- 0:00Speaker 1: My wife and I have talked about that.
- 0:01Speaker 2: We think he kind of surrendered into it a little quickly,
- 0:03so maybe something was going on there.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, he is a rock star.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And this is another guy whose hair is amazed you.
- 0:11Right when you look at the three guys from Ambrosia, right,
- 0:14all four of them press off. Ambrosia sounds like it's
- 0:16one person. No, it's it's it's a bad it's a
- 0:20bad from the seventies and eighties. And they're performing in
- 0:25Arlington tomorrow and since Linda and I had to go
- 0:27up to the Dallas Forward area anyway, and they're performing
- 0:31at the Arlington Music Hall, which is kind of like
- 0:33going to the Paramount here. It's a small venue, a theater.
- 0:37And she said, oh look, I was like, you want
- 0:41to go to see Ambrosia? She said, because I'm a
- 0:45yacht rock fan, although Ambrosia is not my favorite, but
- 0:48I don't dislike.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Them, so she was interested in him.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So I said, okay, so we got tickets, so we're
- 0:54gonna go see Ambrosia tomorrow night.
- 0:56Speaker 1: That's part of it. So that's why I wanted. That's exciting.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We see a lot of shows together since We've been
- 1:03together since twenty eighteen. And my first wife she also
- 1:11liked musically. We went to some concerts together, and next
- 1:16week will be eight years since she passed away, so
- 1:21and then I was two years beyond that before Lynda
- 1:27and I bumped into each other at an event going
- 1:29to see that we went to see an old friend
- 1:32play and as the first time I'd seen her in
- 1:35I think since nineteen ninety four, so it's been like, yeah,
- 1:40I think it was twenty six years or twenty four years,
- 1:44twenty whatever. It was twenty four years, I guess, since
- 1:46we'd even seen each other or something like that. And
- 1:52then it just kind of took off from there. And
- 1:54we had dated back in the early eighties for about
- 1:56a year and a half, split up state friends. She
- 1:58was at my wedding, I was, Me and my wife
- 2:01were at her wedding in ninety four. She and her
- 2:05husband had decided to divorce, and then I just happened
- 2:09to randomly run into her and it started from there well,
- 2:13once we got together, and then when she moved down here.
- 2:16Because she's a special ed counselor and I was also
- 2:19a licensed professional counselor, so she has a client list
- 2:24that she counsels does mental health counseling. We started going
- 2:31to these concerts, and it was because I had gotten
- 2:36to the point of my life where there were some
- 2:37people that I had and bands and artists I either
- 2:41had never seen before and always wanted to or wanted
- 2:44to see, or it was a band or artist that
- 2:50in my college days in the early eighties, I worked
- 2:53the concerts, selling T shirts for the band or for
- 2:56the arena.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And I did that for.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Four years and in the early eighties, and so I
- 3:04used to tell people that have worked everything from ac
- 3:06DC to Lawrence Welk, which was pretty much true. I
- 3:09would worked a c d C concert and worked Prince worked,
- 3:12Prince Yeah, Prince wow Right. It was the Purple Rain tour.
- 3:16Wow went on to her journey in eighty three in
- 3:21the Frontiers tour, worked Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow, worked All
- 3:26Kazzy Top, all Met Doobie Brothers, Rolling Stones, all of these,
- 3:32all of these great bands, Bob Seeger so did all these.
- 3:36And now years later, having put myself through college by
- 3:41working those shows, I wanted to have the opportunity to
- 3:45see some of these because when you're working it you
- 3:46don't really you see glimpses of the show. You walk
- 3:49in during a song, they walk back out to your
- 3:51stand while your partner watches the stand, and then you
- 3:54swap off. So I wanted to see some so I
- 3:57just happened to mention because my broadcast partner for Long
- 4:00Worn Basketball, Eddie Orrin, and we were going to go
- 4:03see Bob Seger, who was on his last tour. And
- 4:07then Eddie couldn't do it he had a work related conflict.
