- 0:13Speaker 2: training camp Practice number fifteen is today Day fourteen. Yesterday,
- 0:17Speaker 2: Jackson Smith and Jegba fifty some yard TD catch outside
- 0:21Speaker 2: and past Devin Witherspoon on a perfect pass from Sam
- 0:24Speaker 2: darnoldd Anthony Bell out of pick six. The link to
- 0:26Speaker 2: the field off of Jalon Milroe, Jennari and Price. The
- 0:29Speaker 2: rookie running back first round pick missus third straight practice
- 0:32Speaker 2: doesn't look like he'll play Saturday in the first preseason
- 0:35Speaker 2: game against Dallas at Lumenfield five pm Saturday. Jake Bobo,
- 0:39Speaker 2: rookie third round pick Julian Neal, returned to practice yesterday
- 0:42Speaker 2: and position drills only. They didn't do any scrimmaging they'd
- 0:46Speaker 2: missed the last two weeks with leg injuries. Coach Mike
- 0:48Speaker 2: McDonald talked about the Seahawks interest in former Lions first
- 0:51Speaker 2: round pick Terry on Arnold, who was on a free
- 0:54Speaker 2: agent visit for the second time Sunday and not just
- 0:56Speaker 2: to visit. McDonald said, it was a tryout at the Seawork.
- 0:59Speaker 2: We're gonna talk a lot about that coming up The
- 1:02Speaker 2: Hard Knocks second episode to night, six pm on HBO.
- 1:05Speaker 2: For the Seahawks in the NFL this season, a head
- 1:08Speaker 2: coach may designate anyone from the team on his sideline
- 1:11Speaker 2: to officials before each game to throw the red challenge
- 1:14Speaker 2: flag for him on disputed calls. Well, I have to
- 1:18Speaker 2: ask Mike McDonald if he's gonna be the thrower of
- 1:20Speaker 2: the red flagger, he's gonna give it someone else.
- 1:22Speaker 3: It'd be kind of fun to see him do that,
- 1:26Speaker 3: don't you.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Think, Well, he's done it, he say, I know, But
- 1:31Speaker 4: I'd want to continue to see him do that.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I want him to do you want him to delegate that?
- 1:35Speaker 3: No, I don't. Maybe he could give it to Dirty.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I'd settle for that.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And that's not a communication piece. They probably won't get that.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Santa Clara running our Christian McCaffrey mis training camp practice
- 1:47Speaker 2: with quote tightness, the team said, our guy far and
- 1:50Speaker 2: Logi told us last week. But the twenty guys missing
- 1:52Speaker 2: from forty nine ers camp practice is already because of
- 1:55Speaker 2: injuries down there. The Mariners. Yes, Dan Wilson is still
- 1:59Speaker 2: their manager. There in New York to play the Yankees today.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Brian wu so bad on the row, so good at home,
- 2:04Speaker 2: starts on the road today in the Bronx, four or
- 2:06Speaker 2: five first pitch a's are now. The Mariners are now
- 2:10Speaker 2: a season low seven games under five hundred. Houston and
- 2:13Speaker 2: Texas both won last night, while the Mariners are off,
- 2:15Speaker 2: so the Ms are four and a half back in
- 2:16Speaker 2: the Al West beginning play today, forty three games left.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Diamondbackstar Corbyn Carroll Lakeside High School here in Seattle hit
- 2:24Speaker 2: his fifty six career triple last night Arizona's nine to
- 2:27Speaker 2: nothing went over Colorado. That's the most triples among all
- 2:30Speaker 2: active Major League Baseball players. He passed Mike Trout and
- 2:33Speaker 2: Sterling Marte, those who have played more than fifteen hundred
- 2:37Speaker 2: games each in the majors. Carrol last night played in
- 2:39Speaker 2: just a six hundred and fourth game. That's remarkable. He
- 2:43Speaker 2: passed less than half the games that Trout and Marte played.
- 2:47Speaker 2: He's got fifty six triples in his career. Hey, the
- 2:49Speaker 2: Storm won the Storm one. The eleven games go over
- 2:54Speaker 2: the long Storm Nightmare ends eleven game losing streak ends.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Last night at Climate Pledgerina. They beat Chicago ninety seven
- 3:01Speaker 2: eighty eight. The Storm have seven wins and twenty eight losses.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Good morning, Happy Tuesday from the Seahawks training camp but
- 3:08Speaker 2: the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Greg Bell of the News
- 3:11Speaker 2: Tribune is back here from day fifteen. Jessamin McIntyre after
- 3:15Speaker 2: her one day appearance, is back in Elliott Bay.
- 3:18Speaker 4: You know, I do like to make a splash and
- 3:20Speaker 4: then disappear.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You did just that very impactful visit, making the rounds
- 3:26Speaker 2: get done.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I like people you do.
- 3:29Speaker 2: You did. I need you out here again. Well back
- 3:32Speaker 2: here in solo.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I got some stuff that I have to do back here, the.
- 3:37Speaker 2: All important Jetsman McIntyre back in the studio was stuff
- 3:41Speaker 2: to do back there. I'm out for training camp today
- 3:44Speaker 2: for the fifteenth practice. We're almost halfway through training camp now,
- 3:49Speaker 2: but it ends pretty much essentially ends when the preseason
- 3:53Speaker 2: game started to go into a different mode then. But
- 3:56Speaker 2: August twenty fourth ish or so is when they break.
- 4:01Speaker 2: They've already the players that live here in the area
- 4:03Speaker 2: veterans have gone back to their homes. First couple of
- 4:06Speaker 2: weeks of training camp. They're in their hotel on the
- 4:09Speaker 2: East Side with all together. But now they're back in
- 4:12Speaker 2: their regular homes. So it's much less like training camp
- 4:16Speaker 2: than it used to be when they were in Cheney
- 4:18Speaker 2: and they were in the dorms. They're even in the
- 4:19Speaker 2: one year transitioning from Cheney back here to the new
- 4:22Speaker 2: facility in Kirkland at Northwest University up on the Hill.
- 4:26Speaker 2: They were in the dorms there, that Christian college on
- 4:28Speaker 2: the campus, and they were eating in the dining hall there,
- 4:31Speaker 2: and yeah, none of that anymore. It's oh yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 4: And just to clarify when you say they went to
- 4:37Speaker 4: their homes, it's not like they're going back to their hometown.
- 4:40Speaker 3: No, they just go back to their houses.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Those that live here, Yes, rental place. If they're new
- 4:45Speaker 2: to the team and yet to find a place, the
- 4:47Speaker 2: team will keep them in the team hotel, the training
- 4:49Speaker 2: camp hotel here on the east side of Seattle. But yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 2: for the veterans, the training camp part has changed once
- 4:56Speaker 2: they get to go back home and see their wives
- 4:58Speaker 2: and do their regular thing, and it's just different. The babies, yes,
- 5:04Speaker 2: there are a lot of babies on this team.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Yeah, because they they were young fathers. Yeah, very young team.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Mid twenties, late twenties exactly. And of course the thirty
- 5:14Speaker 2: year olds tend to have kids. So yeah, it's a
- 5:17Speaker 2: lot of kids and little kids running around here, babies
- 5:20Speaker 2: like two months old. Yeah. Fully Finley tells us about that.
- 5:24Speaker 2: You hear about that at eleven o'clock.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Oh my gosh, I can't wait for people
- 5:28Speaker 4: to learn more about this guy, Aj. He was phenomenally
- 5:34Speaker 4: good person.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, really good interview. How he's got a really good story.
- 5:39Speaker 2: You hood at eleven o'clock, the safety for the Seahawks.
- 5:41Speaker 2: AJ Finley was back off the twelve months eleven months
- 5:45Speaker 2: of recovery from his ACL tear this time last year
- 5:49Speaker 2: in the FanFest practice. But he told a great story
- 5:53Speaker 2: about how he met his wife in college.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Don't give it away. Don't give it away.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Everyone in college could have appreciate and relate to the
- 6:01Speaker 2: story of how AJ Finley met his wife at the
- 6:04Speaker 2: University of Mississippi. You'll hear that at eleven o'clock. We're
- 6:07Speaker 2: gonna talking a lot about this Terry on Arnold situation.
- 6:09Speaker 2: We thought it was just due diligence when they first said, well,
- 6:12Speaker 2: he's in for a visit. Oh now he's in for
- 6:14Speaker 2: a second visit. That was on Sunday, and then I
- 6:16Speaker 2: asked Mike McDonald yesterday about it. It's a tryout. They
- 6:20Speaker 2: put him on the field and did workouts. I mean,
- 6:23Speaker 2: this is a little more than just checking the blox
- 6:25Speaker 2: kicking the tires. We're gonna talk about this. The twenty
- 6:29Speaker 2: three year old former first round pick who's facing eight
- 6:32Speaker 2: fumiity charges in Florida, possible life in prison. He has
- 6:37Speaker 2: a hearing on Thursday, two days from today in Florida,
- 6:41Speaker 2: an arraignment that he's going to enter a plea or
- 6:43Speaker 2: scheduled to him. That's where he's at, and the Seahawks
- 6:47Speaker 2: are looking at him potentially signing him. There's a lot
- 6:50Speaker 2: to unpack with all that. We'll talk about bad the maritors.
- 6:53Speaker 2: They did not remove Dan Wilson's manager, as many of
- 6:55Speaker 2: you demanded they do. That's gonna be a tough ass
- 6:59Speaker 2: to move a legend of the franchise, someone that has
- 7:03Speaker 2: so many ends with the ownership group, the management group,
- 7:06Speaker 2: with Jerry Depoto hand picked for the job after they
- 7:09Speaker 2: fired Scott's service a few years ago. He's on the
- 7:13Speaker 2: job and it looks like he'll be on the job
- 7:14Speaker 2: for the rest of the season because hopefully for them,
- 7:17Speaker 2: they won't get any lower than they are now. There's
- 7:19Speaker 2: seven games under five hundred, but now no picnic in
- 7:22Speaker 2: the Bronx where they always have trouble most teams do
- 7:25Speaker 2: in that bandbox. The Yankees playing and that's three game
- 7:28Speaker 2: series starts tonight with Brian Wu and we can detail again.
- 7:32Speaker 2: If I don't think you want to hear it how
- 7:34Speaker 2: bad he is on the road, we'll do that.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I hope he gets over that hump today. That's what
- 7:38Speaker 4: I'll be rooting for.
- 7:40Speaker 2: He's really hard on himself after starts.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I mean, he's hard on himself after goods starts.
- 7:45Speaker 2: He is. Yeah, he wears his heart on his sleeve.
- 7:49Speaker 2: He's upset about him. It's pitching and team and all that.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Brian Wu gets another critical start tonight for the Mariners
- 7:57Speaker 2: who need one. They're four and a half games back
- 7:59Speaker 2: in the AO West after last night's action. I told
- 8:01Speaker 2: you here from AJ Finley, crowded safety and crowded defensive
- 8:05Speaker 2: back room. Mike McDonald, we're going to talk about this too.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Mentioned yesterday when talking about the defensive backs that he
- 8:11Speaker 2: may want to play defense differently. This year we'll talk
- 8:14Speaker 2: about that. It has to do with linebackers and defensive linemen,
- 8:18Speaker 2: perhaps at the expense of defensive backs. We'll detail that
- 8:22Speaker 2: at eleven thirty year textan talkbacks and at the Comoats
- 8:24Speaker 2: tax line four nine four or five to one before
- 8:27Speaker 2: Ian Furness joins me here, well, now he will be
- 8:30Speaker 2: back there with you, Jessamen.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yes, I get people here.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I don't as solitary closet here in the closet closet. Yes,
- 8:43Speaker 2: if you hear an echo, it's because it's just four
- 8:45Speaker 2: walls in me. But across the room in the media room,
- 8:48Speaker 2: they're in the stacks, are in meetings. You can hear
- 8:50Speaker 2: the music blaring already from team meeting in the morning
- 8:53Speaker 2: that they start and then they have a walk through
- 8:55Speaker 2: practice inside the facility. That is literally that just walking
- 8:58Speaker 2: through in T shirts the plan for the day, and
- 9:00Speaker 2: then the full practice this afternoon, fifteenth of the practice
- 9:06Speaker 2: to come adadtge tax line four nine four five one.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I am really curious now that you've learned more about
- 9:12Speaker 2: the Seahawks interest, and we'll talk about more, but I
- 9:14Speaker 2: am curious to hear from you on the text line
- 9:16Speaker 2: and the talkbacks about the Seahawks interest in a twenty
- 9:19Speaker 2: three year old cornerback facing eight phlony charges. And there
- 9:24Speaker 2: is of course the presumption of his innocence until proven guilty.
- 9:27Speaker 2: There is of course that he paid a million dollars
- 9:31Speaker 2: to be out on bond for the right to be
- 9:33Speaker 2: able to be free to go visit other teams with
- 9:36Speaker 2: the judges. Okay, but it's interesting, to say the least,
- 9:42Speaker 2: because it is counter to what Mike McDonald's already been
- 9:44Speaker 2: about justman. He's been about culture and within and to
- 9:47Speaker 2: bring someone from the outside that has many issues going on,
- 9:51Speaker 2: whether he's exonerated or not, he was in a situation
- 9:54Speaker 2: that got himself charged for this. Yeah, it's interesting, I
- 9:58Speaker 2: say the least.
