- 0:08tonight. Think I got everything right
- 0:14here? Yeah.
- 0:14So welcome to our weekly Bible study, some of you already on

- 0:23We're going to talk about what God wrote to us in Hebrews
- 0:28tonight. And of course, we welcome any
- 0:31kind of chat or questions or comments for the duration too.
- 0:36So you can always hop on the chat wherever you're watching

- 0:44can find links to our podcast and past recordings at our
- 0:49website, which is simply christministries.com and check
- 0:53everything out there. We are starting tonight in
- 0:57Hebrews chapter 13 and we'll start in verse 9 and to kick it
- 1:03off and looks like we lost some of our guys here.
- 1:11They'll be back. Anyway, we'll get we'll get
- 1:13started. In the meantime, if I could ask
- 1:15Aaron to open us up with a word of prayer, that'd be great.
- 1:21Our most totally and righteous Father.
- 1:22We are so thankful to be able to have the technology to together
- 1:29like this and study your word and at all these distances from
- 1:33each other that we are. And we're just thankful most of
- 1:35all that you've preserved your word for us, that we have it and
- 1:39that we are able to know that you had a hand in keeping it
- 1:44pure and keeping it true for us. We pray that we'd be LED by your
- 1:49Spirit to see the truth that's in it, that you'd bring out
- 1:52those things that are true, those things that are right, and
- 1:56those things that are profitable to us.
- 1:58Help us to say things that encourage each other, that might
- 2:03help someone that's listening and help us to grow in our faith
- 2:07and our confidence that we have in you and your word.
- 2:11Just ask you bless us tonight as we go through all these things
- 2:14we ask in Christ precious name, Amen.
- 2:18Thank you. Appreciate that.
- 2:20OK, so get a running start here really quick.
- 2:23Of course, we're in chapter 13. I'll read verse 9 says be not
- 2:29carried about with divers and strange doctrines for it is a
- 2:33good thing that the heart be established with grace, not with
- 2:37meats which have not profited them that have been occupied
- 2:40therein. And so last week or the last
- 2:45couple of weeks, we talked about this being kind of a recap of
- 2:50what the book of Hebrews kind of talked about in great, great
- 2:55detail from the first chapter until the 12th.
- 2:58And now he's looks to me like he's kind of recapping almost or
- 3:02giving some of the high points going into this.
- 3:05Like for us to remember as this is the last book, it's the last
- 3:08page of his letter, kind of reiterating some of the
- 3:11important things maybe. So that's that's kind of what
- 3:14we're looking last last couple weeks we talked about having
- 3:18brotherly love, you know, watching out for our brothers,
- 3:21being conscious of them and doing stuff for their good,
- 3:27remembering those that are in bonds, of course.
- 3:30And we talked about those brothers that would have rule
- 3:34over us. Really good stuff.
- 3:35You'd go back and like I said, find those links to those
- 3:38episodes. I think I think that's some
- 3:41pretty good study stuff there. But tonight be not carried away,
- 3:46carried about with divers and strange doctrines and you know,
- 3:50just a warning. I think that is something that
- 3:53is important for us to remember, that Satan would have us to be
- 4:00like a man tossed to and fro, you know, being double minded or
- 4:05being unsure or having our our confidence maybe undermined by
- 4:14something second best or have something else compete with the
- 4:19purity of the gospel. I think we see that a lot too.
- 4:24So yeah, good words. I'll toss it over to you for
- 4:27your thoughts there. Yeah, I I was reminded of the
- 4:31passage that you just kind of quoted somewhat in your little
- 4:36opening there, but it's in Ephesians chapter 414.
- 4:38It says that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and
- 4:42fro, carried about with every wind of doctrine by the sleight
- 4:45of men and cutting craftiness whereby they lie and wait to
- 4:49deceive, but speaking the truth. And love may grow up into Him in
- 4:53all things, which is the head, even Christ.
- 4:56And so the book of Ephesians is really emphasizing the oneness
- 5:00that we should be believing in one God, one Father, 1 Lord, 1
- 5:04faith, 1 baptism, and that we should be established in that
- 5:07truth. And the book of Hebrews has
- 5:08really, as you already mentioned, has hammered that
- 5:11same truth over and over and over again.
- 5:13And the previous verse, verse eight, kind of sums it all up.
- 5:17Jesus Christ, he's the same yesterday, today, forever.
- 5:21This is where we build our lives and our doctrine and our
- 5:24theology and our, our understanding of our who God is,
- 5:29because that's where grace comes from.
- 5:31And we ought not to establish our lives with diverse and
- 5:36strange doctrines. And I, I always think when I
- 5:38hear those terms diverse and strange, I think of really
- 5:42random weird doctrines, but he actually narrows it down.
- 5:45He's not talking about just out of the ordinary weird stuff that
- 5:48some, you know, conspiracy theorist thought up online.
- 5:51He's talking about somebody who's teaching like he's going
- 5:54to talk about an altar and a sacrifice and beasts and blood
- 5:59offerings and doctrines that are contrary to and diverse from the
- 6:05one true doctrine, which is Christ.
- 6:07So he says don't be carried about with all these doctrines.
- 6:10And I, I kind of understand it because probably all of us, when
- 6:14we first got saved and understood the gospel, there was
- 6:17a newness and a, a preciousness about the gospel that came over
- 6:21us where nothing could distract us.
- 6:23We were just sold out, hungry for this truth and digging in
- 6:27and going after it constantly. And there's a really an
- 6:30excitement about that. And sometimes people chase that
- 6:34feeling they'll they'll latch on to Christ and be really excited
- 6:37about the simplicity of what God has done for them in Christ.
- 6:40But then they're like, yeah, but have you heard this other new
- 6:43thing? Now I'm really excited about
- 6:44this or now I'm excited about feast days, all those things.
- 6:48They really excite me because they talk about all these
- 6:50things. And maybe at first it begins
- 6:51with they talk about Christ and they talk about this, that the
- 6:54other thing. But he says, don't be carried
- 6:57about with them. Don't be moved away from the
- 7:00simplicity of the gospel through these diverse and strange
- 7:03doctrines. It's a good thing to establish
- 7:07your heart with grace. So the doctrines of outward
- 7:10appearance won't establish you and grace.
- 7:13The doctrines of what type of clothes you should wear or not
- 7:16wear will not establish your heart with grace.
- 7:19What kind of vehicle you should drive, where you can go, where
- 7:21you can't go, what kind of songs you have to sing or Can't Sing,
- 7:25what kind of music is allowed or isn't allowed, what kind of you
- 7:28know, all on and on and on it goes outward things.
- 7:31Those are like meat. Don't establish your heart with
- 7:34meat, with outward things, with physical things.
- 7:37Rather establish your heart on this present truth that Jesus
- 7:40Christ is the same yesterday, today, forever, and he has
- 7:43purchased our freedom. And we should, as the apostle
- 7:46Paul says near the end of his life, he said, I glory and
- 7:49nothing save the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the
- 7:52world was crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
- 7:55And so throughout his Christian life, he focused more and more
- 7:58and more on the cross of Christ because that's where grace is
- 8:02found. And so don't be LED astray into
- 8:04these things that do not profit. So there's lots of interesting
- 8:08doctrines that might help build your understanding of who God
- 8:11is, but some of them you can argue and debate over until
- 8:15Kingdom come and not really profit anyone.
