- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard line. Second to day.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Three wide receivers now in motion as Puppas left to right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones, a single setback Matt pump FECs looking at
- 0:14Speaker 1: the goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpas, and
- 0:26Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team powered by Seahawks dot Com. But
- 0:33Speaker 1: wait is over. Hawk Talk is finally back in twenty
- 0:37Speaker 1: twenty two, and I'm here, Nasachoba, your host with the
- 0:41Speaker 1: one you want to hear. Michael Bumpus, the hostess with
- 0:44Speaker 1: the Mostess, the new host of the Bumping Stacy Show
- 0:47Speaker 1: on Seattle Sports seven ten. He's the host of the
- 0:50Speaker 1: pregame show number five in Your Cougar Programs, number sixteen
- 0:54Speaker 1: on your Seahawk program Back in the day, Michael Bumpus
- 0:57Speaker 1: was good. Buddy was good. And it's been too long.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It's been too long, but we are back, ready to go.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Been some changes with the Seahawk team, but change could
- 1:06Speaker 1: be good. So I'm excited to talk about the dudes. Man. Yeah, Man,
- 1:10Speaker 1: I think the overarching kind of storyline all training camp
- 1:14Speaker 1: was just excitement. People are excited to be in this building.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I'm excited to be in this building. This training camp
- 1:19Speaker 1: had a different field than really anything that I've been
- 1:21Speaker 1: a part of since I've been with the Seahawks. As
- 1:23Speaker 1: we know, I'm not breaking any news here. Number three,
- 1:26Speaker 1: Russell Wilson is no longer on the football team, Bobby
- 1:28Speaker 1: Wagner is not here. But it's just a different feel,
- 1:31Speaker 1: you know. We've heard Pete Carroll and John Schneider talked
- 1:33Speaker 1: about getting back in the reelhouse and it's about competition
- 1:36Speaker 1: and things have been fun this month at training camp.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So I'm so excited that we're actually getting ready to
- 1:41Speaker 1: talk about real football. Bump it counts next Monday. Where
- 1:44Speaker 1: are your first initial thoughts when you look at this
- 1:47Speaker 1: opening day roster for the Seahawks. Man, When I look
- 1:49Speaker 1: at this roster, obviously the big focus this offseason was
- 1:53Speaker 1: the quarterback position. You got Gino and Drew Lot battling
- 1:55Speaker 1: it out. Drew kind of. You got Covid five days
- 1:58Speaker 1: six days out the game kind of put them behind,
- 2:00Speaker 1: but end of the day, he had an opportunity to
- 2:02Speaker 1: when the job didn't When the job, Gino takes it
- 2:04Speaker 1: there the running back spot. We know this is Rashad's team, right.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Shaw's gonna get every opportunity to show the twelves and
- 2:12Speaker 1: everyone across the country that last year was not a fluke.
- 2:15Speaker 1: No surprises there, but I gotta show some loves to
- 2:17Speaker 1: DJ real quick. Second preseason in the row. This guy
- 2:21Speaker 1: has has shown that he deserves to be on this team.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Number thirty one was the leading rusher on this team
- 2:26Speaker 1: and one of the leading rushers in the preseason. Excited
- 2:29Speaker 1: for that. The one position that surprised me a little
- 2:31Speaker 1: bit with a cut was wide receiver because Freddie Freddie
- 2:35Speaker 1: Swain has been the guy that you can rely on
- 2:36Speaker 1: for a big play, who were there every single season
- 2:38Speaker 1: and he just didn't get it done. But that lets
- 2:40Speaker 1: you know that there's some young guys in that receiver
- 2:43Speaker 1: room that are pushing to get some time. Is nice
- 2:45Speaker 1: to see dsk Gridge. He seems like he's healthy, Mark
- 2:47Speaker 1: he's Gilbin is going to be in the mix. Penny
- 2:49Speaker 1: Hart and Therek Young the seventh round pick made the squad.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I'm loving when I'm seeing so far. Yeah, we're gonna
- 2:55Speaker 1: keep coming back to it all season long and definitely
- 2:57Speaker 1: throughout this podcast. In its competition you mentioned it. Sway
- 3:00Speaker 1: was that guy last year. He was at number three receiver.
- 3:02Speaker 1: He seemed to make a decent amount of plays. He
- 3:04Speaker 1: was a good option for Russell Wilson in that offense.
- 3:07Speaker 1: But you come in this year in the Seahawks draft
- 3:09Speaker 1: a Derek Young late in the draft. Right, you have
- 3:12Speaker 1: the es which coming back. Mark he's Goodwin comes in
- 3:15Speaker 1: and a guy that people forget about all the time
- 3:16Speaker 1: is Penny Hart. Penny Hart is a guy that was
- 3:19Speaker 1: it used to kind of be underneath the radar. He
- 3:21Speaker 1: was a guy that you knew was going to help
- 3:22Speaker 1: you on a special teams. But he just doesn't enough.
- 3:24Speaker 1: He's always around the ball and making plays and he's
- 3:26Speaker 1: gonna help it. So I just love the competition. You know,
- 3:29Speaker 1: just because you were doing something last year does not
- 3:30Speaker 1: mean you're gonna be on the team doing it this year.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So I'm really excited about that receiving corps. Obviously, Tyler
- 3:36Speaker 1: and DK, we know who they are. They're the best
- 3:37Speaker 1: combo receivers in the National Football League, But it'll be
- 3:40Speaker 1: good to see who emerges as that third receiver. I
- 3:43Speaker 1: know a lot of us kind of thought, even going
- 3:45Speaker 1: in last year, is gonna be the es Ridge he
- 3:46Speaker 1: gets hurt in that Colts game, doesn't really come back
- 3:49Speaker 1: towards the end of the year. And now you add
- 3:51Speaker 1: markis Goodwin and other speed served between both those guys
- 3:53Speaker 1: that can kind of do some of the same things.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So it'll be really interesting to see. And shout out
- 3:57Speaker 1: to Derek Young for making the ball club kind of
- 4:00Speaker 1: just going throughout the rest of this roster tight ends,
- 4:03Speaker 1: not a lot of surprise. There will Distlely coming back,
- 4:05Speaker 1: Uncle Will doing his thing. Kobe Parkinson hoping that he's
- 4:09Speaker 1: a guy that can kind of get after it in
- 4:11Speaker 1: the red zone this year. He's a six seven frame,
- 4:14Speaker 1: he looks physically amazing. He's been hit in the weight
- 4:16Speaker 1: room hard. He looks like a guy that's definitely going
- 4:18Speaker 1: to be an impact this year in the red zones.
- 4:20Speaker 1: We're hoping to see that. But a guy I want
- 4:22Speaker 1: to get your opinion on, Bump is no a fan.
- 4:24Speaker 1: You know, he's the big name coming out from Denver
- 4:27Speaker 1: in the Russell Wilson trade other than you know Drew
- 4:29Speaker 1: Lock and Shelby Harris as well. But No Offense was
- 4:31Speaker 1: their leading receiver last year in terms of reception for
- 4:33Speaker 1: the Broncos. What are you expecting to see from him
- 4:36Speaker 1: within this Shane Waldron offense. Well, No Offense has to
- 4:39Speaker 1: be that number three receiver. Now you had Gerald Ever
- 4:42Speaker 1: last year who was essentially that number three receiver. He's
- 4:45Speaker 1: gone and No Offense does a little bit more. What
- 4:47Speaker 1: we loved about Gerald Ever was that he can play outside,
- 4:49Speaker 1: he can play inside, and he can block. I like
- 4:51Speaker 1: a no A fan, I see the same thing, but
- 4:53Speaker 1: I see it at a higher level. No Offense is
- 4:55Speaker 1: a guy who can take a scream forty fifty sixty yards.
