- 0:00Sean McAllister: It's Vegas Revealed episode 94 as international travel resumes here on the strip.
- 0:06Sean McAllister: Here from the first overseas passengers to touch down.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: It's huge because my mom has I've been seeing it for two years, um, and she's coming in for my wedding.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: I'm getting married in a week and a bit.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: So we just she just made it just in time.
- 0:20Dayna Roselli: And our chat with a Vegas fan in the UK who can't wait to be back in his favorite city.
- 0:25SPEAKER_06: We've got a tripbook for next September.
- 0:27SPEAKER_06: Four days in Vegas, Park MGM.
- 0:29SPEAKER_06: However, we're I know Christmas because we're like, we cannot go that long without getting back to Vegas.
- 0:35Sean McAllister: Then what we're just finding out about vaccine status is the National Finals rodeo is set to arrive.
- 0:41Dayna Roselli: Plus, could an eye store on the strip finally turn into a functional resort?
- 0:46Dayna Roselli: There's a lot to talk about today.
- 0:48Sean McAllister: Spin that wheel, George.
- 1:00Sean McAllister: Welcome to Vegas Revealed episode 94.
- 1:04Sean McAllister: And as we uh sit down and record today, Dana, we are seeing some faces that we haven't seen in Las Vegas in over two years.
- 1:13Sean McAllister: We're talking about international travelers being welcomed back to Las Vegas.
- 1:19Sean McAllister: I'm Sean McAllister along with Dana Roselli.
- 1:21Sean McAllister: Thanks for joining us.
- 1:22Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's been about 20 months.
- 1:24Dayna Roselli: So finally we'll get to see some of those people visit us.
- 1:27Dayna Roselli: And it's funny because it's been so busy lately that I'm like, wow, we're gonna have even more visitors than normal.
- 1:32Dayna Roselli: So I expect it to be a very crowded month here in Las Vegas.
- 1:35Sean McAllister: Well, and that's the thing.
- 1:36Sean McAllister: As we head into December, usually the two weeks before Christmas and the week after Christmas are usually pretty slow.
- 1:46Sean McAllister: They're r really, really slow times.
- 1:49Sean McAllister: New Year's Eve is mixed in there, that's busy.
- 1:51Sean McAllister: But other than that, there aren't a lot of conventions happening.
- 1:54Sean McAllister: And visitation is generally just low because people tend to take that time to spend with their families.
- 2:01Sean McAllister: I have a feeling though that could change this year.
- 2:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and especially if people take advantage of some deals.
- 2:06Dayna Roselli: We're gonna talk to Chris Phelps, who is itching to get back here to Las Vegas, and he was giving us kind of some insight on some of the prices out there for airlines, because we haven't looked really, but he is uh looking to get back in September and then maybe even around the holidays.
- 2:21Dayna Roselli: So he said it's pretty affordable.
- 2:23Sean McAllister: Yeah, he lives over in the UK, a a frequent Vegas visitor before the pandemic, so you'll hear from him uh coming up.
- 2:31Sean McAllister: But the big news is these uh the Virgin Atlantic plane that touched down in Las Vegas was the first one since March of 2020.
- 2:42Sean McAllister: And that was pretty exciting for the people on board.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: It's really, really exciting to have them back.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Virgin gives us the leisure passenger.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: So we know the pent-up feel for international was going to come back as quickly as domestic.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: So after the government's worked everything out with the protocol, and the airline takes care of that with each of the passenger, we knew that this flight was going to be filled, and it is.
- 3:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that was a very happy director of aviation over at our airport.
- 3:15Dayna Roselli: Now, here's an interesting kind of number.
- 3:18Dayna Roselli: Las Vegas welcomed 5.7 million international travelers in 2019, which resulted in$4.8 billion in direct economic impact.
- 3:29Dayna Roselli: So you can only imagine why she's so happy.
- 3:31Dayna Roselli: And all of Las Vegas is happy.
- 3:33Dayna Roselli: It's all part of our economic recovery.
- 3:36Sean McAllister: No kidding.
- 3:36Sean McAllister: And so as of right now, uh Virgin Atlantic Airways is flying from London to Las Vegas.
- 3:43Sean McAllister: Starting November 15th, British Airways is going to be flying in, uh, followed by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and COPA Airlines starting uh both of those on December 7th.
- 3:57Dayna Roselli: One of the passengers on the first Virgin Atlantic flight into Las Vegas was Stephen Stanley, and he shared his feelings just moments after he stepped off the plane.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: I'm really excited.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Um I mean I'm so happy it hurts, to be honest.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Um here to see some friends I haven't seen in a long time, been a couple of years, haven't been on a plane for two years, so amazed to be back in Vegas.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:21Dayna Roselli: Yes, people excited to arrive here in Las Vegas.
- 4:24Dayna Roselli: And also a little note a lot of our entertainers that were here during the pandemic that are from the UK and have family or have family overseas haven't been able to go there because they can't get back because they're not a U.S.
- 4:37Dayna Roselli: citizen.
