- 0:29what is going on everybody
- 0:31welcome to sunday sunday
- 0:34sunday night crossfit talk
- 0:38I'm your host, Clydesdale himself,
- 0:40Scott Schweitzer.
- 0:42Jamie will not be joining us tonight.
- 0:45Her son has graduated high school.
- 0:47They're holding an open
- 0:48house for him today, and it ran long,
- 0:50but we want her to spend
- 0:52time with family anyway.
- 0:53So super excited for her and
- 0:55her family and all of that.
- 0:58Carolyn is on her way.
- 1:00home right now she should be
- 1:02with us in the next two to
- 1:03three minutes uh so she'll
- 1:05jump on as well um
- 1:10So super stoked for her to get on.
- 1:12She was typing in our rundown,
- 1:14I'm guessing in the car on the way home.
- 1:17But she's out in California
- 1:18now for the summer.
- 1:20So probably doing some stuff
- 1:22with the Doodles and Lex
- 1:24and the family out there.
- 1:26So she'll be here in just a
- 1:27few short minutes.
- 1:29But so glad to see Larry and
- 1:31Craig and CrossFat already
- 1:33here and ready to go.
- 1:35Because we're going to have
- 1:36lively discussion tonight.
- 1:38with a lot of things in the
- 1:39CrossFit space.
- 1:40We're going to start with
- 1:41some MetFix stuff.
- 1:42We're going to talk a little bit to you,
- 1:43Claire, to me.
- 1:44Every week we play Factor Fiction.
- 1:46I'm going to read some statements.
- 1:48Carolyn's going to tell me
- 1:49Factor Fiction and why.
- 1:51And then we're going to go
- 1:52over equipment lists and
- 1:55movement standards.
- 1:56Are they needed?
- 1:57Do we need them?
- 1:59And then there's a lot of
- 2:00stuff that Carolyn has
- 2:03typed in that we'll get to,
- 2:05and I'll let her lead that
- 2:06part of the show.
- 2:08But before we get to that,
- 2:10a little catch up for this
- 2:13week is on Friday on my lunch show,
- 2:16I shared with you that my daughter,
- 2:18she's a photographer.
- 2:19She works for a company that
- 2:22does outdoorsy type stuff.
- 2:25And she is...
- 2:28She took a picture of they were out.
- 2:30Actually,
- 2:31they put a bear proof cooler in a
- 2:33bear preserve at
- 2:34Yellowstone National Park
- 2:36to see if they truly were
- 2:38bear proof or not.
- 2:39And I shared the picture.
- 2:40I'll share it again here.
- 2:46This was the result of
- 2:48testing if it was bear proof or not.
- 2:51And as you can plainly see,
- 2:54the bear was able to get
- 2:55into the cooler fairly easily,
- 2:59right down through the top.
- 3:00Did not pay attention to the
- 3:03locks on the side of the cooler,
- 3:05just went right down through the top.
- 3:08Some people asked me on Friday,
- 3:10what was in the cooler or
- 3:12did they rub something on the cooler?
- 3:15They did not rub anything on the cooler.
- 3:17They just had in the cooler a fish,
- 3:21some peanut butter,
- 3:23and some dog biscuits.
- 3:27So that's what was in the cooler.
- 3:29And the bear decided that he
- 3:31wanted them so bad,
- 3:33he would just rip the top off.
- 3:36So these coolers did not
- 3:37pass the test as bear proof,
- 3:40as you can see.
- 3:42But I wanted to fill in the
- 3:44gaps of that story from
- 3:46Friday as people were
- 3:49inquiring what was inside
- 3:50the cooler that made the
- 3:52bear want to rip it apart.
- 3:55And the answer was peanut butter, fish,
- 3:59and dog biscuits.
- 4:01So there you have it.
- 4:04answer to our story but I am
- 4:07I'm I cannot believe my
- 4:09daughter gets to do stuff
- 4:10like this and she gets to
- 4:13photograph this um
- 4:15videography this um it's so
- 4:19cool but anyway um what
- 4:24else is going on we've got
- 4:28it's been a wild weekend um
- 4:33Speaking of bears,
- 4:34Catching Up on the Bear
- 4:35just released last week.
- 4:37I am four episodes into the
- 4:39new season of The Bear.
- 4:41Much, much better than season three.
- 4:43I love seasons one and two.
- 4:46Season three was kind of a downer,
- 4:49but I'm really excited that
- 4:51season four has kind of
- 4:53brought it back full circle.
- 4:55I was told that season three
- 4:57was kind of a transition in the story,
- 5:00and I've really loved season four so far.
- 5:02So if you're a fan of the bear,
- 5:04be excited that it is
- 5:07coming back stronger and
- 5:09better than ever.
- 5:13Just trying to fill some
- 5:15time while my partner gets on.
- 5:19Another thing that I did,
- 5:21I saw a movie this week.
- 5:23My wife started it.
- 5:25It wouldn't be one that I picked.
- 5:26It was called Last Breath
- 5:28with Woody Harrelson.
- 5:30And it's about some deep sea
- 5:32divers fixing a pipeline
- 5:34underneath the North Sea.
- 5:37And some squalls made the
- 5:40boat dislodge from its...
- 5:43anchored spot and um and
- 5:47then all hell broke loose
- 5:50and they had to try to get
- 5:52the men up from the bottom
- 5:54of the sea it's called last
- 5:55breath I'll let you take
- 5:57that for what it is and uh
- 6:00it's on peacock right now
- 6:01for free if you wanted to
- 6:03check that one out um I
- 6:05give it a b a b movie
- 6:08We also had a CrossFit
- 6:09documentary released this weekend.
- 6:12Um, the, uh, Lucy's,
- 6:15the Lucy's had a road to
- 6:16the games come out on Friday.
- 6:19Um, I will tell you that I, I,
- 6:24I review these on my lunch
- 6:26show all the time.
- 6:27Um,
- 6:28this road to the games may have been
- 6:33the worst one yet.
- 6:34Um,
- 6:37I adore Lucy Campbell.
- 6:39Adore Lucy Campbell in so many ways.
- 6:43And her story is so, so doggone good.
- 6:46I think it's the best story
- 6:49in CrossFit today.
- 6:51Lucy McGonigal, I don't know much about.
- 6:53I'd love to know more about her.
- 6:56And this road to the games
- 6:58didn't give me anything for
- 7:01having an athlete that I
- 7:02completely adore and love her story.
- 7:05The comeback of two years on
- 7:07the sideline with surgery on her wrist.
- 7:11And then this up and coming
- 7:13young athlete that I want
- 7:14to know so much about.
- 7:16And I didn't get anything out of it.
- 7:19I didn't get anything.
- 7:20It was just, it just fell so far flat.
- 7:26Um, and I,
- 7:29I would actually give this one a D uh,
- 7:31my worst grade of the year
- 7:33of all the documentaries
- 7:35from all the different
- 7:36creators that are doing these, this style,
- 7:39it was, it was just bad, bad.
- 7:46Um,
- 7:48the road to the games um I
- 7:50like the australian one um
- 7:53was one of my favorites and
- 7:56um the one with hopper and
- 8:00pepper but I think that was
- 8:02just because of their
- 8:03personalities um and then
- 8:05the australian one was
- 8:06because of their
- 8:07personalities those were
- 8:09probably my two favorites
- 8:10of the season and I really
- 8:14like a lot of the people
- 8:15that have been in them and
- 8:16I just feel like they're
- 8:19they're just training
- 8:20montages at this point.
- 8:22They're not telling us any stories.
- 8:23They've lost all of the
- 8:25storytelling appeal.
- 8:28That's why we watched road to the games.
- 8:30We watched road to the games
- 8:32to learn about these people,
- 8:33to hear their stories
- 8:35before they were on the big stage.
- 8:37So we knew who to root for.
- 8:39We knew who to pull for.
- 8:42And we didn't get any of that in the,
- 8:44in these last ones,
- 8:45Jenny hits it right on the head.
- 8:48Um,
- 8:50you didn't get to see the Lucy's
- 8:52personalities at all in this none.
- 8:59It was, yeah.
- 9:00Worst one by far.
- 9:02Right now, Hiller's killing it.
- 9:04Hiller's videos are way better.
- 9:07They're the real road to the games.
- 9:13CrossFit,
- 9:13you just hand it over to Hiller and say,
- 9:15you take the name and you
- 9:17do road to the games.
- 9:19I think that's the hip and steel,
- 9:22the hopper.
- 9:26The Eric Afolo stuff,
- 9:28way better than anything
- 9:29that CrossFit's putting out
- 9:30with Road to the Games.
- 9:33When I see that he has put something up,
- 9:36I'm diving in quickly to watch it.
- 9:41He's just hitting home run after home run,
- 9:44and CrossFit's just
- 9:45starting to strike out left and right.
- 9:48And yeah, they need someone to...
- 9:54research the person, find out the story,
- 9:57dig into the story so we
- 9:58can learn about these athletes.
- 10:06What's up, Carolyn?
- 10:08Hello.
- 10:08Can you hear me?
- 10:09I can.
- 10:10Can you hear me?
- 10:11We can.
- 10:13Perfect.
- 10:14I was just tap dancing for a
- 10:15while while you were getting on.
- 10:19I was trying to listen to myself.
- 10:23Yeah,
- 10:25I was on my phone while you were
- 10:27talking about that.
- 10:28I just finished listening to
- 10:29it the other day.
- 10:30And, yeah, I felt the same thing.
- 10:33Like,
- 10:33we just didn't learn as much about them.
- 10:35Like,
- 10:35a little bit the competitiveness of
- 10:37Lucy and, like, in our family and stuff,
- 10:40but not as much, I guess,
- 10:43newer information on the athletes.
- 10:47Yeah.
- 10:48But, I mean, I still like watching it.
- 10:49Yeah.
- 10:49Just because I like CrossFit events.
- 10:54I just, I feel like I, I, I,
- 10:59I know that Ian Wittenberg did the old,
- 11:01some of the old ones.
- 11:02So what's,
- 11:03what's missing in the equation
- 11:05that we're not getting the,
- 11:06the stories that we used to get.
- 11:09So either find whatever that
- 11:12missing piece of the equation is,
- 11:14or just have someone else do it.
- 11:17Cause I don't,
- 11:19I need to go independent too.
- 11:24Like,
- 11:24the athletes need to be – I think the
- 11:27athletes also have to be –
- 11:31speaking about more things
- 11:33or opening up maybe in a
- 11:35different way and putting
- 11:36themselves out there and different,
- 11:38like just explaining
- 11:38different parts of their lives.
- 11:40Like if the,
- 11:41if the questions are not being
- 11:42asked maybe from the producers of it,
- 11:45you almost have to like
- 11:47take charge of where the
- 11:48conversations go so that
- 11:50you can promote yourself
- 11:51better as an athlete or the
- 11:52things that you want to
- 11:53highlight from your life.
- 11:55Cause they don't know coming
- 11:56in on everything about your background.
- 11:58So you have to,
- 12:00show it maybe a little bit more.
- 12:02And I think maybe some
- 12:03athletes are shy to talk
- 12:04about themselves and it's
- 12:07like a fine line between like,
- 12:12not bragging, but like,
- 12:13you still want to be able
- 12:14to like say things that
- 12:16you've done in your life so
- 12:18that people can get to know
- 12:19you and know where you come
- 12:21from and stuff like that.
- 12:24But if the questions aren't being asked,
- 12:26you have to do it a little bit.
- 12:28You have to guide the
- 12:29conversation and kind of
- 12:30read where to go from it.
- 12:33So I'm looking at it from a
- 12:34media perspective.
- 12:36When I first got into podcasting,
- 12:38and I remember distinctly
- 12:39like Carrie Pierce,
- 12:41I went to interview her and
- 12:44she was running down the
- 12:45normal answers of questions
- 12:47she always gets.
- 12:48And I had to say,
- 12:50I want to do this a little bit different.
- 12:51I just want to have a conversation.
- 12:53I want to learn about you.
- 12:55And like,
- 12:56I think athletes back then were
- 12:57so geared towards like,
- 12:59we're just going to get the
- 13:00straightforward questions.
- 13:03I'm ready with my answers.
