- 0:21talking everything naughties, nostalgia and well, nonsense.
- 0:25I'm sham. And I'm Tay and on this weeks
- 0:28episode we are very, very excited because not only are we
- 0:31introducing a new game of Finish the Lyric, talking all things
- 0:35Busted and McFly and doing our usual this or that, but we get
- 0:38to do it all with our very exciting guest this week, Hannah
- 0:41Dorman. Yes, this is super exciting.
- 0:44If you don't know Hannah Dorman well, where have you been?
- 0:47She's a singer-songwriter slash influencer with around 500,000
- 0:51followers online combined. She loves McFly and makes a lot
- 0:54of content around nostalgia and music.
- 0:57Also, have you heard her voice? I mean, wow.
- 1:00So good and exactly whether you're a hardcore busted or
- 1:04McFly fan, a nostalgia lover, or you just accidentally press play
- 1:08and stayed, which is fine, welcome.
- 1:10We're very glad that you're here.
- 1:12So Shannon, how has your week been and even had a great day?
- 1:14Do you want to explain to me how your week has been?
- 1:16Has it been any better? Well, I know last last podcast I
- 1:21was complaining that two days into my half term it was hell on
- 1:25earth, but actually it's been very lovely.
- 1:27Oh, good. Yeah, I found my feet without
- 1:31Bradley and I just got into it. We did loads of crafts, lots of
- 1:34play dates, but specifically ones with like, parents that are
- 1:37my friends, so I could just like, chat shit while they
- 1:40played. And it felt like a break, even
- 1:42though I was mumming. Yeah.
- 1:44And also me and my work bestie. I mean, I feel like I'm now
- 1:47going to be talking about this every single podcast.
- 1:49So really sorry that I was going to say I'm sorry that I think
- 1:53I'm Harry Judd, but me and my work bestie have signed up to do
- 1:57a half marathon. Oh my goodness.
- 2:00I know, but I'll be you than. I just put it that way.
- 2:02Literally I don't know what I'm getting myself into because I
- 2:05can barely run 5K and a half marathon is 21 so.
- 2:09You can. Do it, of course, till
- 2:10September. So it's fine.
- 2:12You're going to hear about it non-stop, I promise you, whether
- 2:15you like it or not. Yeah, but I will.
- 2:18What I will say is being back at work again has been really hard
- 2:21after the half term. 10 days was like almost a day.
- 2:25Yeah, he is. He was back.
- 2:28Yeah, I was back yesterday. Yesterday and today.
- 2:30Give me two days. OK.
- 2:31Two. Yeah.
- 2:32No, I think obviously I'm new to this teacher Malak, but it's
- 2:38it's, it's the length of the time off I'm struggling with.
- 2:44Not that I'm struggling being off that long.
- 2:46I know it's a luxury, but like my old job, if I had two days
- 2:49off, I wouldn't mind coming back to work.
- 2:52But because I'm off for so long, I like, it's like my body
- 2:55relaxes and it turns into my new norm and then I'm like.
- 2:57You wait, wait till the holidays, the six week holidays
- 3:00hit and then you've got, I don't know, in September, but.
- 3:03Although I think I'll be gagging to go back to school and get
- 3:05away from my kids by that. Well, true, there's Silver
- 3:07Linings with everything, I suppose.
- 3:09Yeah, yeah. So how's your week then?
- 3:12Yeah, not bad. Thank you.
- 3:13I had a really nice weekend actually.
- 3:15I had a market on Saturday which went amazing.
- 3:18I was so pleased with how well it went and met some really nice
- 3:21returning customers again, which was lovely.
- 3:22It's always nice when people come back to me.
- 3:25And then on Sunday I gave my husband a break because he had
- 3:27Molly all day on Saturday. So I was like, right, I'll take
- 3:30her out on Sunday and you can have a bit of a day to yourself.
- 3:32So I took her down to the beach with my friend and we had a
- 3:34little beach breakfast and a little walk with Molly and the
- 3:37dog. So it was so nice.
- 3:39And it's really tired both of them out and me not going to
- 3:42lie, I was so tired in the afternoon I had a nap.
- 3:45So that was lovely. And then, yeah, I've just been
- 3:48at home the last couple of days with Molly before I go back to
- 3:50school tomorrow. So there's been lots of play
- 3:52DoH, lots of puzzles, lots of books.
- 3:54And I'm not going to lie, if I hear old McDonald in my head one
- 3:57more time, I'm going to scream. I'm going to like, sing it down
- 4:01the microphone during this podcast recording.
- 4:04No, please don't. I will actually quit my job
- 4:09right now. We're all caught up.
- 4:11Shall we get straight into it? Let's Welcome to Galaxy Crashes
- 4:15podcast, the wonderful Hannah Dorman.
- 4:18Hello, Hannah. Hello.
- 4:21Hello, how are you? I'm very well, thank you.
- 4:24How are you? We are good.
- 4:27We're so happy to have you on the podcast.
- 4:30It's so exciting. We've been looking forward to it
- 4:32for quite a long time, actually. It's been, it's been a while,
- 4:34hasn't it, since we sent our first message.
- 4:36But we finally got you, yes? I'm here.
- 4:39I'm here. No, it's so no.
- 4:41It's so exciting. Thank you for having me.
- 4:43You're more than welcome, Sham. Sorry, I was putting on lip
- 4:50balm. I was putting on lip balm.
- 4:51Sorry. Hannah, do you see what I mean
- 4:54by sometimes there's these moments where I'm like, Shannon,
- 4:56are you with me or? I'm sorry babe, I thought I had
- 5:00a minute longer. I was putting on a lip balm.
- 5:02Sorry, not long enough. So for anyone listening who
- 5:08might not know who you are, could you tell us a little bit
- 5:10about yourself? Yeah, of course.
- 5:13So I am a singer, a songwriter, a content creator, and yeah,
- 5:19I've been, yeah, singing everything as long as I can
- 5:23remember. Oh.
- 5:24I love that you're like kids. We've got like memories of you
- 5:26and you're like a little girl and you were like singing along
- 5:29and playing guitar and. Yeah, so I, it's like really
- 5:33cliche, but it is, has been all I've wanted to do is be a pop
- 5:36star since I was like 3 years old.
- 5:38I oh, I love that. Yeah.
- 5:40I've got videos of me like singing.
- 5:43And I mean, I wasn't always like the best vocally.
- 5:46Like it's been something that I've had to really work on.
- 5:49I've had vocal coaching and I studied music and, but like the
- 5:52dream was always there and then we just had to work on our
- 5:54craft. But that's what I just do yes,
- 5:58exactly. You got to you got to put the
- 6:00put the hard work in and I started playing guitar when I
- 6:02was 9. I love it.
- 6:06So I kind of like from that age I was like, right, this is it.
- 6:09The the hard work starts now from.
- 6:11What I've seen like in your videos, I know I've watched
- 6:14quite a lot of your videos over the last few weeks.
- 6:16I've got a little bit of thank you.
- 6:17Any videos of you singing? I was like, right, I've got to
- 6:20watch every single one. And I love the ones where you're
- 6:22like obviously doing like little gigs or something and you're
- 6:24playing your guitar and I'm always like watching you play
- 6:27guitar and you're really quite good considering because me and
- 6:29Shannon both play guitar. Shannon is definitely better
- 6:32than me. I play to sing.
- 6:34I don't like play. I just play so that I can sing
- 6:37with it. So it's actually really nice
- 6:39seeing like a female musician, like playing guitar and writing
- 6:43her own songs and singing and. Doing their thing.
- 6:46Yeah, doing your thing, I'll. Be like that.
- 6:50I'm the same. I'm, I always just learn because
- 6:53I did have guitar lessons to kind of learn like, you know,
- 6:57the, the scales and all those kind of thing.
- 6:59And I was like, I don't really want to do.
- 7:01I just, I just want to learn the basic chords so that I can write
- 7:04songs and I can learn the songs I want to do.
- 7:07So when people comment and say like, oh, you're really good at
- 7:09guitar. And I'm like, am I?
- 7:10I don't think, I don't think about it.
- 7:11But then I'm like, oh, I guess, I guess I guess I'm all right.
- 7:15But I don't, I don't think about it because I kind of just always
- 7:17thought of it as a tool to enable me to do what I want to
- 7:20do with like performing. But yeah, yeah.
- 7:22Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's definitely the same
- 7:23mindset I had. Yeah.
- 7:26That's awesome, though. Super So.
- 7:27And we obviously know that you are a very, very big McFly fan.
- 7:31And actually when Shannon first said, because we've been looking
- 7:34for a few people, like for guests, and Shannon was like, Oh
- 7:37my God, we should ask Hannah. And she sent me your page and
- 7:40she explained to me about, like your YouTube background and how,
- 7:43like, you used to do a lot of videos about McFly and things
- 7:46like that. And I was like, oh, she sounds
- 7:47perfect. So how long have you actually
- 7:50been listening? I mean, listening to McFly?
- 7:52Is it sort of right from the beginning when you were young
- 7:54when they first came out, or did you get into them a little bit
- 7:56later on? I'm a day one McFly girly pot
- 8:01love that. From the start, yes, 11.
- 8:06Years old, I got the CD and I was, I was locked in, yeah.
- 8:10Yes, you did. I love.
- 8:12That this is my thing. Amazing.
- 8:14So good. Did you ever like see them live
- 8:17when you were really young? Because me and Shannon, we
- 8:19didn't know, but we were actually both at the same
- 8:22concert. And it was a busted concert.
- 8:24But McFly. But McFly supported.
- 8:27And we were both 11 years old when this happened.
- 8:29It was like powder and pasta. Yeah.
- 8:32So we didn't even know we were at the same concert.
- 8:34Did you ever see them when you were younger?
- 8:36No. So I didn't see them until I was
- 8:3915, so I just turned. The first time I saw them was, I
- 8:42know, a bit of a late bloomer. So the first time I saw them was
- 8:47on the radioactive tour. What a tour though.
- 8:52It was so good. It was so good.
- 8:53So I'd literally just turned 15. I got tickets for my birthday.
- 8:57And then, yeah, that was, that was the gig that I, I was kind
- 9:02of at the time, like I was thinking, oh, I want to start
- 9:04performing and I want to start, you know, kind of doing little
- 9:07open mics and stuff. I didn't really have like
- 9:10anything to like push me to do it.
- 9:11And then I saw them play at Wembley at the end of November
- 9:16and I, I just, something clicked in my, in my head and I was
- 9:20like, I'm going to play on that stage one day.
- 9:22And it was like that moment. That moment was like what
- 9:26spurred me on to perform. So from then, from the January,
- 9:29from then on, I started gigging and like, I haven't stopped
- 9:31since. So I actually have them to thank
- 9:34for my career. Your entire career.
- 9:37That's just so. That's actually so lovely.
- 9:39Isn't that such a lovely thing to hit?
- 9:41Because actually, I think McFly, I know for a fact, Shannon,
- 9:44you've said to me before that they were the reason you started
- 9:46playing guitar. Oh yeah, 100%.
- 9:50Yeah, it's so nice that that's like a common thing for a lot of
- 9:53musicians and people that, you know, do that sort of thing,
- 9:56that they've inspired that in so many people.
- 9:58I absolutely love that. Yeah, it's just so.
- 10:00And. When you see them live,
- 10:01absolutely incredible. Yeah, exactly What?
