- 0:29Welcome to the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio from Boise, Idaho. This

- 0:50slash Radio Detectives. Well, before we get started, I want to let
- 0:54you know today's programs brought to you by the financial support of our listeners.
- 0:58Thanks so much for your while, we're going to bring you a new series
- 1:03this We're only going to run it for two weeks, so if you don't
- 1:06like it too much, don't worry. We'll be bringing you the Casebook of
- 1:10Gregory Hood. But our last new show of twenty and thirteen is Mister Chameleon.
- 1:17And Mister Chameleon came from the radio factory of Frank and Anne Hummer.
- 1:25Now we say radio factory, it's because they turn out just an amazing number
- 1:30of shows. Mostly they were syndicated programs such as Soap Overas. And the
- 1:38most amazing thing about this is they were doing well over a dozen shows and
- 1:47Anne Hummer was basically writing out all the plots and then sending it to the
- 1:52writers to go ahead and tell the story. Writing all these plots keeping them
- 1:55straight is a challenge. Well, this one is a detective melodrama and it
- 2:04stars Carl Swinson, who we heard way back in I think it was our
- 2:08second season as the old time radio voice of Father Brown. This series aired
- 2:15over CBS from July of nineteen forty eight to August of nineteen fifty three,
- 2:24with only a two month hiatus thrown in, so we only have two episodes,
- 2:30one from near the beginning of the show is Ron and then another from
- 2:35its end. So here now from December the twenty ninth of nineteen forty eight
- 2:42is the Perfect Made Murder Case. Next, Mister Chameleon and the Perfect Made
- 2:50Murder Case. Tonight we again present the famous Mister Chameleon of Central Police Headquarters
- 3:23in his famous Cases of Crime and Murder, brought to you by the makers
- 3:27of genuine Bayer Aspirin. Mister Cameleon, as you know, is the famous
- 3:31and dreaded detective who frequently uses a disguise to track down a killer, a
- 3:37disguise which at all times is recognized by the audience. Tonight we give you
- 3:42mister chameleon. In the Perfect Made Murder Case. The scene opens in one
- 3:55of New York's most fabulous mansions, the home of Raymond Cole, and we
- 4:00see a young woman about to leave. Her hand is on the knob of
- 4:03the front door when she is interrupted by a maid, whom we hear saying
- 4:08the words that lead to a gruesome, fantastic murder. Excuse me, miss
- 4:12Laura. Can I see you a moment before you go? I haven't any
- 4:15time now, Fannie. But this is important, miss Laura, terrible important.
- 4:18Well what is it? Then? I want to give them a notice?
- 4:21Mom? Your notice? You mean you're leaving? Well I thought you
- 4:26were a fixture in this house, Fernie. But that's just it, Mom,
- 4:30I am a fixture here. Then what's this talk about giving notice?
- 4:32What's wrong? If it's more wage? I mean, it's not that,
- 4:35Mum, it's a it's that. Yes, it's the time. I'm going
- 4:40to marry your father. You're what going to marry your father? That's what?
- 4:46Oh? Well, it don't seem to set very well with you.
- 4:49But are you completely and utterly mad? This is the most outrageous thing I've
- 4:54ever heard in my life. Oh it is is it. Well, let
- 4:57me tell you, I'm as good as you will. Pack up your things
- 4:59and get out of it his house as fast as you care. I'm not
- 5:01packing and I'm not leaving. I'm marrying into this house. Huh. Just
- 5:05put that in your pipe and smoke it out instantly. I say, I'm
- 5:10not going any further than my own room. You'll find me there if you
- 5:14want to be coming up later and telling me you're sorry, Tatar, dearie,
- 5:23John, John, come here, John, don't shout, Laura.
- 5:27I heard it all. Great. Heaven's on a mess. We can't let
- 5:30father do this. He's gone mad. Oh that cheap, terrible creature.
- 5:33Tell you, Laura, hysterics won't help. Besides, we don't want to
- 5:36wake the old man up and get him on our necks. We've got to
- 5:40think fast. What are we going to do? What can we do?