- 8:18And I think he's just basically saying be really careful not to
- 8:21be carried away by those diverse doctrines.
- 8:25That's good. Air.
- 8:30I hate to mess that up and add to it.
- 8:32Really. No, no, I really I totally
- 8:37agree. I think it's, I think it is so
- 8:41true because what rung the truest to me is what Dan said
- 8:45about people have a tendency, they have a tendency to want to
- 8:49be excited about something new. And I think that this is just a
- 8:53warning to be, you know, he says it is a good thing that the
- 8:57heart be established with grace. So it's a good thing to have a
- 9:01firm foundation in the gospel to be anchored there and not run
- 9:06off after, as he said, all these other little things that would
- 9:10pop up. And and I think they had already
- 9:13said this, but I would also distinguish that between healing
- 9:19back the layers of truth right there.
- 9:21There's obviously a great benefit to to getting, he
- 9:26already told us that earlier in the book.
- 9:28Get off me and get off the milk and go on to meet right.
- 9:32So there is a benefit to moving on in your understanding and
- 9:36moving on to how it affects your life.
- 9:38Personally, I would have said this about chapter 13.
- 9:42Is that up to chapter 13? A lot of it has been the truth
- 9:49of what Christ has done for us. And it's almost like 13.
- 9:53He throws in several things here that are just, they're just good
- 9:56advice, right? I mean, it's good advice to
- 9:59apply to your life. And so, you know, that's not
- 10:03what he's warned about. He's not warned about learning
- 10:06more or, or getting more understanding of, of God and who
- 10:11he is or you know, of, of these other things that are written in
- 10:15other places. But he is saying, well, let me
- 10:19say it a different way. I know a few people, not just
- 10:22one, but a few people that every gimmick that comes along that I
- 10:30don't even like that that has no appeal to me because I know it's
- 10:34a gimmick. They grab on to every one of
- 10:36them, right? I mean, this new thing comes
- 10:38along. It's like, oh, this is the way
- 10:39I'm going to get rich or oh, this is the way you do this
- 10:42thing or oh, this is the way to eat.
- 10:45And I think he's warning, you know, about like Dan said, it's
- 10:48very specific. It is going back to meats or
- 10:53feast days or whatever, which is in context with the chapter.
- 10:58And it's it's a very specific thing.
- 11:00Don't try to grab on to what this to every little whim that
- 11:04comes along that people are trying to press on you and.
- 11:09That's that's good stuff, Velvet.
- 11:13Yeah, I think that's so good what you guys are saying,
- 11:16because it's so easy for us to, you know, get focused away from
- 11:23just the gospel of Christ because obviously that's what
- 11:28was happening here. You know, here they were going
- 11:30back wanting to go back to the law, which included meats.
- 11:34And he's going to go on and talk in the next couple verses about
- 11:37the altar and all that. And so the the believers here
- 11:42that he is written writing two were Jews.
- 11:45And so he's telling them to not be tired away with those other
- 11:50diverse and strange doctrines that might include Christ, but
- 11:56call you away from the grace of Christ.
- 12:00I think the keyword there is the word that he says it is good
- 12:04thing that the heart be established with grace.
- 12:06So I think grace is the keyword there because anything outside
- 12:11of Christ and in Christ alone is not grace anymore.
- 12:16It's works involved in some some sort right And I like what it
- 12:22says in Galatians 1/6. It says Paul says, I marvel that
- 12:28ye are so soon removed from him that called you into unto the
- 12:34grace of Christ unto another gospel which is not an other,
- 12:38but there be some that trouble you and would pervert the gospel
- 12:42of Christ. And so I think that's what he's
- 12:45saying here. He's just warning them or
- 12:48encouraging them to not be carried away with different
- 12:52strange doctrines and just simply be grounded in the grace
- 12:58and of Christ and in Christ alone.
- 13:02Amen. Andrew.
- 13:05Yeah, I I would say the same thing.
- 13:09It's he's emphasizing the importance of being consistent
- 13:16with the finished work of Christ.
- 13:18And he just got done saying it the same yesterday, today and
- 13:22forever. And it's like since the
- 13:26sacrifice, the cross and the work of the cross has never
- 13:30changes, that grace will always be there, it always will be the
- 13:34same and it's always sufficient. And it's something that came in
- 13:42after the old was left. I I think he's talking about, he
- 13:48talked about it before in Hebrews 9 when he said in verse
- 13:55Chapter 9, verse 9, it says which was a figure for the time
- 13:58then pressing in which were offered both gifts and
- 14:01sacrifices that could not make him that did the service perfect
- 14:05as pertaining to the conscience which stood only in meats and
- 14:09drinks and divers washings and carnal ordinance imposed on them
- 14:14until the time of reformation. So it's not a good doctrine to
- 14:22be caught up with something that was for until the time of before
- 14:29the grace came. The heart now is supposed to be
- 14:33established with grace, not with meats.
- 14:39Abstaining from meats and having these divers divers means just a
- 14:43bunch of different ones, more than one doctrine.
- 14:46It's like Dan was saying you all.
- 14:49I think we're saying like there's many different doctrines
- 14:50we can get carried away with. And he mentioned meats here.
- 14:56If you notice, like the vegetarians and the people that
- 15:03really watch the meat and clean and unclean meat.
- 15:07When he says not to have a heart established with that, I very
- 15:12much know what it means. These people, they would feel
- 15:16like they're caught in public with in their underwear if they
- 15:20couldn't do their meat thing. Like their heart is very much
- 15:26involved. I mean, it's very personal to
- 15:30them. They get upset.
- 15:35It's like it is like a religion. Even the unbelievers that are
- 15:38vegetarians, it's like a religion that they practice very
- 15:42much. The heart is established on that
- 15:44thing. They'll they'll look away at
- 15:47fornication. They'll look away at all kinds
- 15:51of sins of the heart to establish meats and these
- 15:57diverse doctrines. They will do that.
- 16:00And I think that's what he's telling us, that it's not worth
- 16:03it. And one thing that I noticed
- 16:06that surprises me is how in first Timothy Ford almost he
- 16:12used a lot of the same words, talks about doctrines, good
- 16:15doctrines, bad doctrines, faith, grace, and not being able to
- 16:23live in the reproach that Christ endured.
- 16:28It says the Spirit expressly reads in the latter times, that
- 16:35some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing
- 16:38spirits and doctrines of devils. Spending lies in the property of
- 16:41having their conscience with a hot iron.
