2:30
Speaker 3: zero zero eight want to go to Rob Reel now
2:33
Speaker 3: from her sister station ninety six one KWS, hopefully only
2:37
Speaker 3: one day and a half out from completing this herculean
2:41
Speaker 3: task of walking from Charleston to Morgantown for WVU Children's
2:44
Speaker 3: Hospital to deliver that big old check that you the
2:47
Speaker 3: listeners of the stations of WVRC Media helped make possible
2:50
Speaker 3: through your donations. Rob, Good morning buddy today and half
2:54
Speaker 3: of tomorrow. What was that?
2:57
Speaker 6: What hercules circle from the nutty professor?
3:01
Speaker 3: Ah got you? I wasn't expecting the early don Knotts
3:05
Speaker 3: reference this morning.
3:06
Speaker 6: Here, So you know, Percillian's a big word for you.
3:10
Speaker 3: It is, it is. I just says strong, normally strong.
3:13
Speaker 3: He's strong. But it was a big old task that
3:16
Speaker 3: you took on. And you, I mean, what about a
3:18
Speaker 3: day and a half you should have this thing knocked out.
3:20
Speaker 6: Bud, Yes, sir, I started out with twenty four miles
3:25
Speaker 6: to go this morning. I got a little extra in
3:27
Speaker 6: yesterday Mount and Mama was being good to me. I
3:30
Speaker 6: was feeling good. I made it all the way to
3:31
Speaker 6: the edge of Fairmont and spent National Cat Day at
3:36
Speaker 6: the Marion County Humane Society. Spent about an hour in
3:38
Speaker 6: the cat room just hanging out and getting some critter therapy.
3:42
Speaker 6: And I'm all charged up moving through Fairmont. Now I've
3:45
Speaker 6: passed campus, and I won't get it all done today,
3:48
Speaker 6: There's no way. But I'll get to the edge of
3:50
Speaker 6: Morgantown and be ready to finish up tomorrow morning as
3:53
Speaker 6: well tomorrow midday.
3:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'll tell you again, I've said this every
3:57
Speaker 3: day that we've had you on the air. You have
3:59
Speaker 3: just been blessed, my friend, because anytime that you're dealing
4:02
Speaker 3: with October, and I can recall Halloween nights. You know,
4:05
Speaker 3: over the years, there's been snow, there's been rain, there's
4:08
Speaker 3: been cold weather. You have had absolutely if anything, you
4:11
Speaker 3: may be a little too warm today, Rob.
4:16
Speaker 6: You know, a dressing in layers has been the key.
4:18
Speaker 6: And you know it's been winter in the early morning, spring,
4:22
Speaker 6: in the midday, summer, in the afternoon, fall in the evening.
4:26
Speaker 6: A lot more leaves are down in the north central
4:28
Speaker 6: part of the state than we're in Charleston the last
4:31
Speaker 6: time I was there. So folks who are around the
4:34
Speaker 6: capital city, make sure you are enjoying things. And I
4:38
Speaker 6: do have to go quickly, and just for fun, I
4:41
Speaker 6: took the remote gear downstairs and actually did part of
4:44
Speaker 6: my show up real early from the breakfast portion of
4:48
Speaker 6: the hotel, and just just to get some interesting looks
4:52
Speaker 6: for some folks as if they had never seen the
4:54
Speaker 6: live radio broadcast happening before. So it's got a good
4:59
Speaker 6: night's rest and I think we're going to get this done.
5:02
Speaker 3: And so what's your eta for late tomorrow afternoon.
5:06
Speaker 6: We're aiming for one o'clock tomorrow, So in word for
5:11
Speaker 6: that to happen, I need to knock out about seventeen
5:13
Speaker 6: or eighteen miles today so that I could make for
5:16
Speaker 6: a super short day tomorrow and hit one o'clock. But
5:19
Speaker 6: I think that's when the Halloween shenanigans are happening for
5:22
Speaker 6: the youngsters at WVU Medicine Children's and I will be
5:25
Speaker 6: in costume ready to be a part of that.
5:27
Speaker 3: I mean, like a different costume what you normally have on.
5:32
Speaker 6: Yeah, I will not be dressed as a Slovenly DJ.
5:37
Speaker 7: No, I.
5:39
Speaker 6: Have a stupendom costume ready to go. And yes there
5:43
Speaker 6: is a hint in that sense.
5:44
Speaker 3: I don't know how you have energy, buddy, to do
5:46
Speaker 3: anything other because I mean you've been walking on average
5:48
Speaker 3: of twenty miles a day to get that check of
5:51
Speaker 3: the WVU Children's Hospital. So hats off to you for that,
5:54
Speaker 3: and as I said, every day as well. If you're
5:56
Speaker 3: not following Rob a Long on the Facebook pages of
5:59
Speaker 3: social mediainety six one kws, make sure that you do,
6:02
Speaker 3: because Rob has just been taking some absolutely beautiful picture
6:05
Speaker 3: beautiful pictures of the cats yesterday for National Cat Day
6:07
Speaker 3: when you got to stop by the animal shelter there
6:10
Speaker 3: as well. We'll talk to you tomorrow. I guess for
6:13
Speaker 3: the final day, and then we're gonna give you some
6:16
Speaker 3: time to rest up, and then one day next week,
6:18
Speaker 3: maybe after even after we get through the election. By
6:21
Speaker 3: the way, there's an election next week. I don't know
6:22
Speaker 3: whether you knew anything about that.
6:23
Speaker 6: I've heard this. Wilson Progress was his middle name.
6:27
Speaker 3: So we will. I want to have you in studio
6:30
Speaker 3: too after you with your feet propped up in here,
6:33
Speaker 3: probably still you know, soaking an abb some salt or something,
6:35
Speaker 3: so I can I can kind of get a rundown
6:38
Speaker 3: of how everything went overall. But to be safe out there, man,
6:40
Speaker 3: We'll be following along on the social media pages and
6:43
Speaker 3: the website and whatnot. Rob will talk to you again tomorrow, man.
6:45
Speaker 3: Thanks a lot, Thank you, sir, Rob Real from our
6:49
Speaker 3: sister station ninety six to one KWS again that walk
6:52
Speaker 3: he is on from Charleston. He left our studios here
6:55
Speaker 3: to eleven eleven and is headed to Morgantown. And he
6:58
Speaker 3: has got this thing fingers cross, knock on the proverbial wood.
7:01
Speaker 3: He's got this thing knocked out, and we are very
7:04
Speaker 3: very proud of what he's done. He should arrive at
7:06
Speaker 3: WU Children's Hospital in Morgantown. They say around one o'clock
7:10
Speaker 3: or so tomorrow afternoon, and then he's probably not going
7:13
Speaker 3: to walk ever again after this. He lives actually not
7:17
Speaker 3: far from the station, I mean within walking distance, and
7:19
Speaker 3: so I have a feeling he's going to get somebody
7:21
Speaker 3: an interurn or something to go get him into wheeling
7:24
Speaker 3: to the station every day. I can't see. I believe it.
7:27
Speaker 3: You know, older adults should protect themselves against severe respiratory disease.
7:30
Speaker 3: Talk to your doctor about flu, COVID nineteen and RSV,
7:33
Speaker 3: vaccines risk less do Morgan started at vaccines dot gov.
