Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Where do you think we're going at this point?
- 0:02Speaker 2: Like, I know we talked about where we want the magic,
- 0:05Speaker 2: we want this and that, but based on what we have,
- 0:09Speaker 2: where would we end up?
- 0:10Speaker 3: Father-son road trip in the station wagon.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And welcome to another.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Episode of For All Nerds. It is your host, Tatiana King, a.k.a.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Tesseract Thompson, a.k.a. Doc Aki, a.k.a. Fast the Destroyer, Wicked
- 0:35Speaker 2: Witch of the Westview, and Dark Chocolate Phoenix.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And today I am joined by my lovely co-host.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Hi, everyone. It's Portia, a.k.a. Raekwanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Stay with
- 0:47Speaker 3: the Bag of the Harkness, a.k.a. Maester Pete, make him say, hmmm. AKA,
- 0:55Speaker 3: let's get into this vision quest.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know if that's a good side or
- 1:01Speaker 2: a bad side, but we about to find out. In
- 1:04Speaker 2: the meantime, love to our brother DJ Ben Hameen, who
- 1:07Speaker 2: has got a case of the con crud, but he
- 1:10Speaker 2: will return in Avengers Doom Day, so you'll see him soon.
- 1:13Speaker 2: But let's get right into it. Like you said, we
- 1:15Speaker 2: are back to discuss and review this time Vision Quest.
- 1:20Speaker 2: That is the big show that's up now on Disney +.
- 1:23Speaker 2: The first two episodes have dropped. We've both seen it.
- 1:27Speaker 2: We've both had some time to marinate on it. And
- 1:30Speaker 2: before we get into the details of both episodes, first, Portia,
- 1:33Speaker 2: just in general, what did you think about this show?
- 1:38Speaker 3: I think episode one took... I liked that both Agatha
- 1:43Speaker 3: All Along and Vision Quest kind of stuck you off
- 1:47Speaker 3: in the same kind of vibe of what we got
- 1:50Speaker 3: in WandaVision, of that having a sitcom style or whatever.
- 1:54Speaker 3: It was not just a fluke or whatever. That's kind
- 1:57Speaker 3: of like... the people in this universe, in this little
- 2:00Speaker 3: pocket of the universe, there's something about that setup and
- 2:04Speaker 3: structure that appeals to storytelling for them. And so you
- 2:08Speaker 3: get that nod back to it in Vision Quest. It's
- 2:10Speaker 3: not as direct as it may have been in both
- 2:12Speaker 3: of those seasons. Like, we had the mayor of Easttown
- 2:16Speaker 3: kind of referenced in the first episode of Agatha Harkness or,
- 2:20Speaker 3: you know. So with this one, like, having that, but with, like,
- 2:24Speaker 3: a tech flow... was very aligned with who Vision is
- 2:29Speaker 3: and who we've seen him grow into as a character
- 2:32Speaker 3: over time. So I appreciated that. And the second episode
- 2:36Speaker 3: also had its highlights and lowlights. So generally, I think
- 2:40Speaker 3: that it's nice to see cohesion. I think that's the
- 2:45Speaker 3: biggest thing that I'm seeing here that I've appreciated. And
- 2:49Speaker 3: it's nicely, because of the cohesion, it's nice to be
- 2:51Speaker 3: back in this universe. Because I remember whenever we were
- 2:54Speaker 3: reviewing Agatha all along, that was something that was just
- 2:57Speaker 3: like a... It was a good time. And being reminded
- 2:59Speaker 3: of the good time there, it's like, okay, let's get
- 3:02Speaker 3: into that energy again.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Would you say you enjoyed it?
- 3:05Speaker 1: You're enjoying it so far?
- 3:07Speaker 3: Or you're not sure?
- 3:08Speaker 1: Where are you at?
- 3:10Speaker 3: I'm reserving my judgment.
- 3:12Speaker 1: You're still reserving your judgment.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Okay, so the first two episodes have not captured you
- 3:16Speaker 2: enough to... say yay or nay right away.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Right. Nah, like, they're good. Like, but I feel like
- 3:21Speaker 3: that for most things, I think. Like, I... Let me
- 3:24Speaker 3: get to episode, like, four. Like, let's get halfway through
- 3:27Speaker 3: the season or something so I can be like, okay, like,
- 3:29Speaker 3: this is how I actually feel about this season. Okay, okay.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Um, I have past judgment already. Um, I'm having a
- 3:37Speaker 2: good time with it, actually. I.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Like you, I went into this. Well, first of all,
- 3:42Speaker 2: I didn't even watch. I didn't go back and rewatch
- 3:44Speaker 2: WandaVision nor Agatha all along. I just didn't think there
- 3:47Speaker 2: was a reason to because they're always going to kind
- 3:49Speaker 2: of do a quick rehash in the beginning to let
- 3:51Speaker 2: you know where everybody stands. That thing that is one
- 3:55Speaker 2: thing you can rely upon now with the Disney Plus
- 3:57Speaker 2: shows that they will get you up to speed because
- 3:59Speaker 2: you're talking about two, three, sometimes four years in between series,
- 4:03Speaker 2: especially connecting tissue series like this. Vision Quest is supposed
- 4:07Speaker 2: to be the third piece of this trilogy project. And
- 4:11Speaker 2: the third and final piece, I should say, between Rod
- 4:13Speaker 2: and the Vision and Akatho all along. So as mentioned,
- 4:15Speaker 2: it's been a while since you really got into all
- 4:17Speaker 2: of that. And there's a lot of material to cover.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So I'm really glad in the very beginning of When
- 4:22Speaker 2: episode one titled No Strings, that they just caught us
- 4:25Speaker 2: up to where we need to be. That said, I
- 4:28Speaker 2: was pleasantly surprised. I really liked, as you mentioned, that
- 4:34Speaker 2: it gave you somewhat of a similar flavor to Agatha
- 4:38Speaker 2: O'Long and WandaVision. Just the fact that there's some... form
- 4:42Speaker 2: of make-believe here, right? And when I say that, I
- 4:44Speaker 2: don't necessarily mean to make-believe town and make-believe people. I
- 4:46Speaker 2: mean the fact that you're playing in the imagination, you're
- 4:49Speaker 2: dabbling in constructs, if you will, of reality, but this
- 4:54Speaker 2: time is in the head of vision, right? And what's
- 4:57Speaker 2: going on in his quantum processors and who's going on
- 5:00Speaker 2: in his quantum processors and exactly how he is negotiating
- 5:04Speaker 2: life at this point. This, for everyone who hasn't figured
- 5:08Speaker 2: it out by now, this is not the vision you
- 5:10Speaker 2: knew before.
- 5:11Speaker 1: This is not the vision.
- 5:12Speaker 2: That Thanos killed. As you know, a lot has occurred
- 5:17Speaker 2: since that time. This is not the vision, even with
- 5:19Speaker 2: the Infinity Stone.
- 5:20Speaker 1: In his head, right?
- 5:20Speaker 2: This is a copy, but has enough of the... Well,
- 5:26Speaker 2: really all, right?
- 5:27Speaker 1: All of the memories of the original vision and all
- 5:30Speaker 1: of the.
- 5:32Speaker 2: alleged emotions of it but he this one can't quite
- 5:35Speaker 2: process the emotions and that's the framework that they put
- 5:39Speaker 2: you in that this is vision this version of vision
- 5:42Speaker 2: vision the gray if you will this is him trying
- 5:45Speaker 2: to understand his humanity right because vision the original vision
- 5:51Speaker 2: that you knew like he almost like developed a piece
- 5:54Speaker 2: of humanity within him right and then when wanda you
- 5:59Speaker 2: recreated him right reconstructed a version of him that was
- 6:03Speaker 2: just almost like another piece of him it makes me
- 6:06Speaker 2: think of things like you know when they say like
- 6:08Speaker 2: there's like a when you get a diamond right it's
- 6:10Speaker 2: actually from a larger diamond and they just cut off
- 6:12Speaker 2: almost cut off pieces of smaller diamonds like but it's
- 6:15Speaker 2: all from the same source that's what it reminds me
- 6:18Speaker 2: of like there's all these different versions all from the
- 6:21Speaker 2: same source but they're Different and yet still the same
- 6:25Speaker 2: thing at the same time. It's a conundrum that they
- 6:27Speaker 2: revisit often in this show so far.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I think it's also fitting, like as you were talking
- 6:31Speaker 3: about it, like how, like the constructs of it all,
- 6:35Speaker 3: how of the life and the fantasy of it all,
- 6:38Speaker 3: that Wanda is the reality witch, right? And so we've
- 6:44Speaker 3: been seeing different realities in each of these parts of
- 6:47Speaker 3: the trilogy, right? What I got the most out of
- 6:51Speaker 3: this These first couple of episodes is that one, as
- 6:55Speaker 3: you were saying, he has the memories, but he doesn't
- 6:59Speaker 3: have the experience. And whenever you're holding on to something
- 7:02Speaker 3: that you don't quite have the experience with, you just
- 7:06Speaker 3: kind of know how to do it, but the experience
- 7:09Speaker 3: is just new to you, and you don't even know
- 7:11Speaker 3: if you enjoyed the experience the first time around. You're
- 7:13Speaker 3: just kind of like, okay. I think your classic... amnesia
- 7:19Speaker 3: tale that you've seen in soap operas or like if
- 7:22Speaker 3: you're into the asian dramas like i am like into
- 7:24Speaker 3: the dramas and you just like you can see the
- 7:26Speaker 3: character trying to deal with like am i stepping in
- 7:30Speaker 3: like you like someone's walking in snow and you're stepping
- 7:32Speaker 3: into their footprints like do you actually want to take
- 7:34Speaker 3: this path or do you just feel like you have
- 7:37Speaker 3: to pay honor to it and even with whom he's
- 7:40Speaker 3: keeping in his processors like that's also kind of like
- 7:43Speaker 3: it does he really feel like he wants those people
- 7:45Speaker 3: there or is that because he feels like beholden to
- 7:48Speaker 3: like who he is and like where he is in
- 7:51Speaker 3: the chain of the process and he wants to have
- 7:53Speaker 3: them there like where's responsibility in that where's duty obligation
- 7:56Speaker 3: where's actually desire actual desire does he actually enjoy these
- 8:01Speaker 3: other ais right um that's one part of it and
- 8:04Speaker 3: i think in having this discussion about the ai and
- 8:07Speaker 3: the family of it all it naturally calls to wanda
- 8:11Speaker 3: having wanted a family of it all, which means that
- 8:14Speaker 3: we have to go down the path with Wanda constructing
- 8:16Speaker 3: a family, and that's how we get to this homie
- 8:18Speaker 3: of it all. And so I love that they're all interwoven.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I also enjoy the fact that, like, as we're talking about, like,
- 8:27Speaker 3: how Vision is processing his life, I'm also seeing it
- 8:30Speaker 3: as how we all tend to wear masks. Like, even
- 8:34Speaker 3: if we don't even... We don't necessarily sometimes... notice that
- 8:40Speaker 3: we're creating masks, masquerade for ourselves. We're just like, oh,
- 8:43Speaker 3: this is the person I have to show up as
- 8:44Speaker 3: when I'm out in public. Like everyone expects me to
- 8:47Speaker 3: have it together. So this is who I am when
- 8:48Speaker 3: I'm out in public, when I'm back at home or
- 8:50Speaker 3: with them, with my friends, or when I'm with people
- 8:52Speaker 3: I feel safe with, I'm going to show how much
- 8:55Speaker 3: of a mess I am. But what people are looking
- 8:57Speaker 3: for me like in public, this is who I am.
