- 0:00Speaker 1: I think we could have record number of people in
- 0:02Speaker 1: here today. Were in trouble because it feels like a
- 0:04Speaker 1: lot of security.
- 0:06Speaker 2: We're getting more employees from Australia to supervise. I feel
- 0:11Speaker 2: like someone's a spy.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Someone's a spy. Who is it? Take three?
- 0:16Speaker 3: Take three?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Should I cut it and start it again?
- 0:19Speaker 1: Uh?
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's beginning to look a lot like tennis.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Joil around the ground. Everywhere you look, there's a people
- 0:33Speaker 1: with their hats. So can I just go home?
- 0:40Speaker 3: No?
- 0:40Speaker 2: No, no, no, no stuff.
- 0:44Speaker 3: I don't know why.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Pay everybody. You're back on Tennis FM with Fridgie and
- 0:50Speaker 4: the Bear. Another huge day at the Australian opened a
- 0:53Speaker 4: day number two was in the books. Let's check in
- 0:56Speaker 4: with our weather girl Lizzy.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Who everyone, it's.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I can talk today.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's gonna be another hot one out there.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Michael doing.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I think I've lost the plot. I've had two coffees already.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Oh I am look out.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I need to go back to bed. Night.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's here we are. Day number two is done
- 1:24Speaker 2: and the first round is still going. It's just for
- 1:27Speaker 2: anyone who's been watching tennis forever. It feels weird that
- 1:29Speaker 2: three days into a tournament. That's still round one. Yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 2: it should be done.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it was two days right before, and now they
- 1:38Speaker 1: started earlier on the Sunday and it goes for three days.
- 1:42Speaker 1: That is a long time. I know it's a little
- 1:44Speaker 1: bit easter break.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's a bit easter breaking, but there's so many matches
- 1:47Speaker 2: to get through. So much happened yesterday. I want to
- 1:51Speaker 2: begin by talking about probably the most important tennis match
- 1:54Speaker 2: that happened over the past couple of days. I played
- 1:57Speaker 2: my good buddy Oliver Water Club. Yes, big serve, Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Which is one big serve. That's how I heard that.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Mike did one big We did a.
- 2:12Speaker 2: One point slam. No, we played best of three sets
- 2:18Speaker 2: and then the third set decider, I lost six three.
- 2:22Speaker 2: But I have something to blame it on.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Oh what is this?
- 2:26Speaker 3: Is it?
- 2:26Speaker 1: He looked at me.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I was. I was thinking about how if
- 2:34Speaker 2: I did that. It's beginning to look a lot like
- 2:35Speaker 2: tennis riff. You would not stick to land.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Terrible landing.
- 2:43Speaker 2: My excuse is, for some reason, the Tennis Club, when
- 2:46Speaker 2: they're they have a practice or whatever training lessons going
- 2:50Speaker 2: on on the other courts, they decided to start blaring
- 2:52Speaker 2: music through the speakers, So do they now surround the club?
- 2:56Speaker 2: And I'm the third set was is where we are too?
- 3:01Speaker 2: All in the third and it's my serve and I
- 3:05Speaker 2: just hear it you, I'm like, I can't.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I love that ruined me.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I couldn't play with Usher he's too Yeah, so I
- 3:21Speaker 2: choked and then.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Look, id I saw a bit of that yesterday when
- 3:25Speaker 1: I was watching in Bocou and Emerson. The Apparol dance
- 3:30Speaker 1: team was outside doing like a promotion with music, and
- 3:35Speaker 1: they had a big speaker that they were carrying in
- 3:37Speaker 1: like a beach buggy bag. I know, it was ridiculous.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So they had like five people doing the Apparole dance.
- 3:43Speaker 1: It was very distracting and you could you would have
- 3:46Speaker 1: been able to hear it from the court, right, So
- 3:48Speaker 1: it's even happening to the pros.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Mike Boco taking that one out. You think Emerson was
- 3:52Speaker 2: phased by the Apparol.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Everything really started to turn when the Apperol dance party
- 3:58Speaker 1: came around the corner.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Okay, well, if she was as petty as me, she
- 4:01Speaker 2: would use it as an excuse for not winning that match.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we had to cut recording the other day
- 4:09Speaker 2: because there was a marching band.
- 4:10Speaker 1: We could hear the vibrations. Music's gotta go. You don't
- 4:15Speaker 1: think about.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Vibration talk abouts. I was, hey, you're gonna give me
- 4:27Speaker 2: ship for this. But I was in a high school
- 4:29Speaker 2: marching band.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Really what instrument? Because I was also in the jazz band.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I did jazz band as well.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Really, oh god, we admit this.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I wore a sequin ones.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Oh yeah, do you still have any of the moves
- 4:44Speaker 1: I do?
- 4:44Speaker 2: Well, it's just marching, so it's just walking in step.
- 4:47Speaker 2: While I was a percussionist, but the first year I
- 4:50Speaker 2: just had to hold the symbols. Oh yeah, yeah, a
- 4:54Speaker 2: lot of that, and it was it was that sucked.