7:37
Speaker 3: That's vaccines dot gov, paid for by the US Barbenom,
7:40
Speaker 3: Health and Human Services, Biguli, Pigli Wiggley Hotline three zero
7:44
Speaker 3: four three four five fifty eight fifty eight. Tony the
7:46
Speaker 3: Taylor Text three zero four nine three five five zero
7:49
Speaker 3: zero A. John Mitchell, who is a candidate for Prosecuting
7:52
Speaker 3: Attorney Kanaw County, due to join us a little bit
7:54
Speaker 3: later on. Also Tristan eleven, who's a candidate for House
7:57
Speaker 3: here in West Virginia, will join us when we'll get
7:59
Speaker 3: into some debate talk and some other things in the
8:01
Speaker 3: news coming up a little bit later on as well.
8:04
Speaker 3: Doctor Casey Sacks from Bridge Valley. I believe is with
8:07
Speaker 3: us right now. Doctor Sachs.
8:08
Speaker 8: Are you there, Good morning, Dave.
8:11
Speaker 9: How are you to day.
8:11
Speaker 3: I'm doing fine. I'm doing fine because unlike Rob Real,
8:15
Speaker 3: I'm not walking from Charleston to Morgantown. I know that
8:17
Speaker 3: you are. You know you're into the outdoors and everything
8:20
Speaker 3: like that. You're a Colorado native who got to West
8:23
Speaker 3: Virginia as quickly as you could. That's a long walk, though,
8:26
Speaker 3: doctor Sachs.
8:27
Speaker 9: It is a long walk, but good for him for
8:29
Speaker 9: doing it.
8:30
Speaker 8: Yeah.
8:30
Speaker 3: Absolutely, a couple of things going on a Bridge Valley.
8:33
Speaker 3: You recently had a family fun Night and a great
8:35
Speaker 3: golf tournament. Tell me about those.
8:37
Speaker 9: Oh, both were such wonderful events. Thank you so much
8:40
Speaker 9: to our whole community for making them so fun. Nine
8:43
Speaker 9: hundred kids brought their parents out for family Fun Night
8:46
Speaker 9: and it was in partnership with WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals,
8:49
Speaker 9: So we all set up cars and they did a
8:51
Speaker 9: trunk or treat and we had a hot house. It
8:53
Speaker 9: was a lot of fun. And the golf tournament too.
8:56
Speaker 9: We had fifteen teams and a terrific turnout and some
8:59
Speaker 9: really wonderful support, we gave away incredible prizes, so all
9:03
Speaker 9: of it has just been it's.
9:04
Speaker 3: Been a fun month talking to doctor Casey Sachs Abridge
9:07
Speaker 3: Valley and I understand now you're doing a purse raffle,
9:11
Speaker 3: and I hope my wife isn't listening to this.
9:13
Speaker 9: We are, and I do hope your wife is listening
9:15
Speaker 9: to this. So November fifteenth, we're doing a purse raffle.
9:19
Speaker 9: We've got our raffle license from the state, and we're
9:22
Speaker 9: super excited. We've gotten some incredible donations. If Louis Vaiton
9:25
Speaker 9: is your thing or Tory Burch is your thing, we
9:28
Speaker 9: have several purses in this purse raffle. It should be
9:30
Speaker 9: a really fun night.
9:32
Speaker 3: Indeed, And again that's November the fifteenth. Is that what
9:34
Speaker 3: you said?
9:35
Speaker 9: That's right?
9:36
Speaker 3: All right, tell me a little bit more about this
9:38
Speaker 3: win Academy. I was in a meeting one day last
9:40
Speaker 3: week and it was just a kind of a random
9:44
Speaker 3: business thing that just kind of popped up, and I
9:46
Speaker 3: heard several people talking about this win Academy. Now, you've
9:50
Speaker 3: talked about it on the show in the past, but
9:51
Speaker 3: obviously the word is getting out there. Explain what this explained?
9:55
Speaker 3: The Win Academy.
9:56
Speaker 10: So the Win.
9:57
Speaker 9: Academy is a public high school for students who are
9:59
Speaker 9: in a eleventh and twelfth grade who were interested in
10:02
Speaker 9: going into the workforce. So we started out with nursing,
10:05
Speaker 9: we expanded into advanced manufacturing, and it's for students who
10:09
Speaker 9: are really ready to be on a career pathway and
10:11
Speaker 9: who want that work based learning that you know we
10:13
Speaker 9: provide so great here at Bridge Valley. And they get
10:16
Speaker 9: to do clinicals and nursing, they get to draw blood
10:19
Speaker 9: and flebotomy. They're outworking with our manufacturers and the idea
10:23
Speaker 9: is really to help site high school students accelerate into
10:26
Speaker 9: the workforce. So it's totally free to families, and it's
10:30
Speaker 9: what they do for high school.
10:32
Speaker 3: I mean it's awesome. I mean, it really really is.
10:34
Speaker 3: And I got to, as I said I've said in
10:36
Speaker 3: on a meeting last week and got to hear some
10:37
Speaker 3: more about that from people outside Bridge Valley, and that's
10:40
Speaker 3: always good when outside people are talking about it as well.
10:43
Speaker 3: I'll understand as well that you're doing some hazmat training
10:47
Speaker 3: for current linemen and for your CDL license students.
10:51
Speaker 9: We are, so a colleague in another state got a
10:55
Speaker 9: grant to be able to provide some free hazmat training,
10:58
Speaker 9: and he called and said would you want this at
11:00
Speaker 9: Bridge Valley, and our dean for our programs that are
11:03
Speaker 9: in CDL and Linemen said yeah, absolutely, that'd be a
11:06
Speaker 9: great benefit to some of our current students. So they
11:09
Speaker 9: came in and went ahead and did hasmat training for
11:11
Speaker 9: those groups of students. And it's just one of those
11:14
Speaker 9: benefits that you get from being a student here is
11:16
Speaker 9: that when we can find other opportunities to augment learning,
11:20
Speaker 9: we really try and jump on it because what a
11:22
Speaker 9: cool extra certification for people to have.
11:25
Speaker 3: Indeed it is. And finally we'll leave with this. You're
11:27
Speaker 3: doing a series of open houses at Bridge Valley talk.
11:30
Speaker 9: About that we are, so we really like to give
11:33
Speaker 9: the community an opportunity to come see us. Sometimes that
11:36
Speaker 9: helps folks feel more comfortable coming to campus. You may
11:39
Speaker 9: have been a student years ago and have some college
11:41
Speaker 9: and maybe no degree and you're ready to come back.
11:44
Speaker 9: That's a lot of who our students are here at
11:46
Speaker 9: Bridge Valley and so we have open houses the thirteenth
11:49
Speaker 9: to the twentieth and the twenty first of November to
11:52
Speaker 9: just intentionally give tours and connect people to the community
11:55
Speaker 9: and say come back, come back to school and sign
11:57
Speaker 9: up for spring classes.
11:59
Speaker 3: Indeed, give us the website for more about Bridge Valley.
12:02
Speaker 9: It's Bridge Valley dot edu.
12:04
Speaker 3: All right, doctor Sachs, I know you're very busy. I'll
12:06
Speaker 3: let you get back to it. We will talk again soon.
12:08
Speaker 3: Thanks a lot for joining us this morning.
12:10
Speaker 9: Have a great day day.
12:11
Speaker 3: Thank you you as well. It's nine nineteen big Leypiggli

12:49

Speaker 3: Kanaw County, John Mitchell, John and more, Welcome to the show.