- 8:59Speaker 3: And it kind of seems like that's who vision is
- 9:03Speaker 3: a lot. And that's even how the other AIs in his, in,
- 9:08Speaker 3: you know, in his mind are kind of like playing
- 9:10Speaker 3: around with things. They're like, we're, we're not sure we're experimenting.
- 9:14Speaker 3: We're figuring this out. And they're all somehow vision at
- 9:17Speaker 3: the same time. So it's, we are grouped, but in
- 9:21Speaker 3: the most like veiny and like exploratory AI of ways.
- 9:27Speaker 3: And I love that, like, Jarvis is kind of the
- 9:31Speaker 3: heart of it all. And then that goes. What does
- 9:34Speaker 3: the heart do? Why they do this?
- 9:37Speaker 2: Not my Uncle Jarvis.
- 9:41Speaker 3: No.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Jarvis? Y'all George RR Martin me episode two already. I
- 9:48Speaker 2: will say, and here's the thing, this is the only
- 9:51Speaker 2: AI I acknowledge, okay? These would only be the AIs
- 9:54Speaker 2: I would ever announce besides that and Allen Iverson. These AI, well,
- 9:58Speaker 2: first of all, and this is... is why I say
- 10:01Speaker 2: that I'm enjoying it a lot. Like even in this
- 10:04Speaker 2: early stage, I'm enjoying this a lot. Shout out to
- 10:06Speaker 2: Terry Matalas or Matalas. I apologize for butchering your name,
- 10:10Speaker 2: but it's, He is a showrunner and writer for this series.
- 10:14Speaker 2: And the way that this series already is going very
- 10:19Speaker 2: deep into like psychological trauma, you know, the psyche, multiple personality,
- 10:24Speaker 2: like there's so much by way of psychology in this
- 10:29Speaker 2: show alone.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And yes, we've seen in WandaVision, we've seen it in
- 10:32Speaker 1: Agatha all along.
- 10:33Speaker 2: This particularly scratches a particular itch for me because it
- 10:37Speaker 2: dives so deeply into tech as well. And it's very,
- 10:41Speaker 2: strongly woven into from the words that, you know, yes,
- 10:45Speaker 2: they are AIs, but the words that they are using,
- 10:47Speaker 2: the syntax of their conversations, right? Jarvis, Friday, Dummy, you,
- 10:54Speaker 2: and Edith, who are the dummies that we'll get to
- 10:56Speaker 2: in a minute, but Ultron, right? Like, just the way
- 10:59Speaker 2: that they move, the way that they interact with each other,
- 11:02Speaker 2: and then the fact that these are all also within
- 11:04Speaker 2: Vision's head, if so you will, like the little house
- 11:08Speaker 2: in his head, that he's contemplating and trying to understand
- 11:12Speaker 2: what he is and who he is. And like you
- 11:14Speaker 2: just said, what is his purpose and how does he
- 11:17Speaker 2: arrive at the next step? Like, is he supposed to
- 11:20Speaker 2: be this guy that he has all of this background on,
- 11:24Speaker 2: or is he in fact his own thing? As they say,
- 11:26Speaker 2: is he the ship of Theseus, right? Is he just,
- 11:30Speaker 2: is he even that thing anymore? And I just love
- 11:32Speaker 2: that conversation that keeps happening throughout the, at least the
- 11:35Speaker 2: last two, at least first two episodes, rather. And it's,
- 11:39Speaker 2: It really makes you question yourself sometimes, too, right? Like,
- 11:43Speaker 2: they said with humans that you could be... They said
- 11:46Speaker 2: this in, I think, the second episode. They said humans
- 11:48Speaker 2: can be 10 people in a day, which is absolute truth, right?
- 11:51Speaker 1: Especially as Black people. We know that. That's code switching, right?
- 11:55Speaker 1: We can be multiple people.
- 11:57Speaker 3: W.E. DuBois and the whole double consciousness.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Double consciousness.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Like.
- 12:03Speaker 2: that is very very very black coded in general so
- 12:07Speaker 2: like that's just interesting that I see the I see
- 12:11Speaker 2: the parallels between my own life and a lot of
- 12:14Speaker 2: the things happening here so which is why it makes
- 12:17Speaker 2: it that much for me more fun and interesting to
- 12:19Speaker 2: watch because I'm just like I see what he's doing
- 12:21Speaker 2: there's a lot and there's a lot of things in
- 12:24Speaker 2: terms of let's just just easter eggs and in terms
- 12:28Speaker 2: of Thoughts like like really good trains of thought that
- 12:32Speaker 2: lets you go to different places. And again, in terms
- 12:35Speaker 2: of philosophy, in terms of what you think this show
- 12:38Speaker 2: is going to express to you. And then add all
- 12:41Speaker 2: that up with a character that hopefully when people watching
- 12:44Speaker 2: that you actually liked and enjoy. And I think that's
- 12:46Speaker 2: also really important. You have to have light vision to
- 12:48Speaker 2: begin with. even this version of Vision, which is slightly different,
- 12:52Speaker 2: you really do have to have enjoyed that character. You
- 12:55Speaker 2: have to enjoy Paul Bettany and his delivery of this
- 12:58Speaker 2: character to really get into it. If you never really
- 13:00Speaker 2: effed with Vision in the first place, you might have
- 13:03Speaker 2: a bad time because this is literally going to surround
- 13:05Speaker 2: all him. And I know some people, some people act
- 13:08Speaker 2: funny about him, especially this version of Vision that is,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I would say, much, much more ruthless.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I will say that I did not, Vision has never
- 13:18Speaker 3: been one of my top Avengers or, like, characters in
- 13:23Speaker 3: the Marvel franchise. I think a lot of the time
- 13:25Speaker 3: that they were spending building up he and Wanda as
- 13:28Speaker 3: a couple, I was just like, why are we doing
- 13:30Speaker 3: this on the side? And it was WandaVision where I
- 13:35Speaker 3: was like, well, I could kind of, like, him saying
- 13:38Speaker 3: the whole what is a grief but love, like, that really, that,
- 13:42Speaker 3: and I love that line. I was like, the show
- 13:46Speaker 3: recognizes how, like, Like they did not let that line die.
- 13:50Speaker 3: They were like, that is like the ship of Theseus
- 13:53Speaker 3: and that line are like crucial elements of his personality
- 13:57Speaker 3: that they know that the audience like really like enjoyed
- 14:00Speaker 3: and ate up. And they're like, we're not going to
- 14:02Speaker 3: let that go. Of course, we're going to bring that
- 14:03Speaker 3: in and we're going to hook y'all into that. And
- 14:06Speaker 3: whenever it comes to his season. So I appreciate kind
- 14:10Speaker 3: of like the fan service of that, of like, they
- 14:12Speaker 3: know that they already have us with that. And they're
- 14:14Speaker 3: kind of like drawing us in with those little, those breadcrumbs. Um,
- 14:18Speaker 3: I'm sure there's people who also kind of like, you know,
- 14:22Speaker 3: cringe at that kind of, that level of fan service
- 14:25Speaker 3: of like, oh, y'all are only giving us what you
- 14:26Speaker 3: know that we like.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Blah, blah, blah.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Everyone likes this, whatever. Cool. I think because of the
- 14:31Speaker 3: psychological components of it, what we're seeing is like, um,
- 14:36Speaker 3: like the grief story ongoing, especially because there's questions about
- 14:40Speaker 3: Wanda and everyone's understanding of her new dad. Um, and
- 14:43Speaker 3: how she was the one who tied, brought the family
- 14:45Speaker 3: together and now we have these We know what Billy
- 14:49Speaker 3: has gone through. And now we're seeing what Tommy has
- 14:52Speaker 3: gone through. And that's traumatic. And what Vision has gone
- 14:55Speaker 3: through is traumatic. And we see even... The fact that
- 15:00Speaker 3: he explodes at... Ultron for bringing up Westview in his, like,
- 15:08Speaker 3: his little theater, his mind.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, talk about like, like what double
- 15:13Speaker 2: and triple entendres, the mind theater, right? Like, go ahead.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I'm sorry. It's like, Terry, you, you doing the thing.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Go ahead. Yeah. But like, like we see him, like
- 15:22Speaker 3: all these components that show that like how traumatized everyone
- 15:25Speaker 3: is in this instance, like Jarvis is very like hesitant
- 15:28Speaker 3: to do things. And he's kind of overworking as the,
- 15:31Speaker 3: oldest brother and the one who is, like, he's taking
- 15:35Speaker 3: it upon himself to run every security protocol possible. And
- 15:39Speaker 3: the whole time Ultron is, like, just messing with that
- 15:42Speaker 3: firewall left and right with his pigeons, aka emails that
- 15:47Speaker 3: we learn about. The carrier pigeons, right? And then we, like,
- 15:54Speaker 3: the thought I was having a lot about the psychology
- 15:56Speaker 3: component was with the you know, the Theseus component is
- 16:03Speaker 3: like father, like son, like Billy and Tommy are both
- 16:08Speaker 3: basically the ship of Theseus because they are human boys
- 16:12Speaker 3: who are no longer who they were. They are now
- 16:16Speaker 3: the spirit of these like boys that Wanda constructed. And
- 16:22Speaker 3: so are they, so that's the question. Are there, is there, Tommy,
- 16:26Speaker 3: Thomas Spencer? Or is he someone, like, he's had to
- 16:29Speaker 3: deal with that and that's something that's, like, struggling for
- 16:31Speaker 3: him as Vision is struggling with who he is and, like,
- 16:34Speaker 3: which Vision is he? As Billy was struggling with who
- 16:37Speaker 3: his parents were as a human boy versus, like, who
- 16:42Speaker 3: he is as Billy. So, like, it's very interesting how
- 16:45Speaker 3: the tale of the father is the same as the
- 16:48Speaker 3: tale of the sons.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I was going to say, and both Billy and Tommy died.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Like the original versions of them were, were in fact dead.