- 4:38Dayna Roselli: So I was noticing too a couple different groups on Facebook that perform around town all on a plane out to go see their family.
- 4:45Dayna Roselli: And so um excited for them because I know it's been a long time coming for them to see their family.
- 4:50Sean McAllister: Yeah, it certainly has.
- 4:51Dayna Roselli: They'll be able to get back this time.
- 4:52Dayna Roselli: Yeah, no kidding.
- 4:53Sean McAllister: No kidding.
- 4:54Sean McAllister: As long as you're fully vaccinated, you you have no problem traveling in and out of the United States.
- 4:59Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 5:00Dayna Roselli: And and I just wanted to point out too, uh regular nonstop service from Mexico resumed way back in July of 2020.
- 5:06Dayna Roselli: So we've had that going, and that's why we've seen a lot of our friends in Mexico vacationing.
- 5:11Dayna Roselli: And then Canada resumed earlier this year.
- 5:14Dayna Roselli: So now we're pretty much ready to go.
- 5:17Sean McAllister: Yeah, we have those transoceanic flights that are up and running now.
- 5:21Sean McAllister: So welcome to all of the overseas travelers who are uh who have plans to be here in Las Vegas.
- 5:29Sean McAllister: And one of those overseas travelers is Chris Phelps.
- 5:32Sean McAllister: He's a UK man who regularly traveled here to Las Vegas before the pandemic shut down.
- 5:39Sean McAllister: And we wanted to get his take on uh the feelings overseas for travel resuming here to the United States and to Las Vegas.
- 5:47Dayna Roselli: All right, we have dialed in the UK.
- 5:50Dayna Roselli: We have Chris Phelps on the line with us right now, and he's coming to us from England and super excited about the new travel restrictions easing up, and he's gonna be able to get to Las Vegas.
- 6:02Sean McAllister: Yeah, and Chris, we just saw that the first international travelers are now here on the soil in Las Vegas.
- 6:09Sean McAllister: Uh, but you have a trip planned coming up here too.
- 6:13Sean McAllister: First of all, welcome and then tell us about your trip.
- 6:15SPEAKER_06: Oh, thank you.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: An honor to have me on, guys.
- 6:18SPEAKER_06: I absolutely adore the show.
- 6:19SPEAKER_06: So thank you for your content.
- 6:21SPEAKER_06: It's amazing.
- 6:22Dayna Roselli: Um, we love that.
- 6:24SPEAKER_06: I should have been in Las Vegas last week.
- 6:26SPEAKER_06: My daughter was 21, and we I've been quite a few times.
- 6:30SPEAKER_06: I love Las Vegas.
- 6:31SPEAKER_06: I made the mistake of bringing her when she was 18.
- 6:34SPEAKER_06: I was 40 in 2018 for Thanksgiving week.
- 6:37SPEAKER_06: That's when my birthday is.
- 6:39SPEAKER_06: And she couldn't do anything.
- 6:40SPEAKER_06: She'd just become an adult in the UK, and she literally couldn't gamble, drink, anything.
- 6:45SPEAKER_06: So I've been we've been the worst parents ever, me and my wife.
- 6:49SPEAKER_06: So we vowed we will bring her back.
- 6:51SPEAKER_06: One of my sisters lives in Vancouver, she comes down from Vancouver to stay, and we all have a great time in Vegas usually.
- 6:58SPEAKER_06: So three years we've been waiting, and then the pandemic hit.
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: So we were should have been here.
- 7:03SPEAKER_06: We've been away to Greece, but now we're edging to we've got a trip up for next September, four days in Vegas, Park MGM, and then we've got New York as well.
- 7:12SPEAKER_06: I was gonna stay near Times Square.
- 7:13SPEAKER_06: However, we're eyeing up Christmas because we're like, we cannot go that long without getting back to Vegas.
- 7:19SPEAKER_06: So it was it was quite emotional seeing everyone uh in Vegas, people I know, and also the simultaneous flights that Virgin British Airways did, where both planes took off exactly the same time and pretty much landed as well.
- 7:31SPEAKER_06: It's brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
- 7:33Sean McAllister: Well, and obviously we're seeing the reaction of travelers as they touch down here in Las Vegas, and uh there's incredible excitement for people to be back here to one of their favorite global destinations.
- 7:45Sean McAllister: But but what is it like on the ground there in the UK?
- 7:49Sean McAllister: I mean, for for your your neighbors, for you know, people you run into on the street, like can you give us a sense of what it's like to now just have the ability to have international travel at your fingertips again?
- 8:04SPEAKER_06: It's such a good question because I mean, like yourselves, everywhere's been so restricted.
- 8:08SPEAKER_06: We could go within Europe, but there were so many hoops you had to sort of jump through to get there.
- 8:13SPEAKER_06: Obviously, like yourself, the testing, everything.
- 8:16SPEAKER_06: And then for a long time we had to do staycations within the UK, and that was quite an eye-opener, but really nice to find some places in the UK that you would never normally go to.
- 8:24SPEAKER_06: I think having the discussions with a lot of my friends, it's a lot of them are very cautious because they're sort of thinking, well, I want someone else to go to go through all that.