17:01
Speaker 8: Great to be back. Thank you for having me.
17:03
Speaker 3: Thank you for joining us in our new home here.
17:05
Speaker 8: Yeah, it's cozy. I think I think I'll be able
17:08
Speaker 8: to just find for the next couple of months, and.
17:09
Speaker 3: For the next couple of months, that's what they say.
17:11
Speaker 3: Then we move into the big studio that they're working
17:14
Speaker 3: on right now. How's a campaign for prosecuting the attorneyment
17:16
Speaker 3: so far?
17:17
Speaker 8: Well, I know if you read front page of the gazette,
17:19
Speaker 8: it's a it's a money game. It seems like I
17:23
Speaker 8: don't know if you noticed, but my opponent has already
17:25
Speaker 8: raised over two hundred thousand dollars to be the prosecuting
17:28
Speaker 8: attorney of Canac County. I'm pleased. I've done everything I
17:34
Speaker 8: set out to do. I wanted to run a forty
17:36
Speaker 8: thousand dollars budget. We got that, We've got there, we
17:39
Speaker 8: got the name, our word out. Quite frankly, I'm going
17:41
Speaker 8: to do your show this morning. I'm going to vote
17:43
Speaker 8: this afternoon. As far as I'm concerned, I'm gone with
17:47
Speaker 8: the campaigning part of it. We'll sit back. I've got
17:49
Speaker 8: some obligations with the kids, and with the office and
17:51
Speaker 8: with the church. But I'm ready for next Tuesday and
17:55
Speaker 8: let's see how this shapes out. And I can't help
17:59
Speaker 8: it to be optimistic only because of the number of
18:00
Speaker 8: people keep coming up to me and encouraging me, and
18:03
Speaker 8: the number of people that really steps up the plate
18:05
Speaker 8: to help me on this campaign. I've been very gratified
18:09
Speaker 8: by the whole experience.
18:11
Speaker 3: So why do you want to be prosecutor in Kenan County?
18:13
Speaker 3: John Well, I think I answered that question for you
18:15
Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago. I had the forty years
18:18
Speaker 3: of experience, both as assistant prosecutor and in my state
18:22
Speaker 3: centered experiences and in my private practice.
18:24
Speaker 8: All these years, I can't think of a better way
18:28
Speaker 8: to contribute and give back to the county using one
18:31
Speaker 8: attributes and skills. I have better than to be prosecuting attorney.
18:35
Speaker 8: And I've got some real, real strong convictions about crime
18:39
Speaker 8: and punishment. For that matter, there's a real contrast between
18:41
Speaker 8: mine and my opponent and what we have in terms
18:44
Speaker 8: of the vision of running that office and taking all
18:48
Speaker 8: these responsibilities. And in that regard, I think I've given
18:51
Speaker 8: the voters out there a contrast, and they really do
18:55
Speaker 8: have a choice going on here.
18:56
Speaker 3: To talk about the contrast between you and your opponent.
18:58
Speaker 8: Deb Bruthers Nick, Well, she has these you know, one
19:01
Speaker 8: size fits all everybody.
19:02
Speaker 3: She locked up, high.
19:03
Speaker 8: Bonds, new mental health evaluations. She's very proud. I'm not
19:09
Speaker 8: anti Deba. I don't get me wrong. Her ideology I
19:12
Speaker 8: disagree with. Okay, she can't a number of years of
19:14
Speaker 8: judges putting in prison as being a girl scalp pen
19:19
Speaker 8: or something. I'm probably believe that Pruscan Attorney has controlled
19:23
Speaker 8: a very criminal case that comes through the loop, and
19:26
Speaker 8: there's a lot of stuff you can do without having
19:27
Speaker 8: to hammer them and put them away in printitentiaries. And
19:30
Speaker 8: don't get me wrong, there's a lot of people that
19:32
Speaker 8: need to be locked up. I'm sure him there's there's
19:34
Speaker 8: a real criminal element out there. But so much of
19:36
Speaker 8: our issues and problems and crime are generated by mental
19:40
Speaker 8: health issues and or drug addictions, and so many young
19:43
Speaker 8: people that if we can grasp and hold it over
19:44
Speaker 8: their heads, so to speak, get them channeled in the
19:46
Speaker 8: right direction, we can do some really positive things with them.
19:50
Speaker 8: In a negative scenario. I love it of the one
19:52
Speaker 8: silly youth twice silly me, but in a very elaborate,
19:55
Speaker 8: concise programs that which we started to see in the
19:59
Speaker 8: Day Reports Center, in the in the drug courts, and
20:02
Speaker 8: and that that type of optic I.
20:04
Speaker 3: Want to talk about the day Reports Centers and the
20:06
Speaker 3: and the and the of drug courts because this has
20:09
Speaker 3: been a program that's gone on in Canawl County, but
20:11
Speaker 3: it's also gone on all across the state and all
20:12
Speaker 3: across the nation. You a big proponent of those.
20:15
Speaker 8: I was, In fact, I was in the Senate when
20:17
Speaker 8: the first one got started up in Wheeling years ago,
20:19
Speaker 8: the Drug Court. I was a big fan of uh
20:22
Speaker 8: Will Thomas, United States Attorney now he was he was
20:25
Speaker 8: heating along with Jennifer Barely here in Kennall County. We're
20:29
Speaker 8: instrumental and really getting that program done locally, and we
20:32
Speaker 8: said it seems to make good results. So many, so
20:35
Speaker 8: many good people just get behind that that drug loop
20:39
Speaker 8: or or that abandon loop, or so many environmentals scenarios,
20:45
Speaker 8: and and and that contribute to this one. In fact,
20:48
Speaker 8: that we could just give them the right leg up,
20:49
Speaker 8: the right monitoring.
20:51
Speaker 7: Uh.
20:51
Speaker 8: It's not a short fix, it's a long term fix.
20:54
Speaker 8: Otherwise we're gonna have to give up on a whole
20:55
Speaker 8: generation of our society.
20:58
Speaker 3: Talking to John Mitchell again, who is a candidate for
21:01
Speaker 3: prosecuting attorney here in Kanal County. But Dave Allen Show
21:03
Speaker 3: and five eighty line brought to you in part by
21:05
Speaker 3: Hustin's Pizza. This month's your favorite Hustin's. Get a large
21:07
Speaker 3: at Nitch Pepperoni pizza and an eight inch chocolate chip
21:10
Speaker 3: cookie only twenty three ninety nine. As you've been out
21:12
Speaker 3: on the campaign trail, what have you heard from people?
21:15
Speaker 3: What do you hear from if you're knocking on doors
21:16
Speaker 3: or waving science or the candidate's form, whatever, What do
21:19
Speaker 3: people come up to John Mitchell and say.
21:21
Speaker 8: Is completely different than when I was a center? Most
21:24
Speaker 8: first question always is what does a prosecuting attorney did it?
21:27
Speaker 8: Nobody understands the office. He's never been exposed it politically
21:31
Speaker 8: like it has been. This has been the most expensive
21:34
Speaker 8: prosecuting attorney's race in the history of the state of Westervirginia.
21:36
Speaker 3: I mean, even going back to the primary was in
21:39
Speaker 3: that race, it was pretty extensive. And now we've added
21:41
Speaker 3: on to it.
21:42
Speaker 4: Yeah.
