Latest / Michelle Explains Anime, Poorly / Banana Fish Ep. 21- The Undefeated
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your disaster a person, Michelle. I guess so,
- 0:08Speaker 1: I guess you were listening to this after the New Year.
- 0:13Speaker 1: This comes out on the second, so happy fucking twenty
- 0:17Speaker 1: twenty five. Yay. I am recording this on New Year's Eve,
- 0:23Speaker 1: so it's not then yet, but I wish it was.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I guess now I'm going to try to do my
- 0:32Speaker 1: best here. Last week, you know, I took off well.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I had really hoped that I could get kind of
- 0:38Speaker 1: a jump on things, so I wasn't recording these last
- 0:41Speaker 1: minute anymore and just take my time with these next
- 0:45Speaker 1: couple of episodes, that kind of thing. But in reality,
- 0:49Speaker 1: what really happened is I got really bad food poisoning
- 0:53Speaker 1: and I just haven't been okay since. Yay. I lost weight,
- 0:57Speaker 1: which is awesome because I'm already underweight and my esophagus
- 1:03Speaker 1: still hurts, so like, I wouldn't have even been able
- 1:06Speaker 1: to put out a new episode anyway if I had
- 1:09Speaker 1: wanted to. So I'm just kind of trying to get
- 1:13Speaker 1: back to my stupid fucking life, which shit is. But
- 1:18Speaker 1: you know, who the fuck cares about my food poisoning
- 1:24Speaker 1: except for me? No one. You probably don't even want
- 1:27Speaker 1: to hear about it because it's so upsetting, so I
- 1:29Speaker 1: won't talk about it anymore, and we're just gonna jump
- 1:32Speaker 1: right into episode twenty one of Banana Fish, which I
- 1:38Speaker 1: actually thought I didn't have a lot to say about
- 1:41Speaker 1: when I was going through it, and then I broke
- 1:45Speaker 1: down and cried about it in the shower this morning,
- 1:48Speaker 1: so maybe I do. So let's just let's get started.
- 1:51Speaker 1: And I really hope I do an okay job, but like,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I'm still like, I wish I could explain how emotionally
- 1:58Speaker 1: like lo I am right now now, so but I
- 2:01Speaker 1: can't because it would take a long time and that
- 2:04Speaker 1: would be horrible for you. So let's just get into it.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So episode twenty one is called The Undefeated. I'm not
- 2:13Speaker 1: even sure who that's referring to, honestly, but it was
- 2:16Speaker 1: named after a short story by Ernest Hemingway that I
- 2:19Speaker 1: think is about like a retired bullfighter. So nothing at
- 2:23Speaker 1: all to do with Banana Fish again, and also just
- 2:28Speaker 1: not one of my favorite episode titles overall because I
- 2:31Speaker 1: still don't understand what it means. But hey, it's not terrible.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So if you remember what happened at the end of
- 2:38Speaker 1: last episode, we had ended the scene in the Museum
- 2:43Speaker 1: of Natural History, which is my favorite museum, and everyone
- 2:47Speaker 1: had kind of gotten away. Ash had been hit in
- 2:49Speaker 1: the arm by a bullet and Blanca had had that
- 2:53Speaker 1: knife thrown at him by Ash, and I guess they
- 2:56Speaker 1: were off to Rat's Hall, which is where they said
- 2:59Speaker 1: they were going at least, so anyway, this episode starts
- 3:03Speaker 1: a bit after that. Obviously. We open on a graffiti
- 3:07Speaker 1: covered like entrance to a building. There's a dude like
- 3:10Speaker 1: sitting huddled like with his knees to his chest in
- 3:12Speaker 1: the doorway. It looks like he's sleeping. He's like a
- 3:16Speaker 1: you know, younger kid, so maybe one of the gang members.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Inside we see a bunch of guys, probably gang members,
- 3:24Speaker 1: sleeping in a graffiti covered living room that looks like
- 3:27Speaker 1: real fucking dirty. Like what I immediately thought of when
- 3:32Speaker 1: seeing this is that apartment that I played in one time,
- 3:35Speaker 1: played music in that was just full of cockroaches. And
- 3:40Speaker 1: I need you to understand when I say full of cockroaches,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I mean they were everywhere. They were just like all
- 3:45Speaker 1: over the walls, and I'm just like standing there going
- 3:47Speaker 1: like cool, I can't touch anything. There's cockroaches on the
- 3:50Speaker 1: walls and the floor, and we're like playing music. It's
- 3:54Speaker 1: in the evening, but it's not the middle of the night.
- 3:56Speaker 1: There's plenty of people in here. Cockroaches should just not
- 3:59Speaker 1: be hanging out out on every surface of this apartment,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and I was like just trying to collect myself and
- 4:05Speaker 1: get through the night. So it reminds me of that,
- 4:07Speaker 1: except in this I don't actually see any cockroaches, but
- 4:10Speaker 1: it was like the same dirt and filth that I remember,
- 4:13Speaker 1: and also that I just generally remember from playing shows
- 4:16Speaker 1: in dirty apartments, so that kind of esthetic. Anyway, we
- 4:23Speaker 1: see one guy sleeping on the couch. Two other guys
- 4:25Speaker 1: are on the floor, and then we cut to Ash,
- 4:27Speaker 1: who is asleep in what looks like might be a bed.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I don't know, because we've got a really close up shot.
- 4:33Speaker 1: He kind of groans and he opens his eyes and
- 4:36Speaker 1: we get kind of a further back shot, so he
- 4:39Speaker 1: is either in a sleeping bag or on like a
- 4:42Speaker 1: cot on the floor, and there's like another cot next
- 4:46Speaker 1: to him that's kind of angled towards his but it's empty.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Which I can tell you right now that people who
- 4:55Speaker 1: are insane have been like, oh my god, if ag
- 4:58Speaker 1: was sleeping over there. They're like really close together, and
- 5:01Speaker 1: Ash's hand is kind of like outstretched towards the other cot.
- 5:04Speaker 1: They were totally holding hands all night. I don't know
- 5:07Speaker 1: if that's true, but I like to believe it is.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But anyway, he's alone in the room and the floor
- 5:14Speaker 1: that the cots are on is just absolutely filthy. I
- 5:18Speaker 1: think it's supposed to be carpet. I can't really tell, though,
- 5:21Speaker 1: And it's like real, real stained up, not somewhere you'd
- 5:24Speaker 1: probably want to sleep, but considering all that's happened, I'm
- 5:29Speaker 1: sure any amount of sleep anywhere was well received. So anyway,
- 5:37Speaker 1: he sits up and he kind of scratches his head
- 5:39Speaker 1: and goes like, hmm, I guess he's looking for AG
- 5:43Speaker 1: and he's like not wearing a shirt, so we see
- 5:45Speaker 1: that his shoulder and kind of around his chest are bandaged,
- 5:49Speaker 1: probably from when he got shot in the last episode.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Then we cut to Age, who is sitting on the
- 5:56Speaker 1: roof looking at a red, rectangular piece of papery thing
- 6:01Speaker 1: in his hand. And it's important for me to mention
- 6:04Speaker 1: that so far in this episode there has been no music.
- 6:07Speaker 1: It's just quiet, which I think is perfect because it
- 6:12Speaker 1: feels like it's supposed to be early morning. The city
- 6:14Speaker 1: hasn't woken up yet. It's just silent. So Ash approaches Ag,
- 6:22Speaker 1: and AG looks over at him and he's like, oh,
- 6:26Speaker 1: you're up already, and Ash says, I mean you are too.
- 6:30Speaker 1: He pulls his shirt that he's now wearing over to
- 6:33Speaker 1: the side to make the bandages clearly visible, and he says,
- 6:37Speaker 1: you did this, didn't you. Ag looks kind of surprised
- 6:40Speaker 1: for a second and then kind of pissed off, and
- 6:42Speaker 1: he's like, you don't remember. Ash kind of backs off
- 6:45Speaker 1: and he's like, of course I do. It hurts, Ag
- 6:48Speaker 1: says whatever. Ash sits down on the roof kind of
- 6:52Speaker 1: next to Ag, but AG's kind of sitting on the
- 6:53Speaker 1: ledge of the roof, and he says, what's that. AG's like,
- 6:58Speaker 1: huh oh, this it's a good luck charm. My sister
- 7:02Speaker 1: gave it to me before I left. But it's a
- 7:04Speaker 1: good luck charm for love that airhead. He's kind of
- 7:07Speaker 1: blushing slightly. Ash says, do you miss Japan? AG's like,
- 7:13Speaker 1: to be honest, yeah, a little bit. Can't imagine why.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Ash doesn't say anything, and there's kind of a long
- 7:20Speaker 1: pause and then AG's like, you know that tall, long
- 7:24Speaker 1: haired man, don't you. It's because of him that you left, right.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Ash is just kind of looking at the sky and
- 7:30Speaker 1: the wind is kind of picking up, but it's still
- 7:32Speaker 1: very quiet, and Ag continues, he didn't seem like a
- 7:36Speaker 1: bad guy. Ash chuckles, and he's like, I don't know
- 7:40Speaker 1: if he'd agree with you. He's a professional assassin. Ag
- 7:43Speaker 1: kind of gasps, and Ash continues, He's the one who
- 7:46Speaker 1: taught me how to kill when I was with Dino.
- 7:48Speaker 1: He was my teacher for two years. AG's like, so
- 7:51Speaker 1: that guy's with you along now. Ash kind of makes
- 7:55Speaker 1: a sound and looks over and we see that Sing
- 7:59Speaker 1: is walking towards the building, kind of far off, and
- 8:02Speaker 1: Ashes like Sing Sing, and that just kind of collapses
- 8:06Speaker 1: and they gasp, and we go to the opening theme.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yay back from the opening. We cut to Singh's point
- 8:14Speaker 1: of view and he groans and he opens his eyes
- 8:17Speaker 1: and Ag, Kane, Alex Bones, and Kang are like leaning
- 8:21Speaker 1: over him, looking like real, real concerned. Age says, are
- 8:25Speaker 1: you okay? Sing groans and he does not look okay,
- 8:30Speaker 1: like he's all scraped up. Remember Lao pushed him into
- 8:34Speaker 1: the sewage, I guess, or water at least when they
- 8:38Speaker 1: were in the sewer system, so that he could escape.
