Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Some guy won a million bucks for swimming fifty meters
- 0:03Speaker 1: in a pool with a wetsuit on.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Calm Proud record record Christian column of twenty point eight one.
- 0:18Speaker 2: We've got a two million dollar man.
- 0:21Speaker 1: He wins a million dollars last year.
- 0:24Speaker 2: He comes to the Hands Games and he sets it again.
- 0:27Speaker 1: There you go, I know, right, awesome. Should be stoked
- 0:30Speaker 1: to the guy. He's Greek, he's an athlete, he broke
- 0:33Speaker 1: a world record. Problem is he was taking part in
- 0:36Speaker 1: the Performance enhancing Drugs Games, the Enhanced Games, and was
- 0:40Speaker 1: wearing a wetsuit that was not legit, Like you wouldn't
- 0:43Speaker 1: get away with wearing it at the Olympics. But what
- 0:45Speaker 1: I can't understand is the backlash, the tutting from the
- 0:49Speaker 1: medical professionals and the sporting bodies. They're upset for two reasons. One,
- 0:53Speaker 1: these athletes are in their woods, potentially putting themselves at
- 0:56Speaker 1: risk medically long term. Two, it undermines traditional non doping sports. Well,
- 1:03Speaker 1: on the first point, isn't that a bit rich? Isn't
- 1:06Speaker 1: it a bit hypocritical for the medical fraternity who relies
- 1:09Speaker 1: on medical trials of patients with sometimes unknown long term
- 1:13Speaker 1: consequences and risks to be tut tutting here. This Greek
- 1:16Speaker 1: guy just made a million bucks. That's money he can
- 1:19Speaker 1: feed his family with and change his life. Are we
- 1:22Speaker 1: really going to judge? And as for the sport argument,
- 1:25Speaker 1: name me a sport that doesn't result in long term
- 1:28Speaker 1: injuries or medical problems down the line, except for maybe
- 1:31Speaker 1: competitive walking, especially at a professional level. Is boxing one
- 1:35Speaker 1: hundred percent safe? Can rugby claim no concussions? How many
- 1:39Speaker 1: horse riders do you know are in wheelchairs? I'm not
- 1:44Speaker 1: saying these things are wrong or there's anything wrong with
- 1:47Speaker 1: it about all wrong with sport being dangerous in general,
- 1:49Speaker 1: it's human nature. We love challenging ourselves and sometimes that
- 1:53Speaker 1: challenge can lead to damage or death, where thrill seekers
- 1:55Speaker 1: essentially aren't we us humans? The enhanced games are basically
- 1:59Speaker 1: that on stef teroids. Literally, if you don't like it,
- 2:02Speaker 1: don't watch it, but don't judge a guy banking a
- 2:05Speaker 1: million bucks for going for a swim. For more from
