- 0:00Speaker 1: The following is a world-famous Phil Hendry Show encore presentation.
- 0:04Speaker 1: And now it's Catscape with Shadow, Smokey, and Thunder. Catscape,
- 0:10Speaker 1: talking to you from the world of cats.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's new? What's innovative? New toys, new balls of fluff,
- 0:17Speaker 2: things to chase. Yes, Catscape. Here now is your host, Shadow. Okay,
- 0:23Speaker 2: thanks a lot. That's a very, listen to that music, huh?
- 0:26Speaker 3: That's hilarious, Larry. My dad said scenario.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Your dad, huh? You mean Mr.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Henry?
- 0:31Speaker 2: You're welcome. I'd rather you call him Mr. Henry than dad, because... He.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Looks like a trans-species.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds very trans-species, you know? All right, let's
- 0:42Speaker 1: not get weird. Anyway, here, welcome to Catscape.
- 0:45Speaker 2: This is Shadow.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Shadow?
- 0:46Speaker 2: I'm a Burmese. A lot of people say, what do
- 0:47Speaker 2: you look like? I'm a Burmese, okay? I'm black. I
- 0:49Speaker 2: got the yellow eyes. Smokey over here, what do you
- 0:51Speaker 2: call yourself, Smokey? I'm like more calico. And Thunder, you're like,
- 0:56Speaker 2: what are you?
- 0:56Speaker 3: I'm a black and white furry or Maine Coon or
- 1:00Speaker 3: a snowshoe.
- 1:01Speaker 2: What's wrong with your throat?
- 1:02Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I got that all night going, you know.
- 1:06Speaker 2: You were doing that?
- 1:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 2: What about it? Well, I mean, come on, kid. It's
- 1:10Speaker 2: going to keep people getting hit with a shoe or something.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Why are you doing that?
- 1:14Speaker 3: Try trying it out. My dad gets upset.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Your dad gets upset? I would too, man. Anyway, welcome
- 1:19Speaker 2: here to Catscapes. This is, as I said, Shadow. And
- 1:23Speaker 2: you're a Maine Coon, and you're a what? I'm a Calico.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I don't know what they call that. You look like
- 1:28Speaker 2: a regular alley cat to me.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I take that as a compliment.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Great.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And I'm a Burmese cat, which doesn't mean anything, but
- 1:35Speaker 1: that's what I am. That's what I was born. I
- 1:36Speaker 1: wasn't born in Burma, I'll tell you that.
- 1:39Speaker 2: That's a good one. Yeah. Anyway, today we have on Catscape,
- 1:42Speaker 2: we're going to have our hero cat of the week,
- 1:43Speaker 2: as we always do, or hero cat of the month,
- 1:45Speaker 2: or however the hell we do it.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And we're also going to have, you know, how dumb
- 1:49Speaker 1: are dogs? You know, very, very popular feature here on Catscape.
- 1:54Speaker 1: First of all, I want to just mention that our feature,
- 1:57Speaker 1: which is the hero cat of the month, week, whatever
- 2:00Speaker 1: the hell, you can submit your name. You don't have
- 2:03Speaker 1: to have no human do it. You can submit it yourself.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're a cat, you know that you did
- 2:08Speaker 3: a good thing.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:09Speaker 2: If you're a cat, you know you did a good thing. Well,
- 2:11Speaker 2: what do you mean? Who's going to go say, yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 2: you know what I did? I chased a ball of
- 2:16Speaker 2: string like a block.
- 2:18Speaker 6: What?
- 2:19Speaker 2: That's not a big heroic thing. Talking about saving, the
- 2:21Speaker 2: only thing that counts with humans is if you save
- 2:23Speaker 2: their rear ends.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Oh, that's true, yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 3: You're going to be able to save them.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So we got to that end. We got a beautiful
- 2:30Speaker 1: one today. And this is a cat named Baby. The
- 2:33Speaker 1: cat we're going to be talking to today, get a
- 2:36Speaker 1: load of this, is 23. What are you talking about, 23?
- 2:40Speaker 2: That's right. Now, the world record for the age of
- 2:43Speaker 2: an old cat, I looked this up, the oldest cat
- 2:46Speaker 2: ever recorded, I think it's like pushing 40. Get out
- 2:49Speaker 2: of here, man.
- 2:50Speaker 3: You're high on a mixture of chemical.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I'm high on a mixture of... Get a load of
- 2:54Speaker 2: the kid here. Will you hear that, kid? Get a
- 2:57Speaker 2: load of this kid. What, are you dealing drugs?
- 2:58Speaker 3: What are you going to talk about?
- 3:00Speaker 2: 40.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That's what it said in the thing that I looked
- 3:02Speaker 1: up when I was... Nobody was looking. I got up
- 3:04Speaker 1: on my computer and I went.
- 3:07Speaker 4: You know?