- 9:59Speaker 3: I was going to ask you for the listeners.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Can you detail that whole situation because these can come
- 10:05Speaker 4: from many different angles, you know, just like what the
- 10:08Speaker 4: charges are.
- 10:09Speaker 3: I think it would help people form an opinion.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yes, I wrote a story of the News Tribune detailing
- 10:15Speaker 2: this and it's eight felony charges alleged incident in Tampa,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Florida in February. Terry On Arnold had six associates with
- 10:27Speaker 2: him that basically jumped three guys who they thought had
- 10:31Speaker 2: stolen a quarter million dollars worth of luxury items and cash,
- 10:35Speaker 2: one hundred thousand dollars in cash, another one hundred and
- 10:37Speaker 2: fifty thousand dollars in items from a rented home an
- 10:41Speaker 2: Airbnb in Tampa, Florida. And the prosecutors think that Terry
- 10:48Speaker 2: On Arnold and his buddy's got the wrong guys and
- 10:51Speaker 2: are not at all justified in doing what they did
- 10:54Speaker 2: to these guys. So what did they do well? He
- 10:56Speaker 2: was arrested in June. Prosecutors alleged that Arnold was quote
- 11:00Speaker 2: the primary conspirator who orchestrated an abduction and interrogation of
- 11:05Speaker 2: three men who he believes stole from that rented house
- 11:08Speaker 2: I talked about in a quarter million dollars in personal
- 11:11Speaker 2: property belonging to Arnold and his friends. Police alleged members
- 11:15Speaker 2: of Arnold's group ambushed the alleged victims at an apartment
- 11:19Speaker 2: and spent an hour beating him at gunpoint. One of
- 11:22Speaker 2: the defendants allegedly live allegedly live streamed the proceedings to
- 11:27Speaker 2: Arnold while he was on his way to that apartment. Now,
- 11:31Speaker 2: last month, Denise White, a representative of Terry On Arnold
- 11:36Speaker 2: released a statement saying, quote terryon Arnold categorically denies any
- 11:40Speaker 2: involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him
- 11:43Speaker 2: and maintains his innocence. A court in Tampa allowed him
- 11:48Speaker 2: free on one million dollars bond. He scheduled for an
- 11:50Speaker 2: arrangement hearing Thursday in Tampa. He's scheduled to enter a
- 11:54Speaker 2: former plea and the formal plea is most likely going
- 11:56Speaker 2: to be not guilty, so he can remain free and
- 12:00Speaker 2: pending the next moves. I asked Mike McDonald yesday. You'll
- 12:04Speaker 2: hear in the next segment from McDonald, But I did ask
- 12:07Speaker 2: him whether the Seahawks believe the jurisprudence here if it
- 12:11Speaker 2: goes his way, Arnold's way, that he would be available
- 12:14Speaker 2: for the entire season, and the Seahorks are still figuring
- 12:17Speaker 2: that out as well. The Seahawks have a history of
- 12:21Speaker 2: some of this. Pete Carroll, we talked about this yesterday.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Pete Carroll always thought he could be a reclamation project
- 12:27Speaker 2: master and through force of personality and positivity and optimism
- 12:32Speaker 2: could change anybody. He brought in people that had histories
- 12:35Speaker 2: with DUIs, and with domestic violence and with drug abuse,
- 12:40Speaker 2: and with failed first round picks from other city. They
- 12:43Speaker 2: were going on a first round bench for a while.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Dion Jordan comes to mind, and others that failed with
- 12:48Speaker 2: other teams. The Frank Clark situation was of course, very
- 12:53Speaker 2: widely reported on. It was after the general.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Man just like they got caught by surprise on that one.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Well, I don't know that, because they knew that he
- 13:01Speaker 2: was kicked out of the Michigan program.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Right, but the reaction afterwards when it was brought up,
- 13:07Speaker 4: it seemed like they got caught by surprise.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I agree with that. In some of this, Some of
- 13:13Speaker 2: the uproar was that months earlier the previous year, John Schneider,
- 13:16Speaker 2: in early in his tenure here in Seattle, said that
- 13:20Speaker 2: he would not ever draft or sign a player who
- 13:23Speaker 2: had a domestic violence history, and then they draft in
- 13:26Speaker 2: the second round of pass rusher with supreme athletic skills
- 13:30Speaker 2: Frank Clark, who had been kicked out of the Michigan
- 13:32Speaker 2: program after he was arrested, charged and the jurisprudence went
- 13:36Speaker 2: through in Sandusky, Ohio for an alleged domestic violence incident
- 13:40Speaker 2: in a hotel room at a water park with a girlfriend.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Michigan kicked him off the team. The Seahawks drafted him.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I know from covering the NFL back then that many
- 13:51Speaker 2: teams had him off of their draft board. We're not
- 13:53Speaker 2: going to draft him. The Seahawks did, and to the
- 13:56Speaker 2: Seahawks and Frank Clark's credit, that worked out splendidly for them.
- 14:00Speaker 2: He was a Super Bowl champion. He was a great
- 14:04Speaker 2: force for them. He became a locker room leader, he
- 14:07Speaker 2: became a father. He was a young guy who made
- 14:10Speaker 2: an absolutely horrid, terrible, reprehensible choice, who got a second chance.
- 14:18Speaker 2: They traded for Quinton Dunbar from the Washington then Redskins,
- 14:23Speaker 2: who had were pending was pending charges for a case
- 14:26Speaker 2: in Broward County, Florida. And I remember after they traded
- 14:31Speaker 2: for Dunbar that I was spending more time with the
- 14:33Speaker 2: Prosecutor's office talking to prosecuting Browd County than I was
- 14:36Speaker 2: uncovering him as a football player. That did not work
- 14:39Speaker 2: out well, and he didn't play very well nor very
- 14:43Speaker 2: long for the Seahawks and got in more trouble when
- 14:46Speaker 2: after he got here. So Josh Schneider's been down this
- 14:49Speaker 2: road before, and he absolutely wants to be in on everything.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And my read on this with Arnold is he and
- 14:58Speaker 2: he wants the Seahawks in the front of the line
- 15:00Speaker 2: if and when Arnold is exonerated. They just don't know
- 15:04Speaker 2: if that's gonna happen. Nobody in the league does, but
- 15:07Speaker 2: rather waiting until after that might happen, and then the
- 15:11Speaker 2: frenzy that would happen that a twenty three year old
- 15:13Speaker 2: first round pick and starter in the league is now
- 15:15Speaker 2: suddenly available as a free agent at probably low, maybe
- 15:20Speaker 2: veteran minimum salary, instead of waiting for him to be
- 15:23Speaker 2: exonerating and then the whole league jumping on him. The
- 15:26Speaker 2: Seahawks are trying to get to the front of the line,
- 15:28Speaker 2: and that's why they've had him visit twice. That's why
- 15:31Speaker 2: they had a trial. That's my read on this. In
- 15:33Speaker 2: the meantime, if you take Mike McDonald at face value
- 15:37Speaker 2: in his comments when I asked him yesterday about this,
- 15:40Speaker 2: the Seahawks are still trying to figure this out. They're
- 15:43Speaker 2: trying to figure out where it's going. What happened. You'll
- 15:47Speaker 2: hear Mike McDonald talk about the Seahawks leaders have talked
- 15:51Speaker 2: to many people whom they trust, who are vouching for
- 15:55Speaker 2: and in the corner of Terry On honor, one of
- 15:57Speaker 2: them is a defensive backs coach for the Seahawks. Carlson
- 16:00Speaker 2: Scott recruited him. Carl Scott recruits, That's right, Jessan. In
- 16:04Speaker 2: twenty nineteen and twenty, Carl Scott went into Terry On
- 16:07Speaker 2: Arnold's living room in Tallahassee, Florida and recruited him to
- 16:10Speaker 2: Alabama when he was the Alabama defensive backs coach. He'd
- 16:14Speaker 2: ever coached Arnold at Alabama because in twenty twenty, after
- 16:17Speaker 2: twenty twenty season, Carl Scott went to be the defensive
- 16:21Speaker 2: backs coach in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings, and
- 16:24Speaker 2: he went from there to the Seahawks, where he's been.
- 16:26Speaker 2: He was the only holdover of the Pete Carroll staff
- 16:29Speaker 2: whom Mike McDonald kept on his staff. But McDonald mentioned
- 16:33Speaker 2: Carl Scott yesterday and talking about the people that they
- 16:36Speaker 2: have talked to about Terry On Arnold. So they are
- 16:40Speaker 2: doing what Mike McDonald, the head coach, called due diligence here,
- 16:43Speaker 2: which you could expect them to say. But the bottom
- 16:47Speaker 2: line is football wins.
- 16:48Speaker 4: We we used that word so many times before he
- 16:51Speaker 4: said it.
- 16:52Speaker 2: That's right.
- 16:53Speaker 3: I would just give us like we broke that due diligence.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Well, but yes, it's so predictable that that's what they
- 16:58Speaker 2: would say. Oh yes, and football wins. When there's a
- 17:03Speaker 2: six to three corner, there's a first round pick at
- 17:05Speaker 2: a position of premium value, and the Seahawks have a
- 17:09Speaker 2: possibility if they do sign if Arnold's exonerated. A lot
- 17:13Speaker 2: of ifs here, and if the Seahawks do sign him,
- 17:16Speaker 2: the Seahawks could have two first round picks at age
- 17:18Speaker 2: twenty three and twenty five starting a cornerback in their secondary.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Arnold's twenty three Devin Witherspoon about to be minted is
- 17:26Speaker 2: perhaps the highest paid cornerback in the league.
- 17:28Speaker 5: Is twenty five.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Two first round picks on both sides of your cornerbacks
- 17:33Speaker 2: on the opposite sides of the field. That's what the
- 17:35Speaker 2: Seahawks are thinking about. So if and when he's exonerated,
- 17:38Speaker 2: they want to be at the front of the line
- 17:39Speaker 2: for that. As I mentioned, it probably won't take much.
- 17:42Speaker 2: It'll take a million million three contract for maybe one year,
- 17:45Speaker 2: a prove it type deal that Arnold stays out of
- 17:48Speaker 2: trouble and then you go from there. If you're the Seahawks,
- 17:53Speaker 2: that's what they're thinking football wise, and football ultimately always wins.
- 17:56Speaker 2: The Frank Clark situation at Dunbar situation is tearing on
- 18:00Speaker 2: Arnold's situation. Yes, it's a counter to what Mike McDonald
- 18:04Speaker 2: has been and been about, but this is football winning
- 18:08Speaker 2: and their job is to win games. I'd be interested
- 18:11Speaker 2: how you feel about this. Four nine four five one.
- 18:14Speaker 2: There are some teams, such as the one Arnold used
- 18:16Speaker 2: to play for and got drafted by, who's had no
- 18:19Speaker 2: tolerance for this. They cut him on the spot as
- 18:22Speaker 2: soon as he got arrested, before the jurisprudence, before the
- 18:25Speaker 2: legal system took its course, before the plea for before anything.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Dan Campbell and the Lions cut him, and they know
- 18:32Speaker 2: him better than anybody in the NFL. So there are
- 18:35Speaker 2: some that have black and white on this. And then
- 18:37Speaker 2: there are shades, as we know of gray in life,
- 18:40Speaker 2: and it seems like the Seahawks are right now in
- 18:42Speaker 2: that shade of gray.
- 18:46Speaker 5: Four.
- 18:47Speaker 2: We'll read back your text at eleven.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Think about this please, because I'm so lonely back here.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Send in those talkbacks, will play.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I think Jessmon's already proven she will play any and
- 18:57Speaker 2: all talkbacks. I mean it doesn't matter.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Well, I I don't play the bad ones.
- 19:02Speaker 2: You played that guy singing to himself one day because
- 19:04Speaker 2: it's funny.
- 19:06Speaker 3: We like the funny ones too.
- 19:09Speaker 4: We do like the creativity of our listeners.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Next, you'll hear from Mike McDonald about when I asked
- 19:16Speaker 2: him his interest in Terry on Arnold, how he could
- 19:18Speaker 2: describe this interest. He was much more expensive than I
- 19:21Speaker 2: thought he'd be. I thought he'd give me one sentence
- 19:23Speaker 2: and move on. He was not that. He answered about
- 19:25Speaker 2: four or five questions on it. You'll hear from him. Next,
- 19:28Speaker 2: at eleven o'clock you'll hear from aj Finley the really
- 19:31Speaker 2: cool story of his training camp right now, of his
- 19:33Speaker 2: return back from reconstructive knee surgery and having a two
- 19:36Speaker 2: month old baby girl, how he met his wife. That's
- 19:40Speaker 2: coming up at eleven on ninety three point three KJRFM, Hi,
- 19:56Speaker 2: welcome back. Next to listening the show, Greg Bell, Jessin
- 19:59Speaker 2: mcintarre with his here every weekday ten am the noon
- 20:01Speaker 2: on ninety three point three kJ FM. In these days
- 20:04Speaker 2: were at the Seahawks Virginia Mason Athletic Center and renting
- 20:07Speaker 2: for Seahawks training camp, where yesterday I asked coach Mike
- 20:12Speaker 2: McDonald after practice about the Seahawks reported interest in Terry
- 20:16Speaker 2: On Arnold. It had been reported on Sunday that he
- 20:18Speaker 2: was in for a second free agent visit at team
- 20:21Speaker 2: headquarters here in Renton. Detroit cut its starting quarterback this
- 20:27Speaker 2: summer before he posted one million dollars in bond while
- 20:30Speaker 2: charged for eight felonies in Florida for alleged kidnapping and robbery.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Prosecutors in Tampa alleged Arnold orchestrated the abduction and beating
- 20:38Speaker 2: of three men at gunpoint, whom prosecutors say Arnold wrongly
- 20:42Speaker 2: accused of stealing a quarter million dollars in cash and
- 20:45Speaker 2: luxury items from him out of a rented house in Florida.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Arnold is reportedly also visiting the New Orleans Saints this week.
