- 0:00Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian re
- 0:03podcast. Today's guest is a professional
- 0:06flute player from Las Vegas. Very, very cool to have are in
- 0:10clear on the show. How you doing?
- 0:11I'm doing great. Thank you so much for having me.
- 0:14Oh, the pleasure is mine Pleasures?
- 0:15Mine! I've been looking forward to
- 0:17this for a while. But before just, before we get
- 0:20into you and everything about you, we were talking off-camera
- 0:25about the types of work we do. I've just come off a ship.
- 0:30Shift today and I'm feeling like are and I got do another podcast
- 0:33tomorrow before I go to work. So life is a bit of a blur for
- 0:36me. But what kind of work are you
- 0:38doing for? So right now I actually have a
- 0:44little hospitality and tourism internship going on that.
- 0:47I'm training for. I just started out here in
- 0:50Vegas, so currently working front desk.
- 0:54So I've been training for that been doing.
- 0:56We do like a week on each shift, so the morning shift the swing
- 0:59shift. Afternoon shift and then, of
- 1:01course, the graveyard shift. So I've just finished my
- 1:04training this morning, I worked just work, 10 days in a row
- 1:09first five were, what was it 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.?
- 1:13And then I went straight into 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for five days.
- 1:17So, yes, I am very much blue as well.
- 1:21We'd like, I got back into customer service stuff for the
- 1:24first time in five years, the other day.
- 1:27Now, one part of all the other day, August, or August.
- 1:30Yeah, it's getting to me and I don't know, I don't know what to
- 1:34make of it, really. I mean it's the work is easy as
- 1:37fine. Whatever its minimum wage.
- 1:39It is what it is. You gotta do what you gotta do
- 1:41but it's weird to go back into it after, you know, being out of
- 1:45it. But you know, I don't know, I
- 1:48thought I suppose it all depends on your perspective by one thing
- 1:50I've noticed. But coming back into it is that
- 1:53my attitude when I was younger was like somewhat somewhat quite
- 1:57lazy, like not like lazy, in the sense that I Cara, didn't try,
- 2:01but lazy in the sense that like, I don't know, I really had to
- 2:05like force myself to go in whereas now I'm kind of just
- 2:07like yeah I do it whatever. And then as soon as I get to do
- 2:13stuff that really matters like this, I'm like, okay and I throw
- 2:17myself into it but I was literally like rushing to get
- 2:20back today. I was just like, come on, come
- 2:23on, the cat down. She's you just got to make it
- 2:26that I totally agree. Like It is an internship and
- 2:31it's like professional and everything like that.
- 2:33But to me, I mean, my heart is in it as much as I can.
- 2:38But of course, like I put my heart into my music and I think
- 2:41it's good to have a little dig day job, so you're not
- 2:44completely relying on your music.
- 2:47And like, eventually I would like to do that.
- 2:50Of course, that is the main goal, but not making it, it
- 2:53doesn't make it as much of a chore, you know.
- 2:56So but customer service in hospitality is It'll get to you
- 3:00because people are in vacation mode.
- 3:03They're not listening to you, they'll yell at you and you just
- 3:06got to take it. So prescript perspective is it's
- 3:10good though. It's good to not judge.
- 3:12It's like learning to not judge people, you know?
- 3:15Because you don't know what they've been through, you know?
- 3:17See this is where I disagree with you, because I'll tell you
- 3:21why. So, why I get where you're
- 3:24coming from? And I do bite my lip and try to
- 3:27just by pointing little bubble butt.
- 3:29That's something very different. I bite my tongue.
- 3:36I'm embarrassed now. All right.
- 3:42This is why. I mean, you come straight off a
- 3:43shift in your mind as soon as you said it.
- 3:46I was like that's it. Let's just let him go the time
- 3:55and just deal with it. But when you said they're like,
- 3:57about being on vacation mode like, I don't know, man.
- 4:02Like I've had everything from people throwing like - words
- 4:06shouting doing the clicking thing I do.
- 4:10And it's like, you know, even before I worked in customer
- 4:14services, I never would have dreamt of speaking to people,
- 4:17the way that I've been spoken to, or been treated.
- 4:19Like, I just can't imagine treating another human being
- 4:21like that. Let alone in the service
- 4:24industry, like I don't know. It just rubs me the wrong way.
- 4:27It's I agree. But I put you in perspective in
- 4:30Kind of makes you wonder like you know, because sometimes you
- 4:35can, you don't really realize how you talk to people and it
- 4:38kind of like once you're in that position, not that I felt like
- 4:41I've ever been mean to a service person but just to like, you
- 4:46really start to appreciate other people when you go on vacation,
- 4:49or you go to a restaurant, or you go to a store and stuff like
- 4:52that, it's just kind of given them like, hey, thanks for doing
- 4:56what you do. I know that this is the last
- 4:58thing you want to be doing right now, and I really We appreciate
- 5:01you being here, you know so yeah it's a good prescript
- 5:05perspective, kind of thing, you know.
- 5:07But yeah, I agree that sense like a there it has taught me to
- 5:12be a lot more patient when it comes to getting things.
- 5:15I'll say that much but then it's also taught me to be a bit
- 5:17snobby as well bear with me. So when it comes to things like
- 5:22the presentation of things and how things are delivered and so
- 5:25I always specially like when promises are made and then
- 5:28they're broken and stuff like that.
- 5:29Like That's where I get a bit iffy because I'm like well, if
- 5:32that would be doing that, that will be done right now.
- 5:36You know, and if not they will be like heavy apologies and then
- 5:39moving on to like trying to fix that and I've been in situations
- 5:43where I've been with the on the other end of receiving that
- 5:45service and it's like mmmm, I don't know but then I don't know
- 5:50a lot of things can happen at once and sometimes it is just
- 5:53unmanageable. Plus, it's the crazy thing is as
- 5:57well as that like you don't always have Management involved
- 6:01in the situation, like, I'm lucky in the position, I'm in
- 6:03right now, management is great and everything, but when it
- 6:06comes to most of the places, I've worked with so many times,
- 6:11when it's been like, well, I'm gonna go do this, you're right
- 6:15here, right? And it's like, you're dealing
- 6:17with like, 300 people and you're like, yeah, fuck, yeah, where
- 6:23I'm at right now as well, everybody.
- 6:26They make it quite clear that they'll have your back and
- 6:28that's one thing. That I love because like I like
- 6:35I said, I've only been doing three weeks here and I've
- 6:38already had situations where a guest is just rude to me and I'm
- 6:43training. I'm like new trying to get on my
- 6:46own and the people at like I said, front desk.
- 6:49So there's people next to me that our experience have been
- 6:52there for years or at least a year, you know, and they'll be
- 6:55like sir, please, she's training, she's new, you really
- 6:58don't have to talk to her that way like They will immediately
- 7:01have your back and I as soon as I feel comfortable, I'll be
- 7:05doing the same thing, you know. So I feel really comfortable and
- 7:10really kind of taking care of here and this, in this job.
- 7:13So that's why I 10 days. Nah, I don't even care if I had
- 7:17a good time with good people, you know, that's how it should
- 7:20be the same where I'm like, right now is Good Vibes.
- 7:22I'm a little bit older than everyone so I'm like 29,
- 7:26everyone else is kind of like 20 21.
- 7:29It's interesting like They rule in the right headspace, which
- 7:32makes it more of a fun. Enjoyable place to be right now,
- 7:37is this your first position like or have you had other jobs
- 7:40brightest or I have had other jobs?
- 7:43So I would say that my first like real job was at a roller
- 7:49rink my freshman year of college.
- 7:51Damn. Yes.
- 7:53So that was fun but I talked about craziness that you had to
- 7:57deal with but I worked a couple of like I obviously I majored in
- 8:02music performance. So during like the fall season
- 8:06football season is packed tight with rehearsals.
- 8:10So I really could only get a job in the spring semester and in
- 8:13the summer and I would move home for the Summer.
- 8:16So I kind of had like semester jobs.
- 8:18So just a couple like, odd jobs here and there, but after I
- 8:21graduated college, I worked at Disney World for seven months.
- 8:27I did a Disney college program and then I moved home after my
- 8:31program, ended worked on a little Boutique at the beach
- 8:34where I'm from in Florida and then this out here.
- 8:39So I feel like I feel like this is my first big girl job because
- 8:43I was surrounded like you said, you're Founded by like you're
- 8:46like the oldest one. I'm one of the younger ones in
- 8:50this like executive type, you know, Vibe and everything.
- 8:54So I feel it. Also, you can tell the tone in
- 8:59everything because I've worked at jobs with, like, younger
- 9:01people, or people my age, and it's like, it's a crap show, you
- 9:07know, but here like I would talk to my trainers like hey, is
- 9:10there anybody like that? I need to like, look out for
- 9:12like, who's the snake here, you know?
- 9:15I need to steer clear of and they're like, no, nobody.
- 9:18We all like, hang out. And like, seriously, all these
- 9:22people are adults there, they got there there, big girl pants
- 9:26on and they're not really here for the drama and they're just
- 9:29having a good time and so I just feel so, like, it's almost too
- 9:35good to be true. You know, it's not just too good
- 9:37to be true, but I'm just like, wow, everybody's actually an
- 9:41adult here. Like that's, that's crazy,
- 9:43that's insane. I've never seen that before.
- 9:45Or so I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying it.
- 9:48But yeah, a couple other jobs from here and there but this one
- 9:51so far I'd I'm like, it's difficult.
- 9:53It's challenging, but I do enjoy it.
- 9:56I know exactly what you mean when you say that.
- 9:58Like it was, I mean, I kind of just came into this particular
- 10:01job like, so I'll give you a bit of context and for those who
- 10:05already know, I'm sorry, I'm repeating it but it's like I
- 10:09came into this basically. I was doing like a few freelance
- 10:13jobs in marketing, that's like my are special.
- 10:15And and to fully pursue acting and things like podcasting and
- 10:20everything else that I'm trying to do in my life.
- 10:22I realized like I have to be freelance or, you know, Zero
- 10:26Hour something like to that effect so that I have like the
- 10:29ability to chop and change and you know, basically flexibility.
- 10:33But with that comes certain sacrifices and that meant going
- 10:37back into customer services. And you know, I was a bit
- 10:41nervous to be honest to go back into it and also because of the
- 10:45same things that you just raised.