- 3:07Speaker 2: Tapped it out, huh? Yeah, with my paws.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And I found out 40. Well, this cat we're going
- 3:11Speaker 1: to talk to today is a cat named Baby. And
- 3:14Speaker 1: so what we're going to do is get this baby
- 3:15Speaker 1: up on the line. Baby is in, what city is Baby?
- 3:18Speaker 4: Chicago.
- 3:19Speaker 2: And Baby, the first thing I saw when I read
- 3:22Speaker 2: this story, if I may call you Baby. Baby?
- 3:27Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 2: How are you? Well, we're good. And I understand you
- 3:32Speaker 2: was taking a nap, huh? Yeah, I laid down about
- 3:35Speaker 2: this time. But you had a question for me? You're
- 3:40Speaker 2: in the Chicago area? Yeah, Chicago. Hey, baby, my name
- 3:44Speaker 2: is Smokey. It's a great pleasure to meet you.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm Thunder.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Oh, okay. So I'm talking to cats on the podcast?
- 3:55Speaker 2: That's right. This is Catscapes.
- 3:57Speaker 4: And.
- 3:58Speaker 2: What's it called? It's called Catscapes. It's a show we do. Oh, Catscapes. Okay.
- 4:04Speaker 2: And you remember me calling you yesterday? No, I don't
- 4:07Speaker 2: have any memory of any of it, you know. But
- 4:10Speaker 2: I do remember the event. Now, baby, you were a cat.
- 4:16Speaker 2: You were 13 years old already when this whole house
- 4:18Speaker 2: fire took place there in the home of, what's the
- 4:20Speaker 2: guy's name again?
- 4:21Speaker 4: Joel?
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it was shared. Joel Ornberg was the guy's name.
- 4:27Speaker 3: That's the guy's name.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Right. What happened to your throat? Were you out on
- 4:33Speaker 2: the fence going, yeah? Yeah, I've done. So what? We're
- 4:41Speaker 2: talking about when you saved the family. Oh, yeah, yeah. Well,
- 4:44Speaker 2: I was at Wonder Lake is where they lived, and
- 4:47Speaker 2: I was their cat, and you know how that goes. Oh, Letitia,
- 4:50Speaker 2: she was wonderful. Yeah, Letitia Kowalowski and Jewel Ornberg. Right, right, okay.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And all of a sudden, you know, I can smell smoke,
- 5:00Speaker 2: and there's a fire in a bedroom. And Orenberg, you know,
- 5:07Speaker 2: this guy, a human, he gets up. He tries to
- 5:09Speaker 2: hit it with an extinguisher. I'm like going, you know, yeah, yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 2: When a cat, you know, I'm jumping up and down
- 5:15Speaker 2: and everything. And they finally got the kid, and they
- 5:18Speaker 2: got out of there, you know. And she was, I think,
- 5:21Speaker 2: pregnant at the time. So what did you do? Did
- 5:24Speaker 2: you jump on their head or something? Well, when you're
- 5:26Speaker 2: a cat, you know, you don't bark. So the thing
- 5:28Speaker 2: you do as a cat, and I've been in a
- 5:30Speaker 2: situation a number of times when a human's about to
- 5:34Speaker 2: die and you're a cat. And what do you do?
- 5:37Speaker 2: So I'll leap on their face and stay there until
- 5:40Speaker 2: they go, yeah, you know. Yeah, that sounds like a
- 5:43Speaker 2: good deal. It's like it's a face grip.
- 5:45Speaker 3: You don't have to do that because they don't have
- 5:46Speaker 3: no bark.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no bark.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It's pretty much what I just got done saying. Oh,
- 5:52Speaker 2: I'm sorry. You understand we're sort of in awe. Okay, well,
- 5:56Speaker 2: but anyway, so I grabbed his face. I wrapped the
- 5:59Speaker 2: lower legs around the lower part of the head, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: I just grabbed it, you know, and he's like, God,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I can't breathe. And suddenly, oh, my God, there's a fire.
- 6:09Speaker 2: And I got off him. I said, you got that right, squirt.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Was he some kind of a short guy? I don't remember.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 6:17Speaker 2: The kid, they had a baby. I think they grabbed
- 6:19Speaker 2: the kid and they got the hell out, you know.
- 6:22Speaker 2: But everything was burned to a crisp. And this was
- 6:25Speaker 2: in Chicago night, 2010? Yeah, it's about 2010.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Oh, gosh, long time ago.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I'm going to ask you later on what you attribute
- 6:34Speaker 2: your longevity to. Not getting burned in that fire.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Hey, I'm talking to a guy over here.