- 10:03That's what I was just. I was just about to say, yeah.
- 10:06Like when you see them live, it's so hard to explain their
- 10:09shows to anybody who's not a McFly fan because I really don't
- 10:13feel like it's a gig. It is a show.
- 10:17Do you know what I? Mean it's so good.
- 10:19Yeah, I say it to my friends all the time.
- 10:21Like I always used to be like the one at school that was like
- 10:24the McFly fan and everyone was like always talked about them
- 10:28non-stop and I was like I'm going to see McFly this week.
- 10:31Oh and I'm going I'm queuing up for McFly.
- 10:33I took the day off school to queue up for McFly for like 12
- 10:36hours as a hardcore. And everyone was just like, just
- 10:40used to, you know, take the Mick of how obsessed I was with them.
- 10:43And I was always like, it's the best live show, like I have ever
- 10:46seen. And I've seen a lot.
- 10:48And like, my parents obviously would take me along.
- 10:50And they were like, yeah, they are incredible.
- 10:52Their stamina, their stage presence, like how engaged they
- 10:56are. Like, I mean, I could talk about
- 10:57it forever, but like, they are so good.
- 11:00And even, like, you know, I hadn't seen them for a while and
- 11:02then went to see them for the 21st birthday party.
- 11:05I was just like, boys, you. You still got it.
- 11:08Lost it. Yeah.
- 11:08You. Still got it after all this time
- 11:12their little hiatus. Yeah.
- 11:14I know that broke my heart. Let's not talk about.
- 11:17No, I know. Did you by any chance go to the
- 11:19Busted versus McFly? I did.
- 11:21I did, yes. Which one did you go to Which
- 11:23date? Oh gosh, what date was it?
- 11:26It was you went to the O2. The O2.
- 11:29OK, so you did. But the first, like, it was like
- 11:33the third show in the tour, I think, really.
- 11:34So you, Shannon, you went at the end, didn't you?
- 11:38Yeah, I went on Halloween. Yeah, right at the end.
- 11:41Yeah, yeah. Were you were you hardcore
- 11:44standing or were you old lady seated like Shannon was?
- 11:48I was, well, I was kind of, I was old lady seating, but behind
- 11:53the standing. So I kind of had, like, the best
- 11:54of both worlds, yeah. Oh amazing, that was like when
- 11:57we went to the errors talk. Yeah, yeah, we were sort of
- 12:00midsection, weren't we were for Taylor Swift.
- 12:02Oh, so good. Shannon ended up at the very
- 12:04back of the O2 for McFly, which is honestly, if I stood up and
- 12:08she's ever been seated. It's the only time Hannah, that
- 12:13she's not for a very long time being with me at a McFly gig.
- 12:17Yeah, obviously we we met me and Shannon met at 18 at Arthur
- 12:21First University. We went to and and haven't left
- 12:24each other side since then and I actually decided to marry her
- 12:27cousin because I couldn't get enough she.
- 12:28Just was so obsessed with me. So now we literally.
- 12:33Will be family. Yeah, that's it.
- 12:35We are. Our children are related by
- 12:37blood, which is insane when you think about it.
- 12:40It's crazy. That's best being a little bit
- 12:42too hard, isn't it? Not going to.
- 12:43Lie. Yeah, yes, it's actually don't
- 12:46do deep it too much because it creeps me out.
- 12:49She loves it, but we never like seen McFly really.
- 12:51I mean, I think only once I've seen McFly without Shannon,
- 12:55apart from the first ever gig that I went to.
- 12:57I think I've only ever seen them without you once.
- 12:59And it was really strange to go on the Busted versus McFly tour
- 13:03without Sham because I went with with one of my other best
- 13:09friends in the whole world, Steve.
- 13:10He's amazing. He's been on the podcast.
- 13:11If you haven't listened to his episode, it's a Corker.
- 13:14And his friend Terry. And it was really lovely, but it
- 13:16wasn't the same because Shannon, sometimes me and Shannon like
- 13:20aren't even looking at the stage.
- 13:21We're just singing to each other and.
- 13:23Screaming and crying. Because we're also happy about
- 13:25being there. I love that.
- 13:28Did you find at the Busted versus McFly?
- 13:30Like you could tell. So unless obviously someone's a
- 13:33hybrid and they love them both, but you could just tell who was
- 13:37a Busted fan and who was a McFly fan so blatantly.
- 13:40Obviously it was so funny and I was like, because I went with my
- 13:43mum and I was like Busted fan, Busted fan, Busted fan.
- 13:50There were people on my row. See, there were people on my
- 13:52seated row that would like stand up for McFly and sit down for
- 13:55Busted or stand up for Busted and sit down for McFly.
- 13:58And I'd be like, I'm there in the middle.
- 14:00Like, I mean, I'm shitting myself because I'm so high up.
- 14:03I'm held onto the seat and I'm stood up the whole time.
- 14:06Yeah, I love it. I was in, I was in the left
- 14:10front standing pit, so I was literally barrier.
- 14:12It was so good. It was amazing.
- 14:16But like I think for me, I wish I'd spent that little bit more
- 14:19and done the front standing because we did get a lot of
- 14:21interaction and they did come over loads.
- 14:23But I think if I'd have been in front standing when Danny came
- 14:27into the crowd, I would have probably combusted.
- 14:32Literally. The red scenes was something
- 14:35else. I was not prepared.
- 14:36So good. I know I was watching all the
- 14:38videos on TikTok like Oh my gosh.
- 14:40Insane. So good.
- 14:41But in terms of like what? Because I know you're not as big
- 14:45of a busted fan. You know them, you're familiar
- 14:47with them, but you're not like a McFly.
- 14:48You're a McFly die hard. You're not a busted die.
- 14:50Hard. You're a.
- 14:50McFly Guy Yeah, exactly. How did you feel about the show
- 14:54itself? Did you enjoy it?
- 14:55Did you think? What did you think of the versus
- 14:57that aspect of it? I I was like guys, mom McFly,
- 15:02come on, no, you know what, it was good.
- 15:06Like I know the busted hits like and I did love like what as soon
- 15:09as like why go to school before came out and stuff.
- 15:12And I like, loved. And I was like when I was
- 15:15younger, I was like a Charlie girl and a Danny girl and I was
- 15:20just like, Oh my God, teenagers, you know, melting over them.
- 15:26And then I just yeah, it's just the hits really.
- 15:29But to be honest with you, I do. I would listen to air Hostess
- 15:32like now. And I really love sleeping with
- 15:35the lights on. I think that's beautiful.
- 15:37I have a beautiful. Song Yeah, I.
- 15:38Love that. So I don't know, I heard those
- 15:40ones. I was like, oh, I really like
- 15:41this. But then it's really interesting
- 15:43when you don't know the songs and you see other people singing
- 15:46along and you're just like, oh, this is it's nice to see because
- 15:48you're like, that's their moment.
- 15:49And I really love that for them that they're getting that like
- 15:52nostalgic kind of thing. But yeah, it was it was good.
- 15:56I mean, the verses thing, yeah, I did.
- 16:00Like I wasn't sure if they were going to do something different
- 16:05originally. We talk about this all the time,
- 16:07yeah. A little bit disappointed with
- 16:09the verses aspect. The show itself was incredible,
- 16:11but we don't think it met. Yeah.
- 16:14But yeah, we don't think it met like the marketing for it.
- 16:16They marketed it as like a verses aspect and it just wasn't
- 16:20really, I don't know, didn't feel like that, if that makes
- 16:23sense. But I think we.
- 16:24Did speak about a bit more Mcbusted I think as well.
- 16:27I think they did 1. They did one song say that I was
- 16:30like, guys, let's do. And Charlie wasn't involved, so
- 16:33I was just like, oh, I. Don't know what was that, but
- 16:35they did what happened to your band and they did hate your
- 16:38guts, which was obviously Matt and Dougie, which was so good.
- 16:41But I would have loved. I am a such a Mcbusted die hard
- 16:44like I love it so much. Every single one.
- 16:51Yeah, so. We did too.
- 16:52Oh my God, really amazing. Yeah, we went to Cardiff and we
- 16:57won VIP tickets. We from the OMFG tins, Oh my
- 17:01God, we were in the little pit at the front and I will, I swear
- 17:06down. We've been to the errors tour,
- 17:07but I still feel like that like topped it, I'm not going to lie.
- 17:12Yeah. Unreal.
- 17:14Like I played Tom's guitar. I held Danny's hand.
- 17:17I had a conversation with James Bond.
- 17:19Like it was just mundane. He told me he was going to marry
- 17:22me. I'm still waiting for my
- 17:24engagement ring, but you know it's.
- 17:25Fine, yeah, you're like where is.
- 17:27That where we at? We've also seen you do like a
- 17:30lot of wedding singing. Do you ever get songs by either
- 17:33band requested or like do you sneak them into the set list?
- 17:36Do. You know what?
- 17:38Funnily enough I have not I've ever been asked until last year
- 17:44and someone asked me to do Love is Easy and I was like they were
- 17:49like can you do this as a? Place in my heart.
- 17:52Yeah, they said can you do it as the song when we're signing the
- 17:55register? And I was like, Oh my God, of
- 17:57course. Oh, lovely.
- 17:58So, yeah, so I've actually never gigged.
- 18:00I've never gigged them before because I just feel like it's
- 18:06kind of strange. I feel like I contradict myself
- 18:08when I say this, but I add songs into my cover set list that I
- 18:13like, the songs I like and I would like to listen to.
- 18:16But once I sing the song, I don't listen to it because I
- 18:19just feel like it ruins it for me because I just hear it so
- 18:23much. I don't ever want to ruin McFly
- 18:25songs for me. Yeah, I mean, so.
- 18:28Absolutely. Oh, I love that.
- 18:29That's so good. Love is Easy was actually my
- 18:33what my bridesmaids walk down the aisle to at my wedding.
- 18:37So it holds a very special place in my heart.
- 18:40And our one of our friends, yeah, one of our friends from
- 18:43uni is a wedding singer. So she sang it for us and it was
- 18:45man, Shannon was a bridesmaid. So it was really lovely.
- 18:48It was a nice, nice memory that I will never, ever forget.
- 18:52So, so good. I think there's a lot of like
- 18:54emotional because we did this without this or that today on
- 18:57our Instagram stories. And we talked about last last
- 19:01week whether people prefer like the upbeat, funny, like story
- 19:05driven songs like 5 Colours and you know, that sort of thing, or
- 19:09whether they prefer like the soft, like ballads that are a
- 19:12bit more like emotional. And I had a real mix of answers.
- 19:17I think I went for emotional ballads on the pod, but then I
- 19:20changed my mind when I did stories.
- 19:21I don't know why, just because I love them both.
- 19:24What's the most obscure song that you've ever been requested
- 19:28to sing? And that doesn't have to be
- 19:30obviously like McFly related intern anything at all.
- 19:33Like what would be the most obscure thing you think you've
- 19:36been asked? Obscure anything?
- 19:39Like really random Oh I got asked to do which I didn't
- 19:45actually know it was first date by blink 102 but it was like
- 19:51the. Slow version.
- 19:53But it was like, it was like an acoustic version.
- 19:55Yeah. And I was like, oh, and I hadn't
- 19:58heard like the acoustic stripped back version.
- 20:01And I was like, Oh my God, it's really, it just like changes the
- 20:03song completely. And I love that.