- 4:58Speaker 2: But then eventually I I was playing the snare drum
- 5:01Speaker 2: as a sophomore at Blue Valley North High School and
- 5:04Speaker 2: the cheerleaders could not tell me to get out of
- 5:09Speaker 2: their space quick enough.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Could just snare out of here exactly.
- 5:15Speaker 2: But I wore a big feather. Oh wow, I'll dig
- 5:21Speaker 2: one up.
- 5:22Speaker 1: This is beautiful.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, so yeah, the marching man interrupted us
- 5:26Speaker 2: the other day, but I mean, nothing could interrupt the
- 5:29Speaker 2: tennis action that was happening out on the grounds yesterday.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Some drama one of our faves. Felix Alisim retired, retired,
- 5:38Speaker 2: that's sad. Only two hours in and he cramped up.
- 5:42Speaker 1: There was a bit of cramping yesterday.
- 5:43Speaker 2: It was his time of the month.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Okay, get this guy, some napper.
- 5:51Speaker 2: No, it was two hours in and like it was
- 5:53Speaker 2: hot yesterday and I think he came in but like
- 5:57Speaker 2: he had some kind of illness a couple of weeks
- 6:01Speaker 2: ago and maybe that was.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Watery diary or but Priscilla Han's opponent also had bad
- 6:10Speaker 1: cramping one where the one where your leg will shake,
- 6:13Speaker 1: like really, she couldn't stand on it.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they I think she retired from the match at
- 6:19Speaker 2: five to three and the decider. Yeah, but Ozzie Priscilla.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Han, she's through and we'll take it.
- 6:24Speaker 2: We'll take it.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Brisbane girl, Priscilla Oh is she?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:31Speaker 3: Han?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Solo Han?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Solo? Who's Solo? Han? Who you heard?
- 6:37Speaker 2: Pig Jess Pigola who we had in on the podcast.
- 6:40Speaker 2: We'll get to her interview on a future episode. She
- 6:43Speaker 2: won't easily just breeze through. I thought she might feel
- 6:49Speaker 2: the emotions, mixed emotions with the win because her parents team,
- 6:55Speaker 2: the Buffalo Bills that they own, choked in the playoffs.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yes, she had a bit of time to get over
- 7:00Speaker 1: that she.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Did, but a time to get over that cramping, as
- 7:05Speaker 2: you said, was a big storyline. And we played pickleball
- 7:09Speaker 2: with children yesterday, oh.
- 7:10Speaker 1: My gosh, and we dominated.
- 7:14Speaker 2: We dominated, But I think I was cramping up out.
- 7:17Speaker 1: There really after what twenty minutes?
- 7:21Speaker 2: Is the pickleball package going in this episode?
- 7:23Speaker 1: Hell? Yeah?
- 7:24Speaker 2: All right, so you guys are in for a treat
- 7:26Speaker 2: once you see us out.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Do you see the Japanese cowboy?
- 7:30Speaker 3: Oh?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, so yeah, we played against a Japanese
- 7:34Speaker 2: man and a huge cowboy hat.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah, he wasn't huge, though he was tiny.
- 7:38Speaker 2: He was tiny.
- 7:38Speaker 1: The hat was the same big spirit. Yeah, they were
- 7:43Speaker 1: fun though they had Japanese shirts. They were good talent.
- 7:47Speaker 2: They were good talent. So stay tuned for that. Probably
- 7:51Speaker 2: me being oblivious to who is the most popular player
- 7:56Speaker 2: in the women's.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Draw, But oh my gosh, Alexandra, Yeah, yeah, I love
- 8:00Speaker 1: the Filipino. She is up there in Filipino world with
- 8:06Speaker 1: Manny Pacquiel. Really yeah, okay, they love her as much
- 8:10Speaker 1: as him. Who's the boxer slash politician? Now, have you ever.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Seen an interview with Cameron Diaz where she says, Philippines. Well,
- 8:21Speaker 2: every time I traveled to the Philippines, it's wonderful and
- 8:25Speaker 2: I love I've met so many great people there. Here's
- 8:28Speaker 2: the parks.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yes, So she won the first like six low and
- 8:34Speaker 1: the Pilipinos were out, even on the footbridge. They had
- 8:37Speaker 1: a huge flag. They didn't even come in. They went
- 8:42Speaker 1: crazy for her. And can I tell you this, Her
- 8:47Speaker 1: dad has been in the studio. We had a photo together.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Really yeah, Okay.
- 8:51Speaker 1: He came in. He was just checking it out and
- 8:53Speaker 1: he just wandered in here and I was like hey,
- 8:55Speaker 1: hey bro, and he's like hey. And then someone pointed out,
- 8:59Speaker 1: pointed it out that it was mister Iala.
- 9:02Speaker 2: The fans and the push to get in to see
- 9:05Speaker 2: Alexander Iyolla was absolutely nuts.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like that's why the crowd was so
- 9:10Speaker 1: full yesterday. She's basically every Filipino person in Melbourne.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Is that the tennis so it's been Alexander Iola and
- 9:17Speaker 2: then who was the guy at the one point slam?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Do you remember his name? The pop star from wherever?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Oh J Chow J Chow J Chow.
