- 0:56Thank you. Now here are the hosts of the
- 1:00United We Scan podcast. Welcome back everybody.
- 1:05I am back this week. I almost didn't think I was
- 1:07going to be, but I am here today What are we on episode 84?
- 1:15Is that right? Please remind me I'll have my
- 1:17phone in front of me. That's.
- 1:19What it says? That's what Josh said.
- 1:21Hey, cool. I, I, I missed last week.
- 1:23You know, I'm, I'm winging it today so I'm not even home.
- 1:28So you know, I'm winging it all. How was your week, James?
- 1:34Oh, lots and lots of fun. I had to file MY2 grievances
- 1:39with management and waiting on a result.
- 1:43My ADR is going to meet with management on Tuesday on it,
- 1:46supposedly. So we'll see how that turns out.
- 1:51And it was still heavy, still getting those Amazon packages
- 1:55in. Lots of postal packages coming
- 1:57in from Prime week now, because some people on the Prime
- 2:02channels were shipping through the Postal Service or FedEx or
- 2:06UPS or everybody else besides Amazon.
- 2:09So those started rolling in this week didn't have a single week
- 2:13where I was even close to my evaluated average number of
- 2:18packages. So I'm hoping that this number
- 2:20helps my bell curve, you know? But other than that, it was
- 2:24pretty much a normal week. Thursday I got into a discussion
- 2:29with a carrier in my office about rural route optimization
- 2:34and kept asking questions about it, kept asking questions.
- 2:37And I turned around and I told him you need to file the 1767
- 2:41and an 8191. So on Friday night, my ADR
- 2:46called me for a little bit more information on the grievances
- 2:50that I filed. And I informed her that she's
- 2:53going to be getting another one over the railroad optimization.
- 2:56And she said, and I explained what was happening and she said
- 2:59good, he needs to file that. So that's going to be coming to
- 3:02management too. But then the weekend came and
- 3:07now here we are to do this podcast.
- 3:09So how was your week Toasty? It was actually a pretty steady
- 3:16week. Amazingly, Monday wasn't too
- 3:18heavy and either was Tuesday or Wednesday or the rest of the
- 3:22week. Actually got done pretty early
- 3:25on Tuesday. So I went ahead and did my
- 3:27mapping and after I was finished doing my LTM, found out that it
- 3:32looks like they're starting to implement the interim route
- 3:34adjustment process. Finally, after a year and a half
- 3:38of this program, the next day they actually decided to go
- 3:42ahead and start sitting down with carriers going over the
- 3:46rule route optimization process. And it basically has me doing
- 3:50what I used to do when I first created the route when it was
- 3:55all pieced together and everything like that from the
- 3:582018 count, instead of me doing what I'm doing now, which is try
- 4:02to unload everything at the CBU's and then do all my
- 4:05curbside after that. But it's probably most optimal
- 4:10to do honestly. And had a few errors that we
- 4:15went ahead and submitted the restrictions on and keep having
- 4:20to go back in and put in more restrictions for one of my
- 4:23subdivisions. But other than that, not too
- 4:28bad. Got some rain down here finally.
- 4:31It's not in the hundreds and it's been nice.
- 4:35It hasn't been too bad of a week.
- 4:38How about you, Bill? Oh, it's just another lazy week
- 4:42for me doing paperwork. The convention coming up, I'm
- 4:46very busy on research for my acceptance of the nomination
- 4:51speech as well as, you know, fine tuning my letter.
- 4:55And what gets me about this week was the all the notices I got
- 5:00from people in regards to the rule route optimization, losing
- 5:056 miles, losing 15 miles, losing this, losing that.
- 5:08And, and the general consensus of everybody was the fact that
- 5:14management in implementing this program are telling them to back
- 5:18up into driveways to make turns. Now, remember, everybody, if you
- 5:25look at your dash, there's there's a, a sticker on there
- 5:28that says void backing up when possible.
- 5:33So why is management having us back up when we don't have to?
- 5:38If you know, if it's possible to continue to route without
- 5:40backing up, why are they directing us violate that
- 5:44standard in regards of safety? And I understand these people
- 5:49are making U turns off of three lane highways, you know, trying
- 5:53to do the crossovers, you know, going into opposing traffic,
- 5:58this just not making sense. And I hope everybody's filing a
- 6:001767 on the it's because of the fact that we don't need to
- 6:05jeopardize our lives then to save another buck.
- 6:10And that's what I said, yeah, this is just another money
- 6:14grabbed by the post office. And the hell with your safety.
- 6:18You're not concerned with that? If they try to implement it in
- 6:22our office, they're going to have a fight on their hands that
- 6:25they can't win because there's too many of us in there are too
- 6:30knowledgeable. And we will take them out in the
- 6:33routes and show them. We won't sit on their computer
- 6:36and say, oh, this is unsafe. We'll take them out there.
- 6:39We will make them go out there. And that's what everybody should
- 6:42do. If you want me to commit a
- 6:45unsafe act, then let me take you out there and demonstrate it.
- 6:51And I don't care if that's, you know, second trip time.
- 6:53I don't care if you do it on your own time.
- 6:56You need to protect yourself. Remember, you're the most
- 6:58important delivery of the day. You need to get home safely and
- 7:02you can't do that. Them implementing this rule
- 7:06optimization program in the mini route grant.
- 7:12Other than that, Kristen. Well, see, last weekend I was at
- 7:18the incarceration festival. Had an awesome time.
- 7:22My my Ruby made it through the weekend like a champ, let me
- 7:26tell ya, 35 weeks pregnant. She even did the haunted house
- 7:31exhibit with us. And then we got home Monday and
- 7:38it was about 2 1/2 hours after we got home, Ruby was out in the
- 7:41back of a canoe doing the blind canoe race that we have.
- 7:44That was leading up to the Azabo Canoe Marathon.
- 7:48That was last night and 120 mile canoe marathon between Grayling
- 7:55and Oscoda along the Azabo River.
- 7:58They kicked off at 9:00 PM last night and the 1st place winner
- 8:03crossed at about. I don't know.
- 8:05It was a little after 11:00 AM this morning, 11/15, 11:30,
- 8:08somewhere in there. So, yeah, but so, you know, both
- 8:12towns do events like leading up to the big race and everything.
- 8:16And so she with a couple of the gals for her, her work, they did
- 8:22the blind canoe race. And she's one of the very few
- 8:25that actually knows how to paddle and steer a canoe.
- 8:28So there she was paddling a canoe blindfolded.
- 8:32It was comical. I have video and then Tuesday I
- 8:38had Tuesday off just as a day recover from the weekend.
- 8:41Went back to work Wednesday and had my route inspection, which
- 8:45went fine. No issues there.
- 8:48My boss realized how well I do know my route with all the
- 8:50construction vehicles we had to go around.
- 8:52She's like, I would have not she was I would have drove right
- 8:55past that box. I'm like, yeah, I know where my
- 8:56boxes are. And then Thursday I worked,
- 9:02Friday I worked, did my mapping when I got back and then redid
- 9:05my case labels and now I'm off again until Wednesday.
- 9:12While I was in Ohio last weekend, I found out that a dear
- 9:15friend of mine that I've been friends with since I was 5-6
- 9:18years old was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, a very
- 9:23aggressive form. And unfortunately she passed
- 9:27away Wednesday afternoon. So Saturday.
- 9:31So yesterday morning afternoon I should say, I headed down to my
- 9:36parents house and there was probably a good sized group of
- 9:40about 40 of us that met up at the park and did a memorial walk
- 9:44down to her parents house and I walked back.
- 9:48I used burned up my last X day and my last annual day that I
- 9:52have available to be there for visitation and services Monday
- 9:55and Tuesday. So I am at my mom and dad's
- 9:59working remotely today, but I'm here so wasn't sure if I was
- 10:03going to make it if we were going to be done with the walk
- 10:05and everybody getting together. I'm really tired of class
- 10:08reunions like this. This is my third one in my class
- 10:12I've lost so but on that wasn't too bad.
- 10:15I'll get back and work a few days and then Friday we find out
- 10:19what day we're going to have this grandbaby and then I got to
- 10:23get ready for national. So I'm in all directions right
- 10:26now and I know many people have been trying to contact me since
- 10:31last week. I've been trying got back to
- 10:34some, some I haven't yet. I apologize.