- 16:46The doctrines of devils, which is one of those diverse
- 16:49doctrines forbidding to marry, abstaining from meats which
- 16:52cannot, which God hath created to be received with
- 16:55Thanksgiving. Of them which believe and know
- 16:58the truth. For every creature is good, and
- 17:00nothing is to be refused if it is to be received with
- 17:02Thanksgiving. The transition that God is
- 17:06looking for us to make is that now we worship God in spirit and
- 17:11in truth and and our lips sacrifice, our lips praise his
- 17:17name, our lit our mouth thanks God for the food and it's
- 17:22sanctified. It set apart, our mouth opens up
- 17:27and we praise God for all that he has done and we worship his
- 17:31complete work. And that is the sacrifice that
- 17:34God is well pleased with, not these other sacrifice like these
- 17:39diverse doctrine. I think I'm just going to leave
- 17:42it at that. Like it, it changed from faith
- 17:47and the work that God has done that we speak, that we say with
- 17:51our mouth, we confess with our mouth, we we glorify him with
- 17:56our mouth now. And things happen based on what
- 17:58we say and what we believe, not the physical act of doing some
- 18:05of the old stuff and these old doctrines.
- 18:07So that really wipes out all those people that have these pet
- 18:12doctrines that man, you don't better not touch it because
- 18:16their hearts very much established on it.
- 18:18That's that's the main point I want to make is how you can tell
- 18:21that their heart is extremely attached and established on
- 18:24those doctors. Yeah, I know.
- 18:28That's that's good stuff. One thing I thought.
- 18:32I I thought I'll go ahead and then go ahead Dad.
- 18:34We'll, we'll spend 1/2 hour on this verse.
- 18:36I'll bet. But now what, what stood out to
- 18:38me about this verse 2 is have you noticed that he is saying
- 18:42that those beats have not profited them?
- 18:45There you go as if as if he's saying that the the gospel of
- 18:51grace does is profitable to you. I just, you know, and I don't
- 18:55think that he's talking money here, but but the word profit is
- 19:00like value added enhanced value, right?
- 19:05Like it, it, it like if if you have a profit, it's more and
- 19:09above the seed, you know, it's it's the extra, it's the more
- 19:13and I just I just find it. That's an interesting use of
- 19:18words there when he says use the word profited them that have
- 19:22been occupied there. I find that interesting.
- 19:25Oh, you got it. I thought you were going to move
- 19:27on to the next verse and I was going to just make a point of
- 19:29that because nobody had really touched on those people that
- 19:33exercise their hearts with meats like Andrew described, who build
- 19:38their life on these outward things.
- 19:40It's not profitable to them. It doesn't actually work.
- 19:43And I'm looking at First Timothy 4, which you also quoted Aaron
- 19:47Andrew, for. Bodily exercise profiteth.
- 19:50Little profiteth, but godliness is profitable unto all things,
- 19:55having the promise of the life that now is and that which is to
- 19:58come. So very similar type of passage
- 20:00in the in First Timothy 4. Yeah, yeah, that's good stuff.
- 20:06All right, I will go on to the next one.
- 20:08Yeah, go ahead, Dad on verse 10. Well, actually, let me read. 10
- 20:15says we have an altar where of they have no right to eat, which
- 20:19served the Tabernacle for the bodies of those beasts whose
- 20:22blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for
- 20:26sin or burnt the cab where for Jesus also that he might
- 20:32sanctify the people with his own blood suffered without the gate.
- 20:36I know that's kind of three verses there and each one has a
- 20:39period, but it it to me, it's kind of the it's the ball of wax
- 20:42there. So go ahead on whatever part of
- 20:43that you'd like to discuss there.
- 20:46Yeah, that would definitely be a lot to try to cover in one
- 20:48little blurb here. But the last passage them that
- 20:53has not profited them that have been occupied therein.
- 20:57We have an altar wherever they I think it's the same people that
- 21:01he's referring to the them of the previous verse.
- 21:03They have no right to eat which serve the Tabernacle.
- 21:07So the people, the Levites that served in the Old Testament
- 21:11Tabernacle that established their hearts with meats, with
- 21:15blood offerings, with ordinances, with rules, with
- 21:18customs, with procedure and policy, they had no right to eat
- 21:24of this Tabernacle or of the altar that we now get to eat of
- 21:28by faith. And Jesus in John chapter 6
- 21:32describes himself as the bread of life, the Father's 8 manna
- 21:36and the wilderness. They're dead.
- 21:38The bread that I'm coming giving to you is come down from heaven.
- 21:41If you eat from it, you shall never die.
- 21:43And he's kind of flipping the script here a little bit.
- 21:45Where before in the Old Testament, under the old system
- 21:48in the Tabernacle, you would did establish your hearts by meats,
- 21:52by ordinances, by principles, by doing the right thing, adding,
- 21:57you know, crossing all your T's and dotting all your IS and
- 22:00getting all your ducks in a row. You had to do it just correctly.
- 22:04But he says those people who did all of that correctly, it didn't
- 22:07actually profit them. They didn't actually gain what
- 22:09they were looking for. We have by grace we have
- 22:12attained that which they were looking for and they trying to
- 22:16establish their hearts by meats have no right to eat of the
- 22:19altar that we now eat of that we eat of by faith.
- 22:23We eat of Christ and his flesh that he gave for us, right.
- 22:28And so then he goes into this the body of the beast whose
- 22:31blood is brought into the sanctuary of the high priests
- 22:33are burned without the camp. I I don't even know for sure,
- 22:36for sure where to fit that in, but I wanted to point that I
- 22:38don't know. Let somebody else touch on those
- 22:39other verses. Eric, Go.
- 22:43Ahead, I'll just read a verse that says what Dan just said.
- 22:46This is Romans 931. Romans 931 says But Israel,
- 22:52which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained
- 22:57to law of righteousness were four, because they sought it not
- 23:03by faith, but as it were by the works of the law.
- 23:07For they stumbled at that stumbling stone, as is written,
- 23:10Behold, I lay in son, a stumbling stone, a rock of
- 23:14offense. Whosoever believeth on him shall
- 23:16not be ashamed. Romans 10/1 says, My brethren,
- 23:20my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they
- 23:23might be saved. For I bury them record they have
- 23:27a zeal of God, right? I mean, what we just said, they
- 23:29established their hearts in some law, right?
- 23:32I mean, they're seeking God through something.
- 23:35I bury them record they have a zeal of God, but not according
- 23:39to knowledge for they being ignorant of God's righteousness
- 23:43and going about to establish their own righteousness have not
- 23:48submitted themselves under the righteousness of God for Christ
- 23:52is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that
- 23:56believeth right. It didn't profit him any because
- 23:59they wasn't seeking it. They and said this, but that
- 24:02verse says it real well they weren't seeking it by faith
- 24:04right. I mean that was a real issue.
- 24:06They were doing a work, they were actually, and all the
- 24:10people, I would give them credit, all the people today,
- 24:14they're seeking righteousness, right?
- 24:16They're not going about to to worship on the the true Sabbath
- 24:21or stop eating meat to try to be evil.
- 24:24They're not doing that to try to indulge the flesh, right?
- 24:28They're actually withholding from the flesh to do those
- 24:30things. So they are seeking
- 24:32righteousness, just not by faith, right?
- 24:35They're not doing it the right way.
- 24:39That's dead on. That's so good.
- 24:42That's Colossians 2. Right.
- 24:45Good stuff. I love that.