- 9:28Speaker 2: So those two have been like push.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Asians are pretty much holding this whole tournament up.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:35Speaker 2: She lost to American Alicia Parks, an upcoming player who's
- 9:39Speaker 2: had some injury issues. But I'm good to see Alicia through.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Even though the Craig Tiley and the powers that be
- 9:46Speaker 2: probably won't like that Yalla went out.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I know they need to put Yola on a bigger court.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, because we went and watched The Demon yesterday
- 9:54Speaker 1: and she could have played there.
- 9:56Speaker 2: She could have played there.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah, put Demon on.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Robbery Flavor one thirty or whatever. Yesterday was not full
- 10:03Speaker 2: for the Demon. But I maybe that's taking prices and
- 10:07Speaker 2: first round and stuff, but I feel like we had
- 10:10Speaker 2: a bigger turnout for our one point Slam.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I think we did.
- 10:14Speaker 2: But Demon got through easily against lucky loser Mackenzie McDonald.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Render Connect went out French player Arthur render kannec Uh.
- 10:28Speaker 2: The only reason I mentioned is that that is because
- 10:30Speaker 2: he had my favorite quote from the one point Slam.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Oh yes, yeah.
- 10:35Speaker 2: The when he he had only one serve as a
- 10:37Speaker 2: pro and he served as hard as he could and
- 10:40Speaker 2: they asked him why he served so hard with only
- 10:42Speaker 2: one serve, and he said, they say, go bigger, go home.
- 10:44Speaker 1: And now I go home beautiful. Now he put that
- 10:48Speaker 1: on at he really goes home. Now, he really goes home.
- 10:50Speaker 1: He went too.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Big, He went too big. So he is out. One
- 10:54Speaker 2: of the fan favorites and one of my favorites as well.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Stan var Rinka is through to.
- 10:59Speaker 1: The same I was in the whole way just earlier,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and I keep giving these players in the whole way.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I'm too scared to be like, hey, how are you?
- 11:07Speaker 5: So?
- 11:07Speaker 1: I just stab him down and I gave Stan a
- 11:11Speaker 1: nice smile, did you Yeah, a real beamy smile.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Did he smile back?
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he smiled back, which is nice.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta smile from a legend.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I did. I'll put that one in my pocket,
- 11:25Speaker 1: Thank you, Stan Vaterinka.
- 11:27Speaker 2: And weirdly, so I was watching this on TV and
- 11:31Speaker 2: the announcer, I don't know who it was, but he
- 11:33Speaker 2: put it this way because you know, Stan getting through.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It's awesome to see him going through to the second round.
- 11:40Speaker 2: And the announcer started talking about, well, he's gonna lose eventually,
- 11:43Speaker 2: and it's going to be very sad because it's his
- 11:45Speaker 2: farewell tour of the Grand Slams, and so the announcer said, so,
- 11:49Speaker 2: whoever is playing him in the next round, might have
- 11:51Speaker 2: to shoot Bambi.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Ooh, I was like, first of all, the visual.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Bamby doesn't even get shot. It's Bambi's mom, right yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 12:04Speaker 2: so it's just a brutal way.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Yeah, Famby's like the young kid.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah right, I know.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know about that analogy exactly.
- 12:14Speaker 2: The biggest stat for me for the day is that
- 12:16Speaker 2: Novak Jancovich now has.
- 12:18Speaker 1: One hundred wins stats.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Man Mike Stack corner. But this one is like, I
- 12:28Speaker 2: can't claim any personal research.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I think. I think this is everywhere. I knew that
- 12:35Speaker 1: I did, I did. He had his hundredth game. That's
- 12:38Speaker 1: pretty good.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Yeah, Lizzie, who who still calls a tennis match a game,
- 12:43Speaker 2: knew that that's fine. Yeah, I knew that it was. Yeah,
- 12:48Speaker 2: his hundredth wins. Yes, at the AO, which is crazy.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, the Serbians were out yesterday that you have arrived,
- 12:56Speaker 1: groups of them chanting love it.
- 12:58Speaker 3: One hundred wins.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Is it anything you've done a hundred times?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Yeah, one, one hundred times, one.
- 13:05Speaker 1: A hundred times. Oh, I don't know. I don't think so.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Maybe hockey. Maybe I played a lot of hockey.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Okay, in my life, one hundred hockey games.
- 13:15Speaker 1: It's like when you've played like twenty years of your life, though,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and you play like, what fifteen games a season? Maybe
- 13:24Speaker 1: just maybe just.
- 13:27Speaker 2: You Okay. I was going to wait for how long
- 13:29Speaker 2: until she flipped the question back on.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I'm twisting the script sponsored by pipa Hide Sick.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I was thinking about it. One hundred winds and so
- 13:39Speaker 2: many and then I check the stats because they have
- 13:42Speaker 2: them on the Words with Friends app on my phone.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Wow, you're really revealing yourself today. You're going real vulnerable.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I was in the Marching band and now I play
- 13:51Speaker 1: Words with Friends.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Sound like a.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Little little pip squeak? Is that my voice?