- 8:33SPEAKER_06: A lot of people are saying they don't want to come over to the US because they think the queues are going to be really bad at passport.
- 8:38SPEAKER_06: Are they worried that if they do get COVID, it's such a long way away?
- 8:42SPEAKER_06: You know, what are the restrictions?
- 8:44SPEAKER_06: Because in in Europe, a lot of the times when people have gone away and they've contracted COVID, they're literally in a hotel for 10 days at their expense and it costs them thousands of pounds.
- 8:53SPEAKER_06: So so that's a real worry.
- 8:55SPEAKER_06: However, myself, I'm I go to Vegas, I gamble.
- 8:58SPEAKER_06: I'm happy to take that gamble if we can get over to uh the America, love your country.
- 9:03SPEAKER_06: So it is it is a worrying time, but for people are thinking, well, this is hopefully the final step back to some sort of normality.
- 9:10SPEAKER_06: You know, a world is never gonna be the same again, but we will be in something that we can all relate to and start enjoying life again, hopefully.
- 9:18Dayna Roselli: Well, in September, you're right, is a long ways away.
- 9:20Dayna Roselli: So I have a feeling we're gonna see you in around the holidays.
- 9:24Dayna Roselli: I mean, what are flights?
- 9:25Dayna Roselli: Have you even browse?
- 9:26Dayna Roselli: What are flights like right now?
- 9:27Dayna Roselli: Are they cheap?
- 9:28Dayna Roselli: Are they expensive?
- 9:29SPEAKER_06: They're they're quite cheap, actually.
- 9:31SPEAKER_06: It I mean, I have the My Vegas app, so I'm always playing the virtual slot, so we get a lot of offers when we come over.
- 9:37SPEAKER_06: So we try and book the flight, and then we will get the stay when we come over to Vegas, you know, in very various different hotels.
- 9:45SPEAKER_06: It's around about, I'd say in dollars, it's probably about eight, nine hundred dollars for a return flight at the moment, which isn't too bad.
- 9:52SPEAKER_06: And we do have like the British Airways and Virgin holiday sales, they usually would come towards the end of the year and early part of next year, but it's not too expensive.
- 10:01SPEAKER_06: And obviously, you know, if you play it right when you get to Vegas, you you could do the bit of gambling, but you've got your drinks on the slots, things like that.
- 10:09SPEAKER_06: So there's there's ways around it, but it it's not too expensive.
- 10:12SPEAKER_06: And a lot of the holiday firms are doing good packages at the moment, which is great.
- 10:16SPEAKER_06: There's some really good diggers out there, it's just a case of hunting them down, especially now we're open.
- 10:20SPEAKER_06: However, I am of the opinion, I'm sure you're sure the prices are going to go up now that everything's open.
- 10:25Dayna Roselli: I know we might have to lock it in.
- 10:27Sean McAllister: Yeah, and speaking of locking things in, have you made an itinerary yet?
- 10:31Sean McAllister: Have you have you scheduled out what your Vegas trip is going to look like?
- 10:36Sean McAllister: The activities that are on your wish list, all that?
- 10:39SPEAKER_06: Uh well, my wife has always got to go to the Grand Canyon, and I know that's a day out, and every time we've gone, we've never never done it, and we've stayed longer than three or four days.
- 10:49SPEAKER_06: Maybe we used to stay for over a week.
- 10:51SPEAKER_06: So we've got to do it this time.
- 10:52SPEAKER_06: I know it's a shorter stay, we have to do that.
- 10:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 10:55SPEAKER_06: I went up the strat last time and did the roller coaster that hangs you over the edge, uh-huh.
- 10:59SPEAKER_06: And then the one that was like a spider, because I I do like my YouTube vlogs, I'm on there, and the spider one, it was too windy.
- 11:05SPEAKER_06: I literally sat in the seat and they were like, No, you cannot go.
- 11:08SPEAKER_06: So I've got a date with that, and we've got a couple of shows we want to see.
- 11:11SPEAKER_06: My wife is saying she wants to go and see Funder Down Under, I think it is.
- 11:15SPEAKER_06: So I we went to see the Pete show a few years ago in 2013 with Coco, our Ice T's wife, not knowing what the show was really at Planet Hollywood.
- 11:24SPEAKER_06: And then um, it was more of obviously for guys, really, I think at the time myself.
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: So I always go out, like, oh, it's a great show.
- 11:31SPEAKER_06: So I owe a Thunder from Down Under, so I've got to go there for the next thing.
- 11:35Dayna Roselli: Well, what are some other shows that you want to see?
- 11:36Dayna Roselli: That's hilarious.
- 11:38SPEAKER_06: Uh well, I saw Michael Boobway's gonna have a residency coming.
- 11:41SPEAKER_06: I'm not sure whether he's gonna be here in in September.
- 11:43SPEAKER_06: I know Sting's obviously listening to your podcast as well.
- 11:46SPEAKER_06: The Sting stuff is really good.
