- 2:58Anatoly and Natasha from Knitland.
- 3:02Welcome to the show. Hi.
- 3:05Hey, hey. Hey.
- 3:06You're in sunny Siberia. Is it sunny right now?
- 3:09Actually, it's, it's when we're talking, it's dark, so not too
- 3:12sunny. But I was wondering with with
- 3:17the location where you are, what are your summers like?
- 3:22Like the weather wise, does it get very warm or 'cause that
- 3:24when I think of Siberia and I think when most people think
- 3:26Siberia, they think it's always snowing, always cold.
- 3:30No. We live in the southern part of
- 3:32Siberia, the southern Siberia near Kazakhstan, near Altai
- 3:36Mountains. And our summer, it's very cold
- 3:40today. It's I think plus 3032 something
- 3:45like this. So it's our summer.
- 3:47Yes, our summer is very cold. And today it's storm was one
- 3:52hour ago the storm came and it's already OK.
- 3:57But yes, and, and very hot, very hot outside and but our winters,
- 4:02yes, it's very cold. It's it's the same -30 -, 35 - 4
- 4:07Oh wow. So yes, it's very big difference
- 4:11between summer weather and winter weather.
- 4:14So but we love our winter, you know, it's one of the most
- 4:19beautiful season because it's everywhere.
- 4:21Just white snow, totally snowy and very beautiful, very fresh
- 4:26air. So it's oh wow.
- 4:28Good time. It sounds beautiful.
- 4:30I'm, I am originally from New York State in the United States,
- 4:34so I live now in Tennessee. So if you know the geography of
- 4:38the country, where things are in respect to another, New York is
- 4:41up north and Tennessee is in the South.
- 4:44And so when I first moved to Tennessee almost 20 years ago, I
- 4:51was kind of this, I, I guess I was relieved for a, a short
- 4:55period of time because I grew up in New York and our winters were
- 4:58very harsh. You know, we would start getting
- 5:00snow in sometimes as as early as October.
- 5:03Yeah, and. And then and then it would snow
- 5:06into April sometimes. You know, so yes, it's the same
- 5:09like here. Yeah, so I when I got when I
- 5:12came to Tennessee, I saw like one month of the year for about
- 5:16a week long that had snow and it was a very little amount.
- 5:19So I'm like, hey, yeah, this is great.
- 5:21I'm not going to be dealing with all this muck.
- 5:24And then, you know, I don't know, like I, I miss it now
- 5:26because I feel like, well, when it's October, November, like
- 5:30when it's those months of the year for me, it's like, man, I
- 5:32want to bundle up. I don't want to, I don't want it
- 5:34to be so warm. And it is, it stays.
- 5:37I, I joke around sometimes and I say, you know, if Tennessee is,
- 5:40you know, you have, you have winter that starts in December
- 5:45and then January and then February and then the rest is,
- 5:48is summer. It's, it's good too 'cause it's
- 5:52sometimes the long winter, because yes, we have winter from
- 5:55November to the late of March to the April and it's OK when it's
- 6:02starting, it's beautiful. It's you, you breath by the
- 6:08fresh air. It's good and cool.
- 6:11But you know, usually the late of January, the every February,
- 6:16you will retired from the winter when the spring will come
- 6:21finally close. Yes, 'cause it's, it's
- 6:25beautiful. But we live in countryside, We
- 6:28live not in the big city. We live far from the big city,
- 6:31nearest, nearest big city from us.
- 6:33It's 100 kilometers. Yes.
- 6:36And we live in countryside and here it's snow, it's very big,
- 6:41not like the big cities. They're not too much snow 'cause
- 6:44they're everything. They're just removing snow from
- 6:47the streets from but not in our place.
- 6:51Yeah. It's a lot of snow, too much
- 6:53snow sometimes. Yeah, yeah, I know that
- 6:56especially like for here, like in the Tennessee is a it's the
- 7:00the shape of the state's very long, right.
- 7:02So you where where I am located is in the middle of the state.
- 7:06But when you go a little bit north and east of where I live,
- 7:09you've you, you start hitting the, the real rugged areas of
- 7:13the Appalachian mountain ranges. Yeah.
- 7:17And the beautiful and it's rugged and the because of the
- 7:20high elevations, you'll get snow up there regularly.
- 7:26Like they get snow further out there, but not so much down
- 7:28here. We're kind of in a Middle
- 7:30Tennessee is kind of a basin of the state, if you know what I
- 7:33mean. So it kind of dips a little bit
- 7:34low and you got a lot of water and rivers.
- 7:37And. You know, it gets very muggy
- 7:39humid, right? So like this right now today is,
- 7:42is for me is a it's like a soup outside.
- 7:46It's so thick with the humidity. You know what I mean?
- 7:49Well, well, it's great to have you folks here.
- 7:52I've been a fan of of knit land for I would say probably just a
- 7:57few years. Believe it or not, I've been
- 7:59heathen for almost a decade. But I didn't I didn't really get
- 8:02into your music or discover you probably just within the last
- 8:08four or five years, maybe tops. I think you the the the album
- 8:14that I think I found was ritual. So I was going to ask you if you
- 8:22wanted to talk a little bit about, you know, kind of your
- 8:24sound. You know, a lot of a lot of
- 8:28folks enjoy the, the style of the music, not just watching you
- 8:32perform live, but the, but the, the sound that, that your music
- 8:37has. They describe it a lot of times
- 8:38as you know, shamanic and I noticed a lot of the themes of
- 8:42the of, of knit lens music is, is surrounded by shamanism or
- 8:46the, or the shamanic practices of Siberian and Nordic
- 8:51traditions. So my question for that would
- 8:54be, is, is what has inspired you to explore that in your musical
- 8:59path? Why?
- 8:59Why go into the shamanic traditions, chants and and that
- 9:06sort of thing with your music? 'Cause it's a native so
- 9:12tradition, it's a leaf tradition of our native land of Siberia.
- 9:16It's right now the shamanism you can find only in Siberia like
- 9:21the tradition cause other parts of the world shamanism, it's
- 9:25like the fashion, you know that something new age.
- 9:29But in Siberia we have the real shamanism.
- 9:32It's a it's a big difference from the different Carlos
- 9:35Castaneda and something like this.
- 9:38It's not not the same. It's it's a big difference.
- 9:41It's tradition. It's the people living in this.
- 9:44People live in, they keep living in these beliefs in yes, it's
- 9:49Natasha at all. They're the same, I think the
- 9:52native tribes of Northern America and Africa, the native
- 9:56tribes are of Africa. They also keep the shamanism
- 9:59like the like the beliefs, like the lifestyle, like the world
- 10:04view and the same in Siberia. The people, the native people
- 10:07who live in here, the it's the same because it's a lot of the
- 10:12native people living around. So the we live in West, East,
- 10:18southern part of Siberia. We have a lot of the nomadic
- 10:21people living here called shamanism, traditional
- 10:26shamanism. It's a belief.
- 10:27It's like the tradition, like belief.
- 10:30It's tradition of nomadic tribes.
- 10:32The first, the first nomadic cause the for nomad people, they
- 10:39important to have the connection between the between they live in
- 10:46day life and the gods and spirits.
- 10:50And they need the, they can stay on one place to, to build the
- 10:54charges or something like this or special places, 'cause they
- 10:58are moving every day. They're moving, they, they
- 11:02travelling and they have the people, special people for who
- 11:09have the church site. You know, there's disconnection
- 11:13between, between the tribe and the gods.
- 11:18So these people, shamans, it's Siberian tradition, it's
- 11:21Siberian shamans, it's shamans of the nomadic tribes of
- 11:25Siberia. And it's our, it's, it's, it's
- 11:30traditional for our land. Of course, if we we work with
- 11:34the music, especially Natasha and Thai and me, sorry, were
- 11:40historians also not only musicians.
- 11:43The first were historians and we discovering, we studied the the
- 11:49traditions of the native tribes of Siberia.
- 11:54And this is most interesting. This is most special.
- 11:58This is most, you know, magic, live magic.
- 12:01It's not like the dancing around fire with the drums.
