- 0:11What's going on, everybody? It's Wednesday and it's
- 0:14Wednesday of Strongsville Week. I've got a lot in store for the
- 0:18channel this week. Tomorrow, Darren and I have an
- 0:22Off Topic episode we're gonna be talking about.
- 0:25We're gonna be reminiscing about past Strongsville shows.
- 0:29We're going to be looking forward to our plans and some
- 0:34kind of ideas of how we think this will play out this week.
- 0:37And then over the weekend, I will have at least a couple of
- 0:40episodes. I'm trying to get into the the
- 0:45the room into the show on Thursday before the show opens
- 0:50so that I can get some footage and I can kind of show a lay of
- 0:54the land, show some of the cards in the cases, show where some of
- 0:58the key dealers are AT and to just kind of give an idea of
- 1:03what to expect if you're on the way.
- 1:05Will that happen? I don't know.
- 1:08So if that happens, that episode would either go up late Thursday
- 1:14or early Friday. But I'll definitely have at
- 1:18least an episode on Friday and then something else over the
- 1:23weekend, Saturday or Sunday to be determined.
- 1:25But there will be plenty of content all over the place, and
- 1:29I'll do my best to give a little bit of insight in case you can't
- 1:33make it, or if you are there something to keep you
- 1:36entertained on the way home. Now, I've had several times over
- 1:43the course of this channel that I have felt an outpouring of
- 1:47love. One of the times I felt an
- 1:50outpouring of love, I did my first live stream.
- 1:53I didn't even know how to do a live stream.
- 1:57And I did a live stream. This must have been three years
- 2:00ago, 2 1/2 years ago. And I didn't know if three
- 2:05people would show up or eight people would show up, but I was
- 2:08pretty sure it would be somewhere between 3:00 and 8:00.
- 2:12And I had like 90 people show up for my first ever live stream
- 2:17and it, it caught me so off guard that I literally almost, I
- 2:22should go back and find the clip or something.
- 2:24I literally almost started crying on camera because it
- 2:28meant so much to me that so many people showed up for that live
- 2:33stream to support me and I had no clue what I was doing.
- 2:37I still have no clue what I'm doing.
- 2:39I'm just trying to have fun. That was a moment that I really
- 2:44felt the love. Another moment that I really
- 2:47have felt the love is when I announced that my book was alive
- 2:52and the number of people that reached out and the number of
- 2:57people who bought it on Amazon. Oh my goodness.
- 3:01That was a very special memory for me as well.
- 3:06That meant a lot to me. Thank you to everybody who has
- 3:09purchased the book. I'm really looking forward to
- 3:11being able to hand it to so many of you over the next few days at
- 3:17the Strongsville show. I mentioned this on the Off
- 3:21Topic episode that airs tomorrow.
- 3:25I'm, I'm recording everything in advance.
- 3:26I'm, I'm not going to lie, this is Monday, but I've packing, I
- 3:30have travel, I have work, I have a work meeting, a bunch of
- 3:33stuff. So this is being recorded on
- 3:36Monday. What, what?
- 3:37I don't even know what the date is today, the 6th, maybe, maybe
- 3:41the 6th. I've recorded so many things
- 3:45over the last 48 hours to try to prepare for this trip.
- 3:48It's crazy. And and a thing that really
- 3:53stood out to me and and shared the love most recently is last
- 4:00week. Last week I said I ran out of
- 4:03Q&A questions. I guess I just will.
- 4:07Do 4 questions. This week, because I don't have
- 4:09any more and the overwhelming number of Q&A questions that
- 4:16came in over the past few days has been unbelievable, which
- 4:21tells me that you all want Q&A to continue.
- 4:24So I do too. I love it.
- 4:27So thank you to everybody who submitted a question over the
- 4:31last few days because there were a lot.
- 4:35It's going to be, there will be a little bit of a backup.
- 4:37That doesn't mean don't submit more questions.
- 4:39Please continue submitting questions so that we don't run
- 4:43out again. But that really meant a lot to
- 4:46me. So thank you to those of you who
- 4:49submitted a question. Those three things in the
- 4:53history of this channel, that first live stream, the number of
- 4:57people who went to Amazon and bought my book, midlife card,
- 5:01collecting stories, and then the number of Q&A questions that
- 5:06were submitted last week means a lot.