21:42
Speaker 8: Yeah, And the second question, of course, is quite frankly,
21:48
Speaker 8: describing a man my opponent. It's been naming recognition, name recognition,
21:52
Speaker 8: name recognition, but it's not been really a whole lot
21:54
Speaker 8: of getting down to the brass tactics of work, what
21:58
Speaker 8: we truly stand for, the hardcore question, because people just
22:03
Speaker 8: don't ever get pass the grasp of what the prosecutors
22:05
Speaker 8: actually do it.
22:06
Speaker 3: All right, I'm gonna give you another opportunity again to explain,
22:09
Speaker 3: explain the role of the prosecuting attorney, because I think
22:12
Speaker 3: there's a lot of people, and I've talked about this
22:15
Speaker 3: when you were on the show before, John, a lot
22:17
Speaker 3: of people when they look at those offices, either that
22:20
Speaker 3: or a magistrate or whatever, they have an idea of
22:22
Speaker 3: what it is, but they may not really know exactly
22:25
Speaker 3: what it is. So give me the elevator, give me
22:27
Speaker 3: to the synopsis, the job description. What exactly does the
22:31
Speaker 3: prosecuting attorney did?
22:32
Speaker 14: Well?
22:32
Speaker 8: He is the attorney for the State of West Virginia.
22:35
Speaker 8: And the most vital role, of course, is anytime a
22:38
Speaker 8: crime is committed, he is the one that's bringing the
22:41
Speaker 8: charges forward. He's the one that presents it to the court.
22:43
Speaker 8: He is the one that takes the role as representing
22:46
Speaker 8: the interests of the State of West Virginia in this
22:48
Speaker 8: case getting a conviction. It really is that simple. The
22:55
Speaker 8: problem is is but you also have to remember, but
22:57
Speaker 8: he's also the he or she I should say it
23:00
Speaker 8: is the chief law enforcement offsters for the state of
23:02
Speaker 8: West Virginia or or for their county. Uh. Technically they
23:07
Speaker 8: the bucks stops there. But again you don't see that
23:11
Speaker 8: very often. It's it's not what you read about. But
23:16
Speaker 8: unfortunately the perception is what you see on TV. And
23:20
Speaker 8: and it's a there's a much more of a executive
23:25
Speaker 8: aspect to it. You have a lot of employees, a
23:27
Speaker 8: lot of different responsibilities within prosecutor's office. Gives me on crime,
23:30
Speaker 8: you've got child abuse cases for example, and and and
23:34
Speaker 8: uh uh collections issues and and and and mental health
23:39
Speaker 8: issues and mental hygiene issues and guardianship issues. It's a
23:44
Speaker 8: broad best press scenario. But what you read about is
23:47
Speaker 8: the big criminal case.
23:48
Speaker 3: Right, and and in Kanawha County, UH being the obviously
23:53
Speaker 3: the largest county in the state and the seat of
23:54
Speaker 3: the seat of state government, there's a lot of focus
23:58
Speaker 3: on the prosecuting attorney there to be in the news
24:00
Speaker 3: a lot. You're going to see them on television here,
24:02
Speaker 3: them on our stations as well. So because again it
24:04
Speaker 3: just comes with the territory. Are you prepared for all that.
24:08
Speaker 8: Well, I've been doing that all my life. I've not
24:10
Speaker 8: at least been intimidated by that aspect of it. I'm
24:13
Speaker 8: not worried about the publicity of it, quite frankly, and
24:15
Speaker 8: I don't worry too much about having a microphone stuck
24:18
Speaker 8: in from my face. What I am concerned about is
24:20
Speaker 8: that we have conscientious, sincere, common sense afflication of that position.
24:27
Speaker 3: We had a text question here that I'm going to
24:30
Speaker 3: go and throw out you if you don't care. A
24:32
Speaker 3: text says, can you ask the prosecutor or candidate what
24:35
Speaker 3: he would plan to do with these violent offenders who
24:37
Speaker 3: are chronic offenders, sometimes six twelve or more arrest for
24:40
Speaker 3: hurting people. They do a few days in jail for
24:43
Speaker 3: attacking someone, then they're back on the streets. Of Charleston,
24:45
Speaker 3: a ticking time bomb before they hurt someone else, Should
24:48
Speaker 3: they be in prison long term or given more cushy breaks.
24:51
Speaker 8: Well, First of all, no prosecutor in the history of
24:54
Speaker 8: practice of laws ever sentenced anybody to jail. That's the
24:58
Speaker 8: judge's responsibilities.
25:01
Speaker 3: Again, that goes back to that. Sometimes people just don't
25:03
Speaker 3: understand what the prosecuting attorney does.
25:05
Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't understand why my pun and prize herself
25:07
Speaker 8: in a number of years, people have gotten sentence. You
25:09
Speaker 8: never sends anybody to jail in their life. They are prosecutor.
25:12
Speaker 8: That's a judges function. Bail bonds are determined by judges
25:16
Speaker 8: and magistrates, now by prosecutors. Quite frankly, and I've told
25:20
Speaker 8: you I said here today, there are certain people out
25:22
Speaker 8: there that, quite frankly, the need to be incarcerated, locked
25:25
Speaker 8: up and put away for life, taking it completely out
25:27
Speaker 8: of the mainstream of society. They're not redeemable, they're not
25:31
Speaker 8: going to change their ways. In fact, that it's the
25:33
Speaker 8: criminal mind. There is a good versus evil scenario out there,
25:37
Speaker 8: these people who's long term hardcore records here in Kannall County.
25:42
Speaker 8: I think it's very rare that you actually see them
25:44
Speaker 8: getting out as often as you might perceive, and if
25:47
Speaker 8: they are, they're almost invariably on home confinement.
25:50
Speaker 3: Okay, working for people learn more about your campaign the website,
25:54
Speaker 3: social media.
25:56
Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, I mean that. It's basically you've heard me.
25:59
Speaker 8: I don't have any magic one or magic potion on
26:02
Speaker 8: writing down there is if you think you want somebody
26:05
Speaker 8: with forty years of prime experience and since really wants
26:08
Speaker 8: to do a darn good job at Makeannall County a
26:10
Speaker 8: little bit better place, I'm your man.
26:12
Speaker 3: All right, give me thirty seconds. You kind of did
26:15
Speaker 3: a little bit there, but I always like to give
26:16
Speaker 3: my political candidates. I call it the final thirty on time.
26:20
Speaker 3: Give me thirty seconds or so? Why are you a
26:23
Speaker 3: better choice for prosecuting Attorney of Kenawh County? John, I.
26:28
Speaker 8: Think I'm done. I think I've already said it. I'm
26:32
Speaker 8: not a campaigner. I'm not going to sell myself. If
26:35
Speaker 8: the people out there don't know by now who I
26:37
Speaker 8: am and what I stand for, it's over. I mean
26:41
Speaker 8: it's time to vote now, folks.
26:43
Speaker 3: All right, And of course early voting continues this week
26:45
Speaker 3: through Saturday, and then take a couple of days off

30:36
Speaker 3: a couple more House candidates, one a Republican, one a Democrat,
30:39
Speaker 3: but they're not facing each other. Sarah Drennan will be
30:41
Speaker 3: here on the show tomorrow, she being the Republican, as
30:44
Speaker 3: well as Linda Body. Also on tomorrows show for the
30:47
Speaker 3: final time, we check it in with Rob Reel from
30:50
Speaker 3: ninety six to one KWS and see if he can
30:51
Speaker 3: indeed make that trip to Morgantown from Charleston. Heard from
30:55
Speaker 3: Rob earlier on the show, He's planning on being at
30:57
Speaker 3: WVU Children's about one o'clock tomorrow afternoon. That is coming
31:01
Speaker 3: up on tomorrow's show. I want to bring in Tristan
31:02
Speaker 3: Levit now Republican running for House in District fifty three.
