- 1:14Johnny Dollar. Today's episode originally aired on June thirtieth of nineteen fifty seven,
- 1:21and the title is The Funny Money Matter from Hollywood. It's time no war,
- 1:30Johnny Dollar. George, Oh hello, Georgie. How's Floyd's of England
- 1:34doing these days? Payments keep on the way they've done it. This morning
- 1:38the company will go broke. What does that mean? One of our old
- 1:40clients quite a character by Oh wait, George, for just once give me
- 1:44a case involving some nice, ordinary, normal person. No, Johnny,
- 1:48first it was that old fuss budget Jedediah Gillett. Yes, but now big
- 1:51Bet Michael Meanie, who was already on half the state Louisiana. Well,
- 1:53yes, I know. But compared to them, Durrango Laramie dell Hard is
- 1:57as normal as they come. Drang what except for one thing, of course?
- 2:01The payment of his insurance premium this morning? What was the matter with
- 2:05it? Forty five hundred dollars Johnny? One hundred dollars bills? You're still
- 2:08here on my desk, one hundred dollars bills? You call this character normal?
- 2:13Listen? Will you? Every one of these bills is counterfeit. Ah,
- 2:17I'll be right over Bob Bailey and the Exciting Adventures of a Man with
- 2:30the Action packed Expense account America's Fabulous Freelance Insurance Investigator. Oh it's truly Johnny
- 2:37Dollar expense account submitted by special Investigator Johnny Dollars two Floyd's of England, North
- 2:57American Offices, Hertford, Connecticut. It's an a kount of expenses incurred during
- 3:00my investigation of the Funny Money Matter. Expense account out of one a dollar
- 3:09even taxi from my apartment. At George Reid's office, I found him sitting
- 3:14steering brimley at a pile of paper money spread around on the top of his
- 3:16desk. Oh. There they are, Johnny, forty five one hundred dollar
- 3:21bills, and every one of them as phonny as I've ever seen. Look
- 3:23at them. Yeah, yeah, see what you mean? Where we turned?
- 3:30These aren't didn't even have sense enough to use the proper kind of ink.
- 3:34Yeah, it looks like he must have diluted it. Yeah. Have
- 3:37you ever seen such washed out looking money? And on your life? Good
- 3:40tough paper though, just like the realm card. Yeah it's real, Chris
- 3:44Banu, Johnny, look at those colors. Even the black isn't really Blacky,
- 3:49You think they'd at least have tried to wrinkle them up a bit and
- 3:51dirty them. Yeah. This is the most obviously flagrant. What are you
- 3:54looking at, Johnny? Oh this is unusual for counterfeit, that is what
- 4:00all. They've all been printed up with different cereal numbers see here and here.
- 4:08I about that pretty smart funny, isn't it. The thing that usually
- 4:11makes this stuff easy to spot is the same number on all the bills.
- 4:14Sure, whoever made these was clever enough to think of that, and sense
- 4:17enough to use good paper too, But he certainly slipped up and it came
- 4:21to the color and quality of the ink. As for the press word,
- 4:26well, I don't pretend to know much about phony money, George, who
- 4:29needs to Heavens knows, I don't see too many hundred dollar bills. But
- 4:32to me this engraving looks just about perfect. That's just what I'm saying,
- 4:36perfect plates, sense enough to change the numbers, good paper, Yet look
- 4:42at the result. Has he ever tried anything like this before? What the
- 4:46wrangle? Yeah, and just for the sake of the record, what is
- 4:48his real name? That's it? The Wrango, Laramie del hud Oh.
- 4:53I can't believe it. And the answer to your first question is no,
- 4:56the Wrango is as honest as the day is long. Well, maybe you
- 4:59mean he won? Well maybe, but if so, I want to know
- 5:01why. There'd have to be a mighty good reason. Believe me, running
- 5:04out of door is the best one I can think of. But he's always
- 5:08had plenty, after all, forty five hundred dollars to spend on insurance,
- 5:12year after years, just who is he and where is he? He lives
- 5:15on a ranch in Oklahoma. What kind of a ranch I don't know,
- 5:17but it must be awfully big. Where in Oklahoma the place called bum spun
- 5:24bum spun? Yeah. Oh, now, look, George, this whole
- 5:28thing is beginning to get a little too thick. Durrango bum spung laramie doll
- 5:32har right, whatever it is. Look, counterfeit money is for the secret
- 5:36service for So why don't you just put it up on all of them?