- 13:05And I think that's what's
- 13:06starting to happen with the
- 13:07CrossFit content is we're
- 13:10just getting the same rundown.
- 13:13I think someone needs to be
- 13:15doing research on the athletes.
- 13:17Like Lucy Campbell being out
- 13:19for two years with the wrist issue.
- 13:22That should have been delved
- 13:23into a lot more.
- 13:25And then the win over Laura
- 13:30at Wadapalooza.
- 13:33It's been an exciting year for her.
- 13:35And we didn't get any of that.
- 13:39the only the only small
- 13:40little background is her
- 13:41swimming and they didn't
- 13:43dive it wasn't too long of
- 13:44a conversation on that like
- 13:45they didn't really dive
- 13:46deep into it we saw the the
- 13:48swim caps I would have
- 13:49wanted to learn a little
- 13:50bit more about like her
- 13:52swimming background and
- 13:54like I guess they talked a
- 13:55little bit about what she's
- 13:57won and stuff but I don't
- 13:58know maybe a little bit
- 13:59more there um if there's other sports
- 14:03Like Lucy, we didn't get as much.
- 14:06The one from... Yeah, McGonagall.
- 14:12Lucy M. McGonagall.
- 14:15Like we didn't dive as much, I don't think,
- 14:17into her athletic
- 14:18background or just a little
- 14:19bit competitiveness,
- 14:20but it would have been...
- 14:23And I don't know,
- 14:24maybe they don't have as
- 14:24much as certain athletes, right,
- 14:27for certain things.
- 14:28But there's...
- 14:29I think everyone has their
- 14:30unique stories that they
- 14:31should be able to share.
- 14:33It depends also if
- 14:34they're... If they
- 14:35currently live in their hometown.
- 14:37I know like...
- 14:39Like if, if I ever had a story on me,
- 14:41like if I was in my hometown,
- 14:42I'd be able to go to like
- 14:43my Taekwondo club and kind
- 14:45of show a little bit more
- 14:46of the roots that I had
- 14:48there and different things
- 14:49and how I used to train and
- 14:51where I used to do things
- 14:52like growing up.
- 14:53But if I'm not in that
- 14:55environment and I'm in a new place,
- 14:56maybe you have less,
- 14:58less things in that city to
- 14:59maybe show the people of your background.
- 15:03So I don't know if that's
- 15:04also a factor because
- 15:04people move as they age.
- 15:06Yeah.
- 15:10We can, yeah.
- 15:11That's normally a lunchtime thing.
- 15:13I just was killing some time.
- 15:15And also,
- 15:16Jamie was at the Pitt Fitness
- 15:17Ranch this weekend.
- 15:18We were going to do a little
- 15:19spot on what happened at
- 15:21the Pitt Fitness Ranch.
- 15:22But Carol and I were not
- 15:23there this weekend.
- 15:25So we are scrapping that until next week.
- 15:28So that takes a big chunk
- 15:29out of a rundown.
- 15:30So...
- 15:39uh larry here man I felt
- 15:43like I felt like it was all
- 15:47we need to do something to
- 15:49hype the games checking the
- 15:51box not genuine interest I
- 15:53felt like it was something
- 15:56crossfit felt they needed
- 15:57to do I'm trying to
- 15:58interpret this um to hype the games
- 16:04Yeah, like every week we're throwing it,
- 16:06what,
- 16:06is it Fridays that they're doing a
- 16:08release?
- 16:09Is that also the best day of
- 16:10the week to put a release
- 16:12for social media on a Friday?
- 16:14Because I feel like that's
- 16:15not necessarily the best.
- 16:17Wouldn't it be like, I don't know,
- 16:20I don't know as much.
- 16:22Well, Tuesdays are good.
- 16:27Thursdays are good.
- 16:29Fridays are not good.
- 16:33um so yeah I think they've
- 16:35been posting them like on
- 16:36fridays I thought maybe
- 16:38yeah they have that my
- 16:41stuff on fridays is the
- 16:42lowest of the week so I I
- 16:45would say that's probably
- 16:46not a good day um and if
- 16:50you look I think they say
- 16:51like youtube I mean I'm
- 16:52glad that they're doing something yeah
- 17:00I'm glad they're doing something.
- 17:02At least better than nothing.
- 17:04Tia hyped the games with a
- 17:05fifteen second video.
- 17:09And we actually got an
- 17:10answer in the fifteen second video.
- 17:14Which was awesome.
- 17:17Kudos to Tia.
- 17:19She's back.
- 17:22She is.
- 17:24Any thoughts about her?
- 17:25I never doubted her.
- 17:28I never thought she wasn't.
- 17:30Right.
- 17:32So I do have a question for
- 17:34you about her comeback.
- 17:37So my first question to you is,
- 17:39does her high rocks
- 17:40training really affect her?
- 17:43No,
- 17:44did you see how dominant she was at
- 17:45Torian?
- 17:46And, like, she didn't beat bad people.
- 17:50Like, Gracie Walton's great.
- 17:54Maddie Sturt's a great athlete,
- 17:55like a top ten last year
- 17:57and has been to the games multiple times.
- 17:59I'm missing someone right now.
- 18:02Gracie Walton, Maddie Sturt.
- 18:05A bunch of other ones that were, like,
- 18:07very good,
- 18:08and they weren't even in the
- 18:09same playing field.
- 18:11Like it's, she's so far ahead.
- 18:15Um, easy McDonald.
- 18:18Yeah.
- 18:18Yeah.
- 18:19Um, Emily DeRoy, um, few others,
- 18:23like they're not bad
- 18:25athletes by any means.
- 18:26And they just are not in the
- 18:27same play box right now.
- 18:31It's uh,
- 18:32that's without forty days of
- 18:33training for the games.
- 18:37Yeah,
- 18:37like I would have thought on the
- 18:38clean ladder,
- 18:39I was thinking maybe she'll
- 18:41lose a little bit of
- 18:42strength on the clean.
- 18:44And then she was looking great.
- 18:47They didn't look overly difficult at all.
- 18:49She's jogging between the stations.
- 18:50I'm like, oh man, this is over.
- 18:52If this is the strength
- 18:53event and she has no
- 18:55difficult time after
- 18:57running a lot of the year, I was like,
- 19:00okay, Tia of the old is still here.
- 19:05Second question.
- 19:06Did the illness at High
- 19:08Rocks show a chink in her armor?
- 19:13No,
- 19:13I think everyone can be sick at any
- 19:16point.
- 19:16She has been sick in eight years.
- 19:20No,
- 19:20just at a major competition that we
- 19:22know of.
- 19:23She could have been sick and
- 19:24still smoked her butts.
- 19:26I don't know.
- 19:30No, she's TSTO.
- 19:33No, no one is,
- 19:36no one's on our level right now.
- 19:44My last question to you is,
- 19:46was going to be, she,
- 19:48can she be ready in thirty six days?
- 19:50I guess my real question is,
- 19:52is she ready now?
- 19:53Yes.
- 19:55Tia's ready at any point.
- 19:58She's accumulated so much
- 19:59volume of CrossFit over the years.
- 20:02It's kind of like me as an aging athlete,
- 20:05right?
- 20:06Hold on.
- 20:06I will rephrase that.
- 20:07She is nothing like me.
- 20:08Okay.
- 20:09We are nothing alike.
- 20:10But as an aging athlete,
- 20:12I don't need to do as much
- 20:14as a volume as what I used
- 20:16to do because I've
- 20:17accumulated a certain
- 20:18amount of reps that I can, you know,
- 20:20I don't,
- 20:21I just need to touch up on things
- 20:22just to maintain it.
- 20:24Tia,
- 20:25a significantly fitter athlete than me,
- 20:29has a huge volume that
- 20:30she's done her whole career
- 20:32that she just needs to
- 20:33touch up on the rings a
- 20:34little bit and then muscle
- 20:36memory will be there.
- 20:38It's just the strength part
- 20:40that takes maybe a little
- 20:41bit more as she's lost
- 20:43maybe some muscle mass running a lot.
- 20:46but the technique has always
- 20:48been great for her so if
- 20:50the technique is dialed in
- 20:51and the gymnastics is
- 20:51probably easier right now
- 20:52for her even more so and
- 20:54she was always great at
- 20:55gymnastics like there's
- 20:57really not much besides raw
- 21:01strength that she needs to
- 21:02maybe get back and then
- 21:04just touch up on some of
- 21:05the skills again um lana
- 21:09makes a good point her
- 21:09event one will benefit from
- 21:11her high rocks training
- 21:13Absolutely.
- 21:15Absolutely.
- 21:16That's going to be a great event for her.
- 21:19Who would you say is the
- 21:20strongest woman going into
- 21:21the games right now?
- 21:24If you're talking about just pure strength,
- 21:27even if Tia was not doing high rocks,
- 21:30it would be Olivia Kerstetter.
- 21:36Oh, yeah.
- 21:37I forgot about that.
- 21:38Yeah,
- 21:38I was trying to think of the women's
- 21:39field right now.
- 21:40Let me grab the women's field.
- 21:42Even if Tia was training CrossFit all year,
- 21:45it would still be Olivia
- 21:46Kerstetter would be the
- 21:48strongest pure strength
- 21:50athlete at the Games.
- 21:53Yes.
- 21:54But if you're saying
- 21:55strongest in the field to win,
- 21:59I would say it's still Tia.
- 22:07I'm trying I don't I don't
- 22:09know where I saw the list
- 22:10of all the athletes was it
- 22:11barbell spin or the games
- 22:13yeah you can go to the
- 22:14leaderboard it's populated
- 22:15okay the game's leaderboard
- 22:18is populated I can I'm
- 22:23gonna because we're on this
- 22:24kind kind of topic I'm
- 22:26gonna hold metfix for a
- 22:28second I'm gonna go to the
- 22:29factor fiction because it's
- 22:31kind of along these lines
- 22:37And I'm going to start there.
- 22:37I thought a lot of the girls
- 22:38this year that have
- 22:40qualified to the games are
- 22:42not strength dominant athletes.
- 22:45They're fit.
- 22:46They're high skilled gym,
- 22:47not gymnasts in the field and fit.
- 22:50There's not,
- 22:52there's not a strength
- 22:54specialist really in the
- 22:55field besides Kerstetter and.
- 23:02gazan if she was healthy
- 23:04like upper body like like
- 23:06pressing for like bench
- 23:07press stuff like that like
- 23:08some um oh and the dark
- 23:11horse in there is ariel
- 23:14ariel went I would consider
- 23:16her a strength specialist
- 23:17like ariel is so well
- 23:18rounded as an athlete like
- 23:19her gymnastics her strength
- 23:21has gotten so good oh yeah
- 23:23she's a toe with tia at
- 23:25water palooza socal um
- 23:30She only lost to Tia by five pounds.
- 23:33A lot of good endurance.
- 23:34Yeah, maybe Abby Domet.
- 23:36Yeah, that's a good one.
- 23:39Abby Domet.
- 23:42Annika is very strong too.
- 23:44She is.
- 23:45Like on certain lifts, very, very strong.
- 23:47She's very strong.
- 23:48But I'd say like the
- 23:48strength specialist in the
- 23:49field is definitely Olivia.
- 23:51You're right.
- 23:53Yeah.
- 23:53Olivia by far wins any lift.
- 23:59at this point yeah you you
- 24:00would think so there's a
- 24:03couple of them that I don't
- 24:04know enough information on
- 24:06but yeah just looking at
- 24:08the field very very good
- 24:09gymnast very um a lot of
- 24:13good cardio people too in
- 24:14there yeah so let's do some
- 24:20factor fiction we'll play
- 24:21the game early and then uh
- 24:23and that'll get us moving
- 24:24on some stuff so my first
- 24:27factor fiction to you is
- 24:30I heard this as a bubble up somewhere,
- 24:32so I want to get your opinion.
- 24:34The reason Dave is taking on
- 24:36the programming this year
- 24:37and possibly documenting it
- 24:40as a book is because this
- 24:42is his last year as games programmer,
- 24:45regardless of the sale of CrossFit.
- 24:51What year is this for him?
- 24:52Because he had talked about
- 24:53something like twenty... Yeah,
- 24:55this is year nineteen.