- 20:05I love that about like acoustic versions of songs where you kind
- 20:07of think. And then when I was doing it in
- 20:09pubs, I was practising before because it was someone's first
- 20:12dance. So I was practising it in pubs
- 20:14beforehand. And when I was doing it, I could
- 20:16see like these guys who were like obviously like die hard
- 20:19fans, just like lip synching the words along as they walk past,
- 20:22trying to be like cool and nonchalant.
- 20:26Absolutely love that. That's amazing.
- 20:29It must be so fun being a wedding singer.
- 20:30It's always something I I would have loved to have been a
- 20:32wedding singer, but my my life just doesn't work out that way.
- 20:35Do you love it? Yeah, I think I've, I mean, pubs
- 20:39and stuff are the are the main, like main gig for me really.
- 20:44It's the one that I do the most. But I'm doing more, more and
- 20:46more weddings and I just find like, obviously I, you know, I,
- 20:49I enjoy doing the pubs, but they, it's the weddings are so
- 20:54joyful and everyone is so happy. And it's just you're
- 20:58contributing something to someone's day and like you're
- 21:01going to be a part of that forever.
- 21:02And I think it's such an honour that people want you to be a
- 21:04part of it. Whereas if I'm in a pub, I'm
- 21:07like, oh, Macy boy's having a drink and someone's having an
- 21:09argument over there and they don't really care.
- 21:11Do you know what I mean? So I'm kind of like, yeah, it's
- 21:13way more fulfilling doing the doing the weddings.
- 21:16I. Love and are you living in
- 21:17London at the moment, Hannah? I'm kind of like South of
- 21:23London, Yeah. Oh.
- 21:24Nice. Because I saw I was watching
- 21:26your, watching your reels and things earlier when I saw that
- 21:28you were in London yesterday and I was like, oh, I wonder if she
- 21:30lives in London. Because we are, I grew up in,
- 21:34oh, I grew up in like Richmond, Kingston area.
- 21:38So yeah. And.
- 21:39How amazing. Yeah, but I was in.
- 21:40I was in, sorry, I shouldn't say I was in town for an event
- 21:44yesterday, so yeah. Super, that sounds fun.
- 21:47It must be nice to be close to London because we I think it
- 21:50would take me like 7 hours to get there in the car.
- 21:53My goodness, whereabouts are you?
- 21:55So I'm Shannon's going to laugh. I'm in the toe of the country.
- 21:59I love it when people ask me I'm in the toe.
- 22:02I'm in course. She loves saying that line.
- 22:04I really do. It's my favourite line in the
- 22:05whole world. People forget about us down here
- 22:07and we're just so far away from everything.
- 22:09We I'm literally like the second to last stop on the train.
- 22:12That's how far down I am. You cannot go any further.
- 22:16My my grandparents lived in Padstow, so I spent a lot of my
- 22:20childhood in Padstow. Cute.
- 22:22That's still about an ounce. It's about an hour away from me.
- 22:24That's how far down I am. I was.
- 22:26Gonna say that was really far. I remember that being.
- 22:28A long, yeah, yeah. So it's a long old way, but it's
- 22:31a nice place to be at least. Now, I think I probably know the
- 22:37answer to this, but it's the question we ask every guest.
- 22:40Are you Team McFly or Team Busted?
- 22:44And you're not allowed to sit on the fence, by the way.
- 22:45Not that you will, but just putting that on there.
- 22:48No fence. Don't worry, there's no fence
- 22:50here I am. Team McFly all the way.
- 22:54Nice, I love and we are also Team McFly.
- 22:57Yeah, we are. And I think The thing is as well
- 22:59as I think when you people think because we do this podcast and
- 23:02obviously we are a Busted and McFly podcast, people seem to
- 23:04think that we are very much like on the fence in between the two.
- 23:08And it's not that we don't love Busted.
- 23:10We genuinely do. Like, I mean, I I know every
- 23:14single song they sang a busted versus McFly.
- 23:16I'm more than happy to say I wouldn't.
- 23:18I would have been one of the ones that you were like, oh, is
- 23:20she team Busted or is she team? You wouldn't have been able to
- 23:23tell. She's a hybrid.
- 23:24Yeah, and I think I probably, I probably grew up more a Busted
- 23:29fan than I did a McFly fan. But I think when Busted stopped
- 23:32and obviously they broke up, I found it really difficult to
- 23:35continue listening to music that I'd listened to over and over
- 23:38and over again. And then I found McFly and then
- 23:40obviously they got bigger and bigger and that's where it came
- 23:42from. But I think a lot of people find
- 23:44it difficult. But Shannon is very much the
- 23:46opposite, aren't you? Shannon?
- 23:47You're very much a a heavy McFly fan from Day Dot.
- 23:51Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm like McFly in my blood.
- 23:54Like have a McFly tattoo, kind of love McFly.
- 23:58However, what I will say is I love them very differently.
- 24:02For me, I think Busted are a very like nostalgic band for me.
- 24:08They remind me of being kid and like even their shit songs are
- 24:12good because I loved them when I was a kid.
- 24:16Like the kind of music that you listen to now and you're like,
- 24:18oh, that's that hasn't aged very well.
- 24:20That's not very good song. Why did I listen to it so much
- 24:22when I was young? We've.
- 24:23Discovered those already. Yeah, that's my boss did.
- 24:27But McFly are like my band. They're my nostalgic band.
- 24:30McFly like my band do you know what I mean?
- 24:32They've travelled with me. So Hannah's your talent.
- 24:37Oh no, it says. It says.
- 24:39The heart never lies. Oh.
- 24:42Yeah, the easiest tattoo, wasn't it really?
- 24:46Because it it's never going to that.
- 24:48That song is never going to get old.
- 24:50Yeah, And then old people approach me and they're like,
- 24:53oh, what does it say? And I'm like, it's really
- 24:55meaningful. And then like people my age, I'm
- 24:57like, it's a McFly song. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:01So meaningful. It is meaningful.
- 25:04It is meaningful. What I was going to ask Hannah
- 25:07was why McFly. Tell us what you love about
- 25:10them. Tell us your favourite members.
- 25:11Tell us, you know, sort of how your love for them has grown
- 25:14over the years of listening to them.
- 25:17Oh, it's really, yeah. It's really interesting
- 25:20actually, because I don't know what initially drew me to them
- 25:24when I was 11. Probably just, you know, these
- 25:27boys. Her wife was 11.
- 25:28I was like, oh, my God, They're cases.
- 25:31Yeah. Their face, Denny's face in
- 25:33particular. When I was 11, I was like, I'm
- 25:35gonna marry this man. Yeah.
- 25:39Yeah, I saw this. I saw this thing on Instagram
- 25:43that was like, thank you, Thank you for like remaining my type
- 25:47over the years. And it was like them when
- 25:48they're like younger, like you are my type when I was 11 and
- 25:51you're my type. I've seen this going around.
- 25:54I've seen this little trend going around how like you've
- 25:57just all grown with them and they've always been like like 5
- 26:00or 6 years older than us. So like, you know, that sort of
- 26:03like older man kind of thing. And they're not really older,
- 26:06but they are old enough that we know that, you know, it's nice
- 26:09to have. Oh, yeah, I'm, I'm totally there
- 26:11with you on that, 100 percent, 100%.
- 26:15But yeah, I don't know. I think it's just like I, I
- 26:18remember distinctly, like I went to, we went to see my aunt in
- 26:23Australia. She lived in Sydney.
- 26:25And I remember that's when I really got into the Wonderland
- 26:30album. And I just, there's something
- 26:32about the Ballad of Paul K that when I listened to it, Shannon,
- 26:35I'm I am back. That's my train station.
- 26:38I love it. So much I'm back in the train
- 26:40station in Australia, don't on that platform and I just don't
- 26:44know what it is. And I think like I just yeah, I
- 26:47don't. I just over the years I think I
- 26:49just got more and more obsessed and that just grew on me.
- 26:53And then I mean Radioactive is just my favourite album.
- 26:56Just so good, so good. I think how they have also
- 27:00matured with their sound and like the stuff that comes out.
- 27:03It's not, you know, they do obviously have the songs that
- 27:06people would be like, oh, they're just choosing McFly
- 27:08songs. But when you deep dive on the
- 27:11albums, you're like, they're such a talented songwriters.
- 27:13They're such talented vocalists, like musicians.
- 27:15I can. And they're all really good
- 27:16friends and they're all really nice.
- 27:18And you're just like, it's just perfect.
- 27:19I don't know, I can't understand.
- 27:20Yeah. She's like, Oh my God.
- 27:21Yeah. Everything about them, we
- 27:23completely agree. Yeah.
- 27:25And you're in the right place to be spreading that information.
- 27:28Yeah. And I.
- 27:29Feel like whenever they go on like a show or something, like
- 27:32with, well, Dougie and Danny on I'm a Celeb, I'm instantly like
- 27:36they're going to win because obviously, yeah, like, you know,
- 27:39this is. Like, they're just so likeable,
- 27:41yeah. And I just know that, like if
- 27:43they go in for competitions and stuff and they like do I'm just
- 27:45like they the public then see and they get it.
- 27:48Then I'm like, I can. I'm just sitting there like
- 27:50smug, like I've been like this for years, but I've done.
- 27:54This for 20 years. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:57Yeah, you're going to gatekeepers.
- 27:59Yeah, exactly. Have you got a favourite member
- 28:03then? Hannah?
- 28:03I know you mentioned that Danny, you like a bit Danny Jones, but
- 28:06is he your favourite member would you say, or have you got
- 28:08someone 100? Percent Danny Girl through and
- 28:09through always. Yeah, everybody, he we posted
- 28:13one of my videos. You reposted one of my videos on
- 28:16Twitter. Yeah, I was very excited.
- 28:18By that. So Shannon is also very much a
- 28:21Danny Jones girl, aren't you, Shannon?
- 28:23I am, I am love the man. And it's not even like, it's not
- 28:27even like, oh, you're really fit kind of love.
- 28:29It's like I respect you and I think we would be really good
- 28:33friends. Do you know what I mean?
- 28:35It helps. It also helps that you're very.
- 28:36It helps that you're very attractive.
- 28:39I thought you were going to say I think we're going to be really
- 28:40good together. And I was like going for a.
- 28:43Start too. That too.
- 28:47Yeah, she is definitely on the brain a lot, isn't it?
- 28:52I love that I am definitely a Tom Fletcher girl.
- 28:55I've been a Tom Fletcher girl since day one when he was like a
- 28:59little bit like Babyface and his like really straight, long, flat
- 29:03blonde hair like, oh, I love, I just love him.
- 29:05And you know what? I'm like a complete Fletcher
- 29:08fanatic. Like I could.
- 29:10I want them to adopt me. Like I would live in the house
- 29:12with their kids and their dog and G and Carrie and I would
- 29:16just get honestly, I'm there for it.
- 29:18But just let me come and live with you because we'd get on so
- 29:21well. Yeah.
- 29:22I. Think.
- 29:23They're taking adoptions. Your own thing, you know You
- 29:26never. Know Tommy's also like sure.
- 29:28There's room. We've never had like a repost or
- 29:31anything like that, but Tom watches our stories a lot and
- 29:35every time I see his name I have like a little flutter in my
- 29:38heart or I'm just like, hey. Yeah, be my friend.
- 29:43He also he we've hosted one of my music challenges on
- 29:46Instagram. So maybe combined, combined we
- 29:50could get a, we could get a. Come on, Tom.