- 20:53Speaker 2: His agent testified in a court hearing last month that
- 20:56Speaker 2: the New York Jets and the Houston Texans are also
- 20:58Speaker 2: interested on top of the Seahawks in the Saints with
- 21:02Speaker 2: that was the background for me asking during yesterday's press
- 21:04Speaker 2: conference to Mike McDonald, what is the Seahawks level of
- 21:07Speaker 2: interest in possibly signing Arnold.
- 21:10Speaker 6: Well, it's enough right now. We had him in for
- 21:12Speaker 6: a great visit, a great tryout. It's you know, it's
- 21:15Speaker 6: a situation where there's there's some there's other things that
- 21:19Speaker 6: are surrounding it as well. We're aware of that, but uh,
- 21:22Speaker 6: we're we're working through the situation right now.
- 21:24Speaker 7: You know, there's but uh, there's a great visit.
- 21:28Speaker 6: I really I really enjoyed medium and I think I
- 21:31Speaker 6: think he enjoyed being here.
- 21:32Speaker 7: So we'll see where it goes a little.
- 21:34Speaker 8: Evaluate situations like that where there's obvious deal stuff going
- 21:37Speaker 8: on and got a.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Culture you worked really hard to build and make sure
- 21:41Speaker 2: you can take that.
- 21:42Speaker 7: Well, we're gonna do our due diligence.
- 21:44Speaker 6: And there's a lot of people in Tarryon's corner that
- 21:48Speaker 6: that we respect.
- 21:49Speaker 7: On in terms of the type of guy is.
- 21:51Speaker 6: So we're gonna work through all that and I think
- 21:54Speaker 6: we I trust our people to make the best decision
- 21:56Speaker 6: for us. And we also think this is a great
- 22:00Speaker 6: place to come work too, and that people can be
- 22:03Speaker 6: the best person themselves if given the opportunity.
- 22:05Speaker 7: So kind of works both ways.
- 22:07Speaker 2: How much of a voice does Carls Scott have in
- 22:09Speaker 2: that since he was in Alabama.
- 22:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, Carls.
- 22:11Speaker 6: Carl is an example of Carl recruited him to my
- 22:15Speaker 6: to my knowledge, but didn't coach him.
- 22:16Speaker 7: So you know how much of how big it's not.
- 22:19Speaker 6: It's not as big of a relationship as you might
- 22:21Speaker 6: as you might expect, but he's definitely a person that
- 22:23Speaker 6: we would talk to. You know, anybody has a relationship
- 22:26Speaker 6: with anybody that we're going to bring in, we're gonna
- 22:29Speaker 6: seek that council.
- 22:29Speaker 7: So this is an example of that.
- 22:31Speaker 2: How you feel about the kind of the backup quarterback
- 22:33Speaker 2: or you know, find I Get and Joss or the
- 22:35Speaker 2: rest of the quarterbacks there.
- 22:37Speaker 6: I have a ton of confidence in our in our
- 22:39Speaker 6: defensive backfield room. You know, it's like this is a
- 22:42Speaker 6: situation of we're kind of in everything all the time,
- 22:47Speaker 6: and so we're always trying to make our team the
- 22:51Speaker 6: best we can possibly make it. And whether or not
- 22:53Speaker 6: tear On ends up here or not, or if it
- 22:55Speaker 6: works out or it doesn't, then we'll just we'll keep
- 22:58Speaker 6: on rolling the way we know.
- 22:59Speaker 2: How You've got to I'm sorry with that number three
- 23:02Speaker 2: spot right now away? What do you see in between
- 23:04Speaker 2: the team?
- 23:04Speaker 6: Id yeah, there's there's great competition right now. I like
- 23:10Speaker 6: to just to narrow it down to like, hey, it's
- 23:12Speaker 6: the third corner spot. I think that's a look probably
- 23:15Speaker 6: a little bit narrow Like it's it's a how we
- 23:18Speaker 6: want to allocate all of our people. It's like whoever
- 23:20Speaker 6: wins the job, It's not like they're just gonna they're
- 23:22Speaker 6: the ones getting all those snaps. It's how we want
- 23:26Speaker 6: to deploy how many DB's at a given time. We
- 23:28Speaker 6: want to be able to play more you know, three
- 23:30Speaker 6: linebacker sets. Do we want to play more five down sets?
- 23:33Speaker 6: It's it's kind of everybody right now. So it's you know,
- 23:37Speaker 6: the the front guys are are battling for a say
- 23:40Speaker 6: to say, hey, look we need to be on the
- 23:42Speaker 6: field more. That trickles into the linebacker room, which affects
- 23:45Speaker 6: the dB room and vice versa. So that's kind of
- 23:47Speaker 6: where we're at right now. But those both those two
- 23:50Speaker 6: guys you mentioned are having really good camps and they're
- 23:52Speaker 6: definitely putting their best foot forward.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Team understand that he could play in entire seasons and
- 23:58Speaker 2: the availability wise, it's not a gift it all.
- 24:02Speaker 7: I think I think we understand that, like.
- 24:05Speaker 6: Anything's kind of on the table, and that's that's where
- 24:08Speaker 6: we're at in the process, all right, So they're about
- 24:11Speaker 6: the third corner, right, how much for you is if
- 24:13Speaker 6: the players dictating who gets on the guild.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Versus here's out.
- 24:19Speaker 6: Well, when that's aligne, that's really cool. It makes it
- 24:23Speaker 6: our job a little bit easier. When it's not one
- 24:25Speaker 6: way or the other, then that's when you got to
- 24:27Speaker 6: move and shift and and shake. And but that's that's
- 24:31Speaker 6: why we're the coaches, you know. That's those are artist
- 24:33Speaker 6: those are those are some tough decisions that we're gonna
- 24:35Speaker 6: that we have to make sometimes and uh and then
- 24:37Speaker 6: once you're bought in, you gotta just everything and power
- 24:40Speaker 6: to make it come to life.
- 24:40Speaker 7: So it's kind of kind of both.
- 24:43Speaker 1: So you see the safety competition playing into that since
- 24:46Speaker 1: you get guys.
- 24:46Speaker 7: Yeah, but that's what I'm saying, it's all it's all connected,
- 24:49Speaker 7: you know.
- 24:49Speaker 6: So you know this week, I think giving guys some
- 24:53Speaker 6: opportunities and some spots they might not have had up
- 24:56Speaker 6: to this point is part of that process. And you know,
- 24:59Speaker 6: getting you know, getting getting Joe bl looks at positions
- 25:02Speaker 6: he might not have be at, and given Spoon looks
- 25:04Speaker 6: where you know, he hasn't had a ton of reps
- 25:06Speaker 6: where we feel like, hey, you know, we need to
- 25:08Speaker 6: round out your game this way to get get you
- 25:09Speaker 6: the exposure in case you're in these situations.
- 25:12Speaker 7: That's that's kind of where we're at right now in camp.
- 25:13Speaker 7: It looks like on his way back and yeah, yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 7: he's on his way back. Yeah, he's on his way back,
- 25:18Speaker 7: which is exciting.
- 25:19Speaker 6: We got a few guys that are kind of entering
- 25:21Speaker 6: the ramp back into practice mode, which is nice.
- 25:27Speaker 2: That was Mike McDonald yesterday. He said a couple of
- 25:29Speaker 2: interesting things and details in there. You heard him say,
- 25:32Speaker 2: we're in on everything. How many times have we hurt
- 25:34Speaker 2: that from the Seahawk regime, I mean nder took over.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Yes, it's been their thing.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Yes, they say that all the time, and it was
- 25:43Speaker 2: predictable they would say that About Terry on Austin, he
- 25:47Speaker 2: mentioned he wants to play five and six Well, first
- 25:50Speaker 2: of all, he wants to play him with three linebackers
- 25:52Speaker 2: and even five defensive linemen more this season. He said
- 25:56Speaker 2: last season they were five and six dbs more than
- 25:58Speaker 2: two thirds of the time defensive necks. They'd led the
- 26:01Speaker 2: league in sub packages and playing nickel and dime, but
- 26:04Speaker 2: that comes, of course at the expensive a linebacker, usually
- 26:07Speaker 2: a linebacker or defensive lineman. Most times they had nick
- 26:11Speaker 2: emn Worry as a hybrid linebacker, but only two true
- 26:13Speaker 2: linebackers on the field Drake Thomas outside of Ernest Jones,
- 26:17Speaker 2: and many times when they went dime, it was only
- 26:19Speaker 2: Ernest Jones as a true linebacker the off ball linebacker,
- 26:24Speaker 2: and Nicki mon Worey would slide down and play next
- 26:26Speaker 2: to him and basically as a sam linebacker. Well, if
- 26:29Speaker 2: McDonald's true to his word that he wants to play
- 26:31Speaker 2: more three linebackers or sometimes five defensive linemen, that has
- 26:36Speaker 2: to come at the expense of someone out of the
- 26:37Speaker 2: secondary right to only play at eleven at one time.
- 26:40Speaker 2: So that means fewer of the sub packages and the
- 26:44Speaker 2: nickel and dimes that they led the league in doing
- 26:46Speaker 2: last year. What is all this about. They just led
- 26:50Speaker 2: the league in allowing points last year, the fewest points allowed.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Why is he changing? Well, we've talked about this. The
- 26:57Speaker 2: entire league is studying the Seahawks defense. That's what this
- 26:59Speaker 2: league is.
- 27:00Speaker 3: They won on defense.
- 27:02Speaker 2: They won the Super Bowl, and every year the team
- 27:04Speaker 2: that wins the Super Bowl, gets studied and studied and
- 27:07Speaker 2: studied in the offseason, and teams either copy them if
- 27:10Speaker 2: they're on defense, or the offenses try to run something
- 27:13Speaker 2: that's especially inside the division come up with things to
- 27:17Speaker 2: counter what Mike McDonald did on defense last year. So
- 27:20Speaker 2: it's of course Pruden and doing his job that Mike
- 27:22Speaker 2: McDonald has a counter to that counter. And we have
- 27:25Speaker 2: seen this training camp different defensive fronts. We've seen different
- 27:30Speaker 2: guys in different places than defensive fronts. We've seen more
- 27:33Speaker 2: use of three linebackers. We've seen things that would take
- 27:37Speaker 2: a defensive back off the field. Now, is some of
- 27:41Speaker 2: this counter to a counter or is some of this
- 27:44Speaker 2: because of the personnel the Seahawks loss. They lost Rik Wollan,
- 27:47Speaker 2: whom they had trusted as a four year starter, and
- 27:50Speaker 2: he went to Philadelphia a twelve million dollars one year contract.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Niamia Pritchett began this training camp as basically Riek Wollan's replacement.
- 27:58Speaker 2: He was the third corner and when they went Nickel,
- 28:01Speaker 2: he played outside and Witherspoon's inside. That's how training camp began.
- 28:05Speaker 2: In the past week. Noah Igbinogany, who we talked about
- 28:09Speaker 2: last week we interviewed here on the show, the eighth
- 28:11Speaker 2: year veteran who was the Dan Quinn made a starting
- 28:15Speaker 2: nickel at Washington a couple of years ago, first time
- 28:17Speaker 2: he ever played nickel in his life. He told us, well,
- 28:20Speaker 2: he's been playing first team nickel this week in lieu
- 28:22Speaker 2: of Nemiah Pritchett. You heard McDonald say we're gonna put
- 28:26Speaker 2: Josh jobenspots in Witherspoon spots this week, that they aren't
- 28:29Speaker 2: used to play it. That to me says Job's gonna
- 28:32Speaker 2: play some corner this week in practices, and Witherspoon's going
- 28:34Speaker 2: to stay outside, will Job's inside and perhaps like Benogaby,
- 28:38Speaker 2: he will be on the right side, or maybe they'll
- 28:40Speaker 2: bring Pritchett back in, who played on the second team
- 28:42Speaker 2: mostly yesterday when he was at outside corner. Suffice to say,
- 28:47Speaker 2: if they were satisfied and neemia Pritchett, who was only
- 28:49Speaker 2: made one start one in his NFL career so far,
- 28:52Speaker 2: he's a third year pro they drafted out of Auburn
- 28:54Speaker 2: in the fifth round in twenty twenty four. If they
- 28:57Speaker 2: were happy with that and content they wouldn't be chasing
- 29:00Speaker 2: Terry on Arnold through jurisprudence in Florida. So the fact
- 29:04Speaker 2: that they are interested keenly the only team reported to
- 29:08Speaker 2: have Terry on Arnold in twice, including for a trout
- 29:11Speaker 2: and workout on the field, strongly suggest they aren't satisfied
- 29:16Speaker 2: with their third cornerback situation and whatever, despite what you
- 29:19Speaker 2: just heard Mike McDonald say. But all of this could
- 29:23Speaker 2: be the bottom line is that this is how Mike
- 29:26Speaker 2: McDonald's defense may be different this year, the counter to
- 29:30Speaker 2: Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan's counter to the Seahawks. Maybe
- 29:33Speaker 2: just this, Okay, it's just like last year when McVeigh
- 29:36Speaker 2: was doing three tight ends quite a bit. Then the
- 29:40Speaker 2: Seahawks and many other opponents adjusted to that defensively, and
- 29:44Speaker 2: then McVeigh adjusted with few or three tight end sets
- 29:47Speaker 2: by the end of the year. I was talking to
- 29:48Speaker 2: Nick Venette about this in training camp. Vannette spent the
- 29:51Speaker 2: end of last season with the Rams. Anyway, that's the
- 29:55Speaker 2: chess match. That's why these coaches make so much money.
