- 0:45Speaker 3: and Shipoward are proud to present sports Talk.
- 0:51Speaker 4: It is a.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Beautiful day here in the Brass Valley as the sun
- 0:55Speaker 3: is shining and we have semblants of spring for the
- 1:00Speaker 3: first time in a long time. As for Jason Cornelis
- 1:07Speaker 3: and myself, you cannot help but feel that it will
- 1:12Speaker 3: be a different kind of sports talk day. We will
- 1:17Speaker 3: not be talking about hunting, animal attacks, or what I
- 1:24Speaker 3: believe is like game seven, eight, nine, or ten of
- 1:27Speaker 3: the Major League Baseball season. No, today is a day
- 1:32Speaker 3: to talk the beautiful game, not soccer. I had enough
- 1:37Speaker 3: of that yesterday. No, we will be talking about golf
- 1:42Speaker 3: and all of its majesty and beauty and sport. We'll
- 1:46Speaker 3: also be talking about the NBA as we are into
- 1:48Speaker 3: the final three games of this regular season. So sit back, relax,
- 1:55Speaker 3: and of course, if you're driving on Highway six, it's
- 1:58Speaker 3: going to be a long day because I can't you
- 2:00Speaker 3: how many wrecks have already occurred today. But we appreciate
- 2:04Speaker 3: you joining us.
- 2:08Speaker 5: I didn't say all he can stretch that out, because.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. I probably could have kept it going,
- 2:16Speaker 3: but I know we've got a lot to get to today.
- 2:20Speaker 6: It is chippowered Sports Talk on Masters Thursday. Sports Radio
- 2:24Speaker 6: made it Yes, Sports Rat eleven fifty AM, The Zone
- 2:27Speaker 6: ninety through seven FM. If you didn't know already, Jason
- 2:30Speaker 6: crnois Jared Hickson here, and this is you and we've
- 2:34Speaker 6: done it before. I mean, we've been able to do
- 2:37Speaker 6: this by luck most of the time that that chip
- 2:39Speaker 6: is and ends up being gone but like you were
- 2:42Speaker 6: quested today.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Well, I mean he he seemed to be in a
- 2:45Speaker 3: generous mood a couple weeks almost maybe even a couple
- 2:49Speaker 3: months back, and it was just like, hey, if you
- 2:52Speaker 3: can just give us a day on Masters week, if
- 2:56Speaker 3: it's during the tournament, beautiful, but I mean I would
- 2:59Speaker 3: just take a day, and he gave us day one,
- 3:03Speaker 3: and thank goodness, because I mean, we got we got
- 3:07Speaker 3: so much going on today.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Well in this we you and I again on the
- 3:10Speaker 5: times that we've been able to do this.
- 3:11Speaker 3: This is one of like a sports equinox esque feeling.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Yeah, so it's this time of the year.
- 3:18Speaker 6: Again, it's a great way of putting of an equinox
- 3:20Speaker 6: kind of feeling because it's this time of the year,
- 3:22Speaker 6: and then it is it's September like so they like
- 3:26Speaker 6: the end of September. Right in October, you've got yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 6: you've got baseball playoffs, NBA, NFL like everything.
- 3:32Speaker 3: There, NHL college football, NFL football.
- 3:37Speaker 6: Yeah, everything is and that in that time in the fall,
- 3:39Speaker 6: right at the end of September and October, and so yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 6: this week was the women's and the men's Intuba Tournament championship.
- 3:46Speaker 6: For Sunday, and then Monday we've got obviously baseball has started,
- 3:50Speaker 6: we don't have to talk about it, but like I mean,
- 3:52Speaker 6: seeing what shohe Atani has already started off this season,
- 3:56Speaker 6: like that's going to be a story that we will
- 3:58Speaker 6: touch to when we start talking base probably in late
- 4:02Speaker 6: July August.
- 4:02Speaker 5: But the start that he is.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Off to start, he's off to the Pittsburgh Pirates, which
- 4:08Speaker 3: you know you have Paul Skins. We're already talking baseball,
- 4:15Speaker 3: but the idea that the Pirates were going to be competitive,
- 4:18Speaker 3: that's still like multiple years off. They're actually off to
- 4:20Speaker 3: a pretty decent start. Looks like they're ahead of schedule.
- 4:24Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean it's it's the first couple of
- 4:27Speaker 3: weeks of the season, and so everything can be thrown
- 4:29Speaker 3: out the window literally within a month.
- 4:33Speaker 6: So NBA is getting ready to wrap up. There are
- 4:36Speaker 6: three games left on most everybody's schedule, and hardly anything
- 4:42Speaker 6: is truly set in either conference. I say hardly the
- 4:47Speaker 6: thing so we know what's going on at least with
- 4:49Speaker 6: the number one seeds, but other than that, nothing, nothing
- 4:53Speaker 6: else is truly set as far as position is concerned.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I mean, we talked about and we've talked about the
- 4:58Speaker 3: number of times Chips allowed us to be in here
- 5:01Speaker 3: basically since January that as far as the West goes,
- 5:06Speaker 3: you know, the ten team, you know the ten teams
- 5:09Speaker 3: that are going to be in the order of those
- 5:11Speaker 3: teams that is just except for at the very top,
- 5:14Speaker 3: has just been all over the time.
- 5:16Speaker 6: And yeah, and it will continue to There are lots
- 5:19Speaker 6: of different permeations of what can actually happen, and we'll
- 5:23Speaker 6: get into it when we talked NBA later. But like,
- 5:25Speaker 6: I don't know if I have ever felt sorry for
- 5:31Speaker 6: Lebron James, but I actually kind of feel sorry for
- 5:35Speaker 6: Lebron James right now as to where the Lakers were
- 5:39Speaker 6: and then for both Luca and Austin Reeves to go
- 5:42Speaker 6: down with injuries here as they were like peak like
- 5:46Speaker 6: they weren't going.
- 5:46Speaker 5: To win the championship, let's just get that out of
- 5:48Speaker 5: the way.
- 5:48Speaker 6: But they were peaking to where it could at least
- 5:50Speaker 6: make it a little interesting, and so very very I'm
- 5:53Speaker 6: actually feeling a little bit sorry for him.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I mean, you almost felt I think the last time
- 5:58Speaker 3: we were in here we were talking about the fact
- 6:00Speaker 3: he seems like he's actually okay. People transitioning into that third.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Guy role that's that old.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I mean, he kind of has to know.
- 6:11Speaker 6: That is That is why I was I mean, yes,
- 6:13Speaker 6: that is why I was starting to feel a little
- 6:16Speaker 6: empathy for him based on what he had kind of accepted.
- 6:19Speaker 6: And I mean again, when your third best player is
- 6:22Speaker 6: Lebron James like and he's accepted being I mean, everything
- 6:25Speaker 6: was going well for them. And then as we're looking
- 6:27Speaker 6: at the TV right now it is Master's Week, it.
- 6:31Speaker 7: Just you Okay.
- 6:33Speaker 3: So I've been thinking about this because I'm sure a
- 6:36Speaker 3: number of people are just like, Okay, what is why
- 6:40Speaker 3: is this so important to you?
- 6:42Speaker 5: Big?
- 6:42Speaker 8: To you?
- 6:44Speaker 3: And what it really comes down to is and I
- 6:46Speaker 3: know this is gonna seem kind of fuddy duddy when
- 6:51Speaker 3: you watch the Masters broadcast. With the exception of HD
- 6:55Speaker 3: and and better camera angles and and all sorts of things,
- 6:59Speaker 3: for the most part, this broadcast has not changed in
- 7:02Speaker 3: my lifetime. And there's a lot to be said about
- 7:05Speaker 3: that because when you watch this course and they say
- 7:11Speaker 3: it it's humbling. It doesn't look it on TV, but
- 7:14Speaker 3: talk to people who've been there, like longtime listener Mike Connor,
- 7:17Speaker 3: shout out to you, this course is exceptionally hilly.