- 5:10Means a lot. I'll just say that.
- 5:14OK, five questions this week. As always, if you have one for
- 5:18an upcoming episode, please ask it down below in the comments.
- 5:21Let's take a look at my very first question, which actually
- 5:25came in via text. Let's check it out.
- 5:30My good buddy. Brent of Brent Richardson
- 5:32Baseball. Card said.
- 5:34Is there a car that? You would buy that you don't
- 5:37care at all if it was trimmed, color added, altered, or Kurtz
- 5:41card cared. I had one answer until tonight,
- 5:45I just. Bought a car that I.
- 5:47Literally don't care, this thing defies all logic and reality.
- 5:53Don't answer now, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
- 5:56I'll send you a picture now. So here is a picture of the
- 6:01card, a 71 tops Nolan Ryan. And it is.
- 6:07Stunning we've been in this period of eye appeal of grading
- 6:16of 10s are better than nines, which are better than eights.
- 6:20And then all of a sudden is it will the centered 1 is better
- 6:24than the non centered 1. There's there's been so much
- 6:29attention to grades, to values to I appeal to, I appeal
- 6:38stickers that sometimes I think that there are times that we
- 6:43lose track of the actual point of the hobby portion of this
- 6:50hobby, which is collecting things that we like to look at.
- 6:56Maybe because of the player, maybe because of the image,
- 7:00maybe because of the condition. It's possible, but there are
- 7:04times where we see a card and we just like, I have to have that
- 7:08card. And I love, first of all, my
- 7:11buddy Brent, Brent Richardson baseball cards subscribe to his
- 7:16channel, A 10 out of 10 person. He has an extreme passion for
- 7:22cards, which is so evident in his episodes.
- 7:27He he collects a lot of modern stuff, but not just modern
- 7:30stuff. He just collects stuff that
- 7:32makes him happy and and he's got a great channel.
- 7:37And so he texted this to me the other day and he said, man, I
- 7:41want to know this, but I want you to tell me in an episode, I
- 7:44don't want you to text me the answer.
- 7:45I said, OK, OK. And then he sent me the picture
- 7:48of the card. Now, let me first start by
- 7:50saying the 71 tops Nolan Ryan, I think is my favorite Nolan Ryan
- 7:56card. It's not.
- 7:58And it's weird for me because I tend to like portrait cards.
- 8:00I tend to like pictures where you can see the player's face.
- 8:04But there's something about that card, the, the color match with
- 8:09the black, you know, the orange pops, the action shot when it
- 8:14was just the very beginning really of action photos.
- 8:18There's something very special about that card.
- 8:21And I do believe it's my favorite Nolan Ryan card.
- 8:24And when you look at the example that he purchased that he said,
- 8:28I just have to have this one, You look at the centering, you
- 8:31look at the edges, you look at the corners, you look at the
- 8:33image, you look at it and you're just like, I can.
- 8:36Absolutely. And he's a huge Nolan Ryan
- 8:38collector. He loves Nolan Ryan.
- 8:40He's a big Astros fan. Him and with some other guys are
- 8:44showing their Nolan Ryan pickups and doing Nolan Ryan
- 8:47collaborations. I can totally see why you'd be
- 8:50drawn to that card. And that card was calling your
- 8:55name, Brent, and I think you did the right thing by buying it and
- 8:59not caring about how it would grade if it's trimmed, if
- 9:03there's something that was done to it.
- 9:05I understand that. I do understand that.
- 9:10And there's something pure about seeing something, seeing a card,
- 9:16and not caring about anything except for I don't know why, but
- 9:22I need that card. For me, a lot of the times it's
- 9:26the look of the card, it's the image itself.
- 9:29It's the beauty of the card. And sometimes that beauty is
- 9:33centering, Sometimes that beauty is the image, it's the player,
- 9:36it's the story behind the card. So to answer the question, yeah,
- 9:42I've had that happen. I've absolutely had that happen.
- 9:46See, I have learned so much about so many different cards,
- 9:50so many different athletes, so many different historical
- 9:52figures. By the the time that I've spent
- 9:58this, the hours and hours and hours that I've spent mostly
- 10:02listening to YouTube videos about cards, I mostly listen.
