- 0:32Speaker 3: The FBI is back.
- 0:35Speaker 4: The FBI wreck and ruined during the Biden era and
- 0:39Speaker 4: turned into a partisan hack agency bringing phony criminal charges
- 0:45Speaker 4: and so on. What a couple of days for the FBI.
- 0:49Speaker 4: By the way, if you're wondering, that was the intro
- 0:51Speaker 4: to there's this TV series called the FBI that's on
- 0:54Speaker 4: now that obviously I've never seen. That was a TV
- 0:57Speaker 4: show from the sixties, and as you heard, it's from
- 1:00Speaker 4: Zimbalist Junior. It was on on Sunday night at like
- 1:03Speaker 4: I spear, everybody's dad watched that show. That was the
- 1:06Speaker 4: era in which it is actually still the j Edgar
- 1:09Speaker 4: Hoover FBI when it started, But that was the era
- 1:12Speaker 4: in which the FBI was just universally accepted and the
- 1:16Speaker 4: goal of Cash Betel and the Trump administration is to
- 1:19Speaker 4: bring it back. And there are two separate stories in
- 1:21Speaker 4: which the FBI is a major player that don't want
- 1:24Speaker 4: to lead today's podcast with and we'll get to them
- 1:28Speaker 4: in a moment. When it comes to shipping, packaging, industrial

- 2:01Speaker 3: Dot com.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Let's start with the drug bus. We heard about drug
- 2:06Speaker 4: bus all the time. I from what I've been able
- 2:09Speaker 4: to pick up, which is a fair amount. This is
- 2:15Speaker 4: in terms of not necessarily quantity of drugs that were confiscated.
- 2:21Speaker 4: That was not the goal of this. Sometimes these raids
- 2:24Speaker 4: are you get into a warehouse and grab, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 4: millions of dollars of the drugs. That was not the
- 2:28Speaker 4: purpose this. The purpose of this one was to nail
- 2:33Speaker 4: several drug crankpins and confiscate drugs in the process. This
- 2:39Speaker 4: was an investigation that involved more than a dozen law
- 2:44Speaker 4: enforcement agencies in Illinois and Wisconsin. The federal government had
- 2:48Speaker 4: numerous agencies that were involved because the arrest itself that
- 2:53Speaker 4: the rest occurred were seeing in Milwaukee, but the major
- 2:55Speaker 4: operation was outside of the city of Racine in Mount
- 2:58Speaker 4: Pleasant and the Mount Pleasant Police Department sort of as
- 3:01Speaker 4: the titular head. But the FBI was the one that
- 3:03Speaker 4: did all of the announcing of all of this. But
- 3:06Speaker 4: there were fourteen SWAT teams. They had a black Hawk helicopter.
- 3:14Speaker 4: In other words, the force that was shown here was
- 3:17Speaker 4: massive because they were prepared for the potential given what
- 3:22Speaker 4: was at stake here of.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Armed resistance.
- 3:26Speaker 4: It didn't occur, and the takedown is apparently quite big.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Whenever the FBI has like a title for the thing,
- 3:32Speaker 4: that means it's a big deal. Sadly, the last few
- 3:35Speaker 4: years those titles were all things that turned out to
- 3:37Speaker 4: be disgraced.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Hopefully this is not one of those things. Operation chalk Line.
- 3:44Speaker 4: We all know that the drug problem in the United
- 3:48Speaker 4: States is as bad now as maybe it's ever been,
- 3:53Speaker 4: simply because the drugs are so powerful. It was only
- 3:58Speaker 4: a few years ago that we started and hearing about
- 4:00Speaker 4: feninol being abused. Fenanol is heroin on steroids. The meth
- 4:06Speaker 4: problem has gotten terrible, and just going through what it
- 4:10Speaker 4: is that they confiscated, you could tell that these are
- 4:12Speaker 4: major drug operations because they're wholesaling out lots of drugs
- 4:17Speaker 4: or akilas of cocaine, two hundred and sixty grams of fenool,
- 4:19Speaker 4: one and a half pounds of meth, six pounds of marijuana,
- 4:22Speaker 4: twenty three firearms.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Three vehicles. The names of the individuals are going to
- 4:28Speaker 3: be released.
- 4:29Speaker 4: I don't know that I would know who any of
- 4:31Speaker 4: them are, because the thing with high end drug dealers
- 4:36Speaker 4: is that they tend in terms of their name to
- 4:38Speaker 4: be an honymous because they try to keep their own
- 4:41Speaker 4: hands clean and the people who get their hands thirty
- 4:44Speaker 4: to the people that are below them. Now how high
- 4:46Speaker 4: level they are, will this be an attempt to get
- 4:48Speaker 4: people to flip bring down more indictments. Don't know, but
- 4:52Speaker 4: certainly one of the priorities and it's hard to say
- 4:55Speaker 4: priorities in the Trump administration because they're doing so many things,
- 4:59Speaker 4: has been to a this terrible drug problem that's affecting
- 5:04Speaker 4: particularly younger Americans. And as I've been saying, one of
- 5:07Speaker 4: the reasons the problem is so bad is that there
- 5:09Speaker 4: are so many of these drugs right now that they're
- 5:11Speaker 4: not all that expensive, and by shutting off the supply,
- 5:16Speaker 4: which is what's occurring with these attacks in the Caribbean
- 5:19Speaker 4: and isolation of Latin American countries, and now going after
- 5:22Speaker 4: the individuals, some of whom I suspect, some of whom.
- 5:26Speaker 3: May be.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Illegal immigrants. I'm just suspecting that that some of the
- 5:30Speaker 4: people that are running the drug operation. We don't know,
- 5:33Speaker 4: but it's just logical to me that when you don't
- 5:35Speaker 4: enforce the border, drug kingpins who were overseas would simply
- 5:40Speaker 4: come and locate themselves in the United States to have
- 5:42Speaker 4: total control.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Of their operation.
- 5:44Speaker 4: So this was a major twenty two arrests so far,
- 5:47Speaker 4: but I suspect that now the real process begins.
- 5:50Speaker 3: In which.
- 5:53Speaker 4: As a way of trying to tell them that you
- 5:54Speaker 4: won't get a twenty five year prison sentence, start cooperating.
- 5:57Speaker 4: There may be any number of other people that come
- 5:59Speaker 4: out of this, but it was a major operation and
- 6:03Speaker 4: the amount of equipment and manpower that came in required
- 6:07Speaker 4: incredible coordination. And the other part that I want to mention,
- 6:10Speaker 4: unlike the and again the FBI was simply one of
- 6:13Speaker 4: the agencies involved, but they're the ones that made the announcement.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Homeland Security was involved, the dea of a whole list
- 6:19Speaker 4: of a bunch of them, many local law enforcement agencies
- 6:22Speaker 4: and so on. Nothing leaked out on this, and there
- 6:26Speaker 4: were obviously hundreds of people.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Who knew that the thing was coming down.
- 6:31Speaker 4: The other FBI story, the Department of Justice announced today
- 6:38Speaker 4: an FBI led investigation that's been ongoing for some time
- 6:43Speaker 4: into illegal gambling centered in the National Basketball Association. There
- 6:51Speaker 4: have been there's been speculation for some time that some
- 6:57Speaker 4: NBA players were involved in illegal gambling. Terry Rogier, who
- 7:01Speaker 4: was first with Charlotte and then with Miami, he was
- 7:05Speaker 4: actually named and taken on of games for a few
- 7:07Speaker 4: games last year before being reinstated because they were investigating
- 7:11Speaker 4: unusual activity in his games and so on. Cash Puttel,
- 7:15Speaker 4: the FBI director, says, in this instance he used the
- 7:19Speaker 4: term LaCOSA nostro, which we otherwise might call the mafia,
- 7:23Speaker 4: as being involved in the gambling operation and involved betting
- 7:28Speaker 4: on sports, betting on basketball, and also betting on poker.
- 7:33Speaker 4: The fear with regard to people involved in sports getting
- 7:37Speaker 4: involved in betting on some of these other things when
- 7:40Speaker 4: they're gambling is done illegally and they get into debt.
- 7:44Speaker 4: That's when they're getting on. You know, the bookmakers and
- 7:47Speaker 4: so on have their hooks into them in which they're
- 7:51Speaker 4: borrowing money. There was a case a few years ago
- 7:54Speaker 4: of an NBA referee who was involved in sharing information
- 7:58Speaker 4: with gamblers. He was a gambler himself, got into hooks
- 8:02Speaker 4: with the mob. He was in debt to the mob
- 8:05Speaker 4: and started sharing information. The biggest name to come down
- 8:10Speaker 4: here as an actual NBA head coach, that's a stunning development.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Chauncey Billips, who was a star for many years with
- 8:17Speaker 4: the Detroit Pistons, coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, is
- 8:21Speaker 4: one of the people that's named in the investigation. Terry Rogier,
- 8:25Speaker 4: who I just mentioned of the heat, who's been speculated
- 8:28Speaker 4: as to having been a target of a federal investigation
- 8:31Speaker 4: for better than a year, was named as well. The
- 8:35Speaker 4: indictment doesn't go into great detail as to how much
- 8:39Speaker 4: of this is betting on games. Was there any fixing
- 8:42Speaker 4: of games involved? Just because you're betting on games doesn't
- 8:45Speaker 4: mean the games are being fixed, but the door is
- 8:47Speaker 4: always open to that. Poker was mentioned as well, a
- 8:50Speaker 4: lot of extremely high stakes poker games.
- 8:52Speaker 3: And again the fear.
- 8:54Speaker 4: With regard to athletes is if they sustain massive losses
- 8:58Speaker 4: and there in debt to people that will kill you
- 9:00Speaker 4: if you don't pay up, that they'll do things like
- 9:03Speaker 4: fixed games in an attempt to pay off their debts.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Let me quote from the report. In fact, they've got
- 9:13Speaker 4: a couple of stories here. One is from the Athletic,
- 9:15Speaker 4: which is a very good sports website actually owned by
- 9:17Speaker 4: the New York Times. I'm going to read a few
- 9:19Speaker 4: paragraphs here. Portland Trailblazers coach Chauncy P Billips and Miami
- 9:22Speaker 4: Heat guard Terry Rozier were arrested Thursday as part of
- 9:25Speaker 4: a federal investigation in the illegal betting activities, Federal law
- 9:28Speaker 4: enforcement officials said doing a news conference in New York.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Rogier was taken into custody at Orlando, where the Heat
- 9:33Speaker 4: played on Wednesday night. He was accused of telling members
- 9:35Speaker 4: of a betting ring that he would leave a game early. Now,
- 9:39Speaker 4: let me explain a little bit about something called proposition betting.
- 9:45Speaker 4: You know, forever a effort after if you wanted to
- 9:47Speaker 4: bet on sports, you could bet on two things, the
- 9:49Speaker 4: points spread and the over under. Now there's propositions on
- 9:56Speaker 4: every game, and they're for multiple players. How many rebounds
- 9:59Speaker 4: will this guy have over or under this? How many points?
- 10:01Speaker 4: How many assists will another one have?
- 10:03Speaker 3: And so on?
- 10:04Speaker 4: And for some of these players that aren't big name players,
- 10:07Speaker 4: the number may be low.
- 10:08Speaker 3: You know, a guy like Terry Roger.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Maybe I'm just making this up here, Maybe the over
- 10:12Speaker 4: run in his points is eight well or nine.
- 10:18Speaker 3: It's real easy to disguise that.
