- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigal Land Always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land. Hey chicks, I'm sal and I'm
- 0:12Speaker 1: out and this is two broad chicks to show that
- 0:14Speaker 1: she has life lessons and tips help make you rich
- 0:16Speaker 1: in life.
- 0:17Speaker 2: And today we are joined by Anita Sakha, entrepreneur, the
- 0:21Speaker 2: brain behind the Instagram account sell Anything Online and co
- 0:25Speaker 2: founder of Hero Packaging.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Yes, thank you for having me, guys to pick your brain.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Oh my god, I'm so thrilled when I got your
- 0:34Speaker 3: message to say like, come on this podcast. I don't
- 0:36Speaker 3: think you understand like it was like a little.
- 0:38Speaker 1: You had the best response ever.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I was. I'm actually thrilled.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yay.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah, Well the feeling is mutual.
- 0:47Speaker 2: And before we jump into the episode, we like to
- 0:49Speaker 2: start with a life lesson of the week, and you
- 0:52Speaker 2: prepped us and said that yours.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, you've built it up. My life lesson of the
- 0:57Speaker 1: week is from one of my new top three shows
- 1:00Speaker 1: ever okay ever, oh favorite I have. It's it's slotted
- 1:04Speaker 1: itself in there and I actually have spoken about it
- 1:06Speaker 1: on the podcast before, but I wanted to give an
- 1:08Speaker 1: update because I've finished and it's Ted Lasso. Okay, Yes,
- 1:12Speaker 1: I have been putting off that last episode for weeks weeks.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It's coming back in season four, but it's like kind
- 1:18Speaker 1: of like a difference, like the end of that, but
- 1:20Speaker 1: it kind of is like the end of story Archer, right,
- 1:25Speaker 1: And anyway, this show is quite literally the most beautiful
- 1:29Speaker 1: show I've ever watched. I was sobbing, like in terms
- 1:35Speaker 1: of the part where you can't speak because I was
- 1:36Speaker 1: going to it's over now, Like I love it so
- 1:41Speaker 1: fucking much that I just want to rip out my
- 1:43Speaker 1: heart and give it to them and say thank you
- 1:45Speaker 1: for making this TV show. It's like everyone needs to
- 1:48Speaker 1: watch it. Everyone needs to watch it. I don't give
- 1:50Speaker 1: a fuck if you don't like soccer or football or whatever.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Like the messages in it, there's so many life lessons
- 1:56Speaker 1: in it.
- 1:57Speaker 4: There was a quote in it.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I hope that either all of us or none of
- 2:03Speaker 1: us are judged by the actions of our weakest moments,
- 2:06Speaker 1: but rather by the strength we show when and.
- 2:09Speaker 4: If we're ever given a second chance.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Oh that's beautiful.
- 2:12Speaker 5: I know agree with that's so right, And I think
- 2:16Speaker 5: it just kind of lodged something in my brain that,
- 2:20Speaker 5: especially this time of year, like frustrations can really build up.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Everyone's really tired. Maybe you're dealing with hard things with family,
- 2:28Speaker 1: maybe your relationship is struggling, or maybe someone's just really
- 2:31Speaker 1: pissed you off at work or whatever it is. Maybe
- 2:33Speaker 1: a friend's done you dirty, right, And absolutely it's so
- 2:37Speaker 1: important to like set boundaries and you know, protect yourself
- 2:40Speaker 1: and stuff. But it kind of put in my brain
- 2:43Speaker 1: to maybe have a little bit more grace to things
- 2:46Speaker 1: like that if they happen, and to be a little
- 2:48Speaker 1: bit more forgiving to frustrations, because being upset with someone
- 2:53Speaker 1: is never as fun and never as helpful as actually saying,
- 2:56Speaker 1: do you know what, I'm not going to let this
- 2:58Speaker 1: affect me, or maybe even forgiving, you know, And I
- 3:01Speaker 1: just I really want to cry, you know. It was
- 3:05Speaker 1: the best. It was, It's the best show. There's another
- 3:08Speaker 1: life lesson in it. One of the players like messes
- 3:10Speaker 1: something up and he's like beating himself up, and he
- 3:12Speaker 1: calls him over and he's like.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Sam, do you know why goldfish is the happiest animal
- 3:16Speaker 4: in the world?
- 3:17Speaker 1: And he goes way, and he goes because it's got
- 3:18Speaker 1: a ten second memory. And so it like whenever they
- 3:22Speaker 1: fuck up their like mentalities be a goldfish.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah. I love that you got to restart, just keep restarting.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, it's happy because it can't remember that.
- 3:31Speaker 4: I love that something happened bad and I'm like.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I'm wish I have a goldish ye goldfish yea.
- 3:37Speaker 4: So yeah, my I love that. Life lesson is to
- 3:40Speaker 4: watch Ted.
- 3:42Speaker 2: My life lesson of the Week is actually a post
- 3:45Speaker 2: I saw from the Conversation this week on Instagram and
- 3:49Speaker 2: they ranked the best ways to invest one thousand dollars
- 3:52Speaker 2: back in twenty ten, and I think it offers some
- 3:56Speaker 2: really good perspective, so I wanted to share. Starting with
- 3:59Speaker 2: number six, Savings account one thousand dollars from twenty ten
- 4:03Speaker 2: would be one thousand, four hundred and twenty eight dollars
- 4:06Speaker 2: when you account for inflation. Number five, the ASX two hundred,
- 4:12Speaker 2: one thousand dollars from twenty ten would now be worth
- 4:14Speaker 2: three thousand, four hundred and forty six.
- 4:16Speaker 3: My god, there's still four more to go.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's a two hundred and forty five percent
- 4:20Speaker 2: total return. Number four Gold one thousand dollars from twenty
- 4:25Speaker 2: ten would now be worth four thousand, two hundred.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And one dollars.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeah, So gold is often considered a safe haven, but
- 4:32Speaker 2: has sowed to record highs in recent months, which I
- 4:34Speaker 2: thought was interesting. Number three, the SMP five hundred, one
- 4:38Speaker 2: thousand dollars from twenty ten would now be worth ten thousand,
- 4:41Speaker 2: eight hundred and.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Fifty one dollars. Yep, amazing.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Okay.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Number two? What do you think number two and number
- 4:49Speaker 2: one could be? If you had to guess property?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Oh?
- 4:54Speaker 3: Oh, you can't invest one thousand dollars in property? Yeah?
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yeah, they potentially could have done that, but it's not
- 4:59Speaker 2: that I have no idea.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Okay, should I just jump in? Yeah?
- 5:04Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Number two the seven big US tech companies Google, Facebook, Amazon,
- 5:10Speaker 2: et cetera.
- 5:11Speaker 3: And I guess? Can I guess the number?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yep?
- 5:13Speaker 3: If you'd invest one thousand dollars twenty ten, So this
- 5:16Speaker 3: one's actually from twenty fifteen. Okay, I'm going to go
- 5:20Speaker 3: with eighteen thousand.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Do you have a guess?
