- 0:24Well, hey guys, good evening, it is John
- 0:27C.
- 0:27Morley here, serial entrepreneur.
- 0:29Great to be with you.
- 0:30This is the show for Tuesday, May 12th,
- 0:352026.
- 0:37Getting out a little bit late because it's
- 0:38a little crazy today, but this is Tuesday's
- 0:41show.
- 0:41So welcome everyone.
- 0:43Very first time you're joining me, big thank
- 0:44you and a warm welcome.
- 0:45If you've been here at least one time

- 0:58you can become a better version.
- 1:00All right, guys.

- 1:03feel free to check that out.
- 1:05And by the way, I've got my RO
- 1:06water here.
- 1:07Feel free to get yourself a snack, drink
- 1:10or the beverage.
- 1:10And this is really cool because it has
- 1:11my RO water, it has lemon in it,
- 1:13and it is pretty yummy, really, really good.
- 1:17All right, guys, let's kick this show off.
- 1:19So this week's master topic, in case you
- 1:23were wondering, we're going to get to in
- 1:25just a moment, but you know, this is
- 1:28Inspirations for Your Life and I am John
- 1:31C.
- 1:31Morley.
- 1:31I'm a serial entrepreneur.
- 1:32I'm an engineer, marketing specialist, video producer, podcast
- 1:35host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate lifelong
- 1:39learner, and now very grateful to be a
- 1:41published author.
- 1:42Remember, I think a lot of people think
- 1:46things are going to happen like just immediately.
- 1:48But you know, the thing is, they don't
- 1:50happen immediately.
- 1:52They happen after we have intention.
- 1:54So I think that's a very important thing
- 1:57to understand.
- 1:58And today we're talking about attention stabilization.
- 2:00This is series five, show 20, episode number
- 2:03four.
- 2:03And I said it is Tuesday.
- 2:05Number one, focus duration becomes more predictable and
- 2:09attention stops jumping randomly and begins holding long
- 2:14enough to complete meaningful work.
- 2:16And I think a lot of people out
- 2:18there, they want to achieve something meaningful, but
- 2:23then, you know, they get stuck, right?
- 2:25They get stuck in this doldrum and they
- 2:28don't know what to do.
- 2:29They don't know what to say.
- 2:30And they get so frustrated that they're not
- 2:33even sure like what's supposed to happen.
- 2:36All right.
- 2:37So I think that's a I think that's
- 2:38a very important thing to be aware of.
- 2:41And that's a lot of what our show
- 2:42is, just like my book, Train to Driven,
- 2:45it's about becoming aware of your life, becoming
- 2:48aware of your life.
- 2:50Number two, guys, task completion becomes more consistent.
- 2:55Work stops stalling mid process and starts reaching
- 2:58clean completion cycles.
- 3:00I think that's an important thing for us
- 3:02to know is that we can move through
- 3:04a process easily and we don't have interruptions.
- 3:09We can just find that it's easier to
- 3:11do it, right?
- 3:12It's easier to do it.
- 3:14And that's something that I think is very
- 3:16priceless.
- 3:17But when it happens, you're like, oh, my
- 3:19gosh, this is like pretty amazing.
- 3:21Right.
- 3:22And I'm like in sync.
- 3:23I'm like the synchronicities are happening like I'm
- 3:25in the flow.
- 3:26And that's a great, great feeling, guys, a
- 3:29really, really great feeling.
- 3:31Let's move on to the next point.
- 3:32Number three, input filtering becomes automatic.
- 3:35Unnecessary information gets ignored without conscious effort.
- 3:38Maybe there's certain people that I don't know.
- 3:44Maybe they are rude to you or maybe
- 3:46they do the wrong things and they're not
- 3:48good energy for you.
- 3:50So your body's like, OK, I need to
- 3:53ignore this kind of person.
- 3:55I need to stand clear of this kind
- 3:56of person.
- 3:56That's a very important thing.