- 29:52Come on, Tom. Yeah.
- 29:54Just get a follow somehow What? We want oh, I love it so much.
- 29:58It's so good. What is your earliest memory of
- 30:02McFly? Is it because I know you said
- 30:04you were listening when you were 11?
- 30:05Is that like the earliest memory?
- 30:07Can you remember buying the CD or hearing them on the radio or?
- 30:11You know, I don't remember buying the CD but I seem to
- 30:16remember the five colours in her hair.
- 30:17The single was the first CD that I bought and I don't know why
- 30:21that's in my memory. But everything I had like S Club
- 30:257 had hearsay, had all the classics and but they were
- 30:28bought for me. Yeah, sorry, those songs, pure
- 30:33nostalgia in my head right now. This is why I This is why I
- 30:39started watching so many of your videos because you were posting
- 30:42so many of those like blind reaction videos and all the and
- 30:46all the songs that were coming up.
- 30:47I was just like, these are just so good.
- 30:50Just made me. I love it.
- 30:51I love it. I love like going through them
- 30:53being like not heard this song in years.
- 30:55I'm like, Oh my God, I love these songs.
- 30:57But yeah, I think, yeah, buying that CD must have been like
- 31:00pocket money or something. I don't know.
- 31:01I don't know why or what or how, but I just feel like that that's
- 31:04my memory, that that CD is the yeah.
- 31:07I love that one. Do you have a memory of Busted?
- 31:09I know we're a McFly girly, but do you have any early memories
- 31:12of Busted? Yeah, what I go to school for
- 31:15and then seeing Charlie and being like, wow.
- 31:19Nice eyebrows. Yeah, 11 year old man is like,
- 31:22yeah, that's my man. I was on that.
- 31:27For a while, then I went off him and then I was like, oh, he went
- 31:30and like he went off on Fightstar and I was like, no.
- 31:34Why have you? Played them and I was like oh
- 31:36Nope, you're not coming from but busted.
- 31:38OK fine. And then went on and then when
- 31:40Danny and then when Danny and Charlie did their their little
- 31:45moment and Oh my. God, yeah, Oh my.
- 31:48God, I was just, I was like, because Not Alone is one of my
- 31:51favourite songs as well and I was just like, I couldn't
- 31:55believe it. Can you?
- 31:56Believe that that is on the first album, like not alone how
- 32:00good it is was on their first ever album Mad Yeah.
- 32:03We're nearly there as well, aren't we, Shannon?
- 32:05It's one of the next ones coming because we're I don't know
- 32:08whether you've looked through like our episodes, Hannah, but
- 32:10each week we work through the songs in the in the album order.
- 32:13So we've actually we're literally just coming to the end
- 32:16of both of the first albums, Busted first album and Mcfly's
- 32:20first album. So we're very excited for Not
- 32:22Alone and Broccoli which is coming up, which is one of my
- 32:24favourites as also as if and. Broccoli and not alone were
- 32:28written at the same time. Same time.
- 32:30I know it's just. A change, isn't it?
- 32:32The difference in the lyrics, I love it, I love it.
- 32:37It's time for this or that. So Hannah, this is something we
- 32:41do on the podcast every single week, but we're going to give it
- 32:43a little twist today just for you.
- 32:46Yeah. So normally we do this.
- 32:48We do like one this or that to each other.
- 32:50Or if there's a guest, we do a few to them, they do one to us.
- 32:53But this week, we're giving you 12.
- 33:00So we're going to give you are we're going to give you 3
- 33:02busted, 3 McFly, 3 Muck busted, and then three naughties bangers
- 33:06because we know you love the old schools.
- 33:08Are you up for it? Yeah.
- 33:09Yes. OK, here we go.
- 33:13Nervous, nervous. My palm is flashing.
- 33:15It's fine. It's fine.
- 33:16It's all good, you'll be fine. So year 3000 or Thunderbirds are
- 33:21go starting with busted. Year 3000.
- 33:25Good. Nice, OK sleeping with the light
- 33:28on or 3:00 AM. Sleeping with the light on.
- 33:34OK, good. Joyce, love that Hostess or
- 33:37what? I go to school for Hostess, yes.
- 33:42Nice. OK, McFly ready.
- 33:46This one. This one's the one that I added.
- 33:49These are two of my favourite ones, so I mean, it's easy to
- 33:52get this one wrong. No pressure.
- 33:53So hard. Lies or silence is a scary
- 33:58sound. Lies, lies.
- 34:02I agree. Yeah, OK.
- 34:04I love that. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:05Yeah, next radio actor. Next radio actor, Obviously.
- 34:07Exactly. Love is easy.
- 34:10Or Love is on the radio. Oh, oh, that's a tough one.
- 34:19Very ukulele heavy one. It very much is very.
- 34:22Acoustic, I'm going to go to Love is Easy.
- 34:25I'm going to go to Love is Easy. OK.
- 34:27Yeah, yeah. Nice.
- 34:29I think that's a good choice. Saturday night or Friday night?
- 34:3500, It's harder than people think, choosing between the two.
- 34:46It's always really good at like pairing them up, so they're
- 34:49really hard to choose between. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:52You're welcome. I'm going to go, I'm going to go
- 34:57Friday, OK, for Friday. Yeah, I think I've listened to
- 35:02that one more like recent and I've been like, Oh my God, this
- 35:04is it's good because. It reminds you, doesn't it, when
- 35:07you haven't heard it for ages and then you're like, this is
- 35:09such a bagger. That's what happened with me,
- 35:11and that's the truth. I hadn't listened to it for so
- 35:14long and it came on in the car and I was like that.
- 35:16Whole album, yeah, that's. Yeah, like where did it go in my
- 35:19brain? Every time I listen to it I'm
- 35:20like, whoa, this is brilliant. Amazing.
- 35:23I feel like. Can you talk about?
- 35:24That album, afterwards, after we've done a full section, can
- 35:26we just have a little? Absolutely.
- 35:29We can always up for that. The next one is that we're on
- 35:33Mcbusted vibes now, so we're going to What Happened to Your
- 35:36Band or I Hate Your Guts? Both performed at Busted versus
- 35:40McFly. Oh do you know what my knowledge
- 35:44on the Mcbusted ones are? Not as good, but I think what
- 35:49happened to your band? Yeah, I like both of them, but I
- 35:52think I definitely. Agree with that one.
- 35:55OK, so sensitive guy. Or before you knew me.
- 35:59But also, if you need us to sing them, we're more than happy to.
- 36:01I'm joking. Oh yeah.
- 36:04If you can't remember. How before you knew me when?
- 36:07I liked you better before you knew me.
- 36:10Oh, so good. We what was what does he, what
- 36:13does he say? They're like comparing things
- 36:17that are really bad. Yeah.
- 36:20We were brand. We were brand and now we're
- 36:24looking more like, is it Spidey Spencer and Heidi is really
- 36:28weird American, that really weird American couple.
- 36:30Oh my God, such a good song. If you can't remember it, we
- 36:33won't. We won't mind.
- 36:34We can scratch it and move on to the next one.
- 36:36Yeah, I think we are sorry. I think we move on to that one.
- 36:39We move. On OK, what about air guitar or
- 36:43Get Over It? Do you know those?
- 36:45Oh, yeah, get up, get up, get up.
- 36:48Oh yeah, I love them. Both.
- 36:53They're so good. Gosh, I really love them both.
- 36:58You can't have them both, Hannah.
- 36:59That's not how. I know I'm being greedy.
- 37:02Do you know I've listened to air guitar more, but I think I like,
- 37:08I think I like get up. Is it cool?
- 37:10Just get up. Get up.
- 37:11Get. It's good.
- 37:12Get. Over it, Get over it, get over
- 37:13it, get over it. I didn't know the name of it,
- 37:16but I like the memory of that. One because I really like it
- 37:18I'm. Going to go for that one.
- 37:20OK, we'll go forget over it, no worries.
- 37:22And now naughties. Naughties OK Hey y'all brilliant
- 37:27song or Mr Brightside? Oh hey y'all first song I
- 37:31learned on guitar. Oh, my God.
- 37:33Really. Oh, my God.
- 37:35Can we please have a video of that?
- 37:36Where is the video? Yeah, I need to see this.
- 37:38I'll have. To try, Fine.
- 37:39Yeah, yeah, please do it. It was the first because I
- 37:42remember how it was really well. It was complicated because it
- 37:45was. I had a bar of two and then it
- 37:46went back to the last four and I was like, oh.
- 37:48Yeah, yes, sorry, I do not do bar chords.
- 37:51We are AG and F and that's it when it goes to begin to offer
- 37:55me a bit of E minor every now and again.
- 37:59OK next one Toxic or hollaback girl.
- 38:04Oh. Dismash it.
- 38:10Dismash it. Gwen Stefani.
- 38:13They're both so good. Is bananas BANAN?
- 38:18A Oh, they're both so good, but I'm going to have to go toxic
- 38:21because I do that in my set at the moment.
- 38:22Bit of Britney. Version.
- 38:24I love it, yeah. Amazing choice, last one.
- 38:27OK, and this this last one is actually very close to my heart.
- 38:31Misery business or skate a boy? How could you ever channel?
- 38:36How have you put these two together?
- 38:38This is literally. Illegal.
- 38:40You can't. You can't ask anybody to choose
- 38:42between those two songs. Paramore or these are.
- 38:45Like two different areas of my life.
- 38:48So like we I was AI was a an Avril girl loves Avril so much.
- 38:54And then we sang misery business at ACM and I remember like being
- 38:58like, I Can't Sing this. It's so hard.
- 39:02It's our go to karaoke song and we murder it every single time
- 39:05but it's so hard. Henry Williams would be ashamed.
- 39:09But yeah, I'll go. I'll go for Avril Mini, a skater
- 39:13boy. That's good.
- 39:15That's. A good answer.
- 39:16It is. I don't think I'd have been able
- 39:18to choose between those. I really don't.
- 39:20I don't. I can't.
- 39:22I couldn't do it. You're welcome.
- 39:27You're a horrible person, Shannon, a very horrible person.
- 39:31Good choices. Well done.
- 39:33You made it through your first this or that.
- 39:35So well done Hannah. You got it.
- 39:36Great choices. So if you've not listened to our
- 39:41podcast before this point, we usually talk about a Busted or a
- 39:44McFly track in album order. However, this week we thought
- 39:48we'd spice it up a little bit. Yeah, so this week we thought
- 39:51we'd make a song of the week. All about you, Hannah, pardon
- 39:54the pun. All about.
- 39:55You. So we thought we'd give you the
- 39:58space to talk about your music, your songwriting process and how
- 40:02you get from A to, well, Eurovision, it seems, because we
- 40:05all know what you've been up to over the last couple of.
- 40:07Years, right? So tell us all about it.
- 40:11Gosh. Oh yeah.
- 40:14Where? Where should I start?
- 40:15Eurovision. Eurovision was, yeah, crazy.
- 40:18So I, as well as writing songs for myself, I write songs at
- 40:23songwriting camps for the aim of getting to Eurovision.
- 40:26So whether that's me as an artist, whether that's other
- 40:31artists, you know, the goal is the same.
- 40:33We're trying to get to Eurovision.
- 40:34And I was so lucky that one of my songs got chosen to
- 40:38participate in Malta's Eurovision Song Contest, which
- 40:42there were thousands of thousands applied.