- 5:43This is too dread. Listen, Laura, listen. You stay right here,
- 5:46Laura, and watch every door he as love as you can. If
- 5:49anybody comes, you mean, father of that horrible fan, anybody. I've
- 5:53got the combination. The father's safe, he say, what are you going
- 5:57to do? John? I know he keeps his will there the first thing
- 6:00to do. He may have changed it in Fanny's paper. If he did,
- 6:03I'll burn it up. And some time later we hear the Commissioner of
- 6:14Police assigning another famous murder case to the astute and feared mister Chameleon, the
- 6:18man of many faces and disguises. Oh here you are, Chamelion. A
- 6:23murder in Park Avenue. Oh top draw case, hey, commissioner, that's
- 6:28for you to decide, old man. The murder occurred in the Raymond Colby
- 6:30house. You mean the mysteriously rich Raymond Colby's being killed. Oh not Colby
- 6:34himself, Chameleon. A maid in his house, girl named Fanny Bilkins.
- 6:41Throat slashed open. Better get out there, right, Commissioner. I'll take
- 6:45Detective Dave Ononnold with me. Ye. Oh here you are, Dave,
- 6:47Yes, sir, you come with me, please, By Commissioner, I
- 6:53suppose the case we're on is that parlor made murder at Raymond Colby's house.
- 6:57Yes, that's it. I guess it'll be one of those jobs where the
- 7:00chauffeur killed some poor girl because he was in love with her and caught the
- 7:03butler getting away with her. Have no idea. Let's get the car and
- 7:06buzz out there. Oh, personally, I'd be more interested if Old Koby
- 7:12himself was the victim here. He's a queer character, the absent minded professor
- 7:15type. He invented something somewhere that made him fabulously rich. Here's the house,
- 7:32mister Chamelion. Yes, we're a very pretty girl already holding the door
- 7:35open. Come ahead. Oh, I'm so glad you came. You are
- 7:40from the police, aren't you. Yes, my name is Chameleon. This
- 7:43is Detective Arnold, and you are I'm Laura Colby. Come in, mister
- 7:46Comelian. Thank you. I'm rather surprised to see you here. Surprised,
- 7:50miss Laura. Why we didn't expect to see such a famous detective as you
- 7:55on an unimportant case like this. Murther is always important, Judio Grady or
- 8:00the judge's lady. I see, I understand. The girl who was murdered
- 8:03was a housemaid in your father's house, Miss Lottery. Do you know anything
- 8:07about him? Practically nothing, mister Camellion, except that she was a perfect
- 8:11maid, really marvelous, and that she had perfectly wonderful references when she came.
- 8:16When was that? Oh, I don't really remember a couple of years
- 8:20ago, you know how those things are. Who found her body? One
- 8:22of the other help in the house. I suppose no. As a matter
- 8:26of fact, my father did. He and my brother John, that is,
- 8:28yes. Well, what actually happened was that one of the other servants,
- 8:33our cook, became annoyed when Fanny didn't turn up to save breakfast this
- 8:37morning. She thought she'd overslept. But when she knocked on Fanny's door and
- 8:41she didn't answer, she became alarmed and called my father. So he and
- 8:43your brother went up there, and when they opened the door they found her
- 8:46dead. Father was very much upset, and so was my brother. Odd
- 8:52that the cook didn't open the door herself when she got no answer to her
- 8:54knock. I hadn't thought of that. Oh, but I'm sure the cook
- 8:58wouldn't have killed her just because Fairny overslept scarcely, Miss latter Dave. Yes,
- 9:03mister Comellion, you go to the kitchen and talk to that cook.
- 9:05Find out what you can. I'm sure cook can't tell you any more than
- 9:09I have, mister Comedian. One never knows, miss Laura. She may
- 9:11be conceding something from you. I'll talk to the cook now, mister.
- 9:16In the meanwhile, miss Laura, perhaps your father or your brother will take
- 9:18me up to see the murdered girl's body. John's in the drawing room,
- 9:22mister Comellion, this story here, Oh John, this is mister Comellion,
- 9:26the famous detective. Oh how do you do, mister Comelion. Horrible thing,
- 9:31isn't it? But one never knows what will happen with servants these days,
- 9:33does one. What happened here, however, is a bit out of
- 9:37the usual run. Your sister says that you lead me to the murder room.