- 3:59OK, and I think that's something that a
- 4:03lot of people have to pay attention to.
- 4:06Number four, guys, work boundaries become clear.
- 4:11Tasks stop bleeding into each other and you
- 4:15regain separation.
- 4:17You know, when everything sort of merged together,
- 4:18it's like, oh, my gosh, what am I
- 4:19supposed to do?
- 4:20How am I supposed to do this?
- 4:21Right.
- 4:22I think that's a very important thing to
- 4:25note is that there are lots of things
- 4:29out there.
- 4:30All right.
- 4:30There are lots of stuff going on.
- 4:32And so when we can figure out.
- 4:34You know what's happening.
- 4:37I think life can be pretty amazing.
- 4:40OK.
- 4:41And that's something a lot of people don't
- 4:45understand.
- 4:46OK.
- 4:47They don't understand it because they're basically in
- 4:56the denial stage.
- 4:58OK.
- 5:00Denial stage is when you do stuff, but.
- 5:05You think you're doing the right thing because
- 5:08of perception that you have.
- 5:10But the perception you have is wrong.
- 5:14And ladies, gentlemen, our perceptions become our reality.
- 5:17I've said this to you guys before.
- 5:18This is not new, not new at all.
- 5:23But what does it mean to you?
- 5:25I think it means that we need to
- 5:28be cognizant of what we're doing.
- 5:30We need to think about every moment in
- 5:32our life.
- 5:33OK, we need to think about that.
- 5:35I think that's a part that most people
- 5:38miss.
- 5:38They miss it in life.
- 5:40Number five, guys, execution interruptions decrease.
- 5:46Workflow is no longer constantly broken by the
- 5:48external triggers.
- 5:52Could be something somebody says, what they do.
- 5:57Or maybe just the way they look at
- 6:00you.
- 6:01And all these things can create a trigger.
- 6:05Triggers can be good, they can be bad.
- 6:08But I think when we start to recognize
- 6:11what a trigger is.
- 6:14We know that life is different, guys.
- 6:19We know that life is different.
- 6:21And I think that's an important thing for
- 6:23us to to realize that life is different.
- 6:29OK, life is different because we're becoming aware
- 6:35of the situation.
- 6:38We're becoming aware of the situation.
- 6:40I think that's a very important thing.
- 6:46OK, we're becoming aware of the situation, the
- 6:52situation to where we are right now and
- 6:54the situation to maybe where we are going.
- 6:57Right.
- 6:58That's a very important thing to understand.
- 7:02OK, number six, guys.
- 7:06Cognitive load becomes manageable.
- 7:09Thinking feels lighter because fewer things compare and
- 7:14compete at once.
- 7:17And I think when we can just look
- 7:20at where we are right now and we
- 7:23can say, you know what, things are flowing
- 7:26like they're starting, they're stopping.
- 7:29But this is there's a nice rhythm in
- 7:31life.
- 7:32OK, that's important, guys.
- 7:38OK, that that's very, very important.
- 7:46And I'll tell you something.
- 7:53It comes down to you.
- 7:57Applying yourself comes down to you noticing what's
- 8:01around you, noticing maybe you're going to say
- 8:03to me, John, you know, I don't really
- 8:05know what's around me, but all I know
- 8:06is I got to do this or I
- 8:07got to do that.
- 8:08And, you know, that's perfectly OK.
- 8:10But I think we have to just stop
- 8:13long enough to be able to smell the
- 8:15coffee, the flavors of life, right?
- 8:20Too many people are rushing each moment.
- 8:22They're not living it.
- 8:24I think that's important.
- 8:25Number seven, guys.
- 8:27Task switching becomes intentional.
- 8:32Movement between tasks becomes deliberate instead of reactive,
- 8:36instead of compulsive, we do it naturally in
- 8:40a flow.
- 8:41We connect, we disconnect, but we do it
- 8:44in a way that's pretty amazing.