- 16:57Speaker 2: And they're the, through the magic, just like a daddy
- 17:01Speaker 2: and the magic of, uh, Billy, uh, placing their souls
- 17:06Speaker 2: into the... And remember, like, if you remember at the
- 17:08Speaker 2: end of WandaVision when she was wrapping it up and saying, well,
- 17:12Speaker 2: everybody gotta go, Billy being having the... You know, he
- 17:16Speaker 2: has the chaos magic. He's the one who inherited the
- 17:18Speaker 2: chaos magic. Tommy inherited the super speed just like his uncle, right?
- 17:22Speaker 2: And Billy, the two boys was like, well, we trying
- 17:25Speaker 2: to be outside, right? So to have that level of
- 17:29Speaker 2: will to then, you know, disperse or find another... place
- 17:34Speaker 2: to deposit their souls is wild in the first place
- 17:37Speaker 2: and then to what you're saying just the fact that
- 17:39Speaker 2: now we're seeing this journey this identity crisis and we've
- 17:43Speaker 2: seen it already a little bit with Billy but to
- 17:45Speaker 2: see that identity crisis with Tommy, to see the identity
- 17:49Speaker 2: crisis with Vision, to see that identity crisis as.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Even with the AIs and stuff. With Ultron, especially. With Ultron,
- 17:58Speaker 1: my God.
- 17:59Speaker 2: He was going through it in his own movie, right?
- 18:02Speaker 2: No strings. And that's also the name of the very
- 18:05Speaker 2: first episode, No Strings, because they... it's a lot of
- 18:09Speaker 2: entendres here, right? And it's trying to lead you into
- 18:12Speaker 2: a space of thought where you can question the realities, right?
- 18:16Speaker 1: Question your own realities, question your own.
- 18:19Speaker 2: What is real? What is, you know, what is some,
- 18:21Speaker 2: what's the story that you make up in your head
- 18:23Speaker 2: to get through your day? I think that why, again,
- 18:28Speaker 2: that approach and the writing is really what's driving my
- 18:31Speaker 2: interest here. And also just to add on, Terry wrote
- 18:35Speaker 2: a lot for Star Trek. And Star Trek is one
- 18:37Speaker 2: of my best fandoms. So, I mean, so obviously, and again,
- 18:40Speaker 2: the tech component is all there. It's fantastic for me.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I'm just saying that.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I wanted to make sure that we like captured like
- 18:48Speaker 2: the things that actually occurred in these episodes that were
- 18:52Speaker 2: of particular importance. The fact that You know, Vision, he,
- 18:57Speaker 2: as mentioned, identity crisis. He's trying to pass off as
- 18:59Speaker 2: a human working in a pub. And he goes back
- 19:02Speaker 2: to a pub in Edinburgh where apparently that's where him
- 19:05Speaker 2: and Wanda used to hang out when they was an item.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Apparently they also watched reruns of Sanford and Son. Right!
- 19:13Speaker 3: And I was thinking that like, what?
- 19:15Speaker 1: I guess girl.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Like, I mean, he was into it. I was like
- 19:18Speaker 2: out of any show. Okay, great.
- 19:20Speaker 3: But my question is like, I'm like, is this like
- 19:22Speaker 3: response to critique about the sitcoms that were used as
- 19:25Speaker 3: like references and like, people were like, there ain't no
- 19:29Speaker 3: black shows over here. And that's, they were like, Oh,
- 19:31Speaker 3: let's put a black show here. Sitcom. We'll see. I
- 19:34Speaker 3: think it also reminded me of our conversation of Westview
- 19:38Speaker 3: versus Rushville. And like, when the guys from Because We
- 19:43Speaker 3: Can were saying like, oh, well, I would just tell Wanda, like, hey,
- 19:46Speaker 3: can we at least get a different world over here? Like,
- 19:48Speaker 3: can I live it single? Like, it's funny if, like,
- 19:51Speaker 3: is that a request that someone didn't get to put
- 19:53Speaker 3: into that season, and now they're just kind of putting
- 19:55Speaker 3: it into this season? Or maybe we're going to see
- 19:57Speaker 3: a reference back to Sanford and Son, or just really
- 19:59Speaker 3: the scene where I saw someone, they did talk about
- 20:04Speaker 3: the fact that, like, the line that is said there is,
- 20:08Speaker 3: This is all at Disneyland. All the things that he
- 20:11Speaker 3: was talking about, you could find it in Disneyland. It
- 20:13Speaker 3: just reminded me of the fact that there is so
- 20:16Speaker 3: much that is a facade in the show. And even
- 20:22Speaker 3: his life as a bar hand at this pub is
- 20:27Speaker 3: a facade. And Disneyland has all those things, but it's
- 20:31Speaker 3: not the original thing. They have... They have Epcot and
- 20:35Speaker 3: Disney World, and it's, like, of all the different countries
- 20:37Speaker 3: around the world, but it's not the country around the world.
- 20:39Speaker 3: It's just representation of that, right? So I think there's
- 20:44Speaker 3: a lot. I'm looking at the different things, the nuggets
- 20:47Speaker 3: that were being given in these early episodes, and I'm like, okay, like,
- 20:51Speaker 3: what are we supposed to take out of it? Because
- 20:53Speaker 3: it's very clear to see, like.
- 20:55Speaker 1: The reality.
- 20:56Speaker 3: And again, Wanda is the reality witch, like, it's interesting
- 21:00Speaker 3: to see how much that is still component of the show,
- 21:03Speaker 3: even without her in it directly.
- 21:05Speaker 2: As mentioned, this is like supposed to be the final
- 21:08Speaker 2: installment in the trilogy.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:09Speaker 2: So I'm, I'm even though it was developed at different times,
- 21:12Speaker 2: just again, it was, it's sequential still. So like there
- 21:16Speaker 2: are pieces that bleed into each of the series.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Right. And, And Jack, the one who produced WandaVision and
- 21:27Speaker 3: Agatha Long, also executive produced this. So the cohesion is
- 21:31Speaker 3: clear here.
- 21:32Speaker 1: The cohesion is clear. The setup is clear.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:36Speaker 2: One thing, and just speaking of setup, one thing I
- 21:38Speaker 2: just forgot to mention, I just love how they set
- 21:41Speaker 2: up the, what, what's supposed to be like the main stage,
- 21:44Speaker 2: which is visions within vision's head or within his deep
- 21:47Speaker 2: in his quantum processors. Like I just love how they
- 21:50Speaker 2: set up that house and everything in it.
- 21:53Speaker 1: It gave, I don't know if you've read Tom King's
- 21:55Speaker 1: run of the vision.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Uh, I highly recommend that comic highly, highly, highly recommend
- 22:00Speaker 2: that comment. It's, Basically, it served as really the inspiration
- 22:05Speaker 2: for WandaVision. And the book is basically Vision going out
- 22:09Speaker 2: to the suburbs and creating his own family, creating his
- 22:13Speaker 2: own thing about what his life would be like if
- 22:16Speaker 2: he was a human and had a, quote, normal life
- 22:19Speaker 2: out in the suburbs.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Absolute incredible run, incredible read. Definitely recommend reading that. But
- 22:25Speaker 2: when you read that and you also see the art
- 22:27Speaker 2: in that, I saw... I still saw a lot of
- 22:29Speaker 2: the influences here in the show. Like, it's literally like
- 22:34Speaker 2: digital meets a Norman Rockwell painting meets, you know, all
- 22:38Speaker 2: these other shows. And what I really liked about the
- 22:41Speaker 2: setup is it's a lot of... Not just Easter eggs,
- 22:44Speaker 2: but very tongue-in-cheek representations and things like... You saw the
- 22:48Speaker 2: cans of firewall that he was supposed to be eating, right?
- 22:51Speaker 2: Or security, things he was supposed to be using to
- 22:55Speaker 2: take care of himself.
- 22:57Speaker 1: The way that the.
- 22:59Speaker 2: There's one scene where he's in like a living room
- 23:01Speaker 2: or whatever, and the fireplace is digital, like it's all pixelated.
- 23:05Speaker 1: And then there's things that are real, but then change
- 23:07Speaker 1: within the scene.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Like I thought and this goes out to sound design
- 23:10Speaker 2: as well. There was the one scene where Friday was
- 23:13Speaker 2: talking to Vision and they were like, it looked like
- 23:16Speaker 2: they were in like a regular room. And then you
- 23:18Speaker 2: hear like this kind of computerized sound. And the scene changes,
- 23:23Speaker 2: like literally the frame changes slightly. And then behind Friday,
- 23:25Speaker 2: all of a sudden is a library. And then Vision
- 23:28Speaker 2: has on completely different clothes. And it's like, it's a
- 23:30Speaker 2: blink and you missed it type of thing where you
- 23:32Speaker 2: really have to pay attention to the details of a scene.
- 23:35Speaker 2: You really have to pay attention to what's going on.
- 23:37Speaker 2: It's literally changing at will. I think that's really incredible.
- 23:41Speaker 2: And also just lends back to the whimsy that was WandaVision, right?
- 23:46Speaker 2: Like just to be... And I think that's why I
- 23:49Speaker 2: like it so much so far, because it's giving me
- 23:53Speaker 2: infusion of imagery and imagination. Like it's not just another show.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Like it's giving me story. It's giving me something that's
- 24:01Speaker 2: that's even though it's a I don't want to say traditional, but,
- 24:04Speaker 2: you know, it's been like 20 years of the same character.
- 24:07Speaker 2: It's it's more than just the regular Marvel story, which
- 24:10Speaker 2: is why I'm like I'm really messing with it right now.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I also appreciated that, like, when you're seeing the
- 24:16Speaker 3: setup for the house and, like, what it looks like
- 24:18Speaker 3: on the outside, the facade and everything, you're also seeing that, like,
- 24:21Speaker 3: how much space that vision has allowed for each AI
- 24:27Speaker 3: to have its own say and what they're bringing to
- 24:31Speaker 3: the story. Yeah. The house doesn't look like one idea
- 24:34Speaker 3: of a house. It's like a couple different pieces of
- 24:36Speaker 3: people's ideas of what a house should look like. And
- 24:37Speaker 3: it's like, so that means that not one person dictated
- 24:40Speaker 3: what the house looked like. Everyone had a role in
- 24:43Speaker 3: saying what it is. And they still do. They still
- 24:44Speaker 3: are exploring different ways of how that works. And I
- 24:47Speaker 3: love that. It shows how Vision has opened his processors
- 24:52Speaker 3: to them. And he's not being as restrictive as he
- 24:56Speaker 3: probably should be for some of them. At least with
- 25:00Speaker 3: how he's doing things. So I love that. And the leaks,
- 25:04Speaker 3: the data leaks, I thought that was really inspiring. It
- 25:07Speaker 3: was so good. And I... It's interesting that, like, Vision's
- 25:13Speaker 3: kind of response to Jarvis being fixated on, like, we
- 25:17Speaker 3: need to be thoughtful and considerate. Like, this is, like,
- 25:20Speaker 3: there's a breach. We need to do something about it.
