- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Thursday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:05Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal here with Alana Rizzo. We have some news
- 0:08Speaker 1: this morning, Andrew McCutchen signing a minor leak deal with
- 0:11Speaker 1: the Texas Rangers.
- 0:12Speaker 2: That from Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We have two games from the WBC in the books
- 0:18Speaker 1: Korea be Chechia and Australia, and a bit of an
- 0:21Speaker 1: upset over Chinese Taipei last night or this morning, however
- 0:25Speaker 1: you want to look at it WBC for the rest
- 0:28Speaker 1: of the tournament. Rest of the groups starts tomorrow. You'll
- 0:32Speaker 1: have Team USA in action against Brazil. That'll be on Fox.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I'll be there for that one and all the way
- 0:38Speaker 1: through the WBC SOLA. It'll be a WBC heavy show today.
- 0:43Speaker 3: And I love it because I love the World Baseball
- 0:45Speaker 3: Classic and Ken, all of our World Baseball Classic coverage
- 0:49Speaker 3: is brought to you by our friends at Fox one.
- 0:51Speaker 3: It's live stream all your Fox favorites together in one place,
- 0:54Speaker 3: including all World Baseball Classic games over the next few weeks,
- 0:58Speaker 3: and after that the best Made League Baseball action all
- 1:01Speaker 3: season long. So Ken, let's start our WBC coverage on
- 1:04Speaker 3: this fair territory with one reason from you why each
- 1:08Speaker 3: of the top four seeds can win the World Baseball Classic.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Let us start with Team Venezuela.
- 1:17Speaker 2: All right, Venezuela.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Obviously, they're depleted a little bit because aw Twova is
- 1:21Speaker 1: not playing due to the insurance issue and Pablo Lopez
- 1:24Speaker 1: of course having Tommy John surgery that really hurts their
- 1:27Speaker 1: pitching staff. But if you ask me, the reason to
- 1:31Speaker 1: like this team in this tournament is the dynamic combination
- 1:35Speaker 1: of Ronald Acuna Junior and Jackson Churio. These are two
- 1:38Speaker 1: of the most electric players in the game. Not to
- 1:40Speaker 1: take anything away from anyone else on the Venezuela roster,
- 1:44Speaker 1: including of course Salvador Perez, but if you're going to
- 1:48Speaker 1: see them maybe rake a run in this tournament, it's
- 1:51Speaker 1: gotta be with a Cunya and Churio doing some big things.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Okay, we talked about Venezuela, but what about the Dominican
- 1:58Speaker 3: Republic can I don't think people are giving the dr
- 2:01Speaker 3: perhaps as much credit or credence as they should be
- 2:05Speaker 3: A lot of.
- 2:06Speaker 1: One thousand percent and their lineup is every bit is dangerous,
- 2:10Speaker 1: if not more dangerous than Team USAS and who am
- 2:13Speaker 1: I talking about. I'm talking about vlad Junior and Tatis
- 2:17Speaker 1: and Manny Machado and Julio Rodriguez and Katel Marte and
- 2:22Speaker 1: Rado Perdomo, on and on and on. And you might say, okay,
- 2:26Speaker 1: but they can't pitch.
- 2:27Speaker 2: With the US. I'm not so sure about that either.
- 2:30Speaker 1: It's Christopher Sanchez at the top of the rotation, It's
- 2:33Speaker 1: Brian Beao from the Red Sox, Luis Severino, and overall,
- 2:37Speaker 1: this is a team that really can do some things
- 2:40Speaker 1: in this tournament because of what they have offensively.
- 2:44Speaker 2: So I do like.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Them, and I would think, along with Team USA, they
- 2:49Speaker 1: are one of the favorites right now.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I would certainly think so. All right, Team Japan obviously
- 2:54Speaker 3: the champions can the last time the WBC was played
- 2:58Speaker 3: three years ago. What about this team do you like
- 3:00Speaker 3: as far as a reason that they might be champions again?