- 40:44And then one of we were one of eighteen.
- 40:47Yeah, it was unbelievable. And I was very kindly asked by
- 40:52the artist Chess Galia if if I would like to perform backing
- 40:55vocals as well on stage. And I was like, I was like,
- 41:00yeah, of course, of course, but. We've been watching all the
- 41:05Shadi Da videos and the little dance moves.
- 41:08I know any of them. I'm not very good at it, but we
- 41:10love them, absolutely love them. And Chess was actually on BBC
- 41:14Radio Cornwall the other day with one of my old friends.
- 41:17Yeah, it was so cool. I was listening to you and I was
- 41:19like, oh, this is weird. I messaged him and I was like,
- 41:21that's so funny. I said the lady that wrote this
- 41:23song is coming on our podcast in a couple of weeks ago.
- 41:25So it was a nice Little Mix. So talk us through the process
- 41:29of sort of getting to your vision and what the whole, like
- 41:32being on stage was like. Was it just insane?
- 41:36Yeah, it was so cool. So we, I mean, the process was,
- 41:39was quite simple. Chess submitted the song and
- 41:43just, we just held, you know, fingers crossed and waited.
- 41:47And then we found out. And then as soon as we found
- 41:49out, we found out on the 1st of December and the show was on the
- 41:5315th of January. So we didn't have long, we had
- 41:54like 6 weeks obviously with Christmas in between.
- 41:57Oh my gosh, that's crazy. It was really tough.
- 41:59So with Chess and I being, you know, kind of like London-based
- 42:02then everyone else over in Malta, we had to figure out
- 42:05everything, costumes, choreography, staging, graphics,
- 42:09everything we did through like Zoom calls, WhatsApp and
- 42:13everything. And it wasn't until we actually
- 42:14got together when we first flew out there that we finally met
- 42:18everyone. We had our first rehearsals and
- 42:20it was incredible. Like I'd never experienced.
- 42:22I mean, I, as we were talking about before we started
- 42:24recording, like I've done dance shows in the past and, and I've
- 42:29kind of done a lot of like the like experienced a theatre show
- 42:32and done like festivals and stuff with my own music and, and
- 42:35shows, but I've done nothing on that scale and I've not done TV
- 42:37before. It's a whole different ball
- 42:39game. And it's kind of like that whole
- 42:43era of like I've done competitions in the past, but
- 42:46not for a long time. Like you get one song at least
- 42:48with a gig, you've got like a couple to warm up too and stuff,
- 42:51but it's like one shot and that's it.
- 42:53And it's the competition as well.
- 42:56Yeah, it's like the competition. Definitely.
- 42:59So it was really cool and we were obviously we were gutted
- 43:01that we didn't, we didn't get through.
- 43:02But we're, you know, thinking next year, we're ready to also.
- 43:07Like to, like you said, to be chosen out of all of those
- 43:10people, that's a massive thing. Like whether you win or not,
- 43:13that's still a huge accomplishment.
- 43:15Like absolutely insane. So good.
- 43:18Yeah, definitely. Definitely.
- 43:20Is it something you've had like as a goal your entire life or is
- 43:23it just something that like appeared and was like an offer
- 43:26you couldn't refuse kind of situation?
- 43:28Do you know what I mean? No.
- 43:29I do. You know what, it wasn't until
- 43:31about about five years ago now really that I started to think
- 43:36about Eurovision. And I think what happened for
- 43:38me, the way that I kind of got into it was I was watching.
- 43:42And every time I feel like the UK, I've just felt like we don't
- 43:44really care. And I feel like we just kind of
- 43:46put in. It was a what?
- 43:48For a long time, we were just putting in, yeah, like gimmicks
- 43:50and we were just putting in stuff that we didn't seem like
- 43:52we really cared. And it was this ongoing thing
- 43:54like among Europe, like mainland Europe, where they were just
- 43:57like, Oh yeah, the UK, like whatever.
- 44:00And you know, we weren't particularly liked anyway, So I
- 44:03just thought we're not really helping ourselves.
- 44:04So let's try something and actually try and like have a go.
- 44:07So I got in touch with a guy called Greg Watts from a
- 44:11publishing company called DWB. And he was the one for a long
- 44:15time who selected the UK entry. So I got in touch with him and
- 44:18was like, I would love to do it. And I'd love to do like a good,
- 44:21a big show. And I would like to show that we
- 44:23care. And then funnily enough, that
- 44:25was Sam Ryder's year. So it was like obviously someone
- 44:29other people had like the same thought process and I've been
- 44:33working with them since really like at camps and we've tried to
- 44:36push me multiple years. I'm actually just releasing a
- 44:40song that we tried to we. Just saw we just saw this before
- 44:44we started so that we've we've noted this down to talk about.
- 44:47So don't you worry we will be moving on.
- 44:49I posted the video I was. So I was so nervous.
- 44:51I was just saying to my boyfriend, I was so nervous to
- 44:53post it. I was just, I'm just going to
- 44:54post it. Then I'm going to come on the
- 44:55podcast and not look at my phone.
- 44:56There you go. I haven't got to think about it
- 44:58for an hour. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:00It's insane, by the way, it's so good.
- 45:02It's so good. I was playing it Shannon,
- 45:04because we'd we'd already started the clean feed, so I was
- 45:07playing it over the microphone. I was like, Oh my God.
- 45:09Through my I was like. Oh, thank you.
- 45:12Yeah. We've worked so hard on it.
- 45:13I mean, it's, it's, it's just, it's one of these things where,
- 45:15you know, you try, you don't know what people are looking
- 45:17for. And obviously it's TV.
- 45:18There's more to think about than just unfortunately, there's more
- 45:21to think about than just a song. But we really tried hard with
- 45:24this one. And it does build beautifully.
- 45:26Like it sounds very like it's different to anything that I've
- 45:29ever, like, released, really. It's very like sombre and
- 45:33relaxed and then acoustic. And then like it really builds
- 45:35and builds and builds at the end.
- 45:36Like we obviously had this show in mind when we were writing it.
- 45:40Like, so we've got all the staging and like the fireworks
- 45:43and this and that. Yeah.
- 45:45So that's kind of what we envisage, like, with when
- 45:47writing the song. And you're kind of having to
- 45:49write it visually as well when you're writing for Eurovision.
- 45:53So. Yeah, it does progress, but it
- 45:55by the time this comes out, it will be out.
- 45:58So that's very exciting. Yeah, it's, it's, it's coming
- 46:00out in couple of days, isn't it? So like from when, Yeah, I saw
- 46:03it earlier, I was like, oh, this is so exciting and.
- 46:05It can't be on them. Feels like I'm suck a punch to
- 46:11find your sense to suck on me. I swear that you still follow me
- 46:16around like you're my shadow, that I go, you're in my head and
- 46:27it's like seeing a face in a crowd where you mow and that's
- 46:36why I can't go. Thinking in your own just to
- 46:40hear what you say. But it's so white noise.
- 46:53In regards to like your performing and recording and all
- 46:56of that sort of thing, do you prefer writing your own songs or
- 46:58do you prefer sort of doing covers and singing songs that
- 47:01other people know? A. 100% my own stuff.
- 47:05I feel like I, yeah, I live stream my gigs on TikTok just
- 47:10because I think if people want to see me and they can't, or if
- 47:13someone's, I don't know, on their own and they want a little
- 47:16bit of background music or a bit of company then like so.
- 47:18Funny, sometimes I sit and watch them when I'm having my dinner.
- 47:22Genuinely. Like, yeah.
- 47:23Oh, I love that. I just think like, you know, I'm
- 47:26there like 3 to 5 * a week. I'm in these parts and I think
- 47:29if someone can get some joy out of it and, and, you know, feel
- 47:32like they've got a little community, then then they can.
- 47:34I'm building like my little community on there, which is
- 47:36really sweet. And there was a time when I
- 47:40someone requested that I sing one of my own songs, to which I
- 47:43did. And then someone commented
- 47:44saying like your face just lights up when you sing your own
- 47:47songs like you. Can notice a difference.
- 47:49Yeah. And I was like, oh, I never.
- 47:50Noticed that compliment? That's so I didn't really notice
- 47:55that That would like, yeah, happen.
- 47:56But yeah, I love my own stuff. I'm just like, one day I'll get
- 48:00paid to sing my own songs. Well, we know how that feels
- 48:04being on a podcast and, you know, trying to get promoting
- 48:07and it's so difficult. There's so many artists all over
- 48:11the world or even even in just our country, people that do
- 48:14podcasting or do write their own songs.
- 48:16And it's just like a minefield. There's just so much.
- 48:18How do you know what the right channel is to go through?
- 48:20You know, I have every faith both had her that you'll you'll
- 48:24definitely get there. Because like I said, you know,
- 48:26we, we know that even just seeing that little snippet of
- 48:29the song that you posted earlier, I think I, I don't know
- 48:34what it, there was a real hook with the video you were talking
- 48:36about like that grieving in something.
- 48:38Weren't you in, in the video? And like the, the opening, like
- 48:42chords of the song. I was like, Oh, this sounds good
- 48:44already. And like I'd only heard like we
- 48:46only listened to like 20 seconds or something because we were
- 48:48literally allowed to start and it just came up as I stitched.
- 48:51It was like, oh, 13 minutes. Wow.
- 48:54Yeah. It's so good.
- 48:55That's a really good sign though, because I think when
- 48:57you're trying to write something, especially with like
- 48:59Eurovision in mind, you've got to catch people straight away
- 49:02and it's got to be on 1st, like first listen.
- 49:04Like you can't have an earworm because you know, a lot of the
- 49:07time watching the show and that they're seeing it for the first
- 49:09time. So yeah, I mean, obviously.
- 49:11No, we, we, we're very much looking forward to the next
- 49:14couple of days and it being released.
- 49:15Don't just put it that way. I'm.
- 49:16Hoping that it goes viral and then they're like, Oh no, next
- 49:19year we'll get hurt. That would be amazing.
- 49:21Well, we will most definitely be sharing it to our 255 years, but
- 49:26this goes out to over 7000 people.
- 49:28So, you know, we let's hope that some of them will go in and
- 49:32listen as well. This doesn't doesn't help my
- 49:37course for Eurovision, but I'm always like, I think McFly would
- 49:41be great. Oh my God, they really would be.
- 49:43I think that they would cut on such a good show.
- 49:45They'd be such a good song. You never see like big like well
- 49:49known artists like doing Eurovision though and I don't
- 49:52understand. That I think that's the point, I
- 49:54think. Is it because they're trying to?
- 49:55Lucy Jones did, didn't she? Oh yeah, she did, didn't she?
- 49:59Yeah. I remember now.
- 50:01Yeah, I think, well, it is actually quite good.
- 50:03Well, considering it's like, it's like it's such a big stage
- 50:07for music, like hundreds of millions of people watch it.
- 50:09It's insane how many people watch it.
- 50:11And considering that actually it's quite available for
- 50:14unsigned and more unknown people to get that break, which I think
- 50:17is really good actually. But yeah, I still, well, I mean,
- 50:21there's a lot of political voting involved, so I feel like
- 50:24even if we're Ed Sheeran and we probably still wouldn't.
- 50:26Even make any. Difference.
- 50:26Well, you can never. Know, but you never know.
- 50:29Some riders started as an influencer, didn't he?
- 50:31And now look at him. The world knows him.