- 25:22Speaker 3: We need to, like, tighten up. We need to get
- 25:24Speaker 3: our stuff together. And I'm like, I don't know necessarily
- 25:26Speaker 3: that Vision... Because you know how sometimes characters are... you
- 25:30Speaker 3: can tell they're ready for a change, but instead of
- 25:32Speaker 3: them seeking the change, they're just kind of like allowing
- 25:35Speaker 3: things to happen around. Yes. Yes. And that's how it
- 25:38Speaker 3: feels in real life too. That's how it seems like
- 25:40Speaker 3: vision is, is moving. He's like, It's kind of like...
- 25:44Speaker 3: He's like, oh.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I'm curious.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Let's see what the virus-laden package has.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Like, you know better.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:51Speaker 3: It's funny because I was reading something earlier that I
- 25:53Speaker 3: was like, it's making me laugh because I'm like, this is... Whatever.
- 25:57Speaker 3: How people are like, whenever you are not... doing birth
- 26:00Speaker 3: control-related things, and you're opening yourself up to have a child,
- 26:03Speaker 3: and people are like, oh, it just happened.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Like, no, babes.
- 26:06Speaker 3: No!
- 26:07Speaker 1: You allowed that to happen.
- 26:09Speaker 3: You did not take the precautions to not have a child,
- 26:12Speaker 3: and now you have a child. Like, it doesn't just happen,
- 26:15Speaker 3: you know?
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:16Speaker 3: And that's basically what's happening with, like, with Ultron, you know,
- 26:20Speaker 3: being able to do what he does, and with the
- 26:25Speaker 3: data leaks and all those kind of things, and even
- 26:28Speaker 3: though Vision does respond kind of aggressively to Ultron at
- 26:34Speaker 3: some point, he doesn't really, like, he doesn't shut him
- 26:38Speaker 3: out all the way. He doesn't, like, boot him or anything.
- 26:41Speaker 3: And Ultron says that. He says, like, the other version
- 26:43Speaker 3: of you would have done that. And it's funny.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Would he?
- 26:48Speaker 3: Right. But it's also funny because it's, like, maybe, like,
- 26:52Speaker 3: maybe the other version of him that Ultron fought... might
- 26:58Speaker 3: have done that. But by the time he was, like,
- 27:02Speaker 3: in Wakanda, he wouldn't have done that, right?
- 27:04Speaker 1: That's what I'm thinking.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Like, there's two different versions. But the one that Ultron
- 27:08Speaker 3: interacted with was the one that booted him out, right? Yes. So...
- 27:12Speaker 3: I think that it's a really interesting storytelling thing that's
- 27:16Speaker 3: going on here. And especially when it comes to like,
- 27:19Speaker 3: what does Ultron ultimately want here? Yes. Because I don't
- 27:24Speaker 3: think that it's as simple as he wants to be
- 27:28Speaker 3: the one who takes over Vision's body or he wants
- 27:32Speaker 3: to be... I don't think it's that simple.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Is it just freedom?
- 27:34Speaker 2: Because that actually was the question I was going to
- 27:36Speaker 2: ask you since you mentioned Ultron, just what is, because
- 27:40Speaker 2: he's clearly, well, as of now, he is one of
- 27:42Speaker 2: the antagonists of the story. So what is his ultimate
- 27:46Speaker 2: goal and purpose? And yes, we're trying to guess so early,
- 27:49Speaker 2: but like, Is it just simply freedom, right? Like that's
- 27:53Speaker 2: right in front of us, but what's beyond that, right?
- 27:55Speaker 2: Because at the end of the day, that's Ultron has
- 27:58Speaker 2: always said that, you know, I just want, I don't
- 28:00Speaker 2: want any strings. Remember, he's not a puppet. He's not,
- 28:03Speaker 2: he wasn't, he didn't want to be bound before. He's
- 28:05Speaker 2: not going to get bound again this time, especially in
- 28:07Speaker 2: Ultron's head, excuse me, in Vision's head.
- 28:10Speaker 1: So what, what is he looking for?
- 28:13Speaker 3: I don't think someone who wants to not be involved,
- 28:17Speaker 3: who wants to have their own thing going, who wants
- 28:19Speaker 3: to go hermatically or even someone like who wants to
- 28:25Speaker 3: be like in power on their own. I don't think
- 28:28Speaker 3: that they give you advice to go after your son.
- 28:32Speaker 3: I don't think that they kind of lean into the
- 28:35Speaker 3: conviction of like building, like, I think there's something about
- 28:38Speaker 3: the way that Ultron is moving that, and it's not,
- 28:41Speaker 3: it's like, I'm not hopeful for him or anything. It's
- 28:44Speaker 3: just that I don't think that he's moving in a
- 28:46Speaker 3: way that tells me that we're going to see your
- 28:50Speaker 3: regular degular villain storyline of like, I just want control
- 28:56Speaker 3: and power. I think we're going to get something complete.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Like it's going to be different. It's not going to be,
- 29:02Speaker 3: great for everyone but it's not gonna be something that
- 29:05Speaker 3: is the same he's he says it he's he says
- 29:08Speaker 3: he was bested and you learn about who bested you
- 29:14Speaker 3: once you've been bested yeah and i don't think that
- 29:18Speaker 3: what he you get from that lesson is to try
- 29:21Speaker 3: the same thing again i don't think that you have
- 29:23Speaker 3: the same kind of goal once you learn from the
- 29:25Speaker 3: kind of person who best you i think it has
- 29:28Speaker 3: to shift And so I just, I, without what that
- 29:31Speaker 3: renewed vision is, I don't know. But I doesn't feel
- 29:35Speaker 3: like it would be that same thing again. And he's,
- 29:38Speaker 3: you know, he's employing the help of this person. paladin
- 29:40Speaker 3: character now. And I know we'll learn a lot more
- 29:43Speaker 3: about that.
- 29:44Speaker 2: And the fact that they, they took time to go
- 29:46Speaker 2: through the history of the paladin and, and mentioned that
- 29:48Speaker 2: he's not quote the paladin.
- 29:50Speaker 1: He's a paladin is the line of them.
- 29:52Speaker 3: You think that's Ultron behind the paladin? No.
- 29:56Speaker 2: I think there's somebody else that we now the, the, the,
- 30:01Speaker 2: the rules of storytelling and this, at least on a
- 30:04Speaker 2: screenplay is like, you can't just pop out with some
- 30:06Speaker 2: random character down. Like it has to be someone you
- 30:08Speaker 2: already were introduced to or has been in the picture somehow. So,
- 30:12Speaker 2: you know, at first I was like, Oh yeah, that's Ultron.
- 30:14Speaker 2: And I was like, well, no, that would be too easy.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Like that doesn't, it has to be something else going on.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Do you think, who do you think it is? Or
- 30:20Speaker 2: do you not even who you think it is? Do
- 30:21Speaker 2: you think it's Ultron?
- 30:22Speaker 3: I don't think it's Ultron necessarily. I think Ultron is...
- 30:25Speaker 3: I think Ultron has... The things we see him doing
- 30:29Speaker 3: in these episodes show that he is allowing for that
- 30:33Speaker 3: gateway to be open for all the things.
- 30:35Speaker 1: He's facilitating.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Yeah. He's facilitating all the things that Paladin is putting forward.
- 30:40Speaker 3: He's putting Vision right in the pathway to have him
- 30:44Speaker 3: take that stuff up.
- 30:45Speaker 2: But.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I think it's more of him trying to take advantage
- 30:48Speaker 3: of the situation because he knew... Everyone knew it was
- 30:51Speaker 3: only a matter of time. Vision knew it was only
- 30:52Speaker 3: a matter of time. He says... He talks like a
- 30:54Speaker 3: talk of like, well, no one's looking for me. And
- 30:56Speaker 3: he pauses.
- 30:57Speaker 1: He's being naive.
- 30:58Speaker 3: I don't think he was actually... I think he knows.
- 31:00Speaker 1: You think he knew he was just talking at the talk.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Everyone wears a mask. He's been one of the big
- 31:05Speaker 3: mask wearers. And sometimes we wear masks for ourselves too because...
- 31:09Speaker 3: That significant pause when he said, no, not even the
- 31:12Speaker 3: Avengers are looking for me. Like, that tells me that
- 31:15Speaker 3: he wants to be looked for.
- 31:17Speaker 1: He kind of hopes that they're looking for him.
- 31:19Speaker 3: He's wishful that someone needs him to step up to
- 31:22Speaker 3: be a hero again. Because White Vision was not a hero.
- 31:26Speaker 3: He was a puppet for a sword. And sword will
- 31:30Speaker 3: have you doing all kinds of things. That's not hero life.
- 31:33Speaker 3: So of course he's probably like, he's so again, he's
- 31:36Speaker 3: white vision. So he's never been able to be a hero.
- 31:38Speaker 3: He's been, he's just been a tool. He's been Wanda's tool.
- 31:42Speaker 3: And then he's been swords tool. So I think him
- 31:48Speaker 3: like having that wistful line, I don't think he actually
- 31:52Speaker 3: believes what he said. I think he really does want that.
- 31:54Speaker 3: And I think that, like everyone in that room, whether
- 31:58Speaker 3: it's Jarvis, who's like, I got to get these firewalls
- 32:00Speaker 3: up because I don't want those. Cause like he knows
- 32:03Speaker 3: at some point the breach is going to happen and
- 32:06Speaker 3: someone's going to come for us and we're not going
- 32:08Speaker 3: to be safe in vision's mind. And, I think it's
- 32:12Speaker 3: also interesting, like, the idea from the front is, how
- 32:16Speaker 3: did they all get there? Like, when did we see
- 32:19Speaker 3: Edith get to, like, when did, where were they?
- 32:21Speaker 2: When did he download, I mean, they said he downloaded them.
- 32:24Speaker 2: And also, I was trying to understand where in the
- 32:27Speaker 2: timeline this story sits. Because, and I guess they're trying
- 32:30Speaker 2: to tell you, too, when he's reading through, in the beginning, he's,
- 32:33Speaker 2: Vision is reading through the newspaper.
