- 0:44Speaker 4: It's Leggy on Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five.
- 0:50Speaker 2: They play a certain coverage and so I.
- 0:54Speaker 7: Know, I know where you're going.
- 0:55Speaker 2: But they play a certain coverage, and they played a
- 0:57Speaker 2: couple different ways, and so we wanted to put Speed
- 1:01Speaker 2: at two where Mims was, and then we were outside
- 1:04Speaker 2: with Speed and Sutton, and you know, we kind of
- 1:08Speaker 2: hit that turkey hole. Sometimes that ball might go outside.
- 1:12Speaker 2: There's a heck of a thrown catch and a huge play.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Well, nobody knows how to hit the turkey hole better
- 1:20Speaker 4: than Jeff Legwall from ESPN.
- 1:23Speaker 6: He sees the turkey hole and it's like, got it.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Leggy has brought to you by the International Brotherhood of
- 1:31Speaker 4: Electrical Workers IBW Local sixty eight. Start with a job
- 1:35Speaker 4: and with a career, Like that's an old fashioned expression.
- 1:38Speaker 6: Man the turkey hole. Man, that's that goes.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I don't know if many people would even understand what
- 1:42Speaker 4: the hell he's talking about there.
- 1:44Speaker 6: It's a good one though.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Now sometimes he shows he shows his resume once in
- 1:49Speaker 5: a while.
- 1:50Speaker 4: All right, in such a crazy game and there's so
- 1:54Speaker 4: many storylines from it, what is in your opinion, what
- 1:58Speaker 4: is the biggest story from last night?
- 2:03Speaker 5: You know, I think in any playoff season I've ever covered,
- 2:06Speaker 5: even some that Tyler played in, there's always the nuts game,
- 2:13Speaker 5: the crazy game in there somewhere, you know, whether it's
- 2:17Speaker 5: you know, even in the Super Bowl seasons, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 5: Bradley Roby returning a fumble, you know, late in the
- 2:24Speaker 5: game with the Chiefs going in to do whatever they're
- 2:27Speaker 5: going to do, or you know, in the twenty thirteen
- 2:31Speaker 5: they you know, they have the shootout in Dallas, which
- 2:33Speaker 5: is kind of a crazy game in its own right,
- 2:36Speaker 5: not not like yesterday's but that is a It's on
- 2:42Speaker 5: my short list of nuttiest games I've ever been to.
- 2:45Speaker 5: So it was a different vibe. And sometimes when things
- 2:51Speaker 5: go in your way, that's just the kind of game
- 2:53Speaker 5: you win, and when they're not, you know, that's the
- 2:57Speaker 5: game you don't win.
- 2:58Speaker 4: You know, in that Doubs in that Dallas game has
- 3:00Speaker 4: created fifty one forty eight something like that's along those lines. Yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 4: but wasn't one of the defining moments an interception I'm
- 3:06Speaker 4: forgetting the linebacker's name. I apologize, But wasn't one of
- 3:09Speaker 4: the defining things the interception.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Late late Yeah, gave Romo through an interception?
- 3:14Speaker 6: Yeah, who was that?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Who was that?
- 3:17Speaker 7: I'm trying to was.
- 3:19Speaker 6: It was?
- 3:20Speaker 3: It was?
- 3:20Speaker 6: It was Danny Trevathan. So even in the crazy, crazy.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Offensive game, you got a defining defensive moment, which is
- 3:28Speaker 4: kind of like last night too.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Yeah, or you know that Peyton Manning's run for a
- 3:33Speaker 5: touchdown will always be my memory and I did, but
- 3:35Speaker 5: uh the uh yeah, the pick sixes, it's just crazy
- 3:40Speaker 5: and Jameis Winston with maybe the quote of the ages
- 3:43Speaker 5: after the game, and you know, I want the.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty delivered from pick sixes.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Yeah, deliver me from the pick sixes. But you gotta
- 3:54Speaker 5: like waking up and say it delivered me from being short.
- 3:58Speaker 7: You know they're going to have that's our Here we are.
- 4:02Speaker 1: It feels like the big question of the day is defensively,
- 4:06Speaker 1: why not just match up Pats or Tan more of.
- 4:10Speaker 7: Time? That's a great question.
- 4:11Speaker 5: I by my again, it's my data, you know, charted
- 4:16Speaker 5: my hand, So take it.
- 4:17Speaker 7: For what it's worth.
- 4:18Speaker 5: But the two games they've matched Sir Tan the fewest
- 4:21Speaker 5: this year are Baltimore and yesterday.
- 4:24Speaker 7: And you tell me what it looks like when they don't.
- 4:27Speaker 5: And I know, you know they feel like they're tipping
- 4:30Speaker 5: their hand when they do it.
