Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Friday afternoon on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone,
- 0:03Craig Way, alongside the producer Cameron Parker, we're with you
- 0:06up until five o'clock this afternoon and getting you ready
- 0:08for a very big weekend the Texas Logorne and Georgia
- 0:12Bulldogs tomorrow night at Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, and then
- 0:16of course there's the F one Race, So you know,
- 0:22it's a big weekend. I take it you're pretty fired
- 0:25up about all this.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Excited for tomorrow's game for sure. I mean it's been
- 0:30a game Craig that when the special came out, everyone
- 0:34circled and a lot of people expected, including myself, Georgia
- 0:39to be the number one team and it's Texas, and
- 0:41Georgia is still a top five team. Of course, after
- 0:43they're almost come from behind victory against Alabama and then
- 0:48losing at the very end Ryan Williams and seeing touchdown
- 0:51and Carson Beck throwing the interception at the very end
- 0:54of the game. But it's going to be a fantastic game.
- 0:57It may end up being probably the loudest d KR
- 1:00has been since Alabama twenty twenty two. That was the
- 1:03lot of the scheme that I was at in attendance
- 1:06for was Alabama twenty twenty two. I had heard nothing
- 1:09like that before, and then I'm excited for F one.
- 1:12It went last year, good to go again on Sunday.
- 1:15So it's gonna be a fun weekend. Gonna be a
- 1:18busy weekend, but it's gonna be absolutely great. Weather in
- 1:22the mid eighties, sun will be out. It's a fantastic
- 1:25time of the year to be in Austin.
- 1:27Speaker 1: No doubt about it. All Right, I'm trying to remember,
- 1:31were you in school the last time Texas played Georgia
- 1:35when they played in the I was.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I was.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I was a junior at Texas. I actually watched the
- 1:41game at Hickory Tavern in North Carolina with my friends,
- 1:47who thought I was absolutely crazy because I was celebrating
- 1:51a Sugar Bowl victory, like we had just won the
- 1:52national championship. And like Sam Ellinger, I thought Texas back
- 1:59not the case, but it was, you know, because Texas
- 2:02hadn't had a facery like that since I don't know,
- 2:08I Nebraska and the Big Twelve championship, but I don't know.
- 2:12I don't know quite some time.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been been a little while. I didn't realize
- 2:16Hickory Tavern was a chain. I've been to the one
- 2:18in North Myrtle.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Beach really okay, yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It's pretty good and a good place to watch the game.
- 2:23But I didn't I didn't realize that that was a chain.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I didn't.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I didn't realize it either. I just thought that was
- 2:27a one off location.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yellow the panel outside of the red block lettering, it's
- 2:32red block letters.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, all right, wow, I didn't realize that.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Okay, I had to begged and the chains the channel
- 2:38for the Texas game, which was a little bit weird.
- 2:40Speaker 1: What else are they gonna have it all on New
- 2:42Year's Night? What else are they gonna have the on
- 2:47you know, old UFC reruns?
- 2:49Speaker 2: I mean, what do you think it was that? I
- 2:51think maybe the Hornets were playing New Year's Night something
- 2:54like that.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Okay, good that they changed it. Then. Well.
- 2:58Speaker 1: The reason why I brought that up up is this,
- 3:03of course, is the first matchup between Texas and Georgia
- 3:07since that Sugar Bowl, which the Long Orange won twenty
- 3:09eight twenty one. But the score really was not indicative.
- 3:11The Long Wruns dominated a lot of game. They were
- 3:13up twenty eight to seven out the fourth quarter. But
- 3:19the things that we remember most about that game two
- 3:22things I either think you tell me if I'm wrong.
- 3:23One is that the Long Wars, like I said, had
- 3:25some dominance. Sam Alllinger played really well. And the other
- 3:29thing was Bevo versus Ug, because people remember, somebody thought
- 3:34it was a smart idea to take Uga around Bevo.
- 3:37Anybody knows anything about animals knows that cattle and dogs
- 3:42do not like one another, especially cattle not liking dogs,
- 3:46and they have a s a definite size advantage. So
- 3:49if you've never seen it, you probably didn't live here
- 3:52in Austin at the time. If you've never seen you
- 3:54can google it Bevo versus Uga.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Or just go on Twitter or ESPN or the fleta
- 4:00and you'll see like seven different stories about it.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:03Speaker 2: There was an oral history of it on ESPN yesterday.
- 4:06I didn't read it, really, I I know that I
- 4:09know people. I knew the photographers and media members who
- 4:12are right there, and some ended up getting hit Bipevin.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and wanted to sue over stuff like that.
- 4:17Speaker 2: One of them, that's Sue, and one of them is
- 4:19no longer in the state.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah right, Okay, So the reason why I even bring
- 4:23this up, there will be no rematch. There'll be no sequel.
- 4:30Ugga eleven is not making the trip. His owner, Charles Siler,
- 4:37told the Austin American Statesman that travel logistics made the
- 4:41trip difficulty, said two and a half year old English bulldog.