- 24:46That's so awesome. Yeah.
- 24:48It seems like like he's showing the believers here, the Hebrew
- 24:52believers, how that Christ actually fulfilled the law,
- 24:57right? Because because what he's saying
- 24:59here, he says for the bodies of those beasts whose blood is
- 25:02brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin are
- 25:05burned without the camp. So the the animals that were
- 25:09brought for the sin offering, if I understand this correctly, I
- 25:12looked into Leviticus a little bit.
- 25:15The the animals that were brought for the sin offering,
- 25:17not the there was a confessing, not confession offering, but
- 25:23there's, there's several different offerings that they
- 25:26would bring animals for ought to offer for specifically the ones
- 25:30for the sin offering had to be burnt without the camp.
- 25:34Like they would take the blood and they would take the fat and
- 25:37they would put it on the altar. The high priest would, and then
- 25:40they would take the rest of the animal outside of the camp and
- 25:43they would God had commanded that it would be burnt outside
- 25:48of the camp. And So what I see here is, is
- 25:53he's just showing them. Why would you go back to the law
- 25:56when Christ has fulfilled the law because he died outside in
- 26:01in verse 12, it says that Jesus also that he might sanctify the
- 26:05people with his own blood suffered without the gate.
- 26:08Christ died outside of the city of Jerusalem, outside of the
- 26:12walls of the city of Jerusalem because which is like outside of
- 26:17the gate right of the of the Tabernacle, so to speak.
- 26:20If what he's showing us here, the reason he had to do that is
- 26:25so that he was his sacrifice is sufficient for our sins.
- 26:29So, so why go back to this law again, right?
- 26:34And so he's just showing them, hey, look, what Christ did is
- 26:38sufficient, right? Right, Andrew?
- 26:46OOP. Gotcha.
- 26:47He's a new hang. On a SEC, go ahead.
- 26:50Oh, now I lost my train of thought.
- 26:56It comes back to whether you put your faith and belief in what
- 27:04God has done in His Son and bringing and redeeming us.
- 27:10Most people will believe in that, that Jesus dies for our
- 27:13sins. That through him is how we're
- 27:16going to go to heaven. Millions of religious people
- 27:20that don't know God believe that.
- 27:22They believe that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, but
- 27:26they're not safe according to the God.
- 27:31According to God. When you believe the gospel, you
- 27:34don't believe in anything else. You don't trust in anything
- 27:38else. You don't trust both in the work
- 27:40of Christ and also in the work of flesh.
- 27:44You don't have any confidence in the flesh when you get when you
- 27:46gain confidence in in Christ and his sacrifice when you see Jesus
- 27:53hanging there, you don't see yourself anymore when you see
- 27:56that he has completed the sacrifice completed the the
- 28:00redemption in Colossians 2. It says we're completing him.
- 28:04When you see that you stop trying to make me made complete
- 28:08by anything you do and you find your completion in him and where
- 28:13I think there's a missing link a lot of times that I forget to
- 28:16mention is that a lot of people that hear that they then somehow
- 28:22think that we're somehow free now to do as we please or or
- 28:29that we're teaching that you can do as you please because you're
- 28:32no longer under the law. I won't say we're under a more
- 28:36stricter law than we ever were. It says the the carnal law of
- 28:41commandments could never make us perfect, but the law of life in
- 28:47Christ Jesus. I can't even quote it now, but
- 28:50there's the law of the Spirit of the life of Christ in us that I
- 28:57think is way more effective than any law of Moses could ever be.
- 29:03In that the Spirit is within us, convicting us to where the law
- 29:10might have said to go with the neighbor a mile, where the
- 29:12Spirit might say go within 2 miles.
- 29:17The Spirit, the law of the Spirit and the life of Christ in
- 29:21US is what God has provided to change our lives for something
- 29:28to walk after that makes us a better person than the law could
- 29:31ever make us. In other words, what I'm trying
- 29:34to say is if you, if we really believe in the Gospel and we'll
- 29:36walk in the Gospels, our lives will actually our outward life,
- 29:41the way we act, the way we live should be way better, a higher
- 29:47standard than any law following religious following person would
- 29:51ever be. That looks good on the outside.
- 29:54That was the problem that God had with the law is that it
- 29:57makes you good and the Pharisees, it's like you guys
- 30:00look good on the outside, but it's kind of like a a coffin.
- 30:06And that's what God hated. So his purpose was to change you
- 30:10from within and that hit the work of his Son would bring
- 30:14forth the fruit of righteousness.
- 30:17And so I don't want to miss that.
- 30:20Like when we're teaching this that we're not saying that, oh
- 30:25Jesus, make me free now I'm free to you as I please.
- 30:28I know that sounds kind of dumb, but people actually think that,
- 30:32you know? And if you think that you need
- 30:38the laws of some Levitical thing or meats, then I don't know that
- 30:42you have the Spirit. I don't because the Spirit is
- 30:45supposed to be superior to that. A perfected man in Christ Jesus
- 30:50lives different than alumni in the person.
- 30:54I would trust the Spirit LED person 10 * / a man that is led
- 30:58by the law. Yeah, yeah, that's good.
- 31:02Cameron posted here regarding this.
- 31:05He says I see the Levitical priesthood versus Melchizedek
- 31:09priesthood being compared here. I see these scriptures leading
- 31:13the Hebrews to the faith that is of Christ, which that's that's a
- 31:16good point. I there's the law of Moses that
- 31:19there's a law of the spirit of life.
- 31:21Just look at the difference. Behold the intimacy of Christ in
- 31:25US and the very thought of sitting because freedom from
- 31:29religion is disgusting. Yeah, that's.
- 31:31A good. Point that's I agree with that
- 31:34100%. So, yeah, and and any of you
- 31:38have additional comments on the the last two there versus at the
- 31:4311 or 12? I think I would probably save
- 31:47them for when we read verse 13, but one of the passages that
- 31:51came to mind just now and Andrew was speaking was Romans 84, that
- 31:54the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in US who
- 31:57walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
- 32:00Yeah. All right, so 13 verse 13 So
- 32:05Hebrews 1313 says Let us go. Therefore let us go forth
- 32:09therefore unto him without the cap, bearing his reproach.
- 32:14And obviously that kind of goes on verse 12 there wherefore
- 32:19Jesus also that he might sanctify the people with his own
- 32:21blood, suffered without the gate.
- 32:24Go ahead on on comments on that if you would.
- 32:28Yeah, so those that serve the Tabernacle still feel sufficient
- 32:32in themselves. They still feel confident that
- 32:35they're doing the right things. They're still following the
- 32:38commands, following the laws, doing the meats.
- 32:41They believe that they're doing what God wants and that God
- 32:43can't really be upset with them as long as they're still in the
- 32:46Tabernacle trying to offer God's sacrifices.
- 32:48However, they have no right to eat of the altar that Christ has
- 32:53established for us. And like Melvin mentioned,
- 32:55Christ went outside of Jerusalem.