- 29:58Speaker 2: That's why the Seahawks got Mike mac donald from the
- 30:00Speaker 2: Baltimore Ravens. The defensive whiz to be a first time
- 30:03Speaker 2: head coach is to come up with defensive schemes and
- 30:06Speaker 2: answers within their own division, and some of this counter
- 30:10Speaker 2: to the counter could be five defensive linemen. It could
- 30:14Speaker 2: be Byron Murphy as a defensive end. It could be
- 30:18Speaker 2: Drake Thomas and Ernest Jones and Nick Emon Worry as linebackers,
- 30:23Speaker 2: or if Emon Worry remains out from his ankle surgery,
- 30:28Speaker 2: maybe it means Tyree Knight has more of a role.
- 30:31Speaker 2: He's had some role in the starting defense more than
- 30:33Speaker 2: he did most of last season when Drake Thomas took
- 30:36Speaker 2: his job. That's all the multiplicity that's going on on
- 30:39Speaker 2: the defense right now, and that to me is related.
- 30:43Speaker 2: And you heard Mark McDonald say related to the search
- 30:46Speaker 2: from Terry on Arnold. Does that make sense? I mean
- 30:48Speaker 2: that is a long winded answer to what's going on here.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's an intricate situation, so you actually do
- 30:55Speaker 4: need to be long winded in it.
- 30:57Speaker 2: And he in the clip you heard from McDonald, he
- 31:00Speaker 2: said a lot in there that I'm trying to discern.
- 31:02Speaker 2: He talks about how the safeties and the crowded safety job.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Aj Finley is a part of that. You're gonna hear
- 31:07Speaker 2: fro him at eleven o'clock. How that relates to the corners?
- 31:10Speaker 2: Do they play three safeties? I mean Witherspoon, I mean
- 31:15Speaker 2: excuse me. Emon Worry is technically a safety that plays
- 31:18Speaker 2: a hybrid linebacker in most situations. But does this mean
- 31:21Speaker 2: that Nick Emon Worey could be the deep safety with
- 31:23Speaker 2: Julian Love in place at Tyo Kata? Does this mean
- 31:26Speaker 2: that Tyo Katta and Nick Emn Warrior on the field
- 31:29Speaker 2: at the same time with five defensive backs in a
- 31:33Speaker 2: third corner essentially dime? But keep Witherspoon or keep even
- 31:37Speaker 2: Worry back because the whole league expects Emon Worry to
- 31:41Speaker 2: be off the edge now they expect them to be
- 31:43Speaker 2: an edge linebacker or four to three sam when they
- 31:45Speaker 2: go nickel or dime. So McVeigh and Shanahan are crafting
- 31:50Speaker 2: plays to counteract that. McDonald's answer could be, Okay, I'm
- 31:54Speaker 2: not gonna put even Worry on the line. I'm gonna
- 31:56Speaker 2: keep him in the back and have it more of
- 31:58Speaker 2: a past defender in three safeties, and maybe my nickel
- 32:02Speaker 2: is three safeties and two corners. If I don't truch
- 32:04Speaker 2: in the am I a Pritchett or no Igbinoghaty. If
- 32:07Speaker 2: they do sign Terry On Arnold, now you've got what
- 32:11Speaker 2: they think are three starters, because Job would be in
- 32:13Speaker 2: the same situation he was last year when Wolan was here.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Witherspoon Arnold Job and then you run your three corners
- 32:20Speaker 2: as your nickel package, and what are you gonna do
- 32:22Speaker 2: with even worry Well, perhaps you keep him back in
- 32:25Speaker 2: that situation instead of Tayo Kata with Julian Low. Those
- 32:28Speaker 2: are all the things, some of them I'm seeing so
- 32:30Speaker 2: far in practices, But those are all the things that's
- 32:32Speaker 2: on the table. As you hear Mike McDonald talk about
- 32:35Speaker 2: how he might array his defense, that's a little bit
- 32:38Speaker 2: into house sausage is made in the soup and nut
- 32:41Speaker 2: stuff of defensive game planning. McDonald's point this week is
- 32:46Speaker 2: this is we're at the point of training camp where
- 32:47Speaker 2: we're just gonna start experimenting with that stuff. A couple
- 32:51Speaker 2: weeks in the camp. Now, the base concepts and based
- 32:54Speaker 2: game plans for defense are already in. Most of it
- 32:57Speaker 2: is from last year anyway, and they have ten starters
- 33:00Speaker 2: on defense coming back, so they already know it. So
- 33:02Speaker 2: now they're getting to the advanced part. Of our Let's
- 33:04Speaker 2: put you guys in different spots and see how that looks.
- 33:07Speaker 2: We'll see it's only August the eleventh, so ok.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yes it is.
- 33:14Speaker 2: It is.
- 33:15Speaker 4: There's much to be seen when it comes to this.
- 33:18Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't want to use like the baseball
- 33:21Speaker 4: term we use in spring, but it is early. Oh
- 33:27Speaker 4: I think we lost Greg. Well, my name is Jessaman McIntyre.
- 33:31Speaker 4: This is the Greg Bell Show here and you're listening
- 33:34Speaker 4: to ninety three point three KJRFM. Coming up next, the
- 33:38Speaker 4: Mariners are in New York and we're going to find
- 33:41Speaker 4: out if Brian Wu can ease those road wows. That's
- 33:46Speaker 4: coming up next ninety three to three KJRFM.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Hi, welcome back to Seahorks Training Camp. Greg Bell and
- 34:04Speaker 2: Jesson McIntyre with you on ninety three point three k
- 34:07Speaker 2: a RFM, on going coverage of the SEAHORWKS Training Camp, brought
- 34:10Speaker 2: to you by the Boeing Classic. We gave away five tickets,
- 34:13Speaker 2: five pairs of tickets yesterday to the Bowing Classic that's
- 34:17Speaker 2: this weekend, the senior PGA event, the only PGA event
- 34:20Speaker 2: in the Pacific Northwest this summer. We'll have shows out
- 34:24Speaker 2: there on Friday, broadcasting from the golf course on the
- 34:27Speaker 2: east side of the Samamish Plateau. We're about to be
- 34:30Speaker 2: on the suppline. I guess that's a Samamish plateau over there. Yeah.
- 34:34Speaker 4: I don't know the you know what, like if you
- 34:37Speaker 4: live in the area, I think people call it something different.
- 34:41Speaker 3: I don't know, but I just know it's beautiful out there.
- 34:45Speaker 2: It is. I live in Seattle city limits, so I
- 34:48Speaker 2: don't know the east side geography as much.
- 34:51Speaker 4: I live in Snowhomish County, so I hear.
- 34:53Speaker 2: You breaking news in the NFL in the last hour
- 34:58Speaker 2: from Minnesota, multiple reports that the Vikings have chosen Kyler Murray,
- 35:03Speaker 2: the former Arizona Cardinals quarterback, as their starter over JJ McCarthy.
- 35:07Speaker 2: And Man has the JJ McCarthy decision altered that franchise
- 35:12Speaker 2: tenth picking the draft a couple of years ago. Still
- 35:14Speaker 2: not the starter, Kyler Murray the starting quarterback this season
- 35:17Speaker 2: to begin this season anyway. From Minnesota, and Man housed
- 35:21Speaker 2: the decision of not resigning Sam Darnell jameson Minnesota.
- 35:26Speaker 4: I know people from Minnesota who are big Viking fans,
- 35:29Speaker 4: and they watched that Super Bowl with Sugrin.
- 35:34Speaker 2: JJ McCarthy is the reason they did that, and then
- 35:37Speaker 2: GM there lost his job over that decision and others
- 35:41Speaker 2: in baseball. The Mariners are at the Yankees tonight. Brian
- 35:45Speaker 2: wu is starting, and I know some of you are saying, why,
- 35:48Speaker 2: I just why don't take the road trip off? The
- 35:52Speaker 2: Mariners losing five of the last six games at home,
- 35:54Speaker 2: go on the road now at Yankee Stadium. Four or
- 35:57Speaker 2: five start tonight with Brian will on the hill. And
- 35:59Speaker 2: that's been a bad thing on the road. Woo seven
- 36:01Speaker 2: and zero at home A one nine six ERA and
- 36:05Speaker 2: ten starts, he's allowed four home runs and it friendly
- 36:08Speaker 2: confines of his own park. On the road, he's one
- 36:10Speaker 2: in eight six point seven to one ERA nine home runs,
- 36:15Speaker 2: a lot more than twice as many home runs all
- 36:17Speaker 2: out on the road. And now he's in the yard tonight.
- 36:19Speaker 2: That is like a bandbox, a crackerjack box, especially out
- 36:23Speaker 2: to right field a Yankee Stadium. Hm hmmm, that's right.
- 36:27Speaker 2: It's gonna be a tough one for Brian Woo tonight.
- 36:30Speaker 4: Yeah, but it could also be him getting over the hump.
- 36:33Speaker 4: I know it's only Tuesday, Tomorrow is hump day, but
- 36:36Speaker 4: like he could he could you know, you can't. You
- 36:40Speaker 4: keep saying that, you know, just go on, you know,
- 36:42Speaker 4: win one, sweep one series, go on a six game
- 36:46Speaker 4: winning streak. Well maybe this could be Brian Woo's six
- 36:51Speaker 4: game winning streak.
- 36:52Speaker 2: How how unlikely would it be for the Mariners of
- 36:55Speaker 2: the team to start a winning streak in Yankee Stadium?
- 36:58Speaker 2: They haven't had much success there over the years, No,
- 37:01Speaker 2: they haven't, a lot of teams haven't. But if they
- 37:04Speaker 2: go on that six game winning streak you're talking about
- 37:06Speaker 2: Jessman on this trip, after they're three with the Yankees
- 37:10Speaker 2: through Thursday afternoon, then they go to Houston to play
- 37:13Speaker 2: the trash Cans for three games, and it would be
- 37:16Speaker 2: nice if they were in within three games before that
- 37:19Speaker 2: series began. They're four and a half back to start
- 37:22Speaker 2: tonight's play, But that six game winning streak would be
- 37:26Speaker 2: pretty timely, wouldn't it. If they could come hop off
- 37:28Speaker 2: all six wins on the road, it's pretty unlikely for
- 37:31Speaker 2: the way they've been playing well.
- 37:32Speaker 4: Divisionally, obviously it would help out, I mean conference wise
- 37:36Speaker 4: when it comes to the Yankees, but divisionally, once they
- 37:39Speaker 4: hit the trash Cans home, that really might just change
- 37:44Speaker 4: our minds a little bit about what we've been seeing, right,
- 37:47Speaker 4: and the.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Way they're playing, four and a half could be seven
- 37:50Speaker 2: and a half back after they leave Houston, or if
- 37:53Speaker 2: they finally get their act together, four and a half
- 37:55Speaker 2: could be one and a half by the time they
- 37:57Speaker 2: left Houston.
- 37:57Speaker 3: Yeah, so they really could.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Yeah, again, it's unbelievable to say that the Manors are
- 38:04Speaker 2: seven games under five hundred yet four and a half
- 38:07Speaker 2: back in the first place.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Well, talking about we've been talking about it's on the
- 38:12Speaker 4: Lee Division for you know, quite a while, and for
- 38:16Speaker 4: them what we've seen, like let's just talk about the
- 38:19Speaker 4: Al Central two years ago, you know, we talked about that. Well,
- 38:24Speaker 4: if they were in that division, they'd be on top
- 38:26Speaker 4: of it. Now they actually have a situation that they
- 38:29Speaker 4: could take advantage of while not playing as well as
- 38:32Speaker 4: we'd like to see.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Right, And that's what gets these guys saying we can
- 38:36Speaker 2: still turn this around. That's why you hear Dan Wilson
- 38:38Speaker 2: say that, what's here? Players say that, And that's obviously
- 38:41Speaker 2: what ownership and Jerry Depoto and Justin Hollander think. As
- 38:45Speaker 2: bad as it's been, there's still time. I know fans
- 38:48Speaker 2: don't want to hear that because especially as poorly as
- 38:50Speaker 2: they've played. It doesn't matter how much times left. There's
- 38:53Speaker 2: forty three games remaining, four and a half back in
- 38:56Speaker 2: the division, and not only the division though, once you
- 38:59Speaker 2: get to the player yef J just man, I mean,
- 39:02Speaker 2: Tampa Bay is the only clear cut good team that
- 39:05Speaker 2: is beating up on the bad Ao. They're twenty six
- 39:08Speaker 2: games over five hundred, on a seven game winning streak
- 39:11Speaker 2: that the Mariners fueled with the three games sweep in
- 39:15Speaker 2: Safego Tea Mobile Park this past weekend. The Yankees are
- 39:18Speaker 2: fourteen over and then that's it. The Red Sox have
- 39:21Speaker 2: caught absolute fire. They're ten games over. After being in
- 39:24Speaker 2: the last place most of the first half of the season,
- 39:26Speaker 2: the Red Sox have tailed off the last three game.