- 8:41Speaker 1: But his hands were fucking tied, so I assume he
- 8:43Speaker 1: didn't have an easy time getting out of there. But
- 8:46Speaker 1: at least he, you know, wasn't captured and killed or something.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Sing kind of suddenly gasps and he half sits up.
- 8:53Speaker 1: He's on this like really gross looking couch by the way,
- 8:55Speaker 1: and he says, what happened to my guys? Where are they?
- 8:59Speaker 1: Alex is like they got taken somewhere else. We were
- 9:02Speaker 1: loaded into different vehicles than them. Sing takes a shaky
- 9:06Speaker 1: breath and says, oh shit. He throws off the blanket
- 9:10Speaker 1: and is maybe like getting on his shoes, but we
- 9:12Speaker 1: can't exactly see what he's doing. And he says, I'm
- 9:14Speaker 1: going back to Chinatown. If I don't, they're gonna be killed.
- 9:17Speaker 1: He stands and he starts to walk towards the door.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Yuiylong is keeping them hostage to lun me out. Ash
- 9:23Speaker 1: blocks his path and says, calm down, Sing, he'll kill
- 9:26Speaker 1: you if you go back now. Sing's like, you say
- 9:30Speaker 1: that because they're not your guys, and you. Ash cuts
- 9:33Speaker 1: him off and says, I said, calm down. I'll help you,
- 9:36Speaker 1: but you need to rest right now. He looks truly concerned.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Sing just kind of stares and he looks so exhausted
- 9:46Speaker 1: and worried, and Ash continues, You've saved me so many times,
- 9:50Speaker 1: and then he looks to Ag look after him. You're
- 9:53Speaker 1: good at it. AG's like, well, I mean yeah, after
- 9:56Speaker 1: dealing with you so much. Ash just kind of puts
- 9:59Speaker 1: his hand on sta shoulder and then walks off. Sing
- 10:02Speaker 1: makes a pretty pained sigh, and then as Ash is
- 10:06Speaker 1: walking away, he reaches out and grabs Ash's shirt and says, Ash,
- 10:11Speaker 1: you have to save them. Save my guys. I'm the
- 10:14Speaker 1: one who dragged them into this. They trusted me. And
- 10:17Speaker 1: Ash is like, I know, don't worry. I guess before
- 10:20Speaker 1: we go in, I just wanted to say it was
- 10:22Speaker 1: really interesting seeing Ash kind of give off a kind
- 10:25Speaker 1: of calm, comforting demeanor here towards Sing, which is not
- 10:28Speaker 1: something at least I don't think it's something that we've
- 10:30Speaker 1: seen him do before with Sing or kind of with
- 10:34Speaker 1: the gang. And I mean, I just wanted to point
- 10:36Speaker 1: that out because I'm gonna talk about things a little
- 10:38Speaker 1: bit later. So there you go. I guess anyway, Now
- 10:43Speaker 1: we cut to this really sweaty looking guy, one of
- 10:45Speaker 1: the Chinese guys, looking down a barrel of a gun,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and we see that Yue Lung is holding it great
- 10:53Speaker 1: and the sweaty guy says, please don't, and Yue Lung
- 10:55Speaker 1: just shoots him dead. Yay, I guess. We get a
- 11:00Speaker 1: wider shot now, and we see that some of the
- 11:02Speaker 1: Chinatown gang, the ones that have been capped Shorter, they're
- 11:05Speaker 1: they're tied. I think they're on their knees and they
- 11:08Speaker 1: look just really horrified. Uelung says, lucky for me, you
- 11:12Speaker 1: are among the hostages. Yue Tai Lao Lao, who is
- 11:15Speaker 1: there obviously looks over. Yueilan continues, You were Shorter Wong's
- 11:20Speaker 1: best friend and right hand man, and now you're sing
- 11:23Speaker 1: Su Ling's most trusted confidant. You deplore ash for letting
- 11:27Speaker 1: Shorter die, so you disapprove of Singh's increasing allegiance towards him.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Lao's like, to hell with that. I hate you even
- 11:34Speaker 1: more doing whatever you want behind your dull brother's back.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Yuelung turns Soablanca, whose arm is in his sling, by
- 11:41Speaker 1: the way, and says Lao is Sing's stepbrother. Blanca kind
- 11:44Speaker 1: of like half gasps, and Uilun continues, Lao's late mother
- 11:47Speaker 1: was Sing's mother's eldest sister. That makes them cousins. But okay,
- 11:52Speaker 1: unlike us, your brothers seem to be close with each other.
- 11:54Speaker 1: He walks over to Lao. Don't you want to save
- 11:57Speaker 1: your younger brother? Lao? Great. We cut to a shot
- 12:02Speaker 1: of the city going by, like through the window of
- 12:05Speaker 1: a car, and Blanca says, what are you planning on
- 12:08Speaker 1: making that young boy do? Uelung is looking out the
- 12:11Speaker 1: window and says, why do you ask? Blanca is like,
- 12:15Speaker 1: Blood's made you suffer more than anything, and now you're
- 12:17Speaker 1: gonna use it to cause suffering to others. Yuelung slams
- 12:21Speaker 1: his fist against the door and says, Blanca, Blanca's like,
- 12:26Speaker 1: forgive me. That was out of line. It really wasn't, Blanca,
- 12:29Speaker 1: It really wasn't. We cut to Ash and Caine in
- 12:34Speaker 1: a dark blue, absolutely filthy kitchen, which just like everywhere
- 12:40Speaker 1: else in this place that they're in. Ash is sitting
- 12:44Speaker 1: at a table and Kane is leaning against the counter
- 12:48Speaker 1: and I wrote, it's really gross, guys. I don't remember
- 12:51Speaker 1: exactly why it was so gross, But I was just like, yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 1: no one has ever cleaned this before. It's terrible. Anyway,
- 12:58Speaker 1: Kin says, we're sticky situation Lee Yu along was it.
- 13:03Speaker 1: He's a devil behind a pretty face, a little bit
- 13:05Speaker 1: like you. Ash smirks, and it's like I should have
- 13:08Speaker 1: killed him. Then we hear some footsteps approach, and Alex
- 13:11Speaker 1: comes around the corner and says, we found out where
- 13:14Speaker 1: they are. Ash and can look at each other. We
- 13:18Speaker 1: cut to a smoke filled room where four Chinese mafia
- 13:21Speaker 1: guys I guess are sitting at a table. There's a
- 13:24Speaker 1: knock on the door and they look up. A dude
- 13:27Speaker 1: like goes over the door and he's like, I'll check.
- 13:30Speaker 1: He looks through like a little kind of not peep
- 13:33Speaker 1: hole but like slidy window, and I guess he sees
- 13:36Speaker 1: something okay on the other side because he unlocks the
- 13:38Speaker 1: door and he just gets knocked over immediately by Ash
- 13:43Speaker 1: and everyone. I guess they had been holding the other
- 13:46Speaker 1: Chinese mafia guy against the door to make it look
- 13:48Speaker 1: like they weren't about to bust in anyway. Ash just
- 13:52Speaker 1: basically shoots everyone immediately and Sing runs past him, and
- 13:56Speaker 1: Alex is like wait. Sing Sing runs over to a
- 13:58Speaker 1: set of doors on the other side of the room.
- 14:00Speaker 1: This looks kind of like a big warehouse or something,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and Ash is like, you idiot, saying opens the door
- 14:05Speaker 1: and he's like guys. Ash lunges at him and knocks
- 14:08Speaker 1: him out of the way right as a dude from
- 14:10Speaker 1: inside starts firing on them. The dude runs out of
- 14:13Speaker 1: bullets pretty quickly, and Kane just fucking shoots him. Yeay.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Kin then gasps as he sees the Chinese gang on
- 14:21Speaker 1: the floor. Lao is beaten with his hands tied behind
- 14:24Speaker 1: his back, and Sing runs over and he's like, Lao,
- 14:28Speaker 1: hang in there, it's me. Ash says, hurry, let's go.
- 14:31Speaker 1: The gang members that have you know come with Ash
- 14:34Speaker 1: start to help the Chinatown guys out, and Ash is
- 14:38Speaker 1: kind of staring off at something for a minute, and
- 14:40Speaker 1: Kane says, what's up. Ash turns back and he's like, no,
- 14:43Speaker 1: it's nothing, and then they finish exiting the building. We
- 14:47Speaker 1: cut to do you know Yuei Lung and some guy
- 14:51Speaker 1: looking at security cameras actually footage of them running out
- 14:55Speaker 1: of the building, so this is probably not good. The
- 14:59Speaker 1: guy who I don't know his name says, I see
- 15:02Speaker 1: you have quite a son. Oh fuck you, Dino. The
- 15:06Speaker 1: guy rubs a scar in his face and continues, it's
- 15:09Speaker 1: hard to believe he's just a teenager. Dino's like, I've
- 15:13Speaker 1: invested quite a bit in him. The guy says, it's
- 15:16Speaker 1: true that your son's not just some kid. How much
- 15:19Speaker 1: are you willing to risk? Dino's like, just keep his
- 15:23Speaker 1: head intact. So how about a Colonel Fox? The guy
- 15:28Speaker 1: whose name is Fox by the way, smiles, and we
- 15:31Speaker 1: finally see him, because before that he'd been very obscured,
- 15:33Speaker 1: which is why I didn't tell you what he looked like.
- 15:35Speaker 1: He is short, gray hair that's kind of slicked back.