- 7:21Speaker 7: It's got a lot of topography to it.
- 7:26Speaker 3: The Augusta National Competition Committee tries to make things a
- 7:29Speaker 3: little more competitive, you know, changing of the whole placements
- 7:33Speaker 3: on all four days. It's always exciting and more importantly,
- 7:38Speaker 3: the turn the course itself is viewing. Whereas when you
- 7:43Speaker 3: watch the Super Bowl, which you know one hundred and
- 7:45Speaker 3: forty million Americans and a billion people around the world
- 7:48Speaker 3: do You're not always guaranteed to get a good game.
- 7:51Speaker 3: A lot of times you do, but some cases you don't.
- 7:54Speaker 3: And that broadcast is chocked full of commercials and breakaways
- 7:58Speaker 3: and all sorts of things, whereas with the Masters it
- 8:01Speaker 3: is very limited in its commercial breaks. And there's just
- 8:04Speaker 3: something to be said about being able to sit and
- 8:06Speaker 3: watch something that a is pleasing to the eye and
- 8:12Speaker 3: be will always have an element of competition to it.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I mean, two years ago when Sam Bennett, this amateur
- 8:19Speaker 3: golfer from A and M born in Madisonville, Texas, is
- 8:24Speaker 3: in the final pairing on Sunday, I mean, how yes,
- 8:29Speaker 3: locally you get excited about that, but how can you
- 8:31Speaker 3: not get invested in just the idea of David versus
- 8:35Speaker 3: Goliath in that in that regard, so I just everything
- 8:39Speaker 3: about it. Yes, I want to go there, and as
- 8:41Speaker 3: we were talking about in the pre shiw Medi, I
- 8:42Speaker 3: don't want to pay after market prices. I've been in
- 8:44Speaker 3: this Master's lottery since two thousand and six. Eventually I'm
- 8:47Speaker 3: gonna win tickets.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I hope, are you.
- 8:50Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I mean I was really hoping to, you know, win
- 8:53Speaker 3: them and my dad and I be able to go.
- 8:56Speaker 3: At some point, may just have to capitulate and say,
- 8:59Speaker 3: if I'm going to take my dad, yeah, I'm gonna
- 9:01Speaker 3: have to do the aftermarket thing. But it I mean,
- 9:03Speaker 3: there's just so much about it that that, you know,
- 9:07Speaker 3: stirs up just joy of watching something that is going
- 9:14Speaker 3: to entertain you. And at the same time, there's a
- 9:17Speaker 3: lot to be said about that Saturday. I'm not going
- 9:19Speaker 3: to get to do it this year. We're playing soccer
- 9:21Speaker 3: in Houston that Saturday afternoon golf nap oh, that is
- 9:26Speaker 3: just like top ten.
- 9:28Speaker 6: That is that is a top level napping of just
- 9:32Speaker 6: and again it's it's how they they broadcast, speaking of broadcast,
- 9:36Speaker 6: but how they broadcast the Masters more than any other
- 9:40Speaker 6: golf tournament. It's just like it is so soothing, like
- 9:42Speaker 6: you can't help but have a sandwich with some potato
- 9:46Speaker 6: chips and lay on the couch and think you're gonna
- 9:49Speaker 6: watch and be out like it is so soothing. But
- 9:52Speaker 6: speaking of so have you been watching all day? I'm
- 9:55Speaker 6: asking a rhetorical question.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Yes, I have. You pulled it up on Prime.
- 9:59Speaker 3: And well no, nope. So I was mistaken about that
- 10:03Speaker 3: Prime did not start. Prime did not start until noon
- 10:06Speaker 3: our time?
- 10:08Speaker 5: So who had who had the early rounds?
- 10:10Speaker 7: You had to watch on the Masters do com?
- 10:12Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, Masters dot Com Masters app, which I also
- 10:14Speaker 3: had up at six twenty five our time this morning
- 10:18Speaker 3: for the ceremonial tee off which and I and I
- 10:21Speaker 3: put this on on my socials. Gary Player, ninety year
- 10:26Speaker 3: old Australian Masters champion who played in the par three
- 10:30Speaker 3: tournament yesterday.
- 10:33Speaker 7: God to to to be as.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Physically fit as he is at ninety is I think
- 10:39Speaker 3: we should all strive for which kind of made it
- 10:41Speaker 3: so depressing when Jack Nicholas came up to tee off
- 10:45Speaker 3: second and you can you can just see that that
- 10:50Speaker 3: time is is taking its toll on his body. He
- 10:53Speaker 3: can't bend over to uh to tee up and and
- 10:56Speaker 3: and unfortunately they they switched the camera angle in shops
- 11:00Speaker 3: and I'm hooking it to the left, almost hitting the patrons.
- 11:05Speaker 7: But he was a good sport about it.
- 11:07Speaker 3: But again, just just I know, so much of this
- 11:11Speaker 3: is is ceremonial, competitive and obviously a lot of people
- 11:17Speaker 3: think it's fuddy duddy, old white guy stuff. But there
- 11:20Speaker 3: is something to be said about you know, no phones,
- 11:23Speaker 3: no electronics, no cameras, the patrons are not allowed to run.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Everyone respects when you set your chair.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Up, that's where you get that. Yet nobody moves your stuff.
- 11:34Speaker 3: The fact that they do not sell this merchandise anywhere
- 11:38Speaker 3: except at Augusta National for this week, which is why
- 11:40Speaker 3: that store will do seventy million dollars over the course
- 11:43Speaker 3: of seven days.
- 11:44Speaker 7: I mean that's two.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Hundred and twenty eight dollars per second in sales.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Wow.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Yeah, so I mean and again such and we're looking
- 11:56Speaker 6: at it now. Just a wonderful view. I mean, this
- 11:59Speaker 6: the tournament is amazing and I would like to go
- 12:01Speaker 6: there as well. But like so here goes back to
- 12:02Speaker 6: what we talked, what I talked about last time. So
- 12:05Speaker 6: for you to watch today, you had to gig it
- 12:08Speaker 6: up this morning watchmasters dot com. Yes, and then to
- 12:11Speaker 6: continue at noon our time, then you had to go
- 12:13Speaker 6: to Prime. Yes, and then to continue after that you
- 12:17Speaker 6: had to go to the mothership.
- 12:19Speaker 7: The mothership starting. I believe that three three.
- 12:21Speaker 6: Are time yes, and so to watch all of it,
- 12:25Speaker 6: which again you mentioned the other the last time we
- 12:27Speaker 6: were here. It's awesome that for the first like for
- 12:29Speaker 6: the first couple of times, you get to watch the
- 12:31Speaker 6: entire day on a way to a way to be
- 12:33Speaker 6: able to do that. But you've got to go to
- 12:35Speaker 6: three different platforms to be able to do that.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Which I hate to say this, I think we've kind
- 12:42Speaker 3: of become conditioned to that.
- 12:45Speaker 5: That was the other thing that you said.
- 12:46Speaker 7: Also thanks to all the other sports.
- 12:48Speaker 5: Yeah, well that's and which was Oh my god, talk
- 12:57Speaker 5: that is I am not I mean Prime and I
- 13:01Speaker 5: get it. God bless you you have.