- 24:58I feel like he might want to do one more.
- 25:02So I'm going to say fiction.
- 25:06I think it depends how this year goes.
- 25:08And yeah.
- 25:14So as a parent, I say it's possible fact.
- 25:20Oh, with the sale, definitely.
- 25:23Like you don't know what can happen.
- 25:24They can be like, okay,
- 25:25we need to revamp this new face here.
- 25:29I'm saying regardless of the sale,
- 25:31even if there was no sale fact,
- 25:33his kids are in high school.
- 25:35That is when like my focus
- 25:38had to shift completely onto my kid,
- 25:42right?
- 25:42High school is a very,
- 25:43very tough time for them
- 25:45and for you as a parent and
- 25:47the activity goes way up and his,
- 25:49that's where his kids are
- 25:50right now or his daughter
- 25:51is at least who's running
- 25:53cross country and doing all
- 25:55of those kinds of things.
- 25:57And I think that with
- 25:58everything that's gone on
- 25:59the past few seasons,
- 26:02at some point you've got to say, yeah,
- 26:05twenty would be nice,
- 26:06but is the juice worth the squeeze?
- 26:11And I just think that maybe
- 26:12he's done after this year.
- 26:14But again,
- 26:16I'm not going a hundred percent all in.
- 26:19Yes, this is his last season,
- 26:21but I do think it's a very
- 26:23strong possibility.
- 26:25Yeah, I mean,
- 26:26I think it's a strong possibility, too.
- 26:29So,
- 26:31I just thought that was a fun question.
- 26:35Factor fiction number two.
- 26:37And we've got four of them this week.
- 26:39Factor fiction.
- 26:40A healthy Alex Kazan could
- 26:42have given Tia a run for
- 26:43the title this year.
- 26:47Fiction.
- 26:48I think she podiums.
- 26:51I think Gazan needs more
- 26:52help from the field.
- 26:54I think she would,
- 26:55because even if Gazan beats
- 26:57Tia in an event, Tia gets second.
- 27:01She needs the like Emma Lawson, the, uh,
- 27:05Laura Horvath, Gabby, Emma Tall, uh,
- 27:11Freyova.
- 27:12Like you need, you just need that, those,
- 27:14that depth to go in.
- 27:17Tia's just too far ahead.
- 27:19Um,
- 27:21Gozan has been looking amazing.
- 27:23I think podium.
- 27:25Definitely beating Tia.
- 27:30No.
- 27:30That's Denise was the only
- 27:36one that went fact in the chat.
- 27:39Everybody else was.
- 27:40So Denise went fact and then nope.
- 27:43Fiction.
- 27:44No.
- 27:46And then CrossFit maker
- 27:47snatch one twenty five
- 27:48three times and Tia wins.
- 27:51Not quite that bad for CrossFit.
- 27:53That might be a little bit sarcastic.
- 27:55I think, I think, uh, make who snatch,
- 27:58make Gazan snatch.
- 28:02Power snatch.
- 28:03Like I've seen her snatch on
- 28:06her Instagram.
- 28:06I want to say like one ninety five.
- 28:09She always had good snatch sessions.
- 28:12She has the strength that
- 28:13just the odd execution,
- 28:15maybe under the pressure,
- 28:16but she has more than
- 28:17enough strength to snatch
- 28:19well above two hundred.
- 28:20And I'm sure she probably
- 28:21has hit that in training.
- 28:22We just haven't seen it.
- 28:23Yeah.
- 28:26But yeah, like on the event,
- 28:29you never know the answer.
- 28:31But I was just curious.
- 28:32Yeah.
- 28:33On the events that Gazan gets Tia.
- 28:38tia is still a top three top
- 28:41five at the worst
- 28:43And there may be one or two
- 28:45events where Alex doesn't get, you know,
- 28:48that top five.
- 28:49Like that first event, for instance,
- 28:51with all the running, Tia wins that.
- 28:53I don't see Alex in a top five,
- 28:56a healthy Alex in the top
- 28:57five in that event.
- 28:58Like there's, you know, there's Kringle,
- 29:00there's Hayley Adams.
- 29:01If, you know,
- 29:02if Hayley has her regular running,
- 29:05Lucy's a great runner.
- 29:06There's a bunch of them that
- 29:07are great runners.
- 29:09I would put ahead of
- 29:11Hattie's a great runner.
- 29:13you know, ahead of Alex there.
- 29:15And it's like,
- 29:16where is she making that up
- 29:17on other events at the games?
- 29:20It would just be too hard.
- 29:21I think maybe another year
- 29:25or two as Tia ages out, Alex could do it.
- 29:31Yeah.
- 29:33Yeah.
- 29:33I mean, I think,
- 29:35I think Alex is probably
- 29:36our next best bet to be a champion.
- 29:39It's just, when is that?
- 29:40When is it going to happen?
- 29:44All right.
- 29:45Yeah.
- 29:46There's a few of them.
- 29:47It would have been nice to
- 29:48see Gabby too healthy.
- 29:50I would have liked to have
- 29:51seen that battle of Alex versus Gabby.
- 29:53They're completely different athletes,
- 29:55but that would have been,
- 29:56that would have been a good one.
- 29:59Cross fat.
- 30:01If Laura's there,
- 30:01does Alex have a shot at getting closer?
- 30:06I think so.
- 30:08Closer.
- 30:09Yeah.
- 30:10closer yes but still not and
- 30:12emma lawson too if emma
- 30:13lawson's healthy like that
- 30:14but the thing is we can't
- 30:16if this person's healthy if
- 30:16this person's like it's
- 30:19yeah we could go down the
- 30:21list of of different things
- 30:22more opportunities for
- 30:24people to get between alex
- 30:25and tia and event the
- 30:26better her chances but
- 30:28they're not there
- 30:28absolutely yeah yeah
- 30:32because there there's many
- 30:34athletes that are missing
- 30:36from the women's field this year that
- 30:39I think are very,
- 30:40very fit and would be podium contenders,
- 30:45not winners, podium contenders.
- 30:46All right.
- 30:50Factor fiction.
- 30:50Number three,
- 30:53no less than eight men have
- 30:54the ability to win the
- 30:56CrossFit games this year.
- 30:59Fiction.
- 31:03Jeff Adler is going to win the games.
- 31:09And you feel so strongly about that,
- 31:12that nobody, none of the other,
- 31:16I don't think there's eight.
- 31:17No, no,
- 31:21I don't think that there's eight at most,
- 31:23maybe four to five at most.
- 31:29I think there's like eight amazing,
- 31:32amazing.
- 31:32Like I can, you know,
- 31:34Dallin, Austin, James, Roman, Ricky, Jeff,
- 31:41Jay.
- 31:42Like that's seven right there.
- 31:44Who am I missing?
- 31:46But like to really win it, I don't know.
- 31:51So I had to come up with the number.
- 31:54So I have Hopper.
- 31:57I have Madaris.
- 31:59I have Hatfield, Ricky, Roman, Dallin.
- 32:10um james greg adler and jay
- 32:14crouch yeah I mean there's
- 32:17there's definitely eight on
- 32:18paper that are elite in my
- 32:23mind there's still a small
- 32:25little tier within that
- 32:28okay I think I think clock
- 32:31yeah on those ones would be
- 32:34Adler, Spray, Pepper, Hadfield.
- 32:36I think Ricky could still do it.
- 32:41Roman's done.
- 32:42Roman's done clock.
- 32:46Stop saying Mertens.
- 32:47Colton is not going to win the games.
- 32:53Yeah, not going to win the games.
- 32:55Love him as an athlete.
- 32:57He's a home run hitter.
- 32:59He's closed the gap on so many things.
- 33:02I don't, I mean, just the first event,
- 33:05I don't think that that's a
- 33:08particularly great event for Colton.
- 33:16As much as he has to exert
- 33:18to overcome a lot of the
- 33:19hurdles in a longer event hurts him.
- 33:23The more days he has to go,
- 33:25the harder it is for him.
- 33:28And I love the man.
- 33:29He's one of my favorite
- 33:30people in the world.
- 33:33I will root for him and cheer for him.
- 33:35But it's too much to overcome,
- 33:39especially with this field.
- 33:41Because you have one bad
- 33:42event with this many good people,
- 33:45it's the reverse of what we
- 33:46were talking about with Tia.
- 33:48If you have one bad event,
- 33:50a lot of these guys are
- 33:51going to jump in between.
- 33:53There's too many good people to mess up.
- 33:57They're just too well-rounded.
- 33:58Someone like Jeff is so well-rounded.
- 34:01He's such a good runner.
- 34:02He's a great lifter.
- 34:04He is great at gymnastics.
- 34:06The only time that he loses
- 34:08points on the men's field
- 34:09is a very high power output event,
- 34:12like on an echo bike,
- 34:13where he just doesn't match
- 34:15some of the bigger males in the field.
- 34:20And then maybe an odd event that...
- 34:23is new to everyone where he
- 34:25just has to adapt.
- 34:26But other than that,
- 34:27he's so well-rounded to the
- 34:31point where I don't see him
- 34:37like losing that many points.
- 34:40to those athletes.
- 34:42So, but again, you saw WFP,
- 34:44he had a bad execution on
- 34:45the last event and things
- 34:46can happen or who knows an
- 34:48injury can be there going
- 34:50into the games and we don't
- 34:51know about it.
- 34:51Like someone can have a back
- 34:52injury or something.
- 34:54A six event weekend and a
- 34:57nine or ten event weekend
- 34:58are two different things.
- 34:59Totally.
- 35:01The games are different.
- 35:03If I'm picking the winner today,
- 35:04I'm picking Jeff.
- 35:05Me too.
- 35:07Right.
- 35:07Like that.
- 35:08I, and so I agree with you on that, but I,
- 35:11I just don't know if
- 35:12there's eight that like real, I mean, yes,
- 35:16everything always depends
- 35:17on the programming.
- 35:18Like, yes,
- 35:19but I don't know that I would
- 35:20have eight that like,
- 35:22I feel would win the games.
- 35:25Like regardless of me
- 35:27knowing the programming, that'd be like,
- 35:29yep, that person is winning.
- 35:32Like maybe five, five.
- 35:38So I'll say fiction for a little bit.
- 35:40That was maybe a little bit too many.
- 35:41Okay, I'm going fact on that one.
- 35:44I think I am in the minority by far.
- 35:48But those athletes you named
- 35:49are the ones I'm thinking of too.
- 35:50I forgot Justin.
- 35:51I don't know how I forgot Justin, but yeah,
- 35:52he'd be in the mix of the top eight.
- 35:57So this idea came from regular sports,
- 36:00not CrossFit.
- 36:02If you've watched the NBA playoffs at all,
- 36:05several athletes went down
- 36:06with Achilles tears.
- 36:08And they seem to be on the rise.
- 36:11So one of the analysts came
- 36:13up with a theory that too
- 36:16many kids are becoming
- 36:17one-sport athletes and
- 36:19overusing their muscles, tendons,
- 36:22and ligaments in the same
- 36:23manner over and over and over again.
- 36:26And by the time they become adults,
- 36:28it's weakened to the point
- 36:30where that's where we're
- 36:30getting ligament tears, Achilles, tendons,
- 36:35all of that stuff happening.
- 36:37factor fiction.
- 36:39Because too many kids are
- 36:40playing one sport their whole lives.
- 36:42It's causing these ligament
- 36:44tendon injuries later in life.
- 36:53I don't know if it's a cause.
- 36:55But it's only a factor maybe.
- 36:59I think.
- 37:02Sure, I'll say fact, but I think that
- 37:07People are not training correctly as well.
- 37:10I think like in the NBA,
- 37:11they're playing eighty eighty,
- 37:12eighty two games or something like that.
- 37:13And in the season, they need to be.
- 37:19More cautious,
- 37:20like the game is different
- 37:21than it used to be as well.
- 37:25I just think that with the
- 37:27speed of the game being
- 37:28much faster and a lot of sport,
- 37:30like a lot of sports are
- 37:31just faster now than they used to be.
- 37:33And there's more impact and there's.
- 37:36just,
- 37:37it's just a little bit different than
- 37:38the surfaces are different sometimes.