- 3:04Speaker 1: This is the team that has won three of the
- 3:05Speaker 1: five tournaments and a team that you might not recognize
- 3:09Speaker 1: all of the names because not all of these players
- 3:11Speaker 1: are in Major League Baseball, a number of them are
- 3:13Speaker 1: in NPB, but they still have a formidable group. And
- 3:17Speaker 1: what I like about them the most is what you
- 3:19Speaker 1: see there the team unity and the style of play.
- 3:21Speaker 1: These guys go about it the right way. They play
- 3:25Speaker 1: a fundamentally sound game.
- 3:26Speaker 2: We know this from watching them over the years.
- 3:28Speaker 1: They're a joy to watch actually from a baseball standpoint.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So their rotation without Otani is not going to be
- 3:36Speaker 1: necessarily as strong. They still have Yamamoto, they still have
- 3:39Speaker 1: Chicano from the Colorado Rockies, and they still have Kokuchi
- 3:43Speaker 1: as well as the reigning Japanese Sawamura Award winner. He's
- 3:48Speaker 1: a picture named hiromi Eto. So they're going to be
- 3:51Speaker 1: as always right in the mix. Do they have enough
- 3:55Speaker 1: firepower with Mura, Kami and Okamoto and all of these
- 3:59Speaker 1: guys to beat the US.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And beat the Dominican I don't know. Seya Suzuki also
- 4:04Speaker 2: with this team, Masa Taka.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yoshida, all these guys, But at the same time, we
- 4:09Speaker 1: know that they're going to be there, no question about it.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And let me ask you this about Team Japan in particular,
- 4:15Speaker 3: when you look at the dr lineup that has of
- 4:17Speaker 3: course the names that you mentioned, Juan Soto all of
- 4:19Speaker 3: the things, and then you have Venezuela as well. And
- 4:21Speaker 3: then you look at Team USA, which we're going to
- 4:23Speaker 3: get to. I think power hitters. I think guys that
- 4:26Speaker 3: are like hitting the ball over the fence. When I
- 4:28Speaker 3: think of Japan, I don't necessarily think of sluggers, but
- 4:31Speaker 3: they do have a unique style of play. Perhaps is
- 4:34Speaker 3: that an advantage for Team Japan.
- 4:37Speaker 1: It has been in the past, and you're right, Alonge,
- 4:40Speaker 1: it's interesting because home runs win, we know that they
- 4:43Speaker 1: have that element. Seya, Suzuki and Murakami, of course are
- 4:46Speaker 1: great sluggers, but they do put the ball in play
- 4:50Speaker 1: generally speaking, and they do things.
- 4:52Speaker 2: To make teams uncomfortable. So yes, that does give them
- 4:55Speaker 2: an advantage.
- 4:56Speaker 1: But in this tournament, it's such a short press time frame,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and then of course the knockout round is one and done.
- 5:04Speaker 1: It's going to be really interesting to see how this
- 5:07Speaker 1: goes about with them and the Dominican in the US,
- 5:11Speaker 1: just kind of how they play against each other.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Yes, Team USA, can you look up and down the
- 5:16Speaker 3: lineup one through nine, you begin to salivate. I don't
- 5:20Speaker 3: know that there has ever been a more potent lineup
- 5:22Speaker 3: assembled under one team than Team USA. Why will they
- 5:26Speaker 3: win if they do well?
- 5:28Speaker 1: We've seen the last two days the exhibition games, that
- 5:31Speaker 1: they've played in Arizona, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies. They
- 5:35Speaker 1: outscored those teams twenty nine to five. Now, granted it's
- 5:38Speaker 1: a spring training type environment. Those teams, the Giants and Rockies,
- 5:42Speaker 1: had lost some of their players for the WBC, but
- 5:45Speaker 1: we saw that potent US lineup on display and that
- 5:49Speaker 1: is the main reason it can win. But as I
- 5:52Speaker 1: say here, it's the best roster they've brought to the WBC.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I know they won in seventeen.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I know they had a strong roster in two thousand
- 5:59Speaker 1: and six, but this roster top to bottom, including the
- 6:03Speaker 1: pitching staff, especially the pitching staff, is its strongest.