- 15:38Speaker 1: He's tall, and he's thin, and he looks like he's
- 15:42Speaker 1: not a nice guy. Like most of the characters in
- 15:45Speaker 1: Banana Fish don't look in my opinion, except for maybe
- 15:49Speaker 1: Ash outwardly evil. He looks like he's probably a bad dude,
- 15:53Speaker 1: though he's also wearing a suit. Anyway, He says, I'll
- 15:57Speaker 1: accept your offer. Great. We get a quick view of
- 16:02Speaker 1: the skyline, and then we see Ash walking down a
- 16:05Speaker 1: hall wearing a green suits and he says, I'm going out. Kine,
- 16:09Speaker 1: who is sitting somewhere, says, what's with the outpfhit you
- 16:12Speaker 1: get a job interview? Ash is like just samarns. He
- 16:16Speaker 1: starts to walk down the stairs of this what seems
- 16:19Speaker 1: to be a large apartment building that's just totally vacant.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Sing runs after him and he's like Ash. Ash stops
- 16:26Speaker 1: and turns back. Sing says thanks for saving them. Ash
- 16:32Speaker 1: is like, how are they doing? Sing says they're tough,
- 16:35Speaker 1: they'll pull through. Ash says, don't tell them about Shorter.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Sing looks down and he's like, yeah, can I ask
- 16:44Speaker 1: you something? Was Shorter all fucked up? Like qua lung is?
- 16:48Speaker 1: Ash turns away and he says I killed him Before that,
- 16:53Speaker 1: he continues to walk away. Hey, we got to Llow
- 16:59Speaker 1: in a bed with a bandage on his face, sleeping,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and we hear saying, say Loo, I can't fight Ash.
- 17:07Speaker 1: We see that he is sitting at Loo's bedside, slumped over,
- 17:11Speaker 1: and he continues, what am I supposed to do? Shorter? Uh?
- 17:16Speaker 1: I wish Shorter was there to advise him. We cut
- 17:20Speaker 1: to an exterior shot of that apartment. Ash's apartment on
- 17:23Speaker 1: fifty ninth Street, and then we see Ash inside the
- 17:26Speaker 1: apartment typing something into a laptop. He then gasps and
- 17:30Speaker 1: raises his gun and turns. We see Max with his
- 17:33Speaker 1: hands up and he's like, easy, now, don't shoot your
- 17:36Speaker 1: old dad. Ash says you. Max puts down his hands
- 17:41Speaker 1: and is like, I knew you'd be back. We cut
- 17:45Speaker 1: to them in the kitchen as Max is pouring a beverage,
- 17:48Speaker 1: which we later find out his coffee. So I'll just
- 17:49Speaker 1: tell you that now, and he says, is ag okay.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Ash is like yeah. Max says good, so that dated
- 17:58Speaker 1: my job didn't go to waste. Then Ashes like, hey, wow,
- 18:04Speaker 1: he was about to apologize. Max, who is now holding
- 18:07Speaker 1: the coffee, says, relax. I wasn't waiting for you just
- 18:09Speaker 1: to gripe. Ash takes the cup of coffee from Max
- 18:13Speaker 1: and says, you were here this whole time. Max is like,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I rented the apartment next door. Actually Newsweek's paying for it.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Ash is like, what, I thought you were fired me too. Ash.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Max says, listen, I don't want you to feel like
- 18:27Speaker 1: you have to, but I could really use your help.
- 18:30Speaker 1: So I guess Max wasn't fired or he had an
- 18:32Speaker 1: idea that got him back in with Newsweek, which is
- 18:35Speaker 1: good because I want him to have a steady job
- 18:36Speaker 1: so we can take care of, you know, child support
- 18:40Speaker 1: and help Michael out or whatever. So yay. Anyway, we
- 18:44Speaker 1: cut to an evening shots it's outside. There's like this
- 18:48Speaker 1: really purple lit bar. It's actually a gay bar. It
- 18:52Speaker 1: says New World Gay Bar on it. Oh. We hear
- 18:56Speaker 1: Ash say the owner is Frank Sanchez. Everyone calls him Frog. Yeay,
- 19:02Speaker 1: a new animal person. Actually, we got two new animal
- 19:05Speaker 1: people today, Fox and Frog. I know we haven't really
- 19:08Speaker 1: talked about it, but there were so many animal characters
- 19:11Speaker 1: in Banana Fish. We have links, we have Lobo, we
- 19:15Speaker 1: had that bull guy that one time. I don't know
- 19:18Speaker 1: why I'm doing this right now, but there's a lot
- 19:20Speaker 1: of them. Anyway, Ash continues. The penthouse right above the
- 19:24Speaker 1: bar is his hideout. We now see that Ash Max
- 19:27Speaker 1: and you know Max's partner from Newsweek, who I thought
- 19:30Speaker 1: his name was Steve, but it's not. So we'll get
- 19:33Speaker 1: that to that in a minute. But they're like sitting
- 19:35Speaker 1: in a restaurant looking out the window at this bar.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Steve kind of says, I guess he's doing pretty well
- 19:42Speaker 1: for himself. Ashes like he was in charge of rounding
- 19:44Speaker 1: up kids. The men who came to buy boys at
- 19:47Speaker 1: Dino's club Cod were all high ranking government officials and
- 19:50Speaker 1: social lights. Everyone who came there secretly had their pictures taken.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Of course, Dino never actually blackmailed his customers. It was
- 19:57Speaker 1: just for insurance. But Frog was different. Max cuts in
- 20:01Speaker 1: he made a side business out of it. Huh. We
- 20:03Speaker 1: cut to inside the bar, where there's lots of dudes
- 20:06Speaker 1: hanging out because it's a gay bar, and it's also
- 20:09Speaker 1: really like purple in there, kind of bluish and purple.
- 20:12Speaker 1: It's a nice looking bar. I think it would be
- 20:14Speaker 1: fine to go there anyway. Ash and Max are standing
- 20:18Speaker 1: near the entrance and Max looks scared and really really tense,
- 20:23Speaker 1: and Ash is like, loosen up, old man. Max is like,
- 20:27Speaker 1: they're all guys, and Ash says, yeah, it's a gay club.
- 20:32Speaker 1: He puts his arm around Max and he's like, here,
- 20:35Speaker 1: put your arm around me, act like we're a couple.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Max is kind of flinching as Ash tries to get
- 20:42Speaker 1: his arm around his waist and Ash says, this was
- 20:46Speaker 1: your idea, so do it. From there, we cuts to
- 20:49Speaker 1: a very highly detailed image of Max with his face
- 20:52Speaker 1: down on the bar holding a drink. In his hand
- 20:55Speaker 1: and Ash is like, stop crying. He only grabs your ass.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I've almost Scott and rape. Just walking down the street.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Max lifts his head and is like, I get how
- 21:05Speaker 1: women feel now. It's a nasty thing, being targeted for sex.
- 21:09Speaker 1: He stands, I gotta take a piss. He kind of
- 21:13Speaker 1: walks off. Ash is just kind of rubbing the rim
- 21:17Speaker 1: of his glass and thinking, and we hear someone walk
- 21:20Speaker 1: over and we can't see their face. This guy obviously
- 21:24Speaker 1: says are you alone? Ash looks up and the guy says,
- 21:29Speaker 1: can I buy you a drink? And we see that
- 21:31Speaker 1: it's Fox. Fuck. Ash is like, I'm sorry, I'm actually
- 21:36Speaker 1: here with someone, and Fox says that's too bad, excuse me.
- 21:41Speaker 1: He starts to walk away. Great. At this point Max
- 21:46Speaker 1: returns and he's like, who is that. Ash kind of
- 21:50Speaker 1: a little bit tense stuff, says, just some guy hitting
- 21:53Speaker 1: on me. Max is like, you little tramp seducing other
- 21:57Speaker 1: guys when you have me. And while he's saying, he's
- 22:00Speaker 1: kind of like nudging Ash with his shoulder and it's
- 22:03Speaker 1: kind of like cute and playful, and it kind of
- 22:06Speaker 1: nice break from the heaviness of the scene. And at
- 22:09Speaker 1: that point, Ash looks up and he says, there he is.
- 22:13Speaker 1: We see a guy with brown hair and a beard
- 22:15Speaker 1: who's kind of overweight walking past. Max says, I see
- 22:19Speaker 1: he really does look like a frog. I mean, I
- 22:22Speaker 1: don't think he does, but sure. We cut to Frog
- 22:25Speaker 1: being pushed through a door and then falling on the
- 22:28Speaker 1: floor against a bed. Ash approaches him with his gun raised.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I still haven't gotten what's do froggy. Frog is panicking obviously,
- 22:37Speaker 1: he says Ash. I thought you were dead. Ash says,
- 22:42Speaker 1: I've risen from hell. Where are the photographs? Frog's like,
- 22:46Speaker 1: don't have him anymore? I got rid of them all.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Ash says, cut the shit. Seems like you got a
- 22:51Speaker 1: good business going here. There's no way you'd give up
- 22:54Speaker 1: such easy money. He starts to walk towards Frog. Now
- 22:58Speaker 1: when he says, you all laughing like hyenas while you
- 23:02Speaker 1: did it. He at this point is holding the gun
- 23:05Speaker 1: to Frog's mouth, and Frog gulps. Ash continues, I can
- 23:10Speaker 1: still hear the camera clicking. We start to hear shutter
- 23:14Speaker 1: clicks in the background, and we flash to a very
- 23:17Speaker 1: terrified and beaten eleven year old Ash with tears in
- 23:20Speaker 1: his eyes, and we hear Ash say click, click click.
