a little bit of a true technique, and that's what he was beaten a lot of times was, you know, to the outside shoulder, where he was right there in phase, but it wasn't quite in the right position and it could play.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see what happens this offseason, I mean this season
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting, we'll more than bounce back or not, we'll have to see.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm expecting some bounce back from him.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's not all pro one anymore, I don't believe, and I don't believe he's the worst corner back of the league.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: So that's expecting some bounce back is a pretty safe assumption, I think, in terms of what you get.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing is, whenever
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: somebody wants to have an explanation for Marlon that is not devastating, which would be that you know, it's not the matter.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: That is just lost to step.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's not the player who was, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to move to safety.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: All those things are non-transient problems of an aging player that you can't really fix.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: So, it's natural for us as fans to seek for what's a transient problem that is not going to be any route anymore.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, it's going to be better and you go to Zach Or, you go to the phone, you go to the technique, you go to a lot of things and try and figure it out.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, this may be an Occam's razor situation where yes, some of it was that, but some of it was also a decline in speed and other things that unfortunately he may still carry with him.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Spar had another comedy says a thought about Lamar when mobile cubies age and had their scrambling abilities slowly go down.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: They can adjust over time.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, with the injuries Lamar failed to adjust, leading to an incredibly high-sacred.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that will continue.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: Even if his mobility fails to completely recover, unlike me in my opinion, he will lean.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Learn what he can and can't do is a scramble.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: His good relationship with Declan as opposed to Todd should help in that regard.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: Great comment.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: Very well thought out and I think it's probably a good hypothesis there.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, I think Lamar showed beginning into the season.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: There's pretty much the same quarterback he was for the last couple of years at least a very mobile quarterback who makes plays happen as extremely dangerous.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: And the time in between was just a walk through the desert form, very difficult, miss some time and otherwise, I think he will be back, and I think that we're already seeing an unbelievable Lamar through two days.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, his, his touch on the ball has been fantastic, and, uh, really looking great.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it seems to have,
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: great report with Declan Doyle so far.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: I heard his interview on the lounge.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: The seat of these was the guy, you know.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: And Doyle seems that the whiskey he's going to give Lamar the answers to the quiz or the test that Defensive posing.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: Also heard it was interesting that Lamar and Minter are going to sit down and catch and watch film.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: And Lamar is going to see it from a defensive perspective.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: So that's also from the year two, and I think it was Cal Hamilton at the podium yesterday.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: You said he thinks Lamar is faster this year than he was last year.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm very bullish on Lamar.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'll leave it there.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the point you mentioned came up in the questions yesterday at the podium, absolutely freaking fascinating.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: The notion that, mentor, apparently, I think those mentors idea originally as I call it, Lamar kind of jokingly said, that was a pretty good idea of mine, right?
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think mentor had offered up that he wanted to sit down and see how defenses look at guarding him.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: and then help him find additional keys, for example, that he can work off of.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm paraphrasing something there, but that's it's very exciting to have something like that happen.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, there's no reason that can't happen with a great defensive coordinator who's not that coach.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: But it's that more much more likely to happen if he is that coach, because he can mandate.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and build in the relationship with, you know, it seems like the younger, it's a younger coach who's that than it was.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: And the players are really really
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: We got a question here from Jordan Fitchett.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan appreciate you.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: Not a social media guy appreciates the email and hope you guys will use it to film study meal bag at gmail.com.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan says is the linebacker position getting swept under the rug when in the conversation of possible additions.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think it's too much faith in Simpson's leap, but also wouldn't want to see Teddy rushed back.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: I know they don't have to use the second back or too much with Hamilton packages, but is it worth adding for the times they do.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I would say now, I think, I mean, they can add what are the UDFAs, maybe, in presses, but these have Higgins who, I think, showed some good things last year, and I don't expect to, I'm going to, it could use a platform with Simpson and Higgins potentially, until you count on his back.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I, like I touched on at the top, I think it's going to be hopefully, with the offense as explosive as we hope it is, a good bit of time this year, a good bit of time.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you probably have heard that Bobby Wagner is available, and I'm sure you'd be in favor of going and picking him up, just a couple of draft picks, right?
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, oh, sure.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't keep a straight face through that.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: I know how you feel about paying inside linebackers.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm okay paying one.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not okay paying two.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: And so paying another is out of the question.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: But if they had a,
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: you know another veteran that they liked who you know could contribute in multiple ways and uh and was a guy who could I think it's still very unlikely that he'd be good as good as Simpsons you know as that in that we side spot.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: I agree and just a quick tangent apparently uh the big nose tackle on Tampa whose name's escaping me.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: Vita Vita Vita.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: Vita Vita wants to be traded and I see a little bit of fodder on Twitter that oh there even should be a bit of it.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens are stacked with these kinds of line and this whole notion of just get good players.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think the game requires more strategy than that.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: You need to add players where you need them.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: You don't just accumulate players.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: You try to build the best team so because you've got to save somewhere, right?