- 6:06Speaker 2: We have not seen both Cy.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Young winners on a team USA entry in the WBC.
- 6:12Speaker 1: We'll see it in this tournament, Schiens and Scooball. We'll
- 6:15Speaker 1: see Logan Web, a top five CY Young finisher. He's
- 6:18Speaker 1: pitching the opening game against Brazil. So they are a
- 6:22Speaker 1: really balanced, interesting group. To be sure, they seem to be,
- 6:27Speaker 1: at least.
- 6:27Speaker 2: So far, on something of a mission.
- 6:30Speaker 1: They have this togetherness that maybe Mark Durosa has said,
- 6:33Speaker 1: they didn't quite have to this extent the last time.
- 6:37Speaker 2: So I'm really interested to see how they fare here.
- 6:39Speaker 2: They are, of course, like every other team.
- 6:41Speaker 1: In this tournament. Hell bet on winning now.
- 6:44Speaker 2: That they've got to go show it.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Mark Durosa, the skipper, said he really wanted to focus
- 6:48Speaker 3: more on assembling a team unit than just putting a
- 6:51Speaker 3: bunch of different players together. Wanted to make sure that
- 6:54Speaker 3: they molded together. Well, okay, we've talked about the top four, ken,
- 6:58Speaker 3: what about a dark Is there a team that maybe
- 7:01Speaker 3: we're not paying attention to but could shake things up
- 7:04Speaker 3: a bit.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I'm going to give you two, Alana, and I'm not
- 7:07Speaker 1: going to mention Team Mexico because they are right outside
- 7:10Speaker 1: the top four in my opinion. But the two i'll
- 7:13Speaker 1: give you are Italy and Canada. Italy has a number
- 7:17Speaker 1: of major leaguers. They're in USA's group, by the way,
- 7:19Speaker 1: in Houston, Jack Callian one, Michael Lorenzen, Jacob Marci, Aaron Nola,
- 7:26Speaker 1: Vinnie Pasquentino, and Kyle Tiel. Those are some of the
- 7:30Speaker 1: major leaguers that they have on their roster. They're going
- 7:33Speaker 1: to be a formidable challenge for anyone that they play.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And then there's Canada, same kind of thing. A number
- 7:39Speaker 1: of major leaguers on their roster as well, Jamison Taione,
- 7:43Speaker 1: the big pitcher, Freddie Freeman not playing this time around,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but they still have the Naylor brothers, they still have
- 7:48Speaker 1: Tyler O'Neill, Owen Casey Denzel Clark. So they should be
- 7:53Speaker 1: an interesting team to watch, a fun team to watch,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and sure I can see either one of these teams
- 7:58Speaker 1: maybe pulling off an upset or two, maybe even getting
- 8:01Speaker 1: out of pool play.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Adam Odovino also with Team Italy, recently retired of course
- 8:07Speaker 3: for him Team Italy, though the coaches this picture can
- 8:09Speaker 3: made me laugh. Of course, you don't necessarily have to
- 8:12Speaker 3: have the same lineage to the country as a coach
- 8:16Speaker 3: as you do as a player, but you can see
- 8:18Speaker 3: their manager Francisco Cervelli, the hitting coach Tod Hipposava, of course,
- 8:22Speaker 3: the great Yankee pitching coach Dave Righetti, bullpen coach sal Fassanoh,
- 8:27Speaker 3: that's definitely Italian, and hitting coach Frank Mencino. So good times.
- 8:31Speaker 3: This is a fun tournament. But I love to see
- 8:33Speaker 3: this and perhaps you're right, perhaps the Italians are the
- 8:37Speaker 3: dark horse team of the WBC. All right, one more
- 8:42Speaker 3: question for you. Someone that isn't necessarily a household name yet,
- 8:46Speaker 3: but could be by the end of this tournament.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Well, it's hard to find that, I guess in some
- 8:54Speaker 1: respects because someone who might not be a household name
- 8:57Speaker 1: in our country might be a household name in their country.