- 4:57Speaker 1: There's not too many tight ends in the league that
- 4:59Speaker 1: can do that. If you're talking about the George Kittles,
- 5:01Speaker 1: the Wallers and even the Kelsey's, There's only so many
- 5:04Speaker 1: tight ends who have those type of attributes. He might
- 5:07Speaker 1: be a guy that opens up this offense. The knock
- 5:09Speaker 1: with Russell Wilson was you don't use your tight ends enough.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You don't throw the ball across the middle. With Russell
- 5:14Speaker 1: not being here, you got Shane Walden will feel like
- 5:16Speaker 1: it's really gonna evolve as a play caller. You're bringing
- 5:18Speaker 1: up over a guy like Noah Fan. All he's gonna
- 5:20Speaker 1: do is enhance this offense. And what I like about
- 5:23Speaker 1: this room, Nass is that there's three different type tight ends. Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 1: Will Disley the guy who's whose blue collar gonna block.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You got Colbe Parkinson up Todd mister six seven, I'm
- 5:32Speaker 1: looking about ten pounds heavier this year. And then you
- 5:34Speaker 1: got Noah Fan, who does a little bit of everything.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So yeah, no a Fan could be a key piece
- 5:39Speaker 1: of this thing. You mentioned all the names, the weapons
- 5:41Speaker 1: on offense, the receivers, the running bags, no offense in
- 5:44Speaker 1: dsk Bridge. I'm looking at those two to kind of
- 5:46Speaker 1: insert themselves into this offense and mix it up a bit. No, absolutely,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and I love that. And if we're talking offense, Ray
- 5:52Speaker 1: Roberts would come after us if we didn't mention the
- 5:54Speaker 1: offensive line, So we definitely got to go there. Obviously
- 5:57Speaker 1: a lot of big improvements to that offensive line, and
- 6:00Speaker 1: we're gonna start first of all with left tackle. You
- 6:02Speaker 1: draft Charles Cross out of Mississippi State, and he at
- 6:05Speaker 1: the number nine overall pick and he's the guy that
- 6:07Speaker 1: you put in right away. There's no questions about this
- 6:10Speaker 1: or that. No, you draft him, he walks right into
- 6:12Speaker 1: that room and he is your starting left tackle. And
- 6:14Speaker 1: he's the guy that looked really good in the preseason.
- 6:17Speaker 1: He had the one game against Chicago where he had
- 6:18Speaker 1: a bunch of fall start penalties, but that's something that's
- 6:21Speaker 1: so easily corrected, you know what I'm saying. So looking
- 6:24Speaker 1: past that, he's physical, he has a good bass. He's
- 6:27Speaker 1: going to be a guy that I think is going
- 6:29Speaker 1: to be a mainstay on this line for the next
- 6:31Speaker 1: decade to come. Hopefully. I'm not calling him Walter Jones
- 6:34Speaker 1: or anything like that, but just the longevity is that
- 6:37Speaker 1: he has a potential. It'll be a guy like that.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And then you go down the line. Obviously, Damian lewis
- 6:42Speaker 1: coming back. He obviously was hurt in the preseason, but
- 6:45Speaker 1: he's back there, coming back. Hopefully he'll be ready to
- 6:47Speaker 1: go for the season opener. Austin Blythe, a new addition
- 6:50Speaker 1: from previously with the Rams and the Chiefs, taken over
- 6:54Speaker 1: at center on the other side, gave Jackson and then
- 6:57Speaker 1: at right tackle, one of your koops, Abe Lucas looks
- 7:01Speaker 1: like he's won the job at right tackle. And it's
- 7:04Speaker 1: crazy if the Seahawks got this right to get two
- 7:06Speaker 1: potential bookend tackles in one draft, and Abe Lucas is
- 7:10Speaker 1: doing nothing but mauling people. I thought all they did
- 7:13Speaker 1: was pass it Wazoo bump apparent of this guy can
- 7:16Speaker 1: run block. He's putting people in the turf. And if
- 7:19Speaker 1: you're a dB and he's coming around that corner, you're
- 7:21Speaker 1: gonna make start making some business decisions because Abe Lucas
- 7:24Speaker 1: is a maller and I love what I saw from
- 7:25Speaker 1: him in this preseason. Yeah, and Lucas and Charles Cross,
- 7:28Speaker 1: those were the focus when it comes to that offensive
- 7:30Speaker 1: line for good reason. You mentioned Charles Cross number nine pick,
- 7:33Speaker 1: He's gonna play. He could have had the worst preseason
- 7:35Speaker 1: in the world, didn't matter. You're picking number nine. You're
- 7:37Speaker 1: gonna play. Thankfully, he did not have the worst preseason
- 7:39Speaker 1: in the world. Any showed that he can play. Did
- 7:41Speaker 1: have some hiccups, but that's what rickies do. They're gonna
- 7:43Speaker 1: have hiccups. On the other side, I've been saying that people,
- 7:45Speaker 1: this is the best draft I've seen from the Hawks
- 7:47Speaker 1: in a long time, and a lot of the reason,
- 7:49Speaker 1: not just because of Charles Cross, is because of what
- 7:51Speaker 1: they did in the later rounds. And Abe Lucas is
- 7:53Speaker 1: one of those guys. You bring Abe Lucas in to
- 7:55Speaker 1: play that offensive line? No one. I guess he had
- 7:58Speaker 1: the potential to be the starter, but you felt like
- 8:00Speaker 1: he had to go through Phil Haynes, had to go
- 8:02Speaker 1: through Ja Kerhand, he had to go through Stone Foresife.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Guys who have been here and played a little bit,
- 8:07Speaker 1: he did exactly that. Man, he showed that. Um, yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 1: they passed the ball a bunch of wallazoo. But he's
- 8:11Speaker 1: an athlete. You gotta forget. He comes from Archbishop Murphy
- 8:14Speaker 1: over there in Evert they r and the football. He
- 8:17Speaker 1: played basketball. He's an athletic type of dude. I look
- 8:20Speaker 1: at this offensive line. I love the interior. We gotta
- 8:23Speaker 1: see how Damian Lewis hills up from his injury. But
- 8:25Speaker 1: you got Austin blythe you got Gabe Jackson. I'm optimistic
- 8:28Speaker 1: about this offensive line. They're gonna lean on him early
- 8:30Speaker 1: because they want to run the football a lot. We
- 8:32Speaker 1: were shot pennyback there, but now I look at the
- 8:35Speaker 1: d line nast and I see two names that I
- 8:38Speaker 1: just want to love off Todd Puna Ford and newly
- 8:41Speaker 1: captain Al Woods. Those guys are gonna hold down the interior.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Ryan Mulney had a good preseason. Miles Adams one of
- 8:48Speaker 1: my favorite players to watch this preseason. He was everywhere.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Quentin Jefferson is back for the second time, and they
- 8:53Speaker 1: have Shelby Harris who's involved in that Denver trade. This
- 8:56Speaker 1: defensive line is gonna be key. They're not gonna get
- 8:58Speaker 1: all the glory, right, not gonna be celebrated the way
- 9:01Speaker 1: that they should be saying with the offensive line. But
- 9:03Speaker 1: you look at the guys who have been here, the
- 9:05Speaker 1: guys who are emerging, and the guys who are are
- 9:07Speaker 1: back for the are here for the first time, and
- 9:09Speaker 1: you gotta look at this this d line and say, Okay,
- 9:11Speaker 1: you can work with this absolutely. I think when I
- 9:14Speaker 1: see those names, I just think it runs stuffers up front.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I think a big out woods Man. You're not moving
- 9:18Speaker 1: that dude. He's gonna eat a bunch of double teams
- 9:20Speaker 1: and keep guys off the linebackers poona Ford does the
- 9:23Speaker 1: same thing. Brian Money is another guy that helps in
- 9:25Speaker 1: the interior, and I love bringing Quinn Jefferson back. He's
- 9:28Speaker 1: one of my favorites personally over here. He's made a
- 9:30Speaker 1: couple of stints with the Seahawks, and he had a
- 9:32Speaker 1: great career, you know, outside of this building with the
- 9:34Speaker 1: Raiders and the Bills, So it's good to see him
- 9:36Speaker 1: back in the building. I think the defensive line is
- 9:38Speaker 1: going to be in really good shape. And we're gonna
- 9:41Speaker 1: talk about this a little bit more later. But when
- 9:42Speaker 1: you think of defensive line, when you see the roster
- 9:44Speaker 1: and you go, wait, there's only six or seven defensive lineman.
- 9:46Speaker 1: What's that about? Well, it's because of the defense, is
- 9:49Speaker 1: because of the three four, right, So we're gonna have
- 9:51Speaker 1: all these linebackers that are gonna play that quasi role
- 9:54Speaker 1: kind of defensive line kind of linebacker gonna line up
- 9:56Speaker 1: on the edge and the offenses constantly has to figure
- 9:59Speaker 1: out which guys are rushing the passer. Right. So the
- 10:04Speaker 1: thing I love about that, So where would go to linebacker?