- 8:45And the results become steadier over time and
- 8:48the results stop fluctuating and they begin that
- 8:51stabilization across all of our work sessions.
- 8:54And we get that compoundedness.
- 8:57Number nine, guys, attention recovery becomes faster.
- 9:02After distraction, focus returns without long reset times,
- 9:07without the long reset times, because now we're
- 9:10better.
- 9:10Now we understand that.
- 9:14This is what we have, we know how
- 9:16to learn.
- 9:18And that's something I think that drives a
- 9:20lot of people crazy because, you know, they've
- 9:22been doing some of their whole life and
- 9:23then suddenly like an epiphany happens.
- 9:26OK.
- 9:28An epiphany happens.
- 9:30I think that's a I think that's a
- 9:32very important thing to to understand.
- 9:38You know, a very important thing to understand.
- 9:40Um, I can tell you that life is
- 9:49happening.
- 9:53I can tell you that you are learning
- 9:56every single day.
- 10:00And when you learn every single day, you
- 10:03put things together.
- 10:04It's not like it happens all at once.
- 10:08OK.
- 10:09You start to have these amazing, um, I'm
- 10:14going to say, things in your life.
- 10:20And these things in your life are able
- 10:23to take you to an entirely new level.
- 10:29OK.
- 10:30A level that may be.
- 10:33I'm going to say is going to change
- 10:35you.
- 10:36But again, I want to tell you that
- 10:38it does not happen.
- 10:41Overnight, it does not happen overnight.
- 10:46And I say that to you because many
- 10:50people will be disappointed because they don't get
- 10:53what they want immediately.
- 10:58I think that's a very important thing to
- 11:02to realize.
- 11:04Right.
- 11:05That that's happening.
- 11:08And when that's happening, life is changing.
- 11:14You're learning, guys, every single day of your
- 11:17life.
- 11:18And when you do something wrong, you learn
- 11:21not to do that.
- 11:24But we have to take the data that
- 11:26we have received and we have to respond
- 11:30accordingly.
- 11:32Number 10, guys, workflow.
- 11:37Workflow becomes less fragmented.
- 11:41Work begins to feel continuous instead of scattered.
- 11:48It feels like it's just connected.
- 11:51Number 11, guys, priority structure becomes clear.
- 11:56Important tasks naturally rise above low value activity.
- 12:00I think when you notice that, that's when
- 12:04you're starting to get it.
- 12:05That's when you're starting to realize that this
- 12:08is something pretty amazing, guys.
- 12:11But again, I don't want to tell you
- 12:13that it's going to happen overnight.
- 12:16I don't want to tell you that.
- 12:19All right.
- 12:20So I think when we can understand like,
- 12:23you know, what's happening or or why things
- 12:26are happening, we have a different appreciation.
- 12:28Number 12, guys, mental fatigue, it just decreases.
- 12:33Basically, less switching creates more sustained energy and
- 12:39it gives us that natural, lively flow.
- 12:43Number 13, execution rhythm becomes stable.
- 12:48And work develops a predictable pace and a
- 12:51flow that we can actually grow with.
- 12:55Number 14, information intake becomes controlled.
- 13:00Only relevant input.
- 13:03Is processed, reducing overload, because, you know, we
- 13:08hear a lot of things in our life,
- 13:09but many of those things.
- 13:12Are not going to be helpful to us,
- 13:14right?
- 13:15Many of them will not be helpful to
- 13:17us at the current moment.
- 13:21I think that's something, again, that a lot
- 13:23of people like they just don't get, they
- 13:26don't understand.
- 13:29OK.
- 13:30And that's a big part.
- 13:36It's a very big part.
- 13:38It's a part that I think a lot
- 13:39of people would be saying, you know.
- 13:43I don't know, I don't really understand it.
- 13:46And I want to tell you that you
- 13:48can understand it.
- 13:49If you just believe in it, right?
- 13:54It might not be something that.
