- 0:09Even Wiba Madison in the morning and ask the experts. Joined this morning by
- 0:16our good friend Andrew Larson. Andrew comes to us from Larson Holmes Services.
- 0:20The website you want to guess the website is, it's it's an easy one
- 0:23to remember. It's Larsen Holmeservices dot com. The only thing that might trip
- 0:26you up, it's O S O N. And again there's a couple of
- 0:29different spellings for Larson, but it's l A R S O N. Home
- 0:32Services dot com. DELF number six eight five three five forty three forty three.
- 0:36That's five three five four three four three. Andrew, how you doing
- 0:40this morning, a friend? Well, I dropped my mike and broke it,
- 0:44so I'm calling you today from an old fashioned cell phone. Oh my
- 0:48goodness. You know, I don't know how it founds, but I'm here
- 0:53and uh yeah, good thing. These mikes aren't that expensive ent these days.
- 0:57That's that is a bonus, yea is. Yeah, it's that's a
- 1:02bummer man. And some are some are built better than others. But yeah,
- 1:04as you mentioned, they're they're they're a nice nice deal to get pretty
- 1:08cool stuff too, as far as as using them and speaking of really cool
- 1:11things and some cool technology that's out there, an affordable technology that as a
- 1:15matter of fact only affordable. It can save you doctor energy save. We're
- 1:19going to talk about that in just a moment, but first I want to
- 1:22talk to you just a little bit about roofs and specifically again, this is
- 1:26like going to be a whole theme this week about durability, affordability, and
- 1:30of course making sure that the most i would say arguably the most important part
- 1:36of your one of your most important parts of your homes, which is what
- 1:38protects it is your roof. And one of the cool things you guys do
- 1:41at Largest Home Services Andrew is you do roof inspections just to make sure that
- 1:47there's not a problem, because we've learned that if there's a problem with your
- 1:49roof, by the time you realize there's a problem with the roof, it's
- 1:53caused significant damage. Often, hasn't it, Yes, it has. And
- 1:57you know, typically people only think about their roof like when there's a problem
- 2:04or maybe we're googling on the internet. You know, how long should a
- 2:07roof last? And you know, a lot of shingles that were made,
- 2:10say thirty twenty five thirty even twenty years ago. You know, they say
- 2:15a thirty years shingle or lifetime shingle, and that very well may be,
- 2:20but that doesn't necessarily mean that all the components of the roof we're made to
- 2:23last that long. So something that we offer our free roof inspections. And
- 2:29you know, it's kind of funny. Sometimes we go out for for a
- 2:31gutter shutter estimate or you know, even a roof estimate last you know,
- 2:35almore, when's the last time your roof was inspected? And nobody ever has
- 2:39the roof inspected. It's just not something that we think about. You know.
- 2:44We might have our HVAC system service annually. I mean that's good things
- 2:50do because otherwise it usually might stop working when we most need it. But
- 2:55but I like how you put that. Arguably, one of the most important
- 2:59things, if not the most important thing on your home is your roof.
- 3:02If your roof leaks, it leads to a whole plethora of problems and expensive
- 3:09damage. So if your roof is in that age, i mean even fifteen
- 3:14years old, again, the shingles might look but we we get up there,
- 3:19we inspect flashing. How are chimney flashing done. How is the chimney
- 3:23flash? Is there a chimney cricket? How is the ventilation system working?
- 3:27Pipe boots. We have a lot of plumbing penetrations and different penetrations that go
- 3:35through the roof. You see pipe sticking up. Those always have some sort
- 3:38of flashing or boot around them. Sometimes some are better than others, Some
- 3:44are made to last longer than others. And typically if one is going bad,
- 3:49the rest of them are about too, simply because they were all put
- 3:52up there at the same time. And what really makes things like that go
- 3:54bad is v raised from the sun. So they're wist always on the same
- 4:00side of the roof for the most part, and usually one on one starts
- 4:05going, so does the rest. So having a roof inspection done, especially
- 4:11when it's free, you know, sometimes we find stuff sometimes every good sooth.
- 4:16I think there's peace of mind in either thing. When that get we
- 4:21say hey, this is the inspection, this is what everything looks great,
- 4:26there's peace of mind in that. Or we come back and say, hey,
- 4:29there's a few things that need to be restored on your roof to get
- 4:32you more years out of you have without having that issue. When we get
- 4:40a heavy rain and having a leak. There's peace of mind in that too.