- 37:39I just think maybe there's
- 37:42gotta be stuff in the
- 37:43training that people aren't
- 37:44really getting.
- 37:46And yeah,
- 37:46a lot of people are specializing very,
- 37:48very early.
- 37:50I think I watched an interview,
- 37:51like an NBA interview where,
- 37:53you know people don't don't
- 37:54just play basketball
- 37:55anymore like they're just
- 37:55so repetitive with the
- 37:58coaching and you have to do
- 37:59this when this happens this
- 38:01versus just kind of being
- 38:02creative and kind of like
- 38:04that kairi type creativity
- 38:07that we're not seeing as
- 38:09much in the game as much
- 38:10anymore um I just think
- 38:13play sports is is good in
- 38:15general for your body like you
- 38:18you don't have as much overuse injuries.
- 38:21You develop way more skills
- 38:24that are transferable from
- 38:25one sport to the next,
- 38:26or you just learn from different coaches,
- 38:29different athletes.
- 38:31I think the more you can
- 38:32surround yourself with
- 38:32different types of athletes,
- 38:33the more you can kind of be
- 38:34a sponge and just grab
- 38:37things from everyone.
- 38:38Too many people are specializing early,
- 38:41way too early.
- 38:44I am an anti-one sport focus.
- 38:46Oh, me too.
- 38:47So any evidence that sends
- 38:50me down the path to fight against that,
- 38:52I am going to join that, whatever it is.
- 38:55So I have a very distinct bias.
- 38:57I was a four-sport athlete
- 38:59all the way through high school.
- 39:00It wasn't until I got to
- 39:01college that I had to focus on one sport.
- 39:04And I had a great childhood because of it.
- 39:08I was never going to be a
- 39:10pro football player or a
- 39:11pro baseball player,
- 39:12but I had fun playing those
- 39:13sports and I didn't need to
- 39:15travel all around the country.
- 39:18I could just play with my
- 39:19friends in the local town
- 39:20league and have a blast.
- 39:22Um,
- 39:25But I think it is a
- 39:27compelling argument that if
- 39:29you're doing a repetitive
- 39:30motion over and over and
- 39:32over and over and over again,
- 39:33eventually you're going to pay for that,
- 39:37whether it's in sports or whatever.
- 39:42Andrew,
- 39:42I was more talking about – so
- 39:44Andrew – who wrote?
- 39:46No, CrossFat wrote.
- 39:48Kyrie has a ton of lower body injuries.
- 39:51I didn't mean in terms of
- 39:52him doing multiple sports.
- 39:54I don't know his athletic background.
- 39:56I was more meaning of like I
- 39:58like the creativity.
- 39:59Like a lot of basketball
- 40:01players or just sport
- 40:03athletes right now that are
- 40:03specializing have so many
- 40:06coaches that are
- 40:06specializing like young –
- 40:09they're just going through
- 40:10camps and one-on-one with
- 40:11these coaches and they have to do this,
- 40:14this, this, and it's just very,
- 40:15very structured type of training regimen.
- 40:19And I think that allowing a
- 40:21little bit more creativity with the ball,
- 40:24like help develop the,
- 40:26Like,
- 40:26I think it was LeBron that was
- 40:27talking about it.
- 40:28Like,
- 40:28people don't just go to an outdoor
- 40:31place and just hoop for fun.
- 40:32And, like, you have those Ja Morants,
- 40:34those Kyrie that are just
- 40:36freestyle-type athletes
- 40:37sometimes when they're on the court.
- 40:39And I think that there's something about,
- 40:43you know, playing for fun,
- 40:46not just so structured all
- 40:47the time and just having fun.
- 40:49fun that just helps you
- 40:51develop as an athlete, other things.
- 40:53And then that was just,
- 40:54that was just a side point.
- 40:55But then the injury is just, yeah,
- 40:56playing a lot of sports is important.
- 40:59I have a lot of athletes at
- 41:00school that are just one
- 41:01sport athlete and you give
- 41:02them a ball in another sport.
- 41:03And I'm like, geez,
- 41:05like you are not good at this sport.
- 41:08Like to me,
- 41:09an athlete is someone that can
- 41:10play a lot of sports.
- 41:11Like it's,
- 41:12I'm always like of the opinion
- 41:13that an athlete, you can give them a ball,
- 41:16a racket, anything,
- 41:17and they're proficient with any of those.
- 41:20And when you're just so
- 41:21specialized in one sport at
- 41:23a certain age that I give
- 41:25you any type of a ball and
- 41:27you look so uncoordinated, I'm like,
- 41:29you're not very athletic.
- 41:32This is coming from the
- 41:33woman who played professional ice hockey,
- 41:37who was a junior Olympian in taekwondo,
- 41:40who was a national champion in soccer.
- 41:45And I think that actually
- 41:46Andrew makes a great point here,
- 41:48and he's picking up on
- 41:49other people's points as well.
- 41:51I think CrossFit is right.
- 41:52They compete way too much,
- 41:54which cuts into training
- 41:55and development time.
- 41:57I think that's probably even
- 41:59a bigger culprit to it all.
- 42:02is we have these kids
- 42:04traveling all over the country now,
- 42:06competing in a sport,
- 42:08and they don't get practice time.
- 42:09They don't get development time.
- 42:11They're not swinging correctly.
- 42:12They're not throwing correctly.
- 42:14How many pitchers come into
- 42:15the major leagues and
- 42:16within the first three
- 42:17years are having Tommy John surgery?
- 42:20Because they're not throwing efficiently.
- 42:26And just listening to your body.
- 42:29Right.
- 42:29I think you have to listen to your body.
- 42:32Like acute injuries are going to happen,
- 42:34especially in contact
- 42:35sports or something like that,
- 42:36where something happens and, you know,
- 42:40someone falls on your knee
- 42:42and your ACL or your MCL goes like that.
- 42:45That'll happen.
- 42:46But a lot of the like wear
- 42:49and tear happens.
- 42:51like it's just a lot of
- 42:52repetition and maybe just
- 42:53not strengthening other
- 42:55parts of your body or
- 42:56balancing out or just
- 42:57listening and taking rest days.
- 42:59And, you know, in basketball right now,
- 43:04like it's frowned upon right now,
- 43:06you know,
- 43:06the people that will sit out games,
- 43:08especially as ticket
- 43:08holders want to go and
- 43:09watch their favorite athletes play.
- 43:11And maybe,
- 43:12maybe as we start seeing injuries go up,
- 43:15the league can go start
- 43:16going down in games so that athletes can,
- 43:19can be there a little bit
- 43:20more like playing because I don't know,
- 43:23maybe it's too much for how
- 43:25fast the game is now,
- 43:26but it was more physical back then.
- 43:28Like there's a lot more threes.
- 43:29I don't know.
- 43:30I don't know what the answer is.
- 43:31If it's just the lack of training.
- 43:33I mean,
- 43:33I look at a lot of the way that
- 43:34athletes train and I'm like,
- 43:36they don't move very well
- 43:36in the weight room.
- 43:38And a lot of the trainers
- 43:39suck like Olympic athletes
- 43:42that are getting trained,
- 43:43can't move properly.
- 43:44And I'm like looking at their training and,
- 43:46and I'm like,
- 43:48They're not squatting very well.
- 43:50And then you wonder why they
- 43:50have knee problems and they
- 43:52do a quarter squat like
- 43:54their entire life.
- 43:54They never squat to death.
- 43:58Yeah,
- 43:58I think like a lot of them don't have
- 44:00good trainers, to be honest.
- 44:03Denise, some of my teammates,
- 44:05when they came to my like
- 44:06CrossFit Coliseum,
- 44:07like my not my my like the
- 44:10gym that I train at.
- 44:13like we helped move them and
- 44:14I was like man like if they
- 44:16if they just learn to move
- 44:17better I bet that they
- 44:19would get injured a lot
- 44:20less just strengthening you
- 44:23know different muscles that
- 44:24they're not working on but
- 44:25I don't go in like full
- 44:26range of motion and there's
- 44:28a time and place to do kind
- 44:29of like quarter squats and
- 44:30to develop power and speed
- 44:32and certain things but if you never ever
- 44:36you know, sit in the bottom of a squat?
- 44:38And how many times do you
- 44:39have to change directions
- 44:39and your body is going to
- 44:41be in that position under
- 44:43high stress and load as you
- 44:44change directions?
- 44:45Like you have to be able to
- 44:46train that way.
- 44:47And they're just,
- 44:48I think there's a lot of
- 44:49bad trainers out there.
- 44:51I think some of the best
- 44:51ones are at CrossFit gyms, to be honest.
- 44:54Denise wants to know how
- 44:55many times did you get to
- 44:57play stickball or kickball in the street?
- 45:02Often.
- 45:03Did I play growing up?
- 45:06like the one street that's
- 45:08beside me we used to go and
- 45:10play uh street hockey all
- 45:11the time like you put the
- 45:13nets when the cars go you
- 45:14move the net so that the
- 45:15cars can go it's either
- 45:17that or basketball on the
- 45:18street just like a scene
- 45:20out of ways all the time
- 45:24move the nets and then you
- 45:25don't park any any nice
- 45:26looking cars by by the by
- 45:28the the hockey net so you
- 45:30don't you don't hit them
- 45:33CrossFit wants to know, yeah, I mean,
- 45:35if Canadians didn't play so much hockey,
- 45:36maybe they'd win a cup.
- 45:40Someone's sitting below the belt.
- 45:41No comment there.
- 45:46All right.
- 45:47Well, that was a good discussion.
- 45:50I loved playing all sports
- 45:52when I was a kid.
- 45:53And because I wasn't
- 45:55traveling or doing all those other things,
- 45:57I got to go play kickball
- 45:59in my friend's side yard or
- 46:02softball or baseball or whatever.
- 46:05We were always outside doing something.
- 46:09um which I love like me like
- 46:11I played so many like I was
- 46:13still playing three sports
- 46:14all the way until my first
- 46:15crossfit games I was still
- 46:16playing soccer hockey and
- 46:18crossfit but like I was
- 46:21getting mad at myself
- 46:21because I'm like man I you
- 46:22know I stopped playing
- 46:23sports I didn't want to get
- 46:24injured for crossfit and
- 46:25then I continued to play
- 46:27hockey until two years ago
- 46:28but it's almost like once
- 46:30you stop you have this fear
- 46:31of getting injured
- 46:33playing other sports.
- 46:34And I never had that fear.
- 46:36Like I was playing hockey
- 46:37and I never feared that I
- 46:38was going to get injured
- 46:38and I couldn't compete in CrossFit.
- 46:40But now that I don't do any
- 46:42other sport and I've just CrossFitted,
- 46:44I guess, for the past year,
- 46:46it's almost like I get
- 46:47scared to do another sport.
- 46:48And I hate that I have that
- 46:49mentality because I never
- 46:51had that my entire life.
- 46:54And I think people that don't play sports,
- 46:55like maybe, I don't know,
- 46:56maybe they have that, oh,
- 46:57I can't play this because I have to,
- 47:00I can't get injured for this and this.
- 47:02And I want to get back to
- 47:03playing more sports because
- 47:05I think when you play more sports,
- 47:07like you play more freely.
- 47:08If you don't play,
- 47:09you almost are hesitant and
- 47:11you're holding back.
- 47:12And when you hold back, that's worse.
- 47:14That's when you do get injured.
- 47:16So I think that stopping for me,
- 47:19is not good like I want it I
- 47:20don't want to stop for too
- 47:21long like I got to get back
- 47:22to playing sports because
- 47:24like yeah it's just it's a
- 47:25weird feeling that I've
- 47:26never had before where it's
- 47:28like my some of my students
- 47:29sometimes will be like oh
- 47:30play and like I don't play
- 47:31with my students ever
- 47:32because it's not my time to
- 47:33play it's like I want them
- 47:34to be active but like I
- 47:36have this fear of like oh
- 47:37no what if I get injured
- 47:39like I've never had that fear before
- 47:41So I got to get out of my head.
- 47:46Because, you know,
- 47:46I gained a lot of weight
- 47:48and stopped doing everything.