- 10:36I like I said, I am just all over the place right now and I'm
- 10:39trying to get back to you as guys as I can when I have a
- 10:42moment. But yeah, that's how it's all
- 10:45been for me lately. I'm sure I speak for everybody
- 10:49here when we say we're sorry for your loss.
- 10:52Yes. Thank you.
- 10:53Yes, it was I tell my my third grade, my third, my second grade
- 10:59teacher. She I the last time I saw her, I
- 11:03think was at the last funeral I was at.
- 11:08But yeah, I got to visit with her.
- 11:10I didn't even know she was still around.
- 11:11So it was nice to see her from many of my classmates and and
- 11:15friends. And we'll all be leaning on each
- 11:18other some more the next couple days.
- 11:19But yeah, thank you guys. This is Michelle was definitely
- 11:24one of those type of people that always had a smile on her face
- 11:27no matter what pain she was going through herself.
- 11:30She really was a true Angel on earth that got called home and
- 11:35we're all dearly gonna miss her. All right guys, let's get into
- 11:40this. I know you got some stuff going
- 11:41on, James. I'm a little out of sorts, but I
- 11:44will put my input in as I can. So 2 weeks ago we did the
- 11:50episode on the rural route optimization and all the
- 11:53policies and procedures that management has to go through.
- 11:57And in the last two weeks we've been hearing all the stories
- 12:01from carriers out in the field. With the rural route
- 12:03optimization, you've got carriers that are being told to
- 12:08make U turns on roads that they shouldn't be making U turns on
- 12:12and places they shouldn't be making them.
- 12:14You have routing that's sending people through people's
- 12:18backyards. You have all kinds of stuff
- 12:22going on and you have managers out there that don't care to
- 12:27even go out and look at the stuff, let alone you have
- 12:32management out there. And I will use one here in
- 12:35Michigan as an example and call her out for it.
- 12:39Tina in Davisburg who isn't even contacting the carriers about
- 12:45the routing, let alone mapping with them.
- 12:49And that's a failure on management in that part.
- 12:53And management not going out and driving the route is not
- 12:57following the proper procedure for the rail route optimization.
- 13:01Here's the kicker folks. If it is unsafe to do, no matter
- 13:08what management tells you you do not do anything unsafe,
- 13:14management will turn around and make it your fault.
- 13:19Even if it's management's fault, it'll still be your fault.
- 13:24Protect yourself. 1767 PS Form 1767 Hazardous Work Condition
- 13:34Doing AU turn on a road that's 55 miles an hour where traffic
- 13:38usually does 6570 miles an hour is not safe.
- 13:43Doing U turns at a four way stop is not safe.
- 13:47Make sure you are taking care of your route and taking care of
- 13:51your customers. Have you guys heard anything
- 13:55from people getting route optimizations?
- 13:57Not in Westchester, no. But the follow up on your
- 14:01backing up, James. Yeah, it's funny that it's right
- 14:05on your dash. Even funnier is when they've
- 14:09come to carriers and say you're doing excessive backing.
- 14:13Hold it. OK?
- 14:14Excessive backing is over 50 feet and over 5 miles an hour.
- 14:17And all you're just adding to this saying, you know, we're
- 14:22glad to back up when we tell you, I'm sorry, am I getting a
- 14:26mixed message here or what? Don't understand.
- 14:29Are we supposed to avoid backing up or only when you tell us to
- 14:32back up and you determine that because you're looking at a
- 14:36computer screen and you're not on the street, Am I just that
- 14:40damn stupid? OK.
- 14:43Well, I actually went through the right optimization because
- 14:47basically every route in our office -1 was set to do this
- 14:53program. So I went ahead and sat down,
- 14:55looked at it and it almost had me doing what I did before a few
- 15:01minor changes here and there until it got to one of my
- 15:04subdivisions that is basically a giant rectangle with connecting
- 15:09parallel lines with, you know, separate streets about 5
- 15:12different streets. When it got to there, it started
- 15:16turning right on one street and these have mailboxes on both
- 15:19sides and then turning up at the street, so ignoring the boxes
- 15:23that were on the opposite side until later.
- 15:26And it just seemed like a confusing mess that didn't
- 15:31actually reduce mileage within that that neighborhood.
- 15:36It just eliminated EU turns that I do at the stop signs, which is
- 15:41OK because it's only 25 miles an hour in there.
- 15:44You can see clear as day left to right if any traffic is coming
- 15:48at you. So how to sit there?
- 15:52Put in as many restrictions as we could, went back the next
- 15:56day, looked at it again, it almost was back to the where it
- 16:02should have been where, you know, I go around the outside
- 16:05and then zigzag in each St. in the middle and two of the
- 16:10streets are fine. And then once it got to the
- 16:11third street, it started doing the same thing where it went to
- 16:13another St. did one side go back up to another street, do the
- 16:17other side, do another St. up and down that one was right and
- 16:22then finish out it. It was weird.
- 16:25So how to set the restrictions again and keep on going through
- 16:29the system trying to put in the restrictions?
- 16:32Don't U-turn here, don't left turn here, don't right turn
- 16:34here. So hopefully when I get back in
- 16:37on Monday it'll have the optimal route, which would make sense
- 16:42and be easier to case as well. But other than that it doesn't
- 16:47have me doing U turns on any major streets.
- 16:54There was a problem with every route in the office where it
- 16:58wanted us to drive through the fence around the post office to
- 17:03get to a street that's next to us instead of going out the main
- 17:08gate that we have at a four way stop.
- 17:11So management had to sit there and try to go through every
- 17:14route just to fix that for every route.
- 17:18I don't know why it won't let them restrict that way.
- 17:22Like, hey, they have to go out this way.
- 17:24It's the four way stop. It's the only gate that's open.
- 17:27You know, they're trying to force us to drive through the
- 17:29fence. It doesn't.
- 17:30It's hard for supervisors to try to fix it when there's no
- 17:36distinguishing mark on there because whenever you get in
- 17:39there, it'll show you, hey, this is a right turn.
- 17:40Hey, this is AU turn. Hey, this is the left turn.
- 17:43It didn't have that for leaving the post office.
- 17:46So somehow they're able to restrict it.
- 17:49Everyone's been, you know, going out the right gate now.
- 17:52So other than that, it's a. It's a process.
- 17:59I'll give you $1000 to drive through the fence.
- 18:01And when they write you up, you say, look, I'm just following
- 18:03the line of travel. You know, this, this is your
- 18:07system. I'm just obeying the the, you
- 18:09know, the laid out here, folks. Yeah.
- 18:13I'm only a direct order. You know I'll.
- 18:16Agree that later. Yeah, I mean, you know, if I'm
- 18:18very off the line of travel, I have to get prior approval.
- 18:21And, you know, I, I just drove through the fence.
- 18:24What the hell? It's a shortcut.
- 18:28Dumb answers I did have. 1. I did have one listener that
- 18:33reached out to me that went through the optimization and
- 18:38basically all it did to their route was take stuff that was
- 18:43normally at the end of the route and put it at the beginning,
- 18:45vice versa and only shaved off 3/10 of a mile.
- 18:53Oh, the savings on that. That'll save the post office
- 18:55$1,000,000. Yeah, that was worth the effort,
- 18:58wasn't it? What if you had?
- 19:00All exactly. At that point, you might as well
- 19:02just reject. It well.
- 19:08Yeah, none of that came through when I did my mapping.
- 19:10I haven't heard anything about my office for optimization, so I
- 19:14don't really see how they would optimize my route at all, but
- 19:18we'll see. They'll find a way.
- 19:23Oh, I'm sure they would. I wish them luck on mine.
- 19:29Yeah, me too. I would have to include a bunch
- 19:33more left turns. Kristen, I know you weren't here
- 19:37last week, but I don't know if you paid attention.
- 19:40Our office since we got moved to the Wayne facility, the SD and
- 19:44C, we are no longer going to cut or adjust the three overburdened
- 19:51routes. We're just going to add 44 extra
- 19:53miles on there and and let them do it for free, including my
- 19:58route. Oh wow, wasn't that nice.
- 20:01No, they got to pay for that extended route.
- 20:06They they can pay crazy. But I'm already overburdened so
- 20:10there's nothing left to pay. Exactly.