- 10:06Speaker 1: Because I kind of grew both these the front seven
- 10:08Speaker 1: in together. Is boy, Darryl Taylor, come on now, I'll
- 10:12Speaker 1: come out. Let's say we'll do the hot takes from
- 10:14Speaker 1: the jump, right, Darryl Taylor will have at least twelve
- 10:17Speaker 1: sacks this year, all right, And you know, honestly, I
- 10:20Speaker 1: shouldn't even really take credit for that because that's not
- 10:22Speaker 1: really going out on a limb. If anyone has watched
- 10:24Speaker 1: him at practice, if anyone saw what he did last year,
- 10:27Speaker 1: he is a dude that he has a motor and
- 10:29Speaker 1: he's always singing, he's always dancing on if you follow
- 10:32Speaker 1: any of our social media platforms, Darryl Taylor is that
- 10:35Speaker 1: dude and brings that energy. I think he's gonna go
- 10:37Speaker 1: nuts this year. Huchenna Nuosu is gonna be another guy
- 10:40Speaker 1: that helps us a lot. Coming from the Chargers, did
- 10:42Speaker 1: a lot of good things over there. You draft boy
- 10:45Speaker 1: a mafe from Minnesota. He has that burst and that
- 10:48Speaker 1: get off. We saw a little bit of what he
- 10:49Speaker 1: can do against the Steelers in that first preseason game.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Then you got guys like Alton Robinson who did some
- 10:54Speaker 1: things last year. And then the guys in the middle
- 10:57Speaker 1: right fifty six, fifty seven, George Brooks, Cody Barton. Those
- 11:01Speaker 1: are the dudes that are really stepping up and feeling
- 11:03Speaker 1: the void of Bobby Wagner. But these guys are ready,
- 11:06Speaker 1: They're ready. Cody Barton has been in waiting in the wings.
- 11:09Speaker 1: He's been here for years, waiting for his opportunity, waiting
- 11:11Speaker 1: for his opportunity. He finally gets it. Jordan Brooks came
- 11:14Speaker 1: out on the scene. He's shown what he could do.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Got banged up a little bit his rookie year. Last
- 11:18Speaker 1: year he set the franchise record and tackles, so we
- 11:21Speaker 1: know he's about that life. So I'm just really excited
- 11:23Speaker 1: about the linebackers and this front seven in general. I
- 11:26Speaker 1: really think a guy like Jordan Brooks, he's got the
- 11:28Speaker 1: dot on the helmet, you're calling the plates. It's a
- 11:30Speaker 1: lot more added responsibility. But I think he's a guy
- 11:33Speaker 1: that's gonna take a huge step in twenty twenty two.
- 11:36Speaker 1: The linebacker group has to be one of the most
- 11:38Speaker 1: versatile positions on this field, especially if you're on the edge.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Right you mentioned they're gonna walk down, give you that rush. Look,
- 11:44Speaker 1: they can also drop into space. That's when you depend
- 11:46Speaker 1: on Uchenna and boy at MAFE and Daryl Taylor. What
- 11:49Speaker 1: I love about boy at MAFE he hasn't played football
- 11:51Speaker 1: for a very long time, so everything you say to
- 11:53Speaker 1: him is gold. Everything you say, He's like, look, I'm
- 11:55Speaker 1: gonna give him my best effort and I'm gonna try
- 11:57Speaker 1: it because I don't have a lot of experience. That's
- 11:59Speaker 1: a gift in a curse, right, you don't have a
- 12:01Speaker 1: lot of experience, you haven't been through a lot of situations.
- 12:03Speaker 1: But when you are a coach to do something, you're
- 12:06Speaker 1: gonna do it. Drawing books is signed, still deliver, ready
- 12:08Speaker 1: to go. Then Cody Barnes has been waiting in the
- 12:10Speaker 1: wings for a few years now for his opportunity. We
- 12:12Speaker 1: saw him play early, struggled a little bit. Then you
- 12:14Speaker 1: move to special teams. You spot a man here or there.
- 12:17Speaker 1: He's been getting these reps. I really like this group.
- 12:19Speaker 1: We're gonna have to depend on this group, and the
- 12:21Speaker 1: next group is a cornerback group super Bowl that is
- 12:24Speaker 1: going to be targeted. Right the last couple of years,
- 12:27Speaker 1: this defense has been the greatest when it comes to
- 12:29Speaker 1: the past. But there's reason to be optimistic. Yeah, guys
- 12:33Speaker 1: coming back. Sidon Jones had a concussion this training camp.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Didn't see much of him, but we know that he
- 12:38Speaker 1: is ready to go. Then you bring over Already Burns,
- 12:40Speaker 1: a guy who's familiar with the side and what they
- 12:42Speaker 1: want to do on the back end. There, you draft
- 12:45Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant, the Jim Thorpe winner out of Cincinnati, and
- 12:48Speaker 1: then you're bringing Terq Willin, who has been a surprise
- 12:50Speaker 1: to everybody. Physically, we knew that he had that, But
- 12:54Speaker 1: now is can you line up? Can you flip the hips?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Can you be a true corner knowing that you were
- 12:59Speaker 1: a receiver of your career and you've only played fourteen games?
- 13:02Speaker 1: Get Justin Coleman here for the third time he came back.
- 13:04Speaker 1: He makes the squad than Isaiah Dunne and Michael Jackson.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Big up. So Michael Jackson, we're gonna talk about him
- 13:10Speaker 1: because he's the epitome of competition when it comes to
- 13:13Speaker 1: this roster. This dude maybe now's he played. It seemed
- 13:16Speaker 1: like he played every snap on defense and every snap
- 13:18Speaker 1: on special teams. I'm watching him like, man, he'll be
- 13:20Speaker 1: sore after this game because Michael Jackson was everywhere making plays.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I'm really happy for that dude. He made the team.
- 13:26Speaker 1: But you look at these rookies Kobe Bryant and terrieq Woollan,
- 13:29Speaker 1: You go, are we looking at the future of this
- 13:32Speaker 1: Seahawks secondary for a while now? Without question, you see
- 13:35Speaker 1: those guys, and again, Kobe Bryant's a guy that could
- 13:38Speaker 1: have easily gotten drafted way higher. You know, you win
- 13:41Speaker 1: the drem Thorpe Award, is the best dB in college
- 13:45Speaker 1: and he probably didn't get the recognition he deserved because
- 13:48Speaker 1: we played against or he played alongside excuse me, Sauce Gardner. Right,
- 13:51Speaker 1: saus Gardner is a top ten pick. Everyone's talking about
- 13:53Speaker 1: him the whole time that Kobe Bryant has been through it.
- 13:56Speaker 1: He spent putting in his time in Cincinnati, and he
- 13:58Speaker 1: showed a lot of good things out here on the
- 13:59Speaker 1: practice field. And I think what surprised people, not necessarily
- 14:02Speaker 1: in this building, but people looking on the onset was
- 14:05Speaker 1: him going to nickel, him going inside. He can obviously
- 14:08Speaker 1: play outside, but he's been used a lot on the interior.
- 14:11Speaker 1: So'll be a nice battle to kind of watch with
- 14:13Speaker 1: him moving forward and Trigu willing Man. When we got him,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I was obviously anytime you see a guy runs a
- 14:18Speaker 1: four two, what you're like, yeah, sign me up, thank you.
- 14:20Speaker 1: He's long, he's lanky, plays corner, but you expect a
- 14:23Speaker 1: huge learning curve. You expect the guy that's probably really
- 14:25Speaker 1: raw because footwork probably isn't that great. His hands might
- 14:28Speaker 1: not be that great. There might be something. There's a
- 14:30Speaker 1: reason why this specimen is here at this time, and
- 14:34Speaker 1: it's because change of positions, because how long he played football.
- 14:37Speaker 1: But he falls to you, and what surprised me is
- 14:39Speaker 1: he's not as raw as I thought he was going
- 14:41Speaker 1: to be. He's a lot more polish. His footwork is
- 14:43Speaker 1: great getting in out of break. So really excited about
- 14:46Speaker 1: the corners. And then we'll wrap it up with the safeties.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Not allowed to say there Man Quandri Digsmall Adams, we
- 14:51Speaker 1: know we're getting. Those are two the best safeties in
- 14:53Speaker 1: the National Football League. I'm really excited to what they
- 14:56Speaker 1: can do this year. Obviously Jamal Adams coming back from injury,
- 15:00Speaker 1: but seeing him get after the quarterback again and do
- 15:02Speaker 1: some good things. Quandre Diggs the most underrated free safety
- 15:05Speaker 1: in the game today. Several seasons with five interceptions, he's
- 15:08Speaker 1: balling out. Then the other good part at the back
- 15:10Speaker 1: end is their death. We know Ryan neil Kind because
- 15:12Speaker 1: he's been making plays for this team for a couple
- 15:14Speaker 1: of years now. But Josh Jones and Joey Blunt showed
- 15:17Speaker 1: up to camp and they were hitting people. They were physical,
- 15:20Speaker 1: they were in your face. There was some dust ups
- 15:22Speaker 1: and training camp with some of the receivers in DK,
- 15:24Speaker 1: but I just love to see the physicality for them,
- 15:26Speaker 1: and they're on seeing and they're ready to compete. They're
- 15:28Speaker 1: gonna help on special teams and if anyone goes down,
- 15:30Speaker 1: there's definitely a feeling of depth and reel that those
- 15:36Speaker 1: guys can step in and really help the team. We
- 15:38Speaker 1: know the specialist Michael Dickson, Jason Myers, Harot holding it down.