- 6:42Speaker 2: No, that's a great point. Very, very great point. Yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 2: but you're not going to get burned up. No, I
- 6:47Speaker 2: didn't get burned. How do I treat it? The first
- 6:50Speaker 2: thing you don't want to do is get run over
- 6:52Speaker 2: by a car. I find, let me just tell you,
- 6:55Speaker 2: young cat, something. I find that if you can not
- 6:58Speaker 2: get run over by a car, Jack, you're aces, you know.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Gives you that much more of a chance, huh? Yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 2: gives you that much. Did you read, by the way,
- 7:08Speaker 2: I just read Chris Cuomo tested positive for Corona.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Who's that?
- 7:13Speaker 2: Chris Cuomo to CNN? Yeah, I just read that here.
- 7:17Speaker 2: But anyway, I split. I got too weirded out by everything. Yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 2: we've seen the article where you left. Yeah, I did.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I said, I've got to get out of here. These
- 7:27Speaker 2: people are too, they're a little too loose. You know,
- 7:30Speaker 2: they're too, they're very loose and wild in their ways.
- 7:33Speaker 2: But they set a trap for me. They put some
- 7:35Speaker 2: of my favorite pate. I enjoy very deeply the liver
- 7:39Speaker 2: and the chickens and so forth. And they set a trap,
- 7:43Speaker 2: and they caught me in the trap. Actually, Orenberg's employer
- 7:47Speaker 2: was in that neighborhood. Where did you go? You left
- 7:51Speaker 2: the house, huh? Yeah, I left Wonder Lake, and I
- 7:53Speaker 2: wandered out near Wonder Lake. I left Wonder Lake, the neighborhood,
- 7:57Speaker 2: and I went to the lake and just sat and
- 7:59Speaker 2: looked at it and thought, do I really want.
- 8:01Speaker 4: To go back there?
- 8:03Speaker 2: What were you going to do? I don't know. I'd
- 8:05Speaker 2: probably get caught by animal rescue. I was 13, but
- 8:07Speaker 2: it turned out that they caught me. And they brought
- 8:15Speaker 2: me back to Mr. Ornberg, and he was telling the
- 8:19Speaker 2: Chicago Tribune that, you know, he was happy that I
- 8:24Speaker 2: was back. So I began to get a little bit
- 8:26Speaker 2: more appreciation around there. That's a very good point, you know,
- 8:29Speaker 2: because we talk a lot on the show here about
- 8:31Speaker 2: how cats, you know, people have the crap all over us,
- 8:34Speaker 2: you know. Yeah, but you know something, we're not, humans
- 8:39Speaker 2: want to have their you-know-what, you know. Don't say it. Yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 2: we know what you're talking about. Right. Humans aren't happy
- 8:47Speaker 2: with a pet unless you're kissing it morning, noon, and night,
- 8:51Speaker 2: twice on Sunday, with a little extra, you know, a
- 8:56Speaker 2: little extra lipstick. So I felt that, you know, it
- 9:00Speaker 2: was incumbent upon me to just take the high road
- 9:06Speaker 2: and get the hell out while the getting was good. And, uh,
- 9:09Speaker 2: You didn't know where you were going. You probably just
- 9:11Speaker 2: wound up at an animal rescue or something? You know,
- 9:13Speaker 2: this was too boring. As I said, it was like...
- 9:16Speaker 2: But when they caught me and they brought me back
- 9:19Speaker 2: to the house, well, then, you know, all was well.
- 9:22Speaker 2: All's well that ends well, you know. And that's how
- 9:25Speaker 2: that went. Talking here with Baby, who is 23.
- 9:28Speaker 1: We're talking about something that happened to Baby 10 years
- 9:31Speaker 1: ago when you saved a family at a family fire. Yeah, it's... Okay, see,
- 9:37Speaker 1: you say that the way you wake up, there's a
- 9:38Speaker 1: lot of, get a lot of calls from listeners who say, hey,
- 9:42Speaker 1: how do you wake a human, if you're a cat,
- 9:44Speaker 1: how do you wake the humans up? You grip the
- 9:46Speaker 1: guy's face.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Well, you know, what about the other people? Well, all
- 9:49Speaker 2: you got to do is wake up one of them,
- 9:50Speaker 2: you know, and Ornberg is a sound sleeper, I remember him.