- 5:25Speaker 1: Twenty four thousand, six hundred and twelve okay, So it
- 5:31Speaker 1: would be twenty six thousand and seventy four dollars, So
- 5:35Speaker 1: you were close.
- 5:36Speaker 2: They said we can't track an investment into all seven
- 5:39Speaker 2: of these companies back to twenty ten, but they did it.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Based on if you'd invest in twenty fifteen.
- 5:44Speaker 3: So that's ten years.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And then number one I think probably would be no
- 5:50Speaker 2: surprise when you hear it is bitcoin and one thousand
- 5:55Speaker 2: dollars from twenty ten would now be worth almost four hundred.
- 6:01Speaker 3: And sixty seven million dollars.
- 6:03Speaker 6: What.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yeah, theoretically you could have got an insane return on
- 6:06Speaker 2: a bitcoin investment, but since twenty ten crypto markets have
- 6:10Speaker 2: gone through multiple crashes, exchange collapses, and catastrophic coin failures.
- 6:13Speaker 2: So obviously it's dependent on what.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Coin you got.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, how crazy is that?
- 6:21Speaker 2: So I think it's just a good reminder to invest,
- 6:24Speaker 2: invest because obviously a thousand dollars is still a lot
- 6:27Speaker 2: of money. Yeah, but you know you could do that
- 6:30Speaker 2: with five dollars and you would still get something back.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Really hard tonight, Okay, Okay, So my life lesson of
- 6:40Speaker 3: the week is always have a story to tell. And
- 6:42Speaker 3: this is specifically for people who are like kind of
- 6:46Speaker 3: introverted or maybe don't like small talk. And so there's
- 6:49Speaker 3: this concept called misogi. Have you heard of masogi before? So, okay,
- 6:54Speaker 3: you know Sarah Blakeley who started spanks, so her husband
- 6:57Speaker 3: Jesse Itzler. He always harps on about this topic of
- 7:01Speaker 3: misogi and masogi is this one life altering thing that
- 7:05Speaker 3: you've got to do every single year, so you have
- 7:07Speaker 3: stories to tell for a year, right, one life changing,
- 7:11Speaker 3: one life altering thing that you do, and it just
- 7:15Speaker 3: makes you feel like you've got adventures coming up. Okay
- 7:18Speaker 3: who So I was thinking about this like last year,
- 7:22Speaker 3: and I thought one massogi is so intimidating, especially when
- 7:25Speaker 3: you're busy. So I thought, mini misogis, I'm going to
- 7:28Speaker 3: do mini masogis every week. I'm going to do one
- 7:31Speaker 3: thing that I would never have done before. And it
- 7:34Speaker 3: could be just something small, it could be learning something
- 7:36Speaker 3: new or whatever. So for example, a few weeks ago,
- 7:39Speaker 3: I watched a documentary on Vietnam, the Vietnam War, and
- 7:42Speaker 3: then like a couple of weeks ago, went to Melbourne
- 7:44Speaker 3: and danced for seven hours straight in R and B concert.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And then like the last week, I emailed three people
- 7:50Speaker 3: that I love to go for coffee, not to pick
- 7:52Speaker 3: their brain, just to go for coffee, and I'm like,
- 7:54Speaker 3: I will never do that again. I just wanted to
- 7:57Speaker 3: try it and it gives me something to talk about it. So,
- 8:00Speaker 3: like he gives you a story always. Yeah, like a
- 8:04Speaker 3: mini every week. Do something interesting so that you have
- 8:07Speaker 3: something to say when you're talking to people.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It reminds the word just it's got nothing to do
- 8:11Speaker 1: with It reminds me of the episode of Friends where
- 8:14Speaker 1: Ross is like nuggy.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I like that.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to be like, Okay, what's my meaning?
- 8:21Speaker 1: Miss Ogi?
- 8:21Speaker 3: You gotta you gotta have something interesting?
- 8:23Speaker 4: That is meeting Pitbull two weeks ago? Yeah, that's mine.
- 8:28Speaker 4: What do you mean we met Pitbull?
- 8:30Speaker 3: I think I'm going to meet people and people people.
- 8:33Speaker 4: I did see that mister worldwide?
- 8:35Speaker 3: Oh my god, worldwide.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I was like, we literally met him. We were like,
- 8:40Speaker 4: mister people, it's not us.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Yeah, he literally like we're not worthy like him. He
- 8:45Speaker 3: was such a good end.
- 8:46Speaker 1: He loved it.
- 8:47Speaker 2: He was like, exactly what ye crazy?
- 8:55Speaker 3: He talks with the rhythm.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, for sure, it's so good.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I guess the episode.
- 9:01Speaker 2: So, Anita, before we really get into it, tell us
- 9:04Speaker 2: a little bit about yourself, your experience in marketing, and
- 9:07Speaker 2: how you started sell anything online.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Okay, so I right now, I have a company called
- 9:14Speaker 3: Hero Packaging, and we sell like sustainable packaging to a
- 9:17Speaker 3: bunch of retailers that you guys know. So, like if
- 9:19Speaker 3: you get a package on your doorstep like six Saturday,
- 9:22Speaker 3: like out of ten times, it's a Hero packaging box
- 9:24Speaker 3: or a mailer or something. So that's something that I've
- 9:27Speaker 3: been running for seven years. But sell anything online is
- 9:30Speaker 3: like a completely different thing. And it's because I wrote
- 9:33Speaker 3: a book. I've written two business books. The first one
- 9:36Speaker 3: I wrote, it got published and it landed on my doorstep,
- 9:38Speaker 3: and I was like, holy shit, I don't know how
- 9:40Speaker 3: to sell this thing. I love it. I think I've
- 9:42Speaker 3: done a really good job. And I'm like, but I
- 9:44Speaker 3: don't have an audience, and I don't have I have
- 9:47Speaker 3: nothing like I've sold my other business. I don't have
- 9:49Speaker 3: any Instagram account. I don't have anything to sell this book.
- 9:52Speaker 3: And so I just started this random TikTok account and
- 9:55Speaker 3: I just called it the book name, which is sell
- 9:56Speaker 3: anything online. And I was just reading from the book
- 9:59Speaker 3: every day. I just read like a paragraph from the
- 10:02Speaker 3: book and I would say it to camera with a
- 10:04Speaker 3: little microphone. I'd be like, three tips to improve your website,
- 10:07Speaker 3: you know, la la la, And I did that three
- 10:08Speaker 3: or four times a day. I did that when my
- 10:09Speaker 3: kids were like sleeping. I did it when my kids
- 10:11Speaker 3: were next to me screaming. I was just like constantly
- 10:14Speaker 3: doing marketing tips to camera three times a day. And
- 10:17Speaker 3: then it was like fifty thousand followers, and then it
- 10:19Speaker 3: was like seventy five thousand followers, and then like the
- 10:22Speaker 3: next week it was one hundred thousand, two hundred thousand.