- 23:26Speaker 1: We see now distorted faces of men I guess, including
- 23:30Speaker 1: Frog smiling and a really distorted looking camera lens, and
- 23:36Speaker 1: Ash says click. His finger is on the trigger and
- 23:40Speaker 1: it is starting to shake until Max finally says Ash stop.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Ash gasps and the background clicking and everything stops and
- 23:50Speaker 1: everything is silent again. Frog says, Okay, they're yours, Just
- 23:56Speaker 1: don't shoot me. We cut to Frog handing manila envelope
- 24:01Speaker 1: to Max and he says, these are all the ones
- 24:04Speaker 1: I have. It's important to note that Ash is still
- 24:06Speaker 1: pointing the gun at Frog. Frog continues, yours are in
- 24:09Speaker 1: there too. Just great, that's awesome. Max starts to walk off,
- 24:14Speaker 1: and Frog says, wait, please don't tell Papadino. Ash, who
- 24:19Speaker 1: was leaving the room now says, hey, don't worry. Dead
- 24:22Speaker 1: men tell no tales. He closes the door. Frog slams
- 24:26Speaker 1: his fist on the dresser. Shit. He picks up the
- 24:30Speaker 1: phone to call someone, but here's the door open again.
- 24:34Speaker 1: He drops his hand that had been holding up the
- 24:37Speaker 1: phone to his side and he says, who were you?
- 24:42Speaker 1: Fox fuck is standing in the doorway and he's like,
- 24:45Speaker 1: what did you talk about with that? Handsome young man.
- 24:49Speaker 1: It's still night and Ash, Max and Steve are under
- 24:55Speaker 1: like either an overpass or an elevated subway line. I
- 24:59Speaker 1: don't know, oh why they're here. I guess they figured
- 25:02Speaker 1: they would stop and take a look at things before
- 25:04Speaker 1: going anywhere else. And it seemed like as safe as
- 25:07Speaker 1: a place as anywhere. But it's a little bit weird.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Steve is looking at something on a laptop and he says,
- 25:17Speaker 1: this shit makes me sick, that pig. Ash is not
- 25:21Speaker 1: standing near Max and Steve. He's kind of off to
- 25:24Speaker 1: the side, leaning on a like a column, and he says, sorry,
- 25:31Speaker 1: old man. Max looks over and Ash is facing away
- 25:36Speaker 1: from us, so we can't see his expression. He continues,
- 25:39Speaker 1: I was about to shoot him. Max is like, don't
- 25:42Speaker 1: worry about it. I'm sorry for making you go through that.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Steve says, thank you for this, Ash. I'll make sure
- 25:49Speaker 1: the rights of these boys are protected. Oh my god,
- 25:53Speaker 1: so many of them are probably dead. Ash holds out
- 25:57Speaker 1: an envelope towards Max says, just use my pictures. He
- 26:03Speaker 1: is smiling the saddest, most resigned smile. I think a
- 26:09Speaker 1: person could smile. He continues. Dead people can't feel shame
- 26:13Speaker 1: after all. At this, Max takes out a lighter and
- 26:16Speaker 1: he flicks it until it's lit. Ash kind of jumps
- 26:21Speaker 1: as he sees that Max is burning the envelope with
- 26:24Speaker 1: his photos in it, and Max says, I want to
- 26:27Speaker 1: tell you to forget about all of this, but I
- 26:30Speaker 1: guess it really doesn't work that way. He's staring at
- 26:33Speaker 1: the burning folder now continues What I mean is, you
- 26:37Speaker 1: don't have to let this control you anymore. Ash just
- 26:41Speaker 1: kind of watches it is it burns away. So I
- 26:44Speaker 1: think it's important for me to stop here and mention
- 26:46Speaker 1: that this is probably the first time that we have
- 26:50Speaker 1: heard Ash outwardly express shame for the situation, for the
- 26:59Speaker 1: prostitution and all that shit. Like we've heard him talk
- 27:04Speaker 1: about how upset he is with himself for killing people
- 27:08Speaker 1: and stuff, but he has kind of maintained this stoicism,
- 27:13Speaker 1: I guess, and almost upbeat kind of joking behavior, especially
- 27:18Speaker 1: around Max, about all of the shit he has gone through.
- 27:23Speaker 1: And this is I guess the first time he breaks character,
- 27:27Speaker 1: especially around Max. AG. It's kind of like, well, maybe
- 27:30Speaker 1: even though he's been pretty quiet about all this around AG,
- 27:35Speaker 1: but it's like kind of the walls and the compartmentalism
- 27:39Speaker 1: are just kind of starting to break down a little bit,
- 27:41Speaker 1: so he just wanted to point that out. He's clearly hurting,
- 27:47Speaker 1: and we knew that, I mean, with all the nightmares
- 27:50Speaker 1: and everything, but it's a little bit different to hear
- 27:53Speaker 1: him express it. And like I said a couple of
- 27:56Speaker 1: minutes ago, so many of those boys are dead, so
- 28:01Speaker 1: many of them, and I mean, like, how many of
- 28:04Speaker 1: them did ash see? You know overdoser have just terrible
- 28:09Speaker 1: things happen to them. Okay, now then I'm crying just
- 28:14Speaker 1: a little bit. Let's move on to the next scene.
- 28:18Speaker 1: We cut to a dumpster that's overflowing with garbage, and
- 28:24Speaker 1: inside it there is an arm sticking out. We get
- 28:27Speaker 1: a little bit closer and we see that it is
- 28:29Speaker 1: clearly Frog's arm, which is immediately noticeable that it is
- 28:33Speaker 1: Frog's arm because on his hand he has a K
- 28:36Speaker 1: tattooed and then also like a lizard, so it's him,
- 28:41Speaker 1: not that we didn't know that was gonna happen. We
- 28:43Speaker 1: cut to a phone screen with a news article open
- 28:47Speaker 1: on it, and I can read you what's the article said.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Let's see it says, and I quote dismembered arm in
- 28:57Speaker 1: Midtown victim identified by John Davis, and it says a
- 29:03Speaker 1: dismembered arm was discovered on the morning of the third
- 29:06Speaker 1: in the garbage dump located at Eighth Street in Midtown, Manhattan.
- 29:10Speaker 1: The arm was discovered by a local resident while on
- 29:13Speaker 1: a walk in the neighborhood. The arm was thought to
- 29:16Speaker 1: be of a male and bore a very unique tattoo
- 29:18Speaker 1: with a gecko and a letter K. As of this
- 29:22Speaker 1: news report, no more remains have been found. Using fingerprints,
- 29:26Speaker 1: police were able to deduce that the arm belonged to
- 29:29Speaker 1: Frank Zaab forty two, who was previously convicted of having
- 29:34Speaker 1: four sexual relations with miners. Uh was under close scrutiny
- 29:39Speaker 1: by police as a serious offender. He was last seen
- 29:42Speaker 1: at his club, but no trace of blood was found
- 29:45Speaker 1: in his private room. Although the perpetrator hasn't been caught,
- 29:48Speaker 1: the arm had been removed with surgical precision and as such,
- 29:52Speaker 1: the armed police are still working under the assumption that
- 29:57Speaker 1: the perpetrator had medical training or experience in the military. Uh. Oh,
- 30:02Speaker 1: that was fun. Anyway. We see that Ash is sitting
- 30:05Speaker 1: in the gross apartment and he's the one looking at it.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Kane walks over and says, what are you doing out here?
- 30:11Speaker 1: AG was just looking for you. He sits down near
- 30:14Speaker 1: Ash and ashes like, how are the Chinese doing? Kane says,
- 30:18Speaker 1: same as always. Why in the manga the scene was
- 30:22Speaker 1: totally different and AG had fed the Chinese people Kanji
- 30:26Speaker 1: and I missed that scene. But that's fine. Ash says,
- 30:32Speaker 1: don't you think it's strange? Kane's like, huh. Ash continues,
- 30:36Speaker 1: they were locked up in such an obvious place. If
- 30:39Speaker 1: it was a trap to catch Sing, why were there
- 30:42Speaker 1: so few guys there. Kane says, now that you mention it,
- 30:46Speaker 1: Ash continues, if they'd let Sing's guys out on purpose.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Kane's like, you're overthinking this. The guy that Sing trusts
- 30:53Speaker 1: the most, and before he can continue, one of his
- 30:56Speaker 1: gang members runs up and he's like, Boss, they shot
- 30:59Speaker 1: up Killer, which in the anime I had no idea
- 31:03Speaker 1: what that was. It's a place. Cain stands and he's
- 31:06Speaker 1: like what We cut to a guy laying on a cot,
- 31:10Speaker 1: bandaged and holding a side in pain, and one of
- 31:14Speaker 1: the guys is like, hang in there, and the second
- 31:16Speaker 1: guy says boss. Kane leans over the injured guy and
- 31:20Speaker 1: he says, who did this? The Chinese. The injured guy's like, no,
- 31:26Speaker 1: they were white guys in suits, Kane says, goalzans men.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Then we hear another guy say they got Harlem Chicken too,
- 31:33Speaker 1: which is another place. Thanks so much for not telling
- 31:36Speaker 1: me that. Anime Kin is like, damn it, how do
- 31:39Speaker 1: they know where our hideouts are? He turns to singing
- 31:43Speaker 1: some of his gang members and says, you guys better
- 31:45Speaker 1: not have readed us out. Law's like what did you say?