- 15:42Speaker 1: So love to see that. And the last thing I
- 15:45Speaker 1: would say about the roster in this building. We're gonna
- 15:48Speaker 1: hear from Coach Carroll in one second. But the reason
- 15:50Speaker 1: I want to bring it up is we're not gonna
- 15:52Speaker 1: avoid the elephant in the room, Elvin in the room,
- 15:54Speaker 1: is that everyone outside this building thinks the Seahawks are
- 15:57Speaker 1: not going to be a good football team. Right right
- 16:00Speaker 1: everywhere you look, people are saying we're goining four games,
- 16:02Speaker 1: they're gonna win three games, maybe two, What are they
- 16:05Speaker 1: doing with quarterback? Blah blah blah. But the good thing
- 16:08Speaker 1: about that, bump, the great thing about that is none
- 16:11Speaker 1: of those people are in this building and coaches football team.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Here's a head coach Pete Carroll talking about expectations going
- 16:16Speaker 1: into the season. I don't feel like that at all.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I mean I don't. I don't feel like any part
- 16:21Speaker 1: of any of that is what's true, other than the
- 16:24Speaker 1: fact that that's what people think, you know. So I'm
- 16:26Speaker 1: not in that business now. I'm in the business. They
- 16:28Speaker 1: help them, these guys get ready to play. And with
- 16:30Speaker 1: all of the all of the work that we do
- 16:32Speaker 1: and all of the mentality and the culture and the
- 16:35Speaker 1: environment that we're in, we've been averaging ten wins a
- 16:38Speaker 1: year for the last twenty something years. You know, you
- 16:41Speaker 1: think I could think anything different than that. I don't.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I don't. I don't see any reason my expectations should
- 16:46Speaker 1: change at all. I don't care what anybody says. I
- 16:49Speaker 1: love it because it's true. Did you hear the back
- 16:51Speaker 1: end of that? We've been winning Temples Games how many
- 16:53Speaker 1: years in a row? Like come on now? Some years
- 16:55Speaker 1: it is not just what we do, not his first
- 16:57Speaker 1: rodeo and the thing that I love. They're back in
- 16:59Speaker 1: the real house. And people always forget that people weren't
- 17:03Speaker 1: just known commodities. Everyone in a legion of Boom, all
- 17:05Speaker 1: those guys, Russell Bobby. Every one of them was not
- 17:07Speaker 1: a known commodity. The only guy out of that those
- 17:11Speaker 1: legion of boom guys that were talking about was Earl
- 17:13Speaker 1: Thomas was the only first round pick. Russell Koon was
- 17:16Speaker 1: one of the first round. Like, we didn't hear about
- 17:18Speaker 1: the Sherms and all those guys. They had to be discovered,
- 17:19Speaker 1: developed and found at one point, and they did that.
- 17:22Speaker 1: So I think that the Seahawks are obviously in great hands.
- 17:25Speaker 1: We know that, but I just love where they're at
- 17:27Speaker 1: and the guy leading the charge, Pete Carroll still here,
- 17:30Speaker 1: John Schneider, everyone on the same page, and we're talking
- 17:33Speaker 1: about competition bump, which leads me into the unofficial depth chart.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And I'm gonna start this by saying it's unofficial, it's
- 17:39Speaker 1: not official. That doesn't mean that what we say here
- 17:42Speaker 1: means what's going to happen on Sunday. But when the
- 17:44Speaker 1: unofficial depth chart did come out for the Seahawks, which
- 17:47Speaker 1: every team has to put in their game release bump,
- 17:49Speaker 1: which jumped out to you the most. You've got three
- 17:53Speaker 1: rookies that are supposedly going to start right you mentioned
- 17:56Speaker 1: this is unofficial. We talked about Charles Cross ab Lucas
- 17:59Speaker 1: on that line. You got Terik Wooling, and then you
- 18:02Speaker 1: have Michael Jackson, the guy who make this team the
- 18:05Speaker 1: hard way. He played every single preseason game. He was
- 18:08Speaker 1: out there sweating Some dudes played five to ten plays
- 18:11Speaker 1: and say, man multiplied app by six. All right, I'm
- 18:13Speaker 1: out there every single play. And like I mentioned, the
- 18:16Speaker 1: true definition of if you just do your job, if
- 18:18Speaker 1: you make plays and you show up, you're gonna have
- 18:20Speaker 1: an opportunity to make this team. Other than that, no
- 18:23Speaker 1: real surprises. The quarterback battle was settled. Pee Carroll came
- 18:26Speaker 1: out right after the third preseason season game and say, look,
- 18:29Speaker 1: Genos our guy. We're gonna move forward with him. Drew
- 18:31Speaker 1: Log has to support. We'll see what happens at the
- 18:33Speaker 1: end of the season. There, but really no surprises. Three
- 18:36Speaker 1: rookie starting, and then you got Michael Jackson doing it
- 18:39Speaker 1: the hard way. Yeah. Love Michael Jackson. Competition. You're hey,
- 18:43Speaker 1: other guys are banged up, you're playing the best. You
- 18:45Speaker 1: were going to be rewarded. I love the rookies that
- 18:47Speaker 1: are going to be out there. So Bump is that time, baby,
- 18:49Speaker 1: It's that time? What's on tap? What's on tap? What's
- 18:57Speaker 1: on tap. The Denver Broncos, as we've been talking about
- 19:00Speaker 1: seven and ten, last year last place finisher in the
- 19:03Speaker 1: AFC West. In twenty twenty one, they are coming to
- 19:05Speaker 1: Looming Field to take on the Seattle Seahawks on Monday
- 19:08Speaker 1: Night football. All eyes on the Emerald City next Monday. Now, Bump,
- 19:13Speaker 1: take me into this head to head comparison. Right, So,
- 19:16Speaker 1: typically we'll put a lot more stock into this as
- 19:18Speaker 1: the season goes on, because we're talking about this, but
- 19:22Speaker 1: this we're just looking at last year and so much
- 19:24Speaker 1: has changed. But Bump, what jumps out? Let's at least
- 19:27Speaker 1: look on the Denver side, what jumps out from the
- 19:28Speaker 1: head to head comparison? Here? A man like you said,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you can't put too much into this, but the thing
- 19:34Speaker 1: that does stand out to me, it's a total defense,
- 19:37Speaker 1: right number eight in the NFL, averaging three hundred and
- 19:40Speaker 1: twenty yards per game, and they were really good against
- 19:43Speaker 1: the past. Now we know that probably won't play too
- 19:45Speaker 1: much into this match up against the Seahawks. We feel
- 19:47Speaker 1: like they're gonna lean on the run to start, but
- 19:49Speaker 1: sooner or later, Gina is gonna have to open that
- 19:51Speaker 1: thing up. You still got dk, You still gotta lock it.
- 19:54Speaker 1: You still got no a fan. We'll see how ds
- 19:56Speaker 1: Gridge really inserts himself in here. But no, that's what
- 19:58Speaker 1: I look at, man, because they're gonna be so different
- 20:00Speaker 1: offensively with Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson apparently is a coach
- 20:04Speaker 1: over there. You don't, Yeah, I mean they defer to him,
- 20:07Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So we'll see what type
- 20:08Speaker 1: of game planing Russell Wilson has over They're good for him,
- 20:10Speaker 1: he got everything he wanted. But I just look at
- 20:12Speaker 1: the defense and I say, Okay, a lot of those
- 20:15Speaker 1: guys are gonna be back. They're gonna hang their hat
- 20:17Speaker 1: on that number eight defense in the league last year.
- 20:19Speaker 1: What stands out to you? Yeah, I think you took
- 20:21Speaker 1: the words of my mouth. I think what they do
- 20:23Speaker 1: defensively and they allow the points day lapper game third
- 20:26Speaker 1: in the NFL, only allowing eighteen points per game, which
- 20:29Speaker 1: usually means they were crazy, you know, causing turnovers or
- 20:32Speaker 1: really high against other stats. It doesn't really pan out
- 20:35Speaker 1: that way. They didn't. They did only have thirteen interceptions
- 20:38Speaker 1: last year and they were only plus one in the
- 20:41Speaker 1: turnover differentials, so obviously takes him account what the offense did.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But no, I just think that they're they're a solid defense.