- 4:32Speaker 7: I get it.
- 4:33Speaker 5: But to me and sometimes in the NFL, overthinking is
- 4:38Speaker 5: a disease, I think. And that's just overthinking. If if
- 4:42Speaker 5: cirtain look the snap Sir Tan was on Judy yesterday,
- 4:47Speaker 5: nothing happened.
- 4:48Speaker 7: I mean he knocked the ball away one time. That
- 4:52Speaker 7: another time I.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Saw Jerry just simply shut the route down because he
- 4:55Speaker 5: knew it was going nowhere.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Uh.
- 4:58Speaker 7: But yeah, it's it is a the question.
- 5:01Speaker 5: And you know he cut Sean Payton kind of pushed
- 5:03Speaker 5: it aside after the game, Well.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Because whose decision is that that Sean Payns or is
- 5:07Speaker 4: that VJ scheme?
- 5:08Speaker 6: Like who's that?
- 5:11Speaker 5: You know, Look, the defensive coordinators vance Joseph, But I
- 5:14Speaker 5: refuse to believe Sean Payton doesn't sign off on every
- 5:17Speaker 5: single thing that team does. A long time Sean Payton
- 5:22Speaker 5: associate Joe Vitt was even the team's head coach at
- 5:27Speaker 5: some point, you know, when when everybody was with the
- 5:30Speaker 5: Saints and and Peyton was suspended. I just think that
- 5:35Speaker 5: he knows what the defensive game plan is and and
- 5:39Speaker 5: has signed off on it. And I think that's why
- 5:41Speaker 5: last night he sort of said, look, that's something we
- 5:44Speaker 5: have to look at. And I think he is correct
- 5:47Speaker 5: in that, but that it is telling to me that,
- 5:49Speaker 5: you know, they didn't match him on Flowers very often
- 5:52Speaker 5: in Baltimore, they didn't match him on Judy very much
- 5:54Speaker 5: last night, And those are the two games that got away,
- 5:57Speaker 5: the only two games that got away that bad with
- 6:00Speaker 5: this defense thirty.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Games now, and it goes back to the start of
- 6:05Speaker 3: Sean Payton being the head coach here that the Broncs
- 6:08Speaker 3: have yet to have one hundred yard rusher that seems
- 6:12Speaker 3: like a lot of games not to at least have one.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Well, they don't hand them the ball very often. I
- 6:18Speaker 5: think that would be my you know, you know, and
- 6:23Speaker 5: I wonder, you know, is his estimate and alcatraz I mean,
- 6:26Speaker 5: get him out, you know, pre Audric would be my
- 6:30Speaker 5: t shirt of the day. But uh, you know, look,
- 6:35Speaker 5: Jamonte Williams has come back from the injury. Was nothing
- 6:38Speaker 5: short of remarkable, and he deserves every ounce of credit,
- 6:44Speaker 5: you know, rose pedals whatever for doing it, because a
- 6:47Speaker 5: lot of guys wouldn't have done it.
- 6:50Speaker 7: But eight of his last.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Twelve carries over two games have gone for zero or
- 6:56Speaker 5: negative yards eight or twelve.
- 6:57Speaker 6: That's crazy.
- 6:58Speaker 5: And so something happening when he's in the line either
- 7:02Speaker 5: not handling business up front. He's missing the whole combination
- 7:05Speaker 5: of both that working, but that part of the game
- 7:09Speaker 5: is missing. And they're consistently sort of second down runs
- 7:15Speaker 5: go nowhere, so suddenly you're in a third down you
- 7:18Speaker 5: don't want to be in, you know. And last night
- 7:21Speaker 5: they had what that a nineteen second possession and a
- 7:24Speaker 5: forty second possession Because they get so out of whack
- 7:28Speaker 5: about the run game, they just throw it three times
- 7:31Speaker 5: three incompletions and they're punting, and that's just not a
- 7:35Speaker 5: way you can live in the big games.
- 7:37Speaker 1: He couldn't help himself. Sean just couldn't help himself. He
- 7:40Speaker 1: got excited, he knew his guy was having a night,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and he just couldn't help himself. That's my opinion, Jeff.
- 7:47Speaker 5: No, And I think you know, I I know defensive
- 7:51Speaker 5: coordinators in the league who who call guys, they say,
- 7:58Speaker 5: guys take a field trip on the playsheet.