- 9:01Speaker 2: So I guess we look at a guy like henromi Eto,
- 9:04Speaker 2: who I mentioned earlier.
- 9:05Speaker 1: He's the best pitcher in Japan right now, who is
- 9:08Speaker 1: not in Major League Baseball. But I'll give you a
- 9:10Speaker 1: dark horse from Team USA. Now, it's the name we
- 9:13Speaker 1: all know, but he's going to play, and he's going
- 9:16Speaker 1: to play more than Alex Regman did in twenty seventeen,
- 9:19Speaker 1: Bobby Rich Junior in twenty twenty three. Those were the
- 9:22Speaker 1: young guys on those teams. The young guy on this
- 9:25Speaker 1: team is Roman Anthony and he already is making a
- 9:29Speaker 1: strong impression. He's going to be a starting outfielder for
- 9:32Speaker 1: Team USA at just twenty one years old. So I
- 9:36Speaker 1: know that I can say Roman Anthony is a dark horse.
- 9:39Speaker 1: He's got a big contract, he's a big prospect, but
- 9:42Speaker 1: he is the youngest member of Team USA, and I
- 9:46Speaker 1: do expect him to make an impact.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Yeah, Roman Anthony, the Roman Empire has certainly been all
- 9:52Speaker 3: the talk for the Boston Red Sox. They think very
- 9:55Speaker 3: highly of this young man, as they should. Okay, when
- 9:57Speaker 3: you're looking about the pool play can in terms of
- 10:00Speaker 3: games that you're most excited to see, of course, Tmosa
- 10:03Speaker 3: takes the field tomorrow for the first time against Brazili.
- 10:06Speaker 3: You had mentioned you're on the call on Fox. Is
- 10:09Speaker 3: there a pool play game that you're most excited to
- 10:12Speaker 3: see in this upcoming tournament?
- 10:14Speaker 2: USA Mexico?
- 10:16Speaker 1: And that was a game the last time that was
- 10:19Speaker 1: incredibly dramatic. It was in Phoenix the last time. It'll
- 10:22Speaker 1: be in Houston this time, and of course you have
- 10:25Speaker 1: both those states. Texas and Arizona are quite close to
- 10:28Speaker 1: Mexico on the Mexican border, so.
- 10:30Speaker 2: You'll have a number of fans from.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Mexico in dyke In Park in Houston.
- 10:35Speaker 2: That's one element of this.
- 10:36Speaker 1: And the other element is Mexico is a really good
- 10:39Speaker 1: team and they have something this time that if they
- 10:42Speaker 1: had the last time, they might have won the whole thing.
- 10:45Speaker 1: And that's a closer. Andres Munos from the Seattle Mariners
- 10:49Speaker 1: is in this tournament. Now they don't have Julio Urias
- 10:52Speaker 1: they had the last time, who was packful for them.
- 10:55Speaker 1: But at the same time, Mexico with Randy Rosaeda and
- 10:59Speaker 1: some of the other plays that they will boast in
- 11:01Speaker 1: this tournament, they're gonna be a fun team to watch
- 11:04Speaker 1: and that game is going to be probably the biggest
- 11:07Speaker 1: of the USA's group going forward. Here in pool play.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Benji Gill, the team manager for Team Mexico going
- 11:15Speaker 3: up against Mark Durosa of Team USA. All with WBC.
- 11:20Speaker 3: All right here, of course, from our friends at Fox one.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Don't forget there's a lot more than just the WBC,
- 11:27Speaker 3: from the WBC through the World Series, to the World Cup,

- 11:46Speaker 3: Fox one streaming now. Time now for Grill and Ken.
- 11:57Speaker 3: We're gonna go ahead and keep the WBC theme going here.
- 12:00Speaker 3: We're unfair territory with Ken Rosenthal on this Thursday. So
- 12:02Speaker 3: I'll ask you, because you are, as we mentioned on
- 12:05Speaker 3: the call, how is covering the WBC different from a
- 12:09Speaker 3: playoff series or a playoff game.