31:05
Speaker 3: Is that right, sir? That's right, Good morning, Welcome to
31:08
Speaker 3: the show, Welcome back to us. Explain what that district is, sir.
31:10
Speaker 17: So it runs from Eden's Fork, Meek Shoals area all
31:14
Speaker 17: the way out to north of Montgomery Pond Gap and
31:16
Speaker 17: so just everything north of sixty for a long strip there.
31:21
Speaker 3: So why do you want to do this? Why do
31:22
Speaker 3: you want to represent that district?
31:24
Speaker 17: It's a really unique time for West Virginia right now.
31:26
Speaker 17: I think there's a real opportunity and there's also some
31:28
Speaker 17: potential pitfalls. So it's a critical time and there are
31:33
Speaker 17: a lot of financial obligations the state has, but there's
31:35
Speaker 17: a lot of opportunities to bring more people here to
31:37
Speaker 17: the state, and so I think it just requires someone
31:39
Speaker 17: that has you know, I think all of our legislators
31:41
Speaker 17: should be thoughtful, but I think this is an opportunity
31:44
Speaker 17: to try and apply my experience at policymaking working as
31:47
Speaker 17: a staffer in Congress to try and help in this
31:50
Speaker 17: legislative process get across the finish line the things that
31:53
Speaker 17: are going to help benefit certainly all of West Virginia,
31:55
Speaker 17: but particularly eastern Kannak County.
31:57
Speaker 3: I want to talk about your experience, and you talked
32:01
Speaker 3: about some of the things last time you were on
32:02
Speaker 3: the show that you've done, but give us the bio
32:04
Speaker 3: again on you. If you want to talk personal, that's fine,
32:07
Speaker 3: but I also want to talk professional. Give us some
32:08
Speaker 3: of your experience. Anything you want to throw out there
32:10
Speaker 3: about Tristan Levin sure. Well.
32:13
Speaker 17: I'm a person of faith, I'm a husband, I'm a
32:14
Speaker 17: father of five kids. I have kids at Roughner Elementary,
32:17
Speaker 17: Horseman Middle School, Charleston Montesssori, and Capitol High School. And
32:22
Speaker 17: I am a lawyer by background. So my first job
32:26
Speaker 17: out of college was working in the House of Representatives
32:29
Speaker 17: as a staffer, and then during law school I came
32:31
Speaker 17: here and worked for a time for Steptoe and Johnson
32:33
Speaker 17: in the summer, but I ended up after that being
32:35
Speaker 17: hired to work for the Senate Judiciary Committee with Chuck Grassley,
32:39
Speaker 17: and I did congressional investigations. So for eight years, my
32:43
Speaker 17: whole job was to find problems in the federal government
32:45
Speaker 17: and then work with lawmakers to craft laws that could
32:47
Speaker 17: help address those problems. After that, I led two federal
32:50
Speaker 17: agencies in both of the last two administrations, and then
32:54
Speaker 17: was nominated by President Biden actually to be the Republican
32:58
Speaker 17: on a board that hears federal employe appeals, and that
33:00
Speaker 17: allowed me to move here because I could do it remotely.
33:03
Speaker 17: Now I lead a nonprofit called them Power Oversite, where
33:05
Speaker 17: I help represent whistleblowers in the federal government.
33:07
Speaker 3: So what is it about this area? You said you
33:10
Speaker 3: moved to West Virginia. What is it about West Virginia
33:12
Speaker 3: that appealed to you?
33:13
Speaker 17: So my wife grew up in Charleston, and I've loved
33:15
Speaker 17: it from the time that I first came here in
33:17
Speaker 17: two thousand and five. It's a beautiful area I grew
33:19
Speaker 17: up in Idaho. There's a lot more trees here than
33:21
Speaker 17: there are in Idaho, I will say, but they have
33:22
Speaker 17: very similar outdoor vibes, a lot of great outdoor stuff,
33:25
Speaker 17: and the people here are amazing. People are just hardworking, honest,
33:28
Speaker 17: down to earth people, and especially living in the Washington,
33:31
Speaker 17: DC area for quite some time, it's just such a
33:33
Speaker 17: great contrast. So we were thrilled to be able to
33:35
Speaker 17: take our kids out of that really high stress environment
33:37
Speaker 17: come to just a place where they could have normal life,
33:39
Speaker 17: the normal upbringing that we had growing up my wife
33:41
Speaker 17: here in Charleston and me and Idaho and in coming here.
33:44
Speaker 17: You know, there's a lot of challenges that we saw,
33:46
Speaker 17: but there's it's also just a really wonderful place to
33:48
Speaker 17: raise a family. And so I want to help bring
33:50
Speaker 17: more people here to have that kind of experience.
33:52
Speaker 3: That was going to be the next thing I was
33:53
Speaker 3: going to bring up to you, trist again, we're talking
33:55
Speaker 3: Trists and Levit, who's a Republican running for the House
33:58
Speaker 3: in District fifty three. How do we get more Tristans
34:00
Speaker 3: to come here? And what I mean by that is
34:02
Speaker 3: people that choose's two parts of this. It always is
34:05
Speaker 3: people who choose to move to West Virginia or those
34:08
Speaker 3: that are a little younger that want to stay in
34:11
Speaker 3: West Virginia. How do we sell West Virginia to younger
34:14
Speaker 3: people because that's what we need. Yeah.
34:16
Speaker 17: Absolutely, So jobs, high paying jobs are obviously the first
34:19
Speaker 17: thing that you have to touch on in this conversation.
34:21
Speaker 17: You talk to kids that are graduating, they don't think
34:23
Speaker 17: that they're opportunities for jobs. At the same time, there's
34:25
Speaker 17: something like at least thirty thousand job vacancies in the state.
34:29
Speaker 17: So part of that is helping to train our upcoming
34:32
Speaker 17: generation with the skills that they would need and also
34:34
Speaker 17: help them understand the job openings that there are. But
34:37
Speaker 17: bringing other people here the number one. You know, my
34:39
Speaker 17: focus again has been on job bringing jobs in here.
34:42
Speaker 17: The way that jobs are going to come here is
34:44
Speaker 17: people need to see some changes and that includes in
34:47
Speaker 17: our school system. So you know, you see new core,
34:50
Speaker 17: you see these announcements, but then people look at the
34:52
Speaker 17: schools and it's hard for them to fill some of
34:53
Speaker 17: those positions when they see where we're at. So I
34:55
Speaker 17: think the combination of things that are being done, like
34:58
Speaker 17: tax cuts, things like Cope Skull, those are That's one
35:01
Speaker 17: particular profile of state. Not everyone loves that, but that
35:04
Speaker 17: is a profile of state that appeals to certain people.
35:05
Speaker 3: They say this is the place I could go.
35:07
Speaker 17: And I talk to people from across the country that say,
35:08
Speaker 17: oh yeah, West Virginia is a leader in these things.
35:10
Speaker 17: I've thought about moving there to get those people, to
35:13
Speaker 17: get them across the finish line. We've got to do
35:14
Speaker 17: more for our school systems to improve where we stand there.