- 10:24Speaker 3: And then brand started to come to me and be like, hey,
- 10:27Speaker 3: can we pay you for content? I was like, what
- 10:28Speaker 3: do you mean? But yeah, yeah yeah, and they're like
- 10:31Speaker 3: how much. I was like one hundred dollars, Like you know,
- 10:34Speaker 3: you don't know what I do, literally, And so this
- 10:36Speaker 3: account started to build up people like I love marketing tips,
- 10:39Speaker 3: and people are like always wanting to start a business.
- 10:42Speaker 3: And so then I started to build up like this community.
- 10:45Speaker 3: And then I created an Instagram account and I didn't
- 10:47Speaker 3: do anything with it, but all these people started following
- 10:49Speaker 3: the Instagram account, and I was like, what the fuck
- 10:52Speaker 3: is going on?
- 10:53Speaker 1: I love this problem for you.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and so sell anything online, like the community was born,
- 11:00Speaker 3: and I didn't really want to sell anything, but that
- 11:03Speaker 3: sounds really weird when I call it sell anything. I'm like,
- 11:05Speaker 3: I didn't want to sell like marketing services. All I
- 11:08Speaker 3: wanted to was to like talk about how nerdy I
- 11:10Speaker 3: am and tell people like this is what you should
- 11:13Speaker 3: do in small business and this is how you should grow.
- 11:15Speaker 3: And then that was kind of what it is. And
- 11:17Speaker 3: it's been like four or five years, I've released a
- 11:20Speaker 3: second book. It feels so cool because the best thing
- 11:23Speaker 3: about it is I don't need to sell you anything.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I just have to talk about marketing content all the time.
- 11:29Speaker 3: And it feels like I can say what I want
- 11:31Speaker 3: and I'm like quite agnostic, so I can just say
- 11:33Speaker 3: what I want and people can listen to me or not.
- 11:35Speaker 3: You know. Yeah, it feels great.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so cool. And I feel like as well,
- 11:40Speaker 1: it's from just genuine knowledge as well, Like it's you're
- 11:44Speaker 1: not sitting there being like, okay, what can I put
- 11:45Speaker 1: You're like, I just want to post this.
- 11:47Speaker 3: This is my tip. This is my tip. And I've
- 11:49Speaker 3: experienced with hero packaging or every night, Like I love
- 11:51Speaker 3: reading annual reports, like not in a nerdy way.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Like you know, I love data.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I'm obsessed with data road releases.
- 11:59Speaker 3: It's he and L and you're like, oh my god,
- 12:01Speaker 3: this is my whole Friday.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Night series, you know, witch.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Yeah, tell me everything. And then they'll say certain things.
- 12:08Speaker 3: You're like, I think that's a lie, Like you can
- 12:10Speaker 3: pick up things.
- 12:12Speaker 4: It's just so interesting to me. God, we'll break that down. Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, But I want to get into Sale season is
- 12:20Speaker 1: upon us, which is basically the super Bowl of marketing. Right,
- 12:24Speaker 1: So what are some of the most common strategies that
- 12:26Speaker 1: are making us spend our money on Black Friday?
- 12:30Speaker 3: You know, brands, I don't think you need to try
- 12:31Speaker 3: really hard because what they do is they're like they'll
- 12:34Speaker 3: say I've got to salon and people are waiting like
- 12:37Speaker 3: they're ready. I don't know about you. I've got a
- 12:38Speaker 3: list of like the products that I'm waiting for and
- 12:41Speaker 3: the brands that I'm waiting for. I'm walking around the shops.
- 12:43Speaker 3: It was my birthday right two days ago. I'm like
- 12:45Speaker 3: walking around the shops going I love it, but I'm waiting.
- 12:48Speaker 3: I'm waiting for the sale. The minute it drops in
- 12:50Speaker 3: my inbox that there is like even a five percent
- 12:53Speaker 3: sale and I want that product, I'm buying it. Yeah,
- 12:55Speaker 3: and so brands at this time, if you have prepped,
- 12:59Speaker 3: you know your emails and your email database really well,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you can just drop a sale and you'll make money, right,
- 13:06Speaker 3: But I will say that there are certain things that
- 13:08Speaker 3: a brands are doing. One is like shutting off their websites.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Have you seen that. They shut down their website for
- 13:14Speaker 3: three days and then they'll like build up so much
- 13:17Speaker 3: hype to it and they'll go like it's coming, it's coming,
- 13:20Speaker 3: it's coming forty percent, and they'll tell you exactly what
- 13:22Speaker 3: they're doing, but they'll shut it all down and then
- 13:25Speaker 3: they'll like launch it like I have a big day.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So I think that's a really popular strategy. It's something
- 13:30Speaker 3: that I would never ever tell a small business to do, though,
- 13:34Speaker 3: because it ruins your website rankings and stuff. But it's
- 13:37Speaker 3: just such an interesting way to do it. Like for example,
- 13:39Speaker 3: Who's Elijah. Yeah, they do that really well. But they can.
- 13:43Speaker 3: They're like such a they're doing really well and they
- 13:46Speaker 3: have this amazing like strategy of shutting it down like
- 13:49Speaker 3: make you go, oh my god, I'm going to miss
- 13:50Speaker 3: out if I don't get it, and then I bought
- 13:52Speaker 3: yesterday because it launched. They got chat, they got me.
- 13:56Speaker 1: We're a well like scarcity tactics and like you know
- 14:01Speaker 1: tenn is available.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Or oh my god, so that limited like okay, it's
- 14:07Speaker 3: they're running out.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 3: That has existed since like the beginning of time, you know,
- 14:11Speaker 3: like the beginning of the bartering process, like left yeah. Yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 3: So I think that that is probably one of the
- 14:19Speaker 3: sneakiest but clever moves that brands should be doing. And
- 14:24Speaker 3: it's like, you know, we've got one hundred of these
- 14:27Speaker 3: left or thirty of these left, and you're going to
- 14:29Speaker 3: miss out like they're not coming back. I think that
- 14:31Speaker 3: is one of the best things that brands do. I
- 14:34Speaker 3: think though consumers are really smart until it comes to
- 14:37Speaker 3: these sorts of sales periods. They really truly believe that
- 14:41Speaker 3: brands when they say there's three left, there are three left.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Oh so there's not three left?
- 14:46Speaker 1: No no, no, no, So are you allowed to lie
- 14:48Speaker 1: about that?
- 14:49Speaker 3: Technically you can do what you want. You can have
- 14:51Speaker 3: one hundreds sitting in your warehouse and you can say
- 14:53Speaker 3: three left on the website and and you sell three right,
- 14:58Speaker 3: and then you stop it for a week, make it
- 15:00Speaker 3: everyone want it, and then release ninety seven or whatever.