- 32:58Why are you Christians now thinking of going back into
- 33:00Jerusalem to get your sufficiency and to establish
- 33:04your hearts. So basically the the the
- 33:06encouragement comes down to this is be willing to be the odd man
- 33:10out. Be willing to not fit in with
- 33:13all the religious do gooders that are doing the right thing.
- 33:16You might be doing the thing that they think is wrong at
- 33:19times, but you're following the way that Christ, a Christ also
- 33:23was taken outside of the city and crucified.
- 33:26So in regards to religion, in regards to sinful activity, we
- 33:30ought not to be worried about being the odd man out.
- 33:33Jesus was hated and the author is simply asking us to do the
- 33:36same in return. Be willing to suffer for your
- 33:38faith. Yeah.
- 33:41Yeah, that's right, Eric. Can you hear me or not?
- 33:47Yeah, OK. Well, it disappeared for a
- 33:49second there for me, but I don't really know.
- 33:54I'll be honest, I haven't studied it enough to know, but I
- 33:59feel like there is some significance to this.
- 34:02I'll tell you what I generally think.
- 34:03And like I said, I that I haven't really, I mean, I have
- 34:07went over that. We're going over it on Wednesday
- 34:09night where I teach. And I know that's true that they
- 34:13would like somebody said this earlier, the blood we poured out
- 34:16the altar, they would gather some of the blood poured at the
- 34:19altar. They would take some of the
- 34:22maybe better cuts almost of meat and maybe burn some of those on
- 34:26the altar. And then the rest of the stuff
- 34:28will be taken outside the camp and burned, right.
- 34:30I mean, ain't that kind of even in the offering there on the Day
- 34:34of Atonement? I think that happened.
- 34:37But so I think there is some significance to that, that we
- 34:41could point to Christ because obviously he is, He is the
- 34:46light. We lost him, he disappearedly.
- 34:54Bell would go ahead if you have anything and then we'll finish
- 34:57his thoughts when he comes back. Yeah, I think it is just a
- 35:01continuation obviously of 1011 and 12 referring to Christ and I
- 35:06I like what it it gives an invitation there almost it are
- 35:11not just almost it does give us an invitation there in verse 13
- 35:14it says let us go forth therefore unto him referring to
- 35:17Christ without the camp bearing his reproach.
- 35:23And so, you know, I think it's so beautiful when we commit our
- 35:28lives to Christ and in Christ alone, it, it's not going to be
- 35:34maybe as an easy life, so to speak, but it is a life of peace
- 35:40and joy and peace, like inner peace with God, right?
- 35:45Because when we live for Christ and when we put our whole life
- 35:51into Christ, we're going to bear some things that are not because
- 35:56it's outside of the camp, so to speak, like it, it's not really
- 36:01the the religious, what the religious people do to just be
- 36:07safe, right? Because it seems like when
- 36:10you're, you know, in religion and it seems like religious
- 36:13people are the ones that are actually against those that are
- 36:19just putting their faith in Christ.
- 36:22And so I think it's such a good thing it's just an invitation
- 36:25for us. Here in verse. 13 to to come to
- 36:29Christ, even though we might suffer some reproach by doing
- 36:36that and especially from like he just said, you know, diverse,
- 36:41diverse doctrines and, you know, to not be established and that
- 36:45and so there's there's going to be opposition that comes right.
- 36:49But hey, so be it and let's let's keep our eyes on Christ,
- 36:53right? Yeah, yeah, That's good, you
- 36:56know, and I'll let you finish your thought here, Aaron.
- 36:59But it seems almost like this is what, like metaphor.
- 37:04Is that the right metaphorical language?
- 37:06Almost in a sense that I think this the the this idea applies
- 37:10in multiple aspects. You know, it was the the
- 37:13offering that was that it was slave and then part of it was
- 37:16taken without the camp. Then here, you know, this, this
- 37:20spot is the the holiest that does the spot on Mount Zion
- 37:24where God is. That's the spot that is, you
- 37:26know, inside the camp. And then there's the outside of
- 37:28the unholy, the unrighteous, you know, out there.
- 37:31And that's kind of what I see these parallels.
- 37:34And I don't know if therefore is the right word or not, but that
- 37:37we we see that. That's why, you know, it's not
- 37:40the it's the sick ones that beat a doctor.
- 37:42It's the the ones out there that beat the gospel.
- 37:45That that's kind of what the parallel that I see him drawing
- 37:48here. Maybe, you know, as as a like
- 37:51Dan said earlier, kind of like like voting, telling us these
- 37:56are the things that we can do, some of the things that we could
- 37:59do as a Christian. So anyway, Eric, go ahead.
- 38:01You were kind of on to something good there.
- 38:03I thought, yeah. Yeah, I would.
- 38:05Just I don't know where I left off at.
- 38:07So I'll just kind of start a new what I can see in this is that
- 38:12Christ, obviously Christ himself is not offered inside the temple
- 38:21like all those like all those other sacrifices was on the Day
- 38:25of Atonement and all that so on and so forth.
- 38:28But he's already told us earlier that the he told us a few
- 38:35chapters back that his blood is actually offered in the true
- 38:38Tabernacle, which is in heaven, right?
- 38:41So he said that's actually where the real offerings made.
- 38:44I think you can see the symbolism in that his body is
- 38:48offered outside the camp, right? He wasn't burned out there, but
- 38:51he's he dies out there. He goes outside the camp and
- 38:54does that. But to me, what I really see in
- 38:57this is a another motivating verse for them to not feel like
- 39:02the place that atonement is made is in that Tabernacle that
- 39:06they're seeing in their day, right?
- 39:08That's not where the real atonement was made.
- 39:10It's actually, he's already told us it's made in heaven and
- 39:13Christ is sacrificed outside the camp.
- 39:16So don't go back in there looking as if that's where it's
- 39:19going to be made. I just told you a chapter here
- 39:22ago that it was actually made in heaven itself.
- 39:25You know, the blood was actually offered to God in heaven itself.
- 39:30So don't go back in there looking as if that's the real
- 39:33place that the real Lamb of God is going to be offered.
- 39:37Christ is the Lamb of God. His blood was offered in heaven.
- 39:40And and I just think that that's, I don't know that that's
- 39:43kind of what I saw in that verse, but.
- 39:46Boom, I think that's real good. Yep, absolutely.
- 39:48Very good. Andrew.
- 39:50Yeah, that's very good, very true.
- 39:53I was just going to say that we've said many times that you
- 40:00can tell these people were persecuted and so they were
- 40:03burying the reproaches. And he's just telling them,
- 40:05look, that's nothing new, Christ or the reproaches outside the
- 40:10camp. And we need to bear the
- 40:14reproaches and we need to be able to look like a filthy sin
- 40:20offering sometimes, like doesn't look good sometimes.
- 40:27The name of God is blasphemed by the unbelief and the sin of
- 40:33Christians all the time. We we really do a good job in
- 40:38ruining our the reputation of a believer a lot of times.
- 40:41And then you know, the unbelievers, they, they will
- 40:44gladly pounce on that. And that's unfortunate.