- 4:11So Linda and I by then had started to see
- 4:14each other, and I said, do you want to go
- 4:16see this concert? It's Bob Seeger And She's like, yeah,
- 4:19I'll go. She didn't, and then when she went, she
- 4:21loved it. She said, oh I remember that song, and
- 4:22oh I remember that song, and oh I remember that song.
- 4:25I said, I got a whole file folder of shows
- 4:29like that that I want to see coming up.
- 4:31Speaker 1: If you're up for it. She said yeah. So then
- 4:32it became Eric Clapton while we went to that.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Then we saw a little River band in a casino
- 4:39then and then saw Boss Gags at the Paramount. She
- 4:49gave me as a Christmas present because she knew how
- 4:51much of a Billy Joel fan was and she was
- 4:53somewhat of a fan. She gave me two tickets to
- 4:55see Billy Joel at Fenway Park at Yeah, so I said,
- 4:59I said, it was a Christmas gift, she said, and
- 5:03opened it up. Two tickets Bill Joseah, Wow, Can I
- 5:05take anybody? She says, as long as I'm the other Anyway.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I was just joking. So we went.
- 5:10Speaker 2: We saw Billy Joel there and and so we've seen
- 5:15a lot of concerts. It's the old Master, Herb Albert,
- 5:19who is eighty nine years old and still touring. We
- 5:23saw him last year. I've seen it, seen him a
- 5:25couple of times. Play that trumpet is great. That's what
- 5:28all the music are inconceivable. It's Herb Alpert and Tijuana
- 5:31brass stuff. So we've seen a lot of concerts. And
- 5:36I even had tickets for Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks
- 5:40at Jerry World in Arlington. Couldn't go because one of
- 5:43Stevie Nicks's band members had COVID and so they postponed
- 5:47the show, and when they rescheduled the show, I couldn't go.
- 5:50So she went and took a friend of her. So
- 5:54I've kind of you know, pulled her into the concert thing,
- 5:56and then for her because she always wanted to see
- 6:00Joni Mitchell, one of the great rock legends of the
- 6:02early seventies. The day after The Long Words played Georgia, here,
- 6:08we're flying to Los Angeles. I'm gonna see Joni Mitchell
- 6:11at the Hollywood Bowl and then come back on a
- 6:13red eye that night, talking me back in position the
- 6:15next day when we have Sarks press conference to get
- 6:17ready for Vanderbilt.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So there's that.
- 6:19Speaker 2: So were we become big concert goers to the extent
- 6:23if we see other other bands and every things like oh, hey,
- 6:26maybe we want to go say and you know, and
- 6:29so yeah, tomorrow night it'll be Ambrosia. We'll go see
- 6:34Ambrosia tomorrow night.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Hey.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Update from Houston. The Tigers are now up one nothing
- 6:40on the Astros. As Houston bats in the bottom of
- 6:42the sixth inning. Top of the sixth inning, Parker Meadows
- 6:47with a solo homer to put Detroit in front. So
- 6:52the anxiety, you might say, for Astros fans might be
- 6:57ratcheting up a bit now, although they Jordon Alvarez is
- 7:01just trying to walk, so they have the tying run
- 7:02on and that's just the lead off the bottom of
- 7:07the sixth inning, so still a lot of baseball left
- 7:08to be played in that one. But the Asters are
- 7:11down one nothing in the sixth inning to Detroit, and
- 7:13again because the Tigers won game one yesterday, if they
- 7:19win this one this afternoon, it's over. Remember, the Wildcard
- 7:22Series is just a best of three, best two out
- 7:26of three, and it's all at one site. So these
- 7:30first two games are at Minute May Park, and if
- 7:32there is a third game, that game would be at
- 7:37Minute May Park tomorrow if that happens, if there is
- 7:41a game three, but the Asters have to win to
- 7:43force a game three. Meanwhile, Kansas City and Baltimore are
- 7:50getting ready to start game number two of their series
- 7:53that starts here really in about ten minutes. The Royals
- 7:57winning game one one to nothing, so they lead this
- 8:00he's one game to nine. Then at six thirty this
- 8:04evening or Mets and Brewers, and then at seven thirty
- 8:06tonight are the Braves and the Podres going for that.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite baseball team? By the way,
- 8:12I do? Yeah? Which one is it? Do you want
- 8:15to guess? First? Well, isn't your favorite? Did I hear.