35:17
Speaker 17: But as we have the jobs here, as you have
35:18
Speaker 17: the good schools, those are the kinds of things that
35:20
Speaker 17: build up communities and encourage people that this is a
35:22
Speaker 17: place they could come and raise a family and stay
35:25
Speaker 17: and really be happy.
35:25
Speaker 3: And there's been a lot of there have been some
35:27
Speaker 3: times a lot of issues in the news when it
35:29
Speaker 3: comes to our school system, our public schools. And I
35:32
Speaker 3: have all the respect in the world for public schools.
35:35
Speaker 3: Do not get me wrong. I have the union heads
35:37
Speaker 3: on my show from time to time. I have all respect.
35:39
Speaker 3: I think they're doing what they can't. However, there are
35:43
Speaker 3: issues in our public schools, and it's easily defined depending
35:47
Speaker 3: on what you're looking at. West Virginia consistently forty fifth
35:50
Speaker 3: to fiftieth sometimes even bring the territories in there, and
35:53
Speaker 3: we rank below them. How do we fix that? And
35:56
Speaker 3: Pia has been a huge part of that as well.
35:58
Speaker 3: And I know I'm kind of throwing a lot at
36:00
Speaker 3: you because I know you can handle and you you
36:02
Speaker 3: encourage this sort of thing as far as the education goes.
36:06
Speaker 3: What do we need to do to fix it? I
36:08
Speaker 3: know that's a million dollar question. If you knew that,
36:10
Speaker 3: you wouldn't be running for you know, for a house seat.
36:13
Speaker 3: But how do we start approaching some of these things?
36:15
Speaker 17: Tristom So, I think the Third Grade Success Act from
36:18
Speaker 17: two years ago was actually a fantastic start. Focusing on
36:21
Speaker 17: the science of reading is not a partisan thing. My
36:23
Speaker 17: sister is a teacher, she's a Democrat. Two of my
36:25
Speaker 17: sisters are teachers. There's a real newed interest in the
36:27
Speaker 17: science of reading and that's a really important place to start.
36:31
Speaker 17: I think we will see in the next couple years
36:33
Speaker 17: with the impact of that is. Another great thing that
36:34
Speaker 17: did was to put teachers aids in every classroom at
36:37
Speaker 17: the kindergarten level, and so as you see more of that,
36:40
Speaker 17: I would love to when I'm in the legislature focus
36:42
Speaker 17: on how to get those teachers' aides credentialed to do
36:45
Speaker 17: what they need to do to become teachers. So those
36:46
Speaker 17: are some of the sorts of things, but focusing on
36:48
Speaker 17: the basics is important and I think that really will
36:51
Speaker 17: show a big change in our school system. I'm a
36:53
Speaker 17: big advocate of school choice. You know, we have chosen
36:56
Speaker 17: to put four of our kids in public school. One
36:58
Speaker 17: that has dyslexia, is in an alternative learn environment. But
37:00
Speaker 17: giving people the options, I think is an important part
37:02
Speaker 17: of that and does help spur competition. But ultimately we've
37:06
Speaker 17: got to make sure their teachers are able to stay.
37:08
Speaker 17: That was a focus of the governor's debate last night
37:10
Speaker 17: and it is one of the big questions. How do
37:12
Speaker 17: you pay teachers more? How do you get people to
37:14
Speaker 17: stay here with the PIA challenges there, and it requires
37:18
Speaker 17: some pretty significant financial finaggling. So looking at the tax cuts,
37:22
Speaker 17: all of that again, there's some real choices for the
37:24
Speaker 17: legislature in the years ahead, but we have to be
37:27
Speaker 17: able to keep our teachers to attract more and again
37:29
Speaker 17: to do other things like focusing on accountability and focusing
37:33
Speaker 17: on the kids' success with things like that third Grade
37:35
Speaker 17: Success Act. They focus is on the basics, So that's
37:38
Speaker 17: I think I touched on your different pieces there there.
37:40
Speaker 17: It's obviously there's a lot there, but.
37:42
Speaker 3: I can't ask you to solve it in ten minutes.
37:45
Speaker 17: I get that, but that has to be the legislator's focus.
37:47
Speaker 3: It has to talking to Tristan Leven again, a Republican
37:50
Speaker 3: for a house in District fifty three. The Dave Allen
37:52
Speaker 3: Show and five eighty Live brought to you a part
37:54

38:04
Speaker 3: How's the campaign been so far? At Tristan, It's been great.
38:07
Speaker 3: I love talking to people. I love being out in
38:08
Speaker 3: the community and meeting folks, hearing their concerns. A lot
38:10
Speaker 3: of people when you knock on their door, they say,
38:12
Speaker 3: I've never had, you know, a politician knock on my door.
38:14
Speaker 3: For I try not to be offended that they call
38:16
Speaker 3: me a politician, but it's been really you own it,
38:19
Speaker 3: because I'm going to tell you these people that say
38:22
Speaker 3: they're not politicians. Absolutely. It's one of my pet PE's, Tristan,
38:25
Speaker 3: I'm gonna go off on tangent here when you say
38:26
Speaker 3: I'm not a the minute you sign your name, you're
38:29
Speaker 3: a politician. You know you're a politician, whether you want
38:31
Speaker 3: to be or not. What you sign your name on
38:33
Speaker 3: the dott a line. But go ahead, you.
38:34
Speaker 17: Got to try to represent them. Well, yeah, you got
38:36
Speaker 17: here listen to people. So it's been a wonderful experience.
38:38

38:52
Speaker 3: Give me the final thirty. Why should someone vote to
38:55
Speaker 3: vote for Tristan Levitt for a house.
38:57
Speaker 17: I'm passionate about a lot of things, and I think
39:00
Speaker 17: that my experience can be useful at this critical time
39:02
Speaker 17: in West Virginia. We have to focus on job creation,
39:04
Speaker 17: on improving our schools. I think that my experience finding
39:07
Speaker 17: problems in government and then working with lawmakers to help
39:09
Speaker 17: fix them will be beneficial as we face these big challenges,
39:12
Speaker 17: these big questions in the next few years in our legislature.
39:15
Speaker 3: Wish you the best of luck. Thanks a lot, man,
39:17

41:34
Speaker 3: we're going to take about thirty minutes or so to
41:36
Speaker 3: talk to the two nominees for Canawa County Commission, Republican
41:39
Speaker 3: Chris Walters the Democrat Natalie Tenant, both have agreed to
41:42
Speaker 3: sit down with me for two segments on the Monday Show.
41:46
Speaker 3: Not a debate, not a debate, but more of a forum,
41:50
Speaker 3: just to talk about the issues. I'm not going to
41:53
Speaker 3: be taking calls, but we will take text as long.
41:56
Speaker 3: Keep in mind, as long as they are germaining to
41:58
Speaker 3: the duties of the County Commission. In other words, I'm
42:02
Speaker 3: gonna talk about Trump. I'm gonna talk about Kamala Harris
42:06
Speaker 3: or anything like that. No border talk, nothing of the sorts.