- 39:27Speaker 2: They've lost three in a row. But before that they
- 39:29Speaker 2: won like twenty five of thirty twenty nine games.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Yeah, they got hot.
- 39:33Speaker 2: So they are holding currently holding a playoffs spot, and
- 39:37Speaker 2: they are ten games over five hundred, and then it's
- 39:40Speaker 2: just a morass of mediocrity. The White Sox lead the
- 39:43Speaker 2: AL Central with just a five games over five hundred.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Nobody else in the AL Central has a winning record.
- 39:49Speaker 2: The Twins are two games under and three and a
- 39:50Speaker 2: half back, as are the Tigers. And then the Guardians
- 39:53Speaker 2: are three games under five hundred and four games back.
- 39:56Speaker 2: And then you go to the putrid West. The trash
- 39:59Speaker 2: Cans are just two over five hundred, yet lead the
- 40:01Speaker 2: Rangers by a half game. The Rangers are one game
- 40:03Speaker 2: over five hundred, The Mariners are seven hunder and only
- 40:07Speaker 2: four and a half back. I mean, if they were
- 40:09Speaker 2: in the National League, they would be sold off for
- 40:12Speaker 2: parts by now, and here they only four and a
- 40:14Speaker 2: half back in the playoff race. So when you hear
- 40:18Speaker 2: it drives fans crazy. But when you hear Dan Wilson
- 40:20Speaker 2: and players say we can still turn this around. That's
- 40:24Speaker 2: why the math says, if they're four and a half
- 40:27Speaker 2: back with forty three games left, and that's just the
- 40:30Speaker 2: bottom line.
- 40:31Speaker 3: But give us that fifty four man, like I see.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Yeah, fifty four percent. If they were fifty four percent
- 40:37Speaker 2: right now, they'd be ten games over five hundred. They
- 40:41Speaker 2: would be seventeen games better than they are right now.
- 40:44Speaker 2: They are seventeen games worse than Jerry Depoto's ill faded
- 40:47Speaker 2: fifty four percent comment.
- 40:50Speaker 4: I mean, should we revisit that and kind of give
- 40:54Speaker 4: Jerry some grace on that comment, because he's.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Kind of not wrong right now. Yeah, no, I get it,
- 41:02Speaker 3: I get it.
- 41:02Speaker 2: It was would be boat racing everybody. So, Brian, we'll
- 41:06Speaker 2: get to start tonight and that's going to be no
- 41:09Speaker 2: picnic in that park. As I said, Bryce Miller is
- 41:12Speaker 2: starting tomorrow and Logan Gilbert starts on Thursday afternoon. For
- 41:16Speaker 2: the Mariners, Emerson Hancock's going to get one of the
- 41:19Speaker 2: starts in Houston this weekend. Three games there in Houston.
- 41:25Speaker 2: We'll see this team looks like they're flatlined and dead.
- 41:28Speaker 4: To be honest with you, I know, I'm hoping that
- 41:30Speaker 4: just getting out of the city might just you know,
- 41:34Speaker 4: give them, you know, some clearheaded space.
- 41:37Speaker 2: You know. Maybe it was getting out.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Of you know, with the criticism that they've rightfully faced that,
- 41:43Speaker 4: you know, which is fair, you know, it's fair criticism.
- 41:46Speaker 4: But maybe just being on the road for what they're
- 41:49Speaker 4: they're gone for a while, they're not back until next Monday,
- 41:53Speaker 4: I think, and maybe that'll help.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Maybe it'll help.
- 41:58Speaker 5: Four.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Are you done with the Mariners? Like, don't ever bring
- 42:02Speaker 2: him up again. Let's quit talking about him. It's only
- 42:04Speaker 2: August eleventh. Are we that point? Are we already at
- 42:06Speaker 2: that point. How many of you don't want us to
- 42:08Speaker 2: bring up the mirrors anymore?
- 42:10Speaker 4: Not one word of them speak thing now, We're not
- 42:15Speaker 4: doing that.
- 42:16Speaker 3: We're going to talk about him.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Well, I know we will. I just want to know
- 42:19Speaker 2: what the appetite is out on the text line for
- 42:21Speaker 2: that fortnite.
- 42:22Speaker 4: There's a lot of appetite, and the talkbacks, thank you
- 42:27Speaker 4: very much, are coming in great jessmon.
- 42:29Speaker 2: I'll read or play those back at eleven thirty. I'm next.
- 42:32Speaker 2: AJ Finley, the safety who ripped out his knee twelve
- 42:35Speaker 2: months ago at FanFest. Twelve months later on the same
- 42:38Speaker 2: field at the same event, intercepted Sam Darnold. Saturday night
- 42:41Speaker 2: was a celebration for him. He's had a lot to
- 42:43Speaker 2: celebrate lately, including the birth of their he and his
- 42:47Speaker 2: wife's first child. You'll hear from Aj Finley and where
- 42:49Speaker 2: he sits in the Seahawks defensive back situation next on
- 42:53Speaker 2: ninety three point three kJ RFM.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports Test. Your ninety three
- 43:11Speaker 1: point three JJRFM Sports Headlines.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Good morning, thanks for listening from Seahawks training camp. Your
- 43:17Speaker 2: headlines and brought to you by Frostbrew Cors light choose chill.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Seahawks training camp practice fifteen is this afternoon Day fourteen. Yesterday,
- 43:23Speaker 2: Jackson then jig but was a star getting past Devin Witherspoon,
- 43:27Speaker 2: a beautiful pass from sam Donold, an outside release for
- 43:30Speaker 2: a fifty plus yard touchdown Anthony Bell, and a pick
- 43:33Speaker 2: six the links of the field off Jalen Milroe. Jedari
- 43:36Speaker 2: and Price, the rookie first round pick and running back,
- 43:38Speaker 2: missed his third straight practice. Doesn't look like he will
- 43:40Speaker 2: play Saturday in the first preseason game against Dallas. I
- 43:44Speaker 2: doubt many starters will play at all in that game.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Jake Bobo, rookie third round pick Julian Neil at cornerback,
- 43:49Speaker 2: returned to practice yesterday and positioned drills only they'd missed
- 43:53Speaker 2: the last two weeks with leg injuries. Coach Mike McDonald
- 43:56Speaker 2: said the Seahawks not only had a second free agent
- 43:58Speaker 2: visit with Terry On Arnold, the free agent cornerback released
- 44:02Speaker 2: by Detroit after his arrest on eight phlony charges in
- 44:05Speaker 2: Florida this summer, but the Seahawks had a tryout of
- 44:07Speaker 2: on field workout at Seahawks headquarters on Sunday with Terry
- 44:11Speaker 2: On Arnold McDonald said the visit went very well. Great.
- 44:15Speaker 2: In fact, he said he thought Arnold enjoyed it. I
- 44:18Speaker 2: bet he did, because until about two weeks ago he
- 44:20Speaker 2: was in jail. H He's out at a million dollar
- 44:23Speaker 2: bond pending a hearing on Thursday and arraignment first, expected
- 44:27Speaker 2: to plead not guilty and remain available to visit teams.
- 44:31Speaker 2: He's supposed to be in New Orleans this week before
- 44:33Speaker 2: the arraignment on Thursday. Also in the NFL, the Minnesota
- 44:37Speaker 2: Vikings in the last hour or so news breaking that
- 44:40Speaker 2: they've chosen Kyler Murray, the Arizona Cardinals starter, as their
- 44:43Speaker 2: new starting quarterback over JJ McCarthy for the season. And
- 44:46Speaker 2: man has that McCarthy draft pick at tenth overall.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Not worked out and the lack of resigning our Super
- 44:52Speaker 4: Bowl winner.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Sam Donald's a Seahawks because of that choice by
- 44:57Speaker 2: the Vikings, and Santa Clair running back Christian McCaffrey miss
- 45:00Speaker 2: training camp practice with what the team said was quote tightness.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Our guy far On Lolsy told us last week about
- 45:05Speaker 2: the twenty guys missing from the practice he was at
- 45:07Speaker 2: at forty nine ers camp. The Mariners, Yes, the Mariners,
- 45:11Speaker 2: They're in New York, then the Bronx to play the
- 45:13Speaker 2: Yankees four h five. Today, Brian wu is on the hill.
- 45:17Speaker 2: He's one and eight on the road. He's seven to
- 45:18Speaker 2: oz at home. For be a pretty good time to
- 45:20Speaker 2: reverse that. Ems are seven games under five hundred. Houston
- 45:23Speaker 2: and Texas both won last night while the Mariners were off,
- 45:26Speaker 2: So the Ems are four and a half back in
- 45:28Speaker 2: the Al West, forty three games to play. Diamondbacks star
- 45:31Speaker 2: Corbyn Carroll from Lakeside High School here in Seattle, had
- 45:34Speaker 2: his fifty six career triple last night in Arizona's nine
- 45:36Speaker 2: to nothing went over Colorado. That's the most triples among
- 45:38Speaker 2: all active MLB players. He passed Mike Trout and Sterling Marte.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Marte and trout have each played over fifteen hundred games.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Carrol's played in just six hundred and four. That's how
- 45:48Speaker 2: good Corporate Carrol has been. The Storm one, Hey, the
- 45:50Speaker 2: Storm one eleven game winning streak is over.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Man, that was a long time losing streak. You said,
- 45:59Speaker 3: winning streak.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Yeah, they won the eleven game losing streak is over.
- 46:03Speaker 3: It was a tough bro for them.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Yes, ninety seven eighty eight they beat Chicago. Thanks for
- 46:08Speaker 2: correcting me. The storm are seven and twenty eight after
- 46:12Speaker 2: the win. Last night, back here at the Virginia Mason
- 46:26Speaker 2: Athletic Center in Seahawks training camp on ninety three point
- 46:28Speaker 2: three KJRFM Greg Bell joined by AJ Finley, Seahawks safety
- 46:33Speaker 2: who's been a standout in camp. No more so than
- 46:35Speaker 2: Saturday night at the fan fest at Loomenfield, almost twelve
- 46:39Speaker 2: months to the day after he tore his ACL at
- 46:41Speaker 2: that same event. Sorry to bring it up a good
- 46:43Speaker 2: It's okay. And then Saturday night he comes back after
- 46:47Speaker 2: rehabilitating for the entire year at Seahawks facility, he has
- 46:51Speaker 2: an interception, the interception SUPERWL winning quarterback Sam Darnold trying
- 46:55Speaker 2: to throw to Jackson Smith and jig with the NFL
- 46:56Speaker 2: Offensive Player of the Year. AJ Finley ran the other
- 46:59Speaker 2: end of the field, got to the end zone, celebrating
- 47:01Speaker 2: with his teammates, and then got to the sideline and
- 47:03Speaker 2: as I wrote it the News Tribune, it looked like
- 47:05Speaker 2: they'd won the Super Bowl again. How they were celebrating
- 47:08Speaker 2: you that feeling that moment must have been pretty cool.
- 47:11Speaker 5: Yeah, it was an amazing feeling.
- 47:13Speaker 9: All those guys, they saw the work that put in
- 47:15Speaker 9: that I put in to get back on that field
- 47:16Speaker 9: and uh, and honestly meant a lot to see all
- 47:18Speaker 9: those guys so happy for me.
- 47:19Speaker 5: It was a really good feeling.
- 47:21Speaker 2: You said before practice that nobody wanted to talk to you,
- 47:23Speaker 2: even though everyone knew the symbology of that moment.
- 47:26Speaker 5: I could feel the vibes like everybody.
- 47:28Speaker 9: People would look at me and not really say what
- 47:30Speaker 9: they wanted to say, Like I could see it on
- 47:31Speaker 9: their face.
- 47:32Speaker 5: They were like, are you thinking about it?
- 47:34Speaker 4: Like?
- 47:34Speaker 5: But I was like, nah, I'm I was totally comfortable
- 47:37Speaker 5: out there.
- 47:37Speaker 9: I had already, like I said in the interview on
- 47:39Speaker 9: the Saturday, I said, I already dealt with it, so
- 47:42Speaker 9: I would there really wasn't anything about it, so I
- 47:44Speaker 9: was just going out to play ball.
- 47:45Speaker 2: But Adam Dirty, your defensive coordinator, did talk to you
- 47:47Speaker 2: Saturday morning, right.
- 47:49Speaker 9: What did he tell you? He was just he said,
- 47:51Speaker 9: he said, go out there and let go. H don't
- 47:53Speaker 9: don't really think about it, kind of the same thing
- 47:54Speaker 9: that I was feeling. Don't don't think about it, just
- 47:57Speaker 9: go play ball.
- 47:58Speaker 2: You mentioned Saturday night after to the practice that your
- 48:01Speaker 2: strength and conditioning coach at Mississippi was very instrumental in
- 48:04Speaker 2: your mentality for this situation of so what next? What now?
- 48:08Speaker 2: What I think is what your mind? It was from him.
- 48:11Speaker 2: That was Wilson Love right he now went to University
- 48:15Speaker 2: of Oregon. It's what did he instill in you? And
- 48:19Speaker 2: and why is it that that, in particular stuck with
- 48:21Speaker 2: you for many years since you've been an old miss.