- 12:05It's real magic. It's, I cannot explain it, but
- 12:10when you touch it, real shamanism, traditional
- 12:13shamanism, you feel the your life changing and you start to
- 12:21meet the magic in different parts of your life.
- 12:26You start to understand something little more than
- 12:32before. So.
- 12:34That's beautiful. I think that a lot of people
- 12:37nowadays are realizing the importance of connecting to
- 12:41their roots. Yes, it's important, especially
- 12:45in this time right now 'cause it's a lot of the bad things, a
- 12:50lot of the shit happened around, especially in the world.
- 12:53And people understand that the politicians, they're they're
- 12:57just giving shit to our heads right to making a lot of bad
- 13:03things. And the people don't believe the
- 13:06politics people believe to they own inside the people start to
- 13:13try to find try to connect to the nature, to the roots, to the
- 13:16some financial and it's important.
- 13:19It's more important in this time, this hard time, so I
- 13:24think. Yeah, it's, I think it gives
- 13:26people comfort. I know it does for me, you know,
- 13:28I mean, ever since, so I've been, you know, the a Germanic
- 13:32heathen following the a heathen way of, of life for about 10
- 13:36years or so. And but with, with the way it
- 13:39started out for me versus the way it is now, there's been a
- 13:43growth, there's been a change. It's, you might say evolution
- 13:45and that has gravitated or has has fallen more towards animism,
- 13:52animistic practices. So finding my place with spirit
- 13:57that exists everywhere in the land, in the rocks and the trees
- 14:00and the water. And yeah, like you said before,
- 14:03you know, there's there's a lot of kind of new age or or neo
- 14:09Pagan movements that, that that try to replicate that.
- 14:12Or maybe it's again, maybe it's just a part of their their
- 14:14journey to to connect in that way.
- 14:17But I've seen I've seen some beautiful examples of, of what
- 14:23you're describing Anatoly with how genuine, how beautiful the,
- 14:28the, the traditional shamanism is in Siberia.
- 14:31I have a some some associates of mine, some people that I know
- 14:35from social media and abroad who are part of the Spirit of Wolf
- 14:43Siberian shamanism organization. It's it's it started over there.
- 14:47I don't know remember exactly where, but they, they, they hold
- 14:51true to the, the traditions that the, the garb, you know, what
- 14:54they wear, all the colors that the ribbons, the bells, you
- 14:59know, and these are all things that mean something very
- 15:01important. I don't know if you can talk
- 15:03about the significance of, you know, why do they dress with
- 15:07their face covered? Why do they have bells and
- 15:09rattles and this and that? Can you or all the furs and the
- 15:13feathers, right? Can you, do you, do you have any
- 15:15insights as as to what the importance of those things are
- 15:18and why they why they dress that way?
- 15:24OK, I will translate Natasha goes Natasha.
- 15:27Yeah, yeah. So yes, the every elements of
- 15:38the costumes, it's have the very special English.
- 15:52Destination the point go the every okay you cover your face
- 15:59when the okay the shaman have the special costume to have the
- 16:05special the shaman usually they use the costumes not every not
- 16:09every retail not every ceremony you use the as the shaman, you
- 16:14need to use this costume only. Yes, yes, it depends from the
- 16:20spirits you connect. So if you connect only with the
- 16:24nature spirit, you don't need to use this all the stuff you can
- 16:28use it only for you, not for connection for with the spirit.
- 16:31Usually use this stuff if you make very special rituals or
- 16:37danger rituals or you connect with the spirits of the worlds
- 16:41of the world of the dead people of the dead spirits the We don't
- 16:48we don't call them bad spirits because we don't have bad
- 16:53spirits. We have all spirits can help and
- 16:57all spirits can damage, be danger.
- 17:02Any spirit, the spirits of the trees, the lakes, reverse of
- 17:08spirits of the underworld can be good or else, or they also can
- 17:13be danger for the people. It's depend from the shaman and
- 17:16it's the first depend from the shaman and the costume you use
- 17:20only if you have the very special ritual, something with
- 17:23the connections with the very special ritual, like the exotism
- 17:30or if something if you try try to help the to health the the
- 17:42the some man who already very, very bad feeling you make the
- 17:47ritual the very big and special ritual.
- 17:52Yes, you need to costume because it's protect you against the
- 17:55bad. It's the costume.
- 17:59It's like the warrior costume, like the chains, Like the
- 18:02warriors use the chains and the helmets.
- 18:06Yeah, yeah. It's like.
- 18:08Armor maybe, if it protects. The costume like the armor or
- 18:11spiritual armor? Yeah, yeah.
- 18:13OK, gotcha. Yes, the on the Shannon crown,
- 18:24it can be images or or of different animals who help
- 18:33shaman to travel. It can be birds who help shaman
- 18:37to fly to the skies. It can be different deers or
- 18:42wolves who can shaman who these spirits when the shaman make the
- 18:47riddles starting to go into the special condition and these
- 18:56animals they helped to shaman to travel to run fast or to be the
- 19:04like the wolf, to be the like the aggressive or fly like the
- 19:10bird or to be the small and styles.
- 19:15You know that just to cross the some some scare things something
- 19:21in in in the in spiritual world. Yes, the idols idols on the
- 19:31costumes, different images of the like the people of animal
- 19:35seats protect the shaman against the the the aggressive spirits
- 19:41can't take your spirit from you can't can't damage your spirit.
- 19:49This like your army on you like the army who protect you against
- 19:54the different danger danger things during your travel,
- 19:59during your retail the bells. It's like the the the bad the
- 20:05bad spirits. They afraid they're not bad in
- 20:11the bad situation with the when the spirits can be aggressive.
- 20:19When you meet some aggressive spirit you use the bells cause
- 20:23the aggressive spirits they afraid the sound of steel.
- 20:29They're afraid. Yes the the aggressive spirits
- 20:33and This is why on the drum on the shaman drum on the backside
- 20:41the shaman also have the the small bells, not only doing also
- 20:46the bells who can remove when the shaman make the retail the
- 20:51plane on the drums near the body of the man who feel inside the
- 20:57bed and shaman play with the drums just to help to remove
- 21:03spirits remove the spirits who making bed with this people with
- 21:10this man I understand it's everything it's work everything
- 21:14it's help They also yes so the different yes Natasha will take
- 21:31your drum. I will show you this.
- 21:34Oh wow, hey, we. Get a we get.
- 21:35A we get. To see the drum.
- 21:38Nice, yes? And this, I don't know how it's
- 21:43called. How?
- 21:45How this on English? Yeah, I don't know.
- 21:49If it would be like a like tassels, I don't know if that's
- 21:51the right word for it, but I. It's.
- 22:01Every of these things, it's mean every retail.
- 22:07Yeah. With this drum, is it leather?
- 22:10Like, is that animals? No, no, no.
- 22:12Ah, drum. Yes, it's a leather drum.
- 22:14Of course, for real retail you can use all the laser drum
- 22:17'cause this also this animal who laser on this drum, this animal,
- 22:25it's like your horse, It's OK. You use the in Siberian
- 22:32tradition, the shamanic shaman drum called the horse of the
- 22:36shaman. And it's very important to know
- 22:41to not just take the any skin and use for drum.
- 22:45No, you use for drum only skin of the animal.
- 22:51Who the animal you need help you and your weapon.
- 22:58Yes, Yeah. During your riddles and on your
- 23:01drum. It's only the the IT can be skin
- 23:04of the horse. It can be skin of the bear,
- 23:08deer, bear. It's any and this animal help
- 23:11you do during the Riddle when you start to play on the drum,
- 23:15Yeah. This one here is made of you
- 23:17know what a bison is, or Buffalo, yes of.
- 23:20Course. American bison, Yeah.
- 23:21So that's what this one is. I don't know if the sound will
- 23:26come through it. The microphone doesn't always
- 23:27pick it up. But anyways, this is this was
- 23:30made from a by a friend of mine that the the introduction of my
- 23:33video there where you see Fialvetir workshop on the drums.
