- 0:10Speaker 3: waiting for the and there they go, almost on time.
- 0:13Speaker 2: This morning.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Mom is coming out the front door strong with a
- 0:17Speaker 3: double arm kid carry. Looks like Dad has the bags.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh, but the diaper
- 0:23Speaker 3: bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Ooh, but mom has just.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Nailed the perfect car seat buckle for the toddler. And
- 0:33Speaker 3: now the eldest daughter, who looks to be about nine
- 0:35Speaker 3: or ten, has secured herself in the booster seat. Dad
- 0:38Speaker 3: zips the bag closed and they're off.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Ah.
- 0:42Speaker 3: It looks like Mom doesn't realize her coffee cup is
- 0:44Speaker 3: still on the roof of the car and there it goes. Oh,
- 0:49Speaker 3: that's a shame.
- 0:49Speaker 2: That mug was a fam favorite.

- 1:32Speaker 8: AM, The Zone, ninety three seven FM.
- 1:36Speaker 2: What a glorious day.
- 1:37Speaker 6: I mean when the text came in last week and
- 1:41Speaker 6: full disclosure, I was in preparation for our rotary conference
- 1:46Speaker 6: last weekend. Yeah, like my mind was totally focused on absolutely.
- 1:49Speaker 6: But when he sent that text, it's like, hey, guys
- 1:52Speaker 6: need somebody for Thursday. I looked at the schedule and
- 1:55Speaker 6: I was like, Oh, we got to find a way
- 1:57Speaker 6: to make this work because it's gonna to be after
- 2:00Speaker 6: Game four and at that pivotal Game four and at
- 2:04Speaker 6: that point in time, I'm trying to remember when the
- 2:06Speaker 6: text came Knicks had a one game one, had won
- 2:13Speaker 6: Game one. Game two is gonna be on Friday and
- 2:18Speaker 6: so and based on the way they played in game one.
- 2:20Speaker 6: It was like and like you were pointing out game two.
- 2:23Speaker 6: This was probably the most pivotal Game two, or the
- 2:26Speaker 6: most important Game two, because if the Knicks win in
- 2:29Speaker 6: San Antonio, they could sweep Yes. So it was like,
- 2:34Speaker 6: we have we have to make next Thursday work. And
- 2:37Speaker 6: my goodness, where we gifted something? Because as I texted
- 2:42Speaker 6: you or and I put and I put it out.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Last night.
- 2:47Speaker 6: We were at Shipwreck watching the game, eating dinner late,
- 2:51Speaker 6: so we left. It was maybe late third quarter, maybe
- 2:55Speaker 6: the beginning the fourth quarter, and the Spurs were up
- 2:58Speaker 6: over twenty and we had to drive down Texas Avenue
- 3:02Speaker 6: because of course Highway six south bound was closed. So
- 3:04Speaker 6: it took a little long, but about fifteen almost twenty
- 3:09Speaker 6: minutes of real time. And when I get in the
- 3:12Speaker 6: house and get the TV on and get it switched
- 3:15Speaker 6: over to the game, and all of a sudden, it's
- 3:17Speaker 6: a five point difference, and within the next two minutes
- 3:21Speaker 6: of real time the Knicks take a one point lead.
- 3:25Speaker 6: I am just like, what the heck happened?
- 3:29Speaker 8: Oh and you said it got it got It was
- 3:31Speaker 8: a twenty nine point lead at one point that they
- 3:36Speaker 8: had in the third quarter.
- 3:39Speaker 2: It got to.
- 3:39Speaker 8: Twenty nine points, and that is a lot of people
- 3:44Speaker 8: are choosing to say that it is the largest comeback
- 3:48Speaker 8: in finals history, in NBABA playoff history. I'm choosing to
- 3:52Speaker 8: go the other direction and say it is the biggest collapse.
- 3:56Speaker 6: And that's why, that's why I made teen. That's why
- 3:59Speaker 6: I made sure we played the Charles Barkley rant from
- 4:02Speaker 6: last night, because it's true. It is absolutely true.
- 4:07Speaker 8: It is one true, and so we will get I
- 4:10Speaker 8: mean so much to get into about last night, about
- 4:13Speaker 8: this series, about everything that is going on again game one,
- 4:18Speaker 8: Game two, Game three, and the way things were going
- 4:21Speaker 8: with that.
- 4:21Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know about you, but coming coming
- 4:23Speaker 6: knowing that we were hosting on Thursday and after game three,
- 4:26Speaker 6: just trying to figure out, Okay, what's our narratives gonna
- 4:29Speaker 6: be as we're because obviously Game four will have transpired,
- 4:31Speaker 6: And then watching Game four last night, it's like I
- 4:34Speaker 6: was all prepared to come in here with a a
- 4:38Speaker 6: tied it to two games apiece, going back to San Antonio,
- 4:41Speaker 6: this sucker may go to seven, and we I got
- 4:44Speaker 6: no clue what it's good. I don't think it may
- 4:46Speaker 6: go to seven. San Antonio may just close out in
- 4:49Speaker 6: the next two games and literally twenty minutes changed all.
- 4:52Speaker 8: Everything, because yes, that was so yeah, all of how
- 4:56Speaker 8: this series, the up the ebbs and flows, the ups
- 4:59Speaker 8: and downs of this series, and how huge it is,
- 5:02Speaker 8: Like I cannot imagine what it was like in that
- 5:05Speaker 8: arena last last night, Like.
- 5:08Speaker 6: That is the one thing.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I mean.
- 5:10Speaker 6: I appreciate ABC and the USPN trying to do their
- 5:13Speaker 6: best to capture the ambient noise of the Mecca, but
- 5:17Speaker 6: I'm with you, like I cannot imagine just watching the
- 5:21Speaker 6: crowd when they when they would go to the wide
- 5:23Speaker 6: angle and you would just see everyone on their feet
- 5:27Speaker 6: and you just and based on what I've been told
- 5:30Speaker 6: about being in MSG, they the roof is constructed in
- 5:35Speaker 6: a perfect way that the harmonics from ground level up
- 5:40Speaker 6: just resonate and so it's not like sound is bouncing off,
- 5:43Speaker 6: but it amplifies everything. So it's just a constant noise that,
- 5:50Speaker 6: especially when that crowd is as jacked up as they
- 5:54Speaker 6: had to be going into the final couple minutes of
- 5:56Speaker 6: that game, you can only imagine just how loud it
- 5:59Speaker 6: was in there.
- 6:00Speaker 8: Yeah, it is unbelievable. Again, fighting back from twenty nine
- 6:05Speaker 8: points down, so much that we're going to get into
- 6:08Speaker 8: and break down that game. World Cup has started. We
- 6:11Speaker 8: are going to uh, I believe if Mexico has not
- 6:15Speaker 8: won already, if it hasn't gone final, they're getting close
- 6:18Speaker 8: to that.
- 6:18Speaker 6: They were up two to two zero and it's gone fine.
- 6:20Speaker 8: It has gone final. So the World Cup has officially started.
- 6:25Speaker 8: We are going to get into some predictions, you and
- 6:28Speaker 8: I on that. As you both pointed out, we're gonna
- 6:31Speaker 8: You said we're gonna pick five teams.
- 6:32Speaker 6: We're gonna pick five teams each. So for historical context,
- 6:35Speaker 6: World Cup's been around since nineteen thirty, only eight countries
- 6:40Speaker 6: have ever won it. One of those countries is not
- 6:44Speaker 6: in the tournament this year, so that's that leaves seven.