- 14:01Speaker 1: I think kids a pickle ball.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I think inwards with friends. I've beat my auntie Linda
- 14:09Speaker 2: over two hundred times, but her brain has been disintegrating
- 14:14Speaker 2: for years.
- 14:14Speaker 1: She's five years old.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I think I'm two sixty four to like one hundred
- 14:22Speaker 2: and two, so she's still one over one hundred. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:26Speaker 2: and we keep it touch that way.
- 14:27Speaker 3: It's kid.
- 14:28Speaker 1: That's cute. That's very nice.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Just going through the men's draw, there's some other Aussies
- 14:32Speaker 2: through rinky Hijakata beat Mannorino and Manorino is a French
- 14:36Speaker 2: player that I'm always fascinated with. He's very bizarre kind
- 14:39Speaker 2: of style of play.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Heretic erratic.
- 14:42Speaker 2: His strings are like so far apart, it's just crazy string. Yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 2: specification on his racket, it's uh. And even though I've
- 14:53Speaker 2: been watching tennis for years, I've still never heard him speak.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, but I doesn't want to do he doesn't
- 14:58Speaker 1: want to come on the put.
- 15:00Speaker 2: We can try. Well, he's out of the tournament, Adrian.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Get him in. That's the kind of talent we need.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah, just a lot of kind of straight set matches yesterday.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Uhpo Olive is through vander Zanshoalp, which is the name.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I can pronounce. Thank you very much.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Good beat my fellow countryman Nakashima. Even though I claim
- 15:20Speaker 2: Ozzy is fellow countryman as well.
- 15:23Speaker 1: You can claim you got both passports. I'm by by
- 15:27Speaker 1: country us.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Jordan Thompson also threw over surround.
- 15:33Speaker 1: That was a good game. A lot of I like
- 15:35Speaker 1: Jordan's shoe and sock combo. Oh yeah, what was it's purple? Okay,
- 15:41Speaker 1: it's all purple and he looks like it's a little
- 15:44Speaker 1: bit Grimace purple. Oh yeah, Barney balance, Barney Grimace McDonald's guy. Yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you know what, Okay, Yeah, that was a great game.
- 15:57Speaker 2: That was Is Grimace like the other thing?
- 16:00Speaker 1: He's a burglar?
- 16:01Speaker 2: No, the Hamburglar is a burglar.
- 16:05Speaker 1: He's a taste. Bud e roll is just confirmed that
- 16:08Speaker 1: Grimace is a taste.
- 16:09Speaker 2: But that can't be right.
- 16:11Speaker 1: A purple taste, well.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Because the the other ones are all something. Mayor mccheese
- 16:15Speaker 2: is the Mayor, the Hamburglars burglar. Yeah, Grimace is a
- 16:19Speaker 2: big purple blob.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Well, he's a taste confirmed.
- 16:25Speaker 2: He learned it here first on.
- 16:27Speaker 1: That's what people are going to take away from this,
- 16:30Speaker 1: but they will. This is the only thing they'll remember.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I didn't know that, and that you were in the
- 16:35Speaker 1: marching man.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I was going to try and riff on what Grimace
- 16:39Speaker 2: might be, but our producer has to know more than
- 16:41Speaker 2: everybody in the room.
- 16:43Speaker 1: You stunted, Mike's.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I'm kidding, man. Let's look at the women's draws. Chavon
- 16:54Speaker 2: Tech is through. She kind of had some trouble in
- 16:58Speaker 2: the first set, but then she found her form.
- 17:00Speaker 1: My friend is tooch is through Through was a great game.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Battle as well. I'm still calling it a game match.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I'm sorry, something I need to change. Great game, great match,
- 17:17Speaker 1: great match, great battle. I think I'm going to calling
- 17:21Speaker 1: them battle with tennis.
- 17:23Speaker 2: There's games within.
- 17:24Speaker 1: The match that I'm getting confused.
- 17:26Speaker 2: No, you're not getting because it makes sense the game.
- 17:29Speaker 2: But I just think tennis match like hardcore people.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Oh, they will pick me up on that. I'm going
- 17:35Speaker 1: to get a comment on the YouTube page. It's a match,
- 17:41Speaker 1: not a game, you fool.
- 17:47Speaker 2: So who do you? I forget who she played? Tom Lenovic? Oh,
- 17:50Speaker 2: I cannot pronounce who she beat? Star O dubbed to
- 17:53Speaker 2: Seva stir up to dub.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Who cares dubbs?
- 18:06Speaker 2: So Tom Lanovic, I actually have a story about her. Again,
- 18:10Speaker 2: cut for time, But it's when we do promo for
- 18:13Speaker 2: the hundred and we interview the players down there. Tom
- 18:16Speaker 2: Lanovic had just withdrawn from the tournament with an injury,
- 18:19Speaker 2: so this is the day before the tournament starts, but
- 18:22Speaker 2: still wanted to come in and do the interview on
- 18:24Speaker 2: one hundred with me and Andy Lee. Okay, and she
- 18:28Speaker 2: was clearly distraught, clearly had been crying. And then comes
- 18:32Speaker 2: and sits down next to me, and then we're like, hey,
- 18:35Speaker 2: so do you fold or scrunch your toilet paper?