- 8:00Speaker 7: They want to get to it all. And you know, Sean's.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Playsheet is legendary, big, it's drive in movie size, and
- 8:10Speaker 5: I think sometimes he really does want to get to
- 8:14Speaker 5: a lot of it because he feels good about the plan,
- 8:17Speaker 5: as any coach would. You're always going to feel good
- 8:19Speaker 5: about your plan. And I think his desire to rotate
- 8:24Speaker 5: personnel groupings and stress the defense that way sometimes gets
- 8:30Speaker 5: away from from rhythm or or what is needed in
- 8:34Speaker 5: that moment. But you know, again, he's he's coached this
- 8:37Speaker 5: way a long time and had a lot of success,
- 8:39Speaker 5: so it's going to be hard for him to to
- 8:42Speaker 5: sort of step away from that.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Jeff.
- 8:44Speaker 3: If I may, I want to take you back to
- 8:47Speaker 3: your childhood oh, when you're a young kid on the couch.
- 8:52Speaker 3: A movie, an inn, a movie, animated movie hit the
- 8:55Speaker 3: big screen, and there was a big part of big
- 9:01Speaker 3: part of the movie when all sudden Pinocchio got his
- 9:05Speaker 3: strings cut by Giuseppe or giuseppepett. Think I knew it
- 9:12Speaker 3: was over the g by Geppetto. It sure seemed like
- 9:16Speaker 3: last night that maybe some strings were cut, even on
- 9:20Speaker 3: some of the dumb throws.
- 9:21Speaker 6: I was excited that.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Listen, the robot left the room for a little bit,
- 9:25Speaker 3: and I even saw you know, roll out right try
- 9:28Speaker 3: to cross it all the way back to the left,
- 9:29Speaker 3: gets broke up of a bad pass. But it felt
- 9:33Speaker 3: like strings were cut a little bit more last night
- 9:35Speaker 3: for bo Nicks.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Yeah, maybe some out of necessity. You know, that's sort
- 9:40Speaker 5: of the game. You're in, this frantic this frantic game.
- 9:44Speaker 5: But you know, it is their first pass play over
- 9:47Speaker 5: fifty yards all season. It's probably the first game if
- 9:51Speaker 5: I go back here and look at my charts where
- 9:56Speaker 5: you know, his most completions were not one to ten yards,
- 10:02Speaker 5: it was you know, other categories. That's probably the first
- 10:05Speaker 5: time that's happened this year. So there was you know,
- 10:09Speaker 5: and he's been far more comfortable in the mid range,
- 10:12Speaker 5: you know, the mid rats jumper as it were, than
- 10:14Speaker 5: he has been. And I will say the one thing
- 10:19Speaker 5: that sort of still flags for me is and what
- 10:23Speaker 5: he's doing is needed, and it is part of the
- 10:26Speaker 5: growth is you're willing to trust the receiver coming out
- 10:30Speaker 5: of the break. You know, anticipatory throws haven't been you know,
- 10:36Speaker 5: he hasn't had those very often this year, and then
- 10:38Speaker 5: they're getting more and more as the games progress here
- 10:41Speaker 5: and a lot of that is trust that you know
- 10:45Speaker 5: the receiver's going to be there. But in the latest
- 10:48Speaker 5: round of data, the Broncos only have one receiver in
- 10:53Speaker 5: the top eighty eight players in the league, one in
- 10:58Speaker 5: tight window targets. So bow Knicks trusts one guy in
- 11:03Speaker 5: those situations and it's Courtland Sutton, who's thirteenth in.
- 11:07Speaker 7: That category in the league.
- 11:09Speaker 5: So that that has to change a little bit as
- 11:13Speaker 5: the games get better, because people are going to give
- 11:16Speaker 5: Courtland more and more attention and it's going to test
- 11:19Speaker 5: what you're talking about. Scotty his willingness to make the throw.
- 11:23Speaker 5: Lay always used to say, you want the guy who
- 11:27Speaker 5: takes care of the ball, but you also want the
- 11:29Speaker 5: guy who makes the throw to win you the game.
- 11:31Speaker 4: It's not like there's a lot of rookie quarterbacks out
- 11:34Speaker 4: there playing, so the you know, the competition is small.
- 11:37Speaker 4: But passing yards, bo Nicks's first with twenty eight hundred
- 11:41Speaker 4: and forty two passing touchdowns, seventeen first completions, first two
- 11:45Speaker 4: seventy seven, passer rating eighty seven to nine first downs
- 11:48Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty six, both second in those categories.
- 11:51Speaker 7: Is her offense attempts resilient? He's is he's one or
- 11:57Speaker 7: two in attempts? Right?
- 11:58Speaker 6: I don't have that, so I'll take your word for it.
- 12:00Speaker 6: I just don't know.
- 12:03Speaker 7: He's busy, he's got the keys to the car right now.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Is he the offensive rookie of the year.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Well, I will tell you, I mean quarterback. Degree of
- 12:12Speaker 5: difficulty matters. I think in all those awards and nothing,
- 12:17Speaker 5: nothing has the degree of difficulty probably for a rookie
- 12:20Speaker 5: you've had a quarterback.