- 20:14Yeah, I know it. It's ridiculous.
- 20:16Yeah, and like I said, for us to get to our routes from Wayne the
- 20:22Westchester, we've got to go down a three to four lane major
- 20:25highway where the average speed is 65 to 75 miles an hour.
- 20:31And I want to see what dumbasses are going to work the day it
- 20:34snows and they put chains on an LLV.
- 20:37Get out on that highway. Yeah, that would be
- 20:43entertaining, wouldn't it? Yeah, let alone the carrier who
- 20:47now moved out to Lancaster, PA, and now has an hour and a half
- 20:51drive to the new facility. Not going to happen on Snowflake
- 20:58they're calling out. Yeah, it's just.
- 21:03They they have no comments on whatsoever.
- 21:08Do you expect management to have common sense?
- 21:12No, it's federal government that makes sense.
- 21:14They do the opposite. We know that well.
- 21:20Like Independence Day, you know when they ask how do you hide
- 21:24area 51 and and the father says you don't actually think they
- 21:29paid $30,000 for a toilet, $20,000 for a hammer, do you?
- 21:34That's how you hide it. It's amazing that you know, in
- 21:40this day and age. I could so I could so make a
- 21:45remark about former, but I won't.
- 21:51I'll be nice. This is a family show, OK?
- 21:57So the next thing that I've got on the list is your edit books.
- 22:05So you have the paper edit books that you're supposed to do all
- 22:09the changes for. But there was a video, an
- 22:12informational video on the scanner that luckily I had wait
- 22:15time to sit there and watch the video in the morning.
- 22:18And there was one on a digital edit book.
- 22:25Some offices have it, some don't.
- 22:27You could actually go in there and mark houses vacant or
- 22:33occupied on your scanner now. And the other flip side to that,
- 22:41and this has actually happened to me, if you get a change of
- 22:46address, one of those parse labels, somebody submits a
- 22:50change of address, the computer system is now marking the house
- 22:55vacant immediately. It doesn't matter if it's an
- 23:00individual forward or a family forward or a business forward,
- 23:03It's marking the address as vacant.
- 23:06I had three addresses on my mapping this month that were
- 23:09marked vacant, that had just had forwards put in, but people
- 23:13moved in right as the people left.
- 23:16They aren't vacant, but the computer system said they work
- 23:19as a forward was put in. You have to be monitoring your
- 23:23mapping. You have to be monitoring your
- 23:26edit book and you have to keep an eye on your addresses because
- 23:30this system is now automatically marking them vacant with a
- 23:35forward and our rule is 90 days. Yep.
- 23:45Yeah, yeah. It's just goes, yeah, on my side
- 23:46of all of this. I have, yeah.
- 23:49And I have someone, you know, mine is, I'm getting close to
- 23:52that 90 days. Oh, somebody new just moved in.
- 23:58Oh yeah, it's I, I. And they sell their house or
- 24:02they don't sell their house, they keep the house and they're
- 24:03going to rent it out. And they're just waiting for
- 24:05renters to come in. But you know, they for their
- 24:08mail to go live wherever they're living now.
- 24:11And then, you know, wait for that person to move in that's
- 24:14renting or, you know, wait for a renter.
- 24:17Again, we, we need somebody programming that actually
- 24:20understands the PO6O3 or his Reddit because we even have when
- 24:25you're mapping, when you're putting your park points in your
- 24:28walking distance that it brings up the threshold, you know,
- 24:32warning of, oh, this is further than 500 feet.
- 24:35We're allowed to deliver up to a half a mile away from the box.
- 24:41That's not 500 feet, that's over 2000 feet.
- 24:49Well, just for your information, James, with the forwards, the
- 24:53United States Postal Service incorporates an AI system for
- 24:57specifically for the forwards. OK, Unfortunately, their AI
- 25:02stands for assholes and idiots because those are the dumb
- 25:07bastards that are instituting this system.
- 25:10They're affecting our routes, our paychecks, our health, our
- 25:14safety, everything. I mean, yeah, you're losing
- 25:16boxes, you're losing volume. What else would you want to do
- 25:20to squeeze blood out of a rock? Yeah, you know we went see this
- 25:25is this goes right back to our conversation on the road route
- 25:28optimization. Not only do you have taking 66%
- 25:33of of carrier's money in the first mini mail survey, then the
- 25:37carrier started getting their money back.
- 25:39Now, even though our union representatives posted in the
- 25:45Q&A that management will not be able to edit our scans, quote,
- 25:48UN quote at this time, they're now allowing them to do that and
- 25:52take more money off of out of the carrier's wallets.
- 25:56You have the rural route optimization taking miles off
- 25:58the route, which is taking money out of the carrier's wallets.
- 26:01Now you have the computer system marking them vacant, which
- 26:06according to my Dr. and district manager when they went through
- 26:10my disputes that they returned to me that if a house is marked
- 26:13vacant that it does not give you the credit for that month.
- 26:18So even if you do, if you unless you fix it in the mapping before
- 26:21the end of the month, you're not going to get credit for the
- 26:24house for that month. And so your active addresses
- 26:28will be a decimal place in the mini mail survey and you'll lose
- 26:33money that way. That is why you stress mapping,
- 26:38mapping mapping every month. It doesn't matter how much you
- 26:44have to get home, how much you have to do stuff and so on and
- 26:46so forth. This is your money that they are
- 26:50taking out of your wallet. If you don't do your mapping, if
- 26:55you don't do your LTMS, if you don't protect yourself, don't
- 26:58worry about your home because you're not going to be able to
- 27:00afford it anyway. Yeah.
- 27:04I mean, it's one thing if you have vacancy or like with
- 27:07Kristen, she has the, the, the snowbirds that are up there.
- 27:11What if you have like customers where I have to go away for two
- 27:14months at a time, they're going to be vacant every time I turn
- 27:19around? Well, hold on.
- 27:21You know, you can't make this shit up.
- 27:25And like you said, James, it is a test program.
- 27:28In regards to editing the scans, don't you think that that's
- 27:33going to be in the next contract or it'll be an MOU, you know,
- 27:37understanding that we are going to be edited by management if we
- 27:42break certain thresholds, we pass benchmarks at the post
- 27:47office as predetermined, yeah. Because you're evaluating, yeah.
- 27:55And, you know, the only thing that I could see were the edit
- 27:58program for editing scans would be valuable and work the way it
- 28:07probably should be intended to work.
- 28:10And we all know management won't do it that way.
- 28:13Is it the carrier themselves accidentally hit something and
- 28:18comes up and says, hey, I accidentally hit this.
- 28:21Can we go ahead and edit this out, please?
- 28:24Or you know, I failed to put in my walking sequence and can we
- 28:30add this in, you know, something of that nature where it's the
- 28:34carrier going to say, hey, we need to edit this.
- 28:38Not management, just going in and editing Willy nilly, which
- 28:41we know that they will do. Yeah, and.
- 28:46Are you always picking on Willy and Nilly?
- 28:47Huh. They're not the only two.
- 28:51There's a little. That's just being nice.
- 28:54Hey, that. Hey, I'm just being nice, yes.
- 28:57I know. No matter how you try to slice
- 29:01it, if anybody has the ability to edit inputs that have been
- 29:08put into the system, somebody is going to abuse it.
- 29:14And that somebody is all almost always management.
- 29:19So even if it wasn't management that had the ability, but the
- 29:23carrier did, guess what? That management can print out
- 29:27your barcode for your ID, scan it, go in under your name, and
- 29:33edit the scans that way if they wanted to.
- 29:36So even if carriers had the ability just to just the
- 29:39carriers had the ability to do it, management would have a way
- 29:43to edit those scans. I don't think editing scans at
- 29:46all should be on the table with anybody in this instance.
- 29:51I don't care if I don't care if carriers are putting in 1720 box
- 29:56holders when they only had one or if carriers put in 15 stamp
- 30:00stock sales when they sold 15 stamps to one person.
- 30:04Nobody should be able to go in and edit those out.
- 30:08If there is a problem like that, management needs to do the
- 30:11proper investigation into it and if warranted, do the proper
- 30:17disciplinary procedure according to the contract.