- 47:49And then I lost two hundred
- 47:51fifty pounds and I played
- 47:52in a men's flag football
- 47:53league after that.
- 47:55And I played in a softball
- 47:56league and I was having the
- 47:57time of my life.
- 47:58I'm out there playing flag
- 47:59football at fifty years old
- 48:01and there are twenty year
- 48:03olds playing against me and
- 48:05I am having a ball, you know,
- 48:07and we made the playoffs
- 48:08like every year we played.
- 48:10It was so much fun.
- 48:12And it's so,
- 48:13you get back in those
- 48:14situations and you're playing every week.
- 48:16I would throw my body into
- 48:17situations no
- 48:18fifty-year-old should have been doing.
- 48:20Like, but you just,
- 48:21you get back into that
- 48:22athlete mode and you just
- 48:24do whatever it takes.
- 48:25Right?
- 48:26Competitiveness comes out.
- 48:29Now, Tuesday mornings,
- 48:30getting out of bed was not
- 48:31as easy as it was thirty years.
- 48:34But, yeah.
- 48:37Yeah, I just miss, I miss playing.
- 48:38I miss playing sports.
- 48:39I need to play.
- 48:40I need to play more things again.
- 48:44All right,
- 48:44so we're done with Fact or Fiction.
- 48:45I know you pumped some questions in.
- 48:48We'll do those in a couple minutes.
- 48:50But let's talk about Metfix.
- 48:52We had Pete Shaw on this
- 48:53week and had a nice
- 48:56over-hour conversation with him.
- 48:58There's all this hubbub
- 49:00going around in the space
- 49:02that there's this Metfix thing that,
- 49:05what is it?
- 49:06You have the Hillers of the
- 49:08world upset that they're
- 49:10not really saying who they
- 49:11are or what they're doing.
- 49:13And I was having a hard time
- 49:14this week just figuring out what to ask,
- 49:18what to do, what to say.
- 49:21And at the end of the day,
- 49:23after talking to Pete,
- 49:25and even after the
- 49:26conversation went off the air,
- 49:29I think they're just trying
- 49:30to be the next component for CrossFit.
- 49:33Because my last question to
- 49:34him in the interview was,
- 49:36do you see a future where
- 49:38CrossFit and Metfix can work together?
- 49:41And he said, absolutely.
- 49:45Did you get a chance to
- 49:47listen and do you have any?
- 49:49I listened to the whole thing.
- 49:52There is two points that I
- 49:53liked that he made that I was like, okay.
- 49:57When he talked about their
- 49:59two day seminars, all basically like when,
- 50:02when we think about our
- 50:03level one or level two, for instance,
- 50:05we're talking about movement, you know,
- 50:07movement standards.
- 50:08We're talking about points of performance,
- 50:09all of that, or how to coach and,
- 50:12like efficiently and stuff like that.
- 50:14And their two day seminar is
- 50:16a lot more based on nutrition stuff.
- 50:18And then maybe it's one
- 50:20little piece is on movement.
- 50:23And I was like, okay,
- 50:24that's a different type of seminar.
- 50:27That would be cool.
- 50:28And then the other thing is, um,
- 50:30kind of comparing it to like
- 50:32cross it's more like the
- 50:33undergrad part and then
- 50:35you're looking to continue
- 50:37education you're not going
- 50:38to forget about the
- 50:41crossfit foundation or your
- 50:42your first degree that you
- 50:44had you're just building
- 50:45upon it in terms of
- 50:46nutrition and going a step further and um
- 50:51for that.
- 50:51Is there anything different
- 50:52that they're preaching?
- 50:55No,
- 50:55it's the same message that CrossFit is
- 50:57doing.
- 50:58They just might be putting more emphasis,
- 51:00like the way that I like
- 51:01understood is they're
- 51:02putting just more emphasis
- 51:03on the nutrition factors
- 51:06with the CrossFit versus, um,
- 51:09a lot more affiliates focus
- 51:11more on the physical part of, you know,
- 51:15doing CrossFit versus my dog versus, um,
- 51:21nutrition part so and
- 51:27hillary's here with a with
- 51:29a comment so I'll pull that
- 51:30up in a second um I I think
- 51:35my one issue is is it's all
- 51:37based on this flexible what
- 51:40do you call it flexible
- 51:42metabolic piece and like
- 51:47I haven't found enough
- 51:48research on that to know is
- 51:50that like a solid enough
- 51:52principle to be a one
- 51:57answer to nutrition after
- 52:00all the CrossFit stuff.
- 52:03And that seems to be the big differential.
- 52:06And so I...
- 52:08don't know enough about that
- 52:10and I tried to research it
- 52:11as much as I could maybe
- 52:13I'm just not smart science
- 52:14was not my my best subject
- 52:17but I was trying to figure
- 52:18it out when I look at it I
- 52:22look at it more like I
- 52:23don't know I mean it's
- 52:25crossfit like they're their
- 52:27workout of the day I mean
- 52:28they're still doing all the
- 52:29same workouts that we
- 52:30they're taking hero
- 52:31workouts or benchmark
- 52:32workouts from the crossfit community um
- 52:35It should almost be like a seminar,
- 52:37like an extra course that
- 52:38people could take,
- 52:40like a continuing education
- 52:42credits for a little bit
- 52:43more on nutrition.
- 52:45Like it's...
- 52:46Like they have a one day
- 52:48nutrition program that Jocelyn does.
- 52:54I think she lives in Calgary.
- 52:55She's like a level four
- 52:57seminar staff member.
- 53:00And she's done like a one day course.
- 53:02I'm not sure how similar are
- 53:04the topics that she does.
- 53:06But to me,
- 53:08like their seminar should just
- 53:09be like an extra credit thing.
- 53:12Like, I don't know why...
- 53:16they need affiliates for
- 53:17metfix because it's the
- 53:18same message that we have
- 53:20it's just promoting more
- 53:22nutrition and maybe it's
- 53:23just a course that they
- 53:24could be going at different
- 53:25affiliates to try to get
- 53:27people to be talking more
- 53:29about nutrition and not
- 53:30just the lot of the day and
- 53:33how to how to include it
- 53:35within your hour class um
- 53:37you know whether it's two
- 53:38or three minutes that you talk
- 53:40about nutrition on your hour
- 53:43um because it's just not
- 53:45much different there and
- 53:48like andrew says here the
- 53:49next component of crossfit
- 53:50is still crossfit that's
- 53:52the thing when greg says
- 53:53his message hasn't changed
- 53:54in twenty years six months
- 53:56ago it shows its true colors
- 53:59Then my question to you, Hillary,
- 54:01and because I'm not an insider, I don't,
- 54:03I don't have the
- 54:04opportunity to talk to Greg
- 54:05or his people very often.
- 54:08And that is that why is his face on it?
- 54:11Why is he allowing his
- 54:13message and his face to be
- 54:15such a large part of med fix?
- 54:17Because that's, what's making it very,
- 54:19very confusing.
- 54:21I think for the laying
- 54:23person in the space.
- 54:26And that's where I'm really
- 54:28like torn apart,
- 54:29trying to figure this out on my own.
- 54:32And that's where my
- 54:33frustration comes from
- 54:35because I can see both sides.
- 54:36I asked, I mean,
- 54:37my first question to Pete
- 54:38is everybody can look at med fix and say,
- 54:42I've seen this all in the level one.
- 54:46Or, or in across the journal articles or,
- 54:49um, stuff, stuff that we've,
- 54:51we've seen before in the space anyways.
- 54:54I don't know if it's all in the level one.
- 54:56I wouldn't say it's all in the level one,
- 54:57but like.
- 55:00Right.
- 55:00But I was trying to make a
- 55:01point that it's all been
- 55:03written down before.
- 55:05Yeah, absolutely.
- 55:09Yeah, it's.
- 55:12I'm not sure.
- 55:14I like what they're doing.
- 55:15I'll rephrase that.
- 55:19I like the message about
- 55:21working on nutrition and
- 55:23not just the WOD of the day
- 55:26because WOD is an hour of your day,
- 55:28but nutrition will take up
- 55:30also other parts of your day.
- 55:31And I think that we should
- 55:33be talking more about
- 55:33nutrition in gyms and
- 55:35promoting healthier lifestyle in general.
- 55:40So I do like that.
- 55:44I can see that some people
- 55:46may be drawn to Metfix
- 55:48because of the brand of
- 55:50CrossFit maybe has
- 55:53diminished over the years
- 55:55with some controversial
- 55:58stuff that they want to
- 55:59start something new that
- 56:02doesn't have the word CrossFit in it,
- 56:03but it's the same message.
- 56:05I can see that people could
- 56:06be wanting that.
- 56:08But everyone knows what CrossFit is.
- 56:10Every single person knows
- 56:11what CrossFit is.
- 56:14People that don't do CrossFit,
- 56:16they've heard the name.
- 56:18And if you send med fix to
- 56:19anyone on the street,
- 56:21they have no idea what that is.
- 56:23So I still think that there
- 56:25should be space for both of
- 56:27them to work together
- 56:29under basically the CrossFit umbrella,
- 56:31but pushing a little bit
- 56:33more the nutrition part.
- 56:35And I get that Pete said,
- 56:37and I like Pete a lot,
- 56:40that no one's kind of
- 56:41pushing it at the top level from CrossFit,
- 56:46which is why that they've
- 56:47kind of gone their separate way.
- 56:50But I feel like we need to
- 56:51be continuing to push it.
- 56:53But I mean,
- 56:55if any other people were doing this,
- 56:57like CrossFit would be
- 56:58suing them because they're
- 56:59doing the same thing as them.
- 57:02Yeah.
- 57:03Well,
- 57:03I don't know if the new CrossFit
- 57:04would be suing.
- 57:06No,
- 57:08because it's content that he's written
- 57:10and done.
- 57:11So it's a touchy.
- 57:15Yeah.
- 57:15It's just like, I don't know.
- 57:23Okay, so Andrew has a couple things.
- 57:25Have you seen a single piece
- 57:26of content posted on the
- 57:29Metfix's page that isn't
- 57:30stripped from Savant's podcast?
- 57:32I have not because I looked a lot.
- 57:36Andrew also says they want
- 57:38to work with CrossFit,
- 57:39be a derivative of it to
- 57:40help in the future.
- 57:43Guys, Greg said he has nothing new.
- 57:47But I think they could do
- 57:48their two day seminar.
- 57:49And that's a course like
- 57:50that's that's a course that
- 57:51people could take to talk
- 57:53because they they don't
- 57:54talk to too much on in
- 57:56depth about the nutrition
- 57:57part in the level one or level two.
- 58:00I think it should just be a
- 58:01course like I don't know,
- 58:02they could call it methods
- 58:03or whatever they want to call it.
- 58:04But it's part of one of the
- 58:06courses that pop up and
- 58:07they can travel to
- 58:08different places and try to.
- 58:11preach more of the nutrition
- 58:12and people can can buy you
- 58:15know or pay for that
- 58:15seminar that weekend to to
- 58:19you know help their lives
- 58:19get healthier and then and
- 58:21then share that message but
- 58:22it's the same message from
- 58:24before it's just putting it
- 58:25all together into a weekend
- 58:27seminar for people so
- 58:29here's where I am on like
- 58:30the hill or side if you go
- 58:32to their website it is very
- 58:33much like the crossfit website
- 58:35It is a workout of the day.
- 58:37They don't even hide the
- 58:38fact that it is a CrossFit
- 58:39workout of the day.
- 58:41In fact,
- 58:41they're using even named workouts.
- 58:43Yeah, and it's like .com workouts.
- 58:46Right.
- 58:46I think it is the .com.
- 58:50I don't think it's the same day, same,
- 58:52but it would not surprise
- 58:54me if they're not just
- 58:55stripping it from the workout of the day.
- 59:00So, yeah.
- 59:05I like the recipes that they're doing.
- 59:08I like that stuff.
- 59:09I just feel like there
- 59:12should be a way to work
- 59:14together without it being separate.
- 59:17People are going to try to make money.
- 59:18I think the biggest part
- 59:22that everybody is
- 59:23struggling with is that
- 59:25they are not saying we're
- 59:26competing with CrossFit and
- 59:28they're not saying we're an
- 59:29accessory to CrossFit.
