- 0:00Have you ever wondered what it's like to take a pause for a moment in this life?
- 0:03Like stepping off the hamster wheel of everyday life?
- 0:07Hi, welcome to Couples Journey blog series podcast.
- 0:11We're diving in a new series this week entitled Stepping off the Hamster Wheel.
- 0:16Today, we explore how taking intentional breaks can renew your marriage and
- 0:21deepen your spiritual journey.
- 0:23Stay with us as we dive into the story of Martha and Mary, and learn why sometimes,
- 0:28doing less means gaining so much more. Here's part one.
- 0:33Before, we didn't really give much thought to adding a title to our blog series
- 0:37or consider throwing in some notes.
- 0:39But this week, we thought it would be fun to shake things up and actually focus on the title.
- 0:44We believe that by exploring it a bit more, we'll gain a better understanding of this week's series.
- 0:49The phrase, stepping off the hamster wheel, usually refers to taking a break
- 0:54from the repetitive, exhausting routines we often get caught up in.
- 0:58When it comes to marriage, it can symbolize a desire to step away from the constant
- 1:02cycle of daily responsibilities, conflicts, or habits that sometimes make the
- 1:07relationship feel dull or stressful.
- 1:09In this context, stepping off the hamster wheel might mean 1.
- 1:14Taking time to reconnect and focus on your relationship. 2.
- 1:19Breaking free from routines that lead to frustration. 3.
- 1:23Prioritizing personal or shared growth over the unchanging daily grind. 4.
- 1:29Rejuvenating emotional and physical intimacy that can get lost in routine life.
- 1:33Overall, it's about slowing down, reassessing, and intentionally investing in
- 1:39the relationship to prevent burnout and encourage renewal.
- 1:42There's a familiar Bible story that ties into this week's theme,
- 1:46the story of Martha and Mary, specifically the incident when Jesus visited them.
- 1:51Luke 10 verses 41 to 42 says, But the Lord answered and said to her,
- 1:57Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things.
- 2:02But only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part,
- 2:06which shall not be taken away from her.
- 2:09If you have time, I encourage you to read Luke 10 to get the full picture.
- 2:13The story of Martha and Mary is highlighted towards the end of the chapter, verses 38-42.
- 2:19But Jesus' words in verses 41-42 are such a powerful reminder for us today,
- 2:25especially when we're overwhelmed by busyness and the hurried pace of life.
- 2:30Martha was so anxious and busy preparing many things for Jesus.
- 2:33She was concerned with appearances and busy work, instead of focusing on what truly matters.
- 2:39We can see a similar tendency in our own lives and marriages,
- 2:43falling into the trap of believing that presentation is everything.
- 2:47Often at the expense of more meaningful connections.
- 2:50Mary's choice to listen to Jesus reminds us of the importance of spiritual nourishment
- 2:55and valuing the word over endless tasks.
- 2:58It's a beautiful example of prioritizing what's truly important.
- 3:02There's nothing more vital in this life than hearing from Jesus and learning from Him.
- 3:07Our focus should be on cultivating a spiritual connection, rather than getting
- 3:11caught up in life's chaos.
- 3:13Let us also hold on to Jesus' words in John 15 verse 5, Apart from me, you can do nothing.
- 3:20Remembering this truth keeps everything in perspective, especially during busy, hectic seasons.
- 3:28Before we close, we want to invite you to engage with us and support the Couples
