Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: What's going on everyone? Emily A body here. You are
- 0:22Speaker 1: listening to five Minute Friday from Hurdle. This week, I
- 0:27Speaker 1: want to talk about listening to your body. It's a
- 0:31Speaker 1: big part of the conversation for me lately, and it's
- 0:36Speaker 1: not just listening to my body, but it's also listening
- 0:40Speaker 1: to my gut. So in Wednesday's conversation on the show
- 0:44Speaker 1: with Rebecca Stowe, we talked about having grace with ourselves
- 0:48Speaker 1: when it comes to sitting out a workout, knowing that
- 0:52Speaker 1: every day isn't going to feel like sunshine and rainbows,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and especially when it comes to running outside in the heat,
- 0:59Speaker 1: it can feel like a lot. And some days you
- 1:03Speaker 1: just need to be like, you know what, Today's not
- 1:06Speaker 1: my day. And that doesn't make me any less of
- 1:10Speaker 1: an amazing, amazing person. So for me this week, listening
- 1:15Speaker 1: to my gut has actually been multifaceted. It's been reeling
- 1:21Speaker 1: in my workouts. It's been me not doing a to
- 1:25Speaker 1: a day just because I wanted to not let somebody
- 1:29Speaker 1: else down. I realized earlier in the week that I
- 1:31Speaker 1: had a workout that I needed to go to for work,
- 1:34Speaker 1: which sounds kind of silly, but it was a meeting.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I was meeting someone to go to a workout class
- 1:39Speaker 1: and grab coffee and smoothies after, and I was supposed
- 1:42Speaker 1: to do a future workout in that same day. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: as much as I love the accountability that future brings me,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I will link it in the show notes because it
- 1:50Speaker 1: is my go to custom personalized training a pretty low
- 1:54Speaker 1: cost per month considering what you are getting. I digress.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I needed to communicate with my coach that I needed
- 2:02Speaker 1: to switch things up and I didn't need to do
- 2:04Speaker 1: two workouts in one day. I on Thursday had a
- 2:09Speaker 1: morning event that I had to go to, then acupuncture,
- 2:13Speaker 1: and then another event that I was supposed to go to,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and an afternoon recording. This comes the day after being
- 2:20Speaker 1: swamped with work three back to back recordings, and I
- 2:24Speaker 1: was just feeling like my social battery was completely zombed,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and so I didn't honest on it, Did I need
- 2:33Speaker 1: to go to that middle of the day event, honestly no?
- 2:37Speaker 1: Did I need to get this interview done today? Honestly no.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And in fact, the interview was easily rescheduled to a
- 2:46Speaker 1: time that was more convenient and no harm, no foul.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I realized that sometimes I don't do things for myself
- 2:53Speaker 1: because I don't want to inconvenience others. But when I
- 2:57Speaker 1: say that out loud, I reckon nys that there is
- 3:01Speaker 1: no one more important that I shouldn't inconvenience than myself,
- 3:07Speaker 1: because I know that in order to give to others, period,
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's got to start with me. And so this week
- 3:15Speaker 1: for five Minute Friday, that's what it's about. It's me
- 3:17Speaker 1: encouraging you to start with you to make the choices
- 3:21Speaker 1: that you need to make so that you can feel
- 3:23Speaker 1: like your battery is on the ups instead of on
- 3:27Speaker 1: the downs. On the downs, be your own energy fawcet
- 3:32Speaker 1: instead of an energy drain. My question for you today
- 3:37Speaker 1: what can you do for yourself to be an energy fawcet?
- 3:41Speaker 1: For you this weekend? Today? How can you be your
- 3:45Speaker 1: own energy fawcet? And now a listener question.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Hey, Emily, this is justin Colorado. I'm calling to ask
- 3:54Speaker 2: just about how you balance really embracing loving where you
- 3:57Speaker 2: are while also staying really ambitious and focused on your goals.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I'm just struggling a lot with this around aging and
- 4:05Speaker 2: having a baby a few years ago, and my body
- 4:08Speaker 2: has really changed and I want to work hard and
- 4:10Speaker 2: get back into shape and get to a place that
- 4:12Speaker 2: feels really great. But I also want to be really
- 4:14Speaker 2: grateful for where I am now and like celebrate that
- 4:18Speaker 2: and what I'm capable of. But it's been a little
- 4:21Speaker 2: bit of a struggle and I'd love to hear more
- 4:22Speaker 2: about how you balance that.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Hey, Jess, thanks for this Listen. I'm not going to
- 4:31Speaker 1: sit here in front and tell you that this dance
- 4:34Speaker 1: of embracing and having grace is easy. It's not, in fact,
- 4:39Speaker 1: like strengthening a muscle. It is something that you need
- 4:43Speaker 1: to exercise so that you can become better with it.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I would be remiss of it. I didn't say that
- 4:49Speaker 1: there are things right now in my life that I
- 4:53Speaker 1: would change. I think we can all safely say that
- 4:56Speaker 1: right But I recognize that there was a in my
- 5:00Speaker 1: life where I would have killed to be where I
- 5:04Speaker 1: am right now, And so it can be both. I
- 5:07Speaker 1: can appreciate this moment and have gratitude for it while
- 5:11Speaker 1: also dream and think about what's next. I can show
- 5:14Speaker 1: my current self appreciation and love by taking steps that
- 5:20Speaker 1: point me to the direction that I want to go.
- 5:24Speaker 1: The only way you will get to where you want
- 5:26Speaker 1: to go, The only way that you will get closer
- 5:28Speaker 1: to your goals is if you put in the work.
- 5:31Speaker 1: And so again, it can be both and both can
- 5:34Speaker 1: be challenging, but you can do challenging because you have
- 5:38Speaker 1: showed up to challenge before. And remember, this doesn't have
- 5:43Speaker 1: to be a journey that you go on alone. Right
- 5:46Speaker 1: There are so many people, I promise you in your
- 5:49Speaker 1: inner circle that are struggling with something just like this
- 5:53Speaker 1: that can really relate to where you are coming from.
- 5:57Speaker 1: So dig deep, even if it feels challenging to get comfortable,
- 6:00Speaker 1: open up with someone that you trust and talk to
- 6:02Speaker 1: them about where you're at so that you can feel
- 6:05Speaker 1: less alone, so that you can recognize that you are
- 6:07Speaker 1: not alone, and that you can move forward on your
- 6:11Speaker 1: journey with support and care and concern because you deserve that.
- 6:16Speaker 1: That's it for this week over at Emily a Body
- 6:19Speaker 1: and at Hurdle Podcast, another Hurdle Conquered. Catch you guys
- 6:23Speaker 1: next time.