- 13:02Speaker 6: You were shelling out the money to get the broadcast
- 13:06Speaker 6: rights for so many things. I'm just like also like,
- 13:09Speaker 6: i I'm not I don't know if I'm a fan
- 13:12Speaker 6: of some of these actual streaming solo streaming apps. Getting
- 13:19Speaker 6: all of these television or apps, whether it's Netflix, whether
- 13:21Speaker 6: it's whether it's Paramount Plus, whether it is now Prime,
- 13:27Speaker 6: it just makes it too hard and difficult to find
- 13:30Speaker 6: the sports that I want to find.
- 13:31Speaker 3: It does and and the problem is it's all driven
- 13:37Speaker 3: by money. Because if you want to talk about how
- 13:41Speaker 3: do we make more money without couging our ticket holders, well,
- 13:46Speaker 3: the easiest thing to do is broadcast rights. And who
- 13:51Speaker 3: has all the money streaming services? Yep, who owns the
- 13:54Speaker 3: streaming services? Well, now some of the same people who
- 13:56Speaker 3: are owning the broadcast networks. For the interesting to see
- 14:00Speaker 3: kind of how that transpires over the next few years.
- 14:03Speaker 3: But as one of the stories we'll talk about today,
- 14:08Speaker 3: we might be hitting a point of capitulation in all
- 14:12Speaker 3: of this as far as just kind of the affordability.
- 14:15Speaker 6: We'll see coming up in a second, we will dive
- 14:18Speaker 6: more into the first round of the Masters today and
- 14:22Speaker 6: what we see on the leader board.
- 14:24Speaker 5: We'll be back in just a second.
- 14:25Speaker 6: You're listening to chip our Sports Talk Today taken over
- 14:27Speaker 6: by Jason Jarrett on Sports Radio eleven fifty AM The
- 14:29Speaker 6: Zone ninety three seven FM.

- 14:35Speaker 9: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While

- 14:57Speaker 9: co insurance a Hub International company, so you're ready for tomorrow.

- 15:04Speaker 10: I'm not speaking ill of you, by the way.
- 15:06Speaker 11: What I'm about to say, it's just the things that,
- 15:08Speaker 11: like I thought we all knew.
- 15:11Speaker 12: They only know what's on YouTube if it's trending.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 7: Their idea of history is what they remember, not what
- 15:17Speaker 7: they learned.
- 15:18Speaker 12: So if I were to say, who's the fridge, you would.
- 15:21Speaker 8: Say I've literally heard that nickname, but yeah, I can.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Tell you William Perry.
- 15:27Speaker 3: If I were to say the microwave, you would say,
- 15:30Speaker 3: it's in my kitchen.
- 15:32Speaker 7: The Bash Brothers, who are they?
- 15:34Speaker 10: They're bros.
- 15:35Speaker 7: Friends, Maguire, thank you.
- 15:38Speaker 12: When I say the hit, you say the punch?
- 15:43Speaker 7: Who's the hit? Quintin Coryot, God, what I could have
- 15:47Speaker 7: told you.
- 15:47Speaker 8: George German played for the Spurs, though that one I
- 15:49Speaker 8: wouldn't I would have know.
- 15:50Speaker 13: He just didn't know his nickname what he was known for.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Not in the ABA. Who's the Dream?
- 15:56Speaker 3: Koreeina Dream Williams textags live weekday from eight to eleven
- 16:01Speaker 3: on The Zone.
- 16:05Speaker 7: God San Shut the Shout Shop The Very Good Up.
- 16:45Speaker 7: Twelve year old Jared dreamt of Janet Jackson and.
- 16:52Speaker 3: A crew of her girlfriends driving up to me on
- 16:57Speaker 3: the side of a road out and dancing in a
- 17:03Speaker 3: perfectly choreographed yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 6: Chip Hower Sports Talk taken over by Jason and Jared.
- 17:12Speaker 6: Jason Jared Exports Rate eleven fifty AM, The Zone ninety
- 17:18Speaker 6: three to seven FM, and quick question. As we're getting
- 17:20Speaker 6: ready to dive deeper into the Masters right now, our
- 17:27Speaker 6: fellow guest host sometime and television personality herself, Carlic Castile,
- 17:33Speaker 6: would like to know, like being that you haven't been
- 17:36Speaker 6: able to get in to the Masters through the lottery,
- 17:39Speaker 6: Like how do you feel about the the increase of
- 17:43Speaker 6: UH celebrities and influencers that have been able to get
- 17:48Speaker 6: into the Masters as it's becoming more of a thing now.
- 17:51Speaker 6: She is a huge F one fan and she hates
- 17:57Speaker 6: how quote unquote pop or like Coda has gotten in
- 18:02Speaker 6: Austin and like it like the the re like and
- 18:06Speaker 6: I can't say it like this way, but traditional fans
- 18:08Speaker 6: like it's harder for them to get in now. And obviously,
- 18:11Speaker 6: like you said, you're someone and I know this for
- 18:14Speaker 6: you are a true golf fan. And as you said,
- 18:16Speaker 6: it is a it would be and it's for most
- 18:19Speaker 6: people a like a monumental trip to go to Augusta
- 18:24Speaker 6: and to see see everything there.
- 18:27Speaker 5: And then you got these like yeah, I just get
- 18:30Speaker 5: to go and well, I mean.
- 18:34Speaker 3: We kind of live, we've it's been a society for
- 18:38Speaker 3: a while. And I'm not philosophical on this where celebrity
- 18:42Speaker 3: gets you, uh gets you access to too significantly more
- 18:47Speaker 3: than the average person.
- 18:49Speaker 5: Yes, and.
- 18:53Speaker 3: You know the kind of the what I find humorous
- 18:56Speaker 3: about like uh today or I guess it was last
- 19:01Speaker 3: night the article came out that the chairman of Augusta
- 19:04Speaker 3: National Now regrets allowing Dude Perfect to do their frisbee
- 19:08Speaker 3: thing through a men corner. You know, it's one of
- 19:15Speaker 3: those things where if you are trying to appeal to
- 19:18Speaker 3: a younger demographic to kind of bring them in or
- 19:21Speaker 3: things like that, you're gonna try stuff. And you know,
- 19:28Speaker 3: if every if the vast majority of the under thirty
- 19:32Speaker 3: population gets their information through TikTok and things like that.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Then you're gonna have to provide access to them through
- 19:40Speaker 3: that method. What I've noticed, especially as it relates to
- 19:44Speaker 3: the Masters, and as you get closer to this week,
- 19:47Speaker 3: and especially during this week, they are phenomenal in their
- 19:51Speaker 3: social media presence, the quality of video and photography, and
- 19:56Speaker 3: the articles and the in depth UH information they provide.
- 20:04Speaker 3: I I don't, you know, I'm not a I don't.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I don't watch the Golf channel really at all, beyond
- 20:11Speaker 3: the beyond this week. I don't subscribe to Golf Digest,
- 20:14Speaker 3: so I don't. I don't know who the seasoned professionals
- 20:17Speaker 3: are in the industry or in the sport. But I
- 20:22Speaker 3: will tell you this, my my algorithm is completely filled
- 20:27Speaker 3: with Masters coverage and and thank goodness, because that's what
- 20:31Speaker 3: I want to see, and I appreciate the welcome distractions.
- 20:36Speaker 5: Like it knows that this is what has been on
- 20:38Speaker 5: your mind, whether whether.