- 10:20Speaker 4: If a guy normally scores nine and he only scores seven,
- 10:22Speaker 4: who would.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Be the wiser. Rogier is accused.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Of telling the gambling ring I'm gonna say I'm hurt,
- 10:29Speaker 4: for example, and leave a game early. Well, then they
- 10:32Speaker 4: would know to bet the unders. So he doesn't even
- 10:34Speaker 4: have to like miss shots or anything like that. He
- 10:37Speaker 4: simply takes himself out of the game.
- 10:39Speaker 3: So he can't go over, etc. Back to the piece.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Rosier's agent, Aaron Turner, confirmed Rogier was arrested in relation
- 10:48Speaker 4: to the probe, but said the player planned to fight
- 10:50Speaker 4: the charges, having been previously cleared by the NBA. Billips
- 10:54Speaker 4: forty nine, a Hall of Flame player before he became
- 10:56Speaker 4: a coach and ex Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Damon Jones
- 11:00Speaker 4: were also arrested. Now David Jones is with the Lakers.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Now what the allegation is whose activities occurred prior to
- 11:07Speaker 4: going to work for them? That it might have been
- 11:09Speaker 4: in the period in which was the Cleveland prosecutors said
- 11:12Speaker 4: at least two cases were pending separately but with some
- 11:15Speaker 4: overlap and connections. One is related to sports betting. The
- 11:18Speaker 4: other is related to poker games that prosecutors say were rigged.
- 11:25Speaker 4: In response to the federal indictment of Portland Tales Bazers
- 11:28Speaker 4: coach Chauncey Billups in Miami heat guard Terry Rozer, the
- 11:30Speaker 4: NBA issued its first public statement. You could write this
- 11:33Speaker 4: statement and by the way, I just think they knew
- 11:36Speaker 4: this was coming. I don't know that they knew necessarily
- 11:39Speaker 4: it was coming. With regard to Chauncey Billups. My guess
- 11:41Speaker 4: is the FBI was working with NBA security on this.
- 11:44Speaker 4: I don't think Portland knew, because if they did, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 4: Portland did have a great season last year. Had been
- 11:49Speaker 4: very easy just to fire Chauncey Billups and make it
- 11:51Speaker 4: appears because they weren't doing well enough on the Court.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Here's the statement.
- 11:56Speaker 4: We are in the process of reviewing the federal indictments
- 11:58Speaker 4: announced today. Terry Rozier so Chauncy Billips are being placed
- 12:01Speaker 4: on immediately from their teams, and we will continue to
- 12:05Speaker 4: cooperate with the relevant authorities. We take these allegations with
- 12:09Speaker 4: the utmost seriousness, and the integrity of our games remains
- 12:11Speaker 4: our top priority. Now I've talked forever about given the
- 12:15Speaker 4: fact that we've legalized sports betting almost everywhere in the
- 12:18Speaker 4: United States. It used to be the only place that
- 12:21Speaker 4: was legal was Novata and you could have to do
- 12:23Speaker 4: otherwise you have to do it illegally with a bookie
- 12:25Speaker 4: or offshore and so on. Now that it's been legalized,
- 12:28Speaker 4: and because you can bet online with computers and all
- 12:30Speaker 4: of this stuff, they have all of these prop bets.
- 12:34Speaker 4: It's simply a guaranteed that there's going to be corruption
- 12:37Speaker 4: in anything in which there's betting. There's going to be
- 12:40Speaker 4: some corruption, and it's incumbent upon the sports themselves to
- 12:49Speaker 4: make sure that individuals involved know that if you do it,
- 12:52Speaker 4: it's the death penalty.
- 12:53Speaker 3: You're finished. The death penalty in terms of your career.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Baseball's always said this fool you bet on baseball your
- 12:59Speaker 4: band for life. Pete Rose's ban didn't end until after
- 13:04Speaker 4: he was dead. He was banned for life. It's I
- 13:09Speaker 4: think a greater concern at the college level, where the
- 13:13Speaker 4: players have less of a career to lose, and there
- 13:17Speaker 4: have been some of those cases that have come down
- 13:20Speaker 4: as well. If you're looking for a positive in this,
- 13:24Speaker 4: it's that it appears as though the FBI is back
- 13:27Speaker 4: to good old crime busting and going after and nailing crooks,
- 13:32Speaker 4: drug dealers, people fixing games, illegal brings, all of this stuff,
- 13:38Speaker 4: as opposed to the crap that the FBI had degenerated
- 13:42Speaker 4: into during the period in which its soil mission in
- 13:45Speaker 4: life seemed to be to make up things that Donald
- 13:50Speaker 4: Trump supposedly had done. I want to turn a story,
- 13:54Speaker 4: turn my attention to a disturbing story in the local
- 13:56Speaker 4: news today. This is one of those that it's about
- 13:59Speaker 4: us bad as it gets. It's involving case of a
- 14:02Speaker 4: four year old boy who died recently in West Alice.
- 14:09Speaker 4: The story on Fox six's site names the child's parents,
- 14:14Speaker 4: but whether or not the father is the parent or
- 14:17Speaker 4: not is unclear to me. The boy's last name is
- 14:20Speaker 4: not the same last name as either the mother or
- 14:23Speaker 4: the father, and there was another man years earlier named
- 14:27Speaker 4: in a paternity action that has the child's last name.
- 14:30Speaker 4: I think it's safe to say that the woman involved
- 14:33Speaker 4: as the mother, but I'm unclear as to whether or
- 14:35Speaker 4: not the man charged is the father. They were living together.
- 14:38Speaker 4: The guy is twenty one, the mother is thirty one.
- 14:40Speaker 4: There are multiple children who live in the home. Quoting
- 14:45Speaker 4: the story on Fox six, the parents of Dante Campbell,
- 14:48Speaker 4: four year old West Alice boy, are now criminally charged
- 14:50Speaker 4: in connection with his death. Milwaukee County prosecutors charged thirty
- 14:54Speaker 4: one year old Charlotte Kurk and twenty one year old
- 14:58Speaker 4: de Verio Cruz with chronic neglect of a child causing death.
- 15:02Speaker 4: They made their initial court appearance this morning. The backstory
- 15:06Speaker 4: again I quote Fox six. West Alice police and fire
- 15:08Speaker 4: department were called to the Dairy Queen at one hundred
- 15:10Speaker 4: eighth and Greenfield on the morning of October eighteenth, That
- 15:13Speaker 4: would have been last Saturday morning. When officials arrived, paramedics
- 15:17Speaker 4: were working on the UNRESPONSEI four year old boy. He
- 15:20Speaker 4: later died at Children's hospital. It is unclear to me
- 15:26Speaker 4: why the child was out the dairy queen. Court filing
- 15:30Speaker 4: said Campbell. That's the boy had bruising on his face, neck,
- 15:33Speaker 4: torso and limbs. A West Alis police sergeant noted in
- 15:36Speaker 4: his fourteen years of experienced this was the most extensive
- 15:38Speaker 4: and severe injuries that I have witnessed on a child cruise.
- 15:43Speaker 4: And Kurik that's the male and the female cruises. The male,
- 15:47Speaker 4: Kurrik is the female, initially told police the boy was
- 15:51Speaker 4: injured falling down a flight of stairs at their apartment,
- 15:54Speaker 4: where police later found three of Kurik's children. Now, Korik's
- 15:57Speaker 4: the mother. The other guy is twenty one. I don't
- 16:01Speaker 4: think he's the father of most of these and maybe
- 16:03Speaker 4: not the father of any of them. But they found
- 16:05Speaker 4: three others of Kork's children. Court filings said Campbell. That's
- 16:09Speaker 4: the boy who's dad. Siblings believe he died sometime the
- 16:12Speaker 4: day before. Again, I'm unclear as to why this is
- 16:15Speaker 4: going out in a dairy queen because the children say
- 16:17Speaker 4: they believe that the boy was dead the day before this.
- 16:20Speaker 3: These are the brothers and sisters.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Those older siblings told investigators Cruz that's the twenty one
- 16:27Speaker 4: year old guy here. Would make Campbell and his twin
- 16:31Speaker 4: sister stand on legos and smack the kids in the face,
- 16:36Speaker 4: and that Cork the mother did nothing.
- 16:39Speaker 3: To stop it.
- 16:43Speaker 4: The court filings on the individuals. Cruise himself was charged
- 16:48Speaker 4: several years ago with felony sexual assault of a child.
- 16:51Speaker 4: He later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor sexual assault. This did
- 16:55Speaker 4: not involve this particular family, It was a separate.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Crime.
- 17:03Speaker 4: As for the mother, Charlotte Cork, she's facing the same
- 17:07Speaker 4: charge as the male, who again i'm unclearest whether or
- 17:10Speaker 4: not he's a father. Both are two counts of chronic
- 17:13Speaker 4: neglect of a child, one with consequences death.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Those charges obviously can be upgraded.
- 17:22Speaker 4: It is not the least bit surprising that apparently there
- 17:25Speaker 4: are all sorts of drugs that we're found in the home,
- 17:28Speaker 4: which becomes something of an explanation. I think for all
- 17:32Speaker 4: of this, I want to move to a story here
- 17:36Speaker 4: in which we take a look at the attempts by
- 17:38Speaker 4: some legacy media organizations to save themselves. This has been
- 17:44Speaker 4: so overdue. Jeff Bezos, who bought the Washington Post, is
- 17:50Speaker 4: trying to make the paper less liberally biased. CBS News
- 17:58Speaker 4: seems to be trying now that it is under new ownership.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Now that David Ellison's firm has bought the company, it
- 18:07Speaker 4: seems to be trying to rid the company of some
- 18:11Speaker 4: liberal bias. The high rank of Barry Weiss, who is
- 18:15Speaker 4: a moderate and provocative journalist formerly with The Wall Street
- 18:19Speaker 4: Journal and The New York Times, it's her attempt to
- 18:24Speaker 4: deal with that.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Gerard Baker of the Wall Street Journal has a commum
- 18:29Speaker 3: column about this.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Now his take is not entirely my take, but he
- 18:32Speaker 4: makes some interesting points. The point I've made forever is
- 18:36Speaker 4: that getting rid of bias in the media is very,
- 18:38Speaker 4: very hard because everybody in the media is liberal. For
- 18:43Speaker 4: the longest time, most people in the media were liberal,
- 18:45Speaker 4: but they were professional. I believe the majority of the
- 18:49Speaker 4: people that are in the media now, not all, but
- 18:51Speaker 4: the majority are not professional that they're biased. Baker believes
- 18:57Speaker 4: it's less insidious than that, and he is right about
- 19:01Speaker 4: this point.
- 19:01Speaker 3: I agree with him to a degree. He believes that.
- 19:04Speaker 4: The problem is is that they all come from the
- 19:07Speaker 4: same worldview and they view things to the exact same lens.
- 19:13Speaker 4: He is right about that, and this has been the
- 19:17Speaker 4: case for about fifty to fifty five years. The news
- 19:19Speaker 4: media tends to hang out with other members of the
- 19:22Speaker 4: news media and with the people that they cover. It's
- 19:25Speaker 4: the problem that I've described with together regard to the
- 19:27Speaker 4: Republican Party being in Madison. They madisonize themselves. Well, the
- 19:30Speaker 4: news media is just this circle and click of elitists
- 19:36Speaker 4: that all see things the same way, and they then
- 19:40Speaker 4: think that they have some sort of duty to act
- 19:42Speaker 4: in the beliefs that they have, which is not the
- 19:46Speaker 4: role of the media at all. They have a duty
- 19:49Speaker 4: to report the news, they don't have a duty to
- 19:50Speaker 4: do anything about anything. Here's Baker's piece for a glimpse
- 19:55Speaker 4: into the sealed world of the establishment media. Nothing tops
- 19:59Speaker 4: Polline kale famous observation about the nineteen seventy two presidential election.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Let me interject, she didn't exactly say this, Baker points
- 20:07Speaker 4: said out. But the way the shorthand is is that
- 20:09Speaker 4: Pauline Klee said that she knew that McGovern was going
- 20:13Speaker 4: to beat Nixon because everybody she knew was voting for McGovern.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Now she didn't exactly say that, Well, that was the point.