- 5:40No, and let them carry the ball? No? Why because of Durrango.
- 5:44I simply can't believe he deliberately hand over a lot of phony money.
- 5:46He's been paying on that policy for years, always in cash, always in
- 5:50cash. Crisp knew legitimate hundred dollars bills, not till now. Were you
- 5:56here when he left these? No tell it, Johnny. If somebody is
- 6:00trying to take him, it's up to us to protect him. Well,
- 6:00that's a big ift, George. From where I stand, Johnny, we've
- 6:03always tried to give more personal service to our clients than some of the other
- 6:08companies. Look, I want you to investigate this thing for us, without
- 6:12Durango's knowing of course, on a fee plus expense account. Basis all an
- 6:15extra fee. That's not you, you will, George with you, it
- 6:17is you know as well as I do. The padding that goes on your
- 6:20expense account is plenty fee for anybody. Oh, George, you cut me
- 6:24to the quick, all right? Where is Durang? Where is mister Dalhart
- 6:29now back in Bumspung, Oklahoma, or at least on the way. But
- 6:32I thought he just left this money this morning. Every year he follows the
- 6:35same pattern. It comes east through a fling, you know, New York
- 6:39and all the nightclubs and that sort of thing. Then just before leaving he
- 6:42drops in here makes his premium payment his gun. So, George, I
- 6:48still think you should have called in the secret service. But I'll take this
- 6:51on for just one reason. But then I want to find out what kind
- 6:56of a place could ever deserve the name of Bumspun. Since George had already
- 7:01arranged for plane travel as far as Enot, Oklahoma, Item two is a
- 7:05mere eight fifty five for incidentals along the way, I arrived and need it
- 7:11shortly after noon. Item three two sixty for lunch. I had him four
- 7:14to fifty dollars deposit on a rental car, and the owner of the Drive
- 7:17your Own agency wore a silly little smile as he gave me these directions to
- 7:20bum Spunk. Anyway, I had to do north on Highway eighty one across
- 7:26the Oklahoma flatland, some twenty six miles or so. Further on, after
- 7:30passing through Pond Creek and crossing the Salt Fork of the Arkansas River, I
- 7:32spotted a rather crude, weather beaten sign indicating that the place I was looking
- 7:36for was somewhere up a dirt road. To the left road, that's a
- 7:42laugh, and it twisted and turned for seemingly endless rough miles along the riverbank.
- 7:47I just about decided that bumb spun with a bump steer, when suddenly
- 7:51I almost ran into the gate of an old wooden fence surrounding some two or
- 7:57three acres of sandy ground. And there they were a huge ramshackle, unpainted
- 8:09building that passed for a house, and even more dilapidated, a fair propped
- 8:13up with timbers that probably served as a barn. There were a couple of
- 8:16broken down out buildings too, and on a small irrigated plot in the back,
- 8:22two cows steers well anyway, two r other sad looking bowvines, much
- 8:26on the faded grass. There was some decrepit looking chickens, a mangy old
- 8:31dog. There was a horse of sorts and a small corral. The windmill,
- 8:37its whole tower sagged with fatigue, and the rudder on it slapped ivy
- 8:41against the broken veins. Went right next to it, in complete contrast,
- 8:46stood a spanking new Cadillac convertible, and on the other side of the house,
- 8:50hanging some climsy pretties on a clothesline. She was maybe twenty three for
- 9:00a burnette, and wearing a pair of well tailored white writing breeches and a
- 9:03tight flowered silk blous. She was slim, and she was pretty, and
- 9:07had a couple of rosebuds tucked in her hair right and about as out of
- 9:13place as anything I ever saw. It was like seeing the vision of a
- 9:16gonnessan. Mm hmm, money, I'm going inside that post that you left
- 9:22what Durango called the gate. Oh yeah, Durango, did you say,
- 9:31don't tell me this is bums? Fuck here is and you see the time
- 9:35down the road, the vast acreage within this broken down fences, the cattle
- 9:39ranch of Durango. Laramie Dollhard, who happens to be my uncle. I'm
- 9:45Carol Dollhard. Who are you? Why my name is Johnny Dollar dollars.