- 15:03Speaker 3: And so I think that that's something that brands do.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Look in terms of legal I don't know, we're not
- 15:10Speaker 3: We're not lower we're interesting. But so many brands do
- 15:13Speaker 3: it that I assume that it's actually legally fine, but
- 15:17Speaker 3: I don't know. And so I know brands who do
- 15:20Speaker 3: that all the time and what they do, and this
- 15:22Speaker 3: is what I call the tempt and snatch approach, which
- 15:25Speaker 3: is like they tempt you because they say, hey, you
- 15:29Speaker 3: know Sofa dofha used this lipstick and then I've only
- 15:32Speaker 3: got three left, Like they tempt you with all this
- 15:35Speaker 3: like hype and like virality, and then they're like, but
- 15:38Speaker 3: we've only got two left, and so you better get
- 15:39Speaker 3: it now, and you're like, damn, I got to get
- 15:42Speaker 3: it right now. I'm missing out. And you go when
- 15:44Speaker 3: you buy it and you get it, and you're like,
- 15:46Speaker 3: what the fuck did I just do?
- 15:48Speaker 1: It's like, oh, it's sold out, but it didn't actually
- 15:51Speaker 1: sell out, yes, well.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Yes, And then it comes back a week later and
- 15:54Speaker 3: it's still on sale and you're.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Like, oh, that's what I think, because I was like,
- 15:58Speaker 1: how quick can you get stock that you've got it
- 16:00Speaker 1: a week later? Like it mustn't have really sold out
- 16:02Speaker 1: if you can restock within five businesses, I'll tell you
- 16:05Speaker 1: right now.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Like the secret of business launchers is to release only
- 16:09Speaker 3: a certain amount, you've got heaps more. It's just happens
- 16:12Speaker 3: every time.
- 16:13Speaker 2: When we were doing research for the episode, we saw
- 16:17Speaker 2: that the brain makes ninety five percent of its decisions subconsciously.
- 16:21Speaker 2: So what are some other sneaky marketing tactics that actually
- 16:25Speaker 2: work that we probably don't even notice?
- 16:28Speaker 3: Okay, there is one that is used by a lot
- 16:32Speaker 3: of Fragrance brands, and it's the decoy pricing trick. So
- 16:37Speaker 3: I don't know if you've seen, but like they sell
- 16:39Speaker 3: the mini version, then they'll sell like small, medium, large,
- 16:43Speaker 3: and extra large. What they want you to do is
- 16:45Speaker 3: buy the large one. Right, That's where they make the profit.
- 16:48Speaker 3: That's where they that's the anchor point that they want.
- 16:50Speaker 3: So what they'll do is the pricing difference between like
- 16:53Speaker 3: the mini and the small or the small in the
- 16:55Speaker 3: medium is quite large, but the difference between the medium
- 16:58Speaker 3: and the large price is very small. So instead of
- 17:01Speaker 3: just choosing the medium, they're like, oh, I can spend
- 17:03Speaker 3: sixteen dollars more and get the large. I'll just do that,
- 17:06Speaker 3: but that's the price they want you to pay. And
- 17:08Speaker 3: then the price difference between large and extra large is
- 17:11Speaker 3: so big, so the large seems like the most like
- 17:14Speaker 3: you're like, oh my god, yes, yes, so the whole
- 17:17Speaker 3: thing got me based around that price and it's called
- 17:20Speaker 3: the anchor price, and it's like that's the one that
- 17:22Speaker 3: they want you to get. That's so interesting.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Do you ever buy minis? Like in products?
- 17:29Speaker 3: I have to say I am obsessed with minis, but
- 17:33Speaker 3: then not sustainable at all. I was reading this thing
- 17:36Speaker 3: or I was listening to a podcast. Billions of them
- 17:38Speaker 3: are produced a year, like billions, and they can't be
- 17:41Speaker 3: like recycled and stuff, and so now I'm like, I
- 17:43Speaker 3: can never buy them again.
- 17:44Speaker 1: But I love men.
- 17:45Speaker 3: I love them. And do you know what the best
- 17:47Speaker 3: mini ever that came out was the what's her name?
- 17:51Speaker 3: The Bobby Brown Lady oh Beauty Joan's Road Beauty.
- 17:56Speaker 2: She watched her Joan's Road Beauty.
- 18:00Speaker 3: They have this miracle balm. Yes, and it's incredible. And
- 18:04Speaker 3: then what they did for Black Friday was rather than
- 18:06Speaker 3: go and say oh, they released a mini because everyone
- 18:08Speaker 3: was like buying them, you couldn't get them anywhere, they
- 18:10Speaker 3: released the mini version and it was the highest selling
- 18:13Speaker 3: Shopify product without a sale ever. So like it. No, yeah,
- 18:18Speaker 3: it's insane. So minis are a thing like if you
- 18:21Speaker 3: can do minis, well absolutely, yeah, I'm just not going
- 18:25Speaker 3: to buy them because as yeah, they're just not good
- 18:28Speaker 3: for the environment.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Gotcha.
- 18:30Speaker 1: We obviously it's too brochics. We love a shop. We
- 18:34Speaker 1: make the Black Friday.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Cheat sheet every year.
- 18:36Speaker 1: But what are some marketing strategies that the shoppers the
- 18:40Speaker 1: chicks can use to their advantage the chickies.
- 18:43Speaker 3: I think what you need to do is if you
- 18:44Speaker 3: have brands that you absolutely adore, you need to sign
- 18:48Speaker 3: up to the emails. The reason I say it is
- 18:51Speaker 3: because like, for example, do you know set to Active,
- 18:55Speaker 3: like the Active Way brand in America, it's like super
- 18:58Speaker 3: famous now. So if if you sign up to their
- 19:00Speaker 3: emails for example and Crown Affair they do this too,
- 19:03Speaker 3: you get a bigger discount than the general public. So
- 19:06Speaker 3: if you have brands that you really love, like I
- 19:08Speaker 3: don't say sign up to everyone, but if you have
- 19:11Speaker 3: brands that you adore, usually they give you a bigger discount,
- 19:14Speaker 3: more freebies, like more gifts, and then you get all
- 19:17Speaker 3: of that like early access or something. Yeah, they give
- 19:20Speaker 3: you something, and I think if you really adore that brand,
- 19:22Speaker 3: you should sign up. I would say another thing is
- 19:25Speaker 3: Black Friday. You should opt for the subscribe and save
- 19:29Speaker 3: rather than the single use one because they will give
- 19:32Speaker 3: you a lifelong subscribe and save for that Black Friday
- 19:35Speaker 3: as opposed to just buying the one product of something.
- 19:39Speaker 3: So that's like my little money.