- 32:34Speaker 1: And there's one article that says, vibranium stolen.
- 32:39Speaker 2: And I'm just like, is that the time of the
- 32:41Speaker 2: first Black Panther when Klaus stole the vibranium that, you know,
- 32:47Speaker 2: that set off that story? Or is this somewhere else?
- 32:49Speaker 2: Or is there no time period? Like, I'm trying to
- 32:51Speaker 2: figure out when in the... I mean, it's clearly right.
- 32:54Speaker 2: It has to be after WandaVision, right?
- 32:57Speaker 3: Right. It has to be after Agatha Long as well,
- 32:59Speaker 3: because we know that Billy's the one who had the
- 33:01Speaker 3: whole situation with Tommy. Right, right. I also think it's
- 33:04Speaker 3: like we also know that it's kind of probably our
- 33:08Speaker 3: most recent thing that we've seen from Marvel timeline-wise. Like,
- 33:11Speaker 3: it's probably the most present day of all the Marvel
- 33:15Speaker 3: things happening.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Okay. So he said he downloaded them. Downloaded them from where? When?
- 33:21Speaker 3: Like, how?
- 33:21Speaker 2: From when?
- 33:22Speaker 3: And.
- 33:23Speaker 2: And you asked it earlier, again, like some of these
- 33:27Speaker 2: make sense. Like, yes, I understand why he downloaded Jarvis, Friday, Edith.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I mean, these are all just components of his own protocols, right?
- 33:36Speaker 2: Like the fight protocols, the socialization protocols, security protocols, that's
- 33:40Speaker 2: what they are. And of course, like dummy and the
- 33:43Speaker 2: U AIs, those are just maintenance protocols, if you will.
- 33:47Speaker 2: But then the Ultron question, it's just like, Why would
- 33:52Speaker 2: you house that inside of you? Knowing what Ultron is,
- 33:56Speaker 2: knowing what Ultron is capable of, what would drive you
- 33:58Speaker 2: to house that specific AI? And it just reminds me
- 34:03Speaker 2: of what we were just talking about, just about like
- 34:05Speaker 2: when he paused, when he said, oh, nobody's looking for me,
- 34:07Speaker 2: not even the bench.
- 34:08Speaker 1: It's like, you kind of want that chaos a little bit.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Like you're asking for that piece of of chaotic energy
- 34:17Speaker 2: because you don't want your life to be quote boring
- 34:21Speaker 2: or just just easy it's like it's it's it's just
- 34:25Speaker 2: interesting like when they talk about self-sabotage that's a form
- 34:27Speaker 2: of self-sabotage because like is it because you feel like
- 34:30Speaker 2: Ultron should live or is there a different purpose but
- 34:34Speaker 2: also like.
- 34:37Speaker 3: As you say that, it's like, is this him missing Wanda? Like,
- 34:40Speaker 3: because Wanda's chaotic.
- 34:42Speaker 2: I mean, oh, you remind me of my girl. Let's,
- 34:45Speaker 2: you know, like, I... It's just, again, and it also
- 34:50Speaker 2: leads to there's more humanity in him than he thinks
- 34:53Speaker 2: because he's doing stupid shit like human people do, right? Like,
- 34:58Speaker 2: just things like, well, why would you set yourself up
- 35:00Speaker 2: for failure like that? Like, why would you have the
- 35:02Speaker 2: hubris to think that you can contain someone like that
- 35:06Speaker 2: who has... Even though he's been bested at the end,
- 35:08Speaker 2: he has bested him.
- 35:10Speaker 1: So I just... He bested him before several times. So I...
- 35:15Speaker 1: It's just.
- 35:17Speaker 2: It doesn't make logic sense, but, like, does it have to, right? Because, again,
- 35:21Speaker 2: this is him trying to find a piece of humanity
- 35:24Speaker 2: and trying to really almost reach that level again where
- 35:27Speaker 2: he was before.
- 35:27Speaker 3: I feel like it's also interesting, as you say it, like,
- 35:30Speaker 3: how he is kind of... Wizard of Oz, right? Where
- 35:37Speaker 3: he's searching for the humanity, but it's right there in
- 35:39Speaker 3: his face the whole time and how he's behaving. And
- 35:42Speaker 3: I think that stood out to me the most. And, like,
- 35:45Speaker 3: even how he... animates this world within his mind because
- 35:51Speaker 3: what do you mean he's taking the elevator like that's
- 35:53Speaker 3: so pedestrian and human like a thing what do you
- 35:56Speaker 3: mean like just teleport yourself.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Like even ultron said that ultron was like why would
- 36:01Speaker 2: you program a bad delivery service right like why would
- 36:04Speaker 2: you program that my food comes 60 or 40 minutes
- 36:07Speaker 2: late and cold like why would you do that.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Why would you have these maintenance bots run the movie
- 36:14Speaker 3: for you? Like you could just do it. You know
- 36:15Speaker 3: what I mean? Like it's all for the, it's all
- 36:17Speaker 3: the mask. It's all the story around him. It's all
- 36:20Speaker 3: like what he's building around him. And it's for human behaviors,
- 36:23Speaker 3: for someone else to interact with at the movie theater,
- 36:26Speaker 3: for some place to be with, with his body while
- 36:30Speaker 3: he's disembodied for the feeling of like maintaining, um, an
- 36:36Speaker 3: idea of what human life is like, even the inconveniences
- 36:39Speaker 3: of it. He's doing it to be human and then
- 36:42Speaker 3: also saying he doesn't know that he's human enough. And
- 36:47Speaker 3: I'm sorry, but it kind of sounds like the classic
- 36:52Speaker 3: struggle of like, biracial like i don't know my racial
- 36:56Speaker 3: struggle you think yeah like i'm like am i human
- 36:59Speaker 3: enough am i human enough am i too much droid
- 37:02Speaker 3: i don't know like and you know i say that
- 37:05Speaker 3: from like a have a kid who was told oh
- 37:08Speaker 3: you don't you don't talk black like you know that
- 37:10Speaker 3: like the shit people like to do or whatever to
- 37:12Speaker 3: question your identity and so it makes sense that as
- 37:17Speaker 3: you're questioning your identity. You're hearing out other people's critiques
- 37:21Speaker 3: of you and trying those on and seeing what fits
- 37:24Speaker 3: and what doesn't fit. And then also rejecting things and
- 37:27Speaker 3: saying like, no, that has nothing to do with me.
- 37:29Speaker 3: So I think it's interesting. Like we see his like, heartwarming,
- 37:35Speaker 3: kind of like sitcom-y. Oh, these are my friends and
- 37:38Speaker 3: they're all in my mind and we all kind of
- 37:40Speaker 3: take care of each other. We're a family kind of vibe,
- 37:42Speaker 3: but also I need a family. I think that was
- 37:45Speaker 3: a note of mine too. Whenever he was talking to
- 37:48Speaker 3: the pub owner, And she said to him, like, oh,
- 37:51Speaker 3: who are you going home to? Because she mentioned that
- 37:55Speaker 3: he said that she had seen him with Wanda before.
- 37:58Speaker 3: He says nobody. And I'm like, is that him being hateful?
- 38:01Speaker 3: Is that self-hate that he's saying he's going home to
- 38:05Speaker 3: other bots, but it's nobody somehow?
- 38:08Speaker 2: Which also leads me to another point to that that
- 38:11Speaker 2: I wanted to mention. The fact that he said in
- 38:12Speaker 2: their face when he was just like, I don't have family.
- 38:15Speaker 1: And, like, they kind of looked at him like, well,
- 38:17Speaker 1: what about us, nigga? Like, that is your chosen family.
- 38:21Speaker 3: And Jarvis, he told Jarvis, like, that's your, like, 1,036th
- 38:24Speaker 3: second oldest brother thing that you said. Like, that's a...
- 38:28Speaker 3: And it's like, so you call him your brother... But
- 38:31Speaker 3: he's not your brother.
- 38:33Speaker 1: See, Vision is lying to himself. Like, he recognizes these.
- 38:38Speaker 2: It's so interesting because it's parallel of them being his
- 38:43Speaker 2: family while at the same time being pieces of him.
- 38:46Speaker 2: And you can argue that your family are, especially when
- 38:49Speaker 2: you grow up with siblings, they are pieces of you, right?
- 38:53Speaker 2: Especially if you're an older sibling, they're younger and they're
- 38:55Speaker 2: learning from you or you're middle, whatever.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Right.
- 38:57Speaker 1: There's always an influence there.
- 38:59Speaker 2: And as mentioned, pieces of them and their soul and
- 39:03Speaker 2: their psyche and their personalities that end up in you.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Same thing with your parents. There's pieces of them that
- 39:07Speaker 2: are within you. And it's quite like, bro, you are
- 39:11Speaker 2: lying to yourself. And the answer, as usual, is right
- 39:13Speaker 2: in front of you. But you're making it this more
- 39:16Speaker 2: existential thing where you have to go search outward versus inward.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Interestingly enough... when it comes to like the set design
- 39:26Speaker 2: and what they're doing and what they're saying just outright.
- 39:29Speaker 2: when he speaks with Friday particularly she's a socialization pieces
- 39:34Speaker 2: of him and you see there's one scene where she
- 39:36Speaker 2: has this big ass book it says.
- 39:38Speaker 1: It on one side and eagle on the other and.
- 39:42Speaker 2: If anybody who studies any type of philosophy, any type
- 39:44Speaker 2: of Greek mythology or anything.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Like that, they talk about this a lot.
- 39:48Speaker 2: The id is your primitive, instinctual, unconscious mind, your reptilian mind,
- 39:53Speaker 2: if you will, right? The one you just have at
- 39:55Speaker 2: birth before you are taught the social constructs of life
- 39:59Speaker 2: and all this other stuff. And then the ego, that's
- 40:01Speaker 2: the rational and decision-making part of your personality and how
- 40:05Speaker 2: it operates across, you know, your conscious, your subconscious, all
- 40:09Speaker 2: the levels. And it is those two, it's many forces,
- 40:13Speaker 2: but a lot of these conversations are those two opposing
- 40:16Speaker 2: forces that you're constantly battling against, right? Do you go
- 40:20Speaker 2: with the it and just go with what you, what
- 40:23Speaker 2: feels good, right? Versus what you know to be good.
- 40:26Speaker 2: And you see this happening all the time with this
- 40:28Speaker 2: version of vision, right? And as I mentioned, this is
- 40:32Speaker 2: a very different version of vision. This is a very
- 40:36Speaker 2: more ruthless, more, quick decision making. You saw how, when
- 40:42Speaker 2: his home girl, Fiona, um, unfortunately got unalived in the
- 40:46Speaker 2: episode where like he, it wasn't even a second thought.