- 9:52That seems to me I've heard that somewhere, but you do not hear just
- 9:56driving around, you know, vacation. You look like a city man.
- 10:01I uh, well, I was intriguedent that sign down the road, you
- 10:05know, curious about what bum spunk could mean bad water, bad spring,
- 10:09So the Indians called it bumspunk. Oh, Drango liked the name. So
- 10:13he brought up these two acres and settled here. And this is all there
- 10:18is to his ranch. What's the matter with it? He liked it?
- 10:22But I'd had an idea. Well, yeah, nothing from what you've told
- 10:28me, I think I'd like to meet Durrango. Is he around you trying
- 10:33to kids me or something? I haven't told you anything about him? Now,
- 10:39look Chinese dollar, Yeah hell look. Well suddenly she turned to an
- 10:43old cold forty five and as I duck, she let go with it.
- 10:46Holy she got him all right. A small snake that had poked up out
- 10:52of a hole in the ground some twenty five feet away and she got him
- 10:56right through the head with bull shots. Oh god, rattlesnake snakes. That
- 11:00looks to me like a poor old gopher snake. What's left? Gup?
- 11:03So what's the difference? Could have been a rattlesnake. Hey, you were
- 11:05plenty fast with that gun. I gotta be roll o. Angle. Wouldn't
- 11:09have me on the place. It's no use for anybody to hand me a
- 11:13couple of those clothes pins, will you. I gotta get these things hung
- 11:16up? Yeah? Sure, here you said you're his niece. That's right,
- 11:24only one left to take care of the old budget. You live here
- 11:26with him part of the time, well enough to look after him, make
- 11:31sure he don't get lonely there. He's got enough food in the house and
- 11:33that kind of thing. And I stick around when he goes out on the
- 11:37west coast or the back east for a flank. That's where he is now.
- 11:39Yeah, I mean to do that. Have me that slip out of
- 11:41the line to day. Sure? Hey, all right, I take it
- 11:45that convertible is yours. Huh Yeah, that was my birthday. Christ Oh,
- 11:48your family must be pretty well healed. Family, Durrangle, we're all
- 11:52this left. Give me the stockings now, sure, but certainly, Durgo,
- 11:58why not? He gives me a new one every year. And this
- 12:01ranch is all the on us except for his money. Says he has a
- 12:05barrel of it he must down or else or else? What? Uh?
- 12:11Nothing? Go on with what you were saying? More toasting. Yeah,
- 12:15And when he kicked off, I get it off and I can give up
- 12:18the filling station. Filling station, you must have passed it, just decide
- 12:22to eat it. Drango says, a woman's no good unless she's got a
- 12:26job. So I've got a feling station. Let somebody else run it for
- 12:30me, though, And Drango don't know the difference, or at least he
- 12:31don't care. The main thing is I'm around to keep him happy and give
- 12:37him somebody to cut that now, man and say, why am I shooting
- 12:41off my face to you this way? I don't know, but don't stop
- 12:46there. Then proths will be dry and iron. If you're still here,
- 12:50can help me take him down and cat carry that back for me, and
- 12:52I'll give you a cool drink. And great, you say, Drangos,
- 12:56do back here? Why don't save yourself time traveling by plane instead of train?
- 13:01I'll never Johnny. If you're just around here on vacation, I'll eat
- 13:07my shirt. Why'd you come here? And don't give me any guff?