- 9:55Speaker 2: So I said, Jesus H I looked I could smell
- 9:57Speaker 2: fire I saw the crackling of the flames behind the
- 10:00Speaker 2: door and everybody else was sawing logs you know and
- 10:03Speaker 2: I'm thinking you know what's going to happen I'm going
- 10:05Speaker 2: to get blamed for this if oh yeah that's yeah
- 10:09Speaker 2: yeah you know how they play things yeah pretty much
- 10:13Speaker 2: yeah alright so I'm going to get blamed so I
- 10:16Speaker 2: said I'm going to have to wake this sucker up
- 10:19Speaker 2: And I remember hopping up and down, and I'm saying,
- 10:23Speaker 2: come on, sucker, don't be a sucker. And finally I
- 10:26Speaker 2: went ahead and did the face grip with my, I'll
- 10:29Speaker 2: say it, you know, I had my anus right over
- 10:32Speaker 2: his nose. Hey, that's what you got to do, you know.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Got to do what you got to do. You got
- 10:36Speaker 2: to do what you got to do. No doubt about that. Right, so,
- 10:40Speaker 2: and that's when he went, yeah, or whatever he said,
- 10:42Speaker 2: I forget, and he leapt out of bed, and he
- 10:44Speaker 2: was about ready to take me and throw me into
- 10:47Speaker 2: Wonder Lake. It's a wonder I didn't get thrown into
- 10:51Speaker 2: Wonder Lake.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I bet you've done a lot of them jokes down
- 10:53Speaker 1: to the years, huh?
- 10:55Speaker 2: I didn't mean nothing by that. Okay. Anyway, genius gets up,
- 11:00Speaker 2: puts the fire out. The lady, she grabs the baby,
- 11:03Speaker 2: all kinds of cribs and crap. And I'm running out
- 11:06Speaker 2: behind them, you know, and I'm like a second thought. Well,
- 11:10Speaker 2: that's the way it is, though, right? Yeah, you know.
- 11:11Speaker 2: That's always going to be the way it is for
- 11:13Speaker 2: a cat. You know, we never get no appreciation of nothing.
- 11:16Speaker 2: All right, well, ease back a little bit. You know,
- 11:18Speaker 2: these are human beings, after all. They like a pet.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Like I said, they like a pet that'll just go.
- 11:24Speaker 2: On that... Jesus Christ.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Well, that's kind of dirty what you're going to say.
- 11:29Speaker 2: But you know what I mean. So I split, and
- 11:31Speaker 2: they trapped me. They set a trap and trapped me.
- 11:36Speaker 2: How did they trap you? You were over at his
- 11:38Speaker 2: employer's neighborhood. Yeah, I wandered over there. And the next
- 11:41Speaker 2: thing you know, I'm back here with the Ornbergs, and
- 11:44Speaker 2: they've got all my favorite pâtés and flaked meats and gravy.
- 11:49Speaker 2: So life really improved a lot. How about that? So
- 11:52Speaker 2: you've got to save a human's life. You're a cat.
- 11:55Speaker 2: No less than saving a human. No less, yeah. Save
- 11:59Speaker 2: a human, save your ass.
- 12:01Speaker 4: That's what I said.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I heard that. Yeah. I heard that one, baby. So, um,
- 12:07Speaker 2: you're 23? Well, you never ask a lady her age,
- 12:10Speaker 2: but yes, I am. Well, we're very happy and proud
- 12:13Speaker 2: to have been, for you to, for me to have been,
- 12:17Speaker 2: God damn. Just slow down. You're nervous. For you to
- 12:20Speaker 2: have been here on Catscapes, there's people who want to
- 12:22Speaker 2: talk to you, um, and, you know. Wait, what do
- 12:25Speaker 2: you mean they want to talk to me? We got
- 12:26Speaker 2: people to call a show, you know. We got some
- 12:28Speaker 2: cats calling a show.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, sure.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Okay, let's go. This is Max. He's in Denver, Colorado. Max, hey,
- 12:35Speaker 2: you're on the line here now with a baby who
- 12:39Speaker 2: is the big hero from 2010 saving that family. Max,
- 12:42Speaker 2: go ahead.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Is this baby?
- 12:44Speaker 5: Yeah, Max.
- 12:45Speaker 2: How are you?
- 12:46Speaker 6: I've read about you the first time I read about you.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Come here.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Hoover.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Hey, Snowball, come here.
- 12:52Speaker 6: I got my brother and sister. The first time I
- 12:54Speaker 6: read about you when you saved that family, when you
- 12:57Speaker 6: did the face grip, they put that in the Tribune?
- 13:00Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you know, I had called, and, uh, not called,
- 13:04Speaker 2: they called me, and I described... That was the move.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I told my kid sister about that.
- 13:12Speaker 2: It was quite a move, you know. All right, Max, hey,
- 13:15Speaker 2: thanks a lot. Yeah. All right, let's go to another
- 13:17Speaker 2: phone call here. This is Caligula, and he's calling from
- 13:20Speaker 2: a car. Are you on a car phone, Caligula? Yes,
- 13:23Speaker 2: I am, and I'm actually traveling with a family right now.
- 13:26Speaker 4: We're on our way to Wichita for a... moving. The
- 13:29Speaker 4: family's moving.