- 40:50Speaker 2: As soon as the, the folks came in, the, the
- 40:52Speaker 2: mercenaries came in, he popped each and every last one
- 40:54Speaker 2: of them just without the hesitation. He did it again.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Episode two, when he went to go get his son
- 40:58Speaker 2: out the sanitarium out of St. Mabel's or whatever he was.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I mean, just, and, and, That's what they were there for.
- 41:05Speaker 1: That's what they were there for.
- 41:06Speaker 2: And Marvel's particularly good at, they always like to hide
- 41:09Speaker 2: blood and hide violence and drama. But this was a
- 41:12Speaker 2: little higher level, like, blood and drama than they normally
- 41:15Speaker 2: show on Disney Plus anyway. I was like, oh, okay.
- 41:17Speaker 2: You know, besides, like, the Frank Castles and everything on Netflix. Like,
- 41:21Speaker 2: I thought I hadn't seen them go that ruthless with
- 41:25Speaker 2: a character, like, on this scale, on Avengers level recently. Like,
- 41:29Speaker 2: to really be like, no, he don't give a fuck.
- 41:32Speaker 2: He's not going to think about the humanity of a person.
- 41:34Speaker 2: He's just like, you are a threat.
- 41:35Speaker 3: You got to go. I think it's interesting because also
- 41:38Speaker 3: super interesting as you're talking about the ego and it,
- 41:40Speaker 3: because literally where do we see Ultron reside? where the
- 41:45Speaker 3: Mind Stone symbol is within the house. Rit Free and
- 41:49Speaker 3: Vision's head, right?
- 41:50Speaker 1: Rit Free!
- 41:51Speaker 3: Right there.
- 41:52Speaker 2: An apartment!
- 41:54Speaker 3: A penthouse apartment in a sky high. Right? Ultramutu on
- 41:59Speaker 3: a piece of Jefferson, right? And I think it's, like...
- 42:04Speaker 3: It's just very telling that, like, we are... we're kind
- 42:11Speaker 3: of given this glimpse into Vision where we're seeing him
- 42:16Speaker 3: have a council with these people he invited inside of
- 42:19Speaker 3: his head, right? Correct. Like, he's asking them for their advice,
- 42:21Speaker 3: even if he doesn't even take it. He's asking for them, like,
- 42:24Speaker 3: when it comes to where the firewall breach, he's asking for, like,
- 42:28Speaker 3: when it comes to this, like, new notification about a
- 42:30Speaker 3: possible son, like, his Billie Jean moment, like, he is
- 42:34Speaker 3: not my son. Like, he has so many... The kid
- 42:39Speaker 3: is not my son. But that is, like, he has
- 42:43Speaker 3: them there to be his supports in those small theater,
- 42:49Speaker 3: watching a movie kind of way. And he has them
- 42:52Speaker 3: there for these, like, okay, the thing has happened. Fireball breach.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Now I need to have a discussion with y'all. And
- 43:00Speaker 3: who does he run to? It's Ultron. And so why...
- 43:07Speaker 3: Is Ultron his morality?
- 43:07Speaker 2: Why are you talking to your dick right now, dude?
- 43:10Speaker 3: Like, it's the permission that he needs to be, like,
- 43:13Speaker 3: to go create, like, haywire on these, like, mercenaries and
- 43:17Speaker 3: not have a second thought about it. Like, if anyone's
- 43:18Speaker 3: going to give him permission to just, like, take life
- 43:21Speaker 3: without any question, it's going to be Ultron. And, like,
- 43:24Speaker 3: I think Ultron recognizes that. I think the way that
- 43:26Speaker 3: Ultron speaks to him, he's like, Well, you know, on
- 43:29Speaker 3: one hand, if I were free, I would go look
- 43:32Speaker 3: at my art. But on the other hand, I would
- 43:33Speaker 3: also just go to where the nuclear codes are and
- 43:35Speaker 3: take everybody out. Of course. And it is what it is.
- 43:38Speaker 3: And so it's like, Vision knows exactly who he's talking to.
- 43:41Speaker 3: He knows exactly why he's talking to him. He knows...
- 43:45Speaker 3: Why didn't he put a protest up whenever Jarvis decided
- 43:47Speaker 3: he was going to take himself out? Why did he say, like, nah, actually,
- 43:50Speaker 3: I'm going to override you, and I'm going to take
- 43:52Speaker 3: someone else out instead?
- 43:53Speaker 1: Do you think he could, though? He could have?
- 43:56Speaker 3: I think he could. If you can download them into
- 43:58Speaker 3: your head, why can't you override?
- 44:00Speaker 2: He was badly damaged by adamantium rounds, I would like
- 44:03Speaker 2: to say, because as soon as.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Isn't.
- 44:05Speaker 3: That counter what is actually in the comics?
- 44:09Speaker 1: I don't think so. I think that's right aligned, because.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Which was fitting because in every story, the character always
- 44:17Speaker 2: says their downfall. They says, he said it a little
- 44:20Speaker 2: bit early. He was like, I made a vibranium. Nothing
- 44:22Speaker 2: could stop me. Here come the adamantium. I was like, actually,
- 44:26Speaker 2: there might be something that could take you out, dude.
- 44:28Speaker 2: And I don't know if he was too weak to
- 44:31Speaker 2: really do it. I thought he was too weak to
- 44:33Speaker 2: really do anything about anything.
- 44:35Speaker 3: If the code can be deleted, he can do the
- 44:40Speaker 3: code to delete it. He uploaded them. He has the ability.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Maybe, maybe.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Would you agree, like if we're using the id and
- 44:48Speaker 2: the ego, that Ultron is the id and the ego
- 44:52Speaker 2: was Jarvis?
- 44:54Speaker 1: And now with Jarvis gone, how does Vision act?
- 44:58Speaker 3: Honestly, in Vision's consideration of things, He probably thought there's
- 45:03Speaker 3: not enough room for the both of us at some
- 45:05Speaker 3: point anyway. Like Jarvis is going to continue to be like,
- 45:09Speaker 3: he feels like he's enough of a principled being that
- 45:12Speaker 3: he doesn't need another principled being. Why else was he
- 45:17Speaker 3: counting how many times he heard the elder brother speech
- 45:20Speaker 3: from this, you know, from him, right?
- 45:22Speaker 2: He wanted him out his fucking head. He was like,
- 45:24Speaker 2: I want you to delete yourself. Of course, Portia, coming
- 45:28Speaker 2: with the conspiracy theories, C-O-N-spiracies.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Conspiracy against yourself?
- 45:35Speaker 3: Against the person that would have you put on extra
- 45:40Speaker 3: layers of boundaries and cushion when you're ready for chaos.
- 45:48Speaker 1: I can see that. That makes a lot of sense.
- 45:52Speaker 2: And I do want to make sure we, before we be,
- 45:55Speaker 2: you know, finished up that we get to also his son,
- 45:58Speaker 2: because his son is a huge component. We already said
- 46:01Speaker 2: the fact that his, his sons, both of them have
- 46:04Speaker 2: gone through similar and are going through similar. And this show,
- 46:07Speaker 2: we're actually seeing both vision and Tommy going through the
- 46:10Speaker 2: identity search and crisis and everything together. Um, And you
- 46:14Speaker 2: were learning about Tommy's background and the fact that he
- 46:17Speaker 2: thinks he's crazy, but... Or not thinks he's crazy. Everybody
- 46:19Speaker 2: else thinks he's crazy. He knows he's not crazy, but
- 46:21Speaker 2: he doesn't know who he is and what's going on.
- 46:23Speaker 1: And it's kind of... Really, not kind of. It is
- 46:25Speaker 1: fucked up how they even came to be. Like, I understand...
- 46:28Speaker 1: They use that.
- 46:30Speaker 2: When they say when you're dying and you're on death's bed, you're, like,
- 46:33Speaker 2: on this.
- 46:34Speaker 1: You're on, like, you're towing between these two.
- 46:37Speaker 2: A portal, if you will. You're towing the two worlds,
- 46:38Speaker 2: so that's how things can cross over.
- 46:40Speaker 1: In Limbaugh.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Right. But that's fucked up!
- 46:42Speaker 1: Because you.
- 46:43Speaker 2: It's not like one life completely took over the other.
- 46:47Speaker 2: You still remember remnants of the old life, and then
- 46:50Speaker 2: now you're struggling. And there's nobody or nothing, at least until.
- 46:54Speaker 3: To counsel you.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:56Speaker 3: So.
- 46:57Speaker 1: how do you just, just dealing with that?
- 46:58Speaker 2: Like the, a lesser mind will crumble immediately. And, and,
- 47:01Speaker 2: and Tommy is, you know, he's not far from crumbling.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 47:04Speaker 3: So, yeah, I think it's, it's, it's even made worse.
- 47:08Speaker 3: I don't know. So like, I think going back to
- 47:11Speaker 3: the father, son ship of theseus thing, um, and the
- 47:15Speaker 3: masking and wearing layers. Like, he even admits in the
- 47:18Speaker 3: episode that he's good at... He enjoys doing cons because
- 47:22Speaker 3: he gets to try on being different people all the time.
- 47:25Speaker 3: And that has to be a way of him alleviating
- 47:29Speaker 3: this feeling from that trauma of having... then one soul
- 47:33Speaker 3: and then jumping into the body and life of some
- 47:36Speaker 3: other soul and being able to put on those other
- 47:38Speaker 3: faces for a minute, however long those cons are, gives
- 47:42Speaker 3: him a little bit more time to do those. So
- 47:45Speaker 3: some people might become a con artist, other people might
- 47:47Speaker 3: become an actor, right? Like that's what actors do. They
- 47:49Speaker 3: try on different people and all those kinds of things.
- 47:52Speaker 3: So I think it's interesting that it all comes back
- 47:55Speaker 3: to that. And then the fact that he's, not only
- 47:58Speaker 3: is he dealing with this trauma in the first hand,
- 48:02Speaker 3: he is like put into the brutal parts of it
- 48:07Speaker 3: within England's, you know, system. And apparently, you know, he's
- 48:12Speaker 3: an orphan at this age. So they just are like,
- 48:16Speaker 3: throw the book at him and send him off to
- 48:17Speaker 3: a sanitarium. Which is insane. Yeah. And the first, like,
- 48:22Speaker 3: of course the black man on the bus is the
- 48:24Speaker 3: first one who gets brutalized by someone. Of course. And
- 48:28Speaker 3: of course the guy who's the brutalizer is, I was like,
- 48:31Speaker 3: that's a familiar face. He is from Game of Thrones.