- 40:48But nevertheless, we need to bear the reproaches of whatever
- 40:54comes. Why do we lose all our friends
- 40:56like Melvin was saying, whether we are different, whether we're
- 40:59not going with the flow, we're standing on Jesus Christ
- 41:04regardless of the persecution. And there's another verse in
- 41:10First Timothy 4 that I was saying that really goes seems to
- 41:14really goes with this chapter and or verse tenaces for
- 41:18therefore we both labor and suffer reproach because because
- 41:22we trust in the living God who is the Savior of all men,
- 41:26especially for those that believe.
- 41:30Good stuff. Absolutely.
- 41:34OK, verse 14 for here have we no continuing city, but we seek
- 41:42what to come. Yeah, we'll just do that little
- 41:46short one. Any thoughts on that?
- 41:49I think this is kind of hitting the nail on the head exactly
- 41:52what Andrew said is that they're tempted, they're struggling,
- 41:56they're having a difficult time and and the the flesh, their
- 42:00desires, their natural tendencies is to seek a city
- 42:04here to build something here to establish their hearts in meats
- 42:08and physical things, to have a continuing city to have
- 42:12posterity, to have, you know, a world that that fits my my wants
- 42:18and my desires and my wishes. But he says don't think about
- 42:21that in this life. We have a world that is to come
- 42:23that is subject to man as well-being, Christ being the the
- 42:27captain of our salvation. But we're not living for this
- 42:30world here and now. To me, I, I don't know what my,
- 42:34my post millennial friends might do with a verse like this.
- 42:37I'm sure they have an answer for it.
- 42:39They typically have their ways of seeing things.
- 42:42But to me, this kind of takes all of our hope away from
- 42:46anything here lasting. We're not looking to build
- 42:49anything lasting here. Do I want my children and my
- 42:51grandchildren, my great grandchildren to worship the
- 42:54Lord? Absolutely.
- 42:55Would I like to see them build, you know, have a church and have
- 42:59their children born in that church as well, where they
- 43:01gather together with the same community of believers and all
- 43:04those things? Yes, of course.
- 43:06But he reminds us we have no continuing city here, but we
- 43:09seek one to come, like Abraham, looking for a city who has that
- 43:13foundations. His builder and maker is God.
- 43:16We're not looking to establish ourselves here.
- 43:19So don't be afraid to go without the camp where Christ suffered.
- 43:22Don't worry about the fact that all your Jewish people are
- 43:24criticizing you for Christ not being back yet.
- 43:27Don't cave to the pressures of going back to Jerusalem.
- 43:30Stay outside the city. Go where Christ is.
- 43:33Don't worry about anything continuing here and now we see
- 43:36we're seeking for something that is better and more lasting and
- 43:39more permanent in the world that is to come.
- 43:43So good, Velvet. Or, excuse me, I guess it's
- 43:46Aaron's turn. It's whatever order you want to
- 43:50go in. But but I was going to say, I
- 43:53was actually going to maybe build on that a little.
- 43:56What Dan just said. I actually think it's that's
- 43:59part of the reason I said what I said earlier is because of verse
- 44:0214 for we have no continuing city because I would almost say
- 44:09it's one of those verses that they're going to look back on
- 44:13because would you all agree? I think I don't know.
- 44:15I'd actually don't even know what the historical what they
- 44:18would say, but I would assume by all the things he said, the
- 44:22temple is still here, right this before 70 AD, like when he's
- 44:25writing this is that is that common thought?
- 44:29I mean, so I would say this is one of those verses that
- 44:34whatever many years that happens, they may look back on
- 44:37what was written here and think, wow, what I thought would always
- 44:42be here, like Jerusalem, like the temple is now gone, right.
- 44:47It's it's actually it literally is gone now.
- 44:50This city, this, this temple that I was seeing and I was
- 44:54putting so much stock in at one time.
- 44:57It's actually gone. So I said that to say this, that
- 45:02he, he has just he's he's made this similarity, like I said a
- 45:10while ago that the Christ is he suffers without the camp.
- 45:13And I and I was just like I said, I don't know this is
- 45:16right, but this is what I was thinking is that their body, if
- 45:20you remember, if you go back and look at Exodus and different
- 45:23places, they would take a lot of that the literal body of the
- 45:29animal. They would take its blood and
- 45:30poured at the altar, but the body would be taken outside the
- 45:34camp and and and burnt gotten rid of out there.
- 45:38Well, if you put that with Christ, think about his
- 45:41suffering, you know, like the the destroying, if you will, of
- 45:46the body is outside the camp, but the but the but the
- 45:50atonement of the blood is in the real Tabernacle in heaven,
- 45:56right. I said that a while ago.
- 45:57So he's saying we have no continuing city, but we seek one
- 46:03to come. The place where Christ's blood
- 46:06is atoned is he's like going to come down.
- 46:10Would you agree with that? But that that's what we're told,
- 46:12that New Jerusalem is going to come down.
- 46:13God's going to be in that. Like that is actually something
- 46:17we are looking forward to. So again, I think he's just
- 46:20pointing them to something beyond what they have seen and
- 46:26known. And like I said, I think in a
- 46:28few years from this time, they're going to read this verse
- 46:30and be like, yeah, sure enough, I mean, the temple is gone.
- 46:33Like the thing that we put our trust in to think we was tempted
- 46:37to go back and sacrifice that at is not even there anymore.
- 46:41Like it's actually gone. So we are looking for this this
- 46:45place that Christ actually did atone his body.
- 46:48I mean, did atone his blood in. And I don't know, that may be a
- 46:52jumbled thought, but that's just kind of what I was.
- 46:54Thinking about. Yeah, I think, I think you're on
- 46:57to something there, Velvet. Go ahead.
- 47:00Yeah, that's kind of I see here. I mean, he's just saying, look,
- 47:04guys, let's put our faith, keep our faith in Christ and not in
- 47:08the Levitical priesthood and not in any earthly thing, including
- 47:13a continuing city because you know, they in Jerusalem there
- 47:16there is the Wailing Wall where, you know, just outside of where.
- 47:20Actually the. Jerusalem was and you can only
- 47:24get so close today, right? And there's people that go there
- 47:27and and want to go to Jerusalem and, and he's just saying here,
- 47:32why would you want to go to a city here on this earth?
- 47:36Because we seek one to come because right now the new
- 47:40Jerusalem is in the heavenly Tabernacle.
- 47:43Like he, just like you were saying Aaron up in heaven right
- 47:46now. And in in revelations, it says,
- 47:49and I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem coming down
- 47:53from God out of heaven prepared as he bride or deed adorn for a
- 47:58husband. And what I really like what it
- 48:01says in verse 3, it says, and I heard a great voice out of
- 48:04heaven saying, behold, the Tabernacle of God is with men
- 48:09and he will dwell with them. So in other words, we want to be
- 48:13looking for a heavenly Jerusalem and someday that we're going to
- 48:18dwell with God there with him, physically with him through our
- 48:24faith in Christ and only in through our faith in Christ.
- 48:28And I guess that's, I see that's what he's trying to come across
- 48:31here to them. It's good, Andrew.