- 20:47Speaker 1: They're gonna get to pass and they keep people off
- 20:49Speaker 1: the scoreboard. For the Seahawks, throw everything out with the
- 20:53Speaker 1: Bathwater man, throw it all out. It's all gone because
- 20:56Speaker 1: what app defensively. We talked about this for the last
- 20:58Speaker 1: two years. Man with the Seahawks ruggled a ton at
- 21:00Speaker 1: the beginning of the year and then right at the
- 21:02Speaker 1: ship and the numbers were off all year, right, So
- 21:04Speaker 1: it's hard to even look at any of these numbers
- 21:05Speaker 1: because I truly believe this defense under new leadership, with
- 21:08Speaker 1: Clint Hurt and Shawn Desai and Carl Scott and the
- 21:11Speaker 1: players that we have back players coming back from injury,
- 21:13Speaker 1: that there's no way to me that I can that
- 21:16Speaker 1: I'll see under pass defense thirty one, total defense twenty eight.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I can't. I can't even I'm not even put that
- 21:23Speaker 1: out there in the universe because I can't picture that
- 21:25Speaker 1: happening this year. So, but the one thing when we
- 21:28Speaker 1: look at the stat leaders obviously change up at the
- 21:31Speaker 1: quarterback position and some of these these top positions. But
- 21:34Speaker 1: if you're looking for the Broncos, no offense leading receptions
- 21:37Speaker 1: leader and Shelby Harris the leading sack getter or on
- 21:39Speaker 1: the Seahawks. Now switch Jersey's baby to the right side,
- 21:44Speaker 1: not the dark side. Got away from the dark side.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yoh hear what else now? But yeah, you look, Rashad
- 21:48Speaker 1: needs to be Rashad, DK needs to be DK. Dunlap
- 21:50Speaker 1: is no longer here. We're hoping Shelby Harris helps out there.
- 21:53Speaker 1: And then of course we got one of the best
- 21:54Speaker 1: punters in the game. And Michael Dixon might not get
- 21:57Speaker 1: the love that he deserves, but he will switch phil
- 21:59Speaker 1: position on you real quickly. This is what's weird about
- 22:03Speaker 1: week one, right, it is there's a lot of changes
- 22:05Speaker 1: that happened. The NFL did a great job scheduling Seahawks
- 22:08Speaker 1: versus Denverse, so there's it's hard to compare. But you
- 22:11Speaker 1: never really know what you're gonna get. This is week one.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I mean, you have an idea, right, We've been here
- 22:16Speaker 1: watching the Seahawks and their training camp in their preseason.
- 22:19Speaker 1: The Broncos been over there watching them. I'm like, you
- 22:22Speaker 1: got Nathaniel Hackett as your offensive coordinator? Are they watching
- 22:24Speaker 1: Green Bay Backers film? Like? Yeah, Theahawks looking at that
- 22:27Speaker 1: film to kind of see what Russell wants to do.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But now Russell was like a MINIOC. So the questions
- 22:32Speaker 1: that we have, I think is what's gonna make this
- 22:34Speaker 1: matchup so interesting on Monday. What I love about this,
- 22:36Speaker 1: and you'll relate to this because you're a former high
- 22:38Speaker 1: school football coach over at Monroe High School. The thing
- 22:41Speaker 1: about that first game is you go through camp, you
- 22:43Speaker 1: watch film, your practice all month, you go through all
- 22:46Speaker 1: your plays, you watch all the film. But man, you're
- 22:49Speaker 1: watching all that for a series number one for one
- 22:52Speaker 1: once that first series. At first they give a line
- 22:55Speaker 1: up and you go, oh, well, I haven't seen that
- 22:57Speaker 1: formation before, okay, and then every day out the window.
- 23:01Speaker 1: So I love that part about the first game. So
- 23:04Speaker 1: it is definitely going to be interesting. But while we're
- 23:06Speaker 1: talking about the first game and who the Seahawks are playing,
- 23:09Speaker 1: it is time to know that history. No your history
- 23:13Speaker 1: series record. Broncos lead all time regular season series thirty
- 23:16Speaker 1: five to nineteen. Last meeting was Season OPRAH in twenty eighteen,
- 23:21Speaker 1: were the Seahawks fell to the Broncos twenty seven twenty
- 23:24Speaker 1: four in Denver. That game really was remembered for let's
- 23:30Speaker 1: see a couple of things. So Russell Wilson through for
- 23:31Speaker 1: almost three hundred yards, did have three touchdowns, but was
- 23:34Speaker 1: sacked six times in through two interceptions. But what it
- 23:38Speaker 1: should be most remembered for for Seahawks fans, it was
- 23:40Speaker 1: the coming out party for Will Disley. That was his
- 23:42Speaker 1: first game. He had three receptions one hundred and five
- 23:45Speaker 1: yards in a touchdown. That's still the most reception yards
- 23:48Speaker 1: he's ever had in his career. So it's cool to
- 23:49Speaker 1: see that. And then Chris Carson. I'd be remissed if
- 23:52Speaker 1: I didn't if I didn't talk about this play because
- 23:55Speaker 1: we got to see Chris Carson's athletic ability on this
- 23:57Speaker 1: nice run. Chris Carson back again as a single setback
- 24:01Speaker 1: with a slot near side. Hey Carson gets it. Hey,
- 24:03Speaker 1: he jumps over a man at the ten fifteen twenty
- 24:06Speaker 1: down the far sidelines and steps out of bounds. Holy mackerel.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Chris Carson doing his skeets knee a Maya impression, jumps
- 24:15Speaker 1: right over the top of the defender and picks up
- 24:18Speaker 1: twenty four in a first down. What I love about that.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I know the skeets nia Maya is, but a lot
- 24:24Speaker 1: of people might not know who he is rable with
- 24:25Speaker 1: the throwback. I'm filling it hat you. He's pulled the
- 24:28Speaker 1: Skeetsnia may Out a couple of times. I'm not gonna lie.
- 24:30Speaker 1: The first time he said it, I was kind of confused,
- 24:32Speaker 1: but I did my research a mom, I'm up to
- 24:34Speaker 1: speed now. Skeetzi Maya was a burner in the hurdle,
- 24:38Speaker 1: but no, I loved I just wanted to play that
- 24:40Speaker 1: just for the hell of it. Miss you, Chris Carson.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Chris Carson did so many good things for this team.
- 24:44Speaker 1: It's a real barmer that he's not going to be
- 24:45Speaker 1: with the Seahawks anymore, but I love to see what
- 24:48Speaker 1: he was able to do. In the last random note
- 24:50Speaker 1: from that Moroncos game, Brandon Marshall caught a touchdown for
- 24:53Speaker 1: the Seahawks wild and it's so like I went back
- 24:57Speaker 1: to the box where I was like, oh yeah, Brandon
- 25:00Speaker 1: Marshall did play for the first like six games that year. Anyway,
- 25:03Speaker 1: he ended up his tenure with the Seahawks that year.
- 25:06Speaker 1: But enough about the history. Now, signed to figure out
- 25:08Speaker 1: what's going on in the NFC West and the Seahawks
- 25:15Speaker 1: where the NFC West champs again, what's the word in
- 25:19Speaker 1: the West on hot Talk, I'll tell you what the
- 25:23Speaker 1: word was. Last year, Rams win twelve and five, the
- 25:27Speaker 1: Cardinals eleven and six, Saint France ten and seven, and
- 25:29Speaker 1: your Seahawks the bottom of the division at seven. In ten,
- 25:33Speaker 1: the Seahawks missive playoffs for the first time since twenty
- 25:37Speaker 1: seventeen and twenty twenty one, man the second time in
- 25:39Speaker 1: the Pete Carroll and John Schneider Ara. The Rams, of course,
- 25:43Speaker 1: won the Super Bowl Super Bowl Ffty six. They beat
- 25:45Speaker 1: the Bengals twenty three to twenty. The Niners made it
- 25:48Speaker 1: back to the postseason in twenty twenty one, losing to
- 25:51Speaker 1: the in the NFC Championship to the Rams at twenty
- 25:53Speaker 1: to seventeen. The Cardinals made the playoffs for the first
- 25:56Speaker 1: time in six years, but were handed a nice hell
- 25:59Speaker 1: in the wild card round thirty four to eleven. Kylin
- 26:01Speaker 1: Murray did not play very well. He's pounding on the sideline.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Like we say, man, the West is going to be
- 26:09Speaker 1: arguably the tough division in football. You can look at
- 26:12Speaker 1: the FC West and throw them into the argument, but
- 26:13Speaker 1: when you look at the quarterbacks in this division alone,
- 26:16Speaker 1: you look at Matthew Stafford, Kyler Murray, you got Gino
- 26:20Speaker 1: over here as well. And then what's gonna happen with
- 26:22Speaker 1: Trey Lance? Right, He's like the big question mark in
- 26:25Speaker 1: this division. Can he be the guy? He's only played
- 26:27Speaker 1: one season, one full season since his senior year in
- 26:30Speaker 1: high school, So it's gonna be some changes there. I'm
- 26:34Speaker 1: interested to see what this forty nine or offense looks like.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Will it be like Kaepernick back in the day where
- 26:38Speaker 1: there's a lot of boot play action he used his
- 26:41Speaker 1: young guys. Athletic says that we shall see. The weird
- 26:43Speaker 1: thing about the forty nine ers is Jimmy G is
- 26:45Speaker 1: still lurking before or during the postseason. They're like, look,
- 26:49Speaker 1: we're gonna get rid of this guy. They're they're on
- 26:51Speaker 1: good terms. Jimmy G has a conference. Hey I'm out
- 26:54Speaker 1: of here. Kyle Shanahan, Hey, I'm out of here. They
- 26:56Speaker 1: try to ship them nows and nobody wanted this man
- 26:59Speaker 1: for twenty five million dollars. Then they say, look we'll
- 27:01Speaker 1: get we'll give him to you how to reduce price. Nigga, Nah,
- 27:03Speaker 1: we still don't want him. So now he is signed.
