- 0:17SPEAKER_00: In the world of writers, there are two kinds of people: the mere mortals and the towering giants.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: We stand in awe of the creative output and the success of the towering giants, and we wonder, how do they get it done?
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: How do they write so many books and stay consistent for years or even decades on end?
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: One of these giants, Stephen King, gave us a little peek behind the curtain when he shared his writing routine.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Here's what he said.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: There are certain things I do if I sit down to write.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: I have a glass of water or a cup of tea.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: There's a certain time I sit down from 8 to 8:30, somewhere within that half hour every morning.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I have my vitamin pill and my music sit in the same seat, and the papers are all arranged in the same places.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: The cumulative purpose of doing these things the same way every day seems to be a way of saying to the mind, you're going to be dreaming soon.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: It all sounds very ordinary, doesn't it?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: It's not at all what you would expect from one of the greatest writers of all time.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: So, what's the takeaway for us?
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: What can we learn from Stephen King's surprisingly mundane writing routine?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Well, I think the answer is pretty simple.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And it's this establish whatever routine works for you and then stick with it.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's making your favorite cup of tea.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's playing certain music or arranging your desk in a certain way.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's lighting a candle or pouring yourself a certain drink or having a snack that you love.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Every writer's different.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Do what works for you.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: But these seemingly boring routines are huge secrets to our success.