- 11:47SPEAKER_06: He's uh from Newcastle.
- 11:49SPEAKER_06: I always feel like we've missed out like even Elton John and that he's very difficult to get tickets for in the UK, and he doesn't do a lot of gigs when he was in Vegas, even the Donnie Marie stuff, and that they're not doing it together anymore.
- 11:59SPEAKER_06: There were various things.
- 12:01SPEAKER_06: We've done a lot of the Soleil, we've done the Beatles, I did the Elvis one as well.
- 12:05SPEAKER_06: That was a great one.
- 12:06SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 12:06SPEAKER_06: Car, we've seen.
- 12:07SPEAKER_06: So we we usually sort of pick and choose.
- 12:09SPEAKER_06: The last time was at the Strat, and we went to see the Michael Jackson one.
- 12:12SPEAKER_06: That was really good, and uh I enjoyed that a lot.
- 12:14SPEAKER_06: That was a good night.
- 12:15SPEAKER_06: That he was a very good dancer as well.
- 12:17Dayna Roselli: Well, Donnie has his own show now, and we loved it.
- 12:20Dayna Roselli: So we recommend Donnie if that if if you're looking, because you were talking about Donnie and Marie, it's a good show.
- 12:25Dayna Roselli: There's so many good shows out there right now.
- 12:27Dayna Roselli: Uh Sean and I were always saying, like, we don't know if it's like the long break that everyone had like time to like plan out their show a little more and think of all these creative things and perfect them, but the the entertainment right now is excellent.
- 12:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it is, and and and and I know one of my friends who comes over, he goes to Vegas more than me.
- 12:45SPEAKER_06: He he had the chance to see Queen with Adam Lambert, and I'd love to see them.
- 12:48SPEAKER_06: And I know they they haven't got at all announced at the moment, especially not in Vegas, but even Rod Stewart, people like that, they're all in Vegas, it's something different.
- 12:56SPEAKER_06: Robbie Williams was there a couple of well, I think last year as co-he had a residency as well.
- 13:02SPEAKER_06: So, and Matt Goss, another UK guy, he's been there for years.
- 13:05SPEAKER_06: Matt Goss, he's really good.
- 13:07Dayna Roselli: Yeah, he is really good.
- 13:08Dayna Roselli: He's a good friend of mine.
- 13:10Sean McAllister: I was gonna say, although now he's closer to you than he is to us.
- 13:14Sean McAllister: He's spending some time over in the homeland.
- 13:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, he is.
- 13:17Dayna Roselli: He's kind of stuck over there for a little bit.
- 13:20Dayna Roselli: But um, we produced one of his podcasts, so yeah, we're very familiar of what it's kind of been like, but it's interesting because you know, we do have so much to do, but every person that we talk to that visits Las Vegas, we feel like they have like a certain thing that they love the most about it.
- 13:34Dayna Roselli: So, what do you love about Las Vegas?
- 13:36SPEAKER_06: I love spending it with my wife, and my daughter's gonna be an extent when she comes.
- 13:41SPEAKER_06: When we've we've came before, it was my wife's uh 40 in 2012.
- 13:45SPEAKER_06: That was our first visit.
- 13:46SPEAKER_06: I'd had a childhood ambition to get to America, especially Vegas, and we literally did it was Chandler, uh Chandler, it was Ross and Rachel when they did sort of Vegas, and we you know, obviously we didn't get remarried, but we we would do a casino cross.
- 14:00SPEAKER_06: So I think we started in Gillies in the Gillies bar, and there was the the the the ball the automatic bull thing gone, and people were getting rather drunk, and then we lit we've stayed at the MGM both times, so we would just casino hop all the way back and end up in New York, New York, the piano bar.
- 14:13SPEAKER_06: I love all that, I love music.
- 14:15SPEAKER_06: I was in I was in a band for a long time, so I love like just seeing live music and just the aura of being in Las Vegas.
- 14:21SPEAKER_06: There's nothing like it.
- 14:22SPEAKER_06: I cannot explain why I love the city so much.
- 14:25SPEAKER_06: I mean, I've just I'm have I've got a sleeve done now this last year because I couldn't go a Las Vegas sleeve and uh tattoo and everything.
- 14:31SPEAKER_06: I'm absolutely, I mean, I sound like I'm I'm too obsessed, but it's just anybody who knows me knows that it's just Vegas.
- 14:38SPEAKER_06: And when I'm with my wife's uh Sam together, it's just great.
- 14:40SPEAKER_06: We just play the slots, we don't do the tables, we just do the slots, and we yeah, just get very drunk usually.
- 14:46SPEAKER_06: Have a good night.
- 14:47Sean McAllister: Well, I love that you have the whole body art that was inspired by the I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder, doesn't it?
- 14:56SPEAKER_06: Oh yes, yeah.
- 14:56SPEAKER_06: I'll I'll send you a picture of it.
- 14:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's it's not finished yet, but yeah, I had I've even got the zip code 89109 on my arm.
- 15:03SPEAKER_06: I've had that put on and everything, so yeah.