- 20:39Speaker 3: It's Carlos point, I mean, you know, I got into
- 20:42Speaker 3: I think myself and a majority of people in America
- 20:45Speaker 3: got into F one thanks to the Netflix series UH
- 20:50Speaker 3: Strive to Survive, and that has created, uh the interest,
- 20:55Speaker 3: And you know, I knew there was a circuit of
- 20:58Speaker 3: America's in Austin. I didn't know what happened there prior
- 21:02Speaker 3: to to twenty twenty. Now that I do, it's like, well, shoot,
- 21:05Speaker 3: I'd really like to go to that, but I'm not
- 21:07Speaker 3: going to pay, you know, the fifty thousand dollars or
- 21:11Speaker 3: whatever it costs to get paddock access, right, And I
- 21:15Speaker 3: don't know if I want to be one of three
- 21:17Speaker 3: hundred thousand trying to leave that place on a Sunday
- 21:21Speaker 3: following a race, because I make that drive to that
- 21:24Speaker 3: part of Austin every so often, and it's bad enough
- 21:27Speaker 3: just doing that.
- 21:28Speaker 6: Well and so in that like and as we've gotten
- 21:32Speaker 6: way off away from it from no no, and that's
- 21:34Speaker 6: my fault too, from the masters.
- 21:35Speaker 5: But yeah, that's one of the things.
- 21:36Speaker 6: Like I have I have friends, one of my friends,
- 21:39Speaker 6: Chef Tay and then my friend Steve at like they
- 21:41Speaker 6: have been going to this same corner at CODA for
- 21:45Speaker 6: years and now it's they're saying it's like it's harder
- 21:47Speaker 6: to get the ticket that they've gotten four years because
- 21:51Speaker 6: all of these new quote unquote fans are showing up
- 21:54Speaker 6: and again a lot of times just people that aren't
- 21:56Speaker 6: even there, that really see the race, They just want
- 21:58Speaker 6: to say that they're there exact and that would be
- 22:00Speaker 6: very frustrated.
- 22:01Speaker 3: One of the funniest things I saw yesterday and I
- 22:03Speaker 3: was tempted to share it, except I'm probably gonna be
- 22:06Speaker 3: guilty of this at some point in my life. Harvard.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Harvard did a study and the greatest, uh or the
- 22:14Speaker 3: highest form of fraud committed in America this week is
- 22:19Speaker 3: guys wearing Masters gear who've never been to a customed action.
- 22:25Speaker 7: Anyway.
- 22:26Speaker 3: But I mean, I guess getting getting back to to
- 22:31Speaker 3: the tournament today itself, I mean I did not. I
- 22:36Speaker 3: figured Scotti Scheffler was probably gonna win, but I haven't
- 22:39Speaker 3: been watching enough this year to know if if he's
- 22:42Speaker 3: on pace. I know he's been doing exceptionally well. Uh
- 22:45Speaker 3: figured Rory might play a factor in it, but coming
- 22:49Speaker 3: off of last year's success and just well, I mean
- 22:53Speaker 3: that the pressure is off and actually went out, had
- 22:56Speaker 3: a great day to day shot shot five under. But
- 23:01Speaker 3: obviously what's going to transpire then tomorrow and especially Saturday,
- 23:06Speaker 3: I think will dictate a whole lot about what we're
- 23:08Speaker 3: going to look at going into Sunday. So it's really
- 23:11Speaker 3: tough for me to say there is a who my
- 23:14Speaker 3: favorite would be. I mean I would say, you know,
- 23:16Speaker 3: if you give me the betting odds, do I take Scotti,
- 23:18Speaker 3: Shuffler or the field? I probably take the field in
- 23:20Speaker 3: that regard.
- 23:21Speaker 6: And I'm I'm looking over this and and I am
- 23:25Speaker 6: not the most die hard of golf fans. I do
- 23:30Speaker 6: watch with my with Wesley really now getting more or
- 23:35Speaker 6: trying to get more into golf, like now I am
- 23:37Speaker 6: getting more into golf a little bit, and so looking
- 23:40Speaker 6: at the leaderboard so far here today, here's the thing,
- 23:43Speaker 6: and to put it in terms of things that we've
- 23:46Speaker 6: talked about before and not I'm not gonna get dived
- 23:50Speaker 6: deep into what happened with Tiger. We talked about that
- 23:53Speaker 6: the last time that we were here, because it happens
- 23:55Speaker 6: that day exactly.
- 23:56Speaker 5: But like, there is no there is not a who's
- 24:02Speaker 5: the draw?
- 24:03Speaker 6: And Carlo was asking us about like, well, whether celebrities
- 24:07Speaker 6: and or influencers that are there right now, but who
- 24:11Speaker 6: who are the influencers on the leader board that are
- 24:14Speaker 6: also going to pull people.
- 24:18Speaker 5: To watch.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I mean, I think like Bryson de Shambo, he was
- 24:22Speaker 3: one of the betting odds favorites coming into the tournament,
- 24:26Speaker 3: and he just had an abysmal day. He yeah, I
- 24:29Speaker 3: printed us up, he tripled bogie I believe it is
- 24:32Speaker 3: on twelve twelve or thirteen, and that frustration just kind
- 24:37Speaker 3: of permeated over into the into the his remaining holes.
- 24:42Speaker 3: And so he's gonna he would have to he's going
- 24:44Speaker 3: to have to do a whole lot of work to
- 24:45Speaker 3: become a factor in this. So he his tournament may
- 24:47Speaker 3: already be over by all regards. It's typically going to
- 24:54Speaker 3: be the names that that draw the interest.
- 24:58Speaker 7: Rory.
- 24:59Speaker 5: I mean, h.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Scottie Scheffler, one of you know, Tommy Fleetwood has has
- 25:09Speaker 3: had some momentum behind him and he was a huge
- 25:12Speaker 3: hit yesterday on the par three tournament. You know, one
- 25:16Speaker 3: of the one one of the names I just always
- 25:19Speaker 3: look at because what he's doing is just truly remarkable.
- 25:23Speaker 7: Fred Couples at sixty six years, yes.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Two under, he's the oldest player to to hit back
- 25:30Speaker 3: to back birdies in this tournament now by three full years.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I mean, if just like Gary Player is defining the
- 25:38Speaker 3: odds at age ninety, Fred Couples continues to be a
- 25:40Speaker 3: factor in this year after year after year, it would
- 25:43Speaker 3: almost I would. And uh, today just coincidentally is the
- 25:47Speaker 3: fortieth anniversary of Jack Nicholas winning his sixth at a
- 25:51Speaker 3: at a point in his life where most people thought
- 25:53Speaker 3: he was he was done, especially in a tournament like this.
- 25:56Speaker 3: So I mean, I don't think other than just the
- 26:01Speaker 3: prestige that comes with the Masters, that you're ever gonna
- 26:05Speaker 3: see it tilt the scale where it's where it's like
- 26:09Speaker 3: a Hollywood influencer thing. But I do believe that these
- 26:15Speaker 3: younger guys, you're you're Scotti, Scheffler's your your, your Max Holmas.
- 26:22Speaker 3: I mean, it's hard to believe that Jordan Spieth won
- 26:24Speaker 3: this thing ten years ago. Uh, you know, these are
- 26:27Speaker 3: the guys who are gonna kind of spur the the
- 26:31Speaker 3: interest for more younger players to participate. And of course,
- 26:36Speaker 3: I mean, and I know this is it's this, it's
- 26:39Speaker 3: this private club. The women's you know, the women. The
- 26:44Speaker 3: fact the women's tournaments a three day or a three
- 26:48Speaker 3: day or a three day event prior.
- 26:52Speaker 7: Doesn't help.