- 20:19Speaker 4: In other words, her bubble only consistent of people who
- 20:24Speaker 4: constituted the small minority of Americans who supported George McGovern
- 20:27Speaker 4: back to the piece. It isn't quite true, as Laura
- 20:30Speaker 4: has it, that the New York film critic was so
- 20:32Speaker 4: unaware of her Himalayan elevation above her fellow Americans that
- 20:36Speaker 4: she wondered about how Richard Nixon could possibly have won,
- 20:39Speaker 4: since she didn't know anyone who had voted for him.
- 20:41Speaker 4: In fact, her quote was more guileful than that, and
- 20:45Speaker 4: all the more revealing for it. What she actually said
- 20:47Speaker 4: is I live in a rather special world. I know
- 20:50Speaker 4: only one person who voted for Nixon. Where they are
- 20:53Speaker 4: I don't know they are outside my ken, but sometimes
- 20:58Speaker 4: when I'm in a theater, I can feel them. In
- 21:00Speaker 4: other words, the point that she was making, and it's true,
- 21:03Speaker 4: these better than fifty years later, they don't really know
- 21:06Speaker 4: any of the people and now let's use and take
- 21:08Speaker 4: Nixon away support Trump. They don't anybody like that, but
- 21:12Speaker 4: they do know this, that they're above those kinds of people.
- 21:17Speaker 3: And when you hear that, you know that's what the
- 21:19Speaker 3: media is.
- 21:21Speaker 4: Back to the peace less, an ingenuous revelation of lofty
- 21:25Speaker 4: self insulation from such voters than more a conscious repining
- 21:31Speaker 4: at their existence, mixed with revulsion at the thought that
- 21:35Speaker 4: she occasionally had to share.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Space with them.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Isn't that how lefties view mega people, disgust that they
- 21:44Speaker 4: have to share a planet Earth with them? Back to
- 21:48Speaker 4: the piece, the Marie Antoinette level empathy for how other
- 21:52Speaker 4: people live and think has been the biggest problem with
- 21:55Speaker 4: what we might continue to call elite nords organizations in
- 21:58Speaker 4: the past thirty years. You're not aware Baker himself used
- 22:02Speaker 4: to be the editor in chief of the Wall Street Journal.
- 22:04Speaker 4: He's a media established in type himself, and he comes
- 22:06Speaker 4: out of the Murdoch Empire. He's not a conservative, but
- 22:10Speaker 4: he is somebody that has tried to address this problem
- 22:14Speaker 4: a bias in the media because he realizes he's turning
- 22:17Speaker 4: off half his readers and what they're doing essentially killing
- 22:21Speaker 4: journalism as we know it. The journalism was supposed to
- 22:24Speaker 4: be the reporting of news without opinion.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Back to the piece.
- 22:29Speaker 4: It is the primary reason the trust in their reliability
- 22:32Speaker 4: as providers of a fair accounting of the news has collapsed.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Contrary to the fevered imagination of megapartisans, editors and reporters
- 22:39Speaker 4: and anchors don't sit around concocting progressive talking points, checking
- 22:43Speaker 4: in from time to time with the Democratic National Committee
- 22:46Speaker 4: and handing out the approved line to take on all
- 22:49Speaker 4: the important topics. It's more organic than that. The people
- 22:53Speaker 4: who have held the commanding heights of news, from editors
- 22:56Speaker 4: down to reporters may not be quite cholesque in their
- 23:00Speaker 4: remoteness from their less refined fellow citizens, but their philosophical
- 23:05Speaker 4: outlook reflects a degree of convergence in their shared metropolitan,
- 23:10Speaker 4: expensively educated, narrowly focused minds. The political implications of this
- 23:16Speaker 4: institutional demography have become more pronounced in the age of
- 23:20Speaker 4: Donald Trump. Well, the more open minded of such people
- 23:24Speaker 4: might once have reluctantly acknowledged that George W. Bush or
- 23:27Speaker 4: Mitt Romney had at least a right to be considered
- 23:30Speaker 4: for the office of presidency. In Trump's case, from day one,
- 23:34Speaker 4: his illegitimacy was never in doubt. Often, as I have
- 23:38Speaker 4: dealt with mainstream journalists in the past ten years, I
- 23:41Speaker 4: have asked myself how many of them voted for Trump?
- 23:45Speaker 4: Realizing the answer was scarcely ever more than one, I'd
- 23:49Speaker 4: moved to the more interesting corollary, how many of them
- 23:53Speaker 4: even know someone who voted for Trump. All of this
- 23:58Speaker 4: makes me a little skeptical about the valiant attempt now
- 24:01Speaker 4: underway to unwind decades of mainstream media journalistic bias by
- 24:06Speaker 4: management FIAT. While news organizations are in many ways top
- 24:10Speaker 4: down institutions, newsroom editors, exercise and autocracy quite rare in
- 24:15Speaker 4: other fields, in reality, they are bottom up, their product
- 24:19Speaker 4: shaped by those who wield the digital pens. That American
- 24:26Speaker 4: media is now going through a revolution is not in
- 24:29Speaker 4: doubt for those of us who have spent decades railing
- 24:33Speaker 4: at and occasionally even trying to redress the imbalance. These
- 24:38Speaker 4: should be exhilarating times. The appointment of Barrywise as editor
- 24:42Speaker 4: in chief of CBS News and the network parent company
- 24:45Speaker 4: Pricey acquisition of her Free Press media project is a
- 24:49Speaker 4: welcome change, so to was Jeff Bezos's attempt to reorientation
- 24:53Speaker 4: of the Washington Post editorial page to a.
- 24:56Speaker 3: More pro American tilt.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Similar efforts are underway in other news media, but neither
- 25:02Speaker 4: Wise nor any of the people involved in the other
- 25:04Speaker 4: efforts are right wing propagandists. For the most part, they
- 25:08Speaker 4: are thoughtful and honest journalists intent on restoring high standards
- 25:12Speaker 4: and pushing the pendulum back a little toward the plumb line.
- 25:16Speaker 4: But the sheer horizontal and vertical reach of the progressive
- 25:19Speaker 4: mindset in the newsrooms. The entrenched nature of their ideological
- 25:24Speaker 4: skill will militate against the successful resetting of their compass.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I used a lot of words here. I'll translate that
- 25:31Speaker 4: into more understandable. They're so lefty, they're so hoity toity,
- 25:37Speaker 4: that it's almost impossible to.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Move them back to reality.
- 25:43Speaker 4: Baker continues, And there's another concern. If these charges are
- 25:48Speaker 4: mainly the result of opportunistic business leaders eager to curry
- 25:51Speaker 4: favor with a president unusually active in wanting to direct
- 25:55Speaker 4: media coverage, it won't work. In other words, he's saying,
- 25:58Speaker 4: if all this is being done just becau some of
- 26:00Speaker 4: these media executives on a psych up to Trump, it's
- 26:02Speaker 4: not going to work. It's got to be because they
- 26:05Speaker 4: actually want to bring journalism.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Back and get the hackery out back to the column.
- 26:10Speaker 4: There is enough cynicism in the news as it is.
- 26:13Speaker 4: If the objections of if the objective of reforming newsrooms
- 26:16Speaker 4: is perceived as simply reshaping them into outlets favorably disposed
- 26:20Speaker 4: to Trump, it will only calcify the mistrust people already have.
- 26:24Speaker 4: It isn't true that trust in the media has simply
- 26:27Speaker 4: collapsed across the board. Instead, it has become partisan. Consumers
- 26:31Speaker 4: trust only what they already believe. Without structural change, a
- 26:36Speaker 4: repopulation of the demographically educationally geographically sealed units, these places
- 26:43Speaker 4: have become real, change is improbable. That change is harder
- 26:47Speaker 4: still in organizations rooted in all forms of pre digital
- 26:51Speaker 4: content delivery, changing form and content at the same time
- 26:55Speaker 4: as Herculean, let me interject, I've talked forever about this
- 26:58Speaker 4: following point.
- 27:00Speaker 3: The people who scream.
- 27:02Speaker 4: The most for diversity, diversity, diversity never believe in ideological diversity.
- 27:07Speaker 4: True diversity means that you have people whose thoughts come
- 27:10Speaker 4: from across the spectrum. They have no particular desire to
- 27:16Speaker 4: have lots of conservatives running American universities and lots of
- 27:20Speaker 4: conservatives in new zooms, or for that matter, lots of
- 27:22Speaker 4: conservatives and government.
- 27:23Speaker 3: They don't want that kind of diversity. So that's the
- 27:30Speaker 3: entire problem.
- 27:31Speaker 4: They don't want the very thing that Baker is saying
- 27:34Speaker 4: they need to go back.
- 27:35Speaker 3: To in order to survive.
- 27:36Speaker 4: He concludes his column, Still, we should wish them luck,
- 27:40Speaker 4: and by we, I don't mean only conservatives. I mean
- 27:43Speaker 4: everyone who has an interest in fair, honest, and objective
- 27:46Speaker 4: news and information as the means by which people are
- 27:49Speaker 4: informed about their government and the way they hold the
- 27:52Speaker 4: powerful accountable. You're listening to the Mark Belling podcast. This
- 28:02Speaker 4: is the Mark Belling Podcast. In the last segment, I
- 28:06Speaker 4: shared a column from The Wall Street Journal by Gerard
- 28:08Speaker 4: Baker in which he talked about the challenges that are
- 28:12Speaker 4: going to face anybody who owns a news media organization
- 28:15Speaker 4: and trying to reorient it back toward actual journalistic fairness.
- 28:20Speaker 4: The following topics related to this. Part of the problem
- 28:23Speaker 4: is that, aside from the fact that they've been biased
- 28:26Speaker 4: to the left forever, Trump has made some people in
- 28:30Speaker 4: this country crazy. They have turned Trump into this caricature
- 28:38Speaker 4: in which the very sight of Trump has made them
- 28:43Speaker 4: lose their marbles. Well, this is clearly what's going on
- 28:46Speaker 4: with the media, but it's not limited to the media.
- 28:49Speaker 4: We have several stories here that are broadly from this
- 28:51Speaker 4: area of Trump derangement syndrome, although a couple of them
- 28:54Speaker 4: don't specifically deal with Trump.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Here's this one.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Stories from Massas they were in adjacent to one of
- 29:03Speaker 4: the No King's rallies, some Trump supporter dressed himself up
- 29:07Speaker 4: as like one of those inflatables.
- 29:09Speaker 3: You know what an inflatable is, don't you. It's like
- 29:13Speaker 3: it's like this big bubble thing.