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to save somewhere.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to decide where you're not going to spend and that is not a requirement to start a Twitter conversation on any topic.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: Is that you need
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: Got some questions from Andrew Gaines of Sanders being on the show a couple of times before really appreciate you.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Andrew, he says, number one, the Texans and Seahawks were among the few teams that were interested in Terry and Arnold.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's no surprise as both of them have some of the best defenses in football.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: Does it shock you?
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens did not reach out a couple of things I consider.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_00]: One is to the Ravens trust the future of the quarterback room in 2027.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think the answer is probably no one.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: Humphrey are free agents at the end of the year.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you know, it's going to, they're going to be some distance to the corner room early, early around most likely next year.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: Do the raven's like the 2,027 cornerback draft class.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: I have no idea.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't looked at it myself.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: They know who's out there yet.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: And the season has even started and my review of the tape usually doesn't start until the season's over.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: I watch a little bit of college football, but most of my college football watching comes during the draft prep period.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: And so I really know nothing about the 2,027 class.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: But apparently Arnold is potentially going to go to federal prison, right?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Did you hear that story again?
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: I did not, but I wouldn't expect the Ravens have any interest with this cloud hanging over his head.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think I guess the thing was he directed a couple of people to somebody rugby to hell out of a guy.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think somebody robbed them and then they, and I'm not being on the gossip but I heard this and then so then he's him, his, I guess, buddy's posse, is posse went to rob them back, but they were all, they rob back the wrong people or something like that.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, with the cloud hanging over, I don't think the rate is be interested.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with that point.
- 32:25[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a it would seem like a bad idea.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: But the question is end about turning an Arnold directly.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: And my god, thank God, they got Nate Wiggins and I don't know.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: Man, that's one of the biggest moves.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's literally the difference between Jonathan Ogden and Lawrence Phil.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_00]: It could be it could be that big.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: Although Wiggins probably won't be as good as
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: All right, number three, Arnold, Wiggins and Tampa are all the same draft class and Arnold is still eligible for his fifth year option.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_00]: It was a result of being a first round pick.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, okay, and the Raven organization not wanting another headline or off the field, I'd say it with a possible pending Arnold suspension.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I think, you know, he answered his own question with with those things.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: So that's just a point he's making.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm not sure.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think I mentioned this in a previous show.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: Cornerback two might be positioned where they can find any economy with mentors coaching because he did had a great defense with a charge last year with not very much investment in the corner.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see, I don't think they're gonna take it off the board, but it's a possibility that they say, well, you can't spend everywhere and we're not gonna wait till the second or third round to get it or we're gonna get an allusier type and not really go for a top of the market guy.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, could be that could be the go of the veteran route where they had some success identifying.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: And it could be that next year, Mickins is a big part of their draft discussions, and they should have an advantage drafting that decision.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think mentor also for that matter.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: You got a second question for Andrews that this is our last of the day.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's not too much to be at a little bit one.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: So, love the Rokuan Smith encounterage action show with Femi.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: I love the positivity on Rokuan and what he's brought to the ravens at this point.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think CJ Mosley at Rokuan Smith has been more impactful as a raven?
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: Femi was a linebacker.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: So, thanks a little bias towards linebackers.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's so hard to quantify, right?
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: Cause we're going to get so much credit for the third defensive turn around and what was that 2020, right?
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: It was a 2010.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, but a lot of people don't also realize McDonald's got his feet underneath of him after the first half and Hamilton was moved to nickel and one of the boundary corners between.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the boundary corners came back from injury of mid-season.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: They could probably see mostly, I guess, but I wasn't the biggest mostly fan either.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, maybe I'm just spoiled by growing up watching my lowest, but sometimes the tackling machines are a product of the players around them holding a lot of ways.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: And the tackle, the raw tackle numbers are that impressive to me.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: The stops certainly are tackles for loss or I think mostly it was a better blitzer than Rokuan, I will say that.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I think it's very clear that Rhoquano is the better player than CJ Mosley and it shows up in all the all-pro awards he is won.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: And frankly, the defense reached greater heights with Mosley.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about 22 and now you're mitigating, you know, I don't think it was this or maybe it was something else, but 23, they led the league and everything.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: And they're the first defense ever to do it.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, it was McDonald's, you know, year, but that was of
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: That was Roku on right in the middle of that thing, and it was a very well-oiled machine.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: I can't, you know, CJ Mosley, frankly, you know, they missed the playoffs three years of the five that he was there.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: They made it in his rookie year, and then they made it.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's finally, we had the interception to put it away.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the Vatetti team defense was one of the really best special.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: That was more of just because Flacco was declining, and they didn't have enough investment that receiver, I think, was what that really was a downfall that three-year downturn.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, and then in that interception to music it's a lot of credit for the ball.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: I watch that replay a hundred times I think that bulls fall and can plead you the way but anyway.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well Yeah, you don't have to mitigate the impact every play that you like back up.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, all right We will go to press a long button.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: We will not go to the film study mail bag on Twitter and This comment comes from Sims Rob the LJ of MB3