- 27:05Speaker 1: He's getting six million dollars this year. I think he's
- 27:08Speaker 1: just trade baked about four or five to six weeks
- 27:10Speaker 1: into the season, somebody might take a look at him. Yeah,
- 27:14Speaker 1: that was so weird to me because you're obviously and
- 27:16Speaker 1: you can see why when you when you take the
- 27:18Speaker 1: hat of a front office person and think what they're doing,
- 27:21Speaker 1: because you have all those goodbyes, you have a tearful goodbye,
- 27:24Speaker 1: all that stuff. Everyone says the right thing, it's amicable.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Everyone is in good shape. And you announced Trey Lance.
- 27:29Speaker 1: And usually when you give the keys to the car
- 27:31Speaker 1: to somebody else, you're like, okay, we're one hundred percent
- 27:33Speaker 1: behind you, which the forty nine ers are doing. But
- 27:35Speaker 1: they also don't sign that the old guy who still
- 27:37Speaker 1: has a key to the house, who was running things
- 27:39Speaker 1: for the last three years. They did some good things.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I mean, he did take him to do Super Bowl,
- 27:43Speaker 1: did take him to another NFEC Championship game thirty three
- 27:46Speaker 1: and fourteen as a starter. But here's the most I
- 27:49Speaker 1: think Trey Wingo posted this a while back. This is
- 27:51Speaker 1: the most Jimmy Garoppolo stat that I could that I
- 27:54Speaker 1: could bring up. So in those starts that I was
- 27:57Speaker 1: mentioned in thirty three and fourteen is a starter. He's
- 27:59Speaker 1: average one point five touchdown passes per game and has
- 28:02Speaker 1: more zero touchdown pass games with eight than three touchdown
- 28:07Speaker 1: pass games with six. So crazy. But all that being said, though,
- 28:12Speaker 1: we do know that he's obviously done enough to get
- 28:15Speaker 1: them to the super Bowl, and he's a competent quarterback
- 28:17Speaker 1: in the National Football League. What happens Week one when
- 28:20Speaker 1: maybe trays back game he throws three picks gets a
- 28:23Speaker 1: little dinged up. I mean, who's are reclaiming for Jimmy
- 28:26Speaker 1: g Who knows Jimmy's lurking? The Niners fans are gonna
- 28:30Speaker 1: go there for sure if Trey Lands is struggling, I
- 28:33Speaker 1: don't think because of the way their roster is set up,
- 28:36Speaker 1: set up twin right now. So Trey Lands goes out
- 28:38Speaker 1: there and he's not a look good in the first
- 28:40Speaker 1: few weeks, they will be hollering Jimmy's name from the mountaintop.
- 28:45Speaker 1: But let's talk about this young man down in Arizona. Okay,
- 28:48Speaker 1: dude got paid, Hala Murray, I'm not ahead, or get
- 28:50Speaker 1: your money, man, two hundred and thirty million, You go
- 28:52Speaker 1: do your thing. We was weird was about that contract.
- 28:54Speaker 1: How they put a study clause in there. No video
- 28:57Speaker 1: game claws in there. Then he comes out, he goes
- 28:59Speaker 1: it's disrespect for people to think that I wouldn't study. Well,
- 29:03Speaker 1: it wasn't in their own accident, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I've never heard of that type of clause being in
- 29:06Speaker 1: a contract. But nonetheless, there's no denying Kyler Murray can play.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I mean, he's athletic, he's got a cannon, he's elusive.
- 29:14Speaker 1: So that's a situation too. Man, how does him in
- 29:17Speaker 1: his head coach coordinator kind of get over that hump?
- 29:20Speaker 1: You didn't make it to the playoffs last year, but
- 29:22Speaker 1: you didn't look impressive at all. Yeah. We kind of
- 29:24Speaker 1: went back and forth on Kyler A. Lott over the
- 29:26Speaker 1: last two years on this podcast, specifically in this segment,
- 29:28Speaker 1: because we do know his ability. His athletic ability is
- 29:31Speaker 1: unmatching this league. We compared him a lot too when
- 29:34Speaker 1: Russell got going that Kyler Murray would not be where
- 29:36Speaker 1: Kyler Murray's at in the National Football leau if it
- 29:38Speaker 1: wasn't for Russell Wilson, because he kind of paved the
- 29:40Speaker 1: way for guys his size and athletic ability to baseball
- 29:43Speaker 1: all those other comparisons, and he can ball out, but
- 29:46Speaker 1: there's still question marks because under Cliff Kingsbury and Kyler
- 29:50Speaker 1: Murray at together, they have notoriously flamed out at the
- 29:53Speaker 1: end of the year in epic fashion. Right, They were
- 29:56Speaker 1: not playing their bestball at the end of the year
- 29:57Speaker 1: and kind of led into them getting steamrolled in the playoffs.
- 30:00Speaker 1: So it'll be interesting to see because the talent is there.
- 30:02Speaker 1: We know Cliff Kingsbury is a great offensive mind, great
- 30:05Speaker 1: offensive minding coach. The hops over there. Still they still
- 30:08Speaker 1: got playmakers, so it'll be interesting to see what goes on.
- 30:11Speaker 1: But if things don't start great, things could get real
- 30:15Speaker 1: interesting down there in Arizona. But all right, let's get
- 30:18Speaker 1: back to the matchup that matters the most, and it's
- 30:21Speaker 1: the Denver Broncos versus Seahawks. Tign the man up, this
- 30:32Speaker 1: man up on Hawk Talk. Well, this is a little
- 30:35Speaker 1: awkward up because we would start this segment a lot
- 30:38Speaker 1: of times looking at Russell Wilson against whoever they're facing,
- 30:42Speaker 1: whatever defensive matchup they had. But we're gonna flip it
- 30:45Speaker 1: on you guys this year because this first matchup we're
- 30:48Speaker 1: talking about Russell Wilson, a member of the Denver Broncos,
- 30:51Speaker 1: going up against the Seahawk defense. And this is the
- 30:54Speaker 1: most talked about, hyped up, anticipated season openers storyline that
- 30:58Speaker 1: I can remember, at least in Week one, where someone
- 31:00Speaker 1: left the team and they're playing that team in their
- 31:03Speaker 1: building that first game of the year. And you know,
- 31:07Speaker 1: Russell Wilson was great for the Seahawks, a decade of success,
- 31:10Speaker 1: super Bowl champion, tons of numbers, tons of records, just
- 31:14Speaker 1: full of stuff, right, and then now he's moved on.
- 31:17Speaker 1: The Seahawks moved on. Everyone moved on. It's a different
- 31:20Speaker 1: it's a different time here in the building at the vMac.
- 31:22Speaker 1: It's a different time for Russell in Denver. But this matchup, man,
- 31:26Speaker 1: I can't remember, So take me through it. Obviously, bump
- 31:29Speaker 1: between us. We can talk about that stuff, right because
- 31:31Speaker 1: we're not playing in the games. We know everyone downstairs
- 31:34Speaker 1: in this building is going to be locked in, ready
- 31:36Speaker 1: to go. They don't care who's lining up against him.
- 31:38Speaker 1: But when when you think about it from a coaching standpoint,
- 31:41Speaker 1: no one knows Russell Wilson more than Pete Carroll and
- 31:46Speaker 1: this staff does in the world, i'd presume, right. And
- 31:49Speaker 1: then on the same token, Russell Wilson knows this building
- 31:53Speaker 1: and what the Seahawks standpoint more than anybody who has
- 31:57Speaker 1: the advantage going into Week one based off of familiarity. Honestly,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and I'm not just saying this because I'm in Seattle.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I honestly think Seattle has the advantage because they know
- 32:08Speaker 1: his weaknesses and what he wants to do and what
- 32:11Speaker 1: he wants to be. What he wanted to be wasn't
- 32:14Speaker 1: how peat here wanted to run his program, his offense,
- 32:18Speaker 1: so they part ways. I think the challenge for Russell
- 32:21Speaker 1: is going to be what is his defense going to be?
