- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. How often do you wake up and
- 0:31feel like you're already behind? Because I know this time of year
- 0:36it happens to me a lot. I wake up and I'm good until the
- 0:42sun comes up. And as soon as the sun starts
- 0:44coming up, I start to go down this road of, Oh my gosh, I
- 0:47didn't get enough done. I wanted to get more done before
- 0:50the sun came up, before I had to get the chickens out, before I
- 0:52had to care for all the animals. And my brain starts to spin.
- 0:56And when my brain spins, my friends, it spins.
- 1:00Trust me, it is not a pretty sight.
- 1:03And this morning I woke up and it's cool outside.
- 1:06Like it's actually cool outside. I think it's like 55°.
- 1:10A sun is just like just starting to lighten up.
- 1:14You can hear all the birds in the background, and what's
- 1:18fascinating to me is it's actually chilly.
- 1:20It feels like early spring. It's like 50.
- 1:24I think they said it was 54 degrees, 55, something like
- 1:27that. But it's chilly, chilly compared
- 1:29to where we would be. And as soon as I felt that shift
- 1:33when I was in the spin, so I have the spin happening in my
- 1:37head, all of it's taking off. And then I start thinking to
- 1:40myself, you know, I've got to get more done.
- 1:42I've got to get more done. And then all of a sudden I walk
- 1:44out the door to come into the garage to get the girls
- 1:47breakfast ready. And I feel this like burst of
- 1:52air. And I went, oh, it's cool out.
- 1:54Maybe I should do this instead, before it gets hot and my brain
- 1:58starts going in a completely different direction and
- 2:01something physical, mental, emotional, something interrupts
- 2:05your pattern and all of a sudden you're thrown.
- 2:08This is pretty common, and I have to say it's not just common
- 2:11for me, it's common for all of us.
- 2:13So in one felt swoop, all of a sudden now I'm in a completely
- 2:17different direction. My head is going in a different
- 2:20direction. I'm thinking all these different
- 2:22thoughts about what I should be going and doing instead of
- 2:26focusing on what I had intended to do before this all started.
- 2:30When the panic was I got to hurry up and get my stuff done,
- 2:33which wasn't even necessary to begin with.
- 2:36And that's the chaos. I'm talking about controlling
- 2:38the chaos in our brains is such a big deal.
- 2:42It is such a big deal. And for me, I think one thing
- 2:47that I want to share to impart on all of you is when you feel
- 2:52that chaos sneaking in, you have to interrupt your own pattern.
- 2:57Now, I was actually grateful when I walked out the door and I
- 3:00felt the cold air because that totally interrupted my pattern.
- 3:04Now, did it send me down a different direction?
- 3:06Yes. Did I have to stop myself?
- 3:09Yes. But you know what was really
- 3:11cool? I was able to do it.
- 3:13I was actually able to just stop and go.
- 3:15Nope, we're not going to get sidetracked.
- 3:17We know what we have to do. And that's because I have a lot
- 3:20of things to do today. I'm not seeing a lot of clients
- 3:23today. I'm only seeing one or two and
- 3:25then I'm off to go do all the other chores that I know have
- 3:30been waiting to do. So the point is, I don't want to
- 3:33get sidetracked. I want to do what I'm I'm
- 3:35supposed to be doing. I don't want to get allow myself
- 3:39to run down that rabbit hole just because something
- 3:42interrupted my pattern and sent me in the opposite direction.
- 3:47I can feel it, but I don't have to respond to it.
- 3:50And that's the point I want to make to you guys today.
- 3:52Just because you feel something, just because you have a thought,
- 3:55doesn't mean it's true, and it doesn't mean you should respond
- 3:58to it instantaneously. You can.
- 4:00You can hit the pause button. You can hear in your, in your
- 4:04own mind where you're going off the rails and you can say, you
- 4:07know what? I'm going to choose to hit this
- 4:08pause button right now. I'm not going to keep going down
- 4:11this road because it's not going to serve me for the rest of my
- 4:13day. The rest of my day still needs
- 4:15to be in some semblance, in some sort of order.
- 4:18So the best way that you can do this is as soon as you start to
- 4:23feel something come up, you just say to yourself, pause, wait, I
- 4:29have to go through this and see if this is actually the going to
- 4:33serve my end result. So if it's going to serve my end
- 4:36result of the day, I could change my direction.
- 4:39But if it's not going to serve my end result, then what am I
- 4:43doing? So maybe I can swap some things
- 4:45around today and do the things that I want to do in cooler
- 4:48weather now that I didn't expect.
- 4:52Or I could look at my schedule and, and between today and
- 4:55tomorrow where it's definitely going to be warmer and I could
- 4:57swap it around. But I'm not just going to do it
- 4:59haphazardly. I can use the pattern, the
- 5:02interruption and the pattern to correct and consciously do it,
- 5:06which will give you more power. So I'm going to go do that with
- 5:10my schedule. I hope you guys have a very
- 5:13blessed day. I hope this was helpful, but
- 5:16really look at the way you can utilize it.
- 5:19Don't just allow it to throw you and take you away like a swift
- 5:23current. Make a choice with it because it
- 5:26becomes way more powerful then. All right everybody, I hope you
- 5:29have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:31Bye.