- 12:14Speaker 1: It's not that much different in Alanna, honestly, because the
- 12:17Speaker 1: intensity is really high. I don't know that the attention
- 12:21Speaker 1: and the media contingent for one of these games is
- 12:23Speaker 1: what it is for an LCS game or a World
- 12:26Speaker 1: Series game. But I will tell you this story and
- 12:28Speaker 1: you'll appreciate this, Elana as a former dugout reporter yourself.
- 12:32Speaker 1: So for many years, really until twenty twenty three, I
- 12:38Speaker 1: wore in my ear one IFB in just one ear
- 12:42Speaker 1: after the WBC in twenty twenty three in Miami.
- 12:46Speaker 2: It was so loud.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I needed to do something different, and I was talking
- 12:51Speaker 1: to our audio people and they said, you can get
- 12:52Speaker 1: with the rock Stars where the double monitors in both
- 12:55Speaker 1: ears and they also have as part of that kit present.
- 13:00Speaker 2: So I turned to that.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And it was all because of the semifinals and finals
- 13:05Speaker 1: in the WBC, So it was loud, and from that perspective,
- 13:10Speaker 1: it is like a playoff game maybe in some respects
- 13:14Speaker 1: in Miami.
- 13:14Speaker 2: If you have say the.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Dominican Republic playing Venezuela or the Dominican Republic playing in
- 13:20Speaker 1: the US, it can be even louder. The crowd is
- 13:22Speaker 1: divided and it's a lot of fun. It's just incredible
- 13:26Speaker 1: atmosphere and an absolute blast, different than a playoff game,
- 13:30Speaker 1: but unique and special in its own way.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Can let's expand on that for a moment. The atmosphere.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I mean, you think about games in the United States,
- 13:39Speaker 3: and of course there are fans and they're boisterous and
- 13:41Speaker 3: they're having a great time. But I don't think of
- 13:43Speaker 3: our fans as having a bunch of props. You go
- 13:45Speaker 3: to these WBC games or you know, winter Ball and
- 13:48Speaker 3: Venezuela or whatever, and there's props, and there's music, and
- 13:51Speaker 3: there's chants, and there's traditions and speak to the atmosphere
- 13:55Speaker 3: creating to all of that noise that you were just
- 13:58Speaker 3: talking about. And how much people really get into.
- 14:00Speaker 2: This, well, the one thing that defines this tournament is passion.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Passion from the players and yes, passion from the fans.
- 14:09Speaker 2: And that is.
- 14:10Speaker 1: At I would say a higher level, a more intense
- 14:13Speaker 1: level than what you would see normally in I don't know,
- 14:17Speaker 1: even a playoff game, and certainly, don't get me wrong,
- 14:21Speaker 1: playoff games fans are really intense, but national pride is
- 14:24Speaker 1: at stake here and maybe not for the US so
- 14:27Speaker 1: much as for the Latin American countries and for Japan, Korea,
- 14:31Speaker 1: some of the Asian countries. That passion, that feeling of
- 14:35Speaker 1: needing to win this tournament, badly wanting to win this tournament.
- 14:40Speaker 2: That takes the fan.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Level to another area, and that's what makes it so cool.
- 14:46Speaker 1: So we've seen it grow in the US and we've
- 14:49Speaker 1: seen people become more interested, fans become more interested. But
- 14:53Speaker 1: it's that passion from the other countries that kind of
- 14:57Speaker 1: is what we had to catch up to, both as fans,
- 15:01Speaker 1: that level of it, and also from the player's perspective,
- 15:04Speaker 1: they didn't necessarily see it the same way as they
- 15:08Speaker 1: do now.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Paul Golchman has talked about this.
- 15:10Speaker 1: He is the only US player to appear for Team
- 15:13Speaker 1: USA in three WBCs, and he said, going back to
- 15:16Speaker 1: twenty seventeen, his first one, that a lot of the
- 15:20Speaker 1: best players didn't play, and the team that took the
- 15:23Speaker 1: field kind of had a chip on his shoulder because hey,
- 15:26Speaker 1: they knew that people were saying this is not the
- 15:28Speaker 1: best US team.