- 19:40Speaker 1: That's a good tip. So like if you're buying pet food,
- 19:43Speaker 1: for example, and if they go on Black Friday, yeah,
- 19:45Speaker 1: and then you do the subscribe and say if you
- 19:47Speaker 1: lock in that Friday price, yes, And.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Then the last one I would say is going to
- 19:52Speaker 3: like the Meta ads library.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I love doing this. Yeah, I feel like
- 19:56Speaker 1: I'm a hacker. Then I have my favorite thing in
- 19:58Speaker 1: the main train. Yes, I love it. And you just
- 20:01Speaker 1: see what they've got on offer and it's like, oh,
- 20:03Speaker 1: that one's twenty percent off of that product. That one's yes,
- 20:07Speaker 1: And it's because your cookies are going to if you
- 20:09Speaker 1: like shop at a brand, also correct me if I'm wrong.
- 20:12Speaker 4: By the way, you know more about this than I do.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Then if you shop at a brand, let's say you
- 20:15Speaker 1: shop at like Princess POLLI like every week, you're probably
- 20:18Speaker 1: going to get the twenty percent off code because your
- 20:21Speaker 1: cookies have dropped and it's like no, she goes their
- 20:23Speaker 1: heaps whereas like if you don't shop there as much,
- 20:25Speaker 1: they'll probably serve the thirty percent off to get first
- 20:28Speaker 1: time the first time, Yes, to get you in correct?
- 20:31Speaker 3: Yeah yeah. How's a mainframe?
- 20:36Speaker 2: As a reminder to the chicks who don't remember that,
- 20:40Speaker 2: How can you access that?
- 20:41Speaker 3: How can you find that?
- 20:42Speaker 4: How can you find a brand's ad manager? To find disco.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Kids, you literally type into Google Meta Ads Library and
- 20:47Speaker 3: then you go in and it says, go show all categories.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Choose the country obviously Australia, and then type in the brand.
- 20:53Speaker 3: It'll give you a drop down, click the brand and
- 20:54Speaker 3: it'll show you all the ads they have running and
- 20:56Speaker 3: then you can see, you know, whatever discounts they've got
- 21:00Speaker 3: so so so sneaky.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Yeah, love it.
- 21:04Speaker 1: To get it through Instagram, you could find it in there,
- 21:06Speaker 1: like about this account?
- 21:07Speaker 3: Could you not do that anymore?
- 21:09Speaker 1: Bastards? But I've hacked it away. You can't stop the hacker.
- 21:15Speaker 1: It's like a failure.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Anything, and I'm like, let me have this seriously. Going
- 21:22Speaker 3: it does make you feel really sneaky for doing that,
- 21:25Speaker 3: thank you.
- 21:26Speaker 1: It's sometimes better than going because I swear half those
- 21:28Speaker 1: pages now that are like fifty percent like the promo
- 21:32Speaker 1: code pages.
- 21:32Speaker 4: And like half the shit never worked. Yeah, so yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 4: that's always a good way to go about it.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Yeah. What about freemium products? Are they ever worth it?
- 21:41Speaker 2: So, whether that's like a free gift with purchase or
- 21:45Speaker 2: Mecca Beauty Loop for example.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Oh my, it's so worth it. I reckon, it's so
- 21:50Speaker 3: worth it, Like the number of times I have bought
- 21:53Speaker 3: a product of a brand simply because the gift is
- 21:56Speaker 3: so good. So Naked Sundays do this really well, and
- 21:59Speaker 3: they give are always so bloody good. I don't need
- 22:02Speaker 3: another sunscreen, I'm telling you, Like I don't actually don't
- 22:05Speaker 3: need I wear sunscreen all the time, got so many
- 22:07Speaker 3: but their gifts are great and like also another brand
- 22:09Speaker 3: that does this well is like Good Pair Days the
- 22:11Speaker 3: wine they like give away these amazing skis, like I
- 22:16Speaker 3: want the eski and so then you end up buying
- 22:18Speaker 3: the wine and then I like, I like the wine,
- 22:21Speaker 3: so then I bloody now drink the wine.
- 22:24Speaker 6: You know.
- 22:24Speaker 3: But the freemium model is so good, and then the
- 22:27Speaker 3: Mecca one, like the Beauty Loop program is the most
- 22:30Speaker 3: successful in Australia, right, Like you can complain about it
- 22:33Speaker 3: all day long, but which.
- 22:35Speaker 1: We have is so successful, so successful.
- 22:38Speaker 3: That Maya has just announced that they are also a
- 22:42Speaker 3: new like similar beauty loop program. Yeah, and it's smart,
- 22:47Speaker 3: like that's how you get target a younger audience. So absolutely,
- 22:50Speaker 3: like I believe in freemium models, I think though, you
- 22:53Speaker 3: got to go smart about it. Yeah, you've got to
- 22:55Speaker 3: be super smart.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I do think sometimes and I do think it's important
- 22:59Speaker 1: to acknowledge it because with a lot of it, it's
- 23:00Speaker 1: like free gift. When you spend two hundred dollars, right
- 23:04Speaker 1: the one thing you wanted to buy was sixty dollars.
- 23:06Speaker 1: You can fall into the trap of spending one hundred
- 23:09Speaker 1: and forty dollars on something that you didn't want nor need.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Espressure on the want, like you didn't even really want it.
- 23:15Speaker 4: You're like, I've got to make.
- 23:16Speaker 3: This didn't even know it existed.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeaually that actually that free gift potentially costs twenty dollars.
- 23:21Speaker 3: You could have spent eighty dollars. Sorry, I was talking
- 23:24Speaker 3: about it. So from the business point one hundred, So
- 23:27Speaker 3: from a point of view, it's a really smart strategy
- 23:30Speaker 3: to get to the two hundred dollars. Exactly as a consumer,
- 23:33Speaker 3: I agree with you, Like Ay and ten percent because
- 23:37Speaker 3: I have done it so many times and then I've
- 23:39Speaker 3: gotten the freebee and then I don't use it. Also,
- 23:41Speaker 3: I don't place value on it because I didn't pay
- 23:42Speaker 3: for it, so it ends up becoming wasteful, So like,
- 23:45Speaker 3: why do it?
- 23:46Speaker 1: Okay?
- 23:46Speaker 3: I would love to know what is your.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Way to know as from a consumer perspective to tell
- 23:52Speaker 1: if a deal is genuinely good or just clever framing.
- 23:57Speaker 3: I will tell you one that is clever for framing.
- 24:01Speaker 3: I think most deals are good if the if the
- 24:03Speaker 3: price is cheaper than what they usually do, it is
- 24:05Speaker 3: a good deal, right, and if they don't go and
- 24:07Speaker 3: sale often like bonds is bloody forty percent off every
- 24:09Speaker 3: other day. But like mystery boxes, so when you see
- 24:12Speaker 3: mystery boxes, they are just clever marketing, and that's not
- 24:15Speaker 3: a good deal. They're really old stock. They want to
- 24:18Speaker 3: clear that stock. It's not moving, it might not be
- 24:20Speaker 3: good quality, like no one's buying it. People are returning it,
- 24:23Speaker 3: and that's what they're selling you in those mystery boxes.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Do you remember when Frank Green did mystery boxes and
- 24:27Speaker 1: everyone was unboxing them and getting pissed off because they
- 24:30Speaker 1: were really ugly. Yeah, they get like the Labarrine or
- 24:34Speaker 1: like the Lime fluro Green, and they're like, what the
- 24:36Speaker 1: fucking But other people are like, guys, it's a get
- 24:41Speaker 1: rid of shit. Yes, yeah, that's.