- 12:22Speaker 7: But Brock Bowers is being historical right now.
- 12:25Speaker 5: And if you're just going by whatever, or you know,
- 12:29Speaker 5: Jared Vers is probably having as good a rookie season
- 12:32Speaker 5: as bow Knicks. But he plays defensive tackle, so nobody cares.
- 12:35Speaker 5: But I think there are guys playing to bow Nix's
- 12:39Speaker 5: level and maybe even a little higher, But the fact
- 12:42Speaker 5: he plays quarterback could could well get him a very
- 12:45Speaker 5: nice trophy.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Okay, and plus, just be honest, there was a prejudice
- 12:49Speaker 3: against him coming in being the sixth of six quarterbacks drafted.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Is it a fair expectation that the Broncos make the
- 12:56Speaker 4: playoffs right now? Meaning it would be disappointing right now,
- 13:00Speaker 4: starting today if they didn't.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Well, yeah, I mean there's there's only one other team
- 13:05Speaker 5: with more than five wins in the AFC, and it's
- 13:07Speaker 5: the Colts, and they play them next.
- 13:09Speaker 7: So they beat the Colts, it's pretty hard to knock
- 13:12Speaker 7: them out of the playoffs at that point.
- 13:14Speaker 6: Pretty cool, all right, Jeff? What a fun ride? You
- 13:16Speaker 6: got any plans for the break doing anything fun?
- 13:19Speaker 7: I think they're gonna keep me busy. I don't think
- 13:22Speaker 7: they're Oh, you know, Broncos.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Broncos are a hot team, even in the bye week.
- 13:29Speaker 7: Huh.
- 13:31Speaker 5: You know, there's they always got me doing a little something.
- 13:33Speaker 5: They got a little thing called the draft I have
- 13:35Speaker 5: to mess around with too. But uh, you know, I
- 13:39Speaker 5: just thought of this today, and it's a funny number
- 13:41Speaker 5: for you guys to kick around. But the Broncos have
- 13:44Speaker 5: outscored the Chiefs and surrendered one fewer point, So there
- 13:49Speaker 5: you have it.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Numbers are nutty, and a comment on Shanny getting passed
- 13:53Speaker 4: over ridiculous.
- 13:56Speaker 7: But that's just me.
- 13:57Speaker 5: I'm only one guy on the committee, but it's ridiculous.
- 14:01Speaker 5: He beat the guy that's up head to head. I
- 14:03Speaker 5: don't know what more you want, but anyway it is.
- 14:06Speaker 1: It's a bona fide walk. He's getting in right.
- 14:10Speaker 5: But if he doesn't, my head will explode in a
- 14:13Speaker 5: meeting and it will be very big news.
- 14:14Speaker 3: But why are you hearing any reasons? Why not? Now?
- 14:20Speaker 5: You never really do Scotty at this point in the process.
- 14:23Speaker 5: I mean, Holmgren's just a finalist at this point, so
- 14:26Speaker 5: he hadn't made.
- 14:27Speaker 7: It in yet.
- 14:27Speaker 5: But uh no, it's just ridiculous. I mean, just start
- 14:33Speaker 5: the list that you know. I'm not sure there's another
- 14:35Speaker 5: coach I've ever heard of that had three first generation
- 14:39Speaker 5: assistants take teams to Super Bowls and two of them
- 14:42Speaker 5: won it. His offense is half the league is running
- 14:46Speaker 5: his offense. I mean, the guy's Obi Wan for modern football.
- 14:50Speaker 5: I don't know what people want, man he won two
- 14:53Speaker 5: in a row.
- 14:54Speaker 1: So but hey, Mike Holgrin's got a coaching tree also,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and he's probably worthy of it. He's got Andy Reid,
- 15:01Speaker 1: he's got growed In, he's got all the coaches that
- 15:02Speaker 1: came underneath Andy Reid. But even his coaching tree isn't
- 15:06Speaker 1: even comparable to Mike Shanahans.
- 15:08Speaker 5: No again, Tyler, I don't know of many coaches who
- 15:11Speaker 5: had three different first generation assistants guys who were on
- 15:15Speaker 5: his staff take teams to Super Bowls, and two of
- 15:19Speaker 5: the guys won it. So it just remarkable. I, you know,
- 15:24Speaker 5: I He's a Hall of Famer in every way, and
- 15:27Speaker 5: usually almost always people like that get in. It's just
- 15:32Speaker 5: never the timetable any of us would like.
- 15:34Speaker 6: All Right, we appreciate thank you, Jeff, Jeff Legwall.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