- 23:36This guy made it. But he does all he works in deer
- 23:40skins. He's done drums made from a
- 23:43horse, bison, bear, even cattle, you know, And yeah, like I it,
- 23:53every animal skin makes a different sound, too.
- 23:54I don't know if you noticed that.
- 23:56How, How the. Yeah.
- 23:59Yes, of course. Yes.
- 24:00This is the tone of the drum. This is the voice of the spirit
- 24:03of this animal. Yeah.
- 24:04Yeah, exactly. Yeah, Yeah.
- 24:07So everything has a purpose is what I'm hearing.
- 24:09You know, everything with the practices of the of the shamanic
- 24:12ways is, is everything has a, there is nothing that exists
- 24:16that is just a, it's useless, right.
- 24:18Everything is has a purpose. Nothing.
- 24:20Has a use. There is, there is a genuine
- 24:23intention behind why things are the way they are.
- 24:27And that's, that's, that's an important lesson, I think,
- 24:29because, you know, I think what people can, can get into the,
- 24:35the, the, the, the habit of or, or maybe lose sight of is, is
- 24:40when they're, when they're seeing things like your
- 24:42performances, you know, you're, you're dressed in, you might
- 24:46call it a costume, but it's, it's, it's a ritual attire.
- 24:48It's ritual clothes. You know your your face is
- 24:51painted, or it's covered, or it has it's.
- 24:54Just the you can use the color or you can use the colors like
- 24:59the American Indians, like the Native Americans, use the colors
- 25:03on the faces. It's also it's help the people
- 25:08to spread out, to hide from the spirits.
- 25:14Yeah, you change. Your image.
- 25:15You have to alter your fear of your image and change it because
- 25:18you're, you're entering into a, a, a, a ritual.
- 25:22You know, it is, it's, it's a ritual and all of that, all of
- 25:25that plays a factor. Like, I know this gets, I was
- 25:28about to say like this gets talked about in like the heathen
- 25:32communities, because some people become very traditional with
- 25:35their practice and they go back to those ancient roots and they
- 25:38really connect with that, you know, how people dressed in the
- 25:43way they would appear in a ritual or something.
- 25:46And then other people, not so much.
- 25:47They don't they, they're, they're more modern and they
- 25:49don't really get into that. And they sometimes people will
- 25:53be like, wow, look at you playing dress up, you know,
- 25:55like, oh, you're, it's like Halloween or something, you
- 25:57know? And no, it's, you know, really
- 26:00getting into a ritual state of mind because there's altered
- 26:05states of consciousness, if you know what I mean, That you're,
- 26:07you're in, you're, you're, you're in a place outside of a
- 26:10place, you know, you're traveling to time outside of
- 26:14time. And changing one's appearance
- 26:17through ritual attire, through paint, through all of these
- 26:21things puts us in that state of mind.
- 26:24It puts you into that frame of mind to be able to travel, to be
- 26:27able to serve, to be able to do those things.
- 26:31So yeah, it's, it's great. I love, I love what you're doing
- 26:34and what you have been doing. And I noticed you said earlier
- 26:38on the show that you're, you're very into much of the history,
- 26:42your historians, I think you may have said learning about the
- 26:46history of things. So what what I've seen from
- 26:50videos of your performances, they, they, they feel like a
- 26:55ritual. They don't feel like it's a
- 26:57concert, even though you're playing on a stage and you're
- 26:59plugged in to monitors and you know, you have an audience in
- 27:03front of you, etcetera. Your performances feel like
- 27:07rituals. So when you I'm sure that that
- 27:11you're doing that on purpose, right, you're approaching this
- 27:15as a, a part of spiritual practice, not just a
- 27:19performance, right? Like that's intentional, yes.
- 27:23'Cause this is the reason why we use these costumes with the lot
- 27:28of protection things, 'cause when we are going to the stage,
- 27:32it's a lot of the, it's lot of very many people around all that
- 27:38energy. And very.
- 27:40Many the yes, the spirits around and we must to protect us
- 27:45against all of this 'cause when we start playing and singing,
- 27:50the spirits also start to moving and we need to protect against
- 27:58this, against the something dangerous things.
- 28:02Because sometimes it's sometimes when we playing on the stage,
- 28:09sometimes yes, we feel something special, very, very special.
- 28:14Like the meditation. It's every time.
- 28:16Usually when you just start and it's going to meditation.
- 28:20But sometimes it's something you start to see something,
- 28:26something I don't know, some, some visions I don't know.
- 28:32Yes. And very important to people for
- 28:39people to know who practicing, who want to practice, who want
- 28:45to try to go in deeper to shamanism, to shamanic practice.
- 28:52Don't use the any drugs or something like this or alcohol
- 28:56for this. So the, the, yeah, it's in
- 29:00Siberian traditions. No, it's not.
- 29:05It's not possible 'cause the spirit not respect the shaman
- 29:09who use the any cricket term any.
- 29:14Substances. Anything that changes your state
- 29:17of mind, yeah. For changing them, yes, for mind
- 29:20changing yes. The spirits don't respect these
- 29:23people and don't making good things.
- 29:26So it's but it's very dangerous. It's not it's not it's not for
- 29:30fun. It's not like joke.
- 29:32Oh, the spirit's not like the cinemas.
- 29:35The something serious about the supernatural about the guys who
- 29:42hunting for the spirit. So which is no, it's it's very
- 29:46dangerous. It's very you must be very
- 29:51attention in this when you try to to connect, when you try to
- 29:58make the real when I tried to go in the real way of the enemies
- 30:04more if it's it's not joke, it's not fun.
- 30:09It's yeah, it's very important to understand.
- 30:12It's like the yes, like the soldier on the on the war.
- 30:17Yeah, yeah, you. Got to have that discipline, you
- 30:19know that, that respect. It's funny yet not funny, like
- 30:23hilarious. But it's, it's interesting that
- 30:24you that you mentioned how in the Siberian shaman traditions
- 30:29that the uses, you know, using plant medicines that can alter
- 30:35your states of consciousness are, are are prohibited.
- 30:39I know some people I mentioned before that did it get into
- 30:42that, You know, the spirit of wolf shamanism, which is, is is
- 30:45founded in, in Siberian traditions, they are the same
- 30:48way. And they live here in the United
- 30:49States and they will not partake of anything like no, no, no
- 30:54cannabis, you know, marijuana, No, no, no psilocybin, no
- 30:58mushrooms. Now these are all things which
- 31:01is it's, it's an interesting thing to think about, right?
- 31:03Because these are all gifts of the earth.
- 31:06These are green gifts. These are gifts from, and they
- 31:08have spirit in them too. And it's interesting to, to see
- 31:13that, you know, 1 tradition does not incorporate their use into
- 31:19the practice. Whereas other communities like
- 31:23you may look, go down to South America and the, the, you know,
- 31:26the Toltec traditions of shamanism, you know, they are
- 31:29very much a part of the, you know, ayahuasca and, and, and
- 31:33in, even in Africa, you know, you have the ibogaine medicine
- 31:37and, and mushrooms, of course. I, I remember hearing of a, of
- 31:43a, maybe it might have been the Siberian shamans or it might
- 31:47have been the Sami. I don't remember that would the
- 31:50reindeer would eat the the mushrooms and the poison from
- 31:55the mushrooms would digested the reindeer.
- 31:57But then the reindeer would urinate, they would pee, and the
- 32:00shaman would drink the urine. You hear if you heard that, that
- 32:04legend or that story. And then it would it would
- 32:06change their their mind and they would all hear.
- 32:08So, I mean, it's very far from us.
- 32:10It's a, it's a noise. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:12It's. Finland, it's, it's very five,
- 32:16you know, 5000 kilometers from us.
- 32:18Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, not, not your neighbors.
- 32:21I could remember which ones it were.
- 32:22If it was them, I thought I think it might have been them
- 32:25that that would do that they would drink the reindeers pee.
- 32:29For their. For the psychoactive effects,
- 32:32yeah. I heard about this.
- 32:34I heard the the some traditions especially like the it's using
- 32:42not for connecting with the spirits, it's using for the
- 32:48changing mind, for special practices, but not for connect
- 32:53with the spirits 'cause if this if you will meet this OK.