- 31:48Speaker 1: Sing manages to hold him back because he wants to fight,
- 31:51Speaker 1: and he's like low. Ash says, drop it, Kane. Kane
- 31:55Speaker 1: pauses and he's like sorry. He stands and he's like
- 31:58Speaker 1: for could I ever said that? Sing like kind of
- 32:01Speaker 1: relaxes and Ash says, let's go check the place out.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Sing and his gang members walk off, and Ash says,
- 32:10Speaker 1: don't tell anyone what I told you. We can't afford
- 32:13Speaker 1: infighting right now, but keep your eyes on them. Kine's
- 32:16Speaker 1: like all right. We cut to a darkened, deserted street
- 32:22Speaker 1: next to what appears to be a subway overpass, and
- 32:26Speaker 1: Kane says, those bastards. Ash, Kane and some others are
- 32:31Speaker 1: in what appears to be maybe a bar i guess
- 32:33Speaker 1: this is Harlem Chicken and it's been like totally wrecked
- 32:36Speaker 1: and they're just like dead guys all over the floor
- 32:39Speaker 1: and broken glass and shit like that. Ash then bends
- 32:43Speaker 1: down and he picks up a bullet casing and he's
- 32:45Speaker 1: like five point five six millimeter cartridges. They were armed
- 32:49Speaker 1: with assault rifles. This wasn't an impulsive attack. Yeah, these
- 32:54Speaker 1: kind of cartridges are usually in semi auto rifles, by
- 32:58Speaker 1: the way, because I looked it up, but it's pretty
- 33:00Speaker 1: cool that he knew just by looking at the spent
- 33:03Speaker 1: casing what kind it was. I guess. Just then, a
- 33:07Speaker 1: car pulls up and Ash turns and gasps, and they
- 33:11Speaker 1: like have like guns and shit, and they just lean
- 33:13Speaker 1: out of the car and starts shooting. Ash says, get down.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Some of the guys that are with them get shot though,
- 33:18Speaker 1: as they keep firing into this bar. Ash and Kane
- 33:22Speaker 1: are kind of taking cover at the end of the bar,
- 33:24Speaker 1: and Kane says they're back. Ash stands and he starts
- 33:27Speaker 1: to fire back, and he's like, Kane go. Kane runs
- 33:30Speaker 1: off and Ash follows not far behind, and they get
- 33:33Speaker 1: to a stairwell and then we see Kan outside of
- 33:37Speaker 1: one of the windows and he says this way, and
- 33:39Speaker 1: Ash jumps out the window and onto the fire escape,
- 33:42Speaker 1: and as he exits, he turns back to shoot the pursuers. Kin,
- 33:45Speaker 1: who is partially down the fire escape now says, hurry up, Ash.
- 33:49Speaker 1: But then the guy that is running in front of
- 33:52Speaker 1: Kane gets shot and it's clear they're underfire in two directions,
- 33:56Speaker 1: and Kane's like turn back. Ash and Kane can do
- 33:58Speaker 1: nothing now but huddle on the Viru escape and try
- 34:01Speaker 1: not to get shot. Eventually, the shooting stops, and Kine
- 34:06Speaker 1: stands and he's like, why aren't they shooting anymore? Ash
- 34:09Speaker 1: also stands they've disengaged. Kane gasps and he's like, what
- 34:13Speaker 1: do you mean. Ash says, they're playing with us. Kine's like,
- 34:18Speaker 1: by killing so many of our guys, those bastards. We
- 34:22Speaker 1: cut to Ash holding one of the attacker's dead hands
- 34:26Speaker 1: to a phone and like, looks like he's getting a fingerprints,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I guess, and Kane says, what are you doing? Ash says,
- 34:34Speaker 1: getting fingerprints. We cut to Fly holding a phone to
- 34:38Speaker 1: his ear and he whistles and he's like, so it's true,
- 34:41Speaker 1: You've risen from hell. We hear Ash say I need
- 34:45Speaker 1: you to look something up. At this point, Kine's phone buzzes.
- 34:48Speaker 1: He picks it up and says what we hear a
- 34:50Speaker 1: guy say, boss, you need to come back right now. Fuck.
- 34:56Speaker 1: As Ash and Kin start to leave Harlem Chicken, I
- 34:59Speaker 1: guess we get to eat wide angle from slightly above,
- 35:04Speaker 1: and we hear Fox say, I can't wait for you
- 35:07Speaker 1: to strike back. He's watching them through binoculars. He continues,
- 35:11Speaker 1: if you let me catch you too easily, it'll take
- 35:13Speaker 1: the fun out of the hunt. Gross. I guess. Now,
- 35:18Speaker 1: back at this abandoned apartment complex place that they've been
- 35:22Speaker 1: hanging out in, which is probably called Rats Hall, there
- 35:25Speaker 1: is a guy probably dead, propped up in a sitting
- 35:28Speaker 1: position against a brick wall outside. He's covered in blood
- 35:32Speaker 1: and cuts. I guess Kane and Ash are standing over him,
- 35:36Speaker 1: and Kane says, shit, those bastards. Are they threatening us? Or?
- 35:40Speaker 1: And Ash says they're having fun. Kine's like, assholes, we
- 35:45Speaker 1: need to move if we go back downtown. Ash cuts
- 35:49Speaker 1: him off. No, it's too dangerous to move in such
- 35:51Speaker 1: large numbers right now. We'll have to do it. Amidst
- 35:54Speaker 1: the confusion. When they attack, Ash's phone buzz and he
- 35:57Speaker 1: looks at it. He says, I knew it. Caine's like what,
- 36:02Speaker 1: Ash continues, I found out who they are. They're soldiers.
- 36:06Speaker 1: We see Ash's phone screen and has details about the
- 36:08Speaker 1: guy who he's pulled the fingerprints from, and I think
- 36:11Speaker 1: I can find them. Let's look. Okay, So it says
- 36:15Speaker 1: his name is William Joseph Green. Date of birth April
- 36:20Speaker 1: twenty four to nineteen eighty three, aged thirty five years
- 36:23Speaker 1: Huh yeah, so twenty eighteen, okay? Gender, male, nationality American
- 36:31Speaker 1: laterality right, what height five ten, weight one hundred and
- 36:34Speaker 1: eighty four pounds, vision twenty out of twenty five or something.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Le type B minus, eye color blue, hair color black.
- 36:41Speaker 1: It is not black, I can see it. It is brown. Whatever.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Relatives mother, unknown, father, unknown, spouse, adeleene course Wilson or something.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Marital status, married children too. Languages French and English. We
- 36:56Speaker 1: see that he's previously stationed in Corsica as a member
- 36:59Speaker 1: of the far legion. Fuck and we will go through
- 37:03Speaker 1: the rest of its as we go. Anyway, Kin, who's
- 37:06Speaker 1: also looking, says former Foreign Airborne legion stationed in Corsica.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Person earies Huh. Ash says, Dino hired them, no doubt
- 37:16Speaker 1: about it. He pauses for a second. Died in two
- 37:19Speaker 1: thousand and four where he did a terrorist base, but
- 37:24Speaker 1: the aircraft was shot down when pulling out. None of
- 37:27Speaker 1: the troops survived. The commander was Eduardo Fox. He scrolls
- 37:33Speaker 1: down and he sees a headshot of Fox and gasps.
- 37:37Speaker 1: We get a quick shot of him remembering meeting Fox
- 37:39Speaker 1: at the bar, and then he just like runs off
- 37:42Speaker 1: and Kane's like hey, and Ash says I'll be right back.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Ash now running thinks, don't die on me, old man.
- 37:50Speaker 1: We got to Max, who is standing in a hallway
- 37:52Speaker 1: of an apartment building, obviously looking at a paper, and
- 37:57Speaker 1: he's right outside of apartment number eight. He knocks on
- 37:59Speaker 1: the door and says, Robert, it's me. Oh fuck. So
- 38:05Speaker 1: remember when I said that his name wasn't Steve, that
- 38:08Speaker 1: I was wrong? Yeah, for some reason in the anime,
- 38:10Speaker 1: they changed his name to Robert. And I went back
- 38:13Speaker 1: and I checked the manga again because I thought like, well,
- 38:15Speaker 1: maybe I just fucked up. No, I don't know why
- 38:17Speaker 1: they changed his name to Robert, but now Steve is Robert,
- 38:21Speaker 1: so I will call him as such. And I am
- 38:25Speaker 1: sorry for making this confusing anyway. Max is surprised because
- 38:30Speaker 1: he doesn't hear anything back when he calls out and
- 38:34Speaker 1: we see the other side of the door and the
- 38:36Speaker 1: handle starts to turn and the door starts to open.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Max says, hey, you didn't lock, and then immediately he
- 38:43Speaker 1: is shot in the left upper arm. He stumbles backwards
- 38:47Speaker 1: against the wall and then starts to run for it.
- 38:50Speaker 1: A dude in a suit emerges from the apartment and
- 38:52Speaker 1: starts shooting at him, and as Max is running away,
- 38:56Speaker 1: Ash pops out in front of him from around a
- 38:58Speaker 1: corner with a gun and he says get down. Max
- 39:01Speaker 1: ducks just in time for Ask to shoot the guy
- 39:03Speaker 1: in the chest. Thank god. But then another guy comes
- 39:06Speaker 1: out and starts shooting, and he, realizing that now he
- 39:09Speaker 1: is company, tries to run, but Ash gets him too
- 39:13Speaker 1: and it's quiet again. Max runs into the apartments and
- 39:17Speaker 1: he's like, Robert, hang in there. We see that the
- 39:20Speaker 1: apartment is like all fucked up, and Robert has been
- 39:22Speaker 1: shot in the chest and he's like wincing, and he
- 39:25Speaker 1: says they were looking for the data. Don't worry, I
- 39:28Speaker 1: didn't tell him anything. He winces again and Max is
- 39:31Speaker 1: like take it. Easy. Ash just kind of stares, of
- 39:35Speaker 1: course you miss a scene here where the paramedics come
- 39:37Speaker 1: and all that stuff. But we cut to Ash and
- 39:41Speaker 1: Max walking out of the building and Ash says, where's
- 39:44Speaker 1: the data? Max says in a safety deposit box. Ash
- 39:48Speaker 1: is like, you better come stay with us too, or
- 39:49Speaker 1: they're gonna come after you again and get someone to
- 39:52Speaker 1: guard your family. He starts to walk away. Max is like,
- 39:57Speaker 1: is it really that bad this time? Uh? Yes, Ash stops. Yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 1: we're fighting a dead man, just like me. We cut
- 40:06Speaker 1: to a hallway where a woman with a scarf around
- 40:10Speaker 1: her head and sunglasses is knocking on a door. She
- 40:13Speaker 1: hears someone walking up and she turns. We hear Bones
- 40:17Speaker 1: say are you Jessica, Oh Jessica, and Jessica's like huh.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Bones and Kan are in front of her, and Bone says,
- 40:26Speaker 1: we're with Ash links We were waiting for you, And
- 40:29Speaker 1: before he can finish, Jessica hits Bones in the face
- 40:32Speaker 1: with her luggage, and Bones is like, what the fuck.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Then Jessica cocks a gun and aims it at them
- 40:38Speaker 1: and is like, as if I'd listen to that shit,
- 40:40Speaker 1: where's Max? Fuck? Yeah, Jessica. We then hear Ash, offscreen
- 40:45Speaker 1: say your hair's gonna go gray if you don't relax,
- 40:48Speaker 1: Old lady. Jessica turns and sees that Ash is leaning
- 40:50Speaker 1: against the wall behind her. She says, I never wanted
- 40:54Speaker 1: to see you again. We cut two Max, Alex and
- 40:57Speaker 1: Ag at the hideout and they're like sitting and stuff,
- 41:00Speaker 1: and then AG's like Jessica. Max says, I knew you'd come,
- 41:05Speaker 1: you stubborn woman. Jessica, with just the nicest tone, is
- 41:10Speaker 1: like high Agy, and then very sternly says, of course.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Do you think I just calmly let someone guard me
- 41:17Speaker 1: out of the blue? Max is like, what about Michael?