- 59:31They're just kind of hanging
- 59:32out in the middle.
- 59:33And they are either one or the other.
- 59:37Because there's too much
- 59:40CrossFit in it to be
- 59:42anything other than either
- 59:44a competitor or an accessory.
- 59:50But... So... We'll move on from that.
- 59:58Um...
- 1:00:07okay yeah I this I think
- 1:00:09would go could go on
- 1:00:10forever and I'm maybe I'll
- 1:00:12do a separate piece on this
- 1:00:13but yeah um this week uh
- 1:00:20brent fukowski made two
- 1:00:21appearances on two different podcasts um
- 1:00:27I think it was sold as,
- 1:00:30especially the Mayhem one,
- 1:00:31that he was going to talk
- 1:00:32about the demands.
- 1:00:33I don't think he really
- 1:00:34talked about the demands
- 1:00:36other than he felt like no
- 1:00:37matter what decision the
- 1:00:38PFA made in those demands,
- 1:00:41they were going to be criticized for them,
- 1:00:43whatever they chose to do.
- 1:00:46But I thought what was more
- 1:00:47important coming out of
- 1:00:48that was that they have
- 1:00:49come up with or are in the
- 1:00:51process of coming up with a
- 1:00:53standard movement list
- 1:00:56um with descriptions and a
- 1:00:58database for that and for
- 1:01:00other competitions to use
- 1:01:02not as a mandate but as a
- 1:01:04resource for them to tap
- 1:01:06into I thought that I think
- 1:01:09that if the pfa are truly
- 1:01:11trying to do something that
- 1:01:13is a great place to to make
- 1:01:15some efforts and some
- 1:01:16headway and I wanted to get
- 1:01:18your thoughts on that
- 1:01:21I like the idea that when he
- 1:01:23talked about like, you know,
- 1:01:24if you want to run a competition,
- 1:01:26like you want to host your
- 1:01:27own competition and you're
- 1:01:29looking for movement
- 1:01:31standards written down, where do you go?
- 1:01:34CrossFit doesn't have it written down.
- 1:01:36They might have some written
- 1:01:38down for the open or
- 1:01:39quarterfinal workouts.
- 1:01:41But other than that,
- 1:01:42you have to go to the
- 1:01:42competition corner of
- 1:01:43another competition to
- 1:01:45maybe look at the standards.
- 1:01:46So having some sort of
- 1:01:47centralized location would
- 1:01:48be nice to have.
- 1:01:50If PFA wants to do it
- 1:01:52because CrossFit doesn't want to do it,
- 1:01:53sure.
- 1:01:54And then I think that should
- 1:01:55be also shared on the CrossFit website,
- 1:01:56like on the CrossFit website.
- 1:01:58either the .com or the games
- 1:02:00version of the website so
- 1:02:02that people can go there and at least get
- 1:02:05you know,
- 1:02:06movement standards in general
- 1:02:07that people can use for
- 1:02:09their own competition.
- 1:02:10And then you link them to
- 1:02:12whatever part of the
- 1:02:14website that has the
- 1:02:15movements that you want to
- 1:02:16integrate in your, in your competition.
- 1:02:18Like I liked the idea.
- 1:02:19I watched the one video that
- 1:02:20he made like on the sandbag cleans.
- 1:02:22And I think it was also nice
- 1:02:24as like a judge could also
- 1:02:26be looking at those and be like, Oh,
- 1:02:27okay.
- 1:02:27I see.
- 1:02:28you know the bent knees on
- 1:02:29the cleans that it's not
- 1:02:30quite done or the bag is a
- 1:02:32little bit in front because
- 1:02:35as like he was kind of
- 1:02:36showing those you know
- 1:02:38grayish reps um or even
- 1:02:41talking about like the
- 1:02:42hands can like if you're
- 1:02:43doing a clean touch and go
- 1:02:44with the sandbag the hands
- 1:02:46can touch the ground and
- 1:02:47not the sandbag because
- 1:02:48like you'll get called no
- 1:02:49reps if your hand
- 1:02:51depending on the competition,
- 1:02:52like sometimes the bag
- 1:02:53needs to touch the ground
- 1:02:54and you can't really do
- 1:02:55touching those as much.
- 1:02:56So just having a place that has that,
- 1:02:59I think facilitates a lot
- 1:03:00of things for event
- 1:03:01organizers and just the
- 1:03:02athletes in general to know
- 1:03:05what they're doing.
- 1:03:05There's still room.
- 1:03:06I think that people could
- 1:03:07tweak things up if they
- 1:03:08want to have a newer
- 1:03:09movement and they can
- 1:03:10create their own standard there.
- 1:03:12But in general,
- 1:03:12there should be some sort
- 1:03:14of place that people can go
- 1:03:16to that has standards.
- 1:03:17And we just don't really
- 1:03:18have that right now.
- 1:03:19So I like that idea.
- 1:03:22Yeah, and I like the fact that he was like,
- 1:03:25the wall ball has one
- 1:03:27workout description.
- 1:03:28Like, it can only be one thing.
- 1:03:30But like a handstand push-up,
- 1:03:31depending on if it's online
- 1:03:33or if it's in person,
- 1:03:34it could have a couple
- 1:03:35different variations that
- 1:03:37could be used for that competition.
- 1:03:42And I thought that was a good explanation.
- 1:03:43He did that on the TTT
- 1:03:45podcast that came out today.
- 1:03:49Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:51because there are those
- 1:03:53exceptions where something
- 1:03:54like the handstand pushup
- 1:03:56has to be different and
- 1:03:57measured and differently in
- 1:03:59an online competition than
- 1:04:00it does in person.
- 1:04:03And it's not saying that
- 1:04:04every competition needs to
- 1:04:06do those standards,
- 1:04:07but I think still having
- 1:04:08some sort of standards
- 1:04:10written out somewhere with
- 1:04:11videos just helps people.
- 1:04:16And it just makes it a
- 1:04:17little bit more smooth,
- 1:04:19like just smoother for, for competitions.
- 1:04:23I also liked the, you know, best practices,
- 1:04:27right?
- 1:04:27You know, we've done, he talked about,
- 1:04:29I don't know if it was on
- 1:04:30the mayhem or on the TTT one.
- 1:04:32where he talked about the
- 1:04:34change that I think it was
- 1:04:35on the Mayhem one,
- 1:04:37the rope and the legless rope climb.
- 1:04:39And, you know,
- 1:04:40when there was a big knot
- 1:04:42not going to there for the
- 1:04:42legless and adjusting or hot barbells,
- 1:04:46like there's some things
- 1:04:47that like we just know as athletes,
- 1:04:49as you know, you're outside barbells,
- 1:04:52this, if it's raining, you know,
- 1:04:54you don't do these movements,
- 1:04:55but having like best
- 1:04:56practices in general of
- 1:04:59heat or indoor and,
- 1:05:02measurement things could be
- 1:05:03also very useful safety
- 1:05:05wise for um for different
- 1:05:08events like even if it was
- 1:05:11like if it's raining and
- 1:05:12you have like like these
- 1:05:14are options that you could do or
- 1:05:18Yeah.
- 1:05:20Yeah.
- 1:05:21I think they talked about
- 1:05:22like the strict chest to
- 1:05:24bar pull up would be a
- 1:05:25different standard in the rain.
- 1:05:29And they definitely did talk
- 1:05:30about what happened at
- 1:05:31Mayhem with the rope climb
- 1:05:33and the knot being too big
- 1:05:35and very difficult for the
- 1:05:36athletes to get up and over.
- 1:05:38So they felt that that had a
- 1:05:40danger element and they
- 1:05:41changed it immediately.
- 1:05:42Yes.
- 1:05:44Um, so yeah,
- 1:05:46I do think that that is a way
- 1:05:48for them to get back into,
- 1:05:53because we haven't seen
- 1:05:54them in six months and I think there,
- 1:05:58you know,
- 1:05:58when you're not in the public eye,
- 1:05:59you're forgotten a little
- 1:06:00bit and they need to do a few things, uh,
- 1:06:03to build up some street cred again.
- 1:06:06And I think that's good.
- 1:06:11like the idea of it was
- 1:06:12always good and they were sending,
- 1:06:14they were putting, you know,
- 1:06:16best practices for video
- 1:06:18standards for how you're
- 1:06:19filming things online.
- 1:06:20They were sending information on,
- 1:06:22let's say, um,
- 1:06:25I don't know what they had drug testing.
- 1:06:27I think they posted something about,
- 1:06:30you know, he, they, they,
- 1:06:32I think they did post
- 1:06:33something about heat at one point,
- 1:06:34but you,
- 1:06:34you had things going on their
- 1:06:35Instagram for a while and
- 1:06:36that stuff was great.
- 1:06:37Yeah.
- 1:06:39Yeah.
- 1:06:40Yeah,
- 1:06:41I have always said that I think there
- 1:06:43is a place for an athlete association.
- 1:06:46I just didn't like their structure.
- 1:06:47Well, the other thing is,
- 1:06:51I think it was Richard said that was like,
- 1:06:53oh,
- 1:06:53but you can't have active athletes on it.
- 1:06:57And he thought that was murky.
- 1:06:58And I thought that was
- 1:07:00interesting because they
- 1:07:01program and they have athletes competing,
- 1:07:02which is also murky.
- 1:07:04But
- 1:07:07Right.
- 1:07:07But at the same time,
- 1:07:08most unions have active
- 1:07:11players that are on those, like,
- 1:07:15that's what they are.
- 1:07:15And then you have the alumni
- 1:07:17stuff or you have other
- 1:07:18association that has maybe
- 1:07:21people that have retired
- 1:07:23and can also share.
- 1:07:24It's the unknown that makes it difficult,
- 1:07:26but I still think that you can have...
- 1:07:29depends on the topic but if
- 1:07:30it's just like like asking
- 1:07:32the current athletes what
- 1:07:33are best practices and like
- 1:07:35they can be involved in
- 1:07:36conversations for what
- 1:07:37they're seeing right now as
- 1:07:38they're um as they're
- 1:07:42competing and then when it
- 1:07:43comes to like other things
- 1:07:44then you don't have the
- 1:07:45active athletes that can be
- 1:07:46a part of that a cross fat
- 1:07:49says kara loves mayhem's involvement
- 1:07:52I just think it's unfair.
- 1:07:54I love mayhem.
- 1:07:55I love their programming.
- 1:07:56I like the people there.
- 1:07:57I just think it's completely
- 1:07:58unfair that you are
- 1:08:00programming and know every
- 1:08:01single workout of the year
- 1:08:04as do many other athletes.
- 1:08:08So kind of in the same vein
- 1:08:10as movement standards,
- 1:08:12WFP did announce their
- 1:08:14equipment list for the
- 1:08:16upcoming qualifier.
- 1:08:18And so you know what
- 1:08:19equipment you need ahead of
- 1:08:21time before the qualifier occurs,
- 1:08:24which does help in planning, I'm sure.
- 1:08:26I think that helps.
- 1:08:27And if you know that you
- 1:08:28need to go somewhere for a
- 1:08:29fifteen foot rope or your
- 1:08:30gym doesn't have a GHD and
- 1:08:31you know this gym,
- 1:08:32you don't know the workouts.
- 1:08:33It's kind of like when
- 1:08:34CrossFit used to release
- 1:08:35the floor plans and you
- 1:08:36were kind of playing the
- 1:08:37guessing game of like, ooh,
- 1:08:37they could do this
- 1:08:38combination and this combination.
- 1:08:40I think it's still unknown.
- 1:08:43You just have certain...
- 1:08:47you know, equipment and it can facilitate.
- 1:08:49It's not like they're,
- 1:08:50they're releasing it, you know,
- 1:08:51two years in advance.
- 1:08:53It's what, like when is their qualifier,
- 1:08:54like next week or something like that.
- 1:08:57So a couple of weeks in advance,
- 1:08:59I think that's fine.
- 1:09:00Um,
- 1:09:06Yeah, back on the mayhem thing,
- 1:09:08many athletes seem to find
- 1:09:10out about the workouts
- 1:09:11before an event prior to it.