- 15:29Speaker 2: That's not a problem anymore.
- 15:32Speaker 3: One more question about the WBC and then we'll get
- 15:34Speaker 3: into some other baseball related stuff. Questions from our chat.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Why are there not challenges in the WBC. Obviously there
- 15:42Speaker 3: are challenges now in Major League Baseball. The ABS system
- 15:45Speaker 3: is coming into play this season in twenty twenty six.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Why not in the World Baseball Classic.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Well, because ABS has not been used yet in Major
- 15:54Speaker 1: League Baseball, and I don't know that all of the
- 15:57Speaker 1: stadiums around the world are equipped with ABS.
- 15:59Speaker 2: In fact, I'm pretty sure they're not. That is the reason.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Once this takes hold in Major League Baseball, perhaps in
- 16:05Speaker 1: the next WBC, we will see ABS, and I can
- 16:09Speaker 1: anticipate that happening.
- 16:11Speaker 2: But that's why this.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Time around it's not going to be in effect.
- 16:14Speaker 3: All right, makes more sense, all right? Some questions now
- 16:17Speaker 3: coming in from the chat. We always appreciate you guys participating.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Wicked Better fifty four, can you report it in your
- 16:22Speaker 3: latest article that the Astros have interest in Lars Nutbar
- 16:26Speaker 3: and Alex Barlson. Which one is more likely to be
- 16:29Speaker 3: traded to Houston and would be the better fit?
- 16:32Speaker 1: All right, Wicked Better, I didn't report it exactly like that.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I said Saint Louis was a potential fit for the Astros.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I don't know that they have serious interest in newt Bar.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I would imagine they do in Burlson. He's a really
- 16:44Speaker 1: good young player. But it seems to me that a
- 16:48Speaker 1: straight up trade between those two is kind of impossible.
- 16:51Speaker 1: The player that the Astros would like to move is
- 16:54Speaker 1: Estoc Parades. ESOC Parades is not a player the Cardinals need. Now,
- 16:59Speaker 1: if the Cardinals could spin parades somewhere else, for instance, Boston,
- 17:03Speaker 1: then you have something. And this actual combination Houston, Saint Louis,
- 17:08Speaker 1: Boston discussed the parameters of a Brendan Donovan deal, so
- 17:13Speaker 1: they've been down this road before. I don't know that
- 17:16Speaker 1: it's going to happen, but who knows. Maybe it could.
- 17:19Speaker 1: And the difference here is, if indeed this was to
- 17:23Speaker 1: come to.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Pass, I would expect that what Houston would.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Be getting would be a left handed hitting outfielder from Boston,
- 17:30Speaker 1: not from Saint Louis. So I don't know how feasible
- 17:32Speaker 1: it is. But when you're talking about the Astros, they need,
- 17:37Speaker 1: as I wrote, to trade parades for a left handed
- 17:40Speaker 1: hitting outfielder, and obviously the Cardinals have those. Perhaps they
- 17:43Speaker 1: can involve another third team that would take parades.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Keen Ce Carrera nine to five to one wants to
- 17:49Speaker 3: know this. Would it have been crazy to invite Connor
- 17:52Speaker 3: Griffin to the WBC.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yes, that would have been a leap too far.
- 18:00Speaker 1: And the question is valid because, as I mentioned in
- 18:04Speaker 1: twenty seventeen, they took Bregman. In twenty twenty three they
- 18:07Speaker 1: took Bobby Wick Junior, but those guys were established in
- 18:10Speaker 1: the majors by then. This year, thanks to the injury
- 18:14Speaker 1: to Corbyn Carroll Roman, Anthony is like the designated young guy,
- 18:18Speaker 1: the Christian Lightner nineteen ninety two Dream Team version of
- 18:22Speaker 1: what we're going to see here.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Griffin is not yet a major league. He's nineteen years old.