- 10:07And that's one of the reasons I don't.
- 10:09I don't comment a ton, but I listen to a lot.
- 10:14I go on walks and I listen. I go do yard work and I listen.
- 10:18I am driving and I listen. And, and one of the one of the
- 10:23stories, one of the figures that really made an impact on me and
- 10:30one of the one of the channels that's made a huge impact on me
- 10:32is my buddy Orlando of A Collector's Dream, who I can't
- 10:35wait to see here later this week.
- 10:39And he shows and shares his love of Goodwin Champions cards.
- 10:44And I'll be honest, I can't think of a set that's more
- 10:47beautiful than that. There's a couple that I like a
- 10:50lot, but I don't, I don't think, I think I'd be hard pressed to
- 10:53say any set is more beautiful than the Goodwin Champions scar
- 10:57set. And the passion that he speaks
- 11:01from when he talks about that set and he shares his incredible
- 11:05collection from that set is I will watch it from start to
- 11:10finish every time he does a video about those carts.
- 11:14And the card that he has spoken in depth about, about as much as
- 11:18any card in his collection is the Isaac Murphy card from that
- 11:23set. And so after watching and
- 11:27watching and watching his episodes, I've been like, I have
- 11:30to have one of those. And I, I knew that the next time
- 11:34one came up, it didn't matter the price, it didn't matter how
- 11:37it looked. But then one showed up in a
- 11:41glorious SGC 1, and sometimes you'll see a one and it's not
- 11:48that nice of a looking card, and sometimes it's a one, but it's
- 11:54still perfect. And this one was perfect.
- 11:59See, it looked like a card that's 135 years old.
- 12:06But the image was sharp and crisp and perfect and the
- 12:11centering was fantastic and you could read all of it and you can
- 12:17see the beauty on the card. And it had a pinhole, which my
- 12:25good pal Mookie has taught me that a pinhole is not actually
- 12:30the death sentence for the card. It's actually a sign of
- 12:36admiration for the card. It means somebody had that card
- 12:40and liked it so much they wanted it displayed.
- 12:43They didn't want it tucked away in a shoe box.
- 12:46They wanted it out and so they pinned it up.
- 12:50It the the impact that so many people have had on my collection
- 12:55in this community is unbelievable.
- 12:58And and so this card right here, this Isaac Murphy, let's see if
- 13:04I can get the focus on the card instead of me.
- 13:08I mean, that card is perfect. Yes, it has a pinhole.
- 13:13See the pinhole right there Yes, it has a pinhole Yes, it looks
- 13:20its age. Yes, it has issues and it is the
- 13:28perfect copy of that card for me.
- 13:32It is the perfect card. It I, I don't remember what I
- 13:36paid for this. I, I want to say I paid about
- 13:38$375 for this. I'd have paid 800.
- 13:43I might have paid 1000 this card.
- 13:50So the answer to your question, Brent, I don't care if this was
- 13:54soaked. I don't care if this was
- 13:56trimmed. I don't care that it is a
- 13:59pinhole. I don't care any.
- 14:01I just know this card belongs in my collection.
- 14:10This next one says this is my first question ever for Q&A.
- 14:15My question is, do you think that mid to lower graded modern
- 14:19cards are going to be just as treasured and sought after as
- 14:24the low to mid graded vintage cards are now?
- 14:27I'm curious about your thoughts because the vintage cards were
- 14:31less produced and the modern cards are overproduced so it
- 14:35could have a different turn of events.
- 14:38I'd love to hear your opinion, Greg.
- 14:40PS Keep Q and AQ and A going, I really enjoy it.
- 14:47I mean it. I wish.
- 14:51I wish that my answer on this was more open minded, but with
- 14:59all due respect, I don't think that that 87 tops Mark Mcgwire's
- 15:06will be heavily sought after in the future.
- 15:10I don't think 87 mid grade fours, 5 sixes of 87 tops Barry
- 15:17Bonds cards will be revered in the future and there's a few
- 15:23reasons. See the the reason that old
- 15:27vintage cards from the 20s, thirties, 40s, fifties, in any
- 15:31condition have like a character to them, even the the Isaac
- 15:35Murphy that I just showed. Part of the reason that that has
- 15:39character, that it's in a lesser condition from its original
- 15:44state is because, number one, there, there weren't many of
- 15:50them and #2 most of the ones that there were were destroyed
- 15:57and #3 they were never meant to be collectible.