- 10:46Like my experience is all have always been both in corporate
- 10:49and in customer services just like yeah same thing.
- 10:54Who do I avoid? What will that this?
- 10:55What about that? But yeah, I get none of that in
- 10:57this place and it's nice. It's really and it's fun, I
- 11:01don't know. Like it's I will say this, any
- 11:04City that you're growing up in that, you should have like fun
- 11:08work. That's befitting.
- 11:09Acted, like your age and you should go out and you should
- 11:12want to go out or your work colleagues and stuff like It's
- 11:15bad. Like this bar job of just
- 11:17started, if anything, it's just encouraged me to drink more.
- 11:21I'm trying to channel that. Take care of myself.
- 11:23Go to. Yeah.
- 11:23That's what, like, if this is like a Vegas, like everybody's
- 11:26like going out to the clubs and like, and I'm like, you guys are
- 11:29like 30 years old. What are you?
- 11:30What are you guys acting like, freaking.
- 11:32You just turned 21, but I'm down with it.
- 11:35I'm so down with it. It's crazy for some people, it's
- 11:38like a blow off and for other people they have different
- 11:41attitude. Like remember I met a guy when I
- 11:43was living in Europe? Who described?
- 11:45His 30s as like his second 20s. Okay, fair enough.
- 11:48He didn't have he didn't have like kids, yeah or anything.
- 11:52So I think that does change things and also my instance.
- 11:56Yeah. Single that have kids don't have
- 11:58anything like that. So there is maximum kind of
- 12:03flexibility to do those things but at the same time, it is, you
- 12:07are older and you do have to be more responsible and it's weird.
- 12:11I don't know what to make of. I mean, what do you really do?
- 12:14You want to file into the Confines, the society pushes on
- 12:17us. I know that's so hippy-dippy but
- 12:19really you know like the timeline.
- 12:23It doesn't have to be what everybody says it has to be.
- 12:25That's what I kind of try to tell people like how I have like
- 12:28The Nomad Gypsy Spirit. I'm like, yeah, I wanna like I
- 12:33don't really ever want to settle down in one place unless it's
- 12:36like one place that I fall in love with like how can you
- 12:40choose where you want to be if you haven't been everywhere yet,
- 12:42you know and people are so In a hurry.
- 12:47And I feel like my friends are going to listen to this and
- 12:49think I'm calling them out. And if it works for them, it
- 12:52works for them. But I feel like a lot of people
- 12:55are so in a hurry to settle down and I know that there's comfort
- 12:58in that for a lot of people, I I'm not comfortable with that so
- 13:03it and I don't think if it's if you're not comfortable with it,
- 13:06don't do it, you know, like I just feel like you can do a lot
- 13:12more than what like is kind of pushed on you in school.
- 13:15All and movies. Like you know, because the
- 13:19lifestyle of being born going to school, getting education, get a
- 13:25job, get married, have a kid and then die, pretty much.
- 13:30And let your kid do the same thing and then just, you know,
- 13:33grow old or whatever. I don't know.
- 13:35It was maybe eventually it'll appeal to me, but right now, not
- 13:41so much. No, I totally.
- 13:43I'm right there with you on that.
- 13:46I think when I was a lot younger and I was like a teenager like I
- 13:49had this idea in my head that oh I should probably you know
- 13:53follow what society says and do all this stuff you know.
- 13:56But I didn't want to buy felt like all I suppose, that's the
- 13:59right thing to do and then I just realized steadily over time
- 14:02that like I just can't be happy doing that.
- 14:05And so and in like as much as it's kind of scary to do
- 14:10unconventional like that live in an unconventional way, It was a
- 14:15very exciting and because you really don't know what the next
- 14:19step is like, you don't know where the winds going to take
- 14:21you like. Yeah, it's all about the life
- 14:25that's going to make you happy and you just kind of make it,
- 14:28you have to make it work for yourself, you know.
- 14:30I mean like I can't be a like a rockstar flute player with a 9
- 14:33to 5 it's just not how it's got you know.
- 14:37Yeah maybe we can work for you, you got to make it work for you.
- 14:42Very true. Very true, right?
- 14:45So we've had a bit of a chance to like, talk about work.
- 14:49I don't know why I did. It was fun, I guess.
- 14:51Yeah, we both just pretty much. I got off a few hours ago as
- 14:54well. So yeah, pretty much, yeah.
- 14:57Oh my God. I'd say, yeah.
- 14:58Sorry for anyone. That's like, why is he talking
- 15:00about work? This is so boring.
- 15:03I guess. I like talking about it.
- 15:05Everybody works pretty much. So this is example, this is
- 15:08something I do like when people are chasing their dreams and
- 15:10their balancing like a 9 to 5 because I noticed I get this
- 15:13question a lot. And I do live streams.
- 15:15People will say things like, oh, what do you do for work?
- 15:18Like what you do for a living? And I'm like, why do you care?
- 15:22Like its? I mean, I'll talk about it.
- 15:26And there are some interesting things like I work at a bar.
- 15:28So it's, you know, there are fun stories.
- 15:30It's not only, I'm sure. Oh yeah, forget done for us.
- 15:36But at the same time it's like, you know, it's not what I want
- 15:40to do and it's not what I'm enjoy talking about Eva.
- 15:43It's kind of yeah. Love like this.
- 15:45I love you know for instance with the podcast and I said it a
- 15:49million times but like every single time I do this show is
- 15:53different, you know, be it a different person, a different
- 15:56topic, you know, I get something from it, my viewers, get
- 15:59something from, It's Always different and that to me is just
- 16:05mind-blowing and never stops being interested, but it's like
- 16:08the, but the bar can be like either really busy sometimes
- 16:12fun, sometimes really boring Like it just like, so I've got
- 16:17like at times. I'm at the bar and I'm just
- 16:19sitting there. Like, what am I doing with my
- 16:22life, literally? I'm just like I should be out
- 16:25there performing and doing these things.
- 16:27I love. But instead, I'm in this place.
- 16:30All right? Anyway we're working to get, we
- 16:34work in the get out of that. Exactly.
- 16:36Yeah. It just is just to pay the
- 16:38bills. This is just the get your gear
- 16:40to in like your dream pedalboard.
- 16:42Your dream gears, you know, that's It's for let's hope a 38.
- 16:48Oh my God. It does.
- 16:49It does. Actually speaking of which,
- 16:51before I get into, let your musical Journey like talk us
- 16:53through that the cost of like a professional flutes.
- 16:56What's that like? Yeah.
- 16:57I--'cause I recently just, you know, I just moved across the
- 17:00country and I'm trying to get everything together and I'm in
- 17:03the process of like, making all this new music.
- 17:05And I'm like, I decided to release like or launch a patreon
- 17:09and everything like that. I'm like, this is so much but
- 17:13like flute. Maintenance can really, really
- 17:16be a lot like a flute like a I don't want to see it.
- 17:20Low end or a cheap but like a affordable reasonable
- 17:26professional flute. You're going to look at like
- 17:29fifteen to twenty-five hundred, you know.
- 17:32Luckily I have one I had I got a scholarship out of high school
- 17:36that I used to buy my like college-level flu and it'll last
- 17:40you and everything but I mean I have a Pearl Flute, from the 70s
- 17:45that I play outside. I have, you have to have
- 17:48multiple flutes because you can't use your one flute for
- 17:50everything. So, I have my outside flute, I
- 17:53have my inside, flute. You got to think about like
- 17:57photo shoots and video shoots, because if I just moved out here
- 18:01and I don't know anybody. So I'm having to like usually I
- 18:03have my friends come and help me, and I have some really good
- 18:07photographer friends that I met in Disney that did like
- 18:10PhotoPass at Disney so they they got me covered.
- 18:13On that. But that's when I was in
- 18:15Florida. Like, here I am having to kind
- 18:17of fend for myself and then home studio.
- 18:20Expenses are insane, you know microphones.
- 18:24I just bought like the clip-on mic that you can put on your
- 18:28flute when I'm not using that to record on my like this music
- 18:33that I'm doing. I have like a USB mic and
- 18:36everything and then I have like the sm57 I use guitar effect
- 18:42pedals on my and effect pedals are yeah and pedals are The
- 18:49funky crazy ones are, you know, of course, the most expensive
- 18:52ones. But yeah, and they were damp
- 18:55consider. They work in the same way that
- 18:57they would for the guitar. Or do they store any way?
- 19:01You know, it's been trial and error.
- 19:03That's another thing is you gotta drop 300 like, 150, to 300
- 19:09on a pedal that might not work, you know.
- 19:12So you just gotta make sure that there's a return policy or you
- 19:15can turn that thing around and Sell It Again.
- 19:18Um, because I've definitely gone through that and a lot of like
- 19:22local guitar shops will be like, oh yeah, bring your flute will
- 19:26hook you up and we'll let you try it all out and everything.
- 19:29So I've been fortunate enough to kind of fall into those
- 19:31situations where I don't really have to waste my money but yeah
- 19:36it's I don't want to say it, I don't know.
- 19:40I mean, it's hard to compare the sound of a flute and a guitar
- 19:43together, but I would say like the effect was like yeah, it
- 19:47does kind of have the same. I'm the same kind of effect,
- 19:50like a Reverb and delay. Pedal belongs on a flute.
- 19:53Like yes, of course, it belongs on a guitar as well.
- 19:56I'm not saying exclusively flu, but like really and then I have
- 20:00the TalkBack by danelectro so it's like a reverse delay.
- 20:04Hmm. That sounds insane on the flute,
- 20:06you know, Reaver or not Reverb. I'm sorry, fuzz and Distortion.
- 20:12That's kind of where I'm exploring right now.
- 20:17So I'm like distortion. Making it sound like just real
- 20:20gritty and nasty. So Usually pedals, right?
- 20:26I actually don't right now. I don't I don't have a loop
- 20:29pedal. I'm in the market for one.
- 20:31Like I said, well, she have the day job, it's in the works.
- 20:38Yes. But the reason I ask is like, do
- 20:40you have plans? Because I also, I don't know,
- 20:42like, your performance stuff. I know that you do perform live
- 20:45and stuff, but do you do you try or are you planning to sort of
- 20:49build your own kind of band thing?