- 13:29Speaker 2: I'm in a little cat chair here in the back,
- 13:31Speaker 2: but I was able to get a hold of the
- 13:33Speaker 2: cell phone. Baby, my name is Caligula, and I would
- 13:36Speaker 2: like to say it's a great pleasure to meet you.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Don't you sound like a fancy dad. Well, you know,
- 13:43Speaker 2: I've seen my fair share of excitement in my day,
- 13:47Speaker 2: but I walk around now with a little collar with
- 13:49Speaker 2: a bell on it, and a little girl puts me
- 13:50Speaker 2: in a... She puts a bonnet on me. It's... Oh, Christ.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You know what? My hat, or whatever I wear on
- 13:56Speaker 2: my head... Is off to you kinds of cats where
- 13:59Speaker 2: the kid puts the bonnet on? No, but you know
- 14:01Speaker 2: the trade-off is I have a very easy life, and
- 14:04Speaker 2: I eat the rich foods, and I'm probably about 10
- 14:06Speaker 2: pounds overweight. I'll probably die of diabetes, but, you know,
- 14:10Speaker 2: but I am very pleased to make your acquaintance because
- 14:13Speaker 2: you are out there in the world making a difference,
- 14:16Speaker 2: and meanwhile I'm here wearing a sweater.
- 14:19Speaker 4: And sitting on a sofa so people could come up
- 14:22Speaker 4: and go.
- 14:24Speaker 2: You sound frustrated. It is frustrating. What's frustrating?
- 14:30Speaker 4: I was.
- 14:30Speaker 2: After I did the heroic deed, I was out running around.
- 14:33Speaker 2: They had to trap me. Well, I understand that, but...
- 14:36Speaker 2: Don't you feel loved? Yes, I feel loved, but the
- 14:39Speaker 2: fact that you did something great, and I've never done
- 14:43Speaker 2: anything great. If you spend your whole life wearing a
- 14:46Speaker 2: sweater vest and sitting on a bed... and licking a
- 14:49Speaker 2: paw and occasionally wiping it on your face. You've done
- 14:52Speaker 2: your job as a cat, you know that. And so
- 14:56Speaker 2: you have to understand, not all of us can be heroes,
- 14:59Speaker 2: but you Caligula... His name's Caligula. Yes, Caligula. Okay, you Caligula, you. Yeah, you. Well,
- 15:08Speaker 2: thank you very much.
- 15:09Speaker 4: I appreciate that.
- 15:10Speaker 2: All right, Caligula, thanks for calling.
- 15:12Speaker 4: It's Caligula, you.
- 15:13Speaker 2: All right, so that's Caligula, and listen, baby, I know
- 15:15Speaker 2: you've got to get going, but... It's been so great
- 15:18Speaker 2: talking to you. You know, I enjoy it. Every now
- 15:22Speaker 2: and again, I have some guys find me online and
- 15:25Speaker 2: call me up. I was on the Gus and Gum show.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 2: That's the cat talk show in the Rocky.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Mountains, right?
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very popular. Gus and Gums, two cats. You know,
- 15:36Speaker 2: they do a food show where they compare chickens and
- 15:40Speaker 2: livers and things. And then they also chase a mouse.
- 15:44Speaker 2: They have a mouse race. Hey, I've heard about that show.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Is any good? It's okay, but they interviewed me. And then,
- 15:52Speaker 2: of course, Morris the Cat, the 15th version of him,
- 15:56Speaker 2: interviewed me on the big national show. That was back
- 15:58Speaker 2: in the day. Oh, so you've done all of them?
- 16:00Speaker 2: I've done pretty much all, yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Well, listen, baby, thank you so much for being on
- 16:05Speaker 1: the program and for being here on Catscapes and being
- 16:09Speaker 1: our Hero Canada Week.
- 16:11Speaker 2: We have for you... Take it away, Thunder.
- 16:13Speaker 3: We have for you a whole box of Temptations, which
- 16:17Speaker 3: is a cat treat, and then you got another box
- 16:21Speaker 3: of the freeze-dried turkey.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Oh, well, isn't that wonderful? The Temptations are good. They
- 16:28Speaker 2: put the weight on, but who gives a shit?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Okay, well, listen, thanks very much for talking with us today.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Baby from Chicago, the hero cat of the day.
- 16:38Speaker 2: I love it so.
- 16:41Speaker 1: This is Catscapes with Shadow, Smokey, and Thunder. We'll be
- 16:45Speaker 1: right back.
- 16:47Speaker 3: On Catscapes.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Hey, Shadow here reminding you to get a backstage pass
- 16:52Speaker 1: to the world-famous Phil Hendry Show website.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Why?
- 16:55Speaker 1: If you're a human, you'll find a lot of that
- 16:57Speaker 1: stuff funny. If you're a cat, you won't. But I'm
- 16:59Speaker 1: not talking to a cat right now. Cats listen to
- 17:01Speaker 1: that and they go, what is that? You know what
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'm talking about, right, Thunder? He's your owner.
- 17:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I do. It's no way.
- 17:08Speaker 2: But don't you go down there and... You go down
- 17:10Speaker 2: to the studio and listen to them.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I sit down, wait for them, I go, whatever.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Okay, see?