- 24:43Speaker 3: The thing, and I think a lot of us know that,
- 24:45Speaker 3: but then we fall into the truck. Yeah, there's three
- 24:49Speaker 3: hundred dollars worth in here for fifty dollars. You're like,
- 24:51Speaker 3: oh my god, that's amazing, and then you get it
- 24:53Speaker 3: and you're so disappointed every time. Like, there are a
- 24:56Speaker 3: lot of brands that do it, and maybe some of
- 24:58Speaker 3: them are good, but a lot of them it's just
- 25:00Speaker 3: clearing and they've got so much stock that they're holding
- 25:02Speaker 3: on too. They don't know how else to get rid
- 25:04Speaker 3: of it, and all the marketing gurus tell them to
- 25:06Speaker 3: do a mystery box. I just want everyone to know,
- 25:08Speaker 3: be careful. Yeah, that's what I would say.
- 25:11Speaker 4: That's really that's a really good one.
- 25:13Speaker 1: There sometimes brands that's a close Oh they do, yes,
- 25:16Speaker 1: no fucking.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Way you'd get me by a mystery box are close.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Maybe vintage, but still is sales stock that won't that's
- 25:23Speaker 1: not selling.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree. I think LSKD do it. I feel
- 25:27Speaker 3: like LSKD would do a good job of it. I've
- 25:29Speaker 3: never bought one of theirs.
- 25:30Speaker 1: But if they look at a website and you love
- 25:33Speaker 1: every single thing on it, there's not a single thing
- 25:36Speaker 1: that you dislike.
- 25:37Speaker 2: For any of the chicks who want to become a
- 25:39Speaker 2: smarter shopper, what's one thing they should start noticing, especially
- 25:43Speaker 2: this sales season?
- 25:44Speaker 3: Okay? Two things, okay. One is if a product from
- 25:49Speaker 3: a brand, or a collection of products from a brand,
- 25:51Speaker 3: they're the ones that are always on sale. You know,
- 25:53Speaker 3: there's like some products you're always like that product or
- 25:56Speaker 3: that collection is always like discounted. It's a shit product, right, Like, yeah,
- 26:01Speaker 3: it's like the shit It's like the mystery box there.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's something that you've always got to be concerned about. Again,
- 26:07Speaker 3: you go and go to metads library and check if
- 26:08Speaker 3: they're always running a sale on that product, there's something
- 26:11Speaker 3: wrong with it. Don't buy it that that's my opinion.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Another thing is like, if you want to be a
- 26:15Speaker 3: smart shopper, something that we all do and if you
- 26:18Speaker 3: tell me you don't do it, I'll be very angry
- 26:20Speaker 3: you because I do it and I feel really bad
- 26:22Speaker 3: about it. Is when I go to TikTok, I'm influenced
- 26:24Speaker 3: by everyone like a beauty product and then they'll say,
- 26:28Speaker 3: this is the best mascara of all time. I've got
- 26:30Speaker 3: a mascara that I love, but I have to go
- 26:32Speaker 3: and buy that mascara, Like it's so annoying. So if
- 26:36Speaker 3: you want to be a smart shopper, there is something
- 26:38Speaker 3: that's happening. And I've made a video on this before
- 26:41Speaker 3: where TikTok comments, like someone will say, like, give me
- 26:43Speaker 3: the best mascara, and in the comments it's always this
- 26:46Speaker 3: one product that keeps coming up over and over and
- 26:48Speaker 3: over again. Have you seen this where like someone will
- 26:51Speaker 3: literally just say, hey, guys, like I want a beauty hack,
- 26:53Speaker 3: give me your best beauty hack. And then the comments
- 26:56Speaker 3: is like thirty thousand comments. But all of a sudden,
- 26:58Speaker 3: you see like the same products come up. That is marketing, right.
- 27:02Speaker 3: They have paid bots or they've paid people to do that,
- 27:05Speaker 3: so ends up being like you think it's a genuine person,
- 27:08Speaker 3: it's actually marketing. And it's like, I mean everyone does it.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Celebrity brands do it, big brands do it, and like
- 27:15Speaker 3: it's like this thing that you can go onto the
- 27:17Speaker 3: guys and.
- 27:17Speaker 1: You see two broadticks is the best podcast and all
- 27:19Speaker 1: the TikTok comments that's actually real.
- 27:21Speaker 4: That's not a bot.
- 27:22Speaker 1: That's that's what.
- 27:26Speaker 3: I feel, so dooped it now and stupid?
- 27:30Speaker 1: Do you know? There's one essay lader all the time,
- 27:34Speaker 1: the Doubleware Foundation, and I see that in every single
- 27:38Speaker 1: comments thousands, and I'm like, I don't see anyone actually talking.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I know it was like a big product, a legacy
- 27:45Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, but I see it in
- 27:48Speaker 1: every single comments section thousand.
- 27:51Speaker 3: That's exactly how Johnny Depp won his case. She won
- 27:55Speaker 3: and then he won in America because they brought the
- 27:57Speaker 3: case over. But basically they use TikTok comments to make
- 28:00Speaker 3: him win the case because he had the public siding
- 28:02Speaker 3: with him. Brands are now doing it, like going into
- 28:04Speaker 3: the comments and now getting bots to do it for them.
- 28:07Speaker 4: I am losing faith in humanity the videos themselves.
- 28:10Speaker 3: People know not to trust, Like when an influencers like
- 28:13Speaker 3: I love this, yeah, but when the comments do it,
- 28:15Speaker 3: you're like, oh, well, a brand.
- 28:18Speaker 2: That popped into my head for this, and again this
- 28:20Speaker 2: is all which they're not even alleged.
- 28:23Speaker 3: These are just our guesses. Yes, let me and let
- 28:26Speaker 3: me sleep.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Yeah, said me. Completely changed my life.
- 28:31Speaker 3: But then when I see the actually reviews on the context, so.
- 28:35Speaker 1: You know where I go if I want to get
- 28:38Speaker 1: like a genuine, genuine review of something. Reddit, Yes, and
- 28:43Speaker 1: like Reddit.
- 28:43Speaker 6: Is a scary place to be sometimes there are some
- 28:46Speaker 6: personalities on Reddit, but like, yeah, Reddit, it reminds me
- 28:51Speaker 6: of that like south Park episode where everyone downloaded Yelp
- 28:54Speaker 6: and they also there were food critical.
- 28:56Speaker 3: It's very passionate.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Yeah, very passionate.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Like I'm not saying that I love read. I think
- 29:00Speaker 4: Reddit could be kind of.
- 29:01Speaker 3: But it's honest.
