- 6:14Speaker 2: Moody Center on Sunday the twenty ninth. Then it'll be
- 6:18Speaker 2: a quick transport over to the airport to fly to Atlanta.
- 6:22Speaker 2: We'll be reporting in from Atlanta on Monday the thirtieth
- 6:26Speaker 2: when the coaches have their press conference. There's a media
- 6:29Speaker 2: day on Monday and the practices there, so we'll do
- 6:33Speaker 2: all the regular bowl type things that we do for
- 6:36Speaker 2: the Chick fil A Peach Ball for Texas and Arizona State,
- 6:39Speaker 2: and coming up in a few minutes, we're gonna, in fact,
- 6:46Speaker 2: we need to hear a couple more of these just
- 6:48Speaker 2: to make sure we got caught up. Now. We're gonna
- 6:49Speaker 2: hear more from Longhrn's head coach, Steve Sarcasha, but also
- 6:53Speaker 2: from Kenny Dillingham, the head coach at Arizona State. They
- 6:57Speaker 2: did the they did the news conference simultaneously, so we
- 7:04Speaker 2: brought to you. Sark's comment last night when Day he
- 7:07Speaker 2: was asked what was something he has seen from Dillingham's
- 7:12Speaker 2: career now from Dillingham, what is something that he has
- 7:15Speaker 2: observed from Steve Sarkisian's coaching career.
- 7:18Speaker 4: In regards to coach Sark, I mean I was a
- 7:19Speaker 4: high school coach when he's started his career as a
- 7:22Speaker 4: head coach, and the way he's evolved offensively. You know,
- 7:26Speaker 4: there's a lot of good offensive schemes out there, and
- 7:29Speaker 4: then there's offensive coaches who change their scheme and are
- 7:33Speaker 4: constantly getting better. And I think that's something that he's
- 7:36Speaker 4: done as good, if not better than anybody in the country.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Is if you turned on his tape from ten years ago,
- 7:42Speaker 4: it's going to be unrecognizable to his tape right now.
- 7:45Speaker 4: And that is very challenging to do when you're successful.
- 7:48Speaker 4: When you're successful, you want to keep doing what got
- 7:51Speaker 4: you successful, and it's very challenging to be challenging, in
- 7:55Speaker 4: my opinion, to be humble enough to constantly continually adapt
- 8:00Speaker 4: to the current landscape of the rules. You can't cuplock
- 8:03Speaker 4: on the perimeter right to RPOs and how they in
- 8:08Speaker 4: terms and changed the game in terms of substitution patterns,
- 8:12Speaker 4: and now you can slow teams down that sub late.
- 8:14Speaker 3: You couldn't do that fifteen years ago.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Like, he has always adapted with the game and almost
- 8:21Speaker 4: been ahead of the curve a little bit.
- 8:23Speaker 3: And that's really challenging to do.
- 8:25Speaker 4: And it's a testament to one how hard he works,
- 8:27Speaker 4: because you can't adapt unless you study. So he's always studied,
- 8:31Speaker 4: and I've always been able to kind of steal a
- 8:34Speaker 4: few things from him. I mean, I really remember when
- 8:36Speaker 4: he was at Washington and way back when he was
- 8:39Speaker 4: a big FIB guy, and he was one of the
- 8:41Speaker 4: first people to really dive into FIB and challenge.
- 8:45Speaker 3: People with how they played the big nickel and what
- 8:47Speaker 3: to do. And I was like, well, what is he doing?
- 8:49Speaker 3: This makes no sense. I couldn't process it. I was
- 8:52Speaker 3: trying to learn it.
- 8:54Speaker 4: But all of that stuff that he's done, he's just
- 8:55Speaker 4: constantly evolved and evolved and evaulved to get to why
- 8:58Speaker 4: he's where he's at right now, which is the best
- 9:00Speaker 4: offenses in college football. And I think that same philosophy
- 9:04Speaker 4: he carries over as a head coach in terms of
- 9:07Speaker 4: there's no stagnant people aren't stagnant. In that program, and
- 9:10Speaker 4: I think you can see that his office philosophy is
- 9:12Speaker 4: becoming the program philosophy, which is it's pretty impressive when
- 9:16Speaker 4: when you are young, innovative and you continue.
- 9:19Speaker 3: To evolve throughout your entire career, and just got a
- 9:22Speaker 3: lot of respect for him.