- 1:09:14I can confirm that from my
- 1:09:16experience at the games,
- 1:09:16that I had a mayhem athlete
- 1:09:18that knew a workout.
- 1:09:20I can a hundred percent confirm that.
- 1:09:25All right.
- 1:09:26Now we're going to hit some
- 1:09:27quick hitter stuff.
- 1:09:29Crossover double-unders were
- 1:09:31announced as a movement for
- 1:09:32the CrossFit Games early.
- 1:09:34So, again, we now know.
- 1:09:36So everybody can have their
- 1:09:37beaded rope this year as
- 1:09:39opposed to that first year.
- 1:09:43I was surprised to see it
- 1:09:44make a comeback because I
- 1:09:48didn't think Dave was
- 1:09:50particularly a fan of them.
- 1:09:53and him doing the programming.
- 1:09:55Um, like I'm not surprised to see him back,
- 1:09:56but I was surprised cause
- 1:09:57he's doing the programming,
- 1:09:58but I think it's cool.
- 1:10:01Something different.
- 1:10:04And they're giving it enough time.
- 1:10:06They're giving it enough
- 1:10:07time where people can practice it.
- 1:10:08So I bet the volume of it
- 1:10:10will be a little bit bigger than, um,
- 1:10:14what, what they have in twenty,
- 1:10:15twenty two is like thirty reps,
- 1:10:18maybe thirty to fifty reps of them.
- 1:10:20Not sure how many, but it was like twenty,
- 1:10:22I think.
- 1:10:24Yeah, it wasn't many of them,
- 1:10:26but I'd expect now that now
- 1:10:27that they've released it earlier,
- 1:10:29that I would be a lot more than that.
- 1:10:32I just hope it's not like.
- 1:10:35It's a balanced workout
- 1:10:36where it doesn't just become.
- 1:10:39All about the.
- 1:10:41Cross our,
- 1:10:41but people have been given a. A warning,
- 1:10:44so it is all on the athletes now as well.
- 1:10:47Now they will have beaded ropes,
- 1:10:49not just the RX Markier athletes.
- 1:10:52We were actually an RX
- 1:10:53Markier podcast back then.
- 1:10:55And I actually had a beaded
- 1:10:56rope at the time of that
- 1:10:58games because they gave me
- 1:10:59the little package.
- 1:11:02Yes.
- 1:11:03Like they had sent it.
- 1:11:05I had like I had it sent to
- 1:11:07me prior to the games.
- 1:11:10I didn't know what it was for,
- 1:11:11so I didn't bring it to the games.
- 1:11:13Yeah.
- 1:11:14Yeah.
- 1:11:17Um, I found this on the internet today.
- 1:11:19I wanted to make sure to show you,
- 1:11:21did you see that rogue came
- 1:11:22out with a new plate?
- 1:11:24It's supposed to be quieter
- 1:11:26when it's dropped so that
- 1:11:28if you're working out at home,
- 1:11:29it actually will,
- 1:11:31it's supposed to decrease the decibels.
- 1:11:34Uh,
- 1:11:34your weight drop is in your garage or
- 1:11:36your apartment or whatever you're,
- 1:11:38wherever you're lifting.
- 1:11:39That's the best part about
- 1:11:39lifting is boom.
- 1:11:40Yeah.
- 1:11:42But if you're in an apartment complex,
- 1:11:44you know what I mean?
- 1:11:46And they're called honeycomb plates.
- 1:11:50So Garage Gym Reviews
- 1:11:53actually reviewed them and
- 1:11:54tested the decibels.
- 1:11:56But I wanted to show you the
- 1:11:57drop and see how these plates react.
- 1:12:00It is freaking wild.
- 1:12:02And it's from Rogue?
- 1:12:04It's from Rogue.
- 1:12:04You'll see the Rogue's right
- 1:12:07on the side of the plate.
- 1:12:07I didn't hear about this.
- 1:12:10That's cool, though.
- 1:12:11All right.
- 1:12:12So you see, that's the honeycomb plate.
- 1:12:16That's cool.
- 1:12:17Right there.
- 1:12:18And then when you drop it,
- 1:12:21they're rolling it off of a six foot.
- 1:12:23Put the volume on because it's not on.
- 1:12:25So it's going to sound like
- 1:12:26it's real quiet now, Scott.
- 1:12:30You're not going to be able
- 1:12:31to tell anyway.
- 1:12:33Okay.
- 1:12:34Dude, dude, dude.
- 1:12:37I was not expecting to test that.
- 1:12:39It's still less than the night.
- 1:12:41Here we go.
- 1:12:42You ready?
- 1:12:43I'm ready.
- 1:12:44No glove this time.
- 1:12:45Okay.
- 1:12:46All right.
- 1:12:47Three, two,
- 1:12:53Dude, still less than the Nikes.
- 1:12:55I am wondering from a sound-wise, though,
- 1:12:57I feel like the Nike was quieter.
- 1:12:59We're definitely going to
- 1:13:00have to test that.
- 1:13:01We definitely have to test that.
- 1:13:02Did Nike do it first?
- 1:13:03And then this is like their version of it?
- 1:13:05No, they dropped a high temp plate,
- 1:13:08a Rogue high temp.
- 1:13:09They dropped a Nike crumb something plate.
- 1:13:14So they did a couple plates
- 1:13:15to see the bounce and then
- 1:13:17to see the decibels.
- 1:13:23okay so dude dude dude they
- 1:13:25compressed they compressed
- 1:13:26that's that is like the
- 1:13:27tires that's pretty cool I
- 1:13:31was not come here why I was
- 1:13:32not expecting this is like
- 1:13:34I think that's good for a
- 1:13:36one like that's good if
- 1:13:37you're doing a one rep but
- 1:13:38how does that like
- 1:13:39absorption affect your
- 1:13:41lifts when like in crossing
- 1:13:42when you do multiple reps
- 1:13:43like I don't think that
- 1:13:44that's the weight that you
- 1:13:45would want to use if you're
- 1:13:46doing touch and go because
- 1:13:47if it's like kind of bending like that
- 1:13:49Like I wouldn't really know
- 1:13:50how the absorption happens
- 1:13:52and how that throws off the lift.
- 1:13:55But if you're just doing one rep,
- 1:13:56I can see it, you know, being good,
- 1:14:00like an Olympic lifting.
- 1:14:02So I think they were trying
- 1:14:06to say that they were
- 1:14:08trying to say that the more
- 1:14:09bounce the word, the not the worst,
- 1:14:12it was going to perform because you like,
- 1:14:15you want to comp plate and,
- 1:14:17it's not bouncing around
- 1:14:18your gym if you're doing like one reps.
- 1:14:22Right.
- 1:14:23And so they,
- 1:14:24they were kind of downgrading
- 1:14:26it for the amount of hop it had.
- 1:14:29The high template only went to the two,
- 1:14:32the two foot section on
- 1:14:33that ruler behind them.
- 1:14:35The, this one went to three,
- 1:14:38the Nike crumb plate went to four,
- 1:14:42like it bounced way higher.
- 1:14:45But what they found out is
- 1:14:46decibel levels were very different.
- 1:14:49These ones were by far the
- 1:14:52quietest plates.
- 1:14:55But they also said you're
- 1:14:56not dropping it with the
- 1:14:57bar attached or the collars,
- 1:15:00which would add some noise
- 1:15:02to the overall thing.
- 1:15:05But these are not cheap plates.
- 1:15:10They're in between the high
- 1:15:11temp and the competition plate price.
- 1:15:15And much higher than the high temp,
- 1:15:18which is what I have in my garage, Jim,
- 1:15:19are the high temps.
- 1:15:21These ones were almost
- 1:15:23double the high temp cost.
- 1:15:27I mean, it's a great idea.
- 1:15:32um andrew said I wonder how
- 1:15:33they make it weigh the same
- 1:15:34and keep it the same size
- 1:15:35with the material taken out
- 1:15:38it's and it's actually
- 1:15:39thinner these ones are
- 1:15:40thinner than the high
- 1:15:41template so it must be like
- 1:15:44the metal inside of it and
- 1:15:46where it's put uh to and
- 1:15:48distributed that makes it
- 1:15:50weigh the same yeah and the
- 1:15:55density on the
- 1:15:57The high temps are eighty eight,
- 1:15:59whatever the measure of density is.
- 1:16:02These are eighty.
- 1:16:05So they were made of a
- 1:16:07different density rubber.
- 1:16:09And I don't know, I don't I'm not again,
- 1:16:12science was not my strong point,
- 1:16:14but I just found it
- 1:16:15interesting to watch and
- 1:16:17how much they can because
- 1:16:18the other plates don't compress at all.
- 1:16:20They just kind of like bounce.
- 1:16:23These ones like really
- 1:16:24compress and pop up off the floor.
- 1:16:32uh durometer that's that's
- 1:16:34exactly at cross fat that
- 1:16:37is what they were measuring
- 1:16:41but anyway it's my garage
- 1:16:42reviews if you want to
- 1:16:43check out the full video um
- 1:16:47it's it was a fun little
- 1:16:48experiment they say it's
- 1:16:50they're not scientists they
- 1:16:51just wanted something
- 1:16:52repeatable that they could
- 1:16:53do with different plates
- 1:16:55and kind of give you an
- 1:16:55idea if it if it was worth
- 1:16:58the bang for the buck
- 1:17:03I keep moving around because
- 1:17:04it's so hot in this room.
- 1:17:06I close the door and the AC
- 1:17:08is not really in this room
- 1:17:09because I took off the fan
- 1:17:10that was in here.
- 1:17:11I'm just sticking to this chair right now.
- 1:17:13That's why I keep moving around.
- 1:17:19The sacrifices you make for this podcast.
- 1:17:24All right.
- 1:17:24You pumped in some questions.
- 1:17:28What lifts do you expect to
- 1:17:29see at the games?
- 1:17:31Well,
- 1:17:32I just figured because it was a
- 1:17:33little bit of a slower week,
- 1:17:34so I was trying to think of
- 1:17:35some questions with Lex on
- 1:17:36the drive home.
- 1:17:39Well,
- 1:17:40with Isabel that we saw this year at
- 1:17:42the semifinals,
- 1:17:44I would be surprised to see
- 1:17:45a snatch as a max lift there.
- 1:17:48And then they had a clean
- 1:17:50ladder last year.
- 1:17:51I don't know, maybe a clean and jerk.
- 1:17:53I was trying to think of a
- 1:18:00last year was a clean ladder
- 1:18:02yeah it's a clean ladder
- 1:18:04because justin justin won
- 1:18:06it right austin was way up
- 1:18:11there yeah but then he
- 1:18:13missed a lift or something
- 1:18:15they could do a heavy grace
- 1:18:17I could see that yeah just
- 1:18:20to offset all the heavy elizabeth's yeah
- 1:18:28Overhead squat could be there.
- 1:18:35CrossFat says,
- 1:18:36heavier as Isabel or double heavy Isabel?
- 1:18:42No, please, no.
- 1:18:44I don't even see another
- 1:18:44Isabel of any kind.
- 1:18:49Your next question was early top fives.
- 1:18:55I think we already talked
- 1:18:56about a little bit more on
- 1:18:58the men's side already of the top five.
- 1:19:01For me, it's Justin, Dallin, Hopper.
- 1:19:11I'll say Austin and Ricky.
- 1:19:15I think Ricky could have a
- 1:19:16good year still.
- 1:19:17You left Jeff out.
- 1:19:19Did I not say Jeff first?
- 1:19:21No.
- 1:19:23Jeff first.
- 1:19:25Yeah, I would go Jeff, Jeff, Dallin,
- 1:19:36Austin, James, Jay.
- 1:19:48Every time I pick Jason to do amazing,
- 1:19:52and he is having a really good year,
- 1:19:54he always, he lets me down.
- 1:19:58I can't pick him again.
- 1:19:59And on the women's side, Tia.
- 1:20:02Yep.
- 1:20:03Ariel.
- 1:20:09Danielle.
- 1:20:12I'd have to look real quick.
- 1:20:15I haven't looked at their
- 1:20:16leaderboard in a minute.
- 1:20:17Alexis,
- 1:20:18if she can perform a little bit
- 1:20:20better than she did at the semis.