- 20:52Like, as in one-woman show, or is it going to be like You know,
- 20:54you actually have a bad. Like, we're trying to do it,
- 20:56right? Right now, it's very much
- 20:59one-woman show like this, the single I have out right now and
- 21:03everything that I'm working on. I'm kind of using it.
- 21:07Or I don't want to say using, I'm kind of viewing.
- 21:10It more as like a discography resume like, hey, I did
- 21:16everything here. I'm a very versatile musician.
- 21:20This is what I can do. Let me know if you like it.
- 21:24Or not, you know, kind of thing when I play live.
- 21:31I will have usually like a backing track with me and then I
- 21:34just play on top of that. Okay, right now because I don't,
- 21:38I'm very meticulous. And, you know, I'm very
- 21:42meticulous and I want things done the way I want things done,
- 21:46and I know that that sounds kind of bratty, but I feel like
- 21:50everybody wants things done the way that they want things done.
- 21:53So, since the youth remorseful about that, but do you have any
- 21:58arguments with sound that it is? Yeah.
- 22:02When they'd start to tell me how to do, they don't, you know,
- 22:07because they don't know how to make Like a flu.
- 22:09They don't know what they're doing.
- 22:10I I hardly know what I'm doing. What kind of like talking to a
- 22:15sound guy? Yeah I'm like hey I guess let's
- 22:19figure it out and then the there's like a like a stagehand.
- 22:23That's like you have to get right up on the you have to
- 22:26write up on the mic or it's not going to work and I'm like sir
- 22:29or it's so funny and I know that you don't play the flu so you
- 22:32probably don't know but when they put the mic at the end of
- 22:35the flute, Hilarious. Number one comedy right there.
- 22:40If you put it right, where your mouth is because that's where
- 22:42like the sound resonates so it's just people don't know.
- 22:46Okay. Oh and then you like I'm a, I'm,
- 22:49you know, a lady. So I have to really prove myself
- 22:52that I know what I'm talking about.
- 22:54Oh, really? Still still that I thought.
- 22:57Yeah, I thought so too. I thought we'd be past that
- 23:01especially with like, these profound rock and roll women.
- 23:06That Our just mowing us all down left and right.
- 23:11You're gonna do think it's also because it's flute and it's like
- 23:14a, you know, foreign territory. But you know, what's this,
- 23:18what's the planet age demographic?
- 23:20You're dealing with when regards to like people have likes and
- 23:23engineer stuff like that. Generally are you just sounded
- 23:29like when were talking about like sound people would like
- 23:31older people write as good say because like when you say about,
- 23:34you have to prove yourself to people like immediately.
- 23:36I'm thinking. Yeah.
- 23:36They go. It's not but proving myself is
- 23:38not just to sound people. It's you'd be surprised.
- 23:42It's pretty much. I don't want to say like
- 23:44everybody but like it's a lot of people.
- 23:48It's a lot of people. There's like who was?
- 23:51What's the deal? Like I'm meet other musicians.
- 23:54And this is, this is not everybody.
- 23:57This is absolutely not everybody because you can I can tell like,
- 24:01oh my gosh, this person is awesome.
- 24:02If I say oh I'm using guitar, pedals on flute.
- 24:06Or. Oh, I love that or like I'm
- 24:09trying to like performer. Oh, I do this.
- 24:11Oh, I do that. And they're immediately like, oh
- 24:14that's interesting. Like tell me more.
- 24:16And then there's other people that are like, well, actually
- 24:20it's this, this this and this this and it's like, well
- 24:22actually it's not that like this is actually what it is.
- 24:27Just people that think that, they know a lot more.
- 24:29I'm trying not to be too explicit because I don't want to
- 24:32call people out specifically but Utah.
- 24:38And I'm not speaking for like all women's, I don't really
- 24:41know. But I know personally, it's been
- 24:43like It's been, it's an it annoys the crap out of me too,
- 24:48when I show up at a place and I'm like, yeah, I'm actually
- 24:51trying to be. I would love to be a famous rock
- 24:54and roll, flute player. Like I want to be in the rock
- 24:56and roll industry and they're like, hmm.
- 25:00Like you can't just that's not how it's going to work like, you
- 25:03know that, right. And I'm like, who says, you
- 25:06know, are there like, well, I'm trying to think of like what The
- 25:12other day I went out with my friend this is actually a
- 25:16specific story because it quite quite literally rubbed me the
- 25:21wrong way. Okay.
- 25:22And she was hanging out with like a group of guys and of
- 25:27course, I'm with her. So I'm hanging out with this
- 25:28group of guys and I guess the fact that I'm a musician, just
- 25:35kind of, like, seeps out of me. Like, it's my only personality
- 25:38trait I guess, who to cool man. Oh, thank you, thank you to this
- 25:50guy. I did rub.
- 25:52This guy was threatening this guy.
- 25:54I feel like, but he was apparently this.
- 25:57He says he like manages musicians.
- 26:00So I'm like, oh my God. Let's talk like, what are your
- 26:04rates? What like how do you like, what?
- 26:07I've never met somebody like that.
- 26:09That's like up-and-coming in that hole like that zone of the
- 26:15music industry and it was like primarily for like rap music.
- 26:19So I knew like I wasn't going to hire this guy, that's not really
- 26:23the direction where I'm going, but I was curious, you know,
- 26:26like cool. But he was like, yeah, I would
- 26:31charge you You and I could be, I could be completely ignorant to
- 26:35this. He was like, I would charge you
- 26:37215 bucks for or 250 bucks for a 15-minute set and I'm like, what
- 26:45do you mean? I'm like what sir?
- 26:48I have to pay you. 250 bucks to get booked for a 15-minute set
- 26:54like 15 and he's like, yeah, I'm like I call venues all the time
- 26:58and get booked for free and then they.
- 27:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:02Why would I need you? He's like well, if you want to
- 27:05get into these big venues and he started like a listing off like
- 27:07a bunch of venues and I was like, Okay, like I was just
- 27:11like, okay, like I'm like, I must not know Jack squat because
- 27:15I thought like managers and stuff were salary based, or at
- 27:20least like monthly base to, I take a couple.
- 27:24Yeah, yeah. Yeah, cut exactly.
- 27:27Because what would I get if I paid you, 250 bucks for and who
- 27:32wears a 15-minute set, you know, like that's quick in my opinion,
- 27:37you know, unless it's like a long.
- 27:39Line up and you're just like kind of like a writer's round or
- 27:43paper bag. Type deal paper bags out there.
- 27:47Universe looks like a paperback like paper bags.
- 27:50Like that's like a, it's kind of like a little mini line up, and
- 27:54you just like go and hang out and watch like a bunch of
- 27:56different like, oh, writers are musicians just kind of go around
- 28:00and go back and forth. I've heard him be called paper
- 28:03bags. I've just never heard that
- 28:05expression for that now. I'm now I'm second-guessing
- 28:08everything. No, no.
- 28:09No, no maybe assist Stateside thing.
- 28:11Like I just I don't know, I heard it in the UK but fair
- 28:14enough. I know, I know here in the UK
- 28:18that generally look a 15-minute set would, I've never seen it
- 28:22for like an official gig. I have seen it on like Open Mic
- 28:25nights. That's yeah, that's what I mean.
- 28:27Like paper bags are like open mic night.
- 28:29Oh yeah. Okay.
- 28:30It's very yeah, same kind of thing.
- 28:32You just kind of like go up and show your stuff and then you
- 28:35leave, you know? Yeah, absolutely. 15 minutes
- 28:37because you're not booked. Now, you just kind of show up
- 28:40and hang out our, you're on the roster, like you signed up in
- 28:44advance, you registered. But yeah, so I was confused by
- 28:47that guy, but it was. I and then I kind of he started
- 28:51like kind of talking down to me like, oh, you know, you're doing
- 28:56Hospitality, you know, you're like really in a good place for
- 28:58Hospitality, you know that, right?
- 29:00And I'm like, Las Vegas. Yeah, no duh.
- 29:02Like why do you think I'm here? And then I was like, you know,
- 29:06like you're ripping people off when you charge people that like
- 29:09musicians. Is that like you're really
- 29:10everything that's wrong with the music industry.
- 29:12You know that right. Ticked him off.
- 29:16He's like why don't you like me? I'm just being like me and I'm
- 29:20like, you're nasty and I don't like you.
- 29:23That's amazing. Which is what?
- 29:25Why don't you like me? Yeah.
- 29:26What are you like? Me.
- 29:27I'm just being nice to you. I'm like no you're not.
- 29:32What is insecure guy - that's and I think that is a lot of it
- 29:36is they see like an A confident in myself.
- 29:40I do. I do love myself.
- 29:42It's, you know, you gotta, but I show up and I know my stuff,
- 29:47John, if I don't, I'm willing to learn.
- 29:50Hmm. And I think that threatens a lot
- 29:52of people and I haven't, I haven't seen it in a lot of
- 29:56women. Like I haven't threatened a lot
- 29:58of other women yet, but I haven't really encountered a lot
- 30:01of women, but it's like a lot of dudes, like I just I roll up and
- 30:05up. I pissed him off for some
- 30:06reason. I don't know what it is but I
- 30:08do. I reckon.
- 30:10I know, because I've noticed this in certain guys.
- 30:13It's always insecure guys, like, they get like frightened by the
- 30:17idea of like a strong woman, but it's that old cliché isn't
- 30:21strong enough. Anyway.
- 30:24It's like what, what dude, what way does it bother you?
- 30:27You know. Yeah, this person has to work
- 30:30like 15 times harder than you. Yeah.
- 30:33Because of how Society works. It shouldn't work that way, but
- 30:36it's just like how it is. It's getting bad but it's So
- 30:40we're still working on it. I don't know as much as it is
- 30:43like working. I feel like I as a flute player
- 30:46have to work a little harder because like I said, earlier,
- 30:49foreign territory, I'm trying to push something that has rarely
- 30:53been done, you know? So in that sense, I feel like I
- 30:57have to take different approaches, but I don't know as
- 31:00much as like, it's working harder but it's just Like being
- 31:06viewed as, like, equal. Right off the bat, you know?
- 31:10That's okay. But we were talking about what?
- 31:12The plant, the long-term plans are.
- 31:14And I'm sorry, I would love to get picked up by a band, that's
- 31:17what I'm that was. That's kind of the okay.