- 16:01There weren't sleeves, there weren't pages, there weren't
- 16:06semi rigids, there weren't top loaders, there weren't screw
- 16:09down cases, there was nothing to protect a card Way back when the
- 16:161888 Goodwin Champion set was released or the 1952 Tops set
- 16:22was released. Nobody thought that those were
- 16:26things that you should hang on to.
- 16:29And that's why their existence in mid grade is special.
- 16:36It their mere existence makes them special.
- 16:40The fact that this card even exists still makes this card a
- 16:46special card. But they printed 87 TOPS cards
- 16:51to the moon. They they printed 89 Donruss to
- 16:58the moon. There's just, I mean, you would
- 17:02go into Sam's Club, but what did they call it at the time?
- 17:06Price club. I think it was price club out
- 17:08here. I don't know.
- 17:09It's probably similar to Costco, right?
- 17:12They go into Price Club and they would literally have pallets and
- 17:16pallets and pallets and pallets of 1990 Fleer cards for 5 bucks
- 17:25a box. Just pallets of them.
- 17:29So because of that there are and when people got them, they said,
- 17:33oh, I got to hang on to these. These are going to be valuable.
- 17:36So everybody held on to them. There's so many of those.
- 17:44I don't think that the ones that are still out there that are
- 17:49fours and fives, I don't think that there will be collectors
- 17:55lining up for them Now. The ones from your own
- 17:59collection, the ones where you opened the pack, the ones where
- 18:04you bought the team set when you went to the game, those should
- 18:10be appreciated. Those should be special to you.
- 18:17But do I think that on the open market cards from 1980, five,
- 18:251986 to 1991 in mid grade are going to be highly sought after
- 18:32in the future? Unfortunately, the only ones
- 18:38that will be highly sought after for the most part.
- 18:41There are a couple of rare exceptions like rare errors or
- 18:46variations like a few cards and 10 grades, which apparently
- 18:51makes them extra special to. There are some rare exceptions
- 18:56like And I'm sure some people are yelling at the screen going
- 18:59well, like the you know, the tops Tiffany in A10 are special.
- 19:04That's true, but there are a handful of outliers.
- 19:10But for the overwhelming majority of them, the majority
- 19:16of the value would be sentimental and not financial.
- 19:24That's at least my prediction. I guess it could be wrong.
- 19:28Again, whenever I give an opinion, I'm not saying I'm
- 19:31right. I'm just giving my opinion my
- 19:34opinion. If you think I'm crazy and you
- 19:37think PSA fives of 87 tops Barry Bonds are going to be highly
- 19:43sought after in the future, let me know down below.
- 19:46I would. I am.
- 19:47I'm always open minded, but I'm not particularly optimistic
- 19:53about the future of those, this one says.
- 19:58Hi Greg, first time to ask you a question.
- 20:01I want my cards to look nice on display and that includes the
- 20:05condition of the slabs. In other words, I do not want to
- 20:09have slabs with scratches on them.
- 20:12Since I live outside the US. EBay is my only source.
- 20:16When buying cards. So actual pics of the slabs, not
- 20:21the PSA scanned images are important to me when deciding to
- 20:25buy. Also, buying a raw copy is risky
- 20:29as I have been burned by getting cards with surface issues that
- 20:34are not visible in the images. I wish I can go to shows where I
- 20:38can actually see the cards before I purchase them.
- 20:41I still want to purchase a card with a grade as it will be an
- 20:46insurance that the card itself will not have a major defect.
- 20:51What do you do if you see a card that you want to buy but is in a
- 20:55poor condition slab? I do not want to pay PSA to
- 21:00reholder the card nor crack it out because it will not justify
- 21:05the cost including the international shipping to
- 21:09acquire the card with a good grade.
- 21:11Thank you for the amazing videos.
- 21:16You are not alone my friend. The majority of us collectors,
- 21:21one of the worst parts of having our cards in slabs is that the
- 21:26slabs can get scratched. And one of the things that I've
- 21:31noticed personally is a lot of dealers, they don't, they don't
- 21:35fall in love. They don't fall in love to the
- 21:37cards because they're coming and then they're going.