- 29:15Speaker 4: And he dressed himself up as Trump and he's in
- 29:17Speaker 4: this inflatable and he's got like a mouthpiece that it
- 29:19Speaker 4: came on, and we's saying pro Trump things and he's
- 29:22Speaker 4: doing this next to the No Kegs rally. It's the
- 29:25Speaker 4: kind of thing that lefties have done forever. When you
- 29:27Speaker 4: see conservatives around, some left he goes and beats the
- 29:31Speaker 4: crap on him. He's in an inflatable and he beats
- 29:34Speaker 4: him up, beats him up.
- 29:38Speaker 3: He of course has been caught. Now.
- 29:41Speaker 4: One of the things that's been happening is, given the
- 29:43Speaker 4: fact that there's no cameras everywhere, pretty much anything that
- 29:47Speaker 4: anyone does is being caught. And secondly, given know that
- 29:50Speaker 4: there are some conservatives and position of authority, you can't
- 29:53Speaker 4: just automatically assume you're gonna get away with it anymore.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Let me quote from Fox News. A Massachusetts man has
- 29:59Speaker 4: been charged after alleged the assaulting a supporter of President
- 30:01Speaker 4: Trump who was wearing an inflatable costume of the president
- 30:04Speaker 4: at a political protest over the weekend.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Police said this.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Occurred on King's Beach in the North Shore, Massachusetts town
- 30:13Speaker 4: of Swampscott, just outside Boston. This is probably I don't
- 30:17Speaker 4: know any about the city, but I'm guessing this is
- 30:19Speaker 4: like Shorewood on steroids.
- 30:21Speaker 3: It's one of those type of places.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Cell Phone video captured the moment that Michael Curly I
- 30:28Speaker 4: think that that's the correct pronunciation.
- 30:30Speaker 3: It maybe curl see. Yeah, I think it's cu rll thirty.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Six ran up behind the man in costume identified as
- 30:37Speaker 4: Jonathan Silvera, and allegedly kicked.
- 30:40Speaker 3: And tackled him from behind. Silvera's girlfriend.
- 30:43Speaker 4: So the guy who's in the inflatable he brings his
- 30:45Speaker 4: girlfriend a log. Now some people are gonna say, well,
- 30:51Speaker 4: he was asking for it. Well, I think he was
- 30:54Speaker 4: trying to trigger them and they took the bait. I
- 30:57Speaker 4: don't think he thought they'd have the crap kicked out
- 30:59Speaker 4: of him. Silvera's girlfriend, Angelo Masariegos, was behind the camera
- 31:05Speaker 4: during the alleged assault. Silvera, who held an American flag
- 31:09Speaker 4: well dressed in the inflatable suit, told Boston twenty five
- 31:12Speaker 4: News he simply wanted to go. He wanted to get
- 31:14Speaker 4: Trump out there and show that he has support. I
- 31:17Speaker 4: love Donald Trump. Swamp Scott Police said Curl hooked Silvera's
- 31:23Speaker 4: legs and wrapped his arms around his neck, knocking him
- 31:27Speaker 4: to the pavement, according to a police report of Pained
- 31:29Speaker 4: by Boston twenty five.
- 31:31Speaker 3: That's a TV stage, don't it. That's my first story.
- 31:37Speaker 3: Here's another one.
- 31:38Speaker 4: This one doesn't directly relate to Trump, but it's along
- 31:41Speaker 4: these lines we've talked.
- 31:43Speaker 3: A little bit.
- 31:43Speaker 4: There's two states that have governor's races this year. Almost
- 31:46Speaker 4: all states have their governor's elections, like Wisconsin does in
- 31:49Speaker 4: even number years. There's a couple of states that do
- 31:53Speaker 4: it in odd number years. There's an election going on
- 31:55Speaker 4: in New Jersey and there's an election going on in Virginia.
- 32:02Speaker 4: In Virginia, the current incumbent Governor Youngkin, he's term limited out.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Virginia is a Democratic state. Youngkin somehow won. The Republicans
- 32:10Speaker 4: are trying to hold the seat. Youngkin's Lieutenant Governor Winsome
- 32:13Speaker 4: Earl Searles, who is black, is the Republican candidate. She's
- 32:19Speaker 4: trailed in the race, but she's gained. She's very conservative
- 32:24Speaker 4: and she's very eloquent.
- 32:26Speaker 3: All right.
- 32:27Speaker 4: James Madison University football game James Addison is a very
- 32:31Speaker 4: good team. If you're not aware that level. Winston, Earl Winston,
- 32:38Speaker 4: Earl Sears was at the game campaigny, you know, shaking
- 32:41Speaker 4: hands to with you.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Know, supporters and so on.
- 32:46Speaker 4: Some guy starts yelling at it. I remember she's a
- 32:48Speaker 4: black woman, thirty six. She's also originally from Haiti. Take
- 32:54Speaker 4: a guess what he yelled at her. Say a guess,
- 32:57Speaker 4: real simple, No, you go beyond the end word. It's
- 33:03Speaker 4: just the kind of thing that you in the past
- 33:05Speaker 4: they always would accuse of a.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Conservative of doing.
- 33:07Speaker 4: When a conservative racist conservative was triggered, he said.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Go back to Haiti. He's captured on video doing it.
- 33:17Speaker 4: The guy has a big time job at Lockheed Martin,
- 33:21Speaker 4: the big defense contractor.
- 33:23Speaker 3: He's been fired.
- 33:25Speaker 4: One of the things that's been happening now, and it's
- 33:28Speaker 4: a good thing, is that it isn't only conservatives who
- 33:32Speaker 4: are getting in trouble for this stuff. When it starts
- 33:37Speaker 4: happening to lefties as well as conservatives. You may get
- 33:42Speaker 4: some lefties who will come back and say, what about
- 33:43Speaker 4: Fraisbach and who is really harmed and shod this, We're
- 33:46Speaker 4: ruined your career and so on. But we saw what
- 33:49Speaker 4: happened to a woman who worked for manpower and a
- 33:54Speaker 4: high powered job who said something I think far less
- 33:58Speaker 4: racist somebody call is nowhere near as racist as go
- 34:02Speaker 4: back to Haiti. If the left is now going to
- 34:10Speaker 4: be on the receiving end of the you're ruining your career.
- 34:14Speaker 4: You're ruining your life the way we conservatives have forever.
- 34:18Speaker 4: At least the playing field has leveled him lit cellf Ohonte,
- 34:22Speaker 4: which gets back to this point with regard to the
- 34:24Speaker 4: guy yelling this go back. I mean, most conservatives who
- 34:26Speaker 4: have any kind of position of status in life would
- 34:28Speaker 4: certainly know that you can't yell anything like that to
- 34:30Speaker 4: a person who is black. The LEFTI have probably never
- 34:33Speaker 4: dawn on it because of this sense of a titlement
- 34:35Speaker 4: that they could be as racist and horrible, as monstrous
- 34:37Speaker 4: as they want because they're never held to account for anything.
- 34:42Speaker 4: That's what's changing the next story. You want to find
- 34:45Speaker 4: a story in the news that is triggering the lefties,
- 34:50Speaker 4: I'm telling you they are beside themselves about the Trump ballroom.
- 34:55Speaker 3: They're just beside it.
- 34:57Speaker 4: If I had no position in whether or not we
- 34:59Speaker 4: needed to improve the b at the White House, I
- 35:01Speaker 4: would be in favor of it just because it's driving
- 35:03Speaker 4: the left he's crazy.
- 35:06Speaker 3: First of all, they're.
- 35:08Speaker 4: Acting as though Trump's gonna take it with him when
- 35:10Speaker 4: he leaves. Trump can only live there for three years
- 35:13Speaker 4: in four more months. Secondly, it has been talked about
- 35:17Speaker 4: forever and ever and ever by both sides that when
- 35:21Speaker 4: the White House hosts Stave ginners, it's almost hardly anybody
- 35:24Speaker 4: can get an invitation because the banquet room or the
- 35:26Speaker 4: ballroom at the White House is tiny. It's been talked
- 35:29Speaker 4: about forever that we can't hold these large things that
- 35:35Speaker 4: you can, for example, have an arts celebration, and you
- 35:40Speaker 4: can't feed a large group of people because the White.
- 35:42Speaker 3: House is a small ballroom.
- 35:44Speaker 4: David Marcus is a columnist for Fox News, writes a
- 35:46Speaker 4: piece on this, and the point that his piece is
- 35:49Speaker 4: that the White House has been renovated and had things
- 35:52Speaker 4: added to it forever by presidents, and always the presidents
- 35:55Speaker 4: who were doing it is.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Because it was something that they wanted to do.
- 36:00Speaker 4: As in the case of Trump, this is something that
- 36:02Speaker 4: will live long beyond him. Paul says, Obama's basketball court,
- 36:07Speaker 4: that's one of them. There's numerous of these in which
- 36:11Speaker 4: presidents have put something in the White House because it
- 36:13Speaker 4: was something that they wanted to do, and there wasn't
- 36:17Speaker 4: a peep of objection.
- 36:18Speaker 3: From anyone over this. Let me quote his piece.
- 36:21Speaker 4: By the way, apparently this is not surprising to be
- 36:24Speaker 4: but among the people most appalled by this are the
- 36:27Speaker 4: Battle Axis from the View again, I wouldn't even just
- 36:30Speaker 4: this is just again, whether or not we need to
- 36:32Speaker 4: have the new ballroom or not, the fact that this
- 36:34Speaker 4: is driving those old women crazy that makes me happy
- 36:38Speaker 4: that they're doing it.
- 36:39Speaker 3: I just the Democrats or socialists or whatever they are.
- 36:45Speaker 4: These days, are hoping. This is David Marcus. And by
- 36:47Speaker 4: the way, that's the name of someone from here in Milwaukee.
- 36:49Speaker 4: That's not who this is. This is a national commentator
- 36:52Speaker 4: who writes for Fox News. Shouldn't have to point that
- 36:53Speaker 4: out in the common name. But I will our hopping
- 36:56Speaker 4: mat over President Donald Trump's construction of a ballroom in
- 36:58Speaker 4: the East wing of.
- 36:59Speaker 3: The White House.
- 37:00Speaker 4: And while it may be the silliest freak out of
- 37:03Speaker 4: the entire Trump era, it is also quite telling. The
- 37:06Speaker 4: ladies on ABC's The View were apoplectic when they saw
- 37:09Speaker 4: images of demolition a fairly ordinary way to begin renovation
- 37:13Speaker 4: at sixteen hundred of the saw this, and you know
- 37:15Speaker 4: they're knockings. Well, how else do you do a renovation
- 37:18Speaker 4: other than knocking down what's already in there. Anybody who's
- 37:21Speaker 4: ever got a new bathroom or a kitchen and their
- 37:23Speaker 4: house realizes they bust up the thing that's already in there. Right,
- 37:27Speaker 4: I'm guessing you get that. Every three years you renovate
- 37:30Speaker 4: something out there in the see you just finish. Say,
- 37:32Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying back to the piece.
- 37:36Speaker 3: What makes this? Oh?
- 37:38Speaker 4: They echoed one time Resident Hillary Clinton's complained another person.
- 37:42Speaker 4: You know why Hillary's hacked off about this? She's she
- 37:45Speaker 4: thinks she should be have been in that White House
- 37:47Speaker 4: for eight years. She still can't stand the fact that
- 37:50Speaker 4: she lost. Can you imagine if she got in with
- 37:53Speaker 4: that ball room would look like? Bill wasn't focused on ballrooms.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Bill was focused on Hell it's too easy. It was
- 38:00Speaker 4: a play on words.
- 38:01Speaker 3: It's two.