- 31:19Yeah, long-term or like, that's kind of, I feel like that's more
- 31:24realistic is like, get picked up by a band, but like another kind
- 31:28of dream goal would be doing. Like being a feature artists
- 31:36almost like just kind of like being in a studio and featuring
- 31:39on a lot of different tracks like say that this band wanted a
- 31:44flute track I would go and I'd be like here let me lay it down
- 31:47for you and then I have like two other bands that also want me to
- 31:51lay down flute tracks for them. You know.
- 31:52So that kind of that would be super awesome.
- 31:56Soon as I saw that your flute player like other than just
- 32:01being enamored by that and also kind of your vibe.
- 32:04And install and stuff. Like I think the first thing
- 32:06that sort of came to me was then if you're familiar with this,
- 32:11this musician, think she's American possibly Canadian, they
- 32:15get things like Lindsey Stirling or stalinist, right?
- 32:19Yeah, do it. So, the reason I bring this up
- 32:22is obviously she, I think originally just did like, kind
- 32:25of like videos of her just playing, you know?
- 32:27I don't know Zelda theme or some shit.
- 32:29Yeah. And then she kind of started
- 32:31releasing her music and then it sort of Escalated to the point
- 32:35where she's now she's doing like tours and stuff like around.
- 32:37And she just like, featured on a Disney special, like a Disney
- 32:41World special, what she did, like the firework show live.
- 32:44She was the one that actually recorded for it and everything.
- 32:47Yeah, I do. I think she that's like the
- 32:49closest thing I can kind of relate to, as what kind of the
- 32:53goal is, this is why sinking ID, do you envision that, like you
- 32:56mentioned that it's kind of like non-conventional but there's has
- 33:02the there must be other famous. Just like successful,
- 33:05professional food players that you aspire to be like could you
- 33:08name some of them or like? Yeah, I I don't have like a I
- 33:15want to be like this person. Okay.
- 33:16Yeah. But of course Ian Anderson
- 33:20Jethro Tull you know and then I know a lot of people comment on
- 33:25my videos Liz. Oh, I don't consider lizzo like
- 33:29a like solidified flute player though.
- 33:32Like that's just kind of like a side thing.
- 33:34I know that she studied flute and everything.
- 33:35Yeah. I feel like when I talk about
- 33:38flute, like those are the three are the two that are Are you
- 33:42know, but Ian Anderson very Jazzy tone lizzo is a very crisp
- 33:47tone and she's very like Technical and like, flashy.
- 33:51I guess you could say with what had she just does like,
- 33:54hardcore, trills, you know this. So those two I'm a very like
- 33:58dreamy, vibey dreamy, creamy kind of vibe, but and Wilson the
- 34:03lead singer of Heart. She plays flute and she's a
- 34:06fabulous flute player. Shoot, of course, like there's
- 34:12like the famous flute players, like Sir James Galway, you know,
- 34:16Frances Doppler things like that, but I don't know.
- 34:20The Wrecking Crew is like a band there, like a little crew that
- 34:24used to feature on different tracks and like a lot of like
- 34:28Yacht Rock and like 70s, I'm pretty sure.
- 34:31So it's, there's, I have loads of Inspirations and things like
- 34:35that when it comes to instrumentalists.
- 34:40But like some like a explicitly. What I want to do, I haven't
- 34:46seen before. If that makes sense, I don't
- 34:50know. Again, I'm trying, I'm not
- 34:51trying to sound pretentious but I don't know because I feel like
- 34:57Ian Anderson was also like the singer as well.
- 35:01So and I I will sing. If the, if it's going to make or
- 35:06break the gig like, if it's like, you're not getting this
- 35:08gig. If you want saying I'll be like,
- 35:10okay, okay, I'll sing, you know, I can I'm not tone deaf, I can
- 35:14harmonize if I need to, I don't particularly care for my singing
- 35:18voice. Like, I don't think it's like a
- 35:19lead singer. It's like singing voice but but
- 35:24yeah, there's just, I would say those but think about like The
- 35:27Moody Blues, you know, they had a lot of flute.
- 35:30Like the, you know, how How I feel like I am all over the
- 35:35place with this conversation because I am sleep-deprived.
- 35:38But do you know the like that Rebirth of the Renaissance that
- 35:43happened in the 60s like fashion wise, and kind of like that
- 35:49whole era. Yeah.
- 35:52I feel like a rebirth of that rebirth would be awesome
- 35:57because, like 60s music and like early 70s was like there was
- 36:03just flutes on the track 100% of the time, you know.
- 36:06And then of course the mellotron came out which had the flute
- 36:12pre-recorded like one of the first like synthesizer kind of
- 36:16pre-recorded keyboards and everything, but I think feel
- 36:20like Right now, we could really use a rebirth like a refresher
- 36:27of that era of music that raw natural.
- 36:36Just I want to say Vibe but just like energy and their music, you
- 36:41know. I think we all getting them.
- 36:43I will say I've even had people on the show before who are like
- 36:47the fashion wise and music-wise? Yes, have been into like 67.
- 36:51His kind of music and increasingly, we're seeing more
- 36:54and more. It kind of makes sense because
- 36:56you know, for so long, we've been heavily commercialized as a
- 36:58society and people want for more than that, you know, it's like,
- 37:03like, how excited can you really be about 15 million iPhones
- 37:07doing this? Like, but that was always kind
- 37:09of a trap people, there will always be people that are
- 37:12obsessed with technology but at the same time there's always
- 37:16seems to be an attraction in society to what once was Was
- 37:22almost. Yeah, I know.
- 37:23I've been great, it's been that way.
- 37:24Like I've always been far more interested in what used to be
- 37:28rather than what is your aunt's living in the past.
- 37:30Like, right. Exactly.
- 37:32And I feel like Of course, the music.
- 37:37I love a good, I love a good pop song, like 2009's trashy, club
- 37:42music, I dig it you know, but it's easy to consume of course.
- 37:51And that's another thing with my music is there's no words
- 37:56because I'm not, you know, it's no words.
- 37:58It really, really leaves you in a spot where you have to
- 38:04interpret Rotate it yourself, you know like a music score from
- 38:10like a film. You know, if you don't really
- 38:12know the film that well and you're just listening to this
- 38:15quote-unquote quack classical music.
- 38:18You know, there's no words so that you just love it in the
- 38:21classical music pile, but like your you have to come up with
- 38:25your what is it like music video on your head or how it makes you
- 38:30feel and people will text me. Or like, message me like, oh I
- 38:37listen to your song today because I was sad and oh, like
- 38:41when I get really worked up it, like, that's the song that I
- 38:45need to help me cry. Linda, help me get that emotion
- 38:51out, which is so funny to me because I I was not sad.
- 38:55Writing it like to me riding that and like making that song
- 38:59was not sad. It was very like determined like
- 39:03it was about a pipe dream. Like everybody says that like
- 39:07this is your dream and everybody says you'll never get it like
- 39:10that was like I wanted to release music and I was told
- 39:16like that's just not how it works.
- 39:17You're not going to do that. And of course like I had to name
- 39:20my first single pipe dream because that's why I wrote it
- 39:24it's like it was this idea that I've had this whole time and
- 39:27people try to weave their way around it and try to sway your
- 39:32dream, but you'll stay constant with it.
- 39:35That's how it's very like determined confident song.
- 39:39So when people text me and they're like, I just cried to
- 39:44your song for 15 minutes. Like why why did you do that?
- 39:49So, it's it, it leaves room for emotional Freedom, you know.
- 39:54Like there's I'm trying to think of like a basic pop song, like
- 39:59off the top of my head, like, OMG by Usher and William, right?
- 40:05Like, you know what that songs about like you can't make up
- 40:08your own way. It's like, that's what it's
- 40:11about, you know? Just like some Brandon pop song.
- 40:14It's like, spoon-fed like this is what it's about.
- 40:18There you go. But like with music with no
- 40:20words you're like forced to make your own judgment on what it
- 40:27means to you and I think that's good for your brain.
- 40:30That's good for the Noggin right there and I'd say it's kind of
- 40:35You know, not that it's not happening right now but it's
- 40:37definitely not the norm. You know, it I feel like there
- 40:43needs to be more of that or it needs to be better.
- 40:47Well like more well received and want to.
- 40:52I feel like it needs to be sought after a lot more.
- 40:55You can't do anything about that.
- 40:56People are going to want what people want, but I wish that it
- 40:59was sought out a little bit more, you know, I think one
- 41:02thing that helps considerably Is so the Advent of the internet
- 41:07and the fact that people can access lots of different, ranges
- 41:11of music mean prior to that it was very much just yeah.
- 41:14What you hear on the radio. Maybe what you accidentally
- 41:17discover in a record shop other than that you're very limited.
- 41:20Whereas now I find most of the music I listen to these days is
- 41:25going to. Some also pretentious is this
- 41:27whole thing of like, oh well music, I listen, to is an in the
- 41:30charts and stuff, but it's right, you just Discover it, I
- 41:33know you discover it for you like, right?
- 41:35Playlists or whatever, you know. It's but doesn't that make it
- 41:39makes such a special connection to that music because nobody
- 41:44likes it and then you get all your friends to listen to it and
- 41:47then like, like, like I hate I hate to bring this up.
- 41:50I feel like I bring it up all the time but of course, Greta
- 41:53Van Fleet, you know, they're not really on the radio.
- 41:56Yes, they're popular now. They're popular, you know?
- 41:58But I remember like hearing one of their songs and I immediately
- 42:03texted my brother because me and my brother We're raised on
- 42:05classic rock and I'm like is this not Elton John mixed with
- 42:10Led Zeppelin mixed with Aerosmith.
- 42:13Like is this not everything we were raised on smashed into one
- 42:18band is this not that? And sure enough my brother loves
- 42:23them and we love them together and like that's just such a you
- 42:27know you discover I just happened upon it one day and now
- 42:32it's become this Like huge part of like it's very near and dear
- 42:39to my heart that band and gym and you know it wasn't I didn't
- 42:44hear it on the radio you know I just happened upon the song and
- 42:48I happened upon a one of the cord and I think it was like an
- 42:52instrumental and I was like that that chord structure right
- 42:55there, what is that? And then I was like, okay, time
- 43:00out, I got to get in, let me in when I grew up I was a huge Huge
- 43:05classic rock fan, you know, rinse the first for Zeppelin
- 43:09albums, doors albums, you name it.