- 21:39They seem to care. OK, I'm being, I'm using
- 21:43generalizations. A lot of dealers don't seem to
- 21:48put a lot of care into protecting the slabs themselves
- 21:52because it's a commodity to them.
- 21:54They're not attached to the item.
- 21:56And So what happens is is, you know, they're kind of tossing
- 21:59them around the case and you go back and forth and stacking them
- 22:03and, you know, making that noise, you know, that noise
- 22:06where there's two slabs that are shuffling together.
- 22:09I mean, I'm like, Oh my gosh, put some care into how you're
- 22:14handling it. It makes it makes me a little
- 22:16twingy. It's one of the reasons that,
- 22:22you know, most of the time my cards have a protective sleeve
- 22:26over there. There are a few good brands.
- 22:30I do believe that the Penny Sleever, again, not a sponsor of
- 22:33the channel. I think Isaac makes a really
- 22:35good product. The Penny Sleever has great
- 22:39protective sleeves for slabs. There are a lot of companies
- 22:43that do, but I would, I, I take pride in taking care of the
- 22:49slabs so that the card will continue to look nice.
- 22:53But I haven't answered your question.
- 22:55I hear what you're saying. I hear what you're saying.
- 22:58And, and, and I will respond with a couple of ideas.
- 23:02First, if it's an expensive card, for example, I'm
- 23:07anticipating I have a, a tentative deal in place for a
- 23:12card that I think that I'm going to come home with at
- 23:15Strongsville. It's a big deal.
- 23:19I have a tentative deal in place and and the slab job by PSA is
- 23:26atrocious. And I mean atrocious.
- 23:31But I like the card and I want to buy the card.
- 23:34Not the slab, not the grade, not the slab, but the card which is
- 23:39inside of the slab. I, I have a few slabs that have
- 23:44scratches and scuffs and when a card reaches a certain value,
- 23:49you say, I don't want to spend, I don't want to spend $30 to re
- 23:54slab a $50 card that that is, that's hard to deal with.
- 24:00But then there are some cards where the value is high enough
- 24:03that it meets the threshold and you're like, I think it's worth
- 24:06it. In fact, I am seriously
- 24:10considering bringing with me two or three cards to get re slabbed
- 24:15at the National this year. And the immediate turn around,
- 24:19you know, where you, you drop it off and then you pick it up in a
- 24:21couple of days at the National is not cheap at all.
- 24:25Even to put just new plastic around it, not including getting
- 24:30the card graded. It's, it's expensive, but when
- 24:34the card is expensive enough, I think that it's probably worth
- 24:38it. But I'm not helping you because
- 24:41it sounds like what you're saying is I don't want to send
- 24:44them in. I live in a different country.
- 24:46I have to deal with customs going in and out.
- 24:48I have to deal with shipping them long distances.
- 24:51So what do I do now? I'm going to speak from the
- 24:57perspective of being fairly ignorant to what I'm about to
- 25:02share with you and I'll explain why.
- 25:05There are a lot of my friends who use some polishes and the
- 25:13Polish helps remove and buff out some scratches and it can make
- 25:18an old nasty looking slab look nice.
- 25:21So I heard Dylan talk of Dylan double D vintage baseball cards
- 25:26talking about him and I said to him one time, Dylan, what a what
- 25:32Polish do you use? And I'm pretty sure it was Dylan
- 25:35Dylan. If I'm wrong, tell me down below
- 25:36in the comments. This is Novus NOVUS Novus.
- 25:45There's a heavy scratch remover, a clean shine and protect and a
- 25:49fine scratch remover. And it comes with these little
- 25:51polishing clothes and I've not even opened it.
- 25:55I bought this probably two years ago, I think off of Amazon.
- 25:59I think there's the information right there.
- 26:01What's it say? Novus 2 plastic mates pack 2
- 26:07ounce bottles new. I have a lot of friends that
- 26:13swear by buffing out scratches. So if I'm in your shoes, given
- 26:18the situation that you're suggesting, I'm going to
- 26:22probably try that first. I'm going to try probably try
- 26:24some of these polishes, these scratch removers.