- 4:44We're spending a couple of thousand dollars can save tens of thousand dollars of
- 4:48a leak in the house once it comes to the insulation and you start seeing
- 4:53that spot on the ceiling. So a free roof inspection is a good thing
- 4:58again we might find, but again peace of mind either way, knowing.
- 5:03And sometimes we get up there to do a roof inspection thinking, hey,
- 5:06maybe we just need some repairs, and we find that we've got major granular
- 5:11loss, we've got matt cracking, and it's really time to have the roof
- 5:15replaced. So it's kind of just a it's a proactive way to look at
- 5:20things that are waiting until missing shingles, waiting until we have a leak that's
- 5:27coming inside the house. It's great to hit know too. You mentioned that
- 5:30the free inspection and having your roof looked at and one of the great things
- 5:32that you guys offer at large storm service. As you mentioned, there may
- 5:35be a situation where the whole roof does need to be replaced, but there
- 5:39also may be one where there's a small damaged area and as we all know,
- 5:42things like maintenance and refreshing and kind of dealing with small problems before they
- 5:46become big problems. Not only do they save you money, but it can
- 5:48prolong the life of your roof. And what's funny, Andrew is I had
- 5:53we had that win the other week, and our television antenna and I,
- 5:56yes, I do still watch over the air television at home. Our TV
- 6:00antenna guy, yeah, got kind of knocked out of wax. So I
- 6:02was getting kind of those those they call it tiling, where like the screen
- 6:06would occasionally kind of flicker, and I couldn't watch the news. And so
- 6:10I get on the back of my house and I put up the ladder and
- 6:13I climb up the ladder and I was going to take a picture while I
- 6:15was up there, because it's been a few years since you guys did our
- 6:18roof, and I'm like, this thing looks as great as the day that
- 6:23you guys put the roof on. Not just the roof itself, but when
- 6:26you were talking about about the different events and the different pieces up there,
- 6:30I thought, this stuff it looks literally and again it's spent. It's I
- 6:32think four or five years now, it still looks absolutely amazing in brand,
- 6:38spank and new. And that's the other great thing about about working with you
- 6:41guys at Lars Home Services is the quality of the work is not only is
- 6:46it, you know, providing shelter for your shelter, but it's also going
- 6:48to look great as well. And there's so many cool options as well with
- 6:50Larslome Services. So today is a day six eight five three five forty three
- 6:56forty three. That's six eight five three five four three four three. Call
- 7:00Andrew and the team at Largstome Services have them get you that free roof inspection.
- 7:03Again, the best thing you're going to hear is there's nothing wrong.
- 7:06Everything looks great. If there is a problem, there's a variety of options
- 7:10for addressing it and addressing it properly. The other great thing too this time
- 7:13of year, Andrew, in no time you and I are going to be
- 7:15talking winter weather and we're going to be talking about cold temperatures and wear and
- 7:19tear on your furnace. And one of the cool things about Largstome Services is
- 7:25Doctor Energy Saver or something you've been offering for the past few years, that
- 7:29home energy audit and the great opportunity to make sure that your house is performing
- 7:33well when it comes to insulation. And one of the areas, and pardon
- 7:38me, I'm going on and on about this, one of the really interesting
- 7:40areas that I've learned a lot from you about over the years is we typically
- 7:44think attic insulation, which is obviously important, wall insulation, which is important.
- 7:48But the thing we don't always think about is when it comes insulation is
- 7:51if you've got a crawl space or a basement, insulation there as well.
- 7:55Most of the time, as homeowners, we never think about that stuff.
- 7:58With doctor Energy say that is all part of that energy audit, and of
- 8:03course is all part of making sure that the house is sealed up. It
- 8:07is and so the home works as an entire system. So there are a
- 8:15lot of homes that have While almost almost all homes have an attic or some
- 8:20attic, a lot of homes have a crawl space, especially older homes,
- 8:26where a lot of older homes had porches that were turned into living space because
- 8:30hey, the puddings were there, it was cost effective to put some walls
- 8:33up, insulate and throw some insulation under the floor. And now we've got
- 8:37more living space and we're seeing it nowadays. Two sometimes they're just building a
- 8:41home with a crawl space and no basement enough to get mechanicals down there and
- 8:46such. Back in the day when they would turn or put an addition on
- 8:50with crawl space or turn some sort of porch into a living space, they
- 8:56thought it was best practice because that area could get moisture in it. You
- 9:01wanted to vent it and then throw some insulation up on the up on the
- 9:05ceiling or what would be just the bottom of the floor in that crawl space.