- 48:33Speaker 3: He was what, Castle, like in a Castle Black, he
- 48:35Speaker 3: was one of the guys who took the black. of
- 48:38Speaker 3: the night watch. Ed, the one that always was like, oh,
- 48:41Speaker 3: this is going to go badly or whatever. Like he's always,
- 48:44Speaker 3: he always had like, oh man, like he was like
- 48:47Speaker 3: talking to John about like, oh man. And so like,
- 48:50Speaker 3: it's interesting. It was just fun to see that face.
- 48:54Speaker 3: Did not love that he was utilizing a black man.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Of course. Yeah. And I just think that like, it's,
- 49:02Speaker 3: It is very trauma. I can only imagine someone who
- 49:05Speaker 3: has gone through something similar and like they're watching this
- 49:08Speaker 3: on TV and it's like, oh shit. Like this is,
- 49:11Speaker 3: this is not for the lighthearted. This is not just
- 49:15Speaker 3: like a lighthearted romp, but neither has anything in this trilogy. No. And.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Want to enslave the town. I want everyone to remember that.
- 49:24Speaker 2: It was enslavement. There's no mincing words here. Like, it
- 49:29Speaker 2: wasn't a nice jaunt through a Chuck E.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Cheese, if you will, right?
- 49:34Speaker 2: Like, this was literally people... And you remember how.
- 49:37Speaker 3: Against their will.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Against their will. Remember how when they were... Screaming, crying.
- 49:39Speaker 2: The people would break out momentarily and they would they
- 49:43Speaker 2: would be like you said crying in tears like please
- 49:47Speaker 2: somebody once said kill me right wasn't it one of
- 49:49Speaker 2: the mothers up there she was like please kill me
- 49:51Speaker 2: like i just i can't be here what.
- 49:52Speaker 3: Is her name we see her um as the gag
- 49:55Speaker 3: and um agatha all along her husband had a heart
- 50:00Speaker 3: attack once they actually got back into their real lives
- 50:03Speaker 3: he couldn't take it Mm-hmm.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Like, it's... That's what I want people to understand. Like,
- 50:09Speaker 2: I'm glad you mentioned it. Like, it's more serious than
- 50:11Speaker 2: you think, right? Like, it's all shits and giggles you think,
- 50:14Speaker 2: but no, it's a lot more than that.
- 50:15Speaker 3: It's all a fantastic world. It's just a little bit of, like, okay,
- 50:18Speaker 3: we get a little I love Lucy nod, and then
- 50:20Speaker 3: we're gonna get, like, but okay. But.
- 50:23Speaker 2: And I kind of like that they only dipped you
- 50:26Speaker 2: in it briefly. And you do go back and forth
- 50:29Speaker 2: when he goes back and forth into his head, but
- 50:31Speaker 2: I wonder how often they're going to do that as
- 50:34Speaker 2: the series goes on. And he already almost got destroyed
- 50:39Speaker 2: a minute ago. And yes, I double-checked this to be sure. Yes,
- 50:42Speaker 2: adamantium is a stronger metal. And Wolverine has clawed into
- 50:47Speaker 2: Black Panther before, who was wearing his Vibranium suit. So yeah,
- 50:50Speaker 2: that's a problem. So, not only, like, do you have
- 50:55Speaker 2: this being that's going through these psychotic episodes, really, technically,
- 50:58Speaker 2: you also, he's not fallible. Like, well, he is fallible, right? Like,
- 51:03Speaker 2: he's not completely, like, impervious. Like, he can be killed.
- 51:07Speaker 2: He can be destroyed in some way. And it's just,
- 51:11Speaker 2: and honestly, just again, Bakhti, these AI, I was like,
- 51:14Speaker 2: why y'all not killing Dummy and you, right? Like, why
- 51:17Speaker 2: they ain't, I mean, they choose not to offer themselves up,
- 51:20Speaker 2: but I guess, their processing power was not as much
- 51:23Speaker 2: as Jarvis, right? Jarvis could literally power everybody else.
- 51:26Speaker 3: So whatever. I thought it was... I honestly thought Friday
- 51:30Speaker 3: could have gone to.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Oh, you'd rather Friday go.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Not us picking other people. Like, you could have go, bitch.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Because, like, she wasn't doing anything. Like, you know what
- 51:38Speaker 3: I mean? Like, Jarvis, it was, like, upholding the firewall. Edith,
- 51:41Speaker 3: it's over here.
- 51:41Speaker 2: He was doing the main thing. But that's kind of
- 51:43Speaker 2: the point, right? They want to get rid of the
- 51:45Speaker 2: one that you are probably most familiar with.
- 51:47Speaker 3: Aligned to as well.
- 51:49Speaker 1: And most aligned to.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:50Speaker 1: And the one that... You know, the one that.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Tugs on the heartstrings the most. Because you only have
- 51:55Speaker 2: two episodes to establish these... characters and at least these
- 52:00Speaker 2: versions of the characters and their connection. And if you
- 52:04Speaker 2: started watching Marvel from the beginning, the MCU from the beginning,
- 52:06Speaker 2: you know who Jarvis.
- 52:07Speaker 3: Is, right? I also want to say that it's funny
- 52:10Speaker 3: because we were talking about how the different kids have
- 52:13Speaker 3: inherited different things from their parents. And I think it's
- 52:15Speaker 3: very fun that tommy is british and that billy is
- 52:20Speaker 3: american but also isn't the actor i think that is
- 52:22Speaker 3: the actor also i can't remember right now joe lock
- 52:25Speaker 3: is he really billy billy yeah yeah yeah Speaking English
- 52:30Speaker 3: or something.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Half the people ain't American.
- 52:32Speaker 3: They're not. But it's funny because he's the one... But
- 52:35Speaker 3: he is American. I guess Wanda's not American. Wanda's actually Sokovian.
- 52:40Speaker 1: She's from Sokovia, yeah.
- 52:41Speaker 3: And we have Jarvis, British accent. We have... Yeah, a
- 52:47Speaker 3: lot of the people in this show.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Friday.
- 52:49Speaker 2: All of them.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Very, very British.
- 52:51Speaker 3: And I will just... I'm bringing that up as well because...
- 52:54Speaker 3: I think second episode gave me, even though I don't
- 52:57Speaker 3: watch Doctor Who, I have dibbled in it because friends
- 52:59Speaker 3: who have been trying to get me into it. I'm like, girl,
- 53:02Speaker 3: I mean, I try. And it did give me Doctor Who. Like,
- 53:07Speaker 3: there were moments of that episode where I was like,
- 53:09Speaker 3: this feels very Whovian. And the Brits are Britting right
- 53:13Speaker 3: now in this show. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 53:16Speaker 2: And that is what's enjoyable about, like, you do get
- 53:19Speaker 2: bits and pieces of other fandoms and other things that
- 53:23Speaker 2: help with the fun factor of the series. I'm actually
- 53:27Speaker 2: really pleasantly surprised at what we ended up with, because, again,
- 53:30Speaker 2: I didn't... Besides seeing the one trailer, I didn't look
- 53:33Speaker 2: into it. As mentioned, I didn't prep for this. I
- 53:36Speaker 2: was just like, where are they going to go with this?
- 53:38Speaker 2: And do I even care about this story anymore? As mentioned,
- 53:40Speaker 2: it's been several years, several since WandaVision, and a handful
- 53:45Speaker 2: of years since Agatha O'Long. So to revisit this, we're
- 53:48Speaker 2: always yelling about, oh, Marvel going to the old thing again.
- 53:52Speaker 2: They want that old thing back.
- 53:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 53:54Speaker 2: But this is actually, right now, it's well written and
- 53:59Speaker 2: well acted. I'm enjoying it a lot. Now, at this point,
- 54:04Speaker 2: I'm just like, where are they going with this? And
- 54:07Speaker 2: what does this lead to? Is this going to lead
- 54:09Speaker 2: to anything Doomsday related? I don't know the background about
- 54:12Speaker 2: where this is supposed to go. Or is this truly
- 54:15Speaker 2: just a closed loop where they're just trying to close
- 54:17Speaker 2: up the trilogy?
- 54:18Speaker 3: I have my personal reasons why I want... marvel to
- 54:24Speaker 3: linger on the witchcraft of things and therefore for agatha
- 54:27Speaker 3: all along at least to get if it doesn't get
- 54:30Speaker 3: another season for the character spinoffs or something to happen
- 54:33Speaker 3: in the world that keeps us within like hex magic
- 54:37Speaker 3: witches spellcraft um i don't want that to just be
- 54:42Speaker 3: us getting wicked in the young avengers like i don't
- 54:44Speaker 3: i do look forward to seeing the young avengers that's
- 54:46Speaker 3: fine but i want witchcraft with like I'm highly interested
- 54:51Speaker 3: in Marvel magic. I think there's too many magic users
- 54:54Speaker 3: in the world of Marvel to not explore that on
- 54:56Speaker 3: a regular basis. And I've, even if it, I feel
- 55:00Speaker 3: like there's so many avenues they haven't explored with it
- 55:04Speaker 3: that I'd be so open to. Like, why don't we
- 55:07Speaker 3: get to see America Chavez and her learning magic through
- 55:10Speaker 3: a commortage? Why can't we get a magic school kind
- 55:13Speaker 3: of thing setting there? It'd be fun. Yeah. I would
- 55:16Speaker 3: be so sad for that.
- 55:18Speaker 2: You reminded me of the fact that even though it
- 55:22Speaker 2: unfortunately suffered from the fanboyism's Ironheart the fact that they.
- 55:28Speaker 3: Yes Mephisto's laughing.
- 55:30Speaker 2: Ironheart was has such heavy heavy implications to the rest
- 55:34Speaker 2: of the MCU if they continue the threading line and
- 55:39Speaker 2: just to your point I would love to see them
- 55:41Speaker 2: continue down the magic path especially because you're reintegrating it
- 55:45Speaker 2: again with Vision and the stories of the witches and
- 55:48Speaker 2: all this other stuff there is a witch Zelma within
- 55:51Speaker 2: the story of of Ironheart and how they ended off
- 55:55Speaker 2: there like She's going to get training.
- 55:58Speaker 1: Red Hood, like all of that is there. Like, and
- 56:01Speaker 1: that's the only thing I do. Like it's there.
- 56:03Speaker 3: It's so much potential. It's right there.
- 56:05Speaker 1: It's right there.
- 56:06Speaker 3: So, so was blade. And we got what we got.
- 56:08Speaker 1: So I'm not going to talk about that.
- 56:12Speaker 2: I'm trying to talk about the things that I see
- 56:13Speaker 2: that are look, Vision Quest is already happening.