- 8:19Speaker 2: One morning on when it was the Hard Knox Light
- 8:25before what it is now morphed into with the addition
- 8:29of Mark Henry to the program, is now the Morning Kickoff.
- 8:32But didn't I hear you say that your favorite NFL
- 8:35team is New England the Patriots?
- 8:38Speaker 1: Is correct?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Do you have a background in the New England area
- 8:45in the northeast? Did you just take did you just
- 8:47glimb onto the Patriots because it was easy to bandwagon
- 8:50them because they were winners?
- 8:52Speaker 1: No, in about fifth grade or something. Okay, so like
- 8:55two thousand and four or something like that. Yeah, make
- 8:58me feel litt Go ahead.
- 8:59Speaker 3: All my friends were playing a pee pewee football while
- 9:02I was running truck and they all played for the Patriots.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Oh okay. And then the high.
- 9:07Speaker 3: School I was supposed to go to before they rezoned everything,
- 9:10their mascot was the Patriots. I went to Google and
- 9:14I was like, oh, I wonder if there's a football
- 9:15team for the Patriots there it is.
- 9:18Speaker 2: That's might And you happen to get them right in
- 9:20their wheelhouse when they were winning Super Bowls. Yes, okay,
- 9:23all right, No, I can respect that. I respect a
- 9:27kid locking into a team. I did that with the
- 9:30Dodgers when I was a kid, because my dad used
- 9:33to tell me stories of the Yankees versus the Dodgers.
- 9:35My dad was a Yankees fan, and he went to
- 9:37a couple of World Series games in the early fifties
- 9:39when the Dodgers played the Yankees. And my favorite color
- 9:43back then when I was a kid was blue. And
- 9:45the first package of baseball cards I opened, it was
- 9:47Bill Russell, the Dodgers shortstop.
- 9:48Speaker 1: So I was locked in then. So they get that
- 9:51been forever.
- 9:53Speaker 2: You know, as kids, we tend to lock in on teams,
- 9:57but over time, I guess people get kind of frustrated
- 10:01if their teams have a stretch of losing.
- 10:03Speaker 1: That's true.
- 10:04Speaker 2: My oldest son when he was give was a Jaguars fan,
- 10:08and that was colors and logos, and they were pretty
- 10:09good back and Fred Taylor Mark Brunell had a couple
- 10:13of AFC Championship game appears.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Then he went through this long dry spell being awful.
- 10:17Speaker 2: So he just decided, I'm changing my favorite team to
- 10:19the Cowboys because I love I said, you're letting yourself
- 10:21in for a lot of heartbreak. So he became a
- 10:24Cowboy fan, and he's really a big Cowboy fan. My
- 10:29younger son was originally a Tennessee Titans fan because of
- 10:32Vince Young and but then when Vince left and the Titans
- 10:35fell off, he swapped to the Packers and he's been
- 10:39a Packer fan.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I don't know how people just switch teams like that.
- 10:42I couldn't do it. I couldn't do it.
- 10:46Speaker 2: But but I know some people get tired of a
- 10:48team losing and say I'm out on him. Why should
- 10:51I devote my energies to supporting a team that consistently lose.
- 10:57This is a question, by the way, the Cowboys fans
- 10:59ask themselves annually.
- 11:00Speaker 1: For almost thirty years.
- 11:01Speaker 2: That Cameron Parker, a producer regular producer of this program,
- 11:06is having his own self examination as a Cowboys fan.