- 13:13All right, come on, pull me that drink and I'll tell you now,
- 13:16I'll tell you you're here to pull something on. Oh God, don't
- 13:26easy now me. I bucked my micle. It's just a frame here,
- 13:30arm over my shoulder. Okay, thanks? Oh lord, I wanted to
- 13:33kill it. Go back there. Yeah, but I'll carry it head.
- 13:43That's better today. Oh you got muscles, you know? Ah? What's
- 13:54that? Well, take me over to the So what's the matter, Josh.
- 14:07What stopped me was the inside of the ramshackle little house, clean,
- 14:11modern, well furnished, even the kitchen with its gleaming porcelain and electric range
- 14:16hued. Your refrigerator and freezer modern in every ward. Don't just down there
- 14:20staring. Get some water hot and cold with this ankle. While you're at
- 14:24it. Pour us a drink at the bar over there in the corner.
- 14:26I could use a good stiff snort. I did what I could to reduce
- 14:39the swimming in her ankle, but by the time I'd taped it up,
- 14:43when she was snoozing comfortably on the sofa was getting dark, so I hide
- 14:46myself into the whal stock kitchen to see when I could scratch up to eat.
- 14:50And I'll be honest about it, with this mighty attractive patient on my
- 14:52hands, I'd completely forgotten about my mission in these parts, the investigation of
- 14:56one Durango Laramie Dalharts. I wasn't allowed to forget it long though. As
- 15:01I opened and was about to reach into the ample freezer, stop right there,
- 15:07you huh. I don't know one way to deal with a peephen steeleen
- 15:09goer reenviarment right, I put that thing down. I'm not furdering this way.
- 15:13Holy no, hey, no, you're ready Act two of yours,
- 15:31truly Johnny Dollar. In a moment a number of years ago, it was
- 15:35said that, in spite of the large population of this planet, men and
- 15:39women remain the most inaccessible things on it. Today we see this lack of
- 15:45understanding among peoples of the world reflected in headline stories. But it isn't because
- 15:50the people of the world are enemies. All people want to be friends.
- 15:54Long before the termination of World War Two, Reverend Eugene would the Methodist minister
- 16:00from oceside, California, went into a Scottsdale, Arizona camp where German prisoners
- 16:04of war were in turn, and offered his services to the imprisoned men.
- 16:10Among other things, Reverend Wood taught the men English, and he taught them
- 16:12about the United States of America. During the following years, after the men
- 16:18had been repatriated to their native Germany, nearly half of the internees corresponded frequently
- 16:22with Reverend Wood. Those men expressed a unique understanding of the people and the
- 16:29country of the United States of America. This great feeling of friendship and understanding
- 16:33prompted the minister to make a pilgrimage to Europe to seek out the men he
- 16:37had befriended in the prisoner of war camp in Arizona. This gesture on Reverend
- 16:42Wood's part gained him a fantastic welcome everywhere he went. In all the places
- 16:48he visited, he spread the gospel of love and friendship, and had it
- 16:52returned to him. There were no enemies, only men with the love of
- 16:56freedom, the right of all men everywhere, and now act two of yours,
- 17:03truly Johnny Dollar and the funny money matters robbing my house an around you
- 17:26while I'm trying to sleep. He heard it cares right this in here,
- 17:29you'll cut it up, cut it out about me too, forget me right?
- 17:38Holy? Okay, okay, yeah, and here's your gun. Keep
- 17:45it in your pocket where it belongs. Sure, now, what was the
- 17:51big idea whenever you bring one of these fancy boyfriends you were around to my
- 17:56house? They got a right to have a little fun with him? Eat
- 17:57it one? Is this your right? A fun? Crazy goll darn fun.
- 18:02Look what you did to the stove you bloated wood store would have held
- 18:06up. Yeah, buy yourself another one there, four five hundred, nice
- 18:14new dollar. Now what about that wind and the jars on the shelf?