- 18:40Speaker 1: And she was like, squshed to dry my eyes. Oh no, Well,
- 18:47Speaker 1: she came in the other day to play Champagne pong
- 18:50Speaker 1: with me and I was actually terrible at it, and
- 18:52Speaker 1: she was telling me I was terrible letter And then
- 18:55Speaker 1: I asked her, Oh, what did I ask you? I said,
- 18:57Speaker 1: who are you looking forward to playing? And she was like,
- 19:00Speaker 1: what kind of question is that?
- 19:04Speaker 2: It is kind of a weird question.
- 19:06Speaker 1: It is a weird question. And then she said, WHOA
- 19:08Speaker 1: was that too direct? I'm like, it's good. That is good.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Yeah, some lossie bluntness. I love it. Yeah, Krolina Mukova
- 19:18Speaker 2: is through after a tight second set, but she's still
- 19:21Speaker 2: to get out on straight. So we love the Mooch.
- 19:23Speaker 1: We do.
- 19:24Speaker 2: We will pa playing our interview with the Mooch on
- 19:26Speaker 2: the Friend of the Part a future pod. The only
- 19:29Speaker 2: other kind of match that was interesting was Kraichikova versus Schneider.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Schneider who's been looking amazing, like her form has been
- 19:39Speaker 2: great coming into the tournament. She wears a bandana. You
- 19:41Speaker 2: might have seen her.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Yeah, she's very senior bracket.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Still, I have no idea I'm not Can.
- 19:47Speaker 1: You log in because I've got points?
- 19:49Speaker 2: Do you?
- 19:50Speaker 1: I want to get your points?
- 19:51Speaker 2: All right, I'll log in before I've.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Got eighty one points?
- 19:54Speaker 2: Is that good or bad?
- 19:57Speaker 1: If it's more than you, it's good, I guess.
- 19:59Speaker 2: But what's the one of the points? If you're out
- 20:02Speaker 2: of the.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I think they still tally up.
- 20:05Speaker 2: The points, so it's like bragging rights.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Yeah. And I think if like a wild card beats
- 20:10Speaker 1: a seated player, you get more points maybe yeah.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Oh, and then also a good match in the women's
- 20:15Speaker 2: Donna Vecik versus Emira and Dreva greg two set, Yeah,
- 20:23Speaker 2: and then in the third unfortunately the bagel a big
- 20:27Speaker 2: bagel for Donna be.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 2: So let's get into some headline call there it is
- 20:39Speaker 2: headline calls. We live for the sting.
- 20:42Speaker 1: It's so short. Yeah, I feel like I'm waiting for
- 20:45Speaker 1: it to go longer every time. Okay, we're in.
- 20:51Speaker 2: It's the one button that ace Man has to hit
- 20:53Speaker 2: during the whole app and he's still foxing.
- 20:59Speaker 1: We love you, Love ice Man.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Also look out and listen out for Aceman's commentary, did
- 21:06Speaker 2: that make the cup for the pick a ball? Okay?
- 21:09Speaker 2: All right, so you'll hear Aceman's sultry tones, and as
- 21:13Speaker 2: we said, this is true, he learned English from watching
- 21:15Speaker 2: the Borat movie. So when you hit a good shot,
- 21:18Speaker 2: he says, very nice. Novak Djokovic in his post match
- 21:28Speaker 2: interview a lot of body talk.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Got a body talk.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I think we have the vision, all right. So this
- 21:34Speaker 2: is probably my favorite tennis match of all time. Really.
- 21:38Speaker 2: This was the twenty twelve Australian Open that went just
- 21:41Speaker 2: shy of six hours with RAF and a doll. He
- 21:45Speaker 2: rips his shirt off.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Fat everyone's coming.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I wish I could bring back that body, to be honest, you.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Know, And so they play that for him after he's
- 21:57Speaker 1: just won this match. That's an interesting decision.
- 22:03Speaker 2: To do that, all right.
- 22:05Speaker 1: So do you think he asked for that? Do you
- 22:07Speaker 1: think he said to them, like, Hey, if I win tonight,
- 22:09Speaker 1: can you play that package of me from twenty twelve
- 22:12Speaker 1: where I take my shirt?
- 22:14Speaker 2: I'd be I don't know, I'd be willing to bet
- 22:16Speaker 2: he's still just as ripped and yeah, slight as he slights.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Maybe not the right word.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Well, he's like slender, he is slender, Yeah, yeah, But
- 22:26Speaker 2: there's a bit of awkward back and forth when.
- 22:29Speaker 1: You know, the interview talking about his body.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you wouldn't do that with a female, you
- 22:33Speaker 2: would not.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Wow, you look pretty good back then. What happened?
- 22:40Speaker 2: I'm excited.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm speaking about my body, so I get excited
- 22:45Speaker 1: that what he says Tennis though, So.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we have some another story just Medvedev
- 22:54Speaker 2: hitting his head. Vedev just like opening the boot of
- 22:59Speaker 2: one of the key vehicles that's transporting the players around,
- 23:04Speaker 2: and it's just have you seen this?