- 32:24Speaker 1: He hasn't seen this defense in Seattle. Has he seen
- 32:27Speaker 1: a three four defense with a match zone and all
- 32:29Speaker 1: the stuff they're gonna do. Of course he has, He's
- 32:31Speaker 1: been in the league ten years. But he can't just
- 32:33Speaker 1: throw on some film from Clint Hurt being a defensive
- 32:37Speaker 1: coordinator last year, a couple of years ago and say, Okay,
- 32:39Speaker 1: this is what he likes to do. You can look
- 32:41Speaker 1: at these preseason games and say, all right, I have
- 32:43Speaker 1: an idea what they want to do, but we all
- 32:45Speaker 1: know in preseason they're vanilla is heck? So honestly, I
- 32:47Speaker 1: think Seattle has the advantage when he comes to knowing
- 32:51Speaker 1: strengths and weaknesses. Now, when it comes to execution, say
- 32:55Speaker 1: what you want about Russell might not have left the
- 32:57Speaker 1: way you liked it, But this dude can play some football.
- 33:00Speaker 1: So he's going to make some all script plays. He's
- 33:03Speaker 1: going to make some monscript plays. But initially going in
- 33:06Speaker 1: on paper when you're just sizing some guys up, Seattle
- 33:10Speaker 1: has the advantage, but you still gotta go out there
- 33:12Speaker 1: and play some ball. Absolutely, you're right. At the end
- 33:14Speaker 1: of the day, players got to make plays, and that's
- 33:15Speaker 1: always how it's going to be. It's always how whatever
- 33:17Speaker 1: will be on the football field. But I totally agree
- 33:19Speaker 1: with you. And one of the reasons why I think
- 33:22Speaker 1: about it too is beyond, like you said, the play
- 33:24Speaker 1: calling and stuff, right, Russell has seen those type of
- 33:26Speaker 1: defenses absolutely, but they know what his thought process is, like, Hey,
- 33:31Speaker 1: here's the things I like in short yardage. Hey, when
- 33:33Speaker 1: this is happening, I like to do this when this
- 33:36Speaker 1: breaks down, here are my favorite go to things. Obviously
- 33:39Speaker 1: offenses are different things like that, but they know how
- 33:41Speaker 1: he processes information. They were in meetings for a decade
- 33:44Speaker 1: with the man talking about what worked, what didn't work,
- 33:46Speaker 1: what he's trying to get done on this play. So
- 33:48Speaker 1: just kind of knowing that as a background, it's gonna
- 33:50Speaker 1: be really fun chess match though, right, because it's gonna
- 33:53Speaker 1: be back and forth, right because Ruskin like, oh, they
- 33:56Speaker 1: really think I like this in short yardage, Bam, I'm
- 33:57Speaker 1: gonna try hit him with this if it's open, and
- 34:00Speaker 1: saying for Pete Carroll and then and then Clint hurting everybody,
- 34:02Speaker 1: you know, Oh, Russell Wilson might be doing this. We should.
- 34:05Speaker 1: They're thinking we're gonna play it this way because we've
- 34:07Speaker 1: always taught that in our building, but we're actually so
- 34:09Speaker 1: that chess match is gonna be fun. I think. I
- 34:13Speaker 1: think I'm just so excited to see what our defense
- 34:15Speaker 1: is gonna look like. We're vanilla in the preseason. We
- 34:18Speaker 1: finally get to see what this defense is gonna be
- 34:20Speaker 1: like with our top safeties returning back Jordan Brooks, Cody
- 34:23Speaker 1: Barton holding down in the middle, obviously Outwoods, and those
- 34:26Speaker 1: guys up front. Daryl Taylor looks like a guy who's
- 34:28Speaker 1: gonna have double digit sack numbers, and obviously Seahawks are
- 34:31Speaker 1: draftly trying to improve on that side of the ball.
- 34:33Speaker 1: So I like it. I hope that's true. I hope
- 34:35Speaker 1: we do have the advantage and help the Seahawks go
- 34:37Speaker 1: ahead and get things going. Next matchup, we're looking at
- 34:42Speaker 1: DK Metcalf and Tyler Locke versus Packs, Patrick Certain and
- 34:46Speaker 1: Justice Stents. Now, DK Megacalf, no introduction needed, we know
- 34:51Speaker 1: who this man is. Gatorade commercials, podcasts everywhere. Seventy five receptions,
- 34:56Speaker 1: nine sixty seven and twelve touchdowns last year, Tyler logging
- 35:00Speaker 1: is consistent low Ki superstar in the league, Seventy three receptions,
- 35:03Speaker 1: eleven hundred yards and eight touchdowns. Big ups to Tyler
- 35:06Speaker 1: Locket being announced as team captain as well. I think
- 35:09Speaker 1: it is well deserved. Now the other side, flip side,
- 35:12Speaker 1: Patrick's seerteen fifty fourteen passes defended, foreign receptions, Justin Simmons
- 35:16Speaker 1: eighty tackles, one and a half Sex twelve passes defended. Now,
- 35:20Speaker 1: these are some of the biggest playmakers on the field. Now,
- 35:23Speaker 1: ball is in the air, whether they're throwing to a
- 35:25Speaker 1: Seahawk or a Bronco was defending. You gotta look at
- 35:28Speaker 1: these matchups and say this could determine the game. Right. Defensively,
- 35:32Speaker 1: we know that you want to cost turnovers and the
- 35:35Speaker 1: Hawks probably will not throw the ball over twenty five times,
- 35:39Speaker 1: but what they do, these guys are gonna be lurking
- 35:42Speaker 1: looking to make plays. And then you talk about DK
- 35:44Speaker 1: and Tyler Lockett because they're not going to throw that
- 35:46Speaker 1: ball as much as they would when Wilson was here.
- 35:50Speaker 1: They got to look to make explo plays every time
- 35:52Speaker 1: that they can. So I pictured this this game, Nass
- 35:55Speaker 1: being a grinder for a little bit, run the football
- 35:59Speaker 1: being conducted, then boom, you take a shot. Now who
- 36:02Speaker 1: comes down with the football? Is it DK is a
- 36:04Speaker 1: Locket or is it these other young men on the
- 36:07Speaker 1: other side of the football. Yeah? No, Certain is a
- 36:09Speaker 1: great football player. He had four interceptions last year, Justin
- 36:12Speaker 1: Simmons five interceptions. These guys take the ball away and
- 36:15Speaker 1: Certain is gonna be a dude that's gonna be. He's
- 36:18Speaker 1: gonna be a main staying in this league for a
- 36:19Speaker 1: long time. I think he's gonna be a perennial pro bowler,
- 36:21Speaker 1: all Pro type guy. But man, I would love if
- 36:26Speaker 1: I'm a quarterback from Geno Smith. I break that huddle,
- 36:29Speaker 1: I get in my cadence, I look to my left,
- 36:31Speaker 1: I see fourteen out Why to look to my right?
- 36:33Speaker 1: I got sixteen on the other side. Take I'm taking
- 36:36Speaker 1: that advantage of all day long? Are you kidding me?
- 36:40Speaker 1: Dk metcalf is an absolute freak. Tyler Lockett is one
- 36:43Speaker 1: of the most underrated rout runners and players in the
- 36:45Speaker 1: National Football League. I think it's gonna be really fun matchup.
- 36:47Speaker 1: It'll be about timing and being on time with your
- 36:51Speaker 1: throws and the cadence and everything from the quarterbacks and
- 36:54Speaker 1: the play calls and all that stuff. But I'm really
- 36:55Speaker 1: excited to look at that matchup between those guys. And
- 36:58Speaker 1: then the other matchup I really want to dive into
- 37:00Speaker 1: is the defensive backs and the Broncos receivers. Right, so
- 37:04Speaker 1: we talked about it earlier. Mike Jackson might be starting
- 37:07Speaker 1: alongside Shriek Woollen. Right, these guys both fifth round picks,
- 37:11Speaker 1: guys who put into work this preseason showing what they
- 37:15Speaker 1: can do, and they're out there playing and now they're
- 37:17Speaker 1: going against Cortland Sutton and Jerry Judy. Those are two
- 37:20Speaker 1: guys who want to focus on For these guys, and
- 37:23Speaker 1: Courtland Sutton, Man Duke and Ball. He's six or four
- 37:26Speaker 1: runs a four or five forty, but when I look
- 37:28Speaker 1: at him, he's game speed bump like he to me,
- 37:31Speaker 1: he looks faster than that. Last year he had fifty
- 37:33Speaker 1: eight receptions, seven hundred and seventy six yards two touchdowns.
- 37:37Speaker 1: But when I watch him, he's physical. He'll make you miss.