- 18:18Yeah, okay, here, you gotta show him when I started throwing that
- 18:23lid all around there here, Johnny, let me wipe off some of that
- 18:27jam that fell on your head. Johnny, Johnny who Johnny Dollar? And
- 18:33I think it your drago Laramie doll hard Now sure am fast shot in the
- 18:37country too. When Paul learned then d Wranga Mama learned own Laramie, and
- 18:41I'm better than both of them. Was the only thing is you get no
- 18:45chance to show off, no more the wranger you crazy it is? What's
- 18:48the idea? No harm? May no harm? Yeah, take a drug
- 18:53of this, you forget all about it. I get a glass the man
- 18:57brings shot it up bottle go ahead, Johnny, Oh well, thanks,
- 19:02bad enough. A he man has to live around all this feminine fripsy and
- 19:06lace, curtains and rugs all over the floor. You know, dad blame
- 19:08well? You like the way I picked up this old dumpy years drangle?
- 19:11Yeah, I look you yeah, you know, dang well, a man
- 19:15get caired. You're sitting around no matter how party party it is. Why
- 19:19else do you suppose I've got to get away every now and then in San
- 19:22Francisco or New Yorker, coming in places where they got some noise and excitement.
- 19:26You get right, Johnny Dart, what's he doing here anyhow? Well?
- 19:37Well, uh, well to wrangle. I'll tell you why. Because
- 19:42he's just driving around on his vacation, and he happened to get to the
- 19:45end of the road and I made him come in. That's why you got
- 19:49an objection. I'll sell you this. You've got a lot more get up
- 19:53and gut than most of the boys you bring around here. The larap on
- 19:57the chiey kill me. Well, I'm sorry about that, all right?
- 20:02For what you didn't act like some of them lily livered kids she brings around.
- 20:06Run for home, very boy, you are all right? You're sure?
- 20:11What the sham hill you got on your foot? Well, it's high
- 20:15time you noticed. Well what happened to it? I like to a busted
- 20:18my ankle and I go for a hole. If it hadn't been for Johnny,
- 20:22I'd still be laying out in the yard howling with payin me. I've
- 20:26seen that happen. I thought you broke her away. I'm liable to cook
- 20:29her out and shot her. Johnny, boy, you're doing a real good
- 20:32job on my little ticket. Yeah, honey, I have to get back
- 20:36on the shoulder. Now that's Johnny. She's a lot jealous and I kind
- 20:44of like him. Hear that, Johnny, you better look out when the
- 20:48putty girl starts talking to you like that. Here's you're fixing to get laugh
- 20:52and throll. Well, I can think of a lot worse your angle.
- 20:53You just shut up and fix us up from little We're hungry, Yeah,
- 20:57sure you're no sooner get back he come woman, start giving the order.
- 21:03Oh, I don't need help. I'm feeling fine now. I just wanted
- 21:07to talk to you. Should have stayed on that so fun, missed all
- 21:12the fun fun you too beside me? Johnny? Well sure, why not?
- 21:22Ah now, none of that much stuff? That is what I meant.
- 21:27Oh, I can't see you. I mind it with you, Johnny.
- 21:32Well, now if that isn't an invitation, I get a nice date
- 21:34to cover with chops from every pants to dy up you all right? Just
- 21:38make it good and take your time? Or shall I do it if that
- 21:42woman I can cook better than you anytime? Well, Johnny, before you
- 21:51start, what the matter is, I'm right in there. You get it
- 21:52getting Just mind your own affairs. And I warn you, Johnny, you've
- 21:59been a white out. For your help, I'll risk it. D rangle.
- 22:04You don't want to light? Do you know where? Mm hmm wow,
- 22:12I don't know why you come out here to bumps bump can't Helene m
- 22:18hm No, make your god somewhere else and going very late for the time
- 22:23we went, or I might as well bump here tonight, not Toney your
- 22:26room? Leave me? Yeah? Sure, Rango, thanks thanks a lot.
- 22:36No, Carol, you haven't answered again tomorrow. I'll tell you tomorrow
- 22:41when we can beat them all. Let me alone now, Oh, not
- 22:49as much as I wish we were mighty cute guys. Yuddy, you don't
- 22:56know me, Carol. I'm really just an old wol. I don't read
- 23:00that. I don't know. It's one of the roses still out of my
- 23:07hair. With bunch of roses in her hair and kisses on her mouth.