- 38:02Speaker 4: You can figure it out. I'm on a podcast, I'm
- 38:09Speaker 4: not allowed to do anything I want. I still can't
- 38:11Speaker 4: bring myself to do anything I want anyway. What makes
- 38:17Speaker 4: this argument so absurd is that Trump is not building
- 38:20Speaker 4: this ballroom for his personal.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Use or glory. It's not a vanity project.
- 38:24Speaker 4: It is a long considered addition to the executive home
- 38:27Speaker 4: that lacked the capacity to hold large indoor events. Trump,
- 38:31Speaker 4: as has always been his want, is looking to create grandeur,
- 38:35Speaker 4: and that seems to be something to which leftists reflexively object.
- 38:40Speaker 4: I think that Marcus is on to a point here.
- 38:42Speaker 4: The Trump want says to be beautiful and great and grand,
- 38:45Speaker 4: and lefties hate anything that in America is beautiful, great
- 38:49Speaker 4: and grand.
- 38:50Speaker 3: I have a post by the way on X it
- 38:54Speaker 3: was picture Paul said me.
- 38:55Speaker 4: I've been talking for some time about how brutally ugly
- 38:58Speaker 4: the new Milwaukee Public muse which isn't going to be
- 39:01Speaker 4: called the new Public Public Museum is. They're building this
- 39:04Speaker 4: thing just to the north of viceer Form, and it's
- 39:08Speaker 4: so unbelievably terribly ugly, and it's in the process of
- 39:12Speaker 4: going up, so you now see more of the exterior
- 39:14Speaker 4: there and just go take a look at it.
- 39:17Speaker 3: That's what lefties want.
- 39:18Speaker 4: They want to spend a fortune to do something that's
- 39:20Speaker 4: so but ugly that you can't stand looking at it,
- 39:23Speaker 4: and then claim that they're on the cutting edge. The
- 39:25Speaker 4: idea of doing something great and beautiful which is you know,
- 39:29Speaker 4: Trump's ballroom is going to be gorgeous. Everything Trump does
- 39:31Speaker 4: is high end. It's the thing that he's put his
- 39:33Speaker 4: name on. He wants the legacy to have created a
- 39:36Speaker 4: beautiful ballroom and left he just can't stand they don't
- 39:39Speaker 4: want a beautiful ballroom, especially as long as Trump is
- 39:42Speaker 4: in the White House. The funny thing about this is
- 39:45Speaker 4: the timeline on this is that it's going to be
- 39:47Speaker 4: fully done about in time for the next president to
- 39:50Speaker 4: come in. I'm guessing if they finish this thing and
- 39:53Speaker 4: AOC gets herself elected, she's not going to close the
- 39:55Speaker 4: ballroom down.
- 39:57Speaker 3: She'll be basket around in that thing and imagine.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Uh.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Trump is obviously not the first president to renovate the
- 40:07Speaker 4: White House. President Franklin Dello Roosevelt put in a swimming pool.
- 40:10Speaker 4: His successor, President Harry Truman, practically gutted the place to
- 40:14Speaker 4: add a balcony. President Richard Nixon covered the swimming pool
- 40:18Speaker 4: but added a bowling alley. No, I think that's worse
- 40:22Speaker 4: than Trump's ball room. Nixon put in a bowling alley
- 40:25Speaker 4: and took the swimming pool out in order to do it.
- 40:28Speaker 3: It doesn't attack I'm just saying I know.
- 40:31Speaker 4: I'm guessing they bitched about that back then because Nixon
- 40:34Speaker 4: was hated. You know, Nixon was actually hated a little
- 40:38Speaker 4: bit more than Reagan, and Reagan was despised Trump. Trump's
- 40:41Speaker 4: all of that simply because the level of hatred that
- 40:43Speaker 4: left has is greater than anything any venom that they
- 40:45Speaker 4: could have hit.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Pretty Nixon put it. It continues here.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Finally, President Barack Obama transformed the tennis court into a
- 40:54Speaker 4: basketball court.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Bomb didn't want to play tennis. He wanted to put it.
- 40:57Speaker 4: And why did Obama put it in a back because he
- 40:59Speaker 4: wanted to play basketball.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Trump isn't doing any.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Of this so he can go do a specific thing.
- 41:06Speaker 4: He believes that the White House, the home of the
- 41:08Speaker 4: government of the United States, should have a grand room
- 41:11Speaker 4: for this. That's his belief and he's never hidden his
- 41:14Speaker 4: beliefs about American greatness and standards and all.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Of this stuff continuing.
- 41:19Speaker 4: In fact, I'm not even gonna continue with Marcus's column
- 41:21Speaker 4: because he makes points that I think are fairly obvious.
- 41:24Speaker 4: But the fact that this triggers the Left just shows
- 41:27Speaker 4: how you're rational.
- 41:28Speaker 3: They've gotten.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Now, you could raise questions about the funding for this,
- 41:32Speaker 4: but it is privately generated, so it's not like when
- 41:36Speaker 4: the government is shut down, we're spending cas payer money
- 41:38Speaker 4: on this. They just don't like the fact that he's
- 41:41Speaker 4: doing it. Continuing, here's that other story.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Forever and ever and ever, the left has tried to
- 41:48Speaker 3: call those of us on the right Nazis.
- 41:50Speaker 4: They've kind of changed the word now to call us fascists.
- 41:55Speaker 4: I believe it's because they have gradually moved toward.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Essentially thinking like the Nazis.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Much of the left hates Jews every bit as much
- 42:08Speaker 4: as the Nazis did. Hitler was a socialist. The name
- 42:13Speaker 4: of the party was something nationalists American Socialist Party. Socialist
- 42:17Speaker 4: was in the party's name, their identification, their demand for
- 42:21Speaker 4: state control, their demand that everyone follow orders and do
- 42:25Speaker 4: things that the way that they want, their loathing of
- 42:27Speaker 4: the Jews. It's all Hitler esque, which brings ourselves to
- 42:31Speaker 4: a candidate who's running for governor of Maine. His name
- 42:34Speaker 4: is Graham Plattner. He's running for the governorship of Maine,
- 42:39Speaker 4: and he's being endorsed by Bernie Sanders. He has on
- 42:43Speaker 4: his arm a Nazi tattoo, and he's had it on
- 42:47Speaker 4: for years now that this story is out there. Bertie
- 42:52Speaker 4: Sanders refuses to repudiate his endorsement. The guy is an
- 42:57Speaker 4: open critic of Israel, as is Bernie Sanders, quoting from
- 43:01Speaker 4: an editorial on this in the Wall Street Journal. And
- 43:04Speaker 4: there was a publication called The Jewish Insider that broke
- 43:07Speaker 4: the story. Platner said, I am not a secret Nazi.
- 43:14Speaker 4: He confirmed that the tattoo, but said he got it
- 43:16Speaker 4: while drunk in Croatia in two thousand and seven and
- 43:19Speaker 4: didn't know what it meant for some two decades. But
- 43:22Speaker 4: on Wednesday he said he finally had it covered up
- 43:25Speaker 4: with a new image. But an acquaintance of Platner told
- 43:29Speaker 4: The Jewish Insider news side that the candidate explained the
- 43:32Speaker 4: tattoo's Nazi connection to him in a cutesy little way
- 43:36Speaker 4: at Capitol Hill bar in twenty twelve.
- 43:38Speaker 3: So, well, this new thing, I didn't know what it was.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Give me a break. Who does it not?
- 43:42Speaker 4: Especially lefties who doesn't know what Nazi symbols look like.
- 43:46Speaker 3: But is this buddy said?
- 43:47Speaker 4: In twenty twelve, he fessed up and while drinking he
- 43:50Speaker 4: told him what it meant.
- 43:51Speaker 3: That's thirteen years ago. He said, Oh, this is my totenkoff.
- 43:57Speaker 3: I didn't even know what that word means. But then'
- 43:58Speaker 3: that sound good. All German words sound good, don't they
- 44:02Speaker 3: toutn Koff, problen Koff.
- 44:05Speaker 4: It just sounds like something that would be a fan
- 44:06Speaker 4: well part because of the whole Nazi thing. All German
- 44:08Speaker 4: words sound offensive because of the German anyway, this is
- 44:11Speaker 4: my totenkoff. That's German for the deathhead symbol of the
- 44:16Speaker 4: SS unit that ran the concentration camps.
- 44:19Speaker 3: I let didn't know.
- 44:21Speaker 4: The totenkov is the deathhead symbol which the SS used.
- 44:26Speaker 4: And this guy tells his friend that's my totenkov. He's
- 44:29Speaker 4: bragging that he's got in his arms something that is
- 44:32Speaker 4: a symbol of the Nazi SS. And it was the
- 44:35Speaker 4: SS that ran the concentration camps for the Holocaust occurred.
- 44:39Speaker 4: So this guy's coming out and saying he told me
- 44:41Speaker 4: this thirteen years ago. Also not buying Plattner's excuse is
- 44:47Speaker 4: his former political director. His political director has quit now
- 44:50Speaker 4: that he found out about this, who resigned last week.
- 44:54Speaker 4: Graham has an anti Semitic tattoo on his chest. He's
- 44:57Speaker 4: not an idiot, He's a military history buff.
- 44:59Speaker 3: She wrote.
- 45:00Speaker 4: We cannot be this painfully stupid, she said, referring to
- 45:03Speaker 4: her fellow Democrats The Wall Street Journal, Oh yes they can.
- 45:07Speaker 4: On Tuesday, Plattner's key supporter, Senator Bernie Sanders, tried to
- 45:10Speaker 4: duck the question. Here's Bertie said, it's easy to do
- 45:15Speaker 4: a Bernie Sanders imitation. They're all bad because all you
- 45:17Speaker 4: have to do is like lower your voice. She's got
- 45:20Speaker 4: that stupid, pompous they ever gonna eat boys that he has.
- 45:23Speaker 3: Ron worried about.
- 45:25Speaker 4: It's fifty thousand American mcde Unnecessarah Lea and are worried
- 45:28Speaker 4: about a tattoo. Suddenly Bernie Sanders says, why are you
- 45:32Speaker 4: looking a big deal about a tattoo? All the Lefteris
- 45:35Speaker 4: have ever cared is about symbolism like this. These are
- 45:39Speaker 4: the people that claim they you know, they claim they
- 45:41Speaker 4: were Nazis.
- 45:42Speaker 3: And Charlott's swell at all of this. It's the thing
- 45:43Speaker 3: that they've.
- 45:44Speaker 4: Carried on about forever and ever and ever. I actually
- 45:46Speaker 4: hope this guy stays in the race. I hope he
- 45:48Speaker 4: becomes the main Democratic candidate. Hope Tammy Balden and all
- 45:51Speaker 4: the others of them endorse.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Just so we know.
- 45:55Speaker 4: Again, this isn't all Trump arrangements syndrome, but broadly speaking,
- 45:59Speaker 4: they've all lost their minds, and I think that the
- 46:02Speaker 4: presence of Trump is fueled this insanity. I want to
- 46:08Speaker 4: cover a story here about a week ago, not sure
- 46:12Speaker 4: exactly the timing. On the podcast, I did a brief
- 46:16Speaker 4: segment on what I think is the crashing of the
- 46:22Speaker 4: subprime loan market. In auto loans, subprime is not credit worthy,
- 46:28Speaker 4: in other words, high interest rates loans that are made
- 46:31Speaker 4: to people who don't have very good credit. Often you
- 46:36Speaker 4: make these loans because you can repossess the car, so
- 46:38Speaker 4: you get something back, and you try not to be
- 46:40Speaker 4: upside out about it, and so on. Several companies, however, recently,
- 46:43Speaker 4: have gone bankrupt. The take that not only I'm not
- 46:47Speaker 4: unique in this, many people have the same take that
- 46:51Speaker 4: the reason they're going bankrupt isn't just because of the
- 46:54Speaker 4: economy slowing, it's because of the deportations. That a huge
- 46:58Speaker 4: segment of these loans being made to illegal immigrants. I
- 47:03Speaker 4: can tell you just from scuttle but that I've heard
- 47:06Speaker 4: that virtually all illegals who buy cars are financing them.