- 32:56I will try to explain like the in usual life, if you drunk, you
- 33:02go into the streets and you try to OK, if you drunk policeman
- 33:08and you go in to arrest the criminal, if you're very drunk
- 33:16you you will not arrest, they will kick you, they will shot
- 33:19you. And the same that shaman must be
- 33:22clear cause the shaman like the police guy who are going to the
- 33:27remove the criminal spirits from the body of the sick man you
- 33:33know? The same.
- 33:34It's like the, like the, I don't know, like the simple.
- 33:40No, Yeah, that makes. Sense you did a good job like I,
- 33:43I think everybody can understand like you have to be, you have to
- 33:46have your wits about you. You have to be clear in your
- 33:49mind and in your spirit. Yeah, yes.
- 33:51Just for control, everything just for control, it's it's in
- 33:55tradition. If you will read the books about
- 33:57the Siberian shamanism, about the traditional Siberian
- 34:01shamanic and the history about this.
- 34:07So you will find a lot of about this called shaman can't use it.
- 34:13Our Siberian shaman, I mean the nomadic shaman.
- 34:16No, no, the shaman of the salami, not the shamans of the
- 34:21the Southern America, Southern American guys.
- 34:25Yes, we know that we was in South America several times we
- 34:29played there and it's very cool very interesting to me to
- 34:36discover some moments of the culture, the native culture.
- 34:41It's very interesting, especially the music, the sounds
- 34:45of different, different sounds for they use for results and
- 34:52it's very interesting, but I don't know how it's working in
- 34:56the tradition with the different stimulation for the mind.
- 35:03Stimulation. So what, what do you know about
- 35:06how you know? So we're talking about
- 35:08connecting with spirit and being of a clear mind to be able to do
- 35:13that right, to have our wits about us.
- 35:16What are some of the what are some of the ways that the shaman
- 35:19achieves this? How how does this happen?
- 35:22Is it through the the the drumming?
- 35:24Is it through the muse? Like how is this achieved?
- 35:28You can say the spirits. If it's very when the first time
- 35:36the spirit's going to you, it's very scary.
- 35:41It's very it's small. Yeah.
- 35:44The shaman don't don't have the. Yes, Shaman don't have choice.
- 35:48So it's you can you cannot, you can't take the drama and OK, and
- 35:55the shaman. No, it's not working like like
- 35:58you can do it. You can practice in.
- 36:01Of course it's it will work in on the some moments or because
- 36:06in any case the spirits will hear something, the spirits will
- 36:11try to answer, but it's not the same like it's it's not the same
- 36:19like it's real shaman doing it because the real shaman, he can
- 36:23control the spirit. Yes, and the shaman shaman don't
- 36:29need the drum for for retos for for connect Yes, for connect the
- 36:35spirits Shaman don't need anything for connect for make
- 36:39them for make the retos so you can go into the forest.
- 36:43Don't use the special costumes, don't use the drums and you can
- 36:50make the retos, but you you just need to know how what spirits
- 36:57teach you. So OK, the first, the first not,
- 37:04not not you going to the spirits and ask them.
- 37:09Come and teach me. No, one day the spirits, if they
- 37:18choose you, they start to visit you.
- 37:25The spirits start to visit you in your dreams when you sleep.
- 37:29I see. The spirits.
- 37:30Start to visit you to in your usual life like the in the
- 37:36visions around you. It's not not not every not every
- 37:40time, not like the you when you're practicing Xiaomi, you
- 37:44sit in and see the lot of spirits around no, no, it's not
- 37:48working like like this like the Sortai no, it's the spirits
- 37:55start to visit you and the first visit it's very scary it's very
- 38:00scary it's very you don't understand what happened.
- 38:04You want to wake up, but you can't wake up.
- 38:06You want you will try to run away from them, but you can't
- 38:10run away. They start to cut they start to
- 38:16broke your bones. They start you they cut your
- 38:20body. You feel this, you feel
- 38:23everything of this. You feel all of this pain.
- 38:25You feel it's very escape. It's very, it's something like
- 38:30the like an attack. Almost like they're attacking
- 38:36you. Like the something demons inside
- 38:40you, you know, in the. Oh yeah, like a.
- 38:42Possession. Yes.
- 38:45So in the but in traditions here in Siberia, the people know
- 38:51this. If yes, it's it's named the
- 38:56shamanic illness. OK.
- 38:58OK. Yeah, I've heard that.
- 38:59Yeah, yes, yes. I think you heard and and and
- 39:04during these visits. The spirits not want to kill
- 39:08you. The spirits want to teach you
- 39:12and rebuilt. They not broke your bones and
- 39:15not cut your body just for fun. They rebuilt your body and your
- 39:22spirit for the shaman to to be the shaman.
- 39:28And if of course, if you don't want it, you can go into the
- 39:33church, talk to to the Orthodox Church or the Catholic Church
- 39:37and ask the exorcism and it's working.
- 39:40It's help. We know this.
- 39:43Yes, we know this situation. When the people don't want, they
- 39:47go into the church and they ask for exorcism.
- 39:52It's the exorcism, the Christians or Islamic search
- 39:57that is Marito. They help.
- 40:01It's it's helped if it's a good exorcist, it's helped to.
- 40:07Protect you again the spirits to to to remove them.
- 40:13Yeah, yeah. But.
- 40:14If you don't want to have the exorcism like this, you just
- 40:21need to start to ask and start to study.
- 40:28Try to understand what the spirit want from you.
- 40:31You need to read books. You can visit the old old people
- 40:35who know this situation. You can visit the old the best,
- 40:39of course, the best way it's going to find and find and meet
- 40:44the any old real shaman. Just to it.
- 40:50We have the shamans here, the old shamans and you, you just go
- 40:56into the old shaman and tell him about your situation and he, he
- 41:02will explain you. He he, he will help you in any
- 41:06case guide. He's going to guide you, yeah.
- 41:09Yeah, he will help you in some moments.
- 41:10He will explain and this is help, this help.
- 41:14And after this you will start to feel this and you start to
- 41:19study. You start to understand what the
- 41:23spirits will give you. The animal spirits will give you
- 41:27the your image there of your costume.
- 41:31The spirits will explain what they want.
- 41:35Spirits tell you different names, different spirits tell
- 41:38you different words. And they start, the spirits
- 41:42start to guide you, will start to teach you and help you.
- 41:47And this is a real, it's a way of the real shaman.
- 41:52And of course, we know the lot of the people who just can't go
- 41:57into the forest to make the retail to make the dances.
- 42:01It's also, as I told you before, it's also working.
- 42:05It's also help you in your usual life.
- 42:08You can ask, you can make the gifts to the spirits you make
- 42:11and make gifts to the fire. But of course, you need, you
- 42:16know, you need to know what gives spirits love.
- 42:21Yeah. So you need to know what spirits
- 42:23prefer you. Just also, you can ask the old,
- 42:27old people. You can ask the native people
- 42:31how they connect with the spirits.
- 42:32And yes, you can ask the spirits for the good, good health for
- 42:38you, for your family, for this. It's like like the bring gift
- 42:43and ask them, Yeah. That's, that's the other thing
- 42:47too. I noticed that the relationship
- 42:50that we have, it is, it is a, you know what reciprocity is the
- 42:55gift for a gift. So I give the gift and then the
- 42:58gift comes back to me from them. And then there's the cycle, you
- 43:01know, gifting cycle. So this, this is a, this is a
- 43:04way of life that connects us in a very healthy way.
- 43:08Nobody is taking something more than what they need or being
- 43:13like being robbed of something. There is this harmony, there's
- 43:17this shared. Yes, yes.
- 43:19Cycle yeah, also, yes, it's meditation like the it's also
- 43:24helpful clear the mind something like this.
- 43:28So it's but it's not shamanism. It's just to be respectful for
- 43:33your I don't know for your for nature around you, for the cause
- 43:39nature. It's sleep.
- 43:41It's just a way. It's just a good way that people
- 43:42should be, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's our, it's the way we
- 43:45lived as, as, as a human being, as a species.
