  Speaker 2: the diagnosis. To tell them to go get another another opinion.

  Speaker 2: And I was obedient, y'all. I was obedient. And I

  Speaker 2: kept on saying that. I kept on saying that, and

  Speaker 2: I kept on speaking, and I kept on believing it.

  Speaker 2: I wanted to do something, and I knew that God

  Speaker 2: had not brought me back there to do nothing, to

  Speaker 2: sit down. So one day I just happened to just

  Speaker 2: go to the library. I just wandered to the library,

  Speaker 2: just walked in the library. Didn't even know that it

  Speaker 2: was a library in the facility, but just happened to

  Speaker 2: happen up only walked in the library. There was a

  Speaker 2: young black lady working behind the library desk. Never seen
• 29:04
  Speaker 2: the black librarian before. That was my first black librarian,

  Speaker 2: and then there would come another one. So there's two

  Speaker 2: black librarians. I knew of three, but I know them personally.

  Speaker 2: So sitting there having a conversation with one of the

  Speaker 2: young ladies, says another young lady walked in. They started

  Speaker 2: having a conversation. Because I went off and got on

  Speaker 2: the computer, they started having a conversation. Long story short.

  Speaker 2: Before the end of the conversation, me and a young

  Speaker 2: lady had developed a partnership. I was telling her. They

  Speaker 2: was actually having a conversation, and they was talking about

  Speaker 2: how individuals do what they mama do, do what their

  Speaker 2: grandmama do, do what their great grandmama do, because that's
• 29:48
  Speaker 2: all they know to do, is what we call generational curses,

  Speaker 2: and all they know to do is what is being

  Speaker 2: handed down to them. But I told her, I said,

  Speaker 2: you know what I said, one thing my mama told me.

  Speaker 2: her at that particular time, I had a niece that

  Speaker 2: was attending University of South Carolina in Columbia. She had

  Speaker 2: got pregnant at age fourteen, gay birth at age fifteen,

  Speaker 2: and she was in college. And when immediately when that

  Speaker 2: young lady said that, I told I had to stop her.

  Speaker 2: I said, look, let me tell you something. I said,

  Speaker 2: I got a niece right now. I said, I got

  Speaker 2: a niece right now that is in college, getting ready

  Speaker 2: to graduate. I said she had her baby. I said,

  Speaker 2: she got pregnant when she was fourteen, eight birth when

  Speaker 2: she was fifteen. I said, this girl is getting ready

  Speaker 2: to graduate. To getting ready to graduate with a with
• 31:13
  Speaker 2: two degrees. But not only that, y'all. Within two years
• 31:16
  Speaker 2: she did not like the degree she had, so she
• 31:19
  Speaker 2: went back and became a nurse. She said, traveling nurse
• 31:23
  Speaker 2: was one of the first people to get the COVID shot. Yeah,

  Speaker 2: my niece someone that they say that that was gonna
• 31:33
  Speaker 2: be a statistic. You look at the circumstance, but what
• 31:36
  Speaker 2: there's a will as a way. And not only did
• 31:38
  Speaker 2: she break that generational curse, her daughter came and did
• 31:42
  Speaker 2: the same thing, graduated, pledged, did a lot of things
• 31:46
  Speaker 2: that a lot of people said we wouldn't do. But
• 31:50
  Speaker 2: then I watched my nephew because a lot of people
• 31:53
  Speaker 2: had began to write me off as a statistic too.

  Speaker 2: But I didn't end up pray didn't end up with

  Speaker 2: a house full of kids, because that was the first
• 32:02
  Speaker 2: attention that they tried to give me. They tried to
• 32:05
  Speaker 2: give me that one, but I refused to take it

  Speaker 2: cause you're looking at someone that don't have any kids.

  Speaker 2: I did not drop out of school. I did not
• 32:12
  Speaker 2: get pregnant in school. But when my mom died, that's
• 32:15
  Speaker 2: what they said was gonna happen. They said I would
• 32:18
  Speaker 2: drop out. They said I would become a drug addict.