- 47:10Speaker 4: Very few cash buyers easy to figure out why right, Well,
- 47:15Speaker 4: if I am deported, how are they gonna got that
- 47:17Speaker 4: and not gonna keep paying my ky loan. When I
- 47:23Speaker 4: brought that segment up, I said, there's a stock of
- 47:27Speaker 4: the stock market that I felt was extremely overvalued. I
- 47:30Speaker 4: didn't want to mention the name of the company on
- 47:32Speaker 4: the air because I didn't want to suggest that somebody
- 47:38Speaker 4: short the stock. And I said, I think it's a very,
- 47:40Speaker 4: very stupid thing to short a stock that's going up.
- 47:44Speaker 4: You can lose an infinite amount of money, literally an
- 47:50Speaker 4: infinite amount of money. But it's a company that does
- 47:54Speaker 4: a lot of business on the low end. The stock
- 47:59Speaker 4: price is done nothing but explode over the last several years.
- 48:03Speaker 4: Finally the stock hit a crack this past week, fell
- 48:08Speaker 4: thirteen percent in one day, and it was because they
- 48:10Speaker 4: were linked to this whole problem of delinquencies in subprime loans.
- 48:16Speaker 4: I'm not suggesting that anybody short the stock. I would
- 48:19Speaker 4: never do that. It's an extremely risky thing to do.
- 48:23Speaker 4: But I do wonder about the company. It's Carvana. Carvana
- 48:27Speaker 4: is one of the biggest car sellers in the world.
- 48:30Speaker 4: They advertise aggressively and their market base is to go
- 48:33Speaker 4: after kind of the lower the lower middle part of
- 48:36Speaker 4: the market, and if you look at their financials, they'd
- 48:40Speaker 4: carry a lot of paper and very few of their
- 48:42Speaker 4: purchase their sales are to cash buyers and so on. Again,
- 48:46Speaker 4: I'm not suggesting anybody short the stock, and maybe Carvan
- 48:48Speaker 4: is going to be just fine, but there are no
- 48:50Speaker 4: some analysts who are taking the pe on that stock
- 48:53Speaker 4: is eighty one and they're in an area right now
- 48:56Speaker 4: of the economy.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Thanks very and.
- 48:59Speaker 4: I think you know, the importation thing has a lot
- 49:01Speaker 4: of components to it. They were going to be meant,
- 49:04Speaker 4: if we continue to have a significant number of people
- 49:08Speaker 4: who are illegal deported, there are going to be ramifications
- 49:11Speaker 4: in the parts of the economy where those illegal immigrants
- 49:14Speaker 4: were economically active, and the car market might be one
- 49:19Speaker 4: of them. But certainly a company who's we met one
- 49:22Speaker 4: of the companies that went bankrupt a couple of weeks ago.
- 49:25Speaker 4: I mentioned the company's logo. Company is called Tricolor. The
- 49:30Speaker 4: company's logo was almost exact same thing as the Mexican flag.
- 49:33Speaker 4: They were not hiding who it was that they were
- 49:35Speaker 4: marketing to. Well, as many of these individuals are booted
- 49:39Speaker 4: out of the country, so much for their repayment of
- 49:42Speaker 4: any types of loans. It is an economic story to
- 49:47Speaker 4: keep an eye on. And finally, this the World Series
- 49:50Speaker 4: starts Friday night. I mean, I think the Dodgers are
- 49:53Speaker 4: going to win. But what's the point of saying that,
- 49:55Speaker 4: Because everybody thinks the Dodgers are going to win. Maybe
- 49:56Speaker 4: they will, maybe they want. The one thing they have
- 49:58Speaker 4: going against them is Toronto does home field advantage. There
- 50:02Speaker 4: is a lengthy story in the Wall Street Journal today
- 50:04Speaker 4: about the insane payroll of the Los Angeles Dodgers and
- 50:09Speaker 4: the story Pat Murphy was at the Bucks game and
- 50:13Speaker 4: the season opened it for the Bucks last day. You
- 50:15Speaker 4: gotta you got a larger hand than Chris Middleton got
- 50:18Speaker 4: the second largest head of the night. Yanni's got the
- 50:20Speaker 4: largest head of the night, but number three was Pat
- 50:22Speaker 4: Murphy sitting and the pet vers very popular. Well, there
- 50:24Speaker 4: was a thing in which Pat Murphy was pimping the
- 50:26Speaker 4: Dodgers when they signed Sho Shohai Atani, and it makes
- 50:29Speaker 4: its way out of the Wall Street journalists. They try
- 50:31Speaker 4: to draw attention to the difference between a company like
- 50:33Speaker 4: the Dodgers that spends an insane amount of money on
- 50:36Speaker 4: players at a company like the Brewers. I'm gonna read
- 50:38Speaker 4: the first you progress because it's funny. Two years ago,
- 50:41Speaker 4: the Los Angeles Dodgers spent more than one billion dollars
- 50:44Speaker 4: in the span of a couple of weeks to sign
- 50:46Speaker 4: Shoai Yotani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Yamamoto is the Asian marka
- 50:52Speaker 4: pitcher who impact pitched.
- 50:53Speaker 3: To get well.
- 50:53Speaker 4: They all shut out the Brewers. Around the same time,
- 50:56Speaker 4: the Milwaukee Brewers responded to the Dodgers largest with am
- 51:00Speaker 4: of their own that received considerable less attention. They signed.
- 51:04Speaker 4: They acquired journeyman catcher Eric Hayes for a million bucks.
- 51:11Speaker 4: One million is what whoor has got cut.
- 51:14Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 51:15Speaker 4: By the way, do you know how much money Danny
- 51:16Speaker 4: Jansen stands to make next year? The guy that the
- 51:18Speaker 4: Brewers picked up when they cut has twelve million. That's
- 51:21Speaker 4: an option. That option is not going to.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Be picked up.
- 51:26Speaker 4: This contrast wasn't lost on Pat Murphy, the Brewers newly
- 51:29Speaker 4: hired managers. This was two years ago when Patt had
- 51:32Speaker 4: just been hired, so he fired off a jokey text
- 51:35Speaker 4: message to Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman, Congratulations
- 51:40Speaker 4: to your scouting and player develop making fun of them.
- 51:42Speaker 3: What great scouts here you found out, Toddy.
- 51:46Speaker 4: Congratulations to your scouting department and player development group for
- 51:51Speaker 4: turning over.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Every wreck to find these guys.
- 51:55Speaker 4: Sorry, we had to sign our backup catcher on the
- 51:58Speaker 4: same day to take away your shine. Now, the point
- 52:01Speaker 4: of the story is that the Dodgers have spent an
- 52:05Speaker 4: insane amount of money, and that's why they have Otania,
- 52:07Speaker 4: It's why they have a number of other players. The
- 52:09Speaker 4: caveat to that is there are other teams that spend
- 52:12Speaker 4: almost as much as the Dodgers and have not had
- 52:15Speaker 4: the same.
- 52:15Speaker 3: Successes, say the Brewers.
- 52:18Speaker 4: The problem with the Dodgers is they not only are
- 52:21Speaker 4: spending more money than everybody else, unlike a lot of
- 52:24Speaker 4: other big money teams, they're spending it wisely, and that,
- 52:28Speaker 4: in my opinion, is why baseball needs a salary cap.
- 52:31Speaker 4: Spending a lot of money is not a guarantee of success,
- 52:34Speaker 4: but if you spend a lot of money wisely, you
- 52:38Speaker 4: are almost guaranteed to be more successful.
- 52:41Speaker 3: Than everyone else.
- 52:43Speaker 4: So this means people are saying that this means that
- 52:45Speaker 4: everybody should cheer against the Dodgers. The problem is Toronto
- 52:48Speaker 4: is also a top five payroll team. They're also in
- 52:51Speaker 4: an extremely huge market.
- 52:53Speaker 3: I think the.
- 52:53Speaker 4: Dodgers were not the best team all year, but the
- 52:56Speaker 4: best team right now. Given the fact that they knocked
- 52:59Speaker 4: out the Brewers, I would mind them seeing them not
- 53:01Speaker 4: go Toronto, But there is that whole issue with regard
- 53:04Speaker 4: to the payroll. This is the Mark Belling Podcast. This
- 53:09Speaker 4: is the Mark Belling Podcast, and it's time for our
- 53:11Speaker 4: weekly football preview and some point spread picks. I'm looking
- 53:15Speaker 4: forward for a change to the point spread picks because
- 53:17Speaker 4: I'm having a really good year. But before we get
- 53:19Speaker 4: to that, we're going to preview some football games this weekend.
- 53:22Speaker 4: I'm joined by Mike burletta of American Sports Analysts in Madison.
- 53:25Speaker 4: Asawins dot com is their website. Mike, good afternoon and
- 53:31Speaker 4: a good day, I guess, and tell us what's going
- 53:34Speaker 4: on this weekend at ASA.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Well, we had just to be upfront.
- 53:38Speaker 4: We did.
- 53:38Speaker 2: We had a poor college outing last weekend and okay,
- 53:42Speaker 2: NFL we broke about even last week and we won
- 53:44Speaker 2: a six star in an NFL and lost a six
- 53:46Speaker 2: star in college. Kind of split out in the big games.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Not one hundred percent sure what's going on this week,
- 53:51Speaker 2: and I would just visit our site tomorrow, take a look,
- 53:54Speaker 2: see what we've got. We'll have a weekend package up
- 53:57Speaker 2: in big game packages up to move.
- 53:59Speaker 4: Okay, let's start talking about college football first, and this
- 54:03Speaker 4: week I pulled out two games that are really similar.
- 54:07Speaker 4: They're both from the SEC. All four teams involved have
- 54:12Speaker 4: a record of six and one on the season, and
- 54:16Speaker 4: in the cases of I don't know two or three
- 54:18Speaker 4: of them, they're not the kinds of teams that you
- 54:21Speaker 4: think of as being national powers, but all four of
- 54:23Speaker 4: them are ranked. The first game I want to talk
- 54:25Speaker 4: about is Mississippi and Oklahoma. Oklahoma has a very good defense. Mississippi,
- 54:33Speaker 4: since Lane Kiffin has gotten there, seems to be one
- 54:37Speaker 4: notch below the very top tier of the SEC, which
- 54:40Speaker 4: is the very top tier of college football. Mississippi has
- 54:44Speaker 4: a very good offense. As usual, this year, they play Oklahoma,
- 54:47Speaker 4: whose defense is very good. Your thoughts on the game.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Oklahoma is a five point favorite in that game
- 54:55Speaker 2: at home, and you kind of hit it on the head.