- 9:24Speaker 2: All Right, We're going to hear more from both those
- 9:25Speaker 2: head coaches coming up in just a few moments. When
- 9:28Speaker 2: you get something else what's written, we use the word
- 9:32Speaker 2: take away a lot. What's your takeaway from this? What's
- 9:35Speaker 2: your takeaway from that? Even ask Greg Tepper, you take
- 9:37Speaker 2: away from the high school football state championships, that sort
- 9:41Speaker 2: of thing. So they're pretty popular things about because sometimes
- 9:46Speaker 2: takeaways come after you've had a chance to think about
- 9:51Speaker 2: it and reflect on it and review things, especially with
- 9:54Speaker 2: regard in this specific instance, to the four games that
- 9:59Speaker 2: were played over the weekend, the four college football playoff
- 10:03Speaker 2: games that were played over the weekend. So the Athletic
- 10:08Speaker 2: always does a good job with its takeaways, as does
- 10:10Speaker 2: ESPN dot Com and a couple other sports Illustrated I
- 10:14Speaker 2: canvas all of these, but the ones for the Athletic
- 10:16Speaker 2: here were the their takeaways from the opening round of
- 10:19Speaker 2: the college football playoff. And that's another thing. By the way,
- 10:22Speaker 2: we call it the opening round, first round, I think
- 10:24Speaker 2: its first round was actually called but there's some folks saying, hey,
- 10:29Speaker 2: we should call that something else, you know, whatever, the
- 10:31Speaker 2: wild card round or whatever. But here's some takeaways from
- 10:34Speaker 2: the opening round. Number one says the Athletic that the
- 10:38Speaker 2: home game atmospheres were great, and they were Tennessee fans.
- 10:43Speaker 2: They took almost thirty thousand into the Horseshoe, Indiana had
- 10:47Speaker 2: that historic first of Indiana against Notre Dame, and the
- 10:50Speaker 2: on campus ambiance, he said, is perhaps the best part
- 10:54Speaker 2: of the new playoff format. And so the reporters were
- 10:59Speaker 2: asked by Jana Bardell in the staff of the Athletic
- 11:03Speaker 2: to describe the home game atmosphere, and with regard Sam
- 11:11Speaker 2: con Junior, whom we've seen a lot, he was at
- 11:13Speaker 2: the Texas game, he said, so much better than the
- 11:15Speaker 2: sanitized atmospheres we get from bowl games at NFL stadiums.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Point Number two, the games were lopsided. Any had of
- 11:23Speaker 2: one by ten, I mean Notre Dame beat Indiana by ten,
- 11:26Speaker 2: but we know it really wasn't that close. The pretty
- 11:28Speaker 2: much dominated the game, and of course, right after that,
- 11:31Speaker 2: as the Athletic points out, Dowers and SEC enthusiasts were
- 11:34Speaker 2: quick to question, now qualified the soon Hoosiers really were?
- 11:38Speaker 2: Little did we know that the ten point march in
- 11:40Speaker 2: victory would be the closest of a weekend full of blowouts?
- 11:44Speaker 2: As him you humbled in the thirty eight to ten
- 11:46Speaker 2: loss to Penn State, Clemson lost thirty eight twenty four
- 11:48Speaker 2: to Texas, and Tennessee's fate was determined early in the
- 11:53Speaker 2: forty two to seventeen lost to Ohio State. Point number three.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Strength of schedules should have more weight in the twelve
- 11:59Speaker 2: team that's been debated on that the playoff triple in
- 12:03Speaker 2: size this year, but the Committee kept its evaluation process
- 12:06Speaker 2: mostly the same blowouts are going to happen, and there's
- 12:10Speaker 2: a good chance under Dame, Penn State, Texas, and Ohio
- 12:12Speaker 2: State are all just really good teams. But moving forward,
- 12:17Speaker 2: the Committee needs to prioritize schedule strength as a key
- 12:20Speaker 2: metric in its rankings. There was always going to be
- 12:22Speaker 2: room to evaluate what the expanded Playoff got right and
- 12:27Speaker 2: wrong in this inaugural year, and although the Committee could
- 12:30Speaker 2: very well have gotten this year's twelve team playoff field correct,
- 12:35Speaker 2: does a three loss SEC team really belong. There's room
- 12:39Speaker 2: to acknowledge that schedule strength or lack thereof, can skew
- 12:42Speaker 2: the perceptions of the best teams. So there's some of that.
- 12:46Speaker 2: There's got to be I get all of the thing
- 12:48Speaker 2: of what Alabama fans are saying is about the quality wins.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I understand that, and Kirk kurb Street had a big
- 12:56Speaker 2: ranch about how it's got to be more than just wins.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I agree, but you have to factor in losses, and
- 13:04Speaker 2: if you have ugly losses, it's going to affect it.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I'm not saying that Alabama should have been in instead
- 13:10Speaker 2: of SMU or not or vice versa. I'm just saying
- 13:14Speaker 2: all things have to be evaluated, and the committee says
- 13:16Speaker 2: they do, so we'll see all right. Up next, more
- 13:19Speaker 2: from long WARN's head coach Steve Sarkesian, as well as
- 13:22Speaker 2: from Kenny Dillingham, the head coach at Arizona State, on
- 13:25Speaker 2: sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