- 11:10That's why he's not watching them this year at all,
- 11:12at allow unless they reach the NFC Championship. He watched
- 11:17him in the preseason just to see how the rosters
- 11:19come together. But he he told us after they lost
- 11:23to the Packers last January in the playoffs, he said,
- 11:26I'm done with him. I said, are you done with
- 11:27a fan? No, there's still my team. I'm done watching
- 11:31them for now. Wow, foot out the door. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 11:35So there's some self examination going on here as a
- 11:38Cowboys fan. Now, the man for whom you produce in
- 11:41the morning, Mike Hardball Harch, he's a long suffering Cowboys fan.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Correct, long time, long time, by fifty years of it. Okay,
- 11:47well that's like me with the Rams.
- 11:49Speaker 2: You know, went through a lot of Leaneers now, uh
- 11:52Kurt uh yeah, but it predates that he goes all
- 11:57the way back when I was nine years old. In
- 11:59those days, what kids used to do is we would
- 12:03write letters to pro football and baseball and basketball teams
- 12:07asking for autograph pictures if you can get them, and
- 12:09I sent off several to different teams. The only team
- 12:12that respond was the Rams, and I got this eight
- 12:15y ten black and white, glossy photo autograph the quarterback
- 12:18Roman Gabriel, a champ never quits. Rouman Gabriel probably immedia
- 12:22relations or PR person actually did that and signed his name.
- 12:26But it didn't matter. I was hooked in on the
- 12:28Rams den in nineteen sixty nine. They started that year
- 12:30eleven to oher and ended up losing in the first
- 12:32round of the playoffs. But I was hopelessly drawn into
- 12:36being a Rams fan. With through a lot of heartbreak
- 12:38in the seventies and then didn't see him win a
- 12:40Super Bowl until they were in Saint Louis. But I
- 12:42let my fandom follow the Jersey to Saint Louis actually
- 12:45win a several games in Saint Louis, including the Super
- 12:48Bowl year and then and stayed with him. And that's
- 12:53when Kurt Warner was playing for them, and then following
- 12:55him back to LA and going through some lean times
- 12:59right now, the injuries and they don't be good right now.
- 13:02Speaker 1: But you you just got yours.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I feel like, I know, hey, yeah, they won a
- 13:05Super Bowl three years ago, so I'm I'm okay for
- 13:08a while. Yeah, yeah, yeah, That's how I was with
- 13:11the Dodgers winning one in eighty eight. But I'm going
- 13:12to tell you, by the time I got the twenty twenty,
- 13:14I was like, I come on. So they finally broke
- 13:17through in one one, so hopefully they can do it
- 13:19again this year. So anyway, nothing, It's unusual when your
- 13:23favorite teams, uh, when they let you down. Is not
- 13:28unusual when they finally went And I've said this, I
- 13:31said this after the Rams win the Super Bowl.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I said after the Dodgers won the World Series.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Every sports fan, every one in the United States, every
- 13:41American sports fan who is a real dedicated fan of
- 13:47eighteen should get to experience at least one time in
- 13:50their lifetime their team winning a World championship. Oh definitely,
- 13:54you know, as a reward for that. Now, you never
- 13:56did tell me who your favorite baseball team, the Red Socks.
- 13:59Well that makes sense. And my youngest son is a
- 14:01Red Sox fan because his first two t ball teams
- 14:04and little league team were Red Sox or Red Sox.
- 14:06Speaker 1: There you go.
- 14:06Speaker 2: So you've gotten a chance to see them win multiple titles,
- 14:10which is funny since he went eighty six years without
- 14:13winning one and then two thousand and four in two
- 14:16thousand and seven and thirteen and eighteen.
- 14:19Speaker 1: You know, so you've got a chance to see them
- 14:21win multiplever and over. Yeah. Yeah, So it's been nice.
- 14:23You've had an embarrassment of riches there.
- 14:25Speaker 2: All right, more coming up, we'll update the baseball for you,
- 14:28going on with the playoffs here on sports Radio AM
- 14:30thirteen hundred