- 29:02Speaker 1: But you get really really honest reviews of things on there.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Maybe there's bots on there.
- 29:07Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Probably there will.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Be when they listen this podcast.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, I agree with that saying, oh my god,
- 29:14Speaker 1: So switching gears to chat side hustles for the check
- 29:18Speaker 1: because our chicks are very business minded. They all, a
- 29:22Speaker 1: lot of them have small businesses, a lot of them
- 29:24Speaker 1: want to start a small business. Love that or a
- 29:26Speaker 1: side hustle. So we're going to get into that. So, Okay,
- 29:29Speaker 1: if you're going to start your business from scratch in
- 29:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, what's the first three things you would
- 29:34Speaker 1: check off your checklist?
- 29:35Speaker 3: Okay, this is super easy. One is you have to
- 29:38Speaker 3: make sure there's demand for the product before you launch.
- 29:41Speaker 3: So don't quit any job, don't do anything unless you
- 29:43Speaker 3: can test demand. Figure out how you're going to test demand.
- 29:46Speaker 3: So whether that's just like making a landing page and
- 29:49Speaker 3: like running ads, or is it like building a community
- 29:52Speaker 3: and asking them to pay for even just one dollar
- 29:54Speaker 3: to see if they would dish out one dollar to
- 29:56Speaker 3: try this product. I think testing demand is a massive
- 30:00Speaker 3: thing because a lot of people are like, this product
- 30:02Speaker 3: is going to be amazing, and then they launch it
- 30:04Speaker 3: and they get three sales from their friends and family
- 30:06Speaker 3: and then they're like damn, maybe wasn't that good.
- 30:08Speaker 1: And they've ordered like ten thousand units of stuff and
- 30:11Speaker 1: they're like, well.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Because they believe in it, but they didn't bother to
- 30:13Speaker 3: ask people if they actually wanted it online. So that's
- 30:16Speaker 3: the first thing. Second thing I would say is like
- 30:18Speaker 3: do you have a way to get brand awareness? Like
- 30:20Speaker 3: do you have your own community? So for example, you
- 30:22Speaker 3: know how I asked you earlier like before this podcast,
- 30:26Speaker 3: are you going to start something? And you're like, yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 3: we're kind of thinking about it or something. I just
- 30:30Speaker 3: feel like you've got a community of people, so you
- 30:32Speaker 3: know that you've got brand awareness. No matter what you do,
- 30:35Speaker 3: you're safe. Right If you are starting a business and
- 30:37Speaker 3: you don't have an audience or a community, what are
- 30:40Speaker 3: your ways of getting brand awareness? Are you going to
- 30:42Speaker 3: use influencers? Are you going to use ads? Really understand
- 30:45Speaker 3: how you're going to get the word out? That's so important.
- 30:48Speaker 3: And then the third thing I would say is once
- 30:50Speaker 3: you have customers, and once you've realized how are you
- 30:53Speaker 3: going to get them? How are you going to make
- 30:55Speaker 3: them come back over and over and over again? They're
- 30:58Speaker 3: like your biggest bloe fans, like what is your experience factor? Say,
- 31:03Speaker 3: for example, you sold me like a matchbox, okay, and
- 31:06Speaker 3: you're like this matchbox is five dollars and I pay
- 31:08Speaker 3: five dollars for it, and I get the matchbox in
- 31:09Speaker 3: my mail. I'll be like, oh, meets expectations. Like that's fine,
- 31:13Speaker 3: but what are you going to do to like exceed
- 31:15Speaker 3: my expectations? What are you going to make me do
- 31:17Speaker 3: to go like I want to buy that match box
- 31:20Speaker 3: over it over again? Like how can I be part
- 31:22Speaker 3: of their community? Like I don't want to miss out
- 31:24Speaker 3: on the next matchbox. You've got to think about those
- 31:26Speaker 3: three things like demand awareness, and then how do you
- 31:28Speaker 3: make them part of your like raving fan base.
- 31:31Speaker 4: What brands have the best community in your opinion?
- 31:34Speaker 3: I think the Breakout Hack They're amazing. I love rach
- 31:37Speaker 3: Like I'm obsessed with her. She knows it obviously. Britney
- 31:40Speaker 3: Saunders does a great job. Brittany has this thing about
- 31:43Speaker 3: her though, that a lot of people can't do, which
- 31:45Speaker 3: is build a parasocial relationship. People literally think they're her
- 31:48Speaker 3: best friend, and so they can't get to her. So
- 31:50Speaker 3: you know what they do because they know reference, they'll
- 31:53Speaker 3: message me and be like, hey, can you tell Brittany
- 31:56Speaker 3: I saw something that I think she'll like. I'm like, no,
- 31:58Speaker 3: because I'm not your pa. I'm also not her pa,
- 32:02Speaker 3: so they they genuinely believe. I don't know how she
- 32:05Speaker 3: does it, but she makes them feel like they're all
- 32:08Speaker 3: her friends.
- 32:09Speaker 4: She's so genuine.
- 32:10Speaker 3: I think it's such as so personal, but it's really
- 32:13Speaker 3: hard to do, Like it's really hard, like you could
- 32:16Speaker 3: be really relatable and really cool like that, but she's
- 32:19Speaker 3: got this magic about yeah, you.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Know, and the Launders magic.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't put your finger on it. So a
- 32:25Speaker 3: third one, you tell me a brand. Let me think
- 32:27Speaker 3: about it.
- 32:28Speaker 1: With Mecca bleed, pink right or die?
- 32:32Speaker 4: Okay, people that like love Mecca and they met.
- 32:35Speaker 3: In before are like, they go back to Mecca over
- 32:38Speaker 3: and over again. Yeah. I think a really big community,
- 32:40Speaker 3: I would say on a bigger scale is LSKD.
- 32:43Speaker 1: They probably got the best community I've.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Probably ever seen in my life. So to have three
- 32:47Speaker 3: thousand people stand outside a store opening blows my mind.
- 32:52Speaker 3: I mean to have that. And the reason they did
- 32:54Speaker 3: that was because they didn't just target everyone. They really
- 32:56Speaker 3: niche down to obsession like who they're going to target?
- 33:00Speaker 3: And I love that. And I think if I was
- 33:01Speaker 3: going to start a brand, I would start it in
- 33:03Speaker 3: something that's like super bloody niche down. Like you know
- 33:06Speaker 3: how we were talking about fantasy books. I would do
- 33:09Speaker 3: something for the fantasy book lovers who are male age
- 33:13Speaker 3: between thirty five and fifty five, Like I.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Would go say, so deep, I'm kidding.
- 33:18Speaker 2: No one else is talking today, but they are out.
- 33:21Speaker 1: There and want to be hurt and they want to
- 33:22Speaker 1: be heard. Yes, what about tools? What are some tools
- 33:27Speaker 1: or apps or things that every small business owner should
- 33:31Speaker 1: have in their toolkit?