- 17:16Speaker 1: So forget it for cats. Forget about it for cats. However,
- 17:19Speaker 1: if you're a human, you'll love the Phil Hendry Show.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Get a backstage pass at philhendryshow.com. Right now, what are
- 17:25Speaker 1: they doing, Smokey?
- 17:26Speaker 2: Yeah, they got a 15%.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Off, you know.
- 17:27Speaker 2: 15% off what? Off of the price. 15% off of, oh,
- 17:36Speaker 2: I'm sorry, a year's subscription. A year's subscription. So don't
- 17:40Speaker 2: miss it. Try it at philandreshow.com. You'll dig it. Catscapes,
- 17:45Speaker 2: brought to you by Mrs. Newton's Meat Pies. For the
- 17:48Speaker 2: cat in all of us. Mrs. Newton, it's... It ain't
- 17:52Speaker 2: that good.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And now back to Catscapes with Shadow, Smokey, and Thunder.
- 18:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back here to Catscapes, and that brings
- 18:02Speaker 1: us to the portion of the program that we call
- 18:05Speaker 1: How Dumb Are Dogs?
- 18:07Speaker 2: And the best story... You got that, Smokey? Yeah, the
- 18:10Speaker 2: best story that what you tell... For the cat that
- 18:14Speaker 2: tells the best How Dumb a Dog story, you get
- 18:17Speaker 2: a couple of spare ribs from Newton's over here.
- 18:21Speaker 3: At the grocery store.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Yeah, Newton's grocery store. And then you'll get some shrimp
- 18:26Speaker 2: and some crab meat from Joe's Stone Crab in Miami.
- 18:30Speaker 2: How about that, huh? It's pretty good. How about that?
- 18:33Speaker 2: Some Joe's Stone Crabs. You can't miss out on that.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Take a phone call here. All right, let's go over here.
- 18:38Speaker 2: This is Roman here on the Catscape Show. How dumb
- 18:41Speaker 2: are dogs, Roman? Yes, I've got a story about a
- 18:45Speaker 2: dog that I knew that had a house name. This
- 18:49Speaker 2: dog was named Francis. This dog is what? This dog
- 18:53Speaker 2: named Francis. Yeah, he's got a story. The dog's name
- 18:56Speaker 2: is Francis St.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Bernard?
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yes, sir. That's right. Well, go ahead, Roman. What's it about? Well,
- 19:02Speaker 2: this best story, I think it's a great story. What
- 19:05Speaker 2: I always did with this dog is I would lie
- 19:08Speaker 2: on top of a washing machine like I was asleep.
- 19:11Speaker 2: And then here's what happened. He'd walk by and I'd
- 19:13Speaker 2: jump on his head. And he'd be, you know, all
- 19:16Speaker 2: just completely discombobulated by that. And he always walked by.
- 19:21Speaker 2: They always do that. They never learn from their mistakes,
- 19:23Speaker 2: do they?
- 19:23Speaker 4: No, they never do. They never do.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Let me have this again then, Roman. That you're laying
- 19:28Speaker 2: on top of the washing machine. Yeah. And the dog's
- 19:30Speaker 2: always walking by the washing machine but never expects it.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Never expects it, no. And I'm laying there and I
- 19:35Speaker 2: look and I see here comes a dog. So I
- 19:37Speaker 2: kind of tuck in so he doesn't see my ears
- 19:39Speaker 2: or my tail. He comes walking by, just, yeah, right
- 19:42Speaker 2: down on top of his head. Man, he takes off
- 19:44Speaker 2: running like a, he takes off running like grease light
- 19:46Speaker 2: through a white snake's, well, excuse me, I was going
- 19:48Speaker 2: to say. That's okay. Yeah. But for me, and every
- 19:52Speaker 2: time he does that, I always say to him, why,
- 19:55Speaker 2: you know, why do you do that? He says, well,
- 19:57Speaker 2: I said, every time I'm on top of that washing machine.
- 20:00Speaker 3: They never learn.
- 20:02Speaker 4: They never learn, no.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Okay, Roman, that's pretty good. I like that story. So
- 20:04Speaker 2: that's Roman with... That's a story from Roman about the
- 20:08Speaker 2: dumb dog. Yeah, the dog's a good place a cat
- 20:12Speaker 2: to hide is on a washing machine. Yeah, on a
- 20:14Speaker 2: washing machine. I used to do that. What do you
- 20:16Speaker 2: tell a story about dumb dogs?
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yeah, what about the dumb dogs you've known? Well, I mean,
- 20:20Speaker 1: I've known some dumb dogs. I used to sit on
- 20:23Speaker 1: top of the washing machine and do that. The other
- 20:25Speaker 1: thing I used to do with my, well, the dogs
- 20:26Speaker 1: that I know is like, but you know what? I
- 20:28Speaker 1: talked about this with Smokey where you say to him, hey,
- 20:31Speaker 1: look at that. It looks like an airplane or something.