- 9:09What we now know, what we know nowadays, is that's definitely not
- 9:13the best practice because basically what we're doing is we're allowing that you know,
- 9:18that area when it's negative twenty degrees outside, that crawl space area is going
- 9:24to be twenty degrees or negative twenty degrees as well as your insulation. Trying
- 9:30to keep it on that floor is it's almost impossible. It's always pulling away
- 9:33from the floor. And if we what we know, one thing we know
- 9:37about insulation is if it's not in contact with what we want it to be,
- 9:41it's literally doing nothing. So when we come out and we take a
- 9:43look at the home, we're gonna look at the crawl space. We're gonna
- 9:46look at the attic. We're gonna look at can lights, We're gonna look
- 9:50at all the all the penetrations in the home are in the attic to make
- 9:54sure that everything gets sealed up properly so that we can stop stack effects,
- 10:00we can stop the heat loss. You know, a lot of people don't
- 10:03think about this stuff in the summer either, but man, with the summer
- 10:05we have, we've we've met seventy people that can't keep their home cool.
- 10:11When we go on the home and we do thermal hinging on the ceiling on
- 10:15a ninety five degree day, and that ceiling is eighty five degrees and you're
- 10:20trying to keep that room at seventy, You're you're basically fighting a losing battle,
- 10:24and the air condition is never going to shut off. You're just never
- 10:28gonna win. So that's when that insulation in the attic comes into play.
- 10:33Most honesty in the summer, it is keeping that attic, which your attic
- 10:37is probably gonna be one hundred thirty hundred forty degrees when it's ninety outside,
- 10:41keep that attic from from from keep it from baking the room below it.
- 10:48And in the winner, we want it reverse we want that air ceiling done
- 10:50right and we want the insulation. So summers coming to an end. Looks
- 10:56like we've got a few more really really hot day but it's gonna be getting
- 11:01cooler. It kind of felt like fall in the air this morning. You
- 11:05know, it was nice and cool out right now, what is it chuff
- 11:07right now? Fifty six degrees yeah, so yeah, it's gonna be what
- 11:13eighty five today? I don't know, it's gonna be hot. It's gonna
- 11:16be hot today. It's gonna be in the nineties this weekend. To Andrews,
- 11:20it's gonna be very, very warm. Now. It might be a
- 11:24little bit too late for us to get that insulation done to help you with
- 11:28the air conditioning this year, but again it is going to get cold.
- 11:33If you're questioning how your air ceiling is done, if the can lights are
- 11:37covered, Polly Insulation is, have us come out, have us take a
- 11:41look. You know, we can measure what your our value is. We
- 11:43can tell you pull your whole system is working as a whole and give you
- 11:50option. Sometimes we don't do it all right away, sometimes we do it
- 11:54in pieces, but we can give you an option to get everything done properly,
- 12:00air ceiling, insulating, can light covers. You're at a catch at
- 12:05A catch is a huge component of of slowing down stack effect. It's usually
- 12:13never, it's never stealed, almost never, and for most people it's literally
- 12:16just usually a piece of sheet rock laying on top of some wood and maybe
- 12:22have some insulation on top. You lose a ton of heat through an atta
- 12:26catch. We're going to insulate that property. We're gonna air steal that properly.
- 12:30Make sure your home stay is comfortable and that you're heating and their conditioning
- 12:33units can work as efficiently as possible. Today's the goal. Today is the
- 12:39day to achieve that goal and and rowin the team at large. Stome Services
- 12:43want to do that for you. It's a prime time. We talk about,
- 12:45of course the hot weekend ahead and of course the cold days of winter
- 12:48coming in no time. A lot of times folks have cool spots in their
- 12:52house or areas that are just not comfortable. They always call the HVAC,
- 12:54and of course what the HVAC do. They crank it up so you get
- 12:58more and more heat and open up those vents, which costs you more and
- 13:00more money. Prevent that call the folks at Larson Home Services, get doctor
- 13:03Energy Saver on the case, get your house insulated properly and make sure that
- 13:09you can cut down on those bills, and of course keep your house comfortable.
- 13:11All I gotta do this morning is pick up phone, give him a
- 13:13call. They'd love to chat with you. A six oz eight five three
- 13:15five forty three forty three. That's five three, five forty three forty three