- 48:23Speaker 9: It's stuck with me, Like in everything I do in life, honestly,
- 48:26Speaker 9: like if anything good happens, okay, so what's next? Well, like,
- 48:30Speaker 9: what are we going to do next? Anything bad happened,
- 48:32Speaker 9: is it's okay? So what that happened? Now, we're you
- 48:36Speaker 9: gonna do to react to it? So it's honestly been
- 48:39Speaker 9: a model that I kind of lived by through life,
- 48:41Speaker 9: like nothing nothing can go to something can go to plans,
- 48:43Speaker 9: something not to plan.
- 48:45Speaker 5: It's just how you react.
- 48:46Speaker 2: And you are you still in touch with Wilson Love.
- 48:49Speaker 9: I saw him so my wife used to work for
- 48:51Speaker 9: college game day and they were down in Eugene last
- 48:54Speaker 9: year for a game, and I was obviously I was hurt,
- 48:56Speaker 9: so I didn't go to the game and I went
- 48:57Speaker 9: down to Eugene. I didn't get to see him, but
- 48:59Speaker 9: my wife told me she saw him and he was
- 49:02Speaker 9: excited to see her.
- 49:02Speaker 5: I didn't get a chance to see him.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Though they were joined by A. J. Finley, the Seahawks safety.
- 49:07Speaker 2: His performance the other night had coach Mike McDonald saying,
- 49:09Speaker 2: he's right back where he was this time last year,
- 49:12Speaker 2: which was in the thick of everything in the secondary
- 49:14Speaker 2: and on special teams to make a roster spot. You
- 49:17Speaker 2: mentioned the long road, and that is a lonely rehabilitation
- 49:21Speaker 2: at times, but you had friends here because you stayed
- 49:24Speaker 2: at the Seahawks facility. For those that don't know, the
- 49:26Speaker 2: NFL through its Players Association, don't require players that are
- 49:30Speaker 2: rehabbing from major injuries like that to be here the
- 49:32Speaker 2: entire time, because some guys like to go back to
- 49:35Speaker 2: where they maybe college or their hometown where they trust
- 49:38Speaker 2: the people in the physical But you chose to stay here.
- 49:40Speaker 9: Why they requested that a stay And I was just like,
- 49:44Speaker 9: if they want me to stay out, stay like it
- 49:46Speaker 9: really didn't matter that much. I knew wherever I was at,
- 49:48Speaker 9: I was going to get the work done. And obviously
- 49:51Speaker 9: the training staff here they did an amazing job. Like
- 49:55Speaker 9: they really did an amazing job. So honestly, being here.
- 49:58Speaker 9: It was a big thing too, like being around the
- 50:00Speaker 9: guys like that's that's probably the best part of football.
- 50:03Speaker 9: Like being around the guys, being in the locker room,
- 50:06Speaker 9: having fun, cracking jokes that I like.
- 50:08Speaker 5: That kind of kept me going throughout the whole process too.
- 50:10Speaker 2: And you said you made it a goal to go
- 50:11Speaker 2: out to practice at least a couple times a week, right,
- 50:13Speaker 2: what was that important?
- 50:15Speaker 9: I like being out there on the field like it's
- 50:17Speaker 9: it gave me a goal, like I want to get
- 50:19Speaker 9: back to being there. So honestly going back out to practice,
- 50:22Speaker 9: seeing seeing the guys flying around like I gotta I
- 50:24Speaker 9: saw that, I was like, I gotta get back out
- 50:26Speaker 9: there and doing it.
- 50:27Speaker 2: Because ACL tears and reconstructorvenee surgery so prevalent in sports.
- 50:31Speaker 2: We make something may we may be immune or numb
- 50:34Speaker 2: to what it actually takes to get back from it,
- 50:37Speaker 2: Like it's a cut of a band aid on it,
- 50:38Speaker 2: but it's not a band aid. What what was the
- 50:41Speaker 2: most difficult part of it? Was there any particular milestone
- 50:44Speaker 2: to get to range emotion or flexibility or something that
- 50:46Speaker 2: was very difficult. It took a long time to get back.
- 50:49Speaker 9: I got my range of motion inflection back pretty fast.
- 50:54Speaker 9: I fe like the biggest thing is honestly the isometric
- 50:57Speaker 9: testing that if anybody anybody that's doing there, you know,
- 51:00Speaker 9: they know that isometric testing is it's not fun. But
- 51:04Speaker 9: I like just hitting that ninety percent mark of the
- 51:07Speaker 9: quad symmetry, like that was my biggest goal and I
- 51:09Speaker 9: did it.
- 51:10Speaker 5: I did it pretty fast.
- 51:11Speaker 9: How many months out that one, That one takes a
- 51:13Speaker 9: few months, that one's like it wasn't fast, but it was.
- 51:16Speaker 9: I think I hit it around seven or eight months.
- 51:19Speaker 9: And that's that's really the mark. The word you can
- 51:21Speaker 9: kind of like take the training wheels off, like you
- 51:23Speaker 9: can do more things, like it's not just like straight
- 51:25Speaker 9: line running and like curve running. You can do more jumping,
- 51:29Speaker 9: landing and more cutting and stuff like that. So that
- 51:32Speaker 9: was that was a big smile zone.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Aja family played four years of Old Miss and then
- 51:35Speaker 2: he played for the Los Angeles Charges as a rookie
- 51:38Speaker 2: free agent. That was twenty twenty three, if my math
- 51:41Speaker 2: was right, I think so, yeah, that was for Jeff.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Jeff Howard didn't coach as a position coach, but he
- 51:46Speaker 2: was a linebackers coach who's now the safety's coach for Seattle.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Did he did Jeff Howard have a hand at all
- 51:51Speaker 2: in getting you to Seattle? Or what was the link there?
- 51:54Speaker 2: I've got a lot of connections. Jeff Howard was in
- 51:57Speaker 2: LA with me my rookie year, Chris Partridge. He was
- 52:00Speaker 2: my defensive coordinator when I was at Old Miss, So
- 52:03Speaker 2: I got a lot of connections here. And I'm I'm
- 52:06Speaker 2: a big believer in everything happens for a reason.
- 52:08Speaker 9: Uh even the even the a cl like I like,
- 52:12Speaker 9: although it wasn't the best of circumstances, I really do
- 52:14Speaker 9: feel like it it happened for a reason.
- 52:16Speaker 5: And that reason is we'll see, we'll see, we'll see.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Where do you stand? Do you feel now in a
- 52:23Speaker 2: crowded secondary with Tyle Kottak taking over to peered for
- 52:27Speaker 2: Kobe Bryant leaving and they drafted a safety in the
- 52:30Speaker 2: second round? What are your goals and where do you
- 52:33Speaker 2: see where you fit in there?
- 52:34Speaker 9: I just what I live by is control what you
- 52:36Speaker 9: can control and come out and put your best foot
- 52:38Speaker 9: for it every day, Like there is there's nothing that
- 52:41Speaker 9: you can do outside of like what you can control.
- 52:44Speaker 9: Uh So, whether that's coming to practice, putting my best
- 52:47Speaker 9: foot forward, giving the energy being around helping guys, like,
- 52:51Speaker 9: I don't care what it is like, I'm just gonna
- 52:52Speaker 9: put my best foot forward.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Your wife, Ruby, you met at old miss right, correct?
- 52:57Speaker 2: How'd you mean her?
- 52:58Speaker 5: Matter of the first week of school?
- 52:59Speaker 9: That actually freshman year freshman year Rember, the first week
- 53:02Speaker 9: of school, fire alarm got pulled in the dorms and
- 53:06Speaker 9: usually I didn't go out to those because it was
- 53:07Speaker 9: usually somebody trying to make a prank. And we both
- 53:12Speaker 9: I went down on the lawn that day. I decided
- 53:13Speaker 9: to get out of bed and go down there. It
- 53:15Speaker 9: was like not thirty ten o'clock at night, and I'm like,
- 53:17Speaker 9: I got to get ready for practice, but I was like,
- 53:18Speaker 9: I'll go down today and met her out in the
- 53:21Speaker 9: lawn and it's it's been on from there.
- 53:24Speaker 2: You just were milling around waiting for the fire trucks
- 53:26Speaker 2: to show off, and we just struck up a conversation.
- 53:29Speaker 9: There was a group of football players we were all
- 53:30Speaker 9: standing around, and she called me out.
- 53:32Speaker 2: She caught my.
- 53:34Speaker 9: Her and her roommate. We're both there and we kind
- 53:37Speaker 9: of me and another teammate were talking to them and
- 53:39Speaker 9: we kind of hit it off.
- 53:41Speaker 2: That's the best fire line that's the best alarm ever
- 53:43Speaker 2: in your life.
- 53:43Speaker 5: Huh, best fire alarm in my life for sure? For sure?
- 53:47Speaker 2: And when did you marry? Married?
- 53:50Speaker 5: In two Okay, so why right before my senior year?
- 53:54Speaker 2: What was it like being a married college football player?
- 53:57Speaker 9: It was amazing, honestly, Like most people are scared to
- 53:59Speaker 9: think like that, but it was honestly fun. Like I
- 54:03Speaker 9: knew she was my person. Uh, and she's been by
- 54:05Speaker 9: my side through everything, so it's it sounds been amazing.
- 54:08Speaker 2: And you have a baby daughter, Violet, Violet born almost
- 54:12Speaker 2: two months to the day now, right.
- 54:13Speaker 5: Yep, June thirteenth, two days after the ring ceremony. Yeah,
- 54:17Speaker 5: that was a week.
- 54:18Speaker 2: Uh huh your wife did she was she able to
- 54:21Speaker 2: attend the rings? She wasn't.
- 54:22Speaker 5: We had her baby in Vegas. Souh.
- 54:25Speaker 9: She was here, She was in Vegas and she was
- 54:27Speaker 9: very upset that she didn't get back into the ring ceremony.
- 54:29Speaker 9: But uh, I flew down the next morning after the
- 54:32Speaker 9: ring ceremony and the baby popped out two days later.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Tell us those that are listening who haven't had
- 54:38Speaker 2: children may not be able to relate to this. Those
- 54:40Speaker 2: who are our parents like we are can. But how
- 54:43Speaker 2: life changing that event.
- 54:45Speaker 9: Yeah, I fuck, it's it's a crazy thing. Like as
- 54:47Speaker 9: a dad, like you don't really you go through the pregnancy,
- 54:50Speaker 9: you're not really diddling with like you're not getting bigger,
- 54:52Speaker 9: you're not dealing with the hormones and stuff. But as
- 54:54Speaker 9: soon as you hold that baby, I feel like your
- 54:56Speaker 9: whole life just changes. It's it's the best feeling in
- 54:59Speaker 9: the world. You got this little thing that just depends
- 55:02Speaker 9: on you, like it doesn't matter what you do, Like
- 55:04Speaker 9: they don't care, like they're everything. You're there, everything, and
- 55:09Speaker 9: it's it's really just life chacking, life changing experience.
- 55:12Speaker 2: How has it changed you as a seahawk and your job?
- 55:14Speaker 2: Do you think?
- 55:16Speaker 9: Uh? Honestly, like it does make you feel like, man,
- 55:19Speaker 9: I gotta go out here and do this for this
- 55:20Speaker 9: little kid, like they really are depending on me. So
- 55:23Speaker 9: it honestly does add a little umph to everything you do.
- 55:26Speaker 2: When you probably have read or heard your coach after
- 55:29Speaker 2: the practice said he's put himself right back into the
- 55:32Speaker 2: thick of things. How does that make you feel? Or
- 55:34Speaker 2: the appreciation he said, how could you not be incredibly
- 55:37Speaker 2: happy for aj Finley?
- 55:39Speaker 9: How does that make you feel? It makes me feel good.
- 55:42Speaker 9: I honestly do still like I feel got a long
- 55:43Speaker 9: way to go. I'm not I mean, I'm comfortable out there,
- 55:47Speaker 9: but I feel like I'm my biggest critic. And although
- 55:50Speaker 9: I had to pick, I still had a few players
- 55:52Speaker 9: that I didn't really love so much. But uh, it's
- 55:55Speaker 9: a good feeling to know that you're putting yourself back
- 55:57Speaker 9: in a position to compete for a job.
- 55:59Speaker 2: What is this scheme? How does it fit you? Are
- 56:02Speaker 2: you still learning it? Is there a particular aspect of
- 56:05Speaker 2: what Mike McDonald, Carl Scott and I'D and dirty are
- 56:07Speaker 2: doing that really suit you.
- 56:09Speaker 9: I had the same scheme in LA, so Jesse Minner.
- 56:12Speaker 9: He was the DC in LA when I my second year,
- 56:15Speaker 9: and it's it's the same defense. So I pretty much
- 56:17Speaker 9: know the whole know the whole defense, and I don't
- 56:19Speaker 9: try to put a position on myself. I feel like,
- 56:22Speaker 9: especially as a safety, like I feel like I can
- 56:24Speaker 9: learn how to do all of the positions where there's
- 56:25Speaker 9: the safety, the big nickel or dime like, I feel
- 56:28Speaker 9: like I can do all those things.
- 56:29Speaker 2: And they ask you to do that quite a bit, right.
- 56:31Speaker 2: That's the versatility and multiplicity is the whole defense.
- 56:33Speaker 5: You gotta I feel like at a safety you gotta
- 56:34Speaker 5: know the whole thing.
- 56:35Speaker 2: Yeah, did life change it all? As a Super Bowl champion?
- 56:39Speaker 2: Are you recognized your people that know you think that
- 56:41Speaker 2: you're walking on water.