42:10
Speaker 3: Just the things that the Kanawa County Commission can control
42:12
Speaker 3: or at least deal with on the county level. All right,
42:16
Speaker 3: So I'm gonna save you to trouble if you're gonna
42:18
Speaker 3: ask me, if you let me ask one of them,
42:19
Speaker 3: was the election stolen what would you know? What do
42:21
Speaker 3: you think about the border? What do you know? No, no,
42:23
Speaker 3: no's just let's stick to water projects. So let's stick
42:26
Speaker 3: to things that the county commissioners actually do. Now, I'll
42:30
Speaker 3: take text during the show, but if you want to
42:33
Speaker 3: email me before then you can. My email address is
42:36
Speaker 3: real simple, It's Dave dot allenwvradio dot com. Dave dot
42:40
Speaker 3: Allen WV radio dot com. And I will do my
42:43
Speaker 3: best to answer those or to ask those questions of
42:48
Speaker 3: Natalie Tennant and Chris Walters again two segments on Monday.
42:51
Speaker 3: Hats off to both candidates for agreeing to do this.
42:53
Speaker 3: I mean to come in because you don't see that
42:55
Speaker 3: a whole lot haven't heard anything from e the one
42:58
Speaker 3: of them as far as well, like what's going to
43:00
Speaker 3: happen here? And how's it? They just said yes, happy
43:03
Speaker 3: to do it, so again in this time of a
43:06
Speaker 3: toxic political environment that we have. Congratulations, hats off, kudos,
43:11
Speaker 3: whatever you want to say to Natalie Tenant and to
43:14
Speaker 3: Chris Walters for green to do this on Monday. Famous
43:17
Speaker 3: last words, I'm hoping that it stays that way. I
43:20
Speaker 3: have I'm pretty pretty confident that then it well, I
43:22
Speaker 3: got a bunch of texts to get to. I don't
43:24
Speaker 3: want to talk a little bit about the gubernatorial debate
43:26
Speaker 3: last night. A text set, what's the simple text? Vote
43:29
Speaker 3: for Amendment one? As a Texter? All right, tex says,
43:33
Speaker 3: heard you mention the Mingo County situation. The clerk there
43:37
Speaker 3: is corrupt and no surprise he was elected as a Democrat,
43:41
Speaker 3: says a Texter. Yeah, that's an unfortunate situation. And I
43:45
Speaker 3: have been caught up in a lot of things the
43:46
Speaker 3: last couple of days, and I haven't been really keeping
43:48
Speaker 3: an eye on that situation down there. Hopy is going
43:51
Speaker 3: to talk about it. I think he was going to
43:52
Speaker 3: try to get deep Curzy from the Secretary of State's
43:55
Speaker 3: office on the show today. Not sure he was efforting,
43:58
Speaker 3: as we say in the business, to make that happen,
44:00
Speaker 3: but I know he's going to talk about it. Basically,
44:02
Speaker 3: what happened down there is you have a Democratic candidate
44:05
Speaker 3: who was left off the ballot, and when people went
44:09
Speaker 3: to do their early voting, that particular candidate simply was
44:13
Speaker 3: not on the ballot, which is a little problematic, you know,
44:17
Speaker 3: And so they're investigating trying to see what happened. And
44:20
Speaker 3: now what they're going to do about it. Will those
44:22
Speaker 3: people be allowed to, you know, come back and vote.
44:24
Speaker 3: They would have to vote provisional. But again, that's down
44:27
Speaker 3: in Mingo County. And maybe I shouldn't have said what
44:29
Speaker 3: I said earlier Mingo be and Mingo, but let's face it.
44:32
Speaker 3: You know, I'm from southern West Virginia. These things have
44:35
Speaker 3: a tendency to happen down there. And I'm not throwing
44:37
Speaker 3: any shade because I don't know exactly what happened. Maybe
44:40
Speaker 3: it's an honest mistake, maybe it wasn't, I don't know,
44:42
Speaker 3: but regardless, it just throws a negative shadow on what
44:47
Speaker 3: has been a very very shaky past in political arenas
44:52
Speaker 3: in southern West Virginia, particularly Mingo County. Not hating on
44:55
Speaker 3: Mingo County because I'm from the county that's right next
44:57
Speaker 3: to Mingo County and we had our problems back in
45:00
Speaker 3: the day. Trust me, in Logan County, I know you
45:02
Speaker 3: know all about it. But for the last twenty or
45:04
Speaker 3: thirty years, it's been downright boring in Logan County, which
45:08
Speaker 3: is what it should be. So that is good news,
45:12
Speaker 3: all right. Tex says did not catch the egubernatorial debate
45:15
Speaker 3: last night, because why waste my time. Unsurprisingly, Maga Man
45:19
Speaker 3: Dave Wilson's commentary had its usual partisan bias. Perhaps he
45:24
Speaker 3: and WVRC media are positioning to get in more of
45:27
Speaker 3: these good graces once he is the official governor. I
45:30
Speaker 3: didn't catch that. I mean, I was part of the
45:32
Speaker 3: post debate talk as well as myself and Dave Wilson
45:35
Speaker 3: and Steven Allen Adams from Ogden Newspaper and a million nicely,
45:38
Speaker 3: I didn't catch that. Maybe I need to go back
45:40
Speaker 3: and listen to it again. I've never heard Dave Wilson,
45:43
Speaker 3: Northern Dave as we call him, referred to as maga man,
45:46
Speaker 3: but I'll point that out today. Tex says, I'm looking
45:50
Speaker 3: forward to seeing how well West Virginia Republicans govern now
45:52
Speaker 3: that the federal government money has dried up, knowing them
45:56
Speaker 3: they'll likely to go back to the federal will while
45:58
Speaker 3: trashing federal government, says a texture Texas Dear David. Idea
46:03
Speaker 3: rather than everyday political election talk, how about a comprehensive breakdown.
46:08
Speaker 3: How about a comprehensive breakdown of every team in the
46:11
Speaker 3: NFSE East giving the people what they want? Bro Uh,
46:14
Speaker 3: says a text. Uh Texter says, uh, Dave, we don't
46:19
Speaker 3: need another Republican to close our schools and divide our
46:22
Speaker 3: communities and put more social issues on the people. Upper
46:25
Speaker 3: ganav Valley is fed up. Vote Blue says a texture.
46:30
Speaker 3: So to last night's goobernatorial debate Patrick morris and Steve Williams.
46:35
Speaker 3: I'll let me do a little shameless promotion here if
46:37
Speaker 3: you missed, it's available. It was available last night of
46:40
Speaker 3: the Metro News TV app. So I don't know whether
46:42
Speaker 3: the podcast that or not. I'll have to check into that.
46:45
Speaker 3: But my debate thoughts last night, As I said, I
46:48
Speaker 3: was part of the post debate team, myself and h
46:50
Speaker 3: and Dave Wilson and Stephen Allen Adams and Amelia nice LEYA.
46:55
Speaker 3: We were part of the post team. Hobby of course
46:56
Speaker 3: was the moderator. I think it was overall it was
47:00
Speaker 3: very civil in my opinion. I think it was a
47:04
Speaker 3: good debate for Patrick Morrissey. And let's face it, Patrick
47:09
Speaker 3: Morrissey has more experience at debating, I mean, considering how
47:12
Speaker 3: many times he's run for office now. Steve Williams is
47:15
Speaker 3: a former legislator in addition to be multi term mayor
47:18
Speaker 3: of Huntington. I'm not saying he didn't do well, but
47:20
Speaker 3: in this sort of a setting, because you know, Patrick
47:23
Speaker 3: Morrisey has run for a couple of different offices, including
47:25
Speaker 3: an attorney general, He's got a little bit of more experience.