- 41:19Speaker 1: Did you just leave him? Jessica says, he's with my sister.
- 41:23Speaker 1: It's safer than bringing him here. Max says, I told
- 41:25Speaker 1: you it was dangerous. Ash and Ag listening are just
- 41:29Speaker 1: like covering their ears, and Ash says, geez, just shut
- 41:33Speaker 1: up already. I'm never getting married, and AG's like me,
- 41:36Speaker 1: neither same guys. It is later. I suppose it's evening
- 41:42Speaker 1: and Max and Jessica are out on a terrace, I guess,
- 41:47Speaker 1: between two of these vacant buildings, and they're sitting by
- 41:51Speaker 1: like a fire that looks like it's in maybe a
- 41:52Speaker 1: small trash can or something. Jessica says, I can't believe
- 41:58Speaker 1: it a mind control drug. Max is like, I wouldn't
- 42:01Speaker 1: believe it either if I had seen it. Jessica looks
- 42:04Speaker 1: over at something, and Max looks up to and Jessica
- 42:07Speaker 1: puts her head in her hands and says, that kid.
- 42:10Speaker 1: She's looking at Ash, who is having a conversation with
- 42:12Speaker 1: some of the gang members. She continues, he'd be a
- 42:15Speaker 1: cutie if he didn't have such an incorrigible mouth. Yeah,
- 42:20Speaker 1: we got to what I'm assuming is later because lots
- 42:23Speaker 1: of the gang members are just asleep on the floor
- 42:26Speaker 1: and we hear the sound of typing in the background.
- 42:29Speaker 1: We see Ash, who is looking at like a ton
- 42:32Speaker 1: of stuff on a computer, but is a laptop, So
- 42:36Speaker 1: I guess it's okay that the building probably doesn't have electricity,
- 42:39Speaker 1: and he thinks the question is how are they going
- 42:42Speaker 1: to attack? There are quite a few patterns they could use,
- 42:45Speaker 1: but which If I guess wrong, it's the end of us.
- 42:50Speaker 1: He is sweating and staring intently at the computer. Which
- 42:54Speaker 1: which is it? And then out loud he says shit.
- 42:58Speaker 1: We hear agy say Ash Ash looks and sees that
- 43:02Speaker 1: Ag is standing behind him. AG points to like a
- 43:06Speaker 1: weird kind of double thermasy thing and says, want to
- 43:09Speaker 1: drink it's just hot mineral water though. Ash smiles, that
- 43:13Speaker 1: sounds nice. We cut to the water in cups like
- 43:18Speaker 1: on a box, and AG's like, so the enemy is
- 43:21Speaker 1: pretty tough this time. They're both sitting on the floor,
- 43:25Speaker 1: you know, around the box, huddled in blankets. This is
- 43:28Speaker 1: like totally my aesthetic. I just love this episode because
- 43:33Speaker 1: of that. It's so fucking cool. Anyway, Ash says a
- 43:39Speaker 1: former elite French force of mercenaries. AG's like former mercenaries, wow,
- 43:46Speaker 1: Ash says, nothing but crazy serial killers. All this guy
- 43:50Speaker 1: wants to do is kill, and wars are his thing
- 43:52Speaker 1: because you can go there and do it lawfully. AG's like,
- 43:56Speaker 1: what a mean dude. Ash is like, I just don't
- 43:59Speaker 1: get how someone can get off killing like that. I mean,
- 44:02Speaker 1: I don't want to kill, but they just keep coming
- 44:04Speaker 1: at me and I don't really have a choice. AG says,
- 44:08Speaker 1: I know right. Ash's like, I wish she could just
- 44:11Speaker 1: take my place. AG's like, what if you were in
- 44:14Speaker 1: his place? Like, say you were the one hunting us
- 44:18Speaker 1: down Ash says, I wouldn't take the job, it wouldn't
- 44:21Speaker 1: be worth it. Age's like, but say you had to,
- 44:24Speaker 1: and he kind of like sticks his finger and ash
- 44:26Speaker 1: his face. Ash kind of pouts and slightly flushes, and
- 44:29Speaker 1: he's like, I guess i'd analyze your weak spots again.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Then he gasps and thinks, that's it. It's me, Yeah, dude,
- 44:39Speaker 1: it is to find out where I am. They'll upset
- 44:42Speaker 1: the chain of command. Ag is looking real tired, like
- 44:46Speaker 1: he's about to fall asleep, while Ash thinks this over
- 44:48Speaker 1: in his head, and then Ash says, if I were them,
- 44:52Speaker 1: ag perks up, I'd stir up the leaders and see
- 44:54Speaker 1: how they react. We cut to an exterior shot of
- 44:58Speaker 1: this vacant apartment complex. Two guys in ski masks, obviously
- 45:04Speaker 1: not part of the gangs come to a corner and
- 45:07Speaker 1: they just stand there and wait. We see Alex looking
- 45:11Speaker 1: through binoculars. He says Ash was right. They're gathering around
- 45:15Speaker 1: the north square, Ash, Alex, Kane, and Singer on one
- 45:19Speaker 1: of the rooftops. Kane says, how did you know? Ash
- 45:23Speaker 1: is like ask Age. Kane En Sing looks super confused,
- 45:27Speaker 1: and Ash continues, there's one team every five hundred meters.
- 45:31Speaker 1: He's looking through the binoculars now down at the arm guys,
- 45:34Speaker 1: which are hiding behind some fucked up cars that are
- 45:37Speaker 1: just there. He continues, they're moving in a V formation.
- 45:41Speaker 1: The main force must be fanned out behind them. Kane says,
- 45:45Speaker 1: what now. We cut to inside, where all of the
- 45:48Speaker 1: gangs are gathered around Ash, and Ash says the third
- 45:52Speaker 1: and fourth ward groups will escape through the supersystem. Yay sewers.
- 45:56Speaker 1: He points to a map that's on this box or
- 45:59Speaker 1: something thing and says, we'll stay behind in fights, draw
- 46:02Speaker 1: them in close, and then escape from the north second ward.
- 46:05Speaker 1: If we can lead them downtown, we can win. We'll
- 46:08Speaker 1: meet in forty eight hours at the storehouse on Peer six.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Got it? And everyone's like, yeah, Now, Pier six is
- 46:15Speaker 1: actually in Brooklyn. It's a park that's not far from
- 46:18Speaker 1: the Brooklyn Bridge, So I don't think this is really
- 46:20Speaker 1: where they would meet up. I should check the manga
- 46:23Speaker 1: and see if it's different, but I didn't. Sorry. We
- 46:28Speaker 1: cut to Alex and some guys getting guns ready, and
- 46:30Speaker 1: Alex says, come on, hurry. We see Sing and ag
- 46:34Speaker 1: walking and we hear Ash say sing Sing stops and
- 46:38Speaker 1: turns back and Ash just like, look after them for me.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Sing says, leave it to me. Don't you die now?
- 46:45Speaker 1: Ash says I don't plan on it. Sing gives him
- 46:48Speaker 1: a thumbs up and says, see you at the pier
- 46:51Speaker 1: and he starts to walk off again. Ag who is
- 46:54Speaker 1: walking with him, turns back and says in forty eight hours,
- 46:58Speaker 1: and Ash says yeah. We cut to Jessica, who is
- 47:02Speaker 1: talking to Max and she's like, I'm staying too, and
- 47:04Speaker 1: Max says, no, think of Michael. We need to stay apart,
- 47:08Speaker 1: so at least one of us survives. Fuck. Jessica looks
- 47:11Speaker 1: away like sadly, and she's like, fine, see you in
- 47:15Speaker 1: forty eight hours. She runs off to follow Age and Sing.
- 47:20Speaker 1: We cut to a green lid room with a huge
- 47:23Speaker 1: display of security camera monitors. Fox and some dude are
- 47:27Speaker 1: looking at them, and another guy walks in and he's like, Colonel,
- 47:30Speaker 1: the enemy's main force is moving towards the second ward.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Fox says they're trying to buy time. Nice judgment, Okay,
- 47:37Speaker 1: all troops charge. We then see Ash, Kane and some
- 47:41Speaker 1: others hiding around like near a doorway with their guns ready,
- 47:45Speaker 1: and Ash says they're coming Kin breathes in sharply and
- 47:50Speaker 1: the soldier mercenary people start to shoot them from outside
- 47:53Speaker 1: with machine guns. Ash comes into the entranceway just enough
- 47:58Speaker 1: to fire a few shots and then ducks back against
- 47:59Speaker 1: the wa and he says draw back now. Kin starts
- 48:03Speaker 1: to move, but Ash takes another shot and then dugs
- 48:06Speaker 1: back for cover again, and Kane is like Ash, and
- 48:09Speaker 1: Ash says, don't worry, just go. Kine runs off. Ash
- 48:13Speaker 1: runs in the other direction. We see some of the
- 48:15Speaker 1: mercenaries going up the stairs and they enter the hallway
- 48:19Speaker 1: and Ash shoots one of them and then turns to run,
- 48:21Speaker 1: and one of the guys is like, he's going up
- 48:22Speaker 1: the stairs. We go to Max and some other guys
- 48:25Speaker 1: who are getting shot at and Max is like, damn it.