- 43:12And I remember the first time I had been around Fleet as like
- 43:14hang on a second right. Hang on a second.
- 43:19Yeah. What is this?
- 43:20And it's not the first band that's ever existed.
- 43:23That's done like a right. I do want to say like a Pastiche
- 43:27or let's say a sound alike because I was a big fan of rival
- 43:31sons and yes they've got But they're still quite unique.
- 43:36Whereas I feel like greater than Fleet, like, I've seen them get
- 43:40frustrated about the fact that people draw comparisons to
- 43:43Zeppelin so much, but it's like the thing is, they sound so much
- 43:49like them and I don't think people necessarily are comparing
- 43:51them to be difficult or be like, oh, you're copying them all
- 43:54over. Some people would say that but
- 43:56right, I don't think they are. I think it's just that when you
- 43:58use those chord progressions, when you do those to me it just
- 44:02sounds like They're picking up where Zeppelin left off kind of
- 44:07thing, right. But I know that a lot of people
- 44:10hate that, but because I personally think that their most
- 44:14recent album, I don't feel like it's very, like, Led Zeppelin
- 44:19copy. Like I feel good that learning
- 44:22like fresh. Yeah, exactly.
- 44:23Of course, our new stuff like, I can see where people are coming
- 44:26from, but everybody's so mad about that, you know, and I
- 44:29don't, I don't want to make this whole podcast about Greta Van
- 44:32Fleet. The people that get mad, like,
- 44:35you love Led Zeppelin, like, why wouldn't you want somebody to
- 44:41like, carry that on and bring it into two like the new-age, like
- 44:46today? Why wouldn't you want that?
- 44:48You know, just originality augment those nice.
- 44:51The same as being in movies, I mean, okay, it's a little bit
- 44:53different in the sense that, you know, with movies, people's
- 44:57complaint generally is, if it's too out there, it sucks.
- 45:02But if it's like just a remake, Make then or do something
- 45:05original, right? So you could damned if you do
- 45:07damned if you don't. I think the problem never get
- 45:09enough. I do either way, you know,
- 45:11there's a thing. The problem with Greta Van Fleet
- 45:13is it doesn't matter what they do.
- 45:15They will always be compared to Led Zeppelin because they just
- 45:19sound so much like them and it's I hope one day.
- 45:22I have a Trope like that, like oh no matter what she does.
- 45:25She'll always have this because I feel like that's really.
- 45:27When you make it is when you have like, you know, that's
- 45:30there's always going to be that group of people that are always
- 45:33going to be. She's always like this, but then
- 45:35you'll have this other group, that's like, know, it's so much
- 45:39more than that, you know? Like the controversy, I don't
- 45:42know. I feel like that's like when you
- 45:44really you've gotten there, you know, just having haters,
- 45:47basically, your motivators, isn't that what it's all about?
- 45:53I don't know, most of the time when I see haters online, or
- 45:56wherever I'm just like this person's hurting.
- 45:59I don't know. I don't people, come on my live
- 46:02and I'll like, call me fat or whatever and I'll be like, hey,
- 46:05everybody shush are you okay? Let's make sure this person's
- 46:08okay, are they? All right, sister tension.
- 46:10And it's, like, plz Notice Me, notice me.
- 46:13I'm the troll. But if I haven't had to deal
- 46:16with two too much, thankfully, I mean, Either way.
- 46:21I mean it I it's not going to stop me.
- 46:24It's not going to make me change the way I feel about myself or
- 46:29the way I perceive my music. You know, because I like at the
- 46:35end of the day, I know that this is an extension of me, and if
- 46:40people don't like it, people don't like me, a lot of the
- 46:43time, you know, everywhere I go. There's always going to be
- 46:46somebody that doesn't like me. So, why would I Why would I
- 46:50care? And I know it's like I'm saying
- 46:53this now and one day I'll be sad and crying about all the people
- 46:57that are saying all these mean things to me and I'll have my
- 47:00moment of sadness. I'll have my moment of like,
- 47:03boohoo crying, but at the end of the day and nothing really
- 47:09matters, nothing matters. At the end of the day.
- 47:12You know, how did you learn to have that attitude?
- 47:14Because I've noticed over the years, like, it took me a while
- 47:18to get The to the point what? Because now I just don't care.
- 47:21I honestly think if you don't like me I don't give a fuck.
- 47:25But if you know what I, you know, Life's too short to give a
- 47:28shit about that, you know? And let's have actually wrong
- 47:31someone. I don't write.
- 47:33That's different. That's completely different.
- 47:34Exactly. Like just just disliking someone
- 47:36because a lot of times it's just like people dislike you for no
- 47:39reason but I just don't like this about you.
- 47:41I don't like your Vibe or whatever fucking it's like okay
- 47:44fine. But like right.
- 47:47Because you'll cross people will that you'll have an interaction
- 47:49with. And you're just like, I'm not a
- 47:51fan, you know? And I won't ever say that,
- 47:55unless it was that one guy who was like, Lord, would you like
- 47:58me? I'll be like, reasons a b and c
- 48:01because you asked a pencil, you know, let me pull my receipts
- 48:09real fast. I've actually been recording
- 48:11this conversation, sir. No just kidding, but yeah, like
- 48:16I don't love every like I don't want to say, I don't love
- 48:20everybody. I love everybody.
- 48:22As in the sense of I will treat you with kindness and respect
- 48:25because that's what everybody deserves.
- 48:27Yeah. But like I know I'm not going to
- 48:30get along with everybody. I know that I as a person, just
- 48:36because I'm 23 years old and I've dealt with, not like, I'm
- 48:4123 years old, I'm so big and wise, but I'm old enough to know
- 48:45that I'm a very Much an acquired taste kind of person.
- 48:49Like, I am the acquired taste to people like some people, they
- 48:54just don't like me and I know it's because I'm very pal, like,
- 48:59boom, you know, and I am, this is how I am and there's no
- 49:05changing it and I'm not going to alter myself for anything or
- 49:08anyone and that's, you know, that, you know, in high school
- 49:14that was a big issue for people. In college people just didn't
- 49:18care about it. Like didn't care for it.
- 49:20So I would get sad and I would be like I'm not popular like
- 49:27what the heck like I'm missing out but then I would say that
- 49:31this like attitude of like I have to stop caring or I just
- 49:37simply don't care has really solidified in the past year
- 49:42because I've always felt like Like I didn't care but in the
- 49:48sense of I don't care and I'm mad about it, you know?
- 49:51Like I'm like whatever like whatever.
- 49:53Talk to the hand. Like whatever you're missing out
- 49:57but now I'm like so indifferent. Like I just lit like bottom
- 50:03line. Like I don't care like okay.
- 50:07Let's move on with our lives because there's just too many
- 50:09people in this world and everybody has their own paths
- 50:12and not, everybody's paths need to be aligned with each other.
- 50:15So, Why even wife or something, you know, see, it's rather have
- 50:22authentic authentic City. Other its quality over quantity.
- 50:27Are, you know? I agree.
- 50:28If you put anything ever bothers me is like, like, sometimes I'll
- 50:31be like working somewhere. Or I remember, I was doing
- 50:33volunteering by year or two back, and there's just like some
- 50:36woman who clearly didn't like me and we never spoke.
- 50:40And here's the thing. Like I remember, Saying good
- 50:43morning like every morning for like a week and just nothing and
- 50:49eventually as I'll fuck you, then I won't.
- 50:51And then, you know, cool because like, I'm not gonna just like,
- 50:55if you never get above him, look at a reciprocating, right?
- 50:58And then it was just always awkward after that.
- 51:01And I'm just thinking to myself, like, what is this like what
- 51:03does this even mean? Like, because the thing is it be
- 51:07fine. It'd be so much cooler.
- 51:08If like the people that, you know, you just don't click with.
- 51:11There's this like a Unspoken mutual agreement to just be
- 51:15severe. Right?
- 51:16You know me as opposed to like I don't like you for no reason so
- 51:21therefore every time we're in a room together it has to be
- 51:23awkward or like this tension. Yeah like a group situation.
- 51:27It's like I agree. That's a sir.
- 51:31Yeah. But you know it's because
- 51:33there's sour and bitter people out there that you can't do
- 51:38anything, all you can do is just wish them the best and Hope.
- 51:42That they get their act together because I would hate to live a
- 51:49life where I'm just bitter to somebody for no.
- 51:53Like I have these made up crazy reasons in my head and I'll live
- 51:56by them and I'll allow tension tension in my life like that's
- 52:01going to give you wrinkles and gray hair.
- 52:03Why like why not just Peace out, you know, and not half, like,
- 52:10not put like brainpower towards it.
- 52:14You know what I mean? Because I feel like a lot of
- 52:17these, like, the, the people that you're talking about.
- 52:19I know exactly who you're talking about, and it's like,
- 52:22like your Wasting so much of your energy on this right now,
- 52:30when you could be like, putting that energy towards something
- 52:34good like like a friendship, you know, like that's like, we don't
- 52:40have unlimited energy. We get burnt out like we as
- 52:43humans or whatever. And that's what they're choosing
- 52:46to. It's like money.
- 52:47Like that's what they're choosing to spend that on.
- 52:50Is hate and sourness. You know, but and I was a very
- 52:57sour bitter person like I said before, like I would be like, oh
- 53:01like oh you don't like me and I would be like upset and mad, you
- 53:06know, and I would choose the bitterness.
- 53:09But like I just tried one day, like, let me just try to be like
- 53:15that peaceful hippie girl, that I've always wanted to be and I
- 53:20was like, oh, I sleep so much better.
- 53:23I I feel cleaner. Does that make sense?
- 53:27Like I feel cleaner like cleaner.
- 53:30And is that a more clean as what I should say?
- 53:32If I'm being grammatically? Correct, but I feel more clean
- 53:37and light and brighter. Like I feel like me as a person
- 53:44was a lot bright brighter if that makes sense.
- 53:47Again, I know this is sounding very hippy dippy and I apologize
- 53:52but And I always describe myself as a modern-day appearance,
- 53:57right? Exactly.