- 15:06SPEAKER_06: That's my zip code.
- 15:07Dayna Roselli: That's so funny.
- 15:07Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I look at the strip, yeah.
- 15:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, amazing, amazing.
- 15:11Dayna Roselli: So well, listen, we're excited for you.
- 15:13Dayna Roselli: Browse around, get here before September.
- 15:15Dayna Roselli: Um, and tell us a little bit about your travel blog too, before you go, because I know you have a YouTube channel.
- 15:20Dayna Roselli: I was looking at some of the videos, you do a nice job.
- 15:22SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 15:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and and it was inspired by Vegas.
- 15:25SPEAKER_06: I started doing that.
- 15:26SPEAKER_06: There should be more Vegas.
- 15:27SPEAKER_06: I've only got one Vegas vlog on from my Thanksgiving 2018, but it's Phelps travel vlogs, and I just when we go away with my family, we just sort of video everything.
- 15:35SPEAKER_06: And I annoy my wife and daughter a lot because I've always got a camera out or a gimbal, you know, filming everything.
- 15:40SPEAKER_06: But yeah, they're just on YouTube.
- 15:42SPEAKER_06: We do that, and I do podcasts like you guys as well.
- 15:44SPEAKER_06: So I've been trying to get one of my friends, he's been to Vegas a lot more times than me, and we're trying to get a a UK Vegas one we were at one point, but it's never took off.
- 15:53SPEAKER_06: But yeah, absolutely.
- 15:54SPEAKER_06: Just anything like that, the medium, and stretch what you guys do.
- 15:57SPEAKER_06: I love it.
- 15:57Dayna Roselli: Yeah, maybe you need like a UK revealed.
- 15:59Dayna Roselli: It could be like a whole yeah, yeah.
- 16:02Dayna Roselli: Something like that.
- 16:04Sean McAllister: Well, Chris, thank you so much for for your time and your perspective, and we can't wait to see you back on the ground here in Las Vegas.
- 16:11SPEAKER_06: Thank you so much, guys, and I love the podcast.
- 16:13SPEAKER_06: Keep doing what you do, and it's amazing.
- 16:16Dayna Roselli: Great to talk to Chris.
- 16:17Dayna Roselli: He usually DMs us on Twitter, always listening to the podcast.
- 16:21Dayna Roselli: We love that we've been able to provide some, you know, kind of information and some excitement for him as he gets ready to come back to Las Vegas.
- 16:29Dayna Roselli: Wanted to point out he also hosts a bunch of different podcasts, so we're gonna put that in our listener notes.
- 16:34Dayna Roselli: If you want to go find Chris, he's got a reality cast podcast where they talk about reality shows.
- 16:39Dayna Roselli: He's got the VHS Strikes Back and the Comics in Motion Network.
- 16:43Dayna Roselli: So lots of stuff there if you're interested in any of that.
- 16:46Sean McAllister: And stick around here on Vegas Revealed because coming up in tips, Chris has a good one for anyone with international travel plans.
- 16:55Sean McAllister: It'll definitely save you some time on your next trip.
- 16:58Sean McAllister: So that's still to come here on Vegas Revealed.
- 17:01Dayna Roselli: And I wanted to talk about this, which in in some ways could be a tip.
- 17:04Dayna Roselli: I we got this release a while ago, and I just found it in my inbox.
- 17:07Dayna Roselli: And I was like, wait, we haven't talked about this yet.
- 17:09Dayna Roselli: And it's New Year's Eve plans on Fremont Street at the Fremont Street Experience.
- 17:13Dayna Roselli: So it's an 80s and 90s themed dance party that they're having for New Year's Eve.
- 17:19Dayna Roselli: And guess who's gonna be there?
- 17:21Dayna Roselli: Vanilla Ice, the village people, Bobby Brown, Tone Lowe, and more.
- 17:27Dayna Roselli: Oh my goodness, that is a lineup.
- 17:30Sean McAllister: That is a good time.
- 17:31Sean McAllister: And if you've ever seen what it looks like down on Fremont Street for New Year's Eve, it is a party.
- 17:39Sean McAllister: I mean, they shut down the strip to traffic, to vehicle traffic, so that you know, pedestrians can pack Las Vegas Boulevard.
- 17:48Sean McAllister: But downtown on Fremont Street, it it's kind of uh all cordoned off.
- 17:53Sean McAllister: So you have to buy a ticket to get in.
- 17:55Sean McAllister: And by the way, tickets are already on sale uh for this New Year's Eve bash down on Fremont Street.
- 18:01Sean McAllister: Uh they go for about 35 bucks, but you need a ticket to get in.
- 18:05Sean McAllister: And once you're in, it is just a huge party.
- 18:09Sean McAllister: And of course, there's the canopy over top Fremont Street experience.
- 18:14Sean McAllister: A lot of times they put different uh broadcasts up on the uh canopy to welcome in the new year and show the fireworks that are going on around Las Vegas and around the world.
- 18:25Sean McAllister: So it really is a great time.
- 18:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so if that is your thing, definitely get tickets and get out there.