- 43:49It's the, it's the, it's our most primal way of, of
- 43:52existence. We had to at one point in time,
- 43:55as people, as, as, as a species, we had to live in harmony with,
- 43:58with nature because we, we relied on it.
- 44:01We had to rely on nature to survive.
- 44:03If, if, you know, if we were not in a good relationship with
- 44:07this, with the land, with, with nature, it was bad for us, we
- 44:10wouldn't survive. Yes.
- 44:13And now can anybody you know, man and woman can can can both
- 44:19men and women be the shaman in in the Siberian tradition, not
- 44:23not matter. From the man of woman.
- 44:27So it's not matter. Yeah, and it can be in any ages
- 44:32after after 33, yes, usually the age of the shaman, birth of the
- 44:43shaman age. It's 33.
- 44:47It's like the age of Christ, you know?
- 44:49Oh, I. See, yeah, like the the yeah,
- 44:52when he yeah, I see that's Rose in.
- 44:54Siberian tradition. The numbers it's very also it's
- 44:59very symbolic. It's 3 yes, Natasha, she know
- 45:16the more about the shamanism. Natasha the 33 it's age of the
- 45:24shaman beginning to be the shaman before.
- 45:28So the three shaman studying from the spirit, guiding from
- 45:34the spirits from the other shamans.
- 45:37Yes, it can be from childhood and in so the three it's
- 45:42completely finally, completely shaman.
- 45:48Yeah. Yeah.
- 45:50So that's like when they when they come into being that, that,
- 45:54that that age is when it, when it comes into existence or comes
- 45:57into being a true shaman. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:01That's fascinating. This is all very, very
- 46:02interesting. I love learning about the these,
- 46:05these traditions and it's beautiful to see the the two of
- 46:09you preserving them through song and through music.
- 46:14I do want to get in touch or do I want to put up here for us to,
- 46:18to listen to or, or watch really this this short video that
- 46:21Patrick sent us. So Patrick Walsh, for those that
- 46:24are listening, you know, he's been on my show several times.
- 46:26He's also like Facebook community.
- 46:30That's the the Highland spiritual mental health group.
- 46:34He's got a NIT Land fan group page or fan group on Facebook as
- 46:38well. And he's a huge supporter of, of
- 46:42NIT Land. And I know you both are familiar
- 46:45with who I'm talking to. And he did send a small, a short
- 46:48video with a few questions. I'm going to play the video for
- 46:50everybody to see and, and hear and then I'll recap it because
- 46:55he, he does express a lot of his appreciation throughout the
- 47:00video. So he has three different
- 47:02questions, and I'll break it down for you after we watch the
- 47:05video. But yeah, here it is.
- 47:07We're going to go ahead and play it now.
- 47:09So thanks, Patrick, and thank you all for watching.
- 47:13Hello. Knit.
- 47:15Land and Nick Garv News Things Thank you so much for the
- 47:19opportunity for me to ask you, Nick Land, a few questions and
- 47:23say a few things about you both. So with that said, Knit Land
- 47:28first and foremost, is there a place you guys go to to feel
- 47:32inspired and to create your work?
- 47:36And then following off the bed, growing up as children or
- 47:42teenagers. What are some groups, some
- 47:46artists that inspired you? Or something you.
- 47:48Enjoy listening to I'm sure many of us are dying to know that and
- 47:53with that said, also so far in your tours, the development and
- 48:04grow the Midland. What are some of?
- 48:08The milestones, the accomplishments that you're so
- 48:11proud of because many of us are dying to know, including me.
- 48:16So with that said to Netland, you always hold a very special
- 48:21part of my path and my practice and I want to thank you guys
- 48:27very much for allowing us the opportunity to listen and
- 48:31experience your music because it's helped me personally
- 48:35through great times, very challenging times continuing.
- 48:40In the. Past and the present and in the
- 48:43future. Your work really leaves a mark
- 48:45just as well as my brother Jesse from Make Our Musings.
- 48:50I've discovered him a while back ago and from them, just like
- 48:54your work and a few other artists and bands, has been
- 48:57nothing short of a blessing to accompany us, to stand beside us
- 49:04but also allow us an opportunity of self discovery.
- 49:09That's something that not a lot of artists and bands can do
- 49:12nowadays. But to be in this community and
- 49:16to share our aspirations, our hopes, our setbacks and our
- 49:20plights and our celebrations, you're working at Land Again
- 49:25holds a very special place in my heart and my practice, just as
- 49:28well as Jesse from Nicharb Musings.
- 49:30So with that said, thank you both very much for this
- 49:33opportunity. I could be more happy, more
- 49:35blessed. So with that said, Save Rossi
- 49:38shine on and thank you both very, very much.
- 49:45He's such a great guy. He's so genuine, you know, he's
- 49:47so heartfelt. You know, everything he says, it
- 49:52comes from his heart. So I'll back up a bit because he
- 49:55did say a lot. So just to kind of summarize,
- 49:58one of his first questions was, is there a place, you know, a
- 50:02location somewhere that you go that you feel particularly
- 50:06inspired when it comes to like writing music, composing,
- 50:10putting your putting your songs and stuff to to life, bringing
- 50:13them to life? Is there a place that you'd go
- 50:15very specifically that you feel more inspired than in any other
- 50:17place? Yes, of.
- 50:19Course, it's the most interesting people.
- 50:27I will start from the far, but not very far.
- 50:32The, the many people ask us why we're staying living here in
- 50:37Siberia, why we're staying living.
- 50:39And here in the rational Siberian people ask us why we're
- 50:43staying living in our small place, not in the big cities,
- 50:46'cause you can go to live to the Moscow and Sense Patterns book
- 50:50or Novosibirs, just to have the more points for making music for
- 50:57anything. No, we cannot do it because we
- 51:00must stay here. It's this place where we're
- 51:04living it's a place of our inspiration, the place of our
- 51:08main inspiration. You I don't know, I think you
- 51:12can't image it's how it's beautiful.
- 51:14It's I'm today I'm driving to the Omsk 100 kilometers and
- 51:21driving back home three hours ago driving back home, I just
- 51:26opened the windows in car in the car and just it's so beautiful.
- 51:32It's unreal. It's like the I don't know it's
- 51:35like the on the cinemas like the Lord of the rings.
- 51:39Oh wow, that's. Very beautiful.
- 51:42Yeah, and it's most important. I can stop my car every, every,
- 51:49any place I want. Or I can drive from the main
- 51:54road to the small roads to country roads just to stay, stop
- 51:59in the forest, make the fire, make the camping and spend time
- 52:06there. So I don't need something
- 52:08special, something papers from the government for this.
- 52:11No, we don't need it. It's very beautiful land, it's
- 52:14very beautiful place. It's very beautiful people with
- 52:17open hearts. It's very special, the Siberia,
- 52:19it's very special place in the world.
- 52:21I for me, for Natasha, for our son, it's I think it's most of
- 52:28the it's like the perfect place for living, for making every
- 52:34single. So it's all went.
- 52:37Yes, of course, yeah. Yeah, beautiful, beautiful.
- 52:40I hope to, you know, I don't get to.
- 52:42I I hear what you're saying. And yes, there's beautiful
- 52:45places here and in our country too, but it's so crowded, you
- 52:49know, in a lot of places. So it sounds like you have a, a,
- 52:52a gift and that you're appreciating that gift and it
- 52:55comes through in, in your music for sure.
- 52:59So he also asked and thank you for answering that too.
- 53:03But he also asked if there were any specific like artists or,
- 53:08or, or other musicians or other sources of inspiration that
- 53:12while you were growing up in your youth, when you were young,
- 53:15you know, did any of those things that you liked back then,
- 53:19did it help inspire you to create what has become Knit
- 53:25Land? And if so, like what were those
- 53:27inspirations? Other bands, other musicians,
- 53:31other artists, What kind of helped you or did there?
- 53:35Did they help you? Yes, we are.
- 53:44Yes, we hear the music. We're hearing the music, but
- 53:48we're hearing the very, very different music from our music.
- 53:53We don't hear the folk or music, something near folk.
- 53:58We don't hear it because it's not help.