- 4:44He also skipped Georgia's road game at Kentucky earlier this season.
- 4:49His quote was, that's a lot of wear and tear
- 4:51on the dog those games way out in the middle
- 4:54of the country. Because we're way out in the middle
- 4:56of the country, you understand, are hard for us to
- 4:58get to this dog that we have. Well, he's not new,
- 5:01but he's only two and a half and we haven't
- 5:03flown him yet and he hasn't been on a team
- 5:06bus yet. The dog usually misses a few games a year,
- 5:11and the seventeen hour drive did us in on this one.
- 5:14He said, we'll be watching on TV. It's sure to
- 5:17be a good game. The previous Ugga was the one
- 5:20Uga ten that had the run in with Bevo where
- 5:24he knocked over the police barricade and appeared to charge
- 5:26at him.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Neither mascot was hurting the situation.
- 5:28Speaker 1: The two did take a photo together later that day,
- 5:31ug A ten was known as Q. He passed away
- 5:35in January. I do find it interesting also that the
- 5:38owner did not provide this UGA's real name.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Isn't it Boom?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Is it? See? I don't know. I didn't realize that
- 5:46boom Okay chip.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Towers were an article for the Atlanta Journal Constitution in
- 5:52talk with Charles Charles Siler, the owner, and the quote
- 5:56from Siler hilarious that Ugga or Nonah Boom is really
- 6:01young and immature. And this is a direct quote, crazy
- 6:04as hell end quote.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Okay, all right, and he the bulldog.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Eric talking about an English bulldog named Boom Boom on
- 6:15the No Fly list.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Well, and the interesting thing is is that.
- 6:19Speaker 1: In this story that I have, the one from the Statesman,
- 6:22he never refers to the dog by name. It's always
- 6:25the dog. That's a lot of wear and tear on
- 6:28the dog, This dog that we have, while he's not new,
- 6:31blah blah blah, the dog usually misses a few games
- 6:33a year. I thought that was kind of odd that
- 6:38it would be.
- 6:39Speaker 2: That, So now correct me if I'm wrong, Craig, I
- 6:44don't really recall the opponent mascot really ever. Coming to
- 6:49dk R because I was thinking about it, and at
- 6:52first I thought, well, maybe it's just not allowed at Texas.
- 6:55But then, of course with this story, it definitely is
- 6:57a loud just opposing teams never have really chosen to
- 7:00bring ony. I can't remember ever seeing the live mascot
- 7:05ever at a Texas home game from the opposing.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Now let's let's do a little review here. First of all,
- 7:10when Mississippi State was here, I don't even do they
- 7:12have a bulldoye?
- 7:13Speaker 3: They do?
- 7:13Speaker 1: Okay, we do, right, Yeah, Well I didn't see him
- 7:17here and their band wasn't here, so okay, so there
- 7:21was that. I can promise you it's called Dax.
- 7:26Speaker 3: By the way, u.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Elman Road does not have a Warhawk, Pretty sure of that,
- 7:32Pretty sure. Utsa does not have a live road runner.
- 7:36And Colorado State, if they have a ram, they did
- 7:38not bring him to this. Okay, that's this year. So
- 7:41if you go back to Big twelve things you think
- 7:42about the teams. Kansas State did not bring a wildcat
- 7:45with them. They don't have one even up there on
- 7:48home games. I haven't seen one. Baylor no longer has
- 7:53that live bear mascot. You know they had that back
- 7:57in the day. When people thought it was okay to
- 8:00keep the bear in the cage up there and feeded
- 8:02Oreos and coke. Dr Pepper's excuse me, Waco, Dr Pepper,
- 8:06the Oreos and doctor Pepper, and it's dental work was
- 8:09so bad because I knew people that actually paid to
- 8:13have the bear's teeth redone for a veterinary dentist. So
- 8:20when they played Houston, I don't think they have Shasta
- 8:23any more there on the sidelines. I didn't see it
- 8:26the game when they played over there. And and in
- 8:28other words, to your point, they never brought him here,
- 8:32him bring the live mascots here. That was just one
- 8:35of those side pieces, was like, hey, let's do this.
- 8:37Is there going to be a rematch BiVO and Uggah.
- 8:40First of all, to say there's a rematch would be
- 8:44to imply that there was a match in the beginning.
- 8:46There wasn't a match. It was a chance encounter by
- 8:51August handlers having brought the dog too close to Beava
- 8:56where he charged at it. You know, there wasn't. It
- 8:59wasn't like the dog wanted the match or rematch or
- 9:03anything like that.
- 9:04Speaker 3: So weird. I don't think it's kind of strange.
- 9:08Speaker 1: About it, but no no ugo uga bevo rematch. All right,
- 9:13up next, we'll have some other college football news and
- 9:16we'll talk some Texas basketball. We'll hear from Rodney Terry,
- 9:19long worn men's coach as well. We'll continue on sports
- 9:21Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and the iHeartRadio app