- 18:28Speaker 1: He needs to get involved in the majors before I
- 18:31Speaker 1: would expect the WVC would be a place for him.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Ken, we have a new member to our foul Territory family,
- 18:39Speaker 3: and it's a family that you know very well. Why
- 18:42Speaker 3: don't you tell us who the latest addition to FT is.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Well, yes, I'm very happy to announce Alana that the
- 18:48Speaker 1: Twin Towers from the Baltimore Sun are back under the
- 18:52Speaker 1: same banner. Foul Territory Network proudly welcomes Tim Kirchen and
- 18:56Speaker 1: his son Jeff's show. Is this a great game or what.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Now?
- 19:00Speaker 1: When we were at the Baltimore Sun, were actually at
- 19:02Speaker 1: different parts of the Baltimore Son.
- 19:04Speaker 2: We were competing. He was at the.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Morning Sun and I was at the Evening Sun. You
- 19:09Speaker 1: might ask why are we called the twin Towers because
- 19:13Speaker 1: the late manager of the Baltimore Orioles, Frank Robinson, dubbed
- 19:17Speaker 1: us as such. This was a time when Jakima Ladjawan
- 19:20Speaker 1: and Ralph Samson were the actual Twin Towers. We obviously,
- 19:24Speaker 1: Tim and I are not twin towers. That is why
- 19:27Speaker 1: Frank gave us that nickname. And in short, he would
- 19:30Speaker 1: just call.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Us sometimes the Towers. What are the Towers got for
- 19:33Speaker 2: me today?
- 19:34Speaker 3: That's great? I love that. Obviously neither of you was
- 19:39Speaker 3: blessed with hype, but you were blessed with unbelievable intellect
- 19:42Speaker 3: and unbelievable writing skills. What's the one thing we should
- 19:45Speaker 3: know about Tim Kirchin?
- 19:48Speaker 1: The one thing people should know about Tim Kirchin is
- 19:51Speaker 1: that when he was on the beat for the Dallas
- 19:54Speaker 1: Morning News and then the Baltimore Sun, that nice guy
- 19:57Speaker 1: you see on television, and that is Tim's personality. He's
- 20:01Speaker 1: an extremely nice guy, warm, big heart, but that guy
- 20:05Speaker 1: that wasn't the guy competing against me every day and
- 20:08Speaker 1: kicking my butt every single day. I was hired at
- 20:12Speaker 1: twenty four years old basically to compete with him, and
- 20:16Speaker 1: that was Harlem Globe Trotter's Washington Generals. I mean I
- 20:20Speaker 1: got smoked literally every day. I beat Tim once. I
- 20:23Speaker 1: always tell the story in two years I got him once.
- 20:25Speaker 1: It was not even that big a story. And the
- 20:28Speaker 1: next day he came back Alona with like four different
- 20:31Speaker 1: things that I didn't have, and it was almost as
- 20:34Speaker 1: if he was sending a message to me, don't ever
- 20:37Speaker 1: do that again. It was rather disparaiting, to say the least.
- 20:42Speaker 3: It is a scrappy little guy that Tim Kirchen. Well,
- 20:44Speaker 3: congratulations to Tim and to Jeff Kirchen. We're very happy
- 20:48Speaker 3: that you are a part of the foul Territory family.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Don't forget guys. You can subscribe on YouTube and rate
- 20:53Speaker 3: us five stars wherever you listen. We'll be back with
- 20:56Speaker 3: Dude and Dork of the Week right after.
- 20:58Speaker 4: This bet I'm jam account today. How about in any
- 21:02Speaker 4: sport parlay boost token you can score a bigger payout
- 21:05Speaker 4: if your wager with that token hits tokens can be
- 21:07Speaker 4: used on parlays and on same game parlays. Gambling problem
- 21:10Speaker 4: or concerned, there's help called one eight hundred gambler.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Dude, dude, dude.