- 23:17That's that. Just a wid an old boy. I have the ruses in
- 23:25my hair. What about the rest? Did you find out? Yeah?
- 23:33You didn't want to build out on the job. While you're waiting off.
- 23:37Who else you turned your cooking? Mm hmmm h at the angle, he
- 23:49certainly puts together a meal in a hurry. Too much of a hurry.
- 23:52The mean itself. I'm up for an army. And to see him packing
- 23:56away you think he'd been out of the range for years after heard nothing like
- 23:59coming home were an amplepite. Yeah, Coop, with help, lcome more
- 24:02beans, Johnny. I still hadn't made any progress in my investigation and encouraged
- 24:06him to talk about himself. He did willingly, and how much it was
- 24:10true with something else again said he left his found his little farm and conorrad
- 24:12out a hunt for goals, said he founded too a lot of it.
- 24:15Waded to use that money exploring for royal wildcatting and everything he touched and turned.
- 24:19The money that he'd made in banks so much he could never spend it
- 24:22all. That's why he'd go on those flings to San Francisco, New York,
- 24:26just to get rid of it, then come back here to this little
- 24:27plot of ground and rest up for the next excursion of the big city.
- 24:32His only regret was he was too old to make the New West like the
- 24:34Old West. Yes, Sir, I was twenty years younger. I'd write
- 24:37a heart into Dark Kitty and show all them raw and order. I'd show
- 24:41him just exactly how it was in the old age I read about in Them
- 24:45magazine. But if all this were true, why the counterfeit money? Those
- 24:49phony washed out one hundred dollars bills I'd seen on George Reid's desk. The
- 24:56bend in the guest room was as comfortable as my own, but I couldn't
- 25:00get to sleep. Fortunately, a long after the house was dark, it
- 25:03must have been close to midnight, I heard the door of Drango's room open.
- 25:07I heard him sneak out of the house the back way quickly, as
- 25:10quietly as I could. I slipped on trousers and shoes, took along my
- 25:12gun and went after him. From the back porch. I could see that
- 25:17there was a light on in one of the small out bildings. With my
- 25:25ear pressed tightly that the side of the little shack, I could hear it
- 25:26only too plainly, the printing press of which Durango was turning out the phony
- 25:33money, no question about it, and I was sorry, kind of began
- 25:37to light the old carry say nothing. It was beautiful, Carol. What
- 25:41are you doing, your kirs but to walk in the moonlight? To walk
- 25:45ride them? Jack, car Carol, listen, I'll lay my cards right
- 25:48on the table. What I really came to this place for was to find
- 25:51out who it was right here inside this little shack. And now that I've
- 25:56found out about Johnny, you'll break is heart. He thinks nobody knows about
- 25:59it. Oh, of course he does. He's been doing it ever since.
- 26:03And he thinks that even I don't know all. Oh Johnny, please,
- 26:06you'll spoil everyone. It's about time. Is that he means no harm
- 26:10to end what I mean, no harm? Are you kidding? Or maybe
- 26:12you're in this whole thing with him? Are you No? But I don't
- 26:17see what difference it would make. Johnny, Johnny bab all that stuff.
- 26:22It's time for a showdown, Helry. What's the racket? What's going on
- 26:25it? Oh slooper? Why you on me? Low down? Freaking kayo?
- 26:32All right? All right, d wrangle, just cut it and stand
- 26:33where you are? Well, what are you doing with that gun? I
- 26:37only hope you won't make it necessary for me to use this About that door,
- 26:41drango, I want to see what you've got inside there? Go ahead
- 26:45and now open it. Look n there ain't no harm in what I'm doing
- 26:51in there. No harm. That seems to be a pat phrase around here.