- 56:43Speaker 9: I feel like yeah, honestly, like everybody they look at
- 56:47Speaker 9: you different, like that that super Bowl champion, that that
- 56:49Speaker 9: that stays with you for a lifetime, no matter like
- 56:51Speaker 9: I was an ir like I'm still.
- 56:53Speaker 5: A super Bowl champion. But yeah, people definitely do look
- 56:56Speaker 5: at you different.
- 56:56Speaker 2: I saw the pictures of your wife then pregnant, I
- 56:59Speaker 2: think about a month after you announced it. On the
- 57:02Speaker 2: field with you at the Super Bowl kind of experience was.
- 57:04Speaker 9: It was so fun both of us getting the experience
- 57:07Speaker 9: and not a lot of people get the experience that.
- 57:09Speaker 9: Like at first I was like, man, I'm not playing,
- 57:12Speaker 9: but I was like, this is this is such a
- 57:14Speaker 9: surreal experience.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Uh.
- 57:16Speaker 9: Not a lot of people get to experience it regardless
- 57:18Speaker 9: of the situation. So honestly taking it in and then
- 57:21Speaker 9: joined the situation, it was. It was really fun.
- 57:23Speaker 2: When were you back on the field doing football stuff
- 57:25Speaker 2: for the first time.
- 57:26Speaker 9: I was back on the field doing football like I
- 57:29Speaker 9: did in OTAs. I did pretty much all of Indie
- 57:31Speaker 9: and uh some special team stuff, but I wasn't allowed
- 57:34Speaker 9: to do like the full team periods.
- 57:36Speaker 5: But I've been doing football stuff since OTAs.
- 57:38Speaker 2: So OTAs was about nine months out. Was that a
- 57:42Speaker 2: little earlier than they projected or doctors projected for you?
- 57:44Speaker 5: Uh so no, the doctors projected.
- 57:47Speaker 9: So my surgeon he was basically saying, like, I feel
- 57:50Speaker 9: comfortable with you going out there and doing OTAs and
- 57:52Speaker 9: like being full go. But he was like, since you're
- 57:54Speaker 9: in a place that you're comfortable like this, the staff
- 57:56Speaker 9: knows what you can do, Like don't don't go out
- 57:58Speaker 9: there and rush it, like, go go to OTAs, do
- 58:01Speaker 9: do the workouts. Sorry, do the workouts, do the Indian stuff,
- 58:06Speaker 9: and then come to training camp ready to go.
- 58:08Speaker 5: So that was that was the plan.
- 58:10Speaker 2: And now you're full go, just letting the rep full
- 58:12Speaker 2: go your calls, sir for this summer, what are you
- 58:15Speaker 2: intending to do?
- 58:16Speaker 9: Honestly, put myself in the best situation to make a
- 58:19Speaker 9: difference to make this team, whether that's whatever role that is.
- 58:22Speaker 9: Like I just I just want to play football, Like
- 58:25Speaker 9: it's been a year. Honestly, I don't care what I'm doing.
- 58:27Speaker 9: I just want to play football.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Are you on all the teams that could be your
- 58:31Speaker 2: play Yeah.
- 58:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 58:32Speaker 2: Anything that stands out about Jay Harbody the innovative special
- 58:35Speaker 2: teams coach.
- 58:36Speaker 5: He he is so particular.
- 58:39Speaker 9: He is a stickler for details, and I feel like
- 58:42Speaker 9: that's what sets him apart, Like the details that he
- 58:44Speaker 9: puts into the work that he does like weekend and
- 58:47Speaker 9: week out, Like he has something that like can affect
- 58:50Speaker 9: the game in a big way.
- 58:51Speaker 5: I feel like he does that at a high level.
- 58:53Speaker 2: I mean down to where you can't step wrong. Right.
- 58:56Speaker 2: He's gotten you under your steps and what angle you
- 58:58Speaker 2: take a step in. Aj Finley, It's been a pleasure
- 59:00Speaker 2: to speak with you the last two practices. All the
- 59:02Speaker 2: best to you and you're growing baby daughter, and thank you,
- 59:05Speaker 2: thank you very much. That's the Seahawks sainety AJ Finley,
- 59:12Speaker 2: who Mike McCone said, is back in the mix twelve
- 59:14Speaker 2: months after being in the mix until his injury is
- 59:17Speaker 2: RECONSTRUCTI knee surgery costume all of last season. Word, if
- 59:23Speaker 2: you're a college student on summer break, or if you're
- 59:25Speaker 2: a parent of a college student in the fire alarm
- 59:27Speaker 2: rings in your dorm, go downstairs, go outside, don't blow
- 59:32Speaker 2: it off. You might find your future mate. That's a
- 59:35Speaker 2: funny story. He said he would be blown off so
- 59:38Speaker 2: many of those fire alarms and he was so tired
- 59:42Speaker 2: sleep and get trying to sleep for his freshman year
- 59:45Speaker 2: August practices.
- 59:48Speaker 3: That's the cutest cute meat I think I've ever heard.
- 59:53Speaker 2: That is pretty cute.
- 59:54Speaker 4: I mean, and it's only okay. That happened to be
- 59:57Speaker 4: in college too. And I was a volleyball player, and
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: so you know fall sport, You go to bed early,
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: you're not partying with the rest of everybody, and of
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: course some drunk jerk would come pull the fire alarm
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: and you're stuck outside. And I went to school in Massachusetts,
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: so it was cold, and you're standing outside at two
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: in the morning, knowing that you have class and practice
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: the next.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: Day, and you're just not in a great mood. So
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: the fact that they.
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: Were able to meet that way when it's not an
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: ideal situation, I just thought it was sweet.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pretty cool. So there you go. If college
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: kids get a list of the fire alarm, it might
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: change your life literally as it did for Agent.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: Just look at every you know, problem is a potential opportunity.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: That's a good way of looking at it, Jessman, Oh, yeah,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: no opportunity coming up for Nicki Mulworrey. In the last
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: time I've been on the show here in the last
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: hour or so, he has passed his physical. So Nicki
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Manworrey passes his team physical. What's that mean. Well, that's
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: the first depy, the next step to getting back to practice.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: He can now come off to physically unable to perform
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: list at any time. Now that he's passed the physical,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: he can practice at any time during training camp. And
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: we're still one month minus two days from the opener,
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: so he remains on track. As they've said since the start,
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: I couldn't get Mike McDonald been him down to say
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: it on the record, but I've been told the Seahawks
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: are expecting nick even Warrie to play Week one. Today
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: is a big step in that direction. He passes his
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: physical still not even halfway through training camp. That puts
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: him on track to start September ninth, when the Seahawks
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: play the New England Patriots. So that's good injury news
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: for the Seahawks for sure. A lot of what Mike
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: McDonald wants to do on defense, center's around number three,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: nick even worry and moving him all around and he
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: takes a big step today. That's probably the best news
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: of training camp so far for the Sea. So great.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: He's gone from everyone's seeing him last Tuesday in an
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: older clip like from July in Mike McDonald's office with
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: a scooter in a walking boot and everyone's saying there's
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: no way that cat's playing Week one to last week
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: being in a soft race, signing autographs to me seeing
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: him and posting pictures at the news tribute about him
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: being in crocs like those cane shoes we were talking
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: about just walking around freely to.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: Be so much better than crocs.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you're a big canes person because.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Of my nephew. My nephew's really into them.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Apparently they from Austin, the guy who developed them from Austin, Texas,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: and Nicki McRory said he's been on canes for a
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: long time, like he loved him when he was at
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: South Carolina. And now they've blown up these after workout
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: shoes that are supposed to aid in recovery in your
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: feet and ankle. Well, canes must be working because Nicky
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: Manrory just passed.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: The team can sponsor our show.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Exactly, mister Kane got it's down in Austin, Texas. Up next,
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: you're a chance to be a part of the show.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: We have some talkbacks, Seahawks talkbacks. Maybe I don't know
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: Mariner's talkbacks. A lot of Mariners text and Seahawks texts.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Now the news of Nicky men worry has passed as physical.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: You'll be a part of the show. Next. From the
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: Seahawks training camp at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center on
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 1:04:03Speaker 10: I don't think a team would either consider bringing him
- 1:04:05Speaker 10: in unless they thought there was a chance he could play.
- 1:04:09Speaker 10: If not, that's a terrible business decision. So either a
- 1:04:13Speaker 10: it didn't happen or be it's not as bad as
- 1:04:15Speaker 10: people are thinking. So I say sign him if you
- 1:04:19Speaker 10: think you should, and let's win some games. Also, everyone
- 1:04:25Speaker 10: deserves the second chance unless it is as bad as
- 1:04:28Speaker 10: it's haunded.
- 1:04:29Speaker 8: Well a fellow suffering Seattle man or fans Chip Beer,
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: I hope everybody's doing well. For me, it's pretty obvious.
- 1:04:34Speaker 8: I'm sure a lot of people are thinking this way
- 1:04:35Speaker 8: that if a reasonable person would look at the evidence
- 1:04:38Speaker 8: and see that Arnold didn't do anything.
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: These guys did it on their own or whatever.
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: Sign him and if not, don't.
- 1:04:43Speaker 8: I it's not always that black and white, but I
- 1:04:45Speaker 8: think that's probably most people's approach. The more interesting question
- 1:04:48Speaker 8: for me to McDonald is what could Arnold bring to
- 1:04:51Speaker 8: this already very talented defense that is worth this distraction
- 1:04:55Speaker 8: or potential distraction.
- 1:04:56Speaker 11: Just the thought if the Seahawks are bringing in Terry
- 1:04:59Speaker 11: on Arnold, I mean that they think he will be exonerated,
- 1:05:03Speaker 11: because I know they have their own investigators and they
- 1:05:06Speaker 11: don't usually waste resources or time on things where they
- 1:05:10Speaker 11: don't feel like a guy as a hands being exonerated
- 1:05:14Speaker 11: from whatever they're accused of.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: The answer to that last one is yes. And I
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: don't think they would even be hosting him if they
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: didn't have information that suggested he will not be charged
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: or he will be exonerated. As we mentioned at the
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: top of the show, you don't go this far down
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: the pike with someone who have no inkling will be available.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: And when I asked Mike McDonald yesterday did the Seahawks
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: have an idea of whether he will be available for
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: the entire season, he said, we're still working through. That's
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: that's obviously not his call. To the point about what
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: can he add to the defense. He's a first round
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: draft pick and an NFL starter who's still just twenty
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: three years old on his rookie deal. That's what he
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: can add. They'll have two that if he would have
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: would sign with the Seahawks. They have two first round
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: picks under the age of twenty six starting at the
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: two most important positions of the defense in this past
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: happy league. That's the football side of it and why
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: they're interested. Are many teams who have two first round
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: picks twenty five and younger starting at both corner spots
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: at an elite level Arnold is. That's what he's been
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: so far. He's just had a much shorter time of
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: it than Nick, than Devin Witherspoon so far. So that's
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: the reason.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: Yeah, football, I mean, that's exactly what I was going
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: to say, because you've said it plenty of times that
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: football does always win. Uh yeah, But yeah, I mean,
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: we just have to see. We just have to see.
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: We don't know the details, none of us do. A
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: million dollar bond is a little telling, yes, but.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: We'll see. We'll see.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Four to five, No more mariner talk to the Komadad's
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: text sign no more Mariner talk. That's like seven exclamation points.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: A more compelling topic would be Infantino trying to sell
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: pieces of the World Cup in the sub subsequent backlash
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: from multiple federations opposing it in him. Yes, he's trying
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: to sell private steakes of FIFA to private investors. He
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: announced that right that decision right after the World Cup,
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: and then so many people went ballistic that he backed
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: off that plan. Conca, calf UEFA and the African Nations
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: of Soccer have are trying to oust them. They're trying
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: to get rid of the head of FIFAT tension.
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: There's a lot of tension there.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: The President of the United States waited and warned that
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: would be a bad idea because he's friends with Infantino. Well, yeah,
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: four to five. The Lions had him for a few years.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: We're talking about Terry and Arnod. The Lions had him
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: for a few years and dumped him without hesitation. And
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: that team is desperate. I don't know how desperate the
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Lions are. They're a really good team. They've been a division, yeah,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: champion quality team. They're desperate to win a title. Yes,
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: that is true.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: Yeah, but I do understand the sentiment of the listener
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: though a couple of them who has said that that's
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: the red flag.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: Two five three. It cracks me up how much you're
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: promoting these cane shoes promotion money, No, no, come on, honestly.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Any caine you know what we have?
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: So many companies move into the city, like if there's
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: a cane rep out there, Cane's Rep. My nephew's a
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: huge fan of them. I didn't even know about them.
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: He was ten at the time and had to inform
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: me about them.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: The reason I'm talking about it is I'm doing a
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: little reporting for you. I was first person seeing it,
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: and I was surprised that someone that was in a
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: walking boot at the end of last month had no
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: brace at all. In fact, was wearing soft shoes that
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: looked to me like crocs. So I asked him crocs
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: and he said, no, let me talk about these cane shoes.