  Speaker 2: They said I would be doing a whole monger. They
• 32:22
  Speaker 2: said everything, They called me everything but the child of God.

  Speaker 2: But let me tell you. Let me tell y'all one thing. See,

  Speaker 2: I got saved. My mama taught me about the words.

  Speaker 2: She sent me to church. Even when she didn't go,
• 32:38
  Speaker 2: she sent me to church. So even though I had

  Speaker 2: all this down in me, I got off. I went

  Speaker 2: off to college, y'all, and I began to experience life

  Speaker 2: because theyin't Nobody really tell me. So there I was

  Speaker 2: Even though I went back out that even though I

  Speaker 2: got back out, that the word was never left me.

  Speaker 2: The word was still in me. I knew, I knew enough,

  Speaker 2: and I knew how to call on the name of Jesus. Y'all.

  Speaker 2: And one of my spiritual brothers had told me, he said,

  Speaker 2: he was telling me. He was trying to fluffing up

  Speaker 2: and make it seem like it was just gonna be

  Speaker 2: all good. But I said I didn't want to go.

  Speaker 2: I was I was being disobedient. I said, I did

  Speaker 2: not want to go. Let me tell you how good

  Speaker 2: God is. Let me tell you what God would do.

  Speaker 2: for you to be obedi, you go against his work.

  Speaker 2: try to set me up and say that I was stealing.

  Speaker 2: at that particular time, I didn't wear blue jeans, had

  Speaker 2: no blue jeans, and did not wear tennis shoes. So

  Speaker 2: every time you saw me, I was either I had

  Speaker 2: on some dress shoes. I used to dress, so I
• 35:43
  Speaker 2: never wore tennis shoes and I never wore jeans, so

  Speaker 2: I didn't have any. Well, just so happened at that

  Speaker 2: particular time, my sister worked for me. She we worked

  Speaker 2: at the same store. Matter of fact, she got hired

  Speaker 2: before I got hired. But you know, they don't like

  Speaker 2: for family to work. Because me and my so that

  Speaker 2: had different we had different names, we had different last names.

  Speaker 2: They never knew that we were sisters. I used to

  Speaker 2: call them miss Carolyn because that's what she went by,

  Speaker 2: long story short, a couple of weeks after that incident happened,

  Speaker 2: here comes the police into the store. This very person

  Speaker 2: that was trying to get me fired, that was causing

  Speaker 2: all of this, trying to scandalize my name, was the

  Speaker 2: very person that was doing wrong. The police coming in

  Speaker 2: there wanted to look at videotape because somebody had been
• 36:57
  Speaker 2: letting people write faudulent checks and they had been scamming people.

  Speaker 2: But what these people had been doing was going into stores,
• 37:04
  Speaker 2: stealing people's purses and then using their credit cards, using
• 37:08
  Speaker 2: all these different things to up their credit limits and
• 37:11
  Speaker 2: to do all that, and they would stall them and
• 37:14
  Speaker 2: keep them from canceling their cards, like they took some
• 37:17
  Speaker 2: time to think about all this stuff. But that's the
• 37:22
  Speaker 2: type of stuff that they were doing. But I never, never, never, never,
• 37:28
  Speaker 2: I never talked bad. I never said anything. I just said,
• 37:31
  Speaker 2: you know what, okay, God would indicate me. God would
• 37:35
  Speaker 2: indicate me, y'all. I went from a shift leader to
• 37:39
  Speaker 2: a store manager within six months. I was the youngest
• 37:41
  Speaker 2: store manager within that company, running of one of the
• 37:45
  Speaker 2: most productive stores. Our bottom line. All we had to

  Speaker 2: do was make a five percent, y'all. Every single year

  Speaker 2: that I was with that company, the goal was five percent.

  Speaker 2: I made ten, fifteen, twelve percent every single year. I

  Speaker 2: got a good bonus for for making my bottom line,

  Speaker 2: shrink store. Because one thing I didn't play was stealing.