- 9:41Well, of course, mister comedian, I don't like the job,
- 9:43but just follow me and come. Here are the servants stairs. By the
- 9:52way, John, do you know anything about the murdered girl? I mean,
- 9:56do you ever noticed anything strange about her? Signs of being afraid,
- 10:00eight of something upset, anything like that. It's a funny thing, mister
- 10:03comedian. I never noticed any servant, particularly to me. They're just faceless
- 10:07people. All I know is that my sister always said Fanny was the perfect
- 10:11maid. Lara's all on a dinner, so you never find another one like
- 10:16her. Oh but here's her room, just about the size of a cell.
- 10:22But nothing. Ooh girl, a horrible sight. The head is almost
- 10:31seven if if you're finished with me, mister comedian, i'd like to get
- 10:37out of here. Oh yes, I understand, John. I'm sorry.
- 10:39I forgot that we policemen the more accustomed to sights like this than people like
- 10:43you. Yes, you go back to the drawing room. I'll see you
- 10:46there presently. Thank you, mister comedian. Poor Fanny, poor child.
- 10:56But if the dead can hear, you'll hear me promising to bring your murderer
- 10:58to the execution chamber. Mister comedian, nothing from the cook except what Laura
- 11:03Colby already told us. But get this, Yes, Dave, just as
- 11:07I was talking to the cook, the girl's father came in. The murdered
- 11:11girl's father, David, uh huh, a man named Ed Bilkins. He
- 11:15started accusing everybody of murder. He's pretty wild. I told him to stay
- 11:18put, but you'd talk to him. What do you get a load of
- 11:22him, mister comedian looks like a bad customer to me. Not so sorry
- 11:26as he acts. What that don't mean? I think he killed a girl.
- 11:31Dave, you call the Morgan have this body picked up. And the
- 11:33hair is the knife that slashed her throat? Who send it in for Prince?
- 11:37Okay, mister comedian, and then hold the murdered girl's father down below.
- 11:41I want to talk to John Colby and his father first. Well,
- 11:54John, feeling a bit mustered in now, forgive me for bringing you back
- 11:58to the murder room. It's all right, mister Camelion. Took a drink
- 12:01and feel better. So this is my father, Raymond Colby. Father.
- 12:05This is mister Camelion. Ah, mister mister Watt didn't catch the name.
- 12:09Chameleon of Central Police Headquarters. Mister Colbyn, please headquarters, you said,
- 12:15John, What's what's a police officer doing here investigating the murder of your maid,
- 12:18Fanny Bilkins. Mister Colbyn, Oh, to be sure you know things?
- 12:24Slip my memories and you say your name is chameleon, mister Colby.
- 12:28Chameleon. Unfortunate thing here, mister Canston. Chameleon. Oh, yes,
- 12:33chameleon. Last thing I ever expected my house murder. Just one of the
- 12:39servants that probably got usself into trouble. Queer A lot of servants, queer
- 12:41a lot never know about them, but still human, mister Colby. They
- 12:45sing and sigh, laugh and weep, feel happiness and sorrow just like you
- 12:48and me, and they probably suffer more. Um, quite right. I
- 12:52didn't think policemen thought that way, though. Well, what can I do
- 12:58for you? Tell me any little thing that you might know about the girl
- 13:01who was so inconsiderate as to be murdered in your quiet home. Why do
- 13:05you think, for instance, that she was killed? I have no idea,
- 13:09no idea. Never paid the attention to her, no attention to my
- 13:13daughter. Laura runs the house. You better ask her. I did,
- 13:15and she told me just as little as you and your son John have,
- 13:18mister Kelby. But I'll mister Comelion, Yes, Dave, you'd better come
- 13:22downstairs and talk to the man I told you was here. He's got something
- 13:26for you, something plenty hot. What what man, mister comedian? After
- 13:30I see him, I'll tell you John, he's going to tear this case
- 13:33wide open, John, wide open, tear it open, Detective Idolf.