- 48:28Speaker 1: We cut to Ash, who was on the roof now
- 48:30Speaker 1: running and shooting and like ducking around what I thought
- 48:33Speaker 1: was like a chimney something. But it's not. It's a
- 48:35Speaker 1: water tower, I assume, cause he comes out and he
- 48:38Speaker 1: shoots again and he ducks back and one of the
- 48:40Speaker 1: guys is like, behind the water tower, so it was
- 48:42Speaker 1: a water tower and not a chimney. Ash is looking
- 48:45Speaker 1: for somewhere to go and he's like shit because there's
- 48:49Speaker 1: nowhere to go, and he just runs forward to the
- 48:51Speaker 1: edge of the roof and jumps off and manages to
- 48:54Speaker 1: crash through the window of the next building and lands
- 48:57Speaker 1: on the floor in broken glass, just breathing really hard. Yay,
- 49:02Speaker 1: I guess. We cut to Sing and Friends in the
- 49:05Speaker 1: sewer and Lo is standing with two other Chinese gang guys,
- 49:10Speaker 1: and one of them says very quietly to him, Lao,
- 49:14Speaker 1: now's our chance. The second dude says, Ash isn't here either.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Lao's like, not now. The first dude is like, remember
- 49:22Speaker 1: what Ueilong said. Lao looks down like he's having second
- 49:26Speaker 1: thoughts about all of this, And at this point, the
- 49:28Speaker 1: ending theme starts up. Before they can really think of
- 49:31Speaker 1: anything else. They look up because Jessica is fucking yelling
- 49:34Speaker 1: and she says, I can't do this. I'm sorry, but
- 49:36Speaker 1: I'm going back. Don't try to stop me. She starts
- 49:39Speaker 1: to run in the opposite direction, and Age's like Jessica.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Jessica says, I still love that idiot, huh. AG's like Jessica, wait,
- 49:47Speaker 1: and he tears off after her and sings like ag
- 49:50Speaker 1: oh fine then, and he starts to follow, and he's like,
- 49:53Speaker 1: I guess I'm gonna have my share of action too.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Lao says wait Sing Sing stops and is like, Ash
- 49:58Speaker 1: asks me to look after them, I'm leaving the rest
- 50:00Speaker 1: to you. Lal looks super fucking worried. We cut back
- 50:05Speaker 1: to Max, who is still shooting, like from around a doorway,
- 50:08Speaker 1: and he runs out of bullets and he's like, damn it,
- 50:11Speaker 1: retreat those with bullets stay at the front and put
- 50:13Speaker 1: up a barrage. They start to run off, and at
- 50:17Speaker 1: this point Bones actually get shot in the arm and
- 50:19Speaker 1: he falls to the ground. Max and Kong turned back
- 50:22Speaker 1: and Cong is like, Bones, it's just too late. Though.
- 50:24Speaker 1: The mercenaries are approaching and they have guns in their
- 50:28Speaker 1: faces now, and one of the guys is like, don't move.
- 50:32Speaker 1: This isn't working out so well, guys. We cut back
- 50:35Speaker 1: to Ash, who is jumping between rooftops and we hear
- 50:39Speaker 1: a voice say Ash links. Ash freezes. Fox is on
- 50:46Speaker 1: the ground, and he says, you get the situation, don't you.
- 50:49Speaker 1: We kind of pull out and see that he's holding
- 50:50Speaker 1: a gun to Max's head. Ash is watching from one
- 50:53Speaker 1: of the windows now and he gasps he sees that
- 50:56Speaker 1: everyone has been caught, or at least a lot of people,
- 50:59Speaker 1: including Bone and Kang and all those people. Fox says,
- 51:03Speaker 1: surrender and I'll be leaning on the hostages. Max is like,
- 51:07Speaker 1: don't listen to him. He's gonna kill us either way.
- 51:09Speaker 1: At that point, some dude hits Max with the butt
- 51:11Speaker 1: of his gun and Max falls to the ground, and
- 51:14Speaker 1: Fox says, it's your choice. Think it over. Ash watches
- 51:19Speaker 1: quietly for minutes, and we cut back to Fox. As
- 51:22Speaker 1: we start to hear footsteps in the distance. Fox turns
- 51:25Speaker 1: and he sees Ash emerging from one of the buildings.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Ash sets his gun down and the guys rush over
- 51:32Speaker 1: to apprehend him, or at least point their guns at him.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Fox walks over and says, Hi, there. He smirks. You'll
- 51:41Speaker 1: let me buy you a drink, now, won't you, mister Lynx.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Ash says nothing. He just stares solemnly. Then we go
- 51:48Speaker 1: with the title card, The Undefeated, and that's the end
- 51:51Speaker 1: of the episode. Yay. So closing thoughts. I like this
- 51:56Speaker 1: episode in theory, but in practice it's a little bit
- 52:00Speaker 1: rushed in my opinion, And I don't know if I
- 52:03Speaker 1: would say that if I hadn't read the manga, but
- 52:05Speaker 1: I have and I know that this episode is longer,
- 52:10Speaker 1: like it takes up more than volume sixteen of the manga,
- 52:14Speaker 1: Like it starts in volume fifteen and it runs the
- 52:17Speaker 1: entire course of sixteen, ending where exactly where we ended
- 52:21Speaker 1: at the end of sixteen. So like, there's a lot
- 52:25Speaker 1: of stuff that happens here that we miss, and I
- 52:27Speaker 1: think it's important to kind of talk about that because
- 52:31Speaker 1: we just miss, in my opinion, the absolute desperation that
- 52:36Speaker 1: is occurring here and a lot of other things. For example,
- 52:39Speaker 1: Fox is fucking maniac and we kind of got ash
- 52:44Speaker 1: talking about that when he's like he's fucking serial killer.
- 52:47Speaker 1: He just went to war so we could kill people,
- 52:49Speaker 1: the type of thing. But it sounds kind of out
- 52:52Speaker 1: of left fields in the anime because we don't really
- 52:55Speaker 1: know that much about what he's capable of. But in
- 52:57Speaker 1: the manga, remember the guy who was against the wall.
- 53:00Speaker 1: He was disemboweled in the manga, and he wasn't killed there.
- 53:04Speaker 1: He wasn't even one of their gang members. He was uh,
- 53:07Speaker 1: I think he was like from a Hispanic gang and
- 53:09Speaker 1: they had like literally just dumped his body there as
- 53:12Speaker 1: like a warning. There are plenty of scenes where Fox
- 53:15Speaker 1: and his men are going into like other hideouts of
- 53:20Speaker 1: other gangs and just fucking slaughtering them. He fucking cuts
- 53:25Speaker 1: the ears off of some gang member at least we
- 53:27Speaker 1: hear about that. We find out that Frog's arm that
- 53:32Speaker 1: was cut off was cut off when he was alive.
- 53:35Speaker 1: We know that because there's a whole scene with Charlie
- 53:39Speaker 1: and Jenkins, which again is really sad that we miss
- 53:42Speaker 1: because in the anime it kind of feels like Charlie
- 53:45Speaker 1: and Jenkins have just stopped existing, like they were only
- 53:48Speaker 1: relevant in the beginning of the story like the cop
- 53:50Speaker 1: side was, but it's relevant all the way through. In
- 53:52Speaker 1: the manga, they're still important. They're still trying to figure
- 53:55Speaker 1: out what's going on, and they're pretty sure Ash is live,
- 53:58Speaker 1: but we're not really getting any other and that kind
- 54:00Speaker 1: of sucks. Oh and then also like Fox fucking stabs
- 54:04Speaker 1: a guy in the mouth too. He's just a really
- 54:07Speaker 1: scary dude basically. And also we get some background on
- 54:13Speaker 1: Fox like talking to his guys about this mission, and
- 54:16Speaker 1: it is set up as a quote unquote rescue mission,
- 54:20Speaker 1: like the objective is to save Ash from this gang
- 54:26Speaker 1: that is holding him, and they know that's not true,
- 54:28Speaker 1: but that is the way that they're looking at this.
- 54:30Speaker 1: They're using like anti gorilla techniques on these kids, and
- 54:35Speaker 1: they go into it knowing that even though these are teenagers,
- 54:40Speaker 1: that they're going to be difficult to deal with because
- 54:45Speaker 1: Ash is involved. And I want to specify that this
- 54:49Speaker 1: is one of I think like a lot of times
- 54:52Speaker 1: that the manga really hammers in that these gang members
- 54:55Speaker 1: are fucking teenagers, Like the oldest members of these gangs
- 54:59Speaker 1: are in their early twenties, their kids, and they're treating
- 55:04Speaker 1: them like they're this crazy enemy force when they're really
- 55:08Speaker 1: like just a bunch of homeless teenagers. And I'm sure
- 55:11Speaker 1: not all of them are homeless. It's like a sure,
- 55:13Speaker 1: it's a variety of people just really bad home lives
- 55:16Speaker 1: or people who just fell into the wrong crowd, and
- 55:18Speaker 1: like truly homeless people, Like where the fuck do Bones
- 55:21Speaker 1: and Kang live? Like how are they just always around?