- 18:32Dayna Roselli: Uh, we hope for good weather this year.
- 18:34Dayna Roselli: Sometimes we have a really mild New Year's Eve, sometimes we don't.
- 18:37Dayna Roselli: But under that canopy and all the people there, it kind of stays a little warmer.
- 18:40Sean McAllister: It does.
- 18:41Sean McAllister: And you're pretty sh pretty much shoulder to shoulder.
- 18:44Dayna Roselli: And Bobby Brown will be heating it up if that's your prerogative.
- 18:49Sean McAllister: I see what you did there.
- 18:51Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 18:52Dayna Roselli: What else is going on on New Year's Eve?
- 18:53Dayna Roselli: On the strip, we've talked a little bit, but the full rundown, we've got what?
- 18:57Dayna Roselli: Maroon 5 coming in, Lizzo, Katy Perry, Bruno Maher.
- 19:01Dayna Roselli: So Las Vegas is the place to be for New Year's Eve, and now everyone overseas can come too.
- 19:06Sean McAllister: That's right.
- 19:06Sean McAllister: And that's not even everything that's going on.
- 19:08Sean McAllister: So uh we'll compile a full list of New Year's Eve goings on and have that on the Vegas Dash Reveal.com um in the in the next week or so.
- 19:19Sean McAllister: Um something else that is kind of big news here in Las Vegas.
- 19:23Sean McAllister: There is an eyesore on the Las Vegas Strip.
- 19:27Sean McAllister: This building that was that began construction.
- 19:31Sean McAllister: I mean, um I think probably like 2007.
- 19:34Sean McAllister: It's been years and years, like 15 years really, that it's just sat there.
- 19:40Sean McAllister: When the first recession hit, construction stopped on this building and it's just been sitting there rotting.
- 19:48Sean McAllister: It's changed hands a couple times.
- 19:50Dayna Roselli: That's the word.
- 19:50Dayna Roselli: They held a big press conference this week, and they say it's gonna open in the fourth quarter of 2023.
- 19:57Dayna Roselli: And it's again, we're going back to the Fountain Blue Las Vegas.
- 20:01Dayna Roselli: Because then it was supposed to be something else, then it was supposed to be the Drew, and now it's back to the Fountain Blue, which is exciting because that was originally what it was supposed to be.
- 20:10Dayna Roselli: So they're calling it in their little bio modern luxury and timeless elegance.
- 20:14Dayna Roselli: So it sounds like it's gonna be a nice resort.
- 20:17Dayna Roselli: Um it's supposed to resume, and everyone's responding with, I'll believe it when I see it.
- 20:22Dayna Roselli: Because it has been a long time, but like I hope this is the one, right?
- 20:28Sean McAllister: You know, they it's they say that there's going to be 3,200 construction jobs that are going to be created to, you know, really shift into high gear and get this building done.
- 20:41Sean McAllister: Um, 6,000 employees that are going to work there once the hotel finally opens.
- 20:47Sean McAllister: So once this is completed, it'll kind of be the the finishing touch on the north end of Las Vegas Boulevard.
- 20:54Sean McAllister: You'll have the win and encore, you'll have Fountain Blue, you'll have the Sahara, and then you get up to the Stratosphere and Resorts World and all that.
- 21:02Sean McAllister: So it really is going to tie the strip together where there has been kind of a void.
- 21:08Dayna Roselli: Listen, I have a view.
- 21:10Dayna Roselli: And my view is this unfinished building for seven years.
- 21:15Dayna Roselli: So I am excited for it to be done.
- 21:18Dayna Roselli: And let me tell you, last night I was sitting on the balcony and I noticed lights on inside.
- 21:23Dayna Roselli: I was like, I haven't seen lights on inside.
- 21:25Dayna Roselli: And I was looking on Twitter, and some of the management and stuff were doing some tours through the building.
- 21:30Dayna Roselli: So yeah, so the lights are on.
- 21:32Dayna Roselli: I am ready for it to be finished.
- 21:33Dayna Roselli: I know so many people are, and you're right, it's gonna really complete that kind of area that you know it's some parts are run down up there in the northern part of the strip.
- 21:41Dayna Roselli: And so they need to kind of bring some stuff in to get it vibrant and get all those areas functioning because there's too many spaces and pockets of you know, land that are not occupied, and it just kind of creates just sort of a bare kind of dirty look.
- 21:56Dayna Roselli: So I'm excited for this to be done.
- 21:58Sean McAllister: Yeah, it it really will be.
- 22:00Sean McAllister: Be nice to have uh a nice polished section of Las Vegas Boulevard there once the Fountain Blue opens uh toward the end of 2023.
- 22:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and this weekend, which when the podcast runs, it'll be going on.
- 22:13Dayna Roselli: But we have this big festival right around there, too, at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds.
- 22:17Dayna Roselli: That's right at Sahara and Las Vegas Boulevard, just to the south of the stratosphere, right next to the Sahara.
- 22:22Dayna Roselli: And uh that's gonna be November 12th to the 14th.