- 26:52Speaker 3: I think that if they would make it a legitimate
- 26:58Speaker 3: four day tournament for the women, I think that would
- 27:00Speaker 3: that might help its prestige as well.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Oh well, but I also.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Don't know that part of the country don't like change
- 27:07Speaker 3: all that much. And there's and there is a reason
- 27:10Speaker 3: why there. I think there's actually only three hundred members
- 27:15Speaker 3: of Augusta National and the initiation fee is kind of
- 27:21Speaker 3: like a well guarded secret, but we all know it's
- 27:25Speaker 3: at least six figures if not higher now but it's
- 27:28Speaker 3: by in it's truly by.
- 27:29Speaker 5: By invitation only.
- 27:30Speaker 6: Yeah, is that a situation like and because in the
- 27:34Speaker 6: crag member So yeah, the the anything that has it
- 27:37Speaker 6: the Women's Masters is not a major for.
- 27:39Speaker 7: No, no, no, it's it's it's it's considered.
- 27:41Speaker 12: Uh.
- 27:41Speaker 3: I think it's called the Augusta National Women's Amateur is
- 27:45Speaker 3: what it's called. And and I mean I will say
- 27:48Speaker 3: they do publicize it well that that started filling up
- 27:51Speaker 3: my my my newsfeed, uh last weekend. But it's definitely
- 27:56Speaker 3: it definitely doesn't get the coverage that you would think
- 28:01Speaker 3: a major tournament at Augusta National would get.
- 28:03Speaker 6: Anything at Augusta should be as as well publicized, as
- 28:09Speaker 6: well attended as like just anything that that you would
- 28:12Speaker 6: think that has to do with with that place in general.
- 28:18Speaker 6: And yeah, I'm I'm like I have I have actually
- 28:22Speaker 6: never put myself into the lottery to to get a ticket.
- 28:27Speaker 5: So how does that like? Do you?
- 28:28Speaker 3: You just you just go to the website, you fill
- 28:30Speaker 3: in your information and then you're in. I mean that now,
- 28:33Speaker 3: whether you get picked, you never know. But the what
- 28:38Speaker 3: I have seen, I have seen the videos of the
- 28:41Speaker 3: grown men who get that green box in the mail
- 28:44Speaker 3: and openly weep yeah, and like their wives are like,
- 28:48Speaker 3: you didn't even do that on our.
- 28:52Speaker 7: Nope.
- 28:54Speaker 6: Oh, I mean but yeah, I can't imagine what that
- 28:58Speaker 6: would be like to know that you've won, like you said,
- 29:03Speaker 6: even if it's for the practice rounds.
- 29:05Speaker 3: You know, just take take something that you are truly
- 29:09Speaker 3: passionate about or have only read or seen, and then
- 29:13Speaker 3: you actually, like you go to Italy and you've you've
- 29:17Speaker 3: seen pictures of the coliseum and you watched Gladiator and
- 29:20Speaker 3: you kind of know the history of it. But to
- 29:22Speaker 3: actually walk and know that you are you're walking on
- 29:26Speaker 3: stones that have been there for two thousand years and
- 29:30Speaker 3: what all transpired in this structure which has survived millennia.
- 29:37Speaker 3: I'm not saying Augusta National is that, but it kind
- 29:42Speaker 3: of is. For this, for yeah, for this, at least
- 29:46Speaker 3: for me in my lifetime the other thing, and I
- 29:47Speaker 3: know we got it, we got it. We're coming up
- 29:48Speaker 3: against commercial break. They have been posting pictures of Augusta
- 29:54Speaker 3: National in the nineteen forties and showing the exact spots
- 29:59Speaker 3: compared to what they look like today. I tell you,
- 30:02Speaker 3: I'm not joking some of these pictures. This course looks
- 30:05Speaker 3: like Brian Muni, I mean, what it looks like today
- 30:10Speaker 3: is this is what over sixty years of just genius
- 30:20Speaker 3: landscape architecture to transform a place, to make it look
- 30:24Speaker 3: truly beautiful because those old Now, I know the course
- 30:27Speaker 3: was challenging, but prior to to especially the colorization of television, man,
- 30:33Speaker 3: it looked dumpy.
- 30:34Speaker 6: Well, but then that's with so many other thing like
- 30:38Speaker 6: I doubt that they were putting that much money into
- 30:41Speaker 6: it because they didn't have the the broadcast rights.
- 30:44Speaker 3: That suppose I mean, I've also heard that if you
- 30:48Speaker 3: if you go to Augusta National off of this period.
- 30:51Speaker 7: Of time, I have heard that it is it don't
- 30:55Speaker 7: look this nice.
- 30:56Speaker 6: Yeah, they work to build it up to this and
- 30:59Speaker 6: then let it. Let me go coming up in just
- 31:02Speaker 6: a moment, we've got the high school report here and
- 31:05Speaker 6: then Jared now I'll be back right after that. But

- 34:16Speaker 15: The Houston Texans defense is elite, built to win now.
- 34:21Speaker 15: Their quarterback play was the main reason they weren't able
- 34:25Speaker 15: to get further. This is not personal with CJ.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Stroud.
- 34:27Speaker 15: It's me looking at the Houston Texans realizing you don't
- 34:30Speaker 15: have this window forever and if your quarterback is an impediment.
- 34:34Speaker 15: That's a serious conversation that they should.
- 34:36Speaker 5: Be having unsportsmanlike.

- 34:48Speaker 16: Yes, Tony, Tony, Tony and.
- 34:54Speaker 10: DDA Queen, Welcome into the High School Report.
- 34:59Speaker 13: I'm call Raptly and today we're jumping out to the
- 35:01Speaker 13: players Fun Center phone line to visit with the head
- 35:04Speaker 13: coach of the Rudder Rangers baseball team, mister Bailey Durramus coach.
- 35:09Speaker 5: Thanks for joining me today, of course, thanks for having
- 35:11Speaker 5: me man.
- 35:12Speaker 13: So you're Rangers off to a solid start and district
- 35:14Speaker 13: play three and four the district record. So looking at
- 35:18Speaker 13: the last you know, first two seasons that you were
- 35:20Speaker 13: the head coach at Rudder, it's one of the toughest
- 35:22Speaker 13: districts in the state, you know, in five A with
- 35:26Speaker 13: both of the local schools Konsul and College Station in
- 35:29Speaker 13: there along with you Lake Creek being one of the
- 35:31Speaker 13: best teams in Brenham as well. So how have you
- 35:34Speaker 13: been able to improve that performance from the last two
- 35:37Speaker 13: seasons and be able to build up to where you
- 35:38Speaker 13: are now?
- 35:39Speaker 8: Yeah? Man, I mean I knew and I took this job,
- 35:42Speaker 8: it was going to be a really tough district. Again,
- 35:45Speaker 8: my first year was the last year of the Magnolia
- 35:49Speaker 8: Maguest district because that was before Huntsville, and I'd like
- 35:52Speaker 8: to think that was a little harder. So that was
- 35:55Speaker 8: a rough first year for us, rough first year for
- 35:58Speaker 8: me figuring out how to navigate things, how to go
- 36:00Speaker 8: about it. And then last year we just kind of,
- 36:04Speaker 8: I like to think we turned a page. We kind
- 36:05Speaker 8: of got hard at work, really good offseason, getting the
- 36:09Speaker 8: weight room more, kind of finding our identity and who
- 36:12Speaker 8: we are, realizing that we can't do everything perfect. There'd
- 36:15Speaker 8: be a lot to ask, but there's some things that
- 36:17Speaker 8: our group of guys do really well, and so we
- 36:19Speaker 8: just kind of focused in on those, tried to execute
- 36:21Speaker 8: in those areas and reached i think eleven or twelve
- 36:25Speaker 8: wins last year, first time Rudders reached double digit wins
- 36:29Speaker 8: since I was a senior in high school, which is
- 36:31Speaker 8: twenty eighteen, and I know toed some people that's not
- 36:33Speaker 8: that long ago. So when we were pleased last year,
- 36:36Speaker 8: and then again you get into district play and high
- 36:39Speaker 8: school baseball is it's so funny because in every other
- 36:42Speaker 8: league of baseball, whether it's collegiate ball, major leagues, it's
- 36:46Speaker 8: every game matters, right. Obviously there's a visional on conference
- 36:49Speaker 8: games that matter more than others, but at the same time,
- 36:51Speaker 8: every win is helping you out a little bit. And
- 36:53Speaker 8: in high school baseball, man, what you do up to
- 36:55Speaker 8: the district play does not matter. So we were ten
- 36:58Speaker 8: and one, ten and two going the district play, they
- 37:00Speaker 8: felt really good, and we rolled in there and we
- 37:02Speaker 8: just got smoked. And we had to help these guys
- 37:05Speaker 8: figure out, as hey, who we are before district play
- 37:07Speaker 8: doesn't really matter. These games, we want to win them all.