- 13:37That's ridiculous of mine. Never mind, son, I fancied someone of Fanny's
- 13:41own class, and that it'll all turn out that the grosser's clerk or delivery
- 13:43boy killed Danny. Perhaps, mister Colby, I'll see you later, mister
- 13:48Colby John, get Laura in here right away. What fourth father? If
- 13:52you don't manage to hold yourself in, you and Laura will find yourselves up
- 13:56on a murder charge. Our mister comeleons Wan, one of the most penetrating
- 14:00men I've ever met. Up to the time you revealed excitement, our story
- 14:03is going down perfectly. Now be careful, my boy, I beg of
- 14:05you. I don't want to see my children convicted of murder. What are
- 14:20the murdered girl's father tell you, Dave to make you think he'd break this
- 14:24case wide open? You better hear it from his own lips, mister comedian.
- 14:28He's here on the butler's pantry all right, mister Belkins, here's mister
- 14:33Comeleion. I'll tell him what you told me. It's fair, terrible life.
- 14:37I brought my innocent daughter to this country, mister comedian. That's how
- 14:41she was done in. What do you mean, mister Belkins brought her to
- 14:45this country? Didn't you see her? Busy tell you a mister comedian.
- 14:48Detective Ronold wanted me to hear the story direct from you, Milkins, and
- 14:52let's have it. Please, can and me come from Australia where we should
- 14:54have stayed. Men should never have gone into service in this old duffer's house.
- 14:58Well, I still don't know what you mean, Bilkins. What I'm
- 15:01trying to drive home, sir, is that Fanny wouldn't have got herself engaged
- 15:05to marry the old man. Do you mean to say that your daughter,
- 15:09Fanny was going to marry Raymond Colby? I'm not lying when I say it,
- 15:11mister comedian. I warnder prop about Mary out of her class, but
- 15:16Danny had got American ideas in the bad quick wouldn't listen to her father,
- 15:22and it all wound up and her being killed, butchered like an animal.
- 15:26Are you certain that your daughter was going to marry this fabulously rich man.
- 15:31Look here is a wedding licensed, mister comedian. She gave it to me,
- 15:35saying mister Colby didn't want it round the house for his son or daughter
- 15:39might find it. But they they must have caught on some other way,
- 15:43sir, and that's why they they killed her, Dave. This is a
- 15:48standing. This license is genuine. Fanny Bilkins, age twenty four, Raymond
- 15:52Coby fifty six. That's only up, all right, mister, comedian.
- 15:54I had to check myself. I'm taking the blame for Fanny's murder on myself,
- 15:58mister comedian. I'm a a or. I should have given her a
- 16:00good sump on of me to leave this house, the locks of her thinking
- 16:06of marrying the locks of him. I always say that everyone's stay in his
- 16:08own class. Mister Bilkins, come with me, who upstairs to the drawing
- 16:14room, and I think we'll find mister Colby in the sun. John,
- 16:17don't make me face a darm mister Kamlion. But I can't face my daughter's
- 16:22dirty murderers. I can't do it that. I can't. I understand,
- 16:26Milkins. You wait here, then, Detective Arnold and I will go up
- 16:29alone. They are real gentlemen, sir, thank you. I'll never forget
- 16:34your cudness. Save come along, ifever. I saw one for the book,
- 16:41mister chameleon. This is it. If it's true, Dave, if
- 16:45it's true, what don't you believe it? You saw the marriage license,
- 16:49didn't you? Yes, indeed, Dave, and I also saw the shifty
- 16:53look and the bereaved mister Milkins eyes. They were looking for a babysitter,
- 16:57and it wouldn't be Bilkins. Here's the drawing room. Now, I expected
- 17:03to find your father and brother here. They're in father's study. Mister comedian.
- 17:07I've just talked to your murdered maid's father, so they have fathers too,
- 17:11just as you and I, Laura. But tell name? Yes,
- 17:15when was your father, Raymond Colby going to marry Fanny Bilkins? Oh?
- 17:21I didn't realize detectives on duty kidded people, mister comedian. Then you didn't
- 17:26know know what? You know? What answered the question? If you expect
- 17:29me to answer a ridiculous question like that, mister comedian, are you serious?