- 54:02It's can be it's it's it can be not help but wrong.
- 54:11I don't know how it's OK, we're hearing the different music and
- 54:21if we speak about the Nitland inspiration, it's from history,
- 54:29from our from our science work works in university, when we
- 54:36started in university when we make the different discovery and
- 54:41all studying this everything and also the very, very beautiful.
- 54:49It's a traditional music of the native people of Siberia.
- 54:55It's very beautiful. It's unreal.
- 54:58So you when you hear it, you just forget about anything
- 55:05around you. It's so beautiful.
- 55:08It sounds like the like the magic.
- 55:12I don't know, I can't explain it.
- 55:15Yes, it's native people the same.
- 55:17I love the hear the I have the recordings on on our computer,
- 55:23in our studio, The rituals of the Native Americans, so
- 55:31beautiful. So you can feel this energy.
- 55:34You can feel this not music, but modern, modern music, right?
- 55:41It's. For us it's most interesting,
- 55:44but their. Songs are, yeah, their songs
- 55:46are, are rooted in their past. And then it's it's rooted in
- 55:50their where they're from. You feel something.
- 55:52Inside you feel something special, not music, not rhythms
- 55:56or melodies. You feel it's energy, you feel
- 55:59the power, you feel the some financial.
- 56:02And it's very, very cool about the musicians we hear.
- 56:07Yeah, it's it's different for me.
- 56:08It's one of the favorite. If it's Freddie Mercury and
- 56:11Queen and Johnny Cash and Kurt Cabani, it's yeah, yeah.
- 56:17It's Natasha. Natasha very loved the German
- 56:22industrial and techno music, the German souls.
- 56:26But it's just for, you know, just for spend the time.
- 56:33You can play, you can put the play there and it's cool.
- 56:39Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:42We are not. Leaving every every morning wake
- 56:44up and OK, we need to do the retail, we need to go.
- 56:47No, we are, we are normal people, yeah.
- 56:50Right to the to some yeah, yeah, we get joy.
- 56:52I mean, we need. To yes, we need to serve the we
- 56:57need to make the connections with the we need to make the
- 57:00retails in usual life also, not only on the stage like it's and
- 57:07we we make the lot of we spend a lot of time with this, but also
- 57:14we are normal people who drink the Tennessee whiskey, who drink
- 57:17the yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:19Yes, I know the Tennessee. Yes, yeah, there you.
- 57:22Go. There you go.
- 57:22All right. Good.
- 57:24We look, we hear the music, we watching the different, you
- 57:31know, the animal series. Yeah, yeah, play the video
- 57:36games. Right.
- 57:38Right. I, I, I, I, it's funny.
- 57:40It's like if you were ever in my car and we're driving along and
- 57:43I have music playing, you're going to hear all kinds of
- 57:47things. Like you're going to hear stuff
- 57:49like, you know, knit land, you're going to hear stuff like
- 57:51Wardruna, You're going to hear stuff like, you know, Hylong
- 57:56and, and some of that. But then you're also going to
- 57:58hear, you know, some, some Native American type, you know,
- 58:02songs. You're also going to hear things
- 58:05that is like a Umnet Oskhan. I think he does like he does a
- 58:10Detroit singing, but to like techno beats, you know what I
- 58:13mean? Like club beats, you know?
- 58:14So you're not, you know. Yeah.
- 58:20Yeah, it's good stuff. It does.
- 58:21It makes you feel happy, you know what I mean?
- 58:23It brings you joy, it puts you in a good mood.
- 58:25And yeah, that's, but it's very different from from, of course,
- 58:29what what knit land is. But I love it.
- 58:31I love the diversity, you know, the the variety.
- 58:34Variety, as they say, you're right, is the spice of life.
- 58:37Got to have some of that, some of that variety in your life.
- 58:42And then, OK, great. So thank you for that.
- 58:43And then lastly, what Patrick was wanting to know, can you
- 58:47tell us what you have felt to be your greatest accomplishments, a
- 58:50milestone occurrence for Knit Land?
- 58:54You know what? What's the one thing that stands
- 58:56out that you've done with Knit Land over the years that really
- 59:00is, is the height of, of what you've done, what you've
- 59:03accomplished? In musical any.
- 59:12Could be anything, could be the music, could be the performance.
- 59:14Like, did you play somewhere very specifically that stands
- 59:17out above all the other places that you've played or performed,
- 59:21you know, anything really, like what what has stood out for you
- 59:24for for Midland's accomplishment?
- 59:27I think we did. We did not found it yet.
- 59:32I think because we are already on the way.
- 59:36We're already well, like the you know, there's some right don't
- 59:39have the goal. They have the patch.
- 59:43It's our it's our, you know, we don't have the goal and I don't
- 59:47know, we're just every day something happened.
- 59:50Every day we have the something new, new experience, something
- 59:55good or something bad or anything and.
- 1:00:00Yes, yes. The main milestone.
- 1:00:02It's our son, of course. Yes, yes.
- 1:00:04Yes, it's beautiful. Yeah, it's a main, main
- 1:00:08milestone. And the small milestone it's our
- 1:00:10cat and the most small milestone it's our rat.
- 1:00:14So it's so it's yes, I think this our family for us, the
- 1:00:21family on the first, not the music, not the family on the
- 1:00:261st, of course. Beautiful.
- 1:00:30It's it's, you know, it's a pleasure to to have all.
- 1:00:38We are very we're very grateful to the to spirits, to gods, to
- 1:00:46all The Who gave us all of these souls.
- 1:00:50We're very we're very happy. Yeah.
- 1:00:54We're very happy, yeah. It shows, you know, the
- 1:00:57genuineness of what you do, the, the, the care that you put into
- 1:01:03preservation of the tradition. You know, it's not like, because
- 1:01:06I know you've probably seen, you know, there are some performers,
- 1:01:10there are some musicians and artists that dress up to look a
- 1:01:14certain way. And it's almost like a, a
- 1:01:16mockery. You know, they, they like
- 1:01:20they're making fun of it. And I don't, I don't know, like
- 1:01:23you can tell when people are doing it just for the attention,
- 1:01:27you know what I mean? Like they're performing and
- 1:01:29they're, and they're making music that is, it appeals to
- 1:01:32people. People like it.
- 1:01:34They're it'll sell tickets. It'll, you know, sell records or
- 1:01:37it would sell streams of the, of the songs, you know, and that's
- 1:01:41why they're doing it. They're doing it to tack into
- 1:01:43the the popular, yeah. We don't, we are not running.
- 1:01:49We are not run to be the we are not run for the fashion, not
- 1:01:53run, not running for the popular to be the popular.
- 1:01:58We're just do what we love. Just yesterday, just yesterday,
- 1:02:06I read the the chat of the people of the some people here.
- 1:02:15It's a close chat the the musicians who discuss about the
- 1:02:21how to make the the popular song and they they speak, oh, we need
- 1:02:28to do in this, doing this. And I'm just reading.
- 1:02:32I can't write anything there because the people don't
- 1:02:35understand their reason for making music just to yes, like
- 1:02:41you told that just for be the popular just for make the money
- 1:02:44or something to notes. It's not our way.
- 1:02:48Yeah. We're just.
- 1:02:50Making when we feel OK Natasha she cannot yeah, she can share
- 1:02:56very genius composer and musician.
- 1:03:00And Natasha of course she can make everyday make new song
- 1:03:04everyday she but she don't do it for Natasha.
- 1:03:09It will be like the cell. It's in this way Natasha will
- 1:03:16solve your soul. Natasha can do it.
- 1:03:21Natasha in this way Natasha just it kills your soul.
- 1:03:25It's like the it's will be not true.
- 1:03:29It will be not good not. Authentic not, Genuine not not.
- 1:03:34Fair and the Natasha usually make the songs when she filled
- 1:03:39it. Sometimes it's we we me and our
- 1:03:44son. We already we don't touch her
- 1:03:47for this. OK, Natasha, tell OK guys, I
- 1:03:51need to work. We're OK.
- 1:03:53OK, so you go, you can go to studio.
- 1:03:56When we don't touch you, we we are doing everything.