- 13:57You know, you're going to get an answer
- 13:59on immediately, but you will start to become.
- 14:04More knowledgeable.
- 14:06You'll gain wisdom and insight.
- 14:09And that will lead you to different paths
- 14:13that are right for you.
- 14:14But you got to pay attention and you
- 14:16got to you got to slow down and
- 14:18understand where are these paths in life and
- 14:20and where are they actually taking me?
- 14:22I think that's a I think that's a
- 14:24I think that's an important piece that many
- 14:27people like just kind of glance by.
- 14:31Number 15, guys, planning becomes more reliable and
- 14:36plans begin matching real execution more closely.
- 14:40Maybe you worked on a project and it's
- 14:42like the project's not going where you want
- 14:44to go, and the reason is.
- 14:47Because let's see, you don't know how to
- 14:48use all the tools, you don't know how
- 14:52to use all the tools, and because you
- 14:53don't use all the tools.
- 14:56You're frustrated with everything you're doing.
- 14:59Now, we could be talking about tools that.
- 15:02Are one thing, and I will tell you
- 15:08that the more you appreciate something like this.
- 15:12The more that you will grow, the more
- 15:15that other people that you're connected with will
- 15:18grow.
- 15:19Right.
- 15:21It's this great cycle and your energy does.
- 15:26You know, does rub off on people.
- 15:29Good or bad.
- 15:31Number 16, guys, focus windows become longer.
- 15:37Deep work sessions extend without a breakdown.
- 15:41Now, you know, you still need a break,
- 15:43OK?
- 15:43But you're going to be able to go
- 15:44longer without taking a break.
- 15:46I think that's a I think that's a
- 15:48very interesting thing.
- 15:51That you can go without taking a break,
- 15:58but you still need a break, OK?
- 15:59You still do need a break, no matter
- 16:01who you are, what you're doing, you need
- 16:03a break, you know, you're not Superman.
- 16:06Number 17, guys, decision clarity improves steadily.
- 16:11Choices become faster and they become more accurate.
- 16:16Task grouping becomes effective.
- 16:19Similar work is handled in organized blocks.
- 16:24And when we can do that, we start
- 16:26to put things into patterns.
- 16:28And when we know a pattern, we can
- 16:30easily replay the actions when we see or
- 16:34hear or sense that pattern.
- 16:37Very similar to a computer.
- 16:39Number 19, guys, output consistency increases and results
- 16:45stop varying wildly from task to task.
- 16:50I think a lot of times people get
- 16:51frustrated because, you know, they're trying to finish
- 16:54something, but then they're not using the right
- 16:56tools.
- 16:57They don't understand the tools they're using.
- 16:58And then they keep getting more frustrated because
- 17:00what they're doing is going nowhere.
- 17:04They're going nowhere.
- 17:06That's a big problem.
- 17:08Number 20, guys.
- 17:10Cognitive fragmentation decreases thinking.
- 17:15It becomes more unified.
- 17:18And when that happens.
- 17:19You get less scattered.
- 17:21When you're less scattered, you're using less energy,
- 17:24guys.
- 17:25You're using less energy.
- 17:28And when you ask people, are they organized?
- 17:31They'll probably tell you yes.
- 17:33But somebody who's organized doesn't get tired very
- 17:37easily.
- 17:38They have a balance of what they're doing.
- 17:42I think that's a very important thing to
- 17:46actually understand.
- 17:49Understanding how that works or what that means
- 17:53can really affect the quality of your life.
- 17:58Number 21, guys, work environment becomes more controlled.
- 18:03External noise seems to have less impact on
- 18:06execution.
- 18:07It's like if you ever had to originally
- 18:11learn how to study.
- 18:12When you first are learning how to study,
- 18:14every little nuance will distract you.
- 18:19As you get better, you learn how to
- 18:21filter out those things that are not necessarily
- 18:24serving you.
- 18:28But when you're starting, this is not an
- 18:30easy, easy thing, guys.