- 17:34Imagine father marrying a housemaid. It's too too silly that the daughter of
- 17:38the study Laura. Well, yes, I'll tell father. You want to
- 17:41see it, don't trouble Thank you are going alone, and you stay here.
- 17:48I hope I'm not interrupting. Mister Colby. Oh, I see you
- 17:52have your safe open. Something lost. Father has an idea he misplaced his
- 17:59will, mister comedian. I'm on the forgetful side, mister comedian. I'll
- 18:02find it later. Why not look in the fireplace, mister Colby, Wait
- 18:06a second, in the fireplace, mister comedian, Yes, John, Yes,
- 18:11here is what is left to your father as well. I'll but the
- 18:15top and away though. Uh, do you mind telling me why you tried
- 18:18to destroy it? John? My Son didn't mister Comeleon probably did it myself.
- 18:22I do such utterly stupid things without thinking, like arranging to marry your
- 18:27house made mister Colbn. Who what is this, mister Comedion? Father planning
- 18:32to marry that that that murdered girl, John murdered. Mister Comeleion, What
- 18:37in Heaven's name gives you the idea of father's going to marry her? Uh?
- 18:41This marriage license? John? Marriage John? I told you before that
- 18:48mister Comeleon was a very penetrating man. Trying to deceive him would be unfair
- 18:52to him and us. Then you were going to marry a mister Colvin.
- 18:56Oh no, no, not a tall mister Comedian. I simply I well,
- 19:00I really don't know why I took out that marriage license. Well,
- 19:03I'm sure it wasn't done simply to keep a perfect maid. Come mister Klby,
- 19:07don't you think it's time to stop trying to protect your children? Why
- 19:11should he try to protect Laura and me? Mister Comedian, We didn't kill
- 19:14that girl in my entire experience. I've never met with a clearer motive for
- 19:18murder. Never Dave right here, mister Comellion, what do we do arrest
- 19:22John and Laura? I no, not now, Dave. Bring the murdered
- 19:26girl's father in here immediately, and then we'll That's what I came up here
- 19:29to tell you, mister comedian. Philkens slipped out of the house while I
- 19:32went into the kitchen to get a drink of water. What I sent out
- 19:34a general alarm for him. Have this house guarded, Dave, and get
- 19:38this straight, mister Kirlby. If either your son or daughter attempts to leave
- 19:42here, they'll be taken in on suspicion of wilful murder, mister Camellion,
- 19:56And the perfect made murder case continues in in just a moment. When you
- 20:03have a cold, you need Bayer aspirin. Need it because it's important to
- 20:06you that you get quick relief from the headache, feverish feeling, and the
- 20:10muscular aches and pains that almost always accompany a coal And because Bayer aspirin gives

- 20:18cold before you do anything else, regardless of what you do to stop or
- 20:22shorten a cold. We believe your own doctor will tell you that this is
- 20:26sound advice, and its advice you can follow with confidence. For Bayer aspirin

- 21:02you get Bayer aspirin tablets for less than a penny apiece. And now back
- 21:11to mister Cameleon and the Perfect Maid murder case. Fanny Bilkins has been viciously
- 21:18murdered in the home of wealthy Raymond Colby, where she worked as a housemaid.
- 21:23Mister Camellon has discovered that Colby had planned to marry Fanny in spite of
- 21:27the bitter protests of his son John and his daughter Laura. During the investigation,
- 21:33the murdered girl's father, Edward Bilkins, has disappeared from the Colby home.
- 21:37But an hour later, when mister Cameleon impatiently paces his office at Headquarters,
- 21:41he suddenly finds that no general alarm is required to bring in Bilkins.
- 21:45For a strange surprise awaits him as Detective Dave Arnold rushes into his office,
- 21:49saying, mister Comellionton, I just brought in Fanny Milken's father in an ambulance,
- 21:55in an ambulance day. He's got a knife cut straight down his left
- 21:57cheek to missus throat by half an inch. But the ambulance dark patched him
- 22:02up on the way in, and now he's squawking loud to see you,
- 22:04he said, I mean Bilkins, Bilkins, what happened? Who trying to
- 22:11get you? I get down to the point without reasting words. Very good,
- 22:12sir, but it was a there one not satisfied with cruel and murdering
- 22:18my daughter Fenn Raymond Kowby, I mean his son John. But the fact
- 22:25is I don't know where did the attack take place. Bilkins in the Old
- 22:29Deafers Study that's where. How are you doing that? Nothing, sire,
- 22:32nothing, just nosing around it won't do Bilkins out of it. Mister Chamelion.