- 50:33Oh my God, I remember watching his.
- 50:35I remember watching his Tik Toks and he'd be like Adele, if
- 50:39you're watching this duet with me and now look at him.
- 50:43So you never know. That could be you, McFly, if
- 50:45you're watching. Oh, Ratchie girl, I love it.
- 50:52Well, we've been on your Spotify.
- 50:54Yeah, a lot this week. We've been on Spotify.
- 50:56And I have to say, I absolutely love your voice.
- 50:58I think you're very talented and I think that your writing as
- 51:01well is it's it's not like your generic like pop songs.
- 51:06I think like you've got those like SAT.
- 51:09Can we bring up Sad Girl Christmas even though it's
- 51:11February? Because.
- 51:13Yeah, just bring it up because when we first like found your
- 51:16page and like we would cut like looking at your page a lot more
- 51:19over that sort of period. And it kept coming up all the
- 51:23time. And I'd find myself sitting in
- 51:24the car singing and I was like, Oh my God, singing this song.
- 51:27I absolutely love it because they are, they're and I love,
- 51:31they're diverse and they're very different.
- 51:33Each song is different. You don't listen to 1 and think
- 51:35that sounds like this, you know? And I think that even with like
- 51:38McFly, all of their songs are amazing, but there are some
- 51:42several songs that like they got quite a similar vibe or they're
- 51:45quite similar in like their style or the way they sound.
- 51:48But I actually, I love that about your music.
- 51:50I think that that you're very diverse when it comes to
- 51:53performing and writing. My question for you about this
- 51:56is, you're welcome. What is your favourite song that
- 51:59you've released so far? And my other question was what
- 52:03what are your upcoming songs that we should keep our eyes
- 52:05peeled for? So you can perhaps talk about
- 52:07your favourite one and then talk about this one that's coming
- 52:08out. Oh gosh, this is like trying to
- 52:11pick a favourite child. I could do that easy.
- 52:15I'm joking. I'm joking.
- 52:15I could I? Feel like I feel like the stuff
- 52:22that I've started releasing since XOX.
- 52:24Baby goodnight. It's been just me and my
- 52:30producer and Co writer Sam Ray. We work so well together and I
- 52:34feel like we just like trust each other so much in what we do
- 52:38and we respect each other's talents and everything we've
- 52:41released since then feels right. It feels like me.
- 52:45It feels really special. That's what you want.
- 52:49Yeah. I love, I love XOX, though, And
- 52:51we've got a tattoo. XOX tattoo because I love that
- 52:54one so much. Yeah.
- 52:56That has to be like. AI do love it.
- 52:59I'm such a bop. I'm like, oh, here we go, it's a
- 53:01bop. That's a very good word to
- 53:04describe it. A BOP.
- 53:07Yeah, there's something like girly pop like, and I really
- 53:09love like if I had to say like, what's my style?
- 53:11I'd be like, it's her. She's.
- 53:13We are here from A. Girly I love.
- 53:16So here for it and there is like almost like an element of
- 53:20nostalgia with it as well. I think that a few of them that
- 53:22I listen to, I almost feel like that that sort of naughty is
- 53:25like early 2000 tens like nostalgia because, like you
- 53:28said, it is that sort of like girly pop vibe in some of them.
- 53:31But that's something that really when we heard about the new one
- 53:34that's coming out before the podcast, that was like, wow,
- 53:36this is a fan that was really like different to what I'd heard
- 53:40from you so far. Tell us a little bit about that
- 53:42song and and sort of where the inspiration came from for him.
- 53:47So we, I wanted to tap into something that could be
- 53:53universally relatable for Eurovision and then also
- 53:57something that was authentic to me because I just feel like if
- 53:59you're going to do something on that stage, it's got to be
- 54:01authentic because. But you can see straight through
- 54:03it if not. And as well as Sagar Christmas,
- 54:07I lost one of my closest friends like 4 years ago and it was just
- 54:11something that, yeah, it's something that I hadn't really
- 54:15been able to write about until now.
- 54:18And I was like, let's just like, unfortunately grief is a
- 54:22universal thing. Like unfortunately everyone goes
- 54:24through it. And I just thought, yeah, let's
- 54:26write about it in a way that's a bit more.
- 54:29Sam actually came up with the lyric of I'm scared of
- 54:32forgetting your voice. And it's just like that whole
- 54:34thing of it's so true, isn't it? Like that kind of thing about I
- 54:37don't want to forget this person.
- 54:38Yeah. So yeah, it was it was that that
- 54:41was kind of what we wanted for that and really wanted to
- 54:43encapsulate that, like Sucker Punch being that feeling of when
- 54:48you're going about your day and then suddenly grief hits you
- 54:50when you like see something or something comes out of the blue.
- 54:53And we wanted to kind of have that in the song.
- 54:56And there's like elements of the song where like, I feel like it,
- 54:59it, it yeah, really encapsulates that.
- 55:01And I'm, it's so strange because we've had we've started writing
- 55:04this song last year and we've had this song for so long.
- 55:06And now suddenly I'm just like, here you go.
- 55:08Everyone now it's coming out. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:10It must be really scary though, as well.
- 55:12Like when you have like a baby, it's like you, it's you've
- 55:15watched it. You've probably gone back to it
- 55:17and changed it and thought about different ways of doing it.
- 55:19And, you know, I think all of that comes when and the editing
- 55:22and the layers of songs and adding harmonies and thinking
- 55:25about chords and, you know, drum kits and all of that.
- 55:28You know, I mean, it's so much, it's not just writing and
- 55:30singing a song. There's so much more to it than
- 55:32that. And you have to make sure it is
- 55:34right before you're ready to sort of release it to the world.
- 55:37Well, we're very excited. When does the song come out?
- 55:4027th of February. Two days of every.
- 55:43Two days and it's fine from. Recording be on the Spotify on
- 55:47the old. Spotify, my iTunes, Apple Music,
- 55:50everywhere. Everywhere, Yeah.
- 55:52Amazing plug plug. Wait yes, absolutely can't wait
- 55:55to hear the whole thing and we'll definitely be sharing on
- 55:57our socials as well. So oh listening now.
- 56:00If you're listening now, it'll already be out.
- 56:01So if you haven't listened to it already, what the hell are you
- 56:03doing? Get over to Spotify and get it
- 56:05on there. It's called Sucker Punch, not.
- 56:07Sold it enough. Yeah, exactly.
- 56:09Well, it's a little bit sad, but if you want to tell me a bit
- 56:12more upbeat, there's plenty more on Absolutely Spotify, Yeah.
- 56:16When I come head over and I'm like, I don't.
- 56:17Really know how to. I'm so used to like promoting
- 56:20like lip sync and you're long to like popping upbeat songs and
- 56:23I'm like, I don't know how to promote a sad song.
- 56:25Do you know what though? I think the song song will do
- 56:28its thing. They're relatable and that's
- 56:30sad. And sometimes I love a sad girl
- 56:32song. Oh my God, I love it.
- 56:34Oh, yeah, I am. Like, get me some sad songs on
- 56:36in the car on a long journey. I'm driving up to like Devon or
- 56:40I'm going to Bristol to see friends or family, whatever, and
- 56:42I've got a few hours in the car. You best believe I'm.
- 56:45I'm crying halfway through it. Yeah, I do mind my happy,
- 56:50exciting musicals. I got a bit of like, Book of
- 56:52Mormon. And then we get like waitress on
- 56:54and the tears are out and I'm like crying my eyes.
- 56:57I love a sad girl song. So there's definitely room for
- 57:01it. 100%, yeah. 100% So another thing we also do on our podcast
- 57:07is during, during song of the week is that we rate some songs.
- 57:11So we thought we'd throw some McFly songs at you and just get
- 57:14your feelers, see how you rate them.
- 57:16Is that all right? Yes, yeah.
- 57:19And what am I rating them out of?
- 57:22We usually do out of 10. Yeah, we're out of 10.
- 57:24And we'll just put this out here because Shannon has been brutal
- 57:28with some of her ratings. If you had some of her ratings,
- 57:32Hannah, you probably would be like, why are you even here?
- 57:35You think that I wasn't a McFly fan?
- 57:37But we rate them against other McFly songs, not against the
- 57:42whole world of pop, rock or the whole world music.
- 57:45So you're rating against other McFly songs.
- 57:47If you think about your top ever McFly song being 10, you'd be
- 57:52ranking them sort of in terms of where they sit on that roster,
- 57:55not in terms of, you know, the worldwide music.
- 57:57Otherwise it would be really difficult.
- 57:59OK, super. And also we, if you feel like
- 58:02it, you can also rate it like live.
- 58:05So what I normally do is I rate the song and then I rate how I
- 58:09how I enjoy it live because it's normally very different.
- 58:12It's a different vibe. Yeah, they're all. 10s Shannon's
- 58:15are all 10s live. All 10s live but.
- 58:17They're not all 10s when she's ranking the single version.
- 58:22Like like the first one? My first one definitely was not
- 58:25a 10/5 colours. What would you rate it?
- 58:29Yeah, I would not rate it A10. I'm so sorry.
- 58:34Good at the time, Catchy. Oh gosh, I don't know.
- 58:41I wouldn't listen to it in the car.
- 58:42Sorry, boys. Oh my God, I know who.
- 58:46Are you in do? You know what?
- 58:48I don't even. Seen.
- 58:51I don't really listen to the singles.
- 58:53Yeah, I don't really listen to the singles.
- 58:55I'm like. Thank you.
- 58:57Girl, yeah. So, oh, I don't know, like A6 or
- 59:02A7. Oh wow.
- 59:04You think Still better than my one?
- 59:06Oh, my God, Did she just do the 60?
- 59:10My God. I'm a teacher, Hannah.
- 59:12And having to listen to that all day, every day, you do not know
- 59:15the pain it inflicts on my brain.
- 59:18I'll let you off because we like you.
- 59:19OK? We'll let you off.
- 59:20Yeah. Do you want to know what Shannon
- 59:23rated that? That song.
- 59:24I. Don't know like 4.
- 59:26Shannon Shannon, what did you rate 5 colours in a hair?
- 59:29I think I rated it like 2-3. It was, I think it was.
- 59:35Well, I'm. Going to be.
- 59:36Generous. I'm going to be generous because
- 59:38I love them, but yeah. 10 out of 10 live. 10 out of 10 live.
- 59:42But do I listen to it now? No Would I pick any other song
- 59:45over that? Probably.
- 59:47Oh my. God I absolutely love 5 colours.
- 59:49I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum here.
- 59:51I think I went for a six or A7 but I love it.
- 59:54I would definitely listen to it. OK, so #2 is one of my
- 59:58favourites. It's right up there.
- 59:59It's broccoli. Tell us how you feel about
- 1:00:01broccoli. Love broccoli.
- 1:00:04The song, not the food. Yeah, yeah, food and song like
- 1:00:08the song more food. Yeah, I love it.
- 1:00:11I probably put it as this is the difficult when you start ranking
- 1:00:16and then you kind of have to then go from there.
- 1:00:19I would put it in an 8. I put it in an 8.
- 1:00:21Good. Shout yeah.
- 1:00:22OK, cool. Next one.
- 1:00:25Happiness. Oh, it's kind of boring, no
- 1:00:32offence. Just me.
- 1:00:40A4 I'm sorry. OK, OK.
- 1:00:46We can deal with that. We can deal with that.