- 26:55It's just that, well everythings, I've made my pile everywhere i'd go,
- 27:00what spend a lot of money? So you told me a great length
- 27:03always if maybe it was sort of showing off a bit. But when I
- 27:06drought out of the bank, I'd make them give me brand new money,
- 27:10you know them crush the folks like a big shot up from Hertford where I
- 27:14pay my insurance for Carol here every year, and brand new hundred dollars bills
- 27:18supposedly, that's right, and no supposed but this last insurance payment to Georgia.
- 27:22Yeah, I know, but Johnny had worked my fault. The bank
- 27:26didn't have nice new ones for me, and they couldn't get him in time
- 27:29either, so I had to. Well this was the next bitch. Oh
- 27:34that's all, like Johnny, open that or yeah, going? I kept
- 27:38hoping nobody come on open it? Okay, heah, yeah? What under
- 27:48the that's the walking machine there, and that's the shop, and plenty of
- 27:53strong breach, and it starts to make them nice and Chris, oh no,
- 27:57and that there's iron and board where I press them out, reading nice
- 28:02and flat. They'll never believe it. Where it does make them look real
- 28:07pretty new, honest, Johnny, I didn't think it was no farming.
- 28:18Well there you have it, George, full report on the funny money.
- 28:22It turned out to be only cleaned up a bit. And the next time
- 28:26call in the secret Service with you. Oh no, I didn't mean that.
- 28:32Just don't question the charges on this account for the extra week I've spent
- 28:34out here. If you can see this pretty little Carrol, oh that Carol.
- 28:41And if I ever get enough money, so help me. I think
- 28:44I'll retire the bum spung Oklahoma expense account total including incidentals and the trip back
- 28:49to hartfred One. Yours truly, Johnny Dollar. Now here is our star
- 29:07to tell you about next week's story. Next week, We'll just remember one
- 29:11thing that old saying about a cat having nine lives and be sure to join
- 29:15us, won't you, Yours truly, Johnny Dollar. Yours truly, Johnny
- 29:29Dollar, is starring Bob Bailey. Originates in Hollywood. It is produced and
- 29:33directed by Jack Johnstone, who also wrote tonight's story. Heard in our cast
- 29:37were Virginia Gray Gee, Stanley Jones, and John mclintired. Be sure to
- 29:41join us next week, same time and station for another exciting story of Yours
- 29:45truly, Johnny Dollar. This is Dan cobberly speaking. This is the United
- 30:48States Armed Forces Radio and Television Service. Welcome back, well in the past
- 31:00I've and probably in the future too. I have some criticisms of some of
- 31:06Jack Johnstone's scripts, but this one was abute and a fantastic play. A
- 31:11simple story pulled off mainly by just three actors, with the vast majority of
- 31:18the story taking place in one location, and this is the type of script
- 31:22that Jack Johnstone does really well. If he tries to put some deep mystery
- 31:30in there usually doesn't work well. But if there's a lot of character and
- 31:34some quirkiness, he has a lot of had a lot of fun with it.
- 31:40And this is a great one for that, one of the really good,
- 31:45lighter Johnny Doller stories. And of course Virginia Greg. You know,
- 31:49I've talked about her throughout this series, and I think I'm going to continue
- 31:55to talk about her because she is able to do so much for a story,
- 32:00particularly when she's given a chance. If an episode that Virginia Greg appears
- 32:07in isn't extremely entertaining, it's usually because it's poorly written and or they didn't
- 32:14give Virginia Greg a very big part. There are certain episodes of Johnny Dollar
- 32:20in particular that really just let her go to town, and this is one
- 32:23that works. And she's just was just a fantastic actress, and this really
- 32:30makes this play with a lot of charm and creates this wonderful character and John
- 32:36McIntyre's perfect timing, and of course, just as a written scrap, it's
- 32:42nice to have a happy ending. All right. Well, on to some
- 32:45listener comments and feedback. Val, who thanks again for her support, says
- 32:52hi, Adam, I suddenly realize how long it's been since I contributed to
- 32:58Johnny's expense account. Little something to tie them over. Well, it's truly
- 33:01appreciated. Thanks so much, Val, and appreciate your support. Listeners can