- 37:10Speaker 8: We want to play to win always as a team.
- 37:14Speaker 8: And then we had to realize that once we got
- 37:17Speaker 8: to district play, like these are the games that only matter.
- 37:19Speaker 8: And so we kind of we focused on that this offseason,
- 37:22Speaker 8: talked about it a lot in team meetings leading up
- 37:24Speaker 8: to district play this year, and we realized that, hey,
- 37:28Speaker 8: what we did beforehand and we got off two rough
- 37:29Speaker 8: start this year, man, like we were I mean, I
- 37:31Speaker 8: think O and A trying to figure out who the
- 37:33Speaker 8: heck we are return to everyone should be three times better,
- 37:37Speaker 8: And at the moment we were three times worse, and
- 37:39Speaker 8: so we had some figuring out to do, had to
- 37:41Speaker 8: get back to the drawing board, and then we kind
- 37:43Speaker 8: of rolled in the district play against Kansauls, which is
- 37:45Speaker 8: a really tough series, a really well coached team. Coach
- 37:48Speaker 8: Llenderton does a great job over there as guys. Unfortunately,
- 37:51Speaker 8: that was a really big series for us. When you
- 37:53Speaker 8: look at the standings as they are today, it was
- 37:56Speaker 8: just unfortunate for us that we were kind of still
- 37:58Speaker 8: figuring out pieces and putting piece together in a series
- 38:01Speaker 8: that really matters. So we dropped two there and then
- 38:03Speaker 8: picked it back up with Huntsville and got the first
- 38:05Speaker 8: sweep and what I believe is the six years of
- 38:08Speaker 8: the program to get a district sweep. So we let
- 38:10Speaker 8: our guys celebrate that a little bit, take them out
- 38:12Speaker 8: the chillis that night, let them taste that a little
- 38:14Speaker 8: bit and see what it's like, and then just had
- 38:16Speaker 8: a really good approach and a really good plan going
- 38:18Speaker 8: into the Montgomery series. I got to scout them given
- 38:23Speaker 8: that it was our bye week, and I watched both games,
- 38:25Speaker 8: watched every pitch, every out, pulled up a notebook full
- 38:29Speaker 8: of stuff that we wanted to attack on in areas
- 38:31Speaker 8: we think we could take advantage of them, and we
- 38:33Speaker 8: knew the plan going into that week was we don't
- 38:36Speaker 8: have to win them both, win them both awesome back
- 38:38Speaker 8: to back teams and be insane. Let's be a little
- 38:40Speaker 8: realistic these teams that we play in this district. We're
- 38:44Speaker 8: not a well staffed enough program and well staffed enough
- 38:48Speaker 8: team to be able to roll out there and think, hey,
- 38:50Speaker 8: I can throw my two guys into their best of
- 38:52Speaker 8: you guys and we can win both. We got to
- 38:54Speaker 8: be a little realistic and realizing who we are and
- 38:56Speaker 8: what we're up against. And so the plan going into
- 38:59Speaker 8: the week of Montgomery series of the split. We got
- 39:02Speaker 8: that that first win on that Tuesday, and I mean
- 39:05Speaker 8: the plane to work at the works at the par
- 39:07Speaker 8: and so it's a long winded answer, but we feel
- 39:10Speaker 8: really good. Man, We're in a really good position. We
- 39:11Speaker 8: had a team meeting to day kind of figuring out
- 39:13Speaker 8: where we're at, what we got to do, here's the focus,
- 39:15Speaker 8: here's the teams we need to really focus on beating.
- 39:18Speaker 8: And then it's kind of a must win for us
- 39:20Speaker 8: tomorrow night. So again we feel good. We're we're finally
- 39:24Speaker 8: in the hunt which is a really good place to
- 39:26Speaker 8: be in. Our guys really enjoy it's a little buzz
- 39:28Speaker 8: going around un or high school both. The job is
- 39:30Speaker 8: far from French and we got to stay locked in
- 39:32Speaker 8: for the next fifteen days.
- 39:33Speaker 13: So you mentioned you brought back, you know, almost everybody
- 39:35Speaker 13: from last year. You had three freshmen who were pretty
- 39:38Speaker 13: much starters throughout the season last year that are back.
- 39:41Speaker 13: How valuable is that to have those kids that are
- 39:43Speaker 13: varsity players from you know, their first year in high
- 39:47Speaker 13: school and being able to coach them throughout throughout high
- 39:49Speaker 13: school and even you know, again this year, you have
- 39:52Speaker 13: a pitcher who's a freshman that's thrown a lot of
- 39:54Speaker 13: innings for y'all. How different is that having a team
- 39:57Speaker 13: that's you know, pretty underclassmen heavy versus upper clas that's
- 40:00Speaker 13: maybe a little more upperclassmen heavy this year.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Yeah, So we have.
- 40:03Speaker 8: Three freshmen that returned from last year that are still
- 40:08Speaker 8: starting this year or catcher, a shortstop, and an outfielder
- 40:11Speaker 8: for us. And then we had a freshman last year
- 40:12Speaker 8: who was a really good player, banged up his thumb
- 40:15Speaker 8: and practice and inner squad and was out the rest
- 40:17Speaker 8: of the year and he's back this year, and he's
- 40:19Speaker 8: been a really big piece for us and meant to
- 40:21Speaker 8: answer that question, man, is one of the best parts
- 40:24Speaker 8: of this job is watching kids grow mature from when
- 40:27Speaker 8: they get here as a fourteen year old and a freshman,
- 40:29Speaker 8: when they're seventeen or eighteen year old, as a senior
- 40:33Speaker 8: my first year, as the group of guys that are
- 40:35Speaker 8: juniors now, and so I'm really getting to see that
- 40:37Speaker 8: gross how high schoolers mature, how they take on different
- 40:41Speaker 8: leadership roles in different areas. So that's the fun part
- 40:44Speaker 8: of the job, and it's good to see some of
- 40:46Speaker 8: that payoffs where you're not all just looking out wins
- 40:49Speaker 8: and losses, but we're trying to build these men up
- 40:51Speaker 8: to be better young men off the baseball field more importantly.
- 40:55Speaker 8: So yeah, I mean it's been really good. The three
- 40:58Speaker 8: freshmen that are playing for us are really good players,
- 41:00Speaker 8: gonna be really good players for us for a long time.
- 41:02Speaker 8: I like to think we're still a young roster. I
- 41:04Speaker 8: really do. We're going to graduate I think eight seniors,
- 41:08Speaker 8: three of which that are starting for us, but we
- 41:12Speaker 8: got some guys that'll be ready to go. And other
- 41:14Speaker 8: than that, I mean, we're gonna be returning probably uh
- 41:16Speaker 8: seven seven guys in our lineup for next year.