- 54:58Speaker 2: It's going to come down to old. Missus offense is
- 55:02Speaker 2: really good. They're average thirty seven points per game, but
- 55:04Speaker 2: they haven't played a defense quite like Oklahoma. Yet the
- 55:07Speaker 2: best defense Old Missus played is LSU and they scored
- 55:10Speaker 2: twenty four points in that game. Last week, they did
- 55:13Speaker 2: score thirty five points in a loss against Georgia, but
- 55:17Speaker 2: only had three hundred and fifty total yards. Can they
- 55:19Speaker 2: bounce back the way they lost last week? They were
- 55:22Speaker 2: up nine in the fourth quarter and got out scored
- 55:24Speaker 2: seventeen to zero against Georgia. You mentioned Oklahoma.
- 55:29Speaker 3: I believe that game was at Georgia, correct, it was.
- 55:32Speaker 4: And this game's on the road too, so they have
- 55:34Speaker 4: to go from Georgia to Oklahoma, which is that's daunting,
- 55:37Speaker 4: but that's what the SEC is, I guess is the
- 55:40Speaker 4: Badger's going to test. That's also what the Big Ten
- 55:42Speaker 4: is anyway.
- 55:44Speaker 2: And you mentioned their defense. For people that don't follow
- 55:46Speaker 2: it close, Oklahoma's got the best defense in the country.
- 55:49Speaker 2: They give up two hundred and thirteen yards per game,
- 55:51Speaker 2: they're number one in yards per play allowed, and they
- 55:53Speaker 2: give up nine points per game. Ohio State's the only
- 55:55Speaker 2: better defense when it comes to scoring. In seven games
- 55:59Speaker 2: this Yearklahoma's allowed five offensive touchdowns in seven games. It's
- 56:04Speaker 2: going to be an interesting battle to see, which you know,
- 56:07Speaker 2: Ole miss offense as good as we think, or is
- 56:09Speaker 2: Oklahoma's defense as good as we think? We'll see how
- 56:12Speaker 2: it plays out, but Oklahoma is a five point favorite in.
- 56:15Speaker 4: This Oklahoma has really transformed its program. They had the
- 56:19Speaker 4: really high powered rocket offense, and then their coach went
- 56:22Speaker 4: off to USC and they hired the defensive coordinator I
- 56:25Speaker 4: believe from Clemson, and the offense at Oklahoma isn't that good,
- 56:29Speaker 4: but he's brought in an extremely good defense. So the
- 56:33Speaker 4: Oklahoma program has pulled off the feet of just completely
- 56:37Speaker 4: reinventing itself and making it work.
- 56:40Speaker 3: That's not always easy to do, but they seem to be.
- 56:43Speaker 4: They seem to be back as I say that both
- 56:46Speaker 4: teams are six and one, No, that's all together, that's
- 56:48Speaker 4: not just the conference seems to be evenly matched.
- 56:50Speaker 3: I wonder if the.
- 56:51Speaker 4: Game is at Mississippi, if maybe Mississippi would be favored.
- 56:55Speaker 4: Very similar game, although maybe more interest than given the
- 56:58Speaker 4: teams involved. Zuri at Vanderbilt, I'll admit I felt for
- 57:04Speaker 4: years Vanderbilt needed to drop out of the SEC. To me,
- 57:08Speaker 4: they're like Northwestern is in the Big Ten. It's very
- 57:11Speaker 4: hard for a program like that to compete against its
- 57:15Speaker 4: private school high academic school doesn't have as huge an
- 57:19Speaker 4: alumni base because the enrollment isn't as large, and they've
- 57:22Speaker 4: been overmatched in most sports forever and ever and ever,
- 57:26Speaker 4: and in football they were almost always finishing last. Somehow
- 57:31Speaker 4: the current coach has turned that program around. They're very good.
- 57:35Speaker 4: If you would have told me five years ago that
- 57:38Speaker 4: Vanderbilt would be ranked tenth in the country at any point,
- 57:42Speaker 4: I'd say it havef to be forty years down the
- 57:43Speaker 4: line where something would have to be have to be
- 57:45Speaker 4: incredibly different. But they're six and one. They ranked tenth
- 57:48Speaker 4: in the country. They play Missouri, a team that joined
- 57:52Speaker 4: the SEC a few years ago, I think, also a
- 57:55Speaker 4: team that you think would be up against it when
- 57:57Speaker 4: they were in the Big I guess the Big Eight
- 58:00Speaker 4: at the time, they weren't that good, but they're now
- 58:03Speaker 4: a dominant power in the SEC as well.
- 58:06Speaker 3: Two teams that have sort of emerged.
- 58:08Speaker 4: And there's still a lot of season left and they
- 58:09Speaker 4: can take losses, but both teams appear to be very,
- 58:13Speaker 4: very good, and I think in both instances you have
- 58:15Speaker 4: to credit coaches who've come in and excelled at programs.
- 58:19Speaker 4: Ritzman hard to excel, especially Vanderbilt where there's just no
- 58:22Speaker 4: history of it at all.
- 58:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean zero history. They showed some signs last year.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Mark they had some.
- 58:29Speaker 4: They did, they did, they were It never happens all
- 58:32Speaker 4: at once, but they showed improvement last year and now
- 58:34Speaker 4: this year they're.
- 58:35Speaker 3: The top ten.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Yeah. And to put in perspective their situation. So they
- 58:41Speaker 2: were favored last week against LSU by one and a half,
- 58:45Speaker 2: they won the game by seven. It's the first time
- 58:48Speaker 2: they were favored against LSU since nineteen forty eight, my goodness,
- 58:54Speaker 2: and they won that game. And to put it even
- 58:56Speaker 2: in more perspectives, so they're favored this week again. They're
- 58:59Speaker 2: faired by two and a half against Missouri. Going into
- 59:02Speaker 2: last week, the last time Vanderbilt was favored in an
- 59:05Speaker 2: SEC game was twenty eighteen. They had gone fifty one
- 59:09Speaker 2: straight conference games as an underdog until last week. And
- 59:13Speaker 2: now they're favored and back to back weeks. How do
- 59:15Speaker 2: they handle the expectations now they have the target on
- 59:18Speaker 2: their back. They're favored back to back weeks. ESPN game days.
- 59:22Speaker 2: There there's more distractions. They are in the better situation.
- 59:26Speaker 2: All that being said, here, they had a bye week
- 59:29Speaker 2: entering last week So now they're home. Back to back
- 59:31Speaker 2: after a bye, Missouri played on the road at Auburn
- 59:35Speaker 2: won in double overtime twenty three to seventeen. A week earlier,
- 59:38Speaker 2: another game down to the wire for Missouri against Alabama.
- 59:41Speaker 2: They lost by three. They're on the road again. Now
- 59:44Speaker 2: it's a tough spot for Missouri. But we'll see how
- 59:48Speaker 2: Vandy handles expectations now. They're in a different role now
- 59:53Speaker 2: this weekend, I'll tell a lot about.
- 59:54Speaker 3: The they are.
- 59:55Speaker 4: And I'm not sure. I really am not sure who
- 59:57Speaker 4: the better team is. Vanderbilt's favored, but I think that's
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: because they're at home again.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: Just like the other game.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: I think if this game was at Missouri, Missouri would
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: probably be favored.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: Let's turn our attention to the NFL.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: The Packers play the Steelers, and the obvious storyline is
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers face is Green Bay, but there are other
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: ones as well. I mean, the Steelers are always pretty good,
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: but they're coming off of a terrible loss. I mean,
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: for people who think that the Packers were unconvincing when
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: they played Cincinnati, Pittsburgh had a very very difficult time
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: and effect.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: Lost to them as well.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: The Steelers' offense both sides of the ball with Pittsburgh
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: seems to be inconsistent. My problem with the Packers is, well,
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: they're for to one and one, which is a first place.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: Record in the eye test.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: They still ever since the first two weeks of the season,
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: since we've gotten past those two games, they haven't looked
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: to me to be that impressive, even though they keep
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: winning the games at Pittsburgh, the Packers are favorite on
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: the road by about three. Tough game to figure out.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: What are your thoughts on it?
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you mentioned the Packers just the eye test. I
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: agree with you. After the first two games Detroit Washington,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: you know, most people thought, well, that looks the Packers
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: look like maybe the best team in the NFL, and
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: just spread wise, they've been overvalued. They haven't covered since
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: those first two games. They're zero and four against the
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: spread their last four games, losing by about six points
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: a game to the spread. Pittsburgh is not as good
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: as their record right now. They're four and two. They
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: are ranked twenty fifth or lower in both total offense
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: and total defense. They're getting out gained by almost eighty
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: yards per game. They found a way to be four
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: and two. The one thing couple spread things here, Mark
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: the one thing about Pittsburgh. They're one of the best
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: home underdog teams period in the NFL, and this has
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: been for a long time. They're four and one against
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: the spread since the start of last season as a
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: home underdog. If you go back to two thousand, they're
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: twenty five and nine against the spread as a home underdog.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Green Bay as a road favorite since twenty twenty two
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: is four and ten against the spread, and Jordan loves
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: since he started as a road favorite two and seven
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: against the spread. It's a better situation for Pittsburgh, right.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: They have ten days off after their dad loss to Cincinnati.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: Green Bay had the travel problems last week, got to
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Arizona late, could have lost that game. Now they're on
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: the road again. Yeah, I think it's a dangerous game
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: for the Packers, and I don't think the Pittsburgh is
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: all that good. I think the situation favores Pittsburgh here.
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: The other game that I pulled out this week is
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: I just think it's a really interesting game. It's Dallas
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: and Denver. The coach I think might have, especially when healthy,
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: the best offense in the NFL, and the worst defense.
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: Denver has a very very good defense, and their offense
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: last week was atrocious the first three quarters, and then
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: on the fourth quarter they scored thirty three points in
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: one quarter to come from behind, one of the biggest
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: comebacks in NFL history. So curious team, But clearly I
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: think you can say that the strength of Denver is
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: their defense, and the strength of the Cowboys is the offense.
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: And Dallas's defense is their incredible weakness. Usually, when a
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: good offense faces a good defense, you have to side
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: with the defense.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: What do you think about this game?
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you hit it right on the head
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: with Dall they ranked number one in total offense and
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: last in total defense. That's just the number of straight numbers.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: They're first into offense, last in defense.
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: I have to also think that based on just six
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: weeks of this, the Packers got the better of the
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: Parsons trade. Now, admittedly the Packers gave up draft choices,
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: then you have to valuate over the long haul, but
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: Dallas clearly needs Parsons, and I think Green Bay would
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: be lost without him. I mean, it wasn't a straight
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: up trade of Parsons for Kenny Clark, but at least
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: in terms of this year on the field. It is
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: the other parts. The draft choices are in the future.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: But Dallas's defense having lost Parsons is just they give
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: up a ton of points. But I'm just I make
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: their offense they have just they're nothing but all pro
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: receivers and they're helping Dak Prescott to get into the
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: MVP talk just because he's got such great receivers out there,
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: and not a bad running game either.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: Anyway, Yeah, they're games. This year. Dallas games are averaging
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: sixty one total points per game, which is highest in
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: the NFL. They're averaging seven touchdowns combined per game, number
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: one in the NFL, and they're averaging almost eight hundred
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: totally yards per game, most in the NFL. Those are
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: just Dallas games. The Denver game we talked about last week,
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: Denver scored twenty five points in the last five minutes
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: and twenty seconds of the game last week to win,
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: come back and win. They only led the game for
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: a minute the whole game and they ended up winning
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: thirty three to thirty two. To put that in perspective,
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: and you may have heard this, this is not my
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: stat I found this stat over the last sixteen hundred
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: games where team in the NFL led by eighteen or
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: more with less than sixteen with less than six minutes
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: to go, those teams were sixteen hundred and zero.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, that's surprise.