- 48:36Yeah, I'll you guys did a good job of sharing what is
- 48:42pertaining to the letter here and to the people was to I might
- 48:47go a little different angle, like more of the present time
- 48:50for us right now that I think this could be applicable to.
- 48:55Is that how many times do we hear the word?
- 48:59It's like I just don't fit in here.
- 49:02It's hard for me to fit in like all these different cultures.
- 49:06And I think this is a good verse to think about when you feel
- 49:09that way is are you trying to fit in based on this life?
- 49:15And are you looking at our cultures and your culture and
- 49:20that culture, or are we looking at where we're one in the
- 49:26spirit? There's a lot of verses in the
- 49:29Bible that says we're all made one in the spirit that come from
- 49:32whole different angles of life. But one thing that unites us and
- 49:36makes US1 is spiritual wisdom and spiritual understanding.
- 49:41So this verse really fires me up again to preach your gospel,
- 49:46preach a message that has not, is not tied to any kind of
- 49:49culture, any kind of backgrounds or religion or whatever.
- 49:55The kind of gospel that unites us with the gospel that's going
- 49:58to and the atonement and the blood that is already sprinkled
- 50:01in the true Cabernet, something that unites us and makes US1
- 50:04with that. So that no matter what
- 50:08background you come from or what culture, when you hear the
- 50:12message preached that our fellowship, it witnesses with
- 50:17the Spirit that is in you and the Spirit that raised up Christ
- 50:20from the dead. That makes you fit in.
- 50:23You fit in that way because you fit in.
- 50:26You're ministered to you're ministered to by heavenly
- 50:28things, a city and have a spiritual Kingdom that is in
- 50:32heaven. That is where you find you're
- 50:34fitting in. That's where you find your
- 50:36oneness. That's where you find your
- 50:38fellowship, your meat. That's the food, that's your
- 50:45your spiritual food that edifies.
- 50:47Is there not man, you're speaking Dutch over there.
- 50:51What is that? You know, I hope this verse
- 50:56could help, you know, unite us more and see what's really
- 50:59important. And it is that we see the city
- 51:03that is not here, it's in heaven.
- 51:05And that that could help us really enjoy fellowship with
- 51:10different people. Knowing that, knowing this, you
- 51:13know that our our unity is not in this culture.
- 51:19Yeah, Yeah, that's good. I, I drove on Saturday, I drove
- 51:23what, 12 hours something east of where I live.
- 51:28And then Sunday morning we went to a little church down at the
- 51:31foot of the hill in Eastern Kentucky.
- 51:35And I sat in there and we sang together and we heard a word
- 51:40preached and we heard prayer going up.
- 51:43And I'll be something if they weren't praising and serving the
- 51:47same God that I do in Iowa. And it was, it was speaking
- 51:51right to my spirit, just like the one does there in Iowa.
- 51:54And it was, it was exciting that I love that.
- 51:57That was fun. It wasn't quite a random church.
- 51:59I knew a guy that was preaching there.
- 52:00But but it's good. I mean that that's kind of what
- 52:04you're saying though. I mean, we get fit there in that
- 52:07in that all that outside that he talked about in Chapter 11 or a
- 52:1112 there. That's verse 22.
- 52:13That's what we're talking about within the temple where God
- 52:17presides, where he lives. That's that's pretty good.
- 52:19Stuff. That's where you want to fit in
- 52:21at anyway, right? Absolutely you know the rest of
- 52:23it's kind of yeah, if it's comfortable great, but if it's
- 52:26not So what that and that's kind of what he was saying in chapter
- 52:2912 there anyway so yeah, hey that's good stuff.
- 52:35All right let's see where we at here.
- 52:37Verse 15 says by him. Therefore, let us offer the
- 52:41sacrifice of praise to God continually.
- 52:45That is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.
- 52:51I find it interesting that he calls this the sacrifice of
- 52:56praise. I mean, we are always looking
- 52:59for something that we can sacrifice, that we could give
- 53:01up, that we can do. And often times I think that
- 53:05comes maybe from a, you know, in a sense, kind of a legalistic
- 53:09standpoint, maybe a little bit. But here he's asking for the
- 53:12sacrifice of praise. Isn't that cool?
- 53:14I love it. I heard a little bits of hints
- 53:18of this from Andrew early on at the beginning of our study here
- 53:22today about our our lips speaking.
- 53:24And I could tell he was thinking in terms of the whole chapter.
- 53:28And it makes a lot of sense to to look at that way, even if you
- 53:31look at the verses that we just went through.
- 53:32And then go back to chapter 13, verse 5.
- 53:36Let your conversation be without covetousness.
- 53:38Be content with such things as you have.
- 53:40He will never leave you nor forsake you.
- 53:42Go out of the city, be willing to suffer.
- 53:44We have no continuing city here. Like all that stuff ties
- 53:48perfectly together. And then like, it's like they
- 53:50desperately want this offering. They want to do some kind of
- 53:53sacrifice. We've got to offer something to
- 53:55God. But the people that made those
- 53:58sacrifices there, they have no place at our altar.
- 54:01But if you really want to make a sacrifice, how about you try
- 54:03this? This gives thanks for the things
- 54:06in his name that you have right now.
- 54:08Offer a sacrifice and praise to God continually all the time.
- 54:13We can do this at the dinner table.
- 54:15We can do this when we rise up in the morning, Thank God first
- 54:18thing in the morning. You can it.
- 54:19It sometimes takes a bit of a sacrifice because not everything
- 54:22in you is always going to want to give thanks for all the
- 54:25situations, all the circumstances, all the
- 54:27difficulties you're going through.
- 54:28You might be literally without the camp.
- 54:30You might be without your family.
- 54:32You might be kicked out of the church.
- 54:33You might have a really difficult time, your finances,
- 54:36your sickness, your health, whatever it might be, might be
- 54:39suffering. So it might be an actual
- 54:41sacrifice for you. But by him we can continually
- 54:46offer this sacrifice, the fruit of our lips.
- 54:49You know, you think about Cain bringing the fruit of the
- 54:52vegetables and, and all that to God and it wasn't sufficient.
- 54:55Abel brought the the sacrifice of blood, the lamb before God.
- 54:59It was an acceptable sacrifice. Now we have the one acceptable
- 55:03sacrifice, the blood of the Lord Jesus, Jesus.
- 55:05And because of that, now we can continually OfferUp these
- 55:08praises to God. What do we do?
- 55:10Thank you God for the one offering.
- 55:12Thank you for the great thing that you did for us.
- 55:14And this is the fruit of our lips going up to God, giving
- 55:18thanks in his name continuously. It's it's a beautiful privilege
- 55:22and ability that we now have. Yeah.
- 55:27Oh, that's good preaching, Aaron.
- 55:31I couldn't find the verse quick enough, but maybe one of you all
- 55:35know where it is. You know where where the guy
- 55:40comes to Jesus and says heal my son.
- 55:43And Jesus says, OK, I'll come over there.
- 55:46And he says, no, no, you just, you just speak a word because
- 55:49I'm a man under authority like you are.
- 55:51And he says, oh, I've not found such great faith.