- 23:06Speaker 1: Yeah? It's not real though, is he he's just pretending?
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, he just pretending. He just head butts the boot
- 23:12Speaker 2: of a car.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Basically, okay, what oh yeah, so.
- 23:15Speaker 2: It's opening, the trunk is opening, and then he just
- 23:17Speaker 2: head I think actually they exclusively got this when he
- 23:21Speaker 2: walked out of his date with you.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Yeah, straight to go, like I need to head butt
- 23:28Speaker 1: a cap. That's how I make guys feel after a date.
- 23:35Speaker 2: After a game.
- 23:36Speaker 3: It's called.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna start calling my dates games. Thanks to the
- 23:43Speaker 1: game mind games actually.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Also get on Rayah if you are on there to
- 23:51Speaker 2: check out.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Account.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Oh, I would love I would love if we could
- 23:57Speaker 2: play that message that some random sent you on there?
- 24:00Speaker 2: Can we play it?
- 24:02Speaker 1: I don't know where my phone is.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So Lizzie who set up a Riot account.
- 24:05Speaker 1: For Yeah, and I got one message from a random.
- 24:09Speaker 2: For pod over Arena and.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I haven't really had many hits. No, yeah, well in
- 24:16Speaker 1: this game.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Wiobridge plugging tipping points.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and then this guy this is amazing.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Hey Lizzie, thank you for matching me on the stocks again.
- 24:28Speaker 5: I love your photos. That's call you from Risbane. I
- 24:31Speaker 5: was just there last week for a quick work trip.
- 24:35Speaker 5: And then yeah, are you a dentist? I had a
- 24:41Speaker 5: day canons? And how are you enjoying the hips to
- 24:46Speaker 5: Melbourne culture Albanians in general? I would love to hang
- 24:50Speaker 5: out if you. Hope you're having a fantastic start. And
- 24:55Speaker 5: yeah we are a cat family, but more interested to
- 24:57Speaker 5: hear about your greyhound dogs still grambling and see you soon?
- 25:04Speaker 3: All right?
- 25:05Speaker 2: So I don't know how well you can hear that.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Did that come through?
- 25:09Speaker 3: Yeah? It was?
- 25:11Speaker 1: That's really got me going hot under the collar.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Why is he whispering?
- 25:17Speaker 3: And why is it?
- 25:18Speaker 2: And then when he goes and then are you a dentist?
- 25:21Speaker 2: Says I could do an.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I was just in Brisbane recently. He's not a fan of.
- 25:30Speaker 2: It's good Oh, I'm not going to murder you, but
- 25:35Speaker 2: I might. I might just lark outside your house a
- 25:38Speaker 2: little bit. I heard you. I heard your dad likes
- 25:41Speaker 2: to hang out in the bushes hot all right, okay,
- 25:49Speaker 2: well that was.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Checking in.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Account the saddest segment.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Yes, let's do. I think we got to look at
- 25:57Speaker 2: Riley Opelca's news sponsor Cease. Have you heard of.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Cease, Cease and Desist?
- 26:06Speaker 2: Maybe you should, because have you looked at what Cease
- 26:11Speaker 2: is putting out there? Again, I'm no fashionista. We should
- 26:13Speaker 2: probably get Liza West back on.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we want her opinion on this for sure.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I think she leaves this week, so I'm gonna we
- 26:21Speaker 2: should get her back on to do like the best
- 26:23Speaker 2: wrap up and the worst of the AO twenty six.
- 26:26Speaker 2: This is Riley Opelka again, muted colors. This down the bottom.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I can see the shorts. Is that sweat?
- 26:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's sweat.
- 26:37Speaker 2: I thought it might be the weird design.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Well, no, you can see it over here. That's sweat. Yeah,
- 26:44Speaker 1: and crutch sweat yeah.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Okay, ro I thought it was some weird design where
- 26:48Speaker 2: they wanted to make it look like he's pissed his pants.
- 26:52Speaker 1: This is this is giving a little bit scout Master.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Scout master vibes, yeah, or like works at a public park. Ye,
- 27:00Speaker 2: public park. But let's check the prices on some of this.
- 27:04Speaker 1: This is crazy, very expensive.
- 27:06Speaker 2: What hops out at you? The tennis shorts seven hundred.
- 27:10Speaker 1: The towel for four hundred and ten? Is that a
- 27:13Speaker 1: full length tower or is that just a hand towel?
- 27:15Speaker 3: Well?
- 27:16Speaker 1: What makes this towel special? What does it do? I
- 27:18Speaker 1: don't know. It's just got at the top it says
- 27:21Speaker 1: tennis dot dot dot kit four hundred dollars dollar towel.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Hey, Lissey, I've penned this tower for four hundred others
- 27:30Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Wait, wait, wait, I've seen a detail on the short.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Have you virgin wool?
- 27:36Speaker 2: What does that mean? It was a virgin cheap?
- 27:40Speaker 1: I'm not sure.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Well, from a virgin.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Lamb lamb will that's cashmere, isn't it? Lamb? No idea?