- 6:48Speaker 6: So I figure, for the sake of fairness and also
- 6:51Speaker 6: just for entertainment value, will each choose five. So, and
- 6:55Speaker 6: I'm going to give you the option to either go
- 6:57Speaker 6: first or if we snake draft, you'll get to pick
- 7:00Speaker 6: two and three, right, but just let's pick five. Obviously
- 7:03Speaker 6: we're probably gonna pick the seven, and then they'll give
- 7:06Speaker 6: us a couple extras that we may just be watching
- 7:09Speaker 6: for for fun.
- 7:10Speaker 8: So if you have over the the last couple of
- 7:14Speaker 8: years specifically listened to Jared and I when we've taken
- 7:17Speaker 8: over for Chip, you know that there is absolutely no
- 7:20Speaker 8: way possible that we would let today pass without talking
- 7:23Speaker 8: about college football, college sports. What is going on there
- 7:27Speaker 8: with Texas Tech and their quarterback Soresby and the ever widening,
- 7:33Speaker 8: ever growing just backlash and like everything that continues to
- 7:40Speaker 8: go on when it comes to college sports and the
- 7:44Speaker 8: NCAA and everything that goes on with that.
- 7:46Speaker 6: So the last time we were both in studio, I
- 7:51Speaker 6: was in DC. I'm not blaming you. I'm not blaming
- 7:54Speaker 6: you at all. Yes, the last time we actually hate,
- 7:59Speaker 6: we actually managed it worked out, it worked out great.
- 8:03Speaker 6: But the last time we were both you and I
- 8:04Speaker 6: were both in the studio, that's when this story first
- 8:06Speaker 6: came out. When it first came out, the Brandon Soresby,
- 8:09Speaker 6: the recently transferred quarterback to Texas Tech, was uh seeking
- 8:16Speaker 6: rehab for a gambling addiction, and then it came out
- 8:21Speaker 6: just how prolific his gambling you was and one of
- 8:27Speaker 6: the big things, and we thought, I mean, I'm I'm sorry.
- 8:32Speaker 6: I think we share this sentiment. I'm pretty sure it's
- 8:34Speaker 6: shared again. It's the shared cinnament of everybody that's outside
- 8:37Speaker 6: of Lubbott County that or has not, uh you know,
- 8:42Speaker 6: thrown a tortilla in their life. There is one thing
- 8:47Speaker 6: that is the death nail of your sports career, and
- 8:50Speaker 6: that is when you gamble, when you place bets on.
- 8:55Speaker 8: Your own team, and especially against your own.
- 9:01Speaker 6: The greatest hitter in the history of Major League Baseball
- 9:04Speaker 6: died without going into the Hall of Fame because of this. Absolutely,
- 9:09Speaker 6: as far as I know, every sports governing body in
- 9:16Speaker 6: the world has the ability to ban a player for
- 9:22Speaker 6: this cardinal sin, which by the way, apparently sits above
- 9:27Speaker 6: just about every other sin, because you know, we can
- 9:29Speaker 6: talk about Ray Rice and the video and the elevator
- 9:32Speaker 6: in anything else, but this is the cardinal sin. But
- 9:35Speaker 6: there is one organization that is just sofeckless that a
- 9:43Speaker 6: judge can be pulled out of retirement and a kangaroo
- 9:48Speaker 6: court and rule that for the mental well beam he
- 9:54Speaker 6: needs to play football despite the fact committing the cardinal sin.
- 9:59Speaker 8: And that's why I say, if you've listened to Jared
- 10:00Speaker 8: and I at any point in time, you know that
- 10:02Speaker 8: we talk about these kinds of discussions. I have a
- 10:06Speaker 8: reason for that that we will get into a little
- 10:09Speaker 8: bit later again, lots of stuff for us to be
- 10:11Speaker 8: able to get into one thing that I do, and
- 10:13Speaker 8: you and I talk about the business and the financial
- 10:16Speaker 8: sport a lot. This first thing that has come back
- 10:18Speaker 8: up again that just happened to Patrick Mahomes is going
- 10:22Speaker 8: to get a half a billion dollars. Yes, they extended
- 10:26Speaker 8: his contract out and so it is mostly guaranteed, but
- 10:30Speaker 8: they have him through twenty thirty three, and he the
- 10:33Speaker 8: total value of the contract is five hundred and four
- 10:37Speaker 8: million dollars.
- 10:38Speaker 6: And keep in mind, because you know, we've been doing
- 10:42Speaker 6: this for what fourteen years, yet somewhere in the time,
- 10:45Speaker 6: I think this is the third time we've been in
- 10:47Speaker 6: here when the Patrick Mahomes contract has been either extended
- 10:52Speaker 6: when he worked or something like that. Something tells me,
- 10:56Speaker 6: assuming CHIP allows us to keep coming back over the
- 10:58Speaker 6: next I don't know, two to three years, we're gonna
- 11:01Speaker 6: see it again. And this number is just gonna get
- 11:04Speaker 6: bigger because you cannot overstate the now. Granted that's all
- 11:09Speaker 6: predicated on health health, Yes, coming off of repairing the
- 11:14Speaker 6: ACL and coming back, but even even if he's not
- 11:19Speaker 6: as mobile as he was, you still can't understate his
- 11:25Speaker 6: importance in the pocket as as a throwing quarterback.
- 11:29Speaker 8: And I think that's what's going to make the difference
- 11:31Speaker 8: in the and why they are okay with shelling out
- 11:36Speaker 8: this much money. One, he's already proved what They've got
- 11:39Speaker 8: three super bowls and three Super Bowl wins and five
- 11:42Speaker 8: trips in his time so far. Like absolutely, he has
- 11:46Speaker 8: earned this amount of money and goodwill with the Chiefs
- 11:51Speaker 8: because Lord only knows what they've made on their end
- 11:54Speaker 8: of this through through their deals and everything they've been ogain.
- 11:58Speaker 2: So you have that.
- 11:58Speaker 8: But also and more I think he is he is
- 12:02Speaker 8: not known to be a mobile quarterback. He's known to
- 12:04Speaker 8: be an elusive quarterback. He's known to get out of
- 12:07Speaker 8: things and away from things, But he is not known
- 12:10Speaker 8: to be the the quote unquote mobile quarterback or the
- 12:14Speaker 8: quote unquote running quarterback. And so you're right if he
- 12:17Speaker 8: is able to and by all by all reports right
- 12:21Speaker 8: now he's ahead of schedule when it comes to the
- 12:25Speaker 8: rehab of his knee. If he's able to come back
- 12:28Speaker 8: and be okay from that this, the Chiefs are getting
- 12:33Speaker 8: a steal when it comes to what they get from him.
- 12:36Speaker 6: And I would say for the most part. The decline
- 12:39Speaker 6: of Patrick Mahomes, I think is more a factor of
- 12:42Speaker 6: the talent and the weapons they have lacked to put
- 12:49Speaker 6: around him in the absence of Tyreek Hill and the
- 12:55Speaker 6: fact that you know, you do have a declining Travis Kelcey.
- 12:59Speaker 6: I mean, he's a three year deal, but the expectation
- 13:01Speaker 6: is he's only He's probably only gonna play this one
- 13:03Speaker 6: more year. But I mean, you know, if you can
- 13:06Speaker 6: surround him with good young talent, and especially if you
- 13:08Speaker 6: can get good running backs behind him, and I would
- 13:11Speaker 6: dare say, get the get the offensive line healthy in front,
- 13:14Speaker 6: because that's also been problematic.
- 13:17Speaker 2: He's running for his life exactly.