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: Now in college, I know that's not the case because
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: there's been lots of wild comebacks in college.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: Yeah, And that he didn't say thirty eight point lead.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: I think you said it was an eighteen point.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Lead, eighteen or more with less than six minutes to
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: go in the game. Those teams have won sixteen hundred.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: And the key is it's not seventeen, it's eighteen, meaning
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: it's a three. It's three scores that you have to
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: come up with, and three scores and probably three touchdowns
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: unless you get a two point conversion or something in there.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: So eighteen becomes a hard number just in terms of
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: having the time available. It requires, well, it requires two things.
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: It requires the other team to play a great game
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: to that point, to be une by as much as
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: they were, and then a total meltdown. And if any
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: team was capable of that, it's been the Giants who've
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: been pulling this for the last two or three years.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Yes, that is true. This is gonna be a great game, Dad,
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Like you said, Denver's offense Dallas defense the total open
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: forty seven and a half and moved up to fifty
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: and a half, So that might be that might be
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: telling people are thinking, people that know what they're doing
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: think it's going to be a high scoring game. And
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: I don't disagree.
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and I don't think anybody can stop Dallas, but
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: I'm not sure that they're going to win the game,
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: which certainly implies a high scoring game. Okay, time to
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: get to some pointspread selections. Mike has made a tremendous
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: recovery after his disgraceful startup zero to five. You've done
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: everything that you can since then to make that record better,
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: which is win three games in a row.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: In fact, looking at our.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: Picks last week, my three favorite games pro in college
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: for combined for the three that were picked on this show.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: My own pick obviously was my favorite, Mike's pick was
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: a second, and Paul's pick, which lost, was my third
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: favorite pick. Anyway, recapping the picks from all of us,
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: I took the Bears to beat the Saints by more
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: than four and a half, and they won by twelve,
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: twenty six to fourteen, Mike went against Wisconsin, laying twenty
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: five and a half Ohio State. Wisconsin's defense played very
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: good and their offense again was non existent. Ohio State
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: won thirty four to nothing, So that was a win.
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: And Paul took the Bikings one and a half point
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: underdog over the Eagles, and that was a loser.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: On twenty two to twenty eight.
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: So Paul's at two and six, Mics improving up to
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: three and five, and I'm sail.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: Along at six and two. But all of that is history.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: What have you done for me lately? Well, we're gonna
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: find out right now, Paul, you get to go first.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: Paul says he can't pick his nose. I, as I said,
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: I kind of liked I did like your pick last week,
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: but it was mostly I don't know what to think
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: of Philadelphia right now. I just one week they look terrible,
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: one week they look good, very inconsistent. The Bikings I
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: just think are an average team with average quarterbacks. But
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: Philadelphia surprised me and bouncing back in there. Anyway, what
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: do you want to go with, Paul? You're going to
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: go to a college game. You were just see that
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: you're in just desperate straits right now, you're giving up
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: on the NFL, that you're going to college. He's going
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: to go to George Case stands around and go to
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: the opposite All right, what game were you asking about?
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: Wisconsin and Oregon? The game is at Oregon, Wisconsin completing
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: this brutal schedule streak that they've been in. He wants
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: the over under in the Wisconsin Oregon game.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: Oh and the point spread.
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: Current point spread is thirty three and a half Oregon,
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: and the total is forty three and a half. You've
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: got one of those situations in which a big spread
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: and a low total, meaning the odds makers think that
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: the underdog isn't going to score much. And it's not
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: surprising Wisconsin is not sword in two games in a row.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: Those are the lines, though, forty three and a half
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: and thirty one and a half. Thirty one and a
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: half for the point spread and the total.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Let me go check it again. Now you got me
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: mixed up.
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: I think it was forty three and a half, but
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: I want to make sure I'm correct.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Paul says, he knows what I've It is forty three
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: and a half. Portland. He's saying Portland. You know, so Littois,
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: you mean Oregon Portland.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: First of all, Portland is a city, it's not the
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: name of Well, there is a university called Portland, but
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: I think they only play basketball. Secondly, the University of
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: Oregon is not in Portland. It's it's in kind of
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: like a suburb. It's in the metro area. I believe
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: is you're taking Oregon, is that what you're saying, that's
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: one will be the one that you're probably right there.
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: So you can't even spit out your pick other than
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: Wisconsin can't score. Is there any insight you want to
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: bring to us on this? They are ranked sixth in
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: the country. Their only loss is to another really interesting team, Indiana,
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: who beat them.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: Indiana is just.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: There's just a lot of I talked about Vanderbilt. Indiana
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: is the other just shocking team about how good they are.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: That was their one loss. You're right, Pauls's the players
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: look like they may have given up. I actually thought
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: they'd give up against Ohio State, and they didn't. I
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: thought they as hard as they could, especially on defense,
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: and it still still didn't do any good. So that's
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: Paul's pick before we get a reaction from Mike on
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: that game. It's my game as well, and I have
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: the exact same pick. I'm taking Oregon. There are four
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: games that I like this weekend and two that I
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: like almost equally, and I'm gonna mention when I'm not
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: taking even though it just there's a problem with the points.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: Spread on it.
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: I really think Atlanta is gonna bomb Miami and this
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: is going to be the week that McDaniel gets fired
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: as the coach of the Dolphins. The problem that I
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: have is that the spread is seven and a half
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: and not seven. I hate three and a half and
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: I hate seven and a half. I actually think Atlanta
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: can win the game buy better than two touchdowns. Miami
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: is an absolute mess. You talk about a team that's
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: quit their best player. Tyreek Hill is out forever. The
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: quarterback is banged up and not playing very well, the
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: players are tired of the weirdo coach. And Atlanta is
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: one of the best two or three defenses in the league.
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: They're only three and three, but their defense is really good.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: But I'm not taking that. I'm just going to go
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: back to the Badger game and just use basic logic here.
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: I think you have another week in which Wisconsin, with
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: no matter who the quarterback is going to be, if
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: it's going to be the third string of the second stringer,
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: they've shown no ability to score whatsoever. Oregon's offense is better,
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: I think than the Ohio State offense that Wisconsin played
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: last week. Last week, Wisconsin was at least at home
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: in Madison. Oregon is at home here. Oregon has a
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: bye next week, so they have nothing to leave on
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: the table here. And I just think that Wisconsin has
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: gone through this grinder of playing Iowa and Ohio State
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: to extremely physical teams, and they were crushed by both
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: of them. I think that the team, even if it
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: hasn't mentally quit, has physically just beaten down. And I
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: think that they're going to have no answers for Oregon,
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: and I fear that it's going to be ugly. It's
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: more points than you did against Ohio State, but the
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: game is at Oregon and Wisconsin is another week beaten up.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: Wisconsin sustained quite a few injuries last week, with players
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: nicked all over the place. I don't know how they
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: keep it within that line. I would actually go over
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: the total because I think Oregon's going to score more
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: than forty four points because the Wisconsin defense has played valiantly,
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: but they're beaten up and they have to spend the
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: entire game on the field because the offense can't move
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: the ball at all. So I'm going to go and
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: kind of jump where I normally come in and pick,
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: because I'm reiterating Paul's pick.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: So rather than well, yeah, has it, Paul and I
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: are on Portland.
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: Actually that's a bad team to be on right now,
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: given the fact that the Portland basketball team's coach has
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: been charged by the FBI and in a gambling investigation.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Anyway, let's go.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: Let's get a quick reaction from Mike on that game.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Unless Mike Cook went against Wisconsin himself last week, that's
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: not going to be your pick this week, is it.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: No, it's not. But I don't disagree with you guys.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: I mean, they haven't scored the last two weeks. Oregon
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: as good as their offenses, they have a.
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: Top five defense defense actually better, and you know their
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: coach is a defensive coach, Lanning.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: I think their defense is better than their offense.
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: There with Ohio States defense, and I think that the
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: offense is actually I just the one pause I have
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: is they show showed a chink in the armor and
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: losing at home to Indiana and their win over Penn
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: State is no longer as impressive as it seemed to be.
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: I just think that Wisconsin's whipped that there and it's
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: a spectacularly good spot for Oregon back home with the
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: buy next.
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: And they're coming off of.
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: They killed Rutgers last week, and Rutgers for Rutgers is
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: better than Wisconsin, I think, And they killed them last
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: week and they killed them at Rutgers a West Coast
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: team going to the East. So they have everything going
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: for them in this situation, and wisconstant, is everything going
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: against it. I just think there's a distract shit with
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: is the ax gonna come down? And fickle all of that. Anyway,
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: let's get a.
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: Pick, Mike. Where are we going?
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Okay, two games? I need the spreads for first one,
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: I need a total on the Mississippi Oklahoma game that
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: we just talked about. Fifty is the number one. Fifty.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that over under on that game is fifty four
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: and a half.
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: And then let's look at this the just the spread
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: on the Texas and Mississippi State games one seventy five,
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: one seventy.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: Six, seven. Texas is only favored by seven. I think
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: the most disappointing offense college football is Texas's offense. And
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: you can't even put it all. I think on Arch Manning,
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: he's he hasn't looked terrible. I just think that just
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: surprising from being a member of the Manning family. He
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: takes forever to make a decision, the kind of the
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: exact opposite of what Peyton Manning at least was known for.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: Arch Manning will sit in the pocket and he he's
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: aversed a guessing, he's been drilled into him, don't commit turnovers.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: But he waits too long with the ball. And but
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: Mississippi sty it's not very good either. So Texas on
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: the road favored by seven.
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: Mike, let's go at the first game. You talked, I'm
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: going under fifty four and a half and they'll miss
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Oklahoma game.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: Yeah, And we discussed that it's a great defense against
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: a very very good offense in Mississippi, and you're leaning
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: on the side of the defense by saying under the total.
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: Give me your reasons why.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Yeah, So we talked about a lot of it. A
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: couple of things I didn't touch on. If you look
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: at Mississippi's offense, again, they averaged thirty seven points per game,
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: but their average defensive team they've faced bring seventy third
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: in total defense. They played three top fifty defenses this
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: year and scored twenty four against LSU, twenty four against
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Washington State, who is like forty ninth in total defense,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: and again last week they scored thirty five against Georgia,
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: but only had three hundred and fifty total yards. That
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: normally quits the low twenties scoring wise, so they got
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: a little lucky to get to that point. And you
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: mentioned it. We didn't talk about much about the offense
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: for Oklahoma, but they've been held to twenty six points
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: or less and four of their six FBS games, and
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: the two they did they top twenty six was against
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: Kent who's one hundred and thirty third in total defense.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: In Temple was seventy fifth in total defense, so they
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: don't have a real explosive offense. I think this is
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: gonna be a more of a grinder game. Last year
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: they played in the final scores twenty six to fourteen,
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: and that's when Ole Miss had a phenomenal offense with
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: Jackson Dark Again, it was twenty six to fourteen in
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: that game. I think this goes well under fifty four
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: and a half.
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: Paul made it error, which I'll point out.
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: There's no reason to point it out other than I
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: enjoy playing O it's Mississippi, not Mississippi State that they're
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: they're playing anyway. Okay, that's Mike's pick, and it's an
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: interesting one. He says the under in Oklahoma and Mississippi
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: under fifty four and a half. Paul and I both
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: think Oregon beats Wisconsin by thirty two or more. We'll
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: be back with another football preview at the end of
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: next Thursday's podcast, and that's it for the weekend.
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: Talk to you on Monday.