- 56:16Speaker 1: It's already here. So it's just like the guiding lines
- 56:20Speaker 1: are there and.
- 56:21Speaker 2: You can easily, just easily connect them and make more
- 56:25Speaker 2: art out of it.
- 56:26Speaker 1: And the fact that it's magic and it's magic within Marvel.
- 56:29Speaker 2: And I think to be honest with you, me personally,
- 56:32Speaker 2: that's more intriguing than a million giant atom bombs that
- 56:36Speaker 2: they could show you on screen and big bad fights.
- 56:40Speaker 1: Like this is way more intriguing.
- 56:42Speaker 3: I would like to pledge an oath. That I solemnly
- 56:45Speaker 3: would love to never see another touting of the military
- 56:50Speaker 3: industrial complex as superheroes on my screen ever again.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Never will happen. Will never happen. Multinational corporations will never
- 56:59Speaker 2: let you not see that.
- 57:00Speaker 3: I sincerely... Disney! Do you know how much it hurt
- 57:06Speaker 3: my heart to see how deeply... it was invested in
- 57:11Speaker 3: the latest Spider-Man movie. I was just... So, like, if
- 57:16Speaker 3: I catch a whiff, I'm out. I can't do it anymore.
- 57:20Speaker 3: I can't. I cannot. Please give me Magic and Whimsy.
- 57:24Speaker 3: Please keep... I can't. Please, Vision Quest, don't go down
- 57:28Speaker 3: that road.
- 57:30Speaker 2: We might get something cool. Let me shout out a
- 57:33Speaker 2: couple of the cast. You already know Paul Bettany as Vision.
- 57:36Speaker 2: James Spader returning as Ultron. Riyad Malika, he's Tommy. Todd Stashwick, Paladin.
- 57:44Speaker 2: Emily Hampshire as Edith. Orla Brady as Friday. Rustin Powell, Travis,
- 57:50Speaker 2: James Darcy.
- 57:51Speaker 3: We'd love to see you again. Man! Always love to
- 57:54Speaker 3: see you. Love to see him.
- 57:56Speaker 2: And also kind of interested in this Lisa character. Lauren Marias, sorry,
- 58:03Speaker 2: plays Lisa Molinari, which looks like a love interest for Tommy.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Interested to see how that goes, if she ends up
- 58:09Speaker 2: being a different character. Because that's another thing that these
- 58:12Speaker 2: magic-induced shows like to do. You know, kind of low-level
- 58:17Speaker 2: introduce a character that happens to be someone way higher,
- 58:19Speaker 2: just like the whole thing with Zelma. Zelma has bigger
- 58:23Speaker 2: implications in... Ironheart than just what we saw.
- 58:27Speaker 3: Yeah. So, yeah, I, again, if some of this goes
- 58:33Speaker 3: into Young Avengers, who may just be regular level Avengers,
- 58:37Speaker 3: because Young Avengers is, I mean, Young is relative. 26
- 58:40Speaker 3: is young. That's still young. Still young. I just think
- 58:44Speaker 3: that I, I really high key hope that what we
- 58:50Speaker 3: see next in this series is It plays a lot
- 58:54Speaker 3: more with the magic side of things. I did not
- 58:59Speaker 3: expect for Vision Quest to do it as much as
- 59:02Speaker 3: they did, so I do appreciate that and like laud
- 59:06Speaker 3: that because it is interwoven in a way where um
- 59:11Speaker 3: the ai and the magic don't seem like they're tussling
- 59:14Speaker 3: with each other which is very yeah for a vision
- 59:19Speaker 3: who has been in love with a witch right like
- 59:21Speaker 3: yes it just makes a lot of sense and i
- 59:23Speaker 3: really enjoy it i think that Paladin making that whole
- 59:28Speaker 3: point of where he's in his long life. And I
- 59:31Speaker 3: think there's been some clue drops in that Paladin was saying,
- 59:33Speaker 3: I'm like, wait, what's going on here? Is this a
- 59:35Speaker 3: long established order? What's going on? Because he says, he
- 59:39Speaker 3: starts to say something about since time immemorial and he
- 59:44Speaker 3: doesn't finish off that thought. And I'm like, well, what
- 59:47Speaker 3: would you know about some time immemorial? You are a human, right?
- 59:51Speaker 3: What do you know about what's going on here? And
- 59:55Speaker 3: then He says, in my experience, like in my long experience,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: if there's something about witch spells or hex, things aren't
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: all the way done. Which basically sounds like comics like
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: even if you don't see the death on page or
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: if you don't it's not all the way done right
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: yes yes so it's comic logic but he's applying it
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: to magic and i'm like i mean i guess but
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: i i there's clues here that there's lots of clues
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: to then meets the eye like even though like paladins
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: is basically everything i hate to see when it comes
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: like military industrial conflicts all these personaries wearing all these
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: big guns doing all these like very mech um and
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: like hand of like authority gesture things at the same
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: time he's sharing stuff and he's working in a way
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: that i'm like now who's behind you not who hired
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: you who's behind you and why are you important to
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: vision story in particular yeah.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: And the way that they're running this particular show, they
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: are very deliberate in the clue giving.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: They're deliberate in.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: The turns of phrases that are used by the people,
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: you know, the things that are very precise or very
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: specific or literal versus what's meant to be figurative. And
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: even within the conversations, when Vision was speaking with his
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: homegirl Fiona before she passed, and she was like, well,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: what happened, Juana?
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: What happened to your redhead girl?
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: And she was like, well, she was crushed under the
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: weight of a mountain. And he meant that very literal, right? Like,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: my wonder girl. And she was just like, oh, you know,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: that's a, you know, that's a hard thing to talk about.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: She was, you know, she was crushing on the weight
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: of emotions and all this stuff. And both technically are true, right? Like, technically,
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: both approaches are true. And like you said, the fact
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: that they're talking about it in the first place leads
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: more to the clues that are, you know, about what
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: is being said. People are not exactly dead. There are
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: other things happening. If magic is involved, it's not what
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: you think it is. Everything isn't, doesn't, everything, isn't what
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: it appears to be. And I think we're going to
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: be in for... If this continues in this trajectory, I
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: think we're going to be in for a really good
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: ride with this series. I do know that they're dropping
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: two episodes... for the next two weeks. And then they're
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: going to split. So it's only eight episodes, number one,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: as far as I know.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: It's only episodes.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Two episodes came out this week. Next two come out
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: on the 20th of October. Next two, 27th of October.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: And then episode seven is November 3rd. And episode eight
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: is November 10th. Where do you think we're going at
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: this point? Like, I know we talked about where we
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: want the magic, we want this and then that.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: But based on what we have.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Where were we ending up?
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Father-son road trip in the station wagon. And also, he's
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: talking to the voice in his head, which is Ultron,
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: on his side. Like, gotta figure that one out. Like,
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: especially with his son, who's already, like.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: And the fact that we as a whole can see
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Ultron outside when he's talking to him, but no one
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: else can see him, like, that's also meant to make
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: you feel crazy.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Too, as a viewer.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: I wonder if, like, if Billy would be able to see.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: like because he's a magic right yes like.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: And because tommy is like speed and it's it's also
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: interesting because tommy doesn't like he this is also kind
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: of an origin story for tommy because correct he doesn't
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: even know his own power he freaks out because this
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: thing just happens to me sometimes he doesn't know what
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: it is he doesn't know how to harness it he
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: doesn't know something that he can actually utilize he just
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: knows something's going on and he he's uncomfortable with it Um,
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: and I think that's interesting. Um, so we're definitely going
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: to get more on that. Is Ultron going to find
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: a way to interact with Tommy on his own? And
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: you work back his head, right? Like, I don't know.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: And maybe if Tommy had like a tech magic, I
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: could a hundred percent say, oh yeah, that's what's about
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: to happen. But I have no idea like how that
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: would ever, he can't even, he can't see him. So
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: I don't know how that would happen.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: Um, I'm really interested in seeing Tommy, how he like
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: harnesses and develops his power and how he evolves. Because
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: his brother got there at the end of Agatha all along.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: So I'm wondering if Tommy is also going to be
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: able to like tap in all the way.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: I think it's interesting too, because like it's kind of
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: two different approaches for those two kids, because we don't
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: really fully know how aware Billy was of how much
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: power he had over his power. He didn't.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: He had amnesia at first, too. Or what'd you say?
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Was he playing like he had amnesia?
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: Not that he had amnesia, but he wasn't aware. Because
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: there's a point whenever he switches things up on Agatha
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: and he puts her through where he's like, oh no,
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: you're not going to be a problem for me no more.
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: And that doesn't come from nowhere. There's a level of
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: confidence built behind you know that you can run this.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: You know who your mama was.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: But also, you know.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: But that's amnesia if you don't know who your mama is.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? There's a part of him
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: that knows he was playing around with his power before
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: he got there. That's how he was able to break
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: into Agatha's issue. Well, actually, his mom's construct in the
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: first place, right?
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: He knew. Also, are we going to see Billy? I
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: think that Billy... I would love to see Billy. Billy
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: and he has to have Agatha and Toga she's a
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: ghost now so she's like she's riding along with him
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: alongside Ultron riding along with Vision so I think that
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: could be really interesting I think yeah I mean road
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: trip someone has to go to America or someone from
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: America has to come there and I'm going to guess
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: it's going to be Billy coming there because he's going
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: to be trying to say he's already on the hunt
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: for his brother so I'm guessing that's what's going to
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: happen and apparently especially if Vision is showing up on
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: television like, oh, Vision is alive, or whatever. That's going
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: to drive Billy right to the situation. And I think
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: we're also thinking about the news. On one of those newspapers,
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: it mentions that the tech CEOs have been like being
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: taken out. So there's a mystery there too, about like
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: who's taking out these tech bros. So I think, you know,
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: we don't get hints about things unless it's relevant to
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: the main storyline. And so I'm like, who is the
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: mystery mysterious voice talking to Paladin? They have very easy
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: ease of access to the tech. could be anybody could
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: be there's so many tech well and that's what you're
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: saying earlier too like you don't just introduce people out
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: of nowhere so like who do we know in the
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: universe of mcu that is very easily manipulates technology.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna leave it there um I like where you're going. Again,
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: I really like the series so far. Everything about it
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: is very good to me. Sound, writing, pacing, imagery, like
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: everything is right up my alley for me. So I'm
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: going to, I will recommend it. I'm going to continue watching.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: I don't know how you feel. Do you feel the
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: same after we dissected it?
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: I'm going to watch it. But I'm like, I'm reserving
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: how I feel about it until episode four. Okay.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Okay. Very good.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: In the meantime, we appreciate everybody listening and joining us