- 1:03:59We are walking, we are going to the supermarkets.
- 1:04:02We're doing all stuff. But Natasha's sitting in the
- 1:04:05studio and realize her ideas. Yeah, let let mom let mom do her
- 1:04:11thing, Yeah. And in these moments, we don't
- 1:04:16need to touch Natasha because there's yes, there's something
- 1:04:19special. Go into your mind, to your
- 1:04:23spirit, to your soul. And every time it's I'm waiting
- 1:04:29what it will be I. I just recently, so I've, you
- 1:04:34know, again, I've been listening to, to, to NIT lands for just
- 1:04:37about the last probably 3-4 or five years, you know, so not
- 1:04:40very long. And I think your, your catalog
- 1:04:43of music goes back to like what 2013 is, is when it started for
- 1:04:47you right around 2013. Yes, yes.
- 1:04:51So I found you much later on, you know, so it was probably
- 1:04:542021 or 2022 when I discovered NIT Land.
- 1:04:58And I just, I just got got it off your band camp.
- 1:05:03The the the songs of the Shaman, your most recent release.
- 1:05:09And I was telling Patrick about it, man, And I sent him the
- 1:05:11thing I said, man, let's just take some time and then listen
- 1:05:14to this. This isn't it's, it's more than
- 1:05:16just music. It, it's, it's an experience.
- 1:05:19No songs. Of the channel, it's not the
- 1:05:21music, it's not the songs, it's not like the we are doing in our
- 1:05:26usual recordings albums. It's it was the totally against
- 1:05:32of anything modern music industry.
- 1:05:38It was just like the we don't need to to yes, of course we can
- 1:05:46take all of the any of the songs and make the big arrangements,
- 1:05:50lot of the drums, lot of the voices, but we don't need to do
- 1:05:54it because it's a real ancient traditional ritual songs.
- 1:06:01Any of these songs on the songs of the shaman, any of these
- 1:06:06small it's not songs, it's the spells.
- 1:06:10Any of this spell have their own way in the have their own place
- 1:06:15and in retail it's any every of this spell it's for something
- 1:06:22for something to do for some part of the retail for it can be
- 1:06:27the retail only with one of this spell.
- 1:06:30It's ancient. We must to be there respectful
- 1:06:33for this. We must to be there very care
- 1:06:37for translated to the world and we just took the these spells
- 1:06:48and just record them them in like shamans perform it during
- 1:06:59the rituals without any changes, without yes, of course it it's
- 1:07:07studio work. Of course we use the
- 1:07:09microphones. We use the old stuff for music,
- 1:07:15but it's just it's not it's not music album.
- 1:07:21It's not music album. It's special.
- 1:07:24It's like our, I don't know, it's a discover, it's
- 1:07:33researching, it's. So like I was looking at the at
- 1:07:38the, the titles, I guess, right. So every, every track, every
- 1:07:42piece of of work on songs of the shaman have a name, of course.
- 1:07:47And I'm seeing like names of, you know, the the was it Hoga
- 1:07:52hoga Yaga, Hoga Yaga. Hoga yaga.
- 1:07:55For the for the ritual of the beginning of the path.
- 1:08:01So is this like a initiation ritual?
- 1:08:05Does it like I'm starting this journey?
- 1:08:08Can you, can you maybe tell us a little bit more about the you
- 1:08:11can? You can use this, you can use
- 1:08:14the spell not only for start the retail or something like this.
- 1:08:18And when the in Siberian tradition we have that any, any,
- 1:08:26any job, any work, any deal, anything you start to do, it's
- 1:08:32the patch. And therefore we have the like
- 1:08:38the in shamanism, we have the small Rito.
- 1:08:44They call the Rito to the white Rd. to the white way.
- 1:08:51It's interesting. And this song?
- 1:08:53For this just for open the remove the stones, remove the
- 1:08:59anything bad on this road on this patch song.
- 1:09:03These songs for this not for not for yes, of course, it can be
- 1:09:06used also for starting read or for starting anything.
- 1:09:10These songs for start anything. Beginning.
- 1:09:13The patch, it's the mean, the start something.
- 1:09:17Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you.
- 1:09:19Start to read the you start to write the book.
- 1:09:24It's the song can can ask the gods and spirits for help you on
- 1:09:32the on this patch of your patch of your own patch.
- 1:09:37So this. Makes sense.
- 1:09:40And it's like, you know, the the the journey starts with the
- 1:09:43first step. You can't experience the journey
- 1:09:46until you take that first step. So preparing yourself for this
- 1:09:50journey. Yeah, I had AI had an
- 1:09:53interesting, like I had an interesting conversation last
- 1:09:58year with one of the elders of our community here.
- 1:10:01They were, they were talking about spirit journeying, you
- 1:10:06know, or sometimes it's like referred to times nowadays as
- 1:10:10astral projection where you leave your body, your body is
- 1:10:14staying here, but then you leave it to travel the spirit realms
- 1:10:17and and this and that. But he was breaking it down to
- 1:10:22be like, listen, if you go on a journey anywhere, we'll use the
- 1:10:26example of maybe getting onto a ship and you're sailing over the
- 1:10:30ocean, right? To sail to go somewhere.
- 1:10:34Well, you have a lot of things that you need to do before you
- 1:10:37even set foot on that ship, before you even set sail.
- 1:10:42Like you have to prepare, you have to make sure that there's
- 1:10:44no holes in your ship. You have to supply the ship with
- 1:10:47food and with other things to make sure that you're going to
- 1:10:50survive the journey. You have to make sure there's
- 1:10:53no, you know, storms ahead or if there are, how are you going to
- 1:10:57withstand and, and survive the storm?
- 1:11:00So everything about, it's not just about, well, here I am now
- 1:11:04and there's where I want to go. It's not about the destination,
- 1:11:08it's about the journey. It's about the path that you're
- 1:11:10on. And it's about preparing
- 1:11:12yourself for that. And it sounds like this is a,
- 1:11:15you know, if there's a, there's comparison with what you're
- 1:11:18saying, you know, the, this the, the, the, the ritual music, the
- 1:11:21the ceremonial aspect or, or parts of things is, is more
- 1:11:26about the journey. It's not so much about the
- 1:11:28destination. So yeah, I see that very, I see
- 1:11:33the comparisons. They're very closely.
- 1:11:36I have a couple more questions. Are you OK on time or yes, we're
- 1:11:40OK? But it's very, very warm here,
- 1:11:43OK? Well, I will, yeah.
- 1:11:45A couple of questions. It's OK.
- 1:11:48So I'll, I'll make it quick then so I don't way.
- 1:11:50I'm not keeping you uncomfortable for too long.
- 1:11:53Again, I mentioned before, I, I'm a heathen, A Germanic
- 1:11:56heathen. It's very different from the
- 1:11:59Slavic or the Baltic or the, you know, the Siberian side of
- 1:12:02things. There's been sharing of, of
- 1:12:05things throughout history, right?
- 1:12:06Cultures share things and we see that in, in, in, throughout
- 1:12:10history. But it's modern people, modern
- 1:12:13heathens, especially the type of things that you're doing with
- 1:12:16knit land. It resonates, it speaks to
- 1:12:18people. So how do you feel or how do you
- 1:12:23believe that your work in knit land supports or contributes to
- 1:12:29modern spiritual movements, whether it's Heathenry or
- 1:12:32paganism in the in the modern day?
- 1:12:34How do you feel that what you're doing is is able to support or
- 1:12:39or get or contribute to modern practices?
- 1:12:45Did I say it? Really, I don't know 'cause we
- 1:12:49are here when we OK, we are when we are not in tour, we are not
- 1:12:55we're when we are not touring, we'll spend all of time in our
- 1:12:59home, home place. So I don't know how it's
- 1:13:03connect. I, I'm, I'm very happy that
- 1:13:06people love this. I'm very happy that it's
- 1:13:08resonate with the people all over the world.