- 53:58It's very own brand for me, but no, but yeah, like, why wouldn't
- 54:02you want to feel like why wouldn't you want to feel that
- 54:05that way? And like, don't get me wrong.
- 54:07I gotta have my days where I'm, I'll allow myself to feel that
- 54:11grungy sourness, but I'll keep it to myself.
- 54:14And just be like, oh, like today is just going to be one of those
- 54:17days where I'll allow myself to have those feelings, you know?
- 54:22Because those You get frustrated and you're going to get mad and
- 54:26you're going to get ticked off and stuff like that.
- 54:29But don't wish, like that's just part of the human experience.
- 54:34It is like feeling those emotions and everything, so
- 54:36don't wish them away but let them come.
- 54:39And then let them pass don't live in them because like I
- 54:42said, I lived in them and I feel like that was also a reason why
- 54:46people weren't liking me is because I was living in that.
- 54:50Mindset of just being sour but now it's I don't give it too but
- 54:57I don't give it to anymore. It's just cuz also you.
- 55:04I'm not saying that life is a simulation, but if you view it
- 55:07in a simulation, it's so it's so much easier.
- 55:10It's so much easier also. Like it, nothing matters.
- 55:15Like the simulink, you're like, oh it's a simulation.
- 55:18Nothing really matters in the grand scheme of things.
- 55:20So I'm just going to do what I want to do and be who I want to
- 55:23be because Like like to round it right back around.
- 55:28So what we were talking about earlier just like you had like
- 55:31the society's timeline, you know, it's a simulation you
- 55:35don't even have to do it, you know, you don't have to, they're
- 55:39going to push you to do it, but you don't have to What are you
- 55:45disagreeing? What kind of like I get your
- 55:48point, but it wouldn't be me if I didn't pick and prod, right?
- 55:54See in it to each their own. Exactly.
- 55:57This is The Inquisitor me. I think increased is right and
- 56:00wrong word. Be curious side of me.
- 56:02There you go. Like, I don't know.
- 56:05Do you not feel that like, unless To a certain degree, you
- 56:10have to kind of acquiesced certain things in society, do
- 56:13you feel that way? I mean I for example like like
- 56:16laws and things. Well yeah but like I mean, more
- 56:18kind of like okay? Like I needed?
- 56:21I need money. Oh yeah.
- 56:22Yeah, no. Absolutely right to a sense and
- 56:26that's why I'm saying I don't like believe it is a simulation.
- 56:28I just think like if you have that kind of like back mindset
- 56:32like, hmm. It's a lot like life turns to be
- 56:35a lot more fun. Like it turns into more fun
- 56:38rather. Than a chore like it's a
- 56:40simulation. I'm not going to care about
- 56:42everything. This is the dream that I have
- 56:44and I'm going to do everything that I can to achieve that dream
- 56:48and I don't have to give it up you know, because everybody's
- 56:50telling me that I have to give it up and I don't have to live
- 56:53this like bitter Karen life. I mean, I'm a, I'm a white
- 56:58woman. Like the only future, I have the
- 57:01society is pushing on me is a Karen and I don't want that, you
- 57:04know. I don't want to grow up into
- 57:06that. That's what I got.
- 57:08That's that's what I have to look forward to.
- 57:10I see these old white ladies and I'm like, please, anything, but
- 57:15that anything, but that, why do you think there's so many people
- 57:18out there that tell us not to follow our dreams?
- 57:22That is a good question. The conspiracy theory side of me
- 57:28is because they just don't want us to be happy, they want us to,
- 57:32they want us to work like little ants in an ant farm, but I just
- 57:37think that Sometimes. When you have a dream and you go
- 57:47for it and it doesn't work, you could literally like quite
- 57:52literally end up on the streets and you could just run your life
- 57:57into the ground and if it doesn't work out which you know,
- 58:01not everything will work out, you know.
- 58:05Like if you put all your eggs into one basket, like there's a
- 58:08high chance that you could get hurt in like if it And if you
- 58:15put all your bets in one place and you lose like that's like a
- 58:19financial recovery that is going to be hard to make.
- 58:22So I think it's a the reason why the whole don't try to follow
- 58:26your dreams. Be a realist, be realistic.
- 58:29It's because it is a realistic and more.
- 58:32It's the, you know, Pocahontas, the movie, you know, when she's
- 58:37like in the the Just Around the Riverbend part where she's like,
- 58:42should I choose the smoothest? Course, steady as the beating
- 58:45drum, or or do you still wait for me?
- 58:49Dream, Giver Just Around the Riverbend.
- 58:51And she's like, literally, in a fork in the river, and there's
- 58:54just a steady stream, and then a crazy like a river Rapids.
- 58:59And she chooses the River Rapids.
- 59:02I feel like that is a choice that we're all everybody has to
- 59:07go to through that, you know, because everybody has some sort
- 59:10of dream, but The smoothest course, is the safest one.
- 59:15And of course, Society is going to won't I say Society.
- 59:18But like it's not even just that.
- 59:21But like, your parents and your family and your friends are
- 59:24going to encourage you to choose the safe path because they want
- 59:27to see you succeed. That's like almost guaranteed
- 59:31quote, unquote success, you know, as in, I say success.
- 59:36But I mean like there's a chance of failure, you know, it's just
- 59:43Review is just painful to hear it because it's just like, you
- 59:47know, I've had these kind of conversations, family, people.
- 59:51I know, and it's like the what if I've learned anything in
- 59:54life, it's to not listen to those people that tell you not
- 59:57to do stuff just ignore those fucking people.
- 1:00:01Right? Right, because you and I know
- 1:00:04that you're the same like the reason why we're pursuing what
- 1:00:07we're pursuing right now is because we feel in our bones,
- 1:00:11like we can do it. Like, do you not feel in your
- 1:00:16bones? Like I know that of course
- 1:00:18there's like going to be a voice in the back of your head.
- 1:00:20That's like, oh, like oh you're really doing it, are you sure?
- 1:00:24But like, yeah, exactly. But you obviously, you're
- 1:00:28pursuing it and you're really putting time and effort to it.
- 1:00:31Like what we're doing right now. We feel in our bones like we can
- 1:00:35do it, you know. So why wouldn't we at least try
- 1:00:39for me? It's that feeling for me it's
- 1:00:41more than that though. I'd like I've I've done the
- 1:00:44whole corporate thing. I did the whole trying to have a
- 1:00:48job and you know what? It may be fucking miss Remar,
- 1:00:52exactly. Like I said, I seen a do this
- 1:00:55and never get anywhere. Then yeah.
- 1:00:58Work nine to five for the rest of my life cash out at like 60
- 1:01:03and just died a year later. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:01:07What a life, you know, because you had a good time and you
- 1:01:11know, that when when you're Taking your last breath.
- 1:01:14Your, you know that you did the best that you could and you did
- 1:01:17what you wanted to do, you know. Mmm.
- 1:01:21So it matter. Yeah.
- 1:01:24Because and that's another thing is, if I do fail, like, you
- 1:01:28know, there because there's, of course, always the chance.
- 1:01:31There's always the one reality where you fail, I guess.
- 1:01:34And if that's where I'm at, and I get to that point and I
- 1:01:38failed, I, of course, will mourn over the failure.
- 1:01:42But I know that I did everything that I could to achieve what I
- 1:01:50wanted and in that sense, I would be fine.
- 1:01:59I would be fine. The world can hate me.
- 1:02:01Like what? They did to Rebecca Black when
- 1:02:03she released Friday, but I know like I did it and they didn't
- 1:02:08like it and that's fine. You know, they didn't like it, I
- 1:02:11wasn't well received and that's okay.
- 1:02:14I did, I did it, you know, so they can put me in the ground
- 1:02:19knowing that I did what I wanted to do.
- 1:02:21I guess hopefully that's not anytime soon, but yeah.
- 1:02:25What a queer either. Yeah, let's put that on the
- 1:02:30tumbler cup. So that on Etsy, oh my God.
- 1:02:37Okay, I want to kind of just take it back to the beginning
- 1:02:41and just kind of asked about how you sort of initially got into
- 1:02:45music and into becoming a fruit pie.
- 1:02:47Why did you just decide to become a free player?
- 1:02:49Like, what did that start? I actually wanted to be a
- 1:02:53violinist or a List. But I didn't get put in
- 1:02:58Orchestra. When I was in Middle School, I
- 1:03:01got put in band class and I showed up on the first day and
- 1:03:05they handed me a piece of paper that said this is your choice of
- 1:03:09three instruments and it was flute clarinet and saxophone
- 1:03:12they said put a number and rate which one you want to play first
- 1:03:18and then like put them in order and my mom played flute in high
- 1:03:24school or middle school. School.
- 1:03:25So I was like I guess flu-like out of out of flute clarinet and
- 1:03:29saxophone like I liked flew the most and then I came in the next
- 1:03:33day and they're like, here's there was like names on the
- 1:03:36seats like a seating chart and I was sat in the flute section so
- 1:03:40I did not pick up a flu until we went to the rental store.
- 1:03:45Like I'd never seen a flute in real life like as a conscious
- 1:03:49being. Like I remember being at the
- 1:03:52like the rental place the music they in It Rental place and I
- 1:03:57opened up the case and I'm like, Mom, like how do you put this
- 1:04:00together? Like, I don't even know what
- 1:04:01because he's, you know, it's in the case.
- 1:04:03I'm like I don't even know how to put this together.
- 1:04:05I've never even seen because I know like in a lot of middle
- 1:04:07schools, they'll have a day where you come and you try all
- 1:04:11the instruments and you see which one, you know, appeals to
- 1:04:14you. The most know, they just sat me
- 1:04:16down and said, you're playing the flute and I was like,
- 1:04:19whatever. But here we are 13, 13 years
- 1:04:22later, I was in piano. Piano lessons, when I was in
- 1:04:26like kindergarten though. I got like a on my sixth
- 1:04:29birthday. Santa brought me a keyboard.
- 1:04:33So and that's where I found out that I could play by ear because
- 1:04:39I would plug in the keyboard and then it would be like a I used
- 1:04:43to watch Reba a lot when I was little and I like would play the
- 1:04:46Reba theme song on my piano and I would like, like little me at
- 1:04:51this point. I would, I vividly like it's
- 1:04:54probably Seven years old, 7 or 8?