- 33:33Speaker 3: Well, you're gonna hate me. The first one I'm going
- 33:34Speaker 3: to say is chatchipt but not for the way that
- 33:37Speaker 3: you think. I use it for images, So I use
- 33:40Speaker 3: it every day, probably like twenty times a day for
- 33:43Speaker 3: generating images for my website images and then also for
- 33:49Speaker 3: meta ads. That way, I don't actually have to get
- 33:52Speaker 3: like an agency. I don't have to get a photographer
- 33:54Speaker 3: nothing like. It generates stuff for me, and then I'll
- 33:56Speaker 3: take it into either Canbo like Photoshop and like change
- 33:59Speaker 3: it up the way I like it. I would say chatchibuti.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Another really good tool is Miller Note.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Have you tried Miller Note before? It's like a oh
- 34:07Speaker 3: my god, you guys will love it. It's like a
- 34:09Speaker 3: visual way where you can plan like a mood board,
- 34:12Speaker 3: but you can have to do lists and tag people
- 34:15Speaker 3: in it and then have like think tasks for people
- 34:17Speaker 3: to do add dates and times. But it's so visually appealing,
- 34:21Speaker 3: like you'll have a beautiful like images in there and
- 34:23Speaker 3: like almost like a Pinterest board in there, but then
- 34:25Speaker 3: a to do list and everything. It's really like a
- 34:29Speaker 3: really lovely way to look at your day or like
- 34:31Speaker 3: look at your schedule and go, this is what I
- 34:33Speaker 3: need to get done, and then you can add people
- 34:35Speaker 3: to it. So like, on a secret note, I'm starting
- 34:38Speaker 3: like another business and we've got five co founders and
- 34:41Speaker 3: all of us are in Miller note and adding images
- 34:43Speaker 3: every day, and like we just feel inspired. But we've
- 34:45Speaker 3: got tasks in there and it's a supplement's business. But
- 34:49Speaker 3: that's it. Like no more, can't say a thing, but
- 34:52Speaker 3: it's just exciting because it's like, you know, it's the
- 34:54Speaker 3: first time I actually get to do something really cool
- 34:56Speaker 3: like this because I own a packaging company, which.
- 34:59Speaker 2: I'm obsessed with your package, but we don't have Miller packaging.
- 35:03Speaker 3: That's for sure. It's like a sexy version of notion
- 35:08Speaker 3: it is. It's exactly like that.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Oh actually, though, what are your marketing X? What are
- 35:12Speaker 1: like X that you would tell Usmall business owners do
- 35:16Speaker 1: not do this?
- 35:17Speaker 3: Okay, Well, first of all, don't cry to make more sales,
- 35:20Speaker 3: I would say on TikTok and Instagram. I've seen it
- 35:23Speaker 3: a lot like crying to make more sales. You know
- 35:25Speaker 3: why because if you can't make sales without it, the
- 35:28Speaker 3: product needs to be examined. So my thing is like,
- 35:32Speaker 3: please don't cry on camera simply for the purposes.
- 35:35Speaker 4: Of selling your people into buying your product.
- 35:38Speaker 3: It's not a sustainable marketing touch.
- 35:41Speaker 2: You can't cry wolf multiple times to sell out a product.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Well, this is going to my next point, which is
- 35:47Speaker 3: have you seen and let's not name names because yeah,
- 35:50Speaker 3: but it's been done a few times where it's like
- 35:53Speaker 3: this influencer stole from me or whatever it is, and
- 35:57Speaker 3: like people don't know whether it's a lie the truth,
- 35:58Speaker 3: and then it's backfired on them. So it actually very
- 36:01Speaker 3: well could be the truth, Like an influencer could have
- 36:03Speaker 3: actually done that to them, but they haven't handled it correctly,
- 36:07Speaker 3: and so what ends up happening is you've done this
- 36:08Speaker 3: for virality almost and you've told your audience and then
- 36:11Speaker 3: they've gone and spread hate to these influencers. You haven't backtracked,
- 36:14Speaker 3: and then now everyone's hating on you. Yeah. The marketing
- 36:17Speaker 3: ick there is just like try not to tell stories
- 36:23Speaker 3: just for virality purposes, because when you do that, like
- 36:27Speaker 3: you said, it's not sustainable and it's like not a
- 36:30Speaker 3: great marketing strateg and it could backfire on you and
- 36:32Speaker 3: look really bad on you. So that's something that.
- 36:35Speaker 1: I would never do. Thank you so much for your
- 36:37Speaker 1: time today. You are literally just a little ball of information.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I could pick your Marria beacon of wellth ours where
- 36:44Speaker 1: can that you expind you if they want to learn more?
- 36:46Speaker 3: Okay, you can go to sell anything online on TikTok,
- 36:50Speaker 3: on Instagram, you can email me. And it's something I
- 36:54Speaker 3: will say for everyone listening. If you're in business, even
- 36:56Speaker 3: if you're not in business, if you want to start
- 36:58Speaker 3: a business, My dms are literally always open, and it's
- 37:02Speaker 3: a real struggle sometimes to be in business. It's really
- 37:04Speaker 3: hard and sometimes you feel like you're super alone. I
- 37:07Speaker 3: will always try and help you, like with anything that
- 37:10Speaker 3: you need.
- 37:10Speaker 4: What's the most expensive mistake you've made in business?
- 37:13Speaker 3: Oh jeez, I'm not knowing my numbers and like the
- 37:16Speaker 3: profit and loss, I just didn't look at it properly
- 37:18Speaker 3: and we almost went into voluntary administration. So that would
- 37:21Speaker 3: be a big mistake in numbers. Yeah, I know your numbers,
- 37:24Speaker 3: and it was a really basic thing. But we got
- 37:27Speaker 3: ourselves into so much debt and like I just was like, oh,
- 37:29Speaker 3: I'm a CEO, I'm so cool, Like we're making so
- 37:31Speaker 3: much revenue, but actually the cash in the bank account
- 37:34Speaker 3: wasn't there, and so when I started to like I
- 37:37Speaker 3: had to pull out of my mortgage to pay back
- 37:40Speaker 3: the business just to get us to ground zero again.
- 37:42Speaker 3: It was an awful time. Like I'm laughing about it now,
- 37:45Speaker 3: it was actually real shit. And then we've had to
- 37:48Speaker 3: like redo the business in the last three years. So
- 37:52Speaker 3: please like just look at your profit and loss and
- 37:54Speaker 3: be like, is there cash? Is their money there? If
- 37:56Speaker 3: you're in the green, you're doing a good job.
- 37:58Speaker 4: Amazing. Thank you so much, actually, smart cookie.
- 38:02Speaker 2: We'll put links to everything in the show notes, including
- 38:04Speaker 2: a link to the book as well.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Thank you guys, Thank you to you chick staving us
- 38:08Speaker 1: in your ear holes. We love to be here. Bye
- 38:11Speaker 1: Taky Bye,