- 55:54No, not in Israel. You remember the story I'm
- 55:56talking about Like I've not seen such great faith.
- 56:00That was a great honor to Jesus for the man to say you are in a
- 56:08position in which you don't need to come to my house, you can
- 56:11just do it right. He was recognizing him as God.
- 56:14And I think that when he says that this this offering of a
- 56:21sacrifice of the praise to God continually the fruit of our
- 56:25lives given thanks to his name. I mean, that's what I mean.
- 56:28God wants to be recognized for who he is, right?
- 56:32He there's really that's great honor.
- 56:34In fact, the opposite side of that is in Romans chapter 1 when
- 56:38he says that they because this is Romans 121 because that when
- 56:44they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were
- 56:48thankful. So I mean, think about he, he
- 56:54just called it an offering. He called it a sacrifice that
- 56:57you can make by honoring God, giving him praise and thanks for
- 57:01who he is. And it's like there's really
- 57:05compare that to what you would offer him and it's there's no
- 57:09comparison, right? He wouldn't call.
- 57:11He would call. He would actually be offended if
- 57:13you try to give him something or OfferUp something that you that
- 57:17you've done on your own or whatever.
- 57:20But he says, Now you praise me for who I am, and I'll, I'll,
- 57:24I'll call that a sacrifice. Right.
- 57:26I will appreciate that. I, I'll recognize that to be
- 57:28real. And so that that that's what I
- 57:31thought about the verse. That's right, the verse you were
- 57:34looking for was Luke 7, verse eight.
- 57:36OK, that story is? I knew the story, I just
- 57:39couldn't find it out. Yep, absolutely, Melvin.
- 57:44Yeah, I think it's just such a beautiful thing that we in
- 57:47Christ, we can we don't have to do a physical sacrifice anymore,
- 57:53right? That that that's what he just
- 57:55got done saying here previous verses, you know, pointing out
- 57:59about the Levitical was a physical sacrifice that had to
- 58:02be made for the term and his sin.
- 58:05And here it is saying that by him, by Christ.
- 58:09Therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God
- 58:12continue. That is the fruit of our lips
- 58:15giving thanks to his name. So whenever we're giving thanks
- 58:18to his name, it's just it's a actually offer of sacrifice to
- 58:24God. And that's such a beautiful
- 58:25thing. We don't have to go to the
- 58:28priest with our, you know, sacrifice and say here, you know
- 58:32it. It's just it our life is our
- 58:36words. Actually, what this verse is
- 58:38saying is a sacrifice of praise to God.
- 58:42And I think that's such a beautiful thing in Colossians 3
- 58:45and also gives us a, a picture here of what it looks like to be
- 58:51in fellowship with Christ with other believers, right?
- 58:56In Colossians, it says whatsoever you do in Word or
- 58:59deed and do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to
- 59:02God and, and the Father by him. So it's just such a beautiful
- 59:08thing that we can be in the body of Christ with other believers
- 59:13and, and just be able to together be able to do this to
- 59:20God and just it's such a beautiful thing, right?
- 59:23Why would you go back to to a physical law and the physical
- 59:29things and it's such a spiritual thing.
- 59:34Yep, Andrew. Yeah, I just wanted to quickly
- 59:36point out that this is not as simple as saying thank you,
- 59:39Lord, for this. I'm so glad.
- 59:41But then I'm also thank you for this and I'm thank you for that.
- 59:45This is you adding up where he said in the book of Hebrews that
- 59:49this is the song. You look at Jesus, you look at
- 59:52the fact that he died outside the camp.
- 59:54You look at the fact that his blood is spring of the true
- 59:57Tabernacle. You add up all the things that
- 1:00:00God is telling us that His Son did, and you add it up and you
- 1:00:02go. You know what?
- 1:00:04I ain't got nothing to say except thank you, Jesus, Amen.
- 1:00:09God, I counted it. I'm there's nothing, there's no
- 1:00:13part of me saying, well, I feel a little holding.
- 1:00:16I I just can't fully trust. So what I would say to someone
- 1:00:21that is still sacrificing or still standing for means is that
- 1:00:25you're not thankful. God can't receive your words of
- 1:00:28Thanksgiving when you're actually holding out on him and
- 1:00:31adding it up and saying he's a little short.
- 1:00:34He's a little short on the sacrifice.
- 1:00:36That would be like me giving my daughter a gift that is a
- 1:00:41perfect gift and she all she can see is the shortcomings of that
- 1:00:45gift and she says thank you, dad, but you know she's holding
- 1:00:49out. You know, her heart's not
- 1:00:51settled in the completion of that gift and she she says the
- 1:00:56words thank you, Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross.
- 1:00:59Thank you. You know, we do all these
- 1:01:00sinners prayers and we we'd say these lousy prayers every Sunday
- 1:01:04about, you know, thank you for dying.
- 1:01:06And then we go right back to these diverse doctrines of
- 1:01:09devils, demons, a whole bunch of religion and that's unbelief and
- 1:01:16not being thankful. You can't thank God for
- 1:01:18something you don't believe in or trust in 100%.
- 1:01:21That's not true sacrifice of praise in my according to these
- 1:01:25verses. I don't think it is.
- 1:01:28No, that's good stuff. Like you gift your daughter a
- 1:01:31Chevy and she wants a Mercedes. Yeah, You know, she's unhappy
- 1:01:35that she get to get a Merced. Well.
- 1:01:37Our faith is hard. It gets tried.
- 1:01:39So we start reaching for things. We start seeing the
- 1:01:42shortcomings. This this sacrifice was supposed
- 1:01:44to make me happy. It was supposed to make me.
- 1:01:47This faith was supposed to put me on autopilot where everything
- 1:01:49is easy. And then we get tried and then
- 1:01:52we start reaching for diverse doctrines and I think we need to
- 1:01:56say where we know it's a complete gift and we're the
- 1:01:59sacrifice. Of Christ, Yep, Yep, I agree
- 1:02:02with that. I would say too, if you ever, if
- 1:02:06any anyone ever has a down day, I know this this is this works
- 1:02:10for me anyway. If you have a tough day or
- 1:02:12whatever, just settle it in your heart to go about and thank God
- 1:02:17for what he done what he did or who he is.
- 1:02:20You know how great he is, how awesome he is and that he thinks
- 1:02:25of you, that he, that he's your mediator.
- 1:02:27All those things like you start kind of contemplating what God
- 1:02:32is and or who he is and what he has done on our behalf.
- 1:02:37I don't think you could stay unhappy very long or I'm
- 1:02:39unthankful if you start actually like considering those things.
- 1:02:42So anyway, we'll quit there 2 minutes past, so good job.
- 1:02:50As we conclude today's study. Remember Hebrews 11/1.
- 1:02:53Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of
- 1:02:55things not seen. And I pray that your faith would
- 1:02:58reveal biblical truths more clearly than your physical eyes
- 1:03:01can perceive the things before you.
- 1:03:04Join us next Monday as we continue to look at God's Word
- 1:03:06through the substance of faith. God bless you guys.
- 1:03:08I appreciate your time and your effort here this night.
- 1:03:12God bless.