- 1:20:27I said Jeff in my head as number one,
- 1:20:29and I thought I said it out loud.
- 1:20:36Lucy Campbell.
- 1:20:43Trying to think of.
- 1:20:50I'm going to go Tia Ariel, Tia Ariel, Abby,
- 1:21:03Lucy Fee.
- 1:21:04Lucy Campbell, right?
- 1:21:07Lucy Campbell Fee.
- 1:21:07Fee.
- 1:21:07Let me look at the woman's sign.
- 1:21:18um brooke wells too she
- 1:21:20could have a good good year
- 1:21:22about brooke I think we're
- 1:21:24gonna be top five and
- 1:21:26haley's always around the
- 1:21:27top five like uh yeah I'm
- 1:21:34not sure where she'll be I
- 1:21:35haven't seen enough from
- 1:21:36her but like talk about
- 1:21:38someone that's always
- 1:21:39around the fifth or sixth
- 1:21:40spot fourth really fourth
- 1:21:42to six like that's haley
- 1:21:52Yeah,
- 1:21:55I think Fee's better inside than Haley.
- 1:21:59And can Fee just stay close
- 1:22:01enough in that run?
- 1:22:04So I'm going to take Fee.
- 1:22:05I think Fee's had the better year.
- 1:22:09And she qualified in the first event,
- 1:22:11stress-free, working out, training.
- 1:22:13I don't know.
- 1:22:16That's got to pay off somehow.
- 1:22:19I think she'll definitely be
- 1:22:21close to that top ten or
- 1:22:22inside that top ten.
- 1:22:23She's looking really good this year.
- 1:22:25Really good.
- 1:22:26Felix Jack lately.
- 1:22:30Craig says Jeff, Dallin, James, Austin,
- 1:22:32Jason.
- 1:22:35CrossFit Alexis if her stomach holds up.
- 1:22:38It's a shame you've got to say that.
- 1:22:44Clock says Hopper.
- 1:22:45I have to say it, the flopper.
- 1:22:51I don't think he'll flop I
- 1:22:52think I think he'll be
- 1:22:52solid I think I see him
- 1:22:54doing well craig uh db
- 1:22:56ariel lucy tia brooke uh
- 1:23:01something about dylan feels
- 1:23:03right all right so there's
- 1:23:08that uh who could be a dark
- 1:23:12horse this year most improved rookie
- 1:23:17I don't know the one that
- 1:23:18won the online semis.
- 1:23:20I'm curious to see more of her.
- 1:23:22Okay.
- 1:23:26Sirium Neha?
- 1:23:31Yeah.
- 1:23:31I don't really know much about her.
- 1:23:38I think Lucy can do well.
- 1:23:39Every time I hear her name,
- 1:23:40my phone lights up.
- 1:23:43Because things are not going to be great.
- 1:23:44Yeah.
- 1:23:47Kringle should have a good year.
- 1:23:49And then I think with a lot
- 1:23:53of the stuff being indoors,
- 1:23:54I think Anika is going to do really well.
- 1:23:57Anika was my dark horse.
- 1:23:59She has to just survive.
- 1:24:01She'll survive the first event.
- 1:24:02But if a lot of it is indoor,
- 1:24:04she's got the strength and
- 1:24:05the gymnastics as good as anyone.
- 1:24:08Like she has home run
- 1:24:09abilities and certain stuff,
- 1:24:12which I think can maybe
- 1:24:13make up for the one event
- 1:24:15of like the long distance.
- 1:24:17It just depends how much running,
- 1:24:18maybe if there's some out of this,
- 1:24:20I don't know what that arena looks like.
- 1:24:23If they'll have like running
- 1:24:25outside of it for like
- 1:24:25multiple rounds with, you know,
- 1:24:27gymnastics or,
- 1:24:28and a weightlifting
- 1:24:29implement of some sort.
- 1:24:30But I think it's like,
- 1:24:32it's a lot more traditional,
- 1:24:33which is what Dave said,
- 1:24:35like classic CrossFit.
- 1:24:37Annika is one of the best.
- 1:24:39She's going to do very well.
- 1:24:41I think she's gotten over
- 1:24:42her big hurdle and now it
- 1:24:45like the pressure's off for sure.
- 1:24:48And,
- 1:24:48and hopefully that means none of the
- 1:24:50silly mistakes that have
- 1:24:52cost her in the past.
- 1:24:54Um, so that's what I'm thinking of.
- 1:24:57Um, vice is Miriam Von Rohr.
- 1:24:59Um, I think that was in my head.
- 1:25:02She's going to kill the first event.
- 1:25:04And then you don't think so.
- 1:25:11I don't think her strength is running.
- 1:25:13She's done a lot of high rocks.
- 1:25:14She's a good high rocker,
- 1:25:15but there's better runners
- 1:25:16in the field than her.
- 1:25:28Amy Kringle's a better runner than her.
- 1:25:30Is it mistakes or her
- 1:25:33weakness as an athlete?
- 1:25:34They're mistakes.
- 1:25:36The end of WFP was a mistake.
- 1:25:41The rope climb debacle of
- 1:25:43Orlando was just a bad judge.
- 1:25:53I don't know.
- 1:25:53Yeah, if there's a lot of wall balls,
- 1:25:55Miriam is one of the best ones.
- 1:25:58probably the best in the
- 1:25:58field with wall balls and
- 1:26:00and squatting burpees like
- 1:26:03she has some definitely
- 1:26:04some home run stuff very
- 1:26:06very good squatter um but I
- 1:26:11don't think her strength is
- 1:26:12I don't think her running
- 1:26:13is like a top three enough
- 1:26:15in the games field even if
- 1:26:18even if she does high rocks
- 1:26:19I don't I wouldn't put her
- 1:26:20top three in the in the field okay
- 1:26:30Um, like, isn't like Jen, like,
- 1:26:32isn't Jennifer Muir a good runner too?
- 1:26:35Lucy Campbell.
- 1:26:37Um, Amy Kringle, Tia, Haley.
- 1:26:42Hattie's a good runner.
- 1:26:43Yeah.
- 1:26:43Just trying to look very fast.
- 1:26:45I'm just skimming the broke thing.
- 1:26:47Elle's a good runner.
- 1:26:49Yeah.
- 1:26:50There's a lot of good runners this year.
- 1:26:51A lot of really good runners.
- 1:26:52Yeah.
- 1:26:56Yeah, Alexis is a good runner, too.
- 1:26:59There's a lot of people in
- 1:27:00that field that... Most
- 1:27:05improved and rookie?
- 1:27:08Most improved?
- 1:27:09I mean, it might be someone like Fee.
- 1:27:13On the men's side?
- 1:27:13Hmm...
- 1:27:18Lucy Campbell most improved for me.
- 1:27:21Um,
- 1:27:21because she finished what in the
- 1:27:22twenties.
- 1:27:24No, she was, she did well.
- 1:27:26She was like sixteenth.
- 1:27:27She won Lucy.
- 1:27:28Lucy won two events at her first game.
- 1:27:30She won the pro the Jackie pro.
- 1:27:32She won the swimming event.
- 1:27:34She was a stud in the first, in her first,
- 1:27:37in her first one, she was really,
- 1:27:38really good.
- 1:27:42Um,
- 1:27:44Most improved for the guys
- 1:27:47I'm going to go with.
- 1:27:52I mean,
- 1:27:52if Austin can make a big jump to
- 1:27:54the podium,
- 1:27:54I know he finished tenth last year,
- 1:27:55but there's a big jump
- 1:27:57between ten and that.
- 1:27:58That could be most improved.
- 1:28:02Matthew's already done well at the games.
- 1:28:08Maybe someone like Colton.
- 1:28:11Yeah,
- 1:28:12I could see Colton making a huge jump
- 1:28:14from like, yeah,
- 1:28:17was his last finish at the
- 1:28:19games to I could see him
- 1:28:21being a top ten or top five
- 1:28:22even just because I say
- 1:28:24can't win doesn't mean I
- 1:28:26don't think he can't be up there.
- 1:28:29I think he can be up in that top five.
- 1:28:32In my view,
- 1:28:33he has become that Christy...
- 1:28:40Christy... Kristen Holta.
- 1:28:45They'd have to have really
- 1:28:46good programming to beat to podium,
- 1:28:49but they're going to be up
- 1:28:49in that eight to five range a lot.
- 1:28:54I think that's where
- 1:28:54Colton's gotten himself.
- 1:28:55He's good.
- 1:28:59And I think that would be a
- 1:29:01huge improvement.
- 1:29:05Someone says, Jorge,
- 1:29:06this is his rookie year.
- 1:29:08I think Ty for rookie on the men.
- 1:29:11Ty Jenkins.
- 1:29:13You know who could have a
- 1:29:13great improvement is Tudor.
- 1:29:17Yeah.
- 1:29:18Tudor could have a good improvement.
- 1:29:20I don't think he'll
- 1:29:20particularly love that first event.
- 1:29:22No.
- 1:29:23But we'll see.
- 1:29:25He's supposedly been working on it.
- 1:29:27Yep.
- 1:29:32Rookie, you said, who'd you have?
- 1:29:34On the men's side?
- 1:29:35I had Ty on the men's side.
- 1:29:37On the female?
- 1:29:41I'll go with... William
- 1:29:42Leahy could have a good one, too.
- 1:29:44Yep, that's a good thing.
- 1:29:45William Leahy could be a good rookie.
- 1:29:49I think Lucy McGonigal could surprise.
- 1:29:52Because I already talked
- 1:29:55about Annika doing well.
- 1:29:57I think Lucy could do well.
- 1:30:03And like I said,
- 1:30:03I don't know enough about
- 1:30:04that one girl from the semifinals.
- 1:30:10So I'm curious to see what she looks like.
- 1:30:12Yeah, none of us know.
- 1:30:15It's not a strong rookie
- 1:30:17class on the women's side.
- 1:30:21I think it's McGonagall's to win.
- 1:30:31Lydia Fish.
- 1:30:32I mean,
- 1:30:33Jennifer Muir won the first WFP
- 1:30:34challenger division, right?
- 1:30:37So she had, she was good.
- 1:30:41She's got some, some good skills.
- 1:30:42Everything.
- 1:30:43I'm just trying to look at
- 1:30:44everyone else already has some spot.
- 1:30:46I mean, Miriam could also do well.
- 1:30:50I wouldn't say it's Lucy's to lose.
- 1:30:52I think Anika can do well too.
- 1:30:53That's true.
- 1:30:55I keep forgetting that she's a rookie.
- 1:30:58She has been on her radar for so long.
- 1:31:03And Lydia Fish could do well
- 1:31:04to endorse with that kind of stuff.
- 1:31:07The way they're going to kill her.
- 1:31:09But she'll be good at the other stuff.
- 1:31:14It's crazy the difference in
- 1:31:15time that like she's had to
- 1:31:17prepare versus someone like Fee and Abby,
- 1:31:20right, that were qualified.
- 1:31:22Was it early April?
- 1:31:26Early April was the Mayhem
- 1:31:27Classic and then Lydia and
- 1:31:32Yona was mid-June.
- 1:31:37Yeah.
- 1:31:38Wow.
- 1:31:38Yeah.
- 1:31:38Yeah.
- 1:31:43All right.
- 1:31:43So in other news,
- 1:31:46we have Emma tall re
- 1:31:47injures her shoulder.
- 1:31:49She that's probably puts her out for WFP.
- 1:31:52She wasn't competing in the
- 1:31:53CrossFit game season anyway.
- 1:31:56But nobody likes to see injuries.
- 1:32:01She had a lot issue before, right?
- 1:32:03I think I had.
- 1:32:06I think she had torn her lot
- 1:32:07or something a couple months ago,
- 1:32:09if I remember.
- 1:32:10I feel like she's been
- 1:32:11nursing it since last year's games.
- 1:32:13I wonder if it's,
- 1:32:15I don't know if it's the same side.
- 1:32:16If, if,
- 1:32:17if that went just from dealing with that,
- 1:32:21not sure.
- 1:32:24yeah well that's all we have
- 1:32:26tonight that's the rundown
- 1:32:29um we hope that uh jamie's