- 20:33Speaker 1: You start eating their food.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I'll catch to that.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Especially cats that live with dogs, yeah. You always fool
- 20:39Speaker 2: a dog if you want to have some of its food.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 20:42Speaker 2: The problem is dogs eat that. I don't like the
- 20:44Speaker 2: stuff they eat. They eat a lot of stuff that's
- 20:46Speaker 2: got too much grains in it, you know? Cats have
- 20:48Speaker 2: got to have meat. Always the meat.
- 20:50Speaker 4: All right.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Okay, so the next call is here from Josephine on
- 20:56Speaker 2: the Catscape show. Okay, let's... Josephine, go ahead.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Oh, hello.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Josephine, what do you got for us?
- 21:03Speaker 5: Well, this is a story that I have about a dog,
- 21:08Speaker 5: two dogs that we lived with at one time, and
- 21:11Speaker 5: they were both Welsh Corgis. And we loved, my brother
- 21:16Speaker 5: and I, my name is Joseph, and my brother was Blackie.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Is Blackie still with us?
- 21:20Speaker 5: He is, but now he's very old. He sits back
- 21:23Speaker 5: in a basket someplace in the back of the house.
- 21:25Speaker 5: I go back occasionally and talk to him. But when
- 21:28Speaker 5: we were younger, we would let these two Welsh Corgis
- 21:32Speaker 5: chase us outside.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Oh, it's a good one. I've done this before.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 21:36Speaker 5: And once they get outside, you turn around and you
- 21:38Speaker 5: run back in, and.
- 21:39Speaker 4: You kick the door shut.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Oh, that's a great... You put the dogs outside, huh?
- 21:43Speaker 5: You put them outside, so they don't know what happened.
- 21:45Speaker 2: And, well, Blackie, I'm talking about you, Blackie. You just
- 21:47Speaker 2: got up from business. I'm talking about you. By the
- 21:50Speaker 2: time we chase down the... I'm talking on the Cascades Hill. Hey,
- 21:54Speaker 2: how are you guys doing? Hey, is this Blackie? Yeah. Hey, Blackie,
- 21:58Speaker 2: I was just talking to your sister, Josephine. She says
- 22:00Speaker 2: you used to let the Welsh Corgis... Yeah, yeah, that dumbass.
- 22:05Speaker 5: You go on back to sleep. So we let the
- 22:07Speaker 5: Welsh Corgis chase us, and then we closed the door
- 22:09Speaker 5: on them. They spent all night out there. And the owner,
- 22:12Speaker 5: you know, the human in the house said, what happened
- 22:14Speaker 5: to those dogs? And I'd say, I don't know. You know,
- 22:19Speaker 5: I'd look real dumb, like we can do.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great one. So the dogs, you chase
- 22:23Speaker 2: the dogs outside, then you run back inside. Yeah, Blackie said... Oh,
- 22:27Speaker 2: he'd kick the door. You just got to bump the
- 22:30Speaker 2: door with your body because you can't do it.
- 22:31Speaker 4: You don't got no hands, you know.
- 22:33Speaker 5: We don't have no hands. We're cats.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Well, neither do dogs, either. You got to remember that one.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Neither do dogs.
- 22:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good point. He said neither do dogs.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Oh, no shit.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Okay, that's great. So there you have Josephine.
- 22:45Speaker 1: That's her brother, Blackie, talking about chasing the dog. Let
- 22:49Speaker 1: the dog chase you outside, and then you turn around
- 22:51Speaker 1: and go back inside.
- 22:52Speaker 2: And the dogs are outside.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Right.
- 22:55Speaker 2: All right, there's our last story now.
- 22:57Speaker 1: This one's from Whiskers, and Whiskers is up in Manitoba,
- 23:02Speaker 1: up there in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Hey, how you doing, Whiskers? What's going on? Welcome to Catscapes. Yeah,
- 23:07Speaker 2: I've got a story here about a cat that, when
- 23:12Speaker 2: they're sleeping, is this the Catscapes show? Yeah, it's Catscapes.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 23:16Speaker 2: So, this is the story.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Where are you from originally, Whiskers?
- 23:21Speaker 2: I come from Canada originally, but to my honest, they're
- 23:24Speaker 2: all German. So I just pick up... Oh, so you
- 23:27Speaker 2: picked up their accent, huh? Yeah. But, so anyway, where
- 23:31Speaker 2: was I? You talk about the dog when they're sleeping?
- 23:35Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 23:36Speaker 2: So do I tell the story now? Yeah, go ahead.
- 23:39Speaker 2: So the dog is sleeping, and when he sleeps, you
- 23:41Speaker 2: can jump on their head and then run away, you know?