- 22:25Dayna Roselli: So by the time you listen to this, it may have already passed.
- 22:28Dayna Roselli: But huge lineup.
- 22:29Dayna Roselli: Um but just talking about things getting back in use again.
- 22:32Dayna Roselli: It'll be nice to see that area.
- 22:34Dayna Roselli: It's a really nice festival ground area get used again.
- 22:38Dayna Roselli: The lineup is huge.
- 22:39Dayna Roselli: There's tons and tons of acts uh performing all weekend long.
- 22:44Dayna Roselli: Post Malone, uh Doja Cat, I mean you name it.
- 22:47Dayna Roselli: All sorts of groups, and they have three stages going at once.
- 22:51Sean McAllister: Well, it sounds like there's gonna be plenty of entertainment for people who decide to head out there, and you're right, those festival grounds are a good place to host an event like this.
- 23:00Dayna Roselli: And now that I have an iPhone 13, Sean, I'm gonna be able to get some great close-up pictures.
- 23:04Sean McAllister: Oh, head out on the the balcony and the telephoto.
- 23:08Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 23:14Dayna Roselli: All right, and pretty soon the National Finals rodeo will be here in Las Vegas.
- 23:18Dayna Roselli: The first couple weeks of, well, it's the first 10 days, I should say, usually, of December.
- 23:23Dayna Roselli: So we're excited to have them back in town.
- 23:26Dayna Roselli: Brings in tons of people.
- 23:27Dayna Roselli: And when Sean was saying that it gets a little quiet uh toward the Christmas holiday, it does in the second half of December, but we always have that NFR, and uh that's at the beginning of December, and we've got Cowboy Christmas and all sorts of events up and down the strip.
- 23:42Sean McAllister: Yeah, and you know, the big question was as people gather for the rodeo, uh, was are vaccines going to be a requirement in order to get inside and watch the rodeo?
- 23:54Sean McAllister: And also go to some of the events surrounding the rodeo, like Cowboy Christmas.
- 23:59Sean McAllister: That's a big uh retail uh event that happens, it has everything cowboy you can imagine.
- 24:05Sean McAllister: Um and then there's parties, concerts, all that stuff going on as well.
- 24:10Sean McAllister: Um, but it was uh just announced that no, vaccines are not going to be required.
- 24:15Sean McAllister: However, you will have to wear a mask in order to get into any of the events uh surrounding the rodeo and the rodeo itself.
- 24:26Dayna Roselli: Well, yeah, I mean, right now masks are still required indoors, so we don't know when our governor's gonna lift that or make some changes.
- 24:32Dayna Roselli: Remember, there's two criteria we needed to meet.
- 24:34Dayna Roselli: So some people we're talking about possibly December 1st, so we'll have to see.
- 24:37Dayna Roselli: We're still at the beginning of November.
- 24:39Sean McAllister: And this won't be the only, you know, large-scale event uh to not require vaccines, but go with the mask requirement.
- 24:48Sean McAllister: Um Golden Knights games are the same way.
- 24:51Sean McAllister: You have to wear a mask, but they're not requiring you to show proof of a vaccine.
- 24:55Dayna Roselli: Okay, interesting.
- 24:56Dayna Roselli: Hey, a big event that happened at Allegiant Stadium, um, just to talk about Mick Jagger and the Stones, people seem to enjoy that show, and I love that he took like in all these hot spots in Vegas right before the show.
- 25:09Dayna Roselli: He posted some pictures, we have them on our Twitter, uh, of visiting downtown Las Vegas, Fremont Street.
- 25:16Dayna Roselli: I think he was at Red Rock, and then the Neon Boneyard, and then a couple other spots too that I actually didn't even I didn't recognize him, but it was just kind of like a plaza area, might have been a friend's shop or something like that.
- 25:25Dayna Roselli: I think it was a car shop.
- 25:26Sean McAllister: Yeah, Mick Jagger was taking in all the Las Vegas sites.
- 25:29Sean McAllister: It was fun to see him out and about.
- 25:31Sean McAllister: Like he was kind of in his own little element.
- 25:34Dayna Roselli: Yeah, he was.
- 25:34Dayna Roselli: And people were going, how do people not not recognize him?
- 25:36Dayna Roselli: I'm like, well, out at Red Rock.
- 25:38Dayna Roselli: I mean, and then if he's at Fremont, he had the mask on probably until he stopped to take the picture.
- 25:42Dayna Roselli: So the mask might be kind of good for these celebrities that might want to get out and about and not be seen, right?
- 25:48Dayna Roselli: Because no one can really tell it's them.
- 25:49Sean McAllister: Be a little incognito.
- 25:50Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 25:51Sean McAllister: I like that.
- 25:52Sean McAllister: Uh hey, what do you say we dive into tips?
- 25:54Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we're gonna send it over to Chris this time.
- 25:56Dayna Roselli: Let's get right to it.
- 25:59Sean McAllister: And Chris, before we let you go, um I know that you've listened to Vegas Revealed.
- 26:05Sean McAllister: You know, at the end of each episode, we give our tips in each podcast.