- 30:20Because unfortunately it was management's responsibility to
- 30:24train us. And if management didn't
- 30:26properly train us, that's a failure on management and that
- 30:30evaluation should go up by those extra scans that that carrier
- 30:32put in. Amen.
- 30:35And you're right. It it, it's just like the, the
- 30:38evaluated system. It's the same way you know, when
- 30:41you, you have your drop day coming up, if there's a way of
- 30:44taking advantage of the system, people will find it.
- 30:47Not just rural carriers, but city carriers, clerk custodians,
- 30:52everybody always looks for a way to beat the system.
- 30:55And if there's a way to manipulate the system and save
- 30:57the post office money, trust me, management will utilize it.
- 31:03And if they won't, if they don't utilize it, they'll be directed
- 31:07from those above to do it. I just said this in the chat
- 31:13because one of our listeners said carrier should be able to
- 31:16edit the scans themselves on the scanners.
- 31:17They said it should only be on the original scanner for the
- 31:20carrier if they're going to do that.
- 31:22So if your scanner dies and you have to use a different scanner
- 31:25or your scanner breaks, you have to use a different scanner.
- 31:27You can't edit the scans that you put in on that original
- 31:30scanner and PIN numbers for it. Like somebody said in the
- 31:36comments, somebody could have access to those numbers and
- 31:40cheat. There are management people out
- 31:42there that will get those PIN numbers from somebody even if
- 31:45it's the carrier themselves to do the edit themselves.
- 31:49Instead you have to always think what is a way management will
- 31:56use this against carriers? How will management turn around
- 32:03and usurp the system? Just like them doing napping
- 32:09with the craft. Well, we've, we've seen it in,
- 32:12in payroll where they've gone in and edit 4240 sheets.
- 32:16We've we've seen it where they, they do the, the green cards on
- 32:19the Subs, they're helping out saying, oh, there's too many
- 32:22hours on the route that you helped out.
- 32:24I have to cut, cut an hour and a half or two hours off of your
- 32:26time. Bullshit.
- 32:28I worked it. I'm entitled to it.
- 32:30I mean, you know, if there's a way to save up a dime, I'll find
- 32:36it. And they will manipulate the
- 32:39system to their advantage. That's.
- 32:42Why we have the wreck system? This is why we have the rule
- 32:45route Optimization program. This is why we're having this
- 32:48test program with the scanners in regards to editing scans.
- 32:53You think it's going to stop just on those seven or eight
- 32:55scans they have listed? No, they're going to put down
- 33:00every damn scan in there. Be in there manipulating your
- 33:03load times. Hour input time, 22 minute load
- 33:09time. I've heard an, I've heard an A
- 33:11poom out there that is telling carriers they have 15 minutes to
- 33:16load anything over 15 minutes, they're getting discipline.
- 33:22Well, unfortunately, now that you've threatened discipline,
- 33:24that's harassment in the office. That is a hostile work
- 33:28environment. Thirdly, that is not following
- 33:31due process in the disciplinary procedures in our contract.
- 33:35And on top of that, it takes what it takes to load a truck.
- 33:39I can tell you my truck is the very first one in the row of
- 33:42trucks in my office and it takes me 20 minutes to load my truck,
- 33:48not to mention the carrier all the way down at the end. 12
- 33:50trucks down has to walk all the way down there with their
- 33:54parcels going over bumpy terrain, trying not to knock
- 33:57them off the top of their stack of of packages and stuff like
- 34:00that. But they're going to be 30
- 34:03minutes just walking down there, pushing the cart down and back
- 34:08with loading. So these people, I mean, I
- 34:14shouldn't even call them people the way they treat us.
- 34:16These animals at the top are looking at spreadsheets and bell
- 34:21curves and not actually looking at the human factor.
- 34:26And that is the problem. Everybody above us from above,
- 34:31the carriers, 2O4BS included, aren't looking at the human
- 34:36factor. There is no humanity in
- 34:41management anymore. Yeah, I've been saying that for
- 34:46a while. They've completely removed the
- 34:49humanity out of working at all. And that's why we need a
- 34:55stronger union to start making them realize you need to treat
- 34:59us better or we're going to start making you all pay.
- 35:01We're going to start making these grievances come out with a
- 35:04pay. And you're not going to like
- 35:06that because now it's going to be attached to your file and
- 35:09your files going to show, hey, you know, your station had to
- 35:12pay out of over $1,000,000 grievances between city clerks
- 35:16and rule. Oh, yeah, you're not going to
- 35:18get that promotion because it's probably just going to cost us
- 35:21more of you or over a couple of different offices.
- 35:25We need to start fighting back. We need to have a fighting
- 35:28union, not one that just praises everything that the post office
- 35:33does. Oh, are are you saying that we
- 35:38shouldn't agree with Lewis in regards to his, you know,
- 35:43delivering for America plan or that you know, it it the SD and
- 35:47CS are, you know, monumental failure, Not you're not creating
- 35:54dissension here, are you toasty? Come on now.
- 35:57We're we're all in this together, all the all in this
- 36:01together. Constructive criticism.
- 36:03Constructive criticism. Sounded like whining to me.
- 36:09Well, that's. Just.
- 36:11Continuing on with the management stuff, I have passed
- 36:15on to the concerned parties in the area, but I have actually
- 36:21heard of several offices and I've contacted all the DRS in
- 36:25those regions on this, that they're still shutting off the
- 36:30AC to force carriers out, including not only in the AM to
- 36:35force them out to the street in the AM, but they're actually
- 36:38shutting them off about 30 minutes before carriers return
- 36:42to the office. So that e-mail from Buffalo
- 36:49several years ago, three years ago, occurring today, is still
- 36:55happening today. And it is affecting not only
- 36:57rural but city clerks, janitors, all the unions across the board,
- 37:05because these people have to work in these offices during
- 37:09those conditions that they're trying to force these carriers
- 37:13out the door. The clerks have to be in there
- 37:16sorting the mail and the packages for the carriers.
- 37:21The janitors are starting their days of cleaning and getting
- 37:24stuff organized and set up the way that they're supposed to be
- 37:27doing maintenance Staffs and they're changing light bulbs and
- 37:30things like that, especially those guys up on ladders because
- 37:33heat rises. It is an unsafe environment for
- 37:37everybody that is on that work room floor when the AC and the
- 37:41fans are off. And I've heard of offices that
- 37:44choose not to fix the AC in the work room floor area just for
- 37:48that very reason. Maybe it could be in an office
- 37:52like mine, which is the complete opposite and it's like a meat
- 37:55locker in there. I'd work there.
- 37:59I'm not. Complaining one bit, let me tell
- 38:01you. But yeah, it's the point.
- 38:03You're you're waiting around for clerk's toss packages and you're
- 38:06getting cold. You're like, I guess I'll go
- 38:08outside and warm up. Osha's already investigating
- 38:12them for carrier and supervisor deaths out in the LL VS right
- 38:17now. So everybody, if they are
- 38:20shutting off the AC and the fans in your office contact OSHA.
- 38:27That is a safety hazard. 803 two one OSHA and I will tell you
- 38:36this, there are some offices where it is not the local
- 38:39management but district management that has control over
- 38:44the thermostats somehow. Yeah, I've heard that too.
- 38:51Yeah, you could draw it remotely with a computer or a cell phone,
- 38:56just like your house. Yeah.
- 38:58You can also submit it online to OSHA and they will actually get
- 39:05back with you. OSHA actually does respond
- 39:08rather quickly to OSHA complaints.
- 39:12One of the few government agencies that does really
- 39:14quickly. I will tell you that much.
- 39:20And hopefully with maybe enough, they will finally come down on
- 39:28them with more than just a six figure slap on the wrist.
- 39:34Maybe they'll finally start investigating who's actually
- 39:38causing this and maybe 'cause actual change to happen.
- 39:43We can hope. Probably won't, but we can hope.
- 39:47If not, you should still also be filing a 1767 Unsafe Work
- 39:51environment and an 8191 grievance because you need to
- 39:57take care of yourself, your fellow carriers, your brothers
- 40:02and sisters of other crafts. Stand up to tyranny.
- 40:09Stand up to violations of health and safety.
- 40:12Stand up to violations of our contract and working rules.
- 40:18It's time to stand up all together.
- 40:24And pause. I need to take a breath.