- 22:36Here's a bag the boys took off Bilkins on the way in. Give
- 22:40it a mister Copper. I never seen it before. It the fanny gave
- 22:44it to me. Looks like about a half million and Joe's balcons and they
- 22:49look familiar, very familiar. I don't know anything about them. Put Bilkans
- 22:56on detention. I got the answer to this guy, and look here,
- 22:59comeing in. I got a right so those jewels were planted. I'll be
- 23:03right back. Mister. Hello, mister comedian, this is John Colby.
- 23:11Most of my dead mother's jewelry has been stolen. Who discovered the last?
- 23:15John Butler did caught the robber in the act, but he got away.
- 23:19Can you come out here right away and not just now? John? You
- 23:22said only part of your mother's jewelry. Sterlen. The butler came in the
- 23:26room just in time to save the rest. I have got the stolen jewels,
- 23:30John, and the robber too. You've got the jewels and the robber
- 23:33both. I'm pretty positive I have, John, but I want to make
- 23:37sure before I definitely charge the men that we're holding. What do you mean,
- 23:41mister comedian? Instead of coming myself, John, I'm going to send
- 23:44one of our expert jewel men out there, and he'll bring the jewels I
- 23:47have here out too, but identification. I wish you'd come yourself, mister
- 23:51comedian instead of what's that? Father? All right, I'll ask mister comedian.
- 23:56Sorry, mister comedian, but father suggests yes. Father is worried about
- 24:02anybody coming with you, mister comedian, so is my sister Laura. How'd
- 24:06you come yourself? I'm sorry, I'm not a duel expert. I'm sending
- 24:10out headman Pierre Antoina right away and then I'll follow later. Goodbye, John,
- 24:15what's all that about, mister comedian? Are you going out to Colby's
- 24:18in disguise? Right? You are Dave disguised as Pierre Antoine, the police

- 24:52A little later we find Detective Arnold with mister Cameleon in his disguise as
- 24:56Pierre Antoine at the murder house. As Dave Arnold says, evening, everybody,

- 25:34me to arrest less Laly and our brother and bring them back to headquarters.
- 25:38That is absel, Detective Arnold. Surely mister carmileone is making a mistake.
- 25:45Mister Camellion is a fool. We won't go Laura. Detective Inald counterrests without
- 25:48a warrant. Here's the warrant. John better come quietly, John, Johnny,
- 25:52you can only cause yourself and Laura trouble by not going with Detective Arnold.
- 25:57You've got the right idea, mister Cowley. Oh, come on,
- 26:00John and Laura. No point getting tough about it. And my compliment to
- 26:04mister camellon detective animals and be good enough to express my opinion that he is
- 26:11making a most stupid blunder. I think two such charming young people, stupid
- 26:17or not, I'm taking them, Monsieur Antoine, good night, good night,
- 26:23doreadful contor Tom you could be I thought better of that Cameleon. There
- 26:30is your police mind, mister Antoine. Did you bring the jewels recovered from
- 26:37the man who robbed my safety in this very bag? She could be the
- 26:41robber was the father of the housemaid murdered here today, your fiance. I
- 26:47am told, hand over those jewels, Chameleon, what charp Comellion, I'm
- 26:52doing the talking. Now give me that bag quick. The only evidence you've
- 26:56got that I killed that infernal housemaid Panny billions. Now that's happen. When
- 27:00I take you in, Raymond Colby, it'll be for two murders. But
- 27:06anyway, here to the jewels. You're not taking me in. No,
- 27:10by the time they find your body, Chameleon, I'll be out of the
- 27:11country. Got me last wishes, Cop. I'd like to tell you how
- 27:17I caught up with your Raymond Coby. I'm interested, but hold your gab
- 27:19to three minutes. Through a careful study of police records extending from New York
- 27:25to Sydney, Australia, you murdered a woman who owned those jewels, Lady
- 27:29Ashton berll And Australia, five years ago. That's past history, chameleon.