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: And I wrote it my story for the News Tribune.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: So it's not that I invest in canes or get
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: money from canes. It's that that the news of it
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: was he wasn't wearing anything but flip flops, basically these
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: low cut shoes with no ankle support at all, and
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: that told me how much further. It was an indicator
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: to me, So we used to call it back in
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: my intelligence officer take in the army. It was an
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: indicator to me that, oh, he may be a lot
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: better than we thought. And then lo and behold, today
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: he passes a physical. The next step Nick emun worried
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: to getting on the practice field for the first time
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: since he had his arthroscopic ankle surgery last month. So
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: that's that's the whole reason for that. But seven one
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: nine says, I'm still gonna watch and pay attention to
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: the Mariners, but now I'm not. I watched for the laughs,
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: not the playoff hopes. That's fatalistic. Four five love that
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: you are with high school sports, So you're bringing that back, Yes, yes,
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: i am. We've talked about this. We are going. My
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: plan is to have a Friday segment about high school
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: football once the football season starts. I am still officiating
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: high school games when I'm around. When I'm not on
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: the road with the Seahawks, I officiate high school football
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: games in the area. And some of my connections there
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: some of my friends in the high school sports world.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: We hope to bring it beyond football to other sports
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: as well. We had the Roosevelt golfers that were on
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: that qualified for the US Junior National Amateur. Yeah. I
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: love it.
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: I think that our station has done a really good
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: job of highlighting high school sports. And you know, I
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: know it was before my time here, but I've been
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: here for three and a half years now and I've
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: noticed it too, and I love it, and I would
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: love to do it on this show.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you, We're going to do that. Four two
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: five said I ordered canes and shouted you and Emon
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Warry out on their Facebook pagel. I bought them there Apple, Thanks.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: Kay knows me some commission they only are cut. Michael
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: for to five, friend of the station, longtime Texter. The
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Mariner's ownership group needs to sell. It's been a joke
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: for decades. They are the problem. Changing the front office
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: and players isn't the problem after twenty five years. M
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: The thing about the ownership group, there are like twenty
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: plus investors, as most of you know there are, and
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: that would be I mean that cell would be it
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: would be a it'd be a thing you'd have to
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: get everybody on board. You'd have to get minority investors
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: to become majority investors.
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: Or yeah yeah, project Yeah, let's.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Keep the m's talk minimal until they actually do something positive.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: I'm over it.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Oh that's where apathy, greg apathy is setting in.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: I know. Oh, very dangerous. Yes for a fan base
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: four to five? What are you for my meet and
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: buy a twenty game ticket backache? No, I can't even
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: give my last five game tickets away for the Mariners.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: That's sorry about that?
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, well it's it's just tough. It's a tough
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: sell because it's a haul for most people to get there.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Not everyone lives ten seconds from the stadium and can
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: just like walk over and chaunt out.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: The only thing I want to hear for two five three,
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: The only thing I want to hear is what trades
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Jerry's gonna make in the offseason. This team's going nowhere.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: The weird part is they still have a chance. They do.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: They do.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: As down as we are on this team right now,
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: they still have a chance.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: To that point, the fourteen four oh two made me
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: laugh when he or she texted every day you spend
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: fifteen minutes trying to convince people to Mariners have a chance,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: then say, I know Mariner fans to win to hear it.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: Yes, yes, but it is also our job to talk
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: about everything that's going on in Seattle sports. So you're
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: gonna hear about it, whether it be the good, the bad,
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: or the ugly.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Uh two five three says the only issue I have
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: with Arnold is he got the wrong guys. That's a
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: prosecutor's thing. They able to let Arnold jumped the wrong dudes,
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: the real thief The real thieves deserve that beating. Three
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: six oh, run the other way. If the Lions coach
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: cut him that fast, he's a problem. Run the other way.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: This is where punctuation would help. Run the other way.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: If the Lions coach cut him that fast, he's a problem.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: The Lions had for years dumped him without hesitation, and
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: that team is That's why I read that.
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: Yep, yeah, yeah, no, there's a lot of opinion about it.
- 1:13:52Speaker 7: That.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: I don't like to make a strong judgment on something
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: I don't know the details of, so it's a little
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: bit of a tricky situation. But as one of the
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: talkbacks said, obviously these people have their own investigators and
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: probably know way more than we do.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: Absolutely, the Mariners, the Seahawks have their own. Every NFL
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: team has their own investigation. They our own go back
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: in talk to people and honestly, the way this stuff works,
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: millionaire athletes get people to change their story. That's a
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: fact of life. And that's that's not always justice, that's
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: not always right, but that's what happens in a lot
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: of these cases. That's happened many times in sports, many
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: many times in sports. Two five three? What association do
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: I officiate for? The Pacific Northwest Football Association, the one
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: that's based here in King County. We go down to Kent,
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: we do games up to about Everett, We go all
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: east to enom Claw and eastern maybe enom clause about
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: the limit and then outside those type of things. Awesome.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: The Metro League, Yeah, I get around a little bit
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: in the fall.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: Do you have a favorite jelly belly?
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: Really, Ryan and Scottsdale, Yes, but yeah, I was.
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: Wondering if you have one. Did you ever get those
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: joke ones?
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: Yes, rotten eggs.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: There was one that was like basically the ear wax.
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: I think it was called ear wax, just as like evil.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: Who does that?
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Ryan and Scottsdale at three six You like grape though,
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: grape and rupier. I think discussing your favorite jelly belly
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: flavor is more interesting than the Mariners right now.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: Ryan says, That's why I was giving that one to Ryan,
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: because he wanted something interesting.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't. I always like the watermelon.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: The four two five is The lack of depth of
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: Cornerback alone creates need. They are also not great at
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: coverage at Cornerback three six, O love the high school
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: features you bring, you bring, appreciate you and Chris Egan
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: for that. The new Sports Show and King five with
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: the Gang is the best TV show on the air.
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: It is really good.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a regular with them. I'm going to be
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: on it again and here in the next day or two.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: I have a great time when I go with those guys.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: It's a lot of fun. Paul and Chris, it's a
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: lot of fun.
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: Love it all right. We got in for ness in
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: the house. I'm not alone anymore.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: Could I put in Keith real quick? Two five three Keith?
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: Yes?
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: So you guys know when the next Jimothy promo is.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: I bet it won't happen during the playoffs. Nope, not
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: happening during the playoffs. Probably I had to get a
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Jimothy reference.
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: I mean, I'm still all on Jimothy. I got one
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: of the cards.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: They gave out.
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess, so I tweeted out joking a picture
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: of it, and I got, like I was telling you
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: the other day, I got like, spammed on.
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: X I guess you want to call it and apparently, yeah.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: It's like a viral thing, and all these bots came
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: after me wanting to buy it, and I was like, no, now,
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: I'm going to keep it.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: All right two o six, You're gonna get aired out here.
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: Why do I insist on playing that horrible lead in
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: music for way too long? It's beyond me. Are you
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: just not ready to talk? I think you're just not
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: ready to listen. I've said my daughter is insid in
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: the coastguard. I rarely see her. It's her favorite song.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: I'm proud of someone who was born in two thousand
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: and three to have a favorite song from the nineteen
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: nineties Return of the mac Mark Morrison and I play
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: it because it reminds me of her period. End of story.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: No more reason than that if you don't like Greg show,
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: I don't like it, that's fine. I happen to think
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: it's pretty good song.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: It's like fifteen seconds of a really good song that
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: you have to suffer through.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: We're so seaway.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Thanks for listening. No, thanks for the note, but I
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: just have to. I wanted to use it to explain
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: for those of you who may have just joined the
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: show or haven't been listening for a while, why we
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: play that music at the start. That goes way back
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: to twenty twenty four when Chris Kidd and I had
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: the show and we played it too, and Chris thought
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: it was a great idea, and so it stuck. So
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: that's our I love it. Thank you jess Man.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: I love that song too, and I love Sarah.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: Thank you, Jo. Appreciate that. Check in the mail Ian
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Forness is back in the studio with Jess and I
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: can't see him, but I bet I'm going to hear
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: him next. On ninety three point three KJRFM, Hi, welcome
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: back from Seahawks training camp, Greg Bell The News Tribune.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Fifteenth day of practiced Today, Nicki mon Warriy has passed
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: his team physical. That's the first thing he must do
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: before he can come off to physically unable to perform
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: list and practice for the first time in camp. So
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: now we're waiting to see it should be a matter
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: of days, you would think before NICKI Mon Worry will
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: be back on the field. And we're not even a month,
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: with barely twenty eight days until the opener. So he's
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: still on track to start week one, despite what it
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: may have looked like on Hard Knocks in the first
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: episode last week. You know what the friends music means.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: It means the Mayor Maple Valley is joining us on
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: the show. Ian forness Beck in the studio with Chessman. Hello, sir, Hello,
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: So all that consternation about the walking boot and the scooter.
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: I guess it's starting.
- 1:20:00Speaker 12: The timing is is something, isn't it. The timing's perfect
- 1:20:04Speaker 12: a week you know, a week after it and the
- 1:20:06Speaker 12: day of the second Hard Knocks coming out. It's perfect timing.
- 1:20:10Speaker 12: It's perfect timing. Take him off the pup list. I mean,
- 1:20:14Speaker 12: there you go, pass the physical Thanks for coming. So yeah,
- 1:20:19Speaker 12: good stuff. You know, it's funny. I think you and
- 1:20:21Speaker 12: I talked about it because when were we out there?
- 1:20:24Speaker 12: Were we out there Tuesday? Monday, Tuesday whenever. It was
- 1:20:27Speaker 12: early last week. I think it was one of those
- 1:20:28Speaker 12: two days we saw him walking out to practice without
- 1:20:32Speaker 12: a cane or anything, right, and then walking in. I
- 1:20:34Speaker 12: saw him yesterday when they were practicing. He was in
- 1:20:36Speaker 12: the weight room. He came out and he was he
- 1:20:38Speaker 12: had put in a hell of a workout. I can
- 1:20:40Speaker 12: tell you that because he came out of the next
- 1:20:42Speaker 12: do where we're at normally outside and walked out and
- 1:20:45Speaker 12: I'm like, yeah.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: He looks fine.
- 1:20:47Speaker 12: I mean he's not running, but I mean obviously the
- 1:20:49Speaker 12: workout there's no boot, there's nothing, and you know where
- 1:20:51Speaker 12: you go. So yeah, all the consternation, you can all
- 1:20:55Speaker 12: take a deep breath and probably see him on the
- 1:20:57Speaker 12: field against the New England Patriots on that.
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't see how he wouldn't No, no, no,
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: still no, not even but pretty much a month before
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: the opener.
- 1:21:06Speaker 12: Yeah, yes, yeah, so I think we're good.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: What did you make of I was surprised at how
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: much Mike McDonald talked about Terry on Arnold, even calling
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: him by his first name throughout some differences. What did
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: you make of all that? And my feeling is they've
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: got some kind of word that he's going to get exonerated.
- 1:21:25Speaker 12: For them to be this interested, yeah, I don't think
- 1:21:27Speaker 12: they go down that road if they didn't think that.
- 1:21:29Speaker 12: I think that there's you know, and you know, we
- 1:21:32Speaker 12: know how the NFL works and how each individual team works.
- 1:21:34Speaker 12: They all have their own security groups and teams and
- 1:21:38Speaker 12: people that are you know, not just you know Paul Bart,
- 1:21:42Speaker 12: you know, mall security guy, right, mal coop, it's these
- 1:21:45Speaker 12: guys are the dudes that are working for teams and
- 1:21:47Speaker 12: then specifically and then the NFL are all ex high
- 1:21:51Speaker 12: ranking you know, law enforcement of some sort FBI troop,
- 1:21:55Speaker 12: state trooper, whatever it might be. So they they know
- 1:21:59Speaker 12: how to instigate, they know how to look into things,
- 1:22:01Speaker 12: and they have some resources that maybe some others don't.
- 1:22:04Speaker 12: And so I just don't think they even go down
- 1:22:06Speaker 12: the road of even talking about him publicly or even
- 1:22:09Speaker 12: bringing him in certainly if they didn't feel that there's
- 1:22:12Speaker 12: something there that that gives them, you know, CONFI I
- 1:22:16Speaker 12: guess it gives them confidence that he's not going to
- 1:22:18Speaker 12: be in trouble and maybe more importantly, Greg, more importantly
- 1:22:22Speaker 12: than that that whatever was going on, maybe he wasn't
- 1:22:25Speaker 12: as involved as as eight felony charges may indicate, because
- 1:22:29Speaker 12: that is a startling number to be put in front
- 1:22:32Speaker 12: of somebody.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: Right, and the prosecutors will bet she was the ring leader,
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: the orchestrator. Yeah, yeah, that seems to be the contention
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: point there. How much did the orchestrate Yeah, I wasn't
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: there when the assault began at the apartment. He was
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: on his way allegedly.
- 1:22:45Speaker 12: It would it would surprise me not at all if
- 1:22:49Speaker 12: Pete Carroll was still the coach exactly. But that's not
- 1:22:53Speaker 12: the case. And I mean, that's just such a good
- 1:22:57Speaker 12: locker room the character on that team. I mean, they've
- 1:22:59Speaker 12: kind of shifted a little bit. They're not really you know,
- 1:23:02Speaker 12: the Malik mcdal's and Frank Clark's and others of the world.
- 1:23:06Speaker 12: They're not going down that road anymore. It doesn't appear.
- 1:23:08Speaker 12: So I they must have some good information because I
- 1:23:11Speaker 12: just and then the fact that he was so open
- 1:23:13Speaker 12: about it was that actually surprised me even more.
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: Yes, yes, that's surprisedly more. So what do you get today, sir?
- 1:23:21Speaker 12: We're gonna check check in with an old friend, simsy