47:29
Speaker 3: I do think I do think that that Steve Williams
47:33
Speaker 3: did well, But I don't think that one of the
47:37
Speaker 3: things that Steve Williams tried to get Morrisey on worked
47:41
Speaker 3: out well for him. The subject of opioids was brought up,
47:46
Speaker 3: and you know it would be and uh, and Steve
47:48
Speaker 3: Williams tried to get into Morrissey's past ties to the
47:52
Speaker 3: pharmaceutical industry, and I guess I don't know whether that
47:56
Speaker 3: was such a good idea or not. Because I'll give
47:58
Speaker 3: kudos to Patrick Morrissey. I thought he handled it well.
48:01
Speaker 3: I guess Mayor Williams forgot that in the past he
48:06
Speaker 3: meaning Mayor Williams, had actually praised Patrick Morrissey and his
48:11
Speaker 3: office for their work as Attorney General in going after
48:15
Speaker 3: some of the big drug companies. And Patrick Morrissey handled
48:20
Speaker 3: it well because he kind of turned it around on
48:23
Speaker 3: Mayor Williams and pretty much forced him to admit that
48:27
Speaker 3: in the past, the mayor as mayor of Huntington had
48:30
Speaker 3: actually praised the Morrissey administration, that was until he became
48:35
Speaker 3: a candidate. And I'm kind of paraphrasing what Patrick Morrissey
48:39
Speaker 3: said there. He basically said to Steve Williams, well, you
48:41
Speaker 3: know you had no problem with any of this. Matter
48:45
Speaker 3: of fact, you showed up at my press conference of whatever.
48:47
Speaker 3: You have praised me in the past as doing a
48:50
Speaker 3: good job as Attorney General fighting the opioid crisis, with
48:54
Speaker 3: the opioid settlements and so on and so forth. And
48:57
Speaker 3: to be honest with you, because we were you know,
48:59
Speaker 3: it was livestream. We were watching it by myself. I
49:01
Speaker 3: had Mike Pushkin in studio with me because he was
49:04
Speaker 3: part of the post debate as well being the state
49:06
Speaker 3: Democratic Party chair. You know, he we watched it and
49:10
Speaker 3: we could see the expression on Steve Williams face when
49:14
Speaker 3: he basically said, well, yeah, I kind of did that.
49:18
Speaker 3: As to who won the debate, you know, it's just like, folks,
49:23
Speaker 3: It's just like with any other debate. I mean, Republicans
49:26
Speaker 3: are going to say that Morrissey won, and the Democrats
49:28
Speaker 3: are going to say that Williams won because nobody can
49:30
Speaker 3: be honest about who actually won. They're going to say
49:34
Speaker 3: their person one. I would say this if you're judging
49:39
Speaker 3: on style points, my opinion, my opinion only. It was
49:44
Speaker 3: a win overall for Patrick Morrissey over Steve Williams. And
49:48
Speaker 3: that's the way I think it's going to shake out
49:49
Speaker 3: on election day. And I have all the respect in
49:52
Speaker 3: the world for Mayor Williams. I've known him for a
49:55
Speaker 3: few years. And I will also say this as someone
49:59
Speaker 3: who has ties to the Huntington area, spent a lot
50:02
Speaker 3: of time there with college there. I can tell you
50:07
Speaker 3: it is remarkable the changes that have been made to
50:11
Speaker 3: the City of Huntington during the Williams administration. Now is
50:14
Speaker 3: it perfect.
50:15
Speaker 6: No.
50:15
Speaker 3: They still have drug issues, they still have homeless issues.
50:19
Speaker 3: But the city as a whole, in my opinion, has
50:21
Speaker 3: gotten a lot better off than it used to be.
50:23
Speaker 3: It's certainly a lot better than it was in nineteen
50:26
Speaker 3: ninety to nineteen ninety two when I was attending Marshall University.
50:29
Speaker 3: I can tell you that it's a whole lot better now.
50:31
Speaker 3: City was bankrupt and Mayor Williams basically saved it. Now
50:36
Speaker 3: did he fix everything? No, I don't think any mayor
50:37
Speaker 3: is going to but overall last night, I would have
50:40
Speaker 3: to say that if you're picking winners, and you know,
50:44
Speaker 3: some of the more journalistic types like you know, Amelia
50:47
Speaker 3: and Brad and Steve Adams, they don't want to pick
50:50
Speaker 3: a winner. And I completely get that. But I'm not
50:51
Speaker 3: a journalist, Okay, I'm supposedly an entertainer or whatever I can.
50:56
Speaker 3: I can pretty much say what I want, and I
50:57
Speaker 3: think Morrissey won last night. I really really do agree.
51:00
Speaker 3: You're welcome to weigh in on it with me if
51:03
Speaker 3: you want. You can text me or call me Bigley
51:05
Speaker 3: Pigley Wiggly Hotline three zero four three four five fifty
51:08
Speaker 3: eight fifty eight. Tony the Taylor text three zero four
51:10
Speaker 3: nine three five five zero zero eight. But Dave Allen
51:13
Speaker 3: showing five dy li ive brought to you, parried by
51:15
Speaker 3: Morgan to Moregon, America's largest injury law firm. If you're injured,
51:17
Speaker 3: visit for the people dot com, uh Texas. I don't
51:22
Speaker 3: feel like Dave Wilson favored Morrissey. It seemed to me
51:25
Speaker 3: like the majority of the panels was attempting to salvage
51:27
Speaker 3: Steve Williams Oh I mean, you know, we weren't attempting
51:31
Speaker 3: to salvage anything. We were just giving our opinions. Texas says, Actually,
51:36
Speaker 3: the Democratic Party leadership didn't even put out a statement
51:38
Speaker 3: about Steve will he was performance. They know he got
51:41
Speaker 3: whipped in the debate. Uh, Texas, Steve Williams has more
51:46
Speaker 3: experience as a West Virginia and the new Jersey lawyer
51:49
Speaker 3: is no Rockefeller. That's the Texter, Texas, Dave. It's one
51:55
Speaker 3: thing to have experience in debating and being smoothed, and
51:58
Speaker 3: another not to be prepared. Giams was not prepared to
52:01
Speaker 3: talk about Peia solutions and economic topics. Shockingly unprepared, says
52:06
Speaker 3: the text. Final text says Morrissey help flood West Virginia
52:09
Speaker 3: with opiates and then fought against the efforts of the
52:12
Speaker 3: opioid dump. We should be so grateful for pain pill
52:15
Speaker 3: pat a little bit of sarcasm. I think they're from
52:18
Speaker 3: the texture, all right. Thanks to Tristan Levitt, and thanks
52:20
Speaker 3: to John Mitchell and doctor Casey Sachs and Rob Real
52:23
Speaker 3: for being on the show. Coming up tomorrow, we have
52:25
Speaker 3: a couple of more House candidates on the show, plus
52:28
Speaker 3: Rob Reel for the final time on his talk as
52:30
Speaker 3: walk from Charleston Morgantown for WVU Children's Matt Murphy, my producer,
52:34
Speaker 3: thank you so much. I'll be coming up with talk
52:35
Speaker 3: Line ten o six. I will see you tomorrow. Download
52:38
Speaker 3: the all new Metro News TV app and the wv
52:40
Speaker 3: RC Media App. Till tomorrow, have fun and love somebody