- 13:19Speaker 6: You do those things. And I mean, the dude, I'm
- 13:23Speaker 6: not saying the dude can go the Tom Brady length
- 13:25Speaker 6: of a career, but he can definitely at least get
- 13:27Speaker 6: to the Peyton Manning or the Drew Brees duration of yes.
- 13:31Speaker 8: And that's the thing, like I think, if you want
- 13:33Speaker 8: to look at if there has been any kind of
- 13:36Speaker 8: a slide when he was in his early twenties, and
- 13:39Speaker 8: just get in the league and just it didn't matter
- 13:42Speaker 8: who was out there, Like if the offensive line was
- 13:45Speaker 8: was bad, Okay, no matter no, no matter he get out
- 13:47Speaker 8: of the pocket, he could find those receivers. And it's
- 13:49Speaker 8: not that I think that his skills have declined that much.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It is that yet you're gonna slow down a little
- 13:56Speaker 2: bit with with with age. And so yeah, they an injury.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I mean they got.
- 14:01Speaker 8: The chiefs were spoiled, and I say the chiefs Andy
- 14:03Speaker 8: Reid and that offensive staff were spoiled. Thinking that and
- 14:07Speaker 8: rightfully spoiled. I'm not saying it's it's their fault that
- 14:10Speaker 8: they weren't spoiled, but they were spoiled by Patrick Mahomes.
- 14:12Speaker 8: And now they're at a point where, you know what,
- 14:14Speaker 8: he's got to have something around him. It doesn't have
- 14:16Speaker 8: to be everything, and they're lucky with that, but they've
- 14:18Speaker 8: got to have something with them. And you hit it perfectly,
- 14:21Speaker 8: and it's going to start with the offensive line. Yeah,
- 14:22Speaker 8: he's got to have time.
- 14:23Speaker 6: He's got to have time. And again, this is the
- 14:30Speaker 6: second season ending injury to the right leg, I believe,
- 14:34Speaker 6: and so yeah, it's you're probably gonna see a slight
- 14:38Speaker 6: difference of going in the next year. But at the
- 14:41Speaker 6: same time, he has proven that he can improvise, he
- 14:44Speaker 6: has great field awareness and again Andy Reid has been
- 14:49Speaker 6: able to put together offensive packages that make him the
- 14:55Speaker 6: number one sought after quarterback in the league.
- 14:57Speaker 8: We're going to take a break, come back in just
- 14:59Speaker 8: a second, and we're going to tell you everything that
- 15:01Speaker 8: is going wrong in Lubbock right now.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Jason and Jerrett taking over CHIP.

- 15:38Speaker 10: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 15:40Speaker 10: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 15:42Speaker 10: I found Shulty Roofing and boy, I'm glad I did.
- 15:45Speaker 10: The folks at Shulty guided me every step of the way.
- 15:48Speaker 10: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 15:50Speaker 10: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 15:53Speaker 10: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 15:57Speaker 10: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 15:59Speaker 10: did all the clean up up, and I had my
- 16:00Speaker 10: new roof in one day.
- 16:05Speaker 8: The having Canty and Michelle are unsportsman Life.
- 16:12Speaker 11: Twenty years ago this month, the Miami Heat won their
- 16:14Speaker 11: first championship. In the middle of the locker room, there
- 16:16Speaker 11: was this big circle. It was covered and they had
- 16:19Speaker 11: this whole mantra fifteen Strong and pat Riley had these
- 16:22Speaker 11: cards that are motivational tokens and they would put them
- 16:24Speaker 11: in this thing like every day, but they would cover
- 16:26Speaker 11: it so we couldn't see it. That was their mantra
- 16:28Speaker 11: fifteen shrom.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Wasn't that the plot?
- 16:30Speaker 4: The Major League unsportsman Like listen in weekday mornings from
- 16:34Speaker 4: five to eight on the Zone eleven and ninety three
- 16:37Speaker 4: point seven FM.
- 17:08Speaker 12: You Got.
- 17:15Speaker 8: I'm Society, Chip Hower, Sports Talk, Sports Ready eleven fifty AM,
- 17:25Speaker 8: The Own ninety three seven f M. Jason Cornelia is
- 17:27Speaker 8: Jared Hicks in today for chip Man, starting off obviously
- 17:32Speaker 8: starting off for summertime, because again, yeah, it is actually summertime.
- 17:37Speaker 6: As soon as June, as soon as the calendar across
- 17:39Speaker 6: June first, that song is eligible to play. There is
- 17:41Speaker 6: something else that is now eligible to play when Jason
- 17:44Speaker 6: and Jared are in studio, and you will hear that
- 17:46Speaker 6: in the second hour.
- 17:46Speaker 2: It sounds good.
- 17:47Speaker 8: Uh, And then like that is that first TLC album
- 17:52Speaker 8: was just like it was, and I know that's where
- 17:55Speaker 8: they were at the time, and then you get too crazy,
- 17:57Speaker 8: like they grew up and so obviously the music was
- 17:59Speaker 8: going to grow with them, and I love how their
- 18:02Speaker 8: music changed. But that first album was just for like
- 18:06Speaker 8: all fun and just.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Again go back to just what is that nineteen ninety two,
- 18:14Speaker 6: nineties believe too, Yeah, and just everything that was great
- 18:18Speaker 6: about that period of time. Michael Jordan's first three, first
- 18:22Speaker 6: three championships, the Dallas Cowboys are winning championships. You're still
- 18:28Speaker 6: playing Sega Genesis, which means games are affordable. CDs are
- 18:36Speaker 6: just coming out, so we're still in the cassette era
- 18:38Speaker 6: and you've got radio stations playing awesome music.
- 18:41Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 8: I was just talking today about how it was when
- 18:49Speaker 8: you went like because I was asking Wesley what it
- 18:51Speaker 8: is like what music he listens to, and he really
- 18:53Speaker 8: does it like he liked, but he really didn't because
- 18:56Speaker 8: he's been inquired, but like he doesn't. And I'm like,
- 18:59Speaker 8: am I f as a father because like he doesn't
- 19:02Speaker 8: have like a.
- 19:04Speaker 6: Like I would tell you no, because I mean I
- 19:07Speaker 6: remember growing up and especially when I was younger, And
- 19:11Speaker 6: I know we're getting off topic here. My parents had
- 19:15Speaker 6: a very extensive record collection, but most of that was
- 19:17Speaker 6: sixties and seventies in some of the early eighties, right,
- 19:21Speaker 6: And so not only did I grow up listening to
- 19:27Speaker 6: like the Jackson five Greatest Hits and Paul Revere and
- 19:30Speaker 6: the Raiders and Chicago, and my dad had all sorts
- 19:34Speaker 6: of seventies R and B. Because the record I think
- 19:38Speaker 6: we've had this conversation before. The record store in Odessa,
- 19:41Speaker 6: when certain out albums were not selling well, they put
- 19:45Speaker 6: him in the discount bin. And that's what he would do.
- 19:47Speaker 6: You'd go in there and buy like twenty albums for
- 19:49Speaker 6: like five bucks. But at the same time, you have
- 19:53Speaker 6: the emergence of MTV. So I'm starting to see like
- 19:57Speaker 6: Genesis and Cindy Lapper and things like that. And then
- 20:02Speaker 6: you know, once we move here and you've got you know,
- 20:06Speaker 6: multiple radio stations both locally and in the surrounding communities
- 20:09Speaker 6: that you can listen to. Now you're getting just more
- 20:11Speaker 6: and more exposure. And so I don't know if they're
- 20:14Speaker 6: at that point in time. If I would when I
- 20:16Speaker 6: was Wesley's age, at that point in my life, if
- 20:18Speaker 6: I would say, if there was one definitive genre of
- 20:22Speaker 6: music that I truly liked, because I really liked listening.