- 1:00:48The next one is the heart never lies.
- 1:00:52Oh us got to be up with. It's difficult because I
- 1:00:57wouldn't listen to it like if it came on my Spotify because
- 1:01:00again, it's a single like no offence.
- 1:01:01I would just be like but live. I'm like crying.
- 1:01:04I'm like. Crying, We know that feeling
- 1:01:07I'm. Like fly's here forever.
- 1:01:10Yeah, she always. But let's see, I'm going to go
- 1:01:18in 8.5. I think it's better than
- 1:01:19broccoli but I still it's not top for me.
- 1:01:22OK, that's fine. We're OK with it.
- 1:01:24We're OK with it. Yeah, OK, so love is easy.
- 1:01:36Do you know what? Right.
- 1:01:37OK, so it's it's a lovely song. Not like that era is not my
- 1:01:44favourite like that, kind of. The suits.
- 1:01:49I just got. Weird tailored suit.
- 1:01:51Tarted suit. Oh my good Lord.
- 1:01:57Maybe like a a six. I'm being kind.
- 1:02:02Yeah, no, we're OK with. It I'm already like a girl.
- 1:02:05OK, OK. Yeah, no, the next one is.
- 1:02:09If you see Kate. 9 up there up there, yes, I.
- 1:02:16Love that so. Much maybe, maybe 9.5 have you?
- 1:02:19Ever meet anybody that likes that song?
- 1:02:21I bloody love that song. Brilliant song, yeah.
- 1:02:25Amazing. Recently I was like volume up.
- 1:02:27I was like, yes. Please.
- 1:02:30Oh good, so I love that song. Love that.
- 1:02:33Amazing. I love that.
- 1:02:34Yeah, next one is met this girl. Oh.
- 1:02:46I like it. It's a bop we're going to go up
- 1:02:55with, like the sevens, eights. Nice Taylor, tell her you're
- 1:03:01rating. No, I like it.
- 1:03:04This is one of my lowest rated McFly signs.
- 1:03:07Really. I don't know why I don't like
- 1:03:09it. It's so.
- 1:03:11And you know what's really annoying?
- 1:03:12Hannah, right? We did this episode the other
- 1:03:14day. So I ranked it.
- 1:03:15I think I was at like a 2 or a three.
- 1:03:16It was pretty low. You did it as A1 Taylor.
- 1:03:19You did it as a one. I thought it was a 2.
- 1:03:21Oh, OK. All right.
- 1:03:22Maybe. You did 2 and then you were
- 1:03:23like, actually I think this is the worst one.
- 1:03:26Do you know? What?
- 1:03:26I've got this confused? I've got this confused with
- 1:03:28another song. Oh, no, I've got confused with,
- 1:03:36well, they did live. And it's like the call and
- 1:03:39response. That girl, that girl I got, I
- 1:03:41got it changed. Yeah.
- 1:03:43Oh, that girl is a banger Met this girl is not so good.
- 1:03:48OK, met the maybe met this girl. How does the chorus go, Shannon?
- 1:03:52I can't remember the chorus. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:59I. Mean we had like a 5 or 6.
- 1:04:04OK. Not one or two though, right?
- 1:04:07Sorry. That's insane.
- 1:04:09No. Not one or two.
- 1:04:11I just, I, I don't know what it is.
- 1:04:13I just think it's a really lyrically it's just not good.
- 1:04:17It's just, it's a bit of a filler.
- 1:04:19It's one of those, yeah, like if they played it, I would dance,
- 1:04:22but it's not my. It's definitely not one where I
- 1:04:25was like, Oh yeah, this is a great song.
- 1:04:27It's not a great lyrically, it's not great, but it's catchy
- 1:04:30because two days after I'd said it's a one on the podcast, I was
- 1:04:33in my room singing it and I was like, like, what am I doing?
- 1:04:36Yeah, so annoying. OK, we're whipping over to Power
- 1:04:41to Play and you know what? I tried to like spread these
- 1:04:44songs out a little bit because we were going to do some Busted
- 1:04:46ones and then we were like, now let's just give a McFly.
- 1:04:48And then I was like, Oh my God, I need to try and choose a song
- 1:04:50from every album. But it was just, there was so
- 1:04:52many to choose from. It was actually so hard to do.
- 1:04:55So I kind of just jumped to Power to Play at the end and I
- 1:04:58was like, let's do, where did all the guitars go to put on
- 1:05:01there? So that's the last one.
- 1:05:02Where did all the guitars go? Five.
- 1:05:08I'm not that. It's it's when I first heard it,
- 1:05:14I was like, oh, this is I think they were playing into what you
- 1:05:18would expect from McFly. Yeah, yeah, I get what you mean.
- 1:05:24Yeah. What I'll say is I think this,
- 1:05:27this song is a good opener. Like on a tour, it's a good
- 1:05:30opener. It worked for Bastard versus
- 1:05:32McFly 100%. It definitely worked for that.
- 1:05:36I get you, could I? Tell you which songs I would
- 1:05:38have put like. I was going to, I was literally
- 1:05:41just going to say, can you give us?
- 1:05:42Your top. I'm like, they're your favourite
- 1:05:45band ever and I'm like 5-6, no. That's me at the moment.
- 1:05:51Give us your top five. Go on.
- 1:05:53Well, my favourite song of all time generally is bubble wrap.
- 1:05:58Nice, great, great. I didn't.
- 1:06:00Want to put any more from the first album on?
- 1:06:03The first album. Motion.
- 1:06:05Motion in the ocean. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:07Yeah. Bubble wrap walk in the sun.
- 1:06:10So good. I love not alone.
- 1:06:16I think I would like the slow ones although but then I love
- 1:06:20like corrupted corrupted. The last song.
- 1:06:24Do you like the last? Song the last song yeah the last
- 1:06:27song yeah although wasn't so sure because they ended the my
- 1:06:31favourite album of all time or like with the end the last song
- 1:06:35and then they disappeared for like 7 they.
- 1:06:37Just disappeared. Yeah.
- 1:06:38Are you coming? It really is the last song.
- 1:06:42Touch the rain, touch the rain, touch the rain, Touch the Rain
- 1:06:45is like one of my favourite songs.
- 1:06:46And then also now Red Love red and also I'm probably giving
- 1:06:53more than 5. Carry on, just list them off
- 1:06:56forever. Forever is not enough.
- 1:06:58Yeah. Great song.
- 1:07:01I will say justice for justice for Ballad of Pool Ki.
- 1:07:04Say it. I love Ballad of Pool K.
- 1:07:07Yeah, she did say she, yeah, Hannah did mention it earlier
- 1:07:10though, Shannon. So there you go.
- 1:07:11That's something. I'll give you that, I do.
- 1:07:13Love it wouldn't put it in my like top five my top tier.
- 1:07:17I just feel like nothing can touch like bubble wrap and or
- 1:07:20like. Oh my God, did you see the video
- 1:07:22on all about McFly YouTube where they did the ranking and they
- 1:07:25did like God tier, top tier, mid tier and then they had the meth
- 1:07:30tier or something? I've I've done some edits for it
- 1:07:33so that it it'll go up on the insta over the next probably the
- 1:07:36next week, but I'll have to send you the link because it was such
- 1:07:38a good, it was them ranking their songs and it was really
- 1:07:41interesting to see where they ranked.
- 1:07:44They obviously didn't do all of them, but like they, they ranked
- 1:07:46quite a few and it was interesting to see what they
- 1:07:48would put like on par with other sorts.
- 1:07:51I was just like, they do not belong in the same category.
- 1:07:53Some of these. What are you doing?
- 1:07:57But yeah, it was actually really interesting to see what they
- 1:07:59thought. So when you said that top tier,
- 1:08:01then that was what they the one of the categories.
- 1:08:03So talking about top tier then should we have a little chat
- 1:08:06about Above the Noise because we know that that's a big old
- 1:08:09favourite of yours? Well, when I well, so when I
- 1:08:15first heard it, when I first had party girl, I'm not going to lie
- 1:08:20to you, I cried. Not in a good way, right?
- 1:08:24I think. It was the only one in their
- 1:08:27mess category. I was like what has happened?
- 1:08:31What is this? Why is Harry a vampire?
- 1:08:35I could not cope. I remember so vividly, I was sat
- 1:08:38in my Conservatory. I think Fern Cotton played it as
- 1:08:41like the first play and I was sat there and I was so excited
- 1:08:45and then I was just like, what's happened to my favourite?
- 1:08:50Why have they got electronic? Yeah, it was very dance like.
- 1:08:54It was very like disco heavy, wasn't it?
- 1:08:56Like a club heavy. Party Girl.
- 1:08:59Yeah, it just was. Like this is, I was like, this
- 1:09:01is the worst album ever. I hate it.
- 1:09:03And then I've come back to it. I've come back to it more
- 1:09:06recently and I'm like, they need to do this as like a them
- 1:09:11version. They need to do it like 100% and
- 1:09:14it would be so good. Like nowhere left to Run.
- 1:09:17So good. Like so good.
- 1:09:20I saw a video of Tom singing I'll Be Your Man earlier as well
- 1:09:23and I was like. That's such a good song.
- 1:09:26I feel like my songs so underrated.
- 1:09:29It's so underrated, and actually I think this album is underrated
- 1:09:32because I Need a Woman is also very, very good.
- 1:09:34We all know how I feel about That's the Truth.
- 1:09:37I love that song so much. I don't know what it is.
- 1:09:40It came on one day on like a shuffle had like this is McFly
- 1:09:43on and I had like it on shuffle and it came on and I was like,
- 1:09:47Oh my God, I have not heard this song in so long.
- 1:09:50Probably like 10 years since I'd heard it because it's not one of
- 1:09:53those like go to songs. And to be honest, McFly became
- 1:09:58more of like an everyday play for me when we decided to do the
- 1:10:01podcast. I, it was definitely a weekly
- 1:10:04play, but I got very obsessed with Taylor Swift for a very,
- 1:10:08very long time, hands up. And I also did the same with
- 1:10:12Youngblood for quite a while. And I like only listened to
- 1:10:14those artists for such a long time that I almost forgot about,
- 1:10:17I didn't forget about them, but like my other music tastes sort
- 1:10:20of like drifted. And then one day this song just
- 1:10:22came on and I was like, Oh my Lord.
- 1:10:26Yeah, we're back. It's such a good.
- 1:10:28What's your favourite song on this album?
- 1:10:31Oh, on above the noise. Yeah, Oh.
- 1:10:35Probably no one left to run. I would say yeah.
- 1:10:39Good song. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:40The album. The album isn't.
- 1:10:42I'm sorry. There you go.
- 1:10:43No, no, you carry on. Oh.
- 1:10:45No, I was just going to say the album overall, like I would put,
- 1:10:49I would put radioactive and then motion in the ocean above them.
- 1:10:53Yeah. Oh yeah, definitely.
- 1:10:54But yeah, I think for the the song itself, yeah.
- 1:11:00And I think they did the acoustic version, didn't they?
- 1:11:02Yeah, that was the acoustic version.
- 1:11:06There's an the acoustic. I'll Be Your Man video that I
- 1:11:09saw earlier was an acoustic, but it was, I don't know whether it
- 1:11:11was just like a backstage video or something.
- 1:11:13I only like scroll past it really quickly because I was
- 1:11:15setting up. I'll try and find that later.
- 1:11:17Shannon, what's your favourite one on this album?