- 40:29I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I need to take a breath because I'm
- 40:33getting upset because I do not like seeing our carriers or our
- 40:37brothers and sisters and other crash treated this way.
- 40:40It really gets under my skin that right now the only thing I
- 40:44can do is talk about it on a podcast and hopefully I can
- 40:48engage enough people to stand up to actually incite change within
- 40:53the Postal Service. By the craft doing what the
- 40:56craft is supposed to be doing, which is protecting our own and
- 41:01getting results. Not slaps on the wrist.
- 41:05Not settling for language. Actual results that make our
- 41:09working conditions actually livable.
- 41:13Oh, you know, in in honor of being Sunday, I have to bring up
- 41:17the fact that I'm seeing more and more posts where carriers
- 41:22are working Amazon Sundays and they're being brought in at
- 41:2510:00 AM and having a fit. They are livid.
- 41:29Started my area a while ago and now it seems to be almost a
- 41:33nationwide occurrence. Coming in at 10:00 AM to run
- 41:36Amazon. Who the hell do we work for?
- 41:39The post office or Amazon? So is the post office standing
- 41:43up for, you know, for the carriers?
- 41:46It's not even just Amazon, it's also the clerks that are getting
- 41:49affected by it too. You know they have to come in
- 41:51later. I remember when we start when we
- 41:56were working Amazon Sundays in my office when I hate using this
- 42:00term, but when I was a sub, you know, we would come in at 8:00
- 42:06and the Amazon would have been there by 6:30 at the in the
- 42:10morning and the clerks would have everything pretty much
- 42:13sorted except maybe the last half a pallet by the time we got
- 42:18there. And the interesting thing with
- 42:22the 10 AM start for me is that these carriers are doing 789
- 42:28hours and they're starting, they're leaving out of the
- 42:31office at 11:00 in the morning, noon when it's the hottest time
- 42:35of the day. Noon to 3:00 PM is the hottest
- 42:37time of the day. And they're just starting their
- 42:40routes, you know, So it's stupid.
- 42:47It's just, it's, it just befuddles the mind that, you
- 42:53know, you sit there and say, hold it.
- 42:55We have the equipment, we have the personnel, we have the
- 42:58resources. We're being dictated by Amazon
- 43:02to do this. I, I'm sorry, I, I just, I don't
- 43:07understand that. Like I said, it went back years
- 43:09ago when Margaret was our postmaster general and I brought
- 43:12up the fact that we were giving away money to Amazon and setting
- 43:16them up to succeed. Because, you know, once they get
- 43:21found that there was a market, there's a, a market share out
- 43:24there for them to capitalize on and manipulate.
- 43:29Wow, Amazon just blew our doors off, didn't it?
- 43:33And for five years without a mail count, he handled Amazon or
- 43:38Amazon. And as they build up their
- 43:40resources, distribution centers and contractors, they, you know,
- 43:44they kind of, you know, weaned us off of it and still can't do
- 43:47it without us. So why are we letting them
- 43:52dictate the terms? This your deliver for America.
- 44:01Program. Louis.
- 44:02Well, like Monday, I had heard. From one of the carriers of my
- 44:05office on Monday, they got like 14, yeah, like 14 skids of
- 44:12Amazon for the my thick throat and an ox office, you know?
- 44:21And well we got a highway contract route too, so 8 routes
- 44:25for rural side and three sitting.
- 44:27And you know we had roughly about 14 skids of Amazon that
- 44:33came in on Monday. And our pool made a directive to
- 44:38management to hold back three AP CS from the post office of
- 44:44parcels so all the Amazon would go out.
- 44:48Is that considered failure to delivering mail?
- 44:53Mm hmm yeah I hold hold back three AP CS of post office
- 44:58packages so all of the Amazon could go out.
- 45:02You brought up an interesting point because you have way
- 45:05contractors now. Do they come in on Sunday and
- 45:08deliver? No, we don't have Sunday
- 45:10delivery in my office. OK, if anybody does, let me know
- 45:14if you have a highway contractor routes in your office and Amazon
- 45:20Sunday comes in because in our office the rural carriers take
- 45:23out the highway contractors and I know the highway contractor,
- 45:28you know personally and she said, well, not paid for
- 45:32Sundays. I said, well, why didn't you put
- 45:33it in for the bin? She goes, we tried, but they
- 45:35won't let us know. The post office is encumbering
- 45:39themselves with more expense by delivering packages for routes
- 45:44that are not rural or city routes.
- 45:47So it's just an added expense to me that that's just common sense
- 45:51that you're a highway contractor.
- 45:53Either you come in on Sunday or you lose your your contract.
- 45:57Yeah, our one highway contractor has he's been on that route for
- 46:01over 40 years. And yeah, his Amazon's just
- 46:05ridiculous for the size of his route.
- 46:10He more, more, more times than not actually has someone to come
- 46:13in and split the route with him every day.
- 46:18Well, that that's just the decision to do that.
- 46:21Yeah, that absolutely is. And you know, he pays them and
- 46:24supplies them a vehicle too. But at the same time, yeah, the,
- 46:29it's as far as I know, my old office, we didn't have highway
- 46:33contracts, so I couldn't say when it came to to how Amazon
- 46:38Sundays are done for Hwy. contract routes.
- 46:41But yeah, we don't have the Sunday in my office right now,
- 46:45so thank goodness. Not that it matters to me
- 46:48anymore, but it's still, it just makes Monday suck even more.
- 46:52But we manage it. Well, yeah.
- 46:58And this, this is exasperated by us at Westchester office being
- 47:01moved to this SD and C in Wayne, because the past two Sundays
- 47:07they've actually asked for volunteers from the regulars
- 47:11full craft to help on parcel deliveries.
- 47:14And you know what they're actually doing?
- 47:17We're getting the regular to take the rule routes out and
- 47:19they're getting the, the RC as to take out city routes.
- 47:23Of course, I, I hope nobody mentioned to him about filing a
- 47:29grievance about that, that I would.
- 47:31But you know, I hope somebody didn't do that.
- 47:38Somebody just said out loud, well, if it was me.
- 47:46But somebody who's not in the office right now to do that?
- 47:51I'm sure that'll get edited out. Hope not leave it in there all
- 47:58right? Just because I'm not in the
- 47:59office doesn't mean I can't be of use.
- 48:03Exactly. And it doesn't mean we aren't
- 48:06here to help the craft as much as we can, even when we're not
- 48:09in the office. So the last topic that I have is
- 48:17a big one that can actually be beneficial to us, and that is
- 48:24the top agents of the United States Postal Service.
- 48:28The Board of Governors has just had two people nominated for the
- 48:33Board of Governors, Val Demings and William Zoller by Joe Biden.
- 48:37President Biden nominated them to fill vacancies on the Board
- 48:41of Governors. And it is only when we have a
- 48:44full Board of Governors that we have the ability to elect,
- 48:47oversee, or remove the Postmaster General.
- 48:51We have to have a full board to be able to elect or remove the
- 48:55Postmaster General. So this is the first step in a
- 48:58possibility of removing Louis de Joy from Postmaster General
- 49:03position if the Board of Governors so chooses.
- 49:06So with the push going on right now and all the senators calling
- 49:11for his removal, this is the first step in that direction.
- 49:17But it's also possible that they may just turn around and push it
- 49:21off to the next election where the person who appointed him
- 49:25Postmaster General is running for re election to the office.
- 49:32What are your guys's thoughts? Do you think that we have a
- 49:35chance that the Board of Governors may actually take
- 49:38action that will protect the carriers?
- 49:40Or do you think it'll be more of the same?
- 49:42Kick the can down the road not to get into too much politics.
- 49:47After his last two sessions before the House and the Senate,
- 49:55a lot of them are angry because, I mean, I mean, my
- 49:59representatives, one of the House Oversight Committee men,
- 50:02And he said that, you know, and during his interview with Dejoy
- 50:08that he didn't realize that a good half of his job would be
- 50:13taking complaints about the post office or from postal employees.
- 50:18He's like, he thought he was going to be helping more
- 50:20veterans and writing bills and everything like that.