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: follow up.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: This is a question that you tagged in.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: Me and you are someone of an island of wanting James in during pastoral stounds.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: If Beaks is not in to start on pop, do you think EDC meant their weaver prioritizes a co-a as ideal five for rundowns, so James can pastoral sport as the Beaks replacement, as the Beaks replacement.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think that, you know, the news tackle that will play a lot of the early down saps is John Jenkins.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I do, I think, you know, if you're looking at who would be the three tech in that situation, I guess it could be Travis Jones some, and they probably are going to want to limit his staff to try and get him on the field for past or situations.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: It could be mad at BK some, but I think they're going to really reduce his snaps.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: So now you're down to Ration Benny, probably makes the most sense for that position.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: He has a great track record of run defensive Michigan, including at 11.4 to 11 career stops him as tackle ratio.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: So it'd be hard to pass up on that.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's why he's kind of sitting in the in pole position to take that last spot on the DL.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a lot of options.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, let's not forget Colleys and heartfelt, you know, to his research family situation that occurred, but you have a place and you got some guys at the edge, kicking side on past down, and then there's a lot of options for past trust now, it's really exciting proposition.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, we went on without mentioning, you know, the congratulations for Femi to, because we just started his first day on the afternoon show yesterday.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's a huge promotion for him by the way.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: He went from a Saturday show to an afternoon spot and a great job for him.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great guy, very fun to work with on the podcast when I've been able to get him on, and he's been on me three, four times by now.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: But outstanding performer, and he's extremely optimistic.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm seeing the volume of his work is very high, and it's mostly in terms of qualitative statements.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: But occasionally he'll put a stake in the ground about what he wants to see from a player.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: So he's got Derek Henry at 1700 yards this year.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: He says he expects to see that.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Voting or hoping for a dare can return down in any way, but I certainly would take the under on that number Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I've covered with him on social media a little bit here and there And oh, I like he's a definitely good day, and he's a good player for a team to and his brother was He was out there.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good to see him with the media.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_01]: I like that better than there's like the guy that left that they let go of in the afternoon show.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: What a what a clown.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: But, uh, locking for you talking about I think.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, who just made things up.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: Future chapter dinner clicks and was always outraged at everything all the time.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad they moved on from him.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: But, uh, okay.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then we had one more question or I did not question more of a statement, but I guess to be discussed from Twitter.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: Jesse Menter said a few weeks ago that everyone would be healthy at the start of training camp can't tell whether this is a strategic push or whether some guys have improved slower than expected.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you what, you know, we learn, you get one data point at a time in terms of injuries.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: So that was a data point.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: And now not everybody's back, obviously, it's still six guys on the FPV.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they said, wait a minute, you told us everybody would be back.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: And the one guy that you were back peddling on was Matt Epique, and he's actually back, but the other five or not, you know, there is a little bit of,
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: uh... skepticism that will generate going forward and now you know talk about these guys being back at the end of the first week of all is i would just for she had done that you know i would be i'm more comfortable with a coach who basically makes no comments about injury to a look you'll have to wait i'm not providing a time table and it's just going to happen what happened uh... and it are only comment is no comment is the way to be this
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: I would prefer that as well.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't, you know, horrible, I think you kind of use that as a way to put pressure on the players to get back on your field, which I think is the heart of what this question is.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't necessarily see that from interest.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's first year's at Coach and maybe he had good reports on everybody and who knows about the time we recorded next week, maybe everybody is back.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, well, time will tell.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: If I hope he doesn't use that as like the way horrible, I don't think that was not really good for him.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't think it's a good way to connect with the players either.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: And Mitch seems to be more about those connections and the youth bridge that they're building with the coaches and whatnot.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: All that is great stuff.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think we don't want to imparrel that with the silliness where the players feel pressured to come back sooner than they otherwise would think they should.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: All right, great stuff.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: Foss always a pleasure doing this show with you.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to tell folks?
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: We got to be a little bit brief for this time, about you, dude.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: I purchased a butcher shop in Essex about a month ago and rebranded it as heritage meat market.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: We have really good beef, poultry, seafood, and...

- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: You should definitely come by and I got choice grade black angus beef and some really good sausages that we make in house etc.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: I could tell you from being eating at Voss's previous restaurant, which is, I guess, you still own it's a Yamada out there is a really great place to eat and go and a lot of space, which is unusual a little bit for Italian restaurants and particularly if you're more down in a downtown area, so a nice place to go have a party or something.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: Other folks out there, please use hashtag film study mailbag or film study mailbag at gmail.com preferably for your questions.

- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: Prof. Ecos, this is Ken McEuse, who's seeing you by and we'll talk to you next week on Friday morning GM.