- 26:28If you used a scratch remover, a Polish and it's not Novus down
- 26:34below in the comments share which one you swear by to help
- 26:37each other out here because I think you're not alone and I
- 26:41think that a lot of people don't want to get stuff re slabbed.
- 26:44What have I done historically? Honestly I've sent them in and
- 26:49gotten re slapped which is a huge waste of money which sucks
- 26:56but but I don't do it for cheap cards.
- 26:58I do it for cards where it meets that threshold.
- 27:01What is that threshold? That's up to each individual
- 27:03person, but consider the polishes first.
- 27:08Again, Novus, hold it up there so you guys can get a good look
- 27:12at it. If this is helpful.
- 27:14If it's not helpful. I tried this one says hi good
- 27:20Sir. What do you think will be a
- 27:22better investment going forward? PSA 10s from 1980 to 1990
- 27:28baseball cards or 2012 to 2025 Prism Gold cards?
- 27:35Both seem to be steadily going up and I'd love to hear your
- 27:39thoughts. All right, again, not an
- 27:42investment channel, just a dude who talks to his phone every
- 27:47once in a while and then post it on the Internet for people to
- 27:50see. So don't go out and spend your
- 27:53life savings based on what I'm about to say.
- 27:55But here's my take. I think that there are thousands
- 28:00and thousands and thousands and 10s of thousands of cards from
- 28:05the 1980s that still haven't been graded, that are sitting in
- 28:10binders, that are sitting in sleeves, that are sitting in top
- 28:14loaders. And the reason that they've not
- 28:16been graded is because they haven't been worth grading.
- 28:21Because if the card gets an 8, maybe it's a $20 card, but if
- 28:25the card gets a 10, it's $1000 card.
- 28:31If it gets a nine, it's a $60.00 card.
- 28:36I think that with the way that they're grading, and I think
- 28:39that the fact that it has to be a 10 to make it worth it makes
- 28:44it where it's still not worth it to grade a lot of those cards,
- 28:491984 tops. Don Mattingly I had a perfect
- 28:54one and I mean perfect. And I never even considered
- 28:59sending it in to PSA to be graded.
- 29:02I didn't even consider it because I'm like, even though
- 29:05it's perfect, it's probably going to get an 8 and then it's
- 29:08worth 30 bucks. And I paid $30 to get it graded.
- 29:12But if it gets a 10, I don't know what it is.
- 29:16I'll, I'll make it up 500 bucks. If it gets a 10, it's not worth
- 29:21grading. So half of the cards that you're
- 29:25asking me about the the 1980s PSA 10 Hall of Farmers, I guess
- 29:29I used Don Mattingly and he's not in the Hall of Fame yet.
- 29:34A lot of those guys, you know, Wade Boggs, Tony Gwynn, you
- 29:39know, you know, we know, we all know the list.
- 29:43There are so many of those that will become 10s if the price
- 29:48continues to rise because a bunch will get submitted.
- 29:54But the gold prisms, I don't, I think most of those cards that
- 30:02are worthy of being graded have been graded.
- 30:06I don't think that there are pallets of gold prism cards that
- 30:11haven't yet been sent to PSA. So I think that the supply of
- 30:19the Gold Prism cards is probably fairly close to what it's going
- 30:24to continue to be versus the 1980s Hall of Fame cards where I
- 30:32still think there are a ton to be graded.
- 30:35And I know what some of you are thinking they're saying, but
- 30:37Greg, they don't give 10s anymore of anything that's old
- 30:41at all. Yeah, But I do believe if you
- 30:45sent in 20 perfect top suede, Boggs, rookie cards and I mean
- 30:51perfect, there are going to be some 10s in there.
- 30:55I do think that. So I think the supply is much
- 30:59more likely to go up from the 1980s cards of Hall of Farmers
- 31:05than it is for those gold prisms.
- 31:07So because of that, I think that that's a big part of why I would
- 31:12say the gold prisms have the most.
- 31:14The second reason is I think that there are a lot of younger
- 31:19people who are now in maybe their 20s that collected during
- 31:24the Prism era, which is ending as Panini has lost all licenses
- 31:29now, now that football, basketball and baseball are all
- 31:32under fanatics and tops. I do think that a lot of kids,
- 31:38you know, teens, early 20s that collected during the era of Gold
- 31:43Prism being like the card when they get older are going to get
- 31:49nostalgic and they're going to come back.