- 50:22And he's handling a lot of stuff when it comes to the post
- 50:24office. So a lot of these
- 50:27representatives, a lot of these senators, you know, they're
- 50:30upset. And especially with Georgia,
- 50:32with the failure in Arizona, with the SNDCS, you know,
- 50:36there's, there's all of these people that are upset calling
- 50:40their representatives, calling their senators who are then tied
- 50:44up with that instead of, you know, campaigning or doing other
- 50:46stuff. They're trying to get these
- 50:47things resolved for their constituents so they can get the
- 50:50votes and they're having to spend time on that.
- 50:53So now they're kind of upset that everything's going awry and
- 50:57that there's, you know, all his money being dumped into these
- 51:00SMDC's and they're failing. They're failing at scams.
- 51:05They're failing at getting the mail through.
- 51:07It's taking, you know, what usually used to take three days
- 51:11is taking weeks now. I mean, James, you experienced
- 51:14that with your Express, but you know, you know that I think
- 51:19there's going to be a push. I don't know how you know, what
- 51:25the political climate that we're in right now if they're going to
- 51:27do it before or after the election, considering that we do
- 51:31handle mail in ballots as well. So it's unfortunately possibly
- 51:37going to come down to a game of politics, which unfortunately we
- 51:41get stuck in the middle of all that junk.
- 51:44And I don't know, we'll, we'll see how it plays out, but I'm
- 51:50going to err on the side of it's going to be a kick the can down
- 51:53the road. Yeah, that's my gut.
- 51:58Feeling, yeah, I agree. I think it's going to be a kick
- 52:01the can. Yeah, it's easier to go with the
- 52:03flow than it is a change direction.
- 52:05Just like our union, you know, it's easier to go with the flow
- 52:08than, you know, take a chance on a new direction.
- 52:12So, I mean, you know, apathy is the the greatest evil of our
- 52:17time. You know, as far as the union's
- 52:19concerned, as far as politics and and voters are concerned.
- 52:23I mean, really people are are sick and tired of all the
- 52:27commercials, the literature and everything else and it's
- 52:29carriers. We're tired of all the damn
- 52:32Flyers and political Flyers that we have to deliver that we may
- 52:36or may not be getting credit for.
- 52:38But the fact of the matter is that these people don't run on
- 52:43basis of what they have accomplished.
- 52:46They run on, you know, the fear factor of what the other guy
- 52:49will do versus what I have done or in many cases what I haven't
- 52:54done. I mean, I, I remember an
- 52:57interview where a certain vice president was interviewed about
- 53:01being at the border and turned around and answered the question
- 53:05four different ways before saying, well, I haven't been to
- 53:08Europe either. What the, what the Hell's that
- 53:12got to do with going to the border?
- 53:15I mean, you know, it's, it's just ludicrous in regards to how
- 53:19politicians carry themselves, how they behave towards each
- 53:23other. Said run on your own strengths,
- 53:26not on your your opponent's weaknesses.
- 53:29Exactly. Have nothing to offer to you
- 53:34know at at the table. Step away from the table.
- 53:39You know, it's, it's funny to me that we have all these issues
- 53:46going on across the country with the Postal Service.
- 53:50We have all these senators that are sitting there and getting
- 53:53these phone calls, getting carriers, clerks, mail handlers
- 53:59and all these people calling them saying help me, help me,
- 54:03help me. And it's up to the Board of
- 54:07Governors to be able to actually make the changes at the top that
- 54:12need to happen. It's up to the Board of
- 54:13Governors to put the ruling down on management.
- 54:19They don't not only have the Postmaster General authority,
- 54:23they could actually as a Board of Governors, fire other
- 54:28managers too, because they are technically the ones in charge
- 54:33of the Postal Service above the Postmaster General.
- 54:37And the fact that we are sitting here every week talking about
- 54:43the failures of the Postal Service to help our carriers,
- 54:47the failure of them to do that. But you have so many people out
- 54:53there who aren't paying attention to what's happening
- 54:56now. They are so stuck on what
- 54:59happened in the past. They haven't seen where the
- 55:02future is going. They're so stuck in this was the
- 55:06way it was. This happened back then.
- 55:08So I'm going to use that as my stomping ground point as to why
- 55:11I'm not going to vote this way, as to why I'm not going to do
- 55:14this. Instead of actually seeing how
- 55:18things have changed, how opinions have changed, how ways
- 55:22things work have changed. You have people in our current
- 55:27national office that haven't touched a route in 30 years, and
- 55:34yet they're trying to tell us that it's OK that management's
- 55:40doing this because it's just a test, It's not going to affect
- 55:43your evaluation. Yet they are so out of touch
- 55:52with the carriers on the ground because they don't want to
- 55:58listen to the carriers on the ground, that even the carriers
- 56:05on the ground pulling their dues won't get their attention.
- 56:11Let me ask you a question, James at all everybody.
- 56:15If you're the the head of a corporation like the post
- 56:18office, any corporation and you're sitting around with your
- 56:23management team and you're looking for ways to cut cost.
- 56:27One of the ways you would do that is you would run a test
- 56:30program or a pilot program, see if you could create more
- 56:34efficiency to cut down on expenses or whether or not, you
- 56:39know, that program itself would, you know, illustrate areas of
- 56:43Ave. of, of, of income that could be, you know, mitigated
- 56:49through introducing these tests and say, oh, you know, if we do
- 56:55this, we might be able to increase by 1.2 percent, 1.8%.
- 57:01The reason they do these tests is because they already know
- 57:04beforehand that if they can get this pushed through, shove down
- 57:10their throats, that they will be able to save money.
- 57:14That's all this rule route optimization programs about.
- 57:17Like I said, it's about saving buck on our backs.
- 57:24Don't believe for one second the post office hasn't examined
- 57:27this. They had some some engineer like
- 57:29Doctor Miracle turn around and say where can we save more
- 57:32money? And this guy came up with this
- 57:34program as a pilot or a test program and said, let's see what
- 57:40we can do here and how much it would optimize and save us, you
- 57:45know, X amount of dollars over the course of time.
- 57:48Bill, do you want the Walmart answer or do you want the
- 57:51logical answer? Oh give me to Walmart 1st.
- 57:55OK, you replace all the low level employees with computers,
- 58:01self checkout. You replace them with robots
- 58:04that stock shelves. You replace the low level
- 58:07minimum wage employees with that.
- 58:09The lowest paid employees, you replace them with that and
- 58:11you'll save millions and millions and millions of
- 58:13dollars. Now on the other hand, if you go
- 58:16the logical route like UPS did after they signed the contract
- 58:20with their the Teamsters and they found out how are we going
- 58:26to save the money that we're now spending with this new contract.
- 58:30They decided to turn around and cut middle management.
- 58:37Now if the postal. Service.
- 58:39If the Postal Service turned around and cut out 10,000 middle
- 58:44management jobs with their 15% raise increases that they just
- 58:50got not too long ago and another 5% coming in the next year, they
- 58:56could save more than what they're saving with the Rural
- 58:59Route Optimization program. 10,000 managers is all it would
- 59:06take to save the amount of money they're taking from rural
- 59:09carriers with the Rural Route Optimization program.
- 59:16Let's see 10,000 * 178. So they they'd only save $117
- 59:26million. They got rid of 10,000 managers.
- 59:30Yes. And the rural route
- 59:31optimization, rural route optimization program, I've
- 59:35estimated would save about $84 million.
- 59:41Let's fire management. Instead, let's hire more
- 59:45management and give them raises. What was it, 16% what I seen
- 59:51rolling around? 1515 and then another 5 coming.
- 59:59Or what end value contributions? I.
- 1:00:04Don't. Meanwhile, the ones of us
- 1:00:05actually doing the hard work are the ones that are suffering.
- 1:00:09And don't forget, if management runs a route, they actually get
- 1:00:12paid for the route they run on an hourly basis on top of their
- 1:00:17salary as management. Yep.
- 1:00:22So that's that's the most idiotic thing coming down from
- 1:00:29management is let's hire more managers.
- 1:00:32We can't afford we can't afford to pay our carriers, but let's
- 1:00:35hire more managers. Yeah, 'cause that'll get the
- 1:00:39meal delivered. So that's all I had for today.
- 1:00:43Anybody have anything else? I'm good.
- 1:00:52Do we want to talk about the interim route adjustments?
- 1:00:58The interim. You just, you just want to zip
- 1:01:01James off, don't you? So.