- 27:49Speaker 2: But I can't get that. A cap for eighty four
- 27:53Speaker 2: hundred eighty five bucks around.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Spelt short nine O five the tennis polo Ellen, which
- 27:59Speaker 1: I assume is Ellen DeGeneres.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Why it's mean to you backstage?
- 28:04Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, it's giving Ellen, It is giving a little
- 28:11Speaker 1: bit of Ellen. I guess the collar, Yeah, i'd and
- 28:15Speaker 1: thirty five dollars. Maybe only people like Ellen can afford it.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe there's tennis spell short hot for nine hundred
- 28:21Speaker 2: five dollars. Lizzie, would you like to monolause from you?
- 28:25Speaker 2: I I'm by, I'm by, Lizzie. We hit the pickleball courts.
- 28:42Speaker 1: My gosh. We went to Top Court yesterday and it's
- 28:44Speaker 1: the time of our lives.
- 28:45Speaker 2: It's awesome up there. It really is.
- 28:47Speaker 1: If you want to break from the crowds too, it
- 28:49Speaker 1: wasn't that packed up there. It's like a pickleball court.
- 28:51Speaker 1: There was a DJH yeah, a lot of iced tea,
- 28:55Speaker 1: shake Shack and peach Melbourne. I haven't had one of
- 28:57Speaker 1: them yet.
- 28:58Speaker 2: No, All right, well this is it. This is us
- 29:01Speaker 2: seeking redemption after the one point slam on the pickleball court.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Yeah you want some of this.
- 29:07Speaker 2: We're sick of people talking trash about us.
- 29:09Speaker 1: It's time to get some respect back. Like after our
- 29:12Speaker 1: abject failure in the one point slam, we hit the
- 29:15Speaker 1: pickleball court to get revenge, this time on children.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Let's take on the best of the best.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Let's do this.
- 29:22Speaker 6: A message to all the kids out there, you are
- 29:25Speaker 6: nothing compared to us, Mike. After some truly sublime play,
- 29:34Speaker 6: reputations were restored, petty grievances were.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Addressed, but most importantly, children's dreams were shattered. Just bullying
- 29:46Speaker 2: kids all day. It was surprisingly cathartic.
- 29:52Speaker 1: No, okay, we are so back. Champagne shower anyone pingleball
- 30:04Speaker 1: champions twist the scraps that time? Yes, what a time?
- 30:16Speaker 1: I meant it was fun.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yeah, get up there, hit the pickleball court at the
- 30:22Speaker 2: top court at the Australian Open.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Uh.
- 30:26Speaker 2: And of course, as always, email us at Podlabor at
- 30:29Speaker 2: tennis dot com dot au. You saw us with a
- 30:32Speaker 2: bottle of piper Heid six celebrating the crushing defeatly implemented
- 30:36Speaker 2: on those kids our interview for today. It's unfortunate that
- 30:43Speaker 2: we had.
- 30:43Speaker 1: To play this so early.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because he was awesome.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Felix j Alia, what a name.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Welcome back to Pod Labor arena, part of the interview sessions.
- 30:58Speaker 2: We have tennis superstar Felix. Oh, thank you thanks for
- 31:05Speaker 2: having me. I just saw this Pod Labor Yeah, I
- 31:08Speaker 2: like it. That's good. Uh, Felix, I wanted to ask you,
- 31:12Speaker 2: how are you feeling. Do you have any goals for the.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I can answer, we don't want to know.
- 31:19Speaker 3: We talk, we want to win, we want to man.
- 31:24Speaker 2: So good to have you back at the Australian Open.
- 31:27Speaker 2: It's good to be back, yank you. You've been here
- 31:29Speaker 2: a bunch. What do you get amongst in Melbourne? Like,
- 31:31Speaker 2: what are you up to? Good food? Yeah, so I
- 31:36Speaker 2: need to give them a shout out. So I've been
- 31:37Speaker 2: going for the last few years to this restaurant called Belota.
- 31:40Speaker 2: It's two sisters that run a restaurant Nicky Nikitchen, South Melbourne.
- 31:46Speaker 2: So my sister discovered the restaurant a couple of years back,
- 31:48Speaker 2: and I've been going every year. And every year they
- 31:51Speaker 2: tell me like, we're not sure if you're gonna come back,
- 31:53Speaker 2: and then we see your name on the reservation and
- 31:54Speaker 2: we're like, your back.
- 31:56Speaker 3: So it's nice. It feels like like I'm meeting at home,
- 31:59Speaker 3: you know, like, yeah, it's very nice food and they
- 32:02Speaker 3: take care of their customers and and I love going back.
- 32:05Speaker 3: So whether it's there or somewhere else, you know, nice coffee.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Because home is Monaco. Now. I was born and raised
- 32:11Speaker 3: in Montreal. I moved to Monaco when I was nineteen. Yeah,
- 32:14Speaker 3: for my career and I've been there. Yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 2: My one time in Montreal I had horse on the menu.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Whoa, it's pretty good. How long ago with that? Because
- 32:22Speaker 3: I don't I don't see years ago.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Wow, that's something finn horse in Melbourne.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Kangaroo here one yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I was
- 32:33Speaker 3: like a junior here and it was my first time
- 32:35Speaker 3: and I guess I have to try it.