- 23:44Speaker 2: So they are, like, sleeping. Then you come up and go, whee!
- 23:48Speaker 2: And you leap on the dog, and then you run.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Just like that. And the dog wakes up, doesn't know
- 23:53Speaker 2: what hit him, huh? The dog doesn't know what hit him, yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 2: It's a lot of fun. Yeah, I've done that before.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Dogs will go, oh, then they know like you're playing,
- 24:01Speaker 2: and then they want to play with you. Yeah, well,
- 24:02Speaker 2: the only problem is you have to stick around and
- 24:04Speaker 2: play with them then. And dogs are okay, but they're
- 24:08Speaker 2: not the greatest... in the world when it comes to playing, because,
- 24:11Speaker 2: you know, cats, we move. We move like the.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Wind, you know?
- 24:14Speaker 1: Well, we're pretty fast, there's no question. Dogs never going
- 24:17Speaker 1: to chase us down or nothing like that.
- 24:19Speaker 2: No, no, unless we get pinned in, you know, by something. But, yeah,
- 24:22Speaker 2: that is a lot of fun. Okay, well, listen, thanks
- 24:26Speaker 2: so much, Whiskers. Do I win the prize, or do I... No,
- 24:30Speaker 2: we're going to figure that out, and then we'll give
- 24:32Speaker 2: you a call, okay?
- 24:33Speaker 4: You want my number?
- 24:34Speaker 2: Didn't we get it off the air? It's 22... All right,
- 24:37Speaker 2: but get his number there.
- 24:38Speaker 3: What's your number?
- 24:40Speaker 2: So, although, dude, just pretend like you're getting his number
- 24:43Speaker 2: because you don't win. Okay, you don't. But don't tell
- 24:46Speaker 2: him that. Don't tell him that, kid.
- 24:48Speaker 5: What's your number?
- 24:48Speaker 2: Anyway, what do you think, Smokey? Well, I mean, I
- 24:52Speaker 2: think the cats that ran outside and kicked the door back. Yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 2: the cats that ran outside had the dogs chase them.
- 24:59Speaker 2: And that was Josephine and Blackie, huh? Yeah, yeah, right there.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Josephine and Blackie.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you know him.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Get off the phone with him, okay? What are you doing?
- 25:07Speaker 3: I just want to know what's going on.
- 25:09Speaker 2: He don't have to know what's going on. Was that
- 25:12Speaker 2: that Whiskers? What's with this Whiskers with the German... Hey. Well,
- 25:16Speaker 2: the guy is in Canada.
- 25:17Speaker 1: So it doesn't mean you've got to sound like you're German. So, anyway,
- 25:23Speaker 1: the winner is Josephine and her brother Blackie. They would
- 25:27Speaker 1: run outside, make the dog chase them outside, and the
- 25:30Speaker 1: next thing you know, they're, you know, outside. Yeah, they're outside,
- 25:34Speaker 1: but the dog's outside. They go back in.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Huh?
- 25:37Speaker 2: Were you listening?
- 25:38Speaker 3: Oh, you know what I'm talking about.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I'm only kidding around with you. Come on, Shadow. Take
- 25:42Speaker 2: a cigarette break. Take a cigarette break.
- 25:46Speaker 3: What are you talking about?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Yeah, what are you talking about? I'm just having a
- 25:49Speaker 2: couple of laughs over here. All right, look, that's today's show.
- 25:52Speaker 2: That's the winner. And by the way, Josephine and Blackie,
- 25:55Speaker 2: have you got the number?
- 25:56Speaker 3: Give him a call right now.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Call him up.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Josephine and Blackie, you are the winners of Joe's Stone Crab.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Here we are. Well, I don't want to talk to them. Oh,
- 26:06Speaker 2: we are very, very.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Hey, Blackie, we won.
- 26:08Speaker 2: How about that? I never won a goddamn thing in
- 26:10Speaker 2: my life. That's wonderful. Okay, pal. Uh, sayonara. Jesus, H.
- 26:16Speaker 4: You're the winner.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you win, Josephine and Blackie. All right, so congratulations,
- 26:24Speaker 2: Josephine and Blackie. Also, congratulations to Baby, our hero cat.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Of the week.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Saved that family with that burning apartment or something like that.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not sure what was burning up, but, you know. Anyway,
- 26:34Speaker 1: their insurance, that's what was burning up. Anyway, we'll see
- 26:37Speaker 1: you next time on Catscapes. Catscapes, executive produced by Phil
- 26:42Speaker 1: Henry for Siempre Incorporated.
- 26:46Speaker 5: I'm Thunder.
- 26:48Speaker 2: This is Shadow. And I'm Smokey. Is that it?
- 26:53Speaker 4: Yes.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Where do we get our checks? I'm leaving town.
- 26:59Speaker 4: I'm going out of town.