- 18:32It's not an easy thing.
- 18:35And I say that to you because maybe
- 18:38you're trying to do something, but you're not
- 18:41doing it properly.
- 18:43You're skipping ahead.
- 18:46And when you skip ahead, you miss the
- 18:48value of life.
- 18:50You miss the lessons, guys.
- 18:52You miss the lessons.
- 18:54And those lessons might actually be the key
- 18:57to you growing.
- 19:03You know, somebody once told me, John, you
- 19:05know, if you're not growing, you're dying.
- 19:06Because the more you grow, you don't just
- 19:12grow physically, guys, but you actually grow internally.
- 19:16You grow with your insights.
- 19:19You grow with your body structure.
- 19:30When you grow, you repair organs too.
- 19:35But again, I think most people that get
- 19:38in this loop, they're used to hearing noise.
- 19:41And they're used to saying, oh, you know,
- 19:42it's okay.
- 19:43I'll just deal with it.
- 19:46And as much as you want to just
- 19:47deal with it, I commend you.
- 19:49In the beginning, you are really depleting your
- 19:53energy.
- 19:54Now, eventually it can work.
- 19:57But I think in the beginning, I think
- 20:01we need to choose kindness.
- 20:02We need to be kind to ourselves.
- 20:10If we can be kind to ourselves, then
- 20:12you know what we can do?
- 20:13We can be kind to others.
- 20:20We can be kind to others.
- 20:25And that might sound really crazy, but it's
- 20:31the truth.
- 20:42I know a lot of you are saying
- 20:44to me, John, you know, you don't understand
- 20:47what I'm going through.
- 20:48No, I don't.
- 20:51But I can tell you, we've all had
- 20:52challenges and we've all overcome challenges.
- 20:58I think that's a very viable thing.
- 21:03Learning how to filter out the noise or
- 21:06what I like to say I use all
- 21:08the time is to turn off, silence the
- 21:11chattering monkeys in your head, silence the chattering
- 21:16monkeys in your head.
- 21:19Right?
- 21:20I think that's something that maybe you can
- 21:24say to me, John, this works or that
- 21:26doesn't work, but when you know how to
- 21:28silence those chattering monkeys in your head, life
- 21:32gets a new meaning and what you were
- 21:37working on suddenly changes.
- 21:42It shifts.
- 21:46It changes.
- 21:47It shifts.
- 21:56And as it shifts, we intentionally have to
- 22:02become more aware.
- 22:03If we don't, we disconnect from what we're
- 22:06doing and we're not on track.
- 22:17We're not on track, but if we just
- 22:20become a little bit aware of things, our
- 22:23lives can change, you know, this reminds me
- 22:27of the experiment, the, I won't get too
- 22:29deep on it, the, the double slit and
- 22:33a single slit science experiment with the particle
- 22:35and the waves.
- 22:36And when somebody watched, it was one thing
- 22:38and somebody didn't observe it's another.
- 22:40So when we're aware of something, the properties
- 22:42of an object through the double slit experiment
- 22:46have been said to change.
- 22:50That means they take two different forms based
- 22:53on, well, the condition they're in.
- 22:56So what is, now that I brought this
- 22:59up, the double slit experiment, it's experiment, it's
- 23:04a foundational physics demonstration showing that particles like
- 23:07electrons and light photons behave as both waves
- 23:10and particles.
- 23:12The concept is known as wave particle duality
- 23:15is the formal term.
- 23:17And when particles are fired one by one
- 23:19at two narrow parallel slits, they form an
- 23:23interference pattern detection screen indicating they have passed
- 23:28through, but slits simultaneously as waves.
- 23:38And so even when fired one at a
- 23:41time, individual particles are detected as localized dots
- 23:45on a screen.
- 23:47If a detector is placed at the slits
- 23:50to determine which slit the particle passes through,
- 23:53the interference pattern vanishes and the particles behave
- 23:57like classical particles.
- 24:02That's wild, guys.