- 1:01:05Just this is just my experience with it because this is still
- 1:01:08pretty new. So when I did my mapping this
- 1:01:11week on Tuesday after doing the DPM, you have to wait for the
- 1:01:17LTM, you know. So I went and did my markups,
- 1:01:20did everything like that, went back, LTM was ready to go.
- 1:01:24After the LTM is finished, once you're done, you know, checking
- 1:01:28everything, make sure your stop signs are there, traffic lights,
- 1:01:31railroad crossings, everything at the end of it, right before
- 1:01:35you get to the print out page that has your mileage, your you
- 1:01:39know, everything that's on page one of your 4241 and basically
- 1:01:43and your 4003 year line of travel with the right hand left
- 1:01:47turn, everything like that. It'll actually show you like we
- 1:01:52used to see on the 4003 with your bank time and it'll show
- 1:01:56you on the left side last evaluation and it shows you the
- 1:02:00date. Mine was from April from the
- 1:02:02mini mail survey. And then coming to, you know,
- 1:02:06last week, this past week, whenever I updated my mapping,
- 1:02:10it's all that I had the extra 3 dismounts that I've had for, you
- 1:02:13know, a month or two now and the extra boxes, the extra dismount
- 1:02:18distance, everything like that. And it's showing me going from
- 1:02:2058 hours and 21 minutes to 61 hours and 10 minutes.
- 1:02:25So it's coming. I'm not sure if it's launched
- 1:02:29fully yet, but in our office. Here it hasn't.
- 1:02:33OK. Yeah.
- 1:02:33In our office, we were able to see after you do your LTM, it'll
- 1:02:37actually run it through the numbers, basically just anything
- 1:02:42that's on page one of your 4241 AM.
- 1:02:45So just everything that's calculated for your route, it
- 1:02:47won't do anything. It doesn't look like it does
- 1:02:50anything, at least for, you know, if you had an increase in
- 1:02:53packages, increase in mail volume, anything that's from
- 1:02:57pages two and three, your load times, your end of shift duties.
- 1:03:02But it will calculate at least the base information from your
- 1:03:06route. That's interesting.
- 1:03:08Yeah. I was looking to see if there
- 1:03:11was anything like that yet in my office when I did my mapping on
- 1:03:15Friday, but there wasn't so I know it's not across the board
- 1:03:18yet. OK.
- 1:03:20Well, hopefully it's coming and now that it's been a year and a
- 1:03:23half and we're into our almost fourth mini mail survey.
- 1:03:28So hopefully we can get it there.
- 1:03:30Hopefully this works out. It it to me it looks pretty
- 1:03:33accurate from the numbers that I put into.
- 1:03:37Basically what I did is copied and pasted all the numbers from
- 1:03:40the 4241 M and just adjusted as I went through.
- 1:03:45That's how I've been able to estimate my evaluations usually,
- 1:03:49and it looks like it's just everything that's on that first
- 1:03:51page, so. Yeah, it So the LTM takes your
- 1:03:58last mini mail survey and only changes the mileage, the box
- 1:04:04count, etcetera in that section. The sections that only the LTM
- 1:04:10deals with, the BDPM and LTM deal with.
- 1:04:13That's it. It does not change your mail
- 1:04:15volume, does not change your walking distances or it does
- 1:04:19change your walking distance. My bad.
- 1:04:21For authorized dismounts. Only for dismounts and also it
- 1:04:26also will change it if you gain or lose.
- 1:04:31Lose blue boxes as well, those will also be changed.
- 1:04:34So anything done in your DPM and LTM are the only things that
- 1:04:38change in the interim adjustment.
- 1:04:41Everything else comes from the mini mail survey evaluation that
- 1:04:45you had. It does not have the ability to
- 1:04:48change anything else at this point.
- 1:04:51However, again, with management, you know, at some point they're
- 1:04:57thinking maybe we can do interim adjustments that involve all the
- 1:05:01other pieces except for the mini mail survey numbers.
- 1:05:05You know, they're thinking about it.
- 1:05:09Hopefully that doesn't happen because then that would
- 1:05:12basically make us pretty much hourly carriers.
- 1:05:16Yeah. And I have seen chatter of
- 1:05:19management telling carriers that eventually, you know, their
- 1:05:23evaluations could change every pay period with this program,
- 1:05:28which I remember when Rex was first talked about coming out,
- 1:05:31that's how it sounded like it. But it possibly could be prior
- 1:05:36to anything. But I really hope that's not the
- 1:05:39case. Then that.
- 1:05:43Would be. That's almost a step closer into
- 1:05:47being hourly. Step closer to being city, which
- 1:05:50is what management wants us to be, is just like city. 8 hour
- 1:05:54days and they can give us pivots overtime and all that stuff
- 1:05:58because they want to treat city carriers and rural carriers the
- 1:06:01same. Because that means less training
- 1:06:04for management to have to take means less things management has
- 1:06:08to know. Isn't that ironic that several
- 1:06:11years ago they did a pilot program and with the city
- 1:06:14carriers to see if they wanted to go to an evaluated system and
- 1:06:19the city carriers blew it out of the water because they, they
- 1:06:23want to get paid for, you know, for every hour they work versus
- 1:06:26US. We, oh, no, we don't want no
- 1:06:28pivots. We don't want you forcing us to
- 1:06:31volunteer or anything. No, we like our evaluated
- 1:06:34system. That's what makes us the, you
- 1:06:36know, the most cost efficient body of workers in the Postal
- 1:06:41Service. And the biggest benefit was
- 1:06:44being able to get off of work before your evaluation ended.
- 1:06:49Yeah, remember when? They don't understand that.
- 1:06:53I remember when I was on the fire department and I would go
- 1:06:56run calls after I was done working at the post office.
- 1:06:59So I was still being paid by the post office for the hours of my
- 1:07:03evaluation while running calls for the fire department because
- 1:07:07I was under my evaluation. It's all right.
- 1:07:10We had ADR working at a Firehouse as as the captain
- 1:07:15while being the Dr. full time. And yeah, oh, sorry, he got
- 1:07:19removed. That was a funny way you weren't
- 1:07:22allowed to do why you couldn't call this guy before 10:00 AM
- 1:07:25because he wasn't up yet from working the night shift at the
- 1:07:30Firehouse. Are you kidding me?
- 1:07:34And the thing of it is, it was common knowledge.
- 1:07:37All right, guys, time to wind this down.
- 1:07:40Yep, sure. Hey.
- 1:07:43All right, everyone, just we're about a month away from the next
- 1:07:48mini mail survey. Make sure that you get your
- 1:07:51mapping done. Check your edit books.
- 1:07:53Make sure everything go through your entire mapping and with
- 1:07:57your edit book to make sure everything's open.
- 1:07:59That needs to be open. Anything that's closed needs to
- 1:08:01be closed. Make sure you put all your stop
- 1:08:05signs. Make sure check all traffic
- 1:08:06lights, especially if you're doing the roll route
- 1:08:10optimization and they're changing your line of travel,
- 1:08:12you're going to have to do that all over again.
- 1:08:15Make sure that all your walk distances in office, if you are
- 1:08:19a withdrawal office are correct. Make sure to remeasure it.
- 1:08:23Always, always remeasure it. And then make sure that you're
- 1:08:27authorized dismounts, anything, that anything extra that you
- 1:08:30have, make sure everything is correct because this is the time
- 1:08:34right before mini meal survey, before the system pulls all the
- 1:08:37data that it's going to calculate off of.
- 1:08:40This is when you're going to have to make sure everything is
- 1:08:43on point, all the i's dotted, all the T's crossed.
- 1:08:47Make sure you do it. It is your pay.
- 1:08:50As Bill has said before. If you don't put it in the
- 1:08:52system, you don't put in the scanner, you don't put in your
- 1:08:54mapping, it doesn't go in your wallet.
- 1:08:57This is your money. You work hard for it.
- 1:09:00You work in severe weather for IT.
- 1:09:02You break your back delivering Kitty litter and dog food.
- 1:09:05Don't give them a single penny back that you are.
- 1:09:10You were supposed to get credit for James.
- 1:09:13James. You know, it's amazing to try
- 1:09:19and think of what is management going to abuse carriers with.
- 1:09:25We shouldn't have to have that mentality.