- 1:04:57And I had like, my big keyboard and I like brought it to my
- 1:05:00mom's room while she was watching TV.
- 1:05:01And I like, sat on the ground, I was like, I got to play
- 1:05:04something for you, and I plugged it in and I played the Riva
- 1:05:07theme song. Or I played the chords from
- 1:05:11oblah diablada by The Beatles. So and I great song and I was
- 1:05:17like here, like Mom, look, look at this.
- 1:05:19And she's like, good job, and it wasn't until I got it.
- 1:05:23She's like nice. Nice.
- 1:05:26It wasn't until I got in high school when I was starting to
- 1:05:28talk to people and I'm like, hey play this song with me, play the
- 1:05:31song with me. Like with.
- 1:05:34Like my flute friends are like my clarinet friends and they
- 1:05:37were like, where's the words of sheet music?
- 1:05:39I'm like, no, no, no, just play it.
- 1:05:41Let's go. Come on and they're like, no,
- 1:05:44like it. We need music and I'll talk to
- 1:05:46my mom about. I was like, do you know like
- 1:05:47people actually need music to play stuff?
- 1:05:51Like, do you know that it's not just like they can just do it
- 1:05:54because at this Boy, I've been playing it like everything like
- 1:05:58anything, you know like with a Melody I can pretty.
- 1:06:01I could do at that point. But yeah, so and then we were
- 1:06:05like, okay, wait a minute, we I have something here so that's
- 1:06:10I'm very, very thankful that I can do that.
- 1:06:13Okay, I'm I'm halfway, illiterate can't do math.
- 1:06:17Barely could get through High School classes without extra
- 1:06:20credit. But dang, dang.
- 1:06:23Can I play a song on the radio? You know what I mean?
- 1:06:26I feel like it's like with those creatives.
- 1:06:28Our brains are hard-wired that a different way because same as
- 1:06:31you, I am useless at maths. I don't even try.
- 1:06:35But when it comes to music like a got natural timing, find it
- 1:06:38easier just make sense. Yeah, just it's just like oh no
- 1:06:41problem. Yes, it's weird.
- 1:06:43Like when I hear people discuss having difficulties with
- 1:06:46creativity, I'm like really, they're like, I couldn't say I
- 1:06:50can play a musical instrument instrument, to save my life.
- 1:06:53And I went through a, I went through a phase Period of my
- 1:06:55life where I got. I asked for a different
- 1:06:58instrument, every Christmas and I would learn it by the next
- 1:07:00week after I got it Christmas. Like I feel like once you learn
- 1:07:06for me personally, it was like, once I learned one, like, I was
- 1:07:10good. Like I understood the theory of
- 1:07:12instruments, like, my in high school.
- 1:07:15My flute instructor was also a harpist.
- 1:07:21So, one one, one year I for the Christmas concert or Christmas
- 1:07:27recital, I came into my, like a month prior.
- 1:07:32I said, hey Monica, I want to surprise my parents and play
- 1:07:36harp at the recital and I did it like I just did it, you know, I
- 1:07:41played harp for the first like, little section of the piece and
- 1:07:44I picked up my flute and played flute for the second half and I
- 1:07:47was like, hey, Mom, Dad. Like, I got a surprise at the
- 1:07:50recital tonight and I just like, I played my, of course I played
- 1:07:54like my, Repertoire that I sat back down and I was the Monica,
- 1:07:58my instructor new like it was a surprise.
- 1:08:01So she made it the finale. Oh, cool.
- 1:08:03And which is so, yeah, great. So like I got up with my flute
- 1:08:08and then I sat down at the harp and it was like, oh, like
- 1:08:11everybody. Like is so funny because it but
- 1:08:14you know it's the same as everything else.
- 1:08:16Like it's like a piano like you can see it.
- 1:08:19It's just the same. So yeah, learning different
- 1:08:22instruments and everything but can I Read.
- 1:08:25No. Have I when I type in the
- 1:08:28numbers at checkout, do I charge everybody?
- 1:08:31The wrong price because it's around the numbers.
- 1:08:33Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 1:08:35But dang, do I know some music? You know?
- 1:08:38I don't know. I'm like, I don't know.
- 1:08:41I just I'm just so silly. I don't know.
- 1:08:43Like I'm just so I'm just so quirky and different.
- 1:08:46I think it just kind of. Yeah.
- 1:08:48Like I said before it's just different parts of the brain may
- 1:08:52be different ways of functioning.
- 1:08:54Right pops. Yeah.
- 1:08:57Because there's like left brain and right brain type stuff.
- 1:08:59Who knows? Yeah.
- 1:09:00Yeah it's cool. So I'm grateful for it.
- 1:09:04Yeah. Still kind of wish that I got
- 1:09:06put an orchestra though it was because Eleanor Rigby you know
- 1:09:10has like that string quartet and I was like that's what I want.
- 1:09:13That's what I want. They're like no band.
- 1:09:16No you're going to be a band kid.
- 1:09:17Sorry I'm like thanks thanks Middle School, Registrar's
- 1:09:21Office, thanks re altered my entire Life right there, and for
- 1:09:26you on your, on your website. It says that you draw
- 1:09:33inspiration from nature. Could you expand on this?
- 1:09:38Absolutely. Do you like, you know, the
- 1:09:44feeling okay. Do you ever go outside and just
- 1:09:51kind of like you feel you can like when you're in like the
- 1:09:54mountains or something like that or you're outside and you can
- 1:09:57hear the breeze coming, like you can hear the gust of wind coming
- 1:10:00through the trees before it kind of like washes over you and then
- 1:10:04it's just like that. Crisp, fresh air on your skin.
- 1:10:09That At like I don't know if it's much like pulling
- 1:10:14inspiration from nature as in, I hear the noises of Nature and I
- 1:10:18try to replicate that as like when I'm surrounded by Nature.
- 1:10:22It puts me in such a good headspace that I feel like I can
- 1:10:30like I feel like my most authentic self especially since
- 1:10:34moving here to Las Vegas. So I used to live here when I
- 1:10:37was younger, when my dad my dad. Retired military.
- 1:10:42And we were stationed here. When I was in elementary school
- 1:10:44and middle school, this is where I first started playing the
- 1:10:46flute since I've moved back there, is it sits in a valley so
- 1:10:51there's mountains all over and there's a Mount Charleston.
- 1:10:55Charleston Peak. It's like 40 minutes from my
- 1:10:58house. Every week since I've been here,
- 1:11:00I've gone up to the mountains because it's the, it's not
- 1:11:05humid, it's like 20 degrees colder up there and it's exactly
- 1:11:10like that just most natural authentic feeling that I can
- 1:11:16possibly put myself in and I this morning when I got off
- 1:11:20this. So when I work graveyard, I get
- 1:11:24off at 6:00 a.m. and I go up to the parking garage and we have
- 1:11:27to park on the top of the parking garage and the Sun is
- 1:11:30just barely coming up as I get off.
- 1:11:32So usually since I've been working, it's been I will get my
- 1:11:37car immediately and go home or I'll take a cat nap in my Car
- 1:11:40and then go home because I'm too tired.
- 1:11:42But today I had like a second wind that came and I just sat on
- 1:11:47the edge of the parking garage like I just, you know, stood
- 1:11:49there and watched the sun come up over the mountains.
- 1:11:52And I was like, I I tried to take pictures and videos of it,
- 1:11:55but it absolutely would not capture it.
- 1:11:57And I'm like this, is it like this is like I never thought
- 1:12:01that. I like I always felt close to
- 1:12:04Nature like That, like, when I was, of course, like, when I was
- 1:12:09in nature, like, I like I said authentic, but like, I had the
- 1:12:12realization this morning that like, like, no, like I'm
- 1:12:16actually I feel like, just looking at it from a distance.
- 1:12:19I'm like that is I want to be there, you know.
- 1:12:23So I feel like I said, my flute in my music is an extension of
- 1:12:30myself. And I just like, when I go out,
- 1:12:35like I don't know if you've watched any of my recent kind of
- 1:12:37videos, but I recently went up into the mountains and brought
- 1:12:41my aunt and my mic and just play it into into the mountains.
- 1:12:45And it was the noise was ricocheting off the mountains,
- 1:12:48like back and it just felt like it belonged there.
- 1:12:52Like, I felt like, wow, that is me ricocheting off of these
- 1:12:58pieces of the earth that have been there.
- 1:13:01For what billions of years. However long that the Earth has
- 1:13:04been around and that's like I'm what I am manifest like not
- 1:13:09manifesting but like I guess manifesting I'm breathing in
- 1:13:13air. This clean fresh air that the
- 1:13:16trees are providing like cleaning for me.
- 1:13:19I'm breathing it in and I'm breathing out.
- 1:13:23Intangible art and I'm it's ricocheting off these mountains
- 1:13:28right now. That's just the neatest thing to
- 1:13:30me. So and then when I was in
- 1:13:33Florida, I would go to the beach to I don't like the beach but
- 1:13:38it's a good place to clear your mind, you know, or just like a
- 1:13:42good drive and just kind of taking a moment to realize that
- 1:13:48even the grass and the wildflowers and the median of
- 1:13:51the highway is the Thing just like you are and there's just
- 1:13:56life all around us. That's just a great place to
- 1:14:03ground yourself before embarking on like creating if that makes
- 1:14:09sense. Hmm.
- 1:14:11So I guess that's what I mean by and taking inspiration from
- 1:14:16nature. You know, also flew kind of
- 1:14:20sounds like birds, so maybe. That's the short answer, I
- 1:14:26guess. I don't know. in the You were
- 1:14:32talking about the fact that you had grown up in a military
- 1:14:36family. Talk us through your
- 1:14:37experiences, growing up in a military family and how that
- 1:14:41shaped you as a person. I feel.
- 1:14:48Like the exposure to a lot of different cultures and ways of
- 1:14:51life rounded me a lot like I feel you know because I'm sure
- 1:14:59like every military person that you're a military brat or
- 1:15:04whatever they call them, they can never say where they're
- 1:15:06from, you know, because they're just from so many places and I
- 1:15:10think that's like each little military child that got to kind
- 1:15:16of grow up in a bunch of different areas.
- 1:15:18Has their own sense of cult-like.