- 24:06And it's the truth.
- 24:13So just observing something, guys, makes it so.
- 24:20So your attention has a lot of power.
- 24:23Number 22, guys, attention stability improves and focus
- 24:29holds under normal working conditions.
- 24:32Execution becomes more predictable.
- 24:36And work outcomes begin following expected patterns, expected
- 24:46patterns.
- 24:48Workflow interruptions reduce and less disruption leads to
- 24:53smoother progress.
- 24:54Number 24.
- 24:56I think when we hear about.
- 24:58You know, a change and we know that
- 25:02we're the one that can create that change.
- 25:04It can be scary, I'm not going to
- 25:07lie to you.
- 25:10Number 25, guys, output control improves results and
- 25:15it becomes more intentional and it becomes more
- 25:18structured.
- 25:20So I said it before, when we have
- 25:21two things consistently and we consistency and we
- 25:23have structure, we have success.
- 25:27We know we've done something right and we're
- 25:29getting a result and we duplicate that and
- 25:31we do it consistently and we follow the
- 25:33structure.
- 25:34We will have success.
- 25:36If you bake a recipe today or tomorrow
- 25:39or 50 days from now, that recipe is
- 25:42going to come out the same as long
- 25:44as you use the same ingredients, same cooking
- 25:48environment or similar cooking environment.
- 25:50That's what you get.
- 25:52Number 26, guys, mental structure becomes clearer.
- 25:57And thinking organizes itself into cleaner pathways.
- 26:01Number 27, focus becomes more resilient and distraction
- 26:05becomes less long-term impact.
- 26:11And so number 28, task flow becomes stable
- 26:15and work progresses without constant resets.
- 26:20How many times you've done something at work
- 26:21or wherever you are and you're like, oh,
- 26:23no, I got to start all over again.
- 26:25I guess the classic example I use is
- 26:27I was a crew before I became a
- 26:30skipper in sailing and I had a skipper
- 26:33who was a few years older than me,
- 26:35maybe about five or seven, 10 years older
- 26:38than me.
- 26:39And I remember what he wanted me to
- 26:40do.
- 26:40He wanted me to be the weight so
- 26:43I would sit different places.
- 26:45And the thing I want to talk about,
- 26:47we said it's one time or more than
- 26:49once, the one skipper I was with, he
- 26:52hit the buoy.
- 26:56And first, the idea was like, hey, you
- 26:57know, Joe, you hit the buoy.
- 26:59No, I didn't.
- 27:00I'm like, yeah, you hit the buoy.
- 27:04So you hit the buoy.
- 27:05So, you know, shut up.
- 27:08I said, first of all, I don't like
- 27:09this guy.
- 27:09I don't think I want a crew from
- 27:10again.
- 27:11And just then another guy came up with
- 27:15his crew.
- 27:15He says, we saw you boat six, one,
- 27:17five and such, and we're going to protest
- 27:20you.
- 27:22He said, I didn't do anything.
- 27:22He said, you hit the buoy.
- 27:25And he tells me to be quiet, I
- 27:27don't want to say anything, but he did
- 27:28hit the buoy.
- 27:29And so like, oh, you got to reround
- 27:31it.
- 27:31So when you reround it, you've got to
- 27:32basically reset.
- 27:35Number 29, productivity becomes more consistent and output
- 27:38levels stabilize across time, across time.
- 27:44Number 30, guys, attention stabilization achieves what you
- 27:50want.
- 27:50But focus reaches a reliable and a repeatable
- 27:53state.
- 27:53So when we can get something to be
- 27:56repeatable, we can put it into a process.
- 27:59It breaks down to structure and consistency.
- 28:04If you have structure, you're not consistent.
- 28:06You're not going anywhere.
- 28:07If you're consistent, but you don't have a
- 28:09structure, well, then you might get it once,
- 28:11but you may not get it every time.
- 28:12You're not going to have a pattern, a
- 28:14flow.