- 1:13:11That's more and more people feel this and I'm very happy that
- 1:13:15people, they're very interested, very interested about the
- 1:13:20tradition, the shamanic tradition that the culture, this
- 1:13:25and and also their own roots. As I told you before, it's very
- 1:13:28important right now, the people very tired from the modern, from
- 1:13:33the modern stuff. The people want to know what
- 1:13:38will be before the people very trying to connect their roots,
- 1:13:43trying to find something in the past and it's very important.
- 1:13:48I think this is, I think our music, like our music, it's it's
- 1:13:55very help us in this, in this way, yeah.
- 1:14:00In the. To feel our roots, to feel
- 1:14:04there's this resignation with the past, to feel this, all of
- 1:14:08this stuff. You.
- 1:14:09You talk. Yeah.
- 1:14:11And I think. I think the people who love our
- 1:14:14music, they feel the same. I'm, I think this, I'm very
- 1:14:18happy, Yeah. Especially because it's Natasha.
- 1:14:22Compose everything. Yeah, your work is being heard
- 1:14:26and seen by more people than you probably realized because of of
- 1:14:30your lifestyle. And it's it's so it's great.
- 1:14:33You know, the humbleness coming from you.
- 1:14:35It's, you know, you're, you're not.
- 1:14:37You're not. You know.
- 1:14:40Boastful, you know, proud of it, you know, you're proud of it.
- 1:14:43I'm sure of the work, but it's, it's the humbleness of, of what
- 1:14:46you're saying is, is coming through very beautifully.
- 1:14:49What do you hope people take away from your music?
- 1:14:52You know, beyond just the, the imagery, right?
- 1:14:55The, oh, they look cool in their outfits and their costumes, the
- 1:14:58paint, the, the, the music's video production is, is, is
- 1:15:02outstanding. Beyond those surface things.
- 1:15:05What do you hope for people to take away from what you're doing
- 1:15:10with Nitland with your music? Our I think our main way it's
- 1:15:21tell this story, these stories to the people over the World
- 1:15:29Travel over the world and tell the people about about Siberia
- 1:15:36in our music. I think this cause because
- 1:15:41usually when Natasha start to sing for me, I start to see
- 1:15:46something, you know, just ice, ice fields.
- 1:15:51So, and for me, I think yes, for me this for me is this.
- 1:15:57For me, this is the main, I think main option of our way.
- 1:16:04I think travel over the world and they tell people the stories
- 1:16:13from our homeland and from the past because we are very
- 1:16:18respectful for the past as historians.
- 1:16:22Only in this way you can be the good historian, only if you're
- 1:16:26very respectful and you love the past because the past, it's
- 1:16:30guiding us to the future. It does, yeah.
- 1:16:35The past does guide us towards that and it's bringing things
- 1:16:38from the past into the into the present, you know, because we
- 1:16:42are living in the present. So it's, it's all of these
- 1:16:45things from from before us that helped shape us to where we are
- 1:16:49now. So how do we carry that forth
- 1:16:51and how do we bring it into our daily lives and then to our
- 1:16:54existence and share it with people because it's what is
- 1:16:58going to shape the our future, you know, and not just our
- 1:17:02future because, you know, the things that we do now, we plant
- 1:17:05trees now because we want our future to have the shade of the
- 1:17:11tree. We're not going to enjoy the
- 1:17:12shade of that tree when we plant the tree now, we'll be gone.
- 1:17:16But our future, our generation, our children, they will enjoy
- 1:17:20the shade of the of the tree from the seeds that we plant
- 1:17:23now. So there's this, there's this
- 1:17:25love, there's this desire to make sure that they have those
- 1:17:28trees to sit under, you know, that they have that shade to to
- 1:17:32be cooled off in. And I see that in what you're
- 1:17:35doing. You know, this is a it's
- 1:17:37beautiful work. I have one more question and
- 1:17:40then I'm going to turn it over to you guys to kind of plug
- 1:17:42anything that you have coming up, you know, future projects,
- 1:17:45shows, tours, anything like that.
- 1:17:47But my last question for you is that if you could perform
- 1:17:50anywhere in the world, Siberia, South America, anywhere, no
- 1:17:57limits. You have, you know, no worries
- 1:18:00for money, you've got no worries for production.
- 1:18:02If you could play anywhere with no limits, what, what would you,
- 1:18:06what would your ideal setting be for a knit land ritual
- 1:18:09performance? You can come up with the most
- 1:18:12perfect perfect scenario. Natasha's ideal performance
- 1:18:31place for performance, it's it's Kamchatka near the volcano.
- 1:18:40Yes, 'cause in yes, the eastern north part of Siberia we have
- 1:18:47the region, the name Kamchatka, it's near from the Alaska.
- 1:18:53Yeah, yeah. It's and in Kamchatka they,
- 1:18:56it's, it's very beautiful. It's nature like they in Iceland
- 1:19:00and they have lot of volcano, lot of volcano and all the big
- 1:19:07and beautiful places. And it's not Asha's favorite.
- 1:19:11I think place for for me, maybe it's for me.
- 1:19:20Yes, I think the Mexican pyramids.
- 1:19:23Yes, yes, it's, it's one of my it's one of my favorite place in
- 1:19:29America. When we are going, every time we
- 1:19:32are, we have travel to Central South America.
- 1:19:36Every time I ask the promoter we need to visit the pyramids
- 1:19:41because I feel in this place, I feel something special.
- 1:19:45I don't know, but for me it's one of the most special places
- 1:19:52in the world. Cool, very cool.
- 1:19:55Thank you for that. I appreciate all your time and
- 1:19:58opening up to us here today and and sharing with my audience
- 1:20:02because you know, like I said, I've only found out about knit
- 1:20:05land, you know, less than five years ago.
- 1:20:07So I'm sure that there are still people.
- 1:20:09That are discovering, you know, what you're doing and I'm hoping
- 1:20:14that this helps kind of spread the awareness of what knit land
- 1:20:18is and and what you're both doing to preserve ancient
- 1:20:21traditions, share them with the world.
- 1:20:25So that kind of wraps it up for me.
- 1:20:27But I do want to kind of as a way roll out the red carpet for
- 1:20:30knit land for for Natasha and for Anatoly.
- 1:20:33Do you have anything that's on the horizon, whether it's music
- 1:20:37projects, albums, tours, anything that's coming up that
- 1:20:42you would like to announce to the people to be aware of?
- 1:20:46We're working the new songs of course, and Natasha work right
- 1:20:54now with also your solo project. It's also it's with the folk
- 1:21:00mixed the something with the techno and yes, it's they.
- 1:21:05She already have the two albums and right now she work on the
- 1:21:09third album. Awesome.
- 1:21:13It's just for fun, just not for so it's and yes, for Midland.
- 1:21:20Yes, we're working on the new songs because we were was very
- 1:21:24inspired from the songs of the shaman.
- 1:21:28It was for us like the warm up. I don't know.
- 1:21:33I think it's like the warm up, very, very, very big warm up for
- 1:21:38the new, for something big and new for Newland.
- 1:21:43And right now we have some ideas and we are realizing it in our
- 1:21:47studio, in our minds, in our. So it's a lot of work ahead, but
- 1:21:56it's very interesting. We love this, we love this.
- 1:21:59So it's it's the huggy. Yuggy for you.
- 1:22:01Yeah, it's that, yeah. I think yes, yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:06Where can people find you? Social media anywhere, you know,
- 1:22:10I know you have Facebook and Instagram.
- 1:22:13Yeah, it's Instagram. Facebook it's usually it's most
- 1:22:16easy way just Instagram, Facebook, we are not working
- 1:22:20good with the social medias. It's we are not working like the
- 1:22:27of course, sometimes I mean there's some accounts of some
- 1:22:30musicians I see. Oh, so they're doing the big
- 1:22:34job. I'm no I I can post the photos
- 1:22:37and some texts. It's a lot.
- 1:22:40Of work just to manage social media, especially when you're
- 1:22:43independent and you're doing it all yourself.
- 1:22:46Trust me, I know because this show, I'm the host, I'm the
- 1:22:51producer, I'm the manager, I'm the social media person, I'm
- 1:22:54everything. You know you wear many hats, so
- 1:22:57yeah, the. The same we are musicians,