- 1:09:28We shouldn't have to wonder how is management going to screw us
- 1:09:31over this week? What's the flavor of the week
- 1:09:34this week? Is it failure to follow
- 1:09:36directions? Is it benchmarking the number of
- 1:09:40inputs that you put in your scanner?
- 1:09:42Is it the mileage on your route? Is it how fast you get out of
- 1:09:46the office, load your truck sometimes Flavor of the day.
- 1:09:50Yeah. And we shouldn't be thinking
- 1:09:54about this rural carriers right now.
- 1:09:58Well, not just even rural carriers.
- 1:10:00All carriers are so overstressed.
- 1:10:04With the micromanagement going on in the Postal Service, we
- 1:10:09shouldn't be this stressed. We should be able to come in, do
- 1:10:14our job efficiently and effectively, go home at the end
- 1:10:17of the day and get paid on payday.
- 1:10:21And even that's not happening. Management's failing at the even
- 1:10:24the most basic functions of management, and yet here we are
- 1:10:32dealing with more managerial problems, more managerial
- 1:10:35failures, more managerial harassment, all because people
- 1:10:42at the top aren't willing to stand up against it and fight
- 1:10:49viciously and effectively to stop it from happening.
- 1:10:57It's time for us carriers to get together.
- 1:11:01We have our National Convention coming up.
- 1:11:03This is probably one of the most contested national conventions
- 1:11:07in a little while for a lot of positions, and it's time for
- 1:11:12every single one of us to go there.
- 1:11:15Stand up for the craft, stand up for our brothers and sisters and
- 1:11:22show management and union national officers that when the
- 1:11:27Royal Craft stands up, we stand together because we're all in
- 1:11:32this together. Bill, well, we kind of go off of
- 1:11:38James in regard to micromanaging.
- 1:11:43I remember back in the day of Ben Franklin and we would sit
- 1:11:47around and have some ale, maybe some grog if we we couldn't
- 1:11:51afford it. But the fact of the matter is
- 1:11:54it's real simple. You get us the mail, we case it
- 1:11:58up, we take it out, we deliver it.
- 1:12:00You provide us with the materials that we require to do
- 1:12:06the job. Now, every carrier has specific
- 1:12:09little things that what they do in different fashions.
- 1:12:12But the thing of it is, it's real simple.
- 1:12:14Get us the mail, this the packages in a timely fashion.
- 1:12:19Give us the support we need. If we are falling down on the
- 1:12:22job in some aspect, talk to us so we can make the corrective
- 1:12:27action. Don't come in and just hammer us
- 1:12:30with discipline. Work with us.
- 1:12:33This is a working relationship. It's not like a married
- 1:12:37relationship like was brought up at the caucuses last year.
- 1:12:40But the thing of it is that this is a relationship.
- 1:12:43You respect me, I respect you. We work together for a common
- 1:12:47goal. And since we're the ones aren't
- 1:12:50that are the face of the post office, you need to treat us
- 1:12:54with a little more respect as we are going out into the public.
- 1:12:57And we're conveying that confidence that we have in the
- 1:13:00post office, in the management, in the system.
- 1:13:04We can't do that. And the customers see that and
- 1:13:09the customers know it because you know, the failures of
- 1:13:11delivery for any aspect, whether it be a parcel, certified letter
- 1:13:15or whatever, hold mail, forward e-mail.
- 1:13:19All you have to do is support us and work together.
- 1:13:24But that doesn't seem to be the mindset of the current postal
- 1:13:28management. It's hammer, hammer, hammer,
- 1:13:31hammer, hammer. You know what, When you keep
- 1:13:34hammering like this, somebody's going to snap.
- 1:13:38And I don't want to bring up, you know, situations that have
- 1:13:41occurred in the past, but this is what we're going towards.
- 1:13:44This is what's gearing up because of the fact that you
- 1:13:48treat carriers like dirt or less than human in their eyes.
- 1:13:54And we can be replaced at the moment's notice, which is
- 1:13:57surprising because you have so many offices out there.
- 1:14:00They can't hire carriers and retain carriers.
- 1:14:06But you know what you can retain piece of shit management.
- 1:14:10But don't know the contract, don't know the six O 3, don't
- 1:14:13know the Elm, don't know the Arcam, don't know Jack's shit.
- 1:14:19But as long as they follow the orders of those above them,
- 1:14:23maintain their jobs, as long as they get their reports done in a
- 1:14:26timely fashion every day, their jobs are secure.
- 1:14:31As long as they turn around and maintain the hostile work
- 1:14:35environment and threaten you. When I heard of a poom saying
- 1:14:41you haven't fulfilled necessary I what you call I ion eyes or
- 1:14:49Pdis for last month. Hold it.
- 1:14:51You're benchmarking Pdis now? What the hell is going on?
- 1:14:57Shouldn't you be correcting the action of these carriers instead
- 1:15:01of disciplining? Remember it is supposed to be a
- 1:15:05corrective action, not a disciplinary action.
- 1:15:09They forgot that and that's why they lose most of their
- 1:15:12grievances. Can only hope for the best with
- 1:15:17the National Convention coming up and that is new membership
- 1:15:21with a new perspective, with a hands on perspective of what
- 1:15:25carriers face every day in office across this nation.
- 1:15:31We can only pray that we have the opportunity to turn this
- 1:15:34union around and make it start representing the craft.
- 1:15:40All the craft union and non union members alone.
- 1:15:44I like because of the fact that if you do it to one, you're
- 1:15:46going to do it to anybody else in there.
- 1:15:48So James said it, you have to stand up for these people to
- 1:15:53stand up for everybody because we are legally required to do
- 1:15:58so. But you should be doing it
- 1:16:00because it's your best interest. Also, all I can say is that, you
- 1:16:06know, we're still in summer heat, everybody hydrates, start
- 1:16:10drinking fluids tonight, non alcoholic.
- 1:16:12Of course, go out there and do the job the most proficiently,
- 1:16:19professionally and with great courtesy towards your customers
- 1:16:22and your fellow carriers and make sure you do what you're
- 1:16:27supposed to do, what you're paid to do and get home because
- 1:16:32you're the most important delivery of the day to your
- 1:16:34loved ones. Have a good night, Kristen.
- 1:16:38Thank you, guys. Yes, I'm right here.
- 1:16:42Thank you guys again. Going to be back this week with
- 1:16:45everybody, you know, like Toasty said.
- 1:16:48Mapping, make sure that you know you're getting in there and
- 1:16:53you're getting yourself mapped. You're going through the whole
- 1:16:56system, whole LTM. And I will reiterate, when
- 1:17:02you're doing an LTM and you're doing the whole thing, you can
- 1:17:05see if boxes are not pinned in the right place.
- 1:17:10I mean, I've had a couple of them as I got the opportunity to
- 1:17:14map facilitate last month. Again, where it looks like
- 1:17:19you're backing up or you're going in circles to get boxes in
- 1:17:23a section. You know, if you see that, make
- 1:17:25notes of where those are at so you can go in and fix them in
- 1:17:28the DPM. Management may not want to have
- 1:17:31to spend the extra time doing it, but that is your right to
- 1:17:35make sure that that is correct and definitely do that.
- 1:17:39Next, many mail surveys coming up end of August during National
- 1:17:44Convention. You know, I will be gone all but
- 1:17:48two days as of right now for the mini mail survey.
- 1:17:51So, you know, I am going to request that my sub sends me the
- 1:17:57numbers every day of what needs to what, you know, what was
- 1:18:01counted with the raw mail and whatnot.
- 1:18:04And that way I can keep track while I'm gone and make sure,
- 1:18:09you know, I know my route so I know what what the averages are.
- 1:18:14But yeah, stay hydrated out there guys.
- 1:18:16It's still summer. It's still hot, humid, and stay
- 1:18:22safe out there. You know, take those comfort
- 1:18:24breaks as needed. Try and stay cool, stay
- 1:18:27hydrated, and make sure you're taking care of yourself because
- 1:18:32you know, getting home to your loved ones is the most important
- 1:18:35thing at the end of the day. And on that note, guys, will
- 1:18:39everybody have a safe week and we shall return next week.
- 1:18:58All right, we're back. We're back.
- 1:19:00OK, All right, I'm going to help out of here and go grab some
- 1:19:04dinner. All right, if you have to eat,
- 1:19:07go ahead.