- 20:25Speaker 2: To all of it.
- 20:26Speaker 8: Well, and here's two things that we said, and you
- 20:28Speaker 8: you mentioned one of them is absolutely true that when
- 20:34Speaker 8: we were when we didn't have it. Like if right now,
- 20:36Speaker 8: if Wesley's in the car with me, he's got earbuds in, yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 8: he's not paying any attention to what like I had
- 20:42Speaker 8: on the radio, and so like that's part of why
- 20:45Speaker 8: he's We were forced to listen to what our parents
- 20:48Speaker 8: were talking about. And so that's one thing. The other
- 20:50Speaker 8: thing and you like, there, what was what was the
- 20:52Speaker 8: record store? A postook? Like I was like I was
- 20:54Speaker 8: when I was talking earlier, I was like I remember,
- 20:56Speaker 8: like I remember like liking to go to Hastings, but
- 21:00Speaker 8: that was it Culpepper. Yeah, and so but you go
- 21:02Speaker 8: to Hastings and you're like kind of similar, like you're
- 21:05Speaker 8: you're you're looking at everything, like you're going through where
- 21:07Speaker 8: you're gonna get a music poster, where you're gonna.
- 21:09Speaker 6: Get you cam all had two record stores, and depending
- 21:11Speaker 6: on which entrance you came or which entrance you came
- 21:14Speaker 6: into kind of dictated which one you went to. Now
- 21:17Speaker 6: I know there was a store that eventually became a
- 21:19Speaker 6: Sam Goodies, So we.
- 21:21Speaker 8: Had a Sam Goodies. Okay, I couldn't remember if we
- 21:23Speaker 8: actually had a Sam Goodies.
- 21:24Speaker 6: We never had We never had a Tower Record and
- 21:27Speaker 6: we never had oh, what's the other one that was
- 21:31Speaker 6: very park. But basically, if you came in through service Merchandise,
- 21:35Speaker 6: there was a there was a record store like straight
- 21:38Speaker 6: ahead right next to the U. Was it Pete Dalton's
- 21:43Speaker 6: Country where or whatever it was? I think there was
- 21:45Speaker 6: Cavender's in them all at that point in time. Anyway,
- 21:47Speaker 6: it was right there. And then if you came in
- 21:50Speaker 6: through the I guess what is technically the main entrance
- 21:53Speaker 6: facing Highway six, that is where there was the music
- 21:57Speaker 6: store that I believe eventually became the Sam Goodies was,
- 22:00Speaker 6: which is now where the kid's foot locker?
- 22:03Speaker 2: And hot topic is Okay, I got.
- 22:05Speaker 6: So I believe those were the two.
- 22:07Speaker 8: So those are the two things that we were talking
- 22:09Speaker 8: about as far as like I he he doesn't have
- 22:13Speaker 8: to listen to what I'm listening to because he's got
- 22:16Speaker 8: he's got a number of other different things to be
- 22:19Speaker 8: able to do even while we're in the car.
- 22:20Speaker 2: But then too, like there's.
- 22:22Speaker 8: I remember, like you, I enjoyed, like you look forward
- 22:25Speaker 8: to going there and figure out what music is it.
- 22:26Speaker 8: But then the other thing that you just talked about,
- 22:28Speaker 8: like MTV or B E T or whatever the the
- 22:34Speaker 8: situation was. I still remember whatever it was when I
- 22:36Speaker 8: would go to Atlanta, the the did we have that here?
- 22:39Speaker 8: Also the channel to where you could pay to have
- 22:42Speaker 8: the songs play, because I remember that in Atlanta. I
- 22:45Speaker 8: don't remember what what it was or what it would
- 22:47Speaker 8: be called, but like you could you could call in
- 22:49Speaker 8: and play to have the video or oh no, I
- 22:51Speaker 8: didn't think we had that here and so but yeah,
- 22:53Speaker 8: you could call like it was pay to play basically
- 22:56Speaker 8: MTV that they had in Atlanta when I would go
- 22:58Speaker 8: go visit and so.
- 22:59Speaker 2: We we never did it because we didn't have that.
- 23:01Speaker 8: We were definitely not gonna put us a ninety nine
- 23:04Speaker 8: cent charge on my grandmother's phone bill. That was not
- 23:07Speaker 8: about to happen. However, you just sit there and watch
- 23:09Speaker 8: that channel all day and wait for somebody else to
- 23:11Speaker 8: play a song, and then you would and then so.
- 23:14Speaker 2: But those are all things I'm.
- 23:15Speaker 6: Like, So I'm gonna do a little shameless promotion for
- 23:18Speaker 6: the company here. The other night, my daughters are listening
- 23:22Speaker 6: to Candy ninety five after hours, and they want to
- 23:24Speaker 6: request a song now for me, for Ann and myself.
- 23:28Speaker 6: We grew up doing that all the time into the
- 23:31Speaker 6: radio station.
- 23:32Speaker 2: And you require rest a song.
- 23:34Speaker 6: This was their first time to do it. So I'm
- 23:37Speaker 6: sitting there with them trying to explain. It's like, okay,
- 23:40Speaker 6: call the number, which, by the way, this was kind
- 23:43Speaker 6: of funny. The nighttime number is eighty five Candy or
- 23:48Speaker 6: something like that. They didn't know. Do I have to
- 23:51Speaker 6: push the number three times for the sea? It was like, no,
- 23:54Speaker 6: that's not the way it works. But then call in
- 23:59Speaker 6: and it picks up right away, which I was kind
- 24:02Speaker 6: of surprised by because I remember whenever you would call
- 24:04Speaker 6: into the radio station. So typically you're on hold and
- 24:07Speaker 6: they request their song. Well it's it's already been requested,
- 24:11Speaker 6: is there? You got another one? And then they're thinking
- 24:12Speaker 6: about it, thinking about they say it and then DJ
- 24:16Speaker 6: and I apologize, I don't know his name of it's
- 24:17Speaker 6: the top of my head. Wants to talk to him,
- 24:20Speaker 6: and and Peyton's just like what do I say? It's
- 24:22Speaker 6: like he wants to talk to you. Talk to him,
- 24:25Speaker 6: because that's how it's the beauty of uh when you
- 24:30Speaker 6: would call into the radio station and talk to the DJ,
- 24:32Speaker 6: because they're trying, you know, they're trying to learn about
- 24:35Speaker 6: you and learn about what music, you know, what you'd
- 24:37Speaker 6: like to hear, because that's gonna help them to know.
- 24:39Speaker 6: It's like, hey, if my audience is not only requesting
- 24:42Speaker 6: the song this particular song, but it's request you know,
- 24:45Speaker 6: likes this genre music, let me see if I can
- 24:48Speaker 6: find another track on the album, then maybe.
- 24:49Speaker 8: They can pick up to so you know, those are
- 24:51Speaker 8: all the things. So yeah, that's what I was thinking
- 24:53Speaker 8: about while we were talking to and I'm like, now, logan,
- 24:56Speaker 8: my daughter, she's completely the the moment that she gets
- 25:00Speaker 8: in the car, meet dad, can you turn around Canny
- 25:02Speaker 8: ninety five. Like the second that that we are in
- 25:06Speaker 8: the car, she is, she is ready to listen to
- 25:08Speaker 8: to Cana ninety five. So I guess it's just the
- 25:10Speaker 8: difference in in the kids and and how they are.
- 25:13Speaker 2: But yeah, she as I'm thinking about them. Well, yeah,
- 25:15Speaker 2: she she are.