- 41:19Speaker 13: The matchup this week the series with Montgomery. Lake Creek
- 41:23Speaker 13: took the loss on Tuesday night on the road. But
- 41:26Speaker 13: one thing I've noticed with all of the teams in
- 41:29Speaker 13: this district is that the home team wins more than not.
- 41:32Speaker 10: It's played a pretty big role in district play this year.
- 41:35Speaker 13: Specifically, you know, y'all have that first hand beating Montgomery
- 41:38Speaker 13: at home and then losing that close one on the road.
- 41:41Speaker 13: So how are you planning, you know, that get back
- 41:43Speaker 13: game on Friday night against Lake Creek.
- 41:46Speaker 8: Yeah, it's an interesting scenario that we're in. We actually
- 41:49Speaker 8: one of our top arms, if not our top arm.
- 41:52Speaker 8: It's been pretty dominant for us this year. Got banged
- 41:55Speaker 8: up in that Montgomery series and he's likely out the
- 42:01Speaker 8: rest of the year. I'll leave names and stuff out
- 42:03Speaker 8: just in case he's get an MRI on Sunday on
- 42:05Speaker 8: Friday and we'll see where he's at next week. So
- 42:07Speaker 8: knowing that that changed their plans a lot.
- 42:11Speaker 2: And yeah, the home.
- 42:12Speaker 8: Series are really big in this district, especially at our field.
- 42:15Speaker 8: Like we don't have the nicest field in the state
- 42:17Speaker 8: of Texas, but we know the nooks and crannies of it,
- 42:20Speaker 8: and we know the winds blowing in ninety nine point
- 42:22Speaker 8: nine percent of the time anyone plays here. And with
- 42:25Speaker 8: this pitching staff that we have, it's not high v
- 42:27Speaker 8: lovel but lots of strikes and lots of breaking balls.
- 42:29Speaker 8: Guys like to lift the ball. Every team in this
- 42:31Speaker 8: district is a pretty high ball and air rate, and
- 42:33Speaker 8: we know that many they're gonna get the ball in
- 42:35Speaker 8: the air, they're gonna get under it, and they're gonna
- 42:36Speaker 8: lean on some. But at our field, it's the graveyard.
- 42:39Speaker 8: It's like three forty to the stinking corners and like
- 42:41Speaker 8: four fifteen to dead center. It plays like a big
- 42:44Speaker 8: league ballpark. It's huge. Man, I don't know who designed it,
- 42:46Speaker 8: but it's a huge and that honestly helps our advantage. Again,
- 42:49Speaker 8: we're not an offense that runs the ball of the yard,
- 42:51Speaker 8: so we don't play for that, and we're not a defense.
- 42:54Speaker 8: We're not a defense, and a pitching staff that lives
- 42:55Speaker 8: with a strikeout, so balls and plays our friend. The
- 42:59Speaker 8: LA week's series was different because we knew that we
- 43:02Speaker 8: just need to split again. Sweeping is is awesome, like
- 43:05Speaker 8: I just mentioned earlier, but we didn't have to do that.
- 43:07Speaker 8: We just know we need to win one, and so
- 43:09Speaker 8: we run some openers out there, some lower bullpen arms
- 43:12Speaker 8: that are gonna fill up the strike zone, knowing they're
- 43:14Speaker 8: gonna get buried a little bit, rolling the dice and
- 43:16Speaker 8: helping luck goes our way here and there. But we
- 43:19Speaker 8: just in our team meetings this week, we talked about, hey,
- 43:21Speaker 8: we're gonna roll the openers out there, and by the
- 43:22Speaker 8: third or fourth inning, we'll know are we selling out
- 43:24Speaker 8: to win this game, this the one this week, or
- 43:26Speaker 8: are we gonna pump the fourth and long and save
- 43:28Speaker 8: all our bullets for Thursday. And that's just kind of
- 43:30Speaker 8: the situation. The corner we got backed into yesterday. One
- 43:34Speaker 8: is zero in the second. That's typically a position this
- 43:37Speaker 8: late in the year where I'd go to all probably
- 43:39Speaker 8: our ace and say, hey, you got to grow out
- 43:40Speaker 8: there and chase them down in six innings. Now, I
- 43:42Speaker 8: like your odds for six innings of baseball. But again,
- 43:44Speaker 8: when you're down in ace, you're down a starting arm.
- 43:47Speaker 8: It was hard to do that. I know I got one,
- 43:48Speaker 8: one chance to go get it, and if I roll
- 43:51Speaker 8: my starter out there, the game yesterday looks a lot different.
- 43:53Speaker 8: Maybe we lose one to zero, maybe we'll lose ten
- 43:55Speaker 8: to nine. But again, losing by one and losing by
- 43:57Speaker 8: ten is the same. Right now, we know that if
- 44:00Speaker 8: we lost and we used our bullets and we didn't
- 44:02Speaker 8: have any for tomorrow, we're going to be in a
- 44:03Speaker 8: tough position. So we get to save that. Might them
- 44:06Speaker 8: have their win, let them have their fun. But we
- 44:07Speaker 8: got a really good game plan moving in tomorrow. Win's
- 44:10Speaker 8: gonna be blown in plus fifteen miles an hour out
- 44:12Speaker 8: of the south. This is a team that has a
- 44:14Speaker 8: pretty high ball and air rate. We got an opener
- 44:17Speaker 8: to start the game, hoping he can get us six
- 44:19Speaker 8: outs and then we're going to go to our go
- 44:20Speaker 8: to arm and hope the offense can keep up and
- 44:22Speaker 8: all those things. I think we're prepared for. I think
- 44:25Speaker 8: that when we can execute makeavn.
- 44:26Speaker 13: Yeah, that's something I don't think gets talked about enough.
- 44:29Speaker 13: With the diamond sports of baseball and softball, you have
- 44:32Speaker 13: fields that aren't the same size. You know, with football
- 44:34Speaker 13: and basketball, the court the field's always the same, but
- 44:36Speaker 13: with baseball it can make a really big impact, you know,
- 44:39Speaker 13: depending on the style of style of play of each team.
- 44:41Speaker 13: So it's really always interesting to me here coaches perspective
- 44:44Speaker 13: on that well.
- 44:45Speaker 10: I appreciate your time today, good luck this Friday and
- 44:48Speaker 10: the rest of the season.

- 50:15Speaker 6: shout out North Carolina or North California is when Carla
- 50:19Speaker 6: is here. So sports money. We talk about that a lot.
- 50:25Speaker 6: And there's the two things that popped up for me,
- 50:29Speaker 6: and they really do go together. You sent me the
- 50:33Speaker 6: other day about the possible five year and it's the
- 50:38Speaker 6: President put it out there and his executive order, which
- 50:41Speaker 6: is not going.
- 50:42Speaker 5: To go anywhere.
- 50:44Speaker 6: But now the NCAA is actually talking about doing a
- 50:48Speaker 6: five year eligibility, which at one point that's what it
- 50:51Speaker 6: was anyway, is that you had five years, but they're
- 50:57Speaker 6: going to put that out there. And I also like
- 51:00Speaker 6: how much the Big Ten is going to be pulling
- 51:03Speaker 6: in just from the NC Double A basketball tournament that
- 51:07Speaker 6: that just happened, and going back to the finance of sport,
- 51:11Speaker 6: and you and I have talked about this as far
- 51:13Speaker 6: as like what the NC Double A is is was
- 51:16Speaker 6: supposed to do what they haven't been able to do,
- 51:19Speaker 6: and how it is still the the he who remains
- 51:23Speaker 6: of college sports, and they like, none of this is
- 51:27Speaker 6: ever going to matter anymore because the the lawsuits are
- 51:31Speaker 6: already happening, and I can see that that's going to
- 51:32Speaker 6: come up for that five year eligibility rule now, But
- 51:35Speaker 6: it all still goes back to the money, like they
- 51:37Speaker 6: they're not going to be able to constrict what the college,
- 51:41Speaker 6: what the athletes are able to do, based on the
- 51:44Speaker 6: money that they are always going to be able to
- 51:46Speaker 6: bring in based on the TV dollars.