- 32:37Speaker 1: But since then haven't you didn't like it?
- 32:38Speaker 3: What do you think for Australians? Is it weird?
- 32:41Speaker 1: You can fly to the supermarket but I don't really,
- 32:44Speaker 1: I don't really eat.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Know, Australia is the only country that eats both animals
- 32:48Speaker 2: that are on the national and what's.
- 32:49Speaker 3: What I mean?
- 32:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's weird, little bit, It is a little bit.
- 32:55Speaker 2: When I was I was actually on a date in
- 32:57Speaker 2: Montreal with a vegan and I ordered horse.
- 33:00Speaker 3: I'm sure.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Well there's no second. Well, if you're in Melbourne getting
- 33:07Speaker 2: amongst the food, have you tried the fine delicacies of
- 33:10Speaker 2: Hungry Jacks?
- 33:11Speaker 3: Well, you know, I have not. I've seen the commercials,
- 33:15Speaker 3: but I'm not.
- 33:18Speaker 2: North American equivalent is Burger King.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess Burger King, but I mean Canadians tim horns.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Tim Horns is Timmy Horton. Yeah, you call it Timmy Horns.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I called it when I did.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Call t nice back in Canada.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just you know, some random questions to throw
- 33:40Speaker 2: at you, like any superstitions out on the court or
- 33:44Speaker 2: in general.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Not much actually no, but just not get a haircut
- 33:49Speaker 3: the tournament. Yeah. I did that once. I did that one.
- 33:52Speaker 3: It didn't work really, Yeah, I lost bad after the
- 33:56Speaker 3: player gave.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Himself a haircut mid match the other day. Say that, Yeah,
- 34:01Speaker 2: his scissors in the bag.
- 34:02Speaker 3: I know Andy Murray one time cut his hair in
- 34:04Speaker 3: the middle of the match because it's too long or something.
- 34:06Speaker 3: But I bet he, yeh wouldn't do that. I bet
- 34:07Speaker 3: he wishes like, I'm not going to get a haircut
- 34:10Speaker 3: now before the start, and it's going to stay like this.
- 34:13Speaker 3: It's going to get longer as the term. But yeah,
- 34:16Speaker 3: outside of that, No, I'm not eating the same food
- 34:19Speaker 3: every day. I'm not. I just have a routine. You
- 34:22Speaker 3: need to get ready at a certain time, and you
- 34:23Speaker 3: need to make sure that all your stuff is ready
- 34:25Speaker 3: before you go out on the court, and you're ready
- 34:27Speaker 3: to go. Do you listen to music not the same
- 34:30Speaker 3: song every time? I don't listen to I don't like lyrics,
- 34:34Speaker 3: so I'll put like a Sometimes it will be like
- 34:37Speaker 3: movie song, you know, to kind of get into yeah.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Or it might just be like a certain piano track
- 34:45Speaker 3: that like but a certain rhythm that gets you into
- 34:47Speaker 3: the mood of like competition. But I don't like to
- 34:50Speaker 3: listen to music with lyrics before it gets stuck in
- 34:53Speaker 3: your head and you're just change over.
- 34:54Speaker 2: What you listen to to get pumped up for this interview.
- 35:04Speaker 1: I feel like, if you didn't play tennis, what would
- 35:06Speaker 1: you do for a living?
- 35:07Speaker 3: Oh? I love what I do, so it's tough, you know,
- 35:10Speaker 3: when you find out one passion, like just like you
- 35:14Speaker 3: have that tunnel vision. But I do ask myself sometimes
- 35:18Speaker 3: what would I have done? I mean I look at
- 35:19Speaker 3: my sister or other people around me, you know, in
- 35:22Speaker 3: their twenties finding their way, and I don't know. I
- 35:25Speaker 3: have interest in many things, but I don't know if
- 35:28Speaker 3: I would have pushed it to a career. But like architecture,
- 35:30Speaker 3: for example, I find it, you know, fascinating to start
- 35:34Speaker 3: from scratch. And I had a teacher in school that
- 35:37Speaker 3: had a major architecture and we talked a little bit
- 35:39Speaker 3: and it was fascinating to start like from zero and
- 35:43Speaker 3: to imagine something out of your mind and to imagine
- 35:46Speaker 3: like the whether it's like you know, commercial buildings or
- 35:49Speaker 3: or house. But like for me to build a house
- 35:52Speaker 3: one day, it would be a dream, but I would
- 35:55Speaker 3: need to get into that. But could have been a career.
- 35:57Speaker 3: I don't know. Yeah, we'll never find out. We'll never
- 35:59Speaker 3: find out because I'll stick tonis well.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Because we're asking people random questions today. Uh, and I
- 36:06Speaker 2: want to ask you this because I want to tell
- 36:08Speaker 2: you the answer we got from gregor.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Tom Okay in the hallway.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Yeah, what's the most random thing you found in your
- 36:17Speaker 2: tennis bag?
- 36:20Speaker 3: My mind is going to food right away.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Oh really.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like that's going to be a pretty
- 36:27Speaker 3: common answer, common for tennis players because we I mean,