- 31:51What's happening right now is a lot of the people who are
- 31:54nostalgic and are buying the PSA 10s of the, I don't know, 87
- 32:00rated rookie Greg Maddox card. It though that's already
- 32:05happened that those people that are nostalgic for those cards, a
- 32:11lot of them have already come back.
- 32:14But right now we're we're still a ways away before the nostalgia
- 32:20for the Gold Prism begins. So I think the Gold Prism is
- 32:25closest to its eventual supply versus the 80s Hall of Farmers.
- 32:31And I think that the nostalgia era is currently happened and
- 32:37happening for the 80s cards and is not yet happened but will
- 32:42happen for the Gold Prisms. That's just a random dude me his
- 32:51random opinion about that topic, but those are my reasons for it.
- 32:59And my good buddy Theo of Clemente Collector says I never
- 33:04want Q&A to end question. Why don't you have more Clemente
- 33:09cards? OK, real question.
- 33:13What card did you sell or trade that you wish you could have?
- 33:17Back. Oh, Theo, it's like ripping off
- 33:24an old scab. What's the biggest mistake
- 33:29you've ever made, Greg? Well, it's a good question, and
- 33:33I have. As soon as you asked it, I
- 33:37immediately knew my answer. So let me start by saying I love
- 33:43Aaron Judge. I love Aaron Judge.
- 33:47Aaron Judge's rookie year, we went to the A's game, we watched
- 33:52Aaron Judge. And this, this is one reason why
- 33:57I loved Aaron Judge is because at the end of every half, at the
- 34:01end of every half inning, when he would warm up out in right
- 34:05field for the Yankees at the Oakland Coliseum, he'd play
- 34:11catch. He'd warm up before they threw
- 34:15the first pitch. He would jog over to the first
- 34:18baseline, he would find a kid and he would hand the kid the
- 34:24ball that he had just warmed up with.
- 34:27And I went, my goodness, this guy gets it.
- 34:30He gets it. How much effort did that take
- 34:35for Aaron Judge to jog over to the sidelines, pick out a kid
- 34:39and hand the ball directly to a kid?
- 34:41And every time he did that, he made a lifelong fan.
- 34:47And that is a treasured item in that fans collection for the
- 34:52rest of their life. And and that doesn't take much
- 34:56effort. And there's so many people who
- 34:59don't take any effort, and he took effort to do that.
- 35:04I said he's, he gets it #2 he's an insane talent.
- 35:11So early in 2022, like maybe even before the season started,
- 35:17I bought an Aaron Judge first Bowman Chrome refractor and I
- 35:26bought the card in a lot. I bought 3 cards in the lot.
- 35:30It was the Aaron Judge Bowman Chrome first refractor in apsa
- 35:3610 and it was apsa 10 of the regular Bowman Aaron Judge.
- 35:46Not the Chrome, not the refractor, just the same year
- 35:51card in just the paper version. Intense and all three cards I
- 35:58paid like 400 bucks. So I immediately I didn't want
- 36:03the other cards, but I said, oh, I could sell those two Bowman,
- 36:06those two Bowman, the regular Bowman one, not the Chrome
- 36:10refractor. I could, I could sell those for
- 36:13at the time it was like, I don't know, 80 bucks each.
- 36:16So I immediately got those, sold those, it's 160 bucks out.
- 36:20And now I've got this Aaron Judge Bowman Chrome refractor
- 36:25that I've got like 240 bucks in. Well, I loved the card.
- 36:34I mean, it's a the 10 is a beautiful card and it's it's my
- 36:39favorite Aaron Judge card. And he had a good season.
- 36:45Not an all time great season. We had a really good season.
- 36:49He's a really good player. And at the end of the season, I
- 36:53was afraid that they weren't going to resign him.
- 36:56And I said the Yankees aren't going to resign him.
- 36:58Hal Steinbrenner. I mean, heck, the guy keeps
- 37:01putting Aaron Boone out there. What are we doing?
- 37:05Aaron Boone is still our manager.
- 37:08And people say, well, they're starting off the season with a
- 37:10good record. Well, yeah, if I was the
- 37:12manager, they'd also have a good record.