- 1:11:21I don't know, see, this is like a low album for me.
- 1:11:25I mean, I think I think you're completely right in what you
- 1:11:29said, Hannah. When this album came out, it was
- 1:11:31like such AU turn. I was almost like shocked into
- 1:11:34not liking it. But then when you listen to the
- 1:11:37songs individually, they're OK. I just wasn't a fan of the album
- 1:11:41as a whole. I really like No, I left to run.
- 1:11:44I really like That's the truth. I'll be your man if you see
- 1:11:48Kate. The obvious ones.
- 1:11:51Shine a lot. How are we forgetting?
- 1:11:52Shine a light. I'm sorry, what?
- 1:11:54Shine a light, yeah? It's one of those like
- 1:11:56everybody's like, oh shine a light.
- 1:11:58Oh my God, I love it. It's one of my favourite songs.
- 1:12:00I think it's one of those that I wouldn't put on, but then when
- 1:12:02it comes on, you're just like, Oh yeah.
- 1:12:04I had vivid, vivid memories of Tom getting down on his knees
- 1:12:10when we watched when it was Mcbusted and they they might
- 1:12:14have been. Was it Mcbusted Shannon?
- 1:12:17Why not have been my busted? Yeah, they, they had the sign
- 1:12:19was on fire behind them and it was just like, and I was.
- 1:12:23Like, oh, it might have been like.
- 1:12:25A. Vivid memory of Tom getting down
- 1:12:28on his knees in front. Literally, we were.
- 1:12:30It must have been because we were in the MG pit.
- 1:12:32He was on his knees and he was pointing at me singing show.
- 1:12:37Yeah. And I was like, please, where's
- 1:12:39my spotlight? Come on, I'm here.
- 1:12:42I think did I not could have cried?
- 1:12:43Did I not hold my torch in on you?
- 1:12:45You were. Pointing give me it.
- 1:12:50Was such a nice memory. So I think like I had such a
- 1:12:52vivid, vivid memory of that song, but that it does hit me
- 1:12:56every time. I've got a few of those.
- 1:12:58Definitely a great album. Definitely not a top album for
- 1:13:01me, but a great album for sure. Not a top album, but I think
- 1:13:05latterly, I mean, I was very much like, I listened to it
- 1:13:08because I was like, I'm a McFly fun and I have to listen to it
- 1:13:11at the time. But then I was just like, no
- 1:13:13more. And then I've come back through
- 1:13:15it in like more recent years and I've been like, Oh my God, bop.
- 1:13:19Yeah, it's not. So I think I appreciate it.
- 1:13:20More now it's age. Well, yeah, I love that.
- 1:13:23Yeah, love that. It's game time and this one is
- 1:13:29called Finish the Lyric where, you guessed it, we're getting
- 1:13:32Hannah to finish all the lyrics. Oh yes, we've got 10 lyrics from
- 1:13:35McFly songs that we want you to either fill in the blank or
- 1:13:38finish the lyric. Most of them are finish the
- 1:13:40lyric you can just. Finish the lyric song, yes.
- 1:13:43OK. Bonus points if you can tell us
- 1:13:45what song and album it's from, all right?
- 1:13:48Yeah, extra. So you get a point for the song
- 1:13:50and you get a point for the album.
- 1:13:52OK, so really, there's a total of 20 points up for grabs here.
- 1:13:55Are you ready? I'm nervous if there's any young
- 1:13:58dumb thrills in there then I'm not going to do well.
- 1:14:00You'll be fine, I promise. You'll be fine.
- 1:14:05OK. She's got a boyfriend.
- 1:14:07He drives me round the bend. I don't know, I can't think.
- 1:14:15Should I? Should I sing it?
- 1:14:17I should I sing? I need to like intonation, OK?
- 1:14:21She's got a boyfriend. He drives me round the bend.
- 1:14:26Does that help? Oh, obviously.
- 1:14:29Hey, there you go. I'm trying to read them without
- 1:14:32the with the without the tone of voice, so that like they're
- 1:14:35harder because I thought you. Finish the lyrics, though this
- 1:14:37is the next possible. I'm not going to be able to.
- 1:14:42Yeah, what's the next? Is he's 23 inches in the movies
- 1:14:47kill me yeah of. Course 2 points, you get that
- 1:14:53one. I'll let you have that one.
- 1:14:55OK, next one. I can do the next one.
- 1:14:57I'm stressed. Next one when life has been
- 1:15:00unkind and you're losing your mind.
- 1:15:09Look in the mirror. Afraid of what you'll find?
- 1:15:14Yeah, on Wonderland. Yeah, Well, OK.
- 1:15:19Thank God. OK, you're OK.
- 1:15:25OK, next one from this I'm just like staring down at my.
- 1:15:30Help. OK, next one.
- 1:15:33Yep, this is actually just #3 not #3M4.
- 1:15:36I've labelled it wrong, but never mind people marching to
- 1:15:39the drums, everybody's having fun.
- 1:15:41To the sound of love. Ugly is the world, but on.
- 1:15:46If I'm right, then prove me wrong.
- 1:15:47I'll start. Yeah.
- 1:15:50Transylvania. Well done.
- 1:15:52Most in the ocean. Yes, two points.
- 1:15:55That's good. Well done.
- 1:15:57OK, next one so. Now you're doing it, you're
- 1:16:00doing good, you're smashing it. She's so.
- 1:16:02Really stressed I. Can't say it though, I have to
- 1:16:05like sing it in my head. Yeah, but you're a singer.
- 1:16:07At least you can. You're a singer, and you can get
- 1:16:09away with singing. Yeah, sounding like throwing a
- 1:16:11bag of cats at the wall. OK OK next one is so go tell
- 1:16:18your lovers your father's and brothers.
- 1:16:21Your sisters and mothers, how lucky they are.
- 1:16:24Yeah. And that is one for the Radio
- 1:16:29Radioactive. Yeah, well done.
- 1:16:31Love it. I'm.
- 1:16:32In I'm in, I'm watching. You're doing good.
- 1:16:35You're amazing. Well done.
- 1:16:36The next one is the Devil has his eye on you girl. 00 is this
- 1:16:45party? Is this party?
- 1:16:46Yeah, no. No, I'll let you have another
- 1:16:49guess. Have a think?
- 1:16:52You definitely know. I think you've already.
- 1:16:53Mentioned I know, but I don't know where it's from.
- 1:16:56Also, Taylor, I think you've taken a really hard line from
- 1:16:59this song. Oh, every time I hear this line,
- 1:17:02I hear the next bit. So that's why I think, oh
- 1:17:04really? Yeah, it is.
- 1:17:08To be fair, probably is quite hard.
- 1:17:11Give a bit. More is there anything like
- 1:17:12beforehand have a little bit before?
- 1:17:15Can I do the sort of like the sound of it?
- 1:17:25I as soon as you as soon as you're humming, I've got it
- 1:17:26lies. But there you go.
- 1:17:30Maybe too much help, I don't. Know what comes after it though.
- 1:17:37No, I can't hear it. The devil has his eye.
- 1:17:41On when you start, when you start walking, I start talking.
- 1:17:45No, the way around. The way around.
- 1:17:49Yeah. There you go.
- 1:17:50We got there in the end, OK. I think it's just.
- 1:17:53Like you're like the devil has line.
- 1:17:55And I was like. It's quite a short lyric.
- 1:17:57It was the tricky one. The other ones are a bit longer,
- 1:17:59so that was quite a tricky. One, I think it's a short one
- 1:18:02that didn't get like obviously I've got a short 1.
- 1:18:03You've got to like, think like what the song, like the sound of
- 1:18:07it before you can hear the next line.
- 1:18:08I think that's the hardest part, isn't it?
- 1:18:11Yeah. OK, Next one.
- 1:18:13Next one is will you pull me from the flames and hold me till
- 1:18:16I feel no pain? And give me shelter from the
- 1:18:22rain. Yeah, well done.
- 1:18:24More. And that was a shine, a light.
- 1:18:30Yeah, love it. Next one.
- 1:18:35I might have wasted the tears, but I won't waste the years.
- 1:18:39Oh, is it? Tonight is the night.
- 1:18:43Yeah, well done. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:18:45Good. Well done.
- 1:18:49Nice. What?
- 1:18:49The lyrics. One is I just.
- 1:18:51Guessing. Oh.
- 1:18:51Yeah, actually is. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:54Keep going. I don't.
- 1:18:57I don't actually know all the words of that song though, so
- 1:18:59it's really bad, isn't he? I felt like this was the
- 1:19:02pinnacle point of the song, but actually I can't even hear it in
- 1:19:05my own head and I've written the quiz I.
- 1:19:08Didn't write the answer down. The next line is tonight is the
- 1:19:11night. Who is it?
- 1:19:13Just tonight is the night, yeah. Is that actually the next line?
- 1:19:16But I always say yes, tonight is the night.
- 1:19:20OK, so I'm such an easy. Yeah.
- 1:19:22What? How you got to pick the easiest
- 1:19:24line? This is why you don't need Do
- 1:19:27you know what? I did this quiz because Shannon
- 1:19:28was really busy and I was like, I'll do some of the lyrics, I'll
- 1:19:32help out a little bit. And I've just done it really
- 1:19:34badly. This is why Shannon does the
- 1:19:35quiz. No, it's fine.
- 1:19:38It's good. Next one is once more for us.
- 1:19:43Once more, no giving up. Yeah, the power to play of
- 1:19:51forever is not enough. Yeah, well done.
- 1:19:55OK, last one, Last one. Who's going to play for the kids
- 1:20:00with long hair when nobody cares?
- 1:20:05This is. Guitar.
- 1:20:09Where did all the guitars go? What's the next lyric?
- 1:20:14I can't think of the next lyric. Oh.
- 1:20:16My gosh. Can you sing it?
- 1:20:18But no, I can't. The melody's gone from my head.
- 1:20:23Who's there for? The kids with long hair when
- 1:20:26nobody cares. No, no.
- 1:20:36How will they cope with the pain?
- 1:20:39Oh, there we go. Sorry, the song wasn't.
- 1:20:43It you're right, you still get a point because you still you
- 1:20:47guessed the song, so I'll let you off.
- 1:20:50Well. Done.
- 1:20:51Yeah, you did. You did good with that.
- 1:20:53So actually you've got all of them but one.
- 1:20:57So you did. Yeah, really.
- 1:20:58Well, so you got 19 out of 20. So I think there you go.
- 1:21:02You can join the fail. That's a fail in my.
- 1:21:07I promise you, I have done so much worse.
- 1:21:10Oh my God, Shannon's literally 0.
- 1:21:12And we do like Busted says and McFly says, which is where we
- 1:21:15take a like quote from each of the band members and we have to
- 1:21:18match it up. And we're both awful.
- 1:21:20Literally every time we've done it, we've failed.
- 1:21:23I get 0 every time. So bad.
- 1:21:26Why are we so bad at this? And we literally have a podcast
- 1:21:29all about them. So you know you've done well,
- 1:21:31Don't worry. Before this I was like, do I
- 1:21:34need to like listen to all of the McFly songs in prep?
- 1:21:36And I'm like, come on, it's really not that.
- 1:21:40Bad. We're really, really it.
- 1:21:42We we love them. They are very big parts of our
- 1:21:44lives. But my gosh, there's definitely
- 1:21:46things we don't know. So don't panic.