- 37:39Speaker 1: He can go over the top, but he runs a
- 37:41Speaker 1: lot of intermediate stuff and he'll run that slant. He'll
- 37:44Speaker 1: just kind of body of if he can run a
- 37:45Speaker 1: hitch and getting getting there tight. But this is gonna
- 37:48Speaker 1: be in Jared Judy Alabama. Boy dude can fly. So
- 37:52Speaker 1: it's gonna be a great test for the Seahawks defensive
- 37:54Speaker 1: backs right away in week one. And that's what you want, honestly,
- 37:58Speaker 1: I mean you don't. It's a gift and a curse. Right.
- 38:01Speaker 1: You can come out the first week and you could
- 38:03Speaker 1: go against a receiver corps that is average up below
- 38:07Speaker 1: average and get your feet wet, and that's the way
- 38:09Speaker 1: to get your introduction to the NFL. Or you can
- 38:12Speaker 1: get thrown into the fire, you know what I mean.
- 38:14Speaker 1: And sometimes that's the best way to do it because
- 38:16Speaker 1: you have no moment to relax, You have no time
- 38:19Speaker 1: just to chill and take a playoff. I don't think
- 38:21Speaker 1: these guys would, but there's a difference when you're going
- 38:23Speaker 1: up against a different caliber talent. So I'm interested to see,
- 38:27Speaker 1: like these guys are gonna make plays. This is the
- 38:28Speaker 1: National Football League. You're not gonna shut a guy out
- 38:31Speaker 1: completely removing from the game. I ain't seen a DVD
- 38:33Speaker 1: that since number twenty one Dean Sanders was out there
- 38:36Speaker 1: doing it, or maybe Champ Bailey. You know, there's there's
- 38:39Speaker 1: certain guys who can do it. The guy like Trigg
- 38:41Speaker 1: Woolling and Kobe Bryant there. This is a learning process,
- 38:44Speaker 1: so it's good. I love the challenge for these guys
- 38:47Speaker 1: right out the game against a Portland Sutton who's a
- 38:50Speaker 1: baller and Jerry Judy. Another matchup this is um Is
- 38:55Speaker 1: this the most the second most anticipated matchup? I mean
- 38:57Speaker 1: because we've seen we talked about the act some balls
- 39:00Speaker 1: of the ball, right, what's gonna happen there? This matchup?
- 39:03Speaker 1: Rashot Penny versus the Denver front seven. Now ra Shop
- 39:06Speaker 1: Penny beat on himself this year signed a one year
- 39:08Speaker 1: deal and says, you know what, I appreciate Seattle for
- 39:10Speaker 1: taking chances on me. I've dealt with injury throughout my
- 39:14Speaker 1: whole career and they never gave up on me. I
- 39:16Speaker 1: finished the season strong nant year. Let me prove it
- 39:18Speaker 1: this year that I can do it. Signed this one
- 39:20Speaker 1: year deal and go out and get it now. He
- 39:22Speaker 1: led the NFL with six point twenty nine rushing yard average,
- 39:26Speaker 1: the second highest and franchise history. Russell rush for seven
- 39:29Speaker 1: point one in twenty fourteen. Had eight rushes of twenty
- 39:33Speaker 1: five plus yards last year. That's tied for first with
- 39:37Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor, a Pro bowler, one of the best running
- 39:39Speaker 1: backs in the league. And he didn't have the carries
- 39:41Speaker 1: that Jonathan Tad had because he was injured. So that's
- 39:44Speaker 1: I mean, the anticipation to see if Rashad Penny can
- 39:48Speaker 1: duplicate what he did last year and continue to be healthy.
- 39:51Speaker 1: I heard him in the press the other day he goes, look,
- 39:53Speaker 1: this is the best my body has ever felt. And
- 39:55Speaker 1: I believe him. I mean, he's been heavy, he's been injured,
- 39:58Speaker 1: he's been all over the or now, so this is
- 40:01Speaker 1: a match as well. I'm looking forward to seeing can
- 40:03Speaker 1: Rashad Penny one get the tough yard is running in
- 40:06Speaker 1: between the tackles and then still be the explosive guy
- 40:09Speaker 1: in outside the tackles that we saw it in the season. Absolutely.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I mean last year, we know he was the best
- 40:14Speaker 1: in the National Football League running the football. He showed
- 40:16Speaker 1: why he's a first round pick. He showed everything that
- 40:19Speaker 1: the Seahawks saw when they drafted him. He was durable,
- 40:21Speaker 1: he was healthy, he was reliable, and yeah, you're right
- 40:25Speaker 1: for the Seahawks offense to go this year, it's about
- 40:27Speaker 1: number twenty. He is gonna he's gonna keep this thing
- 40:30Speaker 1: moving behind that offensive line. He's a home run thread
- 40:33Speaker 1: anytime he touches the ball. So I'm really excited about that.
- 40:36Speaker 1: And on the other side, Denver, they're about middle of
- 40:38Speaker 1: the pack stop in the run fifteen, allowing one hundred
- 40:40Speaker 1: and eleven yards per game. So I'm hoping that Rashad
- 40:43Speaker 1: Penny runs all over those boys. But you know that
- 40:46Speaker 1: time and his bump is time for path to victory.
- 40:52Speaker 1: At the forty five, waits for the staff, Michael Dickson
- 40:55Speaker 1: puts it down. That kick is away. If that kick
- 40:58Speaker 1: is God, it's a path to victory. On Hawk Talk
- 41:04Speaker 1: after the three month they gotta treat Monday Night like
- 41:08Speaker 1: it's any other game. There's a lot of noise, a
- 41:10Speaker 1: lot of hype. I'm seeing all the promos in the ESPN,
- 41:14Speaker 1: the return of Russell Wilson all this stuff, It's gonna
- 41:17Speaker 1: be talked about all week long on ESPN everywhere. You
- 41:19Speaker 1: have a national spotlight on Monday night, everyone was looking
- 41:22Speaker 1: at you guys. But like Pete Carroll says, every game
- 41:25Speaker 1: is a championship game, and they treat it that way
- 41:27Speaker 1: and don't get sucked into the hype. Good things will
- 41:28Speaker 1: happen on Monday. They also gotta get after Russell Wilson man.
- 41:33Speaker 1: They gotta be aggressive on defense. Put him on his butt.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I need like four, five, six, seven sacks against Russell
- 41:39Speaker 1: Wilson Man. He's not the young spring chickeny Ones was
- 41:42Speaker 1: where He's gonna run everywhere. Still babble still can get
- 41:44Speaker 1: a dem But you gotta put him on his butt
- 41:47Speaker 1: and keep everything in front of you. Russell loves to
- 41:50Speaker 1: throw the ball deep, one of the prettiest deep balls
- 41:52Speaker 1: in the game. We got to witness it for ten years.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Keep it all in front of you, all right, to
- 41:56Speaker 1: rig Woollen, flit those hips, baby, let him get behind you,
- 41:59Speaker 1: Kwan Dre help him out, stay over the top. Do
- 42:01Speaker 1: whatever you can to eliminate what Russa's best. Just throw
- 42:05Speaker 1: the ball DP absolutely, and kind of going off the
- 42:07Speaker 1: theme that I said earlier, Gino, just go be you Dodd, Gino.
- 42:11Speaker 1: You are Gino, You're a good football player. You wanted
- 42:13Speaker 1: the starting job for a reason. The offense is now,
- 42:15Speaker 1: this is your offense. You're at the gear that got
- 42:17Speaker 1: the keys to the car. Just play within yourself. Everyone's
- 42:20Speaker 1: got faith in and you can get that done. And then,
- 42:22Speaker 1: like we just finished in our last matchup, run the ball,
- 42:25Speaker 1: be physical, you run the ball. Rosie Penny goes off
- 42:27Speaker 1: for one hundred and fifty some yards. Again, it's gonna
- 42:29Speaker 1: be a good day for the Seahawks. Serve Twelves, I
- 42:34Speaker 1: gotta go crazy, give him something to go crazy about.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Get it rocking over there, and littleman go one and oh,
- 42:40Speaker 1: that's what it's all about, cliche. One game at a time,
- 42:43Speaker 1: one snap at a time, one drive at a time.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I don't care. I'm gonna say it because that's really
- 42:46Speaker 1: what needs to happen. Let's get it done on Monday
- 42:49Speaker 1: night football Bump can't wait. I am so excited. We're
- 42:51Speaker 1: back with Hawk Talk podcasts all season long. Reminder you
- 42:54Speaker 1: can catch us everywhere Seahawks dot Com, Apple Podcast, Spotify,
- 42:58Speaker 1: Stitcher now Knew this year on Seriously x M as well,

- 43:12Speaker 1: A lot going on, but we will be back next
- 43:15Speaker 1: week after the Seahawks take on the Denver Broncos on
- 43:17Speaker 1: Monday Night Football Fox,