- 55:24Speaker 1: Like these kids do not deserve to have the military
- 55:28Speaker 1: sicked on them, Like yeah, so we miss Also, like
- 55:32Speaker 1: Ash figures out what's going on, and he's like training
- 55:36Speaker 1: them as much as he can, the gangs, trying to
- 55:39Speaker 1: prepare them for close combat. They get just tons and
- 55:43Speaker 1: tons of weapons and ammunition and fucking bombs, which I
- 55:46Speaker 1: thought was a little bit excessive actually, so I was
- 55:48Speaker 1: glad that that was cut. But like the military operation
- 55:53Speaker 1: kind of thing against them is insane. It's like a
- 55:56Speaker 1: multi day thing. They send in a platoon and the
- 55:59Speaker 1: gangs just fucking kill them all, like they set off
- 56:03Speaker 1: some sort of explosives and just kill them, all of them.
- 56:07Speaker 1: And then like the next day they like have a
- 56:10Speaker 1: totally different tactic and they're like, I can't remember what's
- 56:14Speaker 1: going on. But like when Ash is like sitting at
- 56:17Speaker 1: the laptop and going like, how are they gonna attack?
- 56:19Speaker 1: How are they gonna attack, it is because he is
- 56:21Speaker 1: fucking scared. They do not know what these guys are doing,
- 56:25Speaker 1: and it's already been a mess. And then they get
- 56:29Speaker 1: to a point where they are just attacking them every
- 56:31Speaker 1: ten minutes, like storming in and fucking shooting at them
- 56:35Speaker 1: and then pulling back every ten minutes, and then they
- 56:38Speaker 1: just stop and they are trying to fucking starve them out,
- 56:43Speaker 1: but that's really hard to do because these kids are
- 56:46Speaker 1: really scrappy and they just can't. So eventually they give
- 56:49Speaker 1: up and they just storm in all together, and that's
- 56:51Speaker 1: where we get to kind of the end of the episode.
- 56:54Speaker 1: But like, it's this whole big tactical warfare thing that
- 56:58Speaker 1: I really like, And as I was saying, it just
- 57:01Speaker 1: kind of hammers in how fucking scary this is, because again,
- 57:05Speaker 1: these are teenagers, and yeah, teenagers tend to be more
- 57:08Speaker 1: willing to put themselves in dangerous situations, but they're fucking kids, like,
- 57:14Speaker 1: please don't attack them. So I kind of hate that
- 57:18Speaker 1: was missing. There's just an amount of desperation that we
- 57:21Speaker 1: are very very much losing in the anime. Even though
- 57:24Speaker 1: I'm sure maybe you're saying, like, well, it did come through,
- 57:27Speaker 1: it is looks like a really bad situation. Yeah, what
- 57:29Speaker 1: I'm saying is it's much worse. I just feel like
- 57:31Speaker 1: there's a pacing issue. Like everything felt really really really
- 57:34Speaker 1: fast and wasn't breathing very much. Like even the scene
- 57:39Speaker 1: where Ash was having that kind of flashback with Frog
- 57:43Speaker 1: and click click click, everything felt too fast in this episode.
- 57:48Speaker 1: It just needed like a little bit more time to breathe.
- 57:51Speaker 1: So I think this is the kind of worst of
- 57:55Speaker 1: the pacing issues for this anime. I don't think there
- 57:58Speaker 1: are too many, but I really do think this episode
- 58:01Speaker 1: is a case that this show really needed like two
- 58:03Speaker 1: more episodes to breathe a little bit. But you know,
- 58:07Speaker 1: we got what we got and it's not bad. It's
- 58:09Speaker 1: just I would have liked to see some of this. Also,
- 58:12Speaker 1: we lost a very important part of a scene. I
- 58:15Speaker 1: told you that Ash was training the guys. He's training them,
- 58:19Speaker 1: and AG's just kind of standing there watching and Ash
- 58:23Speaker 1: realizes that and he turns to him and he says,
- 58:25Speaker 1: do I scare you? And you know, AG says something like,
- 58:28Speaker 1: of course not, and then he smiles. Those scenes are
- 58:32Speaker 1: so important coming up, like we needed them for what
- 58:38Speaker 1: happens at the end basically, So I hate that that
- 58:41Speaker 1: was rude. There was no way to put it in there,
- 58:43Speaker 1: but it would have been nice, you know. I mean,
- 58:47Speaker 1: that's pretty much I guess all I wanted to say.
- 58:50Speaker 1: And also just kind of losing all of this kind
- 58:53Speaker 1: of war of attrition type thing that was going on,
- 58:55Speaker 1: and this part where Fox and his guys were truly surprised.
- 59:01Speaker 1: Even though they had gone into it knowing that Ash
- 59:03Speaker 1: was very well trained, it has very very good reflexes,
- 59:07Speaker 1: they were still really caught off guard. All of that
- 59:10Speaker 1: is really important for what happens in the next episode
- 59:13Speaker 1: and how Ash was treated in the next episode. Some
- 59:18Speaker 1: of it just doesn't make sense without him and the
- 59:21Speaker 1: gang having just fucking straight up murdered tons of these
- 59:26Speaker 1: French foreign Legion guys. So I think that's really all
- 59:29Speaker 1: that needs to be said in this episode. Oh wait,
- 59:32Speaker 1: there is a little bit more. It's not super important,
- 59:34Speaker 1: so you can just leave if you don't want to
- 59:36Speaker 1: hear it, but I wanted to point out because I
- 59:40Speaker 1: think that it is as important. In case you didn't know,
- 59:44Speaker 1: the Mafia had a important role in gay bars in
- 59:48Speaker 1: New York in the nineteen seventies, Like they pretty much
- 59:52Speaker 1: just owned most of the gay bars. In fact, during
- 59:55Speaker 1: the Stonewall Uprising, remember the Mafia owned that ball. It
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: was a big business for them, I guess because gay
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: bars were illegal. So the cops knew that they were
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: running these gay bars, and apparently, you know, they do
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: raids on them. But they tell the mafia when they
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: were going to do raids on the gay bars, so
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: they'd make sure it was like during the day when
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: not a lot of people were there, and they'd like
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: let everyone know before it was going to happen. That
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: kind of thing because New York, you know, in the
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: latter part of nineteen hundreds, was really really just run
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: by the mafia. So some of this stuff might seem
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: far fetched, but it kind of isn't. Also, during the
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: nineteen seventies, the cops decided that they wanted to crack
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: down on prostitution that was happening in these gay bars,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: and they had a whole initiative and I don't remember
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: what it was called, but eventually they had to just
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: fucking stop the initiative because so many important, like famous
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: and influential people were getting implicated in this. Oh yeah,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: And I think it's interesting that they were just like,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: oh no, we should just not do this anymore, instead
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: just taking everyone down who needed to be taken down,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: because that's how corrupt everything was. So I really just
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: wanted to point that out for you. Also, I've kind
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: of alluded to it a couple of times, but the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: esthetic in episodes twenty and twenty one is like my
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: favorite thing in the whole fucking world. Like I love
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: underground shit and sewers and abandoned places, So this is
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: like so up my alley in a way that most
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: anime isn't It just made me feel like super super
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: good about I don't know, living in the US in
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: an old, decaying East Coast city. I don't know. It
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: just it's awesome and uh, definitely kind of an esthetic
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: that I don't usually get from the anime that I'm watching,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: So yeah, this is like my home aesthetic more or less. Also, yeah,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: there are actually abandoned subway stations in New York that
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I guess they could probably have stayed in in the
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: last episode. Most of them do have trains that run
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: through them, but hey whatever. Also, I think they probably
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: could have used the sewer system to escape in twenty
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: and also I guess now in twenty one, I would
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: assume that the sewer system is probably the uh storm
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: runoff sewer system, not the sanitary I know they're like
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: kind of combined in New York, but I don't think
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: they're combined all the time, so they would probably be
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: walking through just like dirty water and not shit most
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: of the time. And some of these, like sewers, depending
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: on when they were built, really are big enough to
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: accommodate a standing person. So yeah, I just wanted to
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: put that out there because I love it. And also,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: oh about the apartment complex that they're at right now,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: which looks like a whole fucking neighborhood. I was trying
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: to figure out if I could find one that would
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: make sense for us, especially in the eighties, and I couldn't.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: But I would totally believe, not in twenty eighteen, but
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: when this was originally set in eighty five, I would
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: absolutely believe there was like a block or two that
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: just had burned out tenement buildings. So yeah, that's that's
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: all I got with that. Anyway, I hope that you
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: didn't hate this. I'm really trying my best right now,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: but everything just really really sucks. And I am really
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: surprisingly not looking forward to talking about episodes twenty two
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: through twenty four, like it all. Like I am kind
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: of scared to watch twenty two. Just thinking about it
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: makes me upset, So like, this is gonna be rough,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: and I don't know, I guess also with it being
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: in the end of the year at least for me
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: now for you it's the new year or whatever. Like
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: I'm just you know, reflecting a lot on how this
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: is going. And thank you guys for like sticking with me.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: I fucking think there's like four of you right now,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: like there's just nobody listening to this, So I don't
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: know what I did to keep you guys, but I
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: hope you know that I really appreciate it and that
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: like I hate myself right now, like I just fucking
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: everything sucks. And I know that's not relevance to this podcast,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: but I just wanted to say that I'm probably gonna
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: continue after this season, but right now, I just I
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: don't really know, like is it worth it. Sorry, sorry
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: to be kind of a downer. I don't know, I
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: don't know if this is even gonna stay in the episode.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I just I really appreciate you listening. This is nice
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: to have just anyone to talk to about some of
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: this stuff, so even if it's stupid like this. But
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: and I also just wanted to say that I'm in
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: a really weird place because this anime just I don't know,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: I just ended up really needing it this year. I
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: needed something to think about that wasn't my own problems,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: you know, So I am thankful for you guys. I'm
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: also really just thankful for getting into Banhana Fish this year,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: as weird as that is. But uh, I mean, I
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: hope you guys, stick with me. If you don't, that's
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: that's cool. Whatever, and I'll see you next week unless
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: I get food poisoning again or the world ends and
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: we'll do episode twenty two as match as I really
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: really don't want to do it, don't make me do it, guys. Anyway,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: I hope you have a really good whatever later. Weeps