- 25:16Speaker 8: And it's obviously more pop music and kind of she's
- 25:21Speaker 8: a girl obviously and going down that that genre of
- 25:24Speaker 8: more lighthearted, more fun, more girl pop stuff like that.
- 25:28Speaker 2: And so those other things.
- 25:29Speaker 8: But yeah, I was thinking about it with Wesley ere
- 25:31Speaker 8: and I'm like, am oh am I failing as as
- 25:34Speaker 8: a father.
- 25:35Speaker 6: Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna ask if if you fall
- 25:38Speaker 6: in this category, just because y'all would go out to
- 25:41Speaker 6: Atlanta and I'm presuming y'all would.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Drive you went away.
- 25:44Speaker 6: Yeah it was.
- 25:45Speaker 2: It was, Yeah, it was. It was.
- 25:46Speaker 8: It was the fourteen or fifteen hour drive out there
- 25:48Speaker 8: at the time, especially.
- 25:49Speaker 6: So we we had we had the we had the
- 25:51Speaker 6: drive to and from Odessa, so we're driving across the
- 25:54Speaker 6: state of Texas. So when we were making that trip,
- 25:56Speaker 6: and especially if we're making that trip back, that's typically
- 25:59Speaker 6: on a for those who totally forget or you know,
- 26:04Speaker 6: and we have an older audience, so they can't remember
- 26:06Speaker 6: this Sunday Mornings on radio. That's your Top forty countdown. Yes,
- 26:10Speaker 6: so as we're as we are traversing the state of
- 26:12Speaker 6: Tech across the strait of the state of Texas, you're
- 26:15Speaker 6: going to pick up and then lose radio stations. So
- 26:20Speaker 6: that became that kind of became the game. Is when
- 26:23Speaker 6: you're leaving Odessa, you start with the Top forty countdown,
- 26:27Speaker 6: you get as far as you can, and now you're
- 26:28Speaker 6: trying to pick up a station, maybe in San Angelo,
- 26:30Speaker 6: maybe somewhere in the middle of Texas, and you're hoping,
- 26:33Speaker 6: like heck.
- 26:34Speaker 2: That they still have that they're they're.
- 26:36Speaker 6: Picking up where the other one left off, because God forbid,
- 26:38Speaker 6: you have to start over. And it's like, now we
- 26:40Speaker 6: got to listen to damn Yankees again. Then you get
- 26:45Speaker 6: past central Texas. Now you're getting a little bit closer home,
- 26:48Speaker 6: but you still got about four hours to go, and
- 26:49Speaker 6: now you're picking up your Waco area stations. Please let
- 26:54Speaker 6: us be further in the countdown. No damn Yankees high
- 26:57Speaker 6: again at number twenty eight.
- 26:59Speaker 2: So guess what, No I see.
- 27:00Speaker 8: And that's the difference in when you're going across I
- 27:04Speaker 8: guess tech, well, I'm sure it's the same way, but
- 27:06Speaker 8: like going through five different states to get to Georgia,
- 27:09Speaker 8: like it was trying to find, like what genre was
- 27:14Speaker 8: going to be next, depending on what part of Louisiana
- 27:16Speaker 8: and we're in, what part of Mississippi we're in, what
- 27:20Speaker 8: part of Alabama we're in, and so figuring out the genre,
- 27:23Speaker 8: of figuring out and so.
- 27:25Speaker 2: But that's where I where.
- 27:26Speaker 8: I was kind of starting that question earlier of am
- 27:29Speaker 8: I failing Wesley, but also where I appreciate my dad
- 27:32Speaker 8: and just like.
- 27:33Speaker 2: You were saying with your with your parents.
- 27:36Speaker 8: We could find something like it didn't have to be
- 27:39Speaker 8: just R and B or especially younger, like heaven forbid
- 27:42Speaker 8: finding a hip hop station now driving that's all like
- 27:45Speaker 8: you can find a hip hop station anywhere now, But
- 27:48Speaker 8: that was not but finding an R and B station,
- 27:50Speaker 8: but yeah, finding a pop station, like And that's where
- 27:53Speaker 8: I do appreciate that my dad gave me such a
- 27:56Speaker 8: wide range of music to where it wasn't just like
- 27:58Speaker 8: I'm miserable in the back seat because now we're listening
- 28:01Speaker 8: to country.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I'm like, no, there's some country music that I like. Yeah,
- 28:04Speaker 2: and we figure that out.
- 28:05Speaker 8: And so now maybe that's one of the things that
- 28:08Speaker 8: I'll do the next time, Like, no, you're not putting
- 28:10Speaker 8: take your headphones off, take your eybuds out. We are
- 28:12Speaker 8: listening to some music right now.
- 28:14Speaker 6: And that's one of the great things when you know
- 28:17Speaker 6: we're we're driving the soccer tournaments or we're driving the
- 28:19Speaker 6: softball tournaments. Got the giant screen there, and it's got
- 28:22Speaker 6: all the state, all my favorite, all the favorited stations,
- 28:25Speaker 6: and it shows artists, but it doesn't show songs. So
- 28:28Speaker 6: we're looking and it's like, Okay, yeah, nineties is playing
- 28:32Speaker 6: right now. Chris alexis on nineties, so we know that's wicked,
- 28:35Speaker 6: wicked game. Don't need to listen to that and just
- 28:37Speaker 6: don't care about that. But over there on the poet
- 28:41Speaker 6: but on the poles, okay, we've got Zara Larson. All right,
- 28:46Speaker 6: I'll put that on for you all. Y'all want to
- 28:47Speaker 6: listen to that. Obviously, when when tea Swizzle comes on,
- 28:50Speaker 6: we flip over.
- 28:51Speaker 2: To see what it is.
- 28:52Speaker 6: But I will say this, I will say this, the girls,
- 28:55Speaker 6: I would I'm ballparking at sixty percent of the songs
- 28:58Speaker 6: that are typically playing. They're like yeah, you can, you
- 29:00Speaker 6: can change it. Okay, It's like a few, a select
- 29:03Speaker 6: few they want to hear, but a number of them
- 29:05Speaker 6: they're like, no, we're good, and I appreciate that.
- 29:07Speaker 8: Absolutely. I promise we're gonna come back and talks.
- 29:12Speaker 6: For Are we had to go down this rabbit hole?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it came up and there's no way to stop.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Ads. We're trying to educate our kids on great musical
- 29:22Speaker 6: knowledge and to have a breadth of musical knowledge.
- 29:26Speaker 8: Ay, why yes, a very wide range, which is what
- 29:28Speaker 8: our parents gave to us. But when we come back,
- 29:30Speaker 8: I am itching to talk about what is going on
- 29:32Speaker 8: in Lubbock and tell y'all what they are doing wrong
- 29:35Speaker 8: out there.
- 29:35Speaker 2: We'll be back in.

- 32:12Speaker 8: A Hot Thursday Afternoon, Chip Howard Sports Talk, Jason and
- 32:17Speaker 8: Jared Sports Radio eleven fifty am The Zone FM.
- 32:21Speaker 6: I was waiting for the slap. I purposely picked that
- 32:27Speaker 6: song for this segment because if you are familiar with
- 32:30Speaker 6: the video for Street Dreams and Nas, it is a
- 32:33Speaker 6: homage to the movie Casino. So obviously we're going to
- 32:38Speaker 6: talk about gambling and.