- 37:14If I had that pitching staff, they'd also have a good record.
- 37:20So I was afraid they weren't going to resign them.
- 37:22I figured how Steinbrenner was going to not pony up the money,
- 37:26what he was going to ask. And I was just I was afraid they
- 37:29were going to get rid of him. And I said I don't need a 10.
- 37:32And the card had really worked its way up in value.
- 37:35It was like over $700.00. And I said I don't need a 10.
- 37:40I just bought a 10 because I got a good deal on it.
- 37:44It's now I bought it. I basically had like 240 bucks
- 37:47into it. I'm like this is now like a $750
- 37:50card. I'm going to sell the 10 and
- 37:53then if the Yankees re sign him, which I hope that they will but
- 37:56they probably won't, I'll buy a nine because I don't need a 10A9
- 38:02is fine. So I sold the 10 for around 750
- 38:10bucks. Again, I had about $204.00 into
- 38:13it and and I started looking for a nine and I started looking for
- 38:17a nine and the prices just weren't quite at the point I
- 38:22wanted to pay. They were, they just seemed like
- 38:27it's like I would like, I would bid and I was like the under
- 38:30bidder and then I'd go on the next one.
- 38:33I was the under bidder and then the Yankees resigned him and the
- 38:42price wasn't falling. So I kept bidding and I kept
- 38:48being like the under bidder and I was bidding on the card.
- 38:50I wanted the 9:00, so I was going to take the money for the
- 38:5510, buy a nine and then pocket the rest.
- 39:03And then in 2023, he had a pretty good season and the card
- 39:09has gone up and I'm like, well, as soon as he gets hurt, maybe
- 39:12he'll pull an oblique. Maybe he'll roll his ankle and
- 39:15miss two months and the card will go way down in value.
- 39:19And all he has done is win MVPS over and over and over and over
- 39:25and hit home runs over and over and win batting titles over and
- 39:28over. And I still don't have one.
- 39:34The 10 that I sold right now sells for over $3000.
- 39:41The one that I bought for 240 bucks, one that I sold for 750
- 39:47bucks is over $3000. Not the auto one, just the
- 39:54refractor hurts man it hurts. I love Aaron, Judge put.
- 40:07The prices of his stuff have gotten so high.
- 40:11I'm, I, I can't get myself to spend $3400 on a card that I
- 40:20bought for 240 bucks. It's painful.
- 40:28And, and Theo, he just reopened the wound.
- 40:36Man, it's brutal. What am I going to do?
- 40:41I don't know, because I still want the card on my goals card
- 40:45on my goals video with with Darren at the beginning of the
- 40:48year, it was one of my goals cards.
- 40:51I just want a nice 9A centered 9, but a centered 9 is like over
- 40:58$1000. I can't do that.
- 41:02It hurts, man. Theo, Theo, it hurts, buddy.
- 41:17I, I guess that happens to everybody, I guess.
- 41:26All right, guys, tomorrow, if you're traveling to
- 41:30Strongsville, tomorrow morning early, we will have my preview
- 41:36with Darren. I'll have a couple of videos
- 41:39coming out over the weekend. I really don't know when.
- 41:42It's going to depend on when I get footage, what I get footage
- 41:46of, when the deals go down, when the shenanigans happen.
- 41:50I'm going to try to get some behind the scenes stuff of, you
- 41:54know, Hangouts and all that kind of stuff.
- 41:57I'll put out a couple of videos, just keep an eye out.
- 42:02Probably Friday night or Saturday morning, maybe Friday
- 42:06morning, maybe Sunday, maybe Monday, I really don't know, but
- 42:12I'll put out at least 2 videos. And then remember April 20th,
- 42:17mark your calendars. My next Midlife Live will be
- 42:21April 20th and we will share all the stories, all the pickups,
- 42:27all the fun, myself, Darren, Tony and Petty.
- 42:33So mark your calendars for April 20th, Monday.
- 42:40Man, that judge, that's the one that's the one that got away.
- 42:46I. Wonder if there are any?
- 42:47Gals out there that are saying, yeah, that great guy, he's the
- 42:50one that got away. I don't think.
- 42:54I don't think so either.