- 27:33But suppose I did. The one living man who knew you did was your
- 27:37murdered housemaid's father, a petty criminal named ed Bilkins, and he followed you
- 27:42here, forced you to hire his daughter Fanny as a maid in your house,
- 27:45and then blackmailed you into a promise to marry her with your mysteriously and
- 27:49criminally acquired wealth. Anything else, Chameleon, You've got thirty seconds left.
- 27:55Only this Raymond don't know? Koby, I said, down, moved and
- 28:02so odd. He doesn't answer, Cob what mm hmm Oh why did I
- 28:11have to become a policeman? Yeah, Police headquarters, this is Comeleon.
- 28:26Connect me with Detective Arnold. Please Dave listen, Dave, send the dead
- 28:33wagon out please. Yes, the dead wagon, Well, I'm afraid I
- 28:38killed a man. Yes, the murder of Fanny Bilkins. I hit a
- 28:45fatal spot by mistake. I know, Dave, It's all in the line
- 28:49of duty. But still, and with these words, mister Cameleon concludes tonight's
- 29:03murder case. Have you ever tried breaking an aspirin tablet to give your children
- 29:18the dosage your doctor is prescribed. If you have, then you'll appreciate the
- 29:22new children's size Bayar aspirin tablets. These tablets are genuine Bayar aspirin, but
- 29:27they contain only half the amount of the regular size Bayar aspirin tablets, and
- 29:32thus you can give your child a proper dosage as prescribed by your physician,
- 29:36and you can do it conveniently. And because they are made so you can
- 29:40break them right in half, it's also easy for you to give still smaller
- 29:42dosages whenever necessary. Another thing you'll appreciate is that they are uncolored and unflavored
- 29:48and therefore cannot be mistaken for candy, and you can use them with confidence.
- 29:53For the fact that doctors prescribe Bayar aspirin single active ingredient, even for
- 29:57the smallest children shows how gentle and dependable it is. The bottle and carton
- 30:03are plainly marked children's size. Bayer Aspirin thirty tablets for twenty five cents.

- 31:02tooth decay is to keep your teeth thoroughly clean at all times. This is
- 31:07because teeth that are free of decay breeding deposits and film actually resist decay,
- 31:11and to clean them use powder, for there's nothing you can get the clean's
- 31:15teeth like powder. Thanks to its remarkable cleaning power. Doctor Lion's toothpowder almost
- 31:21instantly, helf removed deposit and film in which bacteria form bacteria that cause tooth

- 31:52This is CBS, the Columbia Broadcasting System. Welcome back. As I
- 32:15listened to Mister Chameleon, I have to believe that this show was intended to
- 32:21be somewhat comedic. We've kind of lost records of what they were trying to
- 32:28do with this show, what type of program it was viewed as. But
- 32:35I have to say, if this wasn't intended to be a slight send up
- 32:39of this type of melodramatic detective show, it falls into one of those so
- 32:45bad, it's good sort of categories, with so much happening that is just
- 32:52so over the top that it's actually funny. And of course, in this
- 32:58particular case, not only as the audience was as we were advised at the
- 33:02start of the show, was the audience in on the fact that mister Cameleon
- 33:07was in a disguise, so was the murderer. And I actually thought it
- 33:12was a clever twist as to who the murderer was. I wish we'd had
- 33:16a little bit more of that sense of fair play where we're able to kind
- 33:22of follow along with the detective, but really we were set up to think
- 33:28that the children were behind it when it was actually the father. So I
- 33:34enjoyed it, and we have one more week to go, and then we'll
- 33:37get into something. I think we'll all definitely enjoy the case book of Gregory
- 33:40Hood. Tomorrow we will return with another chapter in the Peerly Matter, and
- 33:46then, as I said, join us back here next Tuesday for one more
- 33:50episode of Mister Cameleon. In the meantime, sendra comments to Box thirteen at