- 32:39Speaker 8: The overall and and and how things are right now,
- 32:44Speaker 8: and for me relating it back to what you and
- 32:47Speaker 8: I have been talking about, and you said it right
- 32:49Speaker 8: going out of the first break of how feckless and
- 32:52Speaker 8: teeth toothless the n c double A is right now
- 32:56Speaker 8: and how yes, right now based on what is happening
- 33:01Speaker 8: with with Soresby at Texas Tech and getting the injunction
- 33:06Speaker 8: to be allowed to play this season after and I
- 33:08Speaker 8: forget what was this two game suspension for?
- 33:10Speaker 2: Was it for this?
- 33:11Speaker 8: So he got a two a two game suspension that
- 33:15Speaker 8: he's going to serve and then he'll be able to play.
- 33:17Speaker 8: But the college sports right now, based on this injunction
- 33:22Speaker 8: by the judge, is the only sports league where you
- 33:28Speaker 8: can if you bet on the if you if you
- 33:32Speaker 8: were caught gambling, especially if you were caught gambling on
- 33:36Speaker 8: your own games. Yes, that that league has zero control
- 33:44Speaker 8: or retribution that they can do. And so that's where
- 33:49Speaker 8: we are starting, and that's where we are at.
- 33:50Speaker 6: That's where we are right now, and let's set let's
- 33:53Speaker 6: set this out from the get go. The NCAA head
- 33:58Speaker 6: decades and we're not being facetious when we say this
- 34:01Speaker 6: decades to do something to get ahead of this, and
- 34:05Speaker 6: they did nothing, So we're not We don't feel sorry
- 34:09Speaker 6: for the NCAAA. They had every opportunity to do something
- 34:13Speaker 6: about this, and they chose not to. They chose in action.
- 34:16Speaker 6: Which it's amazing how governing bodies, or at least certain
- 34:21Speaker 6: governing bodies, just tend to love kicking the can down
- 34:24Speaker 6: the road thinking someone else will solve it until the
- 34:26Speaker 6: problem comes and bite you in the rear end. Yeah,
- 34:30Speaker 6: I'm talking about other other things, and we'll get into
- 34:34Speaker 6: those other things because they play a part in this
- 34:36Speaker 6: as well.
- 34:37Speaker 2: But what is just.
- 34:40Speaker 6: Truly abhorrent about this is that I, like I said
- 34:46Speaker 6: in the opening segment, this is the cardinal sin it
- 34:52Speaker 6: because at the heart of it, when you start talking
- 34:55Speaker 6: about the competition of sport and is there are the
- 35:01Speaker 6: players on the field. Do they have a financial incentive
- 35:05Speaker 6: to affect the outcome of the.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Game than just going out there and competing?
- 35:12Speaker 6: Yet just competing that completely undermines the sport itself. And
- 35:20Speaker 6: so you have a situation where a guy, i mean
- 35:26Speaker 6: we can say kid if you want, but placed over
- 35:30Speaker 6: nine thousand bets at three different or at two different schools.
- 35:36Speaker 6: I mean probably you know, once he got to the Lubbick,
- 35:38Speaker 6: which he just got there, he's probably still play some
- 35:40Speaker 6: bets for all we know. Knew what he was doing
- 35:44Speaker 6: because he didn't do it under his own name. No,
- 35:48Speaker 6: he did it through friends accounts. He would give people money.
- 35:52Speaker 6: In fact, I believe there's another and I'm meant to
- 35:56Speaker 6: pull up his name, there was another player from Indiana.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Believe that he.
- 36:02Speaker 6: Plays bets with. That guy's career is over. He's not
- 36:06Speaker 6: getting an injunction to play again, but Soorsby is, and
- 36:10Speaker 6: Soorsby is largely getting this opportunity to play again because
- 36:14Speaker 6: he is at a certain school that has a certain
- 36:16Speaker 6: donor who's also the chairman of the board of regents,
- 36:19Speaker 6: who's been pumping in millions upon millions, if not billions
- 36:23Speaker 6: of dollars. And oh, by the way, is also lobbying
- 36:26Speaker 6: with the help of another feckless creature in one of
- 36:31Speaker 6: our Texas Senators, to get pushed through legislation to quote
- 36:36Speaker 6: unquote return college sports to what they used to be,
- 36:41Speaker 6: which I find funny because if he's successful in doing that,
- 36:45Speaker 6: that legislation would actually go against what this judge has
- 36:50Speaker 6: ruled because it would actually give governing It would actually
- 36:53Speaker 6: give governing a governing body actual power, whereas right now
- 36:59Speaker 6: a random judge somewhere in the country can overrule both
- 37:06Speaker 6: the NCUBLEA bylaws and oh, by the way, the Big
- 37:09Speaker 6: twelve bylaws which all fifteen other schools want to invoke
- 37:14Speaker 6: Bylaw three point six, which would allow them to punish
- 37:20Speaker 6: Texas Tech for if they allow source Bee to play.
- 37:22Speaker 8: Do you and here on so many levels on this
- 37:25Speaker 8: and so many things that we've kind of talked about
- 37:27Speaker 8: when it comes to the NC double A when it
- 37:29Speaker 8: comes at but what you just talked about specifically is
- 37:32Speaker 8: one of the reasons why you have to have a
- 37:36Speaker 8: governing body is because these schools.
- 37:40Speaker 2: And we know this and we would do it. We
- 37:43Speaker 2: can't govern ourselves.
- 37:45Speaker 12: No.
- 37:46Speaker 8: And the reason why Texas is standing up ten toe
- 37:48Speaker 8: strong and wanting to do this Texas, excuse me, and
- 37:52Speaker 8: it is because they know that they have a team
- 37:54Speaker 8: that can compete this year. And that's why I think
- 37:57Speaker 8: it is funny that the other fifteen schools are like.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Oh, we can't have them doing this unless it was there.
- 38:03Speaker 8: I can almost guarantee you if he had transferred to
- 38:08Speaker 8: any other Big twelve school, they would be doing like
- 38:10Speaker 8: they would be fighting for him to get on that
- 38:12Speaker 8: field the exact same way that Tech is.
- 38:15Speaker 2: And the reason for that is because it's in their
- 38:17Speaker 2: own best interest.
- 38:20Speaker 6: I'm going I'm gonna I'm gonna partially agree, but I'm
- 38:22Speaker 6: also gonna partially gonna disagree because I think so much
- 38:25Speaker 6: of this comes down to the money back behind it.
- 38:28Speaker 6: And and I think when you talk about some of
- 38:30Speaker 6: these other schools, if they're if you don't have, if
- 38:34Speaker 6: you don't have the donor base that has billions of
- 38:37Speaker 6: dollars at their disposal, yep, and also have I'm gonna
- 38:40Speaker 6: we're gonna go ahead and say it. You've got friendly
- 38:43Speaker 6: courts because not only this, this injunction comes from a
- 38:46Speaker 6: Lubbott County retired judge. Guess it has been. The NCAA
- 38:51Speaker 6: has already filed an appeal. Well, that appeal goes to Amarillo.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Guess guess you know where they filed it.
- 38:56Speaker 6: Well, hold on the four appellate judges on that appellate
- 39:02Speaker 6: court in Amarillo, all four of them Texas Tech Law
- 39:06Speaker 6: School graduates.
- 39:08Speaker 8: You have, I mean this and this is that is why.
- 39:12Speaker 8: But that's why you file it in a That's why.
- 39:14Speaker 6: These they're not smart, you're not stupid.
- 39:17Speaker 8: They file it where it is for that reason, Like
- 39:22Speaker 8: that's this specific reason. And I understand what you're saying,
- 39:24Speaker 8: where maybe not every school, but like whether it is
- 39:28Speaker 8: again where you're talking about Chambliss at ole Miss and
- 39:31Speaker 8: making sure that he gets or anybody that's suing to
- 39:33Speaker 8: get extra eligibility.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Like there, every.