- 21:22Speaker 3: We'll start with you, ken On. You're due to the week,
- 21:24Speaker 3: and it's another one of your colleagues that you have
- 21:26Speaker 3: a great amount of respect for. Who isn't the new.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Play by play man for NBC's Sunday Night Baseball Jason
- 21:32Speaker 1: Bennetti Due to the week. Jason worked at Fox for
- 21:35Speaker 1: some time. Of course, he is the Tigers broadcaster on
- 21:38Speaker 1: a daily basis. I had the privilege of doing some
- 21:41Speaker 1: games with him, and believe me, it was a privilege.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Congratulations to Jason.
- 21:45Speaker 1: He is totally deserving of this, and if you haven't
- 21:48Speaker 1: heard him, I highly suggest you listen to him. He
- 21:51Speaker 1: is hilarious, he is knowledgeable, and he is, as they
- 21:54Speaker 1: say in Boston, Alana, wicked smart.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Wicked smart. Congratulations did you and Benetti? I have a
- 22:01Speaker 3: little bit of the same kind of line of thinking,
- 22:03Speaker 3: but mine due to the week is the Detroit Tigers
- 22:07Speaker 3: can the way that they handled the Bennetti announcement kind
- 22:11Speaker 3: of the promotion, of course to getting to NBC Sports,
- 22:14Speaker 3: still praising him, still loving the way that he's going
- 22:18Speaker 3: about his business. Also though, congratulating him for being able
- 22:22Speaker 3: to take on the new role and national role with NBC,
- 22:25Speaker 3: and obviously saying listen, he's still going to be a
- 22:27Speaker 3: part of our broadcast. He's just going to step away.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Good for them, Good for the Tigers for letting him
- 22:32Speaker 3: do it, and for praising him as well. All right,
- 22:36Speaker 3: time now for our dork of the week. All right,
- 22:45Speaker 3: so our dork of the week, go ahead, Ken, you
- 22:47Speaker 3: have the honors.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Two words in need, I say more. Jerkson profar.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Now, his case has not been totally decided yet, but
- 22:55Speaker 1: he has been suspended for one hundred and sixty two
- 22:57Speaker 1: games for a second violation of baseball joint drug policy
- 23:01Speaker 1: with the Union. That decision is under appeal, likely won't
- 23:05Speaker 1: be decided for several weeks, but his suspension will begin Friday.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I had one time a source who would say to me,
- 23:12Speaker 1: you gotta be really dumb to failure drug test.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Well that's two for Jerrekson.
- 23:16Speaker 1: So we'll see how this resolves. But dork of the
- 23:19Speaker 1: week until proven otherwise.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Yeah, my dork of the week. The Atlanta Braves not
- 23:23Speaker 3: because of what Jerks and Profar did. But just because
- 23:26Speaker 3: they basically copied and pasted most of their Jerks and
- 23:29Speaker 3: Profar statement, And it's unfortunate Ken that they had to
- 23:31Speaker 3: do it to begin with. I mean, basically, they just
- 23:34Speaker 3: took out that they were, you know, surprised, because in
- 23:38Speaker 3: twenty twenty five they were surprised and extremely disappointed to
- 23:41Speaker 3: learn that Jerks and Profar tested positive for performance enhancing substance.
- 23:45Speaker 3: But take a look at the twenty twenty six to one, Ken,
- 23:48Speaker 3: They basically just took out the word surprise and were
- 23:51Speaker 3: incredibly disappointed. I mean, it just basically a copy and
- 23:54Speaker 3: paste situation. But honestly, fool me once, shame on you
- 23:57Speaker 3: for me twice, or fool me once, shame on me.
- 24:00Speaker 3: We'll meke to whatever the heck of thing is. But
- 24:01Speaker 3: the point is, Jerks and Profart, what are you doing?
- 24:04Speaker 1: All right? Guys?
- 24:05Speaker 3: Well, thank you so much for watching and listening. We
- 24:09Speaker 3: appreciate it very much. Congratulations again to Jason Benetti, very
- 24:13Speaker 3: proud of you, very happy for you. Don't forget fair
- 24:16Speaker 3: with Ken is back on Monday. Enjoy the World Baseball Classic.
- 24:20Speaker 3: We'll talk to you then,