- 51:48Speaker 19: No, and.
- 51:50Speaker 7: This attempt to.
- 51:53Speaker 3: Put the genie back in the bottle when genie's been
- 51:57Speaker 3: out for good seven years.
- 51:58Speaker 9: Yeah, and.
- 52:01Speaker 5: That has been lifting weights and taking the genie is strong.
- 52:04Speaker 3: Genie is strong, and more importantly, it's I mean, proof
- 52:08Speaker 3: is in the pudding. There are people willing to commit
- 52:11Speaker 3: money to make athletic departments which have languished in mediocrity
- 52:16Speaker 3: and frankly losing into viable, winnable competitors.
- 52:24Speaker 7: You don't have to look.
- 52:25Speaker 3: Anywhere else than that armpit up in the Panhandle. But
- 52:31Speaker 3: guess what those tech grads who've been working in oil
- 52:37Speaker 3: and gas for the last twenty thirty years and have
- 52:40Speaker 3: amassed millions, if not billions of dollars, they're willing to
- 52:44Speaker 3: commit because, you know what, they want to see their
- 52:46Speaker 3: school succeed.
- 52:47Speaker 7: And that story is going to repeat. I mean, look
- 52:50Speaker 7: at Michigan.
- 52:50Speaker 3: Michigan has like seven hundred and fifty thousand, A lot
- 52:54Speaker 3: of them, it's insane, and a lot of them are
- 52:58Speaker 3: they're in business and their attorney if they're male, they're
- 53:01Speaker 3: all watching the History Channel all the time. And when
- 53:04Speaker 3: they're not doing that, they're sending their money to UM.
- 53:06Speaker 3: It's going towards athletics. And that's why you know, they
- 53:11Speaker 3: bought a national champion chip with Jim Harbaugh, and of
- 53:15Speaker 3: course he was doing unscrupulous things and got out of
- 53:17Speaker 3: there after winning.
- 53:19Speaker 5: They don't care, they don't They got their national.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Chip, they got their national championship, and somehow they still
- 53:23Speaker 3: get to sit on the moral high grounds first for
- 53:26Speaker 3: whatever reason. But when you look at the Big Ten,
- 53:29Speaker 3: and this is what's crazy is I'm like, how's the
- 53:32Speaker 3: Big ten getting so much money just from Oh, that's right.
- 53:35Speaker 3: UCLA is a Big Ten school now, yes, But and
- 53:40Speaker 3: we talked about.
- 53:41Speaker 7: This going into the Sweet sixteen. Was the standpoint.
- 53:44Speaker 3: Look at how many Big ten schools are in the tournament, yep,
- 53:49Speaker 3: comparative to what your tradition, what you would think your
- 53:53Speaker 3: traditional basketball powers would be in the other blue bloods.
- 53:57Speaker 7: The money is driving everything. Tell Television is.
- 54:01Speaker 3: Where you are extracting more money because it's the only
- 54:04Speaker 3: thing that people watch in real time. They do not
- 54:08Speaker 3: watch on the tape delayed. They do not watch They
- 54:10Speaker 3: do not just watch clips. They watch sports in real time.
- 54:13Speaker 3: And that's I mean, that's one of the few to
- 54:15Speaker 3: I mean, we were talking about it during the break
- 54:19Speaker 3: the Pit, which is probably right now the most popular
- 54:22Speaker 3: drama on television. I put that in air quotes because
- 54:27Speaker 3: I guess it's secretly a streamer. You can you can
- 54:32Speaker 3: you you want to watch it as soon as it
- 54:33Speaker 3: comes out, but I mean you can kind of time shift.
- 54:36Speaker 7: Yep, what we have on the TV right now with
- 54:38Speaker 7: the Masters.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Again, I have been watching it since nine o'clock. It's
- 54:42Speaker 3: been on my TV or on my screen since nine
- 54:44Speaker 3: o'clock today. Then that's not going to change.
- 54:49Speaker 7: For the next three days all.
- 54:52Speaker 5: And it's all.
- 54:52Speaker 6: And the other thing that I point that that is
- 54:54Speaker 6: is so important when it comes to this is you
- 54:57Speaker 6: talk like the NCAA A may want to try to
- 55:01Speaker 6: do this.
- 55:01Speaker 5: However, it's not just the athletes that are going to
- 55:03Speaker 5: fight fight it.
- 55:04Speaker 16: Now.
- 55:05Speaker 6: You talked about whether individual school presidents will want to,
- 55:09Speaker 6: but they're not. The presidents aren't going to want to
- 55:11Speaker 6: because their donor bases aren't going to go exactly.
- 55:14Speaker 3: I mean that this this idea that you can push
- 55:19Speaker 3: a button and everything's going to magically be twenty fourteen. Again.
- 55:26Speaker 7: It's I mean, God, I don't want to.
- 55:31Speaker 3: Go down the political landscape, but I mean that's kind
- 55:34Speaker 3: of where we are right now.
- 55:34Speaker 7: From the standpoint of you can't go back. The fact
- 55:39Speaker 7: of the matter is with you had nine Supreme Court.
- 55:43Speaker 3: Justices laugh in the face of the NCAA saying how
- 55:46Speaker 3: have you gotten away with this for this long? Because
- 55:50Speaker 3: it is so abhorrent that you are making all this
- 55:54Speaker 3: money and the athlete, the athletes who are the backbone
- 55:58Speaker 3: of how you are making this money, get nothing. In fact,
- 56:01Speaker 3: they get penalized for even trying to make a little
- 56:04Speaker 3: bit of money before in iol.
- 56:06Speaker 6: And again the Big Ten earned seventy million dollars just
- 56:10Speaker 6: from the NCAA basketball tournament. I forget what they said
- 56:14Speaker 6: that they got from the college football playoffs, but again
- 56:17Speaker 6: that's all money going back to There is zero chance
- 56:21Speaker 6: that this is going to ever get going back to
- 56:24Speaker 6: a five year elegator, because everybody's going to fight it
- 56:27Speaker 6: because as an athlete, now you are constricting my opportunity
- 56:30Speaker 6: to make money by saying I can only do this
- 56:32Speaker 6: for five years.
- 56:33Speaker 5: Now, something else that you can.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Do that as exactly and more to the point, how
- 56:36Speaker 3: are you going to restrict the athletes? But yet coaches
- 56:39Speaker 3: have free range to do it, do whatever. And by
- 56:42Speaker 3: the way, the vast majority of these coaches their state employees.
- 56:45Speaker 3: They are also some of the hot They are typically
- 56:47Speaker 3: the highest paid state employees.
- 56:49Speaker 6: In most of those cases. Coming back after the top
- 56:51Speaker 6: of the hour, we are going to get into some
- 56:53Speaker 6: NBA talk and talk about how the standings are going
- 56:55Speaker 6: with that. But we're back in just a second. You're
- 56:57Speaker 6: listening to Chip Howard Sports Talk taken over by Jason
- 56:59Speaker 6: and Jared Sports Ready eleven fifty am the Zone nine
- 57:01Speaker 6: through seven of them.