- 39:36Speaker 8: School is doing what is on what is in their
- 39:39Speaker 8: own best interest. And at one point, maybe sometime in
- 39:43Speaker 8: the nineteen sixties, the NC double A was strong enough
- 39:48Speaker 8: to scare everybody. But you know, and I heard this
- 39:51Speaker 8: on one of the shows the other day. It might
- 39:53Speaker 8: have been something that I saw online that in actuality,
- 39:57Speaker 8: and you and I have said this in different version
- 40:00Speaker 8: of it.
- 40:00Speaker 2: The NC double A has never had any strength.
- 40:02Speaker 8: No, there was the there was the the whisper of strings,
- 40:06Speaker 8: there was the illusion of strings, there was the bark
- 40:09Speaker 8: that they had, but the NC double A has actually
- 40:12Speaker 8: never had any bite. All of the schools just kind
- 40:14Speaker 8: of stayed in line. And now they're like, why do
- 40:18Speaker 8: we even listen to them? And now it's getting to
- 40:21Speaker 8: the point, sorry, real quick, it's getting the point to
- 40:23Speaker 8: we're in school, Like the schools aren't going to start
- 40:26Speaker 8: They're not going to listen to their conferences anymore.
- 40:28Speaker 6: No, so I know, we got to we gotta take
- 40:30Speaker 6: a commercial break when we come back. I want to
- 40:31Speaker 6: hit on this point because this, to me, this is
- 40:34Speaker 6: where the critical inflection point has hit its most important area.
- 40:40Speaker 6: So we'll talk about that after.
- 40:41Speaker 2: The take a quick break, come back in just a second.

- 42:00Speaker 19: The Houston Astros took a tough loss last night, falling
- 42:03Speaker 19: to the Angels three to two. LA struck in the

- 42:10Speaker 19: o'happy added another run with the homer to make it
- 42:12Speaker 19: two to nothing. Houston would respond with solo homers by
- 42:15Speaker 19: Shay Whitcombe and Cam Smith to tie the game at
- 42:18Speaker 19: two and force extra innings. In the tenth, Houston couldn't
- 42:21Speaker 19: score a run as they struck out twice and grounded out,
- 42:24Speaker 19: and at the bottom half of the inning, the Angels
- 42:26Speaker 19: would walk it off on a single by Jose sirie Oh.

- 44:42Speaker 8: side did you park on the back?
- 44:44Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 44:44Speaker 8: And I was like, and turn fair. I was like,
- 44:46Speaker 8: I actually found a spot under a tree, which I
- 44:50Speaker 8: have to have on an afternoon like this. But yeah,
- 44:53Speaker 8: just it's it's here. It is absolutely here.
- 44:57Speaker 6: I will say this. It's Brakler system has remained off.
- 45:02Speaker 6: May have to turn it on this weekend. Although you
- 45:05Speaker 6: know Max and Cayley's forecast is showing potential for rain
- 45:09Speaker 6: next week. I mean we're in the mid June and
- 45:11Speaker 6: I've only had water I think twice.
- 45:15Speaker 2: The May rain was I mean, yes, especially May we've
- 45:18Speaker 2: been doing good with it.
- 45:19Speaker 8: Jason Cornas and Chip Jared Hickson for Chip Today Sports
- 45:23Speaker 8: A right eleven fifty AM to Zone nine through seven FM.
- 45:25Speaker 8: We are diving deep into just the mess that is
- 45:30Speaker 8: coming out of Lubbock and what it's doing.
- 45:32Speaker 2: What's going to do and continue to do college sports in.
- 45:35Speaker 6: College sports in general. And so this is where I
- 45:36Speaker 6: wanted to go with this because you brought this point
- 45:39Speaker 6: up where the NCAA used to have perceived power, yes,
- 45:46Speaker 6: and over the years that power has been whittled down
- 45:49Speaker 6: to effectively nothing, to the point where you had all
- 45:52Speaker 6: nine Supreme Court justices saying, how on God's green earth
- 45:56Speaker 6: were you allowed to do this for decades? Because y'all
- 46:00Speaker 6: are a joke in how you've treated your players and
- 46:04Speaker 6: what you've considered. But this is to me, this is where,
- 46:09Speaker 6: specifically this case and kind of how the NCUBA lost
- 46:13Speaker 6: their grip on college sports really began. And it's it's
- 46:17Speaker 6: due to the fact the nc double A has never
- 46:20Speaker 6: been consistent in their punishment because you look at certain
- 46:26Speaker 6: schools who violated had violations that basically got off with
- 46:31Speaker 6: slaps on the wrist or in some cases nothing at all,
- 46:34Speaker 6: and typically those universities tended to be your blue bloods
- 46:37Speaker 6: who also had major law schools that typically also were
- 46:41Speaker 6: able to fight the NC DOUBLEA. So we're talking about
- 46:44Speaker 6: your Ohio States and your Michigan's and your Texas is TECHSI,
- 46:50Speaker 6: and it's other schools that came under the wrath of
- 46:53Speaker 6: the NC DOUBLEA basically to reinforce what perceived power they had.
- 46:58Speaker 6: And of course SMU is.
- 46:59Speaker 2: The one road. It is no coincidence.
- 47:04Speaker 6: And so what is interesting specific to this case is
- 47:08Speaker 6: they've interviewed the attorneys who have been successful at fighting
- 47:12Speaker 6: the NCAA for years, and even they are taken aback
- 47:17Speaker 6: by the fact that this judge ruled this way. Because again,
- 47:21Speaker 6: when you talk about the cardinal sin in all of sport,
- 47:26Speaker 6: it is gambling on your own sport, and it's nothing else,
- 47:32Speaker 6: even worse gambling on your own team. Because again, Pete
- 47:35Speaker 6: Rose never gambled on the reds. He gambled on baseball.
- 47:39Speaker 6: He did not argue that fact. But for that he
- 47:43Speaker 6: was ex communicado. He could not even show up, He.
- 47:46Speaker 8: Couldn't be inside a baseball stadium anytime that he was there.
- 47:50Speaker 8: He had to be across the street.
- 47:53Speaker 6: And so now let's fast forward to this fall because
- 47:57Speaker 6: at this point in time now, granted things can get
- 47:59Speaker 6: fast tracked, but right as it stands, right now, the
- 48:01Speaker 6: appeal for this case is going to be held in
- 48:04Speaker 6: February of twenty twenty seven, almost immediately after.
- 48:09Speaker 2: The week after the National after the National championship.
- 48:13Speaker 6: So once Swordsby, so once Swordsby serves his two game suspension,
- 48:17Speaker 6: and even when he's on the sideline during those two
- 48:20Speaker 6: game suspensions, every televised Texas Tech game that broadcast booth,
- 48:26Speaker 6: they're gonna be talking about h They're gonna be talking
- 48:29Speaker 6: about the fact they're they're going to be talking about
- 48:32Speaker 6: texts text opponents, which, by the way, you've had schools
- 48:34Speaker 6: from around the country who are claiming they're going to
- 48:38Speaker 6: boycott playing Texas Tech stop. I mean, most of the time,
- 48:42Speaker 6: most of them don't even have Tech on their schedule.
- 48:44Speaker 6: But they wouldn't, but they wontn't. And what's funny is
- 48:48Speaker 6: some of these same schools, looking at you Athens, Georgia,
- 48:52Speaker 6: are the schools who've been talking about, you know, the
- 48:54Speaker 6: SEC breakaway and doing that kind of stuff.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Stop. But because that's not gonna happen.