- 26:10Sean McAllister: From a traveler's point of view, from an international traveler's point of view, do you have any tips that would help other travelers coming into town?
- 26:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, one of the tips, and this is more for when you're on the plane, I found, is we went on a jumbo, and in certain websites, you can find out what's the best seats on the plane and everything like that.
- 26:30SPEAKER_06: And we always made the mistake, Sean, of being at the back of the plane.
- 26:34SPEAKER_06: And when you get off at Vegas, if you're an international traveller, unless you box very clever, you're gonna be a long time getting through customs.
- 26:40SPEAKER_06: So I always make sure we are sat right near where the exit is for the plane.
- 26:45SPEAKER_06: We've just done it coming away from Greece.
- 26:46SPEAKER_06: I'll go online and check it because that can be an hour, an hour and a half, just dependent, especially now with everything, you know, your credentials, you're gonna have to prove that you've been vaccinated and everything.
- 26:56SPEAKER_06: So that would be my tip.
- 26:58SPEAKER_06: And also play the slots.
- 26:59SPEAKER_06: If you're running lower money, play the slots because you know you'd always get a drink.
- 27:03SPEAKER_06: I know they're introducing where you've got to pay so much on certain casinos now, but uh, yeah, that that they're my main tips.
- 27:10SPEAKER_06: It's more we don't really come on a massive budget, so we box clever, really.
- 27:13SPEAKER_06: But yeah, they're my main two, definitely.
- 27:15Dayna Roselli: That's a great one.
- 27:16Dayna Roselli: I love that.
- 27:16Sean McAllister: That's great.
- 27:17Dayna Roselli: Really good tips.
- 27:18Dayna Roselli: Sit toward the you're right.
- 27:19Dayna Roselli: That line, it's the panic of like you're finally there, and then you've got this long line, and nobody wants to deal with that, right?
- 27:26SPEAKER_06: No, yeah, definitely not, definitely not, because you're so tight, it's a 10-hour flight from the UK.
- 27:31SPEAKER_06: So by the time you get off, I want to get on the strip, you know.
- 27:34SPEAKER_06: So yeah, definitely helps.
- 27:36Sean McAllister: And that wraps it up for episode 94.
- 27:39Sean McAllister: A quick note we are going to be headed out over to Hara's Las Vegas, where they have this new Whitney Houston hologram show.
- 27:48Sean McAllister: Whitney back up on stage in all her glory as a hologram.
- 27:54Sean McAllister: So we're interested to check this out and and let you know our thoughts.
- 27:58Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and so many people have said, I don't know how I feel about that.
- 28:00Dayna Roselli: I mean, so I'm interested to see how they're gonna do it, if you'll if I'll love it, if it'll be like creepy.
- 28:08Dayna Roselli: I'm just gonna be honest.
- 28:09Dayna Roselli: Like, I don't know.
- 28:10Dayna Roselli: I don't know.
- 28:11Dayna Roselli: So, but I love Whitney Houston music.
- 28:14Dayna Roselli: Um, I have a fabulous videotape of me lip-syncing How Will I Know when I tried out for putting on the hits.
- 28:21Dayna Roselli: Do you remember that show?
- 28:22Sean McAllister: Putting on the hits, are you kidding me?
- 28:25Sean McAllister: Oh my god.
- 28:26Dayna Roselli: I have I have a tape, Sean.
- 28:28Dayna Roselli: I will show it to you of me doing How Will I Know by Whitney Houston.
- 28:32Dayna Roselli: I did not make it on the show, but putting on the hits was a lip was it just from in our area of in Roger?
- 28:40Dayna Roselli: No, I think it was a national show.
- 28:41Sean McAllister: I think it was national, but but it could have been just local too.
- 28:45Dayna Roselli: I knew if I didn't tell you about that, that you would.
- 28:48Sean McAllister: Oh my god.
- 28:49Dayna Roselli: That was a great show.
- 28:49Dayna Roselli: It was all lip-syncing, remember?
- 28:52Sean McAllister: Bowling for dollars and putting on the hits.
- 28:54Dayna Roselli: I was already.
- 28:55Sean McAllister: You had TV ambitions long before your your career began, Rosalie.
- 29:01Dayna Roselli: All right, we'll dig that out at some point.
- 29:03Dayna Roselli: By the way, um, Chris sent us a picture of his tattoo.
- 29:06Dayna Roselli: We interviewed Chris earlier from the UK.
- 29:07Dayna Roselli: His Vegas tattoo, so maybe we'll put that up on our Instagram story too, in case you're interested to see how it's coming along.
- 29:13Sean McAllister: And a reminder, you can find uh some great merchandise to keep you warm during the winter months here in Las Vegas on our Vegas Revealed merchandise store.
- 29:22Sean McAllister: We have a link down in our show notes, along with a link to donate to the podcast if you'd like to help financially uh support and keep the podcast going.
- 29:32Dayna Roselli: Thank you for joining us and have a great week, everyone.
- 29:35Dayna Roselli: Hope to see you soon.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: Let's go ahead and go.