- 1:15:20I don't want to say culture but kind of culture like they just
- 1:15:24pick bits and pieces. Mmm, and make their own kind of
- 1:15:27way of life. And I think that's, that's
- 1:15:30great. Because when I was in Florida, I
- 1:15:32always considered myself from Las Vegas.
- 1:15:36But now that I'm here, I'm like, no, I think I'm from Florida,
- 1:15:39but then I was like, I don't really consider myself like a
- 1:15:42Floridian, but like, Southern Hospitality, I've definitely
- 1:15:47picked that up, but the like fast-paced City Life from here
- 1:15:55is, I've picked that up as well. I lived in Dubai for a year.
- 1:16:02Yes, that was crazy. It was like an alternate
- 1:16:04Dimension. And I went to a school where I
- 1:16:06was pretty much me and my brother were the only two
- 1:16:08Americans in the entire school and my best friend was Turkish.
- 1:16:12So like getting to pick and choose what I want from what I
- 1:16:16like from those cultures There is like little like funky
- 1:16:20superstitions, or just like, oh, like in the Norwegian culture,
- 1:16:25we do this. And I'm like, you know what, I
- 1:16:27like that. That's what I'm gonna do from
- 1:16:29now on. And, like, I was born in
- 1:16:34Cambridge. So, yeah, like mildenhall, like
- 1:16:39my dad was stationed over there. That's where I was born.
- 1:16:42So, my parents, I did not live there that long but my parents,
- 1:16:46you know, they were Newlyweds. Kids over there and me and my
- 1:16:49brother, both have Irish names. Do you have to citizenship?
- 1:16:55No, I was born on American base military but I'll see.
- 1:16:58That doesn't apply. Interesting.
- 1:17:00No, I don't ya. I've got my social security card
- 1:17:03looks different than everybody else's from what I'm told.
- 1:17:07I haven't really seen. Like whenever I show it at like
- 1:17:09a job, they're like oh you were born overseas, weren't you?
- 1:17:12And I was like, yeah, I guess I guess it's a different color.
- 1:17:15I don't know. But Goes like, where was I going
- 1:17:22with that? But the, oh, so my parents love,
- 1:17:24like the European culture when they were like newlyweds, like
- 1:17:28living there. My brother's name is Patrick.
- 1:17:30We call him Patty and my name is Aaron Clare.
- 1:17:32And Clare is like counting Clare in Ireland.
- 1:17:35So, but we're I mean, I'm sure there's some sort of European
- 1:17:40blood in a somewhere but like so having those kind of European
- 1:17:46ideologies along with like Southern ideologies and then
- 1:17:50like Western ideologies you know it makes me super good at
- 1:17:54accents like I can whip a Southern accent out of nowhere,
- 1:17:57you know, if I need to, you'd be surprised how good that comes in
- 1:18:01handy, sometimes. But yeah, so military family, I
- 1:18:05think is great. It definitely takes a certain
- 1:18:08kind of kid. Like you have to push yourself a
- 1:18:10lot harder because you don't have time to waste to make
- 1:18:14friends because you just gotta up.
- 1:18:15Route and go somewhere else and you don't really want to not
- 1:18:19have friends because you don't know how long you're going to be
- 1:18:21there. So you need to just go ahead.
- 1:18:23It's definitely like I'm confidence is important but
- 1:18:27luckily I have that song. I've been fine.
- 1:18:30Would you say the biggest lessons you've learned through
- 1:18:32traveling? The spot life.
- 1:18:37Yeah, I just I think that's where a lot of the foundations
- 1:18:44of like respect in my childhood came from.
- 1:18:47It's like learning to respect other cultures and that just,
- 1:18:52because you're in somebody else's, like, you're in somebody
- 1:18:56else's territory, all the time. So you have to be respectful of
- 1:19:01the other cultures and everything especially like
- 1:19:02living in Dubai. There's like a dress.
- 1:19:05Like a nationwide dress code. So you know, so and then while
- 1:19:10we were in Dubai we took a couple of like European trips
- 1:19:13because it's like right there, it's not as difficult from going
- 1:19:17from America to Europe. So just kind of learning that
- 1:19:23we're like The Spectators on the side and we just get to kind of
- 1:19:29respect and absorb the culture. It that's what I feel.
- 1:19:33Like I've learned a lot from travel is like just kind of
- 1:19:38being able to step back and recognize the differences and
- 1:19:43like how I act and how other people act and how to not think.
- 1:19:49Oh, that's stupid because that's not how I act Champa.
- 1:19:54Be like that's neat because that's like what I think is
- 1:19:58common and I absolutely don't think it's common and they
- 1:20:01probably think how I act is also super strange.
- 1:20:05So but like instead of judging it celebrating it, you know, I
- 1:20:12think that's something great and you get to see like looking at
- 1:20:15different places is really cool like just the ecosystems and
- 1:20:21stuff like that, you know? Like Zermatt Switzerland is
- 1:20:25hands-down so far the prettiest place I've ever been because the
- 1:20:30air smelled better there and then like the water was cleaner.
- 1:20:36It tasted different in a good way and the plants Just like
- 1:20:42they grew more green there, you know, compared to like other
- 1:20:46dingy places that I've been, but yeah, just getting too kind of
- 1:20:52you definitely. How do you say this?
- 1:20:55You definitely learn to keep your eyes peeled a lot more when
- 1:21:00you are brought up in travel. Because if you, Are like you
- 1:21:05have like a one track mind. You don't experience nearly the
- 1:21:08same amount of stuff, you know? I mean Yeah, amazing stuff.
- 1:21:15Thanks. It's the best advice you've ever
- 1:21:18received. Oh, shoot.
- 1:21:23That's a good question and I feel like I have so many
- 1:21:27answers. Vitamin C.
- 1:21:29Take Vitamin C. That's the best advice that you
- 1:21:31can take. You know, stay up on your
- 1:21:34vitamins if I run the best advice.
- 1:21:38Ya gotta look after sir. Yeah, it's like an hour from
- 1:21:43now. I'll be like an Instagram story
- 1:21:49about it be like, hey, this is good advice that I remember, But
- 1:21:53like, yeah, that's the first thing that came to my head is
- 1:21:56take your vitamin C. Let's try a slightly different
- 1:22:00one, but similar Vibe. What's the biggest life lesson
- 1:22:03you've learned so far? Another, another hard one life
- 1:22:09lesson. I feel like it's going to be
- 1:22:20similar to what I was talking about earlier and just like just
- 1:22:24like be a nicer person and stuff like that's probably the night
- 1:22:27because I feel like I've been in a lot of situations where My
- 1:22:33actions turned around to bite me in the butt real hard and just
- 1:22:39like to learn that. It's not all about you.
- 1:22:41All the time is that was like a good life lesson, I guess.
- 1:22:47Like keep to your like, keep to yourself, but also at the same
- 1:22:52time, like don't be self-absorbed with yourself, you
- 1:22:55know, I think that was like a good life lesson.
- 1:23:00I have a very sweet best friend named Katie, and I learn so much
- 1:23:07from that lady. She is.
- 1:23:10She's younger than me. I say lady like she's older.
- 1:23:13She's like the most patient and kind person I've ever met Well,
- 1:23:18I don't want to say ever met because my great grandma may she
- 1:23:20rest in peace was definitely the sweetest.
- 1:23:24Most gracious kind person I've ever met but like peer wise,
- 1:23:28she's like top-notch human and just like being friends with her
- 1:23:33over the years. I owe so much of my patients
- 1:23:37that I have today and the kindness and respect that I have
- 1:23:40from people. Just from observing the way that
- 1:23:43she treats other people, you know, I I feel like my bull,
- 1:23:49like, I'm just naturally a selfish person and I have to put
- 1:23:54brain power and like, energy towards being selfless, hmm,
- 1:24:00unfortunately, but being friends with her and just observing the
- 1:24:05way that she is just like, so selfless to the point where it's
- 1:24:10almost a flaw like she'll gift. She'll have plans for herself
- 1:24:14and she'll have her priorities but She will drop everything if
- 1:24:19someone is in need in that like just seeing that time and time.
- 1:24:24And again, over the years, I absolutely tried to take as much
- 1:24:29as I can and learn as much as I can from her.
- 1:24:33So, sad. Shout out to her.
- 1:24:35She's great, she's a great woman, but she's, I would say
- 1:24:38that my friendship with her, was a good life lesson.
- 1:24:42She's awesome. So yeah, but I'll probably have
- 1:24:46to call her after this. I'm miss her dearly.
- 1:24:48She's back in Florida. But yeah, all selflessness.
- 1:24:53I guess it's a good life lesson that I've learned.
- 1:24:58As we draw things to a close for today, do you have any upcoming
- 1:25:01projects or some final thoughts that you'd like to share with
- 1:25:03our listeners? I do actually.

- 1:25:25Like I said, I just launched my patreon.
- 1:25:27Bit ago, and she's just about there's like four tiers and the
- 1:25:32there's three like basic tiers but then there's like a music
- 1:25:34mentorship tear as well for, like other musicians and other
- 1:25:40like, people that want to kind of learn how to perfect their
- 1:25:44ear a little bit here. A little bit better and
- 1:25:48improvise like improvisation and taking a more creative free
- 1:25:53approach to like technique and stuff like that.
- 1:25:57So, that's That's patreons been launched.
- 1:25:59That was like the most recent thing.
- 1:26:00I did something that I'm announcing probably today is I'm
- 1:26:05going to and I'm going to talk about Greta Van Fleet again, I
- 1:26:10apologize, but I'm going to Florida in a couple weeks and
- 1:26:14I'm going to follow them on tour on all their Florida shows
- 1:26:17because they have for Florida shows and I play outside of
- 1:26:22their shows and what they had a show in West Virginia and August
- 1:26:25and I did that and I played out. Side for people that like a
- 1:26:28little mini concert, what for the people, camping out for
- 1:26:32general admission. So I'm following them on tour
- 1:26:35and I'm playing outside because a lot of my followers are fans
- 1:26:38of theirs as well, because I do a lot of their stuff.
- 1:26:40So yeah, so if anybody's going to those Florida shows they're
- 1:26:45in for a little treat, some entertainment, you know?
- 1:26:49That's my, my announcement that's probably going to happen
- 1:26:53today, but yeah. Excellent.
- 1:26:56Well cited. Yeah.

- 1:27:26during the midst of the conversation.