- 48:59Speaker 6: This is what I find mind just truly I'm gonna
- 49:03Speaker 6: say ironic and hypocritical. At the same time, these announced
- 49:07Speaker 6: teams are gonna be calling a game. They're gonna some
- 49:09Speaker 6: might be in support of Soresby, some of them are
- 49:11Speaker 6: probably gonna be highly critical sores Be or Texattack in general.
- 49:14Speaker 6: And then when they go to commercial or when they
- 49:16Speaker 6: go to to a sideline, it's gonna be sponsored by
- 49:20Speaker 6: Draft Kings or by fan duel because again, gamble sports
- 49:25Speaker 6: betting has fully infiltrated the United States, and it's not
- 49:31Speaker 6: to the detriment, but the problem is you have not
- 49:34Speaker 6: put you obviously not put in the governance specific to
- 49:38Speaker 6: this sport or let me say this level, because this
- 49:41Speaker 6: isn't just gonna be college football. You're gonna you will
- 49:44Speaker 6: see this across I mean across I would. I'm I
- 49:50Speaker 6: promise you college basketball is probably gonna be even uglier
- 49:53Speaker 6: if you really pull peel away the layers. I mean,
- 49:55Speaker 6: we talked about that the last time we were here
- 49:57Speaker 6: with Ford, with the fordum case. Uh and uh was
- 50:03Speaker 6: the other one forget what the other one want?
- 50:05Speaker 2: Uh?
- 50:06Speaker 6: Again, the lower the lower levels of College of oh
- 50:09Speaker 6: Atlin Christian That was the other one. But until the
- 50:13Speaker 6: fact that you we said it, he who should shall
- 50:20Speaker 6: remain the n cua A could have done one thing
- 50:24Speaker 6: in the in the post nil era, and that is
- 50:27Speaker 6: we will be we will be the safeguard against sports
- 50:32Speaker 6: betting in this in this UH level of play college athletics.
- 50:39Speaker 6: That will be our job. We can we can have
- 50:42Speaker 6: relevance by doing that.
- 50:45Speaker 2: And they punted well, and they and you went and
- 50:47Speaker 2: you said it perfectly.
- 50:48Speaker 8: And this is where I think it will all continue
- 50:51Speaker 8: to go back to, is Yes, they've been punting on
- 50:55Speaker 8: this for basically since the beginning of their exist but
- 51:00Speaker 8: especially more as the television dollars kept coming in and
- 51:03Speaker 8: what they were able to do off of the television
- 51:06Speaker 8: dollars because what the what all of the other at
- 51:09Speaker 8: least in the United States, I don't know how it
- 51:11Speaker 8: works globally, but what all of the other leagues have
- 51:15Speaker 8: that allows them to have that that antitrust documentation and
- 51:20Speaker 8: exemptions from the They have collective bargaining agreements and every
- 51:25Speaker 8: and that's what makes that that's what makes them have
- 51:27Speaker 8: the teeth because the the players have agreed that they're
- 51:32Speaker 8: going to give these leagues the authority to do the
- 51:35Speaker 8: things that they're going to do, and so.
- 51:37Speaker 2: That's why you can't.
- 51:38Speaker 8: That's why you don't see anybody from that that that
- 51:41Speaker 8: you can't sue the NFL if they suspend you.
- 51:44Speaker 2: You get that you can go to obertration, which they've
- 51:46Speaker 2: agreed in the collective bargain.
- 51:47Speaker 8: Agreement, but you yeah, you can't go and sue in
- 51:50Speaker 8: federal court the NFL if they suspend you for whatever
- 51:54Speaker 8: the case may be, because.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Sorry, y'all, y'all, y'all agreed to this, and so that's
- 51:58Speaker 2: what you get to do.
- 51:59Speaker 8: And the reason why none of this is at least
- 52:04Speaker 8: right now, I won't say ever, because ever is a
- 52:05Speaker 8: long time. But the reason why this is probably never
- 52:08Speaker 8: going to come into into place with the NT double
- 52:11Speaker 8: as because they don't want to collectively bargain with their Well,
- 52:14Speaker 8: they've had a hard again talk about kicking the can.
- 52:17Speaker 8: They've had a hard enough time getting to the point
- 52:19Speaker 8: and being forced to share some of.
- 52:22Speaker 6: The billions two.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Person cool, but they've been forced to even do that
- 52:28Speaker 2: and they still don't want to. They will, they will
- 52:32Speaker 2: say they do, but they still don't want to.
- 52:34Speaker 8: And until there is a collective bargained agreement between NC
- 52:40Speaker 8: Double A athletes and the NC Double A. There is
- 52:43Speaker 8: nothing that is going to happen because again, as I
- 52:46Speaker 8: was talking about earlier, the other side of that is you.
- 52:49Speaker 8: But it needs to happen because these schools don't. They
- 52:52Speaker 8: only care about themselves and until there is a governing
- 52:56Speaker 8: body with some kind of teeth that will keep everybody
- 52:59Speaker 8: in line. And these are the things that are gonna
- 53:01Speaker 8: continue to happen because you'll find a judge that'll say, hey, oh, absolutely, yeah,
- 53:06Speaker 8: I know he better, but like you just said, for
- 53:08Speaker 8: his well being, and that for his you can't take
- 53:12Speaker 8: away from his well being to be a student athlete.
- 53:15Speaker 8: That's what You'll find a judge that'll tell you that,
- 53:17Speaker 8: or that he does need a fifteenth year of eligibility
- 53:20Speaker 8: or and I know because we've taken advantage of it too,
- 53:24Speaker 8: I understand, but I cannot. I cannot believe that you
- 53:28Speaker 8: can be an you can go to the NBA and
- 53:31Speaker 8: then come back and play in college basketball. You can
- 53:34Speaker 8: you can play professional sports and then but they found
- 53:37Speaker 8: judges that said sure.
- 53:38Speaker 6: So two things. I love the fact that the judge
- 53:42Speaker 6: effectively said for his well being, he has to play.
- 53:44Speaker 6: You're basically saying he's not good enough to play in
- 53:47Speaker 6: the NFL, so this is probably gonna be the most
- 53:48Speaker 6: money he's gonna make in his career. So there's one. Two.
- 53:52Speaker 6: Oh man, I'm blinking on one at the point I
- 53:54Speaker 6: was gonna make out of that, But oh, the NFL.
- 53:58Speaker 6: You brought up the NFL. This is why the NFL
- 54:01Speaker 6: is not gonna create a minor league. They don't need
- 54:03Speaker 6: it because if they create a minor league, they have
- 54:06Speaker 6: to pay for it. Here, you have an entire apparatus

- 54:14Speaker 6: collectively bargained, so you are not on the hook for
- 54:17Speaker 6: any of it.
- 54:18Speaker 8: Why did the G league not step up, like pick
- 54:20Speaker 8: up the pace? NBA try to start they still it's
- 54:22Speaker 8: still there, But why is it not picked up the pace?
- 54:24Speaker 2: Why do they need it? Exactly? Especially now, why do
- 54:27Speaker 2: they need.
- 54:27Speaker 6: Why did Why did Major League Baseball contract its minor
- 54:30Speaker 6: league because college baseball is uniform and now now those
- 54:33Speaker 6: within IL, those players are making more money in college
- 54:35Speaker 6: than they can in the minors.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Why would you go to be a minor league player?
- 54:39Speaker 6: Now, I mean, you're only doing it with that You're
- 54:43Speaker 6: gonna get pull here, You're you're being called up to
